I like to think about non/alterhumans in their everyday lives.

There is a rabbit who made your sandwich.

An elderich being teaches a math course.

The local werewolf takes care of the elderly.

Rams make up the staff at a pub nearby.

Dragons make excellent library workers.

Your favorite cashier happens to be a lion.

Your overly punctual classmate is a moth, and your less than punctual classmate is a hummingbird.

A goldfinch shops at a gift shop.

A catfish tours you through a historical site.

Across the street is a banshee who is walking their dog.

Cats work on their computers in small cafes.

And you move through your life as you are.

We are unique but certainly not alone. Your community is around you, even if you do not see it outright.

As a young teen I was hesitant to identify as otherkin because I was worried it was a phase. Almost ten years, a degree, and a so-called "real world" job later, I'm still otherkin. In fact, I'm more comfortable with my alterhuman identity than ever. But even if it had been a phase? That would be okay. It doesn't make what I was experiencing at the time any less real.

a reminder to all therians, alterhumans, otherkin, or anyone else reading this.

go outside today. just for a while, sit in the grass, look at the trees and the sky and the birds on powerlines or on branches or flying just below the clouds. listen to critters smaller than yourselves running amongst the same grass you're resting on. make sure to drink water and say hydrated even if it hurts to think about, you need it to survive and survival is necessary.

if you can't go outside today then it's alright, nobody blames you for that, you have your own reasons and those reasons matter so much to you, to me. open a window, sit by it and look. if you can't do that, try again tomorrow.

you have to keep living, you have to keep living and you cannot be the one to stop that from happening because you are far too loved and far too important to die. you need to live, i don't care what you think you've done wrong in life, you MUST keep going. i love you. you will love yourselves someday, i swear on my life.

breed stereotypes are still really weird to me, especially when they get applied to canine therians. like

"Oh your a German Shepherd, you must be a badass, all american, guard-police-bomb sniffing-military dog!!!"

and then this is me on the daily:

and this goes for all kins! "oh your an angel you must..." "oh your a demon you must..." "oh your a robot you must..." no shut up, everycreature is different, there's no monolith for a kin type!!

being an alterhuman in adulthood is awesome, actually.

Finding out you're some flavor of nonhuman in your 20s, 30s, 40s, etc is awesome, finding that piece of yourself is awesome and is worthy of celebration, not shame.

Having feelings of nonhumanity persist from childhood to adulthood isn't something to be ashamed of, it's merely a part of you and your identity and deserves respect and acceptance.

Being otherkin isn't something that should be frowned upon, not at any age. Even as it's branded as some teenage fad, adult otherkin, therians, etc exist and have always existed.

Dog Days Diary: Learning the tricks of the trade

Howdy folks

Recently I’ve been running into a lot of issues with my plurality, but, I’ve been doing pretty awesome on the animality and therianthropy front. This and a couple small things. Let’s talk about it

As some of you know I work at a pet supply store meaning almost every day I’m interacting with dogs as much as people, or interacting with people about dogs, and it’s doing wonders on my euphoria

Sometimes I’ve gotten so caught up in interacting with a pooch on the ground I almost start to play bow before I catch myself, the smell of dog fur and kibble is just, it’s amazing. I’ve gotten back into wearing my ears out more, which has been great for me!

Little things like these make being a dog feel, grounded, in humanity and society rather than out in the woods, I’m a house dog, a stray dog, I’m not a wolf by any means, and my doghood, my connection to that piece of me, has been as strong as ever

However my whole “two of them” situation hasn’t been the best recently

I’ve mentioned this a couple times on my blog but my headaches have gotten a lot worse, it’s honestly a learning experience every time, I learn new things that cuase Clover to want to be closer to consciousness, and have been working on avoiding those, mostly postive, triggers until we’re somewhere safe

Honestly it wouldn’t be so bad if the way I learned all this wasn’t trial and error with head splitting migraines

She’s been up to some antics though, it’s been good, she went shopping, by herself mostly and it went not badly. She’s been enjoying her show (Kipo Age of Wonderbeasts) which I joined in for last night and, I mean, yeah I get her excitement.

On her little shopping spree we finally got clothes that actually fit us! Which is, kinda big, at least I was getting tired of things being to tight, and idk, that’s been really happy for me

Sorry I havnt been doing daily the past few days, its been, hard, but I think its getting better now

It has to get better now

I will make sure it does

Run fast, bite hard, bark loud

I have recently seen a few posts hating on those who spiritually connect to their kintypes/theriotypes/etc. Addressing this felt important.

We are meant to be an inclusive community. Do not allow a false sense of superiority allow you to feel as if you are above people in the same community as you. Everyone here is hated on by outside people enough, we have to stick together and stop trying to tear our community apart. It is only achieving infighting and spreading our community far too thin.

Physical therians/otherkin/nonhumans are valid and belong here. Spiritual therians/otherkin/nonhumans are valid and belong here. Those who identify in all sorts of ways belong here and are valid.

Stop distancing yourself from the only ones that will truly have your back.

People with alterhuman identities that aren't strictly nonhuman have just as much place in the community as anyone else. If you're entirely human, or human as well as nonhuman, or even aspecies or something more nuanced--you're important, you're valued, and you're still alterhuman.

Share your experiences more often, if you'd like. The tags might be mainly filled with posts about nonhumanity, but that doesn't mean that your identity should be kept quiet! Be proud of who you are, humanity and all included.

Reasons someone may identify as alterhuman/otherkin:

They believe they are spiritually anchored to their 'kintype

They believe they have been reincarnated and were their 'kintype in a past life

They feel like they are a part of their 'kintype in a familial way

They feel as if part of their soul is their 'kintype

They have been dehumanized in the past and now their 'kintype has attached to their identity

They have non-human system members/headmates

Their neurodivergence causes them to associate themselves with their 'kintype

They experience clinical lycanthropy

They find peace when they ID as their 'kintype

All of these are valid and important parts of our community. Spiritual and psychological alterhumans are important and the reasons for your identity as alterhuman are often complex! They are equally welcome here. :)
