(NOTE: I'm reading the Dark Horse [physical] and the Overhaul [online] translations side-by-side)

SO. first page. Brad's shoving Jessica into an escape pod. when Jessica tries to insist on staying, Dark Horse has Brad replying with "Get in the 'shell'!! We're at low altitude, we'll touch down soon!" which. always confused me. until I read the Overhaul's translation, which has Brad saying "Get in the ship! We're at a low altitude, so it'll land quickly!"

moving into Wolfwood's...flashback? dream? thing? we see this habit Dark Horse has of keeping in honorifics. I've noticed this throughout my re-readings (like Milly saying 'sempai' where, in the Overhaul, she says 'ma'am'...and they pretty consistently keep the '-san's and '-kun's and whatnot), but...idk. this is one of the more interesting instances to me. Dark Horse has the kids calling Wolfwood "Nico-onii-chan" and "Nico-nii" whereas the Overhaul translates these things as "Big Brother Nico" or just "Big Brother".

on the next page...idk, kind of context-changing translation discrepancies? at least, it changed my understanding of this bit. Dark Horse has Wolfwood saying to the kids "It would appear...I'm no longer fit to hold you guys..." and you can see his bloody hands as he says this, so previously, I interpreted this bit as metaphorical blood on his hands and/or maybe his hands are physically fucked up? but in the Overhaul, it's "It seems...I no longer have the right to hold ya..." and that drives the visual metaphor home way better imo.

BUT THEN...WE'RE BACK TO VASH AND WOLFWOOD'S ANTICS 😆

here's a translation discrepancy I'm attributing to Dark Horse doing weird localization things (again). it completely changes the context, messing with this recurring theme we see across vol 1-2 of how ordinary, nonviolent folks will turn to violence when their family is hurt or in danger. to quote Wolfwood in ch 4 of vol 1 of Trigun Maximum (Overhaul translation), "Even people who would never fight will pick up a gun if their loved ones are killed." I'm p sure I've said it before, but that goes all the way back to Vash going against Knives for causing the Fall (killing humans, whom Vash basically considers extended family, as Sensei explains in ch 6 of Trigun Maximum vol 1) and killing Rem (closer adopted family). so yeah, that thing Wolfwood says...that's something Vash knows intimately. so I don't think it's a stretch to say that perhaps that's a big part of why Vash keeps intervening (even when he's hurt or sick as hell;;;;;)...

ANYWAY.

something interesting I noticed about THIS freaky s.o.b.:

in this panel, Dark Horse has him saying "And lost property is lost property, right? Am I wrong? Hmm?" meanwhile, in the Overhaul...he has a pretty distinct Spanish accent? like, saying "Lost property is lost property. Am I right, or am I right, jefe? Comprende?" and that accent goes beyond this panel, so. THAT'S interesting. 🤔

and, once again, the Overhaul's translation makes more sense, as we literally just saw this guy light his cigarette with this thing.

good wordplay in both translations! I'm not sure why Dark Horse leaves out that one bit, tho 🤨

I think Church’s player didn’t even know why she was saying these things she just blacked out and Church’s angry spirit started screaming through her, seance-style. She’s vagueing about important role powers that will prove her village as soon as she claims them and also that will make everyone sooooo sorry if they vote her, just you wait and see!!!11!11

Several people LOL at this and tell her to put her money where her mouth is. Tucker’s player thinks the whole situation is p hilarious and compares this to how Church’s player is known for just, doing braggadocious shit that gets her caught as the imposter in Amongus with the confidence of someone that knows they’re not the imposter (I love her so much).

Church continues his Righteous Crusade against Simmons and Wyoming as if he has any sway and half the thread isn’t coming for his head. And also, uh, vagues having powers to “strong arm” the vote????

Literally I cannot begin to explain why she said that. Lying about having a very unusual role that would be a fairly wolf-skewed one (more beneficial for wolves than villagers so more likely to be assigned to a wolf) seems suboptimal for proving you’re village. I think she was just that full of rage and panic that she made up a thing to “blow up the whole goddamn world” with. God bless.

Fixing Rapunzel’s character, giving her actual flaws, and practically re-writing the entire Tangled movie and the series all in a series of posts.

Also yeah this is Canon Rapunzel bashing I’m sorry, I am a Cass and Varian stan and they did not do Movie Rapunzel justice in the show.

Basically, instead of being born with the healing powers of the Sundrop flower infused in her blonde hair, Rapunzel is born with the hurtful powers of the Moonstone opal infused in her black hair, and a whole slew of things happened because of it.

Right now, we’re going to focus on how the Moonstone affected her personality/interests. We’ll focus on the lore, implications and the other stuff of this AU later (if this gets enough notes, maybe 100).

Rapunzel has black hair instead of blonde, and when she sings the hurting incantation it turns silver. Her skin is more paler and not as warm in the show, and her eyes are a darker shade of green. But her hair is more pitch-black then like Cass’s dull black-gray hair, and her eyes are not dull like hers either, instead they’re more of a dark-forest-in-the-dead-of-night green (I compare her with Cass for a reason, Will be explained in another post. Let’s just say this AU historians would call them the best of friends, practically like sisters 🤨)

She wears more purplish-blue shades with hints of black and silver compared to her canon purple-pink orchid and yellow color scheme. Her clothes are more spacecore and night-sky themed.

She’s still mostly has her canon kind, helpful and benevolent personality, but she isn’t as immediately trusting and naive at first as she is in the show. She also has a bit of a more protective side to her when it comes to her friends and family, and she can also be very mischievous when she wants to. She also tends to have her sarcastic moods if she didn’t sleep well or doesn’t like what she’s forced to do as princess.

She also gets her negative, anxious bouts when she worries that she isn’t good enough princess or that she did something wrong to her friends and doesn’t know what. Unlike Canon Rapunzel, she actually worries about being a really bad person and sometimes just stays up at night try to figure out what she did wrong.

She loves the night sky, the moon, the stars. Remember how Canon Rapunzel cataloged and tracked the stars in her tower by painting them on the walls? She does that, but it’s worst. She loves painting murals of starry night skies, settings such as forests, fields, towns, bombfies, parties and more at night and portraits of her friends and family.

She is also very curious/adventurous and loved trying new things, leading her to a curiosity in science, magic and alchemy and her love of instruments, particularly the guitar and fiddle.

She also sings. That part hasn’t changed. But her songs are more like slow and soft melodies and lullabies rather than something to bounce and jump too. She still sometimes sings these energetic songs of course, but she’s reluctant to sing so confidently and can be found rather humming these rather then singing them.

She is also a big zodiac, astrology and tarot nerd. She isn’t one of those types to go out explaining someone’s personality from their zodiac sign, or put all her trust and base her decisions based on tarot readings and horoscopes. She just finds it all interesting and neat.

This AU really interests me. I’ve been hyper fixating on it al lot. Like I said before, if this gets a lot of notes then I might do a part two or a whole series. I surprisingly got a lot of this fleshed out.

Also yes maybe I saw the cover and summary of Liz Braswell’s What Once Was Mine and went—but what if I made it match up with the tts canon? I do actually have the book, but I haven’t read it yet (I will. Someday.)

    Hey every each and single one of you far-fetched and mind-blowing, talented artists and writers~ Listen I’m so sorry for not posting of  my sketching and my drawings because I had to re-doing my first chapter of my story and I was trying to make my story to be amazing and awesome just like the other writers creating and making their stories unique but I won’t give up because I am still determined and hardworking but anyway I’ve got graduate from yesterday~! Yay me! And also I am going to London, Paris, Rome on August 19th too! 😊😊😊 How’s cool is that? But anyway again, I am posting of my Dofus/Wakfu Oc known as Crown Princess Lolatos Tokones~ The crown princess and highborn monarch of “Territories of The Sânziana”~ And she is secretly love-interest of Prince Armand Sheran Sharm otherwise known as “weed-brain”, that is what Lolatos calls him when they met each other in their families’ royal meetings. Well I’m going explaining all of you artists and writers about her later because I’ve got to finishing other posts I’ve need to finish!
