Ok so im thinking way too much about the layout of these fucking menus (that will probably never exist. rip i guess.) so im just gonna list things out under the cut (its messy whoops) so please bear with me lol 😔😔

* RECORD puts the game into a 2.5D first person state where you can (obviously) record anything (which saves to a separate folder). Most cutscenes can’t be recorded, but some will let you. Some you have no choice but to record.

* TALK is also obvious lmao (TALKing can initiate certain cutscenes, and if(ex: when Tim and Jay team up) you want to talk to party members(or if they have something to say) you have to select TALK before doing so).

* INSPECT is, again, obvious, but doing it too much will negatively affect the (i dont have a better name for it rn lmao) Operator meter. Doing it too little and watch out. you’ll miss something and they’ll get you.

* INVENTORY. Do i even need to say anything lol The menu style will change according to who you’re playing as and what they’re currently using(ex: jay’s camera bag in #69) to store items. This also means the on-hand inventory quantity will change. Storage inventory(most of the time the cars) is for storing excess items.

* Health is health lol the other meter is the Operator meter. That fills up/ depletes and changes colors depending on exposure to The Events™️. The more filled the bar is, the more exposed the player is, the more black the meter is, is how affected the character is( ex: so in the final scene of #72, jay’s meter would be completely filled in, with only a hint or green while tim’s meter would be completely filled and about half red, maybe a little more red of anything. Now that im thinking abt it that entry would probably knock jay out of playable character for a little while too) the more affected the character, the less control the player has

* T key to swap to Tim, J key to swap to Jay, status bars and icons grow/shrink and move over to make room(im shit at explaining things but you can see what i mean in the two screens i made lol)

* When jay is on his own, his stats/icons are pretty much where they are in the first screen i made, theres just a tim shaped hole in the menu until he teams up with tim for real(jessica im sorry i know you technically team up with jay first but,, , its not for very long,,,)

* There would be tta minigames/segments (plus whatever the fuck brian/hoody is doing. we stay silly) during which those stats/icon are set up the same as jay’s(alone), stats would def be different from normal play but idk what they’d be lol havent thought about that too much yet tbh (maybe even a little alex minigame. As a treat :3)

* during the divorce separation, tim and jay’s icons/stats are still on screen, but swapping between the two is locked. you will be who you need to be when you need to be them.

* After jay dies, all his icons black out, but they linger around. Hes not exactly haunting the narrative per se, but hes always been like, something adjacent to that to me

* Any glitches and tearing that happen in game can be separate from glitching that happens in the menu and vice versa

* Font i used for talking is the yt captions font. Id probably use it for smaller text/some bg text/item desc., but the action menu is all drawn(idk what this style is but its oddly fitting in a weird kind of way)

Hello! I still have more to say on the latest chapter of Historically Inaccurate. Sukuna trying to teach the reverse curse technique was great but I wonder how he feels about the whole stuck in Yuuji's body in the future situation the comment he made about not teaching his cursed technique because Yuuji might use it against him was a bit of an emotional blow. He's aware that they're enemies. I wonder what that's like. (Side note I'm a trained chef and dear God I would kill for Sukuna's cursed technique Ok do you know how much time it would save me if I could just wave my hand and instantly cut up all my ingredients. I used to joke that half my day was just spent cutting onions and carrots but it was only barely a joke ok, and that's just the veg I also had to cut up meat and herbs and the like. I could make ten times the number of recipes if I didn't have to spend time cutting.) Ahh, but the ever growing concern as Yuuji tried but just couldn't get it hurt so bad. Sukuna's back story was so painful. No wonder he hates seeing Yuuji slowly wasting away. Again, I have to wonder how future Sukuna is handling this. That man is going to be completely insane by the time they get back to the future, and I can't even blame him tbh. I went back to reread some of the interactions between future Sukuna and Yuuji and oh god I feel so bad for him oddly enough even though it hurts those are some of my favorite scenes in the whole fic getting to see him slowly growing more attached to Yuuji is great. I liked all the little moments where you can tell he's trying like when Yuuji gets back from lunch with Megumi and Sukuna asks Him what he's going to do to make him understand his mental state, he's trying to reach out he's just bad at it. Or when Yuuji has His panic attack after his talk with Maki and Sukuna drags him into the domain, I think that he was trying to draw Yuuji into a conversation with that little insult. Ahhh he's trying to reach out but Yuuji is too hurt and burnt out to reach back so his attempts fall flat or worse cause Yuuji to lash out hurting both of them in the process. Anyway back to the current chapter it seems like Yuuji has had a breakthrough with realizing that the Sukunas are the same person just one has so much more trauma, yayy. I mean he seems uncomfortable with it but at least he sees it now that's progress. Sukuna telling Yuuji he should take his future Self to see the fireworks was nice love the idea of Sukuna wingmanning for Sukuna. Honestly I think it'd be reasonable for Sukuna to fight Sukuna but he's got to put some of that self loathing aside because the only way for this story to end happily as far as I can see is for Yuuji and future Sukuna to make it work. That might be a little hard if past Sukuna spends his whole time in the future punching himself I certainly hope he gets a few (verbal) blows in but after that I hope he goes back to wingmanning. (1)

As someone who worked part-time as a prep chef for a number of years...being able to slice quickly would have been beautiful and saved me hours of chopping an ungodly amount of produce for lunch prep 83 (especially onions. Hate onions. My eyes BURN)

And yeah, I make a lot of different Sukuna backstories as I can image it going all sorts of different ways and I doubt we are going to get concrete answers lol This one seemed fitting for this fic!

Sukuna in the past sees present Sukuna as ...just himself. Like going "Oh god, that's me!" and realizing this is the trauma that awaits and desperately wanting to do damage control ; w ; why he makes the comment about "spoiling the story" because he sees where it is going...

OOO PLAYBOY IS ANOTHER I KNOW and love a lot. i mentioned once that i love the exo version but i always wished there was an official recording by jjong since both have different energies. i could go into it but i think jjong's live version he did once felt more... smooth? while the exo version feels a lot more playful and teasing. both are so good in different ways. it works so well with their voices imo but god i can only think of jonghyun when i hear it. it feels like such a Him song to write. i'll stop talking abt him but know that i do love the way EXO did the song.

ok so, here's thing about lore's writing. the way they write just tickles me, punches me, hugs me, chokes me--everything under the sun, it just fundamentally messes with me. i still need to think about this critically bc even i dont exactly know why it does, but all i know is that my cells are eating this up like its the only thing edible left on earth.

one thing i do know is that the way they space dialogue, paragraphs, etc., is smth i appreciate A LOT. i didnt realize this until i wrote for myself (im an ex-writer!!) and even while i read other fics, i found myself almost viscerally reacting to poorly spaced fics. that's a talk for another day, but i just have to say that lore has mastered AMBIENCE. atmosphere. mood. there is this flow, like the waves against the shore, that just makes SENSE. i still need to pick at this more to be able to properly verbalize it, but it for sure adds to why their writing seems so artful to me. like those paintings you'd want to hang up in your reading room.

OK SLIGHTLY RELATED, but the use of parentheses (im starting to think theres smth wrong with me bc why am i fixating on such small things) is so. natural. i think this is what i meant when i referred to "stream of consciousness-esque" things, where details are included in ways that make the entire thing scenic. it feels like a movie, reading this (all of lore's works are like this tbf). it feels like im witnessing smth, but it's almost tangible, the way it unassumingly appears. but the things said there add so much, it adjusts the hue of the writing, or maybe it increases contrast or its the color that's been balanced with those details (using illustration/art terms now LOL).

honestly reading this makes me want to read properly again. i used to breathe books, but as i got jaded and stuff happened in my life, i stopped reading. and im realizing now as i write out these thoughts, that being a reader makes me so so so happy. this is also why i probably couldnt contain the urge to make a tumblr just to harass lore, bc they reminded me that i love being a reader. it felt like biting into a dessert i forgot existed, a favorite that was left in my past.

this became oddly sentimental/emotional, but tbh writing this out is oddly therapeutic to me. i have a lot of appreciation for writers, and i think it bubbled to a point where i couldnt contain it well (like literally, wth is this post). but i think it's more than deserved, that's why comments go a long way for creative people. being in a world ruled by algorithms and numbers and engagement makes it so hard to create the things you want to, and it makes it a lot harder for works to meet the right people.

im happy i found lore, and that theyve continued to write despite the stuff happening to creative content these days. lore, if youre reading this, i hope that this mess of a ramble does even a fraction of what your writing has done for me! the small moments of excitement or happiness i get from your work, its moments like that, that allow me to breathe a little.

on a lighter note, why is it so fitting that jy calls you "dearest." SOB that man, no wonder he was my first bbygirl. i find it so fascinating lore decided to use "dearest" as opposed to "honey," which seemingly has the same meaning/undertone, but NO. jing yuan hums thoughtfully. you hope he won't press this. he's-- he's an unusually calm character when he wants to be. you're his lover-- dutifully, horribly reliable and loyal. he has no reason to doubt you.

jing yuan opens his mouth to say more, but promptly redirects as yanqing arrives, swords floating around his back. he and the general talk, carouse for a moment. yanqing has had yet another day of sparring. that's good. that's nice.

the terrace is wide, and high above the rest of the luofu's structure. it's lush with plants. vining fruits, plump and ready to be picked curl along its railing. flowers bloom wide and bright.

"you're distracted today." jing yuan says, guiding you to a bench. his hand lays warm and firm on your shoulder. "are you sure the divination commission is giving you trouble?"

(no, the mutual past lover you both share is layers below you in the shackling prison. radiating an energy that feels astral and unholy. the kindness purged from him. yingxing really is dead, isn't he?)

"no, i promise." you give him a half-truth and a smile that you hope isn't as withered as you fear it is.

jing yuan looks pleasantly neutral. perhaps, if you were some foreign diplomatic or tourist you'd be charmed by such expression. the arbiter general of the luofu is known to be ruthless in battle with a lovely personal disposition. perhaps you'd see this moment as a reflection of that rumor.

you know, however, that in this moment jing yuan is frustrated. he will not treat you with the same firmness that he does his retainer or his subordinates, but you know the feeling is, perhaps, the same.

jing yuan doesn't like when you withhold information. he has always vocally appreciated your candor, with a sweet honesty that's disarming as it comes from a man who speaks in half-truths so frequently.

and now, you lie to him. your jaw is locked and your eyes still feel scratchy and swollen from your tears.

jing yuan begins to speak and you cut him off. grab his hand with a squeeze and pull yourself into his side.

"do you remember when you broke the first blade that yingxing made for you?" you ask.

jing yuan goes still for a moment. just a second of hesitation but you catch it. the feeling melts away as he laughs, tinged with melancholy. "i do. he was furious with me. and you had to collect new ore off-ship for a month for him to craft a replacement."

"i did." you whine with a laugh. "it was miserable. 'roid mining is awful. i was cleaning astradust from under my fingernails for weeks when i got back."

"but, you came back with the ore regardless."

"yes, and i never did again. no matter how much yingxing tried to bribe me."

"you were too busy entertaining the young lady fu to be his errand boy. i remember well."

"i probably could've made the time." you tell him. he knows this already. "i just didn't want to be away. i would've missed you both too much."

"is that why you so graciously eat with me each day?"

"i do that because i love you." you squeeze his hand. "and i enjoy your company. and want to be near you."

(you want to hold him until the last moment, however that takes shape.)

jing yuan hums. he fits you so your cheek presses against his collarbone, and his chin rests on the top of your hand. his arms wrap around your middle, squeezing and rubbing his thumbs over you. he holds you tightly to him.

"the feeling is mutual." jing yuan tells you, soft in a hushed voice only you get to hear.

you bear your weight into him. he catches you easily. holds you until yanqing calls for you both to stop being so 'gross' and to 'rate his form' on a new maneuveur he's been practicing.

jing yuan leads you once more, never fully pulling away from you. a hand on your waist, a palm over the small of your back. he puts you in his lap the moment yanqing excuses himself to flit about.

"you need to get back to the divination commission soon, don't you?" jing yuan asks, probing.

"i took the day off."

"you did, now?" jing yuan has already seen through you. this you know.

"yes." you tell him.

(you want to tell him more. you want to scream and beat the ground. perhaps you willl, later, in the privacy of your shared home.)

for now, you satiate the ache with the truth.

"i saw blade earlier. that's why i was late."

jing yuan squeezes you. it almost hurts as he curls over you.

"and?" jing yuan asks. there's a weakness in his voice that you seldom hear. "are you satisfied?"

"hardly." you tell him, turning his arms to wrap your legs around his waist. to drag him closer until your chest to chest and can hear the steady heartbeat thumping under his sternum. "i don't think i ever will be. i miss him too much. he's just gone."

"i know."

"it's awful, isn't it?"

"it simply is." jing yuan says. this is his way-- the way he has kept himself from being eaten alive by mara. you cannot be cannibalized by the thriving rot if you simply choose to let go of the awful, terrible things that would cleave another person in two. he look at the objective rationality of each situation-- this is why he is the longest-lived general. this is why he is a brilliant strategist, and a soft, grounding lover.

because, he reminds you that yingxing is dead, and any fondness you carry for the man known as blade is misplaced.

"do you not miss him?"

"of course." jing yuan kisses your temple. holds you tightly lest you plunge into the ground or float into the sky. "that does not change things though, does it?"

hope is a twisted thing, you think. in this instance, it's better to kill it. whatever mission yingxing-- no, blade has set out to complete should not concern you. there are greater crises. worse ills.

kinder realities that lay in front of you. at your feet. in your arms.

you nose into jing yuan's jaw. each shuddering breath he gives you, you savor. there's no use clinging, is there? but that doesn't mean you won't enjoy each moment you have with him. you'll be at his side until the divinations carve that that will no longer be possible. you will reminisce, however painful-- but aeons, you must refuse to let your past burden you.

so, you hold jing yuan like a lover does. cup his cheeks and kiss him until he's groaning against your lips, grinding you in his lap. he nips at your lips with a laugh as he pulls you flush to him. closer, closer, closer--

you will hold this in your cupped palms, as long as fate allows. perhaps, you both have earned that much.

same anon as before!!! mostly just wondering - how did u know u wanted the anniversary/miami to be the backdrop, what was your favorite scene to write, what was the hardest!!! i’m curious about your most cherished parts of it bc genuinely i think the first scene was when i knew i would be changed. went back to read it today… it was so beautiful. the way u had max not so subtly touching charles to ground him was just ugh. i also thought it was so fitting for who max is. and balanced charles’ anxiety so well against. how new the relationship is, how much charles loves him and can’t tell him, the weight of their history. and for him to be navigating all of that during a race weekend too!! i think it was just beautiful. and i think ending it in the pool, just them, reflecting on those babies in karting. so perfect. oddly i haven’t read ENOUGH fic of them doing that for how much they bring it up when asked about it irl. i could just go on and on. i think for this being your first fic in f1, you have captured the essence of both of them and gently, beautifully teased out a dynamic for the ages. i’m glad you’re here and i hope you write more <3 sorry i yapped

why did i choose miami !! so i've actually been writing little ficlets about virtually every race this year. none except this one are finished and some probably won't ever be revisited, but i think we've got miami, sazuka, spain, hungary & austria. basically if i see a plot then i start to noodle on it. <3 i started with charles being sad after practice, i wasn't 100% certain i wanted to work the anniversary in there actually, but then i had the idea for max to say you can't be mean to be on our anniversary and it spiraled.

what was my favorite scene to write? hmmm this is a good question. i really love the pool scene at the end. i stole the bit where charles is seeing max all throughout his life from an earlier part where it didn't fit, and i waited until i was well and truly done with the rest to build that scene around it. i got the dialogue for charles's confession on the first try and i just really like the "i wish you were my best friend then" line. <3 re: my most cherished parts, that's certainly one of them. i also really like some little stupid things. max biting the lime charles just spit out is so dear to me. max saying "you are so stupid" when charles apologizes. charles saying "when i find out how to get you to leave me alone i'll let you know" was one of the first lines i wrote and i love that too. just the stuff where they're the most them.

the hardest scene to write.. tbh this fic was hard to write period, except like i said i think the last scene came easily. it was my first lestappen fic that i wrote through to the end and i really wanted to nail them. almost every scene had like one hundred iterations. it actually began with charles wanting to tell max he wanted to marry him. but then it felt like way too much rumination and i got to thinking -- maybe they haven't quite been together that long, and charles is struggling with something a lot more simple. so that led to a lot of rewrites once i changed my mind!

i think the one that i got stuck on the most was charles waking up in the middle of the night. i couldn't figure out how to make that transition where he asks max about his dad, and i still don't think it's ironed out perfectly. i also rewrote the club scene a ton of times even though it's short.

thank you SOOOO much for all the kind words :( max was a really nice contrast to charles here, he's so steady and just going about his race weekend while side eyeing his weird boyfriend. they're so opposite -- them knowing each other their whole lives is so simple and, like, just a given to max, while charles reads so much into it. i'm so glad his vibe came off the page well, he rocked to write <3

Beyond Birthday is mentioned to crack his neck in LABB, which is oddly enough also a habit of Ryuk's. Shinigami urges, especially those of the rather unhinged kind

Suruga heard that L never even showed his face to Misora, meaning she kept quiet about their encounter to everyone until her very death. Which is pretty nice.

Tbh Beyond wasn't too far off about mocking L's behavior. He does tend to crawl when he's being frantic & is also a messy eater (from getting food on himself when not provided with utensils (even when he is...), to consuming excessive amounts of sweet toppings)

There's too many "god"s in DN names... ('Kagami' can be translated to 'nurse god' which is so stupid & uncreative /affectionately)

"L's back grew rounder as he sat on the sofa with his knees tucked tightly against his chest. [...] He seemed to be burdened by the weight of something very heavy that she could not see". L's slouch gets lower after Watari dies under his surveillance. Nothing new, just fantastic symbolism that I love about him.

Also how actually well L suppresses his emotions while working on cases is really outlined in this book. It gets to a point where he seems apathetic, as people who've seemingly gone through trauma reunite over tears in front of him, while minutes beforehand, he's exuded real sadness over Watari's passing. (this is not inherently negative or positive)

His reputation with the FBI really sticks to him like a tick, yet it's suppressing his humanity that gets L to do what's needed & initiate measures necessary (which earned him the ill-willed reputation of kinky bizarre murder-loving detective. Whereby I still can't quite locate the origin of the "murder-loving" part..)

"Nobody would think anything important to be in a bag of potato chips, don't you think?" Honey, first of all, how did you fit an entire notebook into a bag of potato chips without it looking like it's your 1 pound hershey's chocolate stash... Oh, and L has a pattern of emulating tricks that people have used to try and fool him

It seems that L wasn't lying when he said that he's a fan of Misa's work, though idrk what to make of that... Not everything in the half-canon is canon, kids. M went a bit too hard on that 'L is weird & creepy' at times. Until it's not even goofy and ridiculous anymore, I'm just.. concerned?

L seems fulfilled and glad when he's stressed about saving the world. Nothing like a superiority complex, just very INTJ.

L will know to evaluate people so much as to accept food from the ones trying to deceive him, if he knows they're pacifists. Having them vacuum his room & stuff, letting them think they're earning his trust. A side of him we haven't seen thus far, just thought it to be important to share.

Watari, now officially L's mentor and father figure (we knew this but i love it)

The fact that L prones to share sweets with anyone compatible to himself or whoever he wants to tempt is not just a quirky gesture of respect, but actually seems to write out, more than anything, 'let's put us on the same level here. Have this thing that indicates gross luxury within societal hierarchy while also being the thing that keeps me going on an everyday-basis'

Fem-disguise flirty L. He's enjoying the vibe & living vicariously. That's it that's the jot

And then there's page 151. And i wonder, am I needed here at all?

The "L-organization" Blue Ship made up is comically the truest hypothesis that has existed as a theory about L. After all, Wammy's House is the founding ground of 26 Ls each generation to come

Watari seems to be involved with the Wammy's kids more than initially thought. But this could also be Kujo's illusion, as having any contact with the one closest to L at all would be a big deal and in her mind more prominently

And finally, the relationship that was created between L & Light is closer to love and worship than friendship. Even best friends. L's reliance on the thought of Light even exists as comfort in heavily emotionally distressing situations. Your definitely romantically touched soulmate-other-half-comfort-human can be your best friend too is what I'm trying to say. Like, you don't have to choose. Just add it to the list.

Verdict: I assume the main point of the book is literally to clear up misunderstandings about L, hence information about him is being blatantly pointed out and aggressively reinforced around every corner. But I'm here anyways because page 151 exists for me and me only (and everybody else who's done their thing correctly before having read this thing) as a pat on the back and a hearty 'good job'. It was fun to have found a couple more hidden details along the way too though. L called Light his 'best friend' like he called Misora 'some guy in the US who told me about capoeira'

alright DONE so ive already said most of the stuff i want to say but here are some final thoughts:

so i'm attempting to look at this both on its own merit and in its context as The Disney Movie Movie.

first of all, it's okay. it's not good by any means. it's tropey and floundering and hard to keep track of.

the characters feel underbaked. asha is fine, but overplayed and not super unique or memorable. magnifico is just a really boring and then very suddenly very cliche villain. all the hype around him is bad imo, he is not a better character than asha.

the animation isn't stunning, but it doesn't deserve the hate it's getting. it looks strange and wrong and it's super disappointing considering the absolute masterpieces of animation we've seen in the past several years (encanto, luca, raya, onward, say what you will about modern disney but their animation is absolutely beautiful). the backgrounds are pretty good. the character designs are relatively boring.

now, granted, maybe i shouldnt be defending the animation, since i watched this whole movie in a 3 by 4 inch window in the corner of my laptop screen while doing the world's most distracted research so. i'm sure it's different up close.

from everything i heard, i was expecting wayyy more obvious disney references all over the place, and while i definitely noticed some, it wasn't actually too bad.

the Sidekick Teens. there are like.. 7 of them?? i do not remember their names or really what they look like or much about them. extremely forgettable, too many of them, designs are boring, and there wasn't a good reason to include them tbh. they didn't even play a major role in the Final Battle!!

songs were not very catchy and like i said the lyrics were kind of uniquely awful. i've talked about this already. really bad music with no consistency or wow factor. they didn't fit together, they didn't seem fitted to any characters in particular, they didn't stick in my mind a bit. honestly it just felt like a chore to get through the song so we could move on. lyrics fucking blow, honestly i think the more poetic bits of this post are better written and im not even lying to you

the plot is kind of awful. ive said a lot already. trying to go for the Inspiring Truth-Teller Rebellious Girl Leads Her People To Freedom and yeah that did happen i guess but it was so muddy and so unclear in its own message. i completely understand the "written by ai" allegations because genuinely, it does feel disjointed and misguided in its intended principles, story, themes, and morals, about as much as it would if an ai really had written it. very disappointing, since i do think the premise could have worked if this movie didn't try so hard to be about wishing upon a star.

in a similar vein, the three different themes here - Following Your Dreams, Magic Inside Us All, and Wishes Are What Keep Hope Alive - are all fighting for the main storyline. the way the film resolves this is by pretending that those three things are actually the same thing. which they are obviously not upon any close examination. it also seems to be attempting to resolve societal issues through individual achievement, which sucks but also not unexpected. however - they do sort of stop doing that by the end, and societal change is brought about by a community effort to strive against the oppressor and rise up in hope/dreams/star-ness (stardom?). so that's cool. props to them.

i like to talk about voice acting when i do these as well. vas were overall relatively decent! asha's was quite good, her lines and expressions just pushed it over-the-top a bit. magnifico was fine. i mentioned i think dahlia's voice doesn't suit her. otherwise i didn't have any issues with the voice acting, good job actors! except for in the songs. asha in particular has that "cursive singing" voice that she's trying to keep down, and does a pretty good job of avoiding, but sometimes the pronunciation is unclear or oddly embellished. and as i said magnifico sounds like autotuned lin manuel miranda ai mixed with, like, hugh jackman or smth. did not enjoy their performances which just made the songs worse because THEY WERE THE ONLY ONES WHO SANG SONGS!!!! (for the most part)

so yeah. overall, wish (2023) is a forgettable, nothing-new movie with particularly bad musical numbers and unfortunately complicated writing.

ugh this took me AGES i got distracted throughout the movie and then i'd pause it for 5-10 minutes at a time to complain lmao. here i am we're finally done. it's over.

i rate wish (2023) a 1.5 out of 8 blatant disney references. not good. will not be watching again willingly. not very enjoyable, and that's disappointing because i often really enjoy not-good movies!!

At first I thought it was a cool orchestral mix of Cynthia's theme, but just an orchestral mix of Cynthia's theme. They're so set on hard paralleling the future descendants this important character doesn't even get their own theme/motifs? But the more I listen to it the more I love it and notice details that do set it apart from Cynthia's to give it its own character.

Cynthia's theme is ominous pretty much all the way through, constantly putting pressure on you. And the fast paced electronic style fits with how the pressure is competitive- a heated battle between rival trainers. But the way they do ominous in Volo's theme... the grace, the elegance. Starting with just piano and some sparkly triangle taunting you in the bg is a whole new level of horror lol.

Don't, do NOT, get me started on the part where the flutes and strings call/answer and weave in and out of each other like a chase or a dance. It's oddly playful yet fits right in and that softness in the midst of everything kills me man. It's so unmistakably Volo. Y'know how he goes "You outsider!" And glares at the camera but then at the end he smiles? That's this! Right here!! Know what I mean?? The way he goes "Boo!" and teaches you back strike just to mess with you, see if you get the hint and if you don't now you will later~ ;) And he's gone full world ending maniac but who are we kidding- Volo is still Volo through and through. And this is a funny little dance between a hero and villain who have crossed each others paths over and over til they fully intertwine and fall into place side by side right here in this final battle. And it leads right into the uplifting floaty section that feels like you're drifting in the heavens above everything don't get me started!! What galaxy brained composer wrote this and do they know that they're killing me. arceus "listening for the flute's song" yet doesn't respond to this, where's your taste

When it goes back to ominous vibes and *piano intensifies* with those low keys hammering in the bg ohhh god. destroy me! yes king your plate is so spooky your piano is so threatening! Cynthia who??

I just think it’s funny because just when Vanessa posted that caption with "River-Verse" alluring that they are for sure going with multiverse stuff and a lot of things point to this Riverdale not being the real one either BAs are starting to panic and commenting "it’s not an AU!" On every post making this theory but they should’ve seen this outcome since 606 when superpowers, the devil and Tabitha legit being Doctor Strange 2.0 came into the plot on "Riverdale". The way every character is acting, the similarities with Vale, the random things that happened in 605 that got not explanation. It’s "River-Verse" because it’s not Dale or Vale, but another one in between. It’s a repeat on the special. It’s like when they were so sure everything on Vale was going to be real only for them to be proven wrong. All that confidence now but I know they’ll be crying by the finale for a story line we saw coming miles away.

let us all take a moment for the b/as who told us that rivervale was just the name of the town now.

might be the same people who have told me that riverdale has switched genres before so this makes total sense (i have questions about their definition of genre now tbh). or that it would parallel the vale but would obviously have the baby and wedding for real (and you guessed it, i don't think they know what parallel means either).

the thing is, i don't really know what the people who think the vale isn't or won't affect the dale people are thinking. they're having deja-vu, tabitha just heard the call to betty over the radio. it's clearly leaking through. that means that it's not fixed. something went wrong when they tried to fix it.

oh lord, i'm about to give this more thought than the writers ever will but listen, they were oddly specific about calling it a pocket universe, right?

here's what i know about pocket universes. they're not parallel universes. ha.

nah, okay i'm sorry. i vote we use what i learned from dr who about them and call it what he did: a distorted echo of our own (universe). and that they never lasted long? which makes sense for the event but they had jughead try to save them all. and i believe they looped too.

i think they have an entry and exit point? which makes sense since i feel like that would be the point where they're overlapping? maybe? going off memory here so good luck to me.

like, obvs, they're going for something here and adding in the comics, the clear time travel, the bomb (the mystery of it and how pocket universes are supposed to have their own big bang (am pretty sure on that but not 100%) along with vale archie talking about the bomb being the creation of rivervale, i feel like those pieces can all be picked up and looked at even if not everything fits perfectly.

especially when you consider how popular it is to have different laws of nature in other universes (superpowers/supernatural stuff).

no idea what my point is anymore tbh. just that you can be confident in your ship and still see how the vale is messing with it. i mean, i don't remember the last time i watched or read anything that messed with time and universes that didn't try and fix the point where it all went wrong but if you don't think anything went wrong, why care what others are talking about?

4. (If you could rewrite one episode which one would it be and why?)

Season 4, episode 5, Buck Begins. I don't like the way they handled that episode at all. I see what they were going for, but the way they went about achieving it was so incredibly surface level, it was frustrating.

First things first, this episode as it is should be called Buck & Maddie Begin. The focus is distributed between the two of them--and don't get me wrong, I actually ADORED the relationship background and development we got, tbh those were some of my favorite moments from the episode. It just means that it REALLY doesn't fit in well with previous Begins episodes, where the focus is intensely on a single character.

The overall tone of the episode was really clunky and almost awkward. It felt like fanfiction that had been written by a hardcore Buck fan--and I want to clarify, there's nothing wrong with being a hardcore Buck fan, but you know when you're reading fics on AO3 and you can tell who the writer's fav is? That vibe. A lot of LOVE moments that aren't earned on the page, because they've already been earned in the writer's heart? And it made the tone of the episode feel a bit... off.

They had so many different ways and opportunities to show where Buck shines as a character, and they went with such a surface level thing--Buck The Daredevil. Why the focus on that of all things?

Another of my fav moments is the story of how he chose to be a firefighter, they chose not to overcomplicate that and that feels right, so I'd leave that part alone. I guess my main issue with it is the whole sequence with the five alarm fire.

The dialogue at the end with the firefam was heartwarming, but felt oddly unearned? I dunno, one half of me was like "awwwwwwww, this is so sweet" while the other half of me was knocking on the door of my common sense, saying "but was any of this dialogue earned? If this was any other episode, literally any, they wouldn't be filled with kind words, they'd be like WHAT THE FUCK WERE YOU THINKING and rightfully so. Buck was beyond reckless and in the process, yeah he may have saved the worker's life... after almost getting him killed. Like even in later episodes, Buck chooses to be reckless and they're all eye rolls, Buck's gonna Buck and Bobby is all what the fresh hell, son?!?!... That's exactly what they should have been doing here, and there's no real rhyme or reason why they aren't except that this is the Buck Feel Good Episode. *shrugs* Because it wasn't earned by the episode's narrative it rings really empty in rewatches, which makes me sad.

Though straight up I could watch that moment where all the firefighters help him with the rope over and over and over, that moment was right. It’s the dialogue afterward that felt really OOC for everyone.

Okay, my real favorite quote... GAH it's so hard, there's a lot of goodies. I'd have to say though it's at the end of the tsunami arc: "Sometimes a few choice words can be the life raft that gets you home. To be seen. To be found. Isn't that what we're all searching for?" It's something that strikes a chord for me personally, and was so beautifully put into words. It makes me feel so much love for the people like this in my life all over again when I hear this quote (and I hear it quite often, the tsunami arc is one of my favorites to rewatch!)

23. (Something you would like to see in the future episodes?) Prepare yourselves for a tacky answer here, sorry. But shamelessly, the thing I want to see is buddie coming together (I know, *sigh* so basic) but that really is my wish. But I want it to happen in a very specific way. I want it to be a progression, and more than ANYTHING I WANT IT TO BE EARNED! Tarlos was not earned, it's one of my BIGGEST griefs with LS, they just kinda jumped into bed together and then just kinda jumped into committed relationship mode with very little justification or progression. The current pace they have now with buddie is phenomenal, that progression that builds and builds and BUILDS until you can barely breathe even thinking about it, and then BOOM.

Speaking of boom, it’s equally as important that after a good build-up, they stick the landing. It’s all just gotta work. Like, have you read fanfictions before where the build was GORGEOUS and then the crescendo was just meh?

Homecookings [Nov ed]

Hi all!

This month, I finished reading Kim Un-su’s “The Cabinet”. It definitely took me a while to get into. By “a while”, I mean like maybe the first 2 chapters. The novel is continuous but every chapter, it talks about 1 “case”, until you read the final 3rd of the novel. While I don’t think you can (/should) open up to a chapter & just start reading, it does have short story vibes. So it was interesting! I don’t really know what genre it fits in either. There’s a bit of everything... like thriller, sci-fi, realist... you should just read it!

Okay, homecooking food this month~

I tried out this brand of dumpling.

The wrapper was thin & cooks fast! The filling for this particular flavour was kind of disappointing. Perhaps bcos the main ingredient is glass noodles, there really much content inside. There was a lot of empty space in the dumpling. The flavour was good though- I’d give it 4/10 for spicy level, which means it was quite mild.

Homemade pho (via Instant Pot)

Made some flaxseed pancakes that I’ve incorporated parmesan cheese into.

Cheonggukjang (with pork belly meat), braised eggplant & rice.

Cold noodles with the radish broth (that was at room temp lol!) with tons of Korean seaweed flakes added. This was awesome!

Pork belly with my raclette grill that I got for my mom as Mothers’ Day gift hahaha!! Tried grilling cheese directly on the grill like above & wowwwww *drools* I love the crusty cheese texture so much!

After we finished the pork belly, we poured off the oil but as you can see, there was still quite a bit left on the grill, so then we grilled “sticky rice patties” on it. Turned out surprisingly delicious! I thought the rice would fall apart but maybe bcos it was sticky rice, it didn’t become disintegrated. The exterior was crisp & some pieces had nice grill marks.

Fettuccine with herb cream & corn!!!

My one-pot meal that contains a lot of good stuff like nurungji, flattened rice cake, dumplings & napa cabbage. Essentially it’s like a ddeok mandu guk but I added nurungji & perilla seed powder :D

Here comes the ‘everything’ noodle soups lol basically all the random soup noodles I’ve made this month. As you know, noodle soup is my staple :P I can do a month without rice but I can’t go a week without noodles. ..

My “leftovers” rice noodles haha so all that peas & broccoli stuff was from a stir-fry the night before. I dumped that in the water with fish cake & napa cabbage.

As you probably are aware, a “5th wave” of C*vid is not an impossibility with a new powerhouse mutant coming out. Despite ppl & things have &/or are resuming normalcy with vaccine passports to visit restaurants & facilities, I’m content with this home-body lifestyle tbh (& oddly, can carry on for another year or 2 lol!). Ppl will likely disagree & think I’m crazy but I feel like this almost-2-year period has given me so much me time that I would likely NEVER have had if it were “normal”. Does that even make sense? Like what I mean is, I genuinely feel for those who have been sick & have lost loved ones (& esp post-secondary students who have experienced educational delays & cancellations of stuff), but on a personal level, I’ve gained knowledge & new skills, & used my time effectively. I don’t have the mindset of “we’ve wasted the past 18 months, unable to go anywhere or do anything fun, etc...” So yeah.. that’s me haha
