So I know this post is pretty overdue and a bit superfluous by this point maybe, but since I am now back home and finally have time to sit down and write down my thoughts about the last few days, I thought I'd still do a recap post of my experience of the Dublin shows (and a bit about my trip to Dublin in general). Having said that though, I don’t actually know how to even begin putting into words what this trip meant to me 🥺 I’ve said this before, but after seeing them in June and thinking that was it for the foreseeable future, getting to see them again so soon, twice, and it being the very last two shows of the tour as well, felt like an incredible opportunity and huge gift and I could not be more grateful for it ❤️

I flew in from Amsterdam on Tuesday morning with a Dutch friend, and we met up with another friend of mine who flew in from London at the same time (my London friend went with me to Tuesday's gig, and my Amsterdam friend to Thursday's gig)

London friend and I then headed to the 3Arena to queue up outside and it was fucking freezing lmao. But we played ‘guess the Arctic Monkeys song from the intro’ and had a chance to catch up so all in all it wasn’t too bad, and it’s always so much fun being surrounded by fellow arctic monkeys fans who love them enough to queue up for hours in the cold <3

Once we were inside, we legged it to the stage and then spent another two hours trying to defend our (pretty good, very central) spots and trying not to think about the fact that we had to pee, as you do. We happened to be standing next to a group of Dutch speaking girls, and it turned out one of them had also met Miles in Amsterdam recently, at the same signing I’d been at! Such a small world. But they were really lovely so the two hours flew past, and then it was Miles time!!!!! ���

And my god, he literally blew everyone away, he was just insanely good as always. Being able to clearly see Alex’s intense, goofy and beautiful facial expressions, his HANDS, the cute little interactions he had with the rest of the band (giggles with Matt and smiley asides with Jamie and Nick), the moment where Alex made grabby hands at the plushie and then laughed some more when he couldn’t have it, Jamie being an absolute rockstar as always, Nick looking like a total snack (my friend has a giant crush on Nick, understandably so), Matt being a literal drum god (I love seeing him play SO much). Just... incredible 🙌🏻💘

I really wasn’t expecting Miles to join them during that show, so when Alex gave him a shoutout I knew it was just that, but my friend didn’t, so she started hitting me like “he’s coming back!” and I was like “no he’s not”, and he wasn’t unfortunately lmao. The Dutch and Belgian girls next to me were extremely disappointed (they were Milex shippers as well, of course), but I know at least one of them was there on Thursday as well so I love that for her. Anyway, it was such an incredible show and after it ended, we were just on cloud nine, singing Fluorescent Adolescent with everyone on the Luas going back to town, which is always just such a blast. And then we ended up in Temple Bar where there was more live music as well as about 500 other Arctic Monkeys fans, so that was great fun too 💫

The next day, the three of us went to a tattoo shop where I’d booked an appointment and I got my tattoo which I am EXTREMELY happy with. The tattoo artist was a girl from Brazil and when she asked me about the meaning of my tattoo (I’ll post a pic later) I told her it was an Arctic Monkeys song and the just yelled across the shop to a few other artists and it turned out they’d been at the concert too, so we all geeked out about them while I got my tattoo done lmao, so much fun 😂

Then my London friend unfortunately had to fly back home later that day, so my Amsterdam friend and I ended up in the pub again because that’s what we do. It was just a very average pub with two very average men playing amazing folk music, and when we walked in, I was like “huh that guy looks like Zackery Michael, that’s funny.” And then later I was stood next to him at the bar and heard he was American, so I was like hmmm, and decided to just ask him if he was in fact Zackery Michael. He was like “that is me!” lol (thank god, would’ve been embarrassing if it hadn’t been) so we had a little chat about the fact that we were both in town for Arctic Monkeys but in slightly different capacities lol, and he was just super nice and was happy to take a photo with me, and then I let him get back to his conversation with the three extremely pretty girls he was with 😅

Anyways, so then on Thursday after breakfast we bought some souvenirs and I bought some great Arctic Monkeys mini posters and some other stuff at this lovely little comic book/record store which was playing Humbug, the owner of which told us he also went to see Arctic Monkeys on Tuesday and loved them, so that was another amazing chance meeting 💜 And then it was after 12pm so it was time for whiskey, and then the meeting with the fellow TLSP/Arctic Monkeys/Miles Kane fan bartender happened which I posted about here, which was so lovely and also secretly made me want to believe it was a sign for the show that night 🙈

But I still couldn’t let myself hope or believe TOO much, so I just kept telling my friend “they’re not going to do it and that’s okay” and she was like “sure, whatever you say” 😂 We had seated tickets for this gig, so we were unfortunately much further away than I had been on Tuesday. And also I just don’t like being seated at concerts, let alone an Arctic Monkeys one, but to be honest, the seats were pretty good. Miles once again gave his absolute all and converted not just my Dutch friend as well, but also a lot of the people around us who we overheard saying things like “did you know he was this good??” and checking Miles’s Wikipedia page, which was great to see. And from up on the balcony we could clearly see that the people in the crowd were really singing along and having an amazing time during Miles’s set (COTT was extremely emotional, all the lights were so lovely ✨️) and I just felt so proud of him and happy for him that it was such a roaring success 🥹💖

The roaring success continued for Arctic Monkeys of course, although it was really weird to see so many people go mental for Snap Out Of It and Arabella etc. 😅 But yeah, the people do love AM it seems, which is why the first part of the setlist was pretty much the same as it had been on Tuesday. Hello You was amazing though!! And then after There’d Better Be a Mirrorball, I knew that it was 505 time, and Alex did say ‘Let’s hear it for Miles Kane’. But because it was the same thing he’d said before, I was still convinced Miles wouldn’t come on. AND THEN HE DID 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 I absolutely lost my shit, not even kidding. I just started screaming and threw my phone at my poor friend being like “FILM IT” which she did, bless her heart, and uhhh, yeah then I cried throughout the whole performance 😭 And then at the end, the lights went out and I saw their shadows (our shadow puppets <3) coming together so I was like did they hug??? And then I only found out later that evening when I checked tumblr that they in fact did hug and then my night was just completely made (lol, I say my night but I mean my life, obviously)

Do I Wanna Know was a total blur after that of course, but I was back for Body Paint which was absolutely incredible as always. And then they did Big Ideas as the encore and uuhhh yeah I sobbed 🙃 It was SO beautiful, and so special hearing it live with the strings, and SO fucking sad. And then once RU Mine? finished and the lights stayed off, I was like aaahhh we’re getting one more!! And then OF COURSE it was Perfect Sense because Alex is a dramatic bastard, and of course I cried some more. It was stunning and extremely emotional 💔

So then my friend and I went to drown my sorrows (and elation about the Milex reunion) in the pub and we actually had a great time with some fellow AM fans and live music again. I swear it was like all of Dublin was just there for Arctic Monkeys. Unfortunately, we were not in the pub where the boys apparently went ugh, but still, it was fun. And yesterday morning I woke up with a killer hangover so I swore I would not drink anymore, but it was raining so much, so we did end up in the pub again where we got talking to some really cool Irish guys who (surprise) also loved Arctic Monkeys, and they insisted on buying us drinks so obviously I couldn’t decline. So we just sat and drank with them until we had to catch our flight, and of course by that time I was tipsy and maudlin and the weather wasn’t helping so I cried all the way to the airport (especially since we passed the arena again) and then I cried some more in the airport like the drama queen I am 🥲

It’s just that I’m so sad it’s over, and so scared and worried about the future of the band, with how much this felt like a goodbye 😔 But I’m just going to assume that it’s just goodbye for now, and that they’ll take a well-deserved break, maybe do their own things for a while, and that in a few years’ time they’ll get back to making music together again. I really do think they have so much fun doing what they do together, and they’re basically like family, and Alex wouldn’t know what to do with himself if he couldn’t make music, so surely they’ll be back eventually. But please, just don’t be too long boys 🥺🙏🏻❤️

All in all, though, what has stayed with me most from this trip is a sense of gratefulness that I was lucky enough to experience all this, my 8th and 9th Arctic Monkeys gigs to date, the last dates of the tour, the Milex reunion (!!!!!!!) and to get to share it with two of my best friends in the world, a whole bunch of arctic monkeys loving strangers who I randomly met, and all of you guys I’ve met on here these past few months. The sense of connection and community I’ve found through this band means so much to me, more than I can say, actually, and I’m so grateful to them for that, in addition to the music they’ve given us. And although the tour is over, I am honestly looking forward to sharing the love we have for them with you all for a long time to come and for now, I am so excited about getting back to writing my silly little Milex stories (and insanely happy they finally gave us that little reunion we hope for, so that I’m still excited and hopeful about their relationship rather than heartbroken and resigned, which is what I probably would’ve been if they hadn’t performed together. So thank you for that, boys 💘)

So yes. Very, VERY long story short: Arctic Monkeys is and always will be my favourite band in the world, they ended the tour on an absolute high (and with Miles!) and this was an experience I will never, ever forget ❤️

I feel like one of the saddest things in 6x18 was how brainy looked at Alex and Kelly dancing. He was so longing looking, he so obviously wants that future with nia and knowing he can’t have it really hit him in that moment. So sad yet beautiful

Honestly, I had to rewind that moment and watch it again like 4 or 5 times before I could keep going with the episode.

It is such an incredible use of body language and facial expression that manages to perfectly exhibit just how much Brainy must be feeling in that moment. The way he's half sunk into his chair, clutching onto himself like he's about 2 seconds from a total mental breakdown, absolutely absorbed in Alex and Kelly laughing and dancing because the longer he watches them, the more it begins to sink in that he's about to lose all of that.

And it's not just his loved ones he's about to lose. Brainy is at a party where he's supposed to be celebrating his friends' engagement, he's surrounded by laughter and joy and he has to sit there knowing that he's essentially been handed his expiration date. When he leaves his family behind, he's going to die, and as far as we are aware, there is no one at that table - not even Nia - who knows that.

It's a truly harrowing expression in that regard and Jesse performs it absolutely perfectly. You're right, there's so much longing in that look, but also fear and heartache, so overwhelming that you can see the moment that Brainy very nearly goes over the edge and loses his composure. He catches himself just in time, though, blinking back into the moment and excusing himself before he can give anything else away.

I love that Nia is so aware of Brainy throughout, and the moment he leaves the table, she's ready to follow him. She might not know the horrible truth of what the future will bring for Brainy, but she knows enough that he absolutely cannot be left alone.

The scene that follows where Nia helps to ground Brainy was fantastic, especially with how touch-based it was. Yet again, we see the two of them factor in their main sources of comfort for each other, hand holding and of course Nia snuggling into her spot on Brainy's shoulder. The parallel of the pinky promise scene is incredibly poignant throughout, which further showcases how Nia and Brainy are so grounded by one another, even when it feels like the world is falling apart around them.

We truly did get some excellent performances and Brainia scenes from this episode, I just wish they could have been under better circumstances. 🥺

Layton's voice was drowned out by Melanie's thoughts, and in her peripheral, she spotted Ruth shuffling through the crowd to get closer to her.

"Well, come on, then. It'll be just like old times, won't it?" Ruth whispered, leaning into Melanie slightly. The raven haired woman felt her lips curl into a small smile, tilting her head to the side.

"Mm. I guess you could say that." Melanie shuffled her feet, looking at the bits of sand and small rocks beneat her combat boots. Felt weird, being on such uneven terrain - she couldn't feel the hum of the train with her anymore. That's something she'll have to get used to.

Everyone began to split up in different directions. Melanie stuck her hands into the front pockets of her jeans as the two of them walked away from the crowd, closer to the edge of the valley.

A veil of awkward silence hung heavy in the air, weighing on both their shoulders. The two of them scanning around for larger rocks fit for campfires. In the time they'd spent apart, things had changed. But that didn't change the fact that they missed each other.

Melanie stopped for a second, feeling a drop of water hit her scalp.

"Is it... raining?" She said out loud, brows furrowed, tipping her head up to look at Ruth.

"It can't be. Can it?" Ruth questioned, and with almost perfect timing, a few raindrops turned into a much heavier rainfall, drenching them both in minutes.

They both erupted in laughter, disbelief, tipping their heads back to let the water roll off their skin. Melanie raised her hands up to wipe her eyes.

Normally in her old life, Ruth would be livid if rain like this was messing with her hair, her clothes, but at this point, she didn't care. She was here with Melanie, and it was raining, for God's sake - two things she never thought she'd see again in her lifetime. She wanted to cherish it as much as she could.

"You suppose?" Melanie chuckled. "I have a feeling that you missed me more than you're admitting," she teased, grinning.

"Yeah, well. Maybe." Ruth shrugged playfully, and didn't even realize that she was grinning, too. Seeing Melanie's smile filled her with warmth, a feeling she'd never gotten tired of.

"Um... I guess I never got to say. Thank you for looking after Alex." Melanie stepped closer to the blonde, digging her feet into the wet dirt.

"You don't need to thank me, Melanie. She's just like you, you know. Stubborn, and so, so smart," Ruth watched Melanie light up as Ruth gushed about her daughter. "It was hard, of course. We had to prepare ourselves for the possibility that you weren't coming back..." Ruth faltered, closing her eyes for a moment.

Melanie couldn't tell if it was tears or rain running down Ruth's cheek. She could see Ruth's chest rising and falling with a few deep breaths, and wrapped her arms around the blonde's shoulders in a tight hug. Tears or not, she just wanted to hold Ruth.

Ruth buried her face into Melanie's wet jacket, squeezing Melanie tight around the hips. She sniffled, feeling Mel's chin against her forehead.

"I'm here now, Ruth. You don't have to worry about that." Melanie murmured, placing a hand on the back of Ruth's head.

"I felt you all the time. Even when everyone thought you were dead at the research station, I knew you weren't. You're always with me, even when you're not." Ruth pulled her face out of Melanie's jacket to look at her, a mixture of tears and rain streaming down her cheeks. "I can't get rid of you, can I?" She said playfully, chuckling, feeling Melanie's thumb graze her cheek.

"No getting rid of me now, Ruth. You might just be stuck with me." Melanie teased back, swaying them slightly in the rain. The raven haired woman pressed a kiss to Ruth's forehead.

"I think that's quite alright with me."

When their relationship starts they’re both a little unaware of what exactly it is or where it’s going, so they keep it under wraps for that reason, letting each other figure out if there are emotions and if so how much before anyone else is intruding into their business

They’d be careful around work/precinct to definitely not be physical, even just a little touch on the arm is going to raise suspicion with the squad.

At the DA’s office it’s a little easier, they’re often able to say that they’re just discussing cases, and usually have paper work spread over the table during lunch to make it look like their lie is the truth (though sometimes it is)

They try their best to not come into work together, or leave together, though sometimes it happens just by chance. If they’re not living together, they’ve both got keys to each other’s apartments to make it easier, and there’s lots of sneaky texts to arrange things. Date nights are never at Forlini’s or anywhere near the DA’s office, and they steer clear of spots that they know the squad likes to hit up

It’s the lingering glances, or the presence of one in the other’s courtroom more often that clues Donnelly in first about it (cause lets be real, she knows everything that goes on in that office whether it’s a secret or not).

She doesn’t confront them right away, letting them come to her, but when they don’t, she starts to keep a heavier eye on it

It’s the shared clothing that the squad picks up on first. First it’s just a white blouse, a pair of shoes, something that isn’t super descriptive, so it’s hard to tell, but when one of them comes in wearing something that the other was wearing the previous week, it’s obvious.

While alex & casey are a little bummed about their secret being out, they’re happy that they’re finally able to have a little bit of pda when they’re out with the team. Nothing major obviously, but a hand on a thigh, they’re able to arrive together, arm in arm, and maybe a little kiss on the cheek, and they’re happy when the squad doesn’t push too hard to get details out of them

OH MY GOD I’M SO EXCITED!! you have to also show me your new tattoo!! it would be likely that they would do piercings or know some really good place to get piercings. (it’s also generally more hygienic to get it done in a tattoo parlour!! because they already are so strict with tattoo procedures!)

i might get a couple more ear piercings too!! i can’t get piercings or tattoos for a while yet, because of some medication i’m on (i know, the tragedy, i nearly died when they told me this) so i have some time to think about it!! but i shall sit and ponder about the second nose piercing. will it be worth being murdered by my grandmother? (yes)

aww cece 🥺🥺 i’m sad you didn’t have anyone when you were figuring things out, but i’m also glad you were able to get through it and piece it together yourself. i understand, trying to work everything out can be so so lonely. i still feel it now sometimes. i don’t know what i did in a past lifetime to be lucky enough for these two people, but i appreciate them so much (i send your hugs their way!)

okay okay, you know the quote, “if alex’s head was the storm, henry was the place lightning hits ground?” i was thinking of getting the thunderstorm right when the lightning strikes, but it strikes directly into the palm of a hand, almost like a “i’ve got you” sort of thing! the idea came to me while i was at work one time and i was like i need this. but THAT QUOTE? A MILLION SHADES IN BETWEEN? oh my god. i’m in love with this tattoo already. you have the coolest tattoo ideas. i need to come up with more!! i will be dead for three centuries and you will find my ghost weeping about this book

he’s quite cute, i’ll send a pic next time (i am in a very comfy spot and i don’t want to move) and cece 😭😭 as much as i’m sure you’re sad you can’t go and how excited you were, it’s not worth stressing so much about it. they really messed up and that’s not your fault! going abroad is supposed to be fun, not stressful. you shouldn’t still be having to worry about accommodation a week from flying out! i’m glad you decided to not put yourself through that.

in the meantime, have a little think about what you want to do instead!! because uni should have elements of fun too!! maybe this was a blessing in disguise? maybe you can use this time to think about what you want to do and where you want to go, and who knows? you could be going on exchange to somewhere even cooler and for something you enjoy more! either way, i’m sending cuddles so you can feel better <3

yes, i’ve been starting to like breakfast. i used to never eat breakfast because it made me nauseous, but now i feel like i need something in the morning (especially from my little café) the lemon poppyseed cake was delicious! it was just what i needed after class! i really hope you can find something similar in italy soon!! perhaps it will make you feel better about the whole abroad thing? i’m sending forehead kisses and a little lemon poppyseed cake (it has a cream cheese vanilla frosting on top!) <333

how are you my dear? i hope these past few days have treated you kindly. it’s been two days and i’ve missed you. as promised, here is a little recap of my trip!!

before my trip though, i took myself out on a date! i caught the tram all the way down the line and went shopping by myself. i bought a grand total of seventeen books :) (my arms were very sore) in one of the bookstores i went into, they have this thing where you can buy them wrapped, so it adds a bit of mystery. all you know about it is the hints and descriptions written on the paper. curiosity got the better of me, and i bought two. i also managed to find a lot of classics, including two works of oscar wilde, i hadn’t seen before. now i just need to buy myself a new bookshelf next time i go out…

so my trip! i went to sydney with a friend. i’ve never been before, and honestly, it’s pretty alright. i don’t think i could live there or go for any longer than i did, but it wasn’t too bad, considering all the bad things i have heard about it. we went initially for a concert on the saturday, but we were like “hey we may as well stay the friday night too.”

cece, when i say i had the best japanese i’ve ever had in my entire life on friday night, i mean it. we had gyozas, karaage chicken and a spicy pork ramen. i wished i could have finished it all, it was so delicious. we had to wait for a table for maybe half an hour, but it was sooo worth it. afterwards, we had their green tea ice cream, which was incredible. i would send you a cone!

the concert started at 7pm on the saturday, so we had the day to kill. we met up with my friend’s brother and his partner, and they took us around to their fav places. we went into the gayest cafe i have ever been to in my entire life. not one person in that building was cishet. rainbows were EVERYWHERE. the entrance was painted rainbow, little rainbow flags were hanging out the windows, they had the cute collectable spoons. it was adorable. we had paninis and tea, and i had never felt so at home.

after we ate, we went into this shopping centre into the coolest little bookstore. i bought two books and a little pin. i restrained myself, i was so proud. i was served by a person with the coolest mullet (i mustered the courage to tell them and they were so sweet). we also went to the lego store (i bought lego sunflowers for my friend’s birthday), it was just a really fun time

now the concert. i have never been to a concert before, but it was so so so fun. we had the best seats you could get without vip, and i’m talking perfect view of the stage. i was so tired after, but in a good way

well, now i am home and i’m so happy i went on that trip. i needed the break from work and uni, and i have another trip coming up too, so i should be less stressed throughout the semester :))

i’m sorry i’m late to answer, but i was on a little trip too actually!! and i’ve missed you so much in these few days!! i’ve missed out letters!!

oh my god nero!!! that date sounds amazing!!! i love that kind of me time so much!! and i mean, you got out of the shop with 17 books?? that’s literally the best way to spend a day!!! and i love those wrapped books where you can’t really know much about what’s inside, it’s so awesome when you get home and you unwrap them 🥺 and all the classics!! you’re definitely gonna need a new bookshelf but i’m guessing it’s gonna be worth it for all these new books!!

wait does sydney have a bad reputation?? i didn’t know this! but i’m really glad you liked it, even if not for more than a few days 😅 and it seems fair, i guess it’s a really big and chaotic city so it can’t be easy to live there.

but that japanese, oh my god i’m craving some too now!! it sounds sooo good!! i haven’t had japanese in so long, especially the green tea ice cream, and now i really really crave a cone, so i would gladly accept that one!!

nero i swear, every time you talk about these little cafes you go to you make me want to book a plane ticket to australia to come try all of them. and this one sounds so awesome!! gosh i wish i was there too to see all the rainbows and feel at home!!! it honestly sounds like the perfect queer cafe!!! why don’t i have something like that here too?? 😭 the urge to book a plane ticket is getting really strong, i’m not even kidding

and the concert!!! your first concert is always the coolest experience!! definitely tiring too, but i’m so happy you had fun!! and the seats seem perfect!! i’ve never been to a concert where i had seats, i’ve always had parterre, but i’m so happy you could see the stage that well!! and who did you go see?? (if you want to say of course!)

uhh another trip? that’s great!! you deserve some little breaks like this with all that stress from uni and work!! i’m so glad you had fun and hope your next trip is as good as this one!!! <33

so as i said i was on a little trip too! i went to budapest, it was kind of a last minute holiday, but i had a lot of fun!! i’d already seen the city a few years ago but i loved it so much i was happy to go back. we just spent a few days there so we didn’t get to see the whole city, because it’s really big, but i’m still really glad i got to see some of my favorite places again!!

also, i went with my mum, who doesn’t speak english at all, so i was supposed to be in charge and talk all the time, and i was so worried because i can never talk to people, but i did it!! i managed to walk into restaurants and ask for a table or ask people for directions and stuff like that and everyone was just so nice!!

we went to the bastion which is my absolute favorite place and you can see the whole city from there, and we also did a little cruise on the danube at night so we could see all the city lit up and it was awesome!! and i got to eat some of that amazing food again!! they have a lot of fried and spicy stuff that is soooo good. i wish i could send you some of that too because honestly it’s amazing!!

i got back last night and now i’m super tired because of all the walking in the city but i’m glad i went too, it was a really nice trip!!
