taylor hasn’t (i mean she has a little, but kinda skattered all over), but aaron has! so we know some things (this is all mostly taken from these three interviews, if you want sourcing on something specific lmk)

dorothea was the first song, with closure following soon after. both of them were written “around folklore” but “after [it] came out”, so i’d guess sometime in mid july

in “late july” aaron sends the instrumental for willow over to taylor, and it kicks of another round of writing between the two of them (here's a full interview about the making of willow, but fair warning, it is extremely inside baseball)

no body no crime was confirmed to have been written remotely, sometime after aaron visited her in rhode island in early august and gave her a rubber guitar, but before she goes to lpss in mid september.

tis the damn season was explicitly written at long pond, on the second day of filming for folklore lpss (september 17)

champagne problems, gold rush, tolerate it, no body no crime, ivy, long story short, marjorie, evermore, and it’s time to go were all recorded at long pond studios, meaning taylor recorded them sometime between september 16-26, when she was there filming for the folklore lpss

Neve - Midnights

Do i even need to explain this one?? Neve gives such Midnights vibes, vigilante shit/mastermind/midnight rain???? Also SO yoyok coded. i feel like her romance is very Labyrinth/Snow on the Beach. And the woman who pets all of docktown’s stray cats is very “karma is a cat” of her idc.

Bellara - Red (TV)

This one was hard! It was between Red and 1989 to me. I just think Bellara would love the high energy pop beats (22, WANEGBT, Starlight). But i think she would LOVE Treacherous/State of Grace as well. Will help with the fanfic writing 100%. I put TV here specifically bc Better Man & Forever Winter could very much remind her of Cyrian??? And you can’t convince me Bellara wouldn’t be obsessed with ATWTMVTV.

Lucanis - Speak Now

Purple vibes, obvious. But he’s like, very Enchanted to me. AKA loves reading romance novels and the concept of romance but doesn’t know much about it/has never experienced it but wants it badly. Which is also why Electric Touch/Sparks Fly apply here. Don’t think about Lucanis listening to Castles Crumbling when he gets back from the Ossuary to find that Caterina is gone (+ later if you don’t save Treviso). Also Innocent was written about him, Taylor told me.

Also as @pinayelf pointed out, Assan as the Arrow?? Dying. But also Davrin’s romance is so Its Nice to Have a Friend. I saw someone talk about this not that long ago, but he’s very much a friend first?? Like he gives the vibe that as your LI you just hang out and rib on each other. I just i feel like they laugh a lot. + Lover as an album is soft but very anxiously attached?? Emmrich - Tortured Poets (The Anthology)

Emmrich would LOVE the flowery language in this. Would love analyzing the lyrics with his besties. He’d love The Albatross (which, coincidentally is one of my favs, guess he just has good taste) and The Manuscript. Also tbh i don’t know much about his romance but “you know how to ball, i know Aristotle” feels like Emmrich with a much younger Rook (shout out to But Daddy I Love Him as well). Idk i think he’d secretly love it. Also relating Robin to Manfred bc that is his son??? On the sad side i feel like Emmrich is very the Prophecy/Peter because he has that dialogue about how he ‘once thought he’d get married’ like he always wanted love but never found it.

This was very difficult but i think the general witchy vibes are very “I’m Rivaini, we’re cool with spirits”. Also Tolerate It feels like when their mom comes to visit and no matter what Taash does it’s not good enough. Laash specifically is Dorothea/Ivy to me. And then of course (endgame spoilers) Marjorie after their mom dies and RWYLM if Harding is also gone. As a fan of the ‘pots and pans’ of Closure, they also get this one assigned to them. Just feels right.

Prologue

To put it plainly, we just couldn’t stop writing songs. To try and put it more poetically, it feels like we were standing on the edge of the folklorian woods and had a choice: to turn and go back or to travel further into the forest of this music. We chose to wander deeper in and my collaborators and I are proud to announce that my 9th studio album and folklore’s sister record is here. It’s called evermore.

I’ve never done this before. In the past I’ve always treated albums as onе-off eras and moved onto planning the nеxt one as soon as an album was released. There was something different with folklore. In making it, I felt less like I was departing and more like I was returning. I loved the escapism I found in these imaginary/not imaginary tales. I loved the ways you welcomed the dreamscapes and tragedies and epic tales of love lost and found. So I just kept writing them. And I loved creating these songs with Aaron Dessner, Jack Antonoff, WB, and Justin Vernon. We’ve also welcomed some new (and longtime) friends to our musical kitchen table this time around…

Before I knew it there were 17 tales, some of which are mirrored or intersecting with one another. The one about two young con artists who fall in love while hanging out at fancy resorts trying to score rich romantic beneficiaries. The one where longtime college sweethearts had very different plans for the same night, one to end it and one who brought a ring. Dorothea, the girl who left her small town to chase down Hollywood dreams – and what happens when she comes back for the holidays and rediscovers an old flame. The ‘unhappily ever after’ anthology of marriages gone bad that includes infidelity, ambivalent toleration, and even murder. The most righteous motive, to avenge the fallen. The realization that maybe the only path to healing is to wish happiness on the one who took it away from you. One starring my grandmother, Marjorie, who still visits me sometimes…if only in my dreams.

I wanted to surprise you with this the week of my 31st birthday. You’ve all been so caring, supportive and thoughtful on my birthdays and so this time I wanted to give you something! I also know this holiday season will be a lonely one for most of us and if there are any of you out there who turn to music to cope with missing loved ones the way I do, this is for you.

I have no idea what will come next. I have no idea about a lot of things these days and so I’ve clung to the one thing that keeps me connected to you all. That thing always has and always will be music.

willow is... october. november maybe. it’s autumn it’s bending in the wind but it’s also crisp, sharp like the cold water of a stream.

champagne problems is november, it’s thanksgiving and the very beginning of december. the first snow of the year falling on the train tracks.

gold rush is september. it’s walks on the beach under the cool sun of early autumn. it’s cold enough for a sweater but still warm enough to walk barefoot on wooden floors.

ttds is the thick of december, a hard freeze, crunchy snow that stops traffic and shivering under an old quilt that could never quite warm you up.

tolerate it is february, long dismal bitter february when all the neighbors have left town for warmer weather and it feels like your house is the only one still inhabited.

nbnc is the decay of late december, quiet backwoods interrupted by tramping boots and the sound of a motorboat on the lake.

happiness is the same dismal february, a suitcase packed slowly and set by the front door. it’s the tree with a heart carved around two names, standing bare and dying in the backyard.

ivy is frost-covered january, icicles that grow on the eaves of a stone house and a fireplace seen through the window. it’s pawing away at the snow in the garden and finding the herbs still surviving underneath.

cowboy like me is december, lush green and gold. glitter and light in a holiday resort but quiet shivering in the dark empty courtyard beyond the ballroom’s glass doors.

long story short is the 28th of september. it’s a day of bright clear sunlight and a sharp wind that makes the aspen trees quiver.

marjorie is november, amber skies and flickering front porch lights and walking through the city in the brisk air. but it’s also november, 20 years ago, moonlit swims and cream soda in the car with the windows down on the highway.

closure isn’t as well-defined — it’s more of a sharp abstraction vaguely resembling february.

evermore is, well, gray november and december. it’s walks in the forest with wet leaves underfoot and it’s deep dark water under a gloomy sky.

Tis The Damn Season Dorothea is her struggling with her rejection of marriage + commitment in her younger years. I can't account for Gold Rush, Closure, and Marjorie. Closure is about saying goodbye forever, which also kind of fits I guess. Gold Rush dreams about a life which can never be which might be set when she was younger. Marjorie is about her deceased grandma which also also kind of fits into worrying about forever if you squint. To me the album is clearly from a place worrying about her what forever would really mean and how she's not picked that choice in her life before. I also point to Happiness maybe about her friends divorce as proof that was the worry and theme behind the project. To me it's crystle heart breakingly clear.

I do like your take but I think we can develop it further lol because I think actually if we’re going to talk about forever (or evermore as the actual title states) then Marjorie is very much part of that. I’m not sure if MARRIAGE is the central theme, because I still think a lot of songs don’t fit that, but perhaps time is? So what is time and how does time fit with timing, right, in relation to the concept of life and, well, forevermore. We know we’re all gonna die and even if we live a long and productive life, and even if we leave behind a legacy both in terms of work and in terms of progeny, it may not feel like we had enough time for the people left behind (the core thesis of Marjorie). So if we explicitly don’t have enough time, and can never have enough time, what do we do with the time we have? Do we feel stuck in time (RWYLM, TDDS, Dorothea)? Do we try to make the most of our time, because we know we won’t have enough of it (Happiness, ITTG, closure) so even though it’s difficult to leave situations, we should because otherwise we’re wasting our time? Do we “end” people’s time if they suck (NBNC)? Is unhappiness sometimes a result of bad timing (Champagne Problems and also TDDS) rather than inherent issues? What about flights of fantasy that never happen in a moment in time (Gold Rush)? Is forever - when we know there’s no such thing because, well, we all die - magic/a con/fantasy (CLM, Willow, LSS)? I just thought of this now and I like it a great deal as an explanation of what it’s about lol and how it ties to the title 😂

now, let’s discuss one of my top three taylor albums of all time:

- taylor said that folklore is an album of confessions while evermore is an album of endings, and while i think that's a good description of the two im gonna argue that evermore is actually a love album about heartbreak, which is why it's MY favorite album.

- each song is full of love to another but there's always something that is standing in the way to let it either be explored or it having already ended. good examples are in songs like ivy, tis the damn season, champagne problems, no body no crime, gold rush, happiness, marjorie, and so on. every song tells us how the narrator has a person they loved, either romantic or platonically, but they can't be with that person for one reason or another. something has stopped it, maybe it's even them and their own issues getting in the way of maybe it's a person physically standing in the way, either way something is stopping this love and it's breaking the narrator.

- this idea can be linked to several FMA characters, but i think hohenheim best fits it. this is a man who was born a slave and learned to read and slowly gained his freedom through his friend only to have said friend turn around and use him to become immortal. which ends up not only making hohenheim immortal but also killing his entire civilization. he is then forced to live with the many people of xerses inside him who lost their lives while he tries to grapple with his own reality.

- over time, he meets everyone inside him and tries to give them everything they want or need to make up for it while also still honoring them. but then, hohenheim meets and falls in love with trisha elric. he doesn't even fully see himself as a person, yet here he is falling for a woman who by all accounts is perfect (as told exclusively through ed, al, and hohenheims persepective). he doesn't think he's worthy of love or can have children, not wanting to spread his curse onto others and fearing he may have already done so. he then had to leave his home to go and try to help save amestris because his old pal is trying to destroy it, meaning he has to abandon his family, one that he said in the past he'd like to have, to save everyone. which only ends up making his sons lives more complicated.

- hohenheim is on the constant end heartbreak and love, almost mourning it before it begins. and him specifically leaving to go and try and save amestris is somewhat reminiscent of tis the damn season as in that song the narrator, dorthoea, leaves home to chase their dreams but leaves the love of their life and neither is ever able to move on from the other.

- i ran out of other ways to describe it because i'm kinda tipsy, but DO YOU GET WHAT IM SAYING???? LIKE DO YOU SEE THE PARALLELS BETWEEN THE TWO???

- i'm going to end this here cause i'm afraid this means that dorothea is now about hohenheim and that's just a funny thought to me

- anyway i'd like to dedicate this section to my beloved mutual alex (@roberrtphilip) cause if it wasn't for him sexualizing that old man i would've never put two and two together. so congrats buddy, you get the prestigious honor of having your favorite character be my favorite taylor swift album AND heavily connected to my favorite song of all time, tis the damn season. i cannot honor someone more than this. so thank you for your service 🫡

This is a bracket to determine which of the many memorable NPCs from across the Professor Layton games are the greatest.

GAMES INCLUDED: Every game except LBMR. Eternal Diva characters are also not included here.

WHAT COUNTS AS AN NPC?: Anyone who doesn't have a puzzle animation. Characters excluded are Layton, Luke, Flora, Clive, Emmy, Randall, Aurora, Des, Espella, Phoenix, Maya, Katrielle, Ernest, Sherl, Hastings, and Emiliana.

WILL THERE BE NOMINATIONS?: Nope! Every NPC will be included.

WHAT ABOUT THE LAYTONMOBILE/MOLENTARY EXPRESS?: No vehicles. Not characters.

WHAT ABOUT THE PUZZLE LADS/LASSES?: I only plan on including characters that we can speak to in-game, so no Puzzle Lads or Lasses. Sorry to the people who like them 😔

WHY IS NAIYA YOUR ICON?: In my opinion, she's one of the more underrated NPCs of the series. I'll probably cycle through some of the ones I have available to me right now.

WHAT CRITERIA SHOULD I VOTE ON?: Whatever makes you happy :)

ARE ALTER EGOS SEPERATE CHARACTERS?: No. For instance, Ratman is not included because his secret identity is in the tournament.

US OR UK NAMES?: I will try to make available as many names for the NPCs as possible! Which includes their Japanese names and as many names in the localizations as I am able to obtain from the wiki and my own sources. I'll probably reliably have the English (both versions where applicable), Japanese, and French names for every character when I do the bracket rounds. The list below however is entirely in English.

Hello, all! Welcome to kaleidoscope, my weird little Taylor Swift fanfiction project. Basically, this is "what if the betty/cardigan/august love triangle was actually the entire folklore and evermore albums?".

To be honest, I'm not even that huge a swiftie, but this is what happened to my brain when I first heard folklore - it's so rich, from a storytelling perspective, that I couldn't help but want to do something with it.

So here we are! Kaleidoscope - not anything to do with the Netflix miniseries (I actually came up with the title long before I ever knew that was a thing), but a collection of chapters following the lives of Betty, James, and Inez, each one based around a song from either folklore or evermore.

Just to get a few things cleared up:

These won't be full out, regular chapters, but short vignettes, accompanied by a moodboard and the corresponding song, because it's just a snapshot of that point in the character's life, not a full description of everything that's going on - I wanted to try and translate the same vibes of the albums and of listening to the songs that way.

This will be non-linear storytelling - it won't follow the character's lives chronologically, but instead by the track order of the original albums. It's kind of like a puzzle, where each next chapter, each snapshot, reveals more of the full picture. Once it's all posted, though, I'll fill in the links for a chronological viewing of the chapters, if you want an easier understanding of it.

Finally, yes, I know Inez isn't originally the name of the other girl in the love triangle, it's meant to be a whole other character, and I do include that in the story, but the very simple explanation is - I like the name, and I wanted to use it.

Also, while the main story is just these 34 chapters, I might, in the end, write some bonus chapters, just because I really love this story and these characters, so let me know if you'd be interested in reading that.

Day 9 of The Tortured Poets Department countdown which means we are headed back to the woods for Evermore

Just when we thought Taylor couldn’t shock us anymore, she releases yet another surprise album, all within the same year. Folklore’s sister album continues the whimsical and ethereal storytelling of folklore but while still having its own unique feel and identity; it’s the winter to folklore’s summer. It also continued the amazing collaborative work of Taylor with Aaron Dessner, making it clear he was here to stay. This album also led to some of the most anticipated fan moments during The Eras Tour, screaming the bridge of Champagne Problems and shining the lights for Marjorie. Although it is referred to as the ‘forgotten album’ by some, it has proven to be yet another piece of Taylor’s discography which has cemented her as the legendary artist and songwriter she is and will always be known as, forever and evermore.
