I hate to do this again but we need help again!
The months I was out of work took a huge toll on us and while I'm back to work now, it's part time and all our money (including my dad's pension) went to debt and bills, we don't have anything else to survive until the end March.
My dad needs medication for his diabetes (and I need it for my own health issues), and we need food.
Please, if you can spare even just a few bucks to help, we'd be eternally grateful.

dp x blue exorcist
satan is actually Dan from a universe where Danny didn’t succeed in defeating him. Clockworks going through the timelines, checking for anomalies and the like and he… just… goes…oops. The Dan that was defeated and somewhat rehabilitated, Danny, and Dani are like ‘’oops’?what ‘oops’?what do you mean by ‘oops’?’ And then our favorite dumbasses and their support group get an all expenses paid trip to deal with the fuckery of satan!dans children ( that is including Rin and Yukio, cause they need all the help jazz is oh so willing to give). They’re deaged to rin and yukio’s age (except Dani she’s little)(otherwise known as adoptable age). Shiro looks at them and says is anyone going to parent these children and does not wait for an answer. Dani is trolling Mephisto and Amaimon so hard, like ‘baby brothers’ and Mephisto is just rolling with it. And Gehenna is the ghost zone where someone was able to get a last ditch wish to Desiree to lock down the ghost zone. Coal tars are blob ghosts that have been corrupted from having a corrupted king. Satan!Dans kids are the results of separating out the abilities he got from eating other ghosts, Mephisto is clockwork’s abilities, amaimon=undergrowth and so forth.
bonus if we have a bit of crossover with Constantine, who was somewhat parenting those kids, travels over to where the kids are, looks at shiro and Mephisto and says ‘I role to seduce’
Mephisto by dating the parent(s) of his (deaged)parent ‘I’m my own grandpa’
bonus bonus the male presenting dannys have a type( have both dated and/or married members of the batclan)and they here about yuri and how people describe her, look at each and wonder that they usually go for a louder and more aggressive competency than hers. Cue batkid(s) wondering where their so is, clockwork showing up asking ‘you want to know?you really want to know?’ And forgetting how much of a manipulator the Dannys said clockwork was, replied yes and so we have deaged batkid(s) running around with shura, looking for their trouble magnet plushy, ( I love dead on main, defying gravity, and dead serious. Any combination of Dan, Danny, Jason and dick are fine. Danny/Damian or Dani/Damian.) so we’d have dick(appearances are deceiving, the most unhinged bat child), Jason (if I can’t shoot it a tire iron works), and damian( if it is not sharp, what is the point?).
and I completely derailed at the end there.
#Dp#danny phantom#ao no exorcist#blue exorcist#maybe#dc#Constantine#crack treated seriously#fujimoto Shiro competing with Bruce Wayne for the most adoptions#Yukio looking at disaster siblings wondering what level of hell is this#Jazz commiserating about being the almost sane member of the family(not actually sane#but sanest)#John ‘ if I don’t need to fight it

To answer your tag- yes, fridge magnet bat blob, i make them 😊
Ok ok i could use a protective fridge batblob or two but i can't find a link to your shop. Or do i simply send you a message.
And also, does the fridge blob attach at the bottom or at the side. Part of me thinks bottom would be funnier but either way i can't work it out from the pic.

dc x dp idea where it started with the blob ghost, not the rouges or danny’s ghost rouges or the fentons.
Just the blob ghost.
Like, imagine if one of the Bats find these cute adorable little critters that seem to come in packs and mindlessly squeak and cuddle with them whenever they get close. Bats is obvisly pairnord but after a few days of Lazars Pit connections and seeing Jason visibly relax near the critters and saying how he felt calmer than ever the other batkids went crazy over them.
Damian tries to lure them home to keep them as pets and will always ‘protect them’. Jason is a blob ghost magnet and takes pleasure of just dropping in on some gang members who laugh at these seemingly harmless little blobs before he orders them to attack in glee. Dick loves to cuddle with them with Cass loving to play with them from hide-and-seek to simple peek-a-boo games. Tim just let them float around him and likes to poke them to see them giggle at times. Steph makes it her mission to get as many selfies as possible with them in weird random situations while Barbara seems to have little helpers who either nudge food at her or play around her computer set up with each other (Dick made them follow him to her place or op).
Eventually Bruce just let it happens when he saw Alfred instructing the new “part-time staff” on how to cook shepherd’s pie. (and after a little comformation from Zatanna who said they are completely harmless) Soon after there would be at least one little blob ghost underneath batman’s cape.
Then one day the whole pack of blob ghost seem to be stress and worried, trying to nudge them to a direction as they seem very destressed about something. Eventually they do follow them only to find a corpus of a black haired and blue eye child.
Everyone thought he was dead. Jason said he is still alive.

X-Men Review: Uncanny X-Men #2-4
The X-Men #2 - No One Can Hold The Vanisher Publication Date: Nov. 1963 Stan Lee - Writer Jack Kirby - Drawer Paul Reinman - Inker Sam Rosen - Letterer
The next few issues are, well, kind of generic. The Silver Age isn’t known for it’s deep character insights - but the X-Men still remain slightly lacking any personality or development. The first part of the issue is a reminder of everyone’s powers - then, much like in issue one, we get a villain who wants things and the X-Men stop him. (Ngl - most of the Silver Age has a pretty standard formula to it.)
The villain this time around is The Vanisher - who is completely a classic Kirby design - outlandish in a delightful way. It’s funny to me that the villains somewhat end up being the most entertaining part of a lot of these early issues. Anyway, The Vanisher is a lot like a pink wearing, much uglier Nightcrawler, who is using his powers of teleportation (oh sorry... vanishing...) to steal money, and demands 10 million dollars or else he’s going to steal all the US’s defense plans and... sell them? Idk - Vanisher hasn’t quite thought this all through.
It’s the X-Men to the rescue, except not really because, uh, how do you stop a guy who can just blink out of existence? You don’t, really. So Professor X steps in and decides to rewire The Vanisher’s mind, which is hilariously unethical, but I mean the saved the defense plans, right?!?
Things to Note:
During the reintroduction of the X-Men, Warren (Angel) is being bombarded by women - and Jean Grey uses her powers to make them all float away. Hilariously the girls don't seem to notice too much.
Cyclops uses his powers to stop a wall from falling on some construction works. I don't know why, maybe just the ridiculousness of the situation made it amusing to me.
Prof X gives Iceman a demerit for being overly enthusiastic.
Prof X can use his brain like a projector, and show news footage on the wall.
Prof X also can talk to non-mutants by way of ridiculous head device.
The Vanisher's scenery chewing is about on par with Magneto's. I also love that he gets the entire mob on his side.

The X-Men #3 - Beware of ... the Blob! Publication Date: Jan. 1964 Stan Lee - Writer Jack Kirby - Drawer Paul Reinman - Inker Art Simek - Letterer
This issue’s villain is THE BLOB! I give it a few points for discarding, slightly, the normal structure of : Reintroduction of the X-Men -- Bad Guy wants to take over the world -- Big Fight.
It starts out by Prof X discovering the The Blob and inviting him to become an X-man. When The Blob declines - he has to take on the X-Men to escape the mansion. And then, because logic and 60s comics don't always go together - The Blob decides come back and take on the X-Men again with all his circus freak friends because...he can? Does he really need a reason? The X-Men are once again taken out until Prof X explains to Jean Grey that she really is the most powerful one on the team and frees them and then Prof X once again erases everyone's mind. Because that's what happens when your villain is too powerful for the X-Men's power set.
The first half of this book is kind of interesting. I mean, they go out and find a new mutant and, sure, The Blob is definitely not by any means a nice or good guy, but c'mon Prof X, shouldn't you at least vet your people before sharing all of your secrets? And when The Blob says no to being an X-Man - the X-Men attack him!
It's kind of crazy when you think about it. I mean, sure, The Blob turns around and fulfills his role as bad guy, but there's an interesting conversation here about who should become and X-Man and why. Not to mention, while the Blob is still a jerk - he hasn’t done anything to the X-Men at first, and it really feels like Prof X is being the jerk for not letting him go.
Things to Note:
This comic is so deeply misogynistic - Jean Grey is not only hounded by all of the guys, when she decides to finally hang with Cyclops, Angel swoops in and carries her off - literally. Poor girl doesn't get a say in it at all. Meanwhile, Jean can't seem to take on anyone until Prof X explains that she can. God, it's frustrating to read.
Oh - and Prof X reveals he, too, is in love with Jean - which is about fifty times as creepy. No, dude - your wheelchair is not the reason it's inappropriate to be harboring romantic feelings towards a teenage girl who is your student. Stop.
Prof X doesn't need cerebro to find mutants - apparently his mind can just tell him where they are. He does, however, need an intensifier gun - because 60s.
Cyclops is beginning to be the brooding, woe-is-me Cyclops we all know and love.
Beast is also becoming Beast! - Reading calculus books with his feet and telling Angel that his colloquialisms aren't necessary. All we need now is the blue fur and ‘oh my stars and garters’. Ah, Beast welcome home.
Beast and Iceman's banter continues to be the best thing about the comic.
While searching for the new mutant - Beast sees someone standing in mid-air, oh wait, no, it's just a guy standing on completely clear glass putting a letter on the fourth story of a building. What even comic logic?!?
I realize The Blob can handle it - but one of the carnival dudes straight up shoots The Blob multiple times. Wtf dude?

The X-Men #4 - The Brotherhood of Evil Mutants Publication Date: Mar. 1964 Stan Lee - Writer Jack Kirby - Drawer Paul Reinman - Inker Art Simek - Letterer
This issue feels like the real beginning of the X-Men (or more so X-Men after being introduced in the first issue). This issue's bad guys are the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants (why brand themselves with the word Evil? Well - they are pretty aware that they are), led by MAGNETO. The issue skips the longer introduction sequences of the first few comics and dives right in. The Brotherhood, made up of Magneto, Toad, Mastermind, Scarlet Witch, and Quicksilver, want to take over a small nation as a precursor to taking over the world -- or at least wanting mutants to take control over regular humans.
Interestingly, it's the first time Prof X and Magneto's ideals really clash - Prof X wanting mutants and humans to coexist peacefully, while Magneto wants mutants to dominate. It's very black and white here - but it sets the foundation for what X-Men is built upon.
While I miss some of the banter-y aspects the first few comics had, this is probably the strongest issue so far. The addition of the philosophical differences between Prof X and Magneto, in addition to a tad more complex action sequence gives the series a slightly bit more amount of depth.
Things to Note:
Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver's introductions I find interesting - they don't want to be a part of The Brotherhood, but are being blackmailed by Magneto. It creates an interesting dynamic.
In a flashback, we see Magneto rescuing Scarlet Witch from what looks like an angry mob from the 19th century - pitchforks and all. It's a bit silly.
I have to wonder what Magneto was doing in Europe that he just happened to stumble upon the Scarlet Witch.
Also - there's no indication that Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver are Magneto's kids (it's been retconned several times - I'm not sure who the canonical parents of them are at the moment).
Magneto and Prof X meet on the astral plane - I find it interesting that there seems to be a connection between the two of them, even though it's not presented right off the bat.
Magneto can apparently sense Prof X through his magnetic field, lol.
Mastermind's illusions are very Nazi Germany-esque - something I think is a bit peculiar given Magento's later backstory.
Also - how is this illusion army interacting with people?
Cyclops's eye beams need to be recharged - do we ever see that idea again?
At the beginning, the kids are celebrating their one year anniversary at Xavier's - is that from when Jean started or in general? It's also the fastest time is ever going to go in these comics.
It's sort of the first cliffhanger - as Prof X is knocked out and the X-Men decide to take on The Brotherhood on their own!
Next Time - The thrilling conclusion of the Brotherhood two parter, the X-Men meet the Submarner, and the Blob makes a return.

Three things can happen to a tweet once you send it into the world: It can get retweeted, it can get liked, and it can get replied to. Any of these can be nice, like a little food pellet from the digital universe, proof that someone out there is paying attention. But sometimes instead of giving you food pellets, the universe is flinging pebbles at you. If the replies stack up, outpacing the retweets and the likes, you may have a problem. Your tweet may be a bad tweet.
“The lengthier the conversation” sparked by a post, “the surer it is that someone royally messed up,” Luke O’Neil wrote recently in Esquire. “It’s a phenomenon known as The Ratio.” David Roth, writing for Deadspin, compared a bad ratio to a bad baseball stat line. A tweet with 198 replies, 34 retweets and 83 likes, for example, is the Adam Dunn of tweets: .198 batting average, 34 home runs and 83 RBIs. The Huffington Post’s Ashley Feinberg put it more bluntly: “I would say any time you have more replies than favs, you fucked up in some capacity.”
Twitter has become the de facto public podium for President Trump.1 So what blend of retweets, likes and replies characterizes the response to tweets from the most powerful public figure in the United States? And how does it compare to the way people react to the tweets of his powerful governing colleagues — friendly and rival both — in the U.S. Senate?2
We can illustrate the blend of the three actions for a given tweet using a ternary plot. These plots are used to measure, for example, the mixture of clay, sand and silt in soil, or the proportions of of gold, silver and copper alloy in jewelry. Here we’ll use them to measure the social media presences of some of the most powerful people in the United States. Tweets toward the top have a higher share of retweets, those toward the bottom right have a higher share of likes, and those toward the bottom left are in the Ratio danger zone — a higher share of replies.
Trump’s 3,232 tweets since last summer map out a shape like the silhouette of a B-2 bomber, sitting in the lower right corner and zooming straight toward “likes.” A like, also called a “favorite,” is often the most common response to a tweet. It’s easy to do, it’s not as public or expressive as a retweet, and it requires less thought than a reply.
Trump’s tweets spark firestorms, to be sure, but — at least according to the Feinberg metric — few are Ratio flops. In fact, only one of the Trump tweets in our data set has more replies than it does likes. (Another is very close.) Trump’s account is a magnet for likes: He averages over 60,000 of them per tweet, plus about 16,000 retweets and 14,000 replies.
But there are exceptions. The Trump tweet that got the highest share of replies was the second of a pair of tweets taking a shot at MSNBC’s “poorly rated” show “Morning Joe” and its co-host Mika Brzezinski. (The other outlier in the reply direction came after a plan to repeal Obamacare failed in the Senate. And a tweet posted Monday morning — in which Trump addresses a conversation he had with Myeshia Johnson, the widow of Army Sargeant La David Johnson, who was killed in Niger earlier this month — also generated an unusually high proportion of replies.)
…to Mar-a-Lago 3 nights in a row around New Year's Eve, and insisted on joining me. She was bleeding badly from a face-lift. I said no!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) June 29, 2017
The Trump tweet with the highest share of retweets — the “good” ratio — concerned foreign policy. It has about 87,000 retweets with only 14,000 replies, as of this writing.
During my recent trip to the Middle East I stated that there can no longer be funding of Radical Ideology. Leaders pointed to Qatar – look!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) June 6, 2017
And the tweet that got the highest share of likes was about the goodwill of a former Republican presidential candidate. (Six-figure likes and only 6,000 replies.)
Mitt Romney called to congratulate me on the win. Very nice!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) November 13, 2016
Of these 3,232 Trump tweets, 916, or about 28 percent, have more replies than retweets.
But Trump isn’t the first president to tweet. @BarackObama has 96 million followers and has tweeted over 15,000 times.3 Here’s what it looks like when we compare the ratios of our current and former First Tweeters:
Obama’s Twitter oeuvre is shifted up and stretched out — generally in the direction of the retweet quadrant. According to one meta-analysis of 100 academic research papers about Twitter, retweeting tends to indicate “a level of endorsement of the message and/or the originator.” Obama’s average stat line: 4,500 retweets, about 14,000 likes and 522 replies. So while Trump has few tweets that run afoul of The Ratio and his tweets get far more engagement, on average, than Obama’s do, the balance of Trump’s stat line is worse. Obama gets about eight retweets and 26 likes for every reply; Trump gets about one retweet and five likes for every reply.
Trump is currently the most visible user of the microblogging service, the nation’s tweeter-in-chief, but every senator tweets, too. We mapped each senator’s tweets on the same type of chart as above.4
The tweets appear to form a shapeless mass in the “likes” corner, with two tentacles reaching out toward retweets and replies. Certain individual senators echo this broad pattern, while others buck the trend.
Ted Cruz, Republican of Texas, and Kamala Harris, Democrat of California, for example, have distributions that resemble the average: heavy with likes, with a few tweets reaching toward replies. Some, such as Massachusetts Democrat Elizabeth Warren, appear heavier in the retweet sector. But others demonstrate worse ratios. The tweet distribution of South Carolina Republican Lindsey Graham, for example, is nearly inverted — the blob is focused on the reply/retweet axis. And fellow Republican Bill Cassidy of Louisiana has a distribution that’s nearly uniform across the triangle, not necessarily favoring any specific action.
Here’s what the response ratio looks like on the average tweet for all 100 senators:
The three senators furthest out toward replies corner are Pat Toomey, Republican of Pennsylvania; Mitch McConnell, Republican of Kentucky; and Cory Gardner, Republican of Colorado. Toomey and McConnell are tied for first in the race to take home the dubious prize of Most Replied To: 44 percent of the actions taken in response to their tweets are replies.5 (By way of comparison, about 12 percent of the reactions to Trump’s tweets are replies.) The two big retweet winners are Utah Republican Mike Lee and Oklahoma Republican James Inhofe. And while these outliers are all members of the GOP, they are still part of a larger trend: Twitter’s gravity generally appears to pull the Republicans toward the replies corner, while the Democrats are more firmly clustered along the retweet-like axis.
Not everyone on Twitter buys the concept of The Ratio as a gauge for very bad tweets.
Ratio is a lefty Twitter concept that I don't buy into. But feel free to do so!
— Chris Cillizza (@CillizzaCNN) September 22, 2017
But, as another Twitter user pointed out, “denying the ratio just makes the ratio angry.”
The takeaway of all of this, of course: Never tweet.

Days 68 to 74
Just to orient ourselves, Day 68 was Monday, 3 July! (And I am posting this on Sunday, 9 July.)
It started with me taking the car in for its 70,000Km service and walking back the 200 metres to the van for breakfast. We did a load of washing in preparation for moving on again on Tuesday (at last – starting to get a little stir-crazy after 9 days propped in Katherine with not a lot of things to do apart from working around the van). I went birding and photographing along the river in the afternoon and the first thing I saw was a small red-bellied black snake crossing the path a metre ahead of me. I took a pic of it, but it was hiding its head in the grass so it just looks like a shiny black rope. We saw a somewhat larger one on Thursday when we were driving so I tossed out the anchor, but it (the snake, not the anchor) also seemed more anxious to slither away than getting its photo taken.
We had had a looooong phone call with Deanne on Sunday, mainly chatting about our overseas travel plans for 2018 – 3 weeks around Ireland in a campervan, a 10-day eco-cruise in the Scottish Isles, 3 weeks campervanning in Scotland, by train to London and on to Istanbul (retracing the Orient Express), then some time in Turkey, a little driving, but mainly training to Beijing (with some stopovers), a mini-tour of China and home again – but everything after Scotland is still subject to negotiation. Deanne and Rob may be in Asia about the same time as us and we hope to cross paths if that happens. It got us quite excited!
It is now almost a week later and I haven’t written anything in all that time – just too busy relaxing I think. It is not always easy finding a block of time to update my blog and it is too hard to do it a couple of sentences at a time.
We are now in Kununurra – and that means that in the last 3 months, we have caravanned in all Australian States and the Northern Territory. That is certainly a first for us. Even when travelling for work, I probably never visited all the States in 3 months and only ever went to the NT on business once or maybe twice. It wasn’t on my Bucket List, but I am happy to tick it nonetheless.
The week has zipped past. Tuesday, we hit the road again and it was a great feeling. Everything seemed brighter and sharper away from Katherine’s ‘Big Smoke’ – the senses seemed more acute and the colours were brighter and the sounds clearer. Love this country! It was the hottest day we have had since leaving home (mid-30s, and the sun burns fiercely when directly overhead so far north) and they have all seemed much the same since then.
We were hassled out of the caravan park in the morning. They had someone parked at the gate early in the morning waiting for our site and the manager sat on his motor-bike almost beside our van to geeing us along while we were packing up. Even though we were off the site by about 10:10am (normal checkout is 10am but many parks won’t let new bookings in until after 2pm), it was a little confronting to have him sitting there for half an hour hurrying us up.
At last, Katherine was behind us and we were on our way to Timber Creek, stopping at the Victoria River Roadhouse at lunchtime. We drove down to the river and walked around the rocks, but it was very hot so we didn’t linger long. Interestingly, we got quite a good view of a grey falcon when driving down to the river and on the way back, it perched and posed beautifully for us in a tree close to the side of the road for us – Sean Dooley, eat your heart out! (For those who don’t know, Sean is a well-known birder, but he has never seen a grey falcon – so frequently asserts that there is no such bird. This was our 7th confirmed sighting, 6 of them really good views!!)
We started a walk at Joe Creek in the Judbarra National Park and saw some spectacular rocky cliffs, but it was simply too hot to do the uphill stretch so we retraced our steps back to the car. Strangely, it seemed at least twice as far back to the car as when heading out – maybe we were dehydrated or something, but it was hard work – but worth it for the spectacle.
An interesting aspect of the day’s drive was the absence of ‘dressed’ anthills. We have seen three varieties of anthills in our travels: more-or-less conical ones, often no more than a metre high (but some are quite high); the ‘magnetic’ ones that align north-south to control the heat in parts of the nest; and some larger dome-shaped blobs, as if a kid had thrown them together by chucking handfuls of mud at them, all lumpy and unsymmetrical. The main ones, and there must be many millions of them, are the first type and all the way up the Stuart Highway and east into Queensland, there are thousands that have been dressed up in shirts, hats, bras, coats, you name it. Some even have pants draped across them (difficult to get the legs in as you may have guessed). Every conceivable outfit and variation seems to be represented – hi-vis vests, hard-hats, crash helmets, uniforms of all sorts, fatigues, bikinis, with sashes, pipes, broom handles for arms, it goes on – and on and on – thousands of them in all states of disrepair. But I saw only one dressed anthill (with just a bra and panties so maybe she was almost undressed) all the way from Katherine to Kununurra.
We arrived at the Timber Creek Caravan Park, just in time to see the croc-feeding they do three times a week. Boooooring…… they dangled some scraps of meat in front of a couple of small freshwater crocs that seemed to have little interest in it, but one had a bit of a go just to keep the crowd happy. What was more interesting was the kite feeding. They tossed small pieces of meat up and the black kites and whistlers dived and lunged to catch them on the wing – before they hit the ground where a hungry dog was enthusiastically lapping up the leftovers. The kids got into the act and enjoyed it and I got a few pics – and gave a little lesson to some of them about how to recognise the various kites. A really interesting thing happened as everyone was heading back to their vans. A barking owl appeared from nowhere and attacked two kites that were perched where it wanted to sit. It won – easily – and then sat and posed for me to take several photos. Remember what I said about how hard it is to see and identify nocturnal birds – that was our third in about a week!
The caravan park was inhabited a large colony of bats with their distinctive odour (and their incessant rowdy bickering) permeating the air throughout the day – but mercifully not at night when they all took off to feed in someone else’s backyard. At night, it was the road-trains that parked immediately outside the park with their motors and freezer units blaring away all night. Most inconsiderate for the tourists trying to get some sleep after a tiring day reading and knitting and chatting and maybe fishing……! We are in a somewhat similar situation at Kununurra, surrounded by screaming bats all day, but fortunately no trucks at night.
We booked a cruise on the Victoria River (NT’s largest and even in the Dry, it is huge). We explored the area during the heat of the day, including a drive to a few river access points and up along the escarpment to some great scenic lookouts and one over the town. Then we boarded an old bus to take us out to where the boat was waiting. We cruised 70km downstream, checking out the crocs and their hundreds of wallabies prey – and some birds – and had a finger-food dinner on a pontoon in the middle of the river before returning just after dark. It was a good cruise and wonderfully cool on the water, but I felt the cruise-captain could have taken a little more time creeping up on some of the wildlife instead of roaring in on it and scaring them away before we got close enough for really good photos. On return to camp, we were still a little peckish to bought some greasies from the pub before watching another DVD.
The next day, we set ourselves a challenge and we are so glad we did. We have numerous 4WD and adventure travelling DVDs with us and we watched one about the Binns Track that runs for over 1000 km over some pretty extreme terrain. We weren’t about to do that, but we did the first 150km of it, including our own bit of extreme terrain. We drove out and down the Bullita Access Track and had lunch at the old Bullita Homestead – a quaint and very interesting old place, amazingly small for what was a working station for over a hundred years, nestled on a beautiful river with a mammoth boab outside. We saw hundreds of boabs that day, from mere saplings to 3000-year-old monsters. The trunks come in an amazing variety of shapes: round, square, bifurcated, trifurcated, quadfurcated, conical, inverted conical, smooth, gnarled, branched, symmetrical and asymmetrical – a most unusual tree and the older ones are quite awe-inspiring. I just love them. They call them the upside-down tree because when they have no leaves (now – in the Dry), their branches look like roots running in all directions and at all angles.
We also called in to Limestone Gorge. It is a limestone gorge (yes, really) that is quite a few kilometres long and the end is accessed by driving down a ‘track’ that is simply large rough river boulders. It is a very dramatic gorge, mainly in blacks and greys with a bit of yellowish-cream in recently broken and unweathered places, but we just took some pics and headed back to the real objective of the day – the Tuwakam Track. It is only 20km long and joins the Bullita road with the Buchanan ‘Highway’, but the guide says to allow 3 hours in good conditions – strictly high clearance 4WDs only. It was a lot of fun and we really only took a bit over 2 hours. Some parts were reasonably good going – I got up to about 20 kph a couple of times – but a lot of it was ungraded rock and I was frequently walking the car over boulders twice the size of watermelons for 100 metres at a time. We crossed a few creeks and creek-beds and some of the entry and exit angles were daunting. Several times, I thought the car would simply not climb such steep exits, but in 4WD low and with a heavy foot, it just ploughed ahead wherever I pointed it. It truly is an amazing vehicle. We saw a few wild donkeys and a snake along the track, but at the time, my focus was more on the track than the wildlife. We met up with a young couple with two little kids doing the Track too – she is a travel writer and writes about travelling in extreme places with kids. We chatted with them for quite a while when we reached the Buchanan – and they headed back to Timber Creek, but we still wanted to go further to Jasper Gorge. That was about 30km further south on the Buchanan and it was VERY different from the Limestone Gorge of the morning. Similar structure with huge rocks and dramatic cliffs, but all in darker, richer reds, maroons and oranges. We walked around exploring for a while, but we had 150km or so, mainly on rough roads, to get back in time for dinner so we set off into the dusk. There was another couple setting up to camp overnight at the Gorge and we thought they would enjoy a nice quiet night on their own under the stars – but we saw quite a lot of cars, including a few hoons, heading down to join them as we headed north again. It was a great day, a real adventure for us, certainly more extreme than anything we have attempted before and we came through without a scratch. The round trip was exactly 300km, well over 200 on dirt roads and despite the Tuwakam Track only being 20km, it was a standout adventure for both of us. Certainly a confidence booster for next time, whatever, wherever and whenever that may be.
Next day, we moved on west again and had planned to stay in the Keep River National Park, touted as a good birdwatching place. We stopped at the Ranger station, ate our lunch and looked at the display there, and I cruised the lagoon at the back, photographing birds and water-lilies – it was quite lovely, but very hot. I also noticed that our caravan was leaking – one of our water tanks was dribbling water. We will have to get it fixed, but it looks like a cracked hose in a very difficult place to reach so I think I will get someone else to do the hard part. One tyre has scrubbed out very badly and we have a couple of other small things to get fixed so hopefully, we can find someone with time to do these things while we are in Kununurra.
We drove through the rest of the National Park looking for a place to camp, but unfortunately, both camp-grounds were fully occupied. The Park was a bit disappointing, not at all what we expected (in our ignorance), hot and dusty with long walks to get to any of the places we wanted to see so with a leaky water tank, we deemed it better to head across the border and stay at Kununurra instead.
We arrived here late afternoon on Friday only to find our first-choice van park full. So was our second choice so we let our fingers do the walking and we eventually managed to get the last site available in a Big Four Discovery Park. Big 4s are my least favourite parks – over $50 a night, jam-packed against everyone else and with more draconian regimentation than anywhere else. They are usually manicured to within an inch of destruction - so don’t dare walk on the grass or do anything much else. As luck would have it, this one doesn’t seem so bad and it certainly hasn’t seen a manicurist for some time. The design is less than optimal, but we are on a good site, a little separated from our neighbours – even if it was almost impossible to reverse into the allocated space. We are not much more than 50 metres from the lake and the facilities are close-by too so we don’t have much to complain about. We have booked some great adventures for during the week so managed to extend our stay until Friday – I just hope we can get our maintenance jobs done before then, because we are heading for the Gibb River Road after that – one of the most iconic trips in outback Aussie travelling folklore.
Yesterday (Saturday) we needed some down-time so we took it very easy, hiding out under the air conditioner for most of the day. We did a couple of small maintenance jobs and a bit of cleaning – and the ‘weekly shopping’ at Coles in the late arvo, but not much else. I did a big review of our birding log – currently 230 for the trip and 41 newies for us – and caught up with several days’ email from when we had no service at all.
Today, we have done the washing and updated our blogs a bit, but very soon, we have to get up to Reception because we are going on a Sunset cruise on Lake Kununurra – with a BBQ dinner at dusk. Incidentally, keeping up with time is a bit difficult. We crossed the border and picked up 90 minutes, but going from the extreme west of one time zone to the extreme east of another means that the difference in ‘solar time’ is more like 3 hours – we are awake by about 5.30, but it is dark again by just after 5 in the afternoon – seems very weird, especially with such short twilights in these latitudes.
I will post this now before our cruise and add some relevant pics in the next day or two.

Mythika’s creatures from Polynesian and Australian myths.
**THE CREATURES FROM POLYNESIAN MYTHS**

Kurita are created by the Sinlord of Sloth so they can work fast for her, but most of them escaped and just spend their time eating or rolling around in the Abyss, torturing lesser demons.
