A Partial Fix-it AU based on Thought 2
Picture this. It starts as your regular crack filled social media AU, clones and jedi posting things, laughing, whatever. They’re doing it because the propaganda people thought it would be a good idea, but they are generally having fun with it, maybe there are some plans to use the exposure for good things like accountability and public sympathy etc. Maybe incorporate some actual scenes so that’s available as an option for later in the plot, or maybe it’s all done as documentation/social media format.
Anakin’s public account is popular for him being hot and ‘cause of existing “Hero with no Fear” propaganda. He mostly posts action shots taken by r2 or the 501st or activities with Ahsoka, nothing particularly deep, just fulfilling the assignment. Most of the jedi do a bit more activist photography, highlighting damage and deaths, or places in need of aid, but Anakin’s account isn’t far out of the norm, except in how much attention it gets.
You get a solid chapter or two of this pretty fluffy stuff, maybe with a memo or two about suggestions for jedi and clones responsibly using social media, maybe someone getting in minor trouble at some point, but overall these instances are played as serious needed to make the comedy shine all the brighter.
Then, all of a sudden, Anakin’s public account posts something in reply to some humans-first/other would be terrorist group’s post along the lines of “yeah we should do that like how I killed the animals who murdered my mom”.
He deletes it pretty quickly, but it’s already been screenshotted and passed around. There’s a period of,,, wait did General Skywalker’s account get hacked? Before the public really gets into investigating this. Some people slice into a semi-private chat from this extremist group and post screenshots and essays that identify Anakin’s alt account by some secret military information it gives away, as well as comparing phrasing to his public posts. Someone makes a connection to some attack that happened on republic space either by the extremist group or by Separatists connected to them. There are compilations of the alt accounts posts screenshotted before the whole account is deleted. The internet is kinda split once more of the story gets out, with some ratio of people saying revenge is cool and Tuskens aren’t people anyway, some people being like Anakin deserves to be killed alongside his own family in return, and some people managing a very sane, there was harm done on both sides but Anakin’s vengeance was wildly disproportionate, and his casual confession is incredibly disturbing to hear. Lotta people feeling betrayed by their idol, etc.
Republic intelligence attempts to censor the whole issue for “national security” (in fact they were actually the ones to delete the alt account) as Palpatine himself doesn’t really want Anakin’s secret exposed, but it’s not very effective against the viral nature of the issue.
Anakin is freaking out by this point, full on panic attack in a supply closet, ignoring messages from everyone. Ahsoka is really deeply confused/horrified trying to figure out if any of this is true while not being physically able to find Anakin. Some 501st clones are muttering but really not sure if they’re supposed to do anything.
It takes another minute for ppl on the Jedi council to find out about this whole thing, because (1) they are, as a rule, busy, and do not have time for doom scrolling and (2) republic intelligence does not inform them of jack shit. But before Anakin’s can get out of his panic long enough to make a plan to disappear and/or do something wildly stupid like go on the social media again, Obi-Wan appears on the Resolute. He’s greeted by Rex and Ahsoka, who still haven’t found where anakin is hiding. Obi-Wan is outwardly composed, but clearly several shades too pale, and determined, or possibly angry looking. He finds Anakin pretty damn quickly, and they’re locked away for a while, having some conversation where Anakin ranges wildly from yelling to sobbing to admitting he knew killing the tuskens was wrong to denying everything or saying they deserved it. Obi-Wan basically strategically (he’s really damn careful not to let it become a duel) provokes him until there are no more confessions or strong emotions left, at which point he gets Anakin to give up his saber, he has permission to leave the 212th to escort Anakin to Coruscant. One of the 501st troopers ends up posting a video of them leaving, Anakin looking like shit and Obi-Wan obviously carrying both of their lightsabers.
There’s like, a formal confession or something, and for a while it looks like there’s going to be a military trial, but eventually people realise it was a crime committed before the beginning of the war, outside of Republic space (this is partly a result of Palpatine interfering to stop Anakin potentially being executed by a military court—though I think he’d actually be chill with Anakin getting imprisoned for a year or two, so he could then “rescue” him from prison after forming the empire—and also attempting to minimise the possibility of Anakin exposing the fact that he told Palpatine about the massacre. Or maybe Palpatine cuts his losses and attempts to have Anakin killed at this point lol). Anyway the crime of Anakin’s that can be charged is giving away classified military information through carelessness, at the very least. He ceases to be a general pretty quickly and gets remanded to Jedi custody, and there’s a public outcry at the apparent lack of a punishment.
This leads to another PR thing, where the Jedi get to show their style of justice: very much about accounts and rehabilitation, to actual journalists. Something something Anakin’s movements are restricted, he can’t carry a weapon, made to rethink his actions until he can face them properly, plans for the future to see if there’s a reasonable authority among the Tuskens he will someday face, etc. A’sharad hett (no I don’t know how to spell his name) gets a platform to talk about the complexities of the Sand People-Settler -Hutt relationship on Tatooine. In the end it probably all gets twisted into more of the public distrusting the Jedi (this happens at exactly the moment Palpatine cuts his losses with having anakin as his apprentice btw)
Part of me wants to turn this into a full fix-if fic, but honestly it feels contrived because none of what gets dredged up leads back to Palpatine or the clone’s chips in any way.
It’s far more appropriate to me to have Palpatine be forced to cut his losses (due to Anakin being restricted to the temple and shoved face first into counciling/his redemption arc) and eventually executing order 66 while Anakin is still confined to the Temple (At this point the social media/documentation style pretty much collapses because all the characters exist in secret avoiding the new government, so maybe it’s the sequel lol). From there it can go two ways:
Anakin is out of practice even wielding a weapon, but he picks up a lightsaber off of a fallen Crèchemaster and goes on to die defending the younglings he killed in canon. Obi-Wan and Yoda find his body along with the rest, scorched by blaster burns. None of the Jedi in the Temple were killed by a lightsaber that day. Padmé was already pregnant by the time Anakin was exposed, so Obi-Wan goes to rescue her from getting kidnapped while Yoda goes to face Sidious. They’re all forced to hide and retreat like in canon, but Padmé lives to be involved in the Rebellion. Obi-Wan saw Anakin die as a Jedi, so he’s grieving but not despairing the same way as canon. He and Padmé work out some situation for raising & training the kids. The kids spend a significant chunck of time on Dagobah when Padmé and Obi-Wan are both busy. They love their swamp-master even though he acts grumpy sometimes (“the point, what is, of a secret swamp planet, if visitors, I always have hmm?”). Maybe Anakin ends up a force ghost via qui-gon jinn (who was secretly visiting him while he was restricted to the Temple or something lol), and can show up to give his kids cryptic advice when they get to the OT era (no he’s not allowed to just hang out and be a ghost-dad, that’s not how force ghosts do business. Also the kids wouldn’t be fully trained at that point, so they wouldn’t be able to see him anyway).
Second option is that Anakin pulls some bullshit (maybe he collapses the Temple in a productive way or smth) and escapes the Temple with a youngling or two. On the run he has a whole arc about finding out Palpatine is evil via the news and having to process that alone while being the adult to these younglings. Obi-Wan, Yoda, and Padme are doing basically the same thing as in option 1, except they don’t know where the hell Anakin is, and they’re worried Sidious has him, either as an inquisitor or a prisoner. A reunion happens, somehow, eventually. Luke and Leia work through having a dad, Anakin works through Padme and the kids being alive. There’s something where he and Obi-Wan have to have a conversation about how Obi-Wan does in fact trust him again, seeing what he’s done since order 66 (given Obi-Wan’s importance to the war they didn’t actually get to see each other much after Anakin’s initial confession). Anyway then they la de da their way into the OT era and stuff happens where Palpatine dies idk
I like both options a lot tbh, though the first one feels more thematically important re: Anakin dying for kids is a classic. I feel like I could fit in a Mace Windu lived thing in the second one tho, via him getting lightninged out the window while having two hands, or just changing that circumstance entirely. Oh also Ahsoka is somewhere. Maybe she ended up knighted and in charge of the 501st, since with Palpatine giving up on Anakin there’s really no reason for her to get targeted in any way (even if the Wrong Jedi arc still happens there’s less pressure by the Senate to kick her out of the Order, so a better investigation. Also whoever her new master is could have tempered some of the recklessness that got her in trouble there)…in which case I guess she and Rex can basically do their regular end of Clone Wars thing, and reunite with the others later as well.
This got a lot deeper than I expected it to almost two hours ago when I started writing. it’s great lol
if Star Wars had the internet Anakin would fall down an alt right pipeline so fast it’s not even funny. thought 1 is this doesn’t change the plot at all cuz he already said shit like that. thought 2 is him accidentally confessing to mass murder by posting to the wrong account

I’m gonna be honest, one of the main reasons why I can never really understand any defense of Anakin or get behind a good majority of “Anakin redemption” fics, is the fact that he murdered children.
Like let's just ignore the multiple genocides and enslavement of the galaxy for a moment, since technically you could argue that he only had a hand in that and didn't actually do it all himself, Palpatine, manipulation, blah blah blah-
He personally murdered children.
On two separate occasions, mind you.
Yes, murdering adults is also bad---don't think I'm saying it's not---but at least adults can actually try to defend themselves, most of them don't depend on the people around them to survive, and they have years of experience living in the galaxy that's given them skills they could use to survive if they managed to get away.
Children do not have any of that or---if they're a bit older and do---the skills they have are extremely underdeveloped. They cannot defend themselves, they depend on the people around them for everything, they have not lived long enough to develop sufficient enough skills to survive on their own in a world that's turned against them.
Argue all you want about the Council being "evil" and "stagnant" and "needing to die for the betterment of whatever," argue all you want about the other Jedi being "terrible to Anakin" and "deserving" their murder because of whatever reason, the CHILDREN had done NOTHING!!!
What could the children that Anakin murdered have done to "deserve" such a fate? Why did they have to die? Why couldn't they have been spared.
And the Tuskens!
Even if we assume that all of the adults in that village were personally involved in murdering Shmi, why did he murder the children? What did they do to "deserve" murder, other than having no control over who they were born as?
And like, we see in TBoBF that the Tuskens aren't just heartless monsters, they protect their own especially their young---are you telling me that none of the children tried to run? That none of the parents or elders told them to go while they tried to fight Anakin off?
And still, Anakin hunted them down and murdered them.
So no, even if you could explain away all the other atrocities Anakin has committed, I still wouldn't think any less negatively about Anakin.
He murdered children.
And I don't think that's excusable.

padmè comes back from the battle of genosis to a galaxy thrown into war, and a fiancè with a new prosthetic hand, and -
quite a few bones to pick with obi-wan kenobi
he has been incredibly professional with padmè
he has treated anakin like he is still a nine-year-old child
worse, even
when she had heard anakin ranting about obi-wan, after he almost slaughtered a whole tusken tribe for torturing and murdering his mother -
padmè had thought anakin was exaggerating. teen angst.
sure, obi-wan had referred to anakin as a 'pathetic life-form' when they first met, but he had mentored anakin in the decade since
yet he ignored anakin's cries for his mother, whereas padmè, who was only now starting to love anakin, could only last a couple of nights before rushing to tatooine
he critiqued anakin's strategy for keeping padmè safe, a strategy that padmè had contributed to
he had shown no gratitude for anakin coming to save him, merely derision for their failure
was that how obi-wan had always treated anakin? qui-gon certainly never treated obi-wan that way in her presence.
he had barely spent any time at anakin's bedside after the battle, even though padmè caught obi-wan looking at anakin, as if he wanted to stay and brush his hair off his face
padmè sighed, closing her eyes.
she had a job to do and a man to marry.
maybe, she'll find some time to shakedown obi-wan for his... interesting mentorship style of anakin, one day

oh hey, remember that post about how Anakin and Ahsoka's relationship was a lie from the very beginning because every happy memory she has of him she formed when he was already a mass murderer? how the idea of Anakin before he fell to the dark side she has in her mind was never even the truth?
well it took me ages to realize but the very first mission they have as master and apprentice brings them to the place he committed the mass murder. like i knew it but I didn't get what it meant. ahsoka spends the whole movie thinking anakin is just grumpy about his past but he's dragging the ghost of a horrible massacre!! and still thinking that little kid is annoying for being so bubbly and upbeat about a planet he hates so much!! he thinks it's her way of thinking that's wrong and needs to be corrected, never once realizing as he's walking across Tatooine that he absolutely should not be mentoring a child when he has killed dozens of them.
he just expects to build a master/apprentice rapport with her - expecting trust, obedience, attention of her - while just... lying. about everything. I don't even mean this in a bashing way, just in a 'it's fascinating and bonkers when you think about it' way.
it's not just ahsoka's image of anakin that was missing a VERY critical piece that would change her entire perception of him if she had known, it's that anakin is reminded by circumstances of that critical piece at the very start of their relationship and doesn't seem to think it matters.
he lies to obi-wan, but they have a prior relationship he doesn't want to destroy. but he lies to ahsoka knowingly as he builds a relationship he did not have to build. I don't know what I think about that other than huh, there's a lot of unpacking to be done here

Padme & Anakin anger &flaws
I may be in the minority but I do think Padme is principled and brave a lot, she has been that way since she was a kid, she was bassically trained to be that way so she could become a strong/good leader for Naboo and guess what Anakin is/was very principled and brave as well, the fact both of them share this about the other is one of the biggest reasons why they became involved and fell in love but Padme also is flawed, I don´t believe she was without flaws and one those flaws involve being almost as angry as Anakin.
We already saw Anakin´s reaction over Shmi´s death, Padme is almost as angry over Corde´s murder in AOTC, in the novel of Attack of the Clones Padmé has a moment in which she wishes she could murder the trade federation leaders and Count Dooku over Corde´s death and she wonders if that was how Anakin felt with the tusken raiders after they tortured and killed his mother, the main difference between them is that Padme would have to use considerable effort to do that which would lead to her thinking things over better, while Anakin could kill a lot of people just using his mind in the rush of the moment, he didn´t even needs his lightsaber to do that, so his control over himself has to be more constant.
Both Padme and Anakin share a perspective of justice being something that not neccesarily can be always tackled by a system, in fact Padme´s words after leaving the Senate to go rescue her planet was that there wasn´t probably any hope for the republican system, a concept like justice isn´t easily tackled by a system, especially one as flawed as the republic, Padme simply thoguht the republic could be fixed when she grew up and Anakin shared this sentiment as well but he wasn´t as hopeful as her.
So both have this rightheous anger in them and in Padme´s case that included her helping Anakin hide what happened to the tusken raiders, maybe she thought him being expelled from the Jedi Order and going to jail wasn´t the best way to deal with that, I personally think maybe that could have protected him from Palpatine but he surely would have found a way to become Anakin´s guardian and lawyer if that happened but my guess is that Padme simply had compassion for Anakin´s circunstances, because the origin of Anakin´s reaction was precisely being taken away from his mother, leaving her a slave which lead to her death and Padme knew as well as Anakin did that the dead of Shmi Skywalker would not garner justice from Jabba, the Republic or any other system or government body in the galaxy, literally nobody cared she died, only Anakin and the Lars family did which made Padme sympathetic to Anakin.
Padme also is very principled but imo she seems used to have a pov particular to her station which also leads to ignore some things people who had not been in her place experiment daily, she shares this flaw with Bail Organa as well. Slavery for Padme seemed a very horrible and sad reality but it wasn´t one of her priorities to end it, her priority was to help turn the republic into a more equal and fuctional body that could better deal with those situations and many others around the galaxy and she actually came close to discovering many of Palpatine´s schemes for this reason, which was why he and Dooku wanted her dead and she never semed to quite make the connection between slavery and the clones but then again nobody else did except for maybe Anakin and ironically Palpatine and Count Dooku.
Both Padme and Anakin were children forced into adult situations and both were told or were forced to, since a young age, to reppress their emotions, Padme as Amidala, Anakin as a slave who had to control his emotions so he would not bring trouble to his mother or himself and later as a Jedi. Imo this made both of them develop a kind of double life, Anakin in particular hated the Amidala persona, because Padme seemed so emotionless when she was that way but curiously enugh as Vader, one of his main go to presentation cards is to act almost as emotionless as Queen Amidala.
What I don´t view and never will see as part of Padme´s flaws is her love for Anakin or her wish to save him from himself in ROTS.
Those are not flaws, those are part of her strenght as a character imo because while she certainly wasn´t of the oppinion that eveything would be alright after what Anakin did, in fact Lucas commented she would not have stayed his wife had she lived, she definitely could see he wasn´t in his right mind on Mustafar, so their marriage may have been over if Anakin followed her but she still cared enough for him to try to help him get back to his own senses, because she knew if she gave Anakin that opportunity, his own horror over what he did would be as strong as anything she could tell him and he would have directly taken matters into his own hands even if they meant his death and this opportunity is precisely what Luke presented to Vader in ROTJ, which lead to the biggest victory over the darkside in the series, so no Padme´s love and compassion for Anakin will never be flaws from my pov, just like Anakin only could find himself again because he was able to feel compassion again as Vader. Both are connected that way.

The tusken massacre controversial take (both sides)
tw: mentions of rape, torture & racism
People WILL probably block me for this but IDC because I went up ahead and read up on the tuskens on the official Wiki and while I definitely DO see how it could be interpreted as racism (I genuinely believe Lucas Did Not mean for it to be read as such) . But. BUT.
I'm not saying the murder of the tuskens was "justified" but it was definitely a much. much. more complicated situation than people make it out to be. It is CANON that Tuskens are mistrustful to the point of Xenophobia of the other settlers on the planet, settlers who by this point have been there for generations. So the argument has to be made that their culture and traditions would NOT change overnight if at all. And therefore Anakin was right about one thing, (and I am willing to die on this hill.) the tusken children Would have grown up to be the same torturers and killers (possibly rapists, there were very few reasons for them to keep Shmi alive and none of them good)
Now, am I saying that killing children for something they might do or in this case Will do in the future is wrong? I'll be very honest, im only 70% sure my answer would be a definitive No. The other 30% is genuinely considering it. I cannot comment upon the female tuskens as there is literally almost NOTHING about them in Canon verse and so I know nothing about how culpable they are in this. But motherfucker NEITHER DO YOU.
Anyway yeah there are many tribes of tusken and some of them peaceful but this one was Definitely Not. We were sown this. This wasn't a matter of racism. this was a matter of Murderous, Torturing, Kidnappers. Who kidnapped and possibly raped this guy's mother.
Fact: Shmi was an innocent woman who had done NOTHING to the tusken
Fact: She was tortured at their hands for days
Fact: If someone did that to my mom, I'd be pretty murderous too especially if someone had been grooming (palpatine) me to give into my worst nature from age 9.
Idk man, things are definitely not as black and white as we are making them out to be. On EITHER SIDE. And if we're talking about bringing up the consequences of his actions before the senate? Most of them are not Nearly empathetic enough even give a fuck. They need the Hero With No Fear too much and even if they didn't they would NOT give a fuck. The jedi council definitely would but they would ALSO debate this, like a LOT.
EDIT: ALSO ALSO, ONE MORE HLL I'LL DIE ON, ITS MENTIONED IN WOOKIEPEDIEA THAT 1 TRIBE WAS A COMMUNITY OF 20-30 PEOPLE, STOP CALLING IT A FUCKING GENOCIDE. IT WAS A MASSACRE. IT WAS A FUCKING MASSACRE WHICH WAS UNACCEPTABLE BUT IT WAS VERY DIFFERENT FROM A GENOCIDE.
Edit 2: The tuskens also engaged in slavery. Definitely not the "🥺 innocents" people make them out to be.

WIP I'm Accepting I Will Never Write
My brain has been generating too many Star Wars ideas for me ever reasonably get around to writing all of them, so I'm going to start dumping them on here (maybe AO3 as well, not sure yet) once I've accepted it's an idea I won't get to. So, to start off:
Anakin got Arrested at the Start of the War
In this one, Anakin's massacre on Tatooine was revealed shortly into the war (Qui-Gon Jinn's ghost, A'Shared Hett or Padmé having a conscience, doesn't matter it's not the point of the idea and I don't think it affects the plot). Anakin goes to Jedi jail in the Temple and the war proceeds apace.
At the end of the war, when Palpatine sets off Order 66, the Temple Guard who in another timeline became the Grand Inquisitor lets Anakin out. They would be killing all the Jedi, but somehow the Jedi have been alerted and the Temole seems strangely light on clone troopers they could be using as backup. The Grand Inquisitor knows this, Anakin doesn't. He's been in Jedi jail and has no idea what normal operations in the Temple have looked like for the past three year. They manage to get to the atrium of the Temple with the objective of getting out and rounding up some clone troopers to come back with. Except there's this Tortuga fighting both of them. She's not getting in any hits in on them but this scrappy, can't be more than 16, 17-year-old is holding both of them off while simultaneously organizing the Padawans and Initiates to grab younglings and run.
Then the 212th enters, Cody and Rex frog marching Obi-Wan in.
Which gives Anakin the opportunity to villain monologue about the Jedi Order not understanding emotion, they threw him away, Palpatine recognizes his true power, Obi-Wan will see the destruction of everything he holds dear, blah blah blah. Basically entitled white boy I did no wrong (ignore the dead children), you'll regret being so mean to me (enforcing the consequences of my own actions), ranting regurgitating Palpatine's bullshit about Jedi.
Meanwhile, the Grand Inquisitor is noting that a lot of kids are safely getting the fuck outta Dodge and the 212th is getting some good lines of fire. Why are they letting Anakin monologue instead of enacting Order 66?
Finally as Anakin is winding down, Obi-Wan speaks up: yes but, you see, you made one critical mistake.
Anakin, sneering: oh what's that
Obi-Wan: you hurt your Padawan-sister
Obi-Wan Force pushes Ahsoka and every remaining kid out of range while the entire 212th opens fire on Anakin and Grand Inquisitor.
Inquisitor is dead on the ground (sorry buddy, you were just a plot device to get Anakin out of his cell and show off how badass Ahsoka is with Soreasu mixed into her Jar'dai (I think I spelled those right...)). Anakin is on his Force bullshit, not quite dead, as Obi-Wan, Cody, and Rex come over to check.
Anakin: you won't finish me off, you're a Jedi, you're too weak.
Rex putting three rounds in his chest and three in his head: I'm no Jedi, slaver.
Backstory to get to this scene that slammed into me like a ton of bricks months and months ago:
212th never split the 501st off since Anakin wasn't there to get Knighted. Therefore Fives went to Obi-Wan when he found the chip. Obi-Wan got Shaak Ti to distract the Kaminoans, so Quinlan (or another Shadow, but I like using Quinlan for the known connection to Obi-Wan) could dig in Kaminoans' files and find documentation as well as an emergency counter signal. Obi-Wan dechipped his battalion anyway, not wanting to rely on the counter signal being permanent. They then jammed Coruscant's communications when Cody got the Order from Palpatine. 212th then uses the counter signal on the Corries, as they go to the Temple to grab whatever Masters were on planet. The clones and a fourth of the Council go kill Palpatine as he's declaring the Empire on the floor of the Senate.

I really want Padmé to not justify a massacre, please and thank you. Anakin was genuinely torn up about it and Padmé should have, gently given his emotional state, told him that what he did is wrong, yes, but that does not mean he’s irredeemable. The fact that he feels remorse over it means he’s not a bad person, he just did a bad thing. And guess what? That’s human. We all do bad stuff sometimes, just on a different scale. It’s our reaction to what we’ve done that shows what kind of person we are.
Would it have made a difference if Padmé told him that instead of saying it’s fine? Maybe not. But it might have. A butterfly’s wings on their own may be fragile and weak, but their flutter creates winds stronger than you could ever conceive.

procrastinating school work so let me talk about my starwars (Anakin) aus
There's that lion!Vader Au, if I named it I don't remember the name but basically, either Anakin doesn't tell Padme where he's going or she doesn't go to Mustafar. might actually have R2D2 with Padme as her bodyguard or Anakin just didn't want r2 to know what he did to the separatist leaders. anakin doesn't come back from Mustafar because when he leaves the planet, the force decides 'okay, enough atrocities for the next... two decades.' and transforms him into a lion and sends him to a green planet. Sidious finds him a year later and decides to just build a gladiator ring and throw him in there to execute the people he wants dead on television.
19 years later Luke, Leia, Obi-Wan, Ahsoka, Padme, Cody, and Rex all get captured and are sentenced to be executed as a group with some other non-important people. Anakin eats the non-important people and vaguely recognizes some but tries to kill Luke and Leia because he doesn't recognize them.
SITS au - sith in the senate au - me trying to explore my favorite arc (mortis) and what would have happened if Anakin left with the son (and the daughter) and the father let Ahsoka and Obi-wan go thirty minutes later but Anakin is nowhere in sight when they go back to the real world. this is also the au where the Tusken massacre is really addressed in this au, in others it didn't happen, obviously in lion!vader it did since it only changes in rots. i don't know if it's really a character study that I'm doing for this au but I'm actually writing an essay on Anakin for my writing class and I'm so using elements from this for that and from that for this.
(please- someone stop me from making Barriss run away from the Jedi and Anakin adopting Barriss after she ends up on Tatooine and Anakin gets over his initial feeling of 'YOU D:<')
14!au. i have no other name for it as of right now.
anakin gets found by Palpatine and Shmi dies (i think) but surely its not you Pal Friendpatine's fault :0
Anyway, Palpatine finds Anakin at like... 5 and adopts him and brings him on his path to becoming chancellor and then the clone wars start at the Naboo blockade, Palpatine started cloning **early**. no, I have no idea how old Jango Fett is, why do you ask? anakin befriends some of the clones and takes an interest in politics because he thinks he can convince then senate to stop creating clones and just recruit normal civilians to the army.
this au is inspired by Hazbin Hotel song 'you didn't know' and some brave group of clones tries to plead their case to the senate, ankin watches in on it, nala se mentions the chips in the kaminoan rebuttal of clone rights and Anakin FREAKS. palpatine tries to calm him saying 'they are to control them, they're dangerous otherwise' and basically dooms himself. also, Anakin specifically has wings. see, I subscribe to the thinking of 'Anakin can shapeshift due to his unstable DNA' Edit: I Found it! @thewildballyntynesgrow or mballyntyne on Ao3 with their series 'A Wild Thing to Tame'. Anakin leaves taking a majority of the coruscant guard with him and goes back to Tatooine and starts freeing a whole bunch of planets over the years. the meeting in the senate takes place when he is fourteen, the empire starts when he is seventeen. Anakin adopts Boba and Galen Marek. anakin and the freed outer rim either hide rebel bases or use their revolutions as distractions for the empire.
Retconned rebel Anakin Au. aka, Barriss is the same age as Anakin and befriends him and Ferus eventually befriends him, and Anakin is closer to those two and some others than Obi-wan and Ahsoka (who is Obi-wan's padawan) Barriss never bombs the temple, the empire rises but the original empire dies like a year into the reign and another emperor rises.... Emperor Obi-wan Kenobi and his daughter Ahsoka how are both overly attached to rebel leader Anakin Skywalker and are both trying to adopt him and turn him to their side... by kidnapping Anakin's family. (rexanidala). anakin adopts so many kids, most of them are force-sensitive and want to fight so he lets them reluctantly but those not young enough to choose or fight are sent to live with Rex, Padme, Luke, Leia, and their grandparents; Dooku and Plo.
Ventress and Anakin Swap au, sort of. anakin got nabbed from his mom by Dooku. Dooku never found Ventress, Obi-wan does instead. Obi does not train Ventress but they are friends forever after. ventress tries forcefully redeeming the seventeen-eighteen year old Sith lord and it only sort of works. he defects but really only after he finds out about the slavery in creating battle droids. Anakin isn't really a separatist general, he just has a specialized group of droids that he rebuilds after fights with Jedi. he never fights clones with droids.
after defecting Anakin plans with Ventress and decides to free the outer rim then take the former slaves that will join him and start up a third party to the war. inspired by 'blood oath' by the art of pleasing princes.
okay so for this next au, named Anakin Umakkar, The rain storm. sources are ADragonsFriend and @fialleril or fialleril on a03, and @clawedandcute or ClawedandCute (Adi_Fire) on a03. and songs this au is inspired by for this au is (and in order) Puppeteer, Done For, Hell is Forever, There are Other Ways, What Did I Miss? and Respectless.
Umakkar was a name I first read about in a book called 'Elder sisters' by ADragonsFriend. I first heard about Ekkreth in Fialleril's books. the concept of Anakin staying on Tatooine was inspired by ClawedandCute's book and au 'The Accidental Sith'
Anyway, Qui-gon and the queen's ship never stops on Tatooine, but the clone wars do not start early. a solid two months into the Clone Wars, it is revealed that Jabba the Hutt has been dead for a year, and Tatooine has freed itself from the huts. Senator Padme Amidala and Jedi Obi-wan Kenobi (and Padawan Ahsoka Tano) are sent to Tatooine to try to get Tatooine to align with the republic. now please listen to Puppeteer and Done For (no, Anakin does not turn any clones into pigs, just like any non-clone serving in the army ). once Obi-wan draws his lightsaber on Anakin, Anakin just swipes it away, unhurt, and has him and other... three (Cody, Padme, and Ahsoka)locked up until he decided to hear them out. (cue hell is forever, the last lines being, "the freed outer rim has found both the separatists and the republic to be the enemy" ya know due to their armies) then when it looks like Anakin is gonna do something to them to send a message to the republic, Obi-wan pleads with him and mentions the Sith Dooku mentioned and any evil smile on Anakin's face slips away into annoyance "Sidious, huh?" and in 'There are other ways' fashion tells obi-wan about Mortis and other wells in the force that might be better for the Jedi to focus at. when asked why he had that reaction to the 'Sidious' character, he implies that Sidious has reached out to him to join either side of the war, like once per side.
he sends Obi-Wan and the Clones that want to return on their way and a year later decides that enough is enough and heads to Coruscant under the pretense of negotiating. palpatine sets up a committee to welcome Tatooine to the republic only for 'respectless' to happen and Anakin starts arguing with Orn Free Taa, then Palpatine himself and once Palpatine leaves, turns to the Jedi in the room and says "yeah, you might want to look into that..." and leaves.
Detached Mortis god au: inspired by the ocean saga
switching up the timeline here, Rako Hardeen happens, the Wrong Jedi arc happens, *Then* mortis happens. Anakin is alone on Mortis, he decides to stay, Padme is pregnant, the empire rises, Padme survives and joins the rebellion, Ahsoka becomes Fulcrum. Obi-wan joins the rebellion to help train Luke and Leia. Luke, Leia, Han, Ezra and some others start on a mission, but it starts off rough. Ezra decides to pray to a Force Diety he or Ahsoka met once and the diety appears and decides to grant them safe passage to the actual start of the mission as long as they keep Ahsoka, who they meet up with later on the mission, safe. if they accept and fail, another god is going to have a really big problem with them. they accept and all goes well until the last day of the mission, everything falls apart and Ahsoka is separated from the group and captured. the gang decides they need to go back to base to think and plan. on their way back their ship is seemingly attacked but they cant tell by what, they crash land at base and get out of the ship, not the falcon, only to meet two dragon-like-creatures, and a portal opens and a very pissed Anakin steps out. he kidnaps a bunch of rebels and puts them in the world between worlds and tells them they only get their people back when Ahsoka is safe. Obi-Wan and Padme only make it to the hangar this goes down once Anakin has stepped back through the portal.

Ok, since apparently I have to explain this to some people- (*cough* Stanakins *cough*) -here's a quick, easy to understand, post on the topic:
NO AMOUNT OF TRAUMA EXCUSES MASS MURDER, CHILD MURDER, OR VIOLENCE OF ANY KIND!
Zero.
Nothing.
Nada.
I don't give a fuck that Anakin was a slave for 9 years, I don't care that he had to be separated from his mom at a young age, it doesn't matter that he watched her die ten years later.
NOTHING excuses the fact that he literally MURDERED an ENTIRE VILLAGE including THE FUCKING CHILDREN!!!
And, frankly, if you think that committing mass murder and child murder in response to a loved one dying is a "reasonable," "understandable," or "the only human reaction"- (because, yes, I was told that if I wouldn't commit mass murder if my mom died, then I wasn't human) -then please, for the love of god, stay away from other people and never pursue a career in the justice system.
Like, seriously, what the fuck is wrong with y'all?

the tusken massacre was a writing mistake
it throws off anakin's arc by making him go too dark too early.
this is not an original thought - I've seen other people talk about it.
narratively:
"I killed the captors, but I wanted to kill them all. Not just the captors, but the women and the children."
would be a better narrative stepping stone when anakin is still a padawan and before the clone wars.
he still commits vengeful violent murder, but he had restraint.
and then, with order 66, it escalates
the problem with the tusken massacre in regards to anakin's character arc is that it undercuts his actions in order 66 because he's already killed innocent children before.

thinking about all my au ideas where no one dies. thinking what if when shmi is "kidnapped" by the tuskens it's actually not for hostile reasons at all, but because she got hit by a stray bullet from a misfire and they took her to try to heal her. but tuskens aren't near-humans, so their medicine doesn't work very well on humans. when anakin finds shmi she is still near death, but it's clear that was not the tuskens' intention. he takes her home, and gains a new perspective about the "savages" he had always disdained.

got prequels on the brain lately, and i think i can explain padme in rots, even if it might not be exactly what lucas was thinking of. see, it's not just that she loves her husband and wants to believe there must be still be some good in him, it's also that she is now not just anakin's wife, but the mother of his child(ren) too. like, literally about to pop right as obi-wan/yoda have decided anakin needs to be killed. she doesn't feel she can stay on coruscant anymore as a senator under the emperor's reign, she was already doubting doing that job as a working mom. then she learns the jedi have all been deemed traitors and their order outlawed, while she's carrying offspring very likely to be highly force sensitive since the force itself is pretty much the paternal grandfather there. so, she herself is a potential political target as someone who opposed palpatine's war efforts from the beginning in a more public way than bail organa or mon mothma, and her child(ren) would also be targeted just for existing as potential jedi before ever really using the force against the empire. being a single mom to outlawed and untrained but very powerful l'il jedi while the both of you are being targeted and hunted down on the run/in exile without the skills really needed to protect any jedi child, that's just a no-go. her only anti-palps and anti-anakin alternatives would have to include never being a mother after giving birth, whether going into exile alone somewhere or wearing a mask and playing the long game like bail organa. (even if he still adopted leia as in otl, how much time could she really spend with her without drawing more suspicion from palps? how painful would it be to watch someone else raise your child while possibly never even knowing if your other child is ok?) in that sense, knowing how wanted that unplanned pregnancy was, is it any wonder that she chose to make a last attempt to save their family instead? to run away with her husband, who happened to be the only man strong and powerful enough to protect them all from the empire, the only man she could trust and wanted to trust, with the safety of their whole unsplit secret little family. so it is only after he refuses to run away with her, when he insists that he's only interested in using his new dark powers to protect her, and when he reveals that his only idea of defying palpatine is to replace him, making padme into a new dark empress, a dictator rather than the public servant she once thought she could be, only then that she starts feeling he may just be lost to her after all. but when you've gone so far together already, brushing off his first massacre, marrying him mere days later, and then truly tying yourself to him permanently through pregnancy, it's really too late to ever go back to your ol' "normal" life either.
