I know this doesn’t seem like much to some folks

It’s hope and love in the midst of loss and sadness.

This is more than Spock and Kirk, "going cannon."

It is two characters who were irrevocably influential to science fiction, to fandom, to media at large, getting a beautiful and poetic ending.

This is layered in Star Trek canon, but more than that it is Kirk and Spock reuniting.

Against all the odds in the universe, ours and theirs.

Kirk was dead. Spock was dead in ANOTHER DIMENSION. They died alone and without each other. This was their unbelievably tragic and cannon ending UNTIL TODAY.

Now their ending is this.

Reunification, connection, crossing time, space, and reality itself to be together again. Because that is how important they are to one another. Because that is how important they are to Star Trek itself. Because that is how important James Tiberius Kirk and S'chn T'gai Spock are to media at large, Star Trek fans and beyond.

This is monumental to a degree that I truly do not know if people can understand and I will NEVER get over it.

Delete this website immediately. While I admire your artwork and agreed to start an account to see more, the “feed” you and Yoo Jaeyi set up keeps suggesting strange things. I don’t recognize the term keysmash, the concept of a stan account is disturbing and potentially dangerous, and above all, I am quite sure Officer Lee Dongsik and I have never been, um, positioned in relation to each other in the physical ways that have been written and illustrated throughout the depths of this pornographic and nihilistically perky hellscape. I have no interest in being featured in someone’s “moodboard,” and the moment I discovered Lee Dongsik not only has an account here but also reblogged a number of these images with *comments*, I reported him to the site for indecency.

I implore you to cease and desist sending me Pinterest boards with ideas for my summer wardrobe (your opinions are wrong, incidentally, see my four follow-up emails explaining why). When you first proposed setting up an account for me, I thought it would be a murder board a board to brainstorm intelligent ideas. Instead I am inundated by “inspirational quotes” that are uninspired, derivative, and largely mis-attributed. Furthermore, many links are broken, suggesting issues with the site—for example, there is an error page if you click on ”How To Know What He’s Thinking About You,” which I attempted to access for research purposes.

That being said, I do appreciate the minimalism aesthetic pins and their creators. Very tidy. Send more of those.

EGOT winning american film, television, and broadway actor James Earl Jones has passed away on September 9, 2024 at the age of 93.

Jones made his film debut in Stanley Kubrick's Dr. Strangelove. He received a Golden Globe Award nomination for Claudine. Jones gained international fame for his voice role as Darth Vader in the Star Wars franchise, beginning with the original 1977 film. Jones' other notable roles include in Conan the Barbarian, Matewan, Coming to America, Field of Dreams, The Hunt for Red October, The Sandlot, and the voice of Mufasa in The Lion King. Jones reprised his roles in Star Wars media, The Lion King (2019) remake, and Coming 2 America.

Jones' television work includes playing Woodrow Paris in the series Paris between 1979 and 1980. He voiced various characters on the animated series The Simpsons in three separate seasons. He then was cast as Gabriel Bird, the lead role in the series Gabriel's Fire which aired from 1990 to 1991. Okay but the amazing thing about the writing in the show with this trio is that none of them are held up as the saint or cast down as the sinner (sorry Edwin. Too soon?) because their perspectives on any given case are informed by their trauma, so when they clash, you don’t vilify anyone:

Edwin is right that Crystal brought a demon into their lives and Charles is acting differently (because he experienced 70 years of hell and was dragged there by a demon, so demon stuff is sensitive and he doesn’t like change in his one solid relationship, which makes him snappish).

Charles is right that suffering is not a competition and they should stop fighting about it (because he is so, so desperate to escape memories of his own suffering and keep everyone happy even if it represses emotions).

Crystal is right that she’s out of her element in this, so if they took the case they should stick with it and help her (because she feels helpless, she is alone and scared of the sick bastard stuck in her head, she wants to be part of something good and not talk about how she might have been part of something bad).

Just beautifully done. No one’s fully right or wrong, just hurting.

I think the magic of the sauna scene (other than the obvious Thirst and Tension) is that it perfectly encapsulates the problems of their relationship—Patrick says too much, Art says too little, they both misunderstand each other and are hurt because as well as they know each other, this *thing* between them has always been a blind spot. Patrick is so open and loud with everything he does, and Art can usually tell when it’s sincere or performance, but not when it’s This. Art is so withdrawn and reserved with his feelings, and Patrick can usually see through the icy hardness to the softness it’s protecting, but not when it’s This. It takes a real external conflict, another person showing them each other’s real selves, for them to break out of their misperceptions.

I really don’t believe it’s a matter of unrequited love on Art’s side—but the problem is that Art is so afraid to be open about anything in himself that he would consider “not perfect”, meaning any hint of same-sex attraction, he buries it until New Rochelle. It’s so fitting that he’s apparently Ice—although those titles shift and blur sometimes—because his emotions are an iceberg, the visible only a tiny fraction of what lies beneath.

Then there’s Patrick, who is so, so loud and confident (at least externally) but when it comes to Art, the one person he had when he was a kid and had no one else, he’s cautious. I think Art’s the one area of his life where he’s exercised some restraint, some tact, where he’s been responsible. I’m like 99% sure the coaches assigned to him to be Art’s doubles partner initially because 1.) no one else could put up with him and 2.) with Art it’s an actual game, it’s fun, so he tries harder and gets creative. So the fear of risk is higher, because in a lot of key ways, Tashi is just like him and so he knows her, feels confident in his interactions with her and isn’t thrown by her reactions. Loving her means never having to say he’s sorry because he knows she won’t tolerate it, it’s all chaos and challenge, while loving Art is protecting that softness underneath while trying to thaw the icy exterior and convince him it’s all okay.

And to be frank, I think Patrick works out for the first time in New Rochelle that Art felt betrayed by him first, that that is where the anger really stems from—because the younger Art let himself be soft towards and trusting of Patrick, his constant, and then Patrick humiliated him and chose Tashi “over” him, without realizing that this was how Art would perceive it. Art’s feelings towards Patrick after the Junior Open are forever colored by that sense of mistrust and wariness, because in his mind Patrick is willing to dispose of him and then pick him up whenever he wants, so he can’t have really missed him or loved him, after all, right? Right. And in New Rochelle, in the start of those fifteen seconds where they reach that perfect understanding for the first time in decades, Patrick finally sees him and gets it (via a shot that almost takes his head off), why Art has stayed angry all these years, why Art kicked him out to begin with, why Art is at the end of his rope. And in his reaction Art finally, finally sees Patrick’s feelings for him, his genuine regret and unconditional love, and he finally believes it again. And that’s what allows this wary hypervigilant man to leap over a net—the restoration of belief that Patrick will catch him.

WHEN WILL THIS FILM BE DONE WITH MEEEE (Answer? Never. Because I am essentially Art Donaldson through and through and I hate it. Where are my Patrick and Tashi.)

God Patrick is just so in love with Art like through it all, even after the sauna scene, that when Tashi asks him to lose - the first thing he says is I can't believe you'd do this to him. He doesn't talk about not wanting to lose or how he doesn't want to let art win. Just how could you do that to Art. Someone give Patrick the yearner of the decade award
