tuesday again 10/25/22
fairly short bc i have either been sleeping or manually cleaning a database (upside down smiley face emoji)
listening ruby (instrumental) by hovvdy. this is a rare song where i like the instrumental version much more than the full song-- the lead singer has a bad case of early aughts indie frontman voice (get well soon). this sounds like (stay with me okay) the background music to some of the old american girl flash games, specifically the dog walking game. i think it's the combination of the drum machine and the dense, rapid loop under the melody.
it sounds faded but not in the volume sense, in like a mellow sense? it sounds like driving to go apple picking. overall it is laidback but peppy. courtesy of my discover weekly.

reading mervyn peake's titus groan, the first in a trilogy about the inhabitants of the baroque yet medieval Castle Groan. i am reading this book in a way i do not normally read books, to wit: one or two chapters at a time a week apart. i sit by a river until i get bored, i think "oh right there's a book in my bag" and read until i get bored again. i am falling more and more in love with the prose in this thing-- the lady mother of the castle has a billion white cats, and they all rush into her room until (i am not getting up to quote this precisely) "every shadow in the room was blanched with cats". MWAH. love it. i have just met the teen lady fuchsia groan. DREADFUL child. excited to find out what her whole deal is.
i also need you all to look at the PBS site for the two-season adaptation they did in the year 2000. this is the most 2000s shit ive ever seen this is incredible

watching if for some reason you want to watch a response to rio bravo (an extremely tiresome movie which is in itself a response to high noon) Assault On Precinct 13 (1976, dir Carpenter) is really your only option i think? fun hour and a half tower defense, fun effects, this movie takes place either in evening or actual night and i can still see everything that's going on bc carpenter shelled out for the best processing money could buy (to the detriment of actually uhhhh paying his talent).
one of the more charged smoking scenes ive seen in some time. god laurie zimmer is hot
i markov chained my way to this film bc i am always interested in responses to westerns (usually this means reinterpreting them as cop dramas, bc most american cowboy movies are propaganda pieces about trusting law enforcement and how imperialism is good, something something civic religion/manifest destiny/reach for the sky pardner) and i want to watch more things that feel like The Taking of Pelham 123 bc by god was that movie fun to watch. maybe i do like hostage movies??? this is a weird development for me.

playing despondently puttering about in the fourth fallout. really wish i found the companion deacon endearing, but i do not. this game has several too many sad dead wife guys, and if there was anything interesting under the very obvious front he's putting on deacon would be a much more interesting (to me) character. alas.

making fallow week
#the watching is more of a rehash of a post i made earlier this week#but i simply have not been watching very much#tuesday again#tuesday again no problem#Youtube

Dylan O'Brien - NME Magazine Interview
Dylan O’Brien: “I was in this transitional phase – close to a quarter-life crisis”
From YA heartthrob to legitimate leading man – how the 'Maze Runner' star hit his stride after a whirlwind decade
Definitely!” hoots Dylan O’Brien when NME asks if he still has to audition. “I’m not Tom fucking Hanks, bro.” He’s clearly amused by our question, but forgive us for thinking the 29-year-old actor gets cast on reputation alone. A decade into his career, and he’s making an impressive transition from teen TV star and YA franchise hero to charismatic leading man.
New York-born O’Brien cut his teeth on MTV’s hit Teen Wolf series, before landing the lead in the Maze Runner film trilogy based on James Dashner’s hugely popular novels. Leading a band of bright young things that included ex-Skins tearaway Kaya Scodelario, Game Of Thrones’ Thomas Brodie-Sangster and Will Poulter, he honed his craft while racking up nearly a billion dollars at the box office. “My career is a constant acting class,” says O’Brien. “To be able to do the Maze Runner movies simultaneously with Teen Wolf was amazing in terms of getting in reps and working my [acting] muscle.”
Now for the sometimes tricky bit. Many actors struggle with the post-breakout period, but O’Brien is making it look easy so far. This year’s Netflix hit Love and Monsters proved he can carry an old-school family adventure, and new film Flashback (out next week) reveals an appetite for weirder, more cerebral work. He stars as Fred Fitzell, a young man reluctant to buckle down to life as a nine-to-fiver with a boring corporate job and a long-term girlfriend (Mindhunter‘s Hannah Gross). When he runs into a freaky-looking acquaintance from his teenage years, Fred becomes obsessed with finding an old high-school friend he used to drop a mind-bending experimental drug called Mercury with. It’s difficult to say any more without entering spoiler territory, but Flashback is a wild ride underpinned by the idea that we can exist in several realities at once. Even if you follow every plot twist, you might not fully understand the end. “Oh, it’s definitely a headfuck,” O’Brien agrees. “There’s not totally an answer to figure out. There’s a lot of different things that people can take from it.”
Speaking over Zoom from his LA home, O’Brien is bright, thoughtful and really good fun to talk to, especially when he relaxes into the interview, but he clearly knows where his line between public and private lies. When he first read the Flashback script, written by the film’s director Christopher MacBride, his “mind was blown” by just how much he related to Fred. “I felt like I was in this transitional phase of my life that was, you know, sort of close to a quarter-life crisis type thing,” he says. “For whatever reason, it was like me and this script were meant to be. I remember reading it and thinking: ‘I am this guy right now.'”
“There were a lot of things in my personal life that were neglected for a while”
When we ask why O’Brien felt as though he had reached a “transitional phase”, he gives an answer that’s vague but not exactly evasive. For understandable reasons, he doesn’t mention the incredibly traumatic motorcycle accident he sustained while shooting the final Maze Runner film in March 2016. O’Brien suffered severe trauma to the brain and said in 2017 that he underwent extensive facial reconstructive surgery after the accident “broke most of the right side of my face”. Tellingly, he’s never really revealed what happened on set or how it affected him.
Today, O’Brien dances around the details of the accident and other issues he was dealing with at the time, but doesn’t shy away from discussing his inner conflict. “You know, it was a lot of personal things combined with at-a-point-in-my-career things,” he says after a brief pause. He says he’d have been going through some of this stuff anyway, simply because of his age, but it sounds as though success intensified it all. “It was like this whole fucking storm of shit,” he continues. “I was simultaneously so fulfilled and happy about these, like, otherworldly and surreal things that I had experienced in terms of where my career had brought me. I had all this confidence and fulfilment and beautiful people [in my life] – such amazing things to experience at a young age. But at the same time, there were a lot of things in my personal life that were unchecked and sort of neglected for a while.”
O’Brien says that in time, he realised he had to “stop for a second” and “re-explore how I wanted my life to look going forward”. In fairness, you can see why he needed a breather: his career took off while he was still a teenager. After his family moved from New Jersey to Los Angeles County when he was 12, O’Brien contemplated a career as a sports broadcaster – his Twitter bio still bills him as a “no longer suffering Mets fan” – then began posting YouTube videos as moviekidd826. A funny, slickly edited skit titled ‘How to Prepare for the SAT in 45 seconds’, shared when he was just 17, shows he was a born performer and storyteller. YouTube success led to him getting a manager, but his breakthrough role in Teen Wolf still came out of the blue. At the time, he was treading water at a local community college and taking auditions on the side.
Still, he has since taken a rather fatalistic view of this career-making moment. “It’s totally weird because, when I think about it now, I don’t see how it could have happened any other way. I can’t picture myself doing anything else now,” he told Collider in 2011. “It was really sudden and a little random, and not provoked by anything. It was just out of nowhere. It wasn’t my intentional doing.” Today, O’Brien summarises his skyscraper career trajectory succinctly. “I guess I just graduated high school and started acting,” he says. “And then I felt like I was just flying by the seat of my pants and never got a chance to stop.” Thankfully, straight-out-the-blocks Hollywood success hasn’t taken away his sense of perspective. When I say how easy social media makes it to compare yourself unfavourably to others, O’Brien jumps in: “Yeah, that’s very true. I was watching the Billie Eilish doc the other day, and I was like, I’ve done nothing. I’m not an artist at all!”
“No one thought ‘Love and Monsters’ was going to be good!”
O’Brien is also self-deprecating when he talks about being cast in Flashback, suggesting it happened because he had such an intense connection with Fred. “I was honestly like, ‘Who is watching me right now?’ That is the best way I can describe how I was feeling when I came across this script,” he says. “Chris [MacBride, director] and I had this conversation that went so well in terms of [my] understanding this script that I think he’d sent around a lot and [that] very commonly wasn’t understood. I think Chris has even said that the night before shooting, he suddenly had this thought, like, ‘Wait, do I even think he’s a good actor?'”
Though O’Brien has firmly ring-fenced elements of his private life, he’s actually pretty frank about his acting vehicles. He readily admits he was expecting a snobbish response to Love and Monsters, a CGI-heavy hybrid of post-apocalyptic action and romcom that dropped on Netflix in April and topped the streamer’s daily most-watched list. “It means so much that Love and Monsters has gotten the response that it’s gotten,” O’Brien says. “No one thought this movie was going to be good.” His blunt honesty makes me laugh out loud. “No one did though!” he says in response. “And so, fuck that. You know, most of the people who say something to me about the movie, they’re like: ‘I watched Love and Monsters, and it was… good?’ And honestly, that just cracks me up.” For obvious reasons, we hastily decide not to share our response to the film – namely, that it was a whole lot better than expected.
In Love and Monsters, O’Brien plays Joel, a survivor of a so-called “monsterpocalypse” that has bumped humans to the bottom of the food chain. Though he’s known in his colony as a bit of a coward, Joel sets off on a treacherous 80-mile journey to find his high school sweetheart Aimee (Iron Fist‘s Jessica Henwick), which means evading the hungry clutches of various supersize grizzlies including a giant monster-frog hiding in a suburban pond. It’s a simple but pretty out-there premise that wouldn’t work if O’Brien’s performance was even slightly condescending. Instead, his unselfconscious sincerity really sells a film that has as much in common with the family-oriented Robin Williams movie Night at the Museum as darker fare like The Walking Dead.
His obvious affection for the project really comes across during our interview today. “When I read the script, I just thought it was so sweet and funny and smart and unique, but at the same time reminiscent of all these movies that don’t really get made any more,” he says. That’s a fair point: Love and Monsters is neither a fail-safe superhero movie nor a slice of classy Oscar bait. “And when they were talking about how to market this movie, it was so funny hearing all these conversations like, ‘How do we actually get people to watch it?'” he adds. “But that’s a big part of the reason I wanted to do this movie: because it felt like something I missed seeing.”
“I’m lucky to be surrounded by people who want to make something out of love”
So in a way, Love and Monsters was a risk for an actor seeking to establish himself outside of a bankable movie franchise and a hit TV show. O’Brien has only made four films since his final Maze Runner outing in 2018, and insists he hasn’t been tactical with his choices. “I don’t have anyone saying, ‘We need to get you in an Oscar vehicle’, or any of that kind of shit,” he says. “I’m really lucky to be surrounded by people who think like me: that you should do what you’re drawn to, and make something out of love.”
He’s recently finished shooting a mysterious crime thriller called The Outfit in London with Mark Rylance. Directed and co-written by Graham Moore, who won an Oscar for his screenplay to Alan Turing biopic The Imitation Game, O’Brien calls it “quite possibly one of the most special pieces of writing I’ve ever experienced”. He first read the script on a plane and says he “actually stood up and clapped” when he got to the end. Considering O’Brien probably wasn’t flying Ryanair, this reaction presumably attracted a few baffled glances.
Anyway, it must be pretty intimidating walking onto set with Rylance, a multi-award-winning actor revered by his peers – Al Pacino once said he “speaks Shakespeare as if it was written for him the night before” – but it sounds as though O’Brien took it all in stride. He says he’s confident in his abilities, but admits to having a slight wobble whenever he begins a new project. “I’m always sort of re-questioning everything – like, ‘Can I even act?'” he says. “But I think there’s something very natural about that. I think even Rylance could relate to that feeling. Acting is like starting a new year at school every single time.”
At this point in his career, O’Brien has made peace with the fact that some people will have preconceptions about him based on what he’s known for: Maze Runner and Teen Wolf. “People will put you in a box no matter what,” he says. “There was definitely a time when that would get to me, especially when it felt like somebody had a perspective on me that in my soul, I just felt wasn’t accurate.” Still, there’s no doubt he wants to show us what’s really in his soul with more films like Flashback. “If anything,” he adds bullishly, “it just makes me think: ‘Right, I’m really gonna show them now’.”
‘Flashback’ is out on digital platforms from June 4

The House Party - ep.03 - JJ Maybank
Summary: Things start to heat up as the week reaches its midway point and you make a decision that changes everything.
A/N: Mild smut at the very end of the chapter.
The S’week Masterlist | Outer Banks Masterlist
///
You weren’t sure how many times you would have to brush your teeth to get the taste of last night out of your mouth but the three times you already had clearly weren’t enough. It wasn’t alcohol, in fact you’d woken up more sober than you expected to be, almost leaning off the edge of your bed, tucked into your blanket, with JJ laying on top of the bedding beside you. It was all very ‘one motel bed’ trope-ish but you’d both been so exhausted last night that you couldn’t even enjoy the implications of it. An ice cube tray of melted aloe vera sat on the night stand and you brought it down with you to the kitchen to refreeze when you decided coffee might help the taste that wouldn’t leave your mouth.
To put it the only way you knew how, a way JJ would have definitely put it, you tasted kook trash every time you swallowed and it wasn’t going to go away anytime soon, at least not while Rafe was two houses down from you.
“Morning,” Pope voice half startled you as you entered the kitchen to find him sitting at the island eating cereal.
“How is it possible that you look so normal?” You asked, grabbing a bowl for some cereal yourself. Breakfast was a good distraction from your phone and the taste in your mouth.
“You mean as opposed to John B and Sarah who decided to parent trap it on a floatie in the pool?” He asked, turning for emphasis to look outside where your best friend and her boyfriend were indeed asleep on a floatie in the pool.
“Exactly.”
“I’m not a big drinker.” He shrugged. “What about you?”
“Am I a big drinker?” You asked.
“No, how did you end the night?”
You nodded your head slowly, realising what he was getting at with his question. “JJ was sick, I figured it was better to come back here than make him stay at the party.”
“Sure.” He agreed though it sounded empty, “did you hook up?”
“What?”
“Look, I know how JJ parties, he’s my best friend. And I know what his ‘senior week plans’ were before Sarah hijacked them to come down here. I wouldn’t put it past him to alter them. You know, have sex with as many girls as he can in the keys. Host included.”
“We didn’t have sex.” You replied.
He stared at you for a full minute, not saying anything, as if the look on his face alone would crack you into admitting some misdeed. And it probably would have if any had occurred.
“We didn’t have sex, I swear to god.” You reiterated. “It is what I said it is. JJ was throwing up in the bathroom and I brought him back here so he could rest. That’s all that happened.”
“With JJ.” Pope scoffed.
“Whoa, where’s the displaced animosity coming from...pretty sure you’re in my house.”
“Yeah and JJ is my best friend. I don’t want you stringing him along for the week cause you’re bored and you wanna make your ex jealous or something.” Pope replied.
“You literally just got done telling me that JJ wanted to sleep his way around s’week but I’m the bad guy in your head because of some proposed plan I have to ‘make my ex jealous’?” You questioned. “That’s un-fucking-believable.”
“It would be if I hadn’t seen you in the hallway with your ex right before you left with JJ.”
“You’re delusional. My ex who? Just cause I was talking to some guy-“
“You weren’t talking and it was Rafe.”
You shut your mouth, lips pressed together in a line as you tried to think of something to say. Sure, it was common knowledge amongst your friend group that you and Rafe had been hooking up for the better part of two years but that was over and you really didn’t think it was the kind of thing that pogues talked about. And you trusted Sarah not to have blabbed about it to anyone else.
“How’d you know-“
“How’d I know you and Rafe were a thing? Sarah’s not the only one here that knows you. I’ve seen him at your house before when I delivered groceries, not so hard to put two and two together.”
“Well me and Rafe are over.”
“You didn’t look over.” Pope challenged.
“Oh well, thank you for interpreting two fucking minutes of my life and deciding how I feel about something.” You snapped, “I didn’t want him to kiss me okay, I told him to leave me alone. It shouldn’t come as a surprise to you that the word no isn’t exactly a part of his vocab.”
Before Pope could say anything back the sound of footsteps on the stairs caught your attention. Both of you looked toward the staircase in time to see JJ appear, shirtless with just a pair of swim shorts on. His shoulders and chest were red but not as burnt as his back, which you caught a glimpse of as he trudged passed you, not in the high spirits he had been yesterday morning.
“Dude, your back looks painful.” Pope commented, staring at the expanse of angry red skin that looked more ready to blister than anything.
“It feels painful too.” JJ grumbled. So far he was 0-3 with vacation. He was stuck in this kook house (which really wasn’t so bad but he enjoyed bitching about it), he was sunburnt to hell, and he’d wasted an entire night of partying throwing up from sun-poisoning (though that worked out in his favour too because he definitely enjoyed the part where he sat on your bed and you rubbed aloe ice cubes on his back and basically took care of him).
“Guess the beach is out of the question?” Pope asked, getting up to put his bowl in the sink.
“I can go to the beach.”
“You definitely can’t.” You replied, coming around to look at JJ’s back. He was sitting on one of the stools, slumped over. “You shouldn’t get anymore direct sun on your back.”
“Oh cool, I’m so glad I came all the way down to fucking Florida to sit in a house all day and do shit.”
“Sorry man,” Pope said, though he made no offer to stay at the house. Yesterday had been great and he was looking forward to going to the beach again today with Kiara. John B and Sarah had mentioned tagging along but he knew they’d eventually go off to do their own thing.
“We could go to the boardwalk?” You offered, ignoring the look that Pope sent your way. You knew he was just being a good friend, looking out for someone he cared about, and it made you wish that Sarah knew enough to do the same for you.
“What will we do on the boardwalk?” JJ asked, curious enough that he wasn’t immediately rejecting the idea.
“There’s a water park there and an arcade, plus you know, tons of food.” You shrugged, “I know you wanna go to the beach-“
“I can be persuaded.”
“I think you already have been.” Pope commented.
The three of you turned your attention to the stairs as Kiara came down, already dressed for the beach. When she saw the three of you in various states of sleepwear she rolled her eyes, “hey Kie be ready early so we can all go to the beach together.”
“Technically, Sarah said that and she’s passed out in the pool still.” Pope replied, pointing out the glass doors to where the floatie was still carrying John B and Sarah on the water.
“Let’s wake ‘em up then.” JJ slipped passed you, winking, before he ran outside, jumping into the pool and landing directly on top of John B and Sarah.
You, Pope, and Kiara rushed to the doors in time to see the floatie flip over, all three teens going under as Sarah shrieked and John B tried to grab any part of the inflatable raft. Sarah surfaced immediately after JJ, throwing her body on him and wrapping her arms around his neck as she tried to push him under.
“You asshole!” She screamed when JJ ducked under the water, twisting in her arms and grabbing her waist so that he could throw her off him.
You watched them for a minute longer, as John B finally got involved, before heading back into the house and going upstairs to change. You’d left your phone plugged in the bathroom outlet while you were sitting with JJ and you picked it up now to check your messages. Two from Rafe and one, unsurprisingly, from Topper. It’d been him at the end of the hall that called Rafe away from you.
-You okay?- was all the text said and you quickly responded.
-Nothing happened. Thx-
You deleted the messages from Rafe without looking at them. You could hear everyone come in the kitchen, footsteps on the stairs as John B, Sarah, and JJ came up to change. You pulled on a crop top and some shorts, pocketing your phone before hurrying downstairs.
Kiara and Pope were back to hanging around the island, talking to each other about their plans as you entered.
“Hey, do you guys wanna meet up later on the boardwalk?” Kiara asked, “we could do dinner or something?”
“Sounds good to me.” You replied, grabbing your backpack from the chair and making sure that you had everything you needed. “There’s a pizza place near the South street entrance that has incredible food, plus it’s super cheap.”
“I do love cheap food.”
-
You had locked your shorts and your backpack in the rented locker of the water park along with JJ’s backpack before the two of you headed for any of the rides. Both your phones locked away in your backpack, cutting you both off from the rest of the world for however long JJ felt like staying at the water park.
“So? Where to first?” You asked as JJ stopped in front of a mounted map of the park. It wasn’t as big as Dorney or Six Flags but it was pretty expansive for being an extension of the boardwalk.
“Shush, I’m consulting the map.”
“Consult the bones,” you said and JJ laughed, casting you a glance before going back to the map.
“Come on,” he grabbed your hand suddenly, having zeroed in on a ride titled the constrictor, 450 feet of enclosed water slide and the two of you were going down it.
He weaved his way through the crowd of people, leading you closer and closer to the line for the slide. Most people were at the beach on the weekdays which meant a shorter wait line, something JJ was happy about. It was bad enough he was spending his day at some dumb water park with you, he didn’t want to have to wait in line too. Although, he hadn’t let your hand go yet.
“Should I mention before or after we ascend these stairs that I have a mild fear of heights?” You asked, taking the raft that was offered to you by the water park employee.
“It’s fine,” JJ assured you, “here go ahead of me.”
“How does this help?” You asked as you stepped in front of him onto the first stair.
JJ shifted his raft under his arm, pressing it against his body and holding onto the railing while he used his other hand to hold you, fingers brushing the skin above your bikini bottoms as he held your waist. “See.”
You bit your lip and took a deep breath, “yeah I see.”
The rest of the way up the stairs JJ kept his hand on either your waist or your back. He wasn’t too thrilled with heights either though focusing on the peach bikinis bottoms you wore, little pineapples polkadotting them. He could imagine you totally smacking him in the face of you knew but he’d take his chances.
As sly as he might’ve thought he was being you knew he was looking. When you turned around at the first platform before the stairs twisted you caught him looking down, eyes darting up quickly when he realized you were looking at him. You didn’t say anything, just turned back around so he wouldn’t see the satisfied smile on your face.
“You ready for this?” JJ asked as you stepped onto the final platform, JJ stepping up behind you.
“I’ll see you at the bottom Maybank.” You replied, stepping over to your slide while JJ got set up at his.
You liked waterparks for the lazy rivers and the wave pools and those crazy contraptions for kids that looked like towering pipes and dumped water on you. Even the log flume was fun. But giant enclosed slides that shot you through winding loops for endless feet until finally dumping you in a pool? Not your favorite. But as you looked over at JJ, who flashed you a thumbs up, you were having trouble thinking about the things you didn’t like.
The slide was over before you knew it and you were climbing out of the pool, JJ standing on the side waiting for you. “How did you beat me?”
“I’m like speed racer,” he said, making a wooshing sound as he glided one hand under the other like a wave.
“Well, speedracer, what next?” You asked, taking off your soaked shirt and wringing it out as you followed JJ back to the map. “Are we consulting the map again?”
“What you think I memorized it?” He asked, looking back over his shoulder at you and grabbing your hand when a woman with a stroller tried to squeeze between the two of you.
-
By the time you and JJ met up with Kiara and Pope and made it back to the house Sarah was already setting up for a party. John B had obviously been enlisted to help as he was trying to adhere light stripes at the top of the wall in the living room.
“What’d you do rob a liqour store?” You asked, grabbing the leg of the ladder he was on when he leaned to far to the left.
“Feels like it.” John B replied, “Sarah filled a cart. We’re either having a party or she’s turning into everyone’s alcoholic grandmother.”
“We’re having a party!” Sarah called, coming in from the pool area, “it’s exactly what we need.”
“Why do we need to host a party?” Kiara asked, looking back at JJ and Pope but they just shrugged, obviously not willing to get involved.
“Because morale is low here people.” Sarah replied, “and it’s senior week, duh.”
“Duh.” You repeated, raising your eyebrows and grinning at JJ who laughed. Sarah watched the interaction skeptically, as far as she knew John B’s best friend had complained of nothing but a bad time. Now he was joking with you like the two of you were friends.
“Can I talk to you,” she grabbed your arm to pull you out of the room, “Pope hold the ladder!”
“Oh cool the bathroom.” You muttered as she dragged you into the hall powder room, shutting the door behind her and trapping the two of you in the crammed space. “What’s up?”
“What’s up? What’s going on with you and JJ?”
“Didn’t we do this literally yesterday?” You questioned, “I said then and I'll say now, JJ and I are barely friends.”
“Except when I texted Kie earlier cause I couldn’t get a hold of you she said you and JJ were on the boardwalk together.”
“Oh, oh my god Sarah, you’re right, something is clearly ‘going on’ because I went on the boardwalk with someone instead of just ignoring the people living in my house.” You rolled your eyes at her accusation that something was going on though you sincerely hoped something was.
When she finally released you from the bathroom the two of you resumed getting ready before you changed into something more appropriate for the party. NC parties were slow going in the early hours until they finally picked up, mostly just crowds of people crammed in an empty rental or spread out on the beach. House parties in the Keys happened a little more erratically. People showed up while it was still light out, hanging around the pool drinking and shit talking until it got dark and they all migrated inside, drunk off their asses and louder than necessary.
You had moved the table and chairs in the dining room and pushed all the furniture back in the living room for good reason because the minute the sun went down it felt like everyone was spilling back into the house for part 2. You were in the kitchen, ignoring most everyone there, watching JJ set up a shot for Kiara.
“Is it lime and then salt or salt and then lime?” He asked, glancing at you.
You were leaned against the counter beside him and Kiara was on the other side with Pope, who already said twice he wanted no part in this. “Lime first, how else does the salt stick right? I don’t remember...I know how to do a body shot.”
“Are you offering?” The grin on JJ’s face as he asked had you practically melting in your spot.
“Guys!” Kiara leaned across the island, snapping her fingers, “can we please just do the shot!”
“Right, sorry.” You apologized, grabbing the bottle of tequila to pour for them.
While the three of you were talking Pope spun in his chair, observing the louder parts of the party that was raging on the first floor. There were a few people lingering in the kitchen with you, mostly to be closest to the alcohol, but otherwise everyone was contained to the living room, dining room, and pool. When he looked out the glass doors to the pool area he frowned, “hey guys, look who showed up.”
You looked out the door to see Topper on the patio chatting with some local. “I’ll be right back.”
“Can we just enjoy the party?” Pope called though you were already slipping out the door.
“Top,” you called not caring that you were interrupting him, “can I talk to you?”
He apologized to the girl before placing his hand on your back and leading you further away from the party, stopping once the two of you had stepped onto the sand path down to the beach. “Look, someone texted Rafe about the party alright.”
“Well I don’t want you guys here.” You replied, “you weren’t invited by me and it’s my house.”
“Hey come on, you know me alright, I’m not trying to start anything-”
“Doesn’t sound like the Topper I know.”
“That wasn’t me alright, Sarah made me a little crazy, I'll admit. But I’m over that.” Topper replied. “I don’t understand why you and Rafe broke up and suddenly you can’t hang with any of us.”
“Are you still friends with Rafe?”
“That’s not fair, we’ve been-”
“I don’t care. You know what happened. You want me to be friends with you Top? After what you and Kelce did. Look, thanks for last night but I don’t need your guilty conscience looking out for me. I need you to get your boys and get the fuck out my house.”
“Putting on the tough act for Topper?” Rafe’s voice came from behind you and you closed your eyes, jaw tensing at the sound.
“It’s fine man, we’re just talking.” Topper replied, stepping closer to you.
You opened your eyes and turned around to see Rafe and Kelce standing there, “actually I will tell you the same thing I told Top, get the fuck off my property.”
“Damn,” Rafe whistled, “you start hanging with the pogues and suddenly you think you’re tough shit.”
“Hey man, let’s just forget it.” Topper said, getting between you and Rafe.
Rafe put his hand on Topper’s shoulder, guiding him out of the way, “you go ahead, I need to talk to my girlfriend.”
“Ex-girlfriend.” You replied, “I said we were done and I meant it.”
Pope had been watching you talk to Topper from the kitchen door and when he saw Rafe and Kelce join the two of you on the catwalk he’d broken up JJ and Kiara’s shot game to tell them something was going down and you were out there alone.
“Maybe she’s just talking to them.” Kiara shrugged, “I mean, she is a kook. Her and Rafe used to date too so...”
“She dated Rafe?” JJ asked, eyes wide at the implication.
“Oh yeah, she broke it off a couple times but they always got back together. Sarah told me she thinks they might get back together again.”
Pope frowned, thinking of the way you had looked this morning when he accused you of doing just that, “I don’t think so. We should make sure she’s okay.”
“I’ll get John B.” Kiara replied, making her way to the living room to find John B and Sarah.
JJ and Pope meanwhile, headed outside, coming up behind Kelce just as you told Rafe that you were never getting back together with him. You saw the two of them passed Kelce’s shoulder and your best at a subtle shake of the head, a silent ‘please go back inside’. But Topper saw them too and alerted Rafe to their presence.
“Kelce wasn’t lying Maybank, you really have turned into a guard dog haven’t you.” Rafe said, turning his full attention on JJ. Topper pulled you to the other side of the path and pushed you behind him as Kiara, Sarah, and John B walked up.
“Fuck off Rafe, you aren’t welcome here.” Kiara cut in before JJ could reply.
“I didn’t know you owned the place.” Kelce challenged.
“I already fucking told you to go!” You said, “so go!”
Rafe only smiled, looking at JJ still, “what pair you guys make man. A bitch and her dog.”
Without warning JJ lunged forward, shoving Rafe back and swinging, trying to punch him. When Kelce tried to grab him John B intervened, getting Kelce in a choke hold. It took a second for all six of the boys to become involved in the fight as Kiara urged Sarah to call the cops. Rafe punched JJ, sending him back into the sand and getting on top of him, hitting him repeatedly while Topper held off Pope and John B and Kelce fought with each other.
“Stop it,” Kiara grabbed at Topper, trying to pull him off Pope and Sarah just stood there frozen.
You went for Rafe, trying to push him off JJ. When you grabbed his arm he pulled away only to throw his elbow back, colliding with your stomach and sending you to the ground. It was all the momentum that JJ seemed to need to shove Rafe off him and get the upper hand, kicking him in the stomach a couple times.
“Get the fuck out!” He shouted, spitting on your ex-boyfriend.
Topper let go of Pope and grabbed Rafe’s arm, helping him up and pulling him away, Kelce breaking away from John B and following them back to theirs, away from the party. The six of you stood there in silence, trying to process what had just happened.
“Some party.” Pope finally said and Kiara glared at him.
“Didn’t I say this week would be shit.” JJ said, looking over at you before turning and heading out toward the beach.
“Let’s just go back inside.” Sarah pleaded.
“Why were they even here?” Pope asked, casting a glance your way.
“Topper said someone texted Rafe about the party.” You said, “could have been anyone...he’s been down here with me before, he knows some of my Keys friends.”
“Whatever,” Kiara cut in, “we have three days left and I would love if we could just, not see them again for 72 hours. Is that possible?”
“I hope so.”
-
“I had a feeling you’d still be out here.” You said, walking up behind JJ on the beach. The light from the houses behind you did little to illuminate the night. The waves were lapping up the sand at JJ’s feet and he made no sign that he even knew you were there. You dropped the blanket you had around your shoulders and sat down, not bothering to straighten out the corners. “I know you’re pissed-“
“I’m not pissed.” He said, digging his heels in further. “I just...you and Rafe, seriously?”
“It was different, at the beginning.”
“That’s just an excuse.”
“Maybe but...I was 14 when we first started dating and I really thought he liked me. But, he just liked that I was insecure and he tries to remind me of that every time he sees me.” You explained. “Rafe being down here doesn’t change what happened at the water park, I didn’t just kiss you because of him.”
It’d happened during the lazy river ride that you had forced JJ to go on. He had spent most of the ride pushing your innertube with his foot and trying to tip you until it finally happened and you went over, sputtering to the surface and trying to grab at your inflatable tube as passersby tried to avoid the two of you. You’d pushed his innertube over in retaliation and he’d abandoned it to grab you and try to dunk you underwater.
Serendipitous maybe, as you twisted in his arms, turning to face him, he’d leaned down and kissed you.
“He keeps showing up.”
“I didn’t invite him.”
JJ looked back at you before rubbing the heel of his hand across his cheeks and sniffing to get rid of the literal waterworks he’d been two seconds away from. This wasn’t the vacation he had signed up for. And maybe there had been some good parts so far but the complicated bits were starting to outweigh everything else. Still, he shifted back so he could sit on the blanket with you; a step in the right direction you hoped.
“What’s in the bag?” He asked, looking over at the backpack you’d carried all the way out here with you.
“I didn’t think you would want to go back to the party so I brought the party with me.” You replied, unzipping the main compartment to reveal the alcohol you had swiped from the house. “I don’t know if you wanna party with me-“
“Shut up and pass me a beer.”
You smiled, grabbing a beer from the bag and handing it to JJ. Without warning he grabbed your wrist and pulled you toward him, leaning back on his other elbow as he did. You caught yourself, pressing your hand into the blanket to hold yourself up and realizing you were hovering over him.
“I, uh-“ you stammered, licking your lips briefly before JJ let go of your wrist and put his hand on the back of your neck, leading you into a kiss. You kissed back, ignoring the feeling of the beer bottle cap scratching your hand as you shifted to be closer to JJ, moving your knee between his legs so you were almost straddling him.
“Are you sure?” You asked when you pulled away to move your hand from the beer bottle. You frowned when you glanced at it, holding it up so JJ could see the cut. He took your wrist, kissing over the small cut on your palm. “I’m not really good at casual things,” you admitted.
“Is that what this is?”
You shook your head before leaning in to kiss him again. While you held yourself up with the hand that had been cut by the beer bottle your other hand moved to JJ’s stomach, fingers slipping beneath his shirt and dancing along the soft skin of his abdomen, just above his shorts. His grip on the back of your neck tightened ever so slightly as he held your face to his, pulling out of the kiss for the briefest of moments to look at you, “Are you sure?” He repeated your question though it had a different meaning.
“Yeah.” You nodded. It was dead on the beach this time of night and you were far enough down toward the water that no one could really see you from the houses though that didn’t stop this from being the most daring thing you’d ever done.
JJ shifted so that he was laying back on the blanket, pushing the backpack away from his body as you straddled his waist. His hands went to your hips, running over your ass and settling on the backs of your thighs when you leaned all the way forward to kiss him, bodies practically pressed together. You kissed along his jaw and down his neck, sucking a bruise into his skin. JJ’s breathing picked up as your right hand moved between your bodies, fingers unbuttoning and unzipping his shorts before you slipped your hand beneath them, grasping him. JJ bit down on his lip as he moaned, the sound coming up from his chest.
You pulled away from him, cool air rushing between your bodies as you sat back on your heels. He watched you, heart pounding in his chest, as you put your hands on the waistband of his shorts, ready to pull them down, “God, why are you not in a swimsuit.”
“Excuse me for not knowing I was gonna get lucky on the beach.”
“I’m gonna leave you on the beach for saying that,” you teased.
JJ’s hands held you in a vice grip, squeezing your hips, “not a chance.” He replied. He ran his hands up your sides to the hem of your bralette, fingers nudging the fabric up and you caught on to what he wanted, obliging him by lifting the top up over your head and tossing it to the side.
Your original plan of action went to hell though you could be upset when JJ wrapped his arms around your back and sat himself up, knocking you back and laying you down so he could hover over you. You wrapped your arms around his shoulders as he kissed you.
“That was a neat trick.” You managed as he mirrored the hickey you’d left on him on your own neck. He smiled against your skin as his right hand moved across your stomach, fingers brushing against the underside of your breast. His mouth travelled down from your neck, kissing between your breasts before moving to the left, tongue darting out to flick over your nipple. His fingers twisted your other nipple at the same time and you tensed, hips shooting up to try and create some friction with his own. He sucks another bruise into your skin, just below your left breast before moving back up to kiss you.
The new position made it easier to get his shorts and briefs down and you manage to push them down to his thighs after you rid yourself of your own shorts. JJ leans his forehead against your collar, looking down at you with a sly smile. “No underwear?”
“I was in a hurry to get dressed.” You insisted, “now shut up.”
“I’m not the chatty one.”
“I’m not - holy shit!” You cursed as he slipped his hand between your thighs, coating his fingers before rubbing your clit. His middle finger circled the bundle of nerves before slipping down inside of you, just barely offering anything before repeating the cycle. When he kissed you he slipped his tongue in your mouth and you bit down gently, not enough to hurt him but enough to getting him going.
You tried to press yourself up into his hand but he pushed you down, slick fingers digging into your skin as he pressed you against the blanket. You whimpered when he pushed his hips into yours, his dick rubbing over your clit and you grip his hair as he tilts his head down to kiss and nip at your breasts again.
“Please, Jay,” you begged, unashamed and completely oblivious to your surroundings as he lined himself up and thrust in to you. He stilled for a moment once he was completely in, savoring the feeling of you until you tugged his hair. “Move.”
“God, you’re so desperate for me.” He teased, kissing beneath your chin and along your neck.
Finally he moves, thrusting into you. His pace quickens and you wrap your arms around him, digging your fingers into his back. He groans from the almost pain of the feeling, his hips hitting yours harder to give back as much as you’re giving him. You pulled him closer so that you could kiss him again. You’d be lying if you said that you had been on edge with JJ all day. That every touch and smile, the kiss in the lazy river, it all felt like foreplay as he thrust into you now, slipping his hand between your legs to rub your clit as he did, pushing you closer to the edge.
“JJ,” you whimpered, muscles in your stomach clenching as you felt yourself approaching your high.
JJ pressed his face into your neck, biting again at your collar, “I know,” was all he said, repeating it again when the rhythm he’d built up wavered slightly as he felt his own release approaching, “I know.”
One hand fisted the blanket beneath you as your release hit. You came, his name the only thing you could think of, and he came right after, the feeling of you tightening around him enough to pull an orgasm out of him. JJ held himself up on one arm, trembling above you, still connected as his hips still, his eyes on yours.
You sucked in a breath as he kissed the tender skin of your collar, red from his teeth, “have you ever gone skinny dipping?” You asked.
“Not in the Keys.” He replied, letting his upper body fall against you as well, all of him pressing into you.
“When I can move again...want to?”

Where Do We Go? |Chapter One| JJ Maybank x Reader
Summary - Y/N is a Mainlander who has just moved to The Cut. When she meets her new neighbor, she just may have found the family she’s been searching for, and more.
gif credit @toesure
Warnings - None
Word count - 1.8k
A/N - This is the first fanfic I’ve written in about 3 years, so I genuinely hope you all like it! Gimme all of the three C’s: comments, concerns... cuestions. This is only the first part of the series, so if you would like to be tagged, just ask!
It’s never easy to start something over, especially when that ‘something’ happens to be your entire life.
If given the option, you would have left your home a long time ago, but there's only so much that a 17-year-old can do on her own. You smile drunkenly as you feel the summer sun shining on your skin, wind whipping your hair around your face wildly. The scent of the briny sea lingering in your nostrils as you pull into the road leading to your new home.
Outer Banks is supposed to be Paradise On Earth, and you can see why. After only being here for a few hours, you have already decided that you wouldn't really mind if you never leave this island again. A life on your own is what you’d always dreamed of, and you’re still a little dazed at the fact that it's finally your reality. After all of the sleepless nights consisting of fights, double shifts at the hotel near your house, and what seemed like an entirety of planning, you can finally go off on your own adventure.
You pull your car into the drive of the new home. Your new home. Cutting the ignition, you hop out of the beat-up Jeep and begin unloading your suitcases to bring inside. Off in the distance, you spot a group of kids that seemed to be around your age, all dancing to a beat blaring from one of their speakers. Beer cans were seized in each of their hands, and a joint was fixed between the lips of one boy. They all were giggling and chanting as a brunette boy tried to chug his drink, the booze dribbling out of the sides of his mouth and onto the grass. The happy sight made you let out a breath you didn’t know you had been holding. You were such a straight-edge compared to these teenagers, never having had more than a sip of your mother’s wine while she wasn’t looking. Seeing them all with broad smiles plastered on their faces made you anxious, but yet something within you yearned to join them. To spin and howl and beam with all of them until the day turned into night, and the night turned into dawn. Maybe you would be able to fit in here after all, even if it takes some smoothing of your rough edges.
The group all looked in your direction after the dark-haired girl pointed you out, all of them pausing their twirling and jumping to acknowledge the new girl. They all give you a look of friendliness once your eyes meet, but the blonde with the joint flashed you a big smile and waved his entire arm at you, clearly wanting to be the center of attention. You felt your cheeks turn a shade crimson when you realized they were looking at you, but you give them a grin as you wave back before returning to pull all of your bags up to the front porch. You turned back to get one last look at the teenagers before you had to set foot in your house. The set seemed to have realized that the new neighbor may not want to hear their noisiness, as they had pulled their speaker and cooler a little ways away to the dock near a house, which you assumed had to belong to at least one of them.
Turning back to face your new front door, you took a deep breath to still your mind. This is it, this is your new beginning.
•
Okay, so unpacking is pretty damn boring as it turns out. And honestly, with weather this nice, how can I be expected to stay focused on a task that’s just so dull? I, at least, got my bags inside and some clothes placed in drawers, but it didn’t take long before my mind wandered and I step out into the backyard. This house may have seen some better days, but the view is to die for. Living life on a lake may not be ideal for everyone, but it is for me. Fishing, hammocks, and laying on a boat on a sunny day are all I could ever ask for. Even though I may not have a boat yet, I do have a hammock, and I’ll be damned if those aren’t good for some afternoon and I-have-a-lot-of-shit-to-do naps! I spot a couple of trees a few yards away from my new home to set up my new napping spot. After I finish tying off the support ropes into sturdy(ish) knots, I crawl into the netted bed, only needing steadying myself by flinging my arms around once (which, might I add, is quite good by my standards). Finally being able to rest my body after all of the moving and anxiety of the day feels so lovely. With the glow of the soft evening sun warming my skin in small beams through the tree leaves, I hardly notice how heavy my eyelids become, and definitely don’t mind when I drift off into sleep.
My dream is filled with the small party of teens from earlier today, but this time I’ve joined them. Now, I’m jumping and cackling with all of them while sneakily stealing the snapback off of one of the boy’s heads. I’m giggling as I toss my arm around the dark-haired girl and blonde boy, turning to give him a cheeky smile as he looks to me. Suddenly, his face is all I see.
“Hi… Uh, hey? You awake?”
I rush to stand up and immediately regret it. As I try to get up, I end up flailing like a fish and tumbling out of the hammock, falling onto my back and groaning. I look up to see where the voice came from, and find blue eyes piercing into my own.
“Shit, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to spook you like that. Here, can I help you up?” The boy asks, extending his hand to me. I gladly accept the help and get to my feet. I see that it’s now dark out and the stars are lighting up the night sky. “Again, I’m really sorry I scared you. But maybe be more careful next time getting outta that hammock, yeah? You kinda looked like a fish flopping out of water,” the boy chuckled, running his hand through his hair. Is it me being tired or… is he being extremely cute?
I gave him a little smile as my cheeks flush with color. “It’s alright, I’m not broken or anything. But, I do think that the least you can do for so rudely interrupting my nap is telling me your name.”
“Oh right,” the blonde chuckles, ”I’m JJ. My friends and I are actually throwing a kegger tonight at the boneyard, and I was trying to be neighborly and invite you. You know, make friends and all? You seem about our age, sixteen or seventeen, right? Life here is much easier with friends, you know. Oh!” JJ exclaims, “Do you know where the boneyard is?” He questions. When I shake my head at him, he grins at me mischievously. “Shame. Guess I’ll have to drag you there so you can join in. But first, I’ve gotta get your name.”
“Y/N,” I respond while smoothing down my hair and picking a few pieces of dirt from it. “But ‘The Boneyard’ sounds pretty ominous, what kinda place are you taking me to? And I don’t even know you or your friends, really. So how do I know you’re not just kidnapping me?”
JJ reaches over and pulls a small twig out of my hair. “Well, Y/N, I don’t know you. How do I know you aren’t some kind of axe murderer? Besides, do I look like I need to kidnap a girl just to get her attention?” JJ asks me with a smug look on his face.
“Touché, JJ. I guess I can come to this ‘boneyard’ with you.” JJ holds his hand out to me for a high-five, grinning wildly. I roll my eyes and slap his hand weakly.
“Wow, I literally just felt myself become depressed from that high-five.”
I give him a little shove on the shoulder and start to walk ahead of him. “So, ya gonna take me to this “Boneyard,” or what?”
“Yes, however, you are going the exact wrong way.”
“Oh.”
“C’mon, doll.” JJ takes my small hand into his and starts off towards the Boneyard. From being a few steps behind him, I can just make out the outlines of JJ’s shoulder blades peeking through the sides of his cut-off tee. The heat rose to my cheeks, realizing that this incredibly attractive boy is now taking me to meet his – likely – equally attractive friends, and he’s a major flirt. How in the hell am I going to keep up with this man? Figuratively and literally, his legs are way longer than mine, and I’m practically stumbling over my own two feet just trying to keep the same pace as him.
“So, Y/N, you’re from the mainland, yeah?” The boy questioned, looking over his shoulder to check on me as I nodded to him. “What in the hell made you move to The Cut?”
“Um, well, that’s a bit of a long story as to why I moved. But, what’s The Cut? Is that what you call it here?”
“Well, The Cut is the south side of the island, its where all of us who’re in the working class live, The Pogues, if you will. Figure Eight is where all of the Kooks come from. Y’know, the ones who sit around and play with Daddy’s Money all goddamned day,” JJ spat out the last part. “I’m just wondering why you would choose to move to our side, especially when you had a choice in the matter. I grew up in The Cut — All of the pogues did. Why not go full Kook?”
“Well, back on the mainland I was from a working-class family. I dunno, I wouldn’t have fit in with all of the mansions, and country clubs, and board shorts, I don’t think.” I shrugged my shoulders at him, “I wasn’t made for that kind of life.”
JJ nodded understandingly before beaming at me, “Well, I think you’re going to fit in quite well here, Y/N.” The boy stopped walking and I came to stand at his side, our shoulders brushing against each other. “Welcome to the Boneyard, babe.”
It truly was a sight to see. Teens were sat on fallen driftwood, all huddled around different bonfires, red solo cups in hands. Odd mixes of sunburned kids, girls dressed in oversized tees and jean shorts, preppy-clothed boys all mingled together, seeming to put aside any inequalities just for the night. People drifted from group to group, some gathered at the keg, and some simply standing and chatting as they drank. I grinned at the view ahead, knowing this was only the first of many parties to attend. I look to my side to see JJ’s blue eyes focused on me, and I tried to swallow down the fluttering feeling in my chest.
“Let’s go warm up, yeah?”

Last updated Sept 10 2021 !
Perpetuity => https://archiveofourown.org/works/12835047
Written pre-epilogues, largely about mending damaged bridges after the game. I always mention this fic as what settled me back into hs as a fandom and dirk/jake
A Palate Cleanser => https://archiveofourown.org/works/21642637
The jake eulogy we missed on candy. it’s real good. (now with a podfic version on the second chapter!!!!)

Their guardians dead at the hands of the Condesce, growing up in the shadow of her slow takeover of the Skaian Federation, Dirk Strider and Jake English have spent their whole lives alone up until shortly before their twelfth birthdays.
Or: Dirk fixes a transmitter, makes a friend, builds a robot, and tries to communicate affection over distance to the barest possible minimum.
(A good mix of fluff/angst/yearning, captures early & friendship dirkjake REALLY well, a good analogue au to their canon upbringing!!)
Sburgatoria => https://archiveofourown.org/works/20726822/chapters/49242167
What if we were four lesbians stuck in an uncanny valley real housewives purgatory-esque-suburbia and we bickered then kissed 😳
Prologos

What Happens In-Between =>
https://archiveofourown.org/works/24240424/chapters/58409713
i KNOW you aren’t done with jaded fisheries observer vriska just yet and for that i’m thankful to say, we have a sequel, and dirk is in it to her great annoyance
Drive it home with one headlight => https://archiveofourown.org/works/19281412/chapters/45856705
The Hitchhikers Guide to Your Ex-Boyfriend ==>
https://archiveofourown.org/works/25747519/chapters/62875855
EXTENSIVELY ILLUSTRATED!!!! Post-canon fanadventure focusing on jake, brain ghost dirk, and a very concerned third party inhabiting jake’s brain that isn’t all too happy with the current turn of dubiously canon events. Still updating, very fun and smart.
The Four Kings, the God Thief, and the Black Diamond Pirates =>
https://archiveofourown.org/works/17886581/chapters/42220607
DIRK AND VRISKA. PIRACY. SONG. HOES (JAKE)
Sea shanties for Thots (Four kings sequel) =>
https://archiveofourown.org/works/22210135/chapters/53028541
jake needs to adjust to his new life and occupation overseas, ft; more songs, more piracy, and schrodinger’s hoe. Extensively jake-introspective, told through his POV.
Song of the Pyre =>
https://archiveofourown.org/works/10875459/chapters/24161439
EPIC SCALE vrisrezi space opera ft. hardass legislacerator Terezi & outlaw Vriska being forced to work together after they sort-of-accidentally kill terezi’s shitty clown ex. Feelings are caught, trials are held, there’s a revolution coming. Delightfully written. Reads as pretty solid and complete despite the 19/21 chapters done - ACT 1 counts as a book of its own, ACT 2 is solid.
Pilot Light, Pale rapture (full series) => https://archiveofourown.org/series/1403233
“They want you on Olympus, they want you on a faraway star watching the planet turn benignly. They want the original Gods in the four corners of the earth, protectors in an invisible palace. “And the Witch sat vigil in her southern eastmost realm, looking down upon her descendants,” they’d say, “and saw that it was good.
You do not have an Olympus. You have a house that smells like burnt toast, because Davepeta did just that only an hour ago.”
Prospit kids + Really Good and Fun earth C shenanigans ensue. Incredible insightful exploration on Jade, her childhood, and mostly what happens after the curtains close and she finally has time to be awake.
After Meat, Aftermath. (full series) => https://archiveofourown.org/series/1420354
In one universe, college!au Rose lalonde takes barre classes. In another, arguably more relevant one, Rosebot peers into her life. this will lead to inevitable chaos. incredible rose + kanaya + vriska + jake + dirk focus and one of my fav AU’s.
*below are my favorite dirk-focused works:*
Detective Pony
https://archiveofourown.org/works/2427119/chapters/5371283
At first I didn’t include this one, having taken for granted that everyone had read it already, but I think as of ‘21 the fandom is a bit different and not many have. Snake-Birds and villainy (or not)
This is sort of an extended reply to this ask
I’m a Snake Bird.
Oddly enough, I have incredibly few favorite characters who are Also Snake Birds.
...Okay, actually. That’s not strictly accurate. It’s more accurate that I’m not Infatuated with many true Snake Bird characters.
I have a number of characters who I Like who are Snake Birds. But it’s often painful to watch Snake-primary characters navigate a narrative. Anyone who writes will be familiar with old advice that goes something like this: “Stuck!? Find something Bad for your ink-baby to deal with”
Snake Primaries’ motivations are their people and those people are the center of their souls, so to have that threatened and just raw-nerve exposed can be great for nail-biting on-the-edge sort of action (ie Breaking Bad) or just make me, a sympathetic Snake, want to claw my heart out. For Bird Secondary characters this can also be hard to deal with as part of the narrative because Birds thrive on being... overprepared. And they need time to research (or have people they trust provide new information) when they are thwarted, which means pacing out the story to account for that time. And Deus Ex Machina is out, so the Bird-second really has to do the work themselves or end up a bag of [less-effectual] nerves.
This is part of why Snake Birds are not popular protagonist material and they’re more often the villains. They may occasionally be sidekicks or partners (think “dueling-second” type partners more than “I am also the leader” type of partners). Stiles Stilinski is probably a fandom favorite example for this type of Snake Bird. (Hi “house favorite” ‘nonnie, congratulations on also getting me to really expose the fact that I consume too much questionable media and find things to like about it, although I really don’t think Teen Wolf was that bad).
Stiles is ruthlessly loyal towards his best friend Scott, and only a little softer with Lydia because she’s almost more ruthless than he is and secondary-matches with him and they both understand what it’s like to hide part of that because it would scare the people they love or want to be loved by. But he wears himself to exhaustion researching and investigating because the monsters he faces are Time Sensitive, because His People are In Danger, and [he believes] only he knows enough to do anything about it. People can and have written “what if’s” with Stiles as the protagonist though and it’s a darker story because this cold-house combo, when called on to be the hero on their own, is not stereotypically concerned with any greater good, can, and will take out the source of the problem asap and erm permanently so it can’t come back and try hurting Their People again.
Oddly enough, Teen Wolf works with Stiles as a sort of secondary-protagonist because Scott, the main protagonist, is a Double Puff and the Hufflepuff secondary also likes putting in the work. This slows down the narrative enough for Stiles to keep up (which sounds funny when you think of Stiles literally being one of the smartest people in his school).
There are very few of the Lions among the Teen Wolf cast (actually they killed the only one from the original ensemble which probably says something about the writers. Jeff Davis also produced Criminal Minds and we see a similar lack of Lion secondaries there) and this simply changes what you can do with the pacing. In the show actually, a majority of the antagonists are Lion flavored, which is unusual and what really what provides a lot of the urgency needed to move the story along.
I haven’t sorted Breaking Bad, but @wisteria-lodge has added some of the characters to her live sorting list, and I agree that Walter White might be the Snakiest-Birdiest protagonist ever. And I haven’t finished the series At All so I don’t even knows if he stays the protagonist (as opposed to some kind of anti-hero) because it hits the line between edge-of-seat suspense and eat-your-heart-out. As far as a story goes, there’s a reason Breaking Bad is such a famous show, but it’s also uniquely un-bingeable because the result is (at least for this introvert) something almost as bad as a post-concert drop.
Spoilers and further conversation below because some of you have probably gotten tired of my ramblings:
Another likely Snake Bird candidate is James Flint of Black Sails. (See! I do have taste!!)
I hesitate to name him a Bird Secondary though because he is so single-minded (at least to the point in the show I am) in his quest to wrest control of Nassau from the British. He’s decided realizing the dream that killed one of his lovers is the only way he will ever be able to give Thomas’ memory a measure of peace. Doing everything in Thomas’ name is a pretty Snake Primary thing to do, and James Flint at least models Bird Second when he has the time. He likes to read and was able to learn multiple languages apparently, but I think that it was as much for the sake of being on the same page as Thomas and Miranda as anything else. He doesn’t have time to pursue knowledge for the sake of it and tends to kill his way through problems if he has no other options. It’s far more likely to be that he is a Snake Primary Lion Secondary with a fairly developed and mature Bird Secondary that he uses to tweak the direction of his Lion’s charge, but at this point neither make him happy because his Snake is so torn up with Thomas’ fate he’s ready to burn the world.
Anyhow it’s more common for Snake Birds to play the villains or not to “play” at all. The Snake with their people in place is a Snake that can and will follow their persons’ lead, and is internal with the rest of the Primary and Secondary performance so they’re harder to drag into the narrative action
If you want to force a Snake to act, once again, threaten their people. A Snake without their people to protect (and be morality pets to some extent), and all the Bird resources to be able to plan a dozen way towards their enemy’s downfall, that’s an easy villain. And one that has a readily available arsenal of plot-worthy obstacles to throw in the way of your hero combined with the grief-fueled rage to never stop.
That’s what Thor’s Loki is about. He can’t get his father’s approval and he’s sick to death of being shown that his brother, his most important person, doesn’t appreciate him, and then on top of that he learns he’s not really a son or brother, so he goes ballistic. (He’s at least modelling a Snake breakdown, but he also tries to make places to belong, so I’m still not sure if he’s a Bird instead. More on that after June I guess).
Tl;dr
Snake Birds are easy villains and I’m not going to deny that a lot of us love whipping up a good plot (that was a writing pun it’s okay to laugh) so the giant axes swinging from the ceiling? the pit full of alligators? the seventeenth iteration of the kidnapping attempt in Megamind? yeah, a bored Bird Secondary could have come up with all that stuff.
If any of you are writers, having a Bird Secondary protagonist is Hard and having a Bird Secondary in your ensemble is Still Hard unless they’re a rapid-fire bird with plans to spare, has resources ready to go, or the ensemble is built in a way that supports the kind of time a Bird Secondary needs to regroup if their plans are foiled.
Also watching people who house match exactly with you in media is hard and painful but also really validating and everyone should have that experience at least once.

Ayesha Liveblogs Death Note
I’m watching this show specifically because of that text post that said, “Watch how quickly this one guy decides to be the worst person ever” and he has killed two people in the first ten minutes
Though 2 be fair he’s killing people to save people so it’s a trolley problem kind of thing for now
“In fact I’ve been waiting for you... Ryuk” ok weird flex Light but u do u
“You’re the first one to use to this extent in five days” WAIT DID HE MURDER ALL THOSE PEOPLE IN FIVE DAYS I THOUGHT HE WAS JUST LOOKING AT A LIST OH MY GOD??
“So there isn’t a price to using Death Note?” said Light, as if killing people is just a normal thing that we all do
Fhkjfhfkjb Ryuk really went ‘u used the book so we’re friends now’
I was wondering why the book was in English, and I guess that makes sense British and American imperialism really Did That
“I can write down the names of criminals, and slowly reduce the number of evil people” uhhhh doesn’t u being a Book Murderer also make you a criminal Light
“Human lives shouldn’t be taken so lightly” bah dum tss
Also I guess that revelation lasted about thirty seconds for you huh
Update from 15 seconds later: Even less than that
“I would create a world of earnest, kind humans” really because I don’t think places that allow the death penalty are generally nicer societies
It’s interesting that they use English in the classes and the notebook but the conversation at Interpol takes place in Japanese (despite the implied internationality and Ryuk’s aforementioned claim about English being most common)
Huh I won’t lie I do think it’s confusing that the main characters are L and Light, which also starts with L
“I am justice” I mean if anything this show just proves that no one should be allowed to use the death penalty on apprehended suspects in criminal justice cases ever
OH SHIT PLOT TWIST HIS DAD’S A COP (IT WAS IN THE TEXT POST I THINK BUT I FORGOT)
Wow this show is full of mind games already I guess I can see why like, crime show fans would dig it
“But I’m going to say this as your roommate” OH MY GOD THEY WERE ROOMMATES KJHRGKJHKJHG
Interesting that someone is following Light specifically already
I mean not to poke too many holes in your plan Light but wouldn’t it clash with your plan to become God if you die at like 35 or smth
“You’re already much more of a shinigami than they are” Ryuk said my friends are BORING I want to hang out with this MURDER TEEN
“I may not look it, but I’m pretty popular” Light is exactly the kind of guy who ends up in a true crime special where a bunch of people say he seemed like a nice, charismatic young man
Man this poor girl that Light brought on this date is going to be straight traumatized after this
I mean isn’t it MORE suspicious if someone dies around someone with direct ties to the police even if it’s not a heart attack
“You were indeed a brilliant FBI agent once, but now you’re my fiancée” kjhfkjhg WHAT FBI AGENTS CAN’T BE MARRIED
“Once we have a family, you’ll be so busy that you’ll forget that you were an agent” I’m not a fan of Raye Penber
What’s the point in killing Raye at all???? He told you he was part of a special investigation so clearly he’s not that suspicious of you
Light sure is bold to announce his Killing People Experiments in the middle of a busy sidewalk
Incredible that consistently no one notices Light’s increasingly threatening declarations????
Fjkfkfhk these five cops finding out their Hail Mary is this strange little goblin man,,,, wow
This woman has really pushed Light to the brink just by giving a fake name, I admire her tenacity
Cops wearing fake IDs really did not age well oh boy
SERIOUSLY HOW DOES NO ONE EVER HEAR LIGHT SAYING SUSPICIOUS THINGS IN PUBLIC THOROUGHFARES HE LITERALLY JUST SAID “I AM KIRA” AS A DETECTIVE WALKED BY, WHILE HE WAS TALKING TO SOMEONE HE KILLED IMMEDIATELY AFTER
Wow it really took only eight episodes for L to track Light as close as one of two families
“You have a wife and daughter, right?” “I know!” I mean..... not 2 be that guy but... cops
“To me, apples are like... Well, like cigarettes and liquor to humans” Vcvhcjhj every once in a while Ryuk says something that really tickles me
I know the word sociopath is kind of outdated but man does Light have actual interests outside of school or does he just do stuff to fill the void of his lack of interests (outside of murder)
JKHGKJHGKJHKJHG I cannot believe that this has turned into a fake classmate situation first of all 1) are you going to become friends and 2) How old are you Ryuzaki/L?
“Where is that rich kid from? And he’s even at the top of his class? What a jerk” honestly a mood
I DESPERATELY want Light’s mother or sister to overhear his evil cackling will someone finally eavesdrop on this god complex
“If I sit normally, my reasoning skills drop by 40%” weird flex but same
Sidenote: I can’t believe how many episodes of this show I already have watched
Ngl I was VERY shook that Mr. Yagami had a heart attack. Also does Light care if his family lives or dies or is he kind of neutral on the subject?
“If Kira is an ordinary person who gained this power, then he is a very unlucky person” Dad and L said ‘if u ARE Kira could you please stop murdering thank you <3′
Light really underestimated how much cops hate anyone who has killed a cop oops
OH SO IT’S NOT LIGHT I WAS WONDERING WHY HE HAD NOT MADE AN APPEARANCE THIS WHOLE EPISODE U MEAN THERE ARE TWO GUYS WITH THIS EXACT SAME IDEOLOGY AND PLAN? INCREDIBLE
Update from ten seconds later: Two people, I guess
Well this explains the girl in the short dress which serves as the Netflix thumbnail of this show I was wondering when she would show up
Also she sounds like she’s very young? Clearly Shinigami don’t have a minimum age of informed consent when it comes to their Murder Eyes Contract
Hahah I bet Light didn’t imagine that his petty and fucked up apple joke would bite him so quickly in the ass
Dhkjdhdkjhd Misa is so bold dropping her Death God deets in a video for anyone to see
“The way to kill a Shinigami, is to make them fall in love with a human” does this mean that Ryuk is going to fall in love with Light or Misa? Both would make me uncomfortable
Oh wild guess Misa became a Death Note Wielder through the Power of Unreciprocated Voyeuristic Love
“Yeah, I have a girlfriend now,” said Light, after a girl contacted him through a series of anonymous video tapes implicitly vowing to be his disciple
“No one could tell who he’s attached to if I’m with this many people” [20 seconds pass] “Found him!” HAHAHA the funniest part of this show is consistently watch Light going “got ‘em” before it immediately is revealed that he doesn’t got ‘em
Why is Light so incredibly searchable??? I think the only way people people could find my height online is if I happened to answer it for one of those Facebook note memes in 2007 lmaoooo
“There are many places that will go and sell your personal records” ah, data breaches; a problem that has not gotten any better in the last 15 years since this anime came out
HKJHFHKJFHF Light immediately jumping into fake-dating his weird disciple in front of his mom... what is this show
“Please make me your girlfriend” OH MY GOOOOOD
This is one of the weirdest romantic dynamics I’ve seen in recent memory but you know what? Whatever, at least it’s not Anxiety and Murder
“Does that mean I’ll have to deal with her until she dies?” Light is truly exuding some Ladybird Book of Dating Energy rn:
The fact that to kill L all Light had to do was get an obsessive girlfriend... astounding
Beautiful that it took Misa less than a week of knowing Light to ruin his whole 15 episode game plan and also life
“I think I may be Kira” Well this show keeps taking one escalation after another this is exhausting why can’t Light just be a normal person who found it, tried it out of interest in the occult, discovered he’d committed a horrible atrocity and then went to therapy for the rest of his life only to confess to Magical Murder on his deathbed while his family goes, ‘Wow, Grandpa’s crazy’
Does L not think that keeping three different people imprisoned for days on end will lead to some psychological repercussions for him
FOR WEEKS ON END????? OH MY GOD???? The fuck L, I know two of these people are murderers but there are some minimum conditions of correctional facilities and this seems a little Stanford PE
THE DRAMA OF THIS EPISODE I KNEW IT WAS GONNA BE A BLANK BUT HOW FUCKED UP TO PUT EVERYONE THROUGH THIS L I THINK YOU NEED THERAPY!!!!!!! I MEAN LIGHT AND MISA ARE MURDERERS BUT FORCING A MAN TO HOLD HIS SON AT GUNPOINT AFTER IMPRISONING THEM FOR OVER A MONTH IS REALLY A REFLECTION OF A COMPLETE LACK OF EMPATHY (especially when you think that this version of Misa and Light don’t know anything!!! Oh my god!! The fuck)
“I will make arrangements so you and I are together 24 hours a day” call me crazy but I would not want to spend 24/7 with the man who imprisoned me for over a month while playing cruel psychological games all the while
“I’m one of those people who’ll accept Kira, I’d think of ways I could help him” Misa said Bimbo Rights
“I could never toy with a woman’s emotions like that” Light’s dating life and personality has gotten a LOT funnier since he forgot he was a murderer I kind of wish THIS could be the whole show
Also: Nice to know Light USED to have standards of how to treat women
Honestly fair play to both L and Light they both deserved to be punched and it’s funny to see eighteen episodes of mind games culminate in punching and kicking each other in the face
“Matsuda’s being an idiot again” “Well, Matsuda is a natural at that” wghkjhgkj what has Matsuda done to any of you
"He’s punishing criminals as a front, and killing people for the benefit of this company” is Light unknowingly going to solve the murder chain he himself started... inspiring
“I was testing you” this is why Light is your only friend, L, Aizawa has kids and it’s a dick move to ask him to put his convictions before them
Poor Matsuda realizing he’s got the least to offer to their team... me in high school science labs
I understand Aizawa’s moral crisis but why do NONE of these cops care about their wives or daughters they’re just kind of like, ‘I will provide for you but I have no interest in or fulfillment from being part of your life’ (ACAB)
Matsuda is truly about to die for being dumb and eager to help 😔 Rest in Pieces
“We must not allow Yotsuba to figure out that we are investigating them,” said L, just after it cut from Matsuda being obvious about investigating them. Oh Matsuda 😔 you’re so bad at your job 😔
MATSUDAAAAAAAA oh thank goodness; Bimbo Rights save the day
“I can’t go along with your idea, it’s wrong!” said Light, despite the fact it took him 15 seconds to get over murder the first couple of times he did it
Staaaaaaaaay Good Light, I don’t want ur Deathnotesona I want this young man with moral convictions!!
The level of hubris it takes to answer a phone call during your secret Murder Meeting while people continue to talk about their Murder Plans is just out of this world
“If I die, you could probably become the successor to the ‘L‘ name,” said L, to the person he has been trying to catch for twenty episodes
“I won’t say anything under any kind of torture” “Yes that’s true” Which he knows because he tortured her for six weeks!! You see that that’s fucked up, L, right? RIGHT??? RIIIIIIIIGHT? (LIIIIIIIGHT???)
Seriously not to beat a dead Shinigami but Light is so much better like this. He doesn’t want to throw people’s lives away for the investigation! He wants to protect Misa! He thinks Kira is wrong! Why does he have to be a murderer!!! Why can’t this show be about a nice young man!!!!
“Hey Ryuzaki, that’s messed up!” THANK YOU LIGHT AGAIN I KNOW YOU BOTH HAVE KILLED PEOPLE BUT YOU DON’T KNOW THAT RIGHT NOW SO FOR ALL MISA KNOWS HE’S JUST A GUY WHO TORTURES HER AND TELLS HER CRUSH WILL DIE IF SHE DOESN’T HELP
Wow Rem is so ride or die for Misa protecting Misa from creepy Higuchi, giving her info and telling her to trust Light, that’s love bitch
Props to Misa for getting a confession out of Higuchi after one (1) car ride
Why do I feel like L is going to be responsible for reawakening Bad Light is it because he psychologically tortured him for six weeks? Had his dad hold him at gunpoint? Forced Misa to investigate on his behalf? Constantly and unerringly presses him on what Kira would be thinking as he’s handcuffed to him 24 hours a day? Maybe!! This is like Build-a-Bear but he’s customizing his Teen Murder Friend
“Only Mr. Matsuda can do [the mission to lure out Higuchi!Kira]” Death Note really said the Himbos, Herbos and Thembos shall inherit the Earth
They keep saying they don’t know how he kills but it seems pretty obvious that he writes down their names to kill, they literally saw him do it
I really don’t want any of the investigation team to die but things are not looking hot :(
“Ryuzaki, I never knew you could fly a helicopter” “It’s just intuition” what does that MEAN
“Those aren’t allowed in Japan,” said Light, about a gun, as if he had not killed probably thousands of people without one
In spite of this fact I really do want Good Light to stay 😔 Why! Can’t! This! Show! Be! About! A! Nice! Young! Man!
Also they really are playing into this father-and-son duo I will be very sad when the dad inevitably dies as I’m sure he will
Family side note: I’ve been wondering this since the prison ep but where do Light’s mom and sister think he IS now that he’s dropped out of first year uni to be a teen criminal investigator handcuffed to a maladjusted homebody private eye
AIZAWAAA and also the other two guys I guess there was a plot relevant reason for him to rejoin the police huh
Well what a clean ending to this Kira arc. No one died and the killer was caught! Yikes that the next ep is called ‘Revival’ tho 😔 Rest in pieces Good Light
Also a new and very threatening intro???? What happened to the Twilight Apple Hands
BOOOO I knew Light would get his memory back but I was hoping it would at least fuck him up for a while he sorted out his two personas but I guess all roads eventually lead to Bad Light
Full disclosure I stopped watching for a few days just after Light got his memory back and let me tell u coming back later hasn’t made it any more tolerable I am truly not built for this EUGH
“Do you really want to halve your life a second time” “Well, that can’t be helped” REALLY???? CAN’T IT BE HELPED MISA??? WHY ARE YOU AND LIGHT SO CRAZY
Oh I guess we’re back to Light saying incredibly suspicious things right near the investigators lmao what if those cameras secretly had audio or you know, L simply knew how to read lips
“Misa, let’s make a new world together” Remember a bunch of episodes ago when Good Light was all ‘I could never toy with a woman’s emotions’?? What was the reason!!!
“Have you ever told the truth at any point in your entire life” L cutting straight to the core lmao (also the answer is obviously ‘no’)
This show has taken a jarring tonal shift why are they having a post-rain-confrontation massage and towelling each other off this is a level of intimacy I was not prepared for I NEED PEOPLE TOOK LOOK AT THIS:
OKAY OKAY OKAY I KNOW THAT IT WAS PROBABLY NOT THEIR INTENTION BUT THE ONLY WAY I CAN READ THIS SCENE IS AS “Don’t kill me Light~ 🥰 I’ll fuck you~ 🥰”
I guess L knew he was forcing Rem’s hand to kill him if he disproved the rules written in the book?? But to what end omg how does this help anyone
“In April 2012, Light Yagami, age 23, joins the National Police Agency” should’ve known we’d land here eventually (ACAB)
Ah, I see another person who doesn’t know how to sit, clearly they will inherit the L title next lmao
Update from the first few mins of the next ep: “Near should succeed L” told you
“There’s no way I’m letting Sayu marry a detective” ahjfkhkjf he’s a little old for her I think but it wouldn’t be the worst thing this show has done romantically lmao; maybe Sayu would get to investigate her brother
“I might’ve considered going out with you, if you were a little younger” HA GOOD FOR HER
“[...] the Japanese police are unreliable. In order to solve this case, we want you to hand over the notebook to our country.” Of all the Japanese-speaking Americans in this show, this is the most accurate jkhfkhf the US government really is Like That
Ah, so that’s where Mello’s gone, oh how the turn tables
Also way to sell your subordinates out immediately, NPA Director, will you give them the Kira task force’s home addresses too
The real question is if Light actually cares about his sister enough to prioritize her over the notebook
“Call me... N” Oh my good L... M(ello)... N(ear)... Oooooooooooooooo
It’s my saving grace that I only need to get through 9 more eps but as always I must wonder where this is going will Light just die and end up in Shinigami purgatory while the people who knew him after the fact go, ‘hey, that guy was fucked up’
“If things get bad, I’ll have to kill Sayu” well I guess that answers that question, my expectations of Light are so low and yet he continues to find new ways to be awful
Good for Mr. Yagami and Sayu for getting out of that alive I guess but hoo boy I think this is going to have some psychological repercussions for both of them
Uh oh this episode is called ‘Father’ I’ve been dreading this one bc I think that means Mr. Yagami is about to die 😭😭😭
“It was an institution for brilliant children, to raise them to become L‘s successor” okay calm down Professor Xatari that’s not what children are for lmao
Well I guess it’s a lot easier to track down info about these two guys than it was to figure out L lmao
HAHAHA Sidoh haunting Ryuk to ask for his stuff is a fun addition to this madness
“He’s scary for a human” jkhhfjh how unhinged does Mello have to be to threaten a literal Shinigami
I truly don’t understand the logistics of how they revealed Ryuk to the police force isn’t the second Kira notebook supposed to belong to Actual Kira, in the police force’s eyes????? I do not understand how Light can just turn up with another notebook and everyone’s like ‘sure cool’ did I miss something
Mr. Yagami killed for being unable to take human life ugh this is the worst
“You’re not Kira. I’m really glad.” WAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH THIS IS SO SAD MR. YAGAMI NOOOOOOOOOO THAT’S WHY HE RENOUNCED OWNERSHIP OF THE NOTEBOOK
Neither Mello nor Near seem overly concerned with the lives of people around them does being a Super Genius Investigator also mean you have to be a dick (is this Benadryl Coddleswab Sherlock syndrome)
Lmaooo genuinely love how it’s constantly apparent that Light is the least smart of all of the smart people Light spent five years working on his reputation and it took Near one (1) phone call to destroy it
Ghjkhgkhgkgjh Light outsmarted by Near yet again never think people will prioritize principles over money
Lol yeah Aizawa needn’t have given a name after he said the “Deputy Director Yagami would kill Kira and then himself” thing, you don’t do that just for anyone who was he fooling
How does Light keep track of all the renunciations and notebooks bc I certainly can’t
Ffhkfjhfj Mikami truly looks like the son of L and Light it’s like Light missed him and was like, “Miss u boo :( (even tho I kinda killed u) I’ll adopt An Evil 27-year-old in ur honour :)”
Is Mikami’s story really, ‘I got bullied in high school and have mommy issues so now I think people I don’t like should die’ ok Shonen Snape
“I just want you to meet with me and hear me out” Light really proving to Aizawa that he can lie AND manipulate people’s feelings
“The truth is, she’s not smart enough to be my partner” first of all Light I think this show has proven you’re not that smart, and Misa’s Herbo Energy is effervescent and will outlast you, and third of all go to jail
“He’ll look suspicious if he doesn’t say something soon” “Ide, have you ever been in love” Matsuda continues to be the only good part of this show
“You’re the only man I’ve ever respected and admired in my life” GET SOME THERAPY KIYOMI
“You’re going to be the goddess of the new world” so it’s not enough for Light to be a murderer he must also be a cheater
Lmao Near’s powers of perception do seem a little B/BC S/herlock because L tried for literally months to work out the possibilities and Near is just like ‘I KNOW IT NOW’
“The only thing I can deduce from this is that Light Yagami is popular with the ladies” HEAVEN KNOWS WHY (PUN NOT INTENDED)
Every moment Aizawa gets closer to proving Light is Kira is another step closer to death 😔
“This is definitely Mikami’s handwriting” Not to be a know-it-all, Near, but handwriting analysis has been proven faulty many times in multiple courts of law
This truly is a game of Cat and Cat. All these hidden plans give me a headache fkjhkfjh call me Misa-Misa and spin me sideways I don’t have the braincells to spare
Well this is definitely some kind of s*xual assault absolutely fucking hate it wow this show truly just drains the life out of you
“Matt, I never thought you would be killed” why wouldn’t you think that at this point anyone who comes close to this investigation eventually dies (also wjkhkjhgk why is Matt special didn’t you kill all those thugs you had before -- Mello said ‘the lives of my allies are only important if they are drawn in handsome protag style’)
As of yet I haven’t really talked about Near’s wild toymaking but hoo boy is that L finger puppet something to observe
“Everyone who knows about the existence of the notebook will die” I’m still pulling for their survival, particularly Matsuda (himbo rights!!!)
Imagine if they just shot Light Yagami on sight how ironic would that conclusion to all these mind games be
“I’m waiting, for the one who will solve everything, to arrive” Lmao if it turns out L is alive I’ll pee laughing this show is so fucking stupid
Take a shot every time there is a Humpty-Dumpty-in-Puss-in-Boots style explanation about how everything actually happened
“I’ve won, Near” I bet/hope what gets Light caught is his inability to hold in his hubris for one (1) minute
Although the last episode is called New World, in which case maybe he wins in a very weird ending to a very weird show
Sjkfhkjhfkhfkjhf well I guess what gets Light caught is that the person he invited to be his murderous disciple keeps calling him God
“A second ago, you said ‘I win.’ That’s as good a confession as any” HA hubris strikes again also bold of Aizawa to clap Light on the shoulder knowing he is a mass murderer
Ohhh Matsuda he’s so nice and believed the best of Light :((((((((((((
Watching Light become increasingly desperate and crazed is very uncomfortable give it up dude u’ve been beat (though I suppose there is time for everyone here to be murdered still lmao)
LMAO LIGHT SAID “IF YOU CAN’T BEAT ‘EM, CONVERT ‘EM”
Yeah I figured if one of them was gonna shoot it would be Matsuda :( :( Good for him for not killing Light tho!!
Huh I guess that’s the end of the show I thought Light would die but I did think we’d at least get to see him in Shinigami Purgatory or smth... what a wild ride. This certainly was a show.
#ayesha talks anime#ayesha liveblogs dn#liveblogging#long post#sorry for any dn fans who stumble across this lmao i don't have the constitution for it

Fav 2019 K-Dramas
2019 blessed us with many intriguing kdramas with unique stories, don’t you think? I’m bored during quarantine and decided to post this. Anyways, here are my favs:
1. Vagabond
There, this picture says it all: this drama is fast paced, SO intense, and on fire. I love every minute of it! Vagabond is different than another k-dramas. I’m not lying when I say this drama literally makes me cry and scream. Sometimes I even had to pause in the middle of episode just to catch my breath lol. The plot is so well written and full of unpredictable storylines (which is what I love the most about Vagabond–that every episode always has a way to surprises me). Although, many viewers disappointed with how they ended Vagabond with a cliffhanger. I, too, really hope they consider making the second season to satisfy our curiosities. But either way, I don’t regret watching this drama. Not at all. Because this drama is too amazing
2. When the Camellia Blooms
Unlike majority of romance k-dramas, this drama’s love story is centered around a young woman who raises her child on her own. I gotta say, this is one high quality k-drama. I could even judge it from its lovely opening video. Every episode always has meaningful messages behind it. The storylines are rich and presented in such a way that makes viewers immersed in the stories and emphatize with the characters. First, they make us understand Dongbaek’s dark past and her struggle as a single parent, then they make us emphatize with Dongbaek’s son who grow up without a dad figure. We also get to see the perspectives of her mom & Yong Sik (the lead guy)’s mom as mothers, the issues faced by side characters, and conflicts that arise from triangle love story. In addition, they also involved mistery of murderer in the stories! Can you believe how many of these can we swallow in one drama? One time this drama is heartbreaking, then it’s heartwarming, another time it gets super dark.
Also, what I find many viewers love from this drama is how Yong Sik cherishes Dongbaek and love her for what she is, which is why I concluded this drama is perfect for woman who feels insecure. Why? Because with the way Yong Sik endlessly convinces Dongbaek, he reminds us that every woman is good enough, deserves to feel loved and receive happiness. And I love him for that.
3. Her Private Life
There is a reason why people said this is the perfect kdrama for fangirl, since the story is told from the perspective of a die hard fan (Sung Deok Mi). Those who have experienced being fangirls know how well this drama represent fangirls’ life: what fangirls do, and how fangirling affects our lives. It’s all displayed in such fun atmosphere that it’d give you good feelings while watching it. Personally, I am attracted to its opening video. It’s really catchy and reflect the fun vibes of Her Private Life. I really recommend this drama if you want to lift your mood.
But on top of that, Sung Deok Mi’s relationship with Ryan Gold is the major part of why I highly appreciate this drama!! Their relationship is unlike any relationship I’ve ever seen before. They’re very mature, respect each others’ dreams and what each other loves, always resolve conflicts through discussion. They portray the definition of a healthy relationship and I really admire that.
4. Extraordinary You
The word extraordinary isn’t used in the title for no reasons. The storylines are, indeed, extraordinary. It is a mix of comedy, high school romance, star crossed soulmates, fantasy, mistery, comedy and a glimpse of stories in historical settings at the same time. Thus, it’s not exaggerating when fans said “you don’t have to look for specific dramas, you can get it all here”.
The actors & actresses’ acting skills are superb and we can find so many funny & relatable lines here. But one of the best things about Extraordinary You is they place the second leads in the center of spotlight! Finally nice second leads get the justice they deserve. They portrayed how lead guy who’s rude and feels entitled to have his crush doesn’t have the slightest chance of capturing the woman’s heart. Instead, the nice second leads who show respects and always put the woman’s desire before his own are what woman find attractive. I highly praise this drama for that.
5. Crash Landing on You
In 2019, we encounter many dramas with unique synopsis, including this one: a relationship between a North guy and a South woman. I have no doubt in Son Ye Jin and Hyun Bin’s chemistry since the beginning. Their incredible chemisty makes every romance scenes look even more sweet and pure and sometimes cute. Although I wasn’t really engaged with the first two episodes, the next episodes gets more appealing and satisfying. It’s nice to see the progress of both lead characters’ development and how they help each other overcome their issues. Aside from Se Ri (Son Ye Jin)’s relationship with Jeong Hyeok (Hyun Bin), her relationship with the North soldiers and neighboors at millitary village are pretty adorable. Their interaction always give me warm fuzzy feelings and they’re what I miss the most from this drama honestly.
6. One Spring Night
If you love Something in the Rain, I’m sure you’ll love this one too since both are the works from the same director. It has similiar atmospheres and similiar soundtracks vibes (both have really beautiful soundtracks by the way). Like Dongbaek from When the Camellia Blooms, the lead guy in this drama (Yoo Ji Ho) is also a single parent. I agree with fans saying this isn’t the kind of drama for everyone. This is more like slice of life and they aren’t in a rush to throw in conflicts as well as its resolution and I love it that way. Through this, they made it possible for us to process our emotions while the conflicts are presented.
The stories are also realistic: the issue experienced by the lead guy as a single parent, issue that’s arised from triangle love story, how pride and status mean for men, also a glimpse of abusive relationship, and the heartwarming sisterhood. And if we look closely, we could see how they tried to portray the influence of culture in the family and in the way they resolve a conflict.
7. Catch the Ghost
I thought the ghost from the title refers to an actual ghost but thank god it’s not. Here, ghost is a nickname for a criminal–the villain of the drama. Even when the story centered around the same villain from the firat until the last eps, but I wasn’t bored at all watching this. In fact, it is what made me engage with the stories and made me continue watching the next eps although I had assignments to do 😅. It’s just so, so exciting to watch. The stories are dark, sad, but funny at times. However, some viewers (including me) found the lead woman (Yoo Reung) annoying at first because of her selfishness. But I promise it’s still worth to watch because in the later eps, you’ll understand why she is the way she is which makes it easier to tolerate and even emphatize with her. She’s actually lovable, and her relationship with the lead guy (Ko Ji Seok) is really cute! In fact, Ko Ji Seok is one of my fav characters in kdrama land!
8. Class of Lies
You know, I always love kdramas with unpredictable storylines. Just like what this drama has. I know the settings are set in high school but it is waaay too dark for a high school story. You can even see it from the picture that it has gloomy vibes. I thought it’s the typical high school kdrama about bullies or corruption but it’s truly exceeds my expectation. From the first episode, I already saw the potential of this drama and already hooked with the misteries. I felt so tense throughout watching the entire drama. I kept clicking the next eps to find out if things are getting better and if there is any clue to the misteries here. But I swear everytime I thought I figure something out, this drama always has surprises to give. So brilliant. I stan.
9. At Eighteen
We could tell from the title that this drama must be related to the dynamic life of 18 years old teenagers. Considering this is the age where we explore ourselves, this drama portrayed how different teens could have different issues to face: trying to fit in at school, stand up against bullies, trying to be in top tier at school, trying to get good grades whether it’s to get into reputable colleges or to meet parents’ high expectation, trying to experience romance, AND exploring sexual orientation (actually this is the first kdrama i’ve watched that portrayed gay issues so I was like wow??). So, the stories aren’t only focused on the main characters, but the side characters too. Though I really adore the main guy in this drama: Choi Jun Woo. I even made an essay about why I think he’s an ideal guy lol. If you’re interested, here you go
Not only does this drama describe the issues faced by 18 yo students, but also the struggles faced by the teacher. It shows us how teachers can feel nervous too whenever he’s about to teach or deal with the students, how certain teachers care about the wellbeings of their students, not just care about their grades. I appreciate that from the drama, really, I do. This drama is calm, heartwarming, and meaningful.
10. Love Alarm
Tried to watch it because of Kim So Hyun, and I quickly got invested in the stories. I like the futuristic theme in this drama. The idea of a Love Alarm app itself is already interesting. Moreover, So Hyun has good chemistry with both guys. Though I don’t find both lead and second lead guys as my best type of guys, but I couldn’t stop watching it and I don’t regret watching it. Their lovestories are bittersweet which kept me looking forward for more. The last episode ended in cliffhanger though, typical Netflix series. If you don’t like uncertainty and want to watch this drama, I suggest you to wait until season 2 is released (yes, they announced there will be a season 2).
k-drama recommendation: 2/?

Highschool au: Teen tony and peter having a meet in the janito's closet
Hi there! I really hope you’re still out there, anon, and I hope you enjoy this! I’m sorry it took so long.
I still have a few prompts in my inbox, I promise I’m gonna work on all of them, please have patience with me.
High School Au. Bad Boy!Tony x Nerd!Peter.
Word count: 4k
Warnings: explicit, nff, 18+. If you spot anything that might be triggering to anyone, please let me know!
-*-
Tony was the coolest guy in school, there was no doubt about it. He always showed up in expensive, black leather jackets, ripped jeans and stylish, worn-out chucks. He was the only student who got away with smoking on school grounds every single time he got caught, and he even got away with wearing some black eyeliner from time to time – no one messed with him, no one dared to call him names or push him into lockers.
Everyone who wanted to be someone orbited around him like his gravitational pull was irresistible. Girls wanted to date him, they threw themselves at him like he was some famous movie star, they liked hanging on his arm like accessories, because just to be seen beside him made them a hundred times more popular. Everyone wanted to be a part of his very select and weirdly diverse friend group, but no matter how hard they tried, no one ever made it.
Besides being sinfully handsome and incredibly stylish, Tony was filthy rich. His father owned a multinational weapons and technology company, which made them one of the richest families in the country, so when he showed up in Midtown High one everyone was shocked and confused. Rumor had it Tony had been expelled from three private schools before, so, as a punishment, his father enrolled him in a public school – but Tony didn’t seem to mind at all, he actually blended in like he belonged there.
Peter fell in love with him on day one. He saw what everyone else saw – the beauty, the danger, the rebellious attitude – but he saw so much more, too. Even though Tony was one of the “cool kids”, he was never mean to anyone. He never made fun of other kids, he even stood up for some of them, like when Flash was bullying a kid in drama club, calling him a fag, and he just punched him in the face – he was suspended for three days after that. He was also really smart, he took the same AP classes as Peter and a few more and he always got perfect scores, even though he never seemed to be paying attention.
At first, he thought his crush wouldn’t lead anywhere, Tony was straight after all. When they were in freshman year, he started dating Pepper Potts, the prettiest and smartest girl in school. A year later, though, he broke up with her and got caught making out with Bucky Barnes, Steve Rogers’ ex, behind the bleachers – that’s how everyone found out he was bisexual. Peter was at the same time delighted to hear about it – because that meant he stood a chance – and also devastated – because if Bucky Barnes was Tony’s type, there was just no fucking way he actually stood a chance.
He was just a skinny nerd with ugly glasses held together with a little bit of duct tape, he wasn’t devastatingly handsome with bright blue eyes and broad shoulders. He wasn’t good at sports like Bucky, he was in the Decathlon team and in the school band, which a guy like Tony would find totally lame, of course. He wasn’t stylish and cool, he wore baggy jeans and nerdy t-shirts and sweaters and he’d probably look ridiculous in a leather jacket.
So, yeah, he thought he didn’t stand a chance. That is, until one day he stayed late after class, working on a project for the science club, and he lost track of time. There was no one else in the halls when he finished, so he hurried outside and, as soon as he was out the door, he was faced with Tony Stark, leaning against his car in the school parking lot, smoking a cigarette and looking as dangerous and handsome as ever. He looked at Peter with a raised eyebrow and the younger teen blushed, dropping his gaze and walking down the stairs as quickly as he could without looking like he was running. He didn’t get too far, though, as he heard Tony’s raspy, sexy voice – Peter himself still sounded like a squeaky teen – calling him.
“Hey, you!” Peter didn’t think he could possibly be talking to him, so he looked around like a moron, but there was no one else on the sidewalk. He turned to Tony again.
“Uh – me?” He pointed dumbly at his own chest, eliciting an amused smile from the older teen. He blushed, feeling stupid, but Tony just nodded.
“Yeah, you, come here.” He gestured with one hand for Peter to come closer and the younger teen felt his palms starting to sweat, but he walked the few feet from the sidewalk to the spot his car was parked and stopped in front of him. Tony looked him up and down with a smirk. “You’re in my AP Chemistry class, right?”
“Uh-- yeah, yes. I am. Yes.” Peter grabbed his backpack straps tightly, trying to hold Tony’s gaze, but it was so hard, he had this look in his eyes that made Peter feel naked, exposed.
“Hm. So, what’s your name?” He asked, throwing his half-smoked cigarette on the ground and stepping on it.
“I’m Peter. Parker.” He could barely believe Tony Stark was talking to him, let alone wanted to know his name. To be fair, he looked pretty bored and there was no one else around, so maybe he was just looking for a distraction. Peter wasn’t complaining, he’d take what he could get.
“I’m Tony.” He offered his hand and the other teen hesitated for a few seconds before taking it, fingers trembling. His hand was big and rough, like he imagined it would be, it had tiny cuts and burns across the knuckles and Peter wasn’t sure if it was because of the fights he got into or because of his electronics class. Maybe both.
“I know,” he whispered, feeling dumb again when a smile spread across Tony’s face. “I’m not a stalker or anything, you’re just… Hard to miss,” he mumbled, letting go of his hand to scratch his arm, looking away from him.
“Yeah? Well, so are you.” He gave him this crooked smile that made Peter’s heart speed up and he sucked in a breath, feeling a little dizzy.
“Wh – me?” He blinked rapidly as he looked around again, trying to find anyone else who Tony could be referring to, because he certainly couldn’t be talking about him, there was just no way.
“Yeah, I’ve been watching you. Not in a creepy way, promise. I like your spider web thing, it’s really smart.” He grinned and Peter blushed again, ducking his head.
“Thanks. I-I like your robots. Uhm, Dum-E and U, right?” He asked shyly and Tony grinned.
“Ah, so you’ve been stalking me after all,” He raised a brow and Peter’s eyes widened in embarrassment. “I’m just messing with you, Parker.” He chuckled, shaking his head. “Can I drive you home?”
And that was when it all started. When he said a breathless yes without even thinking, when he got into the older teen’s fancy sports car and listened to his rambling and stared at his strong hands gripping the wheel. When Tony parked his car in front of his apartment building and Peter didn’t know how to say goodbye. When Tony leaned in towards him and the younger teen’s breath hitched, but he closed his eyes anyway, heart beating fast and loud. It started when their lips met in a soft, chaste kiss and Peter all but melted in his seat.
“You know, I was just gonna grab the door for you, I wasn’t sure we were there yet,” When he opened his eyes, Tony was grinning mischievously and Peter almost combusted with shame.
“Oh, God! Oh, my God!” He covered his face with his hands and heard Tony laughing before he felt him grabbing his wrists.
“Hey, stop, I hoped we were there, I was just worried maybe this would be too fast for you, but if it’s okay with you, it’s more than fine with me.” He was still chuckling, though, and Peter refused to take his hands off his face, a little humiliated. “Hey, come here, c’mon. Let me kiss you properly this time.”
He allowed Tony to take his hands off his face, even though his cheeks must be flaming red. He avoided the other teen’s eyes, but felt the rough pads of his fingers holding his jaw with so much care and gentleness that it made him look up at his face. Tony smiled at him, whispering a breathless “there you are”, and closed the distance between them, lips meeting once again.
It wasn’t Peter’s first kiss, but it might as well be. He was so nervous, his hands were shaking when they reached for Tony’s leather jacket, he ran out of breath when his tongue licked his lower lip and he opened his mouth, tasting cigarette smoke, mint and Tony. He remembered all the times he dreamed about that in his bed, not even in his wildest dreams did it ever feel so good and right.
That was two months ago. Ever since then, they had been sneaking around school to make out in secluded places, sometimes they’d wait for everyone to leave so Peter could get in his car without being seen and Tony would drive him home. Ned and MJ knew about them, but he thought they were the only people in school who did, it didn’t seem like Tony had told any of his friends, which bothered Peter a little, but he let it slide. Tony was always nice and caring when they were together, it wasn’t that big of a deal that he was a little embarrassed to be seen with him.
He watched as Tony passed him by in the cafeteria, heart beating loudly in his ears as he waited for him to at least look his way, maybe acknowledge him somehow – a simple nod would suffice –, he looked gorgeous, as always, with his wind-swept, dark, soft-looking hair, his signature black leather jacket and ripped jeans. He strode through the cafeteria like he owned the place and Peter could swear the room grew quieter until Tony took his seat – or he just tuned everyone out in his concentration, there was no way to tell. No matter how hard he stared, though, Tony didn’t even spare him a single glance, he went straight to his friends’ table – the cool table -, where Natasha, Clint, Thor, Bruce and Rhoddes sat waiting for him. Peter sighed in defeat, turning back to his friends.
“You know he’s a jerk, right?” MJ said from across the table, never lifting her eyes from her copy of Mom & Me & Mom. “He doesn’t deserve you, he treats you like you’re a just piece of meat, you deserve better than that,” she said with boredom in her tone, like she knew he wouldn’t listen to her – he never did, after all.
“It’s not like that –“ He tried to argue in Tony’s favor, but it never went well.
“It is.” She shrugged, turning a page of her book.
“Dude, he’s making out with the coolest guy in school, leave him alone,” Ned was actually more excited about Peter’s affair then he himself was, apparently.
“Whatever, nerds.” MJ rolled her eyes and proceeded to ignore them, as Ned started babbling about some party at Liz’s house on the weekend and how they weren’t invited yet, but maybe they still had a chance.
Peter was only half listening to him, his eyes were focused on Tony the whole time. The older teen was smiling – and God, what a beautiful smile – at something Bruce said. Bruce was the only friend of Tony’s that he actually talked to, they had a lot in common, and it made him hopeful because he was maybe as big of a nerd as Peter and he dated Thor, one of the hottest guys in school. So if they could be a couple, maybe someday Tony would consider dating-dating him, not just fooling around. But then again, that didn’t seem to be Tony’s style. He only ever dated Pepper Potts, and that was an on-again off-again relationship that lasted all of one year, ever since then he just fooled around with various people at parties and stuff.
meet me u know where
Peter was startled awake from his daydreams when his phone beeped and a text from Tony showed up on the screen of his phone. Ned quickly leaned over his shoulder to read it as well, whooping excitedly when he did. Peter felt butterflies in his stomach, it had been a couple of days since he and Tony met and he missed him like crazy. He quickly grabbed his stuff and stumbled to the cafeteria’s door, ignoring Ned’s pep talk.
He all but ran through the halls towards an empty corridor where the janitor’s closet was - and they knew he wouldn’t be back there at that time, it was his lunch break, so they had at least thirty minutes. He picked the lock like Tony taught him and stepped inside the cramped space. It was tiny, there was barely any room for two people standing, and there were brooms and buckets and cleaning products everywhere, but it was more than enough for Peter. He dropped his backpack to the ground and waited.
A few minutes later, the door opened again and Tony stepped in, but the younger teen didn’t even have time to greet him as he was grabbed by the waist and pushed against the closed door. Peter all but melted against Tony’s body, wrapping his arms around his neck and sighing happily as he finally felt his soft, plump lips crashing against his.
Tony was an amazing kisser, not that Peter had a lot to compare – he’d only ever kissed one girl and one boy before, and both kisses had lasted seconds – but he could tell by the way it made his knees go weak, his fingers tremble, his skin shiver. Tony bit his lower lip carefully, then licked it as an apology, only to kiss him again even deeper and more passionately, and if Peter hadn’t been holding on to him tightly, his knees would have definitely given out.
“Did you wear those jeans today just to drive me crazy, Parker?” Tony whispered in his ear as his fingers lifted the hem of Peter’s t-shirt to touch the skin above the waistband of his jeans. Peter blushed a bright pink, because, yeah, actually, he had bought those pants with Tony in mind, thinking of his reaction. They were a little more form-fitting then what he usually wore.
“Do you like them?” He asked bashfully, feeling Tony’s lips traveling across his jaw back to his mouth, his thumbs were gently stroking the sensitive skin on his hipbones and it was sending shivers down his spine, along with Tony’s breath against his lips.
“I really, really do, babe,” Peter gasped softly as he felt the other’s tongue slip into his mouth again, taking his breath away in the process. Tony pushed his hips forwards, pressing his erection against Peter’s, making them both grunt, as the older teen started rolling his hips lazily, creating the most delicious and painful friction between them. “Couldn’t stop staring at that gorgeous ass all day, fuck.” Peter didn’t see him looking, but to think that Tony had been sneaking glances at him all day left him a little dizzy.
“Oh, God,” he whimpered as Tony licked a stripe up his neck, his expert fingers working on unbuttoning Peter’s pants. He bit his lips nervously, he and Tony hadn’t really done much – after a very heated make out session in his car one day, Peter had to admit that he was a virgin and wasn’t ready for much more than what they were already doing. He thought that would be a deal breaker for the older teen, but to his surprise, Tony was very understanding. They had been taking it slow, at Peter’s pace, and everything they did felt amazing, Tony never pressured him for more.
The older teen lowered his pants, along with his boxers, down to his knees, and his hands quickly made their away around Peter’s body to grab his ass tightly, lifting him a few inches from the ground as he pulled him closer, Peter’s now exposed cock brushing against Tony’s jeans. He hissed in pain and pleasure, sinking his fingertips into his shoulders, mouth hanging open and eyes squeezed shut.
“Take yours off, too,” Peter pleaded, trying to reach down between them to unbutton the other teen’s pants, but Tony didn’t let him, pressing him harder against the door as he squeezed his ass cheeks and spread them apart, making Peter blush furiously yet again. “Tony!”
“Shh, relax, babe.” He smiled against his lips, before letting go of his ass to undo his own pants, lowering them with his boxers just like Peter’s. He wasted no time in bringing their hips back together, eliciting synchronized groans from them when their erections touched. Tony was bigger than him, his cock was tan with a light pink tip, and Peter couldn’t help but imagine what it would feel like to be breached by it. He squeezed his eyes shut, moaning, when Tony grabbed both of their cocks in one hand, pumping them together, as the other one slid back around him to grab his ass.
“Oh, fuck,” he whimpered, bucking his hips forwards, trying to thrust into Tony’s fist, as they rutted messily against each other, cocks rubbing together, Tony’s thumb teasing their heads provocatively. “Tony, please, I’m close,” He admitted, embarrassed, and the older teen quickened his pumps, as his other hand slid towards Peter’s crack, until one finger reached his hole and started rubbing it vigorously without slipping in.
Peter lost it, vision going white as he came all over Tony’s hand and cock, his moans swallowed by Tony’s open mouth, as he, too, came undone, hips bucking against Peter’s a few times before he collapsed against him, panting. Peter allowed himself to enjoy that moment and held the other teen close, feeling his heartbeats against his own chest and his ragged breath on his neck.
It lasted for only a couple of minutes before Tony pulled away, kissing him once more. Peter reached for his backpack, searching for a pack of wet wipes that he started carrying around after he and Tony started to, well – see each other. Tony chuckled when he was offered the pack, but accepted it anyway. Peter took one for himself and, as he cleaned the mess that almost ruined his t-shirt, he tried to gather the courage to ask what he’d been meaning to ask for weeks.
“Do, uh – do you have a date to prom?” He asked quietly as Tony cleaned himself up. He didn’t even raise his gaze, just shook his head no.
“I’m not going to prom, it’s lame,” he answered as if it was obvious and Peter felt stupid, all of a sudden, because of course Tony would find prom lame, he should have seen it coming.
“Oh, yeah. Right,” he smiled awkwardly and the older teen finally looked up at him as he raised his pants and finished getting dressed. Peter hurried to put on his clothes as well, then put all the used wipes in his pockets to throw them away later.
“You’re going?”Tony raised a brow, amused, and Peter gulped and shrugged, crossing his arms as he stared at the floor.
“Uh – I, I’m still thinking, I guess. Uhm. Harry invited me to go with him, and MJ and Ned are going, so, I don’t know, maybe.“ Harry was in the Decathlon team with Peter and he had asked him to prom, but Peter panicked and told him he already had a date, so now he was fucked.
“Who the fuck is Harry?” Tony frowned, sounding a little angry, and Peter was taken aback by the sudden change of attitude.
“Uhm. Harry Osborn? He’s on the Decathlon team?” Tony’s face grew red with anger and Peter frowned, a little confused.
“That preppy asshole? Why would you go with him? He’s an idiot and he’ll try to get in your pants before the night is over.”
“Well, I think he’s nice.” Peter shrugged, facing Tony head on, and the older teen laughed incredulously, before stepping closer to Peter.
“He pretends to be nice, that’s what he does, then he’ll fuck you and tell the whole school about it, he’s a slut-shaming asshole.” Tony was practically in his face now and Peter dropped his gaze, a little nervous.
“I’m not gonna sleep with him, Tony, you know I – I’m, you know. I haven’t,” he answered quietly, blushing bright red, and the older teen sighed, calming down a bit. They were really close, chests almost touching, there really wasn’t much room in the closet.
“Look. I don’t want you to go with him, ok? Just – don’t. Please.” Peter raised his eyes at that, surprised by the plea, and he was met with Tony’s red cheeks, and that was the first time ever that he saw the boy blushing like that. He had no idea what was going on.
“But why?” He insisted and the older teen avoided his eyes, shaking head and shrugging.
“I’ll go with you.” He blurted out, and Peter almost fell backwards in surprise, blinking rapidly.
“Wh – what?”
“I know you don’t wanna be seen with me, I’m bad news and stuff,” Tony started and Peter’s eyes widened in shock.
“Wait – what?!” Tony didn’t even pay him any mind, he just kept going.
“I mean, you’re every teachers’ favorite, you have your smart friends, and everybody expects great things from you, so of course you wouldn’t wanna be seen with me, the problematic asshole who got expelled from three schools and who smokes pot in the parking lot, but just – consider coming with me, okay? I promise I’ll be on my best behavior.” He said all that with his eyes fixed on the ground, hands firmly buried inside his pockets, and Peter couldn’t even talk for a few seconds, long enough for Tony to raise his worried eyes. “Pete?”
“Wh – I thought – I thought you didn’t want to be seen with me,” He stammered, head spinning, trying to understand what was happening there, what Tony was saying.
“Why the hell wouldn’t I?” He frowned, confused, and Peter shrugged, cheeks growing pink again.
“Uhm, because you’re cool and I – I’m me?” He fumbled with the hem of his t-shirt and Tony gaped at him.
“What’s that supposed to mean?” He threw his arms out, indignantly, and Peter bit his lower lip.
“It means I’m not handsome, or good at sports, or stylish, or rich, or – anything like your other – other dates.”
That’s because you’re not like anyone else, you’re – Peter Fucking Parker. You’re a genius, you’re fucking gorgeous and you have a brilliant future ahead of you, why the fuck would I ever be embarrassed to be seen with you?” Tony seemed really confused by the notion as he approached Peter and held him by his warm cheeks. The younger teen was out of breath, looking up at Tony in a daze, still not sure that he didn’t fall asleep in the cafeteria and was dreaming the whole thing up. “So you’re not embarrassed of me either?” He asked doubtfully and Peter quickly shook his head, unable to say anything. “Then why the hell have we been meeting in closets and empty classrooms?”
“Well, to be fair, I don’t think we can do what we just did in the halls, you know,” Peter giggled nervously and Tony burst out laughing, wrapping his arms around his shoulders, pulling Peter to his chest. The younger teen went willingly, burying his face in the curve of his neck – it smelled of cigarettes and expensive aftershave.
“Yeah, I guess we could still hide here sometimes,” He conceded, pulling away from Peter once again to look into his eyes. “So, what do you say? Wanna go to prom with me?”
“I thought you said it was lame?” Peter placed his hands on Tony’s chest and he was sure he could feel his wild heartbeats under his fingers. It made his heart flutter, to think he was nervous too.
“We’ll make it cool.” He gave him a crooked, confident smile, and Peter beamed, standing on his tiptoes to place a soft peck on his lips.
“I’d love to go with you.” Tony grinned at him.
“Here, put this on,” He took off his jacket and helped Peter into it. The younger teen felt dizzy when he was completely surrounded by his smell and his warmth; the jacket was way too big, the sleeves covered his hands, but it made him feel safe and protected, as if Tony was holding him, it made him smile like a moron. The older teen took Peter’s backpack and slung it over his shoulder, wrapping an arm around his waist as he reached for the doorknob. “Ready?”
“Yes.” He grinned, nodding, taking a deep breath when Tony opened the door.

I'ma make this into two parts. These movies are too damn long.
Remember when George Lucas himself was actually in charge? Pepperidge Farm remembers. And it weeps to think of the times we had when the lore was good and the characters made sense.
Tbh, I think the biggest reason we all love Qui Gon is because of Liam Neeson. I think anyone else could easily have made him look as big of a prick as Windu seems. But I can't think of a better actor to play the mentor to one of the most legendary Star Wars characters of all time.
The fact that Sidious thought the Trade Federation could just... kill a couple Jedi is goddamn hilarious to me. I thought Sidious was supposed to be smart.
Sometimes I wish I had been a teen or adult in 1999 so I could have gone from watching the OT, where you see all of two Jedi, one extremely old, to seeing dozens of young, badass Jedi kicking ass all in one movie. That must have been so fucking mind blowing.
The design of Naboo's city is stunning. The mix of technology and Italian renaissance architecture melds so well.
Oh, here we go, Jar Jar... Listen, I don't hate him, per se, but I think he mayyyyybe could have been handled a bit different to be made less annoying. That being said, he cracks me up several times during this movie, so he's not all bad. I can't help it. I grew up watching him in these movies.
"What's this??" Same, Obi-Wan. Same.
Gungan city is admittedly quite pretty as well.
Why are Boss Nass' eyes in his head when the other Gungan's eyes are on stalks... I am most confusion.
Fun fact, the giant newt thing's sound that it makes is a deepened, edited sound byte of one of the sound designer's kids.
"Relax" "You overdid it" is also goddamn hilarious.
I'd love to know... Other than the city and the swamps, why the hell is the rest of Naboo mostly just... plain ass grass. Like, what a boring ass landscape. I mean, I suppose it was probably for budgeting constraints, but still.
That shot of Padmé looking out the window as the droid army just marches right up to her front door is kind of haunting. She's powerless to stop it and knows no way out. Love that shot.
I only just noticed this the last time I watched this movie, after seeing it nearly 50 times as a kid, but when Qui Gon and Obi-Wan are leading the dignitaries to the hangar to escape, Padmé's handmaiden is decoying as her. When she's struggling to make the decision to go to Coruscant or to stay, since she's not the actual queen and doesn't know what decision Padmé herself would make, she says "Either choice presents great danger - to us all" and turns and looks dead in the eye of the real Padmé, who answers with, "We are brave, your Highness", CLEARLY telling her decoy to agree to go to Coruscant. I just find that so cool. It's the little things.
So apparently I'm an idiot. After bitching that fuel has never existed in Star Wars after The Last Jedi and Solo came out, here I am being proven wrong. Qui Gon just said "We have to land somewhere to refuel and repair the ship." Whoops.
Eyyyy, mah boi Maul. He looks so imposing with the hood. I miss Maul with the hood tbh. We deserve more of that. He also has legs here (RIP).
Natalie is soooooo young here. She's so cute oml I love her. Also I can't believe the actual queen decided it would be a good idea to go into the heart of Tatooine, aka Hutt territory, herself. Intelligent /s
Qui Gon is literally so fucking tall lmao. He dwarfs everyone.
BABY ANI. I know everyone hates baby Ani aka Jake Lloyd, but that kid is so damn cute. He's so sweet. And his acting isn't that bad.
But also thinking about how these two (meaning adult-ish looking Padmé and this kid Anakin) fuck later in life is straight up unnerving.
I like how Anakin does the typical kid thing and is like "Hey mom, here's some random strangers that I trusted and brought home". Has Shmi never taught this child about stranger danger?
My boy Maul has been thinking about revenge since the beginning. Incredible. This man has a revenge boner so intense it outlasts his own dick.
So did Plageous/Sidious choose Shmi specifically to carry their Force-made baby experiment or was Shmi a victim of happenstance? I mean, I imagine they wanted him to be born in the Outer Rim so the Jedi didn't find him (lol RIP) so maybe it was both.
Listen, I'm not saying I normally skip the pod race, but I usually skip the hell out of the pod race unless I'm in the right mood or I'm watching with someone else. It's not exactly boring, it's just not useful to the plot. And I hate regular racing in the first place so that's not helpful at all.
I kinda really hate how Jabba the Hutt looks in this movie...
I love how there's a bunch of Tuskens with fucking slog throwers just out here tryna kill pod racers for little to no reason. It's like if a bunch of rednecks with shotguns went to Daytona and tried to shoot the drivers for their car parts.
End part one...

Title: I Need a Superman to Sweep Me off My Feet Collaborator Name: ceealaina Card Number: 3088 Link: AO3 Square Filled: R4 - [Image] Iron Patriot Ship: IronHusbands Rating: Teen Major Tags: None Summary: When Tony gets stuck up a tree, who's he gonna call?
Iron Patriot! Word Count: 1485
“No, no, no no no! Shit!”
Tony grabbed at the tree branch before he fell, watching forlornly as the ladder toppled to the ground. The very, very far below him ground.
“You have got to be kidding me,” he grumbled, pouting a little since there was no one around to see. Most of the active team was gone on some low-contact, stealth mission. Tony didn’t know whose bright idea it had been to send Steve Rogers on a stealth mission, but the man had sounded exhausted the last time he’d talked to him. It didn’t sound as though things were going well, Tony could tell that they would all need a break when they made it back home.
A bout of insomnia had led to him finding an all-year 24/7 Christmas channel, which had given him the bright idea to string Christmas lights in the trees lining the incredibly long driveway leading to the Avengers compound.
Listen, Tony was a genius, but sometimes he was real fucking dumb.
Heaving out a sigh, he sat on the branch and considered his options. He was too high up to jump without risking injury, and there was no way he was trying that. He could just hear the shit he’d catch from the rest of the team if they found out why he was benched from the next mission. There was also no way he could climb down; the lower branches were thin, and would definitely not hold his body weight. He’d probably just hurt himself even worse than if he jumped in the first place.
Whining, because again, nobody there to hear him, Tony pulled out his phone.
“What’s the matter, Tones?” Rhodey’s voice was fond and amused. “You get cold and give up already?”
“I’m not cold!” Tony protested, although now that Rhodey had mentioned it, the wind was a little brisk. “I just… Need some help?”
Rhodey huffed out a laugh. “No way, man. I told you this was a dumb idea. You could have stayed here with me. Watch some Die Hard, make out a little, have some hot chocolate…”
“I genuinely don’t know if you’re talking about the drink or yourself right now, and that concerns me.”
Rhodey laughed again. “But oh no,” he continued, like Tony’s hadn’t spoken. “Tony’s gotta go hang some twinkle lights in the trees. It’s fucking February, you idiot.”
“Yeah, yeah, okay.” Tony waved him off. “But listen, I’m serious.”
“So am I! Got my underpants off and my pajama pants on and I am set.”
“Okay, well I? Am stuck.”
There was a long pause and Tony winced up at the fading light in the sky.
“Stuck? What do you mean stuck?”
He scrubbed a hand over his face. Rhodey was going to enjoy the hell out of this, because he was a terrible human. “I mean there was an incident with the ladder. It fell and now I am stuck up a tree,” he told him all in a rush. “Come on, honeybear, you’re the only one around right now. I just need you to come out and put the ladder back up and then I promise you can go right back to your weird crush on Bruce Willis.”
“Hey! My crush isn’t weird. Lots of people crush on Bruce Willis.”
“Eh. I met him once, he wasn’t that great. He’s not even in my top five favourite Bruces.”
“Whatever, man. Just hold on a minute, I’ll come be your knight in shining armor.”
Tony probably should have been more concerned by that wording, but he was too busy thinking about how boring nature was, and wondering how much it was going to cost him to get Rhodey to keep this quiet from the rest of the team to really give it much thought.
He was just wondering why the hell he hadn’t done this all as Iron Man (he’d had a reason, initially, but he was fucked if he could remember why it had been so important now) when he heard a low, familiar whine on the wind.
“Oh,” he breathed, eyes closing as he realized. “Oh no.”
A minute later, Rhodey was landing under the tree. In the old, red, white, and blue Iron Patriot armor, because of fucking course he was. He put his hands on his hips and popped the faceplate open, smirking up at Tony like he was man’s greatest gift. Tony didn’t know where to begin.
“Iron Patriot, reporting for duty. Never fear, I’m here to rescue you.”
“You’re fucking War Machine,” he burst out, and okay, apparently that was his starting point. “What are you… Where did you even get that? I thought I melted it down.”
Rhodey just shrugged. “Thought it might come in handy.”
“I hate you so much.” Tony rubbed his forehead. “This is really unnecessary. I just needed you to pick up the ladder and put it back against the tree.”
“Hey! You called Iron Patriot for assistance, that’s what you’re gonna get.”
“I didn’t call Iron Patriot for assistance,” Tony felt it was necessary to point out. “What does that even mean?”
Rhodey gave him a shit-eating grin and launched off the ground, hovering eye level with level.
“Oh no,” Tony said again as he realized just what Rhodey was planning. “Really, really not necessary, Rhodes. You can pick up the ladder. Really. It’s right there.”
“Nope.” Rhodey held out his arms, waggling his eyebrows at Tony. “Sorry, handsome. This is a full service rescue.”
“I hate you so much,” Tony informed him, shivering hard. He probably should have worn a warmer jacket, what with it being February and all.
“No, you don’t.”
Tony glared at him. “Come on, Rhodey. I’m fucking freezing. Just put the ladder back up.”
Rhodey just arched an eyebrow at him. “Come on, Tony,” he parroted back to him. “Sooner you accept this is happening, the sooner we can get you inside where it’s warm.
“Fine,” Tony grumbled, shifting to the edge of the branch that he was perched on. Rhodey hovered easily as Tony wrapped his arms around his neck. Then he swept his arms under Tony’s legs, scooping him up bridal style -- because of fucking course -- and flew them back toward the compound proper.
Which, of course, was precisely when the rest of the team returned.
The image of Steve Rogers, laughing at him through the glass of the cockpit, would haunt Tony for the rest of his days.
*
“Okay,” Steve said, when the luggage had dried off, and the returning team had showered and changed into their comfiest clothes. When the Thai food had been ordered, and blankets had been procured, and they were all tucked up in the preferred media room for an impromptu movie night. “Okay, what I don’t understand is why you didn’t just use the damn Iron Man suit.” He was openly laughing at Tony, not even pretending to hide it.
“I don’t know,” Tony wailed, throwing a blanket over his head so he wouldn’t have to look at any of his terrible, horrible teammates. He hadn’t missed a single one of them. “I just didn’t, okay?”
“You don’t know?” Steve repeated, apparently not letting this go. “What do you mean you don’t know? That thing is your pride and joy, Tony. I’m pretty sure it’s the first thing you think of in every situation.”
“That’s not true!”
Natasha scoffed, arching an eyebrow from where she was tucked up in Barnes’ lap. “Tony. If we were trapped in a burning building, and you could only save one of us, you would save the suit.”
“That’s not--,”
“Hey!” Bucky pointed out, grinning wide. “One time we were trapped in a burning building and you did save the suit.”
“Because you had an exit route and I was flying it!”
Sam leaned around Steve, putting on his ‘serious therapist’ face. “Rhodes. It’s okay, this is a safe space, you can tell us honestly: Is it your name Tony hollers during sex, or the suits?”
“The suit doesn’t even have a name!” Tony protested loudly, as they all busted out laughing, choking out what were, frankly, really creepy sex cries of ‘oh, Mark!’ whenever they could catch their breaths.
Tony hated each and every one of them. He didn’t know why he tried to bother movie night in the first place. He didn’t have to stay here and listen to this, he was going to go down to the lab and tinker instead. (And if that tinkering led to really awesome upgrades to their equipment, well. He’d at least wait a few weeks before giving it to them, so no one would be suspicious.)
Except everyone looked so genuinely fond and happy, the stress lines of the mission leaving their faces, the tension easing out of their bodies. Beside him, Rhodey caught his hand, gave him a wink and a soft smile.
Tony stayed.

𝒃𝒂𝒄𝒌𝒔𝒕𝒐𝒓𝒚
born the sole continuance of the goldman name to a mother whose pregnancy was all but a career death - sentence , lex bore the weight of the world’s expectations on graceful shoulders from the moment she came into the light . lieutenant olivia goldman , head of the manhattan police department , can deny the salacious accused affair with the district attorney until she’s blue in the face but can’t deny the consequence of their tryst , alexandria being a painful reminder of losing nearly all her mother’s years of hard work while her father simply denied her existence and lived none the more guilted . from the start , the odds were stacked against the goldman progeny , pushing perfection as her only claim to some semblance of attention from liutenant goldman .
as a mixed race child to a white unwed mother in law enforcement , working 80 hours weeks and having spent years building her career , there was little lex saw of her mother that wasn’t something resembling exhaustion or utter disinterest . this forces her to grow independent at an astounding pace , keeping to herself as to not bother her mother with her own whims or desires . at 12 , her mother is courted by an award - winning director who requests her guidance on a police film he’s submitting — she refuses to advise on the film , but goes to dinner with him as a courtesy , and they’re married a year later in a lavish hamptons wedding in the summer . rudy delano is a world -renowned director along the likes of steven spielberg , and takes to lex like she were his own daughter . as if to balance out olivia’s coldness and detachment , he showers lex in adoration and support , encouraging her to pursue her interests of pageantry when she voices them following her 7th grade year .
considering a lifetime spent nitpicking and pushing her own facade of complete calculation , she takes the pageantry world by storm and it seems the rest of her life falls into place . a perfectionist in every sense , she maintains nothing short of flawlessness throughout high school ( taking on student council co-president , heading several clubs , and one of four school valedictorians ) and goes on to compete in the most elite of pageantry circuits . her advocacy for marginalized populations was a major platform and propelled her to miss teen new york and soon after , miss teen usa . in the live aired interview segment , perhaps among the most important moments of her life , lex makes a rare slip and accidentally comes out as bisexual when asked about the LGBTQ+ mental health crisis in her home state of new york . this leads to lex becoming the first openly queer miss teen usa , and would have likely fared well if she were to have continued ; despite its progressions , the pageant world of sponsorships seems to lag behind , and the ‘ controversy ’ of her coming out led to her leaving the pageant world for good .
on her own two wobbly feet , she continues with her advocacy and finds herself excelling in the business element of it all , going on to obtain her business degree from columbia while taking on the big screen in a blossoming film career at the encouragement of her step father . she shoots to stardom upon the release of euphoria , paired with a strong social media presence , a thriving modeling career , and a brand that becomes recognized as a household name synonymous with advocacy and entrepreneurship .
𝒅𝒊𝒔𝒑𝒐𝒔𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏
perhaps lex’s most notable quality is being driven by an unyielding fear of failure and mediocrity . there is no task small enough that lex will not accomplish to the best of her execution , and if she can’t ensure perfection , she will refuse to give it an attempt at all . this all or nothing attitude stems from an obscene obsession with control and remaining in control , something those around her are all too aware of .
despite a rather charming and gregarious disposition on the red carpet , many will note that lex is incredibly reserved when meeting her in real life . the pageantry training has kicked in to give her a facade to push when she’s in the spotlight , though her true disposition is much less play and much more work . she’s stoic and serious , knowing just what to say at what time to continue the narrative that she is completely in control . cool and calculated , her affect is usually stern and unwilling to reflect any sentiment of softness or goofiness — many business associates note her absolute maturity and rationality even at the tender age of 22 . her energy , as subdued as it may be , commands the room with a power of self-assuredness that only stems from a confidence rooted in something to back it up . she’s an elderly woman in a millennial’s body , and this tends to show in her dry wit humor , relative moodiness , and general propensity for wanting things done exclusively her way .
lex’s intellect has always been a strong suit of hers , a photographic memory that allowed her to glide through school with the least of struggles . astute and well - spoken , monotone and unlikely to crack in her stony temperament , she’s a force of nature to be well reckoned with . luckily , lex shows little to no interest in engaging with petty drama and tends to keep in her own lane , losing interest nearly immediately in the mindless pettiness some of her friends wrap themselves up in . rational , arguably to a fault , lex has a bad habit of censoring herself and limiting her own commentary when in the company of anyone she needs to maintain her reputation with ; close friends , on the other hand , will easily characterize her as blunt and straightforward , almost too aggressive with her honesty for her own good . though she’d rarely voice it , she has an undeniable superiority complex stemming from a recognition that whatever she does , she’s incredibly good at ( ignoring her unwillingness to step out and try anything outside her comfort zone . )
this is the curious dichotomy of alexandria goldman , considering one of her most notable flaws is her unwillingness to invest . despite being perhaps overly honest , the moment a conversation ( or relationship ) runs the risk of becoming too emotionally risky , she shuts down . flames have been ghosted , relationships have been ended , and friendships have been cut off simply because lex deemed them to be a danger to her mission of remaining in complete control of herself and her life . the select few that have plowed through lex’s rather prickly initial interactions have earned themselves a friend forged from gold , loyal to a fault and ready to drop anything at a wind’s blow to aide those she loves most . defensive and ornery , the pageant girl facade soon blows over to reveal an anal retentive , emotionally stunted grandmother who loses her lid over the most minute of inconveniences if they step out of her pre-established plans and routines .
hiding beneath her layers of fake smiling at redundant questions , unapproachable hostility and being an otherwise unmeltable ice queen , lex harbors a deep intensity that overcomes her when allowed to reign ( and very rarely is allowed to reign ) . she does not invest in small doses and despite the relative unlikelihood of her allowing a distraction such as a relationship , the few she’s had have been intense whirlwinds led by lex’s own inability to limit herself — she’s all , or she’s nothing , but nowhere in the middle .

Horror Movie List(taken from @ryxnmcewxn)
Horror movie I HATE: Everyone is going to hate me for this but its just my opinion. I really hate Cabin Fever. I think it is just a poorly executed movie and doesn’t add anything to either the cabin in the woods or virus genres or even horror comedy for that matter. Its’ comedy elements(minus the final great scene that i will give it) are so incredibly weak that I really don’t think it should be put into that genre. There is one scene that makes my skin crawl(the razor scene) and I will 1000% give them credit for that one but the rest of this movie is really boring to me. I think the scariest part of this movie is the ending sequence where we see water bottled up from the infected lake getting ready to be distributed elsewhere. It’s sad to me that I had to wait the entire run time for that. Im sorry if you love this movie but it is highly not my cup of tea.
Horor movie I THINK IS OVERRATED: Along with Cabin Fever being overrated in my opinion, I think Drag Me to Hell is the most overrated horror movie. I love the idea behind the movie but the execution just isn’t fully there. I think a lot of this movie’s effects are very cheesy. And I absolutely hate rooting for a character and thinking they’ll survive and they don’t, in most cases this is a huge pet peeve for me. I don’t mind the scene where the lady attacks our man character I think that was decently well done. Overall this movie does not deserve nearly as much credit as it is given. And by no means do I think this is one of the best horror movies as many people have said.
Horror movie I THINK IS UNDERAPPRECIATED: I’m going to talk about a movie near and dear to me, Devil. I have pretty much never seen this movie talked about and the only reason I’ve seen it is because an ex boyfriend of mine introduced it to me. It is definitely one of those slow burn kind of movies which I am usually not a fan of but it totally plays off in this instance. Character building, a thick sense of panic, and the big reveal are all aspects that contribute to how much I love this movie. I think everyone should really go out and watch this movie which is why I’m not revealing too much about it here. I recommend this to anyone and everyone who is a fan of horror.
Horror movie I LOVE: All of the movies I praise on this list could go in this spot but I’ve decided to talk about one I love that isn’t already on here. There are a couple different movies I have in mind for this but I think I’m going to talk about a classic. Night of the Living Dead is one of the few movies from its’ time that still holds up to this day. I love this movie from the iconic lines to the very well done gore. For its time it was so incredibly groundbreaking not only for the really great gory portrayal but for the statements it made about race. Ben is still one of the most iconic Black characters in movie history and rightfully so. He was an absolute badass and took care of everyone and everything. His death is one of the worst horror movie deaths for me because he was such a great character. His death makes a huge statement and it is sad that we had to see the character die to make it.
Horror movie THAT MADE ME FALL IN LOVE WITH HORROR: The Saw series is one of my all time favorites I have watched it multiple times and it has a huge place in my heart. I used to watch the movies a lot as a kid when I was much less into horror than I am now. As i got older and got more into horror they were really the defining thing that helped me with the transition into full fledged horror fan. I can admit that as the series went on it wasn’t quite as good but I still enjoy the entirety of the series. I am excited and nervous to see the Chris Rock reboot. I will always go back to these movies I enjoy them very much and they bring me a lot of joy.
Horror movie THAT CHANGED MY LIFE: I’m going to give this one to Silence of the Lambs. One of the absolute best horror movies in history and one of my all time favorites. This movie obviously has a lot of intense and very graphic moments so seeing this as a pre-teen was definitely life changing. Even more so after I discovered a lot of the content is based off of real life occurrences. It was one of the defining moments in my life where I realized there are some really sick people in the world and that you may never know who those people are until it’s too late. It was a really harsh reality check for me and even though it was hard to watch it at such a young age, I appreciate it so much more now as an adult.
Horror movie THAT SURPRISED ME: One of the most surprising horror films for me was Hostel II. I thoroughly enjoyed the first film but was not sure the second would live up to the hype. Sequels have a tendency to disappoint but this movie was quite the opposite. Don’t get me wrong when I say this because I adore the first movie and I think it deserves a special place in horror history but I put the sequel just a notch above the first. This is what really shocked me about this movie. It was so well done, the gore factor was turned up a couple notches, and we get a strong female lead which is something I am always a huge supporter of. Not to mention a few actors I really enjoy making an appearance in this. All of these things set this movie just a little above the first and I can not talk enough about how much I enjoy these two. I haven’t seen the third installment yet but based on the trailer I have extremely low expectations.
Horror movie THAT IS A GUILTY PLEASURE: The Friday the 13th remake in 2009 is not a good horror movie in the slightest. I will be the first to admit that this is probably the worst movie on my favorites list but that is why its a guilty pleasure. I know its bad and I know it’s not scary but it is very nostalgic for me and it makes me happy. The original three movies are also favorites of mine and stand up much better than this movie but I still love it. It is a movie I can put on for comfort which is not an easy thing to find with horror movies and I have only found a couple that give me this effect. I used to be horribly afraid of horror movies as a child, Child’s Play was really the only one I could watch and not have panic attacks. In my teens I was still scared but slowly getting more into horror. This movie was very helpful to me so I will always hold it in a special place despite it being a major guilty pleasure.

The hypnotist - Jervis Tetch x reader
Summary: Tension builds up in Arkham when Jervis breaks the rules. You befriend Jonathan and Jerome brews a plan.
Chapter 11 - Toxic and dangerous
Sitting across from your doctor sets a lot of dread within you. You know before each session what the conversation would lead to as you noticed some of the staff keeping an eye on you.
The first minute was just total silence. Your doctor stared at you with her hands entwined together on the table. It felt as if she was trying to read your mind, but you could only smile at her.
After all, you knew what she would want to talk about.
The situation was funny to you. A major concern about you was your attraction to Jervis Tetch. She had called it an obsession, and perhaps to an extent she was right, but what you felt for him was real.
They would just never understand.
"Jervis Tetch has returned to Arkham." Her gaze doesn't shift from you. She's trying to get a reaction from you.
All you do is smile.
"I know. You know I know. I know they tell you everything." You grinned.
She hardly blinked.
"How can you expect to get better if you spend so much time with the focus of your obsession?"
"See, I don't like that word. You assume I'm obsessed with him, but it's not like that." You chuckled softly. "Have you ever been in love? Sure, it's a weird tale to tell, but it's true."
She silently wrote down in her book.
You sighed softly, finding it funny she thought you couldn't read some of the words upside down. You didn't need her to know that though.
"Perhaps from now on we should keep you both apart. We stand a better chance of helping you both that way." She stared at you blankly again.
"You think that. Let me just say this now. Nothing would stop me from trying to be beside him again. Separating us will only cause more problems for you, and I know you wouldn't want that."
It was hard to tell what she thought about that statement. She continued to remain silent.
"Is this that why you talk about with him?"
"That's confidential information."
"Oh, boohoo!" You stuck your tongue out at her. "As if secrets mean anything in this place. The guards talk."
You glanced at the door, knowing there was a guard out there waiting for the end of your session. He would escort you back to the others and pretend he didn't hear anything. Later he will go and gossip with his mates because the staff here had nothing better to do.
"You haven't been here all that long and yet you seem to know quite a lot." She would have sounded impressed if she didn't look so bored. You wondered why she was even here.
"I have a friend who has served more than enough time in this place. He's taught me everything I need to know about Arkham, its staff and its patients."
She knew exactly who you were talking about. It was all written down in your file and in her book.
"Let's talk about your new found friendship with Jerome. How is that going?" She was trying to sound neutral about the whole thing, but you knew the last time she was concerned about that. The staff were just too afraid of him to do anything about it.
It was funny really.
"Good. We spend every day together." You gave a wicked grin. "Jerome's fascinating. He's very clever."
"Clever?" She was writing in her book again. "Is that what you call it?"
"Don't you think so?"
"He terrorised Gotham, killed good men of the GCPD, killed his mother." She was watching you like a hawk.
"Yeah. His mother, that was just the beginning. He knew exactly what to say to get Gotham on his side. He opened their minds, spoke to their psyche's. I think that's pretty damn clever. As for the GCPD, do you really think they were good men? The police force has been corrupt for as long as the city has been standing, and they're not very good at their jobs." You sat back in your chair.
She didn't say anything. Again.
"I think that concludes our session." She closed her book.
"Right. Can't wait for the next one." You gave her false grin and stood up, approaching the guard at the door.
Your doctor didn't say anything as you left the room.
You're not sure what she could have possibly thought of you, but you knew the conversation would be pretty much the same next time. You just hoped she listened to what you said about Jervis.
You would be a force to be reckoned with should they ever separate you again.
The guard led you back to the main room to join the others once again. As you turned the corner you bumped into the young man you saw the other day.
"I'm sorry." He apologised quietly.
"Don't worry about it."
He walked around you and headed towards the room you had come from. It was his time for a session.
You turned back around and continued walking. You made a mental note to talk to him later. Jerome would thank you.
The moment you came back, Jervis was on his feet and reaching for your hand. You chuckled as he dragged you over to the table.
Jerome was nowhere to be seen.
"I missed you."
"I was only gone a moment." You chuckled, enjoying the feeling of his thumb running across your hand.
"A moment too long."
"Where's Jerome?"
"I'm not sure. He said he had something to do." Jervis glanced over his shoulder, presumingly where Jerome was last seen.
"Curious." You muttered. "Never mind, at least we get to spend some time together." You couldn't contain the huge smile that spread across your face.
"Yes. Indeed." Jervis' face lit up with excitement. It painted him to be away from you after your hasty confession earlier. He just wanted to spend time with you.
You reached out and pushed some of his hair back, letting his features sink into your mind.
"I have an idea." He whispered, leaning in.
"Oh? Do share?" You leaned in also, wanting to hear his thoughts.
"Tonight when the lights go out, don't go to sleep. Wait for me." His smile sent a shiver down your spine.
"Why? What are you planning?" You let a smile stretch across your face.
"You'll see."
Jerome had returned from wherever he had ventured off to. He was grinning and there was a slight spring in his step as hurried over. His laughter was uncontrollable, clearly something exciting has happened. A joke no one else would understand.
"What did you do?" You and Jervis sat upright again, looking at the ginger curiously.
"What makes you think I did anything?" He placed a hand on his chest as if he was offended by the very thought.
"Because you're laughing and it's unsettling."
Jerome gave a pout, but it was gone as quickly as it came. You were right. He was impressed. Jerome smiled.
"Hatter here needed something, so went to fetch it. That poor guard had no idea how to react when I came to him. You should have seen the look on his face." Jerome let out a loud string of chuckles, hitting his knee in the process.
"What did you need, Jervis?"
Jerome pulled out a little keyboard and slid it over to Tetch quickly.
Jervis was quick to hide it.
"For tonight?"
"For tonight." He gave a toothy smile.
"You two love birds have fun, I'm going to try again with that kid over there." Jerome stood from the table and headed in the direction of Jonathan.
"Oh yeah, I'll have to talk to him later. Jerome seemed intent on me being friends with him." You watched as the teen sat down in the corner again.
"Probably only because he won't speak to Jerome."
"I'll see to it later then. So go on, what's the plan tonight?"
"It's a surprise my dear." Jervis reached for your hand and brought it to his lips, kissing it softly.
You giggled and pulled your hand away, placing both your hands on his cheeks and meaning over, kissing him.
"I look forward to it."
Lunchtime came around and once you had your tray of food, with a nod from Jerome, you sat with Jonathan.
Jervis was a little sad he wouldn't get to sit with you, but he was also impressed you were so willingly doing this for Jerome. He watched from their table as you approached the teen.
Jonathan didn't say anything right away. He was caught a little off guard you had sat with him, but was quick to carry on as if he wasn't bothered.
He was used to sitting alone.
"You're Jonathan Crane, right?"
He looked up in shock.
"How did you-?"
"Jerome Valeska." You gave him a smile. "Thought maybe we could be friends. Don't worry, I won't go around telling people who you are."
"You know who I am?"
"Yeah." You leaned in closer. "Who else has a fear toxin in this city?" You whispered.
Jonathan looked incredibly nervous.
"Chill, it's cool. No one else knows." You leaned back and turned back to your lunch.
Jonathan glanced over at Jerome and Jervis who were both looking right back at him. His looked back at you. He had been curious about since he saw you yesterday. He didn't know very much about you.
"Why are you here?" He asked softly.
"To make friends with you. I just said that." You said politely.
"No, here, in Arkham."
"Oh. It's simple really, I drove myself mad pining after a man who went crazy over his sister. He killed a few people after she died, struggling with the loss, and I didn't do anything to stop it, Gordon didn't think that would take a toll on me, I can only imagine what that did to Lee. I was determined to be with Jervis because after all the time I spent with him, I fell in love with him. I only told him that this morning. Getting into Arkham was not easy, let me tell ya! I am one determined crazy lady." You chuckled.
Jonathan blinked silently.
He had no idea who half the people you mentioned were and not sure he completely understood you, but if you were as crazy as that had sounded, maybe he should just roll with it.
"Right."
"Yeah. I'm here now, so no point dwelling on the past. Gotta keep an eye on the future!"
Your smile was so bright and full of excitement, it was unsettling, but Jonathan understood. He got it.
"What do you want from me? Why does Jerome want to be my friend so much?"
"I don't know. I didn't ask. I just agreed to come and talk to you." You shrugged. "Anyway, you don't want to spend all your here alone, do you? I can't imagine that's much fun."
"I guess." He muttered.
"I'll tell you what, I'll give you some time to think it over. I know it's probably a weird thing with it being Jerome Valeska and Jervis Tetch, but both of them are pretty cool people. Jerome is a personality on his own, and Jervis can hypnotise people. I'm just an oddball." You gave him a smile. "If you decide to take me up on my offer of friendship, come sit with us tomorrow."
You got up and grabbed your lunch tray, moving back to where Jerome and Jervis were sitting.
"Well?"
"I think I might have convinced him. Give him some time. I think you freaked him out." You chuckled.
Jervis smiled.
Jerome rolled his eyes.
"What a team we will make." His grin made you shiver.
"What are you planning?"
"All in good time."
The rest of the day was otherwise uneventful. Jervis spent as much time with you as possible. After your confession, he had fallen in love with you more than he thought possible.
You did as he had asked. That evening when the lights went out, you waited.
You listened to guards make final checks before either going home or returning to the office, depending on their shift.
Time seemed to tick by slowly as you waited.
You had no idea what the plan was, but you trusted Jervis knew what he was doing. If he asked you to wait then surely he was coming to get you.
Then you heard the sound of the door of your cell opening. It popped open just a little, waiting to be forced open the rest of the way. You gave it a push as someone gave it a pull, allowing it open easily.
"Jervis!"
"Y/N!"
He held his hand out and you took it, letting him lead the way. You were still unsure of what the plan was, but it was rather exciting sneaking around a night.
"What if we get caught?"
"Don't worry, dear. Jerome saw to that."
You chuckled and let him take you into the dining hall. It was weird being there since it was so empty. The lack of noise from patients made the room feel eerie and far too vacant.
"What are we doing here?"
Jervis stood walking and stood in front of you. The look in his eyes was so soft. He was so filled with love.
"I wanted to spend some time with you alone. I have waited so long to be with you like this again." He lifted his hand to caress your cheek. The touch was barely there.
"Arkham isn't the ideal place for a date, Mr Tetch, but I'll take whatever I can get." You reached for his hand and held it between your own.
"What's the plan for the evening then?"
Jervis smiled.
"We dance."
Tetch pulled you closer to his lanky body, one arm snaking around you as the other grasped your hand.
Your giggles filled the room, the sound echoing off the walls, as you danced to the imaginary music.
Jervis made sure to make use of the room. The pair of you glided across the floor, smiling and laughing.
All he wanted was to be this close to you.
The pair of you slowed and rocked side to side gently. Your head was resting against his chest. The silence of the room allowed your thoughts to run wild.
"Do you have any idea what Jerome is planning?" You asked quietly, but your voice still echoed in the otherwise empty room.
"Not exactly, but I believe it is in our favour to stand by him."
"Yeah, I think so too. I just don't see what the plan is. I guess that's what so… cool about him. He has a plan, clearly, but I think he's still putting it together." You gazed up at him.
Jervis had his eyes closed, lost in the moment.
"Whatever happens I'm sticking with you." You smiled.
Jervis opened his eyes and looked down at you with a love sick gaze.
"I won't let you go anywhere else." He chuckled.
You leaned up to kiss him, but before your lips got anywhere near his a loud bang sounded from behind. Someone was coming down the hall.
"I thought we would have more time." Jervis sighed. "Whatever happens, stay out of sight and go back to your cell." He gave you a gentle push towards the door of the hall.
You glanced back at him upset that your time had been cut short.
He gave a smile and waved you away.
You hurried out the door and ducked down behind the opposite wall from where the footsteps were coming.
A moment later Jervis made his exit from the hall and you watched as he ducked out of sight.
Just as you went to make a move you heard voices, choosing to hide just a little longer.
"Inmate Tetch! How did you get out of your cell?"
You listened as he tried to come up with a way out, but from the sounds of it they weren't letting him go too easily. He complained as they cuffed him and dragged him down the hall.
Deeming it safe for you to move, you hurried to your cell. The door was still open, you were surprised no one had noticed. Jerome must have done a good job of clearing the guards out from this section.
You closed the door behind you and let it shut behind you.
The next morning you went into the hall to get breakfast. Jerome was the only one present and you grew concerned.
"Where is Jervis?" You sat down, placing your tray down opposite Jerome.
"I heard he got caught last night." He gave you a pointed look, silently questioning what happened.
"Our time got cut short last night. He got caught out of his cell. I figured they would take him back, but why isn't he here?"
"A few days in solitary. He can roam around in there." Jerome grinned.
"Damn it." You sighed. You wouldn't see Jervis for a couple of days.
"Not to worry. It's only a few days. Ya still got me." He gave you the ol' Jazz hands motion.
"Lucky me." You chuckled, teasing him.
A tray was placed down next you. Both you and Jerome gazed up to see Jonathan sliding into the seat next to you.
"Hey." You smiled.
"See, told ya!" Jerome grinned. "Welcome to the crazy wagon."
"Thanks." Jonathan didn't sound all that impressed. You gave him a nudge with your shoulder.
"Don't mind him. I'm glad you decided to join us." You tried to be as friendly as possible. He was clearly still cautious about Jerome, but honestly, this was probably for the best.
Jerome was a dangerous individual, but he knew what he was doing. as crazy as that sounded.
You leaned forward to get Jerome's attention again.
"Are you going to share your plan with the class or do I have to keep guessing?" You put your chin in your hand and smiled at Jerome.
Jonathan furrowed his brow and looked between the pair of you.
"I suppose. I didn't plan on keeping it from you for long." He leaned in, glancing around the room quickly. No one was paying attention to your table. He deemed it safe.
"They think they can keep us locked up in here and they'll be safe." They being the people of Gotham. "I'm wasted in a place like this." He began to laugh.
"True." You agreed with him.
"I'm gonna get his out of here. You, me, him, Tetch. We're going to drive Gotham mad!" His grin was sinister. You're sure your heart stopped beating for a second.
"What do you need?" You asked quietly.
"Nothing yet. Doing anything too soon will only cause more trouble than it's worth." He leaned back. "Sit back and wait. I'll let you know when the time comes."
You shared a look with Jonathan and shrugged.
"I'll be waiting then."
Jerome burst into a fit of chuckles.
You wondered how his mind worked.
At lunch Jonathan sat with you both again. Jerome got up a one point to tease one of the other inmates, trying to put on a show. He claimed he was bored, but you were sure he was just doing it because he could.
By dinner you had become rather bored yourself. Not seeing Jervis, but knowing he was in the building somewhere, was draining your enthusiasm.
Jerome had tried to make you smile, only succeeding once with a stupid little joke. He at least felt accomplished for doing at least that.
The next two days had passed the same.
Jonathan had spent every given moment with you and Jerome, becoming used to the ginger's eccentric personality.
Over those few days, others really began to notice your little group.
Inmates had started to shy away more than usual when the three of you entered the room. Jerome was rather proud of this and wasn't ashamed to show it.
The staff were concerned with the lot of you. Having Jerome Valeska and Jonathan Crane know each other was bad enough, but your behaviour was becoming unpredictable and they wondered if these two had anything to do with that.
The way the three of you would sit together and chat amongst yourselves had become concerning to the guards.
Jervis was let out of his confinement. As they opened his cell in the solitary block, he was given a warning from the guards and his doctor about sneaking around at night.
His cell was going to receive some extra security. They weren't sure how he got out. They didn't even find their missing key card, or seemed to notice it was missing to begin with.
The staff here weren't very observant.
Jervis entered the lunch hall.
The three of you were sitting at your usual table chatting and laughing.
You had yet to notice Jervis.
The hatter walked over.
You looked up.
You both smile at each other as you hopped to your feet and ran towards him. He opened his arms and caught you in them, hugging you tightly to him.
You leaned up and gave him a long awaited kiss. You could feel his joy from the action.
You didn't let it last too long as you wanted to take him in, pulling apart and gazing up at him lovingly.
"Look at you!" You smiled at him.
Jervis chuckled.
"Do you like it?"
Jervis' hair had been cut. It was shorter, but it suited him so well. The best part was the paper hat he had sitting on his head. He hadn't had one since Ed and Barbara kidnapped him.
"You look wonderful! What a pleasant change." You chuckled, reaching up adjust his hat ever so slightly.
Jervis' smile made you feel warm inside.
"We should probably not sneak out again. As much as I want to spend every waking moment with you, I don't want to be separated from you like that again." You gave a soft smile.
Jervis reached for your hands and gave them a squeeze.
"Perhaps you're right."
Jervis glanced at the other two sitting at the table.
"I see Mr. Crane has joined us." He smiled at the youngest member.
"We're a team of four now." You sat down, pulling Jervis into the seat next to you.
"Is this everyone?" He asked Jerome.
"Sure is. What a team!"
You looked between the three of them.
With these three guys on your side, you were going to take over Arkham until the time was right.
Gotham couldn't keep you all locked up here forever, and you really wanted to show Gordon he underestimated all of you by thinking Arkham could hold you all.
You smiled at them.
Becoming friends with these three was a dangerous thing, but you wouldn't have it any other way.
You looked forward to the future of Gotham.

Lesean Thomas’ Yasuke- Concerning yet Invigorating.
Note: I am a long standing supporter of Lesean Thomas’s work and I bear no ill will to his production but I felt I needed to say something. Take it as you will, it’s more so the ravings of fan exploring their opinions and ideas not a direct attack on Thomas or his work which are all note worthy pieces of art with their flaws and all!
Okay It’s no surprise after my thoughts on Cannon busters were laid bear and my extreme excitement for Children of the Either readily apparent, that I would have something to say about Thomas’ new project coming to Netflix “Yasuke”. There isn’t much known or needed to be said about the project other then it’s going to be awesome to get a new project by Thomas, and that there are Black samurai involved. Cool right? Well yes and no.
Lesean Thomas is a creator that I respect and empathize with. Being the only black guy in the anime industry pumping out his own content i’m sure there has been tons of red tape in the realm of production that gets in the way of everything he makes. And yet he still managed to release 2 projects. I have been following Thomas’ for quite some time and his work has been exciting when it comes to the build up of hype, but sadly don’t deliver fully on the promises made in promotional material. Which could be considered my fault on account of me putting my expectations so high with him being the first black animator in years to formulate his own projects and get them green-lit (as far as my knowledge is concerned). It makes sense to have clear issues with his other works if I do because they have already been released and possibly even finished. Of the two works he actually managed to get on the big screen one is a completed project while the other is a pilot that seemingly died in production hell. I had a preference for his Children of the Either series (over Cannon Busters)because it showed an incredible understanding of character animation and had some really interesting concepts that I was hoping to see fleshed out more. All the while managing to have an aesthetic very reminiscent of my favorite anime while not 100% feeling liking a bone dry rip off. Cannon Busters by contrast was a hodge podge of different anime references with some very in your face and hand fisted themes which broke my immersion from time to time. It’s aesthetic was inconsistent, at times the animation would relatively nice and then be followed up by what would look like a bad episode of teen titans. I never found it in my soul to find the series as lazy, just slightly misguided in it’s production. Ineffectively allocating skillful animation and art design for scenes less relevant to the plot; having dialogue sequences that very blatantly explain things with no form of nuance; and a handful of other minor attributes that made the series kind of a slug through most of the central part of the show and even had slower elements carry onto the the end. All in all it was a decent series however, and had enough charm and pazaaz to it to the point where i could never in my right mind give the series a lower score then a 6/10, I gave it a lucky 7. Which brings me to my pre existing fears and concerns when it comes to Yasuke.
The fundamental element of Yasuke’s promotional information that strikes me as daunting and a little cynical is the fact that the show is going to be a quote: “Magic Samurai Robot Anime” (according to vice: https://www.vice.com/en_us/article/vbammy/new-netflix-anime-lakeith-stanfield-pacific-rim-altered-carbon-yasuke-vgtrn). Now before anyone comes yelling at me to ring my neck I must first start out establishing something. For one, a Mecha magic series has already been done by Thomas in Cannon busters, which I would argue was his weakest element of the series. The technology and magic system of his story never was fully fleshed out in an interesting way and while there is a lot of mystique I feel like those elements would take away especially when it comes to the samurai/chanbara genre. Which leads me to my second point, samurai anime are surprisingly rare! AAANNNNDD I am talking about strictly samurai. Hardcore, balls to the wall, classic samurai political drama stories being depicted in anime. The last I checked the only popular samurai anime have been Rurouni Kenshin, Samurai Champloo, Dororo, Sengoku Basara, Afro Samurai (which is good but relies heavily on modern sensibilities) and Gintama. Among these the only one that truly explores the culture of samurai in any way is Dororo, and that element takes a back seat in favor of the supernatural elements. MECHA SAMURAI HAVE ALREADY BEEN DONE BEFORE, and i would argue that those two genre’s should stay separate until we get enough anime depicting samurai authentically. Or at least like an old Japanese samurai film the likes of Ran or Kagemusha! Samurai 7 is a thing guys and while it had it’s interesting elements by in large it lacked one of the fundamental elements that made samurai stories exciting and that was one on one samurai fights (outside of the fight between Kanbei and Kyuzo). Samurai have become a novelty, people assume the genre is generic for japanese culture, but it’s rare in the medium of animation that they are depicted with the same level of reverence and relevance as they are in live action film and T.V. shows. I am disappointed that the next samurai series that is going to be green-lit by an individual I look up to so much is gonna play it safe by making another novelty samurai series with giant mechs and magic. In the time were Yasuke ventured to Japan the actual political climate is so invigorating that you DON”T NEED GIANT MECHS TO PUSH THE ENTERTAINMENT VALUE. I know mechs are an aesthetic choice I get it. But honestly, they take away some fundamental attributes so integral to the entertainment value of the samurai genre and I would think that is something that is important. All in all foregoing an interesting historical war drama with the potential to have slight supernatural elements in favor of sci fi feels like something that is starting to become boring and slightly overdone when it comes to samurai. The amount of anime that are actually about samurai that are popular in the west are few and far between and there are very few samurai series being produced now that cover Sengoku period japan. If Lesean Thomas sees this know I mean no ill will, I am only stating my personal opinion as a fan of your work. Please try something else. you can still have the hip hop aesthetic with flying lotus, you can have Lakeith Stanfield play his voice actor. But please, make an authentic samurai experience that placates to the trappings and best attributes of the genre. Because we as a society are in dire need of something of that calibre. We have gotten to a point were so many anime that are being produced stray far away from the source of what makes samurai so fascinating and entertaining to watch. And if you don’t want to draw on that fine. But don’t stop me if I want to create my own Yasuke anime.
@leseanthomas
Love you work
Keep it up !

salut ellie! someone once asked you about your writing and you recommended falling in love with language and finding ways of writing you love. i was wondering, what books and/or writing styles are you in love with? it's just so interesting to know what somehow had an impact on the way you're writing bc i honestly adore your style
wow do you remember that ? that is such a flattering question oh my god. well, i’m still working on it. some of my favorites are (i’m very eclectic lmao) :
- His Dark Materials (it’s a fantasy book series ‘for kids’ but it’s actually insanely deep and philosophic) is pretty much the first book series that made me fall in love with stories, and made me want to write. I think I found it when I was 10, and it completely shaped me. It’s so ambitious and clever, it never talks down to the reader, brings up those amazing worlds and philosophical concepts and is still accessible to kids. Most of all it is so committed to atmosphere, to making it vivid, to really make you go through what the characters are. I’m thinking of it and I can remember exactly certain passages in an almost sensory way : the witch Serafina Pekkala describing what it feels like to feel the Aurora Borealis on her bare skin as she is flying through the arctic. The polar bear Iorek giving Lyra frozen moss to help bandage his wounds after a battle. The grilled poppy heads that the Jordan College scholars at Oxford eat during a meeting. The little Gallivespians on their dragonflies and the way the sun reflects off their poisonous spurs. That’s how you make a story stick ; that’s how you can put in deep stuff without ever making it boring. I am so excited they’re making a tv series because that shit deserves some recognition. And I mean the whole plot about the importance of stories, free will, the horror of religious fundamentalism....always relevant. Philip Pullman’s stuff is great in general, I love his Sally Lockhart series, which is more adult and adventure focused, and is a great deal of fun. And of course, the sequel to HDM he’s been putting out recently.
- I spent a lot of my teen years reading either crime novels or historical novels. (When I think of some of the stuff I read when I was 13 I’m like oh my god what were my parents doing lmao some of that was really horrible.) And I think it gave me a good feeling for suspense and setting, and how important tension is. One of my all time faves is Andrea Japp. She is a French writer who does mostly crime, involving complex/monstrous woman characters and a very sensory, poetic approach to language, often involving food, plants and poisons. My favorite by her is the “Season of the Beast”/Agnès de Souarcy chronicles, which is a crime series set in medieval times, with a cool independent lady at its core, crimes in a monastery, and this very gloomy end of times vibe that I love. I also read a lot of Scandi Noir stuff, I love the kind of ...laconic approach to life. And again : vibe. Vibe is so important. And Sherlock Holmes stories. I love the Mary Russell series that take place in that universe and are basically a big Mary Sue self insert guilty pleasure but are just. So much fun.
- I like poetry a lot - not stuff that is too wordy, but something short, sharp and vivid. i think reading poetry is essential to feeding your inner ‘metaphor culture’. I love Mary Oliver. Rimbaud, too, that I read at 17 and rocked my world. One of my underrated faves is Hồ Xuân Hương, a Vietnamese poet from the 18th century who was adept at using nature metaphors to hide both erotic stuff, irreverent jokes, and political criticism, and correspond with all the great scholars of her time under a pseudonym. Badass. Recently I bought ‘Soft Science’ by Franny Choi, which is about cyborgs, having a female body, emotions and politics and it’s absolutely brilliant.
- I love reading fairy tales, too. Currently reading (i always read a lot of books at once lol) Angela Carter’s Book of Fairy Tales, basically fairy tales for grown ups, collected from folklore all over the world, with an amazing kind of gruesome humor and wisdom. Norse mythology is also so damn funny. That one bit with Thor dressing up as a bride or Loki’s shenanigans...amazing. And I like fantasy, I find it very soothing to read for some reason, my fave has to be Robin Hobb and her Realm of the Elderlings series. And Terry Pratchett, especially the series with Death or the Witches. Just brilliant. Neil Gaiman too.
- I tend to be very impatient when it comes to literary fiction, I find a lot of it is self-indulgent, dreary. I’m a genre reader through and through, I need to be amazed. I loved ‘the Elegance of the Hedgehog’ by Muriel Barbery though. Some stuff by Amélie Nothomb, Virginie Despentes occasionally (they’re French writers with a very dark, wry approach to life, tho the first is more polished acid and the second very punk rock). And ‘Special Topics in Calamity Physics’ by Marisha Pessl is pretentious as hell but a lot of fun, if you like dark academia. Salman Rushdie has a way with language that is amazing.
- I read a lot of non-fiction. At the moment : the Cabaret of Plants (about the symbolic/socio historical meaning of plants and how they shaped history) by Richard Mabey and ‘Feminist Fight Club’ by Jessica Bennett. One I absolutely love is ‘the Botany of Desire’ by Michael Pollan in which he traces the history of four plant species (apple, potato, cannabis, tulip) and how they impacted us as much as we impacted them. I was obsessed with plants for most of my life as you can see lol (my mother is a herbalist and I wanted to become a botanist for quite a while.). Also philosophy/anthropology in little bits. I love Tim Ingold. Things about witches. Anything by Rebecca Solnit is incredible.
- I’ve been reading a lot of YA recently, because it’s fun and quick and keeps me reading, and has a lot of good female characters. Big fave recently : Jane Unlimited by Kristin Cashore. It’s about a young bisexual woman who’s grieving and comes to this weird house full of doors, each of which leads to a different path in life, and we follow her through each choice she can potentially make, each of one becomes a different genre of story : creepy ghost story, spy story, sci-fi, cute romance, etc. It’s so innovative and it’s a story that is also bisexual culture at its core. Also I absolutely love love love love love (etc forever) the Raven Cycle series by Maggie Stiefvater. What she does with language is just so cool, because she stays simple and efficient but uses her metaphors in such a fulgurant, vivid way. Some of her lines are just. bam! genius. #goals. Also Ronan Lynch is probably THE character that helped me the most with my coming out. He’s one of my forever faves. Of course Harry Potter, lmao, I was of the generation that pretty much grew up with him, the last book came out when I was 17. JK Rowling really should just stop rn. But I learned so much from those, about the importance of making your story feel like home, and having a clear emotional journey. And Harry is such a sarcastic little shit, I love him. And I love a Series of Unfortunate Events too, the darkly funny tone of it, the celebration of knowledge and resilience.
- I think in terms of the classics (I had to read in school lmao), I do like Victor Hugo a lot even though some of his stuff just doesn’t fucking stop. I also like Balzac and his Comédie Humaine, he’s very observant, mean and funny when it comes to people (even though it’s depressing.) Colette is my grandma’s fave writer and she is a rockstar, I love her (also hella bi culture). Jane Austen is great, I read Pride and Prejudice in one night straight, I was so hooked. Love Jane Eyre too. I read On the Road by Jack Kerouac while hopped up on opioid pain killers and that’s probably the only way to appreciate it, but it did mark me.
- But to be completely fucking candid, I probably read the most fanfic nowadays still. Esp since I got to college, I need to unwind when I read, and having characters you already know can be so comforting. Now, of course, there’s a lot of fanfic that is just fluff (nothing wrong with that) but I honestly really believe in the literary value of fanfic. Because some of that shit simply just really slaps and is well written. But also as a genre on its own : you just simply don’t get so much emotional nuance, and depth in most other things. Because these are characters we already know and the writers are not afraid to be self-indulgent and plot is secondary, we see shades of things that we never see anywhere else, we see relationships developping in the small things and wow that shit is breathtaking, bro, sometimes. The art of infinite variation on a theme. Even though a lot of fic writers could use a bit of stricter editing, and do stuff a bit too many unnecessary details in here, so does Victor Hugo soooooooo....
lol i could go on forever. i love book soooo much. uni kinda killed my reading appetite, I used to read several books a week when I was in middle school. hope i can get back there (although maybe not as much bc i have a life now lol.) but thinking about everything i have yet to read makes me sooooo happy. I want to get more into sci-fi, English lit classics. Basically I like stuff that’s witty, dark, political, hedonistic, with dry humor, but a warm heart. Stories that celebrate knowledge, curiosity and human weirdness. And that gets to the point. When I get bored by a book, I put it down, because I just don’t have the time. I also hate writers where you can tell that they think they’re better than other people. Misanthropy is boring. Thank you for this question anon I had a blast
