Here’s a brain scratcher aniki, besides Kiryu and Kazuma-San what kind of parent would each of the main cast be. (Just the major players from the games IE protags and antags. You can include Ichiban’s party to!)

let's see...

Majima: good! but irresponsible parent. would spoil immensely, compensates for things he can't do or messes up. very open to whatever the kid wants/thinks but can be unintentionally harsh when scolding. promotes living to the fullest but will worry to the expense of his health when he can't be around to take care of things. will be overbearing with good intentions but suffocating.

Saejima: very nurturing and attentive but tough, a bit overbearing on the life lessons and shit like that. would leave a child to their own devices often to encourage individual growth and accepts failures well, very patient. would be hard to get a read on though normally, leaving a kid to guessing how he's feeling/doing, making his parenting feel a bit lonesome.

Nishiki: great with kids in a cool uncle sort of way. would be friends with his kids vs being their actual parent as he worries a lil too much about what they think of him. spoils them a lot, especially if it makes him look pretty great in front of others. doesn't handle problems very well and has only the basics of advice for a struggling child - would have to ask others what to do.

Ichiban: good parent but bumbling. would try his best to be a good dad but realistically good vibes and idealism isn't always enough. would rely on others for help with kids, especially if it's something he can't provide himself. would teach them to be kind and open minded, careful to not be too strict. would prolly relate the most to kids, being a child at heart himself though his personality would make it seem like he's not taking things seriously.

Ryuji: would raise a kid to be just like himself, brutish and confident. the type to be like, let's go to the junkyard and smash car windows for fun. values traits that align with his own like strength and a strong will - would be disappointed in anything he'd deem too whimsical. would think it's funny if his kid rebelled against them and teach them the hard way that it wouldn't fly but also encourage them to keep trying to be their own person anyway.

Daigo: would be a good parent to the best of his ability, compensating for his own experiences (Dojima lol). very patient and a good listener, excels at consoling to where his kid would feel very comfy telling him anything. can be a bit too soft and unintentionally ignorant to underlying problems a child might have. a child might feel guilty towards him for his kindness and oppositely *not* want to dump their worries on him. sometimes plays too much a teacher than a parent.

Mine: no lmao actual answer: he'd suck ass. he'd be a tiger parent, strict and cold. growing up is about accomplishment and being self sufficient. if a kid wants his time, better schedule an appointment. would teach a kid the harsh realities of life whilst ignoring the good stuff to temper expectations. punishments are often harsh. doesn't really relate to his kid other than they both breathe and blink.

Akiyama: do I even gotta say it ksdlagjlds he would be *squint* alright at parenting in the same way it's alright to drink bleach. he's there and he exists but is irresponsible. can't be counted on to make important dates on time or remember things a kid needs. frequently has to ask for help (Hana). will 100% give a child secondhand smoke and be skeazy about the types of life lessons he'd not necessarily teach outright but would imply with his behavior.

Tanimura: I don't got much of a read on him tbh but being that he's got a gambling problem, I feel like that would have some play in childcare lol, that being he's prolly a bit inattentive until it comes to money. he's a bit skeavy so he would prolly turn a blind eye to his kid doing something wrong and enforces rules poorly. would at least instill good teachings to help others, tho how, would be sketchy.

Shinada: he'd do pretty well I think if he had a stable living situation. he's very passionate about his interests and would share that with his kid, and if the kid wants to do their own thing, he'd encourage following that too. being goofy, he'd be a fun dad. I'm prolly the only motherfucker on earth who ships him with Milky-chan so I think they'd do really well as parents who come from rough lives trying to make a better one for their kid.

Sagawa: including him cuz he's my fav villain. he defo seems the type to have a kid somewhere with an estranged partner who left him first. he's caring, in a sinister type of way, one that makes you feel like you're being manipulated but not sure enough to say. "he knows what's best" and would for sure turn a child against his partner. in an alternate sense, he could also lead a double life, being an actual decent person to his family but a dickhead on the side. very psychopathic.

I mean, poor Chibiusa never stood a chance, her name is "Usagi but small." her entire life is wrapped up in having to literally escape from the time period in which she's living in order to...go back and help her mother, again. ANy time Chibs opposes Usagi in a major way she is a literal villain. Poor girl. It's wild. If I had ever really gotten into Chibs, I would have loved to tap into what it's like to be trapped as a child for 900 years because your mother loves the idea of everyone being trapped in amber and honestly is probably subconsiously controlling it IF YOU ASK ME. (The whole not aging in Crystal Tokyo once they hit 21 or whatever it is has always been especially horrifying to me.)

BUT FAREEHA. It wasn't supposed to be this way, initially. The story was supposed to be ABOUT her. I mean, Angela and Lena and Hana and Genji and McCree/Cole, but for sure also Fareeha. It was actually really interesting, when we had the possibility that all of them had completely different perspectives on Overwatch.

When we were even introduced to Ana, we were presented with the idea that Fareeha maybe even had a lonely childhood, because as much as she got to see The Old Guard, her mother was also GONE ALL THE TIME. She got to be BETRAYED BY HER MOTHER, and I am not going to say canon had saddled her with guilt over her difficult relationship with the mother in the wake of her death, but I think that's certainly the more interesting take given HER MOTHER PRETENDED TO BE DEAD FOR SEVEN YEARS.

So we have a Fareeha that should be fucking furious, that should want to be nothing like her mother, that should, in every active moment of her life, attempt to be nothing like her mother. Now, all of this could be great if Overwatch let her respond to "Oh, you remind me so much of your mother!" with, "Your criticism is noted" but boy they just will not let her stay furious at Ana.

But yes! God, why won't canon let Fareeha have motivations outside of her mother for doing literally fucking anything. She wanted to be in Overwatch, to be like her mother, and then Ana like...cock-blocked her, and that could be fun too! Ana raising fareeha to think that what she does is important and valuable and noble and then having the audacity to be surprised and annoyed when Fareeha wants to do the same*. But Fareeha has her own shit going on! I mean even the first comics, we see Fareeha basically say God's not her thing when someone quotes the Quran at her. Isn't that an interesting idea? Like at all? Fareeha's line in the We Are Overwatch trailer, something I took far too seriously, clearly, in thinking about these characters, is "We are hope." So we combine that with the fact that Fareeha is a DOER, and that she's not a real FAITH HAVER, all of which is canon by the way, though I did pull who she is to me now out of it, isn't THAT interesting? So...hope is in doing? yeah? What a cool idea!

But no, mostly it's content to let everything Fareeha does be about her stupid mother and I am so so frustrated. I even like Ana as a piece to move on the board, if we LET her be an insanely frustrating woman who believes the rules don't fucking apply to her even now.

*Because I love a good contrast, this is part of the reason I had Bert be like, "I can't ask a father to let me train his daughter to fly into danger and not be willing to send mine"

You zipped your bag closed, looking around your now bare room. You and your father had been provided rooms upon your arrival, but this place never felt like home.

It was like living in a mine field. You feared the day Shredder would turn on your father, and by extension, you.

You saw what had happened to Karai.

The memory caused you to shudder.

If Shredder was so willing to put the child he'd nursed from infancy in danger over his grudge against Hamato Yoshi, what could he do to you? To your father?

You quietly crept out of the Shredder's Lair and into the chilly New York air. The second you felt the wind hit your face, you booked it along the rooftops.

Trying to put as much distance between you and that hell hole as possible.

You had nowhere to go, but something could be figured out. Staying back there wasn't an option.

"What are you doing?"

You stopped dead in your tracks as you turned to face your dad, watching as his ears twitched, ever present of his surroundings.

"What are you doing, (Name)-chan?" He repeated.

You sighed looking up at him, "I'm leaving, Dad. I can't stay here anymore."

Your dad looked taken aback as you spoke, he crossed his arms, "What do you mean, leaving?"

"You know what I mean!" you said, raising your voice at your dad for the first time in your life, "This isn't right! What Shredder is doing is not right!"

"You are a child!" Tigerclaw shouted back, "You know nothing of what is right or wrong! You do as you are told!"

You scowled, "Oh and if I was told to shoot a child in the back of the head while it slept, should I comply? Tell me, Father, what happened to your honor? Where have you re-drawn the line?"

"(Name) please-"

"No! There is no honor in the Shredders work! There is no honor in harming millions of innocence for personal gain. There is no honor in slaughtering a family for a personal grudge!" You shook your head, looking away from your dad as tears welled in your eyes, you voice growing weak, "You've lost your honor."

Tigerclaw seemed to be at a loss for words, all he did was stare at you as your tears fell.

"I was scared, Dad. I don't feel safe around you anymore. It's- It's like you died and came back with your body, but not your mind. You're so blinded by your own hatred of those turtles that you can't see you're throwing away your own morals, the morals you taught me!"

"So you're leaving then." Your dad said, his voice low.

You nodded, wiping away your own tears, "Yes. I'm leaving. Now you can come with me, leave the Shredder behind and come with me, or the next time we meet will be as enemies on the battlefield."

Your father stood in silence, looking at you with his piercing yellow eyes.

"Ok then." you said, clutching your bag tightly, "Then this is good-bye." You turned from your father to face the skyline, sighing quietly.

"I love you, Dad."

You leapt from the rooftop, leaving behind your father as he processed the loss of his child.

Not looking good for Hana. Either Sukuna kills her or Angel takes over to get serious, destroying her consciousness in the process. Or Angel somehow manages to snap Hana out of it in time (don't think that's likely). Technically this isn't even such a bad situation to be in because not only is Sukuna hugging Hana but she is hugging him, so if Angel wants to attack, this is the best moment. At close range her technique would be even more destructive.

I was surprised Hana agreed to banishing Sukuna-Megumi this quickly, I thought that would be a bigger argument between her and Angel, but it does make sense with her goal to safe people. She puts saving Megumi above his bodily well-being. I'm sure Yuuji will have to face a similar dilemma in the future. Her just falling into Sukuna's arms took me off-guard though. Angel is literally screaming in her ear that she should stay away from him, but she seems completely oblivious to it. It does make sense though I think, considering her past and how she first "met" Megumi. People are saying she's "acting on a dumb crush" or "trying to use the power of friendship", but that's not it. If her feelings for Megumi were just a crush or she simply thought he's hot, I'm pretty sure she wouldn't be acting like this. It's more of a fixation. He seemingly got her out of a traumatic situation and she never managed to move on from that, probably because she never made any real deep connections with anybody afterwards.

She even says "Megumi is mine". She idolizes him, but also clings to him because in her mind he was the first person to show her kindness and she desperately wants to hold on to that. I thought it was weird that in her flashback Megumi doesn't really acknowledge her, but she still fixated on him this much. Considering how Sukuna managed to lower her guard, it makes more sense though. The gesture of reaching out to her, thanking her and telling her that everything is alright is what she wanted to see when he saved her with Shiro back in the day.

She grew up in a horrible and brutal environment. The children around her didn't seem to have much camaraderie due to fear. She constantly had to keep her head down and not stand out. Then a magical being comes by and seemingly picks her to lead her to safety, thereby acknowledging her and doing something good for her without demanding anything in return. It makes sense then, that this memory would have such a huge impact on her and by playing on that memory, Sukuna would be able to deceive her. If it was just a crush, Hana would have listened to Angel and stopped, but since it reached deeper than that, she was quite literally blinded. Hana wanted to return the favour and save Megumi, and at the same time wanted him to acknowledge that he really did see worth in her to bring her out of those ruins, that there was a purpose behind those actions (fate) and not just a whim or pure coincidence, where she herself didn't really matter. And that's what Sukuna gave her. She believes in fate because she wants her and her actions to matter (especially to others), and he reaffirmed that for her. This is also why I think that Megumi didn't actually consciously save her, Shiro just happened to run around and find her. Megumi was probably just practicing having his shikigamis out for a longer time. It makes for a good contrast between him and the facade Sukuna puts on.

She and Megumi are also quite similar in that they put a specific person on a pedestal and fail to really understand them as their own being with wants, needs, goals etc that go beyond them. And by failing to see that, they (most likely) lose agency over their own body and might even die. To be fair, Hana knew Megumi for like two days, of course she doesn't really know him (even if she believes otherwise). Megumi had over ten years to actually see Tsumiki for who she is...

But well, Hana's character was going to lead to this one way or another, so I'm not really surprised by this, just how it was executed. Her and Angels goals fundamentally clash and that has to be resolved. Only difference is that it's now Megumi instead of Yuuji, which is a lot more meaningful, since she has a deeper attachment to him. I still would have liked a bit more context surrounding Hana's decision to lower her guard and maybe a glimpse at her thoughts, but maybe we will get a bit more next chapter.

Yeonjun (TXT)

Hana was the first Seventeen member to formally meet TXT and her and Yeonjun just hit it off instantly. They've done a few dance covers together that fans have praised.

Based on the way Hanzo acts when Kenshi and Takeda reunite, I'd say that Hanzo definitely wants to reunite with his father but struggles with it.

In his mind, he can't reach out because Kaede told him to never come back, that he was no longer part of their family, so it's up to Kaede to do it and Kaede can't find him. After Hanzo reunites with Hana, she's not talking to their dad either so it does take a while BUT

When it does finally happen, it is a tearful reunion filled with a lot of apologies from Kaede and they do end up deciding to try and rebuild that bridge. It takes a long time but they do end up becoming close again.

Its actually Takeda who has the hardest time with it, bc while he forgave his dad, Hanzo's dad does not have a good enough excuse as far as Takeda is concerned, so he makes it very clear to Kaede that he does not like him and will not welcome him.

Kuai Liang and Frost are of a similar mind, though it's more about protecting Hanzo than punishing Kaede for them

i've had the abyss surrounds us by emily skrutskie (and its sequel) sitting on my shelf for literal years and i finally picked them up a couple of months ago and they were excellent??? like it turns out they weren't getting hyped on booktube ~2017 just because they were sapphic ya sci-fi at a time when there was very little of that, but because they're also genuinely very very good, which was definitely a surprise to me. i was expecting to like them well enough, not to love them like i ended up!!

7. Favourite new author (debut or new to you)

i've read all three of zoe hana mikuta's books this year so let's go with her jksdfhgk her books are very cool, though the prose is often unnecessarily dense (she loooves her purple prose) which can make it a little hard to understand what's actually happening (which she leans into hard in her wonderland reimagining, to the point of near-incomprehensibility, which she gets away with solely because it's wonderland), but that clearly didn't annoy me too much seeing as i still read all her books lmao. something i really like about her books is the way that she centres platonic relationships and platonic love just as much as she does romantic relationships and romantic love, and also isn't afraid of letting the platonic relationships be just as toxic and fucked up as the romantic ones can be

my mother is OBSESSED with bullet train, and i do really like it as well, so whenever we're in the same place we tend to end up rewatching it. it slaps. don't watch it if you can't handle bloody scenes, death, or the threatened death of a child, but if you can handle those things then i very strongly recommend it

Yes! I think as of right now both yuji and sukuna have a personal beef. Sukuna because yuji is his prison and whether he likes it or not, yuji is good at suppressing him. For yuji, well, poor boy was / is tortured by sukuna.

Oh which makes me think, if sukuna and yuji ends up on the same body, will their pact return? The one that sukuna cannot kill anyone? It should, because it something done with yuji's soul... maybe that's the key to saving megumi?

As to the the body and soul being the prison together, i think so, yes. In JJK there's really little difference between the two, more like one feeds into the other. The body being the byproduct of the soul, from Mahito's pov. But also the body retaining some of the soul even after death what Kenjaku uses to retain the techniques of the bodies they wear. And also what Sukuna uses to transfers himself between vessels, because the finger he rips off and feeds to Megumi is well, dead the moment it separates from Yuuji.

I think Nobara's power could work with Sukuna's finger, I mean it can't be destroyed but putting a nail in it isn't exactly destroying it. If Yuuji ate it, she'd just need to put a nail into him and that's easy. I have my gripes with the Yuuji will eat the last finger theory because it feeds into the fandom shittakes of "Yuuji's powers come from Sukuna, he's nothing without Sukuna". But it's not completely impossible that he will eat it. And I'm all for Nobara coming back and fighting alongside Yuuji, I love her and love it when they pair up. But truth be told, I'd rather the last finger didn't come into play, at least not as something Yuuji would eat.

I also hope for Higuruma and Chousou's survival, I also hope for Hakari and Kirara surviving because they are such a sweet couple. I also want Maki to survive, she had to endure enough, she deserves a break. And I want Hana to survive and be able to save people. And I want Uro to survive because she deserves a better life than the one she had before. Also if Gege kills Yuuji I will lose my mind. But I know the cursed cat is capable...

Takaba can theoretically pull of anything but he isn't exactly trained or fully aware of his powers. And he also needs to come up with a joke to make that happen. But I hope he does something fun.

As to Sukuna having a contract with Kenjaku, he might have one. But he might also just be interested in what Kenjaku is up to, Sukuna is a little cursed energy nerd too. He might hide it under the feral hunky image, but he clearly loves jujutsu and has thought about it a lot. Other than that he might simply owe Kenjaku without a binding vow, it's not impossible that Kenjaku and/or Tengen took in this unwanted child. There are so many possibilities, I hope Gege gives us a Heian flashback soon.

That one binding vow Sukuna had with Yuuji is done, fulfilled. It spanned a minute. Sukuna said he wasn't going to hurt anyone for a minute after he said "enchain". And I think Yuuji can cage him without a vow anyway, he'd just need to be in the same body as Sukuna again.

Sukuna has amazing expressions. And I especially love that the belly mouth is expressive too. It's also amazing how distinct his expressions are from his vessels'. Amazing job by Gege. And Sukuna refusing to engage with his little fandom really made me love him.

Most of my OCs are night owls/mostly work during the night hours so I would say most prefer clowdy weather - enough light to be able to see but not to be seen at night kinda thing

Obi's former pack/gang, consisting of Tom, Haru, Kris, Hana, Nokaru, Kano, Haruhi and newly Zee/Marina, have their own little hideout/safehouse similar too these huge ahh treehouses. Whenever it's a nice sunny day (without it being too hot) during spring they like to eat together outside on their "porch" - they are suckers for warm sunny weather ideally without a cloud in the sky.

Emi: the most gorgeous cursive you've ever seen. Elegant, consistent and easily readable.

Sister Fiona: trained in rewriting books like monks and stuff - very fast writer and it somehow ends readable, she makes her letters longer than they actually need to be.

I've never put much thought into their food preferences tbh...all I know is that Zarr and Butcher like anything made with alcohol.

Oh babe most of my background OCs take heavy inspiration from my fav thing (show, movie, song etc.) at any given moment. I find solace in thinking/writing about familiar things :)

Madame: very witchy woman, she's inspirated by forest witch aesthetics...the Slavic unsettling ones. Her personality is like a mush of Alastor from Hazbin Hotel, Hannibal and Nellie from Sweeney Todd

Doctor Nana: both Nana and Madame's core is basically cannibal core (only literally for Madame tho). Nana was made because I needed to channel my girlhood feelings of love that only young adult girls and clinically insane people can understand. She's the embodiment of "I love you so much I'll devour you, bones and all". Oh also by the Dismemberment song.

Zarr: his demeanor and speech patterns are basically my own dad + my friend's dad (I'm being fr), he leans into the stereotypical Slavic dad TM, only more open-minded. Also Red Foreman from the 70s show.

Zee/Marina: she would fit into Trainspotting (movie) so well - she was created before I even watched it but damn if she isn't Mark Renton I don't know who she is. She's also giving Velma from Starkid Scooby-doo parody (solve it squad) and Yura from Parties are for losers.

Haru and Kano: their dynamic is inspired by boy friendships around me. Most of the conversations they have are convos I've heard teen boys having on the bus from school. I shall not elaborate further u can figure it out

The Obi gang: their childhood experiences and dynamics are based on mine and my friends own childhoods - VERY Slavic core.
