As I've actually experienced some of the Dragon age franchise I can now comment on Lily's weird Dragon Age hottakes.

1. Not to jump straight unto bullying Mikaila here but[t]. . .

2. VARRIC is "blandest"!?

Varric is literally one of the most OP characters to have in your party in 2 because he unlocks SO MANY unique dialog options and, frankly with Bianca he kinda makes all of the other Rogue companions unnessesary. A shame, since he's the first one you get.

He's also one of the better written and acted characters throughout the whole series in general (saying something in a franchise full of standout characters and performances.) A surface Dwarf with a complicated relationship with his brother and culture, something that reads to me as a sort of gray ace vibe, and a respectable degree of crossbow autism.

Considering she's got just one male companion on her "best" list and it's the pretty boy elf from Veilguard who may or may not be played by an Andrew Tate fan, I'm guessing her "best" companions are actually the companions she goons for.

Also-- Dorian, Anders, Josephine, Solas and Isabella are apparently not even worth mentioning to Lily . . .

I'm not far enough through Inquisition at the moment to really compare how the mage/Templar conflict is handled in that game-- but I can tell you one of the big complaints I have about DA2 (despite still really liking it) is how much I feel the mage/templar conflict was fumbled in the third act.

Lily, the fuck are you talking about? Like, honestly I'm kinda shocked this isn't one area we agree in. The templars are just like . . . Objectively in the wrong. They are the direct cause of the systemic issues they are trying to "defend against." Which isn't an inherently bad thing narrative wise-- only, that the game doesn't seem to fully respect the player may have come to that conclusion. The third act strong-arms you into dialog options and missions that assume the player is role-playing as/sees the templars as a much more neutral force, even if they disagree with them. But, no, I was basically trying to rp as a character who was 100% ideologically aligned with Anders-- and during the third act it fucking stopped letting me suddenly tell the templars to go fuck themselves as much as I did in the first and second act.

It was to the point where I assumed I had just messed up certain mandatory missions, only too look it up and be shocked that nope-- you are literally forced to murder mages in crisis and mages you saved in the first and second act in the third.

Are you saying you somewhat agree with the Templars, Lily? You called the fucking inqisition a religious cult, and you may or may not be quietly dickriding for the templars!?

Hey, no worries! Rant away! It's a very strange enigma for sure, and the fandon does indeed act like a cult! My guess for how Viv keeps getting away with all this stuff is that she has a parasocial relationship with her fanbase. The idea of landing a job or getting close with a creator with such a large following overrides any sense of reason or care for her actions, so people keep gassing her up because it could likely lead her to like or comment on their stuff. There's also the pseudo kind act she puts on, so people think she's the sweetest person ever when she has showcased the opposite. There's also a loooot of fandom bullying. Lots of the big dogs in the fandom bully people into silence or make em think they're in the wrong.

There's a WHOLE lot of control going on here, and thanks to her ass kissers logic is thrown out the window. Finally, there were the overblown posts highlighting things that, while weird or gross, aren't "cancelable" enough or downright exaggerations of the truth or lies. These threads on Twitter, especially back in 2019, did more harm than good and led many into believing there was a mob that simply wanted to cancel her for being popular. The threads consisted of her old cringe art (some are very questionable don't get me wrong) rather than the ones where she encouraged fandom bullying and made fun of a 15 year old fan for simply being critical of her work and called them nasty for it. No one did any research on her behavior or how she was an absolute bully to people like Starvader. Callouts need to consist of hard evidence so stuff like this doesn't happen, where your callout does more harm than good.

These factors led to many straight up turning off their brains and blatantly ignoring hard evidence. It's very, very stupid.

The chronically online leftists are the ones who get far too emotionally attached to fucking Bluey or whatever and can’t handle any criticism of their fav, they tend to talk about mostly lore heavy dramedies with the few exceptions usually being things they grew up with and/or baby shows, basically they’re what annoying bigots think all queer cartoon fans act like.

Spoilers for Life Is Strange: Double Exposure

Please read before you filet me. Now… don’t kill the messenger but I am absolutely not surprised Chloe and Max breakup in LIS:DE. And I say this as someone who chose Bae over Bay and love Max and Chloe (individually) with allllll my heart.

For starters, they had a LOT - and I mean A LOT - of unresolved trauma from their past. I’m specifically talking about Max not talking to Chloe for five years after literally leaving town once Williams funeral was over.

It’s not Max’s fault she left but she was wrong for not staying in touch with Chloe. Again, I say this as someone who also sucks at staying in touch (it’s a big big character flaw of mine).

Next, the fact that for Chloe to live means everyone - including her fucking MOM - had to die. Suddenly and horribly. In a storm. That came from nowhere in their point of view.

There’s NO WAY both Chloe and Max don’t hold major guilt from that. Chloe with survivors guilt and Max with just guilt period. And the fact that they would have started their relationship right after that… how can a healthy relationship form with that as the foundation.

Next, Max has a habit of using her powers to kinda manipulate situations to go her way. In the game AND in the comics. And from what we have seen: she doesn’t stop doing that even after the storm. Chloe literally cannot SEE a future with them together because she doesn’t know if Max went back in time or not.

Im not saying Max is a manipulative sociopath - of course not - but, damn, isn’t that just a bit fucked.

It’s not like Chloe is innocent either. She pushes Max to use her powers so much, is selfish and abrasive, and lowkey guilt trippy AS FUCK in LIS.

I love them both down individually but together.. I’m just surprised they lasted more than a few months.

Last but not least, the game kinda centers on Max trying to have Chloe stay alive. It’s actually insane how many times my girl Chloe died and my girl Max had to rewind time to save her. It’s almost like the universe was saying “Hey Chloe gotta go” imho.

Now, if you were in Max’s shoes, you would probably choose your loved one over the town in a heartbeat. However, even with this ending the situation is still fucked and I’m not surprised at all they broke up.

They needed space from each other and their past. How can they do that when they’re trauma bonded?

MY loyalty is to the OG artists of DontNod and their vision of the characters, relationships, and canon; Decknine can go fuck themselves and you along with them cause your shitty ass has no place involved in any discussions about something DONTNOD created, when you very clearly only care about dickriding Decknine. Not about the characters, not about the relationships, not about the core canon, not about respecting player choice, not about respecting both endings, all your sorry bitch ass cares about is riding that Decknine dick.

Listen I love Chloe and Max but it kinda boggles my mind that a large part of the fandom didn’t think at the end of the first game that if you chose “bae over bay” (or to the people that actually paid attention to the dialogue without being completely blinded by the pretty lesbian couple, the option known as killing Chloe’s mom against Chloe’s wish to save her) that their relationship was gonna be “happily ever after” and sunshine and rainbows…especially with how miserable they looked leaving in that truck, they might just be a little out of touch with reality… Not that they couldn’t work it out in the future (which to be fair, could still happen by the end of the new game assuming you continued down the Bae route) but them being broken up really shouldn’t be a surprise, and the way they’ve discussed it with Max being traumatized from her decision makes sense, choosing to kill all your friends and entire town just to save one person at 18 years old, isn’t something you just get over…

Beyond that, the people that are acting shocked that Chloe isn’t playing a bigger role in the game are out of touch too. From the jump, the game has been promoted as “the return of Max Caulfield”. Not the return of Max and Chloe. And while we only really have the first two chapters to go by so far, I feel like she’s as prominent as I expected her to be in this one. If not more.

Idk, I get being disappointed that at the moment, they are broken up, but like how else were they gonna keep her away from the game that continues Max’s story in a way that honors both endings from the original without them having to add a whole other character in the mix just for one timeline.

I can only predict the ending of this game so far, but it feels like the game plan for Max’s journey is to have her get to a place where she can let go of the past and move on and be happy, and we know that Max’s inability to let go of what happened in the past up until this point is the reason they broke up in the first place so to me, at least in the bae route of Double Exposure, it feels like the game plan is to eventually get Chloe and Max back together by the end of it (at least for those not exploring other romance options).

I don’t know…all I’m saying is don’t get all angry and dismiss the entire game before we see how it all plays out.

I'm all for fans critizising the creators, and talking about author intent and things that could have been done differently, but this fandom doesn't do anything but. There's so much negativity, all the time, levelled with such vitriol.

It becomes this circlejerk of "Ooh! I thought of a new reason why Meyer is a bad writer!" and people jumping on it with zero critical thought, regardless of legitimacy or nuance. I've seen her criticized for things that weren't even in the books, that people made up. My favorite thing is when someone comes up with something they, personally, would have preferred to be in the books, and say "The fact that this wasn't in the books makes Meyer a bad writer", just... really?

If you were mentioned by Breitbart as someone who makes “unapologetically full Nazi” videos and cheered on for it, it doesn’t really matter if you endorse them if you go out of your way never to decry them. He’s never done anything to distance himself from the alt right. They’re his fanbase.

Don’t put your dick in my mouth. I never mentioned videos in my initial example. I said that if I, as a gay mixed man, were to be endorsed by Breitbart, it doesn’t mean I’m complicit in their behavior. It does not mean I also endorse them. It does not warrant ignorant people like you calling me a ‘white supremacist’ or ‘nazi’.

Defending a friend who is alt-right leaning and who says racist, xenophobic and hateful things is, in fact, horrid. It’s telling your friend they don’t need to improve or be a better person and it’s telling your fanbases that these things aren’t a big deal.
