What are your thoughts on how the Duffer’s have handled the writing for Will Byers?
I mean, Will wasn’t really in season one much but the character’s reactions to his disappearance really made his character feel present and made you care about him/ want him to be okay. Then there’s season two and you get arguably the most interesting season for Will as you see more of who he is and his relationships with the other characters while he’s slowly getting possessed.
And then in season three and four Will just stands in the background and touches his neck. All he’s been given story wise was one scene quietly crying over Mike in a van with an indirect love confession. Don’t get me wrong, I thought the scene was good but it seems like Will’s character development has been rather stagnant over the last two seasons outside of his crush on Mike which has honestly been foreshadowed since like, season one.
It’s weird, I liked Will quite a bit during the first two seasons but ever since he’s been sort of irrelevant to the story and rather 2-dimensional. Honestly he was so much more interesting in season one and two, it’s sort of disappointing.
I agree with you on many of these points.
However, I think the point of Will becoming more removed from the supernatural plot as we dig more into the lab is to show that Will is a symptom of an already-present problem. He's not the start of the pattern, he's the end of it—and I think this is a very good move. It's a good (and common!) non-linear storytelling pattern. Start with the end, move backwards until we find the source, and then return to the end with the new knowledge in-hand.
However...I wouldn't call Will underdeveloped or two-dimensional. I think the majority of his two-dimensonal-ness, as it were, is fandom based. He's flattened out to "sad gay sweetheart artist" because no one seems to be able to consider his flawed moments and what they say about him as a character in any real or genuine way. I think he's very nuanced. He harbors this resentment towards the girl who's saved him thrice over, and he's not proud of it, but he does indulge it. He's a good person, but he's still has his teenage asshole moments.
He's traumatized. He's terrified of the supernatural, he's terrified of bullies, and he relies on El and the others to protect him from both sources of fear. He's not brave or gutsy, and he relies on the others to be that kind of person for him. This gets those people into dangerous, painful situations. It's something Will is going to have to grow beyond, or at least compensate for...and it seems to be a slow, painful learning curve.
He's a gentle person, overall, but we also see some violent rigidity in him about how to handle the supernatural: Kill it. We have to kill it. That rigidity may come to bite him in the ass come ST5, particularly in points where he may need to be more flexible about handing the supernatural (specifically in regards to doing whatever it takes to get Max back).
I don't think his dimension as a character has to come from his immediate relationship to the supernatural plot. I think most of it comes from his relationships and how he moves through the world/behaves towards others—quite a bit of that is driven by the supernatural, and quite a bit of it is simply setting the stage for his behavior come ST5.
My advice for finding joy and excitement in Will's character is this: find a way to be interested in him outside his relationship to the supernatural, and then consider how those things that interest you will apply to and affect the supernatural plot.
The supernatural plot is my baby girl for the show as a whole, but it's not immediately applicable for every character. Some of characters (like Karen, or Bob, or, or, or...) come from their relationships to others, rather than how flashy their plot is in regards to monsters and alternate dimensions. Sometimes (most often!) those relationships and interactions influence how the flashy characters interact with the supernatural...or even make them into flashy characters. Characters put in a lot of leg-work "behind the scenes", so to speak, to lead up to whatever "interesting" action they have coming to them. Otherwise it simply comes out of nowhere, and the Duffers themselves have expressed their dislike of "out of nowhere" twists!

so wait... let me get this straight. could arthur see into the alternate dimensons??? like he can see alternate versions of them? because he saw, i'm pretty sure, the ials universe and tlnd universe and also other max's lbaf universe?
That's correct!
Remember when Other Max was telling David that other dimensions exist and everything is connected?
Arthur's never done that before (As he recalled) but just like Lance's demon powers can get out of control when his emotions are triggered, Arthur's visions can also get extreme when he is emotional.

- Relationships -
Elenore Connor - Adoptive Mother: Stella loves her mother and would do anything for her. She doesn't go to school or have any friends to hang out with, with the exception of her Rottweiler: William. Stella tends underground cage matches to win cash to pay for her mother's medical needs and rent. Elenore doesn't like that Stella wastes her young caring for her inside of hiring an aid but Stella is stubborn and won't trust anymore around her mother.
Diana Prince/Wonder Woman - Biological Mother: Stella is not fond of Wonder Woman or the Justice League, regardless of her blood relation to the Heiress of Themyscira. Diana tries to get into Stella's circle as her mother but Stella makes it clear that regardless of her blood link to the amazons, she will not consider Diana her mother. Diana tries to make her see she is more than human and she can offer Stella more than her mortal mother but Stella says that her 'Mortal Mother' is the only mother she needs.
Clark Kent/Superman - Biological Father: Just like Diana, Stella doesn't like Clark; more because he tries to force his way into her life, seeing her in need of fatherly guidance. Stella explained she has no need for a father because she never needed one when she was growing up and just because he found out he had a daughter, doesn't mean she needs or wants him. Clark doesn't listen and keeps trying to affect her life.
William - Pet Rottweiler: Stella found William at puppyhood when someone abandoned him during a storm. She refused to leave him and raised him off the bottle, all the way to adulthood. Just like Stella, William is protective of Elenore and is always by her side when Stella is not in the house and will bring her anything she asks for; like the good boy he is.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------ IN ALTERNATE DIMENSONS ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
INJUSTICE - THE GAMES/COMICS/MOVIE
Before everything went down, Stella was on good terms with Superman and Wonder Woman; even congratulating Clark on becoming a father, but she wasn't interested in playing the role of Big Sister. When she got news of Joker abducting Lois and Superman accidentally killing her and their child, she was there while Bruce interrogated the Joker; thus, she was there when her father punch his fist right through his chest. She stayed clear of Clark, and when she learned that Diana was encouraging this murderous behavior, she cut contact with her too; she may have been their blood, but she was not their daughter. Stella would side with Batman, not just because of Superman's Madness but mainly because Wonder Woman killed her mother right in front of her to make her yield and accept the fact Wonder Woman is her one and only mother; all that did was fuel the hatred Stella has for Superman and Wonder Woman. Diana and Clark would come up with a way to control Stella by using a crown with a dangerous centerpiece: Star-Shaped Red Kryptonite. Diana placed the crown on Stella turning the fight and it weakened her control to Diana or Clark's commands - making her the perfect daughter/soldier/servant; Kara was able to rip the crown from her head but it left a star-shaped scar that she tries to hide with her bangs or headband.
JUSTICE LEAGUE: THE FLASHPOINT PARADOX
In this realm, Stella is still the daughter of Superman and Wonder Woman but neither of them is aware of her existence. She meets Queen Diana when the Amazon Queen was about to kill Steve Trevor - using the Runed Sword, she was able to counteract the Lasso of Truth, making it release him. Stella ran while Diana and the Amazons gave chase, letting Steve get away. Her battle with Diana and the Amazons left her overwhelmed and Diana was able to use the Lasso of Truth on Stella, allowing Diana to learn she was a mother. Diana was mixed on the situation - she had a powerful heir to the throne but she was not conceived, rather born from the mind of a madwoman. Regardless, Diana intended to keep Stella but the timeline was fixed and the perfect heir slipped through her fingers.

Sort of basic height thingy for some of my guys. Adriel and Beth are unchanging when it comes to height cuz their both solid meat/bone but on the other hand Addon and Wretch are both Reapers so they move more gost like and can sort of stretch themselves out and squash themselves down, basicly it's in character for their heights to be inconsistent. Aril on the other hand is still a house and still house shaped but I have some vauge ideas knocking around in my head for Aril to make a verry vaugely humanoid body when "talking" to Adriel in some moments. Sort of just a large fleshy mummy shape, maybe something vaugely arm like appendages. Its verry siphonophore/jellyfish inspired the way I see it in my head.
I need to do more explaining and building on weird Haven structures stuff but yea. I think groups of tendrils or whatever would sprout out of or through the walls/floors/ceilings and wind together to build up a body shape and then Arils ""body"" would be stuck into place. If they wanted to move they wouldn't be able to go far but they could probably stretch around a good length. The thing about the body is it's not a common thing for Havens to do but with Aril being Adriels only freind for a long while it's pretty much a misguided attempt at making Adriel more comfortable in the new/super weird environment. I've mentioned it before but Aril is directly attached to haven who's a god and sort of a eldritch? Creature? Its not able to communicate with mortals or anyone from earth it's an alternate dimenson that's fully alive so Aril is capable of understanding Adriel but cant speak in a way that Adriel can understand.

least favourite hp character: snape, mostly. also honestly dumbledore. just never found either of their stories compelling. also both objectively awful people.
favourite character trope: i’m always a big fan of “seemingly two-dimensonal character has Hidden Depths” because love me a good switcheroo, the Mom Friend (alternatively, the actual Matriarch who isn’t very motherly), also the weirdo who is charming purely because of how Strange and Unusual they are.
favourite character dynamic: Angst Angst Angst!!!!!, who isn’t a sucker for a found family, fractured families, messy group dynamics that give us teen soap drama realness, betRAYL, do you see where i’m going with all this?
what vine best defines you: always and forever this one

Yo can I get some drop dead fred headcanons? Thanks in advance!
Golly, that’s unexpected- but I’m always down to talk about my boy Fred.
Alot of my headcanons hinge on the deleted scenes. There’s all this extra stuff that, rightfully, would have dragged the movie down but in hindsight really would have helped us understand the characters better- the subplot with Lizzie’s Dad, Mickey’s divorce and meeting Natalie earlier in the film, the whole aspect of Lizzie’s creativity and writing a book about Fred at the end, some of Lizzie’s more...erratic pre-Fred return behaviour and of course. The Imaginary Friend world. (The Alternate ending is a big old let down though, and the released ending is much more satisfying...also no-one wants Fred dead. That’s a massive downer).
With that in mind.
Fred and the other Imaginary Friends are interdimensonal beings.
This doesn’t even have to include the deleted scenes where we see where they all hang out, and all the doors where they come and go. But just the scene that remained in the movie with the other imaginary friends. The movie would have been so fucking bleak without that scene.
But the idea that all IFs live in this pocket dimenson, where they can travel to kids all over the world and help them when they need it most? I like that idea a lot. It also explains why Fred is passed to Natalie at the end instead of her just creating a new friend of her own creation. Because there are a pre-determined amount of IFs who just get passed from child to child.
Lizzie’s Dad tried to remain in contact with his daugher but Lizzie’s Mom retained custody and never told Lizzie the truth.
If we say that the movie takes place in 1991, the year it was released, and Lizzie is 28 (how old Phoebe Cates was in the movie and her canonical age), then Lizzie was born in 1963. Lizzie was 5 when her Dad walked out (1968). If we take that and cultural norms of the time, I think it’s safe to say that courts would have ruled in Lizzie’s Mom’s favour and considering how manipulative and cruel the Mega Bitch is, I think it’s fair to say that she could have made up any number of stories to convince people that she was the victim- and made it impossible for Dad to come back for his daughter...no matter how much he clearly cared about her. There is a deleted scene where she faces her memory of her father and decides it’s best not to put him on a pedestal and move on...
Fred isn’t innocent.
This one is a little more... fanciful. If we go back to my first headcanon I think IFs have been around a very long time. And, more than that, they’ve probably seen a lot in the various households they’ve resided in. Fred spends a lot of time looking up ladies skirts, talking about the pidgeons and he was present during Lizzie and Charles’ reunion...thus. I think Fred knows about the birds and the bees. And I don’t think he’s as disgusted by it as he makes out...but also.
Come on.
It’s Rik Mayall. All his characters are massive perverts. (With the exception of MAYBE Neil from Dancing Queen).

wait so how would steve even get to an alternate timeline? like how does he get to the timeline the stone removal caused?
also isn’t that timeline fucking cursed? like without the stone, it’s plunged into chaos
which means he wouldn’t even have a happy ending there
like
the alternate timeline theory is even fucking dumber than the he’s in the past in the main timeline theory
both of them are so fucking stupid but one involves time travel AND dimension jumping AND then that dimenson is LITERALLY the worst timeline because it lacks infintinity stones
only that doesn’t fucking make sense because the main timeline in the present has ZERO infinity stones because thanos destroyed them and the “forces of darkness” the ancient one talked about didn’t come
so i dont’ even understand the “AHHH WE HAVE TO RETURN THE STONES OR ELSE” nonsense
this time travel nonsense was made up to personally attack me and give me migraines

For the Autumn Coldflash week @coldflashweeks
Day One - Alternate Earth
Barry Allen is the fastest human being, the Accelerated Man on Earth19, in a world there is always raining and there is even no coffee. People of this Earth must not visit other worlds - every dimenson traveller gets a life sentence. If they get caught. Barry doesn’t feel well about his job - helping to catch these poor “criminals”-, but doesn’t know how to change his way of life.
Leonard Snart is a dangerous metahuman - or at least the government considers him being one. He can travel across all the dimensions and collects even books and other things from all these strange, foreign universes. What could he do with this kind of power? Helping criminals (or unlucky innocents) to escape to other worlds.
Once, a foggy, wet day, he meets a cute boy wearing a red hoodie, and maybe Len just begins to think about settle down with him... But he would have never imagined that this boy being his “arch-enemy”...

Main plotline is that Tails has been experimenting with multi-dimensonal travel and has been working on a machine that could hypothetically speaking, could send them into an alternate reality. Sonic, being used as a plot device accidentally sets the machine off, causing them to go into the undertale multiverse. As soon as the heroes arrive, they are backed into a corner by Ink and are forced to explain themselves. Ink is immediately confused. After explaning that magic and monsters do not exist in sonics reality on the same scale as they do in this one, Silver is the only one to notice that Ink's emotions are not genuine and seems to become more wary of the others actions. (Silver has trust issues because of Mephiles the dark and can also somewhat sense emotions on the mental level) They proceed to carry on with unease to meet the other members of the star sanses.
The most cursed Undertale au idea I've ever come up with: Underverse but the sonic characters are there.
Both Silver and Shadow are tormented by nightmare about the people they lost (Blaze The Cat and Maria Robotnik) leading to their eventual encounter with the Star sanses.
The Star Sanses seeing the similarities between the two teams, eventually leads to the two teaming up (not w/o some angst of course 🥲)
The bad sanses also team up with Infinite, Chaos, and Mephiles due to their overwhelming desire to cause destruction and misery.

FOP/BiaB crossover
yeah i’m gonna do my commentary review for this. keep in mind, i’ve seen exactly 1 Bunsen episode prior to this, so i’ll be focusing more on the FOP elements
huh see a lot of the FOP team writing this...
so Bunsen has known Cosmo for only 6 month? so...when Timmy got Chloe...?
question: HOW is Bunsen knowing Cosmo is a godparent AND telling EVERYONE that, not against Da Rules? i suppose Bunsen knowing could be a skirt around, since he’s a beast, thus a supernatural creature, but telling Mikey...that should break Da Rules...UNLESS this ISN’T the same universe
Bunsen singing the FOP theme is cute
i liked the alternate portals. and yes confirmed as “inter-dimensional”, so they do not share a universe
yes Bunsen counts as a supernatural creature
pointless Crocker not even on his own show??? (ok not pointless, he is plot related but it still felt it)
Tim you’ve met “beasts” geeze...
HA! thank you Tim for citing Da Rules!! and yes totally legit to allow him to wish then...and Mikey is a year older than Tim? cool...how old is Mikey again?
lol the annoying villains having a measuring contest would be funnier if Crocker wasn’t at least 3 times her age
lol hotdog head
hey more house interior
why would you let him wish for lazer eyes Tim, you know how badly that can go
and now villain teamup!
Crocker has a toupee? since when???
and for the second half we go back to Busen’s world! that works...though a bit surprised the fairies’ magic still works here...nice to make note of the limited magical battery though
“i’m pretty sure this is a dream now” lol oh Dad, that’s probably the best line of yours here
the Crockerpot has a bag? and why does it suck up non-magical things??
wow Amanda is a much better villain than Crocker...still easy to foil, but still, she’s much more ruthless and capable
“we were having so much fun i didn’t even know we were in danger” lol that’s great line too
angry toilet? um...kay i’ll let that slide...
but huh, that was a pretty cute crossover. i wish Chloe had been there BUT since Kari is also Amanda, i guess that’s why they omitted her. i strike my pointless Crocker, and replace it with pointless Dad since he did not add anything to the storyline at all. but it was a cute episode. as i said when i watched Bunsen last time, it’s a cute show; still not anything i’m going to go out of my way to watch, but i will happily watch it again.
to those who will ask if Bunsen will appear in Superverse now; meh...multiverse theory says yes, and Abominable is a fae beast, so there’s potential for a direct connection there; plus there are a few established inter-dimensonal demons/entities, so again that’s also an option. but until BiaB has something more super hero/comic book like in it’s canon, i’m gonna say no.

Time Lords: The Web of Time
The Web of Time, within the Space-Time Vortex, was constructed by Rassilon and the Other. The Space-Time Vortex is an atom sized dimension which contains the Web of Time. It when mapped into three dimensions is can look like any of the opening sequences of Doctor Who. The Vortex became a dimension of pure thought with a complexity that borders on sentience (infact the Faction Paradox believe that it is sentient and refer to it the Loa). The axis of the Web of Time is a vast transdimensional Time Spiral that encompasses the universe and serves as a foundation for all points in space and time. Its creation made it much easier for the Time Lords (and any other speices) to travel in time but it also made it much harder for anyone to change history. The Vortex enables Time Travel Capsules to move from Minkowski space and integrate into the fifth dimension. The Observer Theory states that for the changing of history to make any sense their must be an outside observer who watch all of history and sees this change. The Eye of Harmony is that observer. The Eye of Harmony created a Universe of Positive Time by locking down the Web of Time within the Space-Time Vortex. It serves as an anchor for the Continuity and causality of the Universe and probably sits at the exact center of the Vortex. This nexus can be accessed with the Spiral Chamber. While the Time Lords’ control of the Weak Nuclear Force (and through it Gravity and Time) extends only to the limits of this cluster of Galaxies, the Noosphere (the range of understanding and data that is defined by a culture’s physical, perceptive or comprehensive capabilities) of Time Lord activity is much larger. This Noosphere is known as the Spiral Politic and reaches from around 3500 years after Event 0 (the Big Bang) to the time of the story Frontios (10,000,000 AD) and covers most of Space all the way out to the asteroid hindmost. This forms a temporal barrier to legal Timeship travel. In practice most Gallifreyan Capsules are unable to make it to the edge of knows space without being specially engineered. A similar limit exists on traveling forward in time. But this is further complicated when a timeship reaches the point where the universe ceases to expand and begins to collapse. This is because time works differently after this point. It should be noted that there are areas within the Spiral Politic that the Time Lords can’t observe or penetrate. It is possible that some other power with their own Eye sits in distant future beyond the Time Lord Noosphere. In order to be connected to all points in space and time the Transduction Barriers shifts the planet outside of the space-time continuum and into its own Microuniverse of Inner Time. Despite being in Inner Time, Gallifrey is still liked via a real-time analogue to its former location in the Web of Time. Rassilon and Jelen create the Transduction Barriers and installed the machinery that conrols them on level 30, right below the Panoptican. They use delta circutry and probably quasitronics. The Barriers are a 10 dimensonal defense field that prevent atomic sized infiltrations, teleporters, and illicit frequencies, but they can’t stop spaceships from landing. They also allow their primary star’s sunlight and gravity to reach them but give the sky a pearly orange color. They block all weapons fire or kamikaze runs. Because of this barrier when one is on Gallifrey one is “outside” of the Universe. Once lowered into place a TARDIS can not breach the Transduction Barriers. The Lord President’s Rassilon Imprimatur and Presidential Code allow him and his TARDIS to pass through the transduction barrier at will. When a Timeship passes through the Transduction Barriers the effect is visible from Gallifrey’s surface. If Gallifrey was every to be attacked the Transduction Barrier would be raised to Factor 5. The Time Lords also use Transduction Barriers in other locations such as TARDIS Neural Construction Docks to prevent the Capsules from escaping. The Eye (and thus all of Gallifrey) sits at the center of the Web of Time and anchors all of its threads. The Eye was stabilized in an eternally dynamic equation against the mass of Gallifrey. This star became known as the Eye of Harmony because it sits outside History and watches the rest of the Universe. The structure of the whole planet of Gallifrey became a bio-system in which biodata acts as a planet sized receiver and processor of data from the rest of the universe. The Time Lords use the Eye of Harmony’s control over the Web of Time and their abbility to manipulate the Weak Nuclear Force and the Force of Gravity to map out every inch of the Universe and define the rational laws upon which it functions. This is probably done using the Skasas Paradigm (aka the God Maker or the Universal Theory) which unlocks how the universe workds, giving the user complete control of the basic building blocks of the universe (time, space, matter). Using the data collected the Time Lords can observe and predict almost any event. In mapping out the Universe they rationalize it and create a permanent version of space-time. Because of this most primative forms of time travel aren’t capable of making major changes to History. This Intuitive Revolution destroys Irrationality and Magic. Cacophony (irrationality and magic) is banished from the Universe. This lack of belief might have caused the destruction of dragons, unicorns, faeries, slithy toves, bread-and-butterflies and other illogical creatures. Psionics are the only quasi-magical phenomenon that survives. The Web of Time is the structure that all future races used to build their own histories on. The Time Lords view History (aka the Web of Time) as high-order mathematical structures that can be predicted by powerful computers. These predictions can then be presented in an infinity chamber. The infinity chamber in the Citadel is capable of decrypting the universe and predicting the course of history, however these processes are complex enough to be regard as living beings. Indeed some Time Lords (and all members of Faction Paradox) view history as a sentient being or beings (sometimes called Loa). The Web is capable of affecting the mind’s of a Time Lord. In conjunction with the Web of Time, the Eye of Harmony was used to define the physical and temporal laws of the Universe. It also might have been used to influence the evolution of these species so that most resembled the Gallifreyans. The Rassilon Imprimiture biologically links a Time Lord to the Web of Time, making the foundation of the first four dimensions an integral part of Time Lord biology and culture. This link means that Time Lords keep history largely unchanging merely by existing. Indeed they are so intertwined with the universe that they are a part of the Laws of Time and Space. Thus only beings with a Rassilon Imprimiture (or a similar biodata) are capable of making significant changes to History. Thus in the Web of Time only Time Lords truely have free will. Unfortuanatly in order to keep the Web of Time stable it is necessary for the Time Lords to be steady and unchanging. This is why all Time Lords are instilled with an ideal of service towards Time. To ensure stability cultural change and natural reproduction are forbidden on Gallifrey. The very idea of Gallifrey having a history of its own is viewed as vulgar and primitive. A single timeship exploding in the Vortex is no danger but the destruction of a fleet of 1700 timeships could rupture the Web of Time permanently. It is unhealthy for even a Time Lord to stand too close to the Eye due to density of strands in the Web of Time. Whenever another species causes enough temporal distortion to damge the Web an Interventionist (probably the CIA) is sent to prevent the species from causing further damage. If that Time Lord doesn’t return then the Time Lords (again, probably the CIA) has that Time Lords personal timeline shut down effectively removing that worlds timeline from history (apparently to be replaced by one where the temporal damage never happend in the first place). This prevents the missing Time Lord from being used to damage the rest of the Web. The alternate timelines are attached, in a spoke like pattern, to the Axis, which is located in interdimensional space. The Overseer, from the sideways dimension of Guardus, supervises the Axis. Each of these timeline is trapped in a giant loop. While most of the timelines in the Axis are created by the Time Lords some are produced by other species. By the end of the Universe over 100 billion alternate versions of history will have been created. It should be noted that the creation of the Web of Time also create Anti-Time - the opposite of the positive time. This timeless shadow of the Web of Time is just as destructive to causality and continuity as anti-matter is to matter. The theory of Anti-Time is viewed as superstition for millions of years. OLLY MURS FT. SNOOP DOGG - MOVES
[3.78]
blah blah Ed Sheeran blah blah twit blah blah he did a good single once I think right blah blah
Joshua Minsoo Kim: And here I was, thinking that "Feels" couldn't get any lamer. [2]
Tobi Tella: I was liking this at first -- a pop song about not being good at dancing would be pretty novel, but it's shocking how quickly the premise grew old for me. The corny as hell verses aren't helped by a chorus that just reverts back to generic pop lyrics. I wish I had literally anything to say about "ft. Snoop Dogg," but alas, thus is the state of guest raps on pop songs in 2018. [4]
Ian Mathers: Snoop may be coasting these days, but he still has more personality, melodic nous, and idea of how to integrate his vocals with the (actually pretty decent) production than our headliner. Who's not bad here, just shrinkingly inessential. The result is... fine. It's fine. [5]
Alfred Soto: Snoop imitates the smooth-like-buttah insinuations of The Whispers -- the stuff of his childhood -- while the headliner catches up, flop sweat on his forehead. Quite far from peak Snoop, but he's still got moves. [4]
Maxwell Cavaseno: The lite-disco vibes of the record feel dated not because it's 2018 or anything, but because even this sense of pastiche pop is a bit past its prime. Murs comes off as a man alternating between Timberlake-esque bowtie-as-swag bravado and Sheeran-like admission-as-Personality which results in a tellingly two-dimensonal sort of loverman persona. The fact that a clearly phoned in verse from a man whose debut album was roughly 25 years ago has the most personality says something about the necessity of continuing to help Murs's enfeebled ego. Or lack thereof. [2]
Scott Mildenhall: What does it say about Ed Sheeran's songwriting that he uses exactly the same ideas, scansion and lyrics when writing songs for Rihanna, Rita and Little Mix as he does when writing comedy rap for contemporary pop music's Chris Kamara? Yes: nothing that you haven't heard before (coincidentally, the name of his next album), but it bears repeating (unlike that album). And yet, finally, he has found the perfect fit for his favoured cocktail of tequila and overstated awkwardness. Deal or no Deal £10 winner caricature that he is, Olly Murs conveys Normal Bloke in a way that Sheeran never will. [7]
Katherine St Asaph: The Lonely Island used to have more jokes per song. [4]
Ramzi Awn: Disney has their next hit single. "Moves" is equal parts Maroon 5 and Ed Sheeran, with a dash of Color Me Badd. The track comes alive in the second verse, but still leaves you hanging. [4]
Taylor Alatorre: Ed Sheeran successfully pranks a fellow English pop singer by giving him his absolute worst songwriting material and assuring him it's gold, as Snoop Dogg looks on in amusement. [2]
