My take on the twins! Always thought that the homeworld gems should look a bit less human. Some headcanons under the cut-

• Lars felt weird just calling them ‘the twins’- they’re two people, not a unit. So he nicknamed the gem on the left ‘Rue’ and the one on the right ‘Tai’. It’s not the most creative solution, but neither of them seem to mind.

• On pronouns: Rue and Tai both use she/her pronouns, but refer to their body as ‘theirs/ours’. For example, “Tai almost got our form dissipated the other day- she’s got the WORST hand-eye coordination.”

Have some basic ideas and concepts for my fraggle rock human au, cause I’ve thought a lot about it (i like it :) ) but have yet to write anything down

UNDER THE CUT CAUSE THERE’S A LOT OF STUFF!!!!!!

FIRST OF ALL it’s a college au, cause ive always imagined them to be about that kind of age. They’re all either freshman or sophomores— they’re in the same grade, just either one would work. They’re room assignments are also the same as in the show, with boober having scored a single

As for majors/minors/activies/character roles:

Gobo: majors in anthropology, and minors in music. Wouldn’t be apart of any official band programs, but would be that one guy who carries his guitar everywhere

Red: majors in creative writing and/or media studies. She’s on the hockey team, the swimming team, and does track (at least). Maybe she does percussion for one of the school bands

Mokey: double majors in creative writing and art. Very involved in all the theater companies on campus, and will eventually write a play for one of them to perform. Will hold impromptu jazz jam sessions

Wembley: undecided. His current strategy is to take classes in as many different majors as possible (it’s not really working out). Is in the pit for the marching band

Boober: majors in hospitality and culinary (maybe one of those is a minor?) He helps out with theater sometimes and would definitely get an on campus job in one of the dining halls

Cotterpin: majors in architecture and engineering, minors in art, and would later get a masters in buisness management. Shes also in the marching band pit. She is overworking herself

Wrench: majors in engineering. Im honestly not sure what else hed do :(

Marjory: that one old history professor that everyone loves. Philo and gunge are her teaching assistants

Architect: runs the architecture and engineering programs

Uncle matt: an alum of the school who got somewhat famous and now regularly donates to it. There’s a lot of wings and benches named after him

Other stuff:

Mokey is the only one from the main five that cotterpins not friends with, even though shes the only one cotterpin has classes with. They just never talk

Gobo regularly forces his friends on hikes around campus

Marooned happens when red is trying to distract boober from his surprise party and shoves him in a storage closet. They both get locked in there over night. Boober effectively freaks her out by telling her how easy itd be for them to starve to death in there (they’re fine tho)

That’s most of what i got :) suggestions for doc or the gorgs would be appreciated, ive got very few ideas

Night Island - A Theory (post-IWTV S2 finale); Spoilers for TVA

This is literally just me spitballing; I could be waaaay off. But I was just talking about Armand's character development going forward, especially wrt his relationship with Benji & Sybelle. And it got me thinking of the cancelled(?) Immortals Universe spinoff Night Island--cuz it was supposed to star a boy and a girl, too....

Kip & Maya are art thieves who're tryna rob Night Island, unaware that the joint is run & operated by the Vampire Armand.

In QotD, Armand built Night Island for Daniel, as his paradisaical playpen/prison/psych ward--a la Loumand in Dubai.

I know nothing about the production hell the NI spinoff ended up in, or why it wasn't released. But we do know who wrote NI: Jonathan Ceniceroz--the same writer for 2x5--the "Devil's Minion episode."

So now I'm wondering if the delay was in any way due to lining up the plot of Night Island with Armand & Daniel's character arcs in S2? Cuz they'd have to consider 2 things:

The events in SanFran from 2x5, after Loumand dumped mindwiped Dan in a drug den after the interview. (The spotty timeline potentially leaves avenues open for exploring WTF Armand was up to in the 80s, 90s, & early 2000s, which AMC has not explained yet at all).

The events post-Dubai from 2x8, when Armand finally turns Daniel into a vampire (and ditches him "out of spite"--which tracks with his irregular appearances in & out of Daniel's life in DM/QotD).

And I'm ALSO wondering if Kip & Maya are AMC's take on Benji & Sybelle from TVA. That could be neat, cuz B&S were basically street urchins, and Benji was a little preteen scam artist rapscallion who had to think quick on his feet to look out for himself & Sybelle. Ageing them up into young adult art thieves could be brilliant--having them bust into Night Island, rather than Armand literally falling in their laps, all burnt up after his suicide attempt post-Memnoch.

I've been booing & hissing AMC making Armand a daywalker ever since S1, cuz it totally effs up his character arc walking into the sun after Lestat showed him Veronica's Veil. By making him sunproof, it removes Armand's ability to try committing suicide, and removes B&S's chance to help & befriend him when he's hurt. But it makes great sense to transplant a B&S-like (hopefully not B&S-lite) alternate version in Night Island for Armand to bond with instead. 👀

The gremlin can still give them hell, a la the Dybbuk (demon) Benji always fondly called Armand, and still grow to love & care for them. And ultimately--if Kip & Maya's lives end up in danger cuz of their heist, that might present a window for AMC!Marius to swoop on in and Turn them for Armand, as he does in TVA. 👀 (DO NOT have Armand turning anymore fledglings--Daniel's his ONLY one for a effing reason, AMC!)

And Daniel being a vampire now lines up with Trinity Gate, and how by the end of TVC Armand, Daniel, Marius, Benji & Sybelle were all living together as a family.

Unless I'm way off base and Kip & Maya are just 2 bumbling idiots Armand DGAF about, who're gonna die at the end of the spinoff. 😅

As I said, IDFK, I'm just thinking out loud.

If you work with felt or wool or any other natural fibres, you may be wondering how you can dye them without introducing chemicals and difficult processes. Well, look no further than SOLAR DYEING!

Process:

- Pretreat fibre (aka mordant) with alum to make the color stick

- Put wet fibres in a sealable glass jar with fresh or dried plant material

- Leave in the sun for 2-3 weeks (depending on how much sun your jars get you can go shorter or longer!)

- Rinse out your fibres

What does the future hold for GS?

So I've been thinking about what the future is going to look like in Girl Scouting. And, while I imagine this will be a gradual shift, it's already happening. So here are my predictions for the next 10, 20, 50 years, below the cut because it is loooooong:

This is in no particular order because tumblr isn't letting me reorder stuff:

More multilevel troops - we're really seeing this in my council, but in a lot of areas single grade troops are a thing of the past. I don't think I know any in my council right now. I think we'll also see more demand for multilevel badges and Journeys, especially for Cadette and older (yes we miss the IPs).

More demand for progression building badges - GSUSA prides itself in Girl Scouting's progression, which is seen in some places but not in others. For example, it's seen in Safety Activity Checkpoints, with Girl Scouts getting more and more options available, and in travel, where you're supposed to start with an indoor overnight, then a one night activity, etc. However, a lot of the badges do not have that sort of progression. Some, like robotics, sort of do (although often they're super similar to each other OR lack the background needed for older girls they assume already earned the DBJ version and remember it), but others that are in the same series have little to do with each other (looking at you, Science of Happiness going with Home Scientist) and don't really provide the opportunity to build skills the way the Try-its, badges, and IPs I grew up with did. I think there will be more of a demand for all level badge themes, such as horseback riding, paddling, and specific types of arts and crafts.

More diversity in programming - this means programming beyond badges, programming beyond Journeys. I think that we're starting to see this, and some may say that this is the duty of other youth-serving organizations, schools, or parents, but I think that demand will by far outpace this argument. There's already a huge push for more outdoor/camp, so I think that will continue as well.

More demand for accessible outdoor programming - this means two things. One, it means accessible to those with disabilities, from better inclusion of autistic youth to making facilities more physically accessible (this is a huge debate in camping as a whole rn). Two, it means that it needs to be accessible in other ways, such as financially accessible, locally accessible, and ease of use.

Better badge resources - right now, a lot of supplemental badge resources are developed by councils, so they're very hodge-podge. GSUSA has made some starts, but lacks a comprehensive plan for supporting badges, especially more technical or challenging badges, or older GS badges. The VTK is a start, but tbh it sucks in both content and functionality, so GSUSA will need to do some serious overhauls of their resources in order to make things usable.

No more Journeys - Sorry, I do not think that Journeys will last the test of time, especially with the way they're formatted now. Troop leaders hate them, because they are challenging in a lot of ways, so there's a huge demand for council to run them, and like, they are not meant for a one and done Journey in a Day format. There's also the Take Action Project, which I feel is not part of a proper progression with how they dump new Daisy leaders in with similar guidelines as Seniors.

More emphasis on non-troop leader volunteering - this varies a ton between councils, and my council is in the infancy of developing non-troop volunteering (which is actually my job lol). But I think that less and less people are looking for the kind of volunteering required to be a troop or service unit volunteer, so there will be a greater demand from volunteers for short term or low commitment volunteer positions. I see this especially coming from young alums, but honestly for anyone looking for an organization emphasizing female empowerment without devoting hours upon hours to its service.

More emphasis on short term troop volunteering - again, people don't have unlimited time and bandwidth for leading a troop year after year. Having a short term opportunity, especially for young alums, college students, and busy professionals, will be an important way to increase volunteers and have Girl Scouts continue.

More non-parent volunteers - I think that this goes with the whole "millennials" aren't having kids trend. Right now, non-parent volunteers are an outlier, and sometimes treated like they're weird or creepy for wanting to work with kids that aren't their own. Grandparents, aunts, cousins, sure. Young alums without kids are acceptable. But just random adults who want to help? What are your qualifications and who "hired" you? Developing pathways for non-parents to volunteer with GS is definitely needed.

More embracing of gender diversity in Girl Scouting - this does not mean I think they'll allow in boys, but I do think they'll need to at least adapt to nonbinary participants, volunteers, and staff, because troops are already doing it and GSUSA has not caught up. It puts councils in an odd position, because leaders are doing one thing, GSUSA has been putting off commenting on gender stuff since 2020, and councils are in the middle, making up their own guidelines.

Does the Brotherhood of Dada exist in the headverse?

It does! They form around Eric Morden after he breaks away from the Brotherhood of Evil over their Thorul Society ties. The initial team (The Quiz, Sleepwalk, The Fog, and Frenzy) were a peaceful art collective until Morden (as Mr. Nobody) co-opted the group to assist him in the infamous "Painting That Ate Paris" incident. After being saved from a piece of the Consumptive Mural, that version of the Brotherhood reformed around another BoE alum, Laura DeMille.

Every Brotherhood and Sisterhood after that was essentially a "pop-up" team of metahumans of various moral persuasions, with some variations in name like "Nada" "Dangerous Animals" or "Young Animal" (the latter being the combined Brotherhood/Patrol group that formed during the Milk Wars)

Morden, despite constantly putting himself in charge of teams, was notoriously difficult to work with, but the group did stabilize a bit under his successor, Teresa Morden, better known as either Terry None or just the second Mr. Nobody (or Lil' Miss Nobody, but only if your name is Casey Brinke).

Terry has a particular ace up their sleeve after the Milk Wars, though converting Milkman Man from Retconn to Dada is a whole thing unto itself
