friends i love crocheting so much . why does it hurt me so
#did i marathon another doily? yes.#did that make my index finger not fit for crocheting for the next few days because the thread basically caused ropeburn lite? yes.#did i learn from this experience? no#will i avoid repeating this mistake in the future? also no. i did the same exact thing for the 4th time. this one was smaller tho#i like making doilies best because the patterns are so easy to follow and i get to learn many interesting stitches#bigger things like blankets and pillowcases are fun too but not engaging enough. they're good to make when watching a movie#but i usually don't have enough yarn on me to make something big#+ it's really difficult for me to pick colors for the patterns and solid color is just so boring and bland. when i was making that bag for#ori it took me longer to figure out the color scheme than to actually make it.#i fucking hate making plushies. made 2 of the same squid (fun and cute) but making any other plushie is agony#i had SO many attempts at the manta ray. grr wrr grr. i'm not even going to try making anything else until i forget why i hate making them#crochet#whispers

#I'll take good care of her~#*ahem*#the stuff in caps is from me earlier when i first had the idea#she wanted that to be the text but didnt think i might want to.. talk about the drawing process. thats why this awkward transition is here#anyway.. when drawing characters simply i like to draw them like little miis or perhaps teru teru bōzu#thats why her skirt is longer and why she doesnt have arms#also.. i dont use colored pencils often. and while i do have quite a few this is the closest i could get to the Bocchi the Hot! Pink#(or should it be Bocchi the Hot Pink! ?)#anyway.. i also only wanted to use the Bocchi the Hot! I'm going to a DCI show tomorrow for marching band bc we do an annual field trip for it, and there was this shirt i wanted from last year's performance that I never managed to get ahold of and now that it's been a year since the tour it's been marked down to $10 :3
I am very happy
#the shirt saga was interesting#basically i didn't have time to buy it from the tent while we were there and then by the time i checked the website it was sold out#but then it got restocked#and i asked for it for christmas#and my dad commented on it bc i dont ask for shirts so i figured id get it#but no#do then i figured birthday since its a few months later#also no#and then i stopped checking#but its marked down now!!!#im gonna buy it#i told myself (and my mom) that id get ahold of it one way or another#and i will succeed#if anyone is wondering which one its the 2023 wyoming troopers lasso the sun tour one#bc that was my personal favorite performance that i got to see#i am not from wyoming#but it was awesome and i think they deserved to win more that the band that did bc they made significantly less mistakes and#had a more cohesive theme#bonus points it reminded me of hnoc by the mechs#bc sun imagery and wild west theme#if you want to watch a version its on youtube on the 2023 troopers drum and bugle corps debut at 1:15:55#although the colorguard has a few mistakes on that video#but the one i saw was *chefs kiss*#potat rambles#marching band#band#potat's band chronicles

when I was a kid I was rlly upset that art teachers didn’t like anime-inspired art, and then I realized it wasn’t the anime aspect. jumping into highly stylized art without knowing the fundamentals AND with a refusal to learn them is a bad combo
#I’m noticing now that a lot of artists don’t do professional critiques anymore#I think it’s a reaction to how people treat beginner artists#and a lot of ppl don’t know that u can draw for like a decade and still be a beginner artist#ppl are cruel#those cringe videos where ppl just took ppls ocs and harrassed n bullied them were so fucked up#that doesn’t mean that artist should be untouchable#I remember the great Miguel gender end debate#where they took miggy from being a tall brown man with heavy wrinkles full lips a defined nose and head shape#and made him a lightly tanned skinny white girl#most genderbends are boring to me for that reason#ppl got mad#some more than others and a bunch of professional artists defended the ppl who did all the whitewashing n shit#but nary a word when artist of colour BLACKz IM TALKING ABT BLACK ARTISTS#get harrassed en masse. or ppl watching spiderverse tryna draw POC for the first time#and uh. drawing them badly. and it’s one thing if it’s a beginner or a kid and a few features are wrong#proportions are hard. that’s not the problem. there’s a difference between a mistake and a choice#someone being able to draw amazing pieces but choosing to white wash choosing to make fat characters thin#we know the difference. or god when nb artists tried tell black ppl how our skin works#but yeah. my little brother turned 17 today :( most of the time i dont think about all of my siblings ages and whatnot cause usually none of it is relevant but god. i remember when i used to make that guy blueberry oatmeal and feed it to him in his high chair when he was a toddler and ur telling me hes just seventeen all of a sudden?? that shit is fucking wild.
#ive spent the day so far going 'you cant be 17 cause i was literally JUST 17' (i turn 21 in a few months i was not 'just' 17)#also i think my perception of my sibs is like. to me you are eternally ten years old and to me i will always remember middle school you best#and do you remember when you turned 15 and started high school and you were so scared because i do#ive watched you grow up and ive watched you develop a personality and ive watched you achieve so many cool things#ive been here for all your most fucking insufferable years and i love you both despite them and because of them#and i hate you sometimes but also i cant imagine who i would be without you because youre so important to me and i care about you#ive been a stand-in parent more times than i think we all realize and ive made so many mistakes and bad choices and yet#we're all still here and everything is okay#idk. being the oldest and watching your siblings grow up is fucking insane. its so wild and just gets more so every year#i think i said something similar when my sister turned 18 cause that was also crazy#but yeah. they are both so old now#anyway happy birthday to my stupid ass brother#he's great#aiilov-personal

Well, I decided to give myself another project to jump between while I finish up Striped Sweater, so I started on Color Stranded Sweater. I got through 3 inches of ribbing and the first line of solid color for the back, started on the colorwork...and discovered that despite counting multiple times, using stitch markers to keep track, and counting again...I still miscounted and was 20 stitches short.
Because of course I was. So I got to unravel the whole back part I'd gotten done (about 5 inches by 30 inches worth of knitting). That was yesterday afternoon. I set my knitting aside for the rest of the day, and I'm sitting down to cast on this sweater again this morning.
I do want to get the other sweater finished, but I'm so excited to start the colorwork on this one, and since I hate long stretches of flat ribbing I can switch between the striped sweater and the new one to give myself a break from it.
I'm just so frustrated and disappointed that I managed to miscount like that. I usually count in groups of 20s for pieces this long, and I guess I managed to miss one group this time. To be fair, I likely have dyscalculia so numbers are not my friend on a good day. But that's why I check my counts multiple times...and I still messed up this time. It happens. That doesn't make it any less frustrating, though.
All I can do now is cast on again, and maybe ask someone else to check my count so I don't have to undo a bunch of work again.
