HSR characters as dragons

A/N: Hellloo, it is I once more with my dragon rambles. This time we're moving onto HSR a bit more. I do hope you all like how these turned out, and if you'd like any specific character turned into a dragon, please do lemme know in the comments or reblogs. Idk when I'll do the next part, but I do plan to continue this little series.

Content: Dr. Ratio, Luocha and Blade as dragons, x reader, gn reader, fluff, angst(Blade's part)

Dr Ratio:

-A lot don’t consider him a dragon, and they’d have a point since visually Dr. Ratio does lack in the stereotypical dragon aspects, and he himself would classify himself as a “gryphon” much more than a dragon. 

-Nonetheless, he makes the list of many dragon related magazines and novels and research papers

-Dr. Ratio is huge (doctor- you’re huge!)(not sorry) in this dragon form, he certainly does not lack in mass either, hiding quite the muscular form under all the feathers and fluff which he pays a lot of attention to

-One of the life goals he has set is that search for knowledge and more knowledge and to cure the illness called ignorance and stupidity. This life-long dedication has brought him to a lot of places, and a lot of forgotten where he truly hails from.

-Due to his size, he usually cannot fit in many places, and since he frequents cities, schools and so on, he is more often seen in his human form, handling his business accordingly and swiftly. He is calculated, and sometimes considers his beastly form something that represents 2 things. 2-The future version of what he wants to achieve; dragons and gryphons are often classified as hoarders of knowledge, being one of the wisest species that there is, and if he could achieve that peak form, he might have a better time fulfilling his goal. And 2-A representation of a more negative side of himself, driven more by beastly instincts. Quite the contradiction to the first point, which led Ratio to some insecurities about his form. He doesn’t want to risk being impulsive or acting on animalistic impulse, so he doesn’t take on the form that often at all.

-He doesn’t flaunt it either, but that doesn’t make it any less impressive of gorgeous to look at when he does take on the form of the giant bird-dragon

-Due to his build, he is quite well prepared should a fight arise - but as per his morals and protocol, he would much rather take the diplomatic route. Although if the intimidation factor would have any good use, he may arrive at the negotiation site in his dragon form, showing off his size and big claws before reverting to his human form when he lands.

-Don’t let anyone convince you otherwise, but his fur and fluff is so soft and he also smells really nice. (I could fall asleep in his fluff and never wake up)

-He is really cautious in his dragon form, stepping lightly and gingerly around anything that could be damaged or broken easily, specifically you. Speaking of that - for a dragon his size he really does step lightly. His footsteps don’t echo or tremble the ground like you may expect, and also similarly - he flies very silently. You don’t hear him approaching at all.

-He would let you pet him only after a lot of nagging, feeling a bit embarrassed mentally about the situation as he just sits there and then there’s you, a tiny human hopping around him all giddy and with stars in your eyes as you pet him and maybe even try to climb him. He’s grumpy, but he is flattered- especially since it is you bringing forth all this mirth and compliments for this beastly form, and also him as a human too

-He’s also ambidextrous, both in human and dragon form. 

-.... I'm tempted to say that in dragon form he can also use his hind legs as hands too due to this... like bro is skilled okay, knowledge gave him writing buffs lmao

Luocha:

-(pretty dragon pretty dragon-)

-A very kind looking dragon, gentle and smelling of spring and reminiscent of a bountiful harvest with his pale gold scales and flowing golden mane.

-It is unknown where exactly he came from, as he sort of just appeared one day and came to exist within the people’s memories

-Some of the jewelry decorating his mane and body were gifts from some youngsters he came across. He accepted these gifts and polished them before putting them on himself, wearing the gifts with pride, earning the trust of the locals smoothly and swiftly with his humble demeanor

-He is well versed in medicinal herbs and has offered his aid to many individuals, even fellow dragons. While he does frequent his dragon form a lot, as it also makes carrying wares easier, he is still human and both dragon and human need to eat. While he has offered free services to those in dire need, he does charge others, and although his prices are not high, the price is still there.

-Some claim he uses magic to grow his herbs, since everyone that got their wares of herbs from him claim that they instantly felt better, after a sniff or a first sip. 

-His front legs are a bit shorter, making his hips stand a bit higher when he is walking on all fours, but he is also able to walk on his hind legs, and his front legs are very flexible. He can harvest and plant his own herbs just fine in his dragon form. His heavy tail gives him a great balance and if need be he can run very fast. He is quite agile, whether it be on 2 or 4 feet and, despite the gentle nature, can fight.

-You can often catch him laying down in some sun-kissed spot near the city, surrounded by kids after his business hours, all kids admiring his form; playing with his mane or claws or scarves on his body, one kid is braiding little braids on one side, and there’s a kid that somehow  climbed their way up onto his forehead, holding onto his bangs for dear life. Luocha lays his head down, huffing as the kids exhaust themselves jumping and playing. Although if the sun is setting he doesn’t hold back on telling them to go home or telling them some ghost tale to scare them back into their parent’s arms. 

-He does love picking you up too if he is feeling cheeky, setting you on his back or his head as he walks back to your shared residence in that place.

Blade:

-Once a young, moon-kissed and pale dragon was now a shell of his former self, with only small patches of pale fluff standing out as a faint reminder of what he once was.

-His illness made spiky protrusions grow from his underbelly and it ruined his maw as well. However formidable it all made him, dark and scary, he was in constant pain.

-He is rarely ever seen, and ever since the ‘incident’ he has become a ghost tale to scare the kids with, a warning to any other long-life species as to what may happen if they follow down his route and what can happen if they're struck with the same illness as him

-Blade avoids any reflective surfaces in which he may look at himself, as that can sometimes make his mara flare up. He often spends his time in solitude, be it doing missions or spending his time in forgetfulness. Forgetting has become a hobby now, staring at the dark walls of some cave he found as he slowly realizes his memories are shrinking. It's as if all his puzzle pieces are being taken away from him, thrown away or hidden from his clutches.

-Blade frequently takes the form of the dragon, the pain seems more manageable when he is huge and terrifying. A lot of people that catch a glimpse of him also stay far far away, and unless they're the object of his mission - he won't go after them either. The sight of him alone is terrifying. 

-Big curled horns that are dark gray like the dark side of the moon, and if you look close enough there's small shimmers in the shadow clad corners of his scales and horns. Up close he is…pretty in his own right, his subconscious struggling to keep the remaining pieces of his past intact through physical attributes.

-His long flowing mane is soft and well kept, even if Blade doesn't particularly pay much attention to it, or the other fluff spots on his body. 

-He doesn't know where the jewelry in his hair came from, but there's something about it that forbids him from removing it. 

-The red sash around him was put there by Kafka and you, and if often maintained by you two. And there's something intimate about tying the bow at his back or putting the big golden clips into his fur. It's the trust he puts into you, and while it may seem like such a mundane action like helping someone button up their shirt, it means a lot more when Blade is in question, someone who doesn't let anyone else touch him or go near him.

-I think it is safe to say that this bad boy can fight. And fight he does. His mara has hardened his teeth further, and if any fall out during a scuffle, another one will take its place soon after. Although he is a bit long, he is quite strong. The only disadvantage he has is the fact that he is flightless. His species might as well fall into some branch of a drake. He can breathe fire though, and that ability has served him before in making weapons - these days though he doesn't use it much. He has teeth and claws, and that's enough. 

-During more easy days, he does like having you around, when his mara is silent and not dragging him under, your presence is comforting. He'll just lay down near you and soak in your presence. He will scoff or huff if you decide to shuffle closer, but he will most likely give in in times like these. Touch him, run your fingers through his fur, the fluff and the mane, he'll close his eyes and sigh. 

Size chart:

-Listen, I had a hard time trying to figure out sizes for them since they'd almost the same, but in the end I settled with this.

-Dr Ratio > Luocha > Blade

-Blade is huge but he is more long lol, and if it came to a hypothetical fight with either of the other two, Blade is winning no argument there, unless they yank him into the skies and slam him down idk

-There is a little difference in size between them tbh

Pleeease tell me about the steven universe one- Fuse. I really liked your post about the quiet horror of personhood and fusion and anticipate delicious ideas. I’ve put a single minute of thought into it and I feel like the entities and the gem empire being ancient rivals?

Wait no. The CLUSTER is a massive being composed of SHARDS that are each individuals part of a whole oh GOD worm taking place in SU but instead of the entities humans are being infected with gem shards and given powers! And it’s the same fucking shit because the cluster is a weapon of war so exploring gem powers via magic hybrids through conflict would totally work toooo. It’s almost too obvious. Even the way gems will suck up a planet for all its resources and move on to the next one is gold although that’s a p standard alien colonizer trope I feel. In this AU the ptr of this world classifies the different powers using types of gems. The crystal gems themselves are unchanged in powers,roles, etc.

Sorry writing as I’m thinking about it but in this world the corrupted monsters aren’t fucked it hems from the war but instead are either smaller scale broken triggers or people who have fallen too far into their powers or case 53s but with less brain.

In this au the power pool that cauldron is pulling from isn’t the cluster or another cluster but instead the blast from the diamonds at the end of the war shattered all the unprotected gems and Cauldron uses thier OP powers to find those shards to shove them into people.

People still have trigger events that awaken shards but it’s because all of the shards went through so much trauma so that’s how you wake em up. More trauma.

Rain and other multi-triggers don’t happen all at the same time instead it’s people who share the shards from a singular gem.

Chevralier sees the ghosts of the gem besides people.

ROSE would be scion in this. Idk how exactly but she just is don’t @ me. I think she might have fell in love with earth and turned herself into steven to stop the cycle but it just breaks it. Worms cape timeline starts 30 years ago but Fuse’s could start right when rose stops holding the cycle back and turns into steven, then accidentally setting things in motion without a steward to keep it back.

People think steven is just another shard carrying cape but he’s actually the rose/scion love child. What he does at the end of SU future is p close to the titans ngl but that’s just a thought.

I finished Fire Emblem 4: Genealogy of the Holy War!

Wew after 50 hours I'm finally finished! It certainly was an experience, and on the whole worthwhile. Excellent story and the gameplay was an interesting divergence, but had flaws mostly in that it could be a bit of a slog as turns took ages.

Some general thoughts

Played the Project Naga translation patch, hence some names and thoughts might only apply to that.

The storytelling is very different to modern Fire Emblem, but has its own charm. It's a lot more like a histoy book or epic stage play, and it's got its strengths and weaknesses. The story is told on a grand scale by a few major players, so it feels suitably epic and dignified, but at the cost of supporting characters falling by the wayside. The lack of support conversations hurts minor characters a lot here, although the conversation events do help a bit.

The game has so many funky little differences to regular FE, like everyone having their own reserves of gold, no one is able to trade but you have to use the pawnbroker instead, weapons (and some staves) have 50 uses and can be repaired from broken and repairing them enough powers them up, and abusing the arena is encouraged. All of these odd quirks quickly become quite endearing and give the game its own character, although if you don't know how to properly use them I can imagine them being more annoying than fun.

What is less fun is that the maps are HUGE and they take ages to complete. Or rather, the huge maps let you feel the scope of the story and there are some really fun tactical bits, but there are also some real bullshit things it drops on you that are more of a slog than anything, and often large stretches where you're just moving your units across the map without anything interesting happening. But making your way across the map and seeing all of the other characters (enemy, neutral or ally) acting and reacting makes it feel more alive and immersive as a game.

Horse Emblem is real here, and anyone who doesn't have a horse really falls behind when it comes to traversing maps. Ayra and her kids (Ayra x Lex OTP btw) turned out so strong, but it was so hard to use them because they just couldn't move as far ;_;

Ced with Forseti is absurd, but lacks a horse.

The pairing system is obtuse and inheritance is kind of terrifying at first, but fun to plan out. I definitely got some unintended pairings out of nowhere (Sylvia x Alec wtf) but most of them were planned and the kids were set up appropriately, and let me tell you it's very fun to make broken demigod child units /Awakening player

The ending bit was really cool, very modular and they all said their goodbyes in a way that felt pretty natural, and it was great to see everyone still alive and going off to rule well in the world. Except Verdane, Verdane got screwed because Jamke didn't marry anyone.

Oof I got some kind of glitch that set everyone's 'losses' to 116, even those that didn't fight, and my combat ranking was an E.

I really liked the story itself, and a lot of the characters stood out to me, even though I wished many of them had more dialogue and relevance. Often you'd get characters making a strong impression only to fade into the background, occasionally popping up again.

I definitely see all the inspirations that modern FE took from this. Awakening got the generational story and shipping system and demigod child soldiers. Three Houses got the epic scope and fleshed-out worldbuilding, and Edelgard owes a lot to Arvis (and I kinda wish she was more unapologetically villainous despite good intentions like he was, she feels like a watered down version, but I still <3 her), and the academy aspect probably draws from Sigurd and Eldigan's shared backstory. Fates got the incest. idk about Engage

Would I recommend it? To someone who's familiar with SRPGs, interested in a more epic grandiose story, and has a lot of patience, yes! To a newcomer or FE fan who is here for the anime hijinks and shipping, maaaaybe, depends on how appealing the gameplay all sounds - but if interested in the story and characters I'd still reccommend watching a playthrough.

Not sure where I'd personally rank it out of all the FE I've played, but story-wise it's definitely up there, gameplay-wise it's perhaps less so.

now that im at endgame i want to quickly run through my team and what i learned about awakening luna playing it again after seven or so years

what i learned:

i used WAY too many units. nice as it was to have a full second gen trip the late game it was not really feasible without a lot of grinding

its generally better to play aggressive than defensive on maps, even if it means you're not using pair up so you have better action economy. chapter 4 and chapter 9 were really tough until i went all out with the aggression.

myrmidon might actually be good in Luna bc avo+10 becomes really really good when it's cancelling out a whole bunch of hit+10s. this does not fix lon'qu's bulk issues.

map skirmishes blocking useful shops are the fucking devil and not something you can do anything about other than wait until you hit endgame. really annoying feature

DLC doesn't scale to game difficulty!! that's fun

weapon forging is my new best friend

van/ven is still ABSOLUTELY broken and Owain hard carried my team through several maps

and my thoughts on my team!!

Robin - i actually think i fucked up by second sealing at twenty instead of promoting? armsthrift is nice and i wanted it for Morgan's inheritance but robin fell off really really hard by the midgame and i never got him back so it would have been nice to have rally spectrum available when that happened. ultimately that was ok for me bc unlike the luna guides will tell you i was not solely relying on robin for the front lines but oof he fell off harder than Fred

Chrom - Chrom is Chrom. not much to say there. he didn't get to see a lot of combat early which kind of worked out in my favour bc it meant he was still in lord in chapter 12 and gave Sumia some HUGE effective dual strikes with his rapier. it might actually be worth delaying his first class change to get that?? as usual i went archer -> bow knight and he was great in both. rally skill is actually really good to have on a non-combat unit in later maps where everything has so much speed and avo, it definitely made the difference for Nah a couple of times

Sumia - MVP. oh my god she was so good. i had to grind Olivia anyway so i ran her through great knight and although i don't want her to see any enemy phase combat at this point it has been really helpful to have her fly in, kill something annoying with a luna proc and fly out again to physic or rescue. rally speed has been really helpful as well! i had to do a little hand holding with her in chapter two but early investment pays off so well and i can't think of another unit who can transition from frontliner to support as well as she can. love her.

Fred - when people say awakening luna is unplayable without using Fred are they like. are they just bad at the game? don't get me wrong he was fine but imo the Fred carry/Robin carry meta really only is true until chapter 3 which is... not long, and definitely not long enough for Fred to have the kind of reverence he has in Luna meta. idk. he was fine! i had to finagle a bit to get him and Olivia married which was a pain but then it was nice being able to give Olivia extra move via pairup in the late game.

Olivia - i normally bench her after getting the kids when i play hard bc galeforce is just better than dancing and she becomes a liability with the ambush reinforcements so it was kind of novel to still be deploying her in the valm arc, even though that was mostly just to dance Sumia so i had two actions worth of healing. i had to do a LOT of grinding with DLC to get her galeforce for inheritance which was pretty painful and her stats were never that good. dance utility for my healer has been pretty nice!

Sully - i probably shouldn't have used her and shouldn't have given her the resources that normally go to wyvern Panne but i LIKE her and she did really really well in chapter 12 after she promoted and got lance access back. Gaius s support is solid but those first few levels before reclassing were really difficult because her bases are just so low. if awakening luna slightly bumped up everyone's bases it would be a joy to play.

Panne - it says a lot about how good wyvern Panne is that i brought her back in to the team way too late and she not only kept up but then outperformed Sully who'd had so much more investment. brokenly good unit and by the time i got Yarne she had late game worthy stats. the lack of galeforce kind of hurts as does her weapon ranks - she was stuck using bronze axes for so, so long - but yeah. good unit. believe the hype.

Nowi - i have really mixed feelings about Nowi's performance because it was just. so painful. her bases do not get bumped enough and at the start everything was doubling her and her awful 18HP. speed issues continued for a long long time but she eventually kind of pulled it together. a bit. not sure I'll do this again

Vaike and Lon'qu - mostly they were used to produce Nah and Yarne respectively but they were ok!! really solid backpacks. Vaike's stats were toilet tier for a long long time but he got there eventually. lon'qu loved dual striking for panne so much it got her in trouble a couple of times. it's good that they can support each other as well!

Gregor and Miriel - i put so much into Miriel lmao i love her. woteva. she was fine, bulk and survivability issues but that's pretty standard for Miriel. i also had trouble with her critting things i did not want critted. Gregor got so little investment i actually felt kind of bad for him. i promoted him after like... one or two levels worth of dual striking experience but i probably should've done it sooner

Lissa and Libra - early promotion to get Lissa tomefaire (mostly from rescue staff abuse) was worth it! really solid performance from both of them and Lissa had decent offenses on her galeforce grind. i wish I'd used Libra as a frontliner more but ultimately Lissa needed more exp than him and that's how it worked out, but it felt like a missed opportunity bc Libra in luna is really, really good.

Sumia!Lucina - i was worried about her stats on recruitment but she's been really really good and had some fantastic survivability thanks to her aether procs. great unit, does everything she needs to. i ran her through great lord for rfk + rapier access and that worked pretty well! her final class was between bow knight and paladin but surprisingly paladin has better overall stats and she didn't desperately want anything from bow knight. i don't think i would want to do anything dramatically different with her

Chrom!Cynthia - BEAST. BEAST. BEAST. ALL OVER THE SHOP

Libra!Owain - my only van/ven build and boy did he do good work with it. kind of ruined a couple of maps when the computer abandoned all reason and prioritised attacking him bc he was a staff unit which was a pain but ultimately pretty recoverable. van/ven is good! van/ven owain is good!!

Gaius!Kjelle - sadly she became mostly just a pair up bot for Owain. i never quite got her offences up to scratch to get her galeforce which was a real shame. Owain appreciated the stats and a partner with flight though

Frederick!Inigo - ugh. my only real disappointment in this run. speed!! speed!!! where is his fucking speed!!!! giving him galeforce was nice and all but he can't use it very well if he can't fucking double!!!! Inigo!!!! what's going on there!!!!!! i think Fred passed down dual guard+ which is fine but ultimately inigo would've been better with either luna (the lack of offensive procs really started to hurt him) or deliverer for extra movement for Cynthia. kind of pain to level and promote. he relied on his s support with Cynthia a LOT.

Vaike!Nah - might have been a little too ambitious to want to run her through merc and hero before bringing her back to manakete but those Vaike offenses ended up really paying off. very very slow to start cooking but so good once she got going. sightly too tanky? enemies tended to avoid her on EP which wasn't helpful. her sol proc rates also need some work but overall a really solid unit and one i might bring back to hard mode or use in luna again.

Lon'qu!Yarne - I'm glad i made the decision to bring Panne back to avoid Lon'qu/Lissa. listen. i have not asked Yarne to do too much but he has done it so well and has probably contributed the most in battles for the least exp. bless him! bless his name!!! i wish Panne gave him a better class set. he could have been everything.... that said, even if my original plan of barbarian -> beserker -> griffon didn't work out due to lack of EXP he still did really well and sat in an unpromoted class until chapter 25 when i took pity on him and went to a DLC map. really solid guy.

Gregor!Laurent - i had such plans for a strong and bulky nostank with armsthrift and then it just... never happened. im sorry Laurent. i don't think i ever gave Gregor enough levels to make that work. he did ok promoting to dark knight instead of sorc to be Morgan's pair up bot but i kind of wish I'd managed to get him going. i have two forged Nosferatu in my convoy that i now can't use. whoops

Lucina! Morgan - less than 25 str or mag as a level 10 dark flier was not it. great crits, great aether procs but what the hell happened to her offensive stats. bizarre. probably not unfixable but she's going to close out the game as a rally spectrum bot. rip

Cynthia got the most MVP awards but Owain was just so, so good and Lucina did everything i needed her to. Sumia!!! she's so good!!!!! anyway i had a lot of fun with this run once i found my feet with it and i... honestly will probably finish it and immediately start another one lmao. it was fun!!!!

Omen - Viper - Sage theories coming up so buckle up kiddos

SO! Whatever happened to Sage and Viper, but mostly to Omen is what has caused the dimension break, creating multiple dimensions. Now, hear me out, bear with me, let me explain. So, whatever it was that has caused Omen to become what he is now, it has ripped him apart again and again, we know that. He has died multiple times. ("There is... another of me. How many times did I get ripped apart? How many times did I die?") His most important quote is "I am the beginning, I am the end." What does he mean by beginning? Maybe the dimension break, if it weren't for him getting split, all of this shit wouldn't have happened. Now, to talk about what I think he means about being "the end": Viper wants to help Omen become human again, it is one of the main things what drives Omen as well, it seems ("I will take back what is mine."). Although, I don't think he is sure of him ever becoming human again is possible. ("My burden never ends.") The voice lines have lead me to the conclusion that while the other agents ("impostors", "copies") are alternative versions of their 'original' selves (they are the same, but completely different... am I making sense?), Omen's 'copies' are way more than that. When he got ripped apart, he got 'split' between worlds/dimensions ("Split... sighs they don't know the meaning of the word.") that is why he is also always glitching, he is struggling to keep himself in one place, something is always pulling against him... (Although we know from one of his voice lines that if he gives in to this 'strain', he dies: "I let go for a second!" - when he gets resurrected (and some more voice lines fit in here but-, yea too lazy to write them all)) Fragments of himself literally scattered, either resulting in appearing in the many dimensions, or even creating them. Omen clearly shows some serious struggle to remember what has happened to him, and judging by his interactions, it is murdering other Omen's that gets parts of his memories back. "I will kill that Omen. I will take his memories. I will remember." // (Viper: "I wonder what's inside their Omen. What truth is he keeping from ours?") I do believe that he is especially out for the other Omen's blood.

But! It’s worth noting that he also feels better about himself when he's slaughtering the copies ("I feel like myself. Catch them. Again!" // "Again. Hurt them, again!") "How many must I kill before I am restored? sigh More. Always more." This could refer to the copies as well, but I think he is talking about killing other Omens. He seems to be very enthusiastic about killing his other selves, after all. Lil bit more I feel like could be connected to him feeling more like himself when he kills: "Close, I am so close." // "I can be even more." (The last two are new voice lines from deathmatch) Alright, so about his relationship with Viper. It is obvious that they've known each other before the 'tragedy' happened (Don't really know what else to call it, truth be told), we know that from their (mostly Viper's) voice lines. However, there is something that Viper is keeping from Omen. They both talk about getting the enemy Omen's memories. Maybe she kept some for herself? How... do you keep memories? Maybe I'm completely off track with this one, but her keeping secrets from him despite them trusting the other is worth mentioning. ("Don't die here, Sabine. I need your secrets.") Another thought: Maybe Omen knew the risk he was taking when he confronted the... thing that has eventually turned him into Omen (if we go with the theory of him not being the results of a failed experiment which I honestly doubt is true, but we don't know that yet. These are but theories.) What made me believe this was this voice line: "Make the right choice, even if it calls for sacrifice." Maybe it was an act of self sacrifice? (He took a risk to... to save something? Someone? Or for the sake of something I didn't think of? And well, he took the risk and look where it has lead... but maybe the other option was far worse? Maybe they had no idea what the options even were? Or what risks he/they were taking?) Him and Viper might have been counting on Sage to help them if things were to go wrong, alas, whatever it was that has happened was beyond Sage's powers. Omen: "I survived obliteration. I will survive them." I do not know what to say to this line, honestly. It's pretty self explanatory. Worth mentioning, though. 'Obliteration' does sound like something beyond Sage's powers to me x) So due to unknown forces (a massive explosion? a rift? idk) Omen has died, got split etc etc, and maybe Sage did try to revive him, maybe it did succeed, but not in the way they wanted it to; Omen was beyond redemption at this point. But she did reach out to him. With time I'm positive she has honed her skills enough for even Omen to recognize her strength. ("Sage, you are truly... limitless.") // (Sage: "I wasn't strong enough before, but now, now I am strong enough for us all." // "This is what I trained for.")

I do not know how to phrase this, but Omen has... ascented? Well, he certainly did become something way more than human. He senses when people are afraid around him, he feels what Sage's powers do to 'the natural balance' ("A Radiant healer is with them. I can feel her pull against the natural balance..."). Both him ("I have reset the balance." // "I will break the balance."- although the latter he means metaphorically, says it when the teams are tied) and Sage ("Tip the balance in our favour.") seem to have their hands on the scale, both tipping it. Sage pulling against the balance by reviving people, Omen resetting the balance by... killing? But why with killing? Well... another theory coming up: "Sage, the life you give. Do you ever wonder where it's taken from?" Remember what I wrote about Omen feeling like himself when killing others (and Omens)? I guess you could say he 'collects' when he kills to get 'restored' (back to the line: "How many must I kill before I am restored? sigh More. Always more.")... what it is he collects though, I lack the vocabulary to explain. Maybe that is where she gets the life from; from Omen. And if this is true, it also keeps him from getting restored. A quote from Viper that might be referring to this: "One more time, Omen. laughs How many times have you heard that now?"

Omen feels more obliged to kill and ‘tip the balance’ when sage tips the balance by reviving. Even, just maybe, that it’s stretched to Reyna “(...) You give life, i take it.” in a way, he is maybe fixing what sage has ‘broken’ or is doing what he believes will fix it. While we are at Viper, whatever that 'Obliteration' was, maybe Viper got blamed for it. She either lost everything due to the 'obliteration' or they took it away from her (she might has done time? idk this was a sudden idea haha) OR! A third idea. She might have been there when the 'tragedy' was happening; maybe a rift opened? Maybe that was the first time clones have appeared? Since it is the clones she is talking to when she says these lines: "You wanted a villain!? I gave you a villain!" // "I am your monster. You made me this way. Never forget that." // "Let's take from them what they took from me... Everything." // "They call me a monster. Shall I prove them right?" // ("I will not loose my home again." // "Hurt those who hurt us." // "We will hurt them.") ...Or I'm completely wrong and she is talking about something different. We shall not forget about Kingdom. Now, about Sage and Viper's vendetta against her. "Sage, you're the only one able to keep us alive. Don't fail us now, like you failed me then." Worth noting, she didn't say 'us', but 'me', 'don't fail me’. It is possible that she is talking about what has happened with Omen, but I think its more connected to her losing everything she had. How, you may ask? To answer that question: I have absolutely no clue. "That's payback, Sage." -When she kills Sage. Well, "Hurt those who hurt us." // "I am your monster. You made me this way." Hmm? Might be connected to Sage. Once again, I don't have many ideas what it is that Sage has (or hasn't) done for Viper to be so mad at her. Now a little bit about Sage! She doesn't really talk much about Viper, her voice lines are more directed towards Omen. "Omen. You are a force of nature!" (in contrast to Omen's voice line about her 'pulling against the natural balance') According to google: "To say a person is a force of nature means the person is a very strong personality or character.  In short, a person that is full of energy, unstoppable, and unforgettable. These attributes can play out in many ways, and those viewed as a force of nature, or who self-identify in this way, need to have an acute awareness of the impact, and consequences, sometimes unintended, of their power." ‘Force of nature’ in this case can be used in two contexts: to compliment omen by proclaiming he is strong, or to say that he is... one with the balance? His powers and who he is is literally a ‘force of nature’, becomes merged less with humanity and towards the unknown abyss of what we do know. Sage most definitely pities Omen. I'm convinced about that. "I wonder what torture their Omen is going through. Is it like ours? Poor soul." Does she know what her Omen is going through though? Hmm maybe she does. Sage and Omen embody life and death, Omen does feel her powers, but does she feel his? I say yes. And here is why: "Their Omen might be a nightmare, but I was never scared of the dark." Omen's whole kit works around fear, he fights by inflicting fear in his enemies. We know that from his many voice lines, his abilities and that one voice line from Phoenix: "Omen wins by fear. Don't let him get to you!" I don't believe an ordinary human is able to withstand Omen's paranoia. Sage however (while being human herself) does not fear him. Why? She knows better than that. She knows more. To quote Omen "They fear death... they should fear so much more than that." Sage might be aware of a huge chunk of what Omen knows... and knowledge keeps her from being afraid. hmmm... does it sound like a bird secondary/bird model thing to be, for lack of a better word, territorial?

not necessarily in the sense of, like, getting defensive and driving people off (although if someone gets into My Territory who makes the space unpleasant for me in some way i’ll be distressed and irritated). more like... establishing a home base, i guess? and slowly expanding my comfort zone from there. people, communities, my living space, there will usually be a few that i come back to when i’m too tired or overwhelmed to keep track of everything else.

when i’m in a discord server that i want to participate in more than in passing, i’ll usually start by camping out in one channel for a while and ignoring all the others. from there, once i’ve gotten to know people who frequent that channel, feel like they’ve gotten to know me, and feel like i’m Established there, i’ll start expanding out into other channels one or two at a time until i’m familiar with the whole server. it deadass took me half a year to branch out from the vent/mature topics channels in my current main server, and then it took months more for me to catch up to the whole server. if i don’t do it this way i’ll be overwhelmed, eventually get bored, and trip off my feeling-left-out-of-a-community sore spots. 

(which is a Thing about using snake secondary to reach out and do new things. sometimes it’s a lot of fun to just go where i feel like and explore! but if a) there’s nothing i can really do without spending money i don’t have, b) i get the side-eye for being Poor and Socially Awkward and Doing Things Weird, c) i don’t happen to be into some anime fandom i don’t care about that everyone else does, and have had zero opportunity to get at least a little invested in it in order to connect with people, d) i get ignored because no one knows me or is invested in the things i contribute; or e) i just plain go past my limits because i didn’t realize going in how much energy i’d be expending on the thing... i get bored, fast. what’s the point? might as well just turn around and go home; at least it’s comfy.)

i’m prone to homesickness. i’ve gotten a little better about it over the years, and after moving so many times in such short succession, but it’s really hard to let go of My Territory the more memories and familiarity i’ve built there. it’s super rough on me emotionally from anywhere to a few days to a couple weeks, and any time i think about it, but otherwise i adjust pretty fast to my new surroundings. 

(the exception here is when i, well... avoid going out and exploring snake-style, because i don’t want to get attached and then deal with the grief of leaving it behind later on. housing instability trauma sucks, and i’m still struggling to figure out how to deal with that.)

part of that might be having stayed in one place for most of my growing up, but it’s like... pretty easy for me to designate a new place as a home base even if i still miss the old one? idk. even when i have nothing left there, i still think of everywhere i’ve intentionally planted my flag as One of My Places.

it often takes me a long time to get comfortable with interacting with someone on a regular, friendly basis the closer the space i get to know them in. a lot of people who are now good friends of mine i had to build up my comfort levels with for years. there’s usually a moment of like... ‘oh okay this is our Friendship Unlocked Moment. the dam is broken,’ and even if we go long periods of time without talking a lot in private i don’t feel anxious and suffocated when we do. sometimes the Friendship Unlocked moment is one thing that happens all at once, and sometimes it’s several things over a long period of time until the scale tips for good. this is one reason i get cagey about initiating those friendship moments too directly sometimes, just because i know i might need to pull back and have space for a while again for the friendship to develop, and i don’t want to hurt people’s feelings.

weirdly enough, though, this process tends to be circumvented a lot the more distance there is between me and another person while i’m getting to know them? if i had gotten into the shc community by joining a server i would be way more shy, anxious, and wary, but when most of my potential-friendship-moments interactions with people take place on tumblr where it’s easier to get some space if i need to, it makes it way less uncomfortable and anxiety-inducing to point and go ‘friend! :D’ i’d probably be fine with exchanging discords with most of the people i’ve met on here at this point. 

it’s like the difference between meeting people and making friends at a hobby group where you meet once a week, and making friends by having to invite them over to your house every day.

i’m very much the kind of person who will stick close with the friend who invited me to a party, lmao, or if i’m tagging along on a trip but don’t want to be there (or don’t want to deal with the hassle of finding them again if i wander off). sometimes i’ll jump right into a new situation and start making friends, but i get anxiety pretty easily about making people feel snubbed or left out if i don’t have the time or energy to engage with everything, so often i’ll just fall back on one or two options i’m most familiar with and let everything else pass me by. i used to be the kind of kid/teenager who’d stick so close behind people on public outings that i’d constantly be bumping into them by accident. (once again, if i didn’t want to be there, wasn’t allowed to go do my own thing, or was--in hindsight--dissociating.)

More concerned with keeping things working than influencing other nations (although there are still jokes about it) 

The most valuable thing they trade in is information

They have a lot of fingers in a lot of pots, but are trusted with their information

BnHA Bonus Diversion: Horikoshi’s Sketches

of all the things I could have spent time writing a post about on my morning off, it ended up being this. but in my defense, Horikoshi’s sketches are actually amazing and this was kind of overdue.

so! as you may know, Horikoshi Kouhei frequently gets bored and doodle-y and is then kind enough to share the resulting drawings with us. sketchy boi. but not sketchy like that. though he did invent Mineta so maybe a little. 

anyway, because he’s so disgustingly talented, these pictures are usually amazing. and there are a lot of them. when I finally got around to doing this post, I ran a search for “Horikoshi sketches” and it turned out there was a whole wiki page dedicated just to them (god bless whoever is running the BnHA wiki, they do such a good job). and, well...

two hundred and eighty-eight. you may recognize this as being nearly fifty more than the current number of chapters. this would mean he’s releasing at least one sketch a week and has been doing so for the past five years! fortunately (for me, who has to do a recap of all these), this number is slightly misleading, as this page apparently includes some of the character sketches he did for the volume omakes. so I don’t have to go through 300 sketches omfg. but still, there are a lot! so I’ll just go through them and post my favorites and see how many we can get through in this post I guess.

every single girl makes chocolate for Todoroki and he just accepts it very politely and obliviously.

they actually make enough chocolate for everyone (except Mineta. and honestly they would have, except they know how that’s gonna go down, and no. Tsuyu really would have made you some pity chocolate dawg, but you brought this on yourself). but don’t end up giving it to everyone. specifically several of them thought better about giving some to Bakugou after seeing him react to the first unlucky person to give him some (y’all know that song I THREW IT ON THE GROUND by the Lonely Island? I’m sure you can understand my meaning here). and also Jirou gets way too flustered about giving some to Kaminari and chickens out. she gives it to Momo instead. hmmMMMM.

Satou also makes chocolate for everyone, EVEN BAKUGOU, and it’s delicious. no one is throwing his chocolate on the ground.

Aoyama makes chocolate for Deku because!!  ☆ ☆ WE ARE FRIENDS, MON AMI  ☆  ☆  ☆ oui oui baguette.

I love everything about this, but especially Ochako’s face. she’s just like. sincerely trying to figure out exactly where she went wrong.

excuse the fuck out of me but DID HORIKOSHI SERIOUSLY HINT AT THE FUCKING A-BAND A WHOLE ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY CHAPTERS BEFORE IT ACTUALLY HAPPENED. omfg. “what a cute AU!” “yes... AU,” Horikoshi agrees, nodding to himself. although after giving it some thought, he made the wise decision to switch Kaminari and Bakugou’s instruments. because we all know Bakugou was born to play the drums.

fucking look at Todoroki fucking Shouto stuffing his face yet again. can you stop chewing for one fucking second. we’re trying to take a picture you slob.

the year is 2018. Horikoshi Kouhei attempts to draw a dog, because it’s the year of the fucking dog. it does not go well. panicked, he takes the All Might he’s already started drawing, and for some reason attempts to turn it into another dog. it goes even worse. now he’s really starting to sweat. “oh shit,” he whispers, drawing Deku upside-down in his unrest. “oh fuck.” finally he just draws Bakugou shouting the words HAPPY NEW YEAR in giant letters across the screen, hoping that’ll be enough to distract everyone from all the rest of it. it is not.

oh my god. thank you so much to everyone who went to SDCC and made him so happy. this is the purest thing I’ve ever seen. also loving Bakugou tolerating the shit out of All Might leaning on him omg. I’m so fucking weak for this as always.

I don’t understand a single element of this. wow. also this is twice now that Horikoshi has drawn the fucking Predator in these sketches. just pointing that out. of all the films to make multiple references to. what’s going on here. and is Mineta playing the fucking little sister in Totoro. am I losing my fucking mind.

this was for the season 3 premiere. I love how Bakugou and Deku are wrestling for control of the screen. but he knows better than to touch Mineta I guess.

Iida and Ochako are the only two reacting appropriately here. Bakugou just looks concerned. to be fair I guess that’s appropriate too. but Deku is all “fuck YEAH All Might you go ahead and SMASH YOUR FACE RIGHT THROUGH THAT MONITOR” and I feel like his blanket approval of all his mentor’s actions has finally gone too far.

this just goes to show you that even a very simple sketch concept can pay off dividends if you play your cards right. good job Horikoshi.

hello this is the cutest thing I’ve ever seen and also is Kirishima doing the kage bunshin pose from Naruto or.

sob Aizawa I’m dead. I fucking love how Mineta is like HE’S CLEARLY FINE IT WAS A FLOP as though Kirishima is not literally covered in fucking grape balls. something else I also love is that Katsuki is number 10 and Deku is number 11. even in a soccer match he can’t stand to be lower then his rival sob. also Ochako is straight up about to rip off Mina’s head jesus christ girl run.

there aren’t even words for how much I ship this. just emotions. omg.

this is one of those pictures that keeps getting more wtf the longer you stare at it. naturally your eyes are drawn to Todoroki’s reindeer antlers first. by contrast, Ochako looks relatively normal, even with the odd pose. but then you notice Deku’s Christmas tree hair. from there your eyes are drawn down to his strange lack of a shirt. and then, finally, you spot him. Tokoyami. you wonder if the mangaka has finally gone too far. you’re still not sure.

for once it’s not Todoroki who’s leaping into action with his mouth full. never one to back down from a challenge, Bakugou has picked the absolute least practical food to consume whilst in the middle of battling. I can barely eat spaghetti without making a mess when I’m not throwing down. I’m not sure what a good food to eat while throwing down would be, but maybe something more portable, like a calzone.

I feel drawn to him the same way one might be drawn to a stray cat, even though you’re pretty sure the cat is really wary of people and will probably try to claw or bite you if you get too close. I would like to pat him on the head, but he might try to blow me up. eh, worth it.

look at the Baku Protection Squad trying to do some fucking Abbey Road thing. damn you can really see how short Tokoyami is in this. also Bakugou buys pants that are at least three sizes too big I s2g.

3. What’s the best thing that happened to you today? I hopped on the mat today in the early hours of the morning, rain on my window and the neighbours cat peeking at me from his window across the street.

4. What fictional place would you like to go to? Wonderland, bacause it’s “curiouser and curiouser!”

Until the street ends, there is no more building and i fall into the abyss of a blank page.  I have had this dream since the age of 8 or 9 years old. Fear of not being good enough, you say?! When alone, I usually take the first step and try to meet people, but only if i really must.  12. What’s an annoying habit you have? It’s really hard for me to ask for help. I also like to tell detailed descriptions of everything... Couldn’t you tell? 13. Do you still talk to your first love? I’ll text him on his birthday and he does the same to me. We met when we were 10 years old and that childhood friendship remains. But regarding my one and truly deep relationship, no we do not talk, unless we randomly meet.

14. How many exes do you have? I have three exes. The first love who was just an idealized crush on my childhood friend: we dated for 2 weeks during summer break xD Then my first real boyfriend, we met in my first year at university, dated for quite some time, he really loved me and made me love myself a little more. Finally the one i loved too much. I mended his wounds and made him love himself as much as I did. I always say all the love we feel makes our hearts grow bigger. I do not regret loving any of them, I am me now due to them and I would not change it if I could. 15. How many songs are in your playlist? I have way too many playlists for each and every mood... But my favourite songs list on spotify has about 1500 songs! uwu!  16. What instruments can you play? Triangles and flute?! I had mandatory music classes in school... so in reality I can’t really play a instrument...

17. Who do you have the most pictures of? Probably my cat, Sushi. With a second close of my doodles and sketches. 

18. Where would you like to go before you die? EVERY WHERE!!! But I really want to go to Japan and Scotland and Iceland and South Korea and New Zealand and i’ll shut up. 19. What’s your zodiac? Capricorn. 20. Do you relate to it? Sort of.

21. What is happiness to you? You know when it’s really cold outside in the winter and you manage to find a sheltered place where no wind can hit you and you still get to feel the warm rays of the winter suns on your skin? You hear the birds outside and you are contempt in that moment, at peace. That is happiness to me.   22. Are you going through anything right now? Yes, I am a bit lost. Trying to finish my thesis and trying to find what I want to do after. It’s liberating but also pretty scary. 23. What’s the worst decision you ever made? It’s a series of small decisions really. It started with going for a phd with the same people i worked in my msc. Should have gone to a different place. Then deciding to come home after a traumatic loss in the family. Should have kept my life going but I stalled it then. (I don’t regret helping my loved ones though).

24. What’s your favourite store? Probably Wishtrend for beauty stuff. Other than that I don’t have any favourite brands/stores. 25. (HALFWAY!) What’s your opinion on abortion? I think everyone is free to decide what they want or need to do. I couldn’t possible judge. If I would it? Probably not.

27. Do you have a favourite album? I don’t think so, I have favourite tunes for different moods and moments in my life. But if threatened with my life, I’d maybe say Total Life Forever from Foals.

28. What do you want for your birthday? It’s such a long time until my birthday comes! But maybe a real EXO ot9 reunion as a goodbye to Minseok?

29. What is most people’s first impression of you? Friendly and easy to open up to, i think.

Well, just like for my birthday, there is still such a long time to it! But let’s say i want to have already finish this part of my life and want to find my next adventure.

44. What class do you get the best grades in? No more exams! Ehehe! But I used to have good grades at everything. Physical Education was my lowest mark i think.

unresolved plot points that were brought back from previous episodes

We had:

-the cluster

-lapis 

-blue and yellow diamond

- pink diamond’s lies/ the pink diamond conspiracy

- pearl’s servant complex and its resolution

- amethyst’s insecurity resolved/ dealt with

- the rupphire relationship, which has broken apart a few times now, and now has its final resolution to stay together 

-bismuth and her issues with Rose Quartz

and it’s going to be bringing back:

- centipeetle 

- possibly lars? i mean he’s trying to get back to earth, but with the diamonds on steven’s side now, maybe they’ll help him get home faster. idk. we’ll see on that one. 

- possibly jasper? who’s also corrupted?

- or possibly every corrupted gem. 

which is huge, because corruption is like.... what the entire series has been trying to resolve. 

That means we’ve resolved most, if not all, of the main unresolved plot points.

obviously, we haven’t answered EVERY question, but we’ve answered the huge, main issues, which are primarily:

- who is pink diamond and how did she “die”  

- who are the other diamonds, and what is homeworld like? what are the other gems that are not crystal gems like?

- how was earth liberated from the diamond threat? 

the entire show has been building up to this. all other small details are interesting, but not technically the main main plot of the show, i wouldn’t say. 

the only one we haven’t resolved, assuming that the diamonds can uncorrupt the other gems (although it IS possible that they won’t be able to uncorrupt them, which might offer interesting problems) is the state of homeworld society.

and white diamond. 

who offers a host of other interesting plots and narratives. 

so the remaining question going forward is now going to be:

- How is Homeworld going to figure out how to reproduce its populations without utterly destroying organic life? 

Right?

I mean, they destroy entire planets to give birth to their new gem soldiers, right.

What’s the solution to that?

Not only is Steven probably going to have to get through to White Diamond, he’s also going to have to offer another solution. 

You can’t let Homeworld run out of resources, or lose its people due to unsustainable consumption, but you also can’t let them commit genocide on a galactic scale. 

And that’s assuming that: 

-Gems can be uncorrupted. 

Because that’s a huge issue too. 

So going forward, those are the real questions that still need to be answered.

I've been slow on my task of reading grammars the past couple of days, and I've found myself reading more into arguments about the languages then reading about the languages (Bench in particular; I think because something about the orthography isn't sticking with me, where Ongota was able to. Idk). There's a lot of arguments about whether or not Omotic even is Afroasiatic. Lumping has been a terrible problem in African linguistics, but at the same time I feel like the skeptics are overly reductive, or at least, looking in the wrong areas. But of course so are the Inclusionists. It's rightly pointed out that a single segment is a terrible way to judge relatedness. But usually when people do that it seems like there's something further they're trying to demonstate. If you look at the word "if" and its rough equivalent in German "wenn" you might not think them related. But if you build a word cloud around the semantics of these logical conjunctions you might get a system like <if, then, and, or, whether, not, neither, when, in the case that> and <wenn, dann, und, oder, ob, nicht, weder, wenn, falls> and thru some more systemic correspondences and work you might establish that "if" is cognate to "ob", "whether" is cognate to "weder", and "wenn" is cognate to "when". But there's an important thing going on in that the word clouds are themselves homologos. It's not just that "oh the 1st person shows signs of an m!" it's more broadly that "the 1st person shows signs of an m, the 2nd a t, the 2nd sg and 2nd pl show signs of looking like one of them got the oblique and direct stems confused, the m shows signs of meeting a y-k kind of form in the nominative, etc" and I guess this is less about having singular, homologous genes and more about whether those genes form homologous regions on the chromosome. Sort of like how the human vitamin c gene (which is broken) is homologous to and broken in basically the same regions as a chimp's, but not so much at all in the (also broken) hamster's. There's also going to be larger scale word associative groups like that that are probably explained by statistics that are beyond me. Although I'm wondering if comparing something like the errors markov chains make might uncover like pathways of semantic drift. I also want to say that single segments don't just randomly turn into others. You're likely to see at the phonemic level a single change in a feature than a change in multiple features, and you're more likely to see a change to an "adjacent" feature (in terms of sonority or in terms of place of articulation, for example). n~d~l~r are collectively common, n~f´~q~w collectively aren't. But the short of it is yes segments are a terrible way to propose cognates but there needs to be something to weigh an associative group of information like that. Also like generally tonogenesis seems to happen when a language loses coda consonants so of course you're not going to see a lot of similarity there. Plus you're not going to see much anyways because time depth is such that mi-tian reflexes in IE are going to look like "e" "st" and "y" "s" or "ch" "d" and "y" "t". It's almost better to expect cognates to look invisible than look similar.

[Ficlet] A Gift for my Darling III (mirror Garak/Bashir/Parmak)

In all honesty I'm not quite sure why this particular story is such a compulsion right now but it is what it is I guess. Sharing on the off chance someone other than me wants to keep going with the story so far. 

Parts 1 and 2 are here and here if you read the summary and warnings and still want on board this ride...

Summary: So in this story we have terran Julian having been given to Parmak as a gift from Garak. This crazy thing details some idk how to quite phrase it… daily life stuff of the three of them including the events occurring in the DS9 eps. Except the daily life stuff is supremely twisted and dark and features at the forefront the continued erosion of Julian's free will

WARNINGS: non consensual body modification, body horror, slave fic, dark, allusions to violence, torture, and rape/non con (I’m putting the non con warning extra here because while Julian’s [unreliable] narration expresses mainly acceptance/joy about his current situation and events it’s important to note that he’s only this way because his mind/self has been altered into it not because he actually is/was able to consent to anything done to him), also kind of OOC that’s explained and it’s mirror universe but still yeah OOC although Mirror Julian is still a prick

So if anyone’s still here for this here goes…

He hears a rumor of two strange arrivals on the station, one a Bajoran woman who looks exactly like The Intendant. The other one, Garak informs him with far too much amusement, is a Terran man who looks like Julian only “even more weak and useless”. The Klingons have taking to calling the other him “Garak’s pet” amongst themselves. It makes Julian bristle angrily. He’s not Garak’s pet he’s Doctor Parmak’s pet and he hopes they punish the insolent sods who have the audacity to make such a disgusting affront. Julian hates Klingons almost as much as he hates Cardassians. They talk down to him far worse than Garak’s men do, at least Garak’s men recognize his station. Some of them even call him Doctor Parmak’s assistant. Sometimes Doctor Parmak chooses not to correct them. 

Julian has been careful to listen for any news of the intruders. Garak has explained they’re from the other world. The other world is something that Julian also hates. If it wasn’t for the Terrans from the other world fucking up The Empire they would be the ones ruling now and it would be Garak kneeling at his feet. But Julian finds himself unsettled by their presence. If there’s another him then Doctor Parmak might decide that he’d like to have two Julians. This one’s even claimed to be a doctor already. His doctor has assured him that he has little interest in such a plain boring Julian, but Julian knows that it’s only The Intendant’s fascination with her own twin keeping that one from his doctor’s clutches.

That leaves him divided on Garak’s plan to kill The Intendant and have her other self take charge. Julian doesn’t particularly care if Garak is in charge of the station. It changes little for him. But if The Intendant is gone and there’s nothing protecting that other Julian then that leaves his doctor with a temptation that Julian would rather he didn’t have. Julian decides then that he’ll be sure to kill him when the time comes. Terran bodies are weak. He doesn’t imagine it will take much. 

Doctor Parmak had showed Julian once how many times that he had died when he was first given to his doctor. “See here’s where your heart had stopped from the trauma of the electrical current. And this one is where your poor little neck had been snapped. I think you may have broken your tibia, poor thing. I’m so pleased we were able to fix you up better than that. Ah and this one here was where your insides had ripped and bled out. Oh my little Julian you used to cry so terribly when we used you. But I made sure that it doesn’t hurt anymore now didn’t I? That’s because you’re such a good kitty.” Doctor Parmak is so kind, Julian is thankful for him. They don’t deserve his doctor on this miserable hot station.

“Are you going to fuck him then?” Julian finds himself asking Garak. He tells himself he doesn’t care what Garak does. Garak is an unimaginative murderous waste of scales and Julian would just as soon push him into one of the smelters and watch him burn. But he asks anyway and feels just a little... something when Garak considers the question far too long. “Didn’t you hear me?” he asks testily. “Do I have to yell it into those dense ridges of yours?” he demands sitting up on his knees. Garak smirks at him.

“And what if I do?” Garak drawls spitefully. “It would be easy, you know. It would seem that in the other world he and my counterpart are already involved. I would say that it would take little effort on my part to have him.” Julian swallows hard. He knows Garak is just taking the piss. He really wants to bite him but Doctor Parmak had put the little metal plates in so Garak could lock his jaw. Doctor Parmak said that it was cruel to leave Julian without his arms so if Garak must do something about his biting he can turn the plates on instead. Julian doesn’t particularly care for the plates but it’s much better than losing his arms. Doctor Parmak showed him that his voice implant can still talk normally without needing to move his mouth. It’s jut an affectation that’s not necessary. Garak says it unnerves him. Julian talks to him a lot with his mouth closed when he wants to make him mad, when he wants to unnerve the Cardies on the station.

Julian scents the air to reassure himself that Garak is only trying to initiate sex and not serious about looking for that Terran. It’s there. Faintly- Garak must be holding himself back just to make him angrier- but it’s there. “If this is the part where I’m supposed to give you a jobby because I give two fucks if you want to bugger some Terran weakling you can fucking suck yourself.” He snatches the PADD back up, glancing at Garak out of the corner of his eye. He tries to be discreet but Garak catches the expression regardless.

“Perhaps I’ll have my Terran weakling do it for me then,” Garak teases from his writing. Garak, Julian has learned from things he leaves out, likes to write absolutely abysmal poetry and short stories.

“Go on then,” Julian grumbles not understanding why his sexual response is so keenly tied to Garak’s as of late. It’s always been just Doctor Parmak.

Julian watches Garak lean back smugly and he slams the PADD down. He may have broken it. It’s all Garak’s fault anyway and Doctor Parmak understands that.  

“Fine, wanker, you fucking win!” he growls standing up flipping his hair as he stalks over to the couch. Garak is beaming up at him. “Jealous, kitty?” Garak asks using the name like Doctor Parmak does. Julian can feel his eyes steel over furiously. He’s standing over Garak thinking how easy it would be to rip his throat out, teeth or no teeth. His tail swishes angrily. He still... remembers how to fight, how to attack, how to... hurt them... Garak looks up at him and calmly sets down what he was writing.

Julian lunges at him, the force and weight sending the couch backwards with both of them on it. He lands on top of Garak, seeing just a hint of fear there, blended with that arousal as he tastes the air between them both. Julian is breathing hard with excitement. He leans in, smiling for Garak prettily. He shifts, straddling him, feeling Garak’s thick body between his thighs. He hopes Garak’s uniform fucking reeks of him the next day. “Yes,” Julian says with a purr. He isn’t sure why he was trying to hurt Garak now. This feels so much better. Julian laps at his mouth just like a little kitten and feels a rush of pleasure so strong that it nearly shorts out the servos in his arms. “Yes,” he whispers again giving a long swipe of his tongue to the side of Garak’s face. 

Doctor Parmak said that he would make it nice for him if he was nice for Garak. He feels that swim in his head again and nearly drowns drunk on it. He feels Garak shiver beneath him, head going back just a bit, showing Julian his throat. It would be so easy. One bite, one good hard bite. Julian blinks. He wants to keep feeling good like this. His body agrees. Julian laps at his throat, softly, lightly, shutting his eyes deliriously. His hands move from Garak’s shoulders, pawing at the armor on his chest. He still has trouble with fine motor skills. Garak gives his ear a scratch, then tugs at it roughly. Julian purrs again. “That’s a good kitty.”

Julian still hasn’t quite formulated a plan for his escape, but they’re out of the conduit. That’s step one. They’re into the hall and Smiley is going to take him to the runabouts and they’re going to figure it out from there. He doesn’t have time to try and sort the particulars, his mind already working fast as it can to analyze probabilities, odds, but he just doesn’t have enough data. All Julian knows is that he and Kira have to escape this insanity. They have to get out of there. They have to get back. They don’t belong here in this world and every minute that Julian spends here he thinks he’ll go mad. He nearly turns the corner, the alarms blaring but Smiley holds up a hand.

“Wait.” Julian listens, hearing the footsteps, not sure how he’d missed it before with his hearing but it’s there. They aren’t the hasty heavy steps of his Klingon pursuers though, they’re... different. There’s only one of them and it’s not something he recognizes. Julian takes a cautious step back but freezes cold when he hears something that sounds like his own voice calling out to him.

“Oi! You Terran pieces of shite aren’t fooling anyone! I can already smell you both!” Of course he knew intellectually that there should be another him. Julian had just assumed... without his enhancements... a slow boy in a world like this. When he hadn’t seen himself he just assumed the worst.

“Julian?” Miles whispers fearfully next to him. “Whatever that is I swear you don’t want to see it.” Julian doesn’t understand what’s gotten into him all of a sudden. The footsteps draw closer and Julian realizes that the voice he heard was like his but it wasn’t. It was... artificial. “Julian, please, we have to go now. You said it yerself, we can’t stay here...” Miles pulls at him and he almost turns, his self preservation nearly outweighing his curiosity but then he sees it. And then he realizes that no, death wasn’t the worst possible scenario.

“Oh my god.” Those are the first words that leave his mouth as the creature steps around the corner. Creature is the first word that comes to mind. Like Frankenstein’s creature stitched together from so many imperfect parts. Julians hand comes up to his mouth shaking as he stares at it; the monster wearing his face and nearly falls to his knees. It’s... it’s him or rather it’s... something that may have once been him. Julian doesn’t know what catches his eyes first. It stalks around the corner coming closer to them, the most prominent feature are the black metal arms whirring softly as he walks. They’re... they’re soldered or something or God Julian doesn’t know how they’re attached but he can see the scar tissue heavy on his torso at both shoulder, at his chest which... which has a massive incision scar running down the center. There are stitched together skin pieces everywhere or at least what resemble various patchwork making a body. Julian can actually tell which ones were once his.

The creature is only wearing a pair of shorts, a pair of boots wrapped over the knee and Julian can see the collar around his... No... not it’s not a collar. It’s his throat. It’s his neck with a piece of metal welded? around it, the light at the center blinking and that’s when Julian realizes it... it has metal plates at the jaw that seem to be holding it shut- at least right now. It has his face. It has his face and it’s looking at him disdainfully as those arms cross.

“You get a good look, Terran?” he hears it ask, fears confirmed when he hears the voice but doesn’t see the mouth moving. His mouth his turned down in what seems a perpetual scowl but even that doesn’t all quite prepare him for the ears. They’re... they’re gray cat ears sticking out from his wild brown hair grown long to his shoulders. Julian sees a tail as well swishing and he knows his hand is trembling over his mouth as he tries to understand what it is he’s seeing.

“My god I... you’re... you’re me but what-” “I’m not you, Terran. Don’t let the talk go to your fucking head, you and are aren’t the same.” “What happened to you?!” Julian asks dropping his hand still trying to understand what he’s seeing. The slaves he worked next to... none of them looked like this. He hadn’t seen anything like this creature and he doesn’t understand. He can see his vision clouding over and blinks back the water in his eyes. “Doctor Parmak,” he hears Smiley practically spit beside him. “Jesus, Julian, I thought you were dead!” Julian turns, but Smiley isn’t talking to him. He’s talking to the creature in front of them. Julian hears a snort.

“You and them wish I was dead, Terran? You were all eager enough to let these lizard fuckers have a go at me but no, I’m not fucking dead.” It sounds angry and Julian doesn’t understand what’s going on. Dead? Was he captured? Why wasn’t he working with the rest. Julian had seen men killed but not-

“What the hell did that monster do to you, Julian?” Smiley asks, and Julian can hear his voice starting to tighten. Julian can’t imagine. It looks like it hurts. All of it looks like it hurt. He doesn’t know how those arms don’t rip off his torso. He doesn’t know how those scars don’t hurt, how his throat, how his jaw aren’t in agony. He can’t open his mouth, god he can’t... they took his arms. They... How... how could someone...

“Don’t you dare talk about Doctor Parmak, Smiley. Say what you want about the rest of these scaly bastards but you keep my doctor’s name off your tongue. He fixed me. The mines fuck up your bloody eyesight? Christ you buggers stink.” Julian sees its nose wrinkle and he sees the lights moving when it speaks. He couldn’t imagine... how many surgeries... how many months of recovery, what they would’ve had to do to him to- Those are fangs... or a cat’s teeth, he’s sure he sees a fang there and how... how does it not hurt? How does this Julian not know...

“Your doctor? Julian you... you told me...” He can hear Smiley’s voice start to break. “You told me you killed your old man cause he wanted to change you... you... you told me you were terrified of him... you couldn’t sleep without a knife cause you were afraid he’s let ‘em take ya and...”

“Don’t talk about my old man, Smiley.” It uncrosses its arms and walks over to them both, tail flicking back and forth. Julian doesn’t want to look at it closer. It hurts. It hurts him because it doesn’t...He... Julian, what the hell is wrong with you, he’s you! He’s you, he’s not a thing he’s a human being! He’s a human being some Doctor Parmak tortured and twisted and... and how could a man call himself a doctor and do that to a man? To another living creature? It... He... Julian looks at him coldly. “Garak tried to take the piss saying he was gonna have a go at you. Fuck me, mate, he’d break you so easily.” The mirror Julian laughs and Julian croaks out a sickened “Garak” in response. He thinks he’s going to vomit.

It’s almost a blessing when the Klingons find them.

BNHA Debate AU

So It’s BNHA But instead of being superheroes, the students are all apart of a national debating competition, and professional heroes would be politicians. Hear me out, I think the powers could translate well into different styles of rhetoric. Midoriya would appeal to people’s emotions, using Descriptions to make people feel more intimate with the subject he was addressing. Bakugou would try to overwhelm his opponents with his statements and use pure, explosive passion to gain the support of the judges. Iida would have the ability to quickly grasp unfamiliar topics and rely on cold, hard logic to support his case. Ururaka tends to win by using humor to lighten the mood and to gain favor. Aoyama would try to idealize all of his arguments as much as possible, but these crystal casings often fall apart when inspected more closely. Ashido goes in for the long run, slowly picking away at her opponent’s case until it completely dissolves, but this is difficult for her to do on a tight schedule. Asui prefers to tell it how it is: she is very honest in her cases, and she finds it extremely difficult to debate on the side of a case that is clearly wrong. Ojiro’s style is one that seems simple on the outside, but once reflected on afterwards, leaves a lasting impression; it is more useful in the long term instead of short tournaments. Kaminari usually opens with energy that gets your blood racing, but he is unlikely to actually know much about the topic discussed, and his arguments quickly fall apart when put under pressure. Kirishima focuses entirely on defense of his arguments, preparing for a long time before a competition, but he finds it difficult to tear down other’s cases. Koda approaches with a humility and softness that help people pity his case (idk). Sato tends to approach his arguments in bursts, and needs a long period to collect his thoughts before he says anything. Shoji is one of the most flexible debaters in the class, and often draws ideas from places no one else considered. Jiro is a difficult opponent to face because of her vast inside knowledge: she knows most of what there is to know about almost anything. Sero can easily recover and put together a broken argument, although he tends to jump from idea to idea in unrecognizable trains of thought. Tokoyami tends to discuss dark and almost disturbing topics, and he knows his way around them very well; morality is his specialty, but in more light hearted debate, he hasn’t a clue. Todoroki is most skilled in switching from affirmative to negative on a dime with complete fluidity; he sees both sides of an argument with ease. Hagakure often waits until the end of a debate to make a full scale attack on her opponent. You never see her coming. Mineta sucks. Yayorozu can create new arguments on the spot when a previous train of thought fails to lead to anything. All Might is very patriotic and appeals to higher ideas and goals. Aizawa-sensei has a cold intimidating glare and carries himself in a way that often causes his opponents to be unable to collect their thoughts.

So, I always saw fics where an American girl goes back in time to Kyoto, Japan and meets the Shinsengumi. I wanted to create a fic where the Shinsengumi goes forward in time to San Francisco, America. I thought it would be boring to just make it about them meeting normal people and how they adapt with these normal people; so I decided that they would end up in this large house/apartment complex type of thing that mirrors the many Shinsengumi headquarters. This place would work for their government to help defeat bad guys in return for government protection if that makes sense. These people would have either special abilities and or be nonhuman. This way, it's more plausible to include oni, rasetsu, and western oni and other creatures.

Ability: That's tricky. Fairy powers are all the same, (telepathy, healing, and creating protective bubbles or shields. In their "natural form, they can kind of fly for short periods of time.) It just depends on how good you are at controlling your stamina and how creative you can be. For example, Olive is bad at controlling her usage of stamina and she doesn't fight often, so her powers are only short lived fightingwise. That being said, she is better at healing herself+ others as well as doing household chores. Whereas her brothers are better at fighting.

Skill: Painting/drawing and cooking. She is also remarkably good at healing herself/others.

Hobby: painting/drawing, cooking, taking care of plants, and playing/mothering her siblings.

Like: plants, FOOD, CHILDREN, animals, reading, physical sports, little niches where she can nap/be alone.

Dislikes: the dark, "gross food", being teased, too much confrotation, being in positions where she cannot protect her family or where people are going out of the way to protect her

Fears: Olive is scared of a lot of things..THE DARK, needles, BLOOD, scary movies, loud noises, and she is very scared of sexual encounters (basically, she's scared of having sex)

Goals: To be less dependant on her loved ones. (Here's where it gets ironic) To mother several children and protect a big happy family.

Personality: Upon first meeting her, she is very shy around the Shinsemgumi (including Chizuru) and she barely utters a word to them. When attention is pointed towards her, she will draw behind her older siblings/housemates. This is not Olive's typical behavior with her housemates but she is extremely cautious around strangers due to some messed up stuff that happened in her childhood. Her housemates will always see her true nature, which is a lot more outgoing and silly, but she does not show this side to the Shinsengumi members for months.

Once again, because of her past, Olive is extremely anxious and almost has separation anxiety to the point where if somebody really close leaves the house and stays out too late, she will have a panic attack. She is almost always doubting herself and it has greatly affected her interactions with people. Because of this, everybody in the house almost instinctively try to keep her in the least stressful mindset....their intentions are good but they don't always succeed because she hides it and let's it eat at her. She doesn't like people worrying about her and would much rather put on a brace face and suffer in silence.

They will find that while Olive is somebody who is incredibly anxious, she's a very loving person. It's in her nature to want to nurture and love things so she literally mothers everybody. She adores children and wants to have several one day but she's very innocent and is very skittish about actually MAKING a child one day.

( (͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)) She is unsure that she will get married and have children because she is worried that nobody will fall in love with her.

Olive has a bad habit of putting others before her. So much so that it's to the point of self sacrifice. She's absolutely terrified of anything and everything (blood, bugs,the dark, snow storms, thunderstorms, scary movies, her own shadow ect.) but she has no fear in giving her life away for someone she cares about. In that way, she's brave. However, it's a lot of reckless bravery on her part..One other thing that Olive is not afraid of is dollar coasters....she loves those.

Because her race requires a lot of food to maintain their health, Olive is constantly eating. She has stashes of food literally everywhere and she could almost easily out eat some of the men. The only foods she dislikes are pickles and, ironically, olives. She gets territorial with her brothers because they often steal her food but is willing to share it with others. (Mostly Heisuke and Chizuru.)

Because she's stubborn as a bull and she grew up with three older brothers that used to torment her, Olive has a feisty side and if you catch her in that kind of mood, it won't be pretty. I'm not saying she gets seriously violent but she gets a little attitude and won't mind telling you off. This typically happens with her older brothers though.

As a child, she was very rough and behaved almost like a boy. This caused her to be hurt quite often and is why she has scars all over and it might be why she doesn't cry when she's in pain (This could also be her pride.)

Olive is terrified of death and killing/hurting people but she will do it if she has to. It'd would tear her up and she'd be emotionally broken for a long time, but she'd do it only for protecting and self defense.

Olive LOVES children. It's mostly because it's in a female fairies biology to nurture children, especially since her kind is nearly extinct. She gets very wistful around babies and they are the only thing she can focus on if they are in the room. Male fairies have an affinity to children as well because that is how their bodies are wired. Female fairies have a lot of hormones that make them constantly fertile and their bodies reject female contraception. This was developed only 100 years before the story starts specifically because their bodies realized they were dying out and they adapted. That is why Olive has SO MANY siblings.(I didn't want to talk too much about the background of fairies but I think this would make more sense.)

Appearence: Olive is TINY, and by tiny, I mean SHE'S BARELY 4'8". She has the body of a women (She's very curvy...just on a smaller scale??if that makes sense..) but people often mistake her to be younger at first glance. Her hair reaches just above her shoulders and her eyes are very bright and expressive. She has a lot of freckles and will even get more during the summer when she's out and about. Olive blushes quite a lot in some places the don't make sense (her whole face, ears, fingertips, feet, knees, and collarbone/breast area) Although you wouldn't expect it, she has several little scars and Knicks on her body from being so clumsy and rough as a child. That is where the one on her temple originated.

Fashion: Olive exclusively wore her traditional clothes from her tribe, which were beaded and died and woven, (ect), she opts for much more brighter and cuter clothes. She is very mobile so she likes to swear shorter skirts and things that are comfier.

SHORT backstory on childhood: The fairy people have been hunted and killed by scared humans for centuries and that is the reason they are almost extinct. Olive feels an immense guilt because she unknowingly invited some bad humans into her tribe and they slaughter everyone but the chiefs children (She and her sibings), whom the tribe hid away and protected. However, this happened after they witnessed their parents and neighbors being murdered. This is the route of Olive's anxiety and her hatred of being protected. As far as she is concerned, she should have been the one who died.

Olive and her siblings were adopted by Charlie and Rosa-people who run one of the the houses of mutant/supernatural people that are protected by the government.

Olive was completely mute in a two year psychosis before she spoke to them and another two years to trust them. At first, she wasn't even speaking, she was writing down things in letters to people or in a notebook. Although her past still haunts her(she still can't talk about it even after so long and she won't let herself heal because she feels that she deserves it.) , she is fairly happy now. However, whenever something traumatic happens, she will stop talking for days and it worries her family that she has returned to being mute.
