So like one common theme when discussing bullying is the tendency for bullies to project their insecurities on their victims right? like them taking their own shit out on the people they bully?

so i know that may not be exaaaactly the case with Max Jagerman in Nerdy Prudes Must Die like the dude even in the afterlife just really fuckin likes terrorising the shit out of people due to his god complex BUUUUT what I found very interesting was when in the Nerdy Prudes Must Die sequence, he was telling Richie to repeat after him: "Who will pray for me when my body's gone or until another Richie comes along?" And mind you, this song comes directly after another musical sequence about all the teens in that high school being so fucking happy that Max was gone. And like, well yea you can't blame the kids for being happy that Top Terrorizer #1 is gone and that they don't have to abide by his social strata anymore - but then again, having nobody pray or give a fuck about Max after him being mysteriously missing for 2 weeks is,,kinda fucked up for Max no matter the kind of person he is. So, to see someone he victimised get the attention and appreciation I would assume Max would've wanted from his team especially after being missing for so long - it really does seem to me that he was projecting onto Richie when he was about to kill him and making him feel how little he will matter to other people when he dies - like what he could've felt after literally everyone considered the high school "objectively better" now that Max was gone.

Which makes things a whole lot more interesting when Max snaps out of his WHO WILL PRAY FOR YOU solo when Richie belts out I'M NOT A LOSER - henceforth defying the idea of worthlessness Max was projecting onto Richie. So damn.

I think the reason beckory works well is that tony has a habit of getting self righteous and in his own head about things but Gregory isnt afraid to tell him off or call him out about things. the point of tony in ggy is that nobody ever told him that how hes treating other people isnt good, so that's why he got so bad. but tony would be close to Gregory and have every rational reason in the world to listen to Gregory so when he would say something like "you're treating ellis badly and that's not what a good friend does, you need to do better" hed actually listen and take it into account and improve himself

was kinda thinking about this when I saw Renee Rapp live recently-- I didn't know her visual vibe, I'd heard a few songs here and there but I hadn't really *seen* her, and her attire at Osheaga was really casual, a jersey (baseball/basketball?) and slacks. And that was so amazing! I couldn't help thinking, the work Billie Eilish has done for how women in pop music are allowed to dress is incredible. Seeing her up there all comfortable you just know that Billie walked in her oversized tops so that Renee in her slacks could run; Billie walked through all the critcisms about how she dressed slobbily and having to assert that she didn't owe anyone a display of skin, so that Renee could be comfortable and unquestioned running up and down the catwalk in front of 10,000 people. How iconic.

And I don't think we even realised at the time how much something as simple as letting Billie dress the way she as a (then-) 17-year-old teenager dressed, could end up meaning for a future generation of women in music.

Obviously there is still way to go, there were weirdos complaining about how 'plain' Dua Lipa's Glastonbury outfit was this year (in 2024!!), l have to ask, are you at Paris Fashion Week?? She is the musical HEADLINER of an entire day of music at one of the biggest music festivals in the world, and you can't grant her the space to exist as an artist, you have to moan about her dress not being excitingly revealing enough. There's work to do, it's still dismal out there. But the space Billie Eilish has created for a most ordinarily-dressed woman popstar is still heartening.

What is the thing? What is the good thing?

What does the good thing represent?

Carm...this is a good thing.

Would a good thing represent Carmy hooking up with Claire specifically, or is it the feeling of being in love? Steven tries to reassure Carmy that this is a good thing. But Carmy profusely says he does not have the love of his life - even if that existed for Carmy, would he know love is good? Where did this notion come from where Carmy feels he doesn't deserve it and can't receive that good thing?

I want them to have this good thing.

This feeling of being unworthy of love or knowing that love is good comes from his mother. Donna says she loves them so much and does not know how to show it. She wants them to have this good thing, and The Bear displays it in the purest form - the food expresses that feeling. Instead of holding resentment and building a wall, the thing is loving someone freely. Love truly cares for a person's well-being and wants to make someone happy. The thing is doing what you love and being with who you love.

Baby this is the thing.

Syd says she is learning a lot from Carmy, "which is a good thing," in 2x02 Pasta, and Emmanuel asks if she trusts her partner. In 2x09, Emmanuel tells her she doesn't have to make everything a thing. But what is that thing? It's giving your all to someone who sometimes does not show that love. It's loving the culinary industry even when it doesn't show that same love for you. It's loving Carmy and trusting him in the relationship.

But Carmy is not ready to receive something that's good- he's too in his head and scared from all the love he tried to give others that was only thrown back in his face. He can't even hear the three words because it was used as an avoidance from actual conflict.

I love you. I fuckin' love you.

But he has yet to realize his behavior with Sydney it's a good thing. When they're in sync, they display the good thing, the communication, the trust, the making that person happy. Their love for each other is represented by the thing(the jacket). The *thing) Is a token of Carmy's love for Sydney. He wants Sydney to feel good doing what she loves. He has yet to know that that's the good thing - for him, at least, it's what enjoyment should feel like.

Got that thing I want to give you, actually.

The thing for Sydney? The feeling of being in love failed her- it wasn't there when she needed it most. But now she has to commit to it, despite her fears, and she has to put all that she has into the thing, into Carmy.

It seems hopeless- the thing between Sydney and Carmy, but I' 'll trust the lyrics that play at the end of season 2.
