Sweet Potato Biscuits This recipe makes a wonderfully light and fluffy biscuit. A great way to use up those leftover mashed sweet potatoes. Makes a delicious sandwich with a slice ham, or simply topped with butter.

For savory dishes, I’m more of a chicken and dumplings or maybe even Virginia ham kinda guy, but overall—outside of the savory realm—my absolute favorite southern dish is chess pie.

Prompt 4 - Marriage of Convenience
@wolfstarmicrofic May 4, word count 972
Sirius spotted him while out shopping for new shoes. They’d lost touch after school. He and James had gone to prestigious universities, but Remus’s parents hadn’t been able to afford them, so Remus had gone straight into working for his father.
Remus was slumped in a closed shop doorway. He had about three threadbare jumpers on and a grubby duvet tucked around his legs. He had an old fast-food cup sat in front of him and passers-by tossed coins into it.
Sirius approached. He had to once he realised who he was.
“Remus?” He asked. Remus slowly opened his eyes, as though it took a lot of energy. Once the recognition sunk in, his eyes began darting about, looking for an escape. He grabbed his things in his arms and lurched to his feet. “Hey, hey, calm down.” Sirius tried to calm him. He reached out to steady him as he swayed on his feet. “I have a flat down the road. Come and have a cuppa.” He wrapped his arm around his old friend and began to lead him away from the gloomy doorway.
He put a steaming mug of tea in front of him and the tin of biscuits. He went hunting in his fridge and cupboards and made him a thick ham sandwich with a wedge of cheese and a whole bag of Doritos. “Eat as much as you want.” Sirius told him. It was only when he’d put his arm around his friend that he’d realised how skinny he was. Remus dug in as if he hadn’t eaten in days. Which could very well be true given the state he was in. When they’d been boys Remus would easily have been able to finish the entirety of food before him. But this emaciated man could barely get the sandwich down. He dunked a couple of biscuits in his tea and that was it. “Come on Remus. I know you can eat more than that.” He goaded slightly, worry marring his face. Remus shook his head.
“If I eat more I’ll be sick.” His voice was barely a crackle from lack of use. It broke Sirius’s heart.
“What happened to you?” He needed to know. He couldn’t understand why Remus hadn’t come to one of them.
“My father caught me with one of his employees in a compromising position, and he threw me out with nothing but what I managed to get on before he shoved me out of the door.”
“What, he chucked you out because you were shagging Brenda from accounting?” Sirius scoffed. Lyall had always been a hard bastard.
“Jeremy from marketing, actually.” Remus winced as he took a sip of his tea and added more sugar.
“Well, I refuse to let you spend one more night on that street. You’re taking my guest room and that’s that.” Sirius folded his arms and dared his friend to argue with him. Remus didn’t have the energy anyway.
The next morning, Sirius arranged a meeting with his solicitor. Remus was still sleeping, so he left him a note.
“I’m sorry Mr Black, but unless you are related to him or married you cannot, gift him the amount you want to.” Arthur had stuttered at him. All he wanted to do was set Remus up, so he wouldn’t have to worry. Sirius could afford it. What was a house, a car, a new wardrobe and all the bills paid for if he got to help a friend?
“Thank you, Arthur.” He shook his hand and left. Stupid laws. But there was a way if only he could get Remus to agree.
Remus was picking at a slice of toast when he got back. He sat down opposite him and put on his serious face. “Remus, I need to ask you something, and you aren’t going to like it.” Remus’s head tilted and his brow furrowed. “I want to help you. Like properly. I want to get you a house and a car and whatever else you need. But my solicitor says I can’t just gift you that amount without you being related to me or,” He paused for a second. “Married to me.” He let the words sink in. Remus’s eyes widened in shock.
“You—you want to marry me?!” He stuttered, dropping his toast onto his plate.
“Don’t worry, we can still see other people.” Sirius winked at him.
“Shut up. No. I mean why? Why would you want to do all that for me?” Sirius took pity as Remus’s eyes glistened with unshed tears. He reached across the table and took his friend's hand in his.
“Because my family kicked me out and disinherited me when they caught me in a compromising position with Bernard from IT.” Remus’s eyes grew wider.
“Oh,” He said. Sirius moved around the table and got down on one knee.
“Remus Lupin, will you marry me, so I can gift you all the things I want to and know you’re safe. I don’t want anything in return and if you want a divorce down the line, I’ll sign the papers. But please know I want this because you're one of my best friends, and you mean the world to me.” He grinned a crooked smile at his friend, which turned into a full beaming smile when Remus nodded his head.
“Okay, yes. If you’re sure.” He swallowed and added shyly. “Do I have to move into a house straight away or can I stay here for a bit?”
“You can do whatever you want, Remus, stay as long as you want and when you’re ready we can talk about what you want to do. But just know you’ll have a very nice allowance as my husband.” He added cheekily.
They started the paper work that afternoon and were married within a month.

WARNING: eating disorder
Word count: 1k
masterlist || have a request/ask? Here are the rules <3
Food makes me sick and gives me fear that I will ruin my body. I feel guilt every time I eat. My appetite keeps getting worse. I’m writing this on the behalf of all people out there who are struggling with the same problem hence I’m writing in 2nd person. I chose Simon for this because he represents great comfort for me.

Tumblr media Tumblr media
Every time he lays his eyes on you it seems as if you’re getting thinner. Every time he holds you he fears he’s going to snap you in half. Your wrists and ankles appear thinner as your cheeks are starting to stick to your teeth, exposing your paper cutting cheekbones. The color of your skin had a lack of necessary vitamins and minerals written all over it.
When he’d trace his hand over your back he could count every vertebra in your spine, as well as you ribs. When he’d kiss your collarbones he’d notice how unnervingly exposed they’ve gotten.
He’d notice how you’d try to hide it with wearing his clothes more often.
You wouldn’t talk to him. You wouldn’t tell him anything. You didn’t want to be a burden.
“‘ere ya go, luv.” he said as he served your favorite mug filled with warm tea he’s just made, sitting his heavy body at the kitchen table diagonally from you.
You thanked him quietly as your sleepy body was still trying to adapt to the gloomy morning you had to face. His casual black t-shirt that you often sleep in protecting your tormented body from the light cool breeze of the slightly open window behind you.
“Look at me, luv.” his voice dipped in a barrel with “serious” written all over it.
You wouldn’t lift your heavy head. You wouldn’t speak. You’d just keep drinking your tea.
“Sweethear’, please, look at me.” he adjusted in his seat, leaning closer to you with his elbows on his knees. His gloved hands and a gently ticking watch around his wrist that would fill in the gaps of silence meeting your bowed gaze.
You wouldn’t lift your head. You wouldn’t speak. You’d just keep drinking your tea.
“Y/N.” your name being coated by his raspy voice coming from his smoker cords and rough accent from suburban Manchester made your empty stomach ache even more. His tone calm though. As if he was trying not to scare a hopeless wounded animal sitting before him.
You wouldn’t lift your head. You wouldn’t speak. You’d just keep drinking your tea.
“I am many things but oblivious is not one of ‘em. You need to talk to me, luv. You need to tell me what’s bothering you.” he said as you’d feel his gaze piercing through you.
“There’s nothing wrong with reaching out, luv, you know that?”
You wouldn’t lift your head. You wouldn’t speak. You’d just keep drinking your tea.
“You need to eat. You cannot live with a cuppa and a single biscuit hoping those liters and liters of water you’ve been drinking day after day will ease the hunger.” the amount of reality he was pouring into your brain was almost making your tears come out of your stomach instead of your eyes.
But you wouldn’t lift your head. You wouldn’t speak. You’d just keep drinking your tea.
Which would slam a thick nail into his stone cold heart.
“Listen to me carefully now. There’s two sandwiches in the fridge, ham and peanut butter jelly. You will have a glass of milk with that. For lunch I’ve made the British classic, fish and chips. We will ignore the fact I am not capable of making anything else.” he threw a little joke in there which pulled your lips into a tiny smile and made your gaze finally lift up.
Your sweet eyes met his. You couldn’t see the smile of relief under his mask but his cheeks lightly scrunching underneath his eyes was telling you enough.
“That’s my good gal.” he said before his tall broad figure with a dark aura stood in front of you, looking down at you.
“I will be back before six. I don’t want to see a single crumb on the plates when I get back. Do I make myself clear, soldier?” so he wouldn’t make it sound hoarse and aggressive, he made it entertaining for you.
“Copy loud and clear, lieutenant.” finally he got feedback from you.
“Good.” he said as he leaned to plant a soft kiss on your temple, placing his hand on the back of your head. He was looking down at you for a couple of seconds filled with comforting silence. All that you could hear is his loud inhales that were coming through the dark fabric of his mask. All that you could feel is his hand soothingly stroking your head.
“You willingly did all this for me…?” you asked.
“Shhh. Don’t speak.” he said almost through a whisper before he lifted his mask merely to reveal his mouth. He slowly leaned and planted a petal soft yet long kiss onto your forehead as he closed his heavy eye lids.
You thickly swallowed the urge to burst into tears on his lightly equipped gear he prepared for today’s short mission. Your mouth danced along with your eyebrows as a singular tear tickled its way down your cheek and along your jawline before Simon’s glove caught it.
He gently lifted your head farther up by the chin, holding painful yet soothing eye contact.
“Promise me you will do it.”
“Simon, I-“
“Promise me.”
“I will…” you said as a deep sharp breath scratched your lungs.
“I need to hear you say it.”
“I promise.”
“That’s my sweet gal. You know how to make me proud, don’t you?” he kept tickling your heart with praises and encouragement as he very carefully tucked some of your hair behind your ear.
The last thing you felt was a gentle stroke of his bare thumb on your cheek as the rest of his gloved hand nicely warmed it up.
“Can you buy me those chocolate chip cookies I like on your way back? And some gummies perhaps…” your voice toned down with each word you’d barely muster.
What you said made a light chuckle escape Simon’s chest as the sound of his heavy boots thumping on the old creaking floor was making its way to the front door.
“Duly noted.” was the last thing you heard from him before the sound of the heavy door closing greeted him out, pulling the air from the window and making it whistle its way across your mug as the herb scented steam danced along.

I got asked this awhile back, and wanted your opinion too. Jonathan fav foods?? Feel free to go into detail ♡
sorry for getting to this so late but man favorite foods! I did a short list of foods he's fond of at one point but it's a bit outdated, but as a quick list off the top of my head:
Biscuits and gravy, both the sausage and white gravy and ham and red-eye gravy varieties, as far as he's concerned they're a filling staple and taste good too.
Jambalaya, really any Cajun rice dish is one he enjoys but that one's his favorite, his grandfather taught his grandmother how to make them so they're also childhood dishes.
Hummingbird cake, he makes it from scratch at least once every year.
Pumpkin bread, specifically that loaf-pan sweet variety. Warm with a little brown sugar butter is ideal.
Peach-pecan pie, especially his family recipe.
Coffee-flavored...anything, really.
Pulled pork sandwiches with peach bourbon bbq sauce. If you've never had it I highly recommend it. Though notable Jon will stand by this is better if the pork is wild boar.
Apples and peaches, baked or raw, favorite apple is Pink Lady, favorite peach is Belle of Georgia.
Apple cider, obviously.
We all know my Jon's a whiskey-drinker, lesser known is his preference for honey whiskey.
Sweet tea is a necessary addition to this list, I can't not include it.
Since tis the season yes, Jon likes pumpkin spice coffee, though if pressed his second favorite flavored coffee is buttered rum. He doesn't usually like flavored coffee much, though.

Things that I am convinced are broke family culture:
Main dinner food is "filler" like rice or potato, then a lil meat or veggie.
One bowl or smthn is the designated puke bucket.
Fighting over the one couch cushion that isn't deflated/stained/torn open/got a spring sticking in it
"A door is a privilege not a right" cause there's nothing else they can take away
Clothes and shoes are bought a couple sizes too big so you "have room to grow"
Thrift store thrift store thrift store thrift store
Fighting your siblings for "the good blanket" (soft but lumpy, stuffing wadded up inside) or "the good pillow" (belonged to one of your parents before you were born)
Sneaking naps on your parents bed cause their mattress hits different
"You're not going to school today cause your younger sibling is sick and I gotta go to work"
Making cash under the table doing work for the neighbors at age 9
Biscuit tin full of sewing supplies
The 3 types of sandwich: PB&J, Ham and butter, cheese and mayo.
Watering down the juice to make it last longer
Watering down the soap to make it last longer
Stashing your Halloween candy like it's hard drugs and rationing it till fucking Easter
Your parents clothes are your clothes now

Favorite Desserts; Bad Kids Edition
With a side of family memories ^^

Adaine: Earl Grey Cheesecake
While she didn't enjoy the stuffy atmosphere of the Abernant residence (no mementos around the house except in the bedrooms, rarely any blankets or pillows because her parents didn't see any need for them since they trance, etc.), afternoon tea was always served with tiny square pieces of Earl Grey Cheesecake along with other pastries. Adaine found them delicious, and even after leaving her family, she scoured the town for a pastry shop that could replicate it, but soon gave up. When she moved into Morded Manor, Jawbone overheard her gushing about it to Kristin and Fig. He jumped at the challenge, and one day after school Adaine came home to find a beautifully decorated slice of it on the counter with a note saying "Adaine ♡" beside the plate. It was the best cheesecake she'd ever eaten.
----
Gorgug: Bread and Apple Pudding
Every Moonar Yulenear Digby and Wilma will make a bread pudding and serve it with cinnamon apples and a scoop of ice-cream. When he was five, he asked how it was made. Wilma told him that the secret ingredient was love. Corny as it was, Gorgug was completely convinced that all it took to make the dessert was put some bread and apples down on the counter and "I love you," and it'd turn into pudding. When he was nine, Wilma and Digby let him join in on making the pudding. It became apparent that his previous theory was not the case. However, right at the end, Digby gave his wife a kiss and hugged Gorgug's leg, and that's when he realized what Wilma meant. He makes it every year with them, and sometimes without them. (He prefers with.)
----
Fig: Fried Ice-Cream
When Fig was seven, Gilear took her out to a small, family-run diner near the edge of town for lunch. She had empanadas and her father had a kinda pathetic looking ham sandwich, and afterwards they shared a fried ice-cream. Fig got the cherry-on-top (and Gilear got a brain freeze). They sat at the park til the sun began to set, and then they headed home. (Sandra-Lynn made muffins, but Gilear kept the thousand-calorie secret to himself.) It was Fig's best memories. A week before Freshman Year, she walked back to the same place and ordered a fried ice-cream. The waitress who served her mentioned in passing that a sad looking elf came by only a few hours prior and requested the same thing. He left the cherry-on-top.
----
Fabian: Oatmeal Biscuits
Fabian doesn't remember how old he was when he baked his first batch. Cathilda dropped by his room one evening, while his father was out on Leviathan and his mother was taking a nap, and asked him if he'd like to make a dessert with her. The halfling had always been his confidant, and he'd been feeling lonely, so he jumped at the offer. They made their way downstairs and Cathilda announced that they'd be making a pastry that had been passed down from her parents, and she'd decided that he was family enough she'd teach it to him. The recipe was simple; a package of oatmeal, cinnamon, butter, etc. Fabian dropped the first bowl of batter on the floor and freaked out, expecting Cathilda to shoo him back to his room, but she just cleaned it up and they started a new batch. Halfway through a food fight broke out with the old batter, but it was cleaned up before Hillariel came downstairs for another drink.
----
Kristin: Peanut Brittle
Kristin's family doesn't eat much sugar. Sure- they'll make a nice little pie for the Sol holidays, but they're also the kind of family who will base all their meals off of the calorie count. However, during some family vacation to visit relatives in the middle of nowhere, they dropped by a small country store and, at the request (hysterical begging) of her brothers, the Applebees' caved and bought a package of peanut brittle. Kristin tried on of the four peices (she offered one half to her parents, but they declined) and immediately fell in love with it. She tried to remake a few weeks later but the Applebees' refused to buy the ingredients. She didn't attempt it again until moving into Mordred. It was Tracker who suggested she make it, one day while they were at a candy shop. Kristin bought the ingredients, set up in Mordred, and baked a large sheet of it that was almost immediately devoured by her and the Bad Kids.
----
Riz: Flourless Chocolate Cake
Riz isn't one for sweet treats. He likes sugar, but he's also the person who orders a soda in a vintage bottle when the rest of his friends have ice cream. However, his father made a flourless chocolate cake during one of his and Sklonda's anniversaries, and Riz was invited to taste test to ensure that Pok's beautiful wife would get top-notch dessert by the end if it. They served it with raspberries during breakfast. Sklonda enjoyed it immensely. Riz, of course, got all the credit for being "Dad's little sous-chef". Some days, after Pok died, he would make it again, and he and Sklonda would bring it and some lunch out to the cemetery to have a family picnic. Fabian saw him making one once, and asked Cathilda to help him create it for Riz's birthday.

Holy- thats- that's a lot. I am SO sorry XD
These are all amazing and awesome. No notes A+
Never apologise for sending me long ones lol (I love reading them on my breaks)

Hi there! I saw that you ask for request about the demons, so I'm here to request for Gyutaro with a S/O who wants to have a tea party with him.
That's it, hope you have a good day!
Hoi! Thank you for requesting (^0^.) And for requesting Gyutaro too, I've not written anything for him yet so I hope I got him right.
I hope you enjoy these headcanons ☆彡 My askbox is always open if you want to slide anything my way - e.g. questions, personal headcanons, request etc. - and if you have the time.
Gyutaro with an S/O who wants a tea party with Him - Headcanons:
Tumblr media
You want a what? A tea party? With him???
Surprisingly it takes very little to convince him to join you for one - He's always been weak to your pouty lips and watery doe eyes
A day chosen and blocked out in both of your schedules
And when he first arrives, Gyutaro stands awkwardly in your kitchen doorway not knowing where you wantd him to be until you usher him with your soft voice and hands and force him down in a comfortable cushioned chair across from yours
"You've really gone all out, huh?" He grumbles, looking at the large round table filled with serving stands and a pretty teapot with matching cups + saucers
One serving stand with four tiers, holding different types of sandwiches - Noting the range of flavours you've made (Cheese. Ham + Mayo, Tuna Mayo, Egg Cress to name a few)
Another filled with cakes and one of scones with clotted cream and jam - strawberry Gyutaro notes with a wrinkle of his nose
As well as pastries, petits-fours, biscuits and cookies
Won't admit it but he does have a sweettooth - Eyeing up the tiers that contain a large variety of cakes, biscuits and cookies - already picking the order of what sweet-thing to eat first
A whine parting his lips when with a wiggle of your brows - and that stunning smile of yours - you piled his plate with sweet goodies
You'd even gone all out with the teas! Having brewed three different types - Earl Grey, Ginger with Honey and Lavender
"There's and order to drinking the tea Gyutaro!" You said, excitedly filling up his cup with one of them "We have to save the Lavender for last as it's meant to be soothing and the perfect drink for nerves"
Gyutaro followed your order, sniffing each type of tea before drinking - nose wrinkling in disgust at the strong smell of the ginger although it tasted nice with honey
You'd even brought card and board games as entertainment!
While tea parties are meant to last about 2-3 hours long, this tea party lasted for 4 hours
Simply enjoying each others company
Letting the comforting sounds of your home - of the nature outside and the sound of rain - sink into the foundations
And when you both did speak, it was calmly and relaxed
"Lets....Lets do this again," Gyutaro murmurs into his cup, form hunching over in fear of rejection "I enjoyed this....."
Gyutaro's heart skips a beat when you joyful agree - his lips wobbling up into a smile back as a shy giggle bubbles in his chest
And thus, a tradition was born for you both

The stew from Wind in the Willows that contains nine animals.

The biscuit-cookie things from Scamper the Penguin. They're infamous for making the ten people who've actually seen this movie crave Nilla wafers.

The marmalade roll from Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe

The Cullens don't eat, but what were their favorite foods when they were human?
Sources for more reading: 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6
Carlisle - So, foods in the 1600s weren't exactly the greatest. Carlisle ate better than most, but it was still meager. There was a lot of mutton and venison, oats and other grains; lots of spinach and sorrel and stews. He was quite fond of fruit pies as a dessert, when they could afford them.
Esme - Honestly? Esme was quite fond of Oreos; the little cookies were first released in 1912 and she adored them. In fact, she liked most sweets, especially Angel Food Cake and these apricot biscuits that her mother used to favor.
Edward - Edward remembers liking pork a lot as a child, when his mother would cover them in bread crumbs and fry them in oil. He was also a fan of glazed carrots and liked caramel candies.
Rosalie - she loved baked apples, especially when drizzled with honey. Grapefruit was also quite popular then, and she remembers eating them a lot for breakfast when they were sprinkled with sugar. They were very lucky to have food on their table at the time, and she remembers eating a lot of fried egg sandwiches, glazed ham, and potato soup.
Emmett - They didn't have access to a lot of foods, so there was a lot of tinned meats and vegetables that his mother grew in their garden. His family is Scotch-Irish, so he ate a lot of cabbage and corned beef, which he loved. He remembers colcannon most fondly, that spiced mixture of potatoes, turnips, and carrots.
Jasper - food was rationed for Jasper as a soldier in the Civil War. There was a lot of molasses, hard tack, and salt. Wheat and cornmeal were quite common, so if he had to choose, he thinks that he misses cornbread the most. It was such a simple dish back then, a rare delicacy when they could have access to sugar.
Alice - she misses seafood most of all. She vaguely remembers eating fried fish and brown rice. She also misses certain fruits, like cherries and strawberries.

Okay rereading SITQ right now and I need to know how you make a breakfast sandwich- it contains bacon, fried eggs and cheese and that already sounds good but I’m curious if this is something you personally cook as well and if so, in what way?
Yes! Breakfast for dinner was A Thing in my family growing up (more gravy and biscuits kind of vibe but still). I do bacon and egg sandwiches a lot for lunch. I’m like 50-50 if I actually put cheese on it but if I do it’s usually cheddar. When I fry my eggs I bust the yolk bc I hate runny eggs personally but you can do scrambled or whatever, and then just melt the cheese on top of the eggs in the pan and add to the sandwich with all the bacon, or sausage or ham if you like that better. You can do whatever kind of bread you want, I like sourdough best and I always toast it, but you could do like a brioche or just a biscuit or anything else that speaks to you. Waffles as the bread? French toast? A bagel? Go wild my friend

woof have I had a long day, my whole family has.
Hannah and Barbara have for some time had a thing the correct name for which I have promptly forgotten. It's a subtype of squint in which, put simply, both eyes don't always point the same way at the same time. They have perfectly fine vision but it looks strange, a bit like Columbo. The medical advice was to do a small operation on the muscles around the eyes to correct it. We went through the public system for this and it took over a year to get a date for it, which I suppose is not bad in the circumstances, but yeah.
So I took the day off work to go and be a support person and general helper for my sister (my parents were along to help too, they're both retired), and we've spent most of the day waiting, first for the girls to be taken in for their surgery, one after the other, then for them to wake up after the anaesthetic and be sufficiently recovered to go home. When Hannah (who went in first) was waking up, my sister was still with Barbara getting her anaesthetised, so I had to go in and try to comfort her while she was absolutely miserable, spaced out from anaesthetic, not sure what day it was, unable to see to begin with, sore, in a strange place, and although I did my best to soothe I couldn't settle her down properly until her mum was able to come and join us.
The nurses (who were all kind, patient and efficient, we thanked them very much) kept trying to suggest a snack she might like now she was allowed food, and she didn't want an iceblock*, she didn't want ice cream, she doesn't like jelly**, all their sandwich options sounded terrible (egg, cheese and pickle, and corned beef - not even a plain ham) - finally, as a last resort, one of them suggested a biscuit and I was like YES she LOVES biscuits if I'd known BISCUITS were an option I would have asked for them at once. So she had a Milk Arrowroot and three Krispies and a drink of water and they had a mighty restorative effect.
Then we had to wait for absolute ever for Barbara to be finished, and when she was waking up in recovery my sister had to go to her while I waited in discharge with Hannah, and of course she was back at ground zero of how Hannah had felt but maybe worse because I think they had to give her more anaesthetic to knock her out, hence she was slower to wake. When we could finally go home Hannah was actually relatively perky and calm (she could open her eyes properly now and see, although with some double vision) but Barbara was still miserable. It all took hours longer than I'd expected because of that waking up stage.
Now we're all home and they're absolutely exhausted so there have been several emotional outbursts and gosh I can't wait for them to go to sleep, it's what they need and will be a relief for us all.
