Re: Noah’s college poll, here’s my vote. He should go to a school that’s not RSU but should plan (and get his college involved in organizing) a ‘study abroad’ semester at RSU. RSU would still get a boost by developing their study abroad/exchange student connections. And perhaps more importantly: Noah “studying abroad” in the Ask would be objectively hilarious?
AHAHAHA this was sent back before I published the story about his final college choice but this is SUPER FUNNY and 100% something I want to do. Santa Cruz is notoriously pretty laid back about students controlling their own education and it would be highly amusing if Noah decided to do a study abroad semester at Royal Shivadh University, but since he's the first ever student to do so, he has to kind of build the program as he's driving it -- and then, because Noah's a relatively charismatic and well-liked guy, a bunch of Santa Cruz students follow in his footsteps.
Which results in Royal Shivadh University having a kind of sister-school relationship to UC Santa Cruz, and suddenly every semester there's a handful of weird Welsh-accented, extremely mischievous, extremely dry Shivadh students rolling up in Santa Cruz for school, getting summer jobs on the Boardwalk, enthusiastically roadtripping to San Francisco for Pride....
My undergrad alma mater had (and still has) a very strong relationship with a school in Japan, to the point where we actually had a dormitory building dedicated to hosting Japanese students studying with us (it was mixed American freshmen and Japanese exchange, but it was geared towards making sure the Japanese students had a welcoming space that they felt ownership over). They'd arrive in spring, take the spring semester, spend the summer tooling around America, come back for fall semester, and then head back to Japan. They were GREAT fun -- super enthused to learn about America, loved chatting because it helped improve their English, and always really interesting people to hang out with.
Anyway, great idea, gonna reblog this to @shivadh so I can save it for later :D

I’m being too lazy to actually re-type out the post I wanted to make.
I thinking "shaming" is probably any form of criticism with the embedded message "you should feel bad about yourself"

I made this mix for my mother, on the occasion of her 65th birthday. It’s very influenced by the current political situation in the U.S. (obviously). And since we’ve made it through the 100 days of 45′s term, I thought “Resistance 101″ was a cute zeitgeist-y title.
Take heart and keep fighting, friends.
For those who don’t have Spotify...
Alive - Sia
Golden Brown - The Stranglers
Are We Ready? (Wreck) - Two Door Cinema Club
Chained to the Rhythm - Katy Perry ft Skip Marley
Daniel in the Den - Bastille
Kangaroo Court - Capital Cities
Tear Down That Wall - The Bright Light Social Hour
Wings of Love - liv (note, for those looking it up on YouTube, the music video is VERY NSFW)
Wondaland - Janelle Monae
Let Me Out - Gorillaz ft Mavis Staples and Pusha T
Worry - Mother Mother
Walking To Do - Ted Leo and the Pharmacists
Golden Years - David Bowie
The Next Storm - Frank Turner
Freedom - Beyonce ft Kendrick Lamar

Hi - that cross-stitch piece you posted was GORGEOUS! I tried checking your tags but didn't see anything, sorry if you've answered this before. How do you create your patterns? Do you use some kind of software, or are you LITERALLY A WIZARD? Do you have any general resources for pattern making that you'd recommend? (Signed, I Love Cross Stitch But Get Bored With Twee Americana Pattern Books Real Quick)
Oh, sure!! I’ve mentioned things once or twice in the past, but never in my tags, which would sure be a useful place to have it, haha. I use pic2pat for the big painterly-type pieces. It’s a pretty basic program, but nice and intuitive. You upload an image file, and it lets you select from a drop down list of sizes, usually from two inches to llllike two feet. You can also select floss brand or stitches per inch if you want, but I’ve always stuck to the defaults. Then it gives you some images to choose from for varying color depths, which each link to a pdf of the pattern. It’s nice and convenient to use! And it tells you how many skeins of which colors to buy and everything. Sometimes I tweak the colors as I go, because their algorithms are just math, no art, so for example, there was supposed to be a pale green pixel in the middle of megatron’s right thigh, but it looked pretty jarring so I ended up switching to a midtone brown.
For things that are less shaded, more strong lines, I tend to eyeball those myself. A site like pic2pat will pixelate the heck out of that kind of thing, which isn’t necessarily terrible, but it does complicate a project. I tend to go to excel and zoom way out and fiddle with the row height/column width so things are square, and I fill stuff in with bolded X’s until I get what I’m looking for. I’m sure there are better pattern-making sites out there, but I’m familiar with excel, so I tend to go there. For my undertale project, I just counted pixels and transposed them into excel. I also hoard alphabet charts that I like, and it’s nice to have those at hand when I need them (and excel makes it easy to fiddle with the kerning). Other than that, I don’t have much! I know there ARE good programs out there, I just don’t know what they are. I get excited about making things and bulldoze ahead without slowing down to think. I hope some of that helps!

@amatyultare aaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh
This adorable little robot is designed to make sure its photosynthesising passenger is well taken care of. It moves towards brighter light if it needs, or hides in the shade to keep cool. When in the light, it rotates to make sure the plant gets plenty of light. It even likes to play with humans.
Oh, and apparently, it gets antsy when it’s thirsty.
The robot is actually an art project called “Sharing Human Technology with Plants” by a roboticist named Sun Tianqi. It’s made from a modified version of a Vincross HEXA robot, and in his own words, it’s purpose is “to explore the relationship between living beings and robots.”
I don’t care if it’s silly. I want one.

amatyultare: i both do and don't want to pitch an au in the world of The Locked Tomb series. downside: the original series has a level of stakes that i don't think you're interested in writing about? like, the vibe i've gotten from your writing has never been "i will become an angel solely so I can ascend and kill God", y'know? Otoh: dark setting redeemed by lovable characters, fascinating & specific magic system (all necromancy!) well-established lore but lots of space to speculate.
this is a very astute observation about me, actually. i tend to write character who enact massive changes but are driven by very personal stakes (see: Karkat in KTOWL, he's done some Huge Shit but its all just so he can take the boy he likes out ice skating)
i hear a lot of good things about TLT but was turned off it bc some friends warned me it'd come a lil close to my weird trigger about death. which, duh, it's a story about necromancy lmao. but i find death in fiction a huge turn off, that's why i'm kinda waiting for that series to conclude, then get the lowdown from a trusted friend.
