Nobody cares about this but I decided to look at my Latin textbook to determine what Optimus Prime would essentially mean in Latin

Note that I’m only in my first semester of Latin, so this could very well be inaccurate. Also some of what I’m looking at is stuff that we haven’t covered yet and I’m just gleaning from skimming the chapter

Okay so for starters, the name itself doesn’t really work because both “optimus” and “primus” (which seems to be the closest to the word prime since it isn’t one in Latin), are both adjectives, which means they have no specific gender since there is no noun they’re paired to. Though “Optimus” is the masculine form of the word, so I guess you could say it’s masculine

But going onto meanings, by direct translation, it just means “best first”, which doesn’t mean anything. You could switch around the translation words, but you still wouldn’t get anything

Also just to add on because I want to share more knowledge, “optimus” seems to be a superlative, specifically of “bonus”, which means “good”, hence “best”. Meanwhile “primus” is an ordinal number, with the cardinal being “unus”, aka “one”

Though I suppose if we were to try and make it work, let’s just say “Prime” is more like a proper name instead of “primus”, since that is a thing. So it would then mean Optimus’s name basically means “best Prime”. A bit on the nose but I guess it isn’t untrue?

I would now like to add on some of the other Primes, since a couple of them also have Latin word names. Though it’s really only Prima, Solus and Quintus, everyone else is either Greek or something made up like Megatronus

So Prima Prime would be “first Prime”, which makes sense, since that’s what he is. Though notably he has the feminine declension for some reason, even though adjectives always follow their noun’s declension, which with Optimus’ name being the basis, would be masculine. So more accurately his name should be Primus Prime. But I know it’s different because Primus is already the name of their creator god, so eh. Still a funny name though

Then moving on to Solus Prime, I found this out a while ago (as it is part of UNUS NAUTA), but apparently it would mean “only Prime”. Which technically isn’t true, but from what I understand, in her original continuity she was the only female Prime, so it works in that regard. But I also find it somewhat ironic that she has the masculine declension, while Prima, a male Prime, has the feminine. I mean there are masculine nouns that follow feminine declension, but still

And then there’s Quintus Prime, who’s just “fifth Prime”. Yet despite this, he is not the fifth Prime in TF One’s continuity, he is the 11th while Solus is 5th. You had one job writers, it’s in the name

But yeah, my observations. Now I kind of want to find a Latin noun that could properly replace “Prime” in the name for proper declension, but I don’t know what to fittingly replace it with. Primus just means “first”

Oh also, while I’m here, Orion Pax has at least some Latin in it. Orion is Greek and it’s probably because of the constellation, but there seems to be a similar, possibly related word in Latin called “orior”, which can mean to arise/originate/begin, which is very fitting of him. And “pax” meanwhile means peace. How well the two words fit together grammatically, I don’t know since I don’t think my book covers “orior”. But the two parts are very befitting of Orion Pax/Optimus Prime, wouldn’t you say?

yk what would be really sad? that if when jason first came back around the manor, and like actually interacting with the other wayne’s, for the first few weeks, when someone calls out jason’s name both jason and tim would respond. not because tim was trying to take the older boys place but because tim was just so used to everyone calling him by the dead boys name by accident so often it becomes second nature to him to respond to it.

Read Right to Left (Manga Format)

I have returned to watching demon slayer after a year and it came up while I was having a serious late night talk with my big sister. I was talking about the relationship between Michikatsu/Kokushibo and Yoriichi and it turns out we both see each other in Yoriichi's shoes and ourselves in Michikatsu's place. Definitely surprising, but really relieving to know that we both worry too much and we are not so far apart in skill as we believe.

This is technically the first piece of fanart I've ever made for the characters in Demon Slayer, I have made OCs before but I never drew an actual character from the story. For context this is mostly just a fun "what if" scenario with them meeting in the afterlife. I like to think Yoriichi's love would reawaken Michikatsu's humanity.
