I'm amped about this so I'm not putting it behind a cut.

Went into the thrift store across the street at about 1:30, thinking I'd pick up maybe one (1) item for five or ten dollars. I got back at 4, did a bunch of research and mental math, and realized I spent $99 on ALMOST NINE HUNDRED DOLLARS worth of stuff. including an out of print tarot deck I've been pining over for more than a decade.

The Haul:

a pair of black linen pants

a pair of purple plaid flannel pants

a nice table runner in white and gold, handmade.

two t shirts and three dress shirts

two cookbooks that were mainstays in my mom's kitchen, both first editions, 30 and 50 years old.

a very clean copy of Alison Bechdel's Fun Home.

Mirrors of the Soul by Kahlil Gibran, 1965 hardcover

a huge hand blown glass vase in metallic turquoise and gold glaze

a plant mister, two basil growing kits, and two sunflower growing kits.

A gallon glass drink jug with spigot, so i can keep track of how much water I'm drinking without letting an impossible-to-clean plastic water bottle get all grimy.

An 11x14 picture frame, still shrink wrapped.

a handsome bamboo cookbook stand, for my growing cookbook collection.

a singing bowl, sans mallet, yellow enamel on brass, with the third chakra etched on three sides and the bottom. Plays a clean E5 over A2 when tapped with a fingernail. Found one just like it on Etsy for $50, paid $4.

a slightly broken electronic cat toy that waves a butterfly around on a wire. USB rechargeable, easy to fix. Both cats agree this thing is The Fucking Best, which has never happened before. (Hazel poked at it for a few minutes straight, which is unusual for her, and Phoebe has been quietly playing with it for two solid hours at this point.)

My pride and joy, the best thing I've ever thrifted: Ed Buryn's first edition William Blake Tarot, 1995, SIGNED. The guidebook alone, unsigned, has been out of print for years, and it's worth a cool $100 on its own. Signed, with a full deck of the original cards, even with considerable wear and tear on the box, it's probably worth at least $200. Fucking SCORE.

Bonus: I ran into Bill Cypher among the picture frames. I said aloud "Hello, sir. I don't go here, so I'll leave you to jumpscare another local nerd. Have a nice day."

I feel like I need someone to talk about the rapline right now. Like Jimin is my bias and on the whole (what I managed to see), the concert was definitely one of their best and all the ot7 songs were amazing (the ending made me cry so hard). But damn, rapline really came and collected today. Especially with cypher. I honestly don't even have proper words. I'm just mildly scared for when Yoongi and Namjoon drop their albums. Also jhope has gained this glow ever since his solo and lolla happened and it really looked like he took what he got from performing solo and amped it up tenfold in this one. The whole concert felt like it had a little bit of Hobi's lolla performance sprinkled in and I loved it. They really put their all into this concert and it showed. I don't think I have a point in this other than just trying to put in words the awe I have for all of the seven guys and their ability to captivate us.

WOAH. OK.

So to be honest, when I first watched this finale cutscene of the DLC in English, I immediately felt as if it was...underwhelming. It was cool! But still underwhelming. There was something about Roger Craig Smith's delivery that felt lacking in the moment, a jarring contrast to the intensity of the scene itself through the combination of the music and the animations of Sonic going Cypher (?).

JUNICHI KANEMARU'S DELIVERY THOUGH....I'm sorry but he killed it. I immediately got gut-punched. Sonic screaming having a longer duration does help first of all, as he going on to spasm like he's lost control of his body but being silent all the while feels awkward to me. I'm not sure how Smith was tasked with handling this scene, if they maybe had him yell for longer yet cut it down for some reason?? But Kanemaru's voice work alongside the animations of Sonic within the cannon is just so visceral imo, overall much more than Smith's.

In the JPN cutscene you really get the impression that Sonic's enduring a lot of pain, probably the MOST pain we've seen him verbally express in the games iirc (including his early Werehog transformations in Unleashed, and his transformation into Darkspine in Secret Rings), which isn't even a common occurrence to begin with.

That in turn amps up the scene itself. This fight against The End was a dire situation, and you feel like Sonic is truly putting his all into this final attack; no matter how physically agonizing it is for him. Elevates the scene's impact a lot.

This second screencap is when the weird just amped-up. What had been a blank profile was suddenly filled with garbled data, and this image was posted showing... well, another tunnel, we guessed. It had similarity to the earlier video, only this time it was a still image. Around this time I also received an odd direct message (others who I was talking to about the account also got it):

We figured it was more randomness, like the data in the account profile, but a few months later the drummer for this band I used to run lighting for figured out that it was a cypher. I'll post a spoiler later, for now it's more fun to let ya'll stew about it like we did.

A couple other things that jumped out about this: there's some kind of profile picture, hard to make anything out. It gave me then (and still does) some 2001: A Space Odyssey/HAL 9000 vibes.

And then there's that... appendage? Antenna? That sliver of a thing with the light on the end, sliding in from outside the frame. First indication we got that someone was behind the lens. At this point we were still convinced this was a new Bethesda came coming out, maybe some kind of sci-fi FPS like Doom.
