Okay I'm being insane analysing facial expressions, but his little smile when he pauses reminded me so much of his smile watching the ending of The Searchers.
Also, I was going to cut this when he does the little shoulder hunch and sinks into the couch but I didn't because, 1. The voiceover at the end of that episode is one of my favourites in the show (The Searchers in general one of my all time favourite episodes, maybe my all time favourite), and 2. In finding this clip I was reminded that in this live he talks about how he recorded that voiceover at home, in his closet. Which given the context I just thought was very funny.

I just had a theory about the larger shadow that disfigures when Bendy tried to make it into a human shape being related to the lost ones in Bendy and The Ink Machine and now I can’t look at it any other way.
It could even explain why they have emotions when other demon’s shadows don’t because there is definitely some kind of connection with Bendy and the actual ink machine in The Inky Mystery.
Tumblr media
On the Bendy wiki it describes the lost ones like this:
‘The Lost Ones have a similar appearance to humans, only deformed, skeletal, and slimy. They are composed completely out of ink, with skin texture similar to black tar’
This could a reference to how the shadow disfigures and is made of shadows in The Ink Mystery. Additionally:
‘Their original personalities remain almost untouched, but they appear to be suffering in a state of despair; most will stand in complete stillness, some either hunched over and crying or, in one case seen in some occasions, banging their head against the wall in a suicidal manner. If provoked, the Lost Ones act as a threat towards anyone they deem dangerous’
This could explain the feeling of dread Bendy felt and the way the shadow acts a few moments later when it tries to attack him and Allison.
However it could also be a reference to the searchers in Bendy and The Ink Machine because of this:
Tumblr media
I mean look at them:
Tumblr media
There are a few dissimilar things between the two like only having three fingers and the arms being the same length but it’s also show in BATIM that the searchers and the lost ones have a lot of variation in their appearances so that’s not enough to discredit this theory.
Tumblr media
If you listen to the sound the searchers make it’s very similar to what is described in the scene
youtube
And the way that the shadow attacks is similar to how the searchers attack in BATIM (with their arms).
youtube
(Sorry if it’s hard to see it’s was difficult finding videos of them actually attacking.)
Also! This could explain why Baby (the smaller shadow) is so helpful to Bendy because some Lost Ones are friendly (as described by the wiki):
‘there have been a few notable exceptions such as Porter and Heidi who aren't aggressive towards Audrey Drew and actually help her out.’
I came up with theory this like 10 minutes ago and I’m already in love with it

The Searchers (1956) dir. John Ford // Attack of the Clones (2002) dir. George Lucas
One of the major plot threads in Attack of the Clones concerns Jedi apprentice Anakin Skywalker’s search for his mother Shmi, who was left enslaved on the desert planet Tatooine at the end of the previous movie in the series. Plagued by nightmares of his mother’s distress and convinced these visions are prophetic, Anakin rushes back to Tatooine in the hopes of finding her. Instead, he discovers that Shmi, though briefly liberated and happily married to a farmer, was captured by the Tusken Raiders, a nomadic tribe hostile to outsiders. Anakin tracks down the Tusken camp and finds his mother just as she is dying, presumably from weeks of beatings. Enraged, Anakin kills every Tusken in sight—(in)famously “not just the men—but the women—and the children too!” This chapter of the film almost operates as a condensed remake of The Searchers. Anakin’s scouting out the camp and the later funeral scene openly quote shots in Ford’s movie. And then there’s the basic dramatic trappings: the quest for a captive loved one, the obsessed warrior driven by hatred and grief, and even, to a smaller extent, the emphasis on the individual’s psychological need for belonging in a community. Ford extensively explores that third point through the romance subplot with Laurie and his depiction of close-knit settler families, while Lucas makes those notions more implicit in Anakins alienation from the stoic Jedi Order and how this divide pushes him to the dark side. Everyone talks about how Anakin is meant to evoke James Dean’s red-jacketed teen hero in Rebel Without a Cause, but he shares way more DNA with Ethan Edwards. For both characters, the genesis of their never-ending rage comes from the violent death of a mother (we see it plainly in Attack of the Clones, while this bit of Ethan’s backstory is only evidenced by the information on Mrs. Edward’s gravestone). Erotic transgression troubles both characters as well: Ethan is in love with his brother’s wife Martha and the supposed-to-be-free-of-romantic-attachments Anakin is in love with Padme Amidala. For these anti-heroes, love becomes twisted into something obsessive and ugly, turning each into monsters unable to connect with anyone. In the end, both are redeemed by love, though neither will ever fully escape their isolation from the greater community. — from 'On George Lucas, the Searchers, and Cinematic Quotations'

Rewatching the tsunami arc, and the end of The Searchers is objectively so funny.
You’ve got the most emotionally harrowing scene in maybe the whole show, with Buck trying to find the words to tell Eddie that his son is gone. And then Christopher is alive, after a whole episode of uncertainty, and the team is there just in time for Buck to collapse into their arms, and everyone is acting their entire backsides off -
And then Photograph by Ed Sheeran starts playing.

Rewatched some scenes from The Searchers (which the tsunami two parter might be my favourite episodes overall so far) and can we talk about how how Eddie tells Buck that it's Christopher's turn to save Buck, says thst there's no one in this world he trusts more with his son than him and thanks him for never giving up when trying to save Christopher, and then voiceover Buck comes in with-
'A few choice words can sometimes be the life raft that gets you home. To be seen, to be found isn't that what we're all searching for.'
I just can't with these two! Like, whether you believe it was intentional or not, of course people ended up shipping these two. How could you not?
Also, as someone who used to repressed my emotions and who still struggles with vulnerability, I relate to Eddie in general, but I especially love his characterisation in this scene. Because he knows Buck is struggling and thinks he failed Chris, further compounding how worthless he feels not being able to work. He knows this and yet he comes in talking a mile a minute about incredibly surface level stuff and sticking in as many jokes as he can and only stops when it's clear Buck isn't going to let what happened be glossed over. And even then he makes a joke again before he leaves because God forbid he sits in his discomfort for all of five minutes. It's just very real.
