Drabble - Know
It's Argyle's Fandom Cheese Plate - Day 8! | Fandom: Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter | Pairing: Henry/Abe
"Tell me, Abraham. That apple you have. What does it taste like?"
"You don't know what an apple tastes like, Henry?"
"I don't know what an apple tastes like to you, my friend. Besides: it has been a while."
"Oh. Well. It's sour."
"Yes."
"But not over sour, you know? Not enough to purse your lips—not like the apples Ma used to jar for us to eat in winter. Smooth, not grainy. And the skin is nice and firm, the flesh also, so that when you bite into it, you get that great crunch—!"
"You're dribbling."
"Mm. Juicy too."

So Jason's a big ol' theater nerd, but does he sing? Would he have sung along with the ALVH soundtrack on the drive back home (had Dick not been doomed by the narrative sorry dude migraines suck), or is he strictly a 'sing only when alone' kind of guy?
Oh I definitely think Jason sings, but mostly in a joking way when he's around his family to have fun and be annoying (or at least that's the way he plays it off).
I think when he's actually trying, he has a better-than-average (but not particularly show-stopping) voice, and he'll use it in musical roles. But he also goes for the roles that require less singing or more... quirky singing? Like him being Audrey II in Little Shop of Horrors. It's not just his straight up singing voice— he adds a little flavor to it so it's more of a performance, which is kinda Jason's MO in the S.O.B. series. Vulnerability is one of the main issues he struggles with, but performing and acting gives him a shield to hide behind where he's not bearing his actual soul to the audience— he's just playing a character, you know?
So basically, he'll totally belt out songs in the car to be silly, and he has no problem singing on stage when he's playing a character, but his actual singing voice? His honest-to-god-bearing-his-soul singing voice? That's reserved for only the most special and imitate of moments, like singing to his mom as a kid to keep her calm during a bad night.
#settle our bones#i hope this makes sense#it does in my head but idk if i'm explaining it very well#it's all about vulnerability and intimacy

Random Eddie Poe headcanons bc I’m bored
Some stuff is based on the books, so they’ll get a * when mentioned
Eddie’s parents are well off, money wise
He has a younger sister name Annabelle
The Poe’s don’t really pay attention to their children*, however Annabelle is the more taken care of of the two
This is why Eddie wears clothes that are too big*, because he had to buy them himself
Plus why he had to earn all the money himself for his camera*
Eddie has created a “Crime Board” but for vampires, red string and all
He has random pieces of vampire media pinned to his wall and tries to figure out which is the most accurate to Vlad
Eddie discovered Edgar Allan Poe shortly after he started suspecting Vlad and kind of freaked out (Guy with ((mostly)) your name writes about spooky things, and you’ve discovered spooky things in your school!)
He loves Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter
He prefers the book version of ALVH, because of Edgar Allan Poe’s role in it (Edgar tells Lincoln that vampires are real and gives him cross for protection)
Eddie told Joss about this and suggested they go as the two for Halloween, Joss didn’t find it funny
Eddie did a project about EAP and everyone thought it was about his weird crazy grandpa or something

Hello!! This isn’t a question, but I just wanted to tell you how much I absolutely loved Take My Hand (Take My Whole Life, Too) 🥺 I just finished it and my life feels complete now, so thank you for creating this wonderful piece of art and sharing it with the world 🧡
Oh gosh, hello! I don't often get to hear from other fans of ALVH, this is exciting! I'm so glad to hear you enjoyed the story ❤️
It's funny that you bring it up now; I'm enrolled in a Civil War and Reconstruction era history class this semester and I have been fighting very hard not to think about vampires the entire time (and mostly failing. The Vampire Hunter worms never really leave you)
#thank you for taking the time to send this it was such a nice surprise to read this morning!#piratesmakebraingobrrrrrr#answers from solar

How about 5 and 18 for the fanfic writer asks?
5. What’s a fic idea you’ve had that you will never write?
For a long time I actually wanted to turn a very long running ALVH RP I had with a then-friend of mine into a slow burn Abe/Henry fic. We wrote it in the gap between the two books so a lot of it was leaning into a AU (I remember we really expanded the role of Poe's vampire friend Reynolds and went very dark with the few hints of Henry's time with Crowley).
It won't get written because my friend and I had a falling out and I'd feel a bit weird writing it without his blessing, plus it was all saved on iChat files and those seem to be inaccessible with the new update to mac.
18. What’s one of your favorite lines you’ve written in a fic?
It's actually really hard to say because I'm super critical of my own writing to the extent I usually have to set a cut-off point for revisions otherwise I'll keep trying to tweak things that don't need fixing. I do like some of the dialogue I've come up with for my fic because I think it sounds pretty in character, but no obvious example jumps to mind.

Cross-canon ships were the shit and so fun and wild, like melding into universes together.
Clint Barton and Evan Buck Buckley fuck yeah
Henry Sturges from ALVH with anyone also Fuck yeah!
Give me everything!
TikTokers are such pussies when it comes to ships. “B-but they’re not canon 🥺🥺🥺😭😭😖😖” honey back in my day we shipped characters from entirely different medias uphill both ways in the snow

and the important part here for me is "if you make a historical film and claim accuracy". you dont have to. its fine. you can make abraham lincoln vampire hunter, you can market it as a vivid reimagining of the past, you can say you're doing historical fiction inspired by these figures. thats all good, and in my opinion actually is kind of interesting to study in and of itself - what does it say about modern american narratives about america that the vampires in ALVH are confederates and enslavers? how does that compare to portrayals of confederates in other fiction? etc etc.
theres also some interesting stuff here about how we narrativise the past - how we always, necessarily have to narrativise the past in order to talk about, the act of talking about it is narrativising it, we're always picking a place to start and a place to end and choosing whose perspectives to explore and which facts to include etc etc. if your fictionalised historical drama is a way of exploring those questions, cool! they're good questions!
but if you claim your work is 'based on a true story' and market it as being historically accurate, then for fuck's sake do your research and accept a little responsibility.
Ridley Scott, regarding his new Napoleon movie, is being aggressively defensive about its inaccuracies with historians. He's gone on record saying "When I have issues with historians, I ask: ‘Excuse me, mate, were you there? No? Well, shut the fuck up then.’" This is a classic argument of people with no idea how historians do their work, how historical accuracy is determined and evaluated, and - in Ridley Scott's case in particular - how important it is to properly portray historical accuracy in other media.
The reason why Ridley Scott is being so aggressively dismissive of complaints about historical accuracy is due to past beef leading to a problem he likely has.
This is a movie that, by din of being touted as a 'nonfiction' movie about a historical figure, is basing much of its marketing on historical accuracy by default. The trailers show it's not, and reviews by historians say it is riddled with dozens if not hundreds of inaccuracies. Napoleon's portrayal is frankly a surface level depiction and nowhere near the nuance that historians were hoping for.
Scott's defensive about it. He need not be. If he had a historical consultant then he could go "I'm not an expert on the time period, but I have someone who is, ask them about it" and fob them off on his movie's historical consultant. It's a whole Thing. He doesn't have one, however, so he has to defend it personally.
You see, Ridley Scott probably didn't hire a historical consultant for Napoleon. The last time he had one - Kathleen Coleman for Gladiator - she was so upset over the inaccuracies he pushed through and how little her work affected the film, she requested her name be taken off of it.
Why this is important is because so many more people will watch a movie made by Ridley Scott than I or any other person could write. More people will watch Scott's Napoleon in the States than five hundred books about Napoleon combined worldwide.
More people watched Dunkirk than ever read a book about the Evacuation of Dunkirk. The movie Breaker Morant did so much for public perception about the execution of a genuine war criminal people in Australia still on occasion call for a pardon for Morant.
Fundamentally, mass media like movies will always have more impact of a popular perception about somebody, a time period, an event. That's why Ridley Scott making an inaccurate movie and going 'oh, you weren't there, you didn't see it with your own eyes, so how could you know, I don't have to listen to you' is a problem.
