Fave and least fave thing about filming BUB:

Fave: ability to do things they usually wouldn't be able to do. They were able to fly to see family more often early in their marriage.

Least: People assuming things about them basically. Sometimes she felt she wasn't accurately portrayed due to editing long hours down.

When did you wear pants for the first time:

She got a pair of goodwill jeans. She wore pants for the first time on her honeymoon.

Did you always know you would have a large family:

They always knew they wanted a large family due to their family sizes. When she first got married she wanted 10 kids.

Are you finished having children:

"I'm pretty sure." On a date with John last week, she asked how he felt about another one. He said she could do what she wanted. The next day, they go out with all 5 kids and said nevermind.

Will you ever move back to Tennessee:

Never say never but it seems like never lol.

Would you ever cut your hair to your shoulders:

She did that after having Allie but she doesn't like how her face looks with short hair.

How do you get private time with your hubby:

Maci and Rhett go to bed at 7:30 and the older girls have to go to their rooms at 7:30. They read until 8:30 or 9.

Would you allow your kids to go to secular college:

She doesn't care but they need to know what they want to do before they go so they don't switch from thing to thing.

Height and comparing herself to how she was before Rhett

Do you really get along with all your siblings:

No. Realistically with 18 siblings and 10ish in-laws, there will be conflict. She is "friendly and cordial with everyone".

No

Would you consider another denomination other than Baptist:

She doesn't care about denomination if the church teachings align with the Bible.

Are you visiting TN anytime soon:

She has loose plans to go back in Nov.

I've finally got round to watching Alyssa's homeschool update for the year. I'm a primary trained teacher in the UK (ages 5-11) so was intrigued.

Have to say I don't love her approach with any of the kids. The comments are full of homeschool parents approving the approach so it seems to have gone down well with them but it just doesn't work for me.

I'd say the benefit of homeschool over regular school is that you can individualise the approach to your children and also in depth discuss concepts they struggle with or push concepts they grasp well. Alyssa says this so that does seem to be her attitude as well. But her approach with the little ones is to put them in front of a DVD and leave them to it to learn (and she complained she had to 1:1 teach Allie when this didn't work for her further up the school). Then her approach for the two bigger girls seems to be that they are self teaching off audio tapes, work books and test papers.

It just feels like all the benefits of homeschool (actually spending time 1:1, 2:1, 3:1 etc. to see where their strengths and weaknesses are in a way you can't in a class of 30 and teaching to those strengths, designing your own curriculum based on interests, really diving into a love of learning) have basically been ignored in favour of how Alyssa can avoid too much actual teaching... as the teacher of her children at home.

I just want to ramble about one of my favorite characters that gets over looked in her own game (because let’s agree while Bates is really cool) his sister Alyssa is equally as interesting and mysterious.

While Alyssa is much more meek and fearful, she is very peculiar. Caring for her family regardless of the Maxwell Curse, even after learning of her history, who her father(s) are, she still cares for Allen Hale, despite his actions.

Even as a teenager, watching her little cousin become possessed by the Maxwell Curse, overcoming obstacles and fending off strange characters, she’s resilient

Sure she had Bates by her side to assist through it all, he’s always there for her, protecting her, keeping her safe, just like that time when she was bullied by her class mates, Bates was there

But Alyssa doesn’t rely on Bates, never is she like “I need Bates to save me” she wants to keep him locked away, hidden, suppressed. Regardless of how hard things got, she stood her ground or used quick thinking to overcome the challenge.

I understand that Clock Tower 2/Ghost Head is the “lesser” Clock Tower game, but I always viewed it as its own stand alone game.

That and I’m very biased towards these cursed twins

Is anyone here familiar with both Bakugan and Clock Tower: Ghost Head? Because I could totally see Alice and Masquerade having a similar dynamic to Alyssa and Bates; Hell, Alice and Alyssa’s names are even similar! You’ve got this shy girl who would never hurt a fly, and then suddenly a dark, villainous personality with a masculine voice and presentation takes over. But this aggressive persona cares very much for the other, nevertheless.

There’s obviously differences; Alyssa is being possessed by the ghost of her dead twin brother, whereas Masquerade IS Alice, or rather a suppressed part of her personality externalized. But as someone who really enjoys Alyssa and Bates’ whole thing, I’d love to imagine for Bakugan a post-S1 scenario where Masquerade occasionally emerges... But since there’s no more secret to upkeep, it’s just his voice emerging from Alice, who looks the exact same save a dark aura, and maybe different-colored eyes...

How about blue eyes? They’re the color of Masquerade’s titular mask, which arguably IS his true face, rather than it being Alice’s. And the blue blends in with the visor, playing into the screen being practically non-opaque, thereby hiding Alice’s visage underneath.

Again, I know that Masquerade isn’t a brother to Alice but literally just her, and while I really would love to see a storyline for her where this connection is acknowledged as she bridges the gap between these personas to highlight how they’re equally real sides to Alice... At the same time, Alice and Masquerade having this shared body dynamic the way Alyssa and Bates do is too much fun. You’ve got this incredibly soft and pastel girl, and suddenly her eyes turn a bright blue as she’s enveloped in a Darkus aura, her back straightens as her gaze turns harsh, and a completely different voice comes out.

Do you have the same blood clotting issue?

It is genetic from Gil’s side of the family. Once they discovered it was a family issue, she had already had a couple of kids. Since she has no complications, she has not been tested.

Have you visited Erin at her place?

Yes, several times.

Do you take the kids on family vacations?

Not really. They go to TN and SC with the kids though. John considers that a family vacation but Alyssa does not. They do go with the Websters to the beach every year. They mostly do dad and mom vacations. They want to wait for the kids to get older to do actual vacations like skiing. 

Which of the kids is most like you?

Allie has Alyssa’s organizational skills. Alyssa said Lexi looks the most like her at that age. Lexi and Zoey are most like John.

Will you have a sixth child?

No, the pregnancies were too tough. John said accidents can happen.

Who is the last Duggar you have spoken to?

James and Jana. Alyssa talked to them the other day. John was only on the call with James.

Have you ever drank alcohol?

No

Will you continue the vlog in 10-15 years?

Probably not. Their children would be about 11-19 and that is so far in the future.

Is John still working from home?

No. He has been training people and one of their guys got hurt and is out. He will likely go back to WFH.

Did you picture yourselves with 5 kids?

They wanted a large family and to do it pretty early to mitigate risks to mother.

Redditors speculate you only take the kids to church and Costco. Is this true?

John got a lil laugh out of that. Alyssa said the girls do karate two nights a week. John does softball two nights a week and the kids tag along. They are also in church programs on Sundays. They do co-ops once a week and playdates. They also sometimes go to Publix instead of Costco. John said “who reads Reddit anyways?” Um, Carlin lol. John says he can’t remember the last time he read a Reddit post (idk if this means r/BringingUpBates or in general) and Alyssa claims to have never read one.

Do you have non-Christian friends?

Alyssa said they have friends from all backgrounds and religions. Alyssa does admit people gravitate to those who are similar. John said he has always had non-Christian friends. 

How does John’s relationship with Rhett differ from his relationship with the girls?

John is “rougher” with Rhett because he loves to tease and wrestle and chase. The girls don’t like that as much.

2022 Bates Predictions Review

No baby for 2022. The house is looking great though.

Unfortunately no baby this year. They have been promoting their business a lot but it doesn't seem like Michael has been allowed to get a job so she can use her degree.

Erin hasn't really commented on her ovaries this year but thankfully Finley was born healthy. I was wrong about the house as they've moved to Florida.

Lawson and Tiffany married in May. No attendance from Bindi but yes I'd say it was over the top compared to some of the other weddings.

Nathan and Esther announced their pregnancy on Mother's Day and their daughter Kenna Joy was born in October, which is pretty much the end of the year.

I was wrong about the pregnancy announcement but right about them adding to the family in the next few years. I knew Maci wasn't their final child.

Tori was indeed pregnant when I wrote my predictions. She and Bobby welcomed Cambree (no K name) in August.

Trace and Lydia got engaged quicker than I was expecting with their engagement in March and wedding in October.

Turns out Layla unfortunately wasn't the only one experiencing health issues this year. Zade was born in mid March, they moved house but kept Izzy.

No pregnancy announcement for these two.

Katie did struggle with being away from her family and there were a lot of trips to see her in New Jersey. Baby #1 was announced in August and Hailey James is due in March.

Jackson didn't join the police and instead got himself a girlfriend. Kelly sadly lost her mom. It was a fairly quiet year for everyone else.
