Your Friend Silver (Elias) by @uuberwachen ! this was such an INSANELYYY well written story and it stuck with me for DAYS. it really slots in the space in my mind that holds the classics and the twists and stuff with it genuinely got me. i cant recommend it enough if anyone who sees it hasnt read it yet. i got so excited when i saw a dedicated ask blog went up. i wish i werent scared of sending in questions to those things

Pixel Blue: 3DS VIRTUAL CONSOLE (2016) by @calybunz ! ahhh this was such a cool one to read! id see updates on it incidentally n i can tell a lot of work went into it- it was definitely worth it! its well written with a lot of heart.. maybe im just a sucker for stories that focus on a sympathetic blue.. the ending made me so SAD dude what the fuck. though my favorite parts were probably the dream sequences- godd the imagery of it all was fantastic!

Nuzlight (Mia) at @nuzlight-mia ! this is one i dont know much about yet, but her personality and design really captivated me when i first saw her! she seems like such a sweetheart and i look forward to getting to see more of her :3 i feel so bad for her situation.. the story n concept are all so interesting!

FIRE RED FREE DOWNLOAD (Infected/Abandoned RED) by @aibouart ... another one i saw the design of first and was just IMMEDIATELY struck by. i love when stories twist in-universe things that're generally treated as normal and mundane and use its horror potential! a parasect parasite outbreak where the protagonist gets infected by that and ends up full of mushrooms...? thats the kinda shit i love to see >:)

Jack by @sparklingdemon ! cool ass design ive been wanting to draw and a cool concept to go with- the creepyblack protagonist as a grinning-reaper type where the ghost is an extension of him rules. i also loveee when designs utilize the fossil missingno stuff!! kabutops's arms lend themselves REALLY well to being a scythe

Glitchy Red: Retold by @lycankeyy / @glitchyred (idk which blog youd rather have tagged sorry). so i saw this when the official ao3 repost went up or got mentioned or something and it. really. resonated with me. like its hard to put my thoughts into coherent words, other than i had to just. Lay Down for the rest of the night after reading it and just feel whatever emotions struck me. it cut really deep but honestly- that's just fantastic. it's not often that i read something that makes me feel as viscerally as this rewrite did, and i have nothing but adoration for it because of that (we do have the plural bias which doesnt help regarding this lol). in my mind this is the definitive version of glitchy red.

What is this?

Pink Onyx AU is a Steven Universe AU focused on interactions between Steven and Jasper and is intended to be read after you have finished Steven Universe Future, as it contains many many spoilers for the series. If you have watched it already, great! Welcome! The goal is to bring you a Jasper redemption arc that we couldn’t get due to time and cooperate restraints on the Crewniverse. I hope you enjoy!

I do not own these characters or their likenesses except for the single fluffy thembo fusion I created for the story. This is just a fan comic.

Comic is PG-13 for some angsty/touchy themes, minor blood, violence, and gem-cussing. Touchy-subjects will always be in a cartoon-ish metaphorical representation you would likely find on TV and be available for multiple interpretations.

When do you post?

Typically when you see this post pinned, I’m on a bit of a break, but when Nyx wakes up (this post goes away) the comic is due to be released 1 page at a time at 7am EST most days. I try for a daily release. Sometimes I skip a day if I’m behind. Episode release dates are always announced ahead of time by a few weeks.

Is this a romantic ship AU between Jasper and Steven?

Nope, more like an aunt and her nephew trying to figure it all out. No romance between these two here.

Is your Tapas updated at the same time?

Nope, tumblr comes first, and the tumblr will always have bonus content which Tapas will not. The Tapas for this updates after the tumblr version is completed. Usually same day or within a day.

Do you have a reference for Onyx? Sure do!

How do I use the ask system for this blog?

You can leave a message, or even an object, for the characters to interact with. The asks you leave can be answered by myself, Onyx, Steven or Jasper within the realm of this AU. Your asks will have no effect on the comic story. Think of it like the actors are in their dressing rooms and you get to give them a poke while they take a break! As the comic story progresses, their replies to your answers may change! Their responses will be in-character depending on where in the story we are.

My note by the den (an ask) was never answered. How come?

Lots and lots of asks come in every day. I wish I could answer them all! Since I draw something to go with most answers, especially the character ones, they do take a bit of time. Sometimes, I get duplicates of the same ask, or an ask that may refer to something that spoils the story if I answer it. I might hang onto those asks for a later time! Or group them into categories to answer all at once. I hoard asks for 1 year in an attempt to get to them. If I missed yours, know I tried and I love them anyway! I hope it does not discourage you in the future.

What kind of fusion is Pink Onyx? Are they good or bad? Pink Onyx is a fusion of a protagonist and an antagonist, so their alliance is yet unknown, but they have Steven’s good heart and Jasper’s loyal nature. They also have Steven and Jasper’s flaws, so they can be volatile and emotionally explosive at times, too.

What are Pink Onyx’s pronouns? Onyx likes they/them, but also answers to he/him and she/her, especially when Steven or Jasper is dominant over one another. They also seem to take on a fluid role and prefer a she/her when in a caretaker status. They dislike it/its.

What does Pink Onyx sound like? Personally, I hear them as a youthful, masculine tone. Like Steven if a little older. But I also enjoy when people say they hear them as a gruff, Amazonian-type feminine. I enjoy and endorse both.

Do Jasper and Steven enjoy being fused to one another? For now, it is a struggle, but they enjoy what the other brings to the fusion even if they won’t say it.

Does Pink Onyx need to eat and do human things? If so, do they enjoy it? They don’t need to do them, but they do feel the discomfort without them. Things like breathing, eating, and sleeping are optional for Onyx, but they will become quite irritable if not allowed to do them. They greatly enjoy sleeping and trying new foods.

What does Jasper think about having human organs when fused? She’s pretty grossed out by the idea of organic matter going into her mouth and coming out of other places. The heart beating and lungs breathing she can feel for the first time, and it is highly strange for her to experience.

What is Pink Onyx’s favorite food? They adore anything watermelon flavored and Cookie-cat ice cream products

Does Pink Onyx have any special fusion powers? They do, and as they learn about themselves, more powers seem to come out. Each of their base component appears to be enhanced in a unique way. They have Pink Diamond at their core, so the destructive potential is also there.

Why is Steven hiding Pink Onyx from others? This AU occurs directly after the events of "I Am My Monster", so Steven is very emotionally, and mentally, raw. He fears judgement for running back to Jasper, who in the past, was part of so much trauma he already endured.

Pink Onyx seems to know nothing about human culture and gem culture despite being a fusion. What’s going on? Jasper and Steven agreed to fuse, but they have yet to open up to one another about much else. The fusion exists because they agree to do so, but Jasper won’t open up about her emotions, and Steven is so sensitive yet that he is not sharing because he knows Jasper won’t want to hear it. This causes Onyx to be unable to access both of their memories easily, but they can bring it out with enough effort.

My first fully rendered drawing in my regular style with ClipStudioPaint and I drew no one else than my sona Ivulka. It's been ages since I drew her fully rendered instead of just doodles so I simply had to draw her and I'm going to use this as an excuse to ramble about her and people here can finally know what on earth is that thing in my pfp

So Ivulka is some kind of a chimera dragon thing. Not sure if she can be concidered as a chimera but her body possess features of other animals such as bat ears mixed with caracal, Luna moth appendages on the wings, reindeer antlers and neck fluff and the rest of her body is a mixture of otter and tree kangaroo. Yeah and she also has a hidden stingray stinger and a kangaroo pouch

She may have mammalian features but she's not a mammal, nor a reptail. Scientifically she'd belong into own class. Maybe something in between...?

She's been around since 2016 and she went through changes

The 2016 version is basically a classical feral furry dragon. I drew this before I joined DeviantArt which was 2017. I actually never shared this

The 2017 version is still just a furry dragon but I made her anthro and this was her official introduction when I joined DA. I still like this version even tho its outdated and I like in general how I drew her back then.

In 2018 she was slowly becoming more chimera like.

In 2019 she went through a bigger update. she was still recognizable but I changed her more than the pervios version and this is the version that still holds up to these days. I wanted to give her more specific features and add more things I like and feels more like me. I still love this version and how I drew Ivulka in general.

The 2021 version... this version... not gonna lie I don't like how I drew her. This is my least favorite drawing of her. I don't know what was going on in my head back then but her head looks more canine than otter she's supposed to be. I also don't like the shading but I have an excuse for this. This is from when I started to draw with my tablet and Medibang and I was experimenting with shading.

Then there is this 3 years long gap when I didn't draw Ivulka fully rendered or at least not in full body. Instead I drew a lot of doodles. After I got my tablet and medibang I've been drawing her like crazy

hey guys! i’ve got a bit of a (big) life update for y’all.

unfortunately, i’m having to figure out a new living situation pretty unexpectedly. my roommate and i talked, and basically he’s wanting to live on his own again. so i’ve got about two months to get moved out of here and find a new place. (i’m working on it! luckily i recently reconnected with a friend who’s a real estate agent, so who knows - maybe i’ll get my own damn house >:D)

for anybody that follows me on ko-fi, you might have seen the update i put there. this is a more detailed version of that.

basically, this means (and i am so so so SO sorry about this) it’s going to be a while before i can get a lot of these charm orders out.

i’m going to try my best to get out what i can in-between packing, but don’t be surprised if your order takes several months to ship. again, i’m so sorry - i know it took me ages to even get them listed.

i had intended to start printing and eventually list my new halloween dca sticker design by october first at the absolute latest. but with the whole “ideally be moved out within two months at the latest, earlier if possible,” thing, that may not be happening.

i’m still gonna try, though!!!!! i’ll try and save my sticker making things for later in the packing process, and maybe try and get that stuff figured out before the end of this month. we’ll see if i can juggle it with everything else - i really think it’s dependent on me catching up on my other orders, first.

in addition to all of this, i’m still out of work on FMLA for my back problems. on the bright side - my appointment is FINALLY coming up!!! yippee!!! but that also means i have to take a lot of breaks from packing and working on stickers because… back hurty. but it ALSO means i have the time to do all this stuff, breaks included, because i’m not working. so…silver linings, am i right? :D

also just wanna say thank you to everybody again - i have made SO many friends in this fandom, and i’ve had a blast being able to make stickers and finally charms!!!! half the reason i’ve been able to bounce back so quick after getting this news the other day is because i’ve already had some of my pals who saw my kofi post messaging me and wishing me well. and the money from the charm orders is gonna help ease the moving/shopping process a lot, so - thank you all so much!!!!

Sketch Showcase Time!!!

Sooooooooo, these are days two and three of my "Learning How-To Draw Pinky and Brain Phase." And, y'all, I think I found my groove! This is attempt 2 of drawing Pinky:

Already, I'm very pleased with this. I mean, this was my attempt to re-create Pinky's design by @goosieboosie. I'm not a digital artist, so I couldn't capture all the majesty of this design perfectly, but I did a decent job. This style allows me to draw Pinky's face a lot easier, and I can get more creative with facial features. I was really happy when I finished this, I kinda freaked out because, he looks great!! I even drew my gender/sexuality headcanons for Pinky beside him, as well as his signature because, why not? I tried to re-draw this picture a few hours later and I made a new discovery:

Sorry for the blurry pic! But yeah, I think I invented my own unique style!! This is the first version of this; there a few changes from my first re-draw. The main changes are Pinky's eyes being rounder, and his ears a little bit larger. I think the base shape of his head is also a little different. I think he looks so derpy!! I was instantly in LOVE with this updated design, so I decided to draw it again and:

The design is a little different again! And also, my first expression!!!! (Ignore the weird as hell erased Pinky head you see; it was a massive failure and I couldn't erase it all :( ) I really think the Pinky on the left turned out better than I thought!! I love his cute little face and his extra floofy head. The second pic is another kind of model pic, but I added a little tongue because it looked cute. I also added the mind bubble and the little blurb just for added effect. I think he looks cute, what do you guys think?

On day three/attempt 3, I actually doodled a Pinky without looking at a reference in one of my books because I was in school. Here's how it turned out:

I LOVE IT!!!! I was so shocked when I finished with this because I think Pinky looks amazing!! It's not perfect, but when compared to day one, it's like night and day. This is my favorite Pinky I've done so far, and it only took my like 25 minutes; what an improvement when compared to over an hour just for one drawing lol! I've made some small changes here, and I will continue to make changes for the time being. I'm still finalizing my style.

Later on, I did something I'm very proud of:

My first full-body Pinky!! I drew the body first and then added a head in later. I also marked certain areas that I might improve upon later, and little personal touches that I added for fun. Yeah, I think his head is a little too tall, but I'll fix that. I implemented some unique elements such as his muzzle area being based on the OG show, the tufts of fur on his head being longer, the chest fur, his feet being stuffed-animal like, his short legs (which will probably be longer in the future), and his tail being from the reboot. I am currently working on hands; they're just not ready yet. I'm very excited to see my own personal style being formed. I like all the touches I added and I'm excited to maybe work on some screenshot re-draws and other things like that.

Here are some hand sketches. Hand are EXTREMELY HARD for me so I'm trying to get an idea of what I want to do. I was either thinking of the one on the left (larger fingers, rounder shapes) or the one on the right (more angular, slimmer fingers). Idk, which hand style do yo guys think would work better?

I'm very proud of the progression I made on these designs. I'm currently planning on drawing Brain very soon and I will be doing screenshot re-draws, experimenting with changes to eye shape, and more expressions. I'm also writing still (new fic currently a wip), and I'm very excited to be contributing more to the fandom!! Let me know where I can improve and some tips on how to draw their hands. Also, special thanks to @cosmicangel139 for the drawing tips for Brain!! You are amazing and I will definitely keep those tips in mind!!!!

Otsu Post for my Oreca Battle Session from May 2024-

I made a blog entry for this month's session, because miracle occurs and so many things happened at once, it was one of the most insane session I've ever had since the last time I battled Red Dragon-

I did spent more credits than I usually do for funsies, but my god, what followed after-

For the past few months, I have been going into the arcade to play Oreca, with missions on hand Those missions are,

Get 4★ CuChulainn's item, "Holy Will"

Get 3★ Darkness Magica's item, "Raven Magic Stone"

Hang out at Chapter 6 for a chance to meet Pyramid Head

I don't have much expectation with my luck, so I usually give 3 chances to explore each chapters incase I didn't meet any of the monsters I was aiming for

And guess who I met on my first encounter of the day?

FRIGGIN CUCHULAINN- AND HE GAVE ME "HOLY WILL"-

AFTER SO MANY TRIES AND NOT BEING ABLE TO MEET HIM, HE SHOWS UP ON MY FIRST PLAY-

Finally having one mission crossed off, I thought maybe I could relax a bit, try my luck on the other mission, y'know?

And my second play started WAY TOO INTENSE for my poor mind-

DARKNESS MAGICA SHOWS UP-

AND WITHIN THE INCH OF HIS LIFE, BEELZEBUB CASTED "DEATH" AND EARNED US A VICTORY

AND MY WHITE WHALE, "RAVEN MAGIC STONE" AAAAAAAA---

AFTER TRYING SO MANY TIMES TO MEET HIM AND NIHIL, THEN FIGHTING HIM 2 TIMES AND GOT NO ITEM TWICE AS WELL- AEFKHKDFJHJGVDRTG--

At this point, I grew anxious- I contacted Enzina and talked to her to calm myself down, because this was a barrage of stimulation-

Then I told her, "Yeah, let's take things slow. I might try to get Kurt or Dran for now"

We might have lost the battle, but guess who got commands up and joined the team with rare item???

It have come to my attention that "Evil Shell Sause" is only able to change Azul's card illustration, so yea-

I was drunk on excitement and dehydration I think, lmao-

So yea, with all of this big encounters all happened one after another, I finally took a break because the excitement and rush actually makes my head hurts-

It doesn't help with the fact that Indonesia (and the rest of the SEA countries-) are getting hit by intense heatwave, and how crowded the arcade was that day-

And after the much needed rest, I went back to the arcade and finally took my own advice seriously, "Take things slow"-

And take things slow we did, since searching for Dran and Kurt was a simple task, and Dark Magica with CuChulainn only need to be combined with their item!

With 1 last play in mind, I try my luck once again on Chapter 6, with a team consisting of 2★ Dia, 4★ CuChulainn, and 4★ Culann Cuz y'know, I need to level up Dia too-

And... guess who greeted us, like RIGHT AWAY at the first enemy selection screen?

Yes, that's right, THE MONSTER, THE MYTH, THE LEGEND, THE RARE ENCOUNTER OF CHAPTER 6-

A Wee Bit of Catching Up With This Mess

Soooo originally this was going to be a big post on my main tumblr blog @abyssforphantoms , but I got thinking about it and it just made more sense to make this on it's own blog and repost it over there if I feel like it... instead of spamming my main with this au stuff.

Anyway, Welcome to the mess that is my brain and They Came From The Deep Au. I will not be going too deep into the story in this post, but will do a short summary and explain my prosses behind my decent into madness with the various stuff I have accumulated for it over the year.

Summary:

After the final quest the Abyss Crew was fine. Cannoneer was back, safe with the rest of the crew, and they have gotten what they wanted when they went down to those accursed depths (even though they almost didn't make it back if it weren't for the skykid). So everything should be fine, back to status quo... right?

Well it was for a bit.

Then strange stuff started happening.

Supplies keep disappearing and shifting around the reef. The members of the crew feel like they are being watched from a distance, and the sea almost seems more restless. Every one has a sense of unease...

None more so then Cannoneer,

because of the weird dreams they keep having, and now the crew is saying they did things they didn't do. It was like they were at two places at once.

Then they saw it-them from a distance... they looked almost exactly them! but something was off...

Now it's up to Cannoneer to figure out what is going on, what does this doppelganger (a.k.a Doppelneer or Cannondoppel) want and convince the crew this isn't another one of their "embellished stories".

Meanwhile other things deep down start to stir... and they aren't going to be as "friendly".

And yes Doppelneer will be a big part of this post

"If someone from the Abyss Crew had a doppelganger who would have the most interesting reaction?" (You can guess who I picked lol)

"What if the doppelganger wasn't nessasarly evil but thought they were the person and the person they are a doppelganger of was a doppelganger that took over their life, thus kinda wanting to sabotage the person's life a little?"

January - Inspirational Glitch happened in Sky

Didn't really do to much with the Au for a bit, nor does this really have to deal with the au

But this happened to me one day and thought it was neat yet felt like walking into a sky creepy pasta.

It's the red green visual glitch and the spirit staring glitch with Cannoneer happening at the same time

Oh it was DEFINITELY up my alley, as an (at the very least) above-average obsessed fan of archiving my life's work to the best of my abilities. Geller brings up a really good point I've had to wrestle with, myself: What's the extent to which I can, well, archive?

Lately I've had to omit archiving multiple versions of my art because there's just... so many. Often I found myself erasing old versions just to put new ones in, only occasionally regretting it months or years later. There's some physical doodles I just haven't been able to archive, some that are probably lost forever. Sometimes I go about my day and check Discord only to find something missing I can't quite put my finger on; another server, deleted. How much do I archive of myself? Every word? Every pen stroke? Every conversation? Every thought, every dream, every morsel of food, every footstep, every blink, every fucking breath I've ever taken? Where does it stop?

The answer is it doesn't stop. At least, if you want a full archive of yourself. Different people have focused on different things, yeah. Some make dream journals, others make food diaries, others digitize their notebooks, others have github repositories or the like. But by god, is it hopeless to do everything.

I've tried to back those servers up, but, well... They get updated every day. I can't make backups of every server, every day. Archiving takes time, immense amounts of time, out of my day. Lately, I've been going to class lectures only to spend the time archiving my mind-boggling collection of notebook doodles from high school, for a purpose that isn't really that important right now. I'm not saying it's a universal experience, but to me, the process and goal of archiving puts me violently in the past and violently in the future, and rarely in the present.

I find myself just scrolling through my Everything Drive aimlessly, taking in the same colors I've already looked at for years, and it just feels like... I'm getting nothing new done. And then I continue building up this Everything Drive, for some unforeseeable unattainable "ideal" state that will never happen. I look back and I look forward constantly and sometimes I forget I can just step back and take in the moment as it is, without having to save an audio log of it, without having to record a video of it, without having to be constantly in fear of the decay of my memories. (Note that I have nothing against recording videos of things. I mean, I do that. A lot. That's why I bring it up. It just gets a bit too much after a while. I have 2000 videos and 2000 audio recordings on my phone. I barely ever check them.)

Callie, you probably have a few art pieces that might not be accessible anymore, because you might have put them in a discord server and just... Never kept a copy on your computer. Even for the art you made that is still accessible... How will you even go through the effort of collecting and archiving them, now? I got lucky to start my Everything Drive project relatively "early", in 2020, because Unus Annus scared lil ol me. Even then, I had a lot of work before me. I can't imagine starting that same project now, 3 years later.

On a slightly related note, sometimes a friend's hard drive just gets wiped. Sometimes someone's art hosting site gets taken down. Sometimes there's even something as mundane as someone quickly deleting their discord message as a joke. Things get deleted all the time, outside of my control.

I try to archive as much of myself as possible, but that's basically where I stop. Just myself. I can't archive everyone else to the extent I do for myself. I just hope they get to archive at least a small piece of themselves, their own way.

Back to Geller's video, though. I wanna say, The Internet Archive isn't fully a forever archive. People can try, yeah, and with enough people, something could very well last forever. But with individual items, it's a different story. I used to be very into the Archie Sonic comics, all for one specific character (if you want to know, it's Shard the Metal Sonic). Internet Archive, at that time, had a collection of pretty much every archie sonic comic, neatly organized and easily accessible straight from the website. It was a beautiful thing. Months later, trying to find a panel of a comic to take a screenshot of, I realized the collection had been taken down for copyright reasons. Sure, there's other collections of Archie Sonic comics, but those often fail to capture... Everything. Even the one I was looking at probably failed to capture everything. Some only have the early era of the comics, some only have the comics from Ian Flynn onwards. Some omit the spinoffs, others omit the end pages of the comics with fan mail and whatnot. One collection appears to be the most substantial, but seems to have forgotten a few pages in a few issues. It's just... Impossible, really. To get everything, and make it out in one piece.

I can't capture my paper doodles as accurately as they appear; in the Everything Drive, you zoom in enough, and you see pixels. There aren't pixels in real life. If I were to preserve every page of my high school notebooks, the scale of the collection would become gargantuan and completely inaccessible; just like Borges' map. I don't currently have the resources to download every video I've ever put on youtube or every stream I've done on twitch, and keep them on some external hard drives. I certainly don't have the space or even the time to preserve everything I love, everything I wish could stay just a little bit longer on this Earth. We all have our times to go, and all we can do is move just a few centimeters higher on this sinking ship.

So here I am, carving out my own corner, displaying only a select few categories of what I wish to preserve about myself. And in this corner, I'm happy.

Sorry if this rant is unhinged. I'm not deleting any of it. Guess I'm staying true to this topic, lmao.

I want to end by saying that if anyone wants to scroll through my Everything Drive (a google drive collection of as many digital + physical things ive made as im able to find and archive), I can send you a link! 💙 Blue: What inspires you to finish writing a fanfic, and what makes you quit writing one at any stage in the process?

For Store Playlist, it was the fact that it was part of a big bang and I'd feel gross for not finishing it lol. For Left 2 Chill, it was/is a multi-year labor of love that i wanted to see to the end. And the epilogue will be going up in like 12 days!! So we're nearly there! (Also the deadlines I had in my head of September-October 2023 and April 2024 for a 28 Weeks Later joke/reference kicked my ass into finishing... but good lord i still need to go back and make edits bc spell/grammar check has never been kind to me)

As for what makes me abandon one, the fact of the matter is that I don't seriously start enough fics/story ideas to make them feel.. real?? I've mentioned incomprehensible scribbles in my notes app, which were made either bc I wanted to make a comic for them or just write them down before I forgot them (cough cough royal pains manifesto). So like, it's hard to call them abandoned since they were never really started beyond Vibes (halo au... i can see like three scenes for it and no other story beyond that)

As for actual fics of mine that have been abandoned (one of which has gotten a weird influx of kudos despite not being updated since 2018) were from the era of the infamous Deleted Progress of 2019 from when my old iPod Touch was being a douche about its cloud storage. So many months worth of progress... just gone.. it still makes me sad...

Jeremy and Zoe are generally easy bc they're just like me fr (oddly specific familial trauma what whaaat), but it really depends with other characters. I've done very little writing for characters other than the boyfs outside of l2c (which! I! Want! To! Get! Better! About!) so like.. the au versions of the characters are generally easy for me bc. I invented them for the most part lol

I guess it was harder for me to pin down Rich, since he was a "main cast" character whose head I spent about the least time in (next to Jared, but I've already gone on abt the meta reasoning for not getting in his head much, and writing him was less hard and more mentally taxing bc i kept fussing over potential readers Not Seeing The Vision) mainly bc the other characters had more interesting things to going on to pick apart

Welcome Home: Instruction (??) Update

we're back with another Welcome Home post yay!!! so context for the title, what do i mean by 'instruction'?

a little while ago, after the Halloween update, i checked in on the Welcome Home website to see if the Christmas update has come

it hasnt and there still isnt any Christmassy things on the site bUT it doesnt mean there's nothing new! when i first checked there were 4 instructions left around the site, but since those were the only changes i didnt make a new post

however!! there is now new things regarding those instructions!!! and i will be exploring those today!!! im excited

now before this new update, there were 4 seemingly random instructions left around the site

on the main page in the 'Website Updates' section, was a single sentence "Write Hello."

on Sally's section of The Neighborhood page, there was a sentence above her picture "Reverse this image of Sally."

on the stickers page, there was a sentence above the neighbors section "Write "OK.""

and last but not least, there was a sentence at the very top of The Playfellow Exhibition page "Turn The Playfellow Exhibition upside down."

these were the only changes left on the site, and at first i thought it was something that we, the viewers/audience, were supposed to do

like to turn the exhibition upside down, maybe they meant to access the staff-only version of it? there IS a thing at the bottom of that page that says 'its in here' only for it to lead to nowhere

and maybe we're supposed to write 'hello' and 'ok' on the password entry ? since its the only place where you can write anything on the site (because the guestbook is closed) (i did try that but it didnt work)

and for reversing the image of Sally, some people have tried like, reversing it horizontally or color-reversing it which makes her blue and could be a connection to the possible 'nighttime' version of her

but with this new update!! its clear that the instructions werent meant for us, they were meant for Wally!

it doesnt lead to anything unlike the bug videos or the audio doodles, but still! an interesting revelation that the instructions werent meant for us at all!

I know reading is hard for people, but I don't feel like doodling these scenarios just yet. So, I'm going to type them down and doodle them later when the motivation finally kicks in!

SSS FUTURE AU SENARIOS

One time, Sonar was caught hacking the Castle of Acorn's Security. Praised for the updates and pinpointing flaws in the system, but still grounded for a weekend.

Sombra ended up catching a cold, which surprised his mother and made his father panic (though he won't show it publicly). His friends Sonar and Soul come visit him to keep him company. (I actually wanna doodle this as an comic animatic thing at some point. So no more details till then.)

Historical Legendary Moments: Sonar and Sombra are obsessed by the stories they were told by their parents about their adventures. Soul is quiet at first, but he eventually opens up about how he feels about these Historic Events. (Again, actually wanna draw this at some point.)

The boys learn about the Gems of Unlimited Power that were used by both their parents and the Infamous Dr. Ivo Robotnik. The miracles and destruction these Gems have brought depending on the user intrigues them immensely. (May rough doodle this.)

Now, there are like, big projects I am planning to do with like, making an actual Story. One will involve Time Travel and the other will envolve Dimensional Travel featuring a new OC who is the child of another pairing I love!!

I already have her design together and I can't wait to post her!! For now, I need to get through the Time Travel bit! Don't worry, I will have rules so I don't make the same mistake as 06's writing. I'll also be using some ideas from DBZ as the Abridged version made it much more understandable.

This will also imclued revamping one particular character from a certain game called: Sonic Generations! I just need to ground the design for them as I have a few ideas how they could work!

I also have a fun What If I'm working on involving a certain Dark Alien with major changes and ideas I think could make their inclusion better imo.

Other than that, here we go! Something to appetize those who are interested in my lil AU! I don't need to, but I do feel a bit bad for not posting enough about this AU since a lot of people like it! Heck I love it too! It's fun!

I hate the movie's school uniforms so much. Anything past movie 2 for costumes didn't even try to match the canon. They are also so BORING. Edwardian-lite in the most un-wizardlike colors of grey and black, when canonically, wizards are wearing more colors than a Victorian tripping out on absinthe.

My favorite depiction of the school uniform is done by @thesanityclause here:

They follow the book's description so well! Black robe, pointed wizard hat. They even sketched a version with the cloaks!

@sadfishkid also had some really awesome Hogwarts uniform designs (and wizard clothing in general) but they've appeared to have removed most of their HP fanart and have asked it not be reposted. I always liked their interpretations though.

Is this going to be a very flattering garment for everyone? Not by modern standards and modern silhouettes. I would guess the Hogwarts uniform was established during the 10th century when it was founded. I imagine it's been updated rarely, as it's basic, easy for most students to buy or make (and repair) regardless of income or if they are Muggleborn, and what's become a culturally significant and identifiable uniform.

I’m not completely against the film’s depiction of wizard robes, outside of the school uniform. I understand that to modern-day audiences the kids running around in what would look like dresses would be distracting, possibly even alienating. Concessions were made, the movie's uniform gets the visual message across that the cast is wearing a school uniform. They throw the black outer robe over the top to differentiate it between modern British school uniforms.

I accept this reasoning, I just think it’s BORING.

HP clothing is fun for me to think about because it is basically an alternate universe. What fashion trends and styles would have evolved in a society that didn’t go through the same industrial revolution, or have the same social and political priorities we in the Muggle world had?

Fashion has always been a reflection of people’s economic status and cultural values, so why the hell is everyone in the HP films wearing a Muggle three-piece suit?? You would think after the whole witch-burning crusade and self-imposed isolation, most witches and wizards would go out of their way not to appear Muggle. To them, Muggles are close-minded, afraid of magic instead of impressed, and produce very little of value. Their clothing in the books reflects how even witches and wizards that incorporate more modern or Muggle fashion into their clothing do so in a way that still signals to others that they are magical.

I’m not even against how the film uses the open robe over clothing style. I think that’s very cool and fits well with HP’s established canon depictions of clothing. True, we don’t ever hear of anyone wearing jackets or outer clothing with sleeves (Hagrid is the one I can think of) that isn’t wearing a Muggle-style jumper or coat, but Harry is also very unobservant or interested in spending too much time describing clothing in general during his POV. He will describe the basic shape and color, and that’s generally all we get for most characters (exceptions being someone wearing extravagant like Dumbledore or Fudge, or if it’s on Draco Malfoy.)

For example, check out how rrnchg drew the Hogwarts uniform:

I love this design because it’s still very much identifiable as “wizard” and even Hogwarts, yet it's stylish and just looks really cool.

Personally, when the teachers or adults in HP are described as wearing robes, I imagine they are wearing something like this. Yes, some like Arthur who work in a place where uniforms are required, like the Ministry or St. Mungos, may wear simpler and less layered clothing, but overall I feel there are some basic garments that are standard for adult wizards to wear. Similar to how modern men in Western society wear variations of the basic items such as trousers, a shirt, and coat.

There’s been some really cool interpretations of the uniform that aren’t based on a modern British school uniform. I’m not quite sold on the Hogwarts Legacy versions of the uniform, but I give them points for at least trying to make something original and follows the internal rules of the setting.

I've found a few other designs artists have posted that I can totally see working in a visual medium like film or TV. The essence of the book's description is conveyed, but it let's the costume designer or artist put their own vision and creative signature on the uniform, making it distinct. The ones in the meta you linked I really like, as well as a few other posts people have shared.

I can only dream we might get an updated version of the Hogwarts uniform with the TV show, but I'm not going to hold my breath. Think, for a moment though, what it would be like if the TV costumes went in a direction like this:

I would make the skirt longer, probably below the knee for women and to the floor for men (or end at the knee for men and they wear hose/breeches underneath, similar to a tunic) but I like that it incorporates a more modern silhouette while retaining references to the book’s description of the uniform. Just add a pointed hat and this would fit right in at Hogwarts.

It’s a challenge to find any clothing for HP wizards that doesn’t involve trousers (it’s the trousers, ok!?? They just inherently make anyone wearing them with an outer robe look too modern and Muggle for me. Trousers should be a deliberate choice that reflect the character and how they feel about Muggles, in my opinion.)

I’ve yet to find anything for wizard students that isn’t some form of the movie’s costume, but it’s not been for a lack of trying. It’s hard to find artistic renditions of any wizard (not just in HP) that isn’t wearing some form of trouser lol. We do not like putting the men in dresses, I guess.

Which, again, see my earlier point, is boring to me.

Neither I think. Robes are a distinct type of clothing that are neither a dress or a coat but something else entirely. I think they're more or less like what we see in the movies or like what you see in cultural traditions/time periods where people world long flowing robes. I think as per the books the robes are are a bit more closed up than the movie version because they can be worn as the sole piece of clothing with nothing underneath. There's probably different types in the wizarding world though - due to changing fashion trends. I don't think it looks anything like a frock or that it has a pinafore or stockings or corsets etc. since those things are not mentioned nor are they usually worn with robes.

I think this post has excellent and detailed analysis of what they probably look like and this post is helpful too. (There's another post on this as well which is really good and which I know I've reblogged but for some reason I can't find.)

Everyone is, of course, free to headcanon/draw whatever they like. The movies certainly made alterations for example.

Heyo! Currently on break from socials while I finish up my final semester which includes my senior thesis film but while on Spring Break I found a some draws that never saw the light of day I thought I'd share.

Some got further than others but I'm only sharing those that got further along than just a very rough sketch. Another quick note from 2018-2020 I was mainly doing pokemon related stuff before I shifted my way to Vivz.

2018

Title: Mommy doesn't want you in here

Back then I was really involved in Pokemon Emerald's Battle Frontier and had to grind a lot of the best pokemon to breed. One of the pokemon I breed from was Gardevoir, which swept the floor getting me many of my symbols, and I thought of this very dark situation where a Gardevoir was breeding for the perfect child and that said child wandered into the incubation room finding her imperfect siblings. Pretty much how IV and shinny breeding goes in games. Reason I never finished it is it got too complex for my skill at the time. Wtf is perspective?

2019

This one hurt to scrap after so many hours but I was so unhappy and embarrassed with it. I wanted to make a big draw for Pokemon Sword and Shield but cause I was so focused on making a pretty picture instead of anatomy, composition, and flipping my canvas.

2020

Title: Escort missions

Ok so here's an interesting story behind this. You know how controlling partner pokemon especially escort pokemon in PMD1 sucks? Well I decided to take on a bunch of jobs in Fiery Field where not only has a bunch of traps but also you have to quick save before entering meaning if you mess up you lose everything. This is pretty much what happened. I was almost finished escorting that Surkern, who was pain my ass, where a warp trap happened and everything fell apart. I wanted to throw my DS Lite so bad. Later on decided to vent out my in a comic. However I never finished it cause it got to complex.

One note though this comic is half truthful. I'm the one who fell in the warp trap cause I didn't have that trap ability and that Surkern kept wondering around and ended up in a fight. I ended up deleting that mission cause I was getting paid jack shit.

This was back in Clip Studio announced their subscription for standalone Windows and Mac versions going forward and everyone got pissed off including me. I made a quick comic to vent but later got bored of it.

Soon after the company tried to put out the flames and gave everyone who bought a copy that year a free copy of v2 and a trial for update pass but I still use v1.13.2 copy and sometimes Procreate. The update pass still sounds dumb to me. If you pay for a new major version you should continue to get feature updates until the next major version comes out. That's what Affinity, Toonboom, and Final Draft does. Least they didn't go full out Adobe. Yet...

Back in early 2015 after I adopted Holly I had a simple draw of my at the time main oc riding her in the woods. It aged badly and I wanted to remake it with Saneki instead. 8 years later when I was starting to remake it I needed an idea for a school project and decided to go with it thinking I could knock out 2 birds with one stone. However I had to follow a strict set of rules including a limited color pallete and using Photoshop which I hated. It didn't have the settings or brushes I was used to which lead to this. From that forward I began to hold a grudge against Photoshop like I do with Animate. Someday I would like to take another shot at this without involving Photoshop. -_-

One the bright side I did learn some color theory and perspective tips. ^^

This was my first attempt on Cowgirl Loona before I swapped over from Clip Studio to Procreate and finished it this earlier year. Just wasn't happy with what I was going for and felt like Procreate could get this done better.

I recently decided to can this. I thought of a cute idea of Stella at a hellhorse show but had no idea how I wanted to present it and this is all that came out of it.

And that's pretty much what I feel like showing. Looking back I think it's just more of a lesson in drawing. Not everything turns out the way you want it too. Either you didn't think everything through or just got bored with them and wanted to move on. Sometimes it's not worth putting in more hours in something that isn't going to turn out the way you hoped. But that's no to say everything you do should be scrapped. Sometimes It just needs reworked. Cowgirl Loona and Carousel Alastor went through hell but I got them out cause of the lessons I learned from continuing to draw. But also I want to stop focusing on the little details cause not everyone is going notice. Have you seen the many tangents in my earlier stuff.

ou say that Sol is kinda scruffy and I do think you capture his "so tired he's tattered" vibes in your drawings. That being said, I feel said Sol drawings have a pretty vibe to them too at the same time? Like he's pretty? I'm not even into guys but even I can tell he's a bonafide pretty boy with a stoic yet melancholic expression. *marge voice* I just think it's neato and I can't think of other words aside from your Sols are pretty men.

Hahah thank you so much!!! For the most part, I really like all of Sol’s designs throughout the history of GG, but in some of them he’s definitely got that pretty boy thing going on and I try to channel those drawings in particular when I draw him. I’m gonna stick the ones I reference the most under a readmore down below and you’ll see what I mean.

I LOOOOOOVE drawing long hair with all my heart. The flowing shapes and organic nature of it is very calming to work with. I’d really like to draw Sol without his Gear suppressor some day so I can really go ham with his hair (since even the top is long without the suppressor) but I haven’t thought up a composition I like just yet...

Sol’s XX art from the Accent Core version art update is probably the oldest art I reference for his face. He’s got those iconic eyebags in this art, but the dark lines on the outer parts of his eyes give the impression he’s got some glorious eyelashes too. I’m not actually sure if Daisuke did this art or not. The style is pretty different from how he drew during that era and it’s digital art. But some of his recent art is in this clean cell shaded style so who knows. 

I’m gonna paste the entire image for this because it’s for real one of my favorite official Sol illustrations and I’m GRUMPY that I can’t find a high resolution file of it anywhere. It was done for a GG x Seiko collab where they made Sol themed watches. The watches came with a print of this. Daisuke made Sol exceptionally beautiful in this one for some reason and every day I am grateful. Look at those pretty eyes and voluminous mane.

Last one. This was done for a caption contest for Gemaga magazine in December 2006. It’s in the GGX art book I post scans from but I’m never satisfied with my translation for the caption that goes with it so I’ve never posted it... Daisuke made him really pretty here too, even though it was just a doodle on a piece of card. I like how he’s kinda got cheekbones in this sketch and the shape of his eyes too, even if they don’t have the big eyelashes lol

This was the winning caption and I’m pretty sure he’s saying something like ‘Is there gyuudon/has the gyuudon come back [in stock]’ but I’m REALLY BAD at reading hand written Japanese ahh........ Gyuudon is a rice and beef bowl.
