At last I found myself a creative moment in the studio yesterday to sort through lots of lost treasures and broken artefacts. I was also able to design these salvaged jewelry and upcycled earrings in pretty teal and orange sunset colours. I love these puffy Cloisonné enamel disc beads which feature the ancient Chinese symbol of Longevity. They pair well with the two glass flower molded carriage clock decorations that I found in a box of large clock parts. I gave them a tint of turquoise and gold alcohol inks to bring out the textures. At the base are some pretty mother of pearl carved flowers with pink coral beads and Czech glass leaf. HISTORIC TREASURE UNEARTHED IN KENTUCKY CORNFIELD!

In a jaw-dropping discovery, a Kentucky farmer stumbled upon a treasure trove of over 700 Civil War-era coins while tending to his field. Aptly named the "Great Kentucky Hoard," the find comprises predominantly of U.S. gold coins dating back to the turbulent period between 1840 and 1863.

In a video capturing the moment, the anonymous farmer marvels at the astonishing collection, showcasing $1, $10, and $20 gold coins emerging from the soil. Certified by the Numismatic Guaranty Co. (NGC), the hoard boasts rare gems, including 18 of the coveted 1863-P $20 1-ounce gold Liberty coins, each capable of fetching six figures at auction.

Experts suggest the coins may shed light on Kentucky's history during the Civil War, speculating that wealthy residents may have buried their fortunes to thwart Confederate raids. Conflict archaeologist Ryan McNutt highlights the potential wealth of information these hoards hold about past individuals.

McNutt emphasises the importance of collaboration between landowners and archaeologists for a deeper understanding of these historical finds. Without such engagement, these snapshots of the past risk being lost forever.

You know me, I love a dig in a box of bits and bobs at a junk market and was excited to discovered these fascinating Mekhala Goddess artefacts and had to bring them home with me. The two oblong drops are Nielloware which is a Thai/Siam technique that involves carving a design into the silver, (usually gods and goddesses), then using dark niello (similar to enamel but made of alloy metals) to fill in the negative space. These hand crafted pieces feature delicate silver carvings of Mekhala, in an airborne pursuit by Ramasoon, god of Thunder. Ramasoon, frustrated by his fruitless chase, throws his axe at Mekhala and she deflects his blow with the crystal ball in her hand, creating a bright flash of light across the sky. The collision causes a booming rattle, thus creating thunder and lightning. I've upcycled these mystical treasures with sterling silver wires, ceramic beads and Czech glass beads.
