Hi! I just read your recent Hamlet fic and noticed your note about the mob Hamlet ask disappearing. Me again! I still care and am here if you wanna share (: hopefully tumblr doesn’t eat it this time!
finally.... someone has stumbled into my lure.......
essentially mob!hamlet is the hamlet id direct if i ever - god knows how or why - got a chance to direct hamlet. it stemmed from the fact that i'd been in a gritty performance of romeo & juliet and thought shakespeare and violence really go hand in hand, if done well. (i think it's important to state that i am in no way shape or form a director, nor do i intend to be as a career. i am an actor and, more importantly, a nerd, and i think a lot of thoughts about hamlet.)
anyways i figured it's easy to keep everything the same while transposing the characters into a world of organised crime and you know what? i was right. picture like.. the godfather type visuals but it's hamlet.
the fact that i don't see a world in which i'm able to actually stage this production means i've created a whole au in my head with character designs and very fixed motivations, but at its heart it's a performance i'd want to stage.
uh. from this point onwards im gonna ramble about the specifics of how i'd direct a few bits cause i've just. i've been stewing with this for so long now.
my main concerns were the ghost and polonius' death scene, because the whole concept mainly came to me through an idea of how i'd like to see the deaths in 5.2 done.
it took me an embarrassingly long time to come up with a solution i liked to kill polonius which consists of making an audience uncomfortable. my idea would be to have all the spying take place from the audience, with the characters being spied on acting their hearts out on stage, which means that i can have polonius be in the audience when hamlet shoots him (not a fan of guns but boy oh boy is a long range weapon cool to use). the aim is to make the audience feel on edge, like they, too, have been spying on hamlet's private life.
maybe i just think immersive theatre is really cool. but i think i could pull it off, with some well-timed flashes of house lights.
as for the ghost i..... uh am still struggling. this is why directors work with designers instead of just being some nerdy guy who's read hamlet one too many times for it to be sanity. but i saw a production in cambridge that i though excelled in some ways (and fell horribly flat in others - why did they do 3.4 like that???) and one of the elements i liked was the fact that the ghost was an almost inhuman creature, but still clearly a regal figure. almost mothlike in the way he was wrapped in his cloak, ambling ominously across the grass with what i can only describe as arm stilts and some basic plate armour. i so far all i've got is that i thought that was cool, though :/
my idea for the hamlet, laertes, and claudius' deaths are pretty set in stone in my mind, though. hamlet and laertes can have a little fight (who doesn't love stage fighting?) but with knives, not swords cause uh. we don't really use swords anymore and i fear there'd be too many similarities to rsc's hamlet 2009 if i did fencing. also i think knife fights are cool. anyways, they do their whole mutual poisoning thing, and hamlet makes his way over to claudius.
there are a couple accepted ways to kill claudius (that i've seen); my proposal is All Of Them. hamlet threatens claudius with the poisoned knife to make him drink the poison, and claudius goes to drink it. before he can, though, hamlet runs him through with his blade because he needs to be the one to kill him. i don't think he'd let claudius get away with doing it himself, even if he was forced.
also horatio absolutely tried to drink that poison and hamlet absolutely guzzled it down before he could. cause of homosexuality.
as in sure you can tell, the deaths are a large concern, staging-wise. also, they're the only thing that's remotely interesting for me to talk about because no one wants to hear which side of the stage i think rosencrantz and guildenstern enter from or whatever lol

ꨄ summary: you're hosting movie night at your apartment and for the first time, everyone shows up. the movie that was picked wasn't exactly spencers type of movie, luckily everyones distracted so he can do something that interest him more.
you and spencer were lying on the couch, your back pressed against his front with a blanket draped over you, when his hand lands on your thigh. you thought nothing of it and continued to watch the movie until he started to move his hand up higher, you placed your hand over his to stop it from moving and turn your head to look at him. he gave you an innocent look before he went back to watching the movie, you let out a small breath and turned back around and settled back down comfortably.
everything had been going fine... for about five minutes. spencer had started to get handsy again, he tucked his head in the crook of your neck and pushed his hand between your thighs to cup your cunt.

This was interesting, because I had to go with my gut feeling in the moment, but I reckon the contents of this list could easily change at any given time depending on my mood.
1) Revival
Summary: Loki and Mobius take what amounts to a vacation, whilst Loki recovers from his harrowing experience of babysitting the multiverse.
This began as a single-chapter ficlet to fill an ask game prompt. Later, I decided to revisit this version of Loki and Mobius to fill a bingo prompt in ch 2, then a random computer-generated prompt I had in my ideas doc for a 3rd and final chapter. Apart from a little Loki-whump in ch 2, it’s generally a sweet, soft and cozy pre-romance, and very cathartic to write.
2) Within
Summary: Loki and Mobius are marooned on a volcanic nightmare of a world, their survival depending solely on Loki's tenacity.
Part of my ‘Patience-verse’ series, this fic contains some of my favourite tropes, such as ‘trapped together in danger’, ‘magical drain/depletion’ and ‘the power of love’. Also a little twist of UST/URT — gummy bear feeding, my beloved! 😆
3) Sleepless
Summary: Mobius and Loki get stuck in a broken elevator for hours, and as a result Mobius discovers what's been bothering the object of his (as yet unspoken) affection.
Also a part of ‘Patience-verse’, and it’s such a trope-y scenario, you’ve gotta love it. I mean, that was the whole point of the original fic that spawned this series, after all. Basically, my reason for choosing this is not just because I’m absolutely feral for exhausted!Loki and sleepy cuddles, but also because I can’t believe I was able to write 3k+ words about Lokius in a lift. 🤷♀️
4) Apokruptein
Summary: A curiosity on an unknown world hurtles Loki and Mobius into peril.
A double bingo prompt-fill for ‘Forest’ and ‘Cursed object/artefact’. This 4-chapter fic is not really my best writing, but it’s the only time so far I’ve gone all-out with a full on adventure style fic, with a little worldbuilding/backstory, a lot of whump, and the lovely trope ‘temporary amnesia’ to boot. I worked really hard on the conception of this one, and I’m pretty proud of it.
5) I’ve lumped together two ficlets for my #5 spot, because they’re both similar in that they are absolutely NOT anything near what I would usually write.
a) Sit Tempus
Summary: Furnishing their new apartment, the last thing on Loki and Mobius’ list is a decent couch.
An idea that popped into my head during a boring drive home… and I wrote, edited and posted the whole thing in one night. 😏 My only ‘established relationship’ fic to date (watch this space.. 👀), although nothing remotely spicy, I should add. Just pure cute fluff, and a very vague S2 fix-it.
b) Unexpectedly You
Summary: A kindness from Loki for a mutual friend causes Mobius to have a ‘Moment’.
Terrible summary, but it’s another little ask game prompt fill, so nothing much happens in it at all. A lot of people seemed to like this one, which kinda made me like it more too. 🤣 It’s simply Loki being a sweetheart, and Mobius being proud of him. 🥹
I also wanted to add two honourable mentions for Reach (Loki/Star Wars crossover) and Reset (Loki/Red Dwarf crossover). I never in a million years thought I’d be capable of writing ONE passable crossover fic, let alone two… so the fact I managed it makes me super proud, even if they’re ludicrously niche.

Episode 15 TMP Quick Thoughts
Housekeeping and Prologue
Hello, this is Douglysium and you might not know me as that guy who wrote over 100 pages of analysis on the Eye (which can be read on Tumblr here (https://douglysium.tumblr.com/post/735599414228484097/the-relationships-between-the-dread-powers-the) or Google Docs here (The Relationships Between the Dread Powers: The Eye- Knowledge is Fear and Ignorance is Bliss)) or as that guy who wrote an article on the Extinction (which can be read on Tumblr here(https://douglysium.tumblr.com/post/717929126195003392/what-would-avatars-of-the-extinction-be-like-a) and Google Docs here(What would Avatars of the Extinction be like?: A TMA Speculation)). Suffice to say I might be a bit of a TMA fan. Also, spoilers for TMP up until episode 10. You can read my ramblings on the last episode here (Episode 14 TMP Quick Thoughts).
However, Protocol offers a very unique opportunity and experience for me because I didn’t actually get into TMA until after it was over and I binged all of it. So this is my first time experiencing something even remotely similar to what the original TMA fans probably experienced when waiting for each episode week by week and slowly having to put everything together with the limited information they had. So I decided to throw my hat into the ring since this might be my only chance to do something similar. However, I’m working on some longer form TMA content so I can’t spend as much time on these articles giving a bunch of super detailed thoughts. I will try to keep these short and that inevitably might mean some could have questions about why I think or predict certain things and in those cases I would probably recommend you read at least some of the two articles I mentioned above to get a better idea of where I’m coming from. This also means I won’t be giving you a play-by-play of every single thing that happens in the episode so I encourage you to listen to or read them yourselves and feel free to comment if you feel something is important.
These reviews are probably going to end up focusing mostly on the Entities and their manifestations as they are what I have thought about the most and spent the most time interpreting and there’s been a lot of… interesting theories floating around about how the Entities are manifesting that I want to go over.
Finally, I’m just going to say it right now, spoiler warning for all of The Magnus Archives. I know that Jon and co said one could start with Protocol and be fine, and while that’s probably true, media like this tends to be made in conversation with or take into consideration what came before it in the irl chronology in order to connect them. While I’m sure you could skip The Magnus Archives, I don't really see the point of skipping over it when we are already getting characters from TMA showing up in TMP in Protocol. So to me it’s pretty clear that if we want to understand the full picture of TMP and all the things it is trying to say then we can’t just try to pretend TMA doesn’t exist or scrub it away. Just because you could understand what’s happening without the context in broad strokes doesn’t mean you're getting all the nuances.
These articles are meant to be quick and short so sorry if there’s typos and if I don’t address every possible question or possibility. I don’t want to repeat myself too much in this series outside of the prologue so be sure to skim some of my other articles.
Episode 15 “Well Run”
So the transcripts have an error. While the document title matches the name of the episode on the youtube channel, etc. the transcripts themselves say Episode 15 “Good Show.”
Weird, but probably just an error. Either this was the episode's original name, and it was changed, or some other episode was originally in the slot for the 15th entry (stuff can move around a lot in development). Anyway let’s dive in.
We start the episode from the perspective of a CCTV in the breakroom at night. Sam asks Celia on a second date by showing off some theater tickets he bought for “The Pillowman.” Celia laughs, much to Sam’s confusion, and sarcastically says it’s a “very romantic choice.” Sam says he doesn’t know a lot about the story but Celia does decide to go anyway “If only to see your face.” I haven’t seen Pillowman but according to the Wikipedia summary “It tells the tale of Katurian, a fiction writer living in a police state, who is interrogated about the gruesome content of his short stories and their similarities to a number of bizarre child murders occurring in his town.” So Celia’s reaction is understandable and it goes to show that Sam should have asked around a bit more. It’ll be an odd date for sure, but I’m very curious to see their reactions considering that Sam and Celia’s job right now is literally to sit around listening to scary stories. Although, they know Pillowman isn’t real so it might not be that big of a deal.
Alice enters the room, seemingly to Sam’s dismay or exasperation considering the sighing, and offers them a chance to come to the performance of her younger brother’s band. Sam wonders if it’s Dredgerman but Alice corrects him by saying “Don’t be daft, they’re taking a break before their tour! No, it’s “Penny for the Well” actually” and Sam wonders how many bands Luke is in (so Luke is part of multiple bands at the same time). Sam asking about Dredgerman is actually a bit of foreshadowing for the person Alice encounters later. The person in question keeps speaking of the deep water and drowning, similar to some of the stuff Gordon was saying in a previous episode, and a dredger is “a barge or other vessel designed for dredging harbors or other bodies of water”, to dredge is to “clean out the bed of (a harbor, river, or other area of water) by scooping out mud, weeds, and rubbish with a dredge.” / “an apparatus for bringing up objects or mud from a river or seabed by scooping or dragging.” and a dredgeman (no R here) is “one who is in charge of the operation of a dredge used to mine metal-bearing sands from the bottom of a body of water.” So there’s a lot of specific water imagery going on here. “Penny for the Well” also arguably ties into this theme since a well is “a shaft sunk into the ground to obtain water, oil, or gas.” Pennies are often thrown into wells and fountains for the sake of wishes and stuff but there are also stories of people falling into wells. So you could argue there’s still a theme of drowning or deep water being laid here too.
Alice says “Let’s just say that this revolutionary indie ensemble, which may or may not also include my incredibly talented younger brother, is playing The Gladstone Arms at ten thirty tomorrow evening and you are both on the guest list. You’re welcome.” but Celia says she has to go take care of Jack (the babysitter can’t stay late enough for her to go to the performance) and the revelation that Celia has a human baby seems to catch Alice off guard. Considering Alice’s reaction to Celia last episode, it’s interesting that she invited both Alice and Sam to the event and doesn’t seem to say Sam shouldn’t go on his date with Celia (just that they can swing by afterwards). It’s possible she wants to keep an eye on them or doesn’t want to piss off Sam but it’s interesting that Alice is actually taken aback by Celia’s baby. Maybe Alice herself isn’t really a baby person. It’s possible she’s just surprised Sam is dating someone with a baby or she just genuinely didn’t realize and is surprised / awkward. Sam comments “(standing) And you say I’m clueless.”
In case you’re wondering what a gladstone is: “a suitcase with flexible sides on a rigid frame that opens flat into two equal compartments. called also gladstone bag.” Gladstone also seems to be a person: “William Ewart Gladstone FRS FSS (/ˈɡlædstən/ GLAD-stən; 29 December 1809 – 19 May 1898) was a British statesman and Liberal politician. In a career lasting over 60 years, he served for 12 years as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, spread over four non-consecutive terms (the most of any British prime minister) beginning in 1868 and ending in 1894. He also served as Chancellor of the Exchequer four times, for over 12 years.” I also saw some, potentially questionable, sources saying that a gladstone can refer to a Prime Minister who’s served four years but maybe take that with a grain of salt coming from me. Since Protocol does seem to have a big emphasis on the government it wouldn’t surprise me if using the name of a politician is somehow going to end up being some sort of reference or foreshadowing for later.
At this point we are privy to 3 of the bands Luke has played for: Bullets for Saint Sebastian, Penny for the Well, and Dredgerman
We move to the statement of the episode. It’s in the form of a voicemail being delivered by someone to “The Sentinel tip-off hotline.” The bot on the other end says:
“If you are calling with information that you believe merits investigation for the public interest, please leave a message with as much detail as possible along with your name and number.
If you wish to remain anonymous, please instead leave a three word code at the start of your message that we can use to identify future calls or correspondence from you.
This voicemail is monitored by dedicated staff that are obliged to report serious crimes to local law enforcement if there is risk of imminent harm to anyone. Please speak after the tone. To end the recording, simply hang up. ”
The person giving the statement of this case is referred to as the “Caterer” in the transcripts and they are clearly in a rush since they say they can’t go to the police and start telling the story without leaving in sort of three word code or identity for future calls. The Caterer even says that they don’t know how much time they have left.
They begin to explain that they work as a caterer at a business they own. They tend to handle really high-end private functions: “We get called in for the really high-end stuff. The kind of event where the guest list is so rich that you’ve never even heard of them. There’s a big difference between “extravagance” and “elegance.” We sell the latter.” However, the Caterer’s company isn’t very big. In fact, it only has 6 permanent staff if you include the Caterer themselves (so there were 5 other permanent staff the Caterer worked with). Of course, the company did “...hire in fixed-term waiting staff and other contractors but even so…” But it becomes clear that something bad happened to the other permanent employees. For the sake of clarity, a caterer is “a person or company providing food and drink at a social event or other gathering.”
The Caterer’s company “...got the call a couple of months ago for a fairly small event at Wychwood Hall in the Cotswold’s. Apparently, they had a family shoot and wanted us to prepare the game. Normally that would be pheasant or partridge and we’d just swap it for stuff we prepared off-site since no one could ever tell the difference, but they were really explicit about it being larger game and wanting to know who’s kill they were eating. That meant a lot more prep time and equipment but they insisted and at this level you don’t get to tell the client no, just how much extra it will cost.” So immediately, we have some themes reminiscent of an Entity like The Hunt but it’s still pretty early on in the statement and Entities can overlap all the time so let’s keep reading.
The company “...set up the cooking gazebo during the early afternoon in the rear gardens on the butler’s instruction. The house itself was a massive sprawling Elizabethan thing with pristine flowerbeds and prim lawns that ran right up to the surrounding woodland. It wasn’t usual to be given center stage like that but I figured the client fancied themself a foodie and wanted to see the prep. Thankfully we brought the flashy gear, just in case. Normally you’d expect the shoot to have already been well underway by the time we arrived but people were only just arriving in their tinted Range Rovers and Rolls.” The Caterer notes that normally, the shoot / hunt would already be happening but by the time the Caterer’s crew arrived everyone else was just arriving. It would make sense that normally the shoot would already be taking place since the Caterer is just supposed to cook whatever is caught and it doesn’t make a lot of sense to have them just waiting around while you try to kill the game animal. However, this is actually foreshadowing since we later learn that the Caterer and their crew are what’s supposed to be hunted. The Caterer even mentions “Another hour passed with a couple more cars trickling in, but still no one had set out. Instead, I could see them through the leaded windows, just watching us work ” So the people are watching their prey (the caterers).
Eventually, the Caterer had the house staff fetch the butler to let him know “that unless he knew something I didn’t there was going to be a distinct lack of venison for tonight’s venison medallions. He just gave me this look, told me to “prepare” and then headed back inside. Obviously that pissed me right off but what can you do? They’d paid for the day so we just hunkered down and looked busy.” It’s possible that what the butler is saying has a double meaning. They shouldn’t just be preparing food but the caterers themselves should prepare to fight each other and be hunted. This is alluded to later when “the matriarch” asks the Caterer if they are prepared.
Speaking of which, the sun begins to set and all the hunters and dogs begin to come out of their vehicles. In front of them is someone the Caterer describes as a “matriarch.” “I don’t know how else to describe her. This big, imposing, like some Roman statue brought to life and given a gun. I kept thinking of my army days cooking for the top brass. She had the same eyes, like they didn’t see people any more just “assets” and “resistance.” And if that wasn’t enough, she had this huge custom rifle over her shoulder, like an antique elephant gun or something. There was no way it was UK legal, the thing looked like it could take out a jeep, never mind a stag! And it wasn’t gilded or anything, it was dull and plain looking despite its massive size and you just knew that this was a gun for killing with, not showing off.” I think it’s interesting that the Caterer has some sort of military background. There’s an obvious commentary about the military complex but often when the Entities show up they do so to specific people or at specific times that are advantageous. This is to say that the Entities often have thematic reasons for why or who they are manifesting around at a specific time and I don’t think the fact that a person with military trauma was picked is purely coincidental.
The Caterer says that the matriarch reeked with power and “...when she spoke they all listened. She had the guns all line up facing us with their dogs at heel and then they all just stood there watching the sun set as their staff and security all headed back into the house leaving us alone with them. That was when I knew something was really wrong. The woman stepped forward with her dogs by her side and faced me with this bright and wide smile splitting her face under her electric blue eyes and gunmetal-grey hair. Then she just locked eyes with me and began to carefully load the rifle without looking, punctuating each word with another cartridge. “Are you prepared?” she asked quietly.” This calls back to what I was just saying about the butler. I think what the butler was saying had a double meaning or was vague enough to be misinterpreted as referring purely to the food being prepared.
The Caterer answers with ““As we can be” I replied. “but-“” and then the woman silences them by raising a hand to their mouth. “it was as though she had slapped a gag in my mouth. I couldn’t even think of disobeying her, the words just died in my throat.” She returns to her group of hunters with her dogs flanking her and they are unable to make out the faces of any of the other people due to the dazzling light of the sunset. Then she stood tall and proud and said with just the tiniest hint of anticipation: “Let’s begin then shall we?” As one, the hunters raised their rifles as one and levelled them at us as we stood transfixed under our gazebo. Theres a very specific feeling you get when you’re staring down a barrel at close range. First the world gets very sharp and bright, then the horizon sort of shrinks around you till it’s no wider than the dark hole aiming straight at you. It had been a long time since I’d felt like that, but it was still so familiar. Too familiar. The woman hadn’t raised her own weapon, instead she called as though directing a firing squad: “Hunt.”” The caterers don’t immediately understand what’s happening so the simply sit in still silence until the Caterer realizes that the matriarch is talking to them and not her hunters. “After seconds that felt like hours the woman seemed to grow impatient. Finally, she sighed and repeated: “Hunt” before shouldering her rifle, sighting and then pulling the trigger without hesitation.”
One of the other caterers, Steven, falls to the ground dead (having been shot). “Without lowering the rifle, she chambered another round and re-sighted, this time at me. She smiled greedily then pumped her eyebrows just once, playfully. “Hunt!”” This time the Caterer understands what she wants: “Without taking my eyes from her I reached out and gently closed my hand around the handle of the clever in front of me. It shone, pristine and unblemished, ready for its bloody work. Then slowly, so slowly, I raised it overhead, bracing myself for what followed. The woman grinned widely, her finger caressing the trigger, then I brought my hand down sharply, smashing the cleaver into the face of Marcus, our Saucier. He couldn’t even cry out as it cleft deep into the base of his neck, his arterial blood gushing out and down into the overly-hot pot, releasing a plume of acrid iron smelling steam.” The other caterers run as the Caterer pulls the knife from Marcus and turns to them.
“The party ate well that night. All told, it didn't take long, maybe a half hour at most? None of them got far. I caught Debra as she tried to hide up in a tree. Fair play to her, almost made it up there despite being in her fifties. Mira tripped over a rabbit hole in the darkness, I think she tried to beg, but I couldn’t make out the words. The only one who gave me any real trouble was Boris. He was a big guy, nearly six five, and that’s a hell of a size difference, even with my training. But it wasn’t enough. I had killed before, and he hadn’t. He hesitated, and that was that.” As the Caterer packs up the woman shakes their hand and compliments them “Then the butler handed me a thick brown envelope. It was full of cash and a note written in elegant cursive with just one word: “Run”.” They ran and say that they cannot stay anywhere for long, they can’t stop moving. “I keep hearing dogs barking and I don't know if it's just some pet or… I thought about handing myself in to the police, but that just feels like trapping myself in a dead end.”
The Caterer explains that they resolve to leave the country but as they explain their plan-
The car window shatters inwards from a sudden loud gunshot. The CATERER is wetly silenced.
Someone approaches, reloading an enormous rifle with growling dogs in tow.
They stop then yank open the car door.
LADY MOWBRAY
“Well run dearie. Well run…”
The line goes dead.
If we view this through the lens of Smirke’s 14 (plus the Extinction) the most obvious Entity here would be The Hunt. This case shares many similarities with plenty of The Hunt’s manifestations in TMA. For example, being hunted by colleagues or people you know in a death game type set up (such as in MAG 112 (Thrill of the Chase) with the Murder Club and the domain Trevor was stuck in with all the metaphorical witch hunts and people constantly turning on each other. Mowbray’s dogs are probably some sort of hunting dog and the Caterer is being chased / hunted by Mowbray herself like an animal on top of hearing the barking of dogs. Daisy from TMA has also been compared to a sort of metaphorical dog. Which makes sense if you consider the overlap between police and hunting dogs meant to pursue targets. Plus, in MAG 31 (First Hunt) we get “As I looked at him, the strangest thing popped into my head. Have you ever read The Duchess of Malfi? I had to study it for my O-Levels, many years ago. Dreadful play, as I remember, the worst sort of old revenge tragedy, all incest and murder and madness. But there’s a line that stays with me, a doctor diagnosing the Duchess’ brother with lycanthropy. As I recall it goes, “Once met the duke, ‘bout midnight in a lane behind St. Mark’s church, with the leg of a man upon his shoulder. Said he was a wolf. Only difference was, a wolf’s skin is hairy on the outside, his on the inside”. Looking at this thing that wanted to kill me, it’s the only way it’s the only description that feels right.” and Jon refers to the strange hunter in the statement as a “wolfman.” So The Hunt is not stranger to canines and it tends to lean towards more animalistic imagery.
The case also has some themes that parallel The Slaughter (with the violence and military background), The Web (the Caterer feeling physically unable to disobey Mowbray’s command. Although, this could just be due to the fear and massive guns), The Eye (with the fear of being found or someone knowing where you are), The Dark (with the hunt taking place at night and one of the caterers tripping over a hole in the darkness), The Flesh (with all the food imagery and the caterers are in the place of a game animal (which is meant to be caught and cooked)), and The End (with the fear of being killed).
Some people might wonder why I usually bother going through some of the other possible Entities or parallels like this (especially since if we are to assume Smirke’s 14 is still at all applicable this is the most Hunt hunts to ever Hunt. For one, it’s supposed to be a reminder that the Entities aren’t completely distinct and exist on a vague spectrum at best. All the Entities constantly bleed and overlap each other so trying to perfectly and neatly box them tends to be unhelpful and it’s very rare that only one emotional fear is present. I also do this to help try to keep my mind open. Like I said, Entities bleed into each other all the time and this can sometimes make it hard to pick apart (if at all). Sometimes I get so pigeonholed into the possibility of a single specific Entity I kind of lose sight of other possibilities or Entities. For example, while I think this case screams the Hunt there is a very good argument for something like The Slaughter here. Assuming Smirke’s 14 are even still relevant anyway.
As the line dies Celia is clearly disturbed and we hear Lady Mowbray herself say “Fascinating.” Yeah, she’s in the office now with her dogs and it was very trippy listening to this for the first time. Celia is startled by her appearance. Once again, I have to wonder if Mowbray was quiet or if the cases sort of draw people in. In TMA the statements could have strange effects, for example some characters would find it difficult to stop reading statements once they started and may sort of space out. The statements are also noted as being stressful or taxing for some people to read / listen to. However, this could also just as easily be because Celia was listening to a horrifying first hand account.
CELIA jumps up with a cry and turns to find Lady Mowbray and her dogs
standing right behind her. The dogs growl threateningly.
LADY MOWBRAY CONT.
“Sit.”
CELIA
“Excuse me?”
LADY MOWBRAY
“I was talking to the boys.”
The dogs sit. They are not fur babies, they are what turns up when
someone says “release the hounds”. (Yes this is actually in the official transcripts you can go check)
The transcripts also say “MOWBRAY sniffs her as though she were a particularly odd vintage.” and it describes Mowbray as stalking while she asks Celia for her name. So Mowbray is acting like a dog or animal sizing up some prey and comparing Celia to a vintage suggests that Mowbray sees her in the same way one might see a fine wine. Something to be savored and consumed. I think it’s interesting that Celia actually refuses to give Mowbray her name by simply saying “I didn’t.” upon being asked “What did you say your name was dear?” This isn’t the first time names have seemed important. In episode 10 (Saturday Night), as Gwen delivers the letter to Mr. Bonzo, Nigel says “Mr Bonzo meet… I didn’t actually get your name. Probably for the best.” and “The name, the address – tell him where to go.” This implies that names might have some sort of importance when it comes to how Externals find or pick their targets. The OIAR is also connected to the government so it may also have to do with the government being able to pull up a file or something using someone’s name.
Celia is definitely holding it together pretty well and Mowbray remarks on her high levels of bravery. As I went over in episode 7 “Give and Take” (TMP Quick Thoughts 7) Celia is heavily implied to have some connection to the TMA universe and know a suspicious amount about the Entities. She even shares the name of a character that shows up in TMA, specifically a member of Melanie and Georgie’s cult. With this in mind, Mowbray’s commentary on Celia’s bravery is interesting. Firstly, Mowbray’s dogs get aggressive when Celia was startled by Mowbray. It could be that they are just getting excited but if Mowbray and / or her dogs are some sort of Avatar or connected to a Power it could be that both her and her dogs are reacting to, and looking for, fear. Since Celia knows this she could be hiding or dampening her fear as a form of protection. The more fear someone has or shows the more tempting they are for the Entities to torment. Lena even says “But he didn’t, which means you’ve passed the first part of your probation. Congratulations. Did you scream?” and “You should. It really helps one cope with the more affronting aspects of the job. And they usually like it.”
Not showing fear isn’t guaranteed to keep you safe but in TMA a character named Fiona Law managed to survive many encounters due to her propensity to pass out. As detailed in MAG 167 (Curiosity): “Of course, retreat is not always possible in such a line of business, and when that proved to be the case, there was a single trait which Fiona possessed that saw her surviving encounters which had killed far braver souls than her: Because when she was pushed to the very limits of her terror, Fiona Law would faint. And while there are those things in the dark that would kill you as you slept, most get no real delight from it, unless you are awake enough to know what is happening. And so, through cowardice and unconsciousness, Fiona had survived an entire generation of Archivist. And even stranger, when Angus Stacey died and she had the chance to walk away, she decided to remain.” So while a lack of fear isn’t guaranteed to protect you it does help. Also, both names and outward displays of fear seem important in Protocol.
Gwen comes in to collect Mowbray and as she leaves she tells Celia “Catch you next time, dearie.” to which Celia says “No, you won’t.” Celia probably knows that Mowbray may be being a bit more literal when she promises to catch someone later. Gwen offers her refreshments but Mowbray declines, explaining that she ate recently. There’s kind of an implication that Mowbray ate one or more of the caterers, and probably the one that was giving this episode’s case. Mowbray also says “That’s me yes. I presume you’re Gwendolyn Bouchard?” when Gwen asks for her. It could simply be that Mowbray was told who Gwen was beforehand but I wonder if the other Externals have been told about Gwen, especially since, based on the comment I brought up from Lena earlier, they seem to enjoy scaring people like the Externals Liaisons.
Mowbray also asks “Bouchard… You wouldn’t be of the Cheshire Bouchard’s would you?” but the scene ends before we hear Gwen’s full response. Considering the implication from Lena that Gwen’s family has a ton of money (so much so that Gwen blackmailing her for money seems silly) and Mowbray is clearly very rich I wonder if Mowbray has had an encounter or connection with the Bouchard family. As for who Cheshire is, I have no idea. I wouldn’t be surprised if they turn out to be yet another person in TMA with too much money and time on their hands though.
As the scene closes the transcripts say “CELIA exhales shakily before turning back to the computer.” implying that she was suppressing her fear or at least not showing them. Mowbray said “interesting” when Celia finished listening to the case and I have to wonder what Mowbray was referring to. Was she referring to the computer itself, the information in the case she’s in, or even Celia herself? Additionally, she’s probably one of the OIAR’s externals. In the case she’s wielding a large gun that’s described as “this huge custom rifle over her shoulder, like an antique elephant gun or something. There was no way it was UK legal, the thing looked like it could take out a jeep, never mind a stag!” It’s possible she just owns this gun illegally but I wonder if the OIAR or some other faction supplied her with the gun.
I also have to wonder how many of the externals get their victims assigned to them by the OIAR and if so how many? Is it all of their victims or just some of them? The possibility of a target being in this episode is interesting since Bonzo’s target also seemed like they were wealthy or had a decent amount of money at the expensive club in episode 12 (Getting Off). Wealth and money seem like another noticeable theme in Protocol so far.
We cut to Alice at the performance of “Penny for the Well” as it comes to a close. She talks with Luke and it turns out that while Luke’s music was supposed to be a chill side gig it’s been really picking up. Luke also says “You joke but the managers already added seven more cities to the Dredgerman tour.” Alice also mentions Glastonbury and a quick google search tells me that it’s just a really big festival with all kinds of stuff (like music performances). So when Alices says “Hello? Yes? Is that Glastonbury? Why yes, we DO have a minute…” she is joking about Luke being invited to a massive event. Luke asks about Sam and Alice says he couldn’t make it. Luke says “Shame he couldn’t make it tonight” and Luke and Alice continue to hang out and drink. I think it’s interesting that Luke and Sam seem to have a possible friendship or acquaintance.
We then cut to a tape recorder again and get “A tape recorder CLICKS, distantly a body shuffles in an alley off the main road.” The body is of some sort of victim talking and muttering. They keep talking about things like how they are trying to breathe and how they are being dragged below the line of sea and sky. So it sounds like they are talking about drowning and they are also having trouble breathing as they gasp for air. Alice is heading home, and the transcripts state that she is still buzzing from the show (she’s slightly intoxicated). Alice runs into this seemingly drowning woman and the victim grabs her in some sort of panic or desperation leading to a small altercation as Alice throws the victim off. Alice begins to panic and call 999 for an ambulance as the victim appears to choke and gasp for air.
As Alice explains the situation she mentions “Yeah there’s someone I don’t know if they’ve OD’d but they’re going into a fit or something.” The victim then seemingly dies, or at least stops breathing, but the transcripts clarify that she dies from an impossible amount of water coming out of her lungs, and Alice starts performing CPR. As she panics the transcripts say “She sees the tape recorder next to the body and picks it up.” This implies that the tape recorder was on the strange drowning woman and it could be an Entity such as The Web trying to get the tape recorder where it needs to go or even give it to Alice. It could even have to do with the ERROR that escaped the Institute’s ruins in episode 10 (Saturday Night) since that situation was also being recorded via tape recorder. Maybe ERROR even saw it and picked it up at some point. However, as “The victim starts to speak again, quietly, bubbling up through the water and out of dead lips.” Alice panics, drops the tape recorder, and flees the scene, leaving what the transcripts describe as a dead woman behind as the deceased person’s voice trails off and the episode ends.
It’s kind of hard to understand what the victim is saying the entire time so here’s the transcripts of the entire speech awkwardly stitched together: “- the second time is up I try to grasp the air and fill my lungs that burn and rattle full. I can’t, there’s so much air but none inside as I go down again the cold surrounds and drags me down, the blue the black the weight of all the sodden fates awaiting me below the line of sea and sky. I kick, I lunge I flail towards the brightened blue and break above the third and final time. I know I'm spent there is no more within me save the salt spun death that reaches down my throat and spasms in my chest that cannot breathe inside me i'm done the water is... is... dark Deeper… Deeper… Down among the dead and swollen flesh so pale within this lightless place where eyes are open cloudy white and all the water pushes down upon a lifeless form that sinks and sinks down to the bottom that is not there no sandy grave below the swell no rest among the coral and the depths I feared so much but reached up and over land to claim me still.”
The force this victim is talking about is probably the same force that Gordon was talking about in episode 11 (Marked). I’ll refer to this Entity as “The Deep” like many other fans for now. In Episode 11 Gordon says, among other things, “I saw them hanging around the office when I was waiting. Waiting so long just to see it, just to know what’s in the water. And they took it. They think they’re smart, but I saw them I know where they’re staying and if they think they deserve it they’re wrong. It belongs to the deep. I’m going to go get it and I’m going to find it and if they try and stop me I swear the ocean will claim us all. I can taste the salt and spray. It’s waiting in the water.” So there’s a lot of the same imagery here, plus the earlier mentioned parallels with Dredgerman’s name.
Some people are arguing that The Deep is a completely new Entity of some sort but I would argue that what we have seen of The Deep fits in line pretty comfortably with The Buried. The Buried also has a strong association with water in the form of deep water, drowning, and suffocation (which seems to be happening to this woman). Gordon angrily says that the body Ink5 obtains belongs to the deep (which sounds similar to The Buried’s connection to burying bodies or making sure they aren’t dug up). In fact, some of The Buried’s many other names is “Choke”, “Too Close I Cannot Breathe” and “Forever Deep Below.” Forever Deep Below is especially an interesting name since the woman mutters “...the blue the black the weight of all the sodden fates awaiting me below the line of sea and sky…” So something deep below the horizon of the sea and sky. All the names I mentioned fit pretty well with what the woman seems to be affected by, she is literally choking and struggling to breathe as water fills her lungs. Even something like “The Deep” sounds like it could be right at home as one of The Buried’s names. The Buried ultimately revolves around the fear of not having enough space, whether that be from literally being stuck in a small space, metaphorically lacking wiggleroom, or not having enough space in something like your lungs to breathe. So being trapped deep underwater or underground first with The Buried as a motif. It’s also important to remember that the Entities are no stranger to having multiple names or titles. For example, there is The Eye and The Beholding but these both refer to the same Entity. I would actually be a little surprised if all the characters referred to the Entities with the exact same set of names even if Smirke’s 14 does end up being still in use by the OIAR or other people.
Some people might argue The Vast because it also has an association with the deep ocean, and Simon even tries to use this association for a ritual, but it’s important to remember that Entities can overlap in both fear and manifestation and it’s not always what they manifest as but why. When The Vast manifests as the ocean or bodies of water it usually does so to capture the fear in regards to the immense size of such bodies but when The Buried does this it usually has to do with suffocation and drowning (like what we see now). Obviously, these can overlap since something large can easily smother or crush you but hopefully you get my point, and remember even often opposing Entities are connected and bleed into each other.
Conclusion
Previously I hoped that the next external Gwen got to see would be someone who can talk and give some actual questions / answers and it looks like I could be getting my wish depending on how this goes. Although, whether Mowbray is an external is still technically up in the air and maybe she’s just been brought on but I think it’s safe to assume that her being an external is likely. I wonder if she knows anything if at all.
I’m also beginning to wonder if ERROR is somehow connected to the tapes and what it’s plan / goal is. Alice expressed fear of travelling alone previously ever since leaving the Institute’s ruins but despite seemingly being alone before and after running into the woman there is no sign of ERROR appearing to attack or anything.

*clears throat* yes to the first question. won't answer the second. ONE to the third. we won't elaborate for once. *exits the stage*
let’s start with the western verse because it’s easier since he only had one romantic partner before lucy gray. during his teenage years, while some of his friends (jesse) were falling in love for the first time and experimenting in barns and behind stacks of hay, billy simply didn’t have enough free time to try and find himself a girl. he was busy taking care of his little brother and working many odd jobs to help his ma. besides, he was a rather shy boy and blushed at the mere idea of approaching a woman, let alone doing more than holding hands.
when he meets alice, he’s already on the run and wanted for attempted robbery and escaping jail — every day might be his last (or at least that’s what it feels like) and so he engages in this short-lived, opportunistic fling with her. they make love twice, and the relationship is over before it has the chance to really begin when he shoots the blacksmith. after that, he’s back on the run and doesn’t look back, and then he meets lucy gray and falls in love… and that’s it.
of course, he’s popular with women, younger and older alike. his charm, rebellious nature and handsome features make him both attractive and interesting, but he stays loyal and faithful to lucy gray. *puts emphasis on it* he ain’t ever cheating on his girl.
as for how often they make love… if it was up to billy, they’d settle down in some remote location, in the middle of nowhere, and never leave their bed (he hopes they get reincarnated as rabbits). but with all seriousness, billy’s life as an outlaw means they most likely have to move rather frequently and face constant danger, and once the lincoln county war is in full swing, they’re also rarely alone and don’t really have a place to call their home. and so he’s quite desperate, especially being in his early twenties and having a rather high libido, living in this state where adrenaline’s constantly pumping through his veins, and probably bugs her for a kiss any time he can get her alone (lol). it’s really up to her how often they do it because he’s ready any day any time any place.
in our modern verse, his love life is a lot more complex. he’s only ever truly been in love with lucy gray but he does engage in sexual relationships and one night stands with other women while they’re broken up. i refuse to list all his partners throughout the years because he’s a slut in this verse, but here’s a few dishonorable mentions:
emma/emily (we will never know what her name is) — the alice of the modern verse. a brief, insignificant fling. he did end up going back to her after #virginia for a few nights but it was short-lived.
blair baker — billy’s fellow classmate and wannabe movie director. a new yorker through and through. the opposite of lulu gray in every way possible. billy doesn’t want to be alone and needs someone to help him forget about the heartbreak he’s suffered. the love life is in shambles because there’s really no love involved. it’s awkward at best and downright disappointing at worst (so no, the love making doesn’t happen often — once a month if at all and it’s a pain). they don’t even live together.
HOW MANY PARTNERS AT ONCE. i’m — ONE. just one. he’s not that bold or deranged.

Writer’s Month 2024, Day 10 (‘season’)
TKA live action, Wang Jiexi/&Ye Xiu. T-rated (mentions of sex). Wang Jiexi realises he's ready for retirement, then has no idea what to do with that realisation.
(Side note: I refuse to jump down a fact-checking hole for this tonight, so pls just assume that City B has a “tap on, tap off” kinda transit card/app system on their metro buses. Hence WJX just chillin’ on there, and no specific ticket/destination/whatever needed.)

Wang Jiexi had always imagined it would be a slow creep—an experience or emotion to be tracked in small, incremental pieces over time. Except, he’d been wrong. It isn’t like that at all. It’s simply one crisp morning in early spring, the air like ice on his nose but the sun already beaming, and Wang Jiexi… Wang Jiexi simply looks up. At Gao Yingjie, laughing, with an arm slung around Liu Xiaobie’s shoulders and a hand pushing gently at the side of Yuan Boqing’s head. At Liu Fei, walking backward in front of them, snickering at whatever it is that Yuan Boqing has just said.
They aren’t playing Glory. They aren’t talking about training or tactics or upcoming matches.
It doesn’t matter.
Wang Jiexi looks at them, and Wang Jiexi thinks: They’re doing so well. They don’t need me at all. And then, I’m done here.
There are a half-dozen little things on his to-do list, but none of them are urgent. And, anyway, Gao Yingjie is glancing over at Wang Jiexi with that unfairly perceptive expression he’s honed over the past season-and-a-half—like he isn’t going to be remotely surprised if Wang Jiexi stands, stretches, and explains that something has come up and he’s going to be leaving his tasks and the team in Yingjie’s capable hands for the day.
Gao Yingjie… really isn’t even slightly surprised at all.
Probably he’s known for a while now.
Wang Jiexi fetches his coat. He turns up his collar at the breeze, and walks to the nearest bus stop. He boards the next bus that arrives, and decides to stay until he’s had his fill of sitting and watching the city go by. No plan, he thinks, unsure whether the concept is thrilling or unsettling. No responsibilities.
And, sure, it’s not as though he’s actually leaving-leaving; he’ll be back before dinner, he knows. He’ll still be sixth player in the match on Saturday. And it’s been assumed all along that this season would be his last, but—this is the first time he’s truly, really known it.
He has no idea what he’s supposed to do with that knowledge.
He watches the people filing on and off the bus. Everything’s so bustling and loud; everyone’s so busy; hands full of bags or babies or swiftly-tapped phones, or some lively combination of the three. It makes his unusually quiet hands feel more empty than at-rest.
He has—he realises—not the faintest idea what he’s supposed to be doing if he isn’t busy with the team. It’s easy enough when he’s on holidays—family obligations neatly slotting in where team obligations would usually fit—but this isn’t… that. This is him, on a bus, because he felt like it. Because he had a whim, and gave himself permission. This is him, sitting in public with the jarring understanding that he has no idea what he’s supposed to be doing with any of this—himself, his looming retirement, his future, his freedom—because he’s been waiting patiently for some expected soft, slow creep that has been swapped, instead, with the world’s sharpest knowing.
He has no idea how he finds himself standing in front of the Ye family’s ornate gate. He could stop and puzzle it out, but he isn’t really sure he needs to. Besides—Ye Xiu already knows he’s here.
‘Yingjie texted you, didn’t he?’ Wang Jiexi says in a bland voice when Ye Xiu looks up from where he’s smoking on the front steps.
Ye Xiu looks very much as though he’s just rolled out of bed, all messy-haired and squinty-eyed, and handsome despite it. He doesn’t look even a little surprised to see Wang Jiexi. It’s… a thought, though, and a strangely interesting one, to imagine him having woken up specifically for Wang Jiexi. Wang Jiexi supposes he ought to feel more apologetic about the inconvenience, but then—it was Ye Xiu’s choice.
Both to come outside when he’d clearly rather be in bed, and to surrender his contact details to a miscellany of juniors.
Ye Xiu smirks through a puff of smoke. ‘Like I’d ever kiss and tell.’
The sudden image of Ye Xiu and Gao Yingjie kissing makes Wang Jiexi frown. He dismisses it quickly, although not before Ye Xiu has laughed at him in a low, snorting kind of way.
‘Want to talk about it?’ Ye Xiu asks. Not—Wang Jiexi is thankfully clear—about the expression Wang Jiexi had pulled just now, but about how Wang Jiexi has come to be standing outside Ye Xiu’s home rather than busy with the morning’s training.
Ye Xiu stubs out his cigarette, tosses the butt out of sight in the overly manicured garden bed, and waves Wang Jiexi forward with the air of a generous Young Master, rather than a gamer clearly not awake by preference.
‘I can make tea,’ Ye Xiu suggests, while Wang Jiexi is toeing his shoes off inside the front door. ‘We can impress my father with your pleasantly sensible earnestness again.’
The comment is a throwback to the last—and only—time Wang Jiexi had ever been here to visit. It had been a disaster, really, although Wang Jiexi can’t help but smile at the memory from the safety of the present.
‘Maybe later,’ Wang Jiexi agrees. He thinks about the busy people on the bus, with their hands full of things they care about. He thinks about what he’d like to be doing, since he’s giving himself permissions. He frowns at the tiles for a while, unbothered by the knowledge that Ye Xiu is leaning against the wall and watching openly. ‘I think…’
Wang Jiexi looks up. He watches as Ye Xiu smothers a yawn then smiles at him.
Wang Jiexi suddenly wonders. He says, ‘Actually, you’re welcome to go back to what you were doing before Yingjie so rudely woke you up. If you’d like. I can’t remember the last time I was in bed this time of morning.’
Ye Xiu’s surprised hesitation is so brief that Wang Jiexi barely sees it, despite actively looking. Wang Jiexi wonders whether he’s crossed too significant a line; at least, until he sees the slightly furtive way Ye Xiu glances down the hall, as though to check whether they’re still alone or not.
‘Bed for mid-morning naps and laziness, or bed for…?’ Ye Xiu lifts his eyebrows in a suggestive way that somehow manages to perfectly express the unspoken portion of his question.
‘I don’t know,’ Wang Jiexi says, because it’s the truth. He supposes he’s meant to have a strong opinion on the matter, but he doesn’t. His feelings about that kind of intimacy—like his feelings about retirement—are something he’d always assumed would be built piece-by-careful-piece. Now, he finds that he’d been wrong all over again. Of course, it isn’t as though Ye Xiu has actually offered sex; still, now that Wang Jiexi has imagined it, he finds he isn’t actually against the idea. He’s curious, mostly—and maybe slightly distracted by the vaguely absurd question of whether unexpected mid-morning sex would be more, or less, indolent than unexpected mid-morning naps.
He says, feeling quite certain that Ye Xiu will have seen the heat colouring his ears and already reached his own conclusions, ‘I might be okay with either, I think.’
Ye Xiu watches him sideways, then pushes away from the wall and shrugs comfortably. ‘Come on, then. There's no rush. You can figure it out when we get there.’
And maybe that’s the answer Wang Jiexi was looking for, actually; maybe that’s what he came here to hear.
Wang Jiexi leaves his shoes and his coat by the door, and his phone in his coat’s pocket, and follows Ye Xiu down the hall.

Update 2 - Oct 2023
I like tech, and i like tinkering with automation and programming, so part of my ambition for Sanctuary is to automation where it makes sense and make things easier when a) I have guests over to entertain, and b) should I need help with something in an emergency.
I've always been interested in the idea of a smart lock, and having remote access to a home without a key, however most devices look really obvious and I wanted something discrete from a manufacturer I vaguely knew. I started reading into it and the lock company Yale actually released a new smart lock whilst i was doing my research, the Conexis L2. The L1 was met with lukearm reviews, as the app was janky to use, it didnt always work, and some of the most obvious features were left out of the device. Luckily though, reviews of the L2 seemed to suggest that this was all addressed with the new device, so I decided to give it a shot.
One of the best things about this lock is the ability to check if the doors locked from wherever. I constantly leave for work, lock the door, walk 3 steps and then think "did i lock the door?", go back and then check it. Now I can just check from my phone (even though I always lock the door). Its also very useful for house sitting, as i can get spare keyfobs, assign them a name and then hand them out to immediate family. Similar for contractors too - if im at work, I can either unlock the door from my phone should they ring me, or give them access through the app via a guest email address and account. I can then restrict access as and when they do work for me. This is basically the same as giving them a key, but i dont have to chase them up to get the key from them should they forget to give it to me.
It does have a Geofencing feature too so that it primes the unlock when youre in a specific range, and then when your phone is near the door it will unlock for 30ish seconds before locking again, but this is only really useful if you have your hands full with shopping and you cant really get to your keys - otherwise its a bit of a gimmick.
Overall, pretty happy with it - its not overly "look at me - im a smart lock" and its been faultless since i installed it.
The dishwasher also arrived, so I spoke with R - a work colleague who suggested i get a dishwasher and he could help install all the pipework and get it all set up - and we penned in a date to get it all plumbed in. I got all the bits and pieces he specced out for me beforehand.
On the day, we took the washer out of its slot, removed the cabinets either side of it, and then looked at the plumbing. We just needed to put a T piece in and another line for the washer water supply - we did this with JG Speedfit components, that are simply push fit fittings and snap together like Lego.
We noticed that either side of where the washer was, there were tiles missing. This wasnt an issue, as we put some wood board in the slots, but made levelling the washer a PITA.
We also had to relocate the plug socket on that wall so that it didnt foul on the back of either of the appliances.
At that point, I realised the cupboard next to the washers new position wouldn't open because it didn't have enough clearance, so we moved a door from the other end of the kitchen cupboards with hinges on the opposite side, and put it next to the washer. This meant i could now open the washer door and the cupboard door.
The last thing to do in terms of pipework was replace the pipework under the sink with a U piece that had two waste points instead of a single waste point. This involved some cutting of the cupboard sides to accommodate the pipework, but that wasn't an issue either as I have more than enough cupboard space and could relocate things if needed.
Once it was all connected, we ran both appliances at the same time to make sure the connections for the waste water were all tight and could handle both lines being pressurised at the same time, and then started measuring out the new end-board, as previously this was the side of the small cupboard we had removed.
The end-board was due to be delivered that day, so we waited for it to get here. When it did, we measured it to size, cut the board, and then fit it into place - we cut snuggly and reinforced its location with some L brackets that went into the sideboard and the wall. Pleased with the fit and it was a pretty close match in terms of colour and surface to the rest of the kitchen, so I was happy with that too.
Once all that was completed, checked the connections for the waste water and noticed the washer was leaking a little - i hadn't tightened it up enough it seems! We retightened, and then ran the washer again to check if it leaked and when we were confident it hadn't, we then spent half an hour levelling the bastard thing. Super annoying and some of it was guesswork as the far corner had to be levelled, pushed back into position, then we had to rock it gently to see where it moved, pull it back out and adjust and rinse and repeat. Even now, in March 2024, its not perfect and I am going to have to replace the wood board with something else as it seems to be getting noisier with each cycle, but its running for now and that's the main thing.
Overall though, I'm pretty happy with how it turned out, and the appliances themselves have been faultless so far. Both are LG, with "smart" functions, which are somewhat useful and somewhat gimmicky.
Useful features including telling me when it is time to run a cleaning cycle with some sort of cleaner , as well as the washer auto stopping if it senses too much vibration from an unbalanced load. It will then send a message to the LG ThinQ app asking me to remove some items or to rearrange them in the drum - this will stop it damaging itself or from running across my kitchen. The dishwasher has a steam mode to really clean glass or ceramic items, like stained glasses or casserole dishes with years of baked on crap - whilst not tied to a smart function as such, its been pretty handy to use. The dryer function on the washer/dryer is also pretty energy efficient, i think in part because its got a heat-pump to generate the heat which it then just cycles round for a few hours, and on the other hand its about 10 years newer than the previous dryer left behind by the previous owner.
Gimmicks include being able to download "niche" cycles onto the machines, which so far has been pointless since none of the cycles that you can download offer anything you cant already achieve with the standard, in machine ones.
Having a dishwasher is much better for me as an individual, as its a good way to make the most of my time outside of work - it can do the washing whilst i sleep :)! Still, at this point Sanctuary didn't feel like my home. It felt like i was house sitting and being a super generous house sitter by maintaining it and buying new appliances whilst it is under my watch... I think as I put more of my own mark on it, it'll feel much more homely - even now, 8 months into ownership, im 50/50 feeling like a house sitter and like this is my own space.

Silence is a Resource
"Then Jesus said, 'Let's go off by ourselves to a quiet place and rest awhile.' He said this because there were so many people coming and going that Jesus and his apostles didn't even have time to eat. So they left by boat for a quiet place, where they could be alone.'"1
One night in March 2010, 100 marketing experts gathered into a restaurant in Helsinki, Finland. Their goal was to make a remote and medium-sized country a world-famous tourist destination. The problem was that Finland was known as a quiet country, and the Country Brand Delegation had been looking for a national brand that would make some noise. The experts pondered over the different strengths of their nation. There country had exceptional teachers, an abundance of wild berries and mushrooms, and a vibrant culture capital the size of Nashville, Tennessee. However, these things fell short of a compelling national identity. Someone proposed that maybe quiet wasn't such a bad thing. That got them thinking.
A few months later, the delegation issued a slick "Country Brand Report." It highlighted a list of marketable themes, but one key theme was brand new: silence. As the report explained, modern society often seems intolerably loud and busy. "Silence is a resource," it said. "In the future, people will be prepared to pay for the experience of silence." The next year, the Finnish Tourist Board released a series of photographs of lone figures in the wilderness, with the caption "Silence, Please." We live in a loud world, and more and more we see people seeking silence. Personally, our family covets our time away in the mountains, hiking through trails, because you can hear nothing more than nature. Finland had the right idea when they said, "Silence is a resource" because we need this silence in our lives to have healthy bodies and minds.
Jesus gave us the example of seeking silence several times throughout his ministry on earth. He was constantly being followed by multitudes of people, and those quiet times away in prayer, gave him the refreshment he needed to continue. When he created us, he preset us with the need for rest. If we do not get the rest we need, we will be unable to function at our very best and will eventually burn out.
Make intentional rest a priority. Not just for relaxation, but to spend time with our Father. It is truly amazing what time away in prayer and meditation can do. Perhaps God knew it would be difficult for us to get away from the noise around us, so he made nature so beautifully irresistible! Whether it's in the mountains, by a lake, in your own yard, or simply looking out your window, spend some time basking in God's goodness today.
Suggested prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for making rest a human need. Because it is in those times of rest and silence when I can hear you more clearly. Thank you for always being ready to listen and answer when I pray and for being my source of strength. In Jesus' name, amen.

He was supposed to receive his favourite happy pills after the test. "It will take only a moment.", he was told by the men that took him from his tent, while transporting him in the car. "You take the test, have a few hours of fun, we jot down what happens to you, and then happy pills. A bag full of them. Deal? " An entire bag. All for him! He could have smiled, if he wasn't so bad in withdrawal, slumped in the back seat and trembling like a leaf in the wind. He just nodded, desperately so. Anything, anything, anything. He didn't hesitate to sit on the chair in the middle of the dirty room, he didn't even flinch when the two men grabbed his arm and thrust a needle in it, injecting him with something that burned into his veins and made his head immediately spin. He didn't even notice he fell from the chair, and none of the men helped him. They just stared, jotting down notes, watching him being prey of spasms and tremors.
And then, the room's grey aspect suddenly coloured. It was rainbow, and shiny, and ever moving, and everything became a blur all of a sudden.
He was in the streets soon after, staggering around alone, without understanding how he got out of the room nor where the men even were. He knew he didn't have his bag of happy pills, because they couldn't give them to him, but he has no clue of why. He can't really understand - not even where he's going, with the walls coloured and ever moving, and the sky becoming a huge rainbow of shifting shades. He fell in the alley, and from that moment he just stared at the sky, muttering. « Rojo. Naranja. Azul. Púrpura... Hermoso… ». A broken chuckle. « Es hermoso... ¿No es hermoso, Jona? »
He doesn't know how long he stays there, but he's still muttering at the sky when he feels being picked up. He makes a surprised sound halfway through the vigilante's gesture, and finds himself on her shoulder without really having the time, or even remotely the lucidity, to think of doing something to stop her. The alley has even more colours than the sky, and for a moment it is more interesting than the person moving him. « ¿Qué? » he asks when she talks, his voice drawn out, the different language clicking late into place. « Ah... wha...? » he starts, only to get lost again in the colours.
It takes her to name the hospital to finally get him to hold his attention a few seconds longer, though he understands the sentence late, translating it mentally with difficulty. When he does, though, he's suddenly rigid and jumpy on her shoulder, his breath already irregular getting even worse.
« ¡El hospital no! » he exclaims - almost screams -, forgetting again to talk in English and more focused for a moment in the attempt to get down her shoulder. So high on drugs, he can barely even recognize what's the ground and what's the sky at this point. « N... no hospital! Hospital, ahh, b-bad! I good here, I can walk home! I can walk home!! ». He grasps to her, so weakly trying to get down to feel pathetic. Everything is spinning so hard, he can't even make the right movements to actually get away from her grip. It's probably evident as well how bad his lie is - even if that broken tent he found can actually be considered a home, he doesn't have any idea of where he is right now. Yet, he still insists, despite the head spinning and the injected arm almost unable to move by how badly it hurts. « P-put down me! Okay? I can wa-walk! I walk, I walk!! »

So the woman simply tries picking him up... and hesitated when she noticed how light he is. For a grown man he was way to light. Still, she continued, and now puts Gillspie over her shoulder. Much easier to carry him around like this! It's still concerning that she can pick him up though... Without even using her powers!

SPOILERS FOR SEASON 5 (kinda)
I hum tiredly as I relax on the couch, “Y/N, you have to do something about Rick!” Jerry says sternly. I raise an eyebrow at Jerry and he quickly deflates “I don’t have to do anything. Bringing Rick here wasn’t my choice.” I state.
“Come on, he keeps taking Morty out of school! You don’t want him here as much as I do. Isn’t there anything you can do?” Jerry asks with full desperation, the garage door swings open and Morty stumbles towards us “Hey, Mort….how ya feeling?” I ask, watching Morty fall onto the couch. “T-terrible Grandma! Rick m-made kill aliens that looked like you guys.” Morty tells us “See,” Jerry says “He’s taking Morty out of school and training him to kill us.”
I roll my eyes “Morty, go take a nap. You earned it.” I tell Morty softly, handing him the remote “Thanks Grandma, b-but I don’t think I can sleep after all that.” Morty sighs, I stare at him sympathetically before standing up “Jerry, go make Morty a sandwich.” I order. Jerry opens his mouth and i shoot him a stern glare. I smile victoriously as Jerry walks into the kitchen “Hey Grandma?” Morty asks “Hm?” I hum
“N-no offense, but what the heck did you see in Rick? He’s…not really your t-type.” Morty states “I know, but to be fair, he was actually a whole lot nicer when I met him." I tell him "Really? What happened to him?" Morty asks, glancing off towards the garage "I'm not really sure...he just...lost interest," I state sadly "We were always in sync, we could communicate without even opening our mouths-I mean, we still can do that, but nowadays I’m telling him to f*ck off.”
Morty frowns sadly and Jerry walks into the room “Here’s your sandwich, Morty…Y/N, is there anyway you can go talk to Rick?” Jerry begs. “Fine.” I groan, I stand up and walk towards the garage door. I knock on the door tiredly “Rick?” I call, the door swings open and a-very drunk Rick grins at me “N/N!” He beams happily.
“Rick, could you please stop traumatizing your grandson?” I sigh, ignoring the grabby hands Rick made at me. "Traumatize? No, b-URP-baby no...I'm giving him some character." Rick says, chugging more of whatever was in his flask "Really?" I ask with an unamused tone "Y-yeah, yeah. Beth a-URP-and Jerry shelter him too much. I'm making sure he understands how sh*tty the r-real world is before it's too late." Rick explains proudly.

I = I love you (How fast do they say the L-word?)
In all honesty, the first time he says it will probably by a total accident. It would just slip out in the middle of a conversation one day. Chances are, you two aren’t even dating when he first says it. He’d get all flustered and try to pretend like he didn’t say it, but you know he’s clearly lying. After flailing about for a while, he’d calm down and mutter something about how he hopes you feel the same way.
J = Jealousy (How jealous do they get? What do they do when they’re jealous?)
He could rival Levi for the title of Avatar of Envy. Maybe it’s a side-effect of his greed, but he will get super jealous the second anyone goes near you. WHen he’s jealous, it’s very obvious. Most of the time, he’ll just come up behind you and hug you/kiss you just to show that you’re his. And, depending on the person, he might just drag you away from them entirely. Afterwards, he’ll be super pouty and demands you give him attention to make up for it.
K = Kisses (What are their kisses like? Where do they like to kiss you? Where do they like to be kissed?)
His kisses are usually very excited and passionate. Basically, he wants to show you how much he loves you through his kisses since he has a hard time actually saying what he feels. His favorite place to kiss you is on your cheek. He just thinks it’s cute. He likes being kissed on his forehead or on the top of his head. It just gives him some comfort.
L = Little ones (How are they around children?)
He’ll claim that he hates children, but everyone knows that’s a lie. In reality, he really likes kids. He thinks they’re cute. However, kids don’t like him all that much, which is why he’s so bad with them. They never listen to him, and he does not know how to control them.
M = Morning (How are mornings spent with them?)
You’ll usually be waking up first, and you’ll also be waking him up. He is a child who will beg for five more minutes, but don’t give in cause then he’ll never get up. Most likely, you’ll have to drag him out of bed and offer some kind of reward for him. On the days you two can sleep in, he’ll try and keep you there for as long as possible. You two have nothing to do? He’ll somehow convince you to just stay in bed with him all morning.
N = Night (How are nights spent with them?)
Nights are a bit of a wildcard for him. Sometimes he’ll be out late gambling or getting punished by Lucifer, and you’ll obviously be there with him. On nights when he’s not doing anything, you two will be in his room or yours just laying in bed. Maybe you’ll watch a movie, maybe you’ll just sit and talk, who knows? It usually ends with him falling asleep first and you following shortly after.
O = Open (When would they start revealing things about themselves? Do they say everything all at once or wait a while to reveal things slowly?)
He’s accidentally open pretty early on. He doesn’t mean to open up as quickly or easily as he does, but he can’t help it. Being with you just makes it so easy for him to relax, and then he’s suddenly spilling his whole life story.
P = Patience (How easily angered are they?)
He has so much patience, especially with you. It does not matter what you’re doing, he will sit there and wait forever. The only time he isn’t patient is when money is involved or someone is threatening you. In these cases, he snaps quicker than even Lucifer or Satan.
Q = Quizzes (How much would they remember about you? Do they remember every little detail you mention in passing, or do they kind of forget everything?)
He pretends to remember nothing, but he actually has a great memory. He’ll remember literally every detail you tell him. His tsundere attitude gets in the way of him actually saying how much he cares, but his memory and attention to detail proves it just as well. It could be the smallest detail about this one time in your childhood, and he’d still remember the entire story as if he experienced it.
R = Remember (What is their favorite moment in your relationship?)
His favorite moment was this one time where you two got in trouble with Lucifer again. You two had managed to run away from him, but y’all knew you needed to hide and quick. Eventually, you found a small closet in the house that could just barely fit the both of you. Lucifer passes on and it’s safe for now. For some reason that neither of you remembers, you two just start laughing. At first it’s small giggles, but soon it’s full on cackling. The situation was just so funny in that moment. He remembers seeing the look of pure joy and excitement on your face, and he knew from that moment on that he wanted to be with you forever.
S = Security (How protective are they? How would they protect you? How would they like to be protected?)
He is the most protective guard dog you will ever have. He’ll play it off as just having been given the assignment by Lucifer, but we all know he just loves you. The second someone comes near you, he will attack them. He’s probably also bitten someone at least once. There are some points where not even his brothers can get near you.
T = Try (How much effort would they put into dates, anniversaries, gifts, everyday tasks?)
Boy tries so hard but they always end up in disaster. He really wants to impress you and show you how much he cares, but nothing ever works for him. In the end, you two just end up doing something simple like going out to dinner or watching a movie. It’s not what he intended, but it makes you happy, so he’s cool with it.
U = Ugly (What would be some bad habits of theirs?)
He steals from you. A lot. Once you start dating, he claims all of your stuff as his. You’ll often find things missing from your room, mostly things like clothes or trinkets.
V = Vanity (How concerned are they with their looks?)
He’s a model, so obviously he puts a lot of effort into how he looks. Trust me, he is nowhere near as bad as Asmo, but it’s still more than normal. He wants to look good cause he believes that’s how he gets people to like him. Really, he’s just insecure that people won’t like him if he doesn’t look good.
W = Whole (Would they feel incomplete without you?)
Oh most definitely. You made the most impact on him. If you were to leave him, he would absolutely fall apart. Like, no one would ever hear from him again if something took you away from him.
X = Xtra (A random headcanon for them.)
I headcanon that he actually kinda tolerates his brother’s tormenting because that’s the only attention they really give him. He seems very starved for attention, and before you, he only really had his brothers. But they usually ignore him for the most part. So, he purposely gets on their nerves so that they’ll pay him some attention. Sure, it mostly consists of them yelling at him and calling him a scummy excuse of a brother, but it’s better than nothing. Then you came along and gave him some good, loving attention, and that’s when he realized he deserved so much more than what he took from his brothers.
Y = Yuck (What are some things they wouldn’t like, either in general or in a partner?)
He would not like someone who acts like his brothers. By that, I mean he wants someone who won’t bully him in the same way his brothers do. He wants a safe place, and he wants someone who can provide that for him, not someone who’ll just make him feel worse.
Z = Zzz (What is a sleep habits of theirs?)
He snores. And moves a lot. You have fallen out of bed many times when sleeping together. He also steals all of the covers. He’ll apologize the next morning, but then do it again that night.

How Bad is Sia’s “Music” really?
I watched it illegally (because there was no way I was paying for that bullshit) and found out. It’s not as bad as we thought... It’s worse.
TW for ableism, Sia, drugs, alcohol, just in general a terrible movie, meltdowns, blackface
Literally the first thing you hear while they’re showing the production companies is THOSE stereotypical noises. If you’ve seen the trailer, you’ll know what I mean.
And yes, she does this for the WHOLE fucking movie
What was the need to show her in her underwear? Maddie Ziegler was 14 when this was made, so what was the need??? And why did Sia prolong the scene by having her hitting herself?
Less than a minute in and my reaction was already “what the fuck is this shit?”
So the opening number not only had stereotypical exaggerated facial expression, it has Maddie in BLACKFACE?!? And with culturally appropriated hair?!?
The exaggerated facial expressions are literally constant and I took photos during the film to show it, more later, but I’ll keep mentioning it

I will keep saying it but WHY are the facial expressions/vocalisations CONSTANT?!! Literally they do not stop at all. I work with a child who is actually similar to this in that he’s nonverbal and he makes similar noises/faces, but the way they’re in this movie is so over-exaggerated?!? And even the kid I work with doesn’t do it 24/7?!?
Sia, calling your characters Zu and Music doesn’t make them interesting in the slightest. They’re still painfully terrible and one dimensional
Literally ONE minute after being left alone with her autistic sister, Zu calls the mental health service asking if they could “theoretically” “pick up” her sister?!? Like she wants to get rid of her already?!?
“A magical little girl” - autism isn’t a magical power?!? And Music is a young woman, not a little girl?!? Why are you infantilising her?!?
Okay I’m not being funny but this choreography is NOT hard. ANYONE can do it, so claiming that you needed to hire a dancer to be Music because of the numbers is literally bullshit (and even so, there are so many amazing autistic actors and dancers?!?)

The fact that Leslie Odom’s character says “I’m going to crush you now”?!?

The fact that she gets up, smiling and happy after a meltdown and immediately is excited to get a snow cone... I can honestly say that after a meltdown, I am in no way happy or smiling. I am often not very verbal and I’m withdrawn/not myself for at least several hours, usually the rest of the day. Fuck this film
This film is literally just about Zu, and Music is there for a plot device to give her character development. That’s all she’s there for.
Love how Sia shoehorned Zu being suicidal in there. You know, just to try and make her more easy to sympathize with (it doesn’t work)
This film is literally just a 1 hour 47 minute Sia music video with ZERO plot

Yep, Sia really showed Music eating chewing gum off the underside of a park bench. Of course.
Look, the kid I work with does similar stuff by putting literally anything and everything in his mouth but like... why would you put that in your movie?
And there’s no indication before this that Music puts everything and anything in her mouth, she just randomly decides to get on her knees, under the bench and eat chewing gum, like she calculates that it’s there and gets it???
She has a THIRD meltdown after an allergic reaction to a bee sting and her sister just yells at her before realizing... I’m not here for this movie, I feel like I drifted off and was not really there
So Zu got angry because she left the drugs at the park but she’s not that upset that her sister had an allergic reaction???
Zu gets absolutely drunk because a) she lost Sia’s drugs and b) she’s stressed out by her autistic sister... wow, great message, Sia!
She really fucked off and left her sister alone to go clubbing/on a bender
The less said about the musical number here the better
Sia’s movie also checks the box of having stereotypical Asian parents, specifically stereotypical Asian dad being harsh/angry and hitting his wife!
ALSO HE PUSHED AND KILLED HIS SON WTF IS HAPPENING
Less than 3 minutes after the last, there’s a musical number that I think was about this side character going to heaven... another shitty Sia-esque number
The patterns during the number made my brain hurt.
Also there are so many autistic actors who can also dance, and yet Sia chose the neurotypical one because ✨ N E P O T I S M ✨
I just want to know how it was deemed necessary to show the fact the autistic character peed/wet herself? I mean... ??? It’s just so undignified and not at all necessary to the plot. Nothing happens after that, it just moves onto the next scene and it didn’t do anything

Ah yes - the girl who the characters have said has problems with routines being changed/change in general... you’re now going to fuck up her routine by dumping her in a facility. Perfect Plan.
The nonverbal autistic girl suddenly speaking to say “don’t go” - you can just predict it from the off, can’t you?
Love that as soon as Music starts talking, Zu is like “fuck it, I’ll keep her!”
Zu really went and crashed Ebo’s brothers wedding... in a fucking bralette... YIKES

Also that kiss/romance montage between Zu and Ebo was the CRINGIEST fucking shit ever
This movie seems to be implying that Music has locked in syndrome or something, like she’s locked in her own head or whatever it’s called, and I just... *sigh*
Oh and now Music magically fucking sings in a room FULL of strangers... this is literally embarrassing, please let this end

Let me reiterate: this is a movie about a neurotypical former drug addict whose character development comes from the autistic character, from having an autistic sister she has to take care of. I’m so tired.
We are NOT plot devices or tools for character development. Not once does anyone in this film treat Music like a human being - she’s treated as a burden, a problem, and then like a pet that they decide to keep. Not once is the film focused on how she is feeling - it’s always about Zu or Ebo. The performance itself was so over exaggerated and it made me want to cry when I watched it because this is how the world sees us, and this movie will make it ten times worse. It’s stuff like this that made me think “I don’t want to be labelled as autistic because people will think I’m a certain way”, that made me wait so long before going to the GP to get a referral.
As I said, poor autistic representation aside, the movie is just so appallingly bad. It truly is one of the worst films I’ve watched. If you’re going to watch it, please don’t - or, if you want to because you want to see how bad it is/to raise awareness/critical posts, at least do it illegally. Do not give Sia your money.
