MADI MADI MADI whos ur fav mighty nein characters/rank them :0!!
*Cracks knuckles* Okay so to preface this, I love all of the Mighty Nein. Absolutely love all of them, it is my comfort D&D Campaign along with other D&D campaigns like Misfits & Magic or Escape from the Bloodkeep like it is the first D&D campaign I finished and it makes me so emotional to think about them. I almost have all their origin comics (I need Caduceus' to arrive in the mail (HE'S ON HIS WAY I GOT THE EMIAL NOW) and then I'm set unless we get an Essek one.)
But like in Terms of my favorites? I am a Strong Caleb Widogast, Essek Thelyss, Jester Lavorre, and Caduceus Clay enjoyer.
My love for Caleb started because he had a cat man. I love cats, and so of course I was immediately intrigued AND THEN WE GET TO HIS ANGST AND OOOOO- it's also the way his character alignment changes throughout the campaign and how he grows and heals and that concept is what I really love from the Mighty Nein. The way they all grow and become better as the story goes on, especially after Molly like :(
That being said Essek I love because this man committed War Crimes but then is revealed to have no friends and that his favorite food is soup LIKE he's such a good character to show what effect the mighty nein has on people that come into their mists because he was supposed to be an evil NPC, his alignment was/is evil, but the mighty nein (especially Jester) took one look at him and went "you're our friend now!" Like the nein love Essek and are really showing that the power of friendship can in fact be good for you!! Plus his and Caleb's Dynamic is so fun please I love him.
Jester is because she's quite literally me. If I had to pick two people that I probably am out of the Mighty Nein due to just what people have said and my own analysis, Her and Caleb are me coded. She's an Artist! (which I do have Critical role art on here you would just have to find it on here somewhere I haven't drawn the nein in a hot minute-), she's silly, she loves her friends, she's lonely, she's literally me! PLUS THE FACT SHE DOESN'T LIKE HEALING AS A CLERIC IS THE FUNNIEST THING EVER- but when she does heal she is godly at it!! PLUS HER AND ARTY'S WHOLE DEAL, THE WHOLE BELIEVING IN HIM ENOUGH AND HELPING HIM GAIN ENOUGH SUPPORTERS TO BE ELEVATED INTO A FALSE GODHOOD STATUS LIKE IT'S SOOOOOOO- I know it's because Laura wanted to play a Warlock and Travis yoinked that so she didn't BUT OH IT WAS SO FUN TO SEE THAT UNFOLD-
and then Caduceus is because I love Clerics so much. I love playing Clerics, I love watching people play Clerics, just Clerics are high tier for me. (Then again I just love spell casters in general,,, as you can see from this list) but there is something about this Firbolg who just loves his family and was raised in a graveyard and has dead people tea on hand and is just the silliest. He may not be smart but he is wise and his and Fjord's bond while Fjord was trying to find a new patron and Caduceus was like "I think Melora will like you :3" LIKE god their friendship is so fun. PLUS HE'S CANONICALLY AROACE AND LIKE YOU LOVE TO SEE IT!! just god I love the Mighty Nein so much they are everything to me!!
#madi answers#Madi Rambles#I can not rank them because I would feel bad putting any of them in the last slot cause they're all good in their own way#like Nott's whole story and how she was coping like girlie baby#and also Beau's whole story makes me sad LIKE GIRLIE#AND YASHA AAAAAAA Yasha's has a chokehold on me because Grief and Aasimar and finding redemption AND CAN YOU TELL WHAT STUFF I LIKE???#This is part of the reason to never let me talk about Bruce Wayne you'll just get an Essay on Grief and Jay and Ru have already gotten it#I guess my ones I don't brain rot about the most are gonna have to be Nott and Molly but that's because Ru is the Big Molly fan so There's#already brain cells going into that character's lore#and also his jacket (which was not originally his per his origin comic) is so hard to draw it scares me but I love Molly's design so much s#it's a double edged sword#other then that I love them all and any mention of the mighty nein I eat it up so much

Back to the Future Part II, The Novel by Craig Shaw Gardner: Thoughts, commentary, and general ramblings
Part 6: A weird-looking old man and a little guy in a leather jacket.
Previous posts here
• Instead of describing Doc as a “crazy, wild-eyed old man,” Old Biff says, “a weird-looking old man,” which is just so personal, lol
• There’s an interesting scene where Marty is almost caught in Biff’s garage. The shouting between Biff and his grandmother isn’t there to alert Marty, and instead, Biff just walks straight out to the garage. Marty thinks it’s Doc who has come to rescue him and calls out, which Biff hears. Marty then hides in the car, and waits as Biff looks around a bit before getting distracted.
• I really want the full scene of Doc scrambling to get that new hat and bike so he can head over to Biff’s house. The book mentions that he’d bought the bike a few hours prior (then had to wait for it to get dark enough) but I’d love to see how that played out. I also want Marty doing his shopping for his Inconspicuous outfit.
• Marty has a very funny response to Doc reminding him to be careful at the dance since his other self is there with Lorraine. “Yeah, that’s right! Hey, that’s cool, Doc. Maybe I’ll say hello to myself.”
This is followed immediately by, “’No!’ Doc felt like he might have a heart attack.”
And what I want to know is: is Marty just being a wisenheimer, or is he genuinely considering stopping to chit-chat with his other self? I could honestly see it going either way with Marty.
• This chapter is giving me a few good chuckles so far. Marty enters the dance and it says, “He stepped through, and found himself in the same alcove where he’d had that heart-to-heart with his future parents—the one about being nice when your son sets fire to the rug.”
Why don’t we have any definitive information on The Rug Incident? That story should’ve been included in the comics. I need to know what unfolded that day. Why did Marty set the rug on fire? Was it purely accidental? Did little Marty go through an arsonist phase?
I demand answers.
• When we return to Doc, who is still riding his bike all over the place, he ends up at the Peabody farm. There’s a cop there talking to Mr. Peabody, who’s recounting the alien encounter he had. Which…doesn’t make much sense to me since this is a week now since the “flying saucer” originally crashed into his barn. But I guess this has been an ongoing ordeal, and Otis has been trying to get someone to take him seriously.
Anyway, Doc is worried that they might actually stumble upon where he’s hidden the DeLorean behind the billboard, so he goes over and announces that he saw the spacecraft take off wayyy in the other direction. The police officer and Otis immediately take off in search of it.
• I wish I got a dollar for every time in this novel that Marty has said, “Yo, Doc!” because I would have many dollars.
• Lester (Wallet Guy) describes Marty to Biff as, “A little guy in a leather jacket.” So true, Lester. He IS just a little guy in a leather jacket.
• Ok, OK!! So! Two things to mention about the scene after the dance where Marty runs into Biff outside the door. After Biff calls him chicken, Marty once again recalls that, per his mother’s repeated suggestions, he’s supposed to count to 10 when he’s upset. And as he wrestles with his feelings, he thinks, “Maybe he always felt he needed to do this because he was so short.” !!!!! May I direct you to this ask and poll? There you have it, folks. Marty (book Marty, at least) is quite aware of his height and ALSO aware that it might be the reason he wants to fight at the slightest provocation.
• I already always feel bad for the Western Union guy when I watch the movie, and this makes me feel even more sorry for him. He gets no closure!!! He will NEVER know what the 70-year-old mystery letter was all about. The most disappointed voice Marty has ever heard!!
• We close with the scene of Marty running back to the clock tower. However, his revealing his presence to Doc is pretty different in the book than it is in the movie. We’re told, “Marty stepped out of the shadow of the courthouse. He tapped Doc on the shoulder.”
I mean. It definitely doesn’t have The Flair of Marty running full speed and dramatically spinning Doc to face him, but it is funny. He just. Steps out from the shadows and gives him a little tap. A gentle, “Um, hi, hello, I’m back.” Amuses me to think about.
This is how I imagine it, btw.
• The book ends with Doc passing out and Marty legitimately fearing that Doc may have just DIED before his very eyes, and how will he ever get home now?
I guess we’ll find out in the part III novel! Stay tuned.

This isn't technically part of the original comic, but it's plot important enough that I'll include it anyway. Explanation of the timeline is below the cut. .
When Druid is young, he’s basically identical to any other young adult Steven, with the exception of his fluffy goatee. He remains the same biological age for over a hundred years, but since his immediate family isn’t aging much either, it’s not something he’s too worried about. Once he’s over 100, his facial hair varies from clean shaven, to stubble, to a goatee, to anything in between. He gets more piercings and, after the Withering starts, gains consistent eye bags. After 300 or so years, he stops bothering with shaving his facial hair at all and just lets his hair grow, both on his head and on his face. It grows very slowly though. Towards 350 is when he starts getting taller. (For context, when Druid is 20, he’s 6’ 8" - which to be fair, is very tall, but when WTL starts he’s 7’ 8"). It’s such a gradual increase in size that it takes decades for him to notice he’s grown at all. Unbeknownst to him, this is the first symptom of his corruption - his infection with the Withering. Per Connie’s request, he gets rid of any ring-style piercings on his body once the Withering has infected most of the gems; she gets worried that they’ll inevitably get snagged by a corrupted gem and they’ll pull off some of his skin with it. This is also when she starts wearing her hair in a braid. Around 420 years of age (yes haha funny number), Druid gets his first obvious sign of corruption; razor sharp teeth. He manages to hide them for a while, but it doesn’t take long for the lower canines to start sticking out of his mouth when it’s closed. Up until then, he had assumed he was immune to the Withering. His fears only grow once his ears become pink and pointed, and it’s what makes him start wearing the black shawl. His family and who remains of the gems all assure him that things will turn out okay, of course, and while this does little to ease his worries, he stops hiding his ears around them. Over the course of the next several centuries, as his corruption gets worse and his flare-ups become more dangerous to those around him, Druid starts using his diamond powers to help keep his corruption in check. By the time Connie dies, he’s doing it nearly all the time, to the point where its almost subconscious. He wears the shawl consistently now when he’s outside of Beach City, not to hide his corruption scars, but to give him some protection against the altered weather. Once his hair gets long enough, a simple hair band or piece of string won’t hold it together, so he opts to use his pink jacket instead. (It’s not like he’s actually worn it all that often anyway). He eventually stops repairing the star patterns on his shirts, and they slowly wear down to an X shape.

SnakeFace episode 7 script
This is where the script starts to get consistent with the story, so I apologize for any repetitions or confusing elements of the first 6 episode scripts, because (keep in mind) episodes 7-11 are rewrites of the ORIGINAL script. There will be several inconsistencies with the previous script, but not with the comic itself (which I highly recommend reading before reading the script). Thank you
[episode script under cut]
[I'd also like to mention that in the original version of episode 7, Graves called his class "nerd herd."]
Ivan is about to leave, his mother gives him Thomas’ jacket saying he’d want Ivan to have it. Ivan and Kim leave for school.
As Ivan and Kim are talking, Ivan feels as if someone is watching him, a shiver running down his spine. He spins around, catching only a glimpse of dispersing fog. But he swears he saw something, or someone else.
“Ivan, you alright?” Kim asks.
“Yeah…” Ivan turns around. “I just thought I… saw someone.”
Kim, with a worried look on her face, keeps walking, Ivan following along. He said he was fine, but Kim could tell by the shaking that he wasn’t being completely honest.
They arrived at the campus, the grass out on the front lawn was a deep healthy green, large evergreens, and deciduous trees sheltered the building from the rest of the town, lying on the edge just between the city and the woods. He looked at the people; tall, short, thin, wide, pale, dark, masculine, feminine, all things defining humanity and yet… none of them were human. Large disc-like ears, large eyes, more eyes, fewer eyes, tails, more arms, no arms, horns, wings, fur, scales, anything that would normally be used to define anything else other than a human. He finally… belonged. The only thing actually seemed the most mundane there was Kim, and even then he knew she held much more to her character than her appearance.
Ivan then caught the attention of a certain red-haired vampire. He smiled and ran over to the two, the clouds covering the ground so that he could walk among the people.
“Ivan!” He called. “You’re here! So, ya changed your mind, yeah?”
“I did,” Ivan said awkwardly. “It’s weird for me to not have to hide all this.”
He gestured to his upper body. “I figured it would be better for me to try things again rather than to live like a black sheep.”
“I’ve seen far weirder, and grosser, than having the face of a snake. Trust me, Lilli has it far worse than you.”
“Lilli?”
“Don’t worry about it.” Val’s face flattened and he turned to the side. He turned back with a close-mouthed smile. “You better get to class then, wouldn’t want to be late on the first day. And hey,”
He put his hand on Ivan’s shoulder. “If Garroth or anyone else gives you any trouble you tell me. You’ll do fine.”
Ivan nodded. The first bell rang and the three entered the building, heading their separate ways to their classes. Ivan pulled out his phone, pulling up the picture of his schedule he had taken earlier that morning. Right off the bat, he had English. At least it wasn’t math. Their schedules were broken up into five classes per semester, three core classes and two electives, not counting study hall just before lunch, and a different set of classes each term.
“This should be easy,” Ivan muttered, entering the classroom.
<time skip to study hall>
Ivan’s next class was on the second floor of the school in the third building, taking the hallway between the third and middle buildings on the second floor. It was like nothing he’d ever seen at a school, the campus and class levels seeming more like a university or academy than a high school.
His teacher, a man named Graves, introduced him to the class and sent him to find a free seat. He walked into the room marked on his schedule, choosing a seat near the back away from the window.
The teacher began talking, explaining something about a school event for the juniors and seniors, but Ivan was a sophomore so it didn’t apply to him. As he was talking, a girl shrieked and jumped up into her chair. Ivan glanced over.
“Mouse! There’s a mouse on the floor!” She shouted in a high voice. Several other students picked their feet and belongings up off the floor while Ivan, among others, shrugged it off.
“Calm down,” the teacher said. “It’s only a mouse, it won’t bite you.”
“Maybe the snake kid’ll eat it,” one of the other students muttered to his friends, who snickered at the mockery. Ivan buried his face in his arms, trying to shy away. Graves didn’t seem to hear.
When the mouse crawled near the boy and his friends, one of them picked it up and threw it at Ivan. It landed on his desk and he flinched, bolting upright and glaring at the boys, who were audibly laughing. Graves slammed his hands on his desk.
“You four!” He shouted. “I will not be tolerating any sort of mockery, teasing, shaming or other forms of esteem-diminishing harassment to other students in my class. You should all be very ashamed. Outside, now.”
The boys snapped up. “It’s just a joke, we weren’t doing anything wrong-”
“Out. Side. How would you feel if someone were to come along and torment you for who you are? Get out of my class.”
The four boys angrily snatched up their things and left the classroom. Graves sighed heavily and rubbed the bridge of his nose. The bell to start lunch rang, ending the study hall. Ivan was the last one to leave the room, the startled mouse cupped in his hands.
“Ivan,” Graves caught him on his way out. “If there is ever a time someone gives you hell, talk to me. Other teachers may follow common nonviolent school protocol but I don’t give it the time of day. If you have any problems I’ll deal with it, alright?”
Ivan nodded. “What do I do with the mouse?”
Graves held his hands out, Ivan gently passing the small mouse to him. “Don’t worry about it, I’ll take care of things.”
Ivan left the room, heading down to the first floor to look for Kim and Val. He caught sight of the pink and red hair, making his way over, but was stopped by a rather annoying wall of a ghoul; Garroth.
“Hey there little python,” Garroth sneered. “Going somewhere?”
Ivan ducked his head down. “Can you just leave me alone.”
“What’s that? You’re gonna have to speak up.”
“I don’t want to talk to you Garroth.”
Garroth’s grin fell. He reached his hand out to place it on Ivan’s shoulder but another hand quickly grabbed his wrist before he could touch the snake. The black-painted nails and pale skin let Ivan know who it was before he even looked; Val. The vampire pushed himself between Ivan and Garroth, letting go of the ghoul’s wrist.
“Don’t let him touch you, Ivan,” warned the vampire. “If he gets his hand on you he’s able to manipulate your thoughts.”
“Oh, what’s the fun in telling him that,” Garroth loomed over the two.
“He’s a sin ghoul, there are seven styles, one for each deadly sin. Unfortunately, we’re stuck with the worst brand of ‘em, wrath. He can influence anyone he touches to become angry beyond their own will and then he feeds on it, making him stronger.”
Garroth’s lip curled into a snarl, grabbing Val’s collar and pulling him forward. Before he could even say anything Val hissed in his face, head-butting the ghoul. Garroth growled angrily as Val had bought enough time for them to get away. The vampire grabbed Ivan’s arm and ran to hide from the ghoul. Ivan’s eye caught that of a strange girl with bright green hair and strange eyes.
Garroth’s clawed hand reached out for Ivan, just barely missing his jacket before the snake and the vampire disappeared in a cloud of smoke. Ivan shook his head out, clearing the smoke as an upset Kim stood with her arms crossed, eyes black from using magic.
“You are going to be the death of me,” she complained. “Don’t expect me to be here every time you need a quick getaway.”
“I had it covered,” Val shrugged. “We would’ve been fine.”
“Sure, you’re fine now, but it’s when you aren’t that I just know you’ll come to me for help.”
“Relax, Kimber, we trust you. Won’t happen again, promise.”
“Don’t make a promise you can’t keep, Valentine.”
“Hey, easy on the full name.”
“You two seem to get along well already,” Ivan muttered.
“Val and I have like four classes together. Plus after the café, he’s been watching my back to make sure we don’t have any more trouble.
“Guess we weren’t so lucky today.”
“Guess not.”

Note
okay, phucker, do it
ok let's do this @rolli-zolli @ninikins
Horrortale: technically an alternate timeline instead of au. after a neutral run where undyne's queen the core malfunctions and food becomes scarce and people resort to eating humans because sans suggested it. Aliza is the protag. latest thing that happened in the ongoing comic was Aliza agreeing to go with Papyrus to solve his last puzzle. as for the appearance of sans he has a HUGE hole on his head and a red eye. he got the hole from undyne when she got his magic eye which was going to be used to power the core. sans didnt die tho and killed the guards holding him down and just took whatever eye was on the ground and used it as a replacement for his magic eye that's powering the core. i quote first words he said after putting the eye in his socket "who the fuck took my phone?". then the magic eye went apeshit and broke the core again. oh and also he made alphys braindead by quite literally scrambling her brain. yeah this au is rough sans hasn't really eaten anything since the core was destroyed since he decided not to eat any humans.
Dusttale: i think this was originally a korean au? basic rundown: too many genocide runs sans goes apeshit and tries to get his Lv up by killing monsters himself man went fuckin insane kills his brother blah blah blah edgy angsty au the ghost of papyrus haunts him n stuff. sans literally just looks the same except he has his hood on and sometimes artists draw him with papyrus's scarf. the cool artists draw him with his hood on and has the hood completely cover his face so u can only see his glowing pupils. although people call him dust sans he's actually named murder sans
Killer: so frickin similar to dusttale except sans goes apeshit because of the human being like "join me lmao". three different outcomes come from this. i think it was 1 sans joins human 2 sans joins human kills human later on 3 kills human or something. friends with color sans who is basically his impulse control. pretty sure his soul's fucked up and Color sans tries to make his soul un-fucked but Nightmare comes in and fucks up the progress. he has white shorts, his eye sockets are constantly pitch black and leaking tar or something also has a weird target thingy on his chest. OH YEAH ALSO HE HAS BEEF WITH UNDERSWAP SANS ALMOST FORGOT. basically swap sans tried to make killer good and then they had a fight, swap sans lost and was on the verge of dying thankfully swap papyrus was able to save him in time i think
Dreamtale: Dream isn't in the drawing but his brother, Nightmare is. Sooo he used to not look all goooy and have tentacles n stuff but then he ate a couple hundred apples and yeah. he's six years old apparently. Nightmare and Dream are supposed to be guardians of a tree that has 500 golden apples and 500 black n goopy apples. the golden aples are positive and the goop ones are negative. you're not supposed to eat either of them cus bad shit happens. Dream and Nightmare live in a village and for whatever reason they're all dicks to Nightmare because ooughh he's the guardian of negativity that's not baller. he also goes apeshit (do u see a pattern here) and eats a goopy apple n then becomes the goop man he is today. he fuckin eats 999 apples jesus christ. and the last one is eaten by Dream because if u eat all 1000 apples u become unstoppable and immortal. so that would be a bad thing if nightmare got the last one. wop wop wop these dude aren't sanses they only have the body of one if that makes sanse.
Error: manlet. he's literally an error and that's why he's like that. also he's technically not a sans now, the redesign for him was so that he could be in the creator's webcomic named Lucidia. Error sans, aka the destroyer of aus, finds aus to be mistakes so he tries to get rid of them. his process of doing this is simple: get the human soul to the void so that they can't reset, destroy the au. he primarily attacks using his strings which can wrap around one's soul and control them. he like some aus like outertale because of how open and empty it is. he likes to be alone and has haphephobia. if u touch him he'll glitch out and possibly crash. he crashes whenever gets overwhelmed. said crashing causes him to shut down and reboot and he's powerless while doing so. he's actually pretty easy to beat if you know how to push his buttons the right way. in the og ask error blog made by his creator Loverofpiggies he kidnaps Swap sans who tries to help Error become a better person. this ends horribly as error leaves Swap sans in the void who then becomes an error aswell due to being alone in the void too long. Error actually regrets doing that to swap sans
Aftertale: OK FUN FACT THE SANS OF THIS AU, WHO'S NICKNAMED "Geno" IS ERROR. aftertale is a comic made by LoverofPiggies it's been SOOOO long since i last read it so i cant really give a good summary. but anyways Geno is trapped in the loading screen with the human and will die if he leaves the loading screen. eventually from being in the loading screen for too long after the events of aftertale he becomes Error.
OOF WOWIE THERE'S SO MUCH TO GO
Underfresh: he's not even a sans either. "Fresh" is a parasite inhabiting a skeleton. his birthday is on 4/20 which is ironic cus he doesn't like drugs. he censors swears. he speaks 90's lingo and dresses like a neon sign. for some reason he has eyebrows and a gold tooth. the glasses he has can change text but normally defaults to "YOLO". he can't feel anything since he has no soul of his own and just latches onto the host's. instead he learns how to act from the people around him. not being able to feel actually bothers him a LOT
Echotale: Aka Gaster sans. uhhh this one was also a comic if i remember correctly. basically Frisk and G!Sans are the only ones in the au and they're trying to find the core to fix the fucked up timeline that they're in but the core keeps changing positions so that sucks.
Swapfell: originally made by Khhoppang who left social media. Started out as an Alphys x Undyne au so only those two were designed but Kh was planning to design more of the characters. before they could people had a field day with the idea of mashing two aus together and SO many people came up with their own designs for sans and papyrus. Khhoppang left social media because they got overwhelmed with all the art reposters and stuff, pretty sad. the appearance of the sans in that au is the purple one with a scythe (i dont think he has a scythe in the og design).
Swapfell Red: so basically this is the swapfell made by people that isn't Khhoppang. community made per se. Sans's appearance changes constantly because as said before many people made many different designs. typically he just looks like Swap sans but with red high heel boots and his color scheme fits underfell
Fellswap (gold): Au made by blackggggum. so swapfell is underswap turned fell, fell swap is underfell swapped it takes a bit to understand that. his appearance is somewhat similar to Swapfell red. He's kind to his friends but if ur his enemy he'll fucking deck you. he's blind in his left eye, the leader of the royal guard, and secretly into dressmaking. fun fact in this au Papyrus has autism
Xtale: uuuuhhhh so Cross is a complicated one. he's part of the royal guard along with papyrus. has beef with xgaster. responsible for the downfall of his au and then Underverse happens and Ink is all "oh cool someone to mess with" and they became friends for a bit then shit hit the fan
Underfell: OOOOO YES UNIRONICALLY ONE OF MY FAVORITES. So Underfell sans is actually a very powerful mf and constantly has his magic eye activated because he has so much magic. This au is also technically an alternate timeline where monsters "lost their humanity" as the creator put it. so basically trust in the underground is scarce. Sans and papyrus, contrary to many interpretations i fucking hate, are actually on good terms (and no sans doesn't call papyrus "boss" the creator said if he does he'd do it ironically and papyrus would hate it). Fun facts he pays Grillby in socks (grillby accepts the socks as payment and wears them), if u make grillby laugh he gives u a jacket that looks like his and it's heavily implied that sans made him laugh because their jackets are similar
Underswap: ah yes another classic that i love as well. originally made by PopcornPr1nce who fled social media because they hated how the majority fandom treated Underswap (Blueberry and Carrot were popular names for the fanon swap papyrus and sans). Swap sans is constantly infantilized by the community which sucks and i hate it so i draw my own very super cool version of him whom i kin because i am also very super cool.
Outertale: mainly an aesthetic au pretty sure there's no comic of it. basically, instead of underground they in space. outer sans dies in underverse after like minutes of screentime lmao
Epictale: a comic made by Yugogeer. the og comic was retconned and the creator loathes the original version and made a reboot that's much better. Sans actually dies very early in it because Yugo hates how Sans is almost always focused on in aus. also the creator hates how meme-y their sans has become (like him saying bruh every single sentence, using a rubber chicken as a weapon, cookies, etc.) he's friends with Cross but not in canon. He has a purple magic eye that makes him immortal and i think only epic gaster could remove it which is how sans was able to be killed when he fought gaster.
Temmietale: it's undertale but everyone is temmie, don't question it
Trainertale: it's undertale but it's Pokemon, don't question it
Dancetale: it's undertale but you dance instead of fight, don't
Mobtale/Mafiatale: im unsure if mobtale and mafiatale are separate or not but they are very similar. basically undertale but mafia it's self explanatory
Undertale: no clue which au is this one, nope not at all/j
Bittytale or whatever idk: so take sans, make him small. boom. never understood this au
THAT BASTARD INK: HOOO BOY SAVED THE WORST FOR LAST. FUCK THIS GUY/j. THIS DUDE. IS THE REASON IM STILL INTO UNDERTALE AUS. I LOVE EM SO MUCH. also technically not a sans. He comes from an unfinished au and ripped his own soul to escape said au and became an outcode. for so long he was just a soulless husk until someone drew him and he got splashed with paint which let him feel. soon he learned to keep the paint in vials so that he can be able to feel 24/7. And then he learned how to create things with a paintbrush and the paint and spent time alone drawing up his own world until a portal appeared and took him to the multiverse. now he encourages artists to keep creating aus. he's the protector of aus in the sense that he keeps other outcodes from disrupting the script of the au, so if it's pacifist and an outcode tries to kill people he'd stop them, if it's genocide and an outcode tried to help them he'd stop them. no matter what he wants the au to stay on script. fun fact the creator of ink and the creator of error never had them interact with each other in canon, that was all the fandom's doing. Contrary to popular belief he's not really considered "good" his alignment is officially "Chaotic neutral". I personally interpret him a lot more chaotic than in canon because it's fun but he's a pretty chill guy actually. he can just be a bit of an ass sometimes. According to the creator of Ink (who is Comyet) his interpretation in Underverse is not canon compliant. one of the biggest canon things that underverse contradicts is Ink deliberately not taking his vials. if he were to do that in canon he'd become a husk again which is the equivalent of him "dying". he was described as a walking corpse by Comyet, without the vials he can't function anymore. Like Error he's pretty easy to beat if you know his weaknesses. also he has fears of empty spaces and being alone
off topic kinda but i very much love how Error and Ink are opposites yet parallel even though they were completely written without the other in mind. Error believes getting rid of aus is getting rid of anomalies. Ink believes people interfering with aus are anomalies. Error loves emptiness, Ink hates emptiness. list goes on it's funky fresh.

How do you picture all of the bat boys? Like do they all have black hair and blue eyes to you? Also, what are your thoughts on Jason having red hair but dying it?
Hey luv <3 You are a literal deity for sending me this ask, just know that.
- Dick has brown hair, yet a brown so that you think it’s black, but in the sunlight, it looks a very deep shade of brown. You won’t notice unless you’re looking for that specifically. His skin tone to me will always be like this tone, perhaps a little lighter (honestly don’t @ me because i keep reading comics and dick is literally white so my brain just did that thing in which it lets itself be lied to), and he’s been whitewashed for literally 80 years but i stick hard to my idea. His eyes are blue, just blue. Not like... specks of white or green or anything like that. They’re just a blue that he really isn’t conscious of, but it’s also a specific shade of blue (this up to your own imagination), yet not enough so you can name it, but enough so you can recognize it. Anywhere. To me, Dick has dimples. I just know this. Also vvv nice eyebrows and eyelashes. I would literally sell my soul to have Dick’s eyelashes.
- I still can’t decide on Jason. I just can’t do it. On one side, there’s blond jason todd that was also from the circus or something like that, and he’s from the 80s and pre-crisis (whatever that means) and a writer admitted that he forgot that jason’s hair color so really this is a whole mess. And Red-haired Jason is a gorgeous idea! But if anything were to be, I’d say that Jason has red hair, but it tilts more into the auburn side. Like bart’s hair color, but a bit more red. Yet I canon Jason with naturally black hair, this literally black and pitch black over and over, perhaps once brown then dyed???? and then maybe with the lazarus something happened and... I don’t know. Honestly. But Jason with black hair is what I lean onto, so that.
There’s also the white strip of hair. At first I was thinking it came from stress, because it happens, but then everyone went with lazarus and stuff, so i just shut up. And honestly the white strip i headcanon it to be really faint at first, like whatever happened in the lazarus, and jason used to be super self-conscious about it, because people would look at him like just one more freak that came back from the dead (don’t ask me who becaus i won’t know what to tell you). So he was on his way to get hair dye (the confectionery’s store iykyk), to cover it up, and he was checking out the things, with the hood of his jacket covering it up, and the girl behind the counter, probably the daughter of the owner, or someone (she didn’t look a day beyond 13), she made this comment on how cool Jason’s hair was and why he didn’t accentutate it more (with bleach). And this lifted Jason’s spirit, so he go the bleach, even though he just assumed that the girl was making propaganda for the bleach (which cost more than the hair dye). So anyways, that’s my headcanon on the white strip of hair, and I just think that the little comment that made him change his mind, just changed a lot of things for him, and with accentuating the white strip of hair, Jason started accepting who he was and stuff.
His eyes (to me) will be blue. I have this headcanon in which pre-death, Jason had birth marks and moles, his lips parted when he relaxed, his nose lost the delicate shape it used to have. He had a mole (as i just mentioned) right above his lip, on the left side, and he had more across his back and shoulders. He had birthmarks (one on his thumb and another in his inner thigh), and multiple scars across his body. But these scars are completely and utterly... domestic. Toying around with the stapler, stapling both his fingers together at age 4, falling off the bike at age 6, a dog bite in the right ear (he also had cigarette burns in his arms, in the back of his neck as well, but that’s something for another day). Although his eyes. His eyes aren’t what they used to be. They were always blue, and they still are, but it’s a different blue. Before the j*ker happened, Jason’s eyes were a speckless blue, an innocent one. And then they turned a dark blue, and I don’t wanna say what everyone says, but jason having specks of green (and white) in the originally blue irises of his eyes is just a really cool concept. The green, of course, for the connective tissues and muscle fibers that the lazarus was able to stitch up. The white for the ones that the lazarus wasn’t able to complete (for whatever reason). They were just left blank. Note that you can’t see it, not unless you’re paying ridiculously close attention to Jason’s eyes.
- Tim Drake is pretty. That’s all. In my head, he will always have freckles. Always. Not like freckles, freckles, not by like genetics or anything, but by the sun. Tim Drake (as all the batboys, but they don’t have freckles, except for Dick when i feel like it) spends a lot of time under the sun. I know there’s the whole idea of fandom in which he’s ‘dead inside’ and has huuuge bags under his eyes and barely sleeps and always spends time inside with his laptop and drinking coffee. And I mean, sure, Tim Drake might get little sleep, but he also screams off he vibes of a guy that is really hyper when with friends, but in a more subtle way. Tim Drake is just... i mean he’s like that. I don’t picture him as closed off, or monotonic. So he probably, yes, stays up all day and all night, gets like three hours worth of sleep, and then just vibes and goofs (when with friends) all day long. He is this professional hoe but that’s for another day.
His hair’s got the middle part going on, which used to be short, then grew and that was that. He didn’t bother to cut it, only to realize that he actually liked it like that. When he showers, it’s like... to his chin. The front strands. You know what i mean?
His eyes are an icy blue. All blue, not specks of anything. But it’s a light blue, and from far it looks grayish.
Tim also has beautiful eyelashes write that down.
- I’ll have to admit, I don’t think often about Damian’s appereance. The thing i have thought about most are his eyes. Like.... They’re green, but the only explanation to that is the lazarus (now, i know that there are versions of talia in which her eyes are green, and yeah that could come from anywhere in the family tree, but i’ll stick with brown because i’ve seen it mostly in brown so). And you’re probably tired of hearing me talk about the lazarus, but i have this headcanon in which, you know, Talia’s been in the lazarus so many times, and that affected her bloodstream, or something like that, and that came into play when Damian was born. But his eyes were still brown, but he had the connective tissues and muscle fibers and everything else that makes the iris, and the first time that Damian came into contact with the waters of the lazarus, they... activated, per se. And his eyes were green, time by time that he came in contact with such. And besides that, I swear to you that i haven’t thought about much else.
I wanted to write this part on duke, but then i realized that i don’t know that much on him, and as im learning, I’m just exploring the canon facts of his character, and haven’t actually given much thoughts onto other aspects, so if you guys have any headcanons about duke’s appereance (or any other batboys’, really), feel totally free to share them!

Have you ever done a post regarding Elektra and all her love interests in the comics? I know it's done often with DD (and how he is quite the ladies man) but was wondering who she has been romantically involved with in the Marvel Universe.
I haven’t, and I really should, so thank you for asking! This is one of those questions where the longer I thought about it, the more difficult it became to actually answer, and the reason is this: Elektra tends to be a sexualized character. She is frequently written as something of a femme fatale, and people are constantly lusting after her. This means that in some cases-- especially cases in which Elektra is not the narrator of the story-- it’s difficult to distinguish between Elektra partnering with someone who is attracted to her and Elektra actually being engaged in a romantic relationship. There is a ton of subtext involved in some of her interactions with people, and I will be the first to admit that I’m not the best at decoding romantic subtext. A great example is Agent Garrett from Elektra: Assassin (who I have not included on this list). We are in his head for most of the story, and he is going gaga over Elektra the entire time. On the page, it doesn’t look like she’s reciprocating, but Garrett imagines that she might be, and so you get into this situation where you start to think... maybe they’re being romantic off-panel. Maybe Elektra is actually into him. But since we’re not in her head, and because Garrett is an unreliable narrator, it’s very difficult to parse what is actually going on between them.
In any case, here is a list of people with whom I’m pretty confident Elektra has been romantically involved (in roughly chronological order).
Matt Murdock
[ID: Elektra and Matt seen from the shoulders up, kissing. Elektra has her arms around Matt’s neck.]
Obviously, number one on the list is this guy, the college boyfriend, Elektra’s first love, the one that accidentally got her father killed which caused her to become so disillusioned with life that she dropped out of school and became a ninja assassin got away. Elektra is very much her own character and has been for a long time, but she will always-- to some degree-- be defined by her relationship with Matt. This is partly because Matt was a significant player in her origin story, but it’s also because their relationship embodied a happier time, and is something that Elektra has continued to cherish through all of the chaos that she has been through in the years since. Matt serves as a bit of an ideal for her; she will occasionally compare other men she meets to him-- particularly men who she is considering involving herself with. If you want to play Elektra bingo, “Thinks About Matt” should be the free space because it happens at least once per run.
I tend to think of Matt and Elektra’s relationship as one of a connection that transcends their actual interactions. Their lives are so intensely paralleled, and their college-era time together was so important to both of them, that they are always present in each other’s lives even when they aren’t physically together. Elektra will frequently show up when Matt needs help-- sometimes in person, sometimes psychically, sometimes just in his imagination. They have shared a lot of closeness and are very important to each other. But they haven’t actually spent that much time together. Elektra was interested in resuming a romantic relationship with Matt immediately after her resurrection, during Chichester’s Daredevil run, but Matt wasn’t in the right emotional place for it. They tried, briefly, to date during Elektra volume 1, but that fell apart right away. Now, in the current DD run, they have started up a relationship-- which is hugely significant after years and years of pining and angst and near-misses. I’m curious to see where this will take them moving forward.
Tekagi
[ID: Two panels showing Elektra and a burly man embracing in a stream in the moonlight.]
Tekagi (caption): “My past with Elektra? Is that what really troubles you, Genkotsu? It was exotic and intense, yes... but it is also long over!”
In Elektra: Root of Evil, we learn that during her time training with/infiltrating the Hand, a lonely Elektra had a passionate but brief relationship with one of her teachers, an ambitious (and ultimately bad news) Hand warrior named Tekagi. While they both end up with fond memories of their time together, they also both treat it as being very much in the past. When they meet again as enemies, years later, Elektra doesn’t suffer too much angst about killing him.
Wolverine
[ID: Elektra and Wolverine, both in costume, are sitting together on a low wall with a Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters sign on the front. Wolverine looks sad; Elektra is embracing him from behind. They are surrounded by green trees.]
When Logan has the Adamantium ripped out of him and the trauma causes him to revert to a feral, animalistic state, Stick sends Elektra to help him find his way back. This comes at a time when Elektra is also struggling to re-find herself after returning from the dead. Together, the two go on an emotional journey of self-discovery that turns them into very close friends. Since then, they have frequently stepped into each other’s lives for team-ups and to provide emotional support. I have to admit a little ignorance on this one. While Logan’s appearances in Elektra-focused comics appear platonic, I haven’t read many Wolverine comics, and I've gotten the sense through my general Marvel reading that there is a romantic element to Elektra and Logan’s relationship that I just haven’t come across yet, which is why he’s on this list. If any of my followers can clarify this one, please do!
McKinley “Mac” Stewart
[ID: Elektra (in a jacket) is leaning down toward Mac, a beefy guy with a mustache and a ponytail. Her hand is on the side of his face. The scene is tinted dark blue.]
Elektra: “Stop talking. The answer is yes, Matt.”
Mac: “You mean... Mac.”
Elektra: “That’s what I said.”
Elektra’s first solo series takes place soon after her resurrection, and is centered around her attempts to put her life as an assassin behind her and start anew (spoiler: she fails spectacularly). One of her projects in this new life is a dojo that she founds and funds to give local kids a place to go to receive training and support. Elektra brings in two guys to help run the dojo: a martial artist named King Lau and a heavyweight boxer named Mac Stewart. Mac quickly develops an attraction toward Elektra, and while she at first hesitates to accept his advances for personal baggage-related reasons, she eventually ends up engaging in what seems to be a mostly physical relationship with him. However, this relationship doesn’t receive much development. Most of their interactions happen off-panel or in the background of the main plot, Elektra almost ditches him for Matt at one point, and when the series ends, Mac is in a coma thanks to an attack by the Hand and (to my knowledge) never appears again.
Frank Castle
[ID: Elektra and Frank are sitting across from each other at a diner-style table, drinking out of the same cup with straws. They are pointing weapons (sai and gun) at each other under the table.]
Elektra and Frank have tended to run in the same circles, kill the same types of people, etc. and through encountering each other and learning each other’s reputations, they end up developing a healthy admiration for each other. Frank asks Elektra to train him, in recognition of her superior skills. This blossoms into a romance that lasts throughout their time working together on the Thunderbolts team (she gives him the heart of a mobster she killed and he gets it bronzed... it's very sweet). They end up having a (verbal and physical) fight and breaking up at the end of the run, though they still seem to be on fairly good terms.
Stephen Strange
[ID: Elektra and Doctor Strange, both in costume, are kissing in front of the big window in the Sanctum Sanctorum. A full moon is rising over the buildings behind them.]
This is new! Elektra and Stephen are currently working together on Conan-related shenanigans in Savage Avengers, and a few issues ago they slept together. For the moment, they both seem to be treating it as a casual one-time thing, but time will tell if that remains true.

[Image 1 Description: A Crowd of people, all colored blue, with the label "Interneters" on them. To the left of the crowd a young man stands out. He is a repeat character. We'll call him "The Interneter." He has dark brown skin, short light blue dread-locks. He wears a burgundy colored hoodie, a dark teal V-neck shirt, and dark bluish-grey jeans. The Interneter says "You never told us what a "Spoonie" is."
To the middle right is Rachel, we can only see to the bottom of her shirt for now. (She has pale white skin, short and messy blonde hair, teal shirt with ferns printed on each side, Maroon shorts, light cyan thigh-high stocking with cut outs of leaves on them, maroon shoes). Rachel, smiling wearily, looking right at us, holding her index finger up:"Well, you could just google it. But hey, what the heck? Why pass up an opportunity to be the first person who tells you what it means?"
We see Rachel again on the lower left side, smiling while raising an eyebrow, holding her left hand to her face, and her right hand out towards us: "Ya ready?"
The crowd lines the bottom of the image. The Interneter stands in the middle, with a speech bubble above "Yes." and a speech bubble to his bottom right, "That's why we asked."]
[Image 2 Description: There is a lavender square at the top of this image, on it is the text: "Spoonie" comes from a disability metaphor first described in a 2003 essay by christine miserandino called "The Spoon Theory" in which she tells the story of trying to explain to a friend what it feels like to have lupus, using spoons as visual representation of her daily energy. She actually handed her friend a bouquet of spoons and said: "
Below Christine, a white woman with long brunette hair, a white headband, purple dress shirt and jeans, holds out a sparkling bouquet of spoons saying "Here you go".
Below this we see her down on one knee. To her right her friend, female, brown skin, long braided dark brunette hair with a reddish tint, blue over-all dress, and teal leggings, sits on a stool holding the spoons Christine handed her.
"You have Lupus." Christine says, to which her friend nervously responds "Haha, whaaat?...... Please explain."]
[Image 3 Description: Another lander square fills the top of this image, on it is a quote from Christine's Essay, "Most people start the day with unlimited amounts of possibilities- energy to do whatever they desire...for the most part, they do not need to worry about the effects of their actions...I wanted something for her to actually hold, for me to then take away. If I was in control of taking away the spoons, then she would know what it feels like to have something else being in control."
Below Christine sits alone, her legs "criss-cross". She is smiling at us and holds a giant spoon. Around her are little blurbs in purple text, "Might actually own a giant spoon" "Has done awesome advocacy work" "Read more at butyoudontlooksick.com (if you want to)"]
[Image 4 Description: a chart titled "How Spoon Theory Works". A single spoon equals a unit of energy that a person can use safely. On the left is "spoon cost per activities" on the right is icons to show the activities.
1 spoon; Getting out of bed, taking medications, changing clothes. 2 spoons; Watching a tv show, a microwavable meal, using the internet.3 spoons; Enagaing in a small activity like art, cleaning something, making a meal that required stove or oven.4 spoons; Taking a shower, leaving your home, socializing.
Narration text: Why use it? I'll let this quote by a doctor who was originally using buckets of water (???) with patients explain. "Using analogies and/or metaphors...can help clinicians and patients' loved ones get a better understanding of the impact of specific activities on a patient." (John Hopkins Neurologist Scott Newsome, DO, on the topic of "Spoon Theory")]
[Image 5 Description: The Interneter is looking worried, sweating. He says to Rachel,
"Oh wait, so I have major depression disorder, insomnia, and ADHD. During my last episode, I was barely able to make it to one class a day, and maybe get one meal. My insomnia felt uncontrollable. I ran out of mental brain power for my classes, but I still attempted as much class work as I could, even if my brain couldn't fully show up. Don't get me wrong- I still tried, so hard. Even if I was too depressed to feel things like 'normal' I still wanted to be embracing my college life. I feel like spoon theory would have really helped me in times like those. Especially since I haven't found an antidepressant that works on me yet. I know it's not like what you go through, like chronic physical illness. I wouldn't want to make less of your experience or appropriate this term. I'm just wondering if-"
Rachel, looking calm, finding The Interneter endearing and smiling slightly, "Your experiences are just as valid and the level of impact your depression has absolutely qualifies you as a spoonie."]
[Image 6 Description: Narration text "Today a spoonie is someone with a condition that causes limited amounts of physical and/or cognitive energy, such as chronic illness, mental illness, or disability. It's also used by neurodivergents who deal with persistent energy limitations."
Below sits 4 girls all smiling, waving, and looking at us, left to right; The first girl has an average frame, tan skin, long navy blue hair, a maroon hat, faded pink pants, a blue/purple/lavender striped shirt, and cutting scar on her arms. Second girl is Kitt, she was in another comic, she has a plus sized frame, dark brown skin, shoulder length curly/dark brown hair. she wears a teal dress with white strips, a waist long blue jacket, blue shoes, her left left is a purple prosthetic. Third girl, she is Asian, very light but still tan skin, with black hair in cut in a pixie style. She has on a white sweat shirt that has lavender sleeves and a salmon color at the bottom, in the center is the rainbow infinity sign for neurodivergence. She has on mint pants and wear white and salmon colored sneakers. On the floor below them sits Rachel.
Narrative text "Not all of us are literally measuring out energy in terms of spoons, but having such a metaphor is extremely helpful."]
[Image 7 Description: Narrative text "Spoon Theory embraces acknowledgment of a condition's control, which is weirdly liberating because this reminds a person:"
Girl number 3 is on the right is whispering to The Interneter "Lack of control isn't proof of personal weakness. You don't have to beat yourself up for experiencing your condition."
"I know that. . ." the interneter says shyly, blushing and smiling.
"Do you though?" Rachel says from the left.
Below her is girl number one. "Do u? I've been doing this for 13 years and even I forget sometimes."]
[Image 8 Description: Narrative text "For young people in particular, spoonie is the first word a person may use when starting to rewrite what their life with their condition could look like."
The Interneter lays flat on his bed, we see him from the side looking hopeful "Having to live life this way isn't easy, but I want to make it work."
Below we see he is centered on his bed holding 1 spoon, "especially since I'm still having that episode of depression." On the right side his words continue "I didn't say anything because I was afraid of messing up the flow of the comic."]
[Image 9 Description: Narrative text "Spoons can be a silly thing to associate with possibly not having enough energy to manage basic survival activities, which is one reason some don't bother using the term at all. Still, it's easier to say,"
A woman, standing in the center of the image with a long purple dress, short brunette hair, and a purple walking cane, holds a hand to her chest smiling "I'm a spoonie!"
To her left is a large man all in red, hand on his hips smiling, "My own experiences of feeling tired helps me empathize with you. You make me feel validated."
To her right is a little girl colored pink "Spoons are good!"
Next to her is a woman in maroon "Such a cute and positive take!"
At the bottom of the image narrative text says "Rather than bring folk's moods down with-"]
[Image 10 description: "My body is disabled! Living an existence with a condition that is unpredictable and invisible sometimes breaks my brain! Please don't shut me out until I'm "Fixed". Just respect my limits." Rachel says, now in the center of the people instead of the purple-dressed spoonie. She sits in her wheelchair with legs up, holding her arms out, her expression is crying yet smiling.
The large man to her left has his arms folded, now very uneasy "How do I tell apart your "disability" from excuses, self pity, and faking stuff? And who sits in a wheelchair like that?"
On the right the little pink girl is crying, her maroon mother bending down to hold her. "Isn't "Disabled" bad?" the girl ask.
Her mother responding "Nothing we need to worry about, sweetie. There are plenty of programs that think of the disabled so we don't have to."
Narrative text, "Yes. Spoonie can at times feel detached just enough from harsh reality to ease people's discomforts."]
[Image 11 Description: Narrative text:” Perhaps detached enough for misguided normies to think,”
A young woman standing in the center with one hand on her hip and one raised with her index finger pointed upwards says "Hey! I feel like I have limited energy to! I like this "spoons" idea. It will help me be mindful and proactive with my energy! I'm a spoonie now!"
She is white woman with tanned skin, long bleach blonde hair in a pony-tail, wearing grey yoga pants and a green tang top. On her tang top are the words "Has no condition is just human".
To her left Girl number 3, Kitt, and Rachel are huddled looking at the woman. “Don't-” says girl number 3. "Oh no, wait-" says Kitt. "You're not one now, but hey, you'll be one of us eventually. No need to rush." says Rachel.
On the left is a young hipster male all in orange "You're just a product of obsessive online health trends." He calls out.
Narrative text "Let's hope it doesn't turn into the 'snuggie' of disability lingo.]
[Image 12 description: Narrative Text: "Now, being disabled by a condition, especially it's fatigue aspect, doesn't mix well with the 'hyper-productive' narrative that today's society puts out."
A Pinkish-maroon leg with the words 'society that doesn't fully realize the systemic harm of it's ableism' on it, kicks a stick figure of the Interneter high up into the air in a Team Rocket fashion.
"Looks like having problems with my human body is causing me to be considered less of a human agaaiinn!!!" The interneter says, surrounded by anime sparkles.
Narrative Text "Still, being active, productive, and accepted by some form of community, lay the foundations for self-confidence and a sense of worth. Contributing online is one way even the most debilitated amount us have managed a version of that foundation."]
[Image 13 Description: Narrative text: "Disabled communities are sources of support, love, guidance, and empowerment built upon collaboration, inclusion, and knowledge. They help bring together people with a willingness to listen, because they all know the value in feeling heard."
Two horizontal rows of a diverse group of people with disabilities, drawn to show them all in bed, all interacting with each other like the would if the were together in person. Below each person is an awareness ribbon to indicate the condition(s)they have.
From left to right, top row; A young woman with very dark brown skin, black hair in a bun, is looking concerned and reaching for a young man in the row below her. He is black with slightly lighter skin, very short hair, a 5 o'clock shadow, wearing glasses. He is reach towards her with is left arm, his right arm is curled due to his medical condition. Next in the top row, a Young woman with curly brown hair, tan skin, glasses, and cutting parts on her arms is smiling and being handed a book by a young white male with Downs-Syndrome, he hair short light brown hair and glasses. A young woman with tan skin, glasses, wearing a hijab, has a pink prosthetic arm holding a piece of paper, and is using her other arm to hold hands with the person she is smiling/talking with- a thin non-binary with short blue pixie hair and braces on her elbows and right arm. This person is also holding a piece of paper, eyes shut from laughing, with happy tears coming from their eyes.
Bottom row; Next to the young man with dark skin, is a plus-sized woman with white skin, her hair is deep violet in a pixie cut. She is holding a yellow ribbon, looking concerned and speaking a "?" as she taps the should of the girl next to her. This girl is Asian with black hair in a short ponytail, she looks back at the woman with the ribbon, her arms are on the back of the next woman, whom she is comforting. This woman has medium dark skin, half her head is shaved, the other is short navy blue dreadlocks. She is curled up and crying, below her is a yellow ribbon next to a purple one. The young man on her left has his left arm around her, and has a sympathetic expression, talking with the woman to try and provide comforting. He has tan skin and short curly brown hair, with short curly brown facial hair.
Narrative text: "Spoonies are just one part of this collective, their efforts displaying that a condition's control isn't proof of weakness, as if can exist even along side massive amounts of inner strength."]

Okay folks, I am all caught up with Tokyo Mew Mew Au Lait chapters 1-3 and Tokyo Mew Mew 2020 Re-Turn chapters 1 and 2 so I am Doing A Thing! Buckle up, bitches!
MASSIVE SPOILERS IF YOU’RE WAITING FOR THE OFFICIAL ENGLISH RELEASES (whenever the hell those will be). Thanks to @berrychanx, @hikayagami, and @ribbonstrawberrysurprise for the scans, English translation, and hard work putting the translation onto the manga so neatly.
LEADERS
MOMOMIYA ICHIGO AND SHIBUYA AOI
Honestly this is the biggest difference between the 2020 Re-Turn reboot/original series and the magical boy tribute. Aoi is in no way like Ichigo once you get past that they’ve both been injected with Iriomote cat DNA. Whereas Ichigo is cheery and bubbly and cute, Aoi is withdrawn, suffers from low self confidence, and sort of breaks the fourth wall during nearly every fight, freaking out at how catchphrases and such just seem to burst forth from him after he transforms. (It’s honestly a funny highlight.) Their respective crushes are also treated differently, with Aoi falling hard for Anzu (though of course saying nothing) almost immediately, almost a love at first sight sort of deal, and Ichigo already having this crush on this boy when we start vanilla TMM and already deeply committed to him in the reboot. In civilian form, (using vanilla Ichigo here, it’s not fair to compare Aoi to 2020 “been a magical girl for years” Ichigo), Aoi is a lot more unsure of himself, and seems almost to be in this Mew Mew thing for Anzu, whereas Ichigo immediately had a “I’ll do my best” acceptance mindset from the start. (Both freak out over their cat ears appearing at random moments, even Ichigo in the 2020 reboot, and I think I can finally give poor Aoi a point over Ichigo here. It makes him uncomfortable but he just wears a hoodie and hopes no one notices. It makes Ichigo freak out more lol.)
THE LOVE INTEREST / DUNGEON NAVI / SECONDARY PROTAGONIST
AOYAMA MASAYA, HINATA ANZU, SHIROGANE RYOU
Anzu is a precious peach and she occupies such a weird role here that I almost couldn’t make her a neat little graphic. She doesn’t fit neatly into a “oh, they’re a genderbent so and so” like nearly everyone else, and it’s fascinating. On the one hand, several panels in the first chapter of Au Lait make it clear that the writers are setting her up to be Aoi’s love interest. Every magical girl anime has a love interest, so why wouldn’t a magical boy manga? But that’s where she diverges. Unlike Masaya, who is a very clear tribute to Sailor Moon’s Tuxedo Mask (with the exception that he’s a cute bean as a civilian, he’s nearly the same person. No past, gets kidnapped, magical form to protect the magical girl, evil form to fight the magical girl [this happened in PGSM, and he’s been brainwashed several times]), who has always been a secondary character, Anzu actually starts the Au Lait manga. She wasn’t even featured on the promo images, so when I opened the first chapter in a zip file I thought I’d downloaded the wrong one. My rudimentary Japanese confirmed I hadn’t, but I was like “well who tf is this chick?” I waited for an English translation to be sure and yup - Anzu is being treated almost like a secondary protagonist. Well that’s new. It’s as if the Au Lait writers smashed together the characters of Ryou and Masaya and named their love child Hinata Anzu. She’s intelligent, she knows more about this project than she should, and, like Ryou in vanilla, she’s out and about and helping the boys, not just as a civilian, but in every battle. She doesn’t have powers (that we know of), but her smarts and knowledge of animals have served them well time and again. Au Lait seems more like, as one reader put it, Anzu And The Dork Squad than Aoi’s team.
Masaya in 2020 Re-Turn is adorable. He is at odds with Quiche over Ichigo (or more like, he dislikes just how much Quiche likes Ichigo), and in a moment of panic he uses his leftover remnants of Deep Blue’s power to... change his clothes. I’m not sure what actually happened there. (Note: Thanks ribbonstrawberrysurprise: Deep Blue manifested to float the chimera anima/train and its passengers to safety.) But I love that he was so concerned for Ichigo, who at that moment desperately needed help, that the being who created his body and didn’t like Ichigo wanted to protect her. Ryou was his standoffish self, but even he seemed to have a hint of a lingering crush. He organized a party for the Mews and then took over in cafe duties so Ichigo could meet her man at the airport, unable to quiiiiite meet her eye while saying so. I always did like Ryou/Ichigo.
THE SASSY RICH BITCH
AIZAWA MINTO AND YOYOGI SHIZUKA
First of all: SAILOR JUPITER TAUGHT ME THAT PINK EQUALS FLOWER HURRICANES AND CAN I JUST SAY THAT I AM DISAPPOINTED AS FUCK THAT SHIZUKA ISN’T PLANT BASED AND CAN’T DO FLOWER HURRICANES THAT IS ALL.
Admit it. When we saw the promo image, we assumed certain things. One of those things turned out to be true: Aoi would be the Iriomote cat, because of course he would be Ichigo’s counterpart. Shizuka is wearing glasses, and his costume had the little tail, which meant he must have been a fish or a marine mammal and therefore Retasu’s counterpart, right? RIGHT. But also very, very wrong, my friends. Shizuka is indeed water based like Retasu - he’s an Amazon river dolphin (the pink ones!) - and that’s where all his similarities to our gentle green girl end. Instead of making everyone exactly the same but gender flipped, Au Lait is going in a slightly different direction, and I really like it. Shizuka is actually the most similar to our resident princess Minto! They both attend prestigious elite schools and generally act better than everyone else, but the real gem here is their interactions with their leaders. Shizuka has some truly snappy one-liners - such as discovering Ryuusei (”that’s the power of an idiot”) - and his reactions to Aoi are gold. He considers himself a genius, and indeed he’s very intelligent according to Natsume (and his school seems to be for smart people, it’s not prestigious for music or anything like that), and he makes little quips at Aoi all the time about how Aoi isn’t. I could totally see him spending an entire shift reading a book at Cafe Mew Mew while Aoi does all the work, only for him to stand up and someone to scream “HOLY CRAP, SHIZUKA’S UP, SHIT’S ABOUT TO GO DOWN.”
Minto is also full of snappy quips at Ichigo in the reboot, mostly about how Ichigo should handle the biggest, strongest enemies since she’s the leader, and can’t Ichigo even keep them in place so Minto can shoot them down? (And yeah, someone totally said the above comment ^ when Minto stood up at Cafe Mew Mew.) Minto was always one of my favorite characters, and I love that we saw a lot of close ups of her in the reboot, and that she seemed to be second in command.
THE CHILD
FONG PURIN AND KANDA RYUUSEI
Oh my god these two. I refuse to believe they aren’t related. I know Purin is Chinese but you cannot take this headcanon from me.
Purin is my favorite character in OG Mew Mew and Ryuusei claimed my heart the second I saw the Au Lait promo. NEITHER OF THEM DISAPPOINTED ME, I AM SO IN LOVE.
While I WILL say that I in no way care for Mew Pudding’s redesign (I hate literally everything about it. I miss her jumpsuit. I hate the little pigtails at the top of her head. I hate the ribbon. At least she still has her fingerless gloves), I love that she got an entire panel of just her being badass. She stood in the middle of some train tracks, facing a runaway speeding train chimera anima, with that ^ fucking look on her face, and was like “where you going, na no da?” Purin from like, ten years ago wouldn’t have done that. She has matured so much, but she’s still the young, goofy little acrobat monkey who provides for her tea-themed siblings (who criminally do not make an appearance) and I just love her so fucking much, you guys.
RYUUSEI. Guys. He’s an idiot. Oh my god. He’s a cute lovable idiot. “What’s a gomodo dragon? What’s a kodomo dragon? What’s a condo dragon and why does it need a house?” Anzu was in love with him for like five seconds until she learned he’s a dumbass, and Aoi was jealous as fuck, and no one ever told him what his damn animal was, and I laughed my ass off through his entire last couple pages. He also had his jacket hand embroidered with the kanji for dragon, BUT IT’S MISSPELLED. It’s missing a stroke! XD
Ryuusei is the KOMODO dragon (which is Anzu’s favorite animal), and komodos are badass. He also either always had weird animal powers, or just never noticed that he suddenly got super smell. Komodo dragons, by the way, can track their prey for literally MILES by smell alone, for DAYS. It’s absolutely terrifying (thank you for the nightmares, Wild Thornberries), and Au Lait made it fucking comical. I can’t even. HE CAN SMELL THE RED DATA ANIMAL ON PEOPLE. I love it. He’s super strong and super cute, apparently lives with his grandparents, and is Purin’s counterpart in every single way, except I think SHE might be more mature than him. I love him. He is my baby.
Yellow is my favorite color and yellow never disappoints.
THE FAMOUS
FUJIWARA ZAKURO AND ROPPONGI AYATO
Zakuro had next to no presence in the reboot. She occasionally made some panels look pretty. She twice had a half page to herself, one per chapter. I am sad. I love my wolf lesbian. In semi-related news, I feel I have solved the mystery of Zakuro’s red data animal, something that has plagued the TMM community for years. The grey wolf is not endangered at all, yet Zakuro is injected with one, right? I read somewhere (either in a TMM blog or a conservation blog) that there is a subspecies of grey wolf that IS critically endangered. I believe it’s the Mexican grey wolf? I headcanon she was injected with DNA specifically from a Mexican grey wolf.
Moving on. In Chapter 3 (which was a DELIGHT), we met Ayato. Chapter 3 was the most frustrating chapter because let me tell you, Au Lait marks the first time I have ever read a manga chapter by chapter as it was being released in Japan. So I’m waiting Nakayoshi to publish the chapter, then I’m waiting for someone to scan Nakayoshi, then I’m waiting for someone to translate it, over and over and over, and omg I can’t believe this is what people DO. I’ve waited for full volumes before, but CHAPTERS? This is torture. Ayato, I haven’t had enough TIME with you!
Ayato seems to be an actor (in a really... really weird stage play), and has very few lines in his first appearance. I’m not sure what I make of him. He says about six sentences, which is actually a lot for a character introduced on a cliffhanger, but... I can’t decide if he’s said them in a mysterious Sailors Neptune and Uranus way or a flamboyant Sohma Ayame way. I ALSO DON’T KNOW WHAT ANIMAL HE IS AND I AM VERY ANGRY. BB Ryuusei said he smells like yakitori (a type of grilled chicken), which confirms he’s a bird. But. WHICH BIRD, DAMNIT?
CHAPTER FOUR WHERE ARE YOU?
THE FUNDING
AKASAKA KEIICHIRO, HINATA NATSUME, SHIROGANE RYOU
Hello again, Ryou! The boys here were wallpaper (though cute wallpaper) in the reboot. Natsume is 100% a troll. I love her. She admits in chapter 3 she literally just injected hot boys for her Mew Mew project. Even Ryou wasn’t that blunt. I mean, if you gotta save Earth and stare at people while you do it, they better be cute, right?
IF FOUND, PLEASE CALL THE FANDOM
MIDORIKAWA RETASU, SHIRAYUKI BERII, AKAI RINGO
Aside from her two half panels as a Mew Mew per chapter, this is the only good cap of Retasu as a civilian in the reboot. D: I believe Hiroo Taichi will be her counterpart in Au Lait.
I never liked Berii. There, I said it. She got TWO animals. She was some random newbie and she got to be leader just like that? And she was clueless and dumb and the writing in A La Mode wasn’t great. But I really like 2020 Berii. She’s cute, she seems more rabbit than cat, and she seems more intelligent and less of a blonde Ichigo clone. I don’t know if she’ll have an Au Lait counterpart.
WHERE IS RINGO? THE REBOOT WAS THE PERFECT OPPORTUNITY TO PUT HER IN THE STORY FOR REAL AND SHE JUST... WASN’T THERE?! THIS IS BLASPHEMY. RINGO IS THE BEST MEW MEW. BEST GIRL. JUSTICE FOR RINGO.
THE RELATIONSHIPS
MASAYA & ICHIGO VS AOI & ANZU
ZAKURO & MINTO VS AYATO & RYUUSEI
Nearly all of 2020 chapter 1 focused on Ichigo seeing Masaya again. I’m guessing this took place after he left for London. Ichigo left with him after A La Mode, and some time between then and Re-Turn came back to Japan, and now Masaya is back. They are still as lovey as ever, but not as sickeningly cute as Tsukino Usagi and Chiba Mamoru or anything. Phew! Their counterpart in Au Lait seems to Aoi and Anzu. (Look at that height difference! Poor Anzu, her poor neck.) Aoi already has a massive crush on her, but Anzu, bless her, is oblivious.
AND NOW FOR THE GAYS.
I think Zakuro and Minto is probably one of the most popular TMM ships and holy lesbians, Batman, they were well fed with this GORGEOUS panel at the end of chapter 2. Look at it. Zakuro had literally no panels, save for her two intros, to herself, and barely any panels at all in the reboot, and then BA-BAM, this beautiful ending shot. I swear Ikumi did it on purpose. Speaking of gays - is Ayato/Ryuusei the new Zakuro/Minto? Ayato seems to be at least bisexual (he also hit on Anzu), but this was literally his second panel. He is in a (terrible, TERRIBLE) play, and the actors are walking in the audience looking for the villain. Ayato walks into the audience and HITS ON RYUUSEI. His first goddamn words are “Do you want me to keep you, my cute little puppy?” to Ryuusei. He says fuck this acting shit, I see a SNACK. I think I ship it. I think I ship it hard.
THE STORY
*Au Lait is just getting started, so typical magical girl boy anime manga: Let’s find the others! Shenanigans! Some fillers! It’s cute, I love it, go read it.
*2020 Re-Turn is actually REALLY GOOD and chapter 2 reminds me of just how unique Tokyo Mew Mew was and still is among not just magical girl series, but animanga as a whole. Quick, what was the last environmental series you remember? Mine was Captain Planet - in the 90s. Preachy, in your face, after school special about things like pollution and endangered species and littering and honestly it was really cool, but very much a product of its time. Even now, magical girl animanga is still focused on bad guys, but bad guys are generic and represent something created for the series. Here, the bad guys are US, other human beings, who traffic animals, who endanger them, who wreck our planet enough that animals are barely clinging to life. There’s a very poignant scene featuring the adorable snow leopard up there (who’s the secondary protagonist of the reboot) ^, showing his mother being shot and himself being snatched by poachers, and he’s terrified, and has no idea what’s going on or where he is, and Ichigo is terrified for him. We need more series like this - not just of the magical girl genre, but of ALL genres. To make it accessible in this way, for people of all ages, something enjoyable, that people can fangirl over and love and its creators clearly put a lot of love and thought into. We need another Captain Planet, but less preachy, less after school special-y. We don’t want to be like the aliens (who remember, are descendants of humans who fucked up Earth so badly they had to leave it).
Behind all the cute of this manga and its reboot, and its new spinoff, Tokyo Mew Mew has a powerful message that we should all be following. It’s not even subtle. Get yo shit together, peeps.

(Alright, last try to get this acknowledged by the tumblr algorithm and show up in recent. As per @usuallysublimepenguin ‘s advice, I’ve removed all the links in this post. If you’d like to see the full post as it was originally meant to look, I recommend looking up the ssss tag or lalli hotakeinen tag on my blog. It should be the post under this one for both tags; that is, if it even shows up in the search results, which I hope it does.)
I don’t know how many people in the ssss fandom are familiar with Hotline Miami, but, just like my first ever drawing for this fandom, I’m gonna try to explain to the best of my abilities the similarities that led to the creation of this drawing :)
Also, if you’re a HM fan that just stumbled upon this post and you’re interested in reading an ongoing post-apocalyptic comic more lighthearted and less bleak (supposedly…) than The Walking Dead, set 90 years post “apocalyptic event” and which also has supernatural elements of Norse and Finnish mythology thrown into the mix, I suggest reading through the Stand Still Stay Silent webcomic and let yourself get just as emotionally destroyed as the rest of us :)
Though, a little warning is warranted due to the ongoing situation outside IRL: you might want to skip the prologue for now and read it when everything’s better and less pandemic-y.
So, in the first Hotline Miami game you play as Jacket, a quiet, reserved individual who’s traumatized by a past event in his life which resulted in the loss of someone close to him (seeing the similarities yet?). One day, he gets a strange phone call that tells him to put on the chicken mask that he had just unexpectedly received, go to a place and do some stuff. He does what he’s told to do… and also the next time he’s called, and the next one, and so on and so forth… He does all of this without any questions and without saying a single word against it. Lets just say that a lot of people ceased to be… er, functional, due to his actions.
I won’t go into WHY he does that, but the way he so cold heartedly does everything he’s told to do, without any questions at all, reminded me very much of how Lalli used to be when the crew first met him, and also how he behaved (or was trained to be like by his grandma) long before that meeting. I also wanted to draw a more morbid and even colder version of Lalli (possibility him if he lived in modern times and joined a gang or the mafia). I also replaced the common and well-known chicken mask of Jacket and Richard with a lynx mask (I hope it looks like it) so as to better suit him and his Luonto. And, I replaced his main weapon of choice with a fire axe instead of the baseball bat *cough* name *cough* Finnish mythology *cough*, sorry, must be all those cigarettes my avatar’s been smoking...
I have plans to draw all of the other crew members as HM characters at some point, though I can’t say that will happen in the near future, due to how I am with drawing things. At best it might take a few months to draw the next thing, at worst a few millennia years. Lets just hope the God Emperor of Mankind doesn’t kick the bucket 40 thousand years from now in his piss-yellow HERESY! *BANG* golden throne before I finish something.
Props to whoever drew the Cyberpunk Lalli gift for G. I. Guardian in the Ssssecret Santa 2019 event on the forum. It helped when trying to find the suitable colors and it also might have been what sparked my will to make this drawing in the first place ;) It’s probably one of my personal favorites and one of the most beautifully drawn and colored fanarts I’ve ever seen for this fandom, so I applaud whoever drew it :D

Platinum Games has launched a Kickstarter campaign to bring a remastered version of the August 2013-released Wii U title The Wonderful 101 to multiple platforms.
At the base funding goal of $50,000, The Wonderful 101: Remastered will release for Switch, and at $250,000 and $500,000, it will release for PC via Steam and PlayStation 4, respectively. An Xbox One version is not a visible stretch goal, but director Hideki Kamiya suggested that it will be in an interview with Gematsu.
The Kickstarter campaign will run from February 3 to March 6 at 12:00 p.m. PT / 3:00 p.m. ET. If successfully funded, The Wonderful 101: Remastered will launch this April.
In a press release, Platinum Games said it will be able to self-publish The Wonderful 101: Remastered, which was originally published by Nintendo, as well as bring the title to other platforms, “thanks to the kindness of Nintendo.”
In a message to supporters, Platinum Games said, “It has been a goal of Platinum Games to own and self-publish the IPs that we create. With your support, we hope that we can make this dream a reality and bring The Wonderful 101: Remastered to a wide variety of platforms and make The Wonderful 101 a part of everyone’s gaming history! This Kickstarter is our chance to UNITE UP, take destiny into our own hands, and bring the best version of The Wonderful 101 to everyone.”
Here is an overview of the game and Kickstarter campaign, via Platinum Games:
About The Wonderful 101: Remastered
The Wonderful 101: Remastered will feature various refinements overseen by director Hideki Kamiya to make the game more user-friendly for players. These improvements include on-screen directives, sub-menu placement, information pop-ups, and unique game play adjustments for new hardware. Although Kamiya feels The Wonderful 101 is already one of his largest games, completely new modes will be added if the corresponding stretch goals are met! These modes will be available later to backers will receive them for free!
About the Kickstarter Campaign
Backers will be able to support the campaign at a wide array of reward tiers and with exclusive goods ranging from The Wonderful 101: Remastered soundtracks, comics, and art books, to extremely rare, one-of-a-kind items like pendants, custom-made masks, and jackets! There will also be a “Defense of Blossom City” social media challenge, in which supporters can unite to achieve certain social media goals to open up additional rewards and increase awareness of the campaign.
Director Hideki Kamiya and producer Atsushi Inaba will also be actively involved in the month-long campaign, providing weekly updates with an inside look into the development of The Wonderful 101: Remastered and interviews with key team members.
Gematsu interviewed The Wonderful 101: Remastered director Hideki Kamiya back in September 2019 regarding the launch of the then-upcoming Kickstarter campaign. Find our full interview with Kamiya below.
Interview with Hideki Kamiya
—Cory Arnold (Gematsu): Considering The Wonderful 101 was originally published by Nintendo and released for Wii U, is it safe to assume The Wonderful 101 Remastered will only release for Switch, or will it be possible to bring to other platforms?
Hideki Kamiya (Platinum Games): “The initial goal is Switch. Depending on stretch goals, we will be porting it to more and more consoles like PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Steam. That is the goal right now.”
—You mentioned Steam, so is the Epic Games Store not in consideration?
Kamiya: “We are focusing on where the biggest user base is, so while we are open to other things right now we are thinking about Steam.”
—Why did you decide to bring The Wonderful 101 to new platforms? Did you talk to Nintendo about a port?
Kamiya: “We felt it did not quite reach the audience that it deserved. As creators we are very confident in the game. This project is a unique opportunity to bring the fans together and see how far the game can go, which is why we went the crowdfunding route. We did speak with Nintendo about it initially, but they said, ‘you either do it only with us or do it yourselves.’ But speaking with them they allowed us to cut a deal, so we took upon ourselves to start this project. Dangen Entertainment is helping us. We have seen successful campaigns in the past, Bloodstained in particular, so we saw it as a very unique and interesting opportunity.”
—I read that you all didn’t feel the original game needed any downloadable content, but for this port are you considering adding any additional content over the original game?
Kamiya: “In terms of the base game content, we are still very happy with the amount of content in the game and we feel it has a lot of content. So there is nothing in particular that we want to add, but the biggest thing we want to change is tweaking the game’s interface to make it more user-friendly. It’s possible we could add some aspects to Unite Morph, new game modes, maybe new characters through stretch goals, but for now expect the same base game. Anything content met through stretch goals will be in the base game at release, not in downloadable content later down the line.”
—Could you speak specifically about some of the things you want to tweak? Have you considered any feedback from users, or reviews? I have seen some people have issues with the camera for example.
Kamiya: “I don’t those people are talking about (laughs). We are making tweaks or changes based on our own ideas rather than outside parties. We don’t necessarily see things as bad and improving them, instead we are taking things that are already good and trying to make them even better.”
—What do you think the main reason was for the original release not reaching as many people as you had hoped? Do you think it was due to Wii U hardware sales or perhaps people being unsure about what the game is?
Kamiya: “It’s attributed to both I think. The Wii U didn’t sell very well, that’s just the fact of the matter. In terms of the game itself, I consider The Wonderful 101 to be a unique title. Games like Bayonetta or Devil May Cry are easier to identify. I have confidence in the game, but there may have been the case where users couldn’t quite tell what The Wonderful 101 was. That’s another reason we want to do this campaign; with modern platforms and audience we think it will be well-received. We want to let people know what kind of game this is, why they need to play it, and why they may want to back it.”
—Will users still be able to activate Unite Morph both through touchscreen gestures and using the right analog stick?
Kamiya: “Since the Switch has a touchscreen, both options will still be available. Obviously for something like PlayStation 4 the only option will be the stick. I myself prefer using the stick.”
—Will multiplayer return and could there potentially be any online functionality?
Kamiya: “The original had the multiplayer mini-game. We don’t have any set plans for it nor online at this point, but it is something we are very interested in doing. With modern days users, everyone likes to play online so if that is possible it would also be cool.”
—OK, so I probably know the answer to this, but since you have brought Bayonetta 2 from Wii U to Switch and are now working on bringing The Wonderful 101 to other platforms, is there any possibility that Star Fox Zero will come to Switch?
Kamiya: “Star Fox is a Nintendo IP, so while we helped make it, we are not in a position to say we want to do this. It is up to Nintendo.”
—It always seems like Platinum is working on a million things at once. Some people wonder if there are multiple teams working on different projects in a similar way to how Square Enix has a team in Tokyo and a team in Osaka.
Kamiya: “We don’t have any specially divided teams per se. We have about 220 people in our Osaka office and we may divide people up to work on different tasks or projects.”
—Thanks for your time, Kamiya-san! Is there anything else you would like to say before we sign off?
Kamiya: “We really appreciate the support of the fans, we think The Wonderful 101 is a great title and really want the fans to ‘unite’ together and make this a wonderful campaign to help it reach a lot of players. We need your help to make this great game reach a lot of platforms.”

Judai Yuki // Jaden Yuki
Age: 15-18+ (Verse/year dependent) Occupation: Student/Vagrant/Amateur League Duelist Aliases: Dropout Boy, Slifer Slacker, Aniki (from Sho), Jay (Also Sho), Schmaeden Schmuki, Number 1 (Ichiban), The Supreme King Date of Birth: August 31 Ethnicity: Japanese Nationality: Japanese Affiliations: Duel Academy (Student/Graduate), Slifer Red Dorm, Team HERO (Dueling League Team for post-school AU)
(AU Inspiration: An attempted amalgamation of manga and anime canon, first anime season was benign and mostly one-offs, attempted to give season 2 and 3 more of a cohesive feeling, though the Neo-Spacian contest arc and having Yubel also be Judai’s childhood card was a stretch, so tried to fix that)
Appearance Judai is tall, for a Japanese youth, with a thin frame, and wild brown hair. Almost always, he can be seen grinning, and this smile has been described as infectious by others, just as much as his pure spirit in regards to duel monsters. Despite not being especially muscular, Judai is still athletic, having preferred sports to sedentary hobbies before discovering Duel Monsters, and even still participating after he began dueling.
Before even his time as a Duel Academy student, Judai preferred wearing red shirts and jackets, usually accompanied with blue, white, or black jeans. As a Duel Academy student, Judai was fairly good about following, though he was fairly casual in his sense of dress, preferring to wear his blazer open, and shirts untucked. Following his graduation, Judai would continue to wear his Slifer Red jacket as a badge of pride for underdogs everywhere, but also to match with his idol Koyo, who also was known to wear a red jacket when dueling.
Personality A spirit of youth and vigor, Judai’s name is a fitting one, as he is always eager, and finds wonder in almost everything new. While he has this nature it is also worth noting that Judai isn’t an especially focused or disciplined young man, often finding academics, or really any sort of lecture even if they’re about something interesting to him, extremely dull; he was frequently known to sleep through lectures while at Duel Academy. Judai has always preferred to do things in a practical capacity, and is actually fairly intuitively capable.
Friendly and generally a good sport, Judai has a sincere love for dueling that only the most dire of situations, such as his year 3, would ever be able to weaken. Excited at the prospect of any strong duelist, Judai will seek out a game with any of them, and often in spite of himself will often have a blast, even when his own life is on the line. Judai has fun with any particular game format, though he strongly prefers to duel with actual cards, rather than in a digital simulation.
While prone to brief bursts of melancholy, especially when being defeated in a duel that he sorely desired to win, Judai is usually able to shake these off with ease, though the conditions under which he came back to, after having killed a number of people as The Supreme King. It was during such a time that Judai lost his love of dueling, for a time, and found himself only engaging in duels that the school expected of him, or that had some manner of dire stakes, or otherwise pertained to the different conspiracies involved with the Academia.
As a rule, Judai prefers to use HERO cards in his decks, having a certain connection to the heroes in American comics, as well as wishing to be like his mentor Koyo. While initially he used HERO cards based on American Heroes (The original Elemental HEROs, such as Clayman, Sparkman, Avian, and Burstinatrix, who were reminiscent of The Justice League and Avengers, before switching to the OmniHERO set that Koyo preferred, as well as Elemental HERO Earth, before eventually settling on a final deck type that made use of the Masked HERO cards, which were based on Super Sentai and Kamen Rider-style characters). Additionally, Judai has been known to tech in non-archetype cards into his HERO decks, that either support his playstyle, or have some sort of sentimental value, such as Winged Kuriboh (the only card that he has built dedicated decks around) or Honest.
Biography Judai Yuki was born to two parents in Kyoto Japan, a fair distance from Domino but still no less swept up in Duel Mania. Growing up, Judai had very little interest in Duel Monsters, instead preferring Baseball, and other sports. However, Judai also had a love for American comic books, his father being a businessman who often traveled abroad gave him frequent access as his father would buy single issues in bulk for the boy to enjoy. Judai’s mother would, while the boy was still in grade 3, pass on due to cancer, which would leave Judai to largely raise himself, as his father’s work wouldn’t often permit him to spend much time with his son.
Though it wasn’t a great situation to be in, Judai didn’t blame his father for this, as he saw it as a way to grieve, something which Judai did mutually by taking an even greater interest in sports.
One day, though, Judai would break his leg, and have to spend a length of time in the hospital to recover, as his dad was out of the country and the time, and having his usual caretaker stay with him full-time during that period, with a busted leg, was not doable. However, due to an overbooking the pediatric ward, Judai was forced to stay in the adult part of the hospital, a situation that was not popular with both Judai and the nursing staff.
For several days Judai was a headache for the adults around him, excepting for his neighbor, Koyo Hibiki, who found amusement in the boy’s antics. After a short time, the young man and his elder sister began talking to the young man, wanting to learn more about him. Experiencing an almost immediate connection with the man, Judai found it fun to get into hi-jinks with the man, who despite being sick was still willing to be a gently-handled accessory. As Judai got to know Koyo better, he found out that the man was a famous Professional Duel Monsters player, frequently regarded as the current best, in fact. While this impressed the other adults enough to rarely contradict or order him around, Judai didn’t much care for cardgames, preferring baseball, and treated the man the same as any other adult.
It was thanks to this that the two were able to easily become friends, and though it took time, Koyo’s sister, Midori Hibiki, had brought some videos of Koyo’s duels. In these videos he saw how cool Koyo truly was when he dueled. Wishing to be like the older boy, Judai began playing against the man, learning the game, though never beating Koyo in a single duel. As time went on, even though Koyo had already retired, Judai lamented that the man had decided to retire with his most recent game. But once Judai was released, he continued to visit every day, and the day before Koyo’s release from the hospital, he told Judai to meet him for their final duel, to build his greatest deck, and that it’d be their last.
Arriving at the established time, other guests and staff from the hospital had gathered to watch the game. It had become something of an event for those who knew Koyo and Judai, and it was at this time that Midori would give Judai his first duel disk. As the duel started it was plainly apparent that the deck Judai had built was the most fitting, given that it would be their last game, as Yuki had elected to use an Elemental HERO deck.
In an intense final duel, Judai would find out after his loss that not only would Koyo not retire, but he’d hold his position at the top of the dueling world, waiting for Judai to someday meet him there. But in Koyo’s next match he would collapse, due to a curse inflicted on him by Traegodia, and be placed into critical care; eventually slipping into a coma. As a parting gift, before they’d spend an extended time away from one-another, Midori would give Judai Koyo’s deck, including his one-of-a-kind Elemental HERO Earth, and his most prized card, the Winged Kuriboh. On some level, even if Koyo couldn’t continue dueling, the spirit in Koyo’s Winged Kuriboh, and the heroes in his deck, still desired to, and it would disrespectful of her brother’s memory for them to simply gather dust because he can’t use them.
Judai, at age fourteen, would enroll into Duel Academy, after arriving late for practical exams, and dueling Professor Crowler, instead of regular exam proctors, as an intended punishment for his tardiness, and Crowler’s attempt at pruning the boy who had tested poorly on the written exams from attending. With Koyo’s superior deck, Judai was able to trounce the more experienced duelist with a combination of plays that he’d seen from Koyo’s duels on video, as well as some key draws, including Winged Kuriboh.
During his exams, Judai would meet several other students, such as Chazz Princeton, Alexis Rhodes, Sho Marufuji, and Bastion Misawa. He would become fast friends with the latter three, and due to his current ownership of Koyo’s deck become a bitter rival with Chazz, who idolized Koyo and had spoken to him directly before his last pro duel. Due to his poor written tests, and despite beating the head of Obelisk Blue’s dorm who was considered the most seasoned professor at the academy in terms of dueling, Judai was placed into the Slifer Red dormitory.
Throughout Judai’s first year at Duel Academy he would be largely undefeated during the regular term, dueling many of the Obelisk Blue students, who were mostly compromised of second and third year upperclassmen, as well as a student teacher who cheated, and Chazz Princeton himself (though without his signature card).
At the end of the year, though, Judai would enter the Genex Tournament, an event put together by headmaster Shepherd upon his return from abroad, with the two top students, Atticus Rhodes and Ryo Marufuji. While easily breezing through the preliminary event, which essentially involved dueling other students at the academy and taking their medals as per an ante situation. When reaching the finals, Judai would first duel Bastion Misawa, beating him in their rematch, before moving onto the finals for his rematch with Chazz. However, Judai would lose this duel, as Chazz made exceptional use of his signature card Light and Darkness Dragon. This was Judai’s first loss using Koyo’s deck.
In order to investigate some sort of conspiracy surrounding the tournament, particularly some of the American transfer students that had been brought along by Shepherd for the event, Judai would duel against possessed students, under the control of an Egyptian spirit Traegodia, that was somehow connected to his partner Winged Kuriboh. In which would follow Judai and friends dueling a group of individuals who were corrupted by this, as well as duels among a group of transfers from the United States campus who would participate in a special “Elites Tournament” event. Eventually, Judai and Chazz would duo duel against Traegodia when he took over the body of Duel Master America’s headmaster, winning and defeating the spirit, though resulting in the loss of Jaden’s and Chazz’s card spirits, Winged Kuriboh and Light and Darkness Dragon.
At the end of Judai’s freshman year he would return to Japan over the Summer, retooling his deck over the Summer, feeling that he had failed Koyo by losing with his deck, shifted gears to a different type of HERO deck, specifically Masked HEROs. During his Summer break, Judai would find out that defeating Traegodia woke Koyo up, and it gave Judai the opportunity to return his mentor’s cards.
Through Judai’s second year a conspiracy would arise surrounding the pro duelist Aster Phoenix, a Dual Academy America student who Judai had dueled and lost to in the Elites Tournament the year before, as well as a mysterious seer named Sartorious, who were working together to convert people around the earth, and those at Duel Academy, to a mysterious cult regarding some sort of dimensional White Hole, that created energy and light, rather than what a black hole does. Due to the graduation of Ryo and Atticus, Chazz and Judai were regarded as the top duelists, and so these two would make examples of them, by converting Chazz to this cult, and Aster defeating Judai not long after defeating Ryo on the pro tour.
Following Judai’s loss he would flee into the wilderness of the island, as through a hypnotism on the part of Sartorious, Judai was no longer able to see the faces of his cards, rendering him unable to play, which further gave him a sense of detachment from his cards, especially after losing his partner Winged Kuriboh.
While wandering in this wilderness, Judai would experience a moment of astral projection, as a series of duel spirits based on a set of cards he’d designed, and conveniently forgot, for a contest run by Seto Kaiba that would feature those cards being sent into space. These cards would explain that they were given sapience by a gentle darkness, an opposite to the hostile light that Sartorious had been corrupted by, and he’d need to help them and the gentle darkness to defeat this evil force.
With these cards, Judai would challenge Aster to a rematch, and as he drew his cards, his ability to read their faces would be restored steadily, and their abilities, along with his new HERO partner Elemental HERO Neos would allow him to turn the tables on Aster, and defeat the pro.
Upon Aster’s defeat, the Neo-Spacians were able to clear his mind of the hostile light, and cause Aster to have his own side-story regarding his own personal identity or something dumb that was longwinded and boring.
In the second Genex tournament, Judai would duel against his friends who had been swallowed by The Light, either defeating them and allowing them to return to their true state, or through trickery, appealing to their true character to allow them to overcome The Light. Despite this, and even defeating Chazz who would go on to win the tournament a second time, Judai would choose to not enter the final stages of the tournament to finally defeat Sartorious.
Though, over his Summer, Judai would withdraw, not practicing his dueling as much, and even developing something of an aversion to the game, after spending so much time essentially only dueling for stakes that involved the souls of others, or the fate of the entire world.
Going into his senior year Judai was also the only remaining upperclassman IN Slifer Red, though this solitude didn’t especially bother him, he admitted to Sho that after graduation he was contemplating retirement from Duel Monsters altogether. And as the year progressed, many of his friends would grow worried for the young man, until it reached a peak at roughly the mid-term. An evil card spirit that had been battered by both The Light of Hatred and The Gentle Darkness used the weakened heart of Judai to transport the entirety of Duel Academy Island, or rather the souls of its students, into a dimension of Duel Monsters created by the Chaos Wars, as they were referred to.
This card, Yubel, had a certain connection to Judai through a past life, and as his spirit had weakened they possessed him in order to take action as The Supreme King, evidently a version of Judai from another universe that had been their lover in another life. Yubel, controlling Judai, manipulated a series of events that forced his friends to duel for their lives, engaging in Shadow Duels that would kill a number of key players, such as many of the American transfer students, whose souls would only be returned to them in the event that the Supreme King was defeated. And even upon The Supreme King’s ultimate defeat in a duel with Sho, the spirit would then transfer to Jesse Anderson, one of the transfer students who used the one-of-a-kind Crystal Beast monsters to duel, forcing Judai to then duel Yubel for the fate of him and his schoolmates.
Though he had no way of possibly defeating Yubel’s Dark Rainbow Dragon, Judai was able to, in a last ditch effort, use the Super Polymerization card that Yubel had created as a means of fusing their dimension to the real-world as a way of fusing them and Judai together as one soul. It was through this that the gentle soul of Judai would be able to keep the warrior Yubel in check, while Yubel was able to remain connected to the one they wanted to be with most of all.
At this point, following the duel immediately, the students of Duel Academy would return in a meteor shower, returning to their regular lives, believing that Judai had sacrificed himself, before the Slifer student himself also returned roughly a month later.
As classes continued on, Judai found himself more scarred by the incidents than before, essentially having killed his classmates, and now sharing bodies with the person who had caused him to do these things, it took roughly a semester of events, including Judai’s investigation into a mysterious group of duelists who were using Shadow Games to steal souls of powerful players and card spirits, so as to resurrect what they believed to be a god, before he could even come to grips with tolerating Yubel, by playing them in his deck, and fusing them with Neos to make Neos Wiseman, a representation of what Judai and Yubel could accomplish together.
Eventually, Judai didn’t even compete in the third Genex tournament, leaving Chazz to win it in a three-tournament sweep, an impressive record that would be unbreakable for the rest of Duel Academy’s three-year structure, having lost the fun in dueling. However, the echoes of Winged Kuriboh drew Judai to a room, an old display from Judai’s first year that held a copy of Yugi Muto’s deck. The spirit drew Judai to the deck, and when he touched it, the remnants of Winged Kuriboh’s spirit displaced Judai’s soul across time, to just before the Grand Championship arc, in front of Solomon Muto’s game shop.
Running into a young Yugi Muto as he was on his way to school, an excited Judai challenged the legend to a duel. As the game progressed, Yugi could tell that something was causing Judai to hold back, and not put his whole heart into it, and thus they dueled in such a way that the game was more fun, not worrying so much about absolutely dominating, but having a good game, and as this progressed, Judai’s spirit and vigor for dueling returned to him!
Despite the match ending in a loss for Judai, he was able to return to his own time, and leave a letter for each of his friends, promising to someday see them again, and that when that day came, they could even have a duel!
Following this skipped graduation, Judai would travel the world, dueling in the minor circuits, as no large sponsors had picked up the largely inactive third year to enter the majors, dueling with others, and even connecting to other duelists who used HERO decks around the world, joining a team for Team-based dueling leagues known as Team HERO.
Two years after his graduation Judai would appear at the top of the world, with Koyo, finally ready to duel his mentor, facing off against the world champion’s Heroes with his own.
Abilities and Skills -Physical Ability: Judai was an extremely physically active youth, and was a gifted athlete. This is evident in even the physical education courses of Duel Academia, in which he outperforms many of his classmates, with only a few rivals in these specific courses. This is further enhanced when Judai fuses with Yubel, becoming able to leap from building to building, without any apparent shift in his biology or physiology. -Dueling Skill: Judai is a talented duelist, particularly skilled in the use of fusion techniques. Particularly he specializes in using monsters in combos to execute these fusions, but then later shifts to a style that relies on Mask Change for his Masked HERO cards, and then later becomes versed in Contact Fusion, and the individual strategies of the Neo-Spacian cards. Generally, Judai is accepted as being skilled in the use of any HERO card, though he stops using OmniHERO cards after returning Koyo’s deck. Despite being a freshman, Judai was able to dominate the rest of the Duel Academy Japan’s student body in duels, only losing to his rival Chazz. By adulthood he’s able to meet his mentor, and the multiple-time world champion Koyo, in a final match of The Duel Monsters World Tournament. On a technical level, Judai is especially adept at adapting to the strategies and cards of opponents, turning losing situations into his win conditions, or developing win conditions that prevent his opponents from achieving their own, such as with his Masked Heroes. --Drawing Luck: Being especially lucky, Judai Is always able to draw a card he sorely needs, rarely drawing the wrong card, unless it doesn’t matter. When Judai is beaten, it’s never because of a poor draw.
Superhuman Powers and Abilities -Human-Duel Spirit Hybrid: After using Super Polymerization, Judai and Yubel become a single entity, essentially placing him in a unique position where he is neither totally human, or totally duel spirit. As a result of his fusion with Yubel, he can enhance the duel monsters that he materializes using The Gentle Darkness. Additionally, through Yubel, he can sense the thoughts and emotions of others, and see the future, so long as it protects him from other supernatural powers, such as Hypnosis and Nightshroud. While using these powers, his eyes become the same as they were when he was the Supreme King, with one orange and one teal eye. He is also able to use Yubel’s power to project his voice beyond the range, and at a volume louder than, normally physically possible. -The Gentle Darkness: The Gentle Darkness is a semi-sentient force that is meant to counteract the Destructive Light, bringing about peace and serenity in its wake. Evidently The Supreme King was previously linked to this force. Through The Gentle Darkness now inhabiting Judai’s body, allowing it to act through him in certain situations, he can see, heard, and control Duel Monster Spirits. Additionally, he becomes able to manifest these monster spirits physically, and grant them their powers, without tapping into his Supreme King abilities.
Weaknesses and Limitations -Laziness: Judai is not a very enterprising young man, except for in the fields of dueling and athletics. Even in the case of the former, while attending a school that was solely dedicated to the studying of his favorite card game, he found himself sleeping through many lectures and the like, with grades that only narrowly allowed him to move onto subsequent grade levels, but still low enough to keep him in the Slifer Red dorm, in which there were no other third-year residents besides him. -Short Attention Span: Notably, Judai has a difficult time staying on a single subject for long stretches of time. Even during duels, when lengthy card effect descriptions or combos can easily bore Judai, especially if they aren’t particularly flashy. This can often result in him forgetting how they work, until experiencing them first-hand, in which case, he begins to commit them to memory.
Equipment and Support Gear -Judai’s Decklists Here -Duel Academy Uniform (Slifer Red): The standard Duel Academy uniform, Judai wears it even into adulthood, though he will often change the pants into a color that doesn’t so easily stain, preferring to reserve the full look for tournaments and title duels. -Duel Academy Duel Disk (Slifer Red): A standard duel disk given to the students of Duel Academy. Initially it was a 3rd Generation Duel Disk without any special modification or decoration, though in Judai’s senior year the student body were given prototype 4th Generation Disks, which didn’t require any special hologram projectors be used external to the disks themselves, that came with special house-color-based lining. -Duel Disk (Standard Model, 2nd Generation): A gift from Midori Hibiki, this was Judai’s first duel disk that he used in his duel against Koyo, and all duels leading to his time at Duel Academy. This is a standard 2nd Generation Model released after Battle City to the general public. They were notably considered expensive.

Studio Trigger Live Drawing with Tetsuya Sakurai (02/20/19): Transcript (Non-Verbatim)
Studio Trigger streamed their third Twitch live drawing at 18:00 JST on February 20, 2019. The stream features inbetween animator Tetsuya Sakurai drawing Satsuki Kiryuin from Kill la Kill, as well as producer Hiromi Wakabayashi and translator Tatsuru Tatemoto. A full video of the stream is available on Twitch here.
I’ve put together a transcript of the stream for anyone curious about the Q and A. While the transcript is not verbatim, all the meaning should still be captured.
Transcript
Tatsuru Tatemoto (Tattun): Sakurai started one year earlier than the last live drawing animator, Sato. Sakurai’s first work at Studio Trigger was in DARLING in the FRANXX. He’s been with Trigger for about two years.
Sakurai is an inbetween animator at Studio Trigger. Today, he’s going to draw Satsuki Kiryuin from Kill la Kill. He had some time to practice, so we’ll see what he has for us today. He’s a bit nervous, but he’ll give his best. I hope you enjoy the live drawing.
The producer just came in right now, but he’s going to use the restroom before he comes in.
Let’s get started with some questions on Patreon. This stream is made possible with the support of all our Patrons on Patreon. Thank you. Every bit of support is appreciated. None of the money gathered on Patreon is used as revenue for the studio. All goes to projects or staff and is much appreciated. Thank you very much.
If you would like to participate with questions, we do Q and As with the live drawings. Also, Patrons can vote on who the live drawers draw. We don’t have a link to our Twitch page on Patreon, but we will add it. The Twitch page isn’t too difficult to find and is on other social media, such as our Twitter and official site.
We do have our producer now, Hiromi Wakabayashi. He’s a regular MC for our streaming sessions.
Our first question is from Luke Roberts: “How long does it usually take to draw one frame, and how are the drawings kept so consistent with different people drawing them?”
Sakurai says that it depends on the cut. However, it generally takes about one hour to draw one inbetween frame.
Wakabayashi says that the drawings are consistent along the frames because there’s an animator—I think the direct translation is “animation director”—and they are the ones who kind of direct each frame to make sure there’s consistency throughout the series. There are episode directors who do this work.
We generally try to answer off of the questionnaires, but sometimes, we receive some questions that we obviously cannot answer for various reasons. “Can we expect a global theater release for Promare?” is an example, but I’ll ask for the hell of it.
I was not expecting such a thorough answer! Hiromi says that he would want a worldwide release if possible. There have been multiple announcements about Promare. If the opportunity allows, they want a worldwide release. Hopefully, they will get it.
We were just talking about Kill la Kill, the subject of the drawing. There was a close match between Satsuki and Nonon for this live drawing session. Nonon was just short of three votes for winning. I was secretly voting for Nonon with my own account. It’s unfortunate for the Nonon fans. Sakurai was low-key rooting for Satsuki, though, so I guess it worked out for him.
So, we’ve asked Sakurai what he usually works with. He usually likes to work digitally. When he draws for fun, he usually uses digital. When Sakurai doodles, he likes to color the illustration as well.
The next question is from Manuel Armando Marquez Gonzalez. I’m sorry if I mess up your names. The question is, “How is Trigger involved in the development of Kill la Kill the Game? And how did the project start?”
The answer was pretty long! Hopefully I can answer. Kill la Kill the Game initially started with the character designer at Arc System Works, Mori, who is the designer for BlazBlue. Mori watched Kill la Kill. Early after the airing of Kill la Kill, he pitched the idea to Arc System Works about doing a game. The idea was approved, and the idea was given to Studio Trigger’s production committee. That’s when the game project started.
The offer for the game was given pretty soon after the series ended. It’s been the works for a long time. Trigger’s involvement in the game process is to review character models and the stories. Trigger aren’t professionals when it comes to gameplay, though. Arc System Works are the professionals there because it’s their industry, so Arc System Works does the majority of that work. I hope that was a good answer for our questioner.
I was talking to Sakurai now. I get a lot of opportunities to watch animators draw, and I find it interesting that everyone has their own operation on how they draw their characters. I noticed that Sakurai kind of leaves the characters bald and draws hair later. Sakurai says that that’s just kind of how he’s doing the illustration now. There are times when he draws the hair with the face.
I questioned if Sakurai had ever drawn a fan illustration of Kill la Kill before. Sakurai drew fanart of Satsuki and Ryuko right after the final episode aired. He uploaded the piece on Twitter, so maybe you can find it. However, he makes his Twitter private, so it might be difficult to find the picture.
Wakabayashi and I asked Sakurai what his preferences for drawing are. What characters does he like to draw? Sakurai said that he preferred drawing female characters. He likes drawing female characters in long coats, like a long double coat. I guess that’s his kink!
Sakurai explained that he doodles original characters in his free time.
The next question is from Paul Schmidt, who asks, “Sakurai-san, what is it like being a Douga-man? Is it a lot of work? In a typical half-hour episode, how many frames/cuts do you have to draw? I submit anime staff credits to Anime News Network’s encyclopedia as a hobby, and I discovered your name was not in the database (at least not credited).”
I’ll split the question up.
Sakurai says that he currently enjoys being an inbetween animator, but when he first started working, he wasn’t used to the environment and wasn’t too comfortable with it. Sakurai thinks that the workload is pretty average.
Sakurai explained that it’s very difficult to calculate or put out a number for how many frames he works on per episode because each episode can be drastically different. He can maybe say how many frames he works on a week, which is maybe 50-60 frames because he does about 10 frames a day.
We asked our tech guy to pump up the volume for Sakurai’s microphone.
There’s a question that asks, “Is the iPad good for drawing?” I can’t pronounce the questioner’s name.
The third-generation iPad is very good for drawing. Today, we were planning to use the latest model of Cintiq 16 from Wacom for drawing, but it was broken when we tried to test with it. We had it fixed for stream, but we didn’t have enough time to set it up, so we’re using Intuos 5 today. Fortunately, Sakurai likes working with Intuos 5, and it’s his personal item that he brought with him today. He’s working in a preferred environment. We’re not forcing him to work with unfamiliar equipment.
There are a lot of questions regarding Inferno Cop season 2 on the chat log right now. Hiromi says that Studio Trigger wants to do it! However, the issue they’re having right now is that they have so much actual animation work to do. Inferno Cop is an animation as well, but there’s so much on Trigger’s to-do list that they haven’t gotten around to Inferno Cop yet. Ideally, Hiromi says, they only want to work on comical series, but to keep the studio going, they have to do actual work.
It has been a while since the studio has done anything with Inferno Cop, so Hiromi has talked to the studio about doing some more Inferno Cop along the line, though.
Sakurai is struggling with the shoulder parts of Satsuki, Wakabayashi says. Satsuki’s shoulder pads are difficult to draw! When Studio Trigger was designing the character, there were parts put in that Wakabayashi thought would cause a lot of problems for animators.
Wakabayashi says that they had some slight hope that some animators would find it entertaining to draw Satsuki’s shoulder pads. They would have to think about how the shoulder pads would move and work at different angles.
Our previous animator, Mr. Sato, likes drawing mechs and robots on top of characters. I was curious if Sakurai likes drawing mechs as well. Sakurai doesn’t like drawing non-organic objects, though he does like drawing the little details in clothing. Sakurai likes drawing the arm portion of coats, like the creases and stuff. He likes the little details.
There’s a question from Oscar Manjarrez, who asks, “How are the figures made? Do you reach out to Good Smile or other companies to make them, or is it the other way around? Just wondering if a Ryuko Figma would be made in her street clothing.”
Wakabayashi says it works both ways. Trigger does approach the figure companies in the pre-production portion of production. Trigger pitches that they’re making a certain kind of animation or series and asks if the company would be interested in making merchandise. If the company is interested in making merchandise, they can start making merchandise earlier and release the figures during the airing of the series.
What usually happens is that the company watches the studio’s animation and series and has their own interest. If the series is publicly well known, a company might make an attempt to make a figure. They want a profit as well, so they might ask to make a figure of one of the studio’s characters.
It’s not a Figma, but there was a jacket version of Ryuko from Medicom Toy. It’s a very big and pretty pricey figure.
There was a question from a user named by nora_soncho in our Twitch chat log. They ask if Promare will get a lot of figures and figurines.
The answer is “hopefully.” However, Wakabayashi doesn’t see a lot of figures being made for original movie titles. They’re pretty confident with the title, and they can only hope, and they wouldn’t be too surprised if figures were made possible.
We asked Sakurai if he likes collecting figurines or buying them. His response is sadly that he has just a few; he doesn’t really have an appreciation for figures. For hobbies, he likes playing games. He likes both console and PC games. He appreciates indie titles on Steam more.
Wakabayashi was curious if Sakurai knew about Indivisible. One of Trigger’s lead animators worked on the opening sequence for the game. Sakurai knows about the game and the company.
JxSam asks, “How did you guys pick Raemz to do some promotional Trigger art last month? It’s pretty inspiring to see someone non-Japanese be featured like that!”
I don’t think Raemz is the first non-Japanese person we’ve asked to do the Studio Trigger illustration of the month. I think we’ve had others. To answer your question, several of our staff, myself included, liked her art. I just approached her in the Comic Market, or maybe a different event. We were fortunate enough that she agreed to draw for us.
Apparently, Sakurai has finished doing the roughs. Now, he’s working on the final draft of the lines.
Evandro997 says, “Do Trigger receive a lot of portfolios from overseas? If yes, what do you think about them?”
Wakabayashi says they receive overseas portfolios from time to time, but he doesn’t think that they receive them often. They obviously do review these portfolios when they get them, though.
We asked Sakurai if he streams drawings on his private time. He says that he draws for fun, but he’s never streamed before. He’s a little nervous and uncomfortable because people can see all the little mistakes he made. People can see his in-progress illustration, which he thinks is kind of embarrassing.
Sakurai is using an Intuos 5 tablet today, the medium size.
Wakabayashi asked Sakurai about how he feels about Patreon and other financial support that Trigger receives from the fans. Sakurai responded that he appreciates Patreon and the financial support; it feels good.
Wakabayashi says that something like Patreon is a very foreign culture in Japan; there’s no culture of tipping in Japan. People don’t give money because they appreciate others’ work. Simply put, Wakabayashi is happy that they receive so much support from everyone.
There’s a question from Patreon, from Bill Erak, who asks, “So, how much power do producers have on a show? Like, oftentimes I see that there were decisions made by writers, others by directors, and others by producers. Writers and directors I kind of understand, but if producers have too much power, wouldn’t that make them straight-up directors, too?”
Wakabayashi says the answer to this question depends on the project. For example, a particular project might be started up by producers. A producer might go and find a director that they want their particular series directed by, as well as the staff that they want. In that case, the producer obviously has an agenda that he wants to pursue. He will probably comment here and there on how he wants the series to be executed. There are times when producers might have absolutely no say, though. A project might be very creative driven, where the director and scriptwriter will basically choose every finer detail of the project, and the producer is just there to make the process as stress free as possible.
Wakabayashi says that he can’t speak for other studios. However, with Studio Trigger, not any one person (scriptwriter, director, producer, etc.) has too much power. That’s just Trigger, though. The situation might be different in different studios.
Wakabayashi says that at Studio Trigger, they also feel that you don’t have to be a director, scriptwriter, producer, etc. to provide input. They welcome input regardless of position.
Sakurai is explaining that he’s making a lot of mistakes right now. However, that’s the benefit of drawing digitally. You can make as many mistakes as you want, CTRL+Z, and it’s gone. That’s not the case in physical drawing. You have to erase, and the paper gets worn out.
I explained this a bit earlier. One of our Twitch viewers asked in Japanese if Sakurai wants to work with… I guess digital tablets? I don’t know the correct term in English, but they asked if Sakurai was interested in working with a tablet like Cintiq.
Sakurai was interested initially. We bought a Cintiq 16 one for this stream and tried to test it out. However, when we tried to test a few days ago, there were problems with the equipment. We had to get the tablet repaired. As such, Sakurai is instead using his own tablet, the Intuos 5, which is what he usually draws with.
What time is it in Ukraine right now?
Would Studio Trigger accept donations and have Twitch stamps? We don’t have plans at the moment, but to be honest, we haven’t looked into it too much.
For people living in the east coast, west coast, or wherever where it’s like 3:00 or 5:00 am, please don’t deprive yourself of sleep. There should be a VOD enabled, so you can watch later.
We had a question if this is the studio that worked on Evangelion. Wakabayashi says not really! They’re the sidekick, like the Robin to Batman!
Wakabayashi says that he’ll maybe look into making a stamp. However, if they have to make it, that’s a lot of work that has to go in. They’ll look into it.
It looks like Sakurai has finished the face and is working on the body.
Wakabayashi was the creative officer for Kill la Kill. He commented on Sakurai’s drawing, saying that it looks just like Satsuki!
Wakabayashi is curious about what Sakurai wants to do in the future. Sakurai obviously wants to move up to a key frame animator. Then, he wants to do episodic directing, which is meaty directing on individual episodes. He wants to create something that is highly influenced by his own creative touch. He possibly wants to do a one-man ending sequence where all of the frames are executed by him.
Sakurai doesn’t ultimately want to become a director. He wants to take big steps and go up the ranks of the animators in the industry.
Wakabayashi says that it’s good to have a goal. It’s a motivating factor.
Studio Trigger is a lot more open to ideas, Wakabayashi adds. They try to provide opportunities to the staff. So, if animators keep saying that they’re interested in something and keep telling executives of their interest, sooner or later, it will happen. Wakabayashi says to keep trying.
Blademaster223 asks, “Will Trigger hire more foreign animators if the language barrier problem is solved?”
The question is a little broad, so Wakabayashi’s answer might not be the exact answer you’re expecting. The reason that Studio Trigger can’t hire foreign animators and staff is for a multitude of reasons. Trigger does work with a lot of foreign creators, like with Little Witch Academia and Promare. They don’t come to the studio, but Trigger works with a lot of overseas staff.
There are language barriers, but there are also financial issues. Visas cost a lot of money to obtain. Trigger isn’t big enough to sustain the money for visas.
Again, we covered a similar question in our previous stream as well. In today’s day and age, with all these technologies, you don’t have to be living in Japan to work with a particular entity. You can work online. That’s how Trigger does a lot of transaction with overseas creatives. There are staff like myself, who help with online translations all the time.
I think everyone is too concerned that they have to live in Japan to work with a Japanese studio. That might have been the case like 10 years ago, but I don’t think that’s the case today.
Hiromi asked if Sakurai watches overseas animation. Sakurai watches Disney and Pixar. Sakurai is very excited for Spider-Verse, which is coming out very late in Japan.
It’s very difficult to create those kinds of stunning visuals in Japan, Wakabayashi says. They’re interested in seeing what the movie is like.
Has Sakurai received any influence? Does he like Japanese animation? He likes Evangelion, specifically the reboot. He likes the newer, theatrical Evangelion and appreciates it more because it’s the first Evangelion he saw. The title was Rebuild of Evangelion. The fourth installment is in production right now. Sakurai is curious to see where it goes!
Sakurai doesn’t really have a favorite director, but he does appreciate Mr. Anno’s work. He did appreciate Shin Godzilla as well. Sakurai’s preference is more serious. He likes more serious anime over more comical ones.
Sakurai thinks that Studio Trigger’s method of direction or artistic touch is very American. [Wakabayashi laughs.] Wakabayashi says that is very exclusive to Imaishi’s work.
Are there any favorite Japanese anime series aside from movies that Sakurai likes? He likes the works from Kyoto Animation, though he doesn’t have any particular titles.
I asked Sakurai if he tried applying for Kyoto Animation before Trigger. Sakurai said that he only applied for Trigger, and I asked why. Why wouldn’t he want to work at the studio he likes most? Sakurai explained that he wants to keep what he likes… I don’t know if I can translate well. He wants to be able to enjoy his favorite thing as a hobby and not make it work.
The reason why Sakurai chose Studio Trigger over other studios is because he felt that the art direction seemed like it would be the most interesting to work with. It was the catchiest to him.
Hiromi explained that Sakurai has an interesting perspective. Instead of going to a serious studio and being serious there, it might be good to go to a less-serious studio so that you kind of stand out there.
We asked Sakurai how frequently he draws for fun. He says he draws for fun pretty much every day. At work, he draws in his free time. At home, he draws digitally as well.
This is a question from Zack Gould for Wakabayashi. He asks, “At Anime Expo 2018, you mentioned that if you work on any kind of project along with Imaishi, you would want to do something in the same vein as Panty and Stocking. I personally am also incredibly interested in seeing more hyper-sexual/hyper-violent works from you two, so I need to ask: has there been any discussion about it further than the mention at Anime Expo?”
This isn’t a direct translation, but Wakabayashi says Imaishi likes very orthodox series. He likes working on series like Gurren Lagann and Kill la Kill. He likes throwing in a sucker punch like Panty and Stocking and Luluco and taking turns between the two. Wakabayashi says that he would think that Promare is very orthodox. Promare’s genre is super-lit-mega-action-rescue-human drama!
I’m not going to translate what Wakabayashi just said. I’m sorry! I don’t think it’s possible. It’s too difficult. There’s a lot of play on words that I don’t think is possible to translate. If you can translate it, kudos to you. I’m not going to try, though!
I’ll translate what Wakabayashi said now, however. Promare is made for an all-ages audience. They’re not really goofing around this time. Everyone can enjoy the movie.
Hiromi was curious. Sakurai said earlier that he’s interested in animating his own worldview and making his own directed scenes and such. Hiromi was curious if Sakurai wanted to do concept art as well because that’s kind of exporting your own image into a visual illustration. I guess Sakurai is potentially interested in doing concept arts in the future.
Sakurai doesn’t really draw backgrounds or board-like illustrations in his free time, but he is currently studying how to at the moment. Sakurai explained that he’s not used to drawing and talking at the same time. I can’t even draw with my full attention, so I don’t think anyone can blame him for struggling to talk and draw at the same time.
I guess Sakurai’s self-pitch for his illustration of Satsuki today is that he gave a lot of effort to the shoulder parts, so once he’s finished drawing, check out the shoulders! It would be much appreciated.
“Tattun, are you an animator, too?” I wish! I wish I could draw. I wish I could draw all the time so that I could draw lewd pictures, but that is not the case.
This is a question from RYUUy that asks, “What are your favorite drawing exercises that helped you the most getting better?”
Sakurai says to watch a lot of other anime. Watch a lot of other creators’ illustrations and try to figure out what you appreciate and like drawing the most. When you figure out what you like and appreciate to draw the most, then that helps your own process with getting better at drawing.
Apparently, it’s Shiny Chariot’s birthday today. She’s one year older. I’m not sure she appreciates that!
Hiromi was curious. He just found out today that Little Witch Academia is that kind of series where you choose all the characters’ profiles. That’s not the case for Nakashima’s work like Gurren Lagann and Kill la Kill. That’s because Nakashima doesn’t want people to have a biased opinion of the character because their birthday is on a certain date. He wants the viewers to view his characters in the purest form.
I’m getting a lot of comments regarding the dice for the birthdays. I think I used a Dungeons and Dragons-type template to come up with the birthdays for the Little Witch Academia characters. Some of the birthdays were changed intentionally by the producer, obviously, but some birthday dates are completely random.
This is a question from Familiar Stranger_: “If you could remake any non-Japanese cartoon however you wanted, which cartoon would you do?” Hiromi says that it’s not a cartoon, but he would like to work with Star Wars.
Sakurai explains that he’s not too familiar with western cartoons. He doesn’t have any franchise that he would like to reboot under his name, but he would like to see Powerpuff Girls with Yoshinari’s touch. I agree that this would be nice!
We’re planning to stream for another 90 minutes. That’s how long we have the room for. However, if there are no other people booking the room after that, we might be able to extend if Sakurai doesn’t finish in an hour and a half. So, we maybe have an hour and a half to go!
This is another question from Patreon. It’s from Kikoman589. The original question was from Thorn14. The question is, “Are there seasons (winter/spring/summer/fall) that are easier or harder on anime studios?”
Wakabayashi says that Trigger doesn’t really have a laid-back season. Obviously, this would depend on the studio as well, though. As a studio, they have the most free time available when they finish a series. There’s an interval time between two projects.
Wakabayashi personally wants a project that doesn’t go over New Year’s Eve. He wants days off. The end of the year is one of the very few times that Japanese people get legitimate times off from work. They just want to take a break when allowed to.
We recently announced that we’re selling a Studio Trigger custom suitcase. There’s a question if we’d sell the suitcase to overseas audiences. I believe the suitcase we’re selling is sold through Good Smile Company? Obviously, the shipment is going to be nasty, but I don’t see why not. We’ll look into it! We don’t have whoever’s in charge of that with us right now. Since we’re not using any IP, I don’t think there’s a problem with selling the suitcase overseas, but the price of the shipment would be high.
I think the question was, “Will Trigger ever do Isekai—is that the term in English?—genre?”
Wakabayashi’s answer is that Trigger has so many other things that they want to do that they don’t have any plans to do that kind of series in the near future. If they do an Isekai, they’ll probably do their own original Isekai series, though, not an adaptation.
There was a question in Japanese. “How was the opening and ending song determined in this particular series?”
Wakabayashi says that if the creative staffs for a particular series want to throw in their own opinion or two cents for what opening or ending will be used for a particular series, then they might make a request to the production committee, which usually has a production label company within it, who would be the sponsors for a particular series. The creative team might make a request to the label company, saying that they want this type of music or soundtrack, and the label might try their best to accommodate the request to the best of their abilities.
In the case that the creative team doesn’t really have any preference, the music production label company usually will make the decision themselves. For Studio Trigger, it depends on which production group is involved as well.
Imaishi or Hiromi Wakabayashi’s creative team does usually make specific requests to label companies. What Wakabayashi generally sees from the director is that the director is usually more interested in choosing who is in charge of the soundtrack for the series than the opening/ending themes.
Sorry! I’m taking a one-minute absence from the keyboard. My throat is drying up, and I need to buy some kind of drink.
Sorry, I’m back. I believe they’re talking about the program Sakurai is using right now. He’s using Sai. I’m not sure if that program is well-known among the western community, but Sai is a pretty popular program in Japan. People generally use Sai or Clip Studio in Japan. Sakurai explained that in Sai, it’s easier to paint. He usually finishes all his process of illustration in one program.
Sakurai’s reason for using Sai over Clip Studio Paint is that Sai isn’t too demanding on the hardware. The user interface is pretty simple, too. Sakurai has also been using the program for a while.
This is our third stream. All of our animators so far have used a different program! It’s an interesting showcase. Yoshinari used Photoshop and Painter. I think Sato used MediBang Paint. Sakurai is using Sai. I think we’re only missing Clip Studio Paint now.
If you’re interested in getting into drawing digitally, you can check out our archive on YouTube and see how each individual program functions. You can choose which program works best for you.
We asked what creative artists Sakurai respects a lot. He said Minamino Aki. I guess this particular creator was in DARLING in the FRANXX as well, as an outfit designer.
Sakurai also likes mebae and Uki as well. Uki is obviously known for Cencoroll. Wakabayashi says that Cencoroll is one of those frontiers. It was a title that was early for its time. Uki kind of made Cencoroll by himself. There were other creators mentioned as well, like Shinkai, who is probably very well known by now but who is still working pretty much solo.
Sakurai didn’t really read manga prior to becoming an animator, but if he had to choose a title, it would be Danjon Meshi. I’m Googling for an English title. I guess it’s Dungeon Lunch.
When we asked Sakurai what games he likes, he said Breath of the Wild for Zelda. I asked Sakurai what other Zelda games he played. There was this one Gameboy title. I don’t know what it’s called in English… it’s The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening. The game is being released on Switch soon. I guess Sakurai is playing Splatoon and Smash Brothers a lot as well. Sakurai’s favorite PC game is Cave Story.
There’s a question from maxie721: “Does Studio Trigger have any after-activities after work? Sports, Mario Party, etc.? Or only Nomikai???”
Sakurai says he occasionally goes drinking with his colleagues. Hiromi apparently goes straight home. Hiromi hangs out enough with his colleagues because his work hours are unfortunate for him.
I guess Sakurai doesn’t play games with his colleagues. His taste of games is different from the rest of the crew. He also likes playing the same game for hours. His colleagues like trying out different titles more. At Studio Trigger, Switch is popular. Everyone is playing Smash Brothers.
Maybe we’ll do a Kill la Kill stream once the game is released. I believe it’s available for PS4 and Steam at the moment.
There was a comment saying that we must be playing FGO. I guess Sakurai doesn’t play any mobile games or app games anymore. Hiromi plays a lot of Granblue. I hate app games with a passion and don’t play any of them.
Hiromi is saying that the selling point of the app games is that you can pick them up any time and enjoy them whenever you want. You don’t have to go through the hassle of turning them on and stuff. It’s an easier version of “plug it in and play.”
I won’t name it, but one of my favorite titles was ruined by app games, so I don’t like app games!
I guess Hiromi was saying that the more passionate gamer tends to hate app games. Sakurai says it’s an interface issue. You feel like you have to get the controller-in-hand feel better.
My favorite game ruined by apps wasn’t Diablo, by the way. I gave up on Diablo after Diablo III.
This is a question from Patreon, from Alex B, who says, “Tweeners are the most interesting job! So excited to have an inbetweener doing this! The real heroes in anime! How did you get into the job? What about it do you find interesting? Would you prefer to have a different role in the animation production process?”
We’ve covered a little of the question already, but I think it’s interesting to ask why Sakurai was initially interested in applying to Trigger.
Sakurai wanted to be an inbetween animator or become an animator because he wanted to get better at drawing. He initially started drawing in his high school days. He was trying to draw his favorite character from a social app game, and things got out of hand from there.
When you’re an inbetween animator or an animator in general, you’re not always drawing what you want to draw. There’s also a high level of skill required because you have to draw a lot of different angles, etc. Being an animator is the right place to be to get better at drawing.
We got confirmation that our room is extended for five more hours. I don’t think this stream will take that long, though. I don’t want to keep you guys deprived of sleep for that long, either. I think Sakurai will finish in maybe another 30 minutes or so. Sakurai is adding highlights and shadows now, so he’s prepping to finish up the job right now.
We’re explaining now that even younger animators these days are getting really good. The level of technique that younger animators have now is unmatched to what we saw when we were younger. When Yoshinari was younger, Hiromi doesn’t think animators were as good. It’s like the Olympics. 30-40 years ago, the demonstrations at the Olympics were still outstanding feats, but you can see how much humanity or mankind has improved since then.
There’s a comment being made right now saying that the animation budget was higher in the 80s. Hiromi claims that this is not true. Budget doesn’t really equal quality, I guess, if that’s the right term. There might have been a high-budget project here and there, but the general consensus is that the budget was the same in the 80s as it is now.
There’s a lot to put into consideration, though. There’s a lot more staff working on a project now compared to in the 80s. There’s a different amount of budget allocated at a different time. What determines the quality of the project more is the passion of the creators. Passion has a lot more to do with the quality than the budget, Hiromi says.
However, I would like to note that more budget will obviously help. With more budget, Studio Trigger can maintain a larger staff, which helps with quality. What ultimately affects how fun and entertaining a project is is how involved the staff is in the production.
axelsaurus asks, “Sorry to ask again, but can we hope for some Trigger ‘Parallel Works,’ like the TTGL ones? KLK spin-off shorts are in my wet dreams.”
If you’re looking for a spin-off of Kill la Kill, Hiromi believes that the game, Kill la Kill the Game: IF, will satisfy your thirst for a parallel work. It’s going to feature Satsuki as the main character. It’s a “what if” story examining if Satsuki was the main protagonist for the series. If you’re interested, Hiromi thinks it is well worth the money. The script is also done by Nakashima himself.
There was a question regarding how artists keep themselves motivated in drawing. Sakurai explains that keeping an old archive of all of your artwork and trying to compare it with your more recent work to see how much you’ve improved is a good way to see if you’re making any progress.
Also, Sakurai likes posting on the Internet and receiving feedback or praise. That’s always a plus.
There’s a question from syworks: “Is there any secret to keep your wrists from overstraining from working so long and so many hours?”
Sakurai says that he doesn’t really have any secrets for that. If you work too much in a single day, his hands do get sore. He has to take breaks in between and relieve the stress in the middle. He doesn’t really have any secrets.
We asked Sakurai if he has a Twitter or pixiv account he would like to share with the community. He says he doesn’t want to show it and is a little uneasy right now, but maybe one day, he’ll make it public.
Another question is, “How great is Studio Trigger’s snack/bar pantry? What delicious treats do staff have access to?”
I guess that Studio Trigger doesn’t really have a bar/pantry. They want one. People do receive snacks or gifts from fans that is available for anyone in the studio to take in the middle. As such, there’s not something specific that they always have.
Studio Trigger do want a kitchen or bar. In the studios that Trigger was able to tour overseas, they found that every studio had some kind of pantry, even if it was just a cereal buffet. Wakabayashi thought it was cool and wanted one in Trigger, too. Maybe when Trigger has more money.
Hiromi is saying that, knowing himself very well, even if there was a pantry, kitchen, or bar, he’d probably get bored of the menu or whatever is available pretty quickly. He’d probably only use it once or twice.
I disagree, though. I know Hiromi likes coffee. I would use the snack/pantry if we had one!
We probably can’t do a studio tour stream. It’s probably not possible. We’d have to tear down a lot of the studio to avoid anything being leaked!
Maybe we could put the GoPro on a Hot Wheel and have a quick, short tour, but it probably wouldn’t happen. There would be too much risk!
There’s a question from luluraoul in Japanese: “Are there any plans for future streams?” We usually communicate with our Patreon for our streams. The goal is to stream once a month. That’s a goal, but we don’t always do a good job on it. We have had three streams, and the Patreon has been active for longer than three months. We do a stream about once every 2.5 months. We will have a stream in the future, and we’ll continue to do so until our Patreon dries up.
We actually have our next participant chosen, an outside creator. She’s kind of not Trigger, but she works with us very frequently. She’s Mago, the character designer for Space Patrol Luluco and our mascot characters. She was supposed to stream this month, but there were schedule conflicts, so she’ll stream next month. Our fourth stream is very, very soon. We’ll make an announcement about that stream early next month.
I don’t know Mago’s Twitter account off the top off my head, but I think it’s magodesu. She’s pretty active on Twitter. She’ll probably come up easily if you search. Yes, it seems magodesu is her Twitter.
I guess Sakurai is using a very unique method of adding this lighting gradation.
There’s a question from EiGi696969 that asks, “Recently, the Studio Trigger documentaries have been focused more on the voice actors and less on the artists (Kill la Kill or LWA or Kiznaiver and FRANXX). Have you guys switched the documentary production team? Would you mind in the future if you can make sure there’s more into the art stuff in these documentaries?”
Hiromi is saying, just FYI, at least half of the documentary for FRANXX was focused on the artists. The focus on voice actors is… they want to focus on their creative process more, but it’s straining to the studio if there’s an entire camera crew filming all the time. It’s detrimental to the schedule. That’s maybe why there is less footage of the creative process portion. I guess it’s something that we want to focus on more, but we might not have been able to. It didn’t really come up to our minds until it was just mentioned now, Hiromi says.
Wakabayashi says that a lot of the staff don’t like being recorded or photographed. Also, the documentaries are more entertaining if the camera crews come in without respect of the creators. That kind of footage is more entertaining, but we can’t do that because our creators are delicate individuals. Personally, Hiromi wants more documentaries focused on the creative process, though.
Sakurai apparently finished his illustration. We’re asking him to zoom in a little bit right now.
That was it for the live drawing. For those who are interested in the Sai composition files for this illustration, if you’re part of our Patreon, you’ll have access to this and our previous illustrations as well. If you had a great time, feel free to support our studio and creators. We much appreciate it!
Thank you, everyone! There are about 1,200 of you at this weird, awkward time on a weekday. Our next stream is with Mago in early March. Thank you for joining our stream! We’ll be wrapping up our stream now.

SPN Season 15 Spoiler Sheet, update 10/9
There was a LOT of stuff out there from the past couple of days, so I’ll update again. Man, I am really pumped about tomorrow!
General Info (oldest to newest)
There is likely to be 20 episodes
They are filming the 4th episode 1st, which Jensen is directing
Returning this year are: Rowena, Ketch, Eileen,Amara, Adam, and Kevin
Jared and Jensen know the ending. Jensen struggled with it at first. Misha does not know the ending as of SDCC
Matt Cohen and Richard Speight Jr. will direct
Sam, Dean, and Cas will struggle with the concept of free will and if they ever really had it
The focus will be more on Hell than Heaven
There is hope to wrap up some Wayward Daughters storylines in the back half of the season
They are adding a whole extra day to filming to do the final scene (Implies logistics- lots of returning people?)
Brad Bucker used the word “romance” when asked about Sam and Dean’s arcs. Did not specify who.
Chuck will be more of an absent protagonist in the 1st half of the season (but he in in ep 4)
At the beginning of the season Dean and Cas will still have a rift. They will reconcile “at some point”. Jensen claims as of script 4 they still have friction. This has been repeated several times, from Misha as well. He indicated Dean is still mad at Cas, but Cas doesn’t feel to blame for Mary’s death.
In an interview, Kripe indicated that the series ending would have “peace” for Sam and Dean
Not much new at the TCA’s, but it was said it is “unlikely” Jeffery Dean Morgan will be back since his last appearance was such a good end note. There were some jokes about a Castiel spin off. Hell, I’d watch.
There will be a special tribute ep, not clear if its one of the 20 or additional
Misha will be in 15 out of 20 episodes this season
According to Dabb, Sam and Dean are going to start to lose people who, in past seasons, we would’ve never lost — and lose them in a very real way. Our guys are going to realize there’s a certain finality, and some of the things they’ve relied on to get through the day — people, talents, things like that — they are no longer going to be able to roll out. And that’s going to throw them for a loop (Unfortunately, my guess in Rowena)
Also according to Dabb, Jack is still in the empty and “he’s not coming back in the near future” (this makes no sense. He’s on set for several episodes- interacting with the boys)
Cas’ deal with the Empty may come up later in the season.
Kevin will return.
Season 15 promo: https://youtu.be/V232RpcCdTY
Christan Kane (Leverage/Angel) will star as “Leo” an “old friend” of Deans.
Dabb intimated that Chuck was inherently responsible for killing Mary when asked how the boys would respond to Jack.
Adam Rose, who played Aaron Bass from the golem episode vauge-tweeted about working a show with two badass leads. Could be Supernatural, but I think the timing is off- he indicated he was filming late Friday night.
General season 15 promo- more of a retrospective: https://youtu.be/_hlkNQL5Ecg
Dabb compared Chuck and John Winchester, claiming that Dean would have to break free of “conditioning.” Also, for Jack “there have been cosmic forces fighting for his attention since he was in the womb — and that will continue. As much as this season is about Sam and Dean finding agency, it’s also about Castiel finding agency, and it’s about Jack finding agency. As always, death is never the end. It’s just part of the journey and that’s certainly true with Jack.”
Per Variety: At the outset of the season, the “Supernatural” foursome of Dean, Sam, Castiel and Jack are split up, but Dabb notes they won’t be for long because “ultimately this is a found family, and they have deep emotional bonds” that make up the most important part of the show.
Sam’s wound from the equalizer gives his powers/an advantage of some kind (per TVGuide)
Jack will be a critical part of the ending of the show
The cage/Adam is looking like it will be coming up for midseason
Shaving People, Punting Things: https://youtu.be/azTwku2uosA
The shaving promo, punting things promo shows glimpses or Lucifer!Sam and MOC!Dean, as well as bearded Dean in tactical equipment.
Episode 15x01

Other Spoilers/info:
The first episode will start right where the previous left off
Misha posed with the John Wayne Gacy clown
Jensen posted a series of pics- one clean shaven, one vid of him shaving, and one where he appeared to be in character with blood and dirt on his face and in Dean plaid, but with his beard… confusing- some time jump theories are developing for ep 4.
Jensen was photoed filming (wearing an FBI jacket)outside with Alex
Misha and Jared filmed outside with a woman and young girl. They were running from the clown guy and a few other zombie looking creatures. CAS WAS NAKED (haha just no trench) and holding a shotgun. It could have been rehearsal and there was no camera in the clip shared by a fan which might explain the coat? Another fan said it was hot and Misha kept taking the coat off, so I’m sure this just a piece of rehearsal footage.
Alex was filming in white sunglasses. Other set photos indicate he had makeup on his eyes making them look burnt out. There is some spec that Jack will come back blind.
Misha posted a pic of the 4 of them in the impala
According to Variety, the boys will escape the zombies in a temp shelter. They are working together, but Cas feel “detached.” Misha seems to indicate that Cas feels unfairly blamed in Mary’s death and is deeply upset about Jack.
According to TVGuide, after they fight past the zombies, they end up in a mausoleum. They end up making a “deal with the devil” to get out. This is particularly upsetting to Cas.
Posing as FBI agents, the boys seal off the town as a gas leak to contain the monsters temporarily.
Dean’s time in hell is brought up
Sam’s wound might have more meaning
Jack’s body is being used by an entity that will help the boys get out of the zombie situation.

Guest stars: Ruth Connell, David Haydn-Jones, Rob Benedict, Osric Cho, Emily Swallow (?)
Other Spoilers/info :
A set was a high school set up to be a shelter.
Kevin, Chuck, Ketch and Rowena will be in this. Maybe Amara too. Emily Swallow was in town for only a short time, so I imagine it would just be a scene or two
Ghosts/zombies were seen on set. There will be a scene with Rowena attacking them that includes at least Dean and Cas.
There will be one longer scene in a park.
Alex was in sunglasses again - not sure if this is a costume thing or an Alex thing
Ruth posted two vids of Misha claiming that he had filmed several scenes, but had no dialog - over three days so it must be a scripted reason (A spell? Chuck? Is he giving Dean the silent treatment?)
Ruth posted a video with her trailer, but the video showed Alex’s as well, so Jack
Misha posted from set in costume. Minus the coat again, but I’m still blaming the heat…. But he was without in the two Ruthie videos as well… soo……? I don’t know. I still think it's a heat issue.
Night shoots are scheduled in a warehouse. Hand painted signs indicating quarantine were nearby
Kevin is back

Other Spoilers/info:
Jensen directed
Misha will not be in this ep
SD Comic Con was during filming
Jensen mentioned a guest star “fan favorite” that hasn’t been seen since season 7 that is no longer in the business. Guesses include Becky, who hasn’t acted in a while but isn't exactly a fan favorite, Meg, who hasn't acted but she was in season 8, and Balthazar or Frank or Jo or Rufus, but all act frequently. Jensen doesn't always have the most accurate season memory, so he could be off on the season. Since this seems like a Chuck episode, my guess is Becky but I hope for Meg. SOURCE UNCONFIRMED- I haven’t seen this in a reliable source, so take it with a grain of salt. UPDATE- sounds like Becky in the Shaving People, Punting things trailer.
There was a beaver mascot on set… it looks like they are filming at a school called Beaverdale
Jensen and Jared filed outside in fed suits
Chuck will be in this one. Jensen directed him first alone with his beard unshaved (so maybe a solo Chuck scene or him interacting with others/not the boys). There are also theories of a time jump in this ep.
This will be a one off, classic monster hunting episode with some ties to ongoing storylines. Sam and Dean will leave the bunker to keep their skills sharp
Dean will be in the bunker in tactical equipment with a BEARD- fighting someone who looks like trenchless Cas.

This will most likely be Yockey’s last episode.
Matt Cohen was around, but I imagine he is following directors to prep for his own debut directing.
Scenes were filmed in the bunker and in a wooded area. A woman could be heard screaming in the outside scene.

Other Spoilers/info :
Misha posted from set in new shoes- very shiny with well tailored pants. (The next day he posted in full Cas costume, so are the shoes a one off? Another outfit with new shoes?)
Misha and Jensen made a video from set. I feel like if Jared was around he would have been in it since it was about money raised? Maybe a Dean Cas scene?
There will be a battle scene in this that Jensen mentioned he was looking forward to and we would enjoy.
After NJ Con, it appeared that Jensen returned to work, Jared and Misha stayed an extra day and then Misha went home.
Jensen and Christian filmed at a bar called Swazey’s. This was the fight scene Jensen was referring to.
At some point, Sam might be shirtless or we can see part of his chest- Jared had his anti-possession tattoo at the weekend convention.
Per TVGuide, Leo and Dean will have a wild night out in an effort for Dean to recapture his mojo. Dean will become the lead of a band called Dean and the Impalas, which is made up of Supernatural crew.
Osric Chau popped over to set, but he is filming on Legends of Tomorrow in the same studio.

14.04 Round-Up
Here, have a Nash-Is-Running-On-Fumes round-up.
Disagree on Salem Ohio. Shoulda gone Indiana. Why would you choose Salem, anyway? Given that this has nothing to do with witchy anything? Wait, does it? [Post-show pseudo-addendum: Nope.]
Shocker. Like, THE Shocker, or... 😳 *ahem*
What is the fixation with giving characters the same/similar names?
[Post-show pseudo-addendum: I get the shtick for the purposes of this episode, not entirely the point, keep reading]
And I'm also not talking about super-duper-common names (Jane, Mary, etc.), I get how those would naturally come up over the course of 13/14 years. I mean they’re fixated on the same names for women that have more than a just-passing-through role.
This chick is Sam, short for Samantha. So why not just call her Samantha? Especially given the tone of their conversation, we don’t typically revert to nicknames when we’re pissed, we typically dial it up to full first names (and for parents, to full first-and-middle). Nope, gotta be "Sam". And he said it three times. Three times in a conversation that maybe lasted a minute, to make sure we got it.
WE GOT IT
Welcome, Sam-Specifically-Not-Samantha! Meet Anna, Hannah, Anael, Jessica, Jo, Josie, Jody, Jessica, and Jo. Hope you don't die! PS: your hair is phenomenal.
I was about to say - I'd be in my room with all those people running around, too, archangel farts still bouncing around, or no.
So I take it Thundercats is DC property. Learn sumpin’ new every day (I will never need this knowledge)
You know, they *just* had a dinosaur toy come to life in Scooby. Writing wise, wish they'd have just said characters in general coming to life, would've covered the movie/comic spread and all the swag that comes with. Who wrote this? [checks] Oh fuck us, it's Perez.
Fortnite *vomit*
These outfits are fantastic, well-played, wardrobe.
"I don't know who Riley is. But cool." ---> Same, Dean-Who-May-Be-Michael-Faking. Same.
The gif of them ducking down in the car is gonna be precious.
[Post-show pseudo-addendum: Yup]
Why does Sam suddenly not know how to whip his jacket off and put pressure on a wound?
Goddamnit my food got here in time for me to miss the Dean-confronts-thing scene. Thank goodness for giffers and clippers. Though I still haven't gotten my Fluids gif from the Scooby ep. I want that gif.
Stewie is not breathing 27 times per minute. Just hire me. Let me deal with your medical shit. I ain't cheap, but I can be had.
"I like to watch movies where I know the bad guy's gonna lose" ----> gooooood, Perez, you can doooo eeeeeeet (unless that was a script editor’s call, in which case ::sigh::)
See there now, Sam's calling her Samantha. Stewie could’ve just called her "Sam" once, that plus seeing her name come up on his phone is plenty, didn’t need three farging times in less than a minute at the top of the ep. No, I'm not letting this go.
Blood transfusers don't hang out in rando hospital rooms. It just ain't a hang-out, what-if, ya-never-can-tell type of jam.
This ep's pretty much squelched my Michael impersonating Dean option, might have to be in the Michael's hiding in his back molar camp. I say that because this is the most "Dean" he's acted thus far. I mean, I *guess* he could be accessing Dean's memories about the movies, but why lay it on so thick since Sam's not around to witness it? Doesn't matter, I don't know why I'm even going down this road, I don't trust this writer's room in the least to have a carefully crafted plan that they've shared with Jensen. Well, it's beyond trust - Jensen all but said it in that interview (go find it yourselves, I'm sleepy, and this sammich ain't gonna eat itself, but I love you)
I really want Samantha's hair, and now her flannel shirt. I like her and her personality about a million times more than Maggie, why couldn't she be Maggie? OH SHIT. Samantha - I forgot to introduce you to two more members of the name game club, here's Magda and Maggie. [Post-show pseudo-addendum thanks to astute Nashooligan] We would also like to introduce you to Amelia and Amelia and also the Name Game Sorority’s den mother, Millie, who we aren’t quite sure should be included but are hedging our bets. Could be Millicent or Melissa, sure, but why not complete an Amelia trifecta? ---> I’m about to digress with a side note that has nothing to do with this ep, I just want to further cement how much you should trust my judgment: in my big story, this name shit infuriates me so much, it was a factor I considered when constructing Millie’s background. I made Millie come from a slightly posh background on her British mother’s side, and a military family life courtesy of her high-ranking American father. I searched for names that the nickname “Millie” could evolve from that I thought would sound appropriate with this somewhat upper-crust lifestyle, so I made her real name be Emeline (Em-ah-lynn for me, though I’ve heard the last part with a long “i”, too) which is a sweet and classy oldie-goldie jam I wish would come back. It’s Brit-y for her mom, allows for her dad to be the only one who calls her Millie til Henry comes along. Her brothers call her “Em”, which annoys her mom. My psychiatrist’s front office girl has this name (except double-M) but insists on going by “Em”. Not “Emma”, not “Emme”. Em. (As in Auntie Em, I just had a fever dream about little people who give out candy, and grown men dressed in costumes who like skipping down roads with young girls, and trees that throw apples, and flying monkeys, which are cool, but still.) I have found her to be idiotic in several respects over the years, and this decision was not a point in her favor. There, I’m done.
Stewie's respirations are not 115 per minute.
(I'm looking at the bottom feed, btw, in case you're wondering. His heart rate and rhythm is up near the top, BP would be bottom left and would be 2 numbers, and O2 sats max at 100. Also not art line nor ICP. I'll get a better look in gifs but pretty sure it's supposed to be his resps. Or else it is the sats and somebody's gotten their butterfingers on the training module. I mean regardless of their intent, 29 to 115′s a helluva spread for any vital sign unless it’s your heart rate whilst I’m doing CPR because straight up, I do happen to get after it pretty fierce when the occasion has arisen. Anyway, they are ass at this. All they have to do is ask. When Nashville the show was still in production, they asked us shit all the time. I’m revealing too much of my secret identity. Moving on.)
This is great, the cutting between movie and real life, high-five to editing.
Sam and Samantha are legit adorable in that scene.
HAHAHAHA hesitation elbow.
Nice cut to the movie commercial. I don't care for the reusing of all the same clips we just saw, I can't imagine there weren't extra little pieces of discarded scenes for editing to choose from, so... but otherwise, I dig it.
Thankfully, the M.E.’s stainless steel vegetable chopping knife was there in the morgue.🤨
I reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally wish for a moment there, not even five seconds, when ol' boy was standing above him, we saw some Mikey flash across Dean's face with a touch - and I mean a *touch*, CG department, don't blow your whole wad per usual - of blue. That nobody sees, only the audience and the monster, have monster kinda pause, maybe look confused and hit his little button but this time it comes out with the tiniest lilt of a questioning upspeak on the last syllable, and nothing ultimately happens since Sam arrives, Dean shakes his drowsiness off, then proceed to choke hold, etc. It would fall in line with whatever route they're going (Mikey actively impersonating Dean/Mikey residuals left in Dean/Mikey passively hiding out in Dean), also be a nice audience tease.
I didn't think I needed to specify that I wanted mushrooms on this cheesesteak hoagie. On god, the world is completely falling apart.
That whole car convo was.... weird. The party memory story went on too long and was stupid as shit, sure, but the costume discussion is what I mean. And then the one it ended on was especially weird. Why not just end with a shot of the Impala and their conversation continuing with their voices fading away with the engine? End on a better duo than Thelma and Louise who, Perez, killed themselves by driving their car into a canyon. Hell, end on Scooby. I mean, you had the lunchbox which the camera held on for forever to make damn sure we all saw it, may as well double-down.
The doll's eyes should've flicked closed at the end. Missed opportunity.
Okay, cute little ep. Still leaves a bad taste in my mouth that this Perez kid can't have an original idea to save his life, though. Kinda taints it.
Heh. Check it, yo - I brought things full damn circle.
You know.
Shocker. Taint.
HEY THERE YOU GO DEAN - duo Halloween costume!
My work here is done, see y'all next week.

𝐋𝐀𝐘𝐄𝐑 𝟎𝟎𝟏 : 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐎𝐔𝐓𝐒𝐈𝐃𝐄.
* NAME: Canon: José "Zé" Carioca. Human AU: José Carioca is his stage name. His birth name is José Oliveira (after his original VA)) * EYE COLOUR: Brown * HAIR STYLE / COLOUR: Canon: No hair, but his head feathers are fluffy and green. Human AU: Dark brown with dyed green streaks, naturally fluffy, but worn slicked back most of the time. * HEIGHT: 5′6″/167.64 cm * CLOTHING STYLE: Generally prefers to look sharp with a high-collar button-up shirt and black bowtie worn under a light purple button-up vest and a cassimere tan jacket. He accessorizes with a straw panama hat and yellow gloves. In Human AU, the hat has two blue and one red feather in the brim (to mimic his tail in his canon look), and green pants. He does sometimes go casual with t-shirt and jeans or shorts (per his Brazilian comics appearances), and can also be found in a futebol jersey. He wears yellow shoes 99% of the time. * BEST PHYSICAL FEATURE: His bright smile, his graceful hands, his dance moves/natural rhythm
𝐋𝐀𝐘𝐄𝐑 𝟎𝟎𝟐 : 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐈𝐍𝐒𝐈𝐃𝐄.
* FEARS: Very little. The stereotypical carioca attitude is one of being laidback and carefree, and he embodies it. However, he does have a quiet fear of losing his physical senses and being unable to appreciate art and music anymore. * GUILTY PLEASURE: Luxury. Though he makes a tidy sum with his career, he enjoys the finer things in life so much that he quickly blows it and is broke 90% of the time. * BIGGEST PET PEEVE: Disloyalty, being made to work when he’s feeling lazy (which is often). * AMBITIONS FOR THE FUTURE: Having enough money fall into his lap that he doesn’t have to worry about it for a long while.
𝐋𝐀𝐘𝐄𝐑 𝟎𝟎𝟑 : 𝐓𝐇𝐎𝐔𝐆𝐇𝐓𝐒.
* FIRST THOUGHTS WAKING UP: The sun is too bright, his hangover is too strong, can’t he sleep for three more years and make money while doing it? * WHAT THEY THINK ABOUT MOST: Music and art, rhythm and dance, get rich quick schemes. * WHAT THEY THINK ABOUT BEFORE BED: If he hasn’t just been drinking and is too drunk to do anything but fall asleep, he goes over the good things that happened that day and let them send him off to pleasant dreams. * WHAT THEY THINK THEIR BEST QUALITY IS: His charm and his sense of humor.
𝐋𝐀𝐘𝐄𝐑 𝟎𝟎𝟒 : 𝐖𝐇𝐀𝐓’𝐒 𝐁𝐄𝐓𝐓𝐄𝐑?
* SINGLE OR GROUP DATES: Both! Zé loves to party, and sometimes that means the more, the merrier, but sometimes it means quality one-on-one time. * TO BE LOVED OR RESPECTED: Love is definitely preferable. Respect, he’s gone without for most of his life, and it rolls off his shoulders when he doesn’t get it, most of the time. * BEAUTY OR BRAINS: Beauty. Zé’s not seeking a deep, meaningful romantic relationship, and flings tend to go off initial reaction. Also, he’s both an artist and an art appreciator, and art is beauty. * DOGS OR CATS: Both! He’s friendly to all animals (sometimes against his better judgement).
𝐋𝐀𝐘𝐄𝐑 𝟎𝟎𝟓 : 𝐃𝐎 𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐘…
* LIE: Definitely. He grew up on the mean streets of Vila Xurupita and had to con and cheat just to keep afloat. Even now, he’s a showman and has no problem lying when it’s not important. * BELIEVE IN THEMSELVES: Absolutely! * BELIEVE IN LOVE: Love is everywhere. It’s in family, it’s in friends, it’s in couples. He likes to experience all varieties of it, without settling down or focusing. * WANT SOMEONE: On a fleeting, temporary, serial basis.
𝐋𝐀𝐘𝐄𝐑 𝟎𝟎𝟔 : 𝐇𝐀𝐕𝐄 𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐘 𝐄𝐕𝐄𝐑…
* BEEN ON STAGE: Definitely. * CHANGED WHO THEY WERE TO FIT IN: Not in a large, philosophical way. He’s pretended to be other people as both an entertainer and a conman, but he likes who he is just fine, and he’s hardly fussed if you can take him or leave him.
𝐋𝐀𝐘𝐄𝐑 𝟎𝟎𝟕 : 𝐅𝐀𝐕𝐎𝐔𝐑𝐈𝐓𝐄𝐒.
* FAVOURITE COLOUR: Yellow. * FAVOURITE ANIMAL: Parrots and macaws. * FAVOURITE BOOK: How To Get Rich Quick * FAVOURITE GAME: Futebol.
𝐋𝐀𝐘𝐄𝐑 𝟎𝟎𝟖 : 𝐀𝐆𝐄.
* DAY THEIR NEXT BIRTHDAY WILL BE: August 24th! * HOW OLD WILL THEY BE: No set age. He’s got that immortal toon thing going on. I generally play him either in his 30s (canon and young human AU) or his 50s (older human AU).
𝐋𝐀𝐘𝐄𝐑 𝟎𝟎𝟗 : 𝐅𝐈𝐍𝐈𝐒𝐇 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐒𝐄𝐍𝐓𝐄𝐍𝐂𝐄.
* I LOVE: dancing! Feel the rhythm, let it move you! * I FEEL: so sorry for you that you have never been to Bahia. * I MISS: meus amigos, Donald and Panchito. * I WISH: you could see the beauty of my homeland.
