because up until this very moment, neither of them had ever dared to utter those three simple words that seemed to carry the weight of a lifetime’s worth of pining love. instead, it floated in the air about them, occasionally hidden in stolen gazes from across the room, squeezing in between embraces that lingered for longer than usual, or disguising itself in the phrase “i adore you.” in hindsight, it was rather absurd — but then again, when has love truly been anything but a mystery in and of itself?
