I agree 100% .
The poor animal design is soo bad i can't stand it .
Like i also know where it was born from : it was a dunk on creationists , it used stuff like us chocking while eating and other stuff like that to point out how we are evolved not designed from scratch .
But then it outgrew it's usefulness ...
And like all of this is aimed always at erbivores , never at carnivores :
Like the intestine sloshing thing is rather common among running mammals i heard ,
Because there is the currier constraint : given how all tetrapods evolves from salamander like ancestors who hunted by ambush , the base conformation of the lunghs in lizards (by the by one of the most successful orders of tetrapods) is rather poor for prologued efforts :
The body bends in either direction (like a fish swimming) and so it commpresses air from one lungh to the other , meaning that lizards gass out rather quickly ...
Now since biology is awsome there are many many solutions for this among reptiles :
Easily my favourite : snakes have 1 lungh , so there is no air sloshing back and forth , they just have air getting in and air getting out .
Monitor lizards have a neck pump that helps air get in and out of the lunghs ,
Crocodiles and birds like the superior beings they are have air sacks , unidirectional breathing and hollow bones (they aren't for weight saving they are for breathing)
Wich gives them advantages to breathing efficiency in low pressure , but also makes them worse at handling air pollution , so yeah no burrowing birds ...
But now onto mammals : yeah since the normal mammal bend their spine up and down our lunghs gets squeezed and expanded , as it was explained previusly ...
So yeah if this was about a cheeta or a dog it would have been explained as a plus , but since erbivore .
It bad ...

Now that Critical Role's VOD of episode 120 is out and everyone in the fandom's had a moment to breathe, simmer, and adjust to this all. I wanna do a big talk about my favourite idiot punk rock, Ashton Greymoore.
Because over these last few episodes, I've been so proud of them.
Many people have had vocal opinions on Ashton, not all of them positive either; I've seen many berate them and say they're selfish, not a team player, or that they 'don't add anything to the group'. But over the past few episodes, I feel like Ashton has been an unsung hero in the battles with Ludinus and Predathos, with their contributions, oftentimes selfless and cooperative, ending up providing the floor for others to deliver strong and impactful actions.
While Dorian and Imogen will rightfully get the lion's share of praise for their clutch moments - Dorian's Force Cage on Ludinus saving Liliana and defeating Predathos' first stage alongside Imogen's Power Word: Stun setting up Ludinus' death and defeating Predathos' second stage - Ashton's actions were often the prelude to moments that could not have succeeded without them, including these clutch moments. Their attack on Ludinus in 117 prompted the Silvery Barbs that burned up his reaction - which allowed Dorian to successfully use Force Cage without being Counterspelled, their high-damage attack on his neck hole in 118 broke Ludinus' concentration on Ravenous Void - which somehow later got credited to Chetney - which gave Imogen the freedom and mobility to get in range for Power Word: Stun, they got the Insight check whisper on Predathogen in 119 to know that Imogen was physically inside of the body and needed to be pried out - which Imogen achieved herself thanks in part to Fearne reaching her, and recently in 120 they pulled Imogen out of Predathos' maw, abandoning the Hammer synonymous with their character (to the point that Keyleth titled them the 'Paradox Hammer') to prioritize saving their friend, which - following Dorian's healing - gave her the chance to use the Ring of Remembrance for the finishing Meteor Swarm. Not to mention all the other damage they dealt and tanked throughout the four fights, the passive d4 bonuses and advantage they gave the party (almost acting partly as a secondary paladin or a tertiary bard) to buff their damage and saving throws, and accepting the risk of disintegration when Laudna used their Hammer's spell splitter - which forced Predathos to use its final Legendary Resistance.
The Disintegrate moment itself was tense because we all know that Ashton is high among the Hells who would sacrifice themselves to save the group - a mentality most of the Hells likely shared in this fight - but fortunately they don't have to, they'll never have to, and they gained something just as if not more valuable than a heroic sacrifice: they get to live. The person who before meeting these chucklefucks believed they'd likely die face-down in a ditch in some backwater alley and thrown into an unmarked grave AT BEST gets to live, and the people that mean most to them get to live thanks to their efforts, their successes. And that's the most important part; for all the times they couldn't help or save someone because they were unconscious or out of reach, for all the times they let their imposter syndrome tell them they're just a fuckup undeserving of trust, praise, or love, and for every fear they had that one day they'd mess up and this new family of theirs will abandon them like the Nobodies did, this time they were there standing beside their people to the very end - and they helped get them out alive. No mistakes, no carelessness, and no-one left behind.
For that, I am proud of Ashton Greymoore; not Bells Hells' Weapon but their Helm, not a Blunt Instrument but a Protector, and not a Hero who needs to do 'what needs to be done' but a Friend who is saving their people no matter the odds. Under all the hardened and rugged exterior that has always been who Ashton is - the perfectly flawed character they are.
#*slams fist* SAVIOUR OF THE BROKEN THE BEATEN AND THE DAMNED!#And it's not to say that Ashton's the only one that deserves credit because they all do but I'm giving Ashton their flowers now#and yeah they're still an idiot punk rock but they keep getting to remake themselves and I'm happy for them#they still represent the philosophy associated with kintsugi - wabi-sabi: the beauty of the imperfect impermanent and incomplete#*slams fist again* you can't hide the cracks but you can embrace the repairs#they were so beaten up from these fights but nothing rings truer for Ashton than 'the body breaks but the soul refuses to die'#also by helm I mean like a helmsman not a helmet just fyi - they help steer BH; line up the enemies so the others can knock them down#I am proud of all the Hells too...mostly - Braius still needs to regain their trust - but everyone did their part to keep everyone alive#We all know that Tal has - or at least puts on - a level of detachment with their PCs in case they die but I'm so relieved they didn't#Ashley was relieved too - just pointing it out there for Fearne 'I have Silvery Barbs from Rogue to save my rock' Calloway#you two have weird mushrooms to enjoy - also like the rest of your lives together#Still wish we got a Titan combo but I'll take them all surviving over seeing it and them dying#Seeing them set up Imogen for a clutch spell twice reminds me how underrated their bond is; which pairs with their sibling bond with Laudna#There's still the matter of Vassalheim and the Gods ofc but this is not the first firing squad BH has stood before this campaign#but I do feel like the fighting needs to be over for the campaign - as in no more combat - lest it devalues Predathos as a final boss#Ludie2/Twodinus is still out there though ¬_¬ maybe he'll be a one shot returner like Delilah Trent and Uk'otoa (Uk'otoaaa)#I do hope the collapse of the core doesn't fully destroy Ruidus either - Gaz Tomo the Myceit and the Bormodo kinda live there#we also need to know what happened to Fy'ra Morrighan Deanna FRIDA Prism and Deni$e - where are they? Did they fight?#*slams fist a third time for no reason* my hand hurts now#critical role#cr spoilers#c3e120#ashton greymoore#bells hells#ludinus da'leth#imogen temult#laudna#predathos#dorian storm

i truly do wonder if zoro’s lack of emotional vulnerability will ever be addressed in a serious way.
we have the strawhats who give him a hard time every now and again for his stern opinions in places which may need a considered touch, e.g. vivi’s disappearance, but it’s never something that’s explored with the intention of character development which is something i find interesting.
zoro is one of my favourite characters of all time, of all media, and i have no qualms in saying his lack of acceptance towards emotion can be a flaw. he is coarse at times and while it serves a much needed purpose on occasion, such as the fight between usopp and luffy where his plainspoken, blunt words were necessary. there are other occasions where that's just not what's needed- such as luffy unable to stop crying after he found out sabo was alive, and zoro (framed humorously) scolding him.
zoro’s emotions are worrying, and something i believe stem from his lifelong isolation. for zoro, who’s never had a home before the strawhats, to stare blankly at the going merry as she burned down. zoro who notably smiles less as the series progresses, who never got closure for the trauma between thriller bark and post marineford. i find it so worrying, and it's something i very much want to be addressed.
zoro is the manly man, he is beloved by gym bros and has a large male fan base. he is the protector. and that trope has been placed upon his shoulders among a lot of categories that the strawhats fill out respectively. but zoro feels insecure no matter how people may interpret him, no matter what trope he fits, “if i fail to become the world’s greatest swordsman you’ll be disappointed, right?” zoro often feels a disregard for his own life and has a flippant relationship with injury which is a huge red flag in regards to the perception of himself, his self worth, and even more than that. he pushes himself in ways which can only be explained by an unhealthy desperation. zoro is human. but he won't let himself be.
and that's understandable given what he's surrounded by, given his role and his trope. but that drive without the ability to accept 'weakness' (emotion) is a terrible combination, which in any real life scenario would be an impending mental crash.
zoro needs to accept his own emotions, he needs to allow himself to feel them, or else he will crumble under constant stress. and maybe he will, maybe something similar to marineford will happen where zoro completely collapses under the weight of the world, but god bless, that is the last thing i want to happen. and equally, something i cannot see happening from oda currently.
i want, desperately, for zoro's emotional constipation to be a plot that is addressed through someone who is well emotionally adjusted and guides him through that development. or maybe a small, personal loss that hits deeply and he has to accept the fact he needs support through it, anything. even a scare with the crew, luffy, in danger that teaches him the importance of openness with loved ones. anything will do.
i just worry for him and hope for his happiness truthfully. please oda, zoro emotional processing arc?
#one piece#roronoa zoro#monkey d. luffy#one piece analysis#one piece meta#as a man he is the perfect recipe for angst with a happy ending fanfics. so much hurt/comfort potential#zolu#closing my eyes and imagining the strawhats giving him a group hug as we speak

Lumi Plays Pokémon: White 2 Bug Monotype Run- Part 7
Well, we've rounded the team out a bit with a Dwebble that isn't weak to Flying or Fire Type. I'm sure we'll be able to handle anything that comes our way, right?
Oh god that's scary.
Jokes aside, the newly acquired Candy did actually manage to take down that Sigilyph! (With a lot of heal spamming and sacrifice plays...)
The rest of the Desert Resort went a lot smoother though, and the team got a good bit stronger! We also grabbed some good items too. Here's where the squad is at after tackling all the trainers:
So, with the desert behind us, we headed to Nimbasa- but not before some guy wants me to take over an avenue?
He asks me about my favourite things to say and do, to which there is an obvious answer.
But finally! We make it to Nimbasa. I'm sure I'll go back to that avenue sometime. Probably.
So I healed at the Pokémon Centre, and explored the town, getting more items and bumping into some guys who I battle.
I'm sure these two won't be part of a traumatic storyline in a game released 10 years later! Probably.
My next destination is actually Route 5, where I meet up with Bianca and she gives me Fly!
She also tells us about Hidden Grottos, and this unlocks grottos all over the world for us to find. I'll keep that in mind.
I don't do anything else here though, and instead go over to the other Route out of Nimbasa, and to the small secluded area north of it- Lostlorn Forest.
Here there are a couple of Bug types I can find, but there's one that I'm most interested in. In the forest is a Hidden Grotto, and within the grotto, you can find Heracross with Defiant. Pretty powerful. You can also find Pinsir with Defiant, and regular Pinsir too, but none of them have the alluring Fighting Type to help with any rocky foes and to get STAB for all the Fighting Type moves we'd be using.
I do some running around, regenerating the grotto, to see if I can get lucky- and I need to get really lucky.
In the meantime, I'm also checking rustling grass because...
A new friend! We catch her, of course.
I run around for 30-60 minutes, checking on the grotto, but ultimately it comes to nothing. We don't find any Pokémon, let alone the Heracross I had hoped I may find. I knew it was a long shot, but just how long?
Well, grottos regenerate after 256 steps, 5% of the time. Of that 5%, you have a 20% chance of it spawning a Pokémon, meaning every 256 steps there's a 1% chance of a Pokémon. Among those in the forest, Heracross is very, very rare. When the grotto regenerates, there's a 0.75% chance of Heracross. This means, every 256 steps, I have a 0.0375% chance of getting a Heracross to spawn in! I'm sure that'll happen in no time, right?
Well, assuming I was 'on odds' so to speak, and it took me the very average number of steps to find this Heracross, how many steps would I need to take? Roughly 680,000. And (generously) assuming that the bike can travel 20 steps in a second, this would take around 34,000 seconds- or almost 9 and a half hours. Yeah... We're not doing that, sorry Heracross!
(Note: my numbers may be wrong, and I did them quickly, so feel free to fact check!)
With that in mind, we're just going to call getting the Vespiquen a success, and she's going to need a name!
Leave your suggestions in the notes as usual please!
I don't know if she'll be a permanent team member, given that we have some very good Bugs coming up later, but for now she's here and she's going to be doing her best for the team!
Next time, Elesa. The most popular gym leader, and our next gym battle!

analysis of Severance season 2 intro and potential and complete spoilers up to date.
rewatching the new intro again and again (because i still cant believe they managed to make it even weirder than season 1's like im bffr when i say i used to find season 1 intro extremely weird in a mesmerizing way but season 2 intro makes that look do much more tamer) i noticed that theres an obvious involvement of balloons? with faces ofcourse. it made me think how in the intro, innie mark is walking down a basement and comes across several balloon heads. it made me think if its the same place gemma and others are who dont particularly have an outtie or their outties are locked in the basement below the severed basement.
there an obvious angle to helly and gemma as innie mark searches for someone and helly runs to the left who springs up from innie marks shadow. similarly so does gemma but she goes to the right. and ofcourse we cannot ignore the eerie elevator irving draws and the zoom and flicker between helly and gemma being in it meaning at some point mark has to make a choice among the two.
one of my favourite bits is when mark sort of ODs and does so because his outties head inflates and merges with the innies head and suddenly it deflates, which made me think if he too was being converted into what people down there are like until but then i thought maybe they just reintegrated. he basically gets reintegration sickness which petey had.
but then innie mark gets pulled away by outie mark who lifts up the wall and take innie mark outside. innie mark here is obviously sick because of the reintegration. and heres the fun bit. the book they are standing on, which is also grassy, each side has severed heads of helly and gemma and then we see cobel with a booklight head peering at them quite voyeuristically confirming that she enjoys the mindgames surrounding gemma and mark. she gets off of it. she likes watching 2 people so in love, but cant recognise each other because shes just that twisted. no wonder she brings in gemma's candle for innie marks wellness session because she wants to see how severance works and how they would react. its like her own personal vivarium. which can also mean why the book with helly and gemma's head is grassy. another fun bit is when innie mark jumps inside the head to only become this oil painting goat. they are obviously being experimented on and being observed, like in a vivarium.
i think lumon is about to experiment on mark with project cloud harbour they've got. but his outtie is going to resist and try to pull him out, to reintegrate, as seen in the intro where the severance injectiom with innie mark inside (or the chip) is being pulled out of marks head and ourtie mark tries to pull innie mark from his head into the known world, tho only partially successful as he gets stuck midway. no wonder why in the previous paragraph as i states, outtie mark is holding a clearly sick or injured innie mark.
i bet this whole procedure is something to do with kier and the revolving and the project harbour mentioned because innie mark is literally surrounded by baby kier? its possible since lumon is obsessed with mark. they didnt fire him, they invited him back. maybe its something to do with him and gemma since their case is just so extraordinary.
like im onto something, i have the pieces with me but i cant seem the put them together.
edit: the balloons are their consciousness. i just didnt have the right word because my mind was faster than my fingers. also i have always assumed that red nightsuit mark was the innie and the suited guy was the outtie...unless...

[shaking and biting] but what does it MEAN. what does it SAY what is the THEME
#akkdlflf i watched this long lecture video abt austrian national identity and the researcher said 'the austrians are quite adept at#selling the austro hungarian monarchy back to tourists incl ones from former parts of the empire... but even in the imperial nostalgia they#don't want back multilingualism or multiculturalism or any of what it actually was'#(it was a lot abt the way in which austria deals with orban's hungary in and after the 2015 refugee crisis)#ajskgldo and that just made me think about... how pointless some things feel. both in fiction and in academic research#you CAN say meaningful things about almost any topic and with almost any argument! but in some strands of history trying to 'uncover events'#with no exploration of the context and what it all MEANS and what the things we think about it mean#is the most prevalent and popular type of research :/ like there's a reason i overrely on hamann's bio of rudolf because her central thesis#is that he wasnt a crazy murderer but someone with a forward-thinking political vision that went as far as suggesting a sort of 'proto-EU'#among other things#so like. she is looking at what it all MEANS!!!#and like. my favourite todolf fanfics are also like that 😂😭 perhaps not abt politics but about suffering and power dynamics and guilt#same for original fiction. i'm never happy if a book i'm reading isnt saying something#or then again - this is more personal pickiness but. they should also be saying something NEW AND INTERESTING#a lot of the time. sometimes if you have a fave trope you can just enjoy it over and over#but idk even tropey stuff can say things#ajlsldkfkf i'm just so tired of kitsch in all its forms and also of bad science

Any updates planned for On the Water? ❤️❤️❤️
Oh I love you for asking about that one! I've actually had the last two chapters planned out for ages, but between all my other stories, it's just fallen behind on my list of priorities :') But now that I've finished several of my bigger fics, I'd love to get back to it! My goal is to finish Tideswept next, but once I do, this might be just the thing. Either way, I'm just happy to hear that someone is excited to read it<3
#On the Water is actually my personal favourite among the Shanties timelines#because it's where Makino gets to be both a barmaid and a pirate without sacrificing either one for the other#unlike in Sailor's Folly and Mnemosyne she's had her years in Party's to grow into herself as a barmaid#and unlike in Sea Songs she also gets her adventure on the high seas#I also just love exploring how an older and more experienced Makino adapts to a life at sea with Shanks and the crew#and how she grows into a pirate on her own terms#and while both Mnemosyne and Andromeda Unbound end with their bar on the ship/brethren court#On the Water is where she really feels the most like herself to me#my pirate barmaid<3#(and Shanks building her a bar on his ship is one of my favourite scenes that I've written for them)#.....talking about this fic made me excited to continue#thank you for asking about it!! it reignited a spark I'd forgotten<3

No but even beyond the heathcliffean air of his story as a kid, Nelly scene and revenge fantasies included, and even beyond the identification of the self with the craft, the entire concept of Yingxing is so good.
The glimpse we get of the relationship he has with his master has so much potential. What it says about him, what it says about everyone around them, what it says about the kid.
The fact that already as a child Yingxing was vindictive, as he will be as Blade.
His self-consciousness about being a short life species, and how he is right to be self-conscious about it. How in such a short time, being so young, he's had to deal with enormous tragedy, so that he can even as a kid look the truth in the eye and admit it. Admit that he has to work harder, longer, more obsessively, and that still nonetheless there's little chance to get ever at the level of the long life species that look down on him and take him for granted. How he is able to overcome it.
It's incredible also in the context of Dan Feng. How both struggle with their identities and how they get new ones, but in totally opposite ways. Dan Feng is weighted down by what he is and what he can do, and wants to escape that fate, and dreams of a new life in which he can be something else; and Dan Heng is born. Yingxing takes pride in that which he can do, something he wasn't born into, something he had to work very hard to achieve, and that was the path to overcome the prejudices and undermining gazes he had to bear as a short life species. He crafts his place into the Xianzhou society and becomes the legendary Furnace Master. Even on a more personal level, one could argue this is his way of maneuvering his life, of expressing himself, this is how he deals with things; like his relationship with Jing Yuan having a turning point after giving him his weapon, or how he crafted that jade flask. And then he loses his ability to create and loses himself; he becomes Blade.
The fact that even as an adult, as an exceedingly arrogant craftsman, something of the shy self-conscious kid remains is both endearing and heartbreaking as well. In some ways we still see that in Blade.
We also see echoes of that personality in Mr. Xiao, who worked under him. And that alongside his craftsmanship, his ability to fix and create auromatons even though they are vanishing in the civilian landscape, live on through Mr. Xiao. And die alongside him, for Mr. Xiao too has become but a relic of another time.
The way the other stories of craftsmen enhance facets of Yingxing's is so good too. Mainly in the story of Master Ryan and Chengjie, with the insight we get of the struggles of short life species in the Xianzhou, especially those dedicated to a craft, and how hard it is for them to reach positions of prestige. It also poses the question of how we can transcend time, if it's possible at all, and how the sharing of knowledge, the passing down of skills, the shared loved, is one of the answers. This was all already significant before, but the information gains weight with the existence of Mr. Xiao. I'd argue there's echoes of Yingxing even in Master Gongshu. His love for his automatons, his sincere fondness for them, his pride on his job, his loyalty to his position and duties, the way he is both hard and stern as well as loving with his apprentices, and how he talks about short life species.
On a sort of ontological way, it's very interesting to see how Yingxing goes from craftsman to tool or weapon, from creator to creation, from subject to object. The potential in the context of Abundance/Destruction is also extremely intriguing, I think. He who created is unmade by a curse of Abundance. He who forged weapons now follows that path of destruction. There's so much going on with Yingxing conceptually around the cycles of death and rebirth, destruction and creation; it's so fitting that now Blade is stuck in such a cycle in the most literal way.
And it's so fitting too that, in all this context, given Yingxing's entire story, Blade's entire being, that which he made unmade him. That which he created and gave him so much pride was the weapon that killed him. And now he wields it himself, his tool of revenge while he follows the path to eternal and irrevocable death.
#Yingxing#Blade#I talk too much#Fragments and scraps#sort of. I think I'll delete that tag when I save these ideas somewhere else#These are only some of the things I can't stop thinking about#Among other things I wondered what it must have been for Mr. Xiao to see his master's face everywhere around the Luofu#Fu Xuan makes a comment about not believing the short life species are necessarily less knowledgeable and that also said a lot I think#Due both to how she worded and the context. How it seemed to be another sign of her superior wisdom that she realises this#but how it's still an extended pov along the Xianzhou#The idea of being/becoming/losing oneself through and/or because of one's own skills and abilities is also applicable to Jing Yuan#I don't know. There's really so much to think about and dissect. It's so juicy#For real Yingxing is so good as a character. I didn't expect something so good and so well crafted#(and so in tune with all my favourite characteristics and stories. I've not talked#about the Orphic elements and the suicidal tendencies here‚ or the play on betrayals‚ but goodness)#I really wasn't expecting something as good and with so much potential (I am so afraid of them ruining the writing)#The way the worldbuilding and the little glimpses at everyday life of NPCs enhance every concept forming the character is amazing#I truly can't stop thinking of Yingxing/Blade in every facet he has. The very way we are told things is telling#I always say form is substance‚ and I mean it. Yingxing's and Blade's story is such a clear case of this#The fragmentary condition of the storytelling as well as the different levels of trust one can give to every fragment works magnificently#with Blade as a mara-struck person dealing with memory loss and the loss of the self#It also works well with Dan Heng and Jingliu going through something similar‚ with Jing Yuan being manipulative and deceptive and silent‚#with Baiheng being dead. Ironically in my opinion it also works very well with how it seems to be hinted that both Dan Heng#and Blade may recall more than they let on or admit. I'm talking a lot and I should stop already but yes. I can't stop thinking about him#He's skyrocketed to the higher positions in the list of my all-time favourite characters in no time at all#Or at least his potential has. Goodness‚ I hope they don't ruin him...#Ugh I've talked way too much. I'm going to have to move the tags

on one hand I am not sure if my current state of emotion is because the audio drama is really THAT good or if my standards are just focused purely on the fun factor but Wow I am shaken to my very core
#PAYTON ICH HABE DIR VERTRAUT#Who would'vr thought my audio drama series in the extended audiodramatic universe of the label about (among others) oscar wilde joining up#with mycroft holmes with the british secret service to take down an evil organisation in a universe where there's like. steampunk and alsp#genuine magic#could ever have make me scream at the air because I felt so betrayed by that plot twist which I have genuinely never seen coming#my favourite thing though is that moriarty is not actually a part of that evil organisation though he's just some guy doing organised crim#he's also voiced by one of my favourte voice actors I'm so happy he has his own series in that extended universe#Irene Adler is there too#and Dupin and his chronist dupin#who else#Oh yeah Dracula and Frankenstein are part of the evil org DO YOU SEE WHAT I MEAN WHEN I SAY THIS SHOULD NOT BE THIS INTENSE OF A SERIES#I juts listened to gove minutes of this character who I genuinely liked and trusted being strangled with a piano string I really am shaken#sounded so authentic too I know they didn't kill the voice actor but that was a very good imoression of someone being strangled
