Still under the Super Mario theme, I made these little power up mushroom pouches to give away for some of our raffle supporters. They're too cute tho, I really enjoyed crocheting them.

Originally I wanted to make it so Wiglett could retract into the sand pouch, but that turned out not to be something that works very well in crochet at this scale

Day twenty-three: an octopus pouch 🐙! I remember watching the video for this at work and writing down the pattern on my work laptop, so it’s just in a random document saved on my computer 😅. I prefer writing down the patterns and reading it so I don’t have to worry about keeping pace with the video, because they sometimes go too slow or too fast for my preference. Anyways, the actual YouTube video is by mongleinae (linked here), it was easy to follow and the pouch is so cute at the end! I think the hardest part though is hiding the ends, because I can’t hide it away in the stuffing like I usually do since it’s a pouch on the inside 😅

My partner plays a dragonborn in dnd so the dragon has been given his characters colours

Crochet patterns for the Greek Gods

Crochet can make a good vocative offering or devotional act to the Gods! So i browsed thought Pinterest and found some cool patterns that reminded me of some of the Greek Gods. Amigurumi Samurai Flamingo and Kiwi Goto, based on @vysperation's incredible original designs (seen on the zipper pouch in the top pic).

Shortly before the pandemic, I started getting back into crochet, and when I saw Red Heart's crochet flamingo kit, I couldn't help myself. Masamingo uses the kit's pattern (free download here), but made double size, with some additions to better approximate Vy's design. For instance, I did two layers of wings to give the impression of bigger, fuller wings (and add the black feathers) , and I'm almost 100% sure the white face was a separate piece I sewed onto the pink base. Kiwi Goto...I just kind of figured out as I went. (He's all simple shapes and pipe cleaner, but I am still proud the hat worked.)

Amigurumi

Becky was not a very creative person. The concept of art escaped her and she had no sense of rhythm when she danced. Her mother, however, was a creative person. She enjoyed amigurumi, the art of crocheting plush animals for people. Becky would watch her mother conjure animals out of yarn with feelings of pride and envy mixing in her stomach.

On the one hand, it was good to know that other people in her family helped others, too, just like she did as WordGirl. On the other hand, she wished that she wasn't so bad with creative stuff so she could help people in either identity.

"Sweetie, I got carried away with my crochet and made a few too many blankets and animals. Do you know anybody that could use them?" Mrs Botsford asked. She trundled in a bag on wheels full of blankets. In her hands was a second bag of stuffed animals.

"Let me see," Becky said, looking through the blankets and assessing them. She settled on a light blue one that had grey stripes on it. The plushie that she paired it with was a smiling blond puppy.

She knew exactly who she would give it to.

(PAUSE)

Tobey was at home, drinking hot chocolate while watching Home Alone. Sitting in an oversized Christmas sweater with chocolate on his face, it was clear that he wasn't expecting a visit.

But the determined knock on the door meant that he was getting one whether he liked it or not.

"In a minute!" Tobey called, getting some house slippers and walking to the door. He was expecting carol singers, or maybe people collecting for charity.

He wasn't expecting WordGirl.

"Hi, Tobey!" she said, with a wide smile.

Tobey was about to drop the mug of hot chocolate that he was holding. But that would stain the carpet and probably scald his foot, so he settled for dropping his jaw instead. WordGirl, the WordGirl, was on his doorstep.

"Hi, I mean hello, I mean hi!" Tobey stammered. "What are you . . . doing here, exactly?"

"Just bringing you something that I thought you would like!" She handed over the bag she was holding. "It reminded me of you." She flew off before Tobey could say anything back, and he was left holding a bag of . . . something in one hand and his hot chocolate in the other. He closed the door and took his present inside.

It wasn't much, but it was beautiful. A blanket with blue and grey stripes, a plush toy puppy, and a small pouch of cookies with a note.

I thought that you could use something soft to hold, so I got you the puppy. Its fur is the same colour as your hair. Then I thought that you might need something to wrap yourself up in during these winter months, so I got you the blanket. The stripes are blue like your shirt, and grey like your metal robots. Happy holidays. WordGirl.

Tobey clutched the note tightly in his hands while giggling happily. WordGirl thought of him and used it to pick out presents.

And he had to admit, he liked the stuffed puppy.

Owls! Mom absolutely loves owls so I made these for her for Christmas:)

Pattern is by LucyRavenscar on Ravelry and is part of the Tiny Woodland Animals Amigurumi set. Not only do you get the flying and standing owl you get patterns for a fox, squirrel, badger, rabbit, hedgehog, otter and mole PLUS a little tree stump and a play mat that forms a pouch to carry them in. It's a steal for just over $6 bucks!

The flying one is really cool! Mad as I didn't have any dark brown yarn left (thanks Freddy) but it still looks really cool!

The other owl looks like this with two colors:

But Mom loves snowy owls so did it in white and painted on the black speckles. As you can see the pattern has instructions for crochet/stitched eyes but I opted for felt with painted irises.

I highly recommend this pattern as they're fairly easy with cute results and a great stash buster to boot. Can't wait to make more:)
