Twelve years ago, when Paul McCartney quietly released Amoeba’s Secret (top photos), a six-song live EP of a promo show he did at Amoeba Records in LA, it looked crappy, like a bootleg—cover photo with lots of.digital artifacts, and laser-printed stickers for labels. It was barebones and chintzy, even for 2007, the last year before vinyl began its amazing comeback. I’m guessing it was some kind of contractual obligation, because whoever put it together barely gave a damn and it showed. 
Now Sir Paul has re-released it as a two-LP set of the entire show, rechristened Amoeba Gig (bottom photos). The design has been updated, with the photo now slightly less digitized, actual text in the back, real labels that visually reference the cruddy stickers used last time, and if you can find it, clear and yellow vinyl copies. As for the show, it still sounds great, only now there’s more of it!

What a bummer! @amoebahollywood "The City Council voted to approve zoning changes that will clear the way for the development of a 26-story complex at the site of the Amoeba Music store at the corner of Sunset and Cahuenga boulevards in Hollywood. The move cements the fate of the distinctive building and fuels further speculation on the future of the city’s biggest record store. Amoeba will be moving. Where to, however, remains anyone’s guess. The retailer’s Hollywood location, which opened to great fanfare in 2001, has been in a kind of holding pattern since news of the possible development came to light a few years ago. Recent #record / #recordstore purchases- all #depechemode , obvs. “Black Celebration” is only here so I could make it a square (it hurt my brain without it 🙄)- that record was a Christmas present from my Mom and is a new remastered reissue (and sooo pretty, the cover is embossed). From top left, skipping black celebration, “Some Great Reward”, “Master and Servant” maxi single, and “Policy of Truth” maxi single. Those were all found at #amoebarecords in SF. They had sooooo many new reissues and just new records in general that I wanted, but I really wanted to find older pressings that I can’t just pick up online any time I feel like it. There aren’t too many places like @amoebahollywood around anymore. There was a meet and great/signing by some artist I had never heard of before… @dprian It felt like chaos really! My head was in sensory overload. The kids all seemed happy with their autographs and music! That was good enough for me. It felt so good to get back to Amoeba at its new location. I had an "Emily in Paris" moment.. Experienced the imagination of Van Gogh projected on everything. The first room had mirrored sculptures scattered among the shiny floors. That was my favorite. They also had a great gift shop.
