Hello‚ KuraMonody's author here. First of all thanks for mentioning Hasani in that hyena character post, it made me really happy :3
I wanted to jump in this lion "discourse" because I'm salty haha. I only have watched a few clips of My Pride but never fully watched because I picked up some red flags even before the drama came out so I'm surprised it was promoted as "realistic" lion media. I Hope So handles the same concept way better I think.
I'm getting off track here‚ what I wanted to say is‚ when it comes to lion media I think people tend to be obsessed with the idea that it should be 100% realistic even if what they believe is actually fake. If people belive MP is accurate then they will stick to MP. There's a pattern to this‚ with TLK for example‚ there's this wild belief that Scar/ Mufasa's is 100% Nala father or that Scar should be the atractive one of the brothers even tho those movies are about singing lions and you can tell it's purely fictional‚ but for some reason people are convinced some stuff should be super accurate to real life.
Then there's the fake widely known facts. I got a bunch of comments about how male lions don't hunt even tho they DO and they were nomads so it's logical that they would hunt. People tend to have those facts as completely true‚ just like saying hyenas are pure scavengers or something. Also they once forget things can be different in xenofiction.
I think another problem that contributes to the Tau slander is that the lion is a symbol of strenght. The King of the Jungle‚ all that thing. Is such an ideolized animal that people just get pissy when someone like Tau gets introduced. It also doesn't help that sensitive‚ anxious and shy male characters are seen as weak and not desirable which is totally stupid. I have watched a lot of comments insulting male characters like that‚ also complaining about why a strong girl would like that kind of male character even tho having a good heart should be enough. So between Tau being a lion and a shy male character‚ he gets double hate.
This is all kinda sad honestly.
Thanks for reading all of this if you did‚ I only have a fandom account so that's why Im going anon. I had to spit out my frustration.
Yo! I had to mention Hasani, he is such a cute character. I love him!
As for the whole realism stuff, I think people consider My Pride as "realistic" is mostly because of how brutal it can be if you ignore the advertising. Whenever fans defend the "realism", they mostly mention the infanticide and act like people can't question it's inclusion or think it doesn't make sense considering the circumstances and kind of ignore everything else. I seen this a lot with DetectiveCalico's review of the show as well as one of the shitposts of Proud killing the cubs while the lionesses shrug. Personally, I am not bothered by the fact that infantcide was included in the story in general ( and also I would be a massive fucking hypocrite if I did), but mostly on HOW it's presented in the story that bugs me more than anything.
I honestly don't care if things aren't 100% realistic ( I'm not 17 anymore) because let's face it, you HAVE to take liberties in order to tell a story. I try to get as much accurate behavior and information as I can in my comic because hyenas are some amazing creatures, but it's not gonna be 100% realistic because let's face it, a lot of shit that happens in Tofauti Sawa wouldn't happen in real life and I have kind of broken out of certain things over the years because I am not nearly as jaded as I used to be. Tofauti Sawa is actually the only story I want to do that operates like this. But I feel like if you are gonna have a completely fantasy story like My Pride that features things like actual goddesses, curses, and lion gods controlling the weather-the creator really should act like this is some grounded realistic story because it isn't but you have now bought attention to how the lions and their behavior is gonna be portrayed and people will most likely point it out when it's incorrect. I think this is pretty much why I tend to rag on The Lion Guard whenever it tries to be educational but would then get it's information incorrect. "Common Knowledge really." is so funny when Ono says something wrong. lol
(I had another whole ass example right here but decided to remove it because this post is getting too long.)
Though I must point out no matter what, people will often question things in universe or point out things related to the real life animal to how they are shown in fiction- it's pretty unavoidable but I don't think a majority of people are being malicious about it and treat it more like trivia than anything at least I hope. Like how Clownfish work in comparison to Finding Nemo for example. Some people will mention that while also being aware that there is no fucking way they are gonna put parent-child incest in this movie for the sake of "realism".
And honestly, I never really thought of Tau's species being a contributing factor to the whole thing other than the whole "role" aspect of it all. So that is another interesting way to look at it.
But yeah, thank you so much for your insight and input on the matter and keep up good work with the comic!

@royalreef said: headcanon + zombology (zombie biology) for brian! muse headcanons → accepting
oh boy. this one is a tough one.
there’s so many different portrayals of how zombie’s come to be and how they act and yada yada american media going feral. my portrayal is more focused on how human bodies aren’t all the same, and often times, while a similar reaction to a sickness is common, not everyone experiences the same effects 100%.
a zombie virus outbreak could technically go unnoticed, at least for a long time, since effects wouldn’t be instant and immediately turn the victim into a mindless cannibal. while a cannibal is definitely the final outcome. also pardon if this turns out very choppy and all over but im not very good at smoothly typing thoughts i just go feral.
anyway in brian’s case, the infection only began to take effect when he was already mere moments from dying, so he himself didn’t actually experience any of it. he simply woke up with no memory of who he was, or what life had been before.
Tumblr media
for a dying human to be infected, their ‘death’ doesn’t end the transformation of their mind. so no cheating your way out by shooting yourself or shooting your friend to end their misery. you’ll just end up giving them or yourself a funky wound once woken up.      when a human dies while the virus has already started to set in, their death is basically a factory reset of their brain. clean slate, distant feelings of familiarity to certain things, but absolutely no memories what-so-ever. this can typically be a worse fate than just staying alive until your body adjusts, since you will forget your family, your friends, and yourself, putting those you loved in danger if they weren’t turned as well.
          poor brian’s family, amiright?
for a human to be healthy, or not on the brink of death while infected, they are fully aware of this slow desire to, well, eat those who they considered ‘fellow humans.’ it’s not a sudden flipped switch into immediately wanting to kill and devour everyone around them, but a gradual and nagging urge. if not treated or sated (easily done with red meats or raw meat from an animal), it can spiral into the person becoming mindless and violent, like most zombie media portrays.      the reason i mentioned a dead human turning is worse than a healthy/injured human turning, is because once the newly turned zombie wakes up, they are starving. starved and in need of food to make up for all the energy the virus took up completely restructuring the entire layout of the bodies cells. and with no memory of even being anything other than a creature that needs to eat other creatures... well, it wouldn’t be pretty.
Tumblr media
a humans brain after being completely reset by the virus can go into a sort of... hibernation state if the human hasn’t eaten another human or living creature for a while. not completely shutting down, but more so going numb. senses dull and the nagging hunger lessens with that dulling! so after long enough, a zombie can no longer feel that desire to eat, and instead just wander aimlessly, eating whatever it wants and romancing its classmates.           (wow that explains why brian seems so laid back and deadpan about so much huh)
the final topic i’ll touch on is healing/wounds! on brian’s sprite there’s a bunch of scars and missing skin, so it can be assumed that the virus doesn’t heal wounds! in brian’s case, all the scars you see on him are ones he got from right before his ‘death.’ any wounds that he gains now can easily be sewn shut, this relating to limbs as well! with more intense injuries (like his jaw snapping off), he’d need the aid of a magic user. or a wacky adventure accompanied by his friends.       i referenced this headcanon in my recent thread with pasttorn’s damien, mentioning that brian would prefer not to have any of his skin burned off! this is because he can’t easily reattach burnt parts of him, since that scorches the cells and makes them incompatible to reconnect. most other injuries he can simply piece himself back together with enough hard work.
wow i went apetit on this. pretty sure i missed a few points too so if i remember them i’ll make a separate post LMAO

What is Darkiplier doing?
So there’s one thing that really stumps me when it comes to the lore behind Asshole/Actor Mark and Darkiplier, and it is why is Dark so out for Mark?
We know a few things for certain on this:
We know that, as Mark said himself during a livestream, that Dark is jealous of Mark’s success, which is strange and vague I think.
We know that Darkiplier is a combination on Damien, Celine, and the House, and that the House manifestated itself in Darkiplier. It used Actor Mark during this time as a pawn.
We know that Actor Mark doesnt really know what Darkiplier is, and that Actor Mark doesnt know that he was manipulated by the House.
We know that Darkiplier wants control over Mark and more than likely over the channel.
We know neither Dark nor Actor Mark can die forever. They can die, but they’ll always come back to life. ( https://markiplierloretheories.tumblr.com/post/177398851380/deaths-of-characters )
We also know Darkiplier is a powerful creature, able to manipulate reality and threaten, but,,,
OH MY GOD I JUST REALIZED
We’ve never seen Darkiplier ever actually touch or hurt another character. It’s almost like he can only scare and bring people into his own pocket dimension (“the upside down”). He can manipulate, threaten, put on a show, and possible possess people, but that’s it. Unlike Wilford and literally any other one of Markiplier’s characters, he’s never on screen been shown to be able to hurt or kill anyone.
Could it be that he literally can’t, and that he’s still too far into the other dimension, and that his current appearance that we see is still more of a projection? I mean this would explain his connection to the RGB coloring instead of CMYK, b/c light and how we see light is very important.(explained fully here:
https://markiplierloretheories.tumblr.com/post/177498273905/markiplierloretheories )
Maybe he’ll never be able to touch anyone, and LIKE MARKIPLIER, THE ONE WE KNOW, HE WANTS TO TOUCH THE SOULS OF THE VIEWERS. Except in an evil, dangerous way. Because like @fischyplier said in this post :
https://markiplierloretheories.tumblr.com/post/177831916030/a-theory-i-thought-of-at-5-in-the-morning
Actor Mark may not actually be an evil person, just portrayed as such by Darkiplier to try and get us to sympathize with Dark.
Tumblr media
If he’s got no real effect on reality and all he can do to kill people is make people kill themselves (just like he got Actor Mark to kill himself before WKM), then maybe if his goal is to take Markiplier’s position on youtube isnt such a dumb one. I mean Mark sees how we view him. He sees us tell him how much he means to us and how he has helped us. He knows this and may be turning Dark into the opposite of himself: someone who doesnt wanna see us live, thrive, and enjoy life. But rather someone who wants to take those who are emotionally vanurable and turn them against themselves, to kill people without raising a finger. I mean this is some real freaking psychological shit we are getting into but it makes sense. I mean think of Darkiplier in “A Date With Markiplier” (ADWM), in it it’s like he’s trying to finally trap you in his world. And we see this happen a lot with him. When he appears, his presence literally drowns out everything else, pulling you into his pocket dimension (upside down) just enough to keep you there, fascinated by him, many of you not wanting to leave (bc yall freaking love him and that’s legit what he wants).
I mean why else would he want to take what Mark has? There is no sign of past grievances between the two. (As in it doesnt look like a revenge plot) And there is no sign that Dark is just trying to hurt Mark. If he was just trying to hurt or kill Mark for good Im sure he would have done it by now (theyve had many run ins and Mark is never protected). Dark just seems to want what Mark has so he can hurt what Mark has: us.

to fit into society, what must one do? How must one act? how must they feel? must they be like everyone else, with the same wants and desires? do they have to be raised the same?what norms do they have to meet? so often in the media are we told that its love that makes us human, and our want for someone to spend our life with is was drives us forward, and what defines our humanity. ‘we are not just featherless bipeds’ they say ‘we are loving creatures who want to love’, but what if we love wrongly? in a way that society doesn't accept? what if we dont love at all and dont want to? Do we just have to accept our place as outcasts of society? but what if, furthermore, we simply dont know how, because its been buried along with our past, and will never be found again. how does one cope with a past that they cannot even come to terms with? and what if ones wants and desires are so hopelessly pointless that theyve been buried too?      there are many things i dont know, and there are also things i do not wish to know. However, some of the things i do not know and do not want to know are things that society thinks are important, and some of the things i am, society shuns.       though its become more acceptable in recent years, being gay in most societies is still a problem. they wish for gays to be like them, to fit in their box, and assimilate into their standards so that its more palatable for them. many heterosexual people who advocate for gay rights want this too, saying that were just like them, and we shouldnt be treated differently, but always there is the question of kink at pride, with many people arguing that it isnt family friendly, so it shoudnt be allowed. but families arent friendly to gays, often shunning or kicking out their non hetnorm children, casting them out, treating the like lesser beings, abominations, broken. this experience is so common that “queer people dont grow up as ourselves, we grow up playing a version of ourselves that sacrifices authenticity to minimize humilation and prejudice. the massive task of our adult lives is to figure out what parts of us are really use, and which weve created to protect ourselves.” - alexander leon.      this is what ive done, raised a false personality, one that i cant separate myself from, so that i can try and be safe, and try and resemble normalcy, so now im left to suffer until i become to be in a place that is safe for me to live who i truly feel to be. this is the acceptance that so many ally advocates call for, but this isnt acceptance; its assimilation. its telling queer people that we have to fit in with everyone else, and to drop whatever part of us that doesnt. not only does this hurt the community as a whole, but it removes entire portions from it, ranging from the aspec community to the swaths of people who use neopronouns, discounting and invalidating their feelings and opinions, telling them that not only will they not be accepted, but that they dont even belong, because they do not fit in with that the heteronormative precident calls for.      but the worst of it is that so many people within the community just accept that we have rights, not looking around them and seeing that just because they have rights, doesnt mean the work is done and that its party time the struggles of so many communities are undercut because rights for some of us were secured, but rights aren't all thats needed. acceptance, especially for those pushed furthest out, have yet to be fully achieved.      for some groups, like the aspec community, acceptance has only just begun for some parts of the community. seeing someone whos ace portrayed in the media is a rare occasion, but someone whos aro? rarer, and more often malicious. they see as as inhuman, lacking our sense of humanity, and decided for us that we dont belong in the respectable parts of society, pushing us out and treating us very, very poorly. its because of this that certain things were created.       the aesthetic of voidpunk was created by and aro, and describes the aro experience of society better than i could. it is defined as “a subculture among dehumanized groups that is normally described as the rejection of the human identity, and embracing being nonhuman. Both go along with applying those concepts to one's self, as a way of getting back at the dehumanization society has applied to them… It is exclusively for groups and individuals who face dehumanization from society”. while it is open to far more than just people on the aspec, it helps explain just to what extent we are not valued by the society at large, explaining that we are dehumanized, and for what? simply because we don't feel the same as everyone else, so we cannot be human.

“It’s ‘im wot did it officer, that bluddy dragon!”
An Autistic Dragon?
It's interesting, innit? Why an autistic dragon? I wanted to write a post about the title of my blog for... a good many reasons. Catharsis is amongst them, I felt like writing something very personal about myself, and it's a little apropos of kerfuffly doings of late. Drama, dogma, & dragons. What have I learned? I can't say that neurotypicals make for particularly convincing dragons, that's for certain. I believed that one area where I might be able to bond with an NT is over dragons, so that's where I began to look for one that might be possessed of a wee bit more self awareness than I'm used to witnessing from NTs. What it did was help to solidify my emotional connection with dragons, and to add further detail to those thoughts. Why is a dragon a dragon? Why do dragons do what dragons do? Why are NTs drawn to them for all the wrong reasons? And is that what gave rise to the ridiculous parody of dragons in contemporary NT-focused media? These are fun questions! Invigorating, even. I want to talk about them! I like questions! I'm not even going to draw your own conclusions for you, either. I just want to ask more questions. So why does a dragon, dragon? In other words, why does a dragon do the things it does? So let's look at that, eh? Can we say that dragons, in general, are closer to us on the sapience scale than the majority of animals? If so, why would such a creature spend their life hiding in a cave? You see, if the dragon was an NT I'm quite certain they'd be attending balls and haute couture shindigs. They're not, though, are they? The dragon is portrayed as being uncertain around humans, unsure, and perhaps even a little afraid despite their immense power. Can we blame them? How many dragons have had to put up with a bunch of scruffy brigands bursting into their lair and attempting to kill them for their hoard under the manufactured pretence of heroism? Humans are greedy, after all. So if a dragon claims possession over desirable shiny wot them rich people might like, well, it's only fair to spread some rumours about the dragon's villainy, eh? The dragon isn't like 'us,' you see, so the people aren't going to bother questioning these rumours, it's more than likely true that the dragon is doing these things "Right bluddy suspect if you ask me, 'iding owt int' cave up there. I mean, woss 'e up to then, eh? Plannin' our bloomin' demise if you ask me! I says we kill 'em 'fore 'e kills us!" Now replace dragon with Muslims. If you're especially alt-right inclined and you believe in white genocide, then you'll want to be replacing dragon with Jews. Yeah. An NT dragon is sort of like an honest politician. It may actually exist, but it's so rare that the chances of us ever finding one are so improbable that we might as well deem it statistically impossible. You see, even if they experience prejudice, people on the neurotypical spectrum tend to turn around and hate other people just as much. Trans-exclusionary feminists, gay people turning against transgender people, et cetera. And when they haven't even experienced a whit of prejudice? Not a modicum? Not even a tiny, wee amount? That's what brings about the alt-right. You see, the fellow who fancied himself as a dragon was like that. Straight, white, cis-gendered, of able body and mind, quite well off, and without a care in the world. This sorry bastard genuinely believes that the pushback against his own prejudices against the 'lesser tribes' is a prejudice in and of itself. He actually believes he's experienced prejudice. I had to have a bit of a giggle. When I asked this fellow what he liked about dragons? It was that they were powerful, of course. An apex predator. It's funny because that's not really what dragons are, are they? Often, they're brought low by a group of four humans in silly attire, as they have so little fight left in them. I think that dragons are as tired of a world so chock-full of parasites as I am. It's easy to just give up. I wouldn't be surprised if that's how every NT views dragons. It explains how we went from Dragonheart and Flight of Dragons to Skyrim and Game of Thrones, doesn't it? And the less they're able to be articulate, soft spoken, and empathetic the better. Why else amputate a dragon's forelegs? Remove her hands and she can't emote any longer, easier to portray her as an engine of sheer destruction then. I think that's why we have this ridiculous parody of dragons now, right? In Skyrim, Game of Thrones, and others. It's because of this perception of dragons that NTs have, that they're only appreciated for their power. Initially, religion had the NTs hate dragons as instruments of the devil so the niche of non-NT spectrum people who enjoyed them didn't have to worry, but as religion wanes they're entering into the NT consciousness. S'funny really because the Celtic peoples (hello, I'm from Cymru!) loved dragons. They believed that they were innately lovely, wonderful, and kind. Until Christianity twisted that. Not 'us' you see. So dragons continue to be altered to be more applicable to what the NT crowd wants of them, either as allies or as enemies. Dragons are creatures of power; Alien, cold, and vile. That's what the NT acquaintance liked about them, and what he thought was worth emulating. That's not a dragon, silly. That's another toxic construct of the 'alpha' philosophy. I'm 'an' autistic dragon as I'm sure there are other otherkin out there who're not on the neurotypical spectrum who'd be fully as able as I to be at least a little bit authentically dragon, as they'd understand what makes for a dragon. A dragon is a non-human being, old as the hills, and as wise as so much time has allowed them to be. They're gentle, kind, thoughtful, and poetic, but also tragic in how they're demonised just for being different. Because seriously, for every group of adventurers that bursts into their lairs with claims of wrongdoing, I'd want to see the bloody evidence. These fantasy worlds need police departments. I would be a dragon detective! I want to write a series of stories about being a 'Fantastic Crimes Division' detective now, the kind of person who investigates the kinds of things that people claim dragons do. God damn I want this to exist. What was I talking about? Oh. Right. Neurotypicals aren't convincing dragons as they're effectively the antithesis thereof. Their mindset is contrary to what a dragon is, after all. That's why I'm going to stick to autistic otherkin from now on, they get it. An autistic dragon because I've never seen an NT one.
