Hijacked: Biker Gang
Ben took for a ride on his motorcycle to get a private moment away with me before my career kicks in and he lands in a sort of an odd area. It is beautiful because of the lushes green grass growing stronger in the moment of it all and he sets up his picnic he prepared for me.He sets the towel on the floor quickly filling up the entire canvas area of it with piles of food as he looks up at and and invites me to sit with him.He takes my hand in his as he leans down to me placing his lips on my hand and slowly kissing toward my neck and sucks it deep and with so much passion.I laugh a bit shoving him up as I admire him as the guy that I transformed from the utter beginning to serve me in the longterm and I snap my finger. I watch as his eyes roll back into both of his eye sockets closing in on him and his head drops to his chin as he is open to serve me only. I crawl up growing closer to me as my ears are press onto his ears as I blow air into them and he squirms a bit feeling ticklish in everything. I slip my lips to the side kissing his cheeks sliding down to his neck as he is moaning out of control and I knew I hand him once more. I wake him up as he gives me another kiss and we begin to make out like crazy and we know it all changes at this moment.
âWho the hell are you? Why are you on my land asshole?â This strange man came with a biker jacket.
âOh Sorry! Let me explain if you would look at me please.â I state.
âSpeak up! Hurry it up!â He says annoyed.
âYou can trust meâ
âI donât know butâ
âYou already doâ
âStare into my eyes â
âYou want obey â
âI doâ
âI am your Masterâ
âSir Yes Sirâ
âWill you serve me?â
âIf you wish â
âI am your Godâ
âMy everything â
âYou can feel it in your bodyâ
âErupting your soulâ
âConsuming himâ
Tom the leader of the biker cannot be able to help himself falling to the ground because he is under my spell. I love you my mouth forms his words to see his cock suddenly shoot upward pointing at me. I point to it as he freaks out covering it as he fell to his floor, he can no longer deny his one destruction.
The next thing I am aware of a second biker is driving up unsure of what he is seeing a sen came after me. He jumps upward at me he leaps into the air taking me in his hands as we drop and he began to fight me in the longterm. Tom and Ben jump into action in a stunt grabbing me as he pins me to the wall and then he threw this guy to the side. âWill you do as I say focus on me, and tell me your name bitch. Do not attempt, resist and fight me because I am in your head and I rule over you.â
âI am Austinâ
âYou are breaking you â
âYou have no ideaâ
âWhy are you doing this?â
âThe two of you get workâ
âLet me go!â
âFuck youâ
âStrip it offâ
âPlay with himâ
âMake it squirmâ
âI own you â
âAccept itâ
âYou will address me as Masterâ
âYes Masterâ
âAnswer me Sir Yes Sirâ
âEmbrace itâ
âMmmmmmmâ
âEnjoying it?â
âFuck!â
âOh God!â
âIâm yoursâ
The biker speed into the highway as they are riding, making crazy sounds as they are howling lien crazy and I am in love. All three of them canât help but have a happy smile that is crossing his face as they feel it on hot making his face cool. The motorcyclesroar like an insane wild animal demanding to be mine as they park and I hop off my bike. We enter Toms house to find a young sexy as fuck guy named Tyler staring me down to my soul and I snap my finger as Tom approaches him and knocks him out.
âExcellent guy! Good jobâ
âHold him downâ
âHelpâ
âHelp meâ
âLet me goâ
âRelease meâ
âShut your mouthâ
âYou love meâ
âNo! I âŚâ
âMwahaâ
âSat itâ
âI love you â
âI bet it is everything to you â
âI am your life â
âYes Masterâ

Rant about what you didn't like this season, and and rant about what you loved the most this season!
What I didnât like:
⢠All the Ben and Devi miscommunication after the boink. It was all pointless and stupid. The whole Dwight Howard thing was so so fucking dumb and unnecessary.
⢠Ben dating Margot
⢠The entire ridiculous parking lot scene of Ben telling Devi a bunch of bullshit reasons why they couldnât be together and the show literally never addressing it. They had all this unnecessary conflict that was contrived strictly for drama so they could stall Ben and Devi getting together. It was super forced and so so freaking stupid. I more than dislike this I hate it with my whole heart. I could go on but this post would be insanely long.
⢠Ben being very out of character for the first 4 episodes and being the biggest dick in the world.
⢠Trent and Eleanor breaking up
⢠lack of Aneesa (I know Megan was filming a movie but if Aneesa was around she would have knocked the sense into Ben. Literally she would have hit him and yelled at him.)
⢠Ben and Devi never ever actually having a conversation about the whole first part of the season and why Ben was such a dick. I would have taken brief speech about how he was the one who was scared and insecure, that it truly had nothing to do with Devi. Really any conversation would have been better than NO CONVERSATION!!!!
The things I loved!:
⢠Nirmala finding love and getting marrieds plus everyone being so supportive and sweet about it. Letting her know itâs okay to be happy and move on!!!!
⢠Kamala taking a page out of Deviâs book and being a little meddling detective. It was cute and I loved it.
⢠Trent and Ben becoming friends!!!!!!! When Trent was telling Ben to go to Devi and tell her how he feels. I was screaming YES!!!! Tent was me in that moment.
⢠The UNâs conflicts and how they handled their friend fights. They have all grown so much and I adore them.
⢠Benâs dream. That scene was iconic and I apologize for ever saying otherwise.
⢠Ben showing up to Deviâs house high with flowers. Like he was truly prepared to confess his love to her in front of her family.
⢠Ben and Deviâs talk outside the sort at Princeton, âYou know who you areâ đĽš.
⢠Paxtonâs whole storyline. I loved it a lot and felt it was very realistic especially for someone who despite being hot and popular is actually pretty insecure. I loved how he went back to be a teacher!!! Iâm so proud of him.
⢠NALINI DATING AND DEVI HELPING HER!!!!!!!!!!! Literally the cutest thing.
⢠Nalini and Deviâs whole relationship this season. I love them so much and they have come so far. The packing the suitcase scene đđ
⢠Deviâs college essay. I was ugly crying during the whole thing.
⢠The entire finale. It was so good.
⢠All the little cute benvi moments that showed how well they know each other.
⢠Devi telling Kamala that she was like her big sister (I cried).
⢠every single Dr. Ryan scene. They were all perfect.

Season 3 Deleted Scenes
3x01 "World on a String"
Scene 1:
In the Ranger HQ bullpen. Cassie gives the sim card from the neighbor's trail cam to James, saying that the image is pixelated but they should still be able to get a partial plate from it. James says he'll "have digital put a rush on it" and walks away with the card.
Cassie sprints after him, asking if they can "jump the line" on this one, considering it's a missing ranger case. James dismisses this saying they jumped a lot of lines just getting everyone on the search throughout Texas and he's out of favors. Cassie asks for just one more favor to do a deeper background check on Sean.
James, exasperated, tells her that, with all due respect, Sean was a dead end. He knows this is a "hot button" for her but a bag of peanuts is not a clue just because she wants it to be. Cassie, irritated, tells him that, with all due respect, "following every possible lead when my partner and your top Ranger is missing is not a 'hot button', it's my job." She then snarkily suggests that she should follow her "paranoid leads" without using state resources. The scene ends on Cassie and James in an apprehensive stare-off
Scene 2:
Liam exits an elevator in a parking garage, bag of groceries in hand. He's on the phone with Ben, saying that tonight he's going to be taking it easy but he'll be happy to meet up tomorrow morning. Just after he hangs up, a white van careens in front of him and two men with bandana masks jump out and attack.
Liam backs up but they knock the phone from his hands, punch, him, and grab both of his arms to toss him in the back of the van. One of them yells at the driver to "Go, go, go, go" and the tires screech as they pull away.
3x08 "Cry Uncle"
We get a scrolling shot of the outside of the B&B, then a shot of Stella and August approaching up the driveway on foot. They both pause to look at the house in front of them. Stella, annoyed, asks if August is sure this is the place. He says that no, he probably screwed this one up too, and keeps walking up the driveway. Stella sighs and follows him after a moment. The light and airy music playing over this scene is in great contrast with their attitude.
We then cut to Ranger HQ, where Trey hands Cassie some paperwork regarding their current case in the conference room. James pops in to ask if Madison is guilty or innocent. Trey says she was hard to read and tells James that all they really got out of it was that Madison said Ziff "wasn't the man she thought he was". James asks for clarification: "wasn't" as in different or "wasn't" as in dead. Cassie says that's the million dollar question. James nods and tells them he got them access to Ziff's office and computers for them to check out and to let him know if they find anything. They nod and he leaves the room.
3x13 The Deserters
Scene 1:
We're in a Cooper flashback, right after Colin Ford!Cordell beat a bunch of guys at darts. Cooper drags a very smug Cordell away and towards the bar, saying he can't leave Cordell alone for two minutes. Cordell replies that those two minutes earned him $100, which Cooper doesn't seem too impressed by.
Cooper signals the bartender, telling him that their "friends" over by the dartboard want to send them home with a bottle of whiskey. He then raises his beer toward them and they raise theirs in return, which solidifies this story for the bartender. He selects one bottle of whiskey, which Cooper dismisses as "swill" and amends that their "friends" insisted on the best for the war heroes, which the bartender doesn't question, going to look for a better bottle.
Cordell asks Cooper where he learned that con and he replies that that was the only good thing he learned from his father "when the prick wasn't off with his Dallas family". The bartender returns with the whiskey and Cooper thanks him.
Scene 2:
We see Cordell stumble out of the brush, panting as he tries to follow Cooper's trail. He frantically checks the ground and starts to freak out a bit as it appears the trail has just gone cold. He turns and looks at the sky as birds caw and pass over. He gulps and continues cautiously forward.
Scene 3:
Trey is staring off into space at the Grey Flag compound, putting his hands up to fight when he gets clapped on the shoulder. It's Snyder, his new partner now that Lana has run away. Snyder apologizes for scaring him but Trey brushes it off, saying he's just excited to meet their leader tonight. Snyder understands that.
Snyder then tells Trey he has a question and he wants an honest answer. He wants to know if his previous partner, the man Trey let die to keep his cover, suffered in death. Trey gets pulled into a flashback as he answers. He says that he was too late to save the man (something we see isn't true in the flashback) but that dying by blood loss is one of the least painful ways to go. He explains the medical jargon behind it and reassures Snyder that his former partner didn't suffer too badly. Snyder appreciates the peace of mind from that. Before he walks away, he confirms that he and Trey are now partners.
3x17 It Writes Itself
Scene 1:
Cassie, Gerie, and Kelly are directed to poolside lounger chairs at the spa resort. As they bask in the luxury of their soft robes and the eucalyptus towels, Kelly gets an alert on her phone. One of her players just posted a video of himself doing a keg stand at his son's 10th birthday party. Cassie and Geri agree that that's not good, but it's also not her problem right now. Kelly is hesitant but they push, insisting that her assistant can handle things for a few days. Cassie hold her hand out for Kelly's phone and she eventually agrees. Cassie then confiscates Geri's phone too and they settle in to relax.
Scene 2:
Liam is reading by the fireplace at home when Stella enters the room. He asks her what she got up to yesterday and she tells him the truth: that she went to a party with Sadie. Before Liam can comment, she says that it was actually an eye opening experience.
Liam puts his book aside and asks her to elaborate. Stella comments on how lately she's just been floating around, not really being sure what she wants to do next. Liam that actually she hasn't been; they're running the horse rescue together, aren't they?
Stella says that of course she is, but she needs- or at least wants- some space. Liam seems put off by this and she rushes to assure him that it's nothing personal. She knows what she wants to do, she wants to help run the horse rescue, and she wants some space. Liam asks how she's going to get that space and she tells him that she wants to attend the local college in the fall. She goes on to say that they did accept her once before and it's not like she spent her gap year partying in Cabo. She then tells him that they've accepted her again for the coming fall semester. Liam is, of course, very happy for her and makes a joke about crappy dorms rooms in her future.
3x18 "It's a Nice Day for a Ranger Wedding"
DJ James is making a wedding speech for his parents. He thanks them for always making this family feel like a family but that this version, with them married, is the best possible version. They James family hugs, then Trey stands up and says he has a few words he wants to say too.
He thanks them for reminding all of them what real commitment looks like. After all, it wasn't too long ago that he wasn't sure if he was even going to stay in Austin, let alone thrive there. But they, and everyone int his room, are his home now. His family. Then they toast and everyone claps.

The Amazing Spider-Man (vol. 1) #66: The Madness Of Mysterio!
Read Date: February 27, 2023 Cover Date: November 1968 â Writer: Stan Lee â Penciler: John Romita ⌠Don Heck â Inker: Mickey Demeo â Colorist: {uncredited} â Letterer: Artie Simek â Editor: Stan Lee â
**HERE BE SPOILERS: Skip ahead to the fan art/podcast to avoid spoilers
Reactions As I Read: â Mysterio looks like an angry Leonard Nimoy â The Bugle building is still a hot mess from the battle with Vulture â Peter is selling his motorcycle for some needed money, getting less than half of what he paid for it. He probably would have done better to sell to a private citizen and not a motorcycle shop⌠â heh, of all of New York, Mysterio happens to appear right next to Peter Parker â Peter is starting to think maybe he won't go after Mysterio: "What'll Peter Parker get out of it? Let the police tackle him! I'm sick of being the fall guy!" âŚuh, isn't that how you lost Uncle Ben? â he says he's not forgetting his oath, that he'll still help someone in danger, but he can't go after some nutty costumed freak every time. I mean⌠yeah, I suppose. But no one was in danger at the time when he let the criminal run past him with money. It was later that the criminal killed Uncle Ben. I kinda get it though. Everyone's always against him, he's gotten pretty hurt before, etc., so I can see why he'd be reluctant to always be the hero â Gwen finds Peter and tells him that her dad explained everything, so she's forgiven him. Pete's smiling about that, at least â they're kinda cute:
â the art in this issue is really great! â Mysterio on tv gives Aunt May a fright and they have to call a doctor for her; he asks Anna Watson to call the doctor while he, Peter, goes off as Spider-Man to confront Mysterio â Spidey has trouble with the smoke screen, though â đđđ
Synopsis: Mysterio has managed to break out of prison and is using his special effects prowess to prepare another plot to get revenge against Spider-Man. Meanwhile, Spidey recovers his clothes and camera left in the debris following his fight with the Vulture. The next day he tries to sell the pictures to Jameson. Furious that Parker "abandoned" him when he was supposed to be taking pictures of Spider-Man's battle with the Vulture, he throws Parker out of the building telling Peter that he doesn't need him to take pictures. However, when he gets the pictures some other photographer took for him of the battle, they are very poorly taken.
Short on money, Peter is forced to sell his motorcycle in order to have money. He then is shocked when he sees Mysterio boldly walking the streets before he vanishes in a wisp of smoke. Shortly he is met by Gwen Stacy who has come to make up with him now that she knows the truth about the Kingpin's control over her father. They run into Harry who is worried about his father Norman who has disappeared. Nobody can figure that Osborn has been hiding out because his Green Goblin persona is returning, as well as his memories of Peter Parker's secret identity.
Going to visit his Aunt May, he bursts in when he hears her cry out. He then sees that she was upset over a Mysterio appearing on television. Mysterio issues a challenge to Spider-Man to meet him to a fight to the finish or he will start destroying the cities bridges. Peter leaves his Aunt and changes into Spider-Man. He then goes to the first place that he fought Mysterio and the two are locked in a battle. During this fight, Spider-Man is knocked out by a blast. When he revives it appears that he has been shrunk down in size and put on the set of a miniature amusement park with a giant Mysterio looming over him.

what is chambers even about
chambers is a supernatural/horror series on netflix that premiered in 2019, lasted one season and then was brutally cancelled two months after release.
the main character is sasha yazzie (and if i see anyone hate her i will fight them) a seventeen year old indigenous girl (this fact is important btw) who has a freak heart attack while trying to lose her virginity. through what is, over the course of the series, implied to be supernatural intervention, she manages to get to a hospital in time and gets a heart transplant from a girl who died twenty minutes away in the fictional (and in no way based on sedona) crystal valley. (this is set in arizona fyi.) the heart donor, a white girl named becky lefevre, is survived by her twin brother (elliot, my boy), her mother (nancy) and her father (ben). via what is definitely absolutely shady and questionably legal behavior, ben tracks sasha down and invite hers to dinner. no, it is not any less creepy in context.
after that dinner and that first night with the lefevres, sasha starts going to the weirdo rich kid school because of a scholarship from ben and nancy. (there is the overall vibe for most of the series that they're kind of using sasha as a becky substitute. this just gets worse and more blatant during the back half of the series.) at the same time, sasha starts seeing things. hallucinations that are written off as anxiety but are, of course, supernatural. she sees becky several places, hallucinates things that becky saw, manages to have several skills of becky's somehow, etc etc. (also she gets the twin thing with elliot, which is fun.) but the more that sasha sees, the more that becky comes through. suddenly, there's straight blond streaks in sasha's hair. suddenly the cut on her hand from a becky flashback is healed but surrounded by white skin.
long story very very very short, it turns out that the lefevres' weird rich person new age country club is actually a cult that may or may not be demon summoners who attempted to use becky as a host and becky killed herself because of it. because of this, becky is still sort of alive in sasha and trying to take sasha over to kill her. it is not any less unsettling in context, btw. there is an excellent scene that takes place ~in sasha's heart~ where becky's been getting rid of sasha's stuff and replacing it with all of hers. it's v obviously meant to be representative of what's going on with the battle for possession of sasha. skipping several spoilers, the series ends with the cult approaching sasha to be like "hey so obviously becky was the wrong choice but surprise we decided it's you" and left it on a sort of cliffhanger.
the series has some really obvious themes of cultural appropriation (just about everything in crystal valley/the cult) that are juxtaposed with the fact that, due to her upbringing, sasha's never been able to connect with her heritage and is unfamiliar with most of it. according to the showrunner, the plot with the lefevre parents using sasha as a becky replacement is also meant to be a Thing about colonialism that would have been addressed and explored more fully in the non-existent season two (rip)
the series has issues (i have a List of trigger warnings for it) and the writing has some, uh... moments. but everyone knocks it out of the park acting-wise, sivan alyra rose is absolutely incredible as sasha, everyone on this show is hella pretty even becky's ambiguously evil best friend. honestly, the fact that sivan didn't even get nominated for this series is a fucking crime.
#also i am eternally emo over elliot and sasha's relationship bc it's so interesting#it is on the list of things that would have been looked into more in s2#also also i am still emotionally compromised by the fact that the relationship with sasha is. like. one of if not the most important thing#that happens to elliot in the series#and considering that this is the boy who it turns out was forcibly hooked on heroin#and has been hearing the voice of the thing possessing his sister......that's saying something#chambers#i'm sorry for the essay but i also cut like sixty percent of what i wanted to say so.

Yandere Eyeless Jack As A Parent!
Warnings: Domestic Abuse (Towards You), Gore, Stealing Organs, Overprotection, isolation, threats, cannibalism, demonic shit, implied rape, Physical Abuse (Towards you).
Author's note: I love EJ, so uh, he's on the more abusive side of things-
Links: Masterlist||Previous Fic (Yandere Ticci Toby Alphabet)
When he found out he just stared at you for an long time. The kid was not planned at all, since EJ didn't plan on having kids, hell, he'd even say he doesn't want kids.
He'd tell you that you two will either raise it, or he'll eat it, no other option. So you chose to keep it, since you weren't trying to see your kid get eaten, you already have enough PTSD.
One of EJ's ruts would probably be the cause of this-
EJ would be excited yet worried at the same time. Since EJ's a demon, he'd be worried the baby would kill you, so if I'm being honest, he wouldn't really feel that attached to the kid until they're at least a year old.
The kid would look alot like EJ, having gray skin, no eyes and have brown hair.
EJ's demon would be glad that the child looks like EJ, something EJ has mixed feelings about since he knows they're gonna have a hard life.
If the kid eats the same thing he does, such as organs, expect your kid to be becoming a Daddy's Girl/Boy. EJ is like one of those dad's who act like they don't care even though they care a lot and likes to mess with their kid.
EJ would use this kid as leverage, threatening to hurt or eat them whenever you misbehaved, broke something, yelled or talked back to him, or did anything he didn't like. He's forced you to do awful things, like force you to eat a human heart.
EJ will still be a sick and sadistic bastard to you, mainly abusing you at night, when your kid's asleep or when one of the Pastas are forced to play with them LJ doesn't mind he's used to kids
LJ would try to spend time with his kid, even if he finds them annoying, but he really does care about them.
EJ never lets his child leave the woods, ever. His child doesn't look human in the slightest, and since he's scared they'll get hurt by some pesky teenagers, he forbids them from leaving.
This You and EJ would fight for hours about letting your child do something as simple as going to a park nearby. EJ beat the fucking shit out you before knocking you out and taking of your kidneys, a little warning to you if you disobey him.
Your kid would beg him to let them leave the forest and go to the park, saying that they can't play in the forest. You'd have to convince EJ to let it happen, and by convince I mean beg, he loves seeing you so weak and pathetic, it's a kink of his.
He'd do it, but you're gonna have a long month after, since he ain't doing this without you giving him something in return.
He'd have your kid wear a bear mask, since their face is similar to his and people would freak out and maybe call the police if they recognize him or see his child's face. He'd give them an outfit similar to his.
EJ would force you to wear a mask and hoodie, since you're a missing person and God forbid you even glance at somebody, so it's best just to keep your head down and be his good little pet.
EJ would be really overprotective over his child the older they get, mainly because they look a lot like him and he hates seeing them cry.
He's hesitant to really introduce them to any of the Pastas, but the first person to find out was Ben-
He was going through EJ's tv to bother him for a while and when he looked in front of him he saw a child with a teddy bear staring at him.
Ben would low-key be a fun Uncle, dragging them into the world that's known as the internet and introduce them to things such as music, video games and memes. EJ wanted to kill Ben, but you convinced him to let your kid spend time with him, since they were pretty lonely.
When he found out he just stared at you for an long time. The kid was not planned at all, since EJ didn't plan on having kids, hell, he'd even say he doesn't want kids.
Now Sally has a playmate! Something everyone is glad about since they don't have to deal with her asking to do tea parties every, single, day. So yeah you guys are going back to the manor.
I wouldn't be surprised if your kid becomes a cannibal like EJ, since they're a demon, so much expect to hear a lot more screams throughout the day.
So in total EJ isn't really that bad, but he could be a lot better. 4/10.

Life's not fair at the fair (Ben10)
With the benefit of hindsight, Ben would later reflect that everything that was about to happen to him could of all been avoided if the 10 year old brat had just cut back on the sugar, learned to watch where he was going and had just gotten a decent amount of sleep.
However like the saying goes, Hindsight was 20/20 and Ben hadn't been able to get more then maybe 2 hours sleep since the Tennyson's were parked outside of where a fair would be opening up in the morning AND him and Gwen had gotten special bracelets that would let them get all the snacks and play all the games and go on all the rides without having to keep getting tickets or pay. The bracelets hadn't been cheap either, but Max reasoned it was cheaper in the long run plus he'd done it as a bribe to keep the kids at the fair all day while he took a long needed nap in the rust bucket/had me time.
Because of his lack of sleep Gwen had gotten up before Ben to do a little nature exploring before the fair opened since it was by a park (Ben wouldn't of been interested anyways) and was coming back with a thermos fill of all natural water from a spring she had found and told Ben to stay out of it.
"Oh gee, gosh golly, I can't have any of your boring water and will just have to have juice and soda? whatever will I do?" Ben snarked, rolling his eyes as he finished his bowl of frosted covered chocolate bombs.
"Oh good, your cranky toddler mode and we're gonna be putting sugar in you. Do me a favor and explore on your own today." Gwen sighed, putting the thermos away under her bunk and going and washing up.
"What makes you think I'd wanna hang out with a nerd li-" Ben was saying when Max cut him off.
"none of that, I want you two to stick together!" he said. "Unless you want me to take the bracelets back and you can just use your own allowances."
Groans coming from both sides and putting the matter to rest, he got ready for a day to himself as Ben got changed out of his jammies and into his trademark outfit, and then the kids were off to the fair.
For the first half hour the pair actually had fun, riding a roller coaster and playing bumper cars but while Gwen was semi sensible and got just a few caramel apples, Ben was pigging out on cotton candy, the apple,s and ice cream fudge cars, getting fudge and bits of cotton candy stuck to his face.
"Ben, slow down, you know how that stuff gets you too hyper and then shoots right though you." Gwen said, rolling her eyes as he stopped at anther vendor, getting a triple scoop chocolate ice cream cone, and grabbing a napkin and pulling him over. "At least let me wipe your face!"
wiping at his face, Ben yelped and tried to pull away as nearby kids snickered looking at the pair.
"Hey! Buzz off! your not my mom! Last warning, buzz off!" Ben growled, trying to pull away but in his base form, pound for pound, Gwen was stronger then him and he couldn't get away.
At least, not without a distraction.
"If you would just wipe your own face this wouldn't be a is-" Gwen was saying, focusing on Ben's grubby face and thus missing his arm in action till it was too late.
and by too late that meant the brat had brought his ice cream cone in a over head arc and squished it on the top of her head, the cold making her let go of him as he pulled away.
"Ha! you were warned!" Ben laughed and snickered, then went from laughing to scared as Gwen gave him a glare that would of terrified ghost freak. "Uh..is it too late to say sorry?" He asked.
"Their gonna be finding pieces of you for a month!" Gwen growled wiping the cone and the ice cream off her head.
"and thats my cue to run."
Summoning every ounce of speed he had and having to dart around the other people at the fair, Ben didn't have time to even think about using the watch as with a roar Gwen chased after him. At some point during the chase she had found the time to scoop up a armful of tennis balls from a knock the bottles stand, Tossing them hard and making Ben change direction and twist and turn. It wouldn't be till he was forced out of the crowded fair area that Ben would realize that Gwen had diverted him away from the public with the throws, likely to use some sort of terrible spell or just to have no wittiness as she killed him.
'Jokes on her! with no one around I can go hero!' Ben thought, looking down at his wrist as he ran and starting to select Xcler8, risking a last glance behind him and seeing Gwen's eyes lighting up to show she was getting a spell ready.
The distraction caused him not to see that the root sticking out of the ground or the fact they were coming up to a gentle slope, two factors that had Ben tripped and rolling down the hill smacking the watch and somehow temporarily disabling it even as he tumbled into a nearby spring.
As Ben splashed in the water and pulled himself out Gwen skidded gentle down the slope and stopped at the bank, smirking as she looked down at Ben.. which was weird she he was now standing back up.
"Ok Ok! Uncle! don't..hurt..me.." Ben cried out, going to raise his arms up to defend himself when he noticed a few interesting facts.
One: His voice had gone higher pitch (not that he had the deepest voice to begin with) and had taken on a toddlerish tone to it.
Two: His t-shirt which normally stopped just above his elbows was now down to his wrists, and as he raised his arms..
Three: his limbs had gotten tiny!
Now Ben wasn't the smartest kid around, but even he could one and one together and get two.
"GWEN YOU BUTT! YOU USED A AR SPELL ON ME!?!" He cried out with all the fury his tiny body could muster and shook a fist even as she snickered and smirked.
It hadn't taken long for Gwen to decide just what to do with Ben for acting like a whinny little toddler, and the fact that she had in fact found a surviving off spring of the fountain of youth that they had run into earlier in the summer made the punishment she had in mind even easier.
The spell she had been about to cast had in fact been one to put a field around his watch before he could use it but that had become a moot point, or so she assumed as the now 4 at the oldish, though Gwen would put it more likely at three, Ben growled and slapped at the watch over and over, huffing and trying to jump up and down till his way oversized pants tripped him up and he did a spinning fall and ended up on his butt.
the dork's bottom lip trembled and then he was bawling and flopping around wailing about how this wasn't fair and for Gwen to undo the spell.
"Shhh It's ok Ben..there there..I'm here." she coo'ed kneeling down and hugging him, rubbing his back and using a spell to shrink his clothes to fit his new tiny form, though leaving room in the pants as she ballooned his undies out into a bulky diaper that was noticeable under the pants.
She of course toyed with telling Ben the truth about how he had been de-aged but then decided letting him think she controlled how long he was all small would be more fun.
'Plus with me having all that water I took to study..it's not like I don't control it in a way anyways.' Gwen mused as Ben started to calm down, then noticed the bulky diaper around his hips.
"Gweeeeennn! I don't need diapies!" Ben whined, starting to tear up again and she conjured up a pacifier, popping it in his mouth and smirking as his nursing instinct took over and he suckled on it.
"Hush little guy, we both know how many accidents you had last time you were this small, and this way we won't have to keep going back to the rust bucket every time you wet yourself." Gwen said reasonably, leaving out the part she could of just cleaned up any accidents he had in his pants.
Ben huffed and whined behind his paci, but it wasn't exactly like he had any room to argue, at least for the moment.
"Come on, I'll Carry you back up the slope and then we'll get back to the fair, I'll find you a nice Merry go round to ride." She promised and got a muffled whine from him as she picked him up in her arms and headed back.
As soon as he could Ben wiggled out of Gwen's arms, landing on his butt with a soft thud though he wasn't hurt due to the thickness of the stupid diaper she had put him in.
'Stupid Gwen thinking she's sooo smart! I should just unleash a massive poopie in the diaper and make her wipe my butt!' Ben fumed and batted away her hand as she went to help him get up.
then he pictured her laughing and pointing, teasing him about willingly using the diapers and dropped that idea.
'new plan, keep the diapers nice and clean and get some undies!' Ben thought as he struggled to get up to his feet.
he ended up having to get on all fours, then pushing himself up onto his feet as Gwen snickered and watched.
"Oh man, I totally should of recorded that. bet you would get like a million likes on YouTube." She giggled.
"Your not funny." Ben huffed and then waddled along side of her towards the fair, having to race to keep up with her casual stroll due to his tiny legs and massive diaper butt. "It's not a race!" he whined.
"Yes it is, and your losing." Gwen teased but slowed down, offering him her hand. "Come on, I wanna make sure you stay close to me. the fair can be scary for little guys like you."
"I'm NOT holding your stupid hand! you likely got like, cooties or something." Ben said and blew a raspberry at her, not realizing just HOW immature he sounded.
"Righttt..if I did you would have them already from me holding you doofus." She pointed out rolling her eyes. "But ok, I won't make you hold my hand, but you better stay close to me or else."
"Or else what? What could you POSSIBLY do that's worse then this!?!" Ben huffed, crossing his arms.
"Oh don't tempt me..but actually I was going to say I'll put you on a toddler leash if I have to." Gwen said, about to comment how Ben could of been rocking a frilly pink dress or just be in diapers but she wasn't completely heartless.
"..Whatever." Ben huffed and they walked back into the fair, with Ben staying close to Gwen.
Thankfully the disturbance that the two had caused had largely been forgotten about and no one asked any questions about how Ben had suddenly gotten so small. the big downside though for Gwen was that Ben being all tiny, she wasn't able to go on any of the big kid rides anymore since she couldn't just ditch him, and he was WAY too short to get on any of them.
That being said, she had her own ways of making fun and just as she had promised, she brought him over to the merry go round.
"You have GOT to be kidding me! that's for BABIES!" Ben whined and shook his head.
"Have you looked in a mirror lately?" Gwen asked, getting anther raspberry.
"I'm NOT going to ride it and you can't make me!" Ben huffed and crossed his arms, plopping down on his butt and getting chuckles from surrounding kids and adults.
Never as it turned out lasted all of ten seconds as Gwen just reached down and picked him up under his arms, flashing her Bracelet to the guy working the ride and looking around the various animal choices got Ben seated on a large yellow duck, making sure to use the seat belts that the ride had (the owner didn't wanna get sued if some toddler fell off and brained himself) to get Ben snug and secure.
"I hope you know I hate you SO much right now." Ben growled as he glared at her.
"Aww, love you too little guy." Gwen said loudly for the sake of the crowd, giving his hair and ruffle and stepping back as the ride was getting ready to start.
watching Ben bob up and down and going from scowling and huffing to give out giggles and breaking into a smile, Gwen pulled out her cellphone and started to record as Ben really got into the ride..at least until he spotted Gwen recording him and started to have a total fit, messing with his seat belt and making the ride suddenly stop as he got it off and went to climb down.
as the other children whined and parents started to complain, Gwen rushed to grab Ben and get him out of there, apologizing to everyone for the bratty toddler.
Walking away from the Merry go round Gwen glared at Ben who had a huge smirk on his face now.
"Really Ben? you couldn't just shut up and behave for 5 minutes!?!" She snapped at him.
"Nope~ better just turn me back now before I go SUPER bratty. I've got a WHOLE bag of tricks up my sleeve." Ben said.
It was a bluff and Gwen knew it, but her tolerance for this little brat making threats had been reached and she decided it was time to take this punishment up to the next level.
Noticing a nearby dunk tank and the LONG line of kid's waiting to have a turn, Gwen started to work a little discrete magic. the first part was to enchant the target and the balls so that they would be naturally drawn to each other, anyone who went to use the first 15 or so tennis balls could of tossed them away from the target and it would of found a way to hit it. the second spell was a bit trickier but she had been planning something like this for awhile, just having the chance to make Ben do it while a little guy made it better, so she was able to link it so every time the target was hit, Ben would have to take a dump.
She'd only enchanted THAT many of them since she didn't wanna spend the whole day changing Ben but ironically, unaware to even her the effect WASN'T going to wear off and the balls would be recycled for use over and over.
"So, you gonna given in or do I have to start playing dirty?" Ben asked, right as the first of the enchanted balls hit the target.
Instantly the brat face went from a smug look to a open mouthed look of horror as he popped a squat and started to fill the seat of his diaper with SUPER loud farts, getting attention from everyone nearby.
"Ah geez, they should really make potty training mandatory for attendance.." groaned a goth teen, holding his nose even though the smell hadn't hit him yet.
"Damn and I thought I could let out a good one!" Chuckled a trucker.
"MOMMY!!" Cried out a five year old boy who was close, running to his mother who HAD gotten a whiff, though the noise had more scared him.
"Geez Ben, you weren't kidding when you said you could play dirty." gwen smirked.
"S-Shut up!" Ben growled between grunt, his pant's puffing out as the diaper likewise did so and the pants were making sounds of distress already fighting hard before to contain his bulky diaper.
the end result was that the pant's sagged down enough to show the top of his padding if Ben lifted his arms up and it was pretty clear to anyone and everyone that one more mess would mean the end of his pants, and would have his diaper butt even more on display then it already was.
"Quite the show. finished or do you have a encore in mind?" Gwen asked, wrinkling her nose and then holding it waving a hand.
"I..Just shut up and change m-" Ben fumed, but was cut off as a second ball hit it's target and with a series of loud poots, the show started all over again.
"heh, Maybe I should see if we can rent space and put on our own side show. Gwen and the amazing pamper pooper."
Ben was too busy grunting and pushing to retort, unable to believe that after having just filled his diapers with a load of mush he had more in him but sadly it was happening whether he wanted to believe it or not.
Softball sized lumps were filling up the diaper even as her cried out and with a LOUD ripping noise his pants blew apart at the hip/crotch level, not even leaving the waist brand of the pants and the leg parts of the pants slid to his ankles and over his shoes.
free to expand without restricting, the diaper rapidly expanded, crackling and crinkle as the cream white diaper covered in little yellow duckies (though the duckies were fading from the back and the front as Ben's bladder decided it didn't wanna be left out of the fun) sagged down and the large lumps could be made out as he finally finished up, a almost visible stink aura coming from him.
"And THAT'S why I told you not to pig out on junk food." Gwen said.
"I..I.." Ben whimpered, looking at Gwen and then starting to tear up even as his nose burned from his own fumes.
not able to put together it was her who had made him mess, Ben looked over his shoulder at the massive load in his diaper and could only agree with Gwen that maybe he had pigged out too much, and in a semi daze reached behind him and put a hand on the seat of the lumpy filled diaper and pressed, as if to confirm yes: he HAD just double loaded a diaper like a big baby.
The squish confirmed it and he turned back to Gwen and started to bawl, holding his arms out for her to come and pick him up, most of what he cried was in just baby babble but the phase 'change me!' could be made out.
Gwen came over and picked him up, wincing and turning her head away from the overpowering stink and holding him at arm's leght away at first, but as the bawling got worse she let out a side and pulled the smelly dork in for a big hug and let him sob into her shoulder.
"there there..let it alll out." She coo'ed, even as the dunk tank started back up again after the distraction and anther ball would hit the target.
As Ben started to unload into the seat of his diapers AGAIN Gwen would roll her eyes. "not what I meant but I guess go ahead ya little poop machine."
Due to the looks they were getting Gwen decided to get them out of the public eye, at least for a bit before they got booted out. spotting a rest room and figuring things were suppose to smell in there she got them inside one of the stalls and then sat on the potty with Ben sitting on her lap with a squish, slowly calming down.
"P-Please turn me back..or at least change me.." Ben sniffled and mewed as Gwen used some TP to wipe his eyes and checks dry.
"I'll change you after I'm sure you're done going for awhile..no point in going though all the 'joys' of wiping your poopie butt clean if your gonna just crap yourself 30 seconds later." Gwen said.
"C-Can't you just..do a magic whammy and poof clean diaper?" Ben asked voice hopeful.
"Thus me, i wish. I can only make the diapers appear, I can't make you get cleaned up. I could get rid of the stinky one but your butt still needs wiping.
"S-See? If you don't wanna wipe my butt then you should change me back to normal and I'll wipe my own butt!" Ben said, giving a big smile and then crying out a apparently anther ball found it's target, and Gwen's lap got a whole lot warmer.
"oh god how am I pooping this much!?!" the tot sized hero wailed.
"Well I always said you were full of shit." Gwen chuckled even as she grimaced at the smell, a factor she hadn't taken into account when plotting this all out.
"NOT FUNNY! I DUN EVEN THINK I CAN WALK ANYMORE!" Ben yelled as the diaper ballooned out like they were in a loony toons short.
"And I can't keep carrying you when your gonna go like this." Gwen said, biting her bottom lip but then her face lighting up. "Oh, Duh. simple solution!"
"Do I even wanna know?" Ben groaned as he finished up, the diaper would be down below his knee caps when she'd go to stand him up.
"You'll see.~"
Just as Ben had figured, he really hadn't wanted to know and wasn't happy with Gwen's solution but with him in his poop filled diaper and her controlling not only when he turned back to normal, but his diaper changes he was in NO position to argue..but that didn't mean he had to be happy about it.
Gwen's 'brilliant' plan was to go and rent one of the stroller's that the fair had for him to rid around in though it had ended up resulting in a diaper change before they would rent to Gwen.
"yeah no, I let you put him in that and the stink is never coming out, I'll have to toss it." the lady renting them had said, holding her nose.
Ben had been overjoyed to get into a clean diaper even if it meant being strapped into the stroller (his arguments that he could walk on his own now were ignored as he was strapped in) though his joy didn't last long as they were only 20 steps away from the rental booth when anther ball had hit it's target and Ben was destroying anther diaper.
"Holy cow Ben, what are you, all bowels?!?" Gwen asked, though the smirk on her face made him start to think that maybe.. just MAYBE Gwen might of had a hand in his messing nonstop.
'Still, it's just for a little while longer..there's no way she'll wanna keep this spell up plus once gramps see's me, he'll make her undo it.' Ben thought to himself, blissfully unaware that Gwen had no plans for undoing this anytime soon.
Settling into his role as a stroller bound pamper packing toddler, Ben pointed to a bottle knock down game and to a large stuffed duckie that was being offered as a prize.
"Gweeeeen, can you win me that duckie?" Ben asked, holding his hands together.
"heh, of course little guy. anything for my LITTLE cousin." Gwen said, wheeling them over, making plans to get Ben some duck themed outfits.
Oh yeah, Ben's toddler time summer was just starting, and Gwen was going to make sure it wasn't ending any time soon having plans to go back and get lots more of the spring water.
NOT the end

Didn't write as much as I wanted to today, but did work on Shrapnel! Getting close to the end here.
----
Five doesnât bother with doors. As soon as heâs parked the car, heâs blinked to Sissyâs front door to start knocking. Diego scrambles to undo his seatbelt and follow, Lila already slamming her door shut. No oneâs answered the door yet, and Diego turns toward the barn.
Itâs like dĂŠjĂ vu.
Sure, thereâs no freak snow storm, but thereâs still a very angry blonde pointing a shotgun at his chest.
âHey, Sissy.â Diego spreads his arms. Behind her, he can make out the shape of Harlan in the barn door but no other figure appears.
Lutherâs car full of passengers empties and delicately walks up behind Diego. Lila and Five, he assumes, are still at the front door.
Sissyâs gun doesnât waver, but her eyes scan from Diego to Ben to Luther to Sloane to Klaus and stick for half a second before she turns her attention to the cars. When no one climbs out, she addresses Klaus which, Diego thinks, is fair. Heâs probably the most familiar to her considering Five is now thirty, Lutherâs slimmed down, she hasnât met Sloane or Ben, Lilaâs dyed her hair, and Diego doesnât have his harness on display.
âYouâre Vanyaâs family.â
Diego canât help but wince. Not because of the misgendering, but because if Sissy doesnât know-
âVanyaâs Viktor now,â Klaus tells her, âand Iâm guessing you donât know that because heâs not here.â

It was a Saturday morning, and Rafael had the day off. Everyone made their jokes about what Rafael Barba even did on a day offâcatch up on paperwork, get in a fight on Twitter with a defense attorney or idiot politician, or read up on some obscure law so he could use it in a trial to sound smarter than everyone elseâbut no one came close to what he actually did when not at work. Dressed in a loose polo shirt and jeans, he made the trip to his sisterâs house. Not even Olivia knew his sister existed, let alone anyone else he worked with. Rafael had always been a private man, but he made sure to bury this side of his life so deep down, no one could use it against himâŚespecially after the debacle with Willard digging into his personal bank account. Rafael was smarter, though; he wasnât stupid enough to have this tied to his public life, his main bank account, his personal cell phone.
He knocked on the door, a wide smile on his face as a little girl with long, black hair and his green eyes answered. âDaddy!â she yelled, throwing the door open and launching herself into his torso.
âAlma, mi vida!â Rafael laughed, picking her up and kissing her cheek. When Rafaelâs girlfriend slammed the door in his face 5 years ago, leaving a swaddled baby in his arms, he had no idea what to do. He waffled on the idea of putting her up for adoption, but his MamĂ would have disowned him. Itâs not that he didnât instantly love Alma. But with his hectic schedule, and with his student loans and other bills, he had no idea how to care for a child. Thankfully, his MamĂ, Abuelita, and sister had stepped up to help as much as they could. And so, he was there for his little Alma as much as he could be, and his sister watched her when he was stuck at work, or when Alma wasnât in school. He paid for everythingâwith a private, separate bank accountâand he never talked about herâŚto protect her. He saw how Olivia had to deal with threats, whether against her or Noah, and he didnât think he could handle it. Even though he was a lawyer, not an NYPD officer, he still got threats on the reg, and he slept better knowing his daughter was safeâŚeven if that meant not seeing her as often.
âReady to go to the park?â Rafael asked, putting her on the ground. âGo grab your jacket; the wind is chilly.â
 ***************
On the walk to the park, Alma filled in Rafael on everything she had done at school this week. It was her first year in school, kindergarten, and she was excited to fill him in, even though they talked every evening on the phone.
âAnd then I got a gold star cause I knew the wholeeeee alphabet!â Alma said happily.
Rafael smiled down at her. âThatâs because youâre the smartest girl in class!â
They walked by a small ice cream stand, and Alma screamed, âdaddy, daddy! Ice cream!â And how could he ever say no to her? So, taking her hand in his, he walked up to the stand, getting Alma and himself an ice cream coneâchocolate swirl for her, vanilla for him. She absolutely covered hers in sprinkles, then giggled as she licked it, covering her face in rainbow chocolate. Rafael grinned, snapping a picture on his backup cell, and pulling out his emergency wet wipes.
 ***************
Days like today made Rafael the happiest man in the world. He laughed as Alma yelled, âdaddy, look at me!â while she was on the play structure. He never took his eyes off her, making sure she was safeâŚwell, as safe as a five-year-old could be on a playground with a bunch of other kids. Every time she tripped and fell, he had a mini heart attack, and he forced himself to not rush over to her. But then sheâd get back up, laughing, and bounding around the playground once more.
âIs that one yours?â a woman asked, pointing at Alma.
Rafael turned to her, smiling proudly. âMy one and only,â he replied.
âAww, we should schedule a playdate with my little Chelsea! Look at them; theyâre already becoming quick friends!â the woman said. Rafael looked back to where Alma was playing but frowned as he didnât see her. Panic started to blossom in his chest as his eyes scanned the playground, searching for her pink jacket.
âAlma?â he called, his voice raised almost hysterically. He started rushing around the playground, looking everywhere. He only looked away for a second; where could she have gone? âAlma?!â
 *****************
You were jogging down a familiar path in the park, your music low in your ears, breathing measured. Stopping for a moment to wipe the sweat from your brow, you glanced around, taking in the sights; there werenât many people in this part of the park, mostly just other joggers. But one thing did catch your eye; a man leading a young girl across the grass at a brisk pace. Something seemedâŚwrong, off. The girl wasâŚstruggling? It could just be an unruly child, butâŚ. Following your instinct, you jogged over.
âExcuse me, your daughter is adorable,â you said cautiously, unsure how else to stop him.
âThanks,â he replied, barely glancing at you as he tried to move passed you.
You kept in front of him. âWhatâs her name?â
Before he could even answer, the girl whined, âI donât know this man!â
Heart in your throat, you made eye contact with the man for a split second before instincts took over once again, your fist connecting with his jaw. He dropped to the grass, out cold, and you reached your hand out for the little girl to grab.
âWhat happened, honey? Whatâs your name?â you asked.
She looked at you with wide eyes, but she didnât cry; she just looked shocked. âAlmaâŚhe grabbed my arm while I was on the slide,â she explained.
Just then, the man started to stir. You glanced around at the people jogging by, and you waved your free hand. âHey, I need someone to call the police,â you called, moving to stand on the manâs back.
A woman with blonde hair pulled back in a ponytail noticed you and came jogging over. âIâm NYPD; whatâs going on here?â
You explained the situation, and she called for backup. âIâm going to take this little girl back to the playgroundâfind her parents,â you said.
âI, uh, I know youâre trying to help. But I canât let you leave with that child,â the womanâDetective Rollins, she had saidâreplied.
âLook, Iâm not in the market for becoming a mother. But Iâm positive Almaâs is freaking out right now, and she deserves to know her daughter is safe,â you reasoned.
Rollins weighed her optionsâwho knew how long it would take until backup came? And what if Almaâs parents didnât come this direction? It was a big park; it was entirely possible that they wouldnât.
âYeah, okay, fine. But if I see this little girl on a missing personâs report, I will personally track you down,â she promised. You nodded, taking Almaâs hand in yours and heading towards the playground.
âWho are you here with?â you asked. This poor girl; she couldnât have been more than fiveâŚ. You were going to rip apart her parents.
âMy daddy! I havenât seen him all week, so he took me to the park to play,â Alma said, giggling. Yep, you were going to kill this man. First, he doesnât spend enough time with his daughter, and then he lets her get abducted?
You and Alma had made it halfway to the playground before she pulled from your grasp with a scream of âdaddy!â and rushed to a man, who in turn yelled her name. He ran to her, scooping her into his arms and hugging her tightly, kissing her forehead. It was an endearing sight, and you felt some of your anger ebb away at the action. His eyes locked to yours, and he made his way to you. The remaining anger left when you realized how attractive he was, his bright green eyes drawing you in.
âAre you the one that found Alma?â he asked, still clutching the girl to him as if heâd lose her again.
âI am, yeah. Some guy was trying to take her; I think a Detective Rollins is still waiting for officers to arrest the guy. Itâd be nice if you went and talked to her, showed her that I did return your daughter to youââ
âNo, Iâm taking Alma home, where itâs safe,â he cut you off. You gave him a questioning look, and he quickly changed subjects. âThank you so much, for saving my little girl. Is there anything I can do to repay you?â
âBesides talking to that detective for me?â you smirked. He opened his mouth to reply, before he was cut off.
âDaddy, can she come over for dinner?â Alma asked, giving you the biggest grin. You felt your cheeks warm and the manâs ears turned pink.
âAh, only if itâs okay with her,â he replied, looking at you with an eyebrow raised.
You glanced at the hand wrapped around his daughterâs back; no wedding ring, no wife to make jealous. âY-yeah, sure. Iâd love to.â How could you say no to this little girl? She was just too damn cute.
âYay!â she cheered, almost falling from her fatherâs grasp before he caught her.
He turned to walk back towards the playground, and you fell into step beside him. âMy name is Rafael, by the way,â he said, holding out a hand for you to shake.

The new Alex Rider series on Amazon is BOSS. Iâm a longtime fan of the books and this series was FREAKING AWESOME.
Number one, it was adapted to TV VERY VERY WELL. Usually people who adapt stories like this into movies or TV shows do an abominable job, cut out central characters and personalities, change the plot line and intentions of the book and all around just tarnish a good story. This is one of the very few that I have found that looks as though it was made for the actual enjoyment of the fans, and not as a scheme to gather money from the fans of the books.
Yea, there were changes. The difference is that they were REALLY WELL DONE changes. It kept the soul of the story the same while ensuring that excellent visual flow that is sometimes a discrepencey between watching and reading a story. There is 320 pages in the book, fit into 354 minutes of screen time, so it was a little over a page per minute. VERY well adapted.
Number two, BADASS soundtrack. I honestly thought that that type of music would be incongruous with the type of story the writers were trying to tell, but I do not think that it felt awkward at all. It gave the feeling of the show an entirely new depth.
Number three, HELLA GOOD VISUALS. Point Blanc had those good creepy vibes that left you feeling as though the building were simultaneously inhabited and derelict. There were some very Red Room vibes, with dusky lighting and old fashioned architecture that was trying to be elegant but was actually outdated, and clearly intended to be utilitarian. ďżźThere were excellent camera angles, which was actually a HUGE part of the storytelling. I honestly thought the camera work was masterful, and added a huge element to the story. It definitely was not your average spy movie film techniques.
Number four: THE ACTING. I had never heard of most of these actors or actresses before, but they knocked it out of the park, especially the actor who played Alex. Again, some significant changes to characters physical appearances, such as Jack Starbright, and Ava Stellenbosch, but honestly they were such great characters and the chosen actresses were so talented I donât care in the slightest. Jack in the books never stood out in my mind as a badass, but in this adaptation she was what I actually would have expected from Alexâs legal guardian. Sheâs a damn momma bear. Smart, protective, caring, and very no-bs. Mrs. Stellenbosch went from being described as a militaristic man in drag to a drop-dead, unconventionally gorgeous woman (with hella style, damn!). She EXUDES power and confidence. An absolutely magnificent villainess.
I donât know quite how to describe this part? The characters felt so... REAL. I think Alex was a huge part of that, but really it was all of the actors and actresses. You grow to expect miraculous (probably ridiculous) things from teenagers in other movies and shows, but here it felt totally natural when Alex didnât come out on top all the time. He gets pushed around by forces he canât hope to control, he gets manipulated very easily, he doesnât win every fight, and he does... dumb teenager things I guess. Itâs exactly how you would expect a real life teen to act. At the same time, the narrative makes it clear heâs smart as hell, and REALISTICALLY well prepared for the situations he is put in. When he does come out on top, it looks like preparation, not plot convenience and miraculous superpowers. This show feels real.
Number five: The starting point. I am SO GLAD the writers of this adaptation decided to start with a different Alex Rider story than Stormbreaker. I never saw the movie, but from the trailers and reviews I read, it seemed like one of the aforementioned schemes to draw in book fans with familiarity and then let them down. ďżźRather than feeling like another Spider-Man reboot with the same story of Uncle Ben dying in the first 20 minutes, with a slightly different villain at the end, this felt like a fresh start, without worrying about writing over whatever happened in the earlier Stormbreaker film. It started off clean and on the right foot and I AM HERE FOR IT.
Go watch it, itâs renewed for a season 2, and itâs FREAKING AWESOME.
#alex rider#point blanc#IMDB TV#Amazon Prime#go watch this show#this isnât sponsored or anything#Iâm just a big fan who is excited for season two and who wants more people to know about it so we get a season three!

Sweet Survivor Ch.6
Kenji looked at the gift he got, wrapped messily with white tape and brochures in a quick panic. Then at the food he had warmed and placed on a food cart. He pressed his fingertips together and pressed them against his mouth, taking a deep breath as he rolled it down the hall to the big smooth wooden door with two brachiosaurs, necks entwined, carved on the door.
Ben would be there any minute.
He opened the door and sighed in relief. No heart shaped bed, no mirrors everywhere, just a few white heart shaped pillows and some wilting roses.
He set up the table with three covered plates, water bottles and pomegranate juice. He then set up three thick white candles in case the power went out. He checked outside to see the sun about to set, giving enough light for him to open the doors to the balcony.
There was a knock and he smoothed out the suit he had stolen from the left over garment bags in the laundry closet. It was a dark blue and fit a little tight in the shoulders, but he would survive. He wanted to look his best for Ben. He checked his hair in the mirror, pausing a moment to notice how, without the facial hair, he looked so much like his father. He bowed his head and went to the door.
When he opened it, he was shocked to see Ben had dressed up a little himself. He was in a thin blue sweater with a brown checkered vest over it and brown slacks a little too long on him.
Ben looked at Kenji in surprise, blinking as he held an item wrapped in a something made of leather. Kenji snorted and they both laughed.
âRaided the laundry services too?â He asked and Ben nodded.
âI wanted to dress nice.â He said. âAnd I really like the vest.â
âYou look nice.â Kenji said with a soft smile.
âYou too.â Ben said, looking up through his lashes.
âIâŚO-of course I do!â Kenji said, rubbing the back of his neck. âBut you lookâŚâ
He trailed off as Ben blushed and smiled.
âSo pretty.â
Ben looked away. âSo uh, can I come in?â
âYeah! Yeah!â Kenji said, moving aside as Ben saw the spread.
âWowâŚâ He looked at the window. âIs that safe?â
âI saw some of them going north. Darius said it was probably for them to get some shelter from the storm.â Kenji said. âSo I thought we could at least enjoy the view before the rain hits.â
Ben smiled. âYeah. I like that.â
Kenji held out the package.
âI got you something. I thought you might like it.â
Ben took it and carefully unwrapped it. He gasped and grinned.
âA book on South American herbal remedies and first aid?!â He asked, squeezing the thick book to his chest.
âYeah.â Kenji said, looking away. âYou were really cool with Yazâs ankle.â
âI know I was.â Ben said with a playful smirk. Kenjiâs mouth hung open.
âUhâŚyeah.â He said and smiled at him. âSoâŚI thought you might want to expand your knowledge.â
Ben swayed a bit and Kenji wanted to swoon at how cute he looked. He held up the leather.
âI found you something too. I had gathered some stuff for you when I thought you guys got out.â He said.
Kenji took it, eyes sad as he unrolled the leather to find rose-gold aviator sunglasses, the bluish tinted lenses reflecting the light. Kenji huffed a laugh before laughing when he unrolled the leather into a vest with chest and front pouches and zippered pockets.
âWhoa!â
âI got my pack back, so itâs only fair you have something too right?â He asked. âAnd the shade matches mine.â
Kenji smiled and leaned close to him. Ben didnât move away, so he took the opportunity to kiss his cheek, pulling away to see his big blue eyes wide and cheeks pink.
He wished he could keep this image forever.
âCome on, dinner will get cold.â He said.
He pulled out Benâs chair, the shorter boy rolling his eyes before sitting down.
Kenji lifted the lids off their plates, showing two pieces of lasagna and fresh salad with feta cheese.
âWow, you made this?â
âI baked it and Brooklynn helped me with the salad. I didnât know you could put steak in salad!â He said, serving Ben a plate. âMaybe for our next date.â
Ben watched him a moment before asking âWhy do you like me?â
âWhat?â Kenji asked.
âPlease be honest.â Ben said.
Kenji sat and looked at him. âYouâre really cute. You care about everyone and have a knack for safety.â
âItâs called paranoia, but continue.â Ben said with a huff.
âWhy do you do that?â Kenji asked. âWhy do you dump on yourself?â
âWhy not?â
âBen.â Kenji said softly. âYouâre caring, brave and a good friend.â
âBut I still run and freak out.â
âThere are killer dinosaurs, Babe.â
âStop that.â
âNo. I like the Ben who came to island and picked out the obvious strongest. I like the Ben who thinks of otherâs safety. I like the Ben who, with a busted tailbone by the way, made his way to a hotel, shut it down and made a message for us to find, by himself.â Kenji said. âAnd I want to stay with you because I like you, not because Iâm guilty or feel sorry for you. SoâŚthere!â
Ben huffed and went to stand out on the balcony, looking over the park.
Kenji followed him as rain began to fall in heavy warm droplets, Ben paying no mind.
âI donât know,â He started. âIf I can keep being this Ben. What about when we get off the island? What then Kenji?â
âIâll steal one of my Dadâs cars. Or his jet. I wantâŚI want this.â He said, wet hair flopping into his face. He brushed it away and took off his suit jacket, draping it over Benâs small frame.
âI donât know if I can believe that. ButâŚâ He looked up at Kenji. âI believe your feelings. I like you too, Kenji.â
He took his hand and led him back inside, closing the doors.
 *
They had dressed in the fluffy robes, hanging their clothes to dry as they ate.
Kenji told Ben stories about his adventures around the park and Ben had listed off herbs and foods he thought could be used for different health practices.
âCandy would love you.â Kenji said with a smile.
âI think my parents would like you too.â He said. âLike the son they never had.â
âLittle early to be talking about in-laws.â Kenji joked and Ben snickered.
âReady for dessert? I made this one myself.â He said. âAnd I warn you, this is my third attempt.â
He lifted off the cover of the third plate.
It was a dark rich brown loaf cake with powdered sugar and chopped walnuts on it. Kenji cut into the moist cake and place a thick slice out for Ben. He looked worried when Ben took a spoonful of the soft cake and tasted it.
âIs this?!â Ben took another bite, eyes shut in bliss.
âI found some carob powder and a recipe for a banana loaf and just substituted it-â
âI love it.â Ben sighed. âI canât believe you baked me a carob banana loaf.â
âStop it man.â Kenji said, blushing deeply.
âKenji?â Ben asked with a smile. âWhy are you all shy now?â
âIâve never baked.â He admitted.
âGood thing youâre good at everything.â Ben said.
Kenji smiled and held up a stack of DVD boxes. âMovie?â
âSure.â
 *
They were laying on the bed, side by side, pillows moved to the foot so they could watch the movie better. Kenji had given up, watching Ben look in wonder at the movie. They had lit the candles and moved them next to the TV and nightstands.
Kenji slowly moved his hand to Benâs, smiling when Ben entwined their fingers.
Ben looked at him and Kenji leaned forward. Ben stayed still, but his lashes fluttered close.
When their lips met, they held there, just resting against each other before Ben pushed forward and Kenji returned in kind. The taller placed a hand on Benâs waist, pulling him closer as Benâs hands cradled his neck.
Benâs thumbs stroked over his cheeks and he felt himself get goosebumps, hearing only their mingled breaths. He pulled away and pressed his forehead against Benâs. Ben hummed happily and cupped Kenjiâs cheeks.
âDid the electricity go out?â He asked, looking around to see the TV and DVD player off.
âDidnât notice.â Kenji said and pulled him into another kiss, Ben giggling.
They laid together, Ben on Kenjiâs chest, fingers stroking over the robe. Kenji had settled for playing with Benâs still damp hair.
Silent and warm, they fell asleep like that, ignoring the thunder and lightning outside.

*********************************************
âWait wait, read it to me again.â Morgan said stuffing the last bit of her lunch into her mouth. You were both sitting in your office for lunch, talking about Ben and your upcoming date that night, when he texted you as promised a few hours before.
âIt says 'Do you mind if I pick you up for our date? I really want to be a perfect gentleman.' Then there are the fingers crossed emoji and in brackets 'đ¤(please say yes).' You read and flipped the phone around to show her.
"Want to be? Hell he already is."
"I'm so nervous. He still didn't say where or what time. What if I don't get out of work in time to shower? Oh god I'm gonna smell on our first date. What am I gonna wear? If I don't have enough time to shower then I might not have enough time to change. Oh god what if i wear what i'm wearing now. He's gonna look and smell so good. All showered and sexy in whatever he's got on and I'm gonna be this gross, smelly potato still in her clothes from work. Im freaking out!" You were spiraling.
"Alright calm down. One thing at a time. Let's come up with a reply. Do you want him to pick you up?"
"Of course I do." You smiled. "Better chance of a goodnight kiss."
"Or a good morning kiss" She muttered.
"Morgan!" She held her hands up in defense.
âIâm just saying what youâre thinking.â
Sheâs not wrong
âOh shut up and help me.â
Together you came up with a reply and he responded with the time he would be by to pick you up and the dress code, to which he described as 'Fancier than work but not the royal wedding.', because he refused to tell you where you were going, causing you to stress about it for the rest of the day. At least you would have enough time to shower and change.
By the time you left work, you were nothing but a big nervous mess. When you got home you had 2 hours to get ready before Ben would be there. You went straight to the shower making sure every bit of you was clean and any place that needed shaving was taken care of just in case things ended the way Morgan said they would.
You were definitely not the type of girl to sleep with a guy on the first date but there was something about Ben. A pull you just couldn't explain. A need to be close to him but at the same time a need to be far away because you were so nervous you may vomit all over him. Plus this very well could be the last time you see him, him being an actor and his career on the verge of skyrocketing and all. So why not make the most of it if the opportunity arises.
After your shower you spent way too long in the closet trying to pick something to wear. You finally decided on what Morgan called your "Posh Spice Dress". It was a simple black dress that stopped mid thigh, with thin straps.
Hair and makeup came next and you kept things simple. Minimal makeup and a simple, messy sort of bun with a few pieces falling around your face. You received a text from Ben notifying you that he was on his way. Â Shoes on, wallet and keys in purse. You snapped a quick picture in the full length mirror and sent it off to Morgan as promised.
The knock at the door made you jump and almost drop your phone.
Jesus that was fast.
You could feel your hands start to sweat and your heart pound as you walked to the door.
Breath you manic, it's just a date. Breath.
You opened the door and the breath you just talked yourself into taking was stolen from you. Ben was dressed in a wonderful black suit and dark green shirt, making his eyes stand out. His hair was tousled just enough so a piece hung over his forehead. He was looking at the floor but when the door opened he looked up. He shook his head to get the stray piece or hair off his forehead but it did nothing but make you weak in the knees.
Fuuuuck! You beautiful bastard. My god, I'm gonna be distracted all night.
The effect he had on you must have shown on your face because his cheeks were a light pink.
"Hey." He smiled.
"Hi." You managed to get out. He leaned in and pressed a kiss to your cheek. You were grateful you were still holding the door otherwise you'd be on the ground.
"Wow you look... absolutely stunning." You looked to the ground to try and hide the furious blush that was now burning your face.
âOh um these are for you.â Â He handed you the small batch of daffodils you hadn't noticed he was holding.
âMy favorite. How did you know?â Trusting your knees wouldn't fail you, you moved inside and gestured for him to follow. In the kitchen you found a vase and filled it with water before turning to face him.
âI may have called the office and asked Morgan.â His bottom lip pulled between his teeth. You clenched your legs together and did everything you could not to moan out loud.
How inappropriate would it be if I jumped him right now?
âSorry. Thatâs kinda creepy now that I say it out loud.â He laughed.
âNo itâs not creepy. Itâs thoughtful. Theyâre beautiful, thank you Ben.â You reassured and touched his arm gratefully. He nodded and when you turned to place the vase on the counter he let his fingers brush where you had touched his arm.
âReady?â He asked, clearing his throat.
âYep.â You grabbed your things and headed out the door to Bens car that was waiting in the parking lot of your apartment building. Keeping up his promise of being the perfect gentleman, he walked you to the passenger side and opened the door for you. His hand on your lower back the entire way. Once you were both settled in the car he passed you his phone, spotify was pulled up.
âAlright D.J. do your thing.â He said, pulling out of the lot and onto the street. You laughed and took the phone from him.
Ok do NOT fuck this up!
âAh the real test.â You scrolled for a little.
âYou probably think I'm going to play something Queen.â You saw the smirk on his face but he stayed silent.
Donât be a cliche bitch.
âWhile i do love Queen, I'm sure that's all anyone ever plays for you now and I refuse to be that person.â You hummed and scrolled through his playlists. Surprisingly you had a lot of the same taste in music.
Should I pick something funny? Maybe a love song? No, to mushy.
âOh I got it.â You said before clicking the one you had chosen. âThank youâ from Led Zeppelin. Just the right amount of lovey without being obvious. You watched his face as the music started. The smirk faded and a soft smile appeared.
âWhy yes boys, sheâs not just a pretty face, sheâs got great music taste too.â You joked. His face didnât change. He turned to glance at you before returning his eyes back to the road, smile still in place.
Oh shit. No real reaction.
âSo, howâd I do?â You asked. You felt almost nauseous with the butterflies in your stomach. He looked to you again, a look you couldn't place.
"Perfect." He answered in almost a whisper. There was something more to that answer, you could feel it. There was tension in the car. Not a bad one, not a sexual one. Just an energy, an electric charge. This wasn't going to be just a regular date.
I wonder if he can feel that too.
Before either one of you could break the tension your phone chimed with a text message. You took your phone from your purse to see a message from Morgan.
âYAS you sexy bitch! Get that dickinâ down girl!â You couldnât help the laugh that bubbled up and out of you.
âWhatâs so funny?â Ben asked.
Oh shit
You put your phone on silent and put it back in your purse after texting her back a thumbs up and a winking emoji. The mood in the car shifted, it was light, fun and you could breathe normal again.
âJust Morgan being Morgan.â
âIs that the âLet me know if you need me to get you out of this awful date and I'll make something up.â text?â You laughed and shook your head.
Nope, just my best friend wishing me good luck on tryin to sex you up tonight.
âNo, actually believe it or not, we didnât even have that conversation.â You told him truthfully. The thought of coming up with an escape plan in case things went south didnât even cross your mind. His smile grew.
âFeelinâ pretty good about this date then?â He chuckled, doing his best to joke but you could hear the nerves in his voice. You turned your full attention to him and put your elbow on the middle console, your chin resting in your hand, a warm smile on your lips. He pulled up to a stop light as you answered.
âVery good.â He turned to look at you, his smile still soft, that look in his eyes you couldnât place was still shining at you. You watched as his eyes moved all across your face, as if he was doing his best to capture every inch of it, commit it to memory so he would never forget.
Oh my god please kiss me.
The mood shifted again and you found it hard to catch your breath.
There is no way he isnât feeling this. Itâs too strong.
He brought his hand up and let the back of his knuckles gently run along the side of your face.
How have I not noticed how full his lips are. I bet they feel amazing.
âMe too.â He whispered.
Oh god I'm in trouble.
The light turned green, the mood shifted again and Ben continued to the restaurant. As if that intense moment hadnât just happened. All the mood changes were making you dizzy.
The rest of the ride was nice, you chatted about little things, his upcoming projects, how the rest of your work day was. When you pulled into a spot at the restaurant, Ben jumped out and ran around to your side of the car opening the door for you and offering his arm. You grinned at him and looped your arm in his.
Once inside and at your table, a perfect cozy spot in the corner, Ben pulled your chair out for you. You recognized the name of the restaurant, âEmberâ . It was the new hot spot. It was only open a few months and already the reservation list was booked up till a year and a half from now.
How did he get us in here? He doesn't seem like one of those actors to use his name or the fact that heâs an actor, to get what he wants.
You stopped looking at your menu to look at him, his eyes were roaming the page.
âI have to say, Iâm a little impressed you were able to get us here on such short notice.â He laughed and glanced up at you.
âDonât be. The head chef, Ryan, is a close mate from back home. I had to beg him for about an hour after I left your office to get us a table.â
Ugh. The cutest.
âThat and while i'm in town I owe him 3 nights of babysitting his 4 year old daughter, Olivia, so him and his wife can go out. So yeah not too impressive.â
Jk, that was the cutest. And now I'm picturing Ben with a 4 year old. I am fuckin done for.
âI wouldnât say that. I find the fact that you called my office to find out my favorite flower, begged your friend for a table at his restaurant and gave up 3 of your nights to babysit all to have dinner with some girl you just met 10 hours ago kinda impressive.â He smiled and set his menu aside.
"Well she's definitely not just some girl." You also put your menu aside, your head tilted sweetly to the side.
"Oh no?"
"No, she's special." Your heart skipped a beat. That same electric feeling from the car was back.
Fuck.
"Well she thinks you're pretty special too." His face went red and he looked down at the table to try and hide it. The waitress approached the table. She was young, early 20s for sure, pretty and clearly recognized Ben. The electric feeling was gone again.
"Hi, I'm Kate. I'll be your server tonight. Can I start you off with a drink?" She said a little too sweetly. She angled herself towards Ben, her back slightly to you. You could already feel yourself getting agitated.
Please do not fuck up my night with this man you little hoe.
Ben ordered a bottle of wine for the two of you after looking to you for the okay which you gave with a smile and nod. Kate leaned into him just so as he ordered an appetizer for you to share. You were not normally a fan of guys who ordered for their dates but something about the way Ben did was incredibly sexy.
"Is that alright my darling?" He asked. His eyes were wide and innocent, a slight blush on his cheeks.
He's so considerate. And completely oblivious.
You could see the annoyed look on Kate's face as he addressed you. You smirked.
"Of course, whatever you want. I trust you." You said and placed your hand on top of his that was resting on the table. His smile grew so wide it took up his entire face.
He's gonna kill me with that smile.
He flipped his hand over in yours so he could hold it properly. He glanced down at them then back up to you, a questioning look on his face. You smiled and squeezed his hand in reassurance. His wide smile was back again.
"I'll go put this in." Kate said, trying to pull his focus.
"Thank you." He replied and held the menus out of her to take. His eyes never leave you. You felt a surge of confidence pull through your whole body. She huffed, took the menus from him.
"Don't we need those to order?" You asked.
"Oh, Ryan said he wanted to make us something special. For us to just order an appetizer and wine and he would take care of the rest." Â
Wow VIP treatment. I'm seriously impressed.
Kate rolled her eyes and turned to leave.
"Oh Kate, could we also get some water please?" You smiled at her. You couldn't help that it was a little smug. Before she could answer Ben brought your joint hands up to his lips, placing a kiss to your knuckles before returning them to the table.
Perfect timing you charming bastard.
"Of course." She answered with a fake, forced smile and left. Your eyes returned to Ben. His smile was shining, addictive and contagious. You could feel yours growing to match. The conversation flowed easily. You talked about everything. Gone were any awkward moments. It was like you had known each other for years vs. only a few hours. You both were still shy and nervous at times but were growing more confident and comfortable as dinner went one. After you both had the amazing meal Ryan prepared for you, he came over to the table.
"Well well if it isn't little Jonesy." He laughed and threw his arm around Ben's shoulders, pulled him close and tousled his hair.
"Mate come on. I'm on a bloody date. Stop it." He struggled to get out of his friend's hold. Ryan laughed and placed a big smacking kiss on Benâs cheek.
âMuah! Missed you mate.â
âYeah yeah I missed you too. Now get off of me.â He shook him off but he was grinning the entire time. Ryan shoved at his shoulder with a matching grin before turning his attention to you.
"You must be Y/N, It's a pleasure to meet you." He said, offering his hand to shake.
"And you. Thank you so much for that meal. It was amazing. You are very talented" You gushed and met his hand with yours.
"Great taste and extremely beautiful." Ryan said letting your hand go and leaning into Ben's side.
"That she is." Ben answered, his eyes trained on you. Your heart fluttered.
"She's far too good for you Jonesy." Ryan joked.
"Don't I know it." You were sure your face was red and flushed.
Well that couldn't be more untrue. I'm so worried you're going to realise I'm just an average girl and then you'll be gone.
"Alright shove over, let's catch up for a bit." Ryan said grabbing a chair from a nearby table and pulling it up to yours. Ben slid his chair over to make room.
Oh shit, here we go nerves.
He was now sitting next to you rather than across. His arm instinctively draped over the back of your chair.
Okay, okay deep breath. Fuck he smells so good. No more deep breaths.
The boys chatted away, mostly about what they've been up to and Ryan's family. Ryan asked what you did, you told him and explained that was how you and Ben met.
"You know I would love to do a piece on you." You said taking a sip of wine. Having Ryan there had calmed your nerves, took some of the pressure off. You were relaxed and you could tell Ben was too. He leaned back in his chair, arm still draped over the back of yours. You were lent forwards, elbows on the table engaged in the conversation.
"Me?" Ryan laughed surprised.
"Yeah, I think the people would love to learn about the head chef at the new hot spot. I mean only if you're interested that is. You don't have to. Just a thought."
âThat sounds good. Jonesy can give you my number, give me a call and weâll set it up.â You smiled, feeling proud. This was gonna get you some serious points with your boss.
âAlright, I'm going to stop hogging your date and get back to work. Y/N it really was a pleasure meeting you. I look forward to seeing you again.â He said leaning over to place a kiss on your cheek.
âJonesy Iâll see you soon for babysitting.â He laughed, hugged his friend and whispered to him.
âShe seems perfect for you mate, donât fuck it up.â Ben laughed and kissed his cheek the same way Ryan had upon arriving at the table.
âIâm sending you guys some desert so get comfortable.â He said before leaving. You turned to look at Ben over your shoulder, he was grinning at you.
"What?" You asked, now matching his grin. He brought the hand that was draped over the back of your chair, up to your exposed back and let the tips of his fingers run across the skin. Despite feeling hot all over, you shivered and goosebumps appeared.
"I've never seen him take to someone so fast. Especially someone I'm interested in."
Ok butterflies, calm down.
âI guess that means I'm pretty awesome.â You joked and leaned back in your chair, turned towards him, your knees now touching. His hand moved to the side of your face. He brushed a piece of hair behind your ear and let his finger gently continue over the shell of your ear, down your jaw and across your chin. Your heart was hammering in your chest. His touch was so soft and gentle you couldn't help but lean into him slightly.
Fuck. Me. Up.
âIâd say pretty awesome doesn't even begin to cover it.â
I swear if you don't kiss me right fuckin now i will exploed.
As if he was reading your thoughts he leaned in slowly, giving you the chance to pull away. He was so close now, you could feel his soft, warm breath across your face.
"Here's your desert." Kate, the waitress interrupted and placed a plate of chocolate covered strawberries on the table between you.
God damn it!
She had a satisfied smirk on her face.
Bitch
Ben pulled back, cleared his throat and offered a weak smile to Kate. It took everything in you not to huff and pout like a child not getting the toy they wanted.
"Chef asked me to give you this." Kate said and passed what looked like the check to Ben before leaving again. You watched as his eyes traveled over it and a grin spread across his face.
"Cheeky shit." He laughed and handed it to you. It was a note from Ryan.
Dinner is on me. Not because of you Jonesy, cause your beautiful date. She charmed the pants off me. The wife's gettin lucky tonight! Hope you are too.
A warm blush spread across your cheeks.
"Well that was very sweet of him." You said trying not to focus on the "hope you get lucky" comment.
"He likes to embarrass me." Ben laughed and nudged the plate towards you. "Strawberry?"
You both ate your dessert and continued to chat. You couldn't believe how easy it was to talk to him. Sure you still got nervous and giddy when he smiled at you and your heart would speed up, making your hands sweat but for the most part your nerves had calmed down enough for you to hold a conversation without stumbling over your words and flushing at the smallest up turn of his lips. When you finished Kate returned to the table to remove the plate and ask if you needed anything else.
âActually may I borrow your pen?â Ben asked. She nodded and handed it to him. A hopeful look on her face. He took the note from Ryan, turned it over. You watched over his shoulder as he wrote:
Thanks for dinner you sexy man. See you soon for babysitting.
And signed it with a heart.
Kate looked disappointed.
Ha!
âOh me nextâ You said, getting an idea. You searched your bag for your lipstick. Red lipstick wasnât really your style but Morgan had convinced you to buy it once and itâs been in your bag ever since. You put it on, making sure to get it in the corners and lay it on thick. You could see Ben watching you out of the corner of your eye. His mouth was parted slightly and his eyes followed your hand as it traveled across your lips. You smirked at him a little as you rubbed your lips together before pressing your lips to the paper, leaving a perfect kiss mark. You wrote a quick thank you next to it.
âHeâs gonna love that.â Ben said, his voice deep and a little rough.
Holy hotness batman
He gave Kate her pen back and asked if she would pass the note back to him. She agreed and left with the plate and note. Ben stood and held his hand out to you.
âReady love?â
Your heart jumped a little.
Fuck I hope i never get used to hearing that
âReadyâ You slyly wiped your sweaty hands on your dress before placing your hand in his. He helped you up and intertwined your fingers, pulling you close to his side as you both walked out of the restaurant. The car ride back to your apartment was filled with laughs. Ben was telling you stories about him and Ryan and all the crazy things they used to do, how they met, how Ryan met his wife and when Ryan asked Ben to be Oliviaâs godfather.
When he pulled into the parking lot of your building he insisted on walking you to your door. âAll part of the perfect gentleman packageâ he told you. He took your hand again during the elevator ride up to your floor and swung your connected hands slightly as he walked you to your apartment and released it when you stood in front of the door.
Ok, goodnight kiss, let's do this!
"Thank you Ben, I had a really great time." He took a small step forward and placed one hand on your hip, your heart sped up. His hand felt heavy and the heat coming from him being so close spread through your entire body.
"So did I. Thank you for agreeing to go out with me tonight. I never do this kind of thing but I couldn't leave your office without a definite way to see you again." He laughed a little to ease his nerves, his head leaning slightly closer to you.
Oh god ok, breath
"Well I'm very glad you did." You said, much softer than you intended. Ben had his bottom lip trapped between his teeth as his eyes traveled over your face, landing on your lips. He was close and you could feel his breath across your face again, like at the restaurant. His heavy hand still firm on your hip, his thumb now rubbing along soothingly.
Please kiss me
He brought his other hand up to the side of your face, letting the tips of his fingers run over your cheekbone.
Pleeeease kiss me
You took a chance and placed your hand at the nape of his neck, letting your fingers intertwine in his hair. He smiled and licked his lips.
PAH-LEEAS KISS ME DAMN IT!
"Y/N, can I kiss you?" He whispered.
FUCKIN FINALLY!
Too afraid you'd actually say what you were thinking, you nodded. He smiled and leaned in slowly to close the space between you. You instantly felt an electric shock travel through you causing you to move closer towards him and tug on his hair. He moaned into the kiss and slid his hand from your hip to your back, pulling you flush against him.
You sighed at the feeling of him being pressed against you and your lips parted. Ben wasted no time and slid his tongue along yours. You moaned and let your unoccupied hand glide up his torso, feeling his tight muscles under his shirt to rest on his chest. Ben's hand that was near your face moved to join his other on your back.
Your entire body was on fire, your head spinning, either from the intensity of the kiss or the lack of oxygen, you weren't sure. Just when you were about to pull back to see if he wanted to move things inside, he slid one of his hands down to rest on the curve of your ass.
You whined and pushed back into his hand. He moaned and gripped your ass roughly, causing you to involuntarily snap your hips forward into his. He moaned again and finally pulled away. Ben was panting heavily, his lips were swollen and red, his cheeks flushed and warm. You were sure you looked the same.
Alright, say something cool and invite him inside
You opened your mouth to speak but he beat you to it.
"I can't do this." Your heart dropped and you could feel the color drain from your face.
A/N: Sorry for the cliffhanger but i need to make sure you come back! Donât hate me!

5 Simple Rules For A Successful Fake Relationship: The Perfect Date
5 SIMPLE RULESÂ MASTERLIST
Pairing: Ben Hardy x Reader
Summery: There's trouble in paradise for you and Ben but will the distance bring about some revelations? And what does it mean for your romantic reunion?
Warnings: The usual fairly innocent stuff, some swearing and drinking and mentions of smoking, but with the additions of PDAs out the wazoo, public make out, private make out.
Words: 8093
A/N: Things get a lil spicy in this one! Small disclaimer that I donât drink so I have no idea what wine does to someone, or two someones who split a bottle. Also just another reminder that this was in no way inspired by rumours regarding Benâs rl relationship with Olivia Cooke. I believe theyâre legit, and I will not engage with anyone about that topic.Â

You headed straight to the bathroom and threw up. Ben had called twice on your way home, but youâd let it go to voicemail, not ready to hear him admonish you for eavesdropping on him or to be asked if you felt the same. You supposed it was adrenaline or something that was making you feel nauseous. Of course, youâd have to talk to him eventually, at least to apologise for going so off book, but it could wait until you werenât feeling so miserable. With teary eyes, you made your way to the kitchen, grabbed a drink to help settle your stomach, and then flopped onto the couch to flick through TV channels until you found something distracting enough. Your phone rang again but when you glanced at the screen it wasnât Benâs name you saw. âMary?â If she heard any evidence of your distress in your voice she didnât mention it, âBrilliant performance Y/N. The video was tweeted out about ten minutes after you left the restaurant and itâs already been shared more than youâd believe.â âOh, thatâs good.â âBetter than good. People are eating it up. Thereâll be articles tomorrow predicting your breakup and not just the ones weâve organised. Weâre going to ask that you and Ben refrain from seeing each other in public for the next two weeks or so, make it look like youâre taking some time apart. Thatâll give the video plenty of time to circulate and allow us to get out a few variations of the trouble in paradise story. Of course, youâre free to visit each other and speak over the phone but be wary in case other paparazzi start following you in addition to the oneâs weâve hired. Chances are more people will be looking to scoop the official breakup story if all goes as well as these early numbers indicate it will. Then weâll hit them with the romantic makeup dinner at Boucher. And after that itâs back to playing the happy couple. Of course thereâll be the press junket and premiere in a couple of monthsâ time and then we can break you up for good.â She kept talking about plans for he press tour, something about flights and hotels, but you stopped paying attention, already getting twitter open and searching for the video. It didnât take long to find it, the caption proclaiming he whoâd caught the footage had noticed you and Ben arrive and had pulled out his camera as soon as he realised things werenât particularly happy. âSorry, Mary, Iâm gonna have to call you back.â âEverything alright?â âYeah, just a small mishap with the washing machine. Iâll talk to you later.â As soon as she was gone you pressed play on the video. Filmed from a table to the left of yours and slightly behind your shoulder, the phone tipped at an angle so it wouldnât be spotted. Your heart pounded as you watched. It was all there, the tension thick enough to cut with a knife as Ben tried to draw you into conversation. You heard the bite in your tone, the confusion in his. And you saw what youâd not noticed in the moment. The way his face fell when you said it was too much. The way his nails dug into his palm as he clutched his fork so tightly. The hurt on his face when you called him clingy and needy. He stood up as you walked away but he didnât follow, just dragged his hand through his hair and then sat down heavily, worrying at his thumbnail with his teeth. The waiter came over, presumably with the bill but the video cut out before anything more was said. Theyâd got what they wanted. They didnât need the aftermath.
The next day there was an unexpected knock on your door. You put down your phone where you were watching the video again and peeked out the window, worried that it was Ben come to confront you. Instead you saw Felicity raise her fist and knock again. âI saw the video,â was the first thing she said when you let her in, âare you okay?â âI wish people would stop asking me that. Iâm fine.â âYou had a straight up cat fight in the middle of a restaurant, and there are paparazzi practically camping in your front yard, youâre not fine.â âOkay, maybe not fine fine. But itâs whatever. How many are out there?â âThree. But what happened? Last week you told me you werenât going to break up.â âWe havenât broken up.â âWell then what was that?â âI donât know. Itâs been building for a bit I guess. Heâs just more serious about it all than I am.â âSo I heard. Are you sure you arenât just panicking?â âPanicking about what?â âWell, yâknow, youâve been in the tabloids a bit lately. That must put a strain on things. Maybe you just got a little freaked out by it and pushed Ben away rather than let yourself be vulnerable,â âWhat are you my shrink?â âHey, Iâm just trying to help.â âYeah well, youâre wrong. The paps are kind of annoying but they arenât the problem. The problemâŚâ you took a breath as you considered what was safe to say, âthe problem is that Ben has been on a different page to me for a while now. I think we both just need some space.â âOkay, if thatâs what you want to go with,â she clearly didnât believe you, âHave you talked to him about it?â âNot yet. Figured Iâd call back sometime today when my head was clearer.â She nodded, âWell, Iâm here for you. Whatever you need. Moral support when you call him or someone to bitch to afterwards or just somebody to get drunk with.â She pulled you into a hug, squeezing you tight and for a moment you felt like you might cry. All you could think about was Benâs expression when you walked out, how wounded he looked.
Felicity stayed with you for the rest of the day which was good because her presence stopped you from doing nothing but watching the video over and over again. As it was you found it hard to keep yourself from looking at the comments people left on it. A lot of people took Benâs side, calling you a bitch or worse, sometimes even direct messaging you their opinions. But there were also those lampooning Ben for smothering you, some going so far as to claim they were early signs of manipulative and controlling tendencies and that he deserved the public humiliation of it all. Those were the comments that made you feel worst. Being called a cunt you could deal with. Being told Ben deserved better you could easily deal with. But seeing such horrible suggestions of Ben being thrown about made your heart ache. He wasnât mean or manipulative. Heâd been nothing but kind to everyone on set and especially to you. Any lingering annoyance that hadnât left you along with the little youâd eaten seemed to melt away, leaving you feeling cold at the thought of what youâd said. Yes heâd been stupid and selfish to agree to pretend to date you when he actually had a crush on you. But not once had he tried to wheedle a confession of love from you, not once had he pushed himself onto you. Heâd always been respectful of your boundaries, warned you before he kissed you, asked if you wanted to share a blanket rather than just assume you did. Even your rules heâd mostly stuck to. The one exception being the cutesy nickname, but youâd never put up much of a fight with that. You only knew that he felt something for you because youâd listened in to a private conversation. And really, could you blame him for developing feelings? Youâd literally been cast as lovers because you had good chemistry and then youâd spent weeks getting even closer, made all the more necessary by your fake romance. He was hardly the first person in history to have his on-screen feelings transfer to real life. And surely, if heâd decided to tell his friend everything, even after signing contractual documents about keeping it secret, then he must be serious about you, about how much he liked you. Maybe you had it wrong. Maybe there was something there you hadnât consi-. âStop wallowing,â Felicities voice cut through your thoughts, âPut the phone down and stop thinking about Ben for five minutes.â You shook your head to clear it, âIâm not wallowing.â âAre you on twitter right now?â âMaybe,â âYouâre wallowing. Câmon, give me the phone.â She held out her hand, giving you had no choice but to hand it over. âHas anyone ever told you youâd make a good teacher,â âOnce or twice. You can have this,â she brandished your phone at you and then shoved it into her bag, âback when youâre ready to call Ben. Until then we are getting out of the house.â âOut of the house where?â you asked, letting her pull you from your seat. âJust out. You need some fresh air. Go on, get your shoes.â âAlright, alright, Iâm going,â you said, with the first genuine chuckle youâd had in days.
You ended up at the park a street over, sitting on a bench overlooking the duckpond. One or two of the photographers followed you, but they were easy to ignore. As soon as you stopped moving your mind was back on the previous night, but Felicity must have sensed as much for she quickly blurted out a fun fact about ducks to distract you. For the rest of the time you were there she kept your mind on other things. She gave you an extended rundown on all the gossip from her workplace. It didnât matter that you didnât know who Derick was, you soon heard all about his tryst with the copy boy, and when you asked if the Susie M who was mentioned was the same Susie M that made out with the boss at last yearâs Christmas party you heard all about the fallout from her drunk misstep. Felicity led you on a stroll around the pond as you laughed at her stories and filled her in on what you were hoping your next role would be. âIâve been sent a couple of interesting scripts. Thereâs one for a sci fi time travel thing which Iâm hoping to get a call back for. And there was one for a comedy about a coven of witches causing mayhem with their potions. Iâm only about halfway through the script but Iâd happily play any of the three lead witches, so I think Iâll have a crack at it.â âThey both sound really good. Different to your last role.â âYeah. Differentâs good though.â Eventually you wound your way towards a small coffee shop opposite the far side of the park. The slice of apple tea cake you ordered was the first food youâd eaten since the few bites at dinner and Felicity didnât let you leave until youâd finished it, though she was subtle in her insistence. When you put your fork down with food still left on the plate she ordered a second coffee for each of you which gave you little to do but keep eating. You thanked her after but she pretended not to know what you were talking about. It wasnât until you got home again that she returned your phone. âYou should call Ben,â âDo I have to?â âStop pouting and do it. Youâre cute together and you obviously love him. Just suck it up and talk to him.â You let out a heavy sigh and then took the phone back, refraining from rolling your eyes at how wrong she was about your feelings.
You headed out onto the back patio and, with some slight trepidation, called Ben. The call rang out. With a frown you headed back inside only to be greeted by Felicity making chicken noises. âI didnât chicken out, he just didnât pick up. He must be busy.â âOr heâs upset. Call back. You can come in after heâs not picked up three times or youâve had a chat.â âOkay, Iâll try again, jeez,â you went back outside and shut the door behind you. Your second attempt was as unsuccessful as your first and you were just about to hang up on the third try when he picked up. âHello?â âHi Ben,â âY/N,â there was none of the joy in his voice that usually accompanied your name. âCan we talk, is now a good time?â âYeah,â âOkay, I just, uh, I wasnât sure since you didnât pick up straight away.â âWell I wouldnât want to come across as more needy than I already do.â âI shouldnât have said that,â you leaned against the wall of the house in the same spot youâd seen Ben lean countless times after youâd told him he couldnât smoke inside, âIâm so so sorry about everything I said.â âItâs not what you said, Y/N. I get it, we had to fight and you let loose. From an acting perspective Iâm actually really fucking impressed. I, uh, I might have watched the video when I got home, just once, and it looks legit. Like, that line about pretending to love me as much as I do you.â You held your breath, waiting for him to ask how you knew. âI mean, thatâs exactly what we were going for anyway, just without the details of not having met each otherâs families. Everyone still heard us argue about moving at different paces and it was some really great improvisation.â âYou think so?â âYeah absolutely. I donât think I could have come up with a line like that on the fly. Seriously, if we were allowed to tell people it was fake, that would have fit well on your audition reel.â âSo youâre not upset with me?â There was a pause as Ben thought about his next words. âNot upset exactly. Like I said, I get that it was a scene. But the way you sounded when you called me clingyâŚ.it was pretty clear there were some real feelings in there too and I,â Ben sighed, âI just wish youâd talk to me about how you were feeling beforehand.â âI didnât really know how.â âBut if Iâd known that I was making you uncomfortable or coming across as clingy I would have pulled back. I could have texted less or crashed at your place less often. Not insisted on buying you books on our fake dates.â You scuffed your foot against the ground, not sure whether to come clean about overhearing him. Youâd expected Ben to have realised by now that you knew, not to take what youâd said as some incredible performance. âI know I got kinda caught up in it all though,â he said before you could summon the courage to admit anything, âI, um, I really likeâŚâ You could feel your heart racing, convinced he was about to confess his feelings for you, completely unsure how to react. ââŚbeing someoneâs boyfriend.â âOh,â Why was he so determined to surprise you? Why did you feel disappointed? âIt suits me. I like having someone to dote on and take care of and talk to and I guess itâs been a while since I properly, seriously dated anyone. I feel like Iâve got all this boyfriend energy stored up and nowhere for it to go. It comes in handy when weâre pretending to be on a date or whatever but sometimes it slips out when weâre just hanging out as friends, without the cameras and all that. Which isnât an excuse or anything, Iâm not trying to undermine any discomfort you felt.â âNo, I get it.â âYou do?â âYeah. I mean, we said it was a weird situation right back when it was first pitched to us. That hasnât really changed, has it?â âNo,â he said with a small, soft chuckle, âstill weird.â âExactly. And sometimes I think it can be kind of confusing.â âConfusing?â You had a sudden mental image of a dog with pricked up ears, âConfusingâs maybe the wrong word. Hard to keep up with is I guess what Iâm trying to say. Itâs different to acting in love with someone on a movie because on a movie thereâs a definite time span. The director calls cut and you can stop pretending. But we donât get that cut. Even when thereâs no cameras weâre still faking it for the people we know and anyone who might see us,â you glanced inside to make sure Felicity wasnât listening in. âDo you think thatâs why you didnât know how to talk to me? Because thereâs no clear line between Y/N and Ben as friends and Y/N and Ben as a couple.â âMaybe,â you shrugged, âI donât think it helps.â âYeah. Itâs like, obviously there are times when we have to be all coupley and I guess it gets hard to say when something is uncomfortable because then itâs like what about next time weâre out and we have to do that thing anyway. And there are things Iâm happy to do with my friends that I donât think twice about but might carry extra meaning in our situation.â âExactly. I donât want to say I donât like something and make you feel bad when we then have to do it because people are watching.â âSo what are you suggesting then?â âWell, we arenât allowed to see each other in public for a couple of weeks now, right? So maybe this could be a chance for us to take a break. Not in a completely cut off way, I still wanna talk to you and stuff. But if we give ourselves some space, yâknow. Try and shakeâŚ.excess feelings a-and work out our boundaries better.â âSure, yeah, I can see how that would help.â âItâs just a couple of weeks and like we can still text or call or whatever we just wouldnât hang out together and it wouldnât be every day.â âY/N, I get it. Itâs a good idea.â You took a deep breath, âOkay. Cool. Um, so weâre good?â âOf course we are. I-â Ben seemed to stop himself from saying something, instead sighing, âWeâre good,â âGood.â There was nothing else to stay but you didnât want to hang up. Neither did Ben, it seemed, both of you just standing in silence. You could hear faint music playing on his end, like it was coming from another room. Maybe he was in his kitchen, leaning against the bench, the radio on in the next room over. Or maybe he was sitting on his couch, the TV down low so the repetitive game music wouldnât disturb your conversation. You could see him so clearly, sitting in his usual seat, controller abandoned beside him. You wondered if he could tell where you were. âI guess I should go then,â He said softly, âIâll talk to you soon.â âBye Ben,â âBye cud- Y/N.â
âHowâd it go?â Felicity asked when you came back inside. âAlright. Weâre gonna take a break from seeing each other so much and sort out how we feel and stuff.â âThat sounds good,â âYeah,â you felt relieved at having had the conversation but it was mixed with a weird sadness you couldnât put your finger on, making you feel vaguely like you wanted to be sick again. âWhy donât you go lie down for a bit. Iâll hang out and then tonight we can order pizza and watch cat videos or vine compilations or something dumb like that.â âYou donât have to stay, Iâm fine.â âHun, Iâm staying. Maybe Iâll take a run to the shop, pick up some ice cream and booze and face masks. Sound fun?â âDefinitely,â âAlrighty then, itâs a plan.â You felt slightly cheered by the thought as you made your way to your room and fell onto the bed, not bothering to change or move the covers, but it didnât stop room from blurring with tears as soon as you were alone.
Keeping the distance between you and Ben was a mixed bag. On one hand not seeing each other meant there was no lingering pressure of another date or photo opportunity weighing on you. But on the other it also meant a queue of TV shows you felt unable to watch since youâd started them together. You didnât have to worry that Ben would suddenly call you or rock up on your doorstep, unable to keep his affections to himself any longer. But you also missed out on random messages asking if you could remember that song (âyou know the one it was from the early 2000s. Went something likeâŚ,â) or the way heâd chuck popcorn at you from the other side of the couch until you managed to catch some in your mouth. It gave you a chance to relax without worrying you were leading him on, or that youâd say the wrong thing, or that the rules youâd come up with would be broken. But that was because you barely spoke to him. Your communication was kept to text messages whenever something big happened and not much more. Ben sent you a message when he got a call back for one of the movies heâd auditioned for. You texted him when your neighbourâs dog had puppies, partly because theyâd asked if you knew anyone who could adopt one when it was a little bigger, but partly because the second you saw the babies you thought of how much heâd love them. And yes, you were sleeping better without so much pressure and anxiety, but it hadnât stopped Ben from appearing in your dreams and even daydreams, explicitly so more often than you were willing to admit. Then of course there was the bombardment of emails from family and friends checking in on you after theyâd seen the video. It got so out of hand youâd had to make a rare post on your private Facebook account letting them know things were fine, just to get them to stop harassing you. But you couldnât stop the harassment you were getting from strangers on all your other social media pages. You got into the bad habit of checking all the big gossip mag websites for stories about you, following them with as much fervour as any fan might. Ben must have had some paparazzi taking up residence on his street too because you saw countless pictures of Ben going about his day â out with friends, walking to Tesco, smoking outside a pub. And every time there was some story attached either about how heartbroken he was or about how he was sneaking off to meet you in private. You coped the same treatment, though sometimes with the added twist of announcing you were pregnant. All it did was make you wish you could have a hug from Ben and talk about it with him. You came very close to buying a pack of cigarettes one day, just so you could burn one and have its scent linger around your house like Ben had brought it in with him. Felicity was brilliant. She found amusement in the unfamiliar photographers, especially when an article appeared with photos of you and her hugging on your doorstep, speculating youâd moved on from Ben already. It wasnât so surprising that sheâd snuck her way into the magazines she so loved to read considering she checked in on you a lot in the first few days. But, as much as you loved her, and as much as she made you laugh, she had her own job and partner to think about and she couldnât quite grasp what was happening the same way Ben could have. You missed him more than you thought you would, even with all the baggage from his unrequited crush. So much so that the realisation your makeup date was approaching had you grinning as you made your morning coffee, humming the song from his mug.
It was a surprise, though not an unpleasant one, to hear your phone ringing at close to nine the night before the date. You were sitting in bed playing solitaire on your laptop when your ringtone interrupted. Ben was apologetic as he greeted you, repeatedly saying sorry for calling at all. âItâs okay Ben, I really donât mind.â You said, putting the laptop aside and relaxing back against the pillows. âAre you sure? I should have just emailed you.â âBen, stop. Iâm glad you called. Iâve missed hearing your voice.â âYou have?â âOf course I have. I spent two and a bit months doing nothing but listen to you blab, you really think Iâd just forget you?â You could hear his smile when he continued, âIâve missed talking to you too. I figured this would be a good excuse.â âThis being?â âTomorrow night. Peter said heâd send you the info.â âOf course, yeah I got his email. Tomorrow night, meeting at Boucher at seven.â âYup, thatâs the info.â âI was told to dress up and be prepared to smooch.â âDid he say smooch?â âNo,â you laughed, âHis phrasing sounded a lot stuffier and careful not to create a lawsuit, but I figured thatâs what he meant.â âYeah, um, youâre okay with that?â âAbsolutely. Itâs a makeup dinner and weâre going to be together for another couple of months so we should play up the romance and the um, physicality and all that.â You tried to ignore the sudden warmth in your cheeks and the memory of your last dream. âOkay, good because I was specifically told about what happens when we leave the restaurant.â âHmmm I think I remember something about that but again, stuffy non-lawsuit language. Kinda hard to follow at times.â âBasically they want us to make out while we wait for an Uber. Like, proper make out.â âOh,â âI told them neither of us are public make out people but theyâre insisting they need it. Something about it being an obvious indication of getting back together or whatever. And technically we agreed to it when we signed up for this whole thing.â âThanks for the heads up.â âNo worries. Glad I called now, wouldnât have wanted to just spring that on you. But um, thatâs it really, Iâll let you get back to your last night of peace.â âWait,â you blurted without having anything else to say. âYeah?â âUmmm, oh! Did you hear anything more about that movie?â âNot yet but Peter said theyâre still in talks. Hopefully soon.â âWhatâs it about?â âItâs an actiony thriller thing. This guy, the role I auditioned for, witnesses a murder and then gets dragged into this revenge mission. Iâd get to shoot some big guns and drive a cool car and yâknow save the girl, all that stuff.â âSounds fun,â âYeah, what about you, any auditions?â âOne or two but nothingâs come of them. I sent my reel in for this supernatural comedy about a coven of witches. Too soon to know anything though.â âWell I hope you get it,â âYeah, likewise.â âThanks.â You were forcefully reminded of your last conversation when you both lapsed into silence again, neither of you making any move to hang up. You wanted to keep talking but part of you was worried that if you used up all your conversation topics now, youâd have nothing to talk about over dinner tomorrow, and if that happened you were bound to blurt out something you shouldnât. Instead you just savoured the sound of Benâs breaths and the odd rustle of clothing as he shifted around. Once again he was the one to break the silence. âWell, as lovely as it has been to chat, I should go. Gotta get a good night sleep so Iâm ready to woo you tomorrow.â âYouâre not going to bed yet are you? Itâs so early,â âI was gonna read or something for a bit actually.â âHave you finished that show we started?â âWhich one?â âAny of them? âNo. Figured they could wait.â âYou wanna watch one now?â âWhat, over the phone?â âYeah, we can try to time it so it plays at the same time.â âUh, sure, why not,â You quickly grabbed your laptop and, after some discussion of which show you were more in the mood for, found the right episode. There was laughter on both ends of the line as you attempted to hit play at the same time, counting down from three between giggles. It took you a few tries but you eventually got them to sync up, more or less. It felt nice to hear Benâs laughter again, his voice when he sang along with the soundtrack, his comments about the nitty gritty of the production side â odd line deliveries and angles of shots. He was easy to talk to. Though with everything that had happened, everything you knew, just the act of talking to him set off butterflies in your stomach.
It took you well over an hour to get ready for the date. Youâd been told to go all out so thatâs exactly what you did. With a little help from Felicity so you could get away with a calming pre dinner drink. She gave you a hand choosing an outfit â a dress, short but not too short, classy but eye catching. It had started life as a dress for a movie premiere but after a few years the top didnât fit quite right so youâd had it altered, the skirt was taken up, cut off and attached to a new top that more suited your current style, leaving you with a slightly shorter and much more you outfit. Glass of Prosecco close to hand, Felicity worked on your hair and offered advice on your makeup. When you were finished and could reveal the full look to her, she squealed. âYouâre absolutely going to get laid.â âShut up. I look alright though? Lipstickâs not too dark?â âHoney, you look gorgeous. I swear, youâre gonna get dicked down in the bathroom of that fancy as fuck restaurant because heâs not gonna be able to keep his hands off you.â You burst out laughing, âGood to know. Not exactly the plan for the evening but at least Iâm prepared now.â âWhat is your plan?â âI donât really have one, which is not helping me stay calm. I guess just find out if heâs still interested in me. And then work out where we go from there. We talked last night and that was good but I just need to know if heâs, you know, still into me.â âHeâs head over heels for you, that wonât have changed. The question is, do you love him?â You wanted to say no but obviously couldnât so you settled for a soft, âIâve have missed him.â She hummed with an annoyingly knowing look. âI should be going, the Uberâll be here soon.â Felicity pulled you into a hug, âKnock him dead, Y/N,â and then, as an afterthought added, âdonât do anything I wouldnât do.â âYou first hooked up with your girlfriend because some drunk guy told you heâd buy you both drinks if you made out. Thereâs nothing you wouldnât do.â Felicity laughed, âThat was just a free drink, imagine what Iâd do if there was a fancy French dinner involved.â
You arrived before Ben did. A quick glance up and down the street told you he wasnât approaching just yet, so you opened your clutch to give yourself something to think about other than the sound of snapping cameras. Phone, lipstick, tissues, compact mirror, three condoms. You laughed to yourself when you saw them and made a mental note to lie about how useful they were when you next saw Felicity. Quick footsteps caught your attention and you looked up in time to see Ben running towards you. âSorry, Iâm late,â he said between breaths, pressing a kiss to your cheek as soon as he was within reach, âMy Uber got caught in traffic and I had to make a stop,â He held out a small bouquet of flowers in a variety of pinks, purples and yellows. âFor me?â âNo for the other girl Iâm seeing, of course for you. You like them?â âTheyâre beautiful,â you took the bouquet and breathed in its sweet scent. âI saw it in the shop and, um yeah, I donât know, they seemed nice, a-and I know you, um, like nice things, so,â he stopped babbling with a pained expression on his face, for once more visibly nervous than you. âItâs very sweet of you, thank you,â âIâm glad you think so because right now it feels kinda clichĂŠ and cheesy. Now you have to carry them around all night, what was I thinking? And god can I just shut up. Sorry.â You couldnât help but laugh as he scrunched his nose up and ran his hand through his hair, unintentionally endearing, âCalm down, Ben, weâve done this before.â âI know,â âLetâs just go inside, further away from these cameras, and have a drink, sound good? âGod yes,â he nodded and let you lead him through the door up to the hostess stand, managing to pull himself together enough to give her the name of the booking. As expected, she told you to wait in the bar until a table was ready.
Ben downed his first drink in one hit. It made you wonder how hard he was finding it to be around you. Had the space helped him quiet his feeling for you? Or had it just made him want you more? Was that why he seemed so out of sorts, stumbling over his words in a way that was so unlike him. You desperately wanted to find out where he stood but it was impossible without giving yourself away. What you needed was for him to make another phone call you could overhear but the likelihood of that happening was slim. Youâd just have to put it from your mind for now. âBetter?â You asked Ben as he caught the barmanâs attention and ordered a second drink. âGetting there,â He took the new glass and drank, just a sip this time, âYou look stunning by the way. I should have said it earlier,â âThank you, you look very handsome,â He glanced down at the suit he was wearing, âThanks.â A somewhat awkward silence followed. âSo,â you said, louder than necessary, desperate to get him talking like he normally did lest you start to freak out too, âYou been here before?â âNo. Never even heard of it before Mary and Peter mentioned it. You?â âSame.â You looked around the room, searching for something else to talk about, âNice though.â âYeah, yeah, really swanky.â âBit different from the painting thing,â âYeah, very. Look I need to tell you someth-â âMr Hardy? Your table is ready,â You smiled at the hostess, as he thanked her, and followed her towards a table for two, setting your bouquet down to the side. Ben smiled at you from across the table. âYou were saying?â you asked, apprehensive and curious. âOh, um, nothing, doesnât matter. Weâve got a date to focus on.â âWouldnât want all these prying eyes to miss anything,â âExactly. Cuddle bunny,â You smiled at the nickname despite its ridiculousness and leaned forward in your seat slightly, letting your fingers gently rest against the back of his hand. If he wanted to focus on the date and putting on a good show for the public then that was something you could do, âBabe.â The flush youâd seen creep onto Benâs face before appeared again and he reached for his glass once more. âSo, how have you been?â you asked, pulling your hand back towards you. He looked at its retreat and then back at your eyes, âGood. Got to hang out with the boys a few times last week which was really good.â âBeat them at any more video games?â âThey wonât let me anywhere near FIFA at the moment,â âDiscrimination,â âThatâs what I tried to tell them!â he laughed, seeming to relax a little more, âbunch of babies.â âWhat about that trip thing you were organising, have you sorted that out?â âNot entirely. Itâs with my friend Joe who lives in the States. He was going to come out here but we decided it wasnât worth it since Iâll be over there soon anyway.â âYou will?â âWell both of us will be. Part of the press stuff for The Perfect Match.â âOh, right, of course,â you giggled and tucked your hair behind your ear. âHeâs looking forward to meeting you though.â âI bet he is,â you said automatically. Of course heâd be keen to meet the woman his friend was infatuated with, you would be too. Ben gave you a questioning look but you covered well enough, âI mean, heâd obviously know about us dating so I assume heâd be curious to meet your girlfriend. Especially if weâre having public spats and stuff.â âRight, yeah, definitely. What about you? Whatâs been happening?â
From there you fell into your usual style of conversation, both of you relaxing more as the night wore on and the bottle of wine you ordered grew emptier. The only difference from normal was the romance of it all, played up as much as possible. Brushing hands as you both reached for the salt, soft smiles and laughs. You even went so far as to twirl a strand of hair around your finger like some love struck teenybopper in a soap opera. When your food arrived you let Ben feed you a bite off his fork. You offered a taste of your meal in return and he held your wrist as he leaned in. A gesture that left you breathless, blinking at him as he slowly withdrew his hand. The wineâs fault probably. Youâd polished off the bottle by the time dessert arrived, on top of the drinks youâd had before you sat down. It made you feel looser and you assumed the same of Ben, judging by how different his demeanour was to the nervous, stuttering one heâd had when he showed up. Perhaps that was why, with a spoonful of chocolate mousse halfway to his mouth and no regard for the conversation you were having, he suddenly said, âCan I ask about these last couple of weeks?â âUh, yeah, what dâyou want to know?â âWas it good? The space, did you get what you wanted from it?â You thought for a moment, putting down your own spoon, âYes. Iâm not going to lie and say it wasnât helpful because it really was. Just, having that break from everything. I think I really needed it. But I really really missed you too.â He smiled at that, looking down at his dessert like he was trying to hide it, âIâm glad. It was hard not seeing you but yeah, helped me figure some stuff out too. Confirmed some other stuff.â âLike what? If you donât mind me asking.â âLikeâŚum, the thing I said on the phone about enjoying playing the boyfriend. I like having someone special to share things with,â He sighed, âBut thatâsâŚnot relevant right now. Do you want to get out of here?â You were a little taken aback by the suddenness of the suggestion but agreed, reapplying your lipstick for the cameras while the waiter collected your bill.
Ben wrapped his arm around your waist once you were outside, pulling you close. With the pretext on planting a kiss on your temple he quietly asked if you were ready for the next part. âLay it on me,â you giggled, feeling warm and light. A second later his hand was sliding down your side towards your bum which set off another wave of giggles. He kept you close as you walked down the street, oblivious to the flash of cameras. Ben kept his arm around you, using the other to open the app and order a car. You stopped when you reached a quiet bus stop, Ben letting you go to sit down, tapping the spot beside him. But his hand wasnât gone for long, instead moving to cup your cheek as he pulled you into a kiss. âI missed doing that,â he muttered but you were more focused on making it happen again, shifting yourself closer, laying your hand against him, fingers curling into the fabric of his shirt. His heart was pounding under your palm, but it matched the beat against your own chest. Youâd forgotten how good he was at kissing but it came flooding back as you opened your lips for him, felt his tongue against yours. His hand was firm on your back, pulling you in but still not close enough. You whined, let him pull you onto his lap, pressed yourself against him, one hand in his hair so he wouldnât stop kissing you. His hands were everywhere, on your arms and back and squeezing your arse, holding you in place as you arched your back slightly and kissed him harder. A car horn right beside you made you pull away, startled. âBen?â The older man asked, looking down at their phone, âIâm here to pick you up.â âShit,â Ben said softly, and then to the driver, âSorry, yes, thatâs us.â You let your head fall forward onto his shoulder for a second, smothering your laughter. âCâmon cuddle bunny,â he said softly, âtheyâve had enough of a show.â Your legs felt unsteady as you stood and smoothed your skirt down. Ben opened the back door for you and followed you inside. âSo sorry about that,â he said again to the driver. He just laughed, âItâs alright. I remember being your age and completely smitten. Youâre that couple Iâve seen online, right?â âUh, yes, thatâd be us, I thinkâ âWell if you wanna keep making out I wonât stop you. Might have to tweet about it though.â Ben laughed, âThanks but I think we can hold off for a bit.â You looked over at Ben and had to cover your mouth to keep from laughing too loud when you saw the lipstick smudged over Benâs face. âWhat is it?â Still laughing you handed ben your compact mirror and the pack of tissues from your clutch. âChrist,â he said softly, âThe internetâs going to fucking love this.â
The Uber driver left you at the end of Benâs driveway with a wink and a have fun. There were paparazzi waiting for you so you grabbed Benâs hand and pressed a kiss to his shoulder. He led you inside, refusing to let go of your hand even while trying to dig his keys from the opposite pocket. Once you were inside, you placed your slightly bruised bouquet on the hall stand, leaned against the closed door and began taking your shoes off. Normally, after being out together and winding up at Benâs place, youâd head straight to the bathroom to take off your makeup. Heâd go and fetch two glasses of water if youâd been drinking or maybe something warm if the night was cool. Youâd change into the pyjamas you kept at his place and then join him in the lounge room, sometimes tucking yourselves under the same blanket, to watch TV until you were yawning and struggling to stay awake. And then youâd wish each other good night and head to your separate rooms. But this time something felt different. You kicked your shoes to the side of the hallway and stayed against the door, watching as Ben pulled his wallet from his pocket, dropping it and his keys next to your flowers. He slowly turned towards you, taking a step closer. And you knew you should move, should dodge around him, make a joke about not needing to take off your makeup since heâd already done it for you but you found yourself stepping towards him too. There was a beat as you both realised how close you were. You heard Ben swallow, watched his eyes move to your lips unashamedly. Later, when you were lying in the dark wondering what the fuck had happened, youâd tell yourself it was the wine. A brief impairment of judgement exacerbated by months of celibacy and an easily suggestable brain. Whether you believed it was another question.
You closed the gap but he was only a second behind, hand back on your waist as his other found your jaw. You wrapped your arms around his neck, let him slowly walk you through the house towards the living room you where youâd spent so many nights joking around. He didnât stop kissing you while you stumbled through the house, not unless he had to and even then he never went far, his breath hot against your lips. You pushed him down onto the couch and straddled his lap, continuing what had been interrupted, his hands falling back to your arse, pushing up your skirt, squeezing, as you tugged on his hair, making him groan. A single rational thought was trapped in the back of your mind, trying to breakthrough but it was hard to think when Ben was holding you like that, kissing you like that, especially after so long without being touched at all. He broke away to mouth at your throat and it was only then that you had enough time to think clearly. âWait,â you said softly and then again more insistently. âWhat is it?â âWhat are we doing? We canât,â âWhy not?â You shook your head, and pushed yourself off of him, taking a couple of steps back, âItâs rule one Ben,â âWe wouldnât even have to break rule one though, we can just stay here on the couch. No harm in making out if weâve already done it.â A whine caught in your throat and you took an extra half step back to keep from rushing into his arms again, more rational thoughts pushing through the broken wall and joining the first. You shouldnât, not if there was any chance Ben still had a crush on you. It wouldnât be fair. âIâd be good to you Y/N, you know I would,â You shook your head, âYou know this isnât real, right Ben?â âOf course I know that,â âReally? Because sometimes I think you forget Iâm not actually in love with you.â Whatâs that supposed to mean?â You bit your lip to try and stop yourself from saying what you were about to say but it was no use, the words were already half out, âI heard you talking to Joe the night you left your keys at the bar. I know you have a crush on me.â âYou heard that?â His eyes were wide, horrified. âIâm sorry, I didnât mean to overhear I just needed a drink an-.â âOh my god,â He sat up straighter and ran a hand through his hair again and you wished it was your fingers mussing it up, âMaybe you should go.â âWait, Ben, letâs just talk about it.â âIs that why you were upset before the argument? Is that why you didnât want to see me for the last two weeks?â âI thought some space might help you stop feeling that way.â He laughed at that, âIâm â Iâve been trying to stop feeling like this for months now, since we were filming together, but I canât, I canât shake you. I love you. And it wonât go away.â âYou love me?â Ben nodded, looking up at you from the couch but you couldnât meet his eye. âYou donât have to say you donât feel the same, I know.â You didnât know what to say, just stood there, frozen in place. âThatâs what I thought,â He stood up, chewing on his lip and when he spoke he had to clear his voice to make it loud enough for you to hear, âI, um, I know I just said you should leave but you canât go yet. There are still paparazzi out there and weâre meant to look like weâve made up. Iâm going to go to bed though and you can stay until they leave or, if you can still stand to look at me, then youâre welcome to stay the night and Iâll drop you home in the morning. Iâm really sorry.â You watched him walk towards the hallway, still frozen in place.

I Wanted Believe in Steven (A Critical Steven Universe Post)
Steven Universe, a popular show that has won the hearts of so many people. It had good songs, talks about mental health and relationships, a lovable cast of characters and itâs revolutionary for representing LGBT. As the show finally wraps up with Steven Universe: Future being the series finale, I want to say this⌠I used to believe in Steven Universe. I truly got into it when it first came out and then I started to appreciate it more as the show progressed even with the flaws. However, as time moved on, the showâs flaws have outweighed the strengths, making my enjoyment decline and become critical and nitpicky towards it. So I believe itâs time to point out the many problems with the show.
The Glory Days of Steven UniverseÂ
Before I begin ranting about the show, I want to talk about when I actually liked Steven Universe back in seasons 1-3. It was when everyone actually enjoyed the show before it went downhill.Â
- So before Steven became really annoying, I actually liked him when he was developing in season 1. He was very immature at first but he gradually grew. He became a member of the Crystal Gems and finally summoned his shield.Â
- Peridotâs redemption was handled very well and I enjoyed her character throughout the whole show.
- The show once balanced filler and plot.Â
- I enjoyed the Crystal Gems chemistry back in seasons 1 - 3. They acted like a family with Garnet being the wise guardian, Pearl being overprotective, Amethyst laidback and Steven maturing.
- The songs are great.
- The messages are relatable such as âLove Letter.â Garnet tells Jamie that love-at-first-sight doesnât work. It takes time and a lot of work. You must know the person first before you begin to love someone. Â
Those are the reasons why I enjoyed the show back in the day. Now itâs time to talk about how the Crewniverse messed up everything.Â
Inconsistencies. Are. EverywhereÂ
Steven Universe is well known for having no consistency and thatâs one of the major problems with the show. While I can forgive season 1 animation because letâs face it, not every show has good animation like Phineas and Ferb. Though having characters go off-model consistently gets really irritating to watch. Itâs irritating because most of them are professional storyboard artists and yet theyâre doing a very sloppy job.
The reason behind unprofessional animation is Rebecca Sugar wanted her crew to have artistic freedom and have their own stylistic choice. They can draw whatever they want as long as the viewers can recognize the characters. There are many problems with this.Â
While itâs nice to see the artist's own style it doesnât work with a cartoon thatâs story-driven. Youâll probably argue that some shows like Adventure Time and American Dragon go off-model. However, itâs just redesigned and they stick with it till the very end of their respective series.Â
Also, shows like Ren and Stimpy and Flapjack go off-model because for comedic effect.
So stylistic choice doesnât mean artists can draw whatever they want. It means that a character has their own style.Â
Terrance and Philip from South ParkÂ
Elmore characters from The Amazing World of GumballÂ
Each of them has a unique character design. Itâs not the Korean animator's fault for it, theyâre given what the Crewniverse drew, trace it and just animate it and they canât fix their errors. What makes it upsetting is that animation pilots and shorts made by a single person or independent team with very little funding have more consistent and appealing animation than Steven Universe.Â
I ainât an animator, but I know when animation goes off-model. Sadly, itâs not just inconsistent art that the show suffers from, but inconsistent writing and discontinuity as well.
Such as in âAre You My Dad?â Aquamarine and Topaz knocked out Steven and then she abandoned him while they took Lars, Sadie, Onion, Jamie, and Connie. Then in âI Am My Momâ they lure him and The Crystal Gems out for information to find Greg. So if you wanted to get information to find him, why didnât they just grab him when he was knocked out?Â
Also, why did Aquamarine agree to Stevenâs terms? Her wand is the most broken weapon in the show. She couldâve grabbed everyone including The Crystal Gems.
Garnet couldnât tell Steven about her future vision because it wanted him to go more? If she just told him about Greg's capture, he would have understood. Also, she gave him future visions in âJailbreak,â âSnow dayâ and âFuture Boy Zoltron.â Why didnât she do that for that kind of situation?Â
The Crystal Gems, who have special abilities, summon weapons and powers that fought Gems and Corrupted Gems and yet they were beaten by a freaking Steven Catus, Really?Â
We saw Lapis control the freaking ocean in âMirror Gemâ, âOcean Gemâ and âWhy So Blueâ, so why didnât she use that to remove the injector?
After 6,000 years of waiting for Pink Diamond, Spinel got news about her Diamond and that she gave up her physical form to give birth to Steven. It changed her appearance from happy go lucky to edgy. Now she wants vengeance. So Iâm wondering how was she able to get an injector and a scythe, then go to Earth in under a few hours?Â
In âGiant Woman,â Pearl explains that two gems have to decide to fuse together and they have to sync with each other to do it. In âChange Your Mind,â Steven fuses with the Crystal Gems midair while they are in their gem state.
How the hell did Connie get affected by Blue Diamondâs pathokinesis when Lapis Lazuli arrived in âReunitedâ?Â
She was fine when BD did it the first time.
Mean Lapis and Bluebird are still on the loose. I know most shows leave things unanswered but you canât leave two villains out there. They can still do harm to othersÂ
I really wish the Crewniverse showed more professionalism because there are so many errors in the show and some of them are so simple to fix, yet they donât and thatâs what I call lazy.Â
The Cast of Characters Donât Do Much
I used to like the cast of characters, even the humans I enjoyed watching. When season 4 - Future came in, they got ruined. Most of them donât do much in the show. I feel like they got sidelined because the Crewniverse had no idea what to do with them.Â
Letâs first talk about The citizens of Beach City and how they are the most boring characters in the show. At first, they werenât so bad because they did have a role to play in the story like when The Cool Kids talked to Steven about his mother when he found out that she was a war criminal and he blamed himself for his mother not being around anymore. They also helped him not get scolded by The Crystal Gems when they found Peridotâs escape pod.Â
Thereâs even some slice-of-life episodes that I did enjoy watching such as
âSadieâs SongâÂ
 And âHistorical Fictionâ
But now they donât react to any Gem situation anymore. They just stand around and serve no purpose to the plot. Look at âFutureâ, throughout the whole epilogue mini-series, the humans didnât do a dang thing in the series. For example, The Cool Kids, Lars, Sadie, and Shep donât talk to Steven about his mental health when he was about to crush them with his force field. It just makes it feel that they donât care about him or oblivious about that experience
Then they didnât do squat when Steven became a monster and I know they're just humans but their friends and the show focus on them a lot, so they have to use them. It made me wonder why they even focus on them in season 4 and season 5 if they're not going to serve their purpose in the story.Â
Now let's talk about the more interesting characters and how the Crewniverse wasted them. Many Gems and few human characters (Lars, Greg, Connie) get them characters to grow, face struggles and have moments that can make a character likable. After all that, the Crewniverse had no idea what to do so they just left them.Â
Peridotâs redemption was well written. from season 1 - season 3. From a villain that has unknown technology and feels more alien than the Crystal Gems to a member of the Crystal Gem. As much as I love her development and sheâs my favorite, however, she doesnât do much in the show. Most shows that give a lot of development to a character are part of the main cast but in Steven Universe's case, she gets put in the barn with Lapis Lazuli and does nothing. Sheâs never involved in major story arcs such as she didnât come along to help Steven to get his dad back in Zoo Arc and didnât help with beach city citizens getting kidnapped in Wanted Arc.Â
Even in the Pink Diamond Arc, she has no part to play. All she was in that arc was a punchline and a hyperactive character with no defining moments. While itâs nice she has a new outfit, it doesnât change anything.Â
Peridot had the potential to be a really great character but she got wasted because they had no idea what to do with her.
Pearl and Garnet never got their own character arc. When they fused with Steven to become Rainbow Quartz 2.0 and Sunstone it was rushed. I know they didnât have time to do their arcs but if they cut townie episodes and focused on their bond it wouldâve felt more impactful for him to fuse with them. Season 4 couldâve been Garnet and Season 5 couldâve been Pearl. Just look at Amethyst where she finds mutual respect and love for Steven and thatâs really great to see. With them, we donât have a moment like that.
A good example of using characters is Regular Show. They used their characters pretty well, giving each of them a good amount of screen time.Â
Bensonâs drum soloÂ
Getting to know more about Skips history
Muscle Man setting his ashes free at Great Trucker GraveyardÂ
High Five Ghost reunited with his love interestÂ
Popâs proving that heâs part of the guys for Guys NightÂ
Rigby graduates high school
Mordecai painting for Benson
And what I like the most about is they all have a moment together as best friends. Such as in âParkie Rewards,â although Benson doesnât win an award, the gang made their very own award and paper trophy. Benson made a speech about how he appreciated his staff workers.Â
I really wish Steven Universe had something like that and I really wanted to see more of Lapis, Garnet, Amethyst, and Bismuth but sadly the writers arenât giving them much to do anymore.Â
A Shift of PacingÂ
Steven Universe really wants to tell a story like most cartoon shows are doing such as Over the Garden Wall, Adventure Time, Owl House and many more. They keep adding episodic episodes in the middle of unresolved conflict and have the concluding rushed. An example of this is the Cluster arc.Â
Peridot tells The Crystal Gems that the Cluster will emerge at any time⌠AT ANY TIME! So the gang planned to create a gem drill to destroy it to save the Earth. So instead of working on the drill, they kept delaying it likeÂ
Garnet told her story to Steven of how Ruby and Sapphire metÂ
Celebrating Stevenâs birthdayÂ
Peridot processing on becoming a âCrystal Gemâ
I know Peridot was working on the drill and I like Peridotâs redemption but itâs a life or death situation. You canât do other things when the Cluster can emerge at any time. The way they resolved the arc was really rushed. The Crystal Gems finally locate the whereabouts of Malachite and so Garnet, Amethyst and Pearl go to Watermelon Island and fuse to Alexandrite to defeat her. Then the Cluster emerges and itâs up to Steven and Peridot to deal with it. Instead of destroying the Cluster, he talks to it and it stops itself from emerging by bubbling itself. The way the writers conclude the arc was so anticlimactic and rushed. It ended two major plots, Malachite and Cluster in two episodes and Steven just talking to it was ridiculous. The Cluster arc shouldâve at least had two episodes and Malachite shouldâve come after the event because she was briefly mentioned in three episodes.Â
Adventure Time has a mini-series that primarily focuses on plots. It resolves conflicts and it doesnât waste any time such as Islands, Stakes, and Elements.Â
People tend to blame the network for the inconsistent schedule and hiatus. While it may be true, however, itâs not really a big issue with the show. Gravity Falls isnât consistent with its schedule but it has better pacing than Steven Universe. From Nov. 26, 2014 - Feb 16, 2015, the ep âNorthwest Mansion Noirâ was released, another month of waiting for âNot What He Seems.â Then we have to wait for four months, July 13th, 2015, for âThe Tale of Two Stans.â Then thereâs Steven Universe where we have to wait for six months for the next episode and it is just Towney episodes and it doesnât even matter to the plot. So I pretty much donât understand why people are complaining about the Steven Universe hiatus when Gravity Falls, a well-written show, has a hiatus as well.Â
They couldâve had a well-written story if only they weren't so focused on the human side of Steven and cut most of the filler out.Â
Action Doesnât Have ConsequencesÂ
In most shows, movies, and video games, characters will make rash decisions that have other characters disagree and even have a bit of a falling out. Â
Look at Gravity Falls âLand Before Swine.â Stanley doesnât like Mabelâs pet pig, Waddles, and he left him outside when there was a Pterodactyl in town. Stan left Waddles unattended and caused him to get captured.
Soos messed up a lot in the episode. Without thinking, he barged in as Dipper developed the film which ruined a good picture of the dinosaur.
He tries to be optimistic when Mabel finds out Stanley left him out however it ineffective when he ravels the yarn back up and thus cut the clear path and accidentally break the lamb
To prove their worth is by Stanley fights the pterodactyl to save WaddlesÂ
And Soos and Dipper make up when he apologizes and he admits he made mistakes. Dipper and Mabel then took Soos advice to follow his lead and walk in a straight line as for dinosaurs' eyes are so far apart and that it canât see in front of itself and the plan went well.Â
So with Steven Universe, most characters in the show have done pretty terrible things and the show never atoned for their actions.Â
In âIsland Adventureâ, Sadie trapped Lars and Steven on an island by hid the Gem portal with leaves so she can hit on him. Although she saved his life by poofing the gem monster with a pointy stick, it doesnât help the fact that she trapped them for a month! It is also idiotic that the show treats Lars as heâs the bad guy where in reality, Sadie is!Â
Amethyst, although I do like her character development in the show, however, she did pretty a messed up thing and they never resolved it. In âMaximum Capacityâ, Greg finds out that heâs missing the fireworks and Amethyst shapeshifts from Steven to Greg to cheer him up. She changes back and gets mad at him for not spending time with her. So she shapeshifts to Rose Quartz/Pink Diamond which causes Greg to look away and itâs the second time she has done it, and then Steven comes in to stop and question both of them. Amethyst feels guilty and left. So in order to make things up, she came up with an idea to clean that the Crystal Gems can clean out Greg storage. So this is really messed up. She shapeshifted as his wife and not only it scarred Greg but Steven as well and yet the writers never decided on how they can properly make it up. Thatâs so horrible.Â
Lapis Lazuli took the Earth's water, almost killed Connie, broke Peridot's tape recorder and called it garbage, and she took the barn. When she finally comes back to help the Crystal Gems to fight against the Diamonds. Her response to everyone was âheyâ. She never apologized for anything she has done. I know she has PTSD but it doesnât excuse her actions.Â
The only character that actually feels guilty and has to make amends of her wrongdoing is Pearl. She deceived Garnet by keeping rebuilding Gem communicator so she can fuse with her to form Sardonyx to make herself feel better. Steven and Amethyst find out and spill the beans which gets Garnet mad and Pearl feels guilty. In the last episode of the Sardonyx arc, they get trapped by Peridot. When they were about to get crushed, they two finally talk and Pearl apologizes to her and calls herself âjust a pearlâ and Garnet tells her you are your own gem and that makes her feel better and fused to Sardonyx once again.Â
Now itâs time to talk about the second major gripe with the show that everyone has and itâs the Diamonds being redeemed. The Diamonds are tyrannical fascist dictators that caused genocide many species, colonized many worlds, corrupt gems, shatter gems that donât obey, have an army, gems that are off-color are put to the underground, and force fused shattered gems into a Cluster. After what they have done, you think they need to pay, right? Unfortunately, since Rebecca Sugar said ``there are no villains' ' and the show is about empathy, the Diamonds, especially White Diamond, get a clean slate. So itâs fine to have a villain be sympathetic and have a sad backstory, it makes them more human but having them redeemed is something you should never ever do, especially what theyâve done. They have very little screen time to show their development and have doubts about their empire.Â
Then they made them worse when in Steven Universe: âThe Movieâ and âFutureâÂ
In Steven Universe: âThe Movieâ, The Diamonds become clingy aunties to Steven and tell them donât do evil things anymore like calling other species âequal lifeformsâ, disband their arms and not shatter gems.
In Steven Universe: âFutureâ, The Diamonds abilities have a completely opposite effect towards Gems such asÂ
Yellow Diamondâs ability to change from poofing gems to fixingÂ
Blue Diamondâs ability to change from sad blue orbs to happy blue cloudsÂ
White Diamond's ability changed from manipulation to control her for a brief moment.Â
Having them become good and having emotions wonât cut it. They canât atone for what theyâve done for the past millions of being fascist dictators and just saying âIâm a good Diamond nowâ canât wipe away their past actions. It doesnât work like that!Â
My Little Pony Friendship is Magic, A SHOW FOR LITTLE GIRLS, have a better-written villain redemption than Steven Universe and I ainât kidding. Discord was the main antagonist for âReturn of Harmonyâ. All he wanted to do is cause chaos. He was defeated by the mane six at the end of the second part of the episode.
In season 3, âKeep Calm and Flutter Onâ, Discord was reformed by Fluttershy because Princess Celestia believes he can be a good ally and knows that she can do it.Â
Throughout season 4, everyone still doesnât trust him even though heâs friends with Fluttershy.
In the season 4 finale, he sided with Tirek and he betrayed them because he thought heâll be rewarded for it.Â
Then he was betrayed by him. After Tirek and Twilight fought, she gave up her magic to save her friends, including Discord. It made him realize that friendship is more precious than anything of what heâll give him and thatâs when heâs been fully accepted as a friend to the mane six.Â
I also want to talk about Rose Quartz/Pink Diamond. While many fans in the community and the Crewniverse always point that sheâs terrible and I agree she is. Such as leaving Spinel for 3,000 years, cracked her first Pink Pearl, abandoned her Diamond duties to be free, started a Gem war that cost many Gems to shatter to pursue her own goal, bubbled Bismuth, gems got corrupted, and left Steven with the burden. It is indeed bad but when compared to the Diamonds, sheâs more of a saint than them. At least she does develop, doesnât shatter gems and save the Earth from the Diamonds.Â
With story pacing being all over, villains and even characters arenât paying for their actions and a cast of characters arenât doing much, whatâs the most problematic of the show? Well, itâs a combination of all my problems into one and that isâŚ
Steven âCenter Ofâ Universe
The major problem with the show, the one that brings down the show a lot and itâs Steven Omnipresence. First off, I donât mind when a show has a protagonist point-of-view like Ben 10, Phineas and Ferb, Over the Garden Wall, etc. As long as it's written well and keeps the story moving, itâs fine but with Steven Universe, it has tons of problems. Steven's point-of-view is the cause of all its flaws and I canât stress it enough about it.Â
So letâs first talk about the obvious one and how itâs only Steven's perspective. The problem with this is we only see things if Steven is there to witness it. The show introduces a fascinating world of Gems and yet the show doesnât dive into that because Steven doesnât care about and all he does is hang around Beach City. Steven will never explore unless he chooses to and some major plot points are offscreen which you should never do, especially itâs a story-driven show. An example of this is âWanted Arcââ and yes Iâm using it the third time as my example because it really is a terrible arc. When Steven comes back home, he had some information about Homeworld, discovered that thereâs a mystery about Pink Diamond shattering, Off Colours, Steven can bring back people from the dead and Lars in space. With all that, what does Steven do? Nothing. Throughout his adventure in space, he never mentions it to the Crystal Gems and instead of that being the main focus, itâs townies and Connie. While Steven is doing Beach City fluff, Lars is actually progressing the plot by him developing and escaping Homeworld with the Off Colours. I truly wonder why the Crewniverse believes that Beach City is more important than Gems?Â
They got interesting lore and I truly want them to explore it more but they had to waste all that and have the most major plot points be offscreen for Steven's perspective.Â
The second problem with Steven p.o.v is his contestant presence. The show will always be about him, no other characters get the spotlight or do anything unless heâs there. Thereâs rarely a scene that doesnât have Steven and itâs frustrating when thereâs a well-rounded cast of characters that I want to see more than him. Weâll never see them interact with other characters nor explore different parts of the world. Other shows have done it such asÂ
Amazing World of Gumball - âThe Worldâ
Adventure Time - âVarmintsâÂ
Avatar: The Last Airbender - âZuko AloneâÂ
Rick and Morty - âTales From the Citadelâ
Imagine how great it will be if explore more of the cast like Â
Uncorrupt Gem characters and Curley Lapis going by their day in Little Homeschool.Â
Lars becoming a space pirateÂ
Lapis and Peridot becoming friendsÂ
Pearl meeting up with Mystery Girl
Volleyball recovering from her trauma
Ruby and Sapphire being their own individualsÂ
They got a lovable cast of characters that I want the show to further explore and yet the Crewniverse donât do anything with them and thatâs such a missed opportunity. Â
Then the third most egregious problem with Steven p.o.v is heâs the communicator. The show tries to message that talking things will work but no one really talks to each other unless itâs Steven. Characters barely make their opinion or a chance to speak for themselves while Steven's opinion will and shall always be in the right and we barely see characters talking to one another. Examples of these areâŚ
When Steven bubbles Bismuth, Pearl and Garnet don't say a thing and just let him. They don't question why he did or lash him out for it. They just went along with it. Steven decided to unbubble her in âMade of Honor â for a wedding without talking to anyone else about it and again, they still havenât asked questions and they just went along with it.Â
In âReunitedâ, instead of Crystal Gems look at each other to find their strength like Garnet telling Pearl sheâs her own Pearl, Pearl telling Amethyst sheâs isnât an accident, and they tell Garnet that sheâs a great leader, Steven has to remind them what they are supposed to be.Â
Blue and Yellow had issues with the Gem Empire but too afraid to say to White Diamond. Until Steven arrived and thatâs when they tried talking to her.
The Diamonds become good because Steven tells them being a fascist dictator is bad and they agree. They disbanded the Gem Empire and changed their abilities to help Gems under two years.Â
Steven made Pearl talk to Amethyst.Â
The message the show tries to tell that people should communicate is completely flawed because rather than have other characters improve their lives by talking to one another, they made Steven the messiah that every character looks up to. Steven will change your mind and you have no choice in the matter.Â
Conclusion
With the end of Steven Universe, I want to say that this show couldâve been better. Steven Universe was created by Rebecca Sugar, a former storyboard artist for Adventure Time and the one who mainly writes episodes about Marceline and wrote songs for the show. When she announced that she's left AT to make her show, I was excited and had such high hopes for it. I really want this show to succeed and it couldâve been the next Adventure Time, My Little Pony Friendship is Magic or Gravity Falls but sadly it failed to do so. The show flaws outshined it the strength by it was handled unprofessionally, wasted their characters, the pacing is all over the place, no character pay for their past actions and Stevenâs point-of-view. I donât think itâs the worst show Iâve ever watched nor a masterpiece, it's just a disappointingly average show in my personal opinion. I hope Rebecca Sugar and her crew not just see this as their progressive show by representing LGBT and messaging but also see what they would have approved of on the show and how they couldâve made it better. I had a lot of good memories when I first watched the show. It had the potential to be better but it never filled the promises they made. Â
