Journal Entry: (vulnerable post) Some days it's easier to deal with you being gone, and then there's today. I know lives don't last forever, I just wish yours would have...a little longer. Being 42, I expected to still have at least one parent here. There's no self-pity...just sometimes a pitting ache of missing you. I scrambled this morning to find a video on my phone so I could hear you again, I was losing the sound...strong and rich, you had the most beautiful speaking and singing voice. You would tell me the story of when you delivered me...crazy red hair, crazy long birth. I wish I could hear that story again, but you're the only one that can tell it. I hate that I lost you, even before you passed. Alzheimer's will forever be a dirty word to me. You were one of the wisest women I've ever met, and I yearn for more of that wisdom. There was so much more to learn. You always laughed at my antics, shooshed my loudness, and hugged me hard. You made bad days hurt less, and good days were filled with your made up songs, where mundane tasks became musicals of fun. I won't paint a picture of perfection, bc that wasn't you. You owned your faults, and tried to be better...but even when you struggled, at least you were here. I could touch you, see you, feel you when I needed you the most. I don't think it's selfish to wish for more time with you...clear-minded you. I don't think it's wrong to envy the angels as they get to see that brilliant smile over and over again. I know you're better off...I get it, I really do...but part of me went with you mom. So I guess I'll handle the hobble in my heart knowing one day I'll be whole with you again. Keep a hug waiting for me, and be prepared to sing a song. I'll be able to sit and listen forever then.
