Shuuma marriage scene
Summary: Shu and Yuma get married
Shu paced around the room, nervous from what was about to come. He waited for over 500 years for this day to come, the day he would finally marry Yuma.
To be honest, he had already given up hope Yuma would ever propose after the first 100 years so when Yuma, after 498 years finally proposed, it was like a fever dream. The other wanted to celebrate his birthday for no apparent reason, in front of all the major clans. And at midnight he proposed in front of the night sky. Shu was still convinced Reiji had the idea but he just couldn't bring himself to ask.
"Are you ok?" Shu turned around the door, he hadn't noticed Cora coming in. Her light pink hair was tied up in a bun, very similar to the one his mother used to wear. His mother. Despite all the disagreements they had and her being not the best mother he would have loved for her to walk him down the aisle and not his aunt.
"Just a bit nervous." Shu replaid, fiddling with his blond locks. The woman smiled and walked up to him, putting her hands on his cheek.
"Don't be dear, he won't say no." she laughed but Shu wasn't so sure about that. He didn't know a single thing, Yuma could find attractive about him and still they were about to get married. He still struggled with his depression and even was absent to their daughter.
Speaking of which, the dark brown door opened yet again and a little blond head peeked through.
"uncle Reiji says we need to come" Shu looked in Cora's eyes, warmth radiated from them and he nodded.
"Let's go then."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Yuma looked into the crowd, way to many people for his taste (it were just The Sakamaki, Mukami, Kino and Tsukinami which Kou forced to come). He would have liked a wedding just between them and the officiant but Reiji refused to accept it and he was their wedding planner. The same for his proposal but it couldn't be changed now.
Ruki had reassured him the entire day that nothing bad would happen. Yuma wasn't the guy to get anxious easily but somehow this made him nervous.He looked around the room yet again, when would they come? How long did he have to wait? And then the music slowly began setting in and it got quiet.
The door opened and Naomi ran out with a basket of Merry gold flowers. They didn't want roses, they were too impersonal in Shu's opinion. The only opinion he really voiced out. Yuma smiled at the little girl in her white dress, she wanted to look just like daddy.
Not soon after she came both doors were opened completely. At the end of the aisle stood Shu and Cora. Yuma Was speechless, he looked so perfect. And now it seemed like all those people were invisible, it was just them. Their eyes met and he could feel slight tears form in his eyes. He could have never imagined to see him this beautiful. There was only one moment he could remember, where he looked remotely this mesmerising, when Yui and Ayato got married.
He remembered how blackout drunk Shu was since Kino kept encouraging him. It was the only time he ever saw Shu acting this way before. He behaved like a little kid back then and repeatedly told Yuma he wasn't drunk and was OK to drive home alone. Of course he wasn't.
But this wasn't the part that made him beautiful. The dark blue suit he wore. Yuma had never seen him in a suit, not even at official events. He lost his jacked half way through admittedly but it was still beautiful. Suits really fit Shu.
And now that he walked towards him in this pure white one, he looked even more beautiful than ever before and knowing he would marry Shu today filled Yuma with so much happiness. He watched Cora give Shu a last hand squeeze and smile as if saying ‘you got this’ before he finally stood in front of him.
“You look beautiful.” Yuma whispered, which made Shu slightly smile. They didn't have anything fancy going on, despite Cora wanting them to. She argued it was their day and they would have it only once but alas it was one of the few things they stayed persistent about not having.
The officiant, a young man probably about Shu’s age with brown hair, cleared his throat before beginning.
"Dearly Beloved and Honoured Guests, We are gathered together here to join Shu Sakamaki and Yuma Mukami in the spiritual union of marriage.This contract is not to be entered into lightly but thoughtfully and seriously, and with a deep realisation of its obligations and responsibilities. Please remember that love, loyalty, and understanding are the foundations of a happy and enduring home." It all felt so surreal, not only for them but for all. After everything that happened back then they had slowly become friends and it had become regular to see Shu and Yuma as a couple, but not married.
"Do you Shu Sakamaki take this man Yuma MUkami  to be your lawfully wedded husband, to have and to hold, in sickness and in health, in good times and woe, for richer or poorer, keeping yourself unto his for as long as you both shall live?"
All eyes laid on the blonde, his heart began beating faster and now, after all this time, he began to overthink. What if it didn't work out? All royal marriages he had witnessed fell apart eventually. From his fathers wives to Laiko and Carla. What if the same thing happened to them, what if Yuma began hating him. Tears welled up in his eyes, he couldn't do it. Only from the corner of his eyes could he see Shin asking Kou something and him shaking his head. It didn't make anything better, it made it worse. The expectations to say yes, the pressure. Yuma touched Shu’s hand and his head shot up again, he didn't even know he lowered his head. A smile was on his face telling that everything would be ok.
“I do.” Shu answered with a shaky voice and a wave of relief overcame the whole room. He didn't even listen to the officiant asking Yuma the same question, he just looked into the others eyes as he answered with the same, nervous “I do.”
For everyone else it might have sounded normal but Shu could hear the nervous tone in the others' voice. They decided to have no vows, both finding them a bit too extra but now Shu wanted to say something.
And so he sighed.
“Yuma, when we first met as kids”, everyone seemed surprised at the sudden change of structure, even Yuma “you were my first real friend who liked me for who I am and not for being the son of the Vampire king. And when you were taken away, I did not know what the meaning of my life was. Losing you was the greatest pain I ever felt”, tears streamed down his face as he took in a deep breath “so having you back means the world. Please never leave me.”
Silence. Noone dared to speak and Yuma looked shocked. He never thought Shu would say something like this so suddenly, not to say that this was probably the single longest time he ever spoke in one go.
“I won't. I love you.” he felt the same but he wouldn't say it out in public, even if those were just friends. He never wanted to lose Shu, he couldn't live without his neet.
"Shu Sakamaki and Yuma Mukami will now exchange rings as a symbol of their love and commitment." The officiant just continued after protocol and looked around the room. Not soon after a little white dog came running around the corner, careful as to not let the rings fall. Kou had mentioned to Yuma that his and Shin’s wedding present would be the best but he didn't expect a dog that carried their rings (not to mention they didn't tell Reiji or Cora about it and got a scolding). He sat down in front of the two, tail wagging with excitement.
Shu kneeled down, petted the dog slightly and got the rings, placing one in Yumas hand. When they put their gold rings over each other's hand, finally a wave of happiness overcame Shu. They were married, and finally his dreams came true. Everything would be perfect, hopefully. Hopefully. That tiny voice of fear didn't go away but it got toned down by the happiness.
"By the authority vested in me by the Marriage Ministries of the demon world and the Vampire King I now pronounce you husband and wife."
Shu slightly pulled Yuma down into a kiss, their first kiss as a married couple. He could faintly hear Cora crying in the background, probably on either Ruki’s or Reiji’s shoulder. This day was, and still is, the best day of his life.
