One of the best storytellers ever - @therulernyc - SLICK RICK - when I head the adventures of.. it changed my worldview. Witty, narrative, funny and such skill with the word play. The older I got, the more I came to appreciate the talent of this emcee. Through the trials and tribulations .. this dude has been an inspiration. Horace Silver. This man created #HardBop Jazz. Hard Bop came after Be-Bop Jazz and it is the foundation for thousands of Jazz loops in our modern Jazz language and eventually HipHop. It was Horace Silver's idea...to loop phrases and have the band jam and play solos over a series of looped phrases. Simple. It inspired the millions of Jazz musicians he leaves behind. This week, our America's Music project focuses on Country and Bluegrass. Film screening and discussion tonight, a bluegrass concert to come on Saturday, and books, movies and music to check out all the time.

Tomorrow, Wednesday April 17, 6:30-8:30, the Downtown AADL hosts a screening of High Lonesome: The Story of Bluegrass Music, followed by a discussion of Bluegrass with UM Music Professor Mark Clague.

Join us Saturday, April 20, 1-2pm for a free performance by Bill Bynum & Co. at the Downtown AADL.

This show, celebrating country and bluegrass, is a part of the eight-week America's Music project, which examines the history of American Popular Music through a series of films, discussion and concerts.

Tonight, 8-9 pm at Kerrytown Concert House, Peter Madcat Ruth offers up a set of harmonica-driven blues. There's no admission fee for this performance, which is a part of AADL's eight week America's Music series exploring the history of American popular music.
