delightful that the #1 ship for this show on ao3 is bobbie/avasarala, appalling that (based on an admittedly very cursory initial review) there appears to be zero fic where naomi and holden double-team miller and make him cry sexually
#respectable amount of amos/prax though so that's also good#I'm a little surprised there's not more fic (<1000 for the show and 300 for the books)#but possibly spending a few years in a juggernaut ship in a megafandom has spoiled me somewhat#the expanse#being fandom#jules.txt

Amos, Sarah, and Gene - 9:42 P.M.
“Wh...where am I?” The voice of a man spoke out suddenly.
“Hey, welcome back to the land of the living. You’ve been revived by our friendly neighborhood necromancer. I’m Oz, I’m here to help. Oz held out his hand to the newly awakened man. “What’s your name?” The man took his hand and shook it, dazedly looking around at the place.
“I’m Amos…” He suddenly snapped back to his senses. “Sarah! My daughter! Is she--”
“She’s safe, yeah! Right behind you.” Amos snapped back and saw Sarah sleeping peacefully. Tears blotted his eyes.
“Oh my god...my daughter, she’s...she’s okay.” He bent down and pat her head gently, smoothing out her hair. “Sarah, my little angel…I’m so sorry…” Oz let them have some space, rushing to the little table of noodles to get a few bowls ready.
“Hey, take your time, man. I’ve got food and drinks here if you two are hungry or thirsty.”
“Thank you…” Amos looked over his shoulder to Oz. “Thank you so much.” He returned to his daughter as Emily walked up to him and handed him a blanket. He wrapped Sarah up in it, and she only shifted a bit in her sleep. When Amos left a little kiss on her head she smiled and snuggled up to the blanket.
“Terrible that little kids were caught up in this mess too,” said Mick from the back. Amos looked back.
“Mick?”
“Yup. Everyone except the assholes and the genuinely good people made it out.” Mick smirked and nodded his head in acknowledgement. Amos looked to his sleeping daughter and then back to Mick. He smiled, letting out a sigh of relief and untensing himself. His shoulders slumped down and he gently picked up Sarah, getting up and walking over to sit by the Sheriff.
“Hey, food would sound good,” he said to Oz. “Thank you.” Oz drifted over once he had gotten settled down and held out a bowl happily.
“Gotcha.”
After Amos and his daughter got settled down, everyone went back to their normal drive again, another voice being added to the normal hum of chatter.
Soon enough, however, Oz picked up on another voice, a sleepy “mmm” mumbling to themselves as they shifted around. He froze and listened closely to the voice. It was definitely one he recognized.
He zipped over to the sleeping others immediately, and hovered a few feet over Gene. He was stirring, rubbing his eyes and leaning on his good arm. The other arm was good as well, of course, but he was almost afraid of straining it after what had happened to it. Oz covered his mouth with his hands and slowly floated down to Gene’s level. Rascal turned his head, noticing his sudden movement.
“Hey, Gene’s awake,” he said, and immediately half the others perked up. Rascal, Clive, and Emily cautiously drew in closer as Gene sat himself up, yawning.
When he opened up his drowsy eyes and saw Oz standing before him, he smiled warmly.
“Hello, there,” he said in a quiet, strained voice, yet one that most obviously belonged to him.
“H...Hi, Geno,” Oz replied just as quietly, his voice lilting in a little laugh. Gene shut his eyes and shook his head gently, chuckling to himself as he opened up his arms. At this Oz immediately lunged into his arms, hugging him tight and swinging him around happily as they whisked up into the air. Gene held on tight, beaming, Oz laughing merrily.
“God, I missed these hugs,” Gene said as he stopped swinging him around, holding onto him tight.
“I missed you! So much, Gene! I was afraid I wouldn’t get another chance to see you again!” Oz gave him multiple kisses all over his face, drifting down closer to the floor as Gene giggled and blushed, playfully nudging him away.
“Aw, stop it, you.” He nuzzled into him happily.
“But it’s true, Gene! We all missed you so much…” Oz held him close, taking in his presence thankfully. Gene lifted his head to look at everyone else. Curious eyes gazed upon them, waiting for the right moment to speak. Clive was the first to start approaching again.
“Ah, hello, Clive.” Gene’s voice couldn’t get louder than a soft mumble, but Clive felt happiness brew in him as he heard it. Gene held out an arm as best as he could and Clive joined in on the hug. Rascal went up and made it a group hug.
“Don’t worry, you three, I’m not going anywhere,” Gene laughed. “I promise. And this time, I’ll keep it.”
Buggy watched on silently, sitting by his still sleeping lover. He glanced down to Apoccy and squeezed his hand, only to come to no response. He looked back up to Gene. The doctor caught his eyes and smiled. In reply, Buggy sheepishly lifted a hand and waved to him, and the doctor waved back.
“Welcome back, Gene,” he said.
“Thank you,” Gene mouthed.

Vintage Shows to Watch While You Wait for the Next Episode of WandaVision - The 70s
So Friday has come upon us again and I’m still playing catch up. I’m going to spit out the list for episode 3 before watching episode 4.
1. The Monkees (1966 - 1968)
Ok, so I was real torn on the placement of this show. It’s clearly a 60s show, but the song “Daydream Believer” plays at the end of episode three giving this series a more direct link to Wandavision than most others. In the end it went here cause the 60s list was already over stuffed.
But oh how I loved the Monkees growing up. You can keep the Beetles, these were the real hotties of the 60s. Yeah they didn’t play their own instruments, but who cares, the music still sounded great and the tv show was a hilarious off the wall surreal fever dream.
2. The Brady Bunch (1969 - 1974)
Often considered the last of the classic family sitcoms, The Brady Bunch, is heavily refenced in episode 3. Right down to the house Wanda and Vision are living in.
The main gimmick of the series was of a blended family trying to learn to live together. It has over time gained a cult following and a spin off series in the 80s called The Brady Brides. (which is even funnier imho)
3. Night Gallery (1970-1973)
Rod Sterling’s spiritual sequel to the Twilight Zone. Night Gallery follows a similar format but is firmly in the horror camp as oppose the to sic-fi trappings of the latter.
4. The Mary Tyler Moore Show (1970 - 1977)
Elizbeth Olsen took great inspiration for Wanda’s character from Mary Tyler Moore and the episode three titles pay homage to this series opening credits. Other then that though there’s not much in common with Wandavision as the series is about a single woman and is firmly an office comedy not a family sitcom.
5. The Partridge Family (1970 - 1974)
The only real competitors to The Brady Bunch at the time was The Partridge Family. A music loving family that becomes a a hot band sensation over night. The series focus on juggling show business with normal small town life.
6. Good Times (1974 - 1979)
Arguably the first real family sitcom to feature an all back cast, Good Times is ironically a spin-off of a spin-off. First of the sitcom Maude which is itself a spin-off of All in the Family, a series which we will talk about later on. This series however focuses on the Evans family and their three teenaged children growing up in inner-city Chicago. The series is more topical and satirical then some of the other family sitcoms on this list but still very much following the family sitcom formula.
7. Happy Days (1974 - 1984)
Happy Days is a juggernaut cultural phenomenon that popularized coming of age sitcoms and , in the case of Wandavision, the trend of setting sitcoms in the past. The story focuses on teenaged Richie Cunningham as he tries to figure out life and growing up in 1950s America. The show lasted for a decade and spawned five spin offs, including the successful Laverne & Shirley and another series that’s on this list.
8.The Jeffersons (1975 - 1985)
“We’re moving on up!”
In honor of Geraldine/Monica landing a promotion this episode lets look at The Jeffersons. Another spin-off of All in the Family (we’re getting to it, honest) The Jeffersons took the bold move of showing a wealthy black family on American televisions. Proving that indeed tv was ‘moving on up’ from it’s measly Amos n’ Andy days.
9. Wonder Woman (1976 - 1979)
Time for the ladies to shine as well. Now there were other superhero shows on at the time, most notably Shazam, The Secrets of Isis, and The Bionic Woman, but it is the first lady of comics who has left the greatest cultural impact on society today.
10. Mork and Mindy (1978 - 1982)
One of the many spin-offs of Happy Days, Mork and Mindy is a return to the quirky fantasy sitcoms of the 60s. It’s basically the plot of My Favorite Martian but with an added will they/won’t they love affair with two best friends. It’s also ten times funnier cause it stars the late, great Robin Williams in his first break out role.
Runner Ups
Now here’s a bunch of 70s shows to check out even tho they have little to do with Wandavision.
Dark Shadows (1966 - 1971)
My mother was aghast that I didn’t include this in the 60s list cause it was her favorite show growing up. It’s a soap opera with vampires and other classic horror monsters. Well, it went into the 70s so I guess we can put it here.
The Odd Couple (1970 - 1975)
Based off both a successful stage play and later movie, The Odd Couple is about two devoiced guys rooming with each other to make ends meet. Now say it with me, “Oh my gosh, and they were roommates!”
All in the Family (1971 - 1979)
All in the Family is like the I Love Lucy or Honneymooners of its day. The series perfected and popularized the dysfunctional family trope and catapulted the formula for satire sitcoms that is still in use today with the likes of the Simpsons and King of the Hill. However it’s often mean spirited humor has little to do with Wanda’s idyllic fantasy world.
Sanford in Son (1972 - 1977)
Another early satirical sitcom with a hilariously awful father, this time featuring a mostly black cast.
The Bob Newhart Show (1972 - 1977)
Kind of like the spiritual successor to The Dick Van Dyke Show, but with less physical comedy and more quips.
MASH (1972 - 1983)
Yeah, a dark comedy about the horrors of the Korean War has nothing to do with Wandavision but still worth a watch as it’s very powerful.
Mama's Family (1974 - 1984)
The first redneck sitcom since the cancelation of Rural-verse. However this series has a more satirical bite than those shows. Getting it’s start on the Carol Burnette Show the skit about a grouchy old southern matriarch found its way to audiences televisions as it’s own hilarious half hour comedy.
And there’s loads more I could recommend but I’m going to cut things off here to save on time and possibly those later shows will make it on to the 80s list as they’re very late 70s/early 80s.

FALL PREVIEW ‘53
September 18, 1953
On September 18, 1953, TV Guide, now a national publication, published their first Fall Preview issue. This became an annual and much anticipated tradition with the magazine. Although TV Guide national edition was only 25 issues old, Lucille Ball had already been featured on three covers and would go on to be seen on 36 more.
TV Guide (volume 1, number 25) hit news stands on September 18, 1953. It provided television listings for programs from September 18 to 24, 1953.
The editorial content of the issue was broken down by genre. Naturally, Lucille Ball and “I Love Lucy” headed up the “Situation Comedy” section.
“Almost entirely responsible for laughs springing from situations instead of gags is, of course, the fantastically successful ‘I Love Lucy’, a show about which very little remains to be said. Since its debut in late 1951, ‘Lucy’ has run up increasingly astonishing ratings and there’s no end in sight. The marital misadventures of Mr. and Mrs. Ricardo as portrayed by Desi Arnaz and Lucille Ball provide no end of joy to TV fans and as a result the entire TV comedy scene has been reshaped.”
In 1953, “I Love Lucy” did not return to the airwaves until October 5th, kicking off their third season with “Ricky’s Life Story” (ILL S3;E1), an episode filmed in May 1953. T
he day before this issue hit the stands, the series filmed “Lucy and Ethel Buy the Same Dress” (ILL S3;E3), which aired on October 19, 1953. Lucy and Desi were still dealing with her being accused of being a communist a week earlier.
Although the Arnaz Family loved to get away to Hawaii, they could not have spent a month there from September 15, 1953. They filmed “Lucy and Ethel Buy The Same Dress” on September 17th and “Equal Rights” on September 24th. The TV Teletype (Hollywood) was complied by Dan Jenkins. The reporter’s name was given to the used furniture salesman played by Hans Conried in “Redecorating” in 1952.
The article on Comedy goes on to discuss returning shows like “Our Miss Brooks,” “My Friend Irma,” “My Little Margie,” “I Married Joan,” “Mr. Peepers,” “Ozzie and Harriet,” “Ethel and Albert,” “Life of Riley,” “Amos ‘n’ Andy” and “A Date With Judy.”
Comedy Newcomers for 1953...
“My Favorite Husband” based on Lucille Ball’s hit radio show. Lucy’s role is now taken by Joan Caulfield. The CBS sitcom lasted until 1955.
“Meet Mr. McNutley” aka “The Ray Milland Show.” It lasted two season on CBS.
“Life With Danny” later retitled “Make Room for Daddy” and then “The Danny Thomas Show.” The show became a juggernaut lasting until 1965 and launching several sequels and spin-offs, including “The Andy Griffith Show.” Thomas was inspired by Desi Arnaz to use a multi-camera film shoot and filmed the show at Desilu. In 1958, the series moved to CBS and did a cross-over with “The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour” to mark the shift in networks.
“Pride of the Family” starring Paul Hartman and Fay Wray and Natalie Wood in her only regular TV series. The ABC show lasted only one season.
“Bonino” starring opera singer Ezio Pinza and Mary Wickes as his housekeeper. The comedy lasted only six episodes on NBC.
“Jamie” starring Oscar-nominated and Golden Globe-winning child actor Brandon De Wilde (Shane). ABC canceled the series two episodes into the second season because of a business dispute with its show's sponsor.
“Marge and Jeff” was a nightly 15-minute sitcom from the DuMont Television Network featuring Marge Greene (who also wrote the episodes) and Jess Cain as newlyweds living in New York City. It ran 27 episodes.
“Topper” was about an uptight banker, Cosmo Topper, and the ghosts that only he could see or hear, George and Marion Kerby. Based on the hit film of 1937, the series ran two seasons on CBS.
“Life With Father” was based on the long-running Broadway play and hit film of 1947, this sitcom debuted on CBS and lasted until July 1955. It focused on the lives of the Day family in 1880s New York. Viewers had trouble keeping track of the numerous cast changes with the children (one son was played by three different actors). Despite being seen in black and white by most viewers, this live series was actually broadcast in color beginning in September 1954, the first such show produced in Hollywood.
“Private Secretary” was a mid-season replacement that started airing in February 1953, so not technically a ‘new’ comedy. The show featured Lucy’s friend Ann Sothern as Susie McNamara, private secretary. It was filmed at General Service Studios, just like “I Love Lucy.” When the series was mired in contract disputes and reformatted as “The Ann Sothern Show,” Desilu entered the picture as producer. Interestingly, the September 20, 1953 episode concerned Susie wanting a trip to Havana, Cuba.
The very first episode of “The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour” in 1957 depicted Susie MacNamara and her fellow private secretary Lucy McGillicuddy on a 1940 cruise to Havana, where Lucy meets her future husband, Ricky Ricardo! Lucy Ricardo also turned up on “The Ann Sothern Show” where Ann played Katie O’Connor. The upshot is that both Susie and Katie lived in the same world as Lucy Ricardo!

Soundtrack of my life ...
the ten bands and recording artists that have most influenced me, my life and everything about me ...
(as usual, in no particular order)
TOOL
fave tracks: Forty Six & Two, Ænema, Stinkfist, Schism, The Grudge, Lateralus, Reflection, The Pot, Right In Two, Vicarious, Jambi, Rosetta Stoned
fave album: Lateralus
exquisite complexity in musical form, truly epic soundscapes and a pulsing, building intensity of sound. NOBODY does opening tracks better than these guys.
NINE INCH NAILS
fave tracks: Wish, Closer, Happiness in Slavery, the Perfect Drug, Gave Up, Head Like a Hole, Survivalism, Less Than, The Hand That Feeds, Just Like You Imagined, The Hand That Feeds
fave album: Broken (technically an EP, but still ...)
Trent Reznor is a genius. Discordant soundscapes and tortured vocals, an almost painful industrialized percussive pulse and moments of sudden, unexpected beauty. There’s a reason his music gets used SO MUCH in trailers ...
QUEEN
fave tracks: (too many to name, but most of all ...) Brighton Rock, One Vision, Who Wants to Live Forever?, Innuendo, Seven Seas of Rhye, Is This the World We Created?, Under Pressure, Radio Ga Ga and, of course, Bohemian Rhapsody
fave album: A Night at the Opera (and also Sheer Heart Attack)
Quite simply they were the best band in the world. EVER.
MUSE
fave tracks: Sing for Absolution, Map of the Problematique, Plug In Baby, Citizen Erased, Dead Inside, Time Is Running Out, Knights of Cydonia, Hysteria, Butterflies & Hurricanes, Reapers, Sunburn, Uno, Thought Contagion, Get Up & Fight
fave album: Black Holes & Revelations
An ever evolving epic sound, compellingly powered by Matt Bellamy’s devastating voice and ridiculous talents with guitar and piano.
TORI AMOS
fave tracks: Cornflake Girl, Space Dog, Pretty Good Year, Caught a Lite Sneeze, Father Lucifer, Talula, Spark, Northern Lad, Cruel, Carbon, Scarlet’s Walk, Bouncing Off Clouds, Roosterspur Bridge, Programmable Soda, Beauty of Speed
fave album: Under the Pink
my first real musical crush, with an amazing voice which is by turns seductively breathy and thoroughly soul-piercing, whose piano skills are without compare.
FLORENCE + THE MACHINE
fave tracks: Rabbit Heart (Raise it Up), Cosmic Love, Between Two Lungs, Bird Song, Seven Devils, No Light, No Light, Never Let Me Go, Spectrum, Breath of Life, Queen of Peace, Ship to Wreck, Third Eye, St. Jude, Conductor, The End of Love, Grace, Sky Full of Song, No Choir, Wish That You Were Here
fave album: Ceremonials
for me, Tori’s natural successor, with one of the greatest voices I have EVER heard. Haunting vocals and an exquisitely symphonic sound of incredible richness. Florence Welch is a goddess.
THE CURE
fave tracks: From the Edge of the Deep Green Sea, Inbetween Days, Just Like Heaven, Lullaby, Pictures of You, Disintegration, Cut Here, Dredd Song, Burn, A Forest, Boys Don’t Cry, The Walk, Love Cats, Close To Me, A Night Like This
fave album: it’s between Disintegration and Wish
my introduction to alternative rock and goth music in particular, a truly awesome band who continue to be awesome regardless of how long they’ve been going, and this band is as old as I am! Robert Smith is a LEGEND, one of my genuine, bona fide IDOLS.
METALLICA
fave tracks: For Whom the Bell Tolls, The Thing That Should Not Be, Orion, Welcome Home (Sanitarium), Master of Puppets, One, The Unforgiven, Of Wolf & Man, Sad But True, Wherever I May Roam, Nothing Else Matters, Hero of the Day, Mama Said, Until It Sleeps, The Outlaw Torn, The Unforgiven II, Turn the Page, Hardwired, Atlas, Rise!
fave album: Master of Puppets (the first album I ever bought!)
the band that first got me into metal, and for me still THE BEST metal band around. At their best when they’re HEAVY, an unstoppable juggernaut of pounding drums, chugging power chords, to-die-for solos and James Hetfield’s incomparable voice.
LINKIN PARK
fave tracks: In the End, Crawling, Runaway, Pushing Me Away, Numb, Breaking the Habit, Figure.09, Somewhere I Belong, Nobody’s Listening, Leave Out All the Rest, No More Sorrow, The Little Things Give You Away, The Catalyst, Iridescent, Waiting for the End, Castle of Glass, Powerless, Roads Untraveled, Burn it Down, Lost in the Echo, Until It’s Gone, Heavy, Battle Symphony, One More Light
fave album: Meteora
they may have started out as the definitive nu metal band, but I’ve loved them in EVERY iteration of their ever-evolving sound, from raw, savage power to pure, transcendent simplicity. Mike Shinoda is a musical genius, and Chester Bennington was a magnificent talent who was taken from us far too soon ...
BIFFY CLYRO
fave tracks: Folding Stars, Semi-Mental, Machines, The Conversation Is..., Living is a Problem Because Everything Dies, Now I’m Everyone, Mountains, Many of Horror, The Captain, Booooom, Blast & Ruin, Know Your Quarry, Bubbles, Shock Shock, Stingin’ Belle, Victory Over the Sun, Biblical, Picture a Knife Fight, Spanish Radio, Skylight, Sounds Like Balloons, Howl, Wolves of Winter, Don’t, Won’t, Can’t, Re-Arrange, Flammable, Friends & Enemies, Animal Style, Different Kind of Love, Colour Wheel, All Singing & All Dancing, Tunnels & Trees, The Naturals, Fever Dream, Balance Not Symmetry
fave album: Opposites
last but MOST CERTAINLY in no way least, in my opinion quite simply THE BEST BAND to ever come out of Scotland, a trio of musical maniacs who are never anything less than thoroughly surprising and always original. Seriously, there’s no other band like them out there, and I love them for it. Probably my favourite alt rock band of all time ...
honourable mentions: Funeral For a Friend, PVRIS, My Chemical Romance, Big Country, Sara Bareilles, a Perfect Circle, Witterquick, Don Broco, Smashing Pumpkins, Fightstar, Tonight Alive, The Killers, Pearl Jam, Idlewild, Editors, Fall Out Boy, Genesis, 30 Seconds to Mars, David Gilmour, U2

juggernaut epilogues, aka me rambling about how the other neighboring towns and survivors fare after the event
- In Danvers, Lydia and her team work together to rebuild the town, and have been a bit successful, but there’s still work to do. Luckily she’s escalated from a news reporter to a bit of a figure of authority, but it’ll take work to get this town back into shape. Lydia is also a witch, although she’s honestly only interested in using her powers for peacekeeping now. She’s grown a lot ever since Salem Village, much like everyone else from the town.
- Emily visited Danvers once more and saw it had calmed down a bit, but it still partook in some aort of murder trials, so she dipped. She’s a bit of a wanderer, travellig around and not staying in one place for too long. She doesn’t go near Salem i fear of being trapped there. She visited Rascal down in Plymouth and they hit it off. She developed a liking for the town and decided to set up camp in Plymouth for the time being. She likes how peaceful the town is.
- Mick came home to his wife who had thought him dead for like 3 years or so. Tearful reunions were had and luckiy they’re still together. The couple took in Amos and Sarah until they could get themselves a nice place to live, but they’re pretty close friends so they do fine together. Sarah is babey. The police department was glad to have their top Sheriff back and threw a little party to celebrate him coming back. They’re not used to magic being a thing that exists, so hearing their Sheriff was revived and monsters exist kind of opened their minds a bit.
- Salem was kind of restored back to its former state— some houses are still being fixed up, but Juggernaut, Mendel, Mari and Buggy are working on getting it done day by day together along with any volunteers that arise. The town’s a bit shaken up but otherwise fine, the new Juggernaut was eventually accepted into the town. Ophelia moved to another nearby town along with the Poisoner, Cherry. They’re slowly gathering more people. (Aka eventually ill make more coven members.) Mendel and Mari are kind of platonic parents to their hellish Juggernaut kid. With Ophelia leaving, she said Mendel could own a snake. So he did.
He’s stuck on a name for him, so he hasn’t gotten him yet. But he knows exactly what snake he wants. He love snakey

I love that Amos calls out Holden, during the unraveling. Because Holden didn’t stop him when he attacked the chicken guy. And Amos saw that clearly as a symptom that Holden is not okay. So, he initiated a conversation about it.
When Amos initiates a conversation about emotions:
1) it’s serious
2) he really cares about that person
Because Amos usually abdicates complex emotional decision making. He doesn’t worry about things. He’s one & done and moves on. So, when he does engage and start a conversation it’s very significant. Because typically he has the “check please” attitude.
Holden: *slowly unravels over the course of several episodes, focussed VERY CLEARLY on the Protomolecule*

Finale - 11:13 P.M.
The Juggernaut, now stabilized and happy, followed Mendel and Mari into the study, where they would be resting for the night. Clive helped the two move out the big table and few chairs into the main room to allow for the Juggernaut to rest comfortably surrounded in bookshelves. The fusion watched carefully, every now and then wandering off but being told to go back and sit tight where they were by the two Coven members. Finally, once the space was clear, Mendel brought over some pillows and two blankets and set them both down in a little bed area.
“Alright, Jugg. I know you’re excited and ready for anything right now, but we need to sleep tonight, okay? If you could do me a favor and try to get some rest that would be nice,” spoke Mendel, looking up at the Juggernaut. “Tomorrow we must get everyone settled and keep you in the throne room, for your safety. You’ll be able to roam freely in...a bit. You understand why, right?” Both of the Juggernaut’s heads nodded.
“I dunno how long it’s gonna be,” added Mari, “but I’ll make an announcement tomorrow when everyone’s awake and going back to their own homes.”
“Okay. Thank you.” Mendel glanced back to the Juggernaut. “Well, lie down, then. Get comfortable.” The Juggernaut hesitated before crawling down into the blankets, shifting and tossing around until it was comfortable, curled up on the carpeted floor.
“We’ve gotta get them a bed eventually. They can live over here in the Coven base,” said Mari.
“Well...if we keep the base, that is,” Mendel sighed.
“...Mendel, once you’re done here, we need to talk about that. It’s good news.” Mari smiled and turned to leave. “I’ll let you tuck your sons in goodnight. Meet me in the main room when you’re done.” Mendel stared after her, a bit confused, but shook it off quickly. He crouched down to the Juggernaut.
“I guess I am doing this now,” he chuckled, taking the end of a blanket and tucking it over the Juggernaut. The eyes on its chest area shut, but the ones over its face remained open, looking up at Mendel curiously. “Goodnight, Jugg. May you rest well.” He pat both of the Juggernaut’s heads. Some of their eyes shut as they received the pats, some merely looked off to the side. After a couple seconds Mendel leaned over and left a goodnight kiss on both of their foreheads, patting them once more before standing again. They smiled toothily, eyes all shutting as they shifted to sleep on their side.
Mendel looked back to Clive, who was watching from the doorway. He sighed and smiled.
“And I suppose you are waiting for?”
“Well...I would stay here and be tucked in and all…” Clive held his hands behind his back, kicking his leg forwards. “...Okay, I really would. But Atari told me they’re coming for us tonight. So I guess that means I can’t really...stay here…”
“Who says you cannot just rest here until they arrive? I...must admit that I do not know much of how it all works, but you and everyone else here can sleep until their time to go home comes.” Mendel glanced back to the Juggernaut, making sure everything’s alright, before heading over to Clive. “Here, we should go down to the lab really quick. Make sure everything is alright, get you asleep.” As they stepped out of the study, Mendel called out to Mari, “Stay with the Juggernaut for a bit while I take Clive downstairs, please!” Mari nodded and flew over.
Downstairs in the lab, everyone was fast asleep in the dark. Mendel made sure not to step on someone as he silently made his way down with Clive.
“Alright, get settled,” he whispered, picking up some unused blankets and a pillow for him on the way. Once Clive was sat down, Mendel set down the pillow behind him and draped the blanket over him. “Get down and go to sleep, I assume Atari will be here for you all soon.” Clive curled up and got snuggled up in the little space, placing his glasses in his jacket pocket and smiling as he finally got comfortable. He opened and eye and looked up to Mendel.
“Well?” he said quietly. Mendel stifled a laugh.
“Are you serious?” He asked, to which Clive nodded firmly.
“I’ve never been more serious in my life, Mendel.” Mendel shook his head gently as he pulled the blanket over Clive, too, giving him a little pat on the head.
“Now go to bed, and I am not getting you a glass of milk or anything like that.”
“That’s okay.” Clive smiled happily and was cozy under the blanket. “Night night, Mendel. Thank you.” Mendel nodded and gave him a brief thumbs up before making his way back upstairs.
“Mendel,” whisper-yelled Mari from the doorway of the study. Mendel perked up. The potion master motioned to him to come over, moving over to the main room. “I’ve got you good news.”
“Tell me.”
“Ophelia says we can stay here, in this town, in this lab, if we need to. We’re going to outsource.”
Mendel’s eyes lit up. “Really? I...I get to keep my lab?” “Yes!’ Mari grinned. “She’s going out tomorrow to look for the rest of the Coven, and once she finds them they’re going out to find some new place to set up camp. They’re gonna stay there and gather members there, and we stay here and stay on the down-low. Once the coast is clear here, everyone from there is coming over here, and we can get back into the usual swing of things.”
“That...That is great, Mari! That is really great news!” Mendel smiled wide, fidgeting with his hands happily. “So I can stay here and care for the Juggernaut, and clean up the town a bit, and you...are you staying as well?”
“You bet, pal.”
“Oh, thank goodness.” Mendel laughed. “Did you talk her into this?”
“Well, I guess you could say I am a rather...persuasive person.” Mari looked to the side and held up an okay sign.
“I cannot express how much I owe you for this. Thank you, Mari.”
“Hey, it’s no biggie. Just wait until I convince her into letting you keep a snake.”
“...Will you really do that for me?”
“Hell yeah I will.”
Mendel hugged Mari, thanking her kindly, Mari giggling and repeating, “it’s no problem, it’s no problem.” The night dragged on, and soon the two fell asleep in the study, watching over the Juggernaut but soon becoming drowsy listening to their steady breathing. The town quieted down and had a peaceful, silent night, the first one they have had in ages.
Further up north, a ghost traveled alone, quickly darting his way through the forest and back to the Coven’s base, having dropped off everyone safe and soundly at the train station. He was alone, but in his mind he was comforted knowing Gene would be back at the base, sleeping soundly, waiting for his arrival. He continued on, jacket billowing behind him as he flew.
Seated in the train heading to its different stops around Massachusetts were the survivors who managed to escape Salem’s magical border, happy and resting. Rascal sat next to his backpack with Milky on his lap, petting her subconsciously as he talked with Emily, the Survivor from Danvers. They exchanged small talks that soon delved into talking about their towns, their favorite animals, their hobbies, and soon enough, manga they’ve read throughout their lives. On the other end of the train car, Mick and Amos were seated and sleeping with their heads leaned onto the seat, Sarah curled up and sprawled over the two. They had become friends during their time inside the Juggernaut, and deep inside, the Trapper was excited to get out of the town and give his daughter a safer life, a home free from murder, and the Sheriff was eager to go back home to his wife and police crew, who had thought him dead for the past year or so. Just hearing the happiness in his wife’s voice as she heard him speak once more had filled him with hope.
The train’s lights were dimmed and the air was alive with the gentle mumble of the multiple other people riding with them. For one more time, they felt as if they weren’t alone, they felt as if they were safe and going home at last.
Soon enough, a small, glowing blue portal opened up in the downstairs lab. An entity who bore no eyes, instead a little sheet of paper over where they should be, poked their head out of it. They arrived silently and without noise, and stepped out cautiously. They looked down and saw Clive fast asleep, tucked in carefully. They smiled and tapped him awake gently.
“Hey Clive,” they whispered, “Gather up your friends and we can go home, okay?” Clive blinked his eyes open drowsily, but snapped back to reality as soon as he saw them looming over him. He put his glasses on and smiled.
“Atari?!”
“Fear not, for I am here to take you home,” said Atari.
“You don’t have to say that,” Clive laughed, covering his mouth slightly with a hand to muffle the noise.
The little killer slowly woke up Farrow and Skuggy, tugging them up and awake and pulling them over carefully by their arms. The two stumbled over, still tired, but longing to go back home after all the time they had spent out in this dimension.
“You three ready?” Whispered Atari, holding the portal open with their arm casually, one leg in the current dimension and the other in who knows which.
“Ready!’ Clive replied happily.
“Uh huh,” Skuggy slurred.
“What?” Farrow asked, blinking multiple times.
“That’s a yes, I suppose.” Atari pulled the three into the portal and shut it up tight behind them as they stepped in. And so, just as suddenly as they had arrived, they were gone without a trace, wandering off into the multiverse in search of their home.
The Juggernaut rest peacefully once more. The four souls who made up the fusion rest as well-- The Arsonist, the Serial Killer, the Plaguebearer and the Werewolf-- excited to live their new life, excited to finally live happily.
For once, the town of Salem found peace in the night, and everyone in it rest easy, knowing that no harm would come onto them any longer.
...Well, for now, that is.
