was thinking of naevys, zenith's mom friend, and thinking about her whole deal a bit because i struggle to just make side characters without developing them at least a little lol. she's a widow and had three kids, two daughters and a son, and lost both daughters during wyrm war one. decided i wanted to design the daughters, so here they are! the whole family follows/followed kezdall, hence the bear symbols. extremely lazy armor here but we don't worry about that, this gets the idea cross well enough. i think they were both clerics, maybe a cleric and a paladin? they both fought in the war rather than being civilian casualties, i know that. daughters went out to fight in the war, son stayed home to watch out for mom and dad. might draw the son separately, we'll see how far this inspiration takes me lol

OC Interview: Brennan Draig

Thank you so much for the tag, @blind-the-winds. I really enjoyed reading your answers. I also think the interview style for this was brilliant. I've already did this for myself.

Rules: Answer the following questions for an OC of your choice.

I did something like this many years ago for Cyras, the protagonist of Cold as Ice, and I loved it. It helped me really sink into her character.

I decided to do this with Brennan, the love interest of Flight of the Dragon. Brennan is a 1200-year-old silver dragon who is also one of the rulers a city-state in the Olessan Region.

Please be aware of the following triggers: talks of death. Flight of the Dragon is set in a dark fantasy world, so very dark themes apply to it.

Knight-Errant Brennan Draig

1. Are you named after anyone?

In the world, Brennan is not named after anyone. I had debated whether he would be named after a relative or not, but ultimately decided that he wouldn't be.

As Flight of the Dragon was originally wrote to be low fantasy and exist on our planet, Brennan was originally written as King Arthur. I got his name from the Irish name Brennan (sorrow) and Welsh word Draig (dragon).

2. When was the last time you cried?

Brennan never cries. He believes that in order to make changes in the world that action is required. This is why he rushes to the cathedral to protect a newborn Alystin and her mother and agrees to train Alystin in martial and ranged weapons in FOTD.

There was one pivotal moment when he did cry. After he confronts Jhaer and his clutch is completely destroyed, he is running on pure adrenaline. The chief god appears before him and tells him that in exchanged for his freedom Brennan needs to fulfill the promise all silver dragons pledged to Amés. He vows to live his life for Amés and free all of the dragon souls that Jhaer is using to fuel her blood magick.

After the adrenaline wears off and he is far away from his castle / lair, Brennan breaks down and cries. He mourns the mate and children that died in Jhaer's siege.

Interesting that Jhaer was originally Morgana from the legends of King Arthur.

3. Do you have any kids?

Brennan lost his mate, Beatrix, and children in the siege let loose by the Enethian necromancer, Ellarian Jhaer. The only ones that are left are the twins named Aldrien and Palar. He sent them away to learn from the golden dragon: Kalzeruth.

He also has one more child who survived the seige named Kanderth. Kanderth becomes corrupted, raised as a great draconic lich, and works with Jhaer. Brennan is the one who lays Kanderth to rest.

He and Alystin will become the mother and father of Flame. They have two hybrid children together. These children are the ancestors of modern men and drakl. Drakl are dragonmen and are at war with men.

4. Do you use sarcasm?

Although he is considered a wise wyrm, Brennan can't help but use sarcasm on occasion. He tries to lead by sincerity, integrity, and candor, but those sarcastic moments tend to shine through when he is dealing with Jhaer or her cult.

5. What's the first thing you notice about people?

The first thing that Brennan notices about people is their eyes. He is fond of saying that the eyes are windows to the soul.

Brennan has a draconic ability that allows him to see auras and determine if someone is friend or foe. This ability is triggered by looking into the eyes of the target. The world around him becomes ghostly grey hues. The Wraith, the anti-hero protagonist from Cold as Ice, has a similar ability from her draconic ancestry. Some could say that this comes from the father of the modern dragons.

6. What's your eye color?

From my notes in Flight of the Dragon.

Brennan Draig has eyes almost the color of silver. When he uses any magick, they will glow a powder blue. His left eye is clouded a dull grey with a darker silver around the outer edge of the iris. A vertical, thick raised scar darts from right above his left eyebrow, runs down his eyelid, and stops at the beginning of his cheek.

7. Scary movies or happy endings?

During the early Age of Men, civilization told sagas instead of showing movies. That technology doesn't exist until the Age of Steam.

Brennan enjoys stories about the great battles his clutch fought and the dangerous journeys they made. These stories were to record and preserve their culture and things that the Elders thought was important for future generations.

With that in mind, he doesn't care one way or the other about the endings.

8. Any special talents?

Brennan has a knack for languages.

As a dragon, he has most of the talents that you would normally associate with an ancient wyrm. He is immune to cold and can exhale a cone of icy air which freezes most of everything it touches.

One of the special talents that he personally teaches his offspring is the ability to use body magick to shift bones, wings, and flesh into a human form or beast. This is a painful process that the dragons tend to either spend their time in human or draconic forms.

Once Alystin becomes his dragon knight, she and Brennan will often share telepathy, pain, and even something simple as hormone changes.

As a dragon, he has impressive flight. He will often tell Alystin to mount him, so they could transverse the world quicker through the skies, but she insists that she would never disrespect him like that as he is not a beast of burden. Brennan loves to soar.

9. Where were you born?

Brennan was born in the northern forests of the Olessa region. These forests are old-growth forests that was inspired by forests in England.

When he was only a young dragon, he was left in these forests and told only to survive. His father thought that this would help him when it was time for him to pass onto the Ven plane. Brennan would take over and rule after that.

10. What are your hobbies?

There are several hobbies that Brennan enjoys. when he was the ruler of Seralia, he enjoyed falconry. He enjoyed teaching the young birds of prey to hunt wild animals for food.

Brennan enjoys reading. There were many times that he could be found in Adwen ferch Afan's library bent over old scrolls and tomes.

With Eternity threatening to end the Planes of Existence, he doesn't have time to practice the hobbies that he enjoyed.

11. Have you any pets?

Outside of his falcons that didn't make it out of Adwen ferch Afan when Jhaer besieged them, he travels with a malamute named Emray.

Emray is Alystin's dog. He stands about 26 inches in height from his shoulder and weighs 95 pounds with a plumed tail that is held over his back. Emray is very loyal to Alystin, even going so far as attacking Brennan after the Huntsman is burned to the ground. However, once he realized that Brennan wasn't going to hurt his master, Emray would become his best friend.

12. What sports do you play/have played?

There were several outdoor games that Brennan would play with his flight. Most of these sports were based on his knights' warrior skills. There were competitions in archery, wrestling, stone throwing, and sword play.

Brennan engaged in running and swimming. They would play a ball game with stick and ball. In other communities, it wasn't uncommon for someone to be hurt or killed, as early Olessans tend to play rough. Women were not allowed to participate in these games, but they would gather and watch their partners.

13. How tall are you?

Human-form

Brennan stands 7 feet 2 inches. He is one of the tallest characters that I have, and his height is inspired by Johann Petursson and André René Roussimoff.

Dragon-form

As an ancient wyrm, Brennan tends to stand 120 feet. He has a 35-foot body and neck length, 50-foot tail, 150-foot max wingspan, and weighs over 640 tons. He is rarely in this form as he knows that it inspires terror in his follows. It actually surprises him when Alystin accepts him.

14. Favorite subject in school?

There are no schools during the early Age of Men. Education was provided through private tutors. Only a handful of early Olessans could afford to educate their sons. This is seen when Brennan sent away the twins to learn beneath the tutelage of Kanderth.

Brennan's favorite thing to learn would be soaring through the heavens.

During Flight of the Dragon, after Alystin asks him about a time he was truly terrified, he recalls to him the first time he spent among the clouds. He was frightened as his wings became slick with dew, sending him plummeting toward the ground. At the last moment, he unfurrowed his massive wings and righted himself at the last moment. He tells her that he could have given up and died, but he pushed forward, as she will have to during the fight with Eternity.

15. Dream job?

Despite railing against his destiny when he was younger, Brennan was always met to follow in his father's footsteps and rule his region. He once wanted to be a poet, a storyteller responsible for keeping the history and tradition of his people alive, but that quickly fell apart when his father was fatally wounded during an assassination attempt.

Now, he wishes to recapture Adwen ferch Afan, unite all of the Olessan region, and have Alystin take her place beside him.

Twilight and Sun(beam)

If Marigold Hawthorne was a sunbeam, then her younger brother Mazus was a raincloud. While Mari was blond, beaming and freckle-spotted, Mazus had a gaunt face, dirt-coated fingers, and a mess of violet-black strings for hair. The only thing connecting the siblings by appearance was their meadow-green eyes, though on Mazus they were nervous and shy, like the same meadow view in the twilight.

Hum

“Anyhow, since you are here, and I need to properly thank you, it would be my pleasure to show you around to my troupe. That whole fiasco was a big point of excitement last night, so everyone would be thrilled to meet you--” “Uh,” Remy stumbled, “That’s very kind of you, Mr. Van Alystine, but--”  “Claus, dear, just call me Claus,” he corrected with a hum, “And this silly ‘beast hunt’ of yours can wait! Besides, I want to show you around before we are all too busy!”

Footstep

A period of uncomfortable silence came next, where I could hear Hardy debate whether he should leave his post to investigate. He’d almost settled on going when hurried footsteps approached him, and he instead shuffled to attention.

The Planes of Existence universe has so many characters and regions that it would be hard to explain them all. Cold as Ice alone has 9 MC characters.

Here's a few select few.

Glorendine Surnames - Glorendine children will usually take the name of their father and add a "u" before son or "a" before dottr. Glorendt has been influenced by viking customs. Some examples: Jorinuson or Svenuson

Alystin means "independence" and a "tenacity of purpose". I thought that this matched her character traits well. She needs to have tenacity if she is to thwart the cult.

Anabelle means "favored grace". I wanted something that would say how graceful she is, but Anabelle is kind of opposite of the character. She is a Void, a person who has no magickal abilities. In my world, the fuel to be able to use magick is a gift from the gods.

Brennan is an Irish given name that means "sorrow". This is his life. He lost one mate when the god of love ordered him to fulfill his divine duty, lost almost his entire clutch, and would lose Alystin to old age. Draig is the Welsh word for dragon. Before I set Flight of the Dragon in the Planes of Existence universe, it was the story of what happened to King Arthur after Camelot, and he was a Welsh warlord.

Cyras was named as I originally wanted to name her Cyrus, which means "one who bestows care". This is the opposite of her character, but it is something she will grow into. I changed the "u" to an "a" as I wanted a more feminine take on it.

Seamus means "he supplanted", but that is not why I named him that. He prefers going by "Shae", as he hates his given name.

Vaene was originally named after a character from Final Fantasy for my husband's world of warcraft character. He couldn't spell it like he wanted, so he went with the "ae". Now, I choose Vaene as the Crown Prince because Vaene is, well, vain.

What’s the story behind your MC(s)’ name?

I’ve been coming across some really great WIPs and a lot of you guys have MC(s) with such unique names!! It makes me wonder what’s the story behind it?  Feel free to reblog with your response or put it in the tags!

As for me, my MC Bez’s name came to mind in the most unorthodox way. To put it simply, I was maladaptively daydreaming about my future as I usually do yes i’m a loser i know lmao and I was thinking what if I had a best friend named Bez? Then the next thing you know I added the name to my list of potential character names, then I finally decided I’d use it myself. It’s crazy lol

Anyways I’d love to hear you guys’ responses!

Tumblr Games: OC Name Meanings

I am going to do this for the love interest and protagonist of Flight of the Dragon, my dark fantasy novel.

Alystin Torrath

The initial personality I choose for the protagonist was a determined and independent young woman. Since she is the daughter of the queen of a tribe, I wanted to name Alystin "Alison", as that means "Son of the Noble One". Alison is from English Origin.

Since it is a fantasy novel, I tweaked the name to make it fit easier in my fantasy setting. Alison became Alystin. So, as it currently stands, her name doesn't have a former meaning, but it is still inspired by the English name.

Brennan Draig.

When I first started to draft and outline Flight of the Dragon, it was to be part of a universe I created under a different nom de plume. FotD was set in what would be Wales and explore the legend of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table and featured "What If Arthur survived the attack from Mordred and most of the other characters passed on".

With that in mind, I named him Brennan Draig. Brennan is from Irish origins and means "sorrow". I think that this fits how the audience / readers first meet Brennan. He has lost almost all of his flight, and he blames himself for it. He is sorrowful. Guilt plagues him.

Draig is easier to explain. It is simply Welsh for Dragon. In this version, Brennan was a giant red dragon with black markings. I decided to keep that name when I was redrafting to fit FotD into the Planes of Existence universe.

Changes Tag Game

One of the biggest changes in Cold as Ice is I took out the chapters that featured the gods/goddesses. In the final trilogy set in Cirel, the god of love, Amés, comes to Cirel to banish the god of war, Vittore, to the death plane for trying to destroy mankind. There are still subtle hints throughout all of the novels that show that the events were influenced by the gods.

In Flight of the Dragon, this was to take place in 6th century in Wales. Brennan was King Arthur, the castle where Alystin's tomb is kept was Avalon. I moved it to the Planes of Existence universe, but I did keep Brennan's name: Brennan Draig (Sorrow / Brave Dragon).

For the Wraith in Cold as Ice, her original name was the Black Tigress. All assassins (shadow blades) were named after animals before I decided to name them after mythological creatures and beings. Each shadow blade has characteristics of their namesake.

Each shadow blade in Cold as Ice has an alias. The Wraith has a magickal block that was placed within her mind. There was no such block in the 1st draft. The block is based upon DID, stemming from this person's severe childhood trauma.

In Cold as Ice, the first draft saw Catrina Raspanti's motives are wanting to advance her station. Catrina is the betroth of the Crown Prince. Her role in the story was expanded, and she has a more sinister part to play.

Speaking of the Crown Prince, I decided to change his title from the Grand Duke to the Crown Prince. He is still a man who is broken by the death of his wife and son.

I changed the name of the Empire. During the first draft, it was known as the Olessa Kingdom. I was reading an article about the differences between an Empire and a Kingdom and realized that Olessa was in fact an Empire. Their neighbor, Glorendt, is a kingdom.

There was no reason for the Olessans and the Glorendines to be fighting. I mentioned that the Olessans would wage war on Glorendt, but I recently expanded it. They have been involved in a war for a hundred years.

A chapter that I once considered pivotal in Cold as Ice has been cut from the draft. This featured the Crown Prince recovering at the Stewardess' home and watching her being abused on a balcony by her foster father while Vaene was in the courtyard and the other man managed to slip away before Vaene was able to get into the room with sword drawn. It has been replaced with his investigation into the Shadow Council.

Who Wants to Live Forever. This song reminds me of Brennan after Flight of the Dragon. Brennan, as with any Arathean dragon, live such a long life. His divine duty is to look out for the family Alystin comes from, and the god of love has promised an eternity of his choosing with his mate. He once thought that was Beatrix. It was actually Alystin. Human lives are so fleeting. She passes on in his arms.

Skyfall. Skyfall reminds me so much about the relationship between Anabelle and Seamus and Pale Fire. She is an Olessan shadow blade; he, a former Glorendine shadow blade. They are each artifact hunters for their order and are thrown together to prevent the destruction of the Arathean plane by the relics that they are pursuing.

Dreamer. This reminds me of Cyras and Cold as Ice. As a noblewoman, Cyras can be both cunning. She has studied under the best tutors that Olessa has to offer, but she often feels trapped in her life. After she met Vaene, she told him to impress her to stroll through the Dregs, the place that Olessa calls the slum, and witness the suffering of the common people. Truly, she is just a dreamer wishing for better times for all of the Arathean continent.

Fun Fact Friday Part

The main character Vaene Arturis grew up on the streets of Glyndon. His mother provided for them until she passed away. He would make a harrowing journey to the Olessan Empire where he would join his father's army.

Before I changed his personality, Vaene was originally based partly upon a character from a hit video game: Ezio Auditore da Firenze from Assassin's Creed. There is very little resemblance to the character now.

When I first decided upon the setting of CAI, I would become inspired by the Italian Renaissance. Because I included Pale Fire into the world and have it set BEFORE Cold as Ice, CAI now has 18th century technology, weaponry, and clothing.

The architecture is still inspired by the Renaissance, as well as the Olessan cultural, artistic, political, and economic rebirth.

The layout of the city of Olessa has three sections: The Dregs (slums), The Olessan Forum (merchants, temples), and Summas Hill (where the nobility live). Summas hill has man-made canals. These flow over a retaining wall into the Olessan Forum, creating an island like structure that houses the Temple of Amés. Amés is the patron deity of the Olessan Empire.

Silver dragons love the company of humans and will often take the form of an old man or a young maiden. Brennan's preferred human form is a middle-aged man with dark stubble, white hair, and striking gray eyes.

Silver dragons hate injustice and cruelty, but they do not go out of their way to punish or ferret out people who may pose a threat to the world. They are more concern with protecting innocent people and healing their wounds, unless their territory, mate, or offspring are threatened. Brennan is only prodded into action when Amés' offers him a deal to spend the afterlife with his lifemate in whatever way he sees fit.

If their true form has a scar, it does carry over to their other form. This is why Brennan is seen with a scar over his eye. He is blind in that eye and lost his depth perception. His other senses overcompensate, and he can sense his surroundings by utilizing his knowledge of body magick.

By preforming a ritual with blood magick, Alystin becomes a dragon knight. This allows her to have some resistance to the cold, as well as sense when other dragons are nearby. Dragon Knights are unheard of, and Brennan initially protested as many do not survive the initial changing. The Dragon's blood tends to overwhelm the host.

For the Dragon Knight, I was inspired by the classic tales of turning a human into a vampire. The only difference is that the host does not become undead. Having the dragon's dna merge with a human's is a painful process with sees the person running a fever and passed out for as much as two weeks.

The Glorendt Kingdom is based upon 18th - 19th century England. Cities are dirty and overcrowded. It is common to see children toiling away in Workhouses for very little pay. Life was very regimented, controlled, and monotonous as all workers wore uniforms.

The naming conventions of Glorendt follows Irish and Norse naming conventions. Each Glorendine has a given name. Seamus Jorinuson' given name is Darby. Annie will sometimes refer to him as such.

Seamus had his heart broken by Anabelle, and he moved on by starting a friends-with-benefit relationship with his instructor Rosette. Shae would tell Annie that something died within him when he didn't show up in Tokus, and he will never have a legitimate relationship again.

Shae can utilize the ven to allow him to use body magick. He can only heal minor cuts and abrasions as he is not trained. When Annie is injured and they need to get to the surgeon, he attempts to heal her and exchanges some of his life force for hers. She passes out on the way to Jorinuson Manor.

Annie knows that Shae loves to eat, and she loves to cook and bake. During their "friends" phase, she makes several treats for him: dishes like pancakes, pain perdu, and roasted meats. He once said that she was going to turn him into a foppish, Olessan man.

OC Favorites Tag

Rules: What is your character's favorite items based on keywords given.

I am going to do this for Anabelle Vasser, the main character for Pale Fire.

My 1st words are: Sport, Song, Time of day, person, activity.

Activity: Anabelle's favorite activity is reading. In her summer manor located in Lucci, she has a large library that she will disappear into for hours. This library has large dark pecan bookcases lining the walls. There is also a spiral staircase heading to an upper level. This is also her favorite place to be.

Person: Before she has her children, her favorite person would be Seamus Jorinuson. They have a love and hate relationship, but he would do anything to protect her.

Song: This is hard as Arathean music is not the same as ours. She would have liked opera music dominated by castratos, but she also would have liked to listen to the music from the minstrels and troubadours. She loves to go to opera house in Olessa, the capital of the Olessan Empire. A real-life example would be anything from The Marriage of Figaro.

I'm going to do this second round of keywords for Brennan Draig, a main character of Flight of the Dragon.

My 2nd set of words are cook, spot to relax, way to spend a day, animal.

Animal: This is a great question. Brennan recently had a hatred of dogs as when he was just a hatchling and learning to fend for himself dogs would terrorize him. As he spent more time with Alystin after the Huntsman Inn burnt to the ground, he started to have a newfound respect for Emray, her black and white malamute.

Cook: Brennan is an obligate carnivore. He typically likes his meat as raw as possible. Alystin has learned to cook any meat for a few seconds on each side and serve him. He especially enjoys a rare piece of deer steak.

Spot to Relax: As with most silver dragons, Brennan enjoys spending the majority of his time in the sky and resting on clouds. When the first time he was there, he had dew on his wings and plummeted to the ground only to save himself at the last moment. It is peaceful there, without little interruption. He does bring Alystin up in the sky once or twice since he known her. She shares his sentiment.

Way to spend the day: His favorite way to spend the day is to be hold up in his living quarters with Alystin as they tell each other riddles. Alystin has never came up with a riddle that could stump him, but he recognizes that she is terrific at their game -- even if, in his eyes at some points, she's just a short-lived human.

Sorry, this is late. I picked your Lucky by Aurora. I treated it like a prompt and wrote a flash fiction piece, placing it after a tragic event of Flight of the Dragon.

Rules: Listen to these songs and describe your WIP/OC daydream as you listened to them. You can pick one song or do both and you can be as brief or descriptive as you like.

Alystin kneeled upon the ground, the moss wetting her tight umber-colored leather pants. The cool air of the Dragon Talon mountains rustled through the trees. Her blonde hair danced behind her like grains of wheat from the southern villages.

She touched the dirt on the ground. The coarse woody debris on the forest floor chilled her fingers, serving as a sharp contrast to the soot upon her face. The earthy smell sparked memories of playing in the trees when she was younger, gripping twisting branches as she climbed higher, but those fun games were in the past, overshadowed by what had just happened.

She stared at the forest floor. Alystin didn’t know where to begin. The knight-errant relayed a fantastic story of heroes vanquishing a horrific abomination and fleeing a burning castle with a screaming, tiny newborn. They would settle in a sleepy hamlet far from their home and raise the child as their own.

It seems like any story a mother would tell a child, she thought. The only difference was the story of her life. Twice, she had narrowly escape the clutches of the ones who would corrupt her heart to open a portal to the Death Plane to release a horrid evil upon the world. While Alystin was lucky to be alive and free from these foreigners’ captivity, she would be hunted as long as she remained on the Mortal Plane.

Could she walk away from this man and the other survivors? It would be safer for everyone involved if she just left. Her parents would no longer be in danger. They could rebuild their home, and, in time, forget about the girl they raised and prosper. Even the knight-errant could continue on his quest to prove his knightly virtues. Everything would work out if she just disappeared.

However, fate would have other plans. She lifted her head and blinked against the acrid smoke still filling the air. The smell was one of the only things left from the raging inferno that took everything from them. She clenched her jaw and hardened her heart.

Alystin knew what she had to do. She would have to avenge her village and the people who didn’t make it out. A High Seer, the leader of the cult who razed her foster parents’ tavern to the ground, ordered the attack, and the people on the Arathean continent would no longer be safe until the monster was vanquished to the Death Plane.

So if you are, I'd love if you could answer for for Alystin Torrath and Brennan Draig from your novel Flight of the Dragon.

1 - What are their love languages? 19 - How do they silently/subtly express their love for each other? 29 - What is something they can never agree on? How do they meet in the middle?

Hello, Verba. I took some "me-time" yesterday, so I missed this game. I'll answer these questions anyway, as I love to talk about these two. I hope you're having a wonderful day or night.

What are their love languages?

Alystin Torrath's love language is physical touch. When Brennan revealed he was in fact a dragon and she was not hallucinating, her first instinct was to stroke him between his eyes. It amused Brennan that she didn't act hesitant as most humans would when confronted by a 640T creature.

Although she loves physical intimacy with him, she adores small, physical gestures as well. After Brennan has the Alabaster Citadel built in what will be known as the Olessan Providence, Alystin and Brennan could be regularly seen in the gardens. She loves to sit on a stone bench with a leather-bound book in her hands. Brennan will drape his arm over her shoulder as he too reads.

She will regularly run her fingers through his hair and brush the back of his neck with her fingertips. Although she always protested as she didn't want to offend him, he insisted that she rides him when she's pregnant with his children. Alystin will rest her hand along the enormous frill running down his back.

For Brennan, I did a lot of research on animal mating rituals. I wanted him to have qualities that would be realistic as possible. Brennan is a dragon with an impressive hoard, which is lost to him when his home was under siege. This is reflected in his love language as his is gift giving.

Many would assume that giving a gift to a dragon is materialistic and about items, but this is a misconception. It could be that his loved one found flowers that remind them of Brennan, purchasing his favorite foods, or leaving a small token of affection for him to wake up to.

The most expensive present that Alystin ever gifted him was a knightly sword with a silver fish-tail pommel that was said to be forged from metal gifted from the gods. She would have it inscribed with a blessing from Amés, the god of love.

After Brennan united all of the Olessa region and created the empire that is featured in Cold as Ice and Pale Fire, all of the dragon emperors possessed this sword. Crown Prince Vaene Arturis possesses it in the last act of Cold as Ice. Vaene would need this sword to prove his birthright in the last novel of the Dark Savior trilogy.

Brennan loves to shower Alystin with gifts, too. There are times where he will take her shopping. It was during one such event that he would purchase a necklace with a blood carnelian carved into a heart. She kept this necklace all through her life and was buried in it.

The most expensive gift was given to Alystin after her death. He returned to Adwen ferch Afan castle, where she was born, with her. Her body was entombed on the island. The exact location was lost to the passages of time. Brennan would commission a lifelike statue of her and keep a watchful eye over the shrine. He would drive away any who dare step foot on the island.

As an aside to their primary love language, both of their secondary one is spending time together. After Alystin was hurt by a cultist and Brennan transformed into his true form to quickly put an end to the attack, they would stay in a room Brennan rented from an inn.

Here, Brennan would regale her with tales of his knights. They would also ask each other riddles. Brennan would complement her on her cleverness, further deepening the relationship between them.

How do they silently/subtly express their love for each other?

While they do occasionally say I love you, Alystin and Brennan are confident in their relationship that they usually do not need to say it. They just don't find it important to say "I love you" all the time, and I would go as far as to say they wouldn't feel comfortable doing so.

The biggest way that they show their love for each other is that they're open and vulnerable. When she learns that almost all of Brennan's flight was wiped out by the Cult of the Old gods, Alystin weeps and wishes that the gods didn't bless her with her abilities. Brennan would respond that she is stronger than she often lets on, and she doesn't need to carry her burden alone. He would be there for her every step of the way.

After the Huntman is burnt to the ground, Alystin escapes with her family and animal companion into the surrounding forest. They stumble upon Brennan's campsite. At this time, they aren't in a relationship, and Alystin only knows him as a patron of her parent's inn. Brennan is the one who tells her the truth about who and what she was and offers to train her to protect herself. They will always support each other -- even when they were only friends.

Adeon, Alystin's foster father, was the first one to notice the developing relationship between his daughter and Brennan. Whenever Alystin and Brennan would see each other, their eyes would sparkle. After they break after a kiss, they are always smiling.

What is something they can never agree on? How do they meet in the middle?

As a 1200-year-old dragon, Brennan is among the oldest beings in Arathea. The only creatures that are older are the Great Horses. He tends to have a powerful stride and overwhelming presence. With his age, he tends to have limitless patience. He always weighs the pros and cons of any outcome.

Alystin is the complete opposite. As a human, her life span is short. It is common for people who have access to body magick to expand their life to the mid-90s. Without the intervention of the magi, the life expectancy was around 32.2 years. Because of this, the short-lived races were always considered impatient by Brennan's standards.

She is not immune to rashness. In fact, impatience is her fatal flaw. Her need for instant gratification makes it hard for her to appreciate what she has. Brennan does support her, as she has the fate of the world upon her shoulders, but he also encourages her not to be as hasty.

They meet in the middle by talking over each other's valid points and accepting that they are two different people who have experienced different events. Brennan has seen loved ones come and go. Alystin is only experiencing those losses now.

Synopsis:

For Brennan Draig, existing is a godly right — and it comes with an everlasting price. Centuries has honed his suspicions, but he is an dutiful servant to Amés, the god of love.

For Alystin Torrath, family and friendship are a luxury. Something you never take for granted. As an orphan with hair the color of grains of wheat, she’s grown up under the watchful eye of two inn keepers and learns that most are judgmental.

After an assassin from a cult attacks her village, Alystin learns that taking risks is paramount to her survival. Risks like traveling with the older man her foster parents had always warned her to leave be.

But to assure the world’s survival, Alystin must turn her back on the only life she known and embrace the birthright that Amés has gifted her.

Locations:

ENETH represented the first advanced civilization in the Mortal Plane leaving behind a number of massive buildings complexes, sophisticated art, and writing systems. Its economy benefited from a network of trade around the horsehead continent and beyond. This is where the Cult of the Old Gods originates.

OLESSA was a civilization on the Arathean continent that comprised a loose collection of culturally and linguistically related city-states and other territories.

GLOREYDT was a collection of settlements who were lead by tribal chieftains. These chieftains owned multiple farmsteads. They would raid neighboring kingdoms to steal gold and take people as slaves. The things that they stole were often sold to buy things that they wanted. The rest of the eyars, they farmed their land and raised animals for food.

Magic

The power may be used for healing, destruction, conjuring illusions, and altering form. Each type of magick is devoted to a school. For example, healing is often used in Body magick. Only a very experienced magi can alter their form through body magick, bending their bodies to resemble different people and, even, animals.

Magickal gifted children are born throughout the world of Arathea. A child will experience a quickening (or a surge in lay man’s terms) of magickal talents around adolescence.

The power to cast spells is drawn from Ven. A magi may use the ven in the environment to strengthen their spells; however, this is only temporary. It will leave the mage weakened for a long time after its use.

Magick is cast through the scents and sounds within the air. It ignites parts of the synapses of the brain that was previously unused in the humanoid races of Arathea. A mage that is versed within Elemental Magick can ignite the untraceable scent of questar, a natural combustible gas in the air with the ven within their bodies. They force the flames out of the pores of their hands.

Main Characters

Adeon Torrath - Adeon’s real name is Adeon Hesjing Vargach. He is also a silver dragon like Brennan and Beatrix. Adeon is the best of Brennan’s knights and his best friend. He is the one who went in search for the Hart for an animal sacrifice to ensure Alystin would grow up strong. Adeon is Alystin’s foster father and, eventually, comes to regard Isona as his mate.

Alystin Torrath - The most striking detail about Alystin is that she is actually a Child of Prophecy, a title given to those who are foretold to hold the fate of the Planes of Existence in their hands. Alystin is the only one who can open a portal standing on a leyline to the Death Plane from the mortal plane.

Brennan Draig - Brennan is a silver dragon and the ruler of Seralia, a section in the Olessa region. This region will become the Olessan Providence, Olessa Major, and Olessa Minor when the Olessan Empire is formed. Brennan’s family has watched over the Blayney tribe as it was foretold a Child of Prophecy would be born to one of its queens. When his castle is sieged by a mysterious cult devoted to the old gods, he will become a knight-errant to search for information about its existence and motives.

Ellarian Jhaer - Ellarian Jhaer is the product of chaos and the High Seer of the Cult of the Old Gods. She was born in a small Glorendine village. Her father would sell her to a chieftain from a neighboring tribe. She would be abused before she murdered the chieftain at a young age. At 10, Ellarian would be abducted by Enethian members of the cult and tortured until she broke mentally. She just wants to watch the world fall into chaos.

Kitos - Kitos is an orphan boy who grows up in Siollán. Alystin befriended him when he was younger, and the other children refused to play with them both. He is also a member of the Cult of the Old Gods. He would betray Alystin and burn down her foster parents’ inn.
