Love the fuckin episode of Odd Squad where Tiny Scanavino and Olympia switch to night shift and nothing gets done on night shift and the Mr. O on night shift is so wholesome and sleepy and it’s so chaotic I love it cause it sums up all the night shift’s I’ve been on lol. But I still can’t believe Olympia grew up and is on XO Kitty I shit myself when I recognized her I was like “OLYMPIA GREW UP?” Huhuhuhu I love the Odd Squad kiddos they’re so iconic the script is just gold and the kids acting is so so good I adore them and now I’m sad that the show now, from the last time I saw it has the kids from the mobile unit expect for Orla and they are grown up more. I just loved how wholesome the show was and how funny it was
#I have to say my fav season is the mobile unit#even tho ms. o works for someone else? and she grew up a bit she was still there#and I love orla’s characters#odd squad

4. Long before Caesar and Brutus were lessons, they were friends. // They played with stick swords in their kingdom of trees // and dressed up in crowns of flowers // and painted mud on each other's faces. // The pair was often found walking down dirt roads, // Caesar stomping proud and tall, // and Brutus- step by step- placing his feet into the footprints left behind. // Caesar grew into a strong Roman man. // Brutus grew into Caesar's shoes. // They walked to a wishing well and they threw in their weapons // and Caesar whispered a prophecy: // "We live and die together." // The day before the slaughter, Brutus took pause. // He turned to Caesar and thought // "I'll love you twice as hard today to make up // for tomorrow," // and they stayed up and played cards on the kitchen floor. // It wasn't until the next morning that Brutus realized how cold the tile was. // Life and death are not mutually exclusive. // When Caesar died, so did Brutus, in the sense that he never really lived again. // In the present, when someone mentions one of them, // they seldom exclude mention of the other.

Orla's Non-Bat Comic Recs.
Hello folks, in light of the 'all published comics are BAD' wave that has been swept everywhere recently I would like to share a collection of comics that are good actually and are generally isolated (you don't need a spreadsheet to read them).
1.) Impulse (1995)
Why: This is about a neurodiverse coded teenage refugee from the future who cannot live with his blood family in the 20th century due to circumstances that are beyond his control. It is about learning to adapt to a world that doesn't make sense, and learning to love it too. As time goes on Bart learns how to love and he discovers who he is and what is important to him really. All the while some of the most chaotic things happen that you may ever see in a comic (Bart tricks the whole school into getting into a brawl and drives a car off a cliff). Primary themes: Found family (for real), loss, immigration coding, neurodiversity, foster homes, friendship, self discovery, school. Trigger warnings: child abuse, ableism, ptsd, gangs and gun violence (a shocking amount) mental illness. Available in Trade Paperback: Partially. Reckless Youth - collects Bart's first appearances from The Flash plus issues #1-#6 in Impulse. Flash/Impulse: Runs in the Family - collects Impulse #1-#12 plus supplementary issues from The Flash. Mercury Falling - Collects the entire Mercury Falling arc.
2.) Jack Kirby's New Gods (1971)
Why: This is the epic that started it all with Darkseid as he scours the earth in search of the Anti-Life Equation. It is about many deep layers of history involving the New Gods, the divide between New Genesis and Apokolips. In desperation to stop an endless war Darkseid and Highfather of New Genesis agree to a pact - to trade sons and in return a long period of truce and a ceasefire would pass between worlds. Highfather agreed, trading his son for Darkseid's whom he raised with love on New Genesis. Orion, years later, is a god of war and he fights for New Genesis and he fights for Earth, undogged he persists in vanquishing Darkseid's evil wherever it dwells. But Orion has a secret, and deep shame, for he experiences anger and wrath like no other on New Genesis but there is deep compassion and love that tempers it. As Orion fights for Earth he uncovers many secrets about himself, and at his side is his 'friend' Lightray who knows the darkness in him but never turns away. Primary themes: war, anger, ptsd, secrets, space opera, family, anti-war, malice, self discovery Trigger warnings: ptsd, this was written in the 70s but was pretty liberal for its time, still has some awkward moments that are slightly sexist and racist (mostly with names of black characters Vykin the Black and Black Racer which some people are uncomfortable with). Available in Trade Paperback: Complete. 1 book. Jack Kirby's New Gods - Collects all issues of Jack's 1971 series plus Even Gods Must Die and The Hunger Dogs. NOTE: Jack Kirby's entire Fourth World epic with Mr. Miracle and The Forever People is also highly recommended and is part of the New Gods tale. All 3 series has been complied into one massive trade called Jack Kirby's Fourth World, and all are available individually as well. Either way you might be able to find these at your library, or on Hooplah.
3.) Orion by Walter Simonson
Why: Decades after Jack Kirby wrote his final chapter for New Gods Orion finally gets his solo where he faces his father on Apokolips and steps up as its ruler. Now the leader of Apokolips Orion begins the arduous task of cleansing it of its malice and cruelty, a feat that is not easy and even more so when he does it without aid. With sinister deception at every turn Orion struggles and finds himself being tempted to use the very force that he was sworn to protect everyone from; the very anti-life equation itself. Primary themes; deceit, temptation, rebirth, life and death, redemption, mercy, compassion, love, forgiveness. Trigger warnings: torture, sexual assault implications. Available in Trade Paperback - Complete. 2 books.
4.) Barda by Ngozi Ukazu (NEW!!)
Why: This is a graphic novel and is a retelling of Barda as she comes to understand love and what she really wants from her life all while navigating the cruelty of Apokolips. Primary themes: love, cruelty, malice, torture, imprisonment, hope Trigger Warnings: torture, execution. Single complete graphic novel.
5.) Superman: The Harvests of Youth by Sina Grace
Why: This is a heartbreaking coming of age story about Clark Kent as a teenager in Smallville as he finds his place among his friends, family and himself as an alien during a time of death and hatred. It is a young Superman story that is incredibly relevant today in an age of internet toxicity and leaves you feeling hopeful. This blends some elements from Smallville (the show) but tweaks them to make this its own unique bubble world that feels believable and fresh. Primary Themes: toxic masculinity, incels, bullying, suicide, capitalism, teenage coming of age, teenage romance, high school Single complete graphic novel
6.) Superman Smashes The Klan by Gene Luen Yang
Why: In the 1940s the Superman Radio Show released the story "Clan of the Fiery Cross" that told a terrifying story about the KKK targeting a Chinese-American family that moved from Chinatown into Metropolis white-dominated suburbs following WWII. This is a graphic novel that is based on the same story. Primary Themes: racism, identity issues, internalized racism, police brutality. Single complete graphic novel, and also has 3 separate novels.
7.) Bad Dream: A Dreamer Story by Nicole Maines (New!!)
Why: This is Nia Nal's solo and origin story that has been confirmed to take place in the main verse for the current comics. Nia was born and raised in a small heavily isolated Sanctuary where aliens live safely. Even among dozens of alien species Nia is still seen as different as she is the only person who is trans. To complicate everything even more, Nia inherits her people's precognitive powers when her sister Maeve was raised her entire life to accept the powers into her. Terrified of her new powers and destroying her family by revealing them she inherited them instead of her sister, she flees from her hometown to Metropolis where she for the first time in her life meets other queer people. But there is a threat to her family on the horizon, and in order to protect them she must go back and face her fears. Primary Themes: transphobia, self discovery, xenophobia, acceptance, fearfulness, family, secrets, deceit. Trigger Warnings: see above, also internalized queerphobia. Single Complete Graphic Novel
8.) Static: Season One
Why: This is a modern retelling of Milestone Comic's Static as bullied nerd Virgil Hawkins comes into his powers at a protest when police discharge an experimental tear gas. The gas leaves many of his classmates dead, but some like him gain amazing powers - unfortunately some other people, like his bullies, also gain powers. Caught between law enforcement, capitalism, and the complexities of being a new teenage superhero Virgil works to uplift his community and stay strong within his nerdy friend group. This series is heavily based on the Static Shock TV show so fans of that show will be delighted with familiar faces, and names. And yes, Richie Foley is gay. Primary Themes: racism, police brutality, bullying, anger, frustration, dehumanization. Trigger Warnings: See above Available in Trade Paperback - Complete in Static: Season One which collects all six issues. Note: We also have its sequel Static: Shadows of Dakota out as well.
9.) Superman: American Alien
Why: This is a collection of short stories about Clark at varying stages of his life that range from funny to incredibly heartfelt. Primary Themes: finding ones self, self discovery, compassion Trigger warnings: I cannot think of one Available in Trade Paperback - Complete as Superman: American Alien which collects all 7 stories.
10.) Legion of Super-Heroes: Post-Zero Hour Reboot
Why: In the 30th century R.J. Brande Industries creates the Star Gate System, finally connecting the galaxy closer than it ever had before. Travel that once took months or years to complete now could only take hours and with it came the United Planets with Earth as its home headquarters. In an effort to promote the United Planets and unify the galaxy, the Legion of Super-Heroes was formed by Brande as a peacekeeping unit and an inspiration to cooperation. Sadly, it was co-opted by political parties and turned into a draft for talented teenagers to serve, or risk their planet's enrollment in the U.P. Over the course of over 200 issues teenage super heroes are given unfathomable responsibility and power while unifying to protect their galaxy and friendships while combating xenophobia and political corruption. This series is everything people wanted TTv3 to be but never got. Primary Themes: Dehumanization, loss of autonomy, death, life, space, technology, capitalism, political corruption, manipulation, deceit, hope, romance, found family Trigger Warnings: See above plus ableism and teenage pregnancy. Available in Trade Paperback: Partially. We have 2 volumes called Legionnaires which collect approximately 20 issues, plus extra content, of this run. We also have various other trade collections such as Legion Lost in its entirety.
11.) Ascender and Descender by Jeff Lemire and Dustin Nguyen
Why: Tired of superheroes? These are two separate series that follow the same story about a young companion robot named Tim who was assigned to be his human brother's best friend and companion. Unfortunately, during a mining accident his entire colony had to flee and leave him behind as they attempted to escape toxic gas. 10 years have gone by since then, and a lot has changed in the world since he was shut down. Mostly being 95% of all robots have been destroyed and are targeted for destruction after a mysterious robotic alien force attacked all sentient worlds and obliterated the populations down to catastrophic levels. All Tim wants to do is find his brother Andy, but what has become of Andy in 10 years, and what will happen to him in 10 more years after they reunite? This story takes place over 20 years as Tim and Andy both grow and change, as they face the challenges before them and unravel the mystery of the Artificial Intelligence that swore to destroy all organic life. Oh, and magic is also involved too. Primary themes: hatred, violence, abuse, xenophobia, forgiveness, found family, brothers, dehumanization, life, death, magic, balance, manipulation, deceit, mysteries, will probably remind you of Mass Effect. Trigger Warnings: see above Available in Trade Paperback: the entire series is available across multiple books.
That's all I have for now folks, I'm tired of writing.

Question: I was wondering what you guys miss the most about playing Sam and Dean?
[Jared tries to imitate the fan's English accent]
Jensen: That's Australian!
Jared: I'm trying to do it so she understands. Orla, love, so - just kidding. I'm terrible with accents, everybody knows.
Jensen: No, keep going, this is, this is brilliant.
Jared: It's not. Brilliant! What's the thing we miss the most about playing the characters, or the show? Uhhh -
Jensen [immediately]: Working with this guy every day.
Jared: Yeah, yeah.
Jensen: Easy, easy, I mean it's like, literally, you know, when you - because we've really, we've done some projects prior to it? But we'd never really dug in to anything at that capacity, to that capacity. And you know, he and I effectively learned so much and grew so much, not just as individuals and men but as actors and as characters. And when you do that with the same person over and over, day in and day out, you develop, just a, there's a -
Jared: There's a cohesion -
Jensen: cohesion, synch-, synchro-
Jared: Synchronicity?
Jensen: Synchronicity. There's a synchronicity to it that is rare in this industry.
Jared: Yeah, and furthermore in this industry, A, yes, what he said. But or and B, yes and, not no but. So and, especially -
Jensen: I dunno. Sharon, is that right? You're, that's not right. That's a part of the - yeah, you just failed, your mom's here.
Jared: [laughs] The English teacher. But I think especially in the career paths that we have had, always in the public eye? You can be really concerned, whether you realize it or not - what you're doing, how you're perceived? Sam and Dean got to do everything. Good and bad. Public and private. And so it's - like we were asked earlier about writing memoirs? And I was like, well, my memoir would be about, like, exploring - some people get it from books, reading, through travel, through food, through friendships. But I feel like Jared got to explore a lot through Sam and commit to it, and again, with Jensen and Dean right beside me. And Misha and right the whole gang, it's like I got to commit to something that I would never do, hopefully. I'll never be Lucifer, so far as I know, I'll never start the apocalypse, I hope not, no promises yet. But I got to do it, around people I trusted and loved. I got to ironically, in playing a character, I got to explore humanity. Around people that I loved and trusted, that would treat me the same left, right, and center. And so I was able to experience a lot of lives in those fifteen years.
Jensen: I can honestly say this, to this day, I have never laughed as much as I did on the set of Supernatural. And I still have a lot of fun on The Boys set, and on Big Sky, and on Tracker, on all the other things that I've done, on Walker. Still lots of laughs, lots of fun, loved the hell out of it. But I have never laughed to tears the way that I used to with this idiot next to me. [Jared enthusiastically raises his hand] So that's probably what I miss the most.
Jared: Truth.

so I dunno how much sense this makes but Derry girls season 01 ends so perfectly and says so much with just the way they place the scenes and communicate w cinematography and chronology of the scenes? like there's one moment where you're feeling fond and gooey on the inside as the girls dance on the stage with Orla at the talent show (so that people don't laugh at her alone) and suddenly it transitions into a scene wherein erin and orla's family are watching the news about the conflict and how there was a sudden move and now people are dead and it's tragic and people are mourning and then right back to the girls laughing and holding each other and giggling on the stage
and the way I went from smiling and laughing at my screen to tears down my face is insane because this show is so good at making you care about them as characters with lives and personalities who are placed in the middle of a conflict while they still act and go along with their days as people because there's nothing more for them to do,,, it also suddenly makes you come to your senses in the way you've come to love and adore the characters and the way you relate to the world as a whole,, tying it all up in a pretty bow as a season finale
when I say that it makes you aware of the way you relate to the world,, what I meant by that was,,, that we become aware of the girls and the adults as two separate entities and two separate ways of us understanding the world,,, it's in the indication that you're supposed to be a (Derry) girl (a frame of mind) and live your life to the fullest and take care of the people you love and adore and laugh and enjoy what you have, and go about your day and,,, in the way you're supposed to be a (Derry) adult who exists with and outside of their immediate surroundings and cares about more than what's happening to them and is aware of what is happening outside (which is esp relevant when we talk about the times we live in with so many active conflicts everywhere and the way we deal w and relate to them)
this is not to say that a (Derry) adult or a (Derry) girl is limited to that kind of existence,,, just that, this is the way I understand what these particular frames placed in this way together communicate (to me)
#derry girls#orla mccool#erin quinn#clare devlin#clare derry girls#michelle mallon#james maguire#derry adults#i just finished season 1#and im overwhelmed by how much i adore this#which might make me prone to reading too much into it#but this is what i think

was orla not actually a good sister to the mc when they were little before the mc flipped out at the table..like did i make up her being loving for a little bit… nobody ever has anything good to say about her was i just charmed by her or something. i kinda like that wench
It mostly that people don’t like her because of what the characters have said but she actually was a loving sister before Crowny hit her. If you read back that flashback in episode 3 she’s being nice and what gets her hit is that she’s trying to calm Crowny down

What I love the most about Derry Girls is that every single character is borderline INSANE, and no one cares.
Breaking an important statue and glueing it back with its head upside down? Very normal, Orla. We love you.
Borrowing tranquilizer guns to fend off polar bears? CLASS.
Sneaking off to a concert in a random lady's van, squabbling with the 'travellers', and then leaving James behind with them? This is exactly what we're here for.
And also, the fact that James is, was and has always been referred to as one the 'girls'. The Derry Girls.

ACOTAR OCs*: Canon Characters
*While this is a part of my ACOTAR OC series, these are technically minor characters in canon. What I've included here are head canons I've developed in fanfics they're featured in where they are more of a presence than is seen in canon. All art displayed was created by the Crowesn Tiefling Maker Picrew.
Nuan: Master Tinkerer and Emissary to the Dawn Court, Nuan is well known for her creative inventions, specifically when it comes to replacing body parts. Nuan has studied the human form from many lenses: artist, healer, and engineer. Outside of tinkering, she enjoys her friendships with others the most, collecting interesting people from the different courts, including Lucien Vanserra and Alexius (male OC; See Autumn Partners).
Orla the Lady of Autumn: Lady, wife, mother: this has been Orla's life for centuries. From a strong-line of fire wielders, since she was a young girl, she knew she was promised to the High Lord. In her early days, she was able to explore, visiting different courts to learn to be a lady. That is where she met her best friend Eleni (see Day Court) and the male who would define the rest of her life, Helion. But Beron is unstoppable and possessive, and Orla would sacrifice her happiness if it meant she could protect her children (see Vanserra Brothers).
Jesminda (deceased): Jesminda's faerie race knows the forest better than the High Fae that since in their House built in the trees. Where the High Fae control fire, bringer of death, Jesminda's race know that death is only an illusion of spirit. A powerful shaman herself, when Jesminda falls for Lucien Vanserra, she knows that her very life may be at risk. And when the executioner's ax comes down on her, she only needs to say a few words to make sure the veil between the living and the dead is thin.
Cyrus Archeron (deceased): All headcanons, including his name, belong to the magnificent @crazy-ache . You can read about her depictions of Cryus Archeron, father to the Archeron Sisters and the Prince of Merchants, in several of her fics but especially in eternal bloom and ACOWAR (Elucien's version). I love his depiction so much, I've adopted him into my own fanfics as apart of the crazykindoflove extended universe.
Cyrus is a complicated man, energetic, quick-witted, and innovative in his approach to relationships and business. He prides himself in his ability to do so when he can't anymore, his humiliation and depression pull him to his worst self, paralyzed and incapable. When he finally has a chance again, he makes it his mission to become the Prince of Merchants and do right by his girls, even if its the last thing he ever does.
Read fanfictions featuring these characters on my Masterlist
Other OC Lists: Vanserra Brothers | Autumn Partners | Day Court | The Continent

what you said about amvs definitely makes sense and I have thought the same thing!! There's a certain kind of literacy required to "read" them. I have a lot of vids that I want to show to a friend when we finish our 3+ year watch but I feel like they aren't going to hit as hard because a more casual fan isn't going to have the same level of familiarity with the text. Like sure, they should be able to understand the overall emotional beats and obvious visual gags but they are going to miss a lot. Like they will see a three second shot of Dean and Cas in a car and be like "okay they're in a car together, that happens a lot in the series" whereas I will look at it and immediately clock "okay that's when Dean says Cas is like a brother to them" and understand why that particular choice is both a hilarious joke and an illuminating meta point when paired with that particular lyric. And I can't even blame them for not getting it, there's over 300 episodes, I'M the weirdo here.
EXACTLY EXACTLYYYYY. like I think specifically what made me think about this was in orla's video when it shows the shot of dean in playthings after the "overcompensating" comment and like i'm not sure if a casual fan would immediately pick up on that since it's just showing dean smiling kind of sadly, but weeee knowww. and that it's played with the line "making love to a counterfeit" because that's dean's whole deal!!! like we have talked a lot at least in this corner of the fandom about how dean wears this mask to show a caricature of himself out of survival skills, and also how on a meta level chuck/the writers keep forcing him to wear that mask even after 15 years because that persona is more palatable to television. so while dean on a plot level is stilted in this angry personality even after the mark of cain storyline ends, it makes sense when you read it as a resentment of how his own character is being written. and the song "movies" really helps to highlight that, but i'm not sure if a casual fan would see it that way! which, like you said, i'm not blaming them for, but for me it's like getting rewarded for being a little weirdo
#and a lot of amvs are like that not just this one video#this is just the one that was making me think of it :)#i've actually kinda talked about a similar thing with au fan fiction (and why it doesn't always work as original adaptations...)#since characters serve as archetypes that fans of the text/other aus already know#so you don't have to do as much work character/relationship building#different literacies!#that's exactly the word thank you

Rewatching the first few episodes of Pokemon Horizons knowing what happens later on is so great.
Seeing Liko so nervous around these people who end up becoming so important to her to the point of her deciding to stay with them instead of going home and doing a class presentation on Friede and Cap's partnership and how she admires them. And the RVTs end up caring about her so much too from Mollie having a heart to heart with her about her old profession and later hugging Liko after she finds out she's okay when she gets out of the cave, Murdock taking Liko to get ice cream as a thank you for all she's done for Dot and all of them agreeing to help her and Roy discover the secrets of Lucius.
And seeing Sprigatito being unable to use leafage and then using it for the first time against Amethio while KNOWING why Sprigatito wasn't able to use leafage before is such an amazing moment.
Seeing Quaxly run into Dot's room because it was scared of the storm was so sweet because I'm certain Dot is watching what's going on outside through her window and listening in through the calls with a rather terrified Quaxly on her lap and the other references to Dot's existence when Murdock reminds Friede there's kids (plural) on board now and asks Ludlow to look after "you know who" for him. You know while everyone was out looking for Sprigatito, she was definitely tasked with looking around online for sightings or just any places the explorers could potentially hide out in
Then seeing the flag fly off the airship knowing Roy is going to find it and that it'll inspire him so much that he's even shown with it during the Halo opening in the scene showing how much he's changed and improved as a trainer and a person since he joined the group. Also at the end of episode three we see Roy practice throwing a stone like it's a pokeball knowing he'll end up catching two Pokemon not too long after and will use those skills he's practiced to help Liko and Sprigatito out of trouble and to save Wattrel from falling into the water.
And seeing Fuecoco unable to use a fire type move when it wants to help Orla in the engine room knowing it'll learn multiple fire type moves after becoming partners with Roy.
I just love how many things tie back to the first three episodes and how much all the characters grow from when we first meet them or get a reference to them in those episodes.
