i have too many thoughts about miss councilor sevika (⁠•⁠‿⁠•⁠)
◗  they get on each other's nervs at first. sevika is still too new for her position and the need to prove herself to the most of the council drives her insane, cause those fucks are hella dense. so she's constantly on the edge, trying to wiggle between mentally fighting for her people on the meetings and actually taking part in rebuilding of zaun. and sometimes (or a lot of times) sevika sees reader as just another nuisances and a person who's ready to judge her just because she's not from piltover
◗  reader on the other hand just can't comprehend sevika's nature. she was raised and worked for years in a more "higher context culture" if you can call it so, so she's shoked how straight to the point sevika is, often taking it as nothing but rudeness. reader also can't say much to sevika, since she can't make herself speak up, taught to be respecrful and obedient to her supiriors, leaving a lot of space to passive aggression
◗   they're taking all the first places in the misunderstanding and miscommunication competition
◗  sevika hates how reader is set on the formal speech with her. "stop calling me councilor" "that's who you are" "yeah but you don't have to say it in every sentence, you sound like some wind-up toy" "okay, ma'am, I'll take you wish into account".
◗  she realises that reader calling her "ma'am" is worse but not for the same reasons
◗   their relationship is very much about learning and understanding each other and those around you. mostly for reader, cause she was brought up with a mindset of zaunites being someone lesser. and even though she follows etiquette, trying to be polite and serve as a perfect assistant, cause her whole life she dreamed of working with someone who changes other people's lifes, or even being that person, she can be judgmental towards sevika, refusing to see her point of view properly
◗   eventually they get closer and more comfortable with each other, which means reader drops her nice formal persona with her passive aggressiveness, and they actually menage to solve more problems while arguing and letting the steam out than just walking around on eggshells for days
◗   that's when sevika starts fall for reader. it's like reader's mask slipped and she can finally see a real person and not a workaholic machine. she loves how both sassy and caring reader can be. their fights now end in laughter and omg they also can say sorry to each other
◗   sevika insists on brining reader to any important event, where plus one is required. because reader helps her monitor her actions and gives helpful insides of other participants of course, not because she just wants to spend time with her, definitely not
◗  and reader is oblivious™. she's so happy, she finally doesn't hate her work and her and sevika can even be called friends, she doesn't notice any move sevika makes, simply thinking it's nothing but platonic gestures
◗   eventually she snaps. "are you straight?" "what?" "i asked around, and people said you're into women. did they lie?" "n-no" "then what?" "what what?" "if it's just me you don't like you could've said so"
◗   reader is of course shocked. she has to take couple of days off, embarrassed with how blind she was and to think the situation through
◗   next time they meet reader refuses sevika, saying it's not right to have a romantic involvement with any colleague, especially not with your boss. sevika understands and agrees
◗   well actually she doesn't. a compliment here, a touch there. sevika does nothing too provocative so reader can't say she's acting improper. but she's just playing a long game
◗   and yes, it works. months of teasing ruins poor reader's morals. flustered and very much horny she tugs sevika into a kiss on just a normal tuesday in councilor's office
◗ they may or may not have sex right there they definitely do

it is very telling, I think, how you only mention this side of the criticism because it makes what you call us "who don't understand subtext" sound bad.
When, if anything, that what you mention is only a part of why the scene is bad.
I'm gonna tell you a little secret. Vi was tortured in this prison. She was canonically beaten very often, she was canonically put into isolation and malnourished and I do not want to know what ELSE they did to her. Prisons are not pretty in that regard. The creators just failed to explore it because, and now I'm gonna tell you another secret, they didn't actually care about Vi's Trauma and what it should do to her.
she just recently, in the shows context, got out of there and then all those events happened, meaning she couldn't even come to terms with all the trauma she should realistically have, if they cared. Then the finale of season 1 happened and THEN she was hit by Caitlyn and ended up as a pit fighter, which the writers ALSO glossed over.
They made Vi addicted to alcohol and now I'm gonna tell you a secret about addiction. It doesn't just disappear when the Plot needs to move on.
So all of this traumatic stuff happened
and then we are back in the prison cell, where the first part of what I told you about happened. Now I'm gonna tell you the last secret. I have huge amount of Trauma I'm currently in the works to get through with help. It happens with exposure. But exposure does not entail springing everything all at once on the traumatized Person because you know what happens then? The person will spiral and will break down.
Now if the writers FUCKING cared one bit about Vi they should realize that this prison fuck was not her reclaiming anything. Because she faced severe Trauma there. The added bonus of her SISTER having been sitting in that same cell before just makes it WEIRDER and WORSE, it isn't the main reason.
But you know fair, you can only talk about people critically thinking about this, if you make their views ridiculous in context.
quick rant about the caitvi sesbian lex scene cause whatttt (amazing perfection art btw) but DO but do people not understand subtext? Expositional dialogue? Emotional vulnerability??? Like oh my word the Vi slander is annoying like generally speaking I’ve heard people literally say it’s out of character for Vi to not give a shit about jinx, miss the suicidal tendencies etc but like imagine being in Vi’s shoes. Here you are, expecting to be reprimanded by your then ex gf because once again here you are giving people you care about the benefit of doubt, because you love them that much, because you are a selfless individual that always put the needs of others above your own. You expect to be condemned for choosing wrong. (Rightfully so) But then the tables turn Caitlyn basically admits she planned the whole ordeal, knew Vi would free jinx so ultimately when we read between the lines it’s her saying she chooses Vi above anything else is willing to let go of whatever personal grudges she had in the past towards jinx/any unresolved feelings/hatred for her sister because she loves Vi that much. It’s such a heartfelt moment, Vi realising this hence the whole being-lost-in-the-moment thing god forbid Vi allows herself to be emotionally vulnerable for once to give into her NEEDS I love that scene so MUCH because it’s the first time caitvi get to be “selfish”, instead of focusing on fighting losing battles but yeah lets say vi is a heartless pos for fucking cait in a cell ig lmao

Everything changes very quickly after you meet Max Verstappen.
You are pulled into a world of action and luxury all because he wants you there. And you go willingly because you want to be with him, too. How could you not? The world famous champion is a kind, funny, and sweet man who loves his cats, his friends, and, as is becoming clear, you.
Much of the start of your relationship is scheduling. A day here and there between races, dinners and walks and movies at his place or yours. You spend a lot of time in airports when you can, working on the go and white knuckling your way through flight after flight. It's worth it to see him on the other side.
Somehow, you've never actually travelled together.
Until now.
The race weekend ends the best way possible -- the top step of the podium. A night of celebrations fades into an early morning flight on a private jet and this time, you're coming with. Because Max has three weeks off. He'll have to work, of course, spending time in Milton Keynes before the final stretch of the season, but for the most part you're going to have him all to yourself.
It does not occur to you until you're in the car on the way to the tarmac that Max has no idea how much you hate flying. You're in one of those big Sprinter vans, head on Max's shoulder as he scrolls through his phone. George and Carmen sit on the other side, the former's head tipped back as he dozes. Everyone is quiet and you're working a bit hard to keep yourself calm.
"What is it?" Max whispers. He puts his phone down and you look over at him. His hair is a mess, you can see that much even in the low light of the van. You reach out and run a hand through it.
"What?" you whisper back.
He shakes his head a little and wraps his fingers around your wrist. "You were all loose and then you got tense."
The frequent distance between you and the busy nature of your schedules demands that communication be top of mind. You do not lie to each other about your feelings, and you do not hide things. Even things like this.
"I don't really like flying," you say, softly. "I've never told you because we've never flown together. It just makes me kind of anxious. I've never been able to shake it."
His brows furrow. "Really?"
"I'll be fine," you assure him. "Just, maybe hold my hand during takeoff and landing. And if there is any turbulence."
"But -- I don't understand. Are you afraid?"
You know that there is really no way to make him understand but also that he won't stop trying to. Max gets afraid, he gets nervous. He's only human. But he combats it with sheer willpower, focus, and skill.
"I fly this way all the time," he says, urgent this time. "It's totally safe."
"That's not -- Max, I just get nervous. It's not really to do with safety. I just don't really enjoy it."
"Oi," George says, rousing. "What are you two yapping about?"
"Go back to snoring, George," Max says, not taking his eyes off you.
"Do I really snore?" you hear him ask in a hushed tone. Carmen shushes him.
"Pulling up to the plane now, folks," the driver calls back.
"Seriously," Max says, sounding a little desperate. "It'll be alright."
"I know. I fly all the time, Max." His frown deepens.
"To come see me," he reminds you. "If I knew you didn't like it, I would have --"
"What?" you interrupt. "Invented teleportation? It's okay, Max. Knowing it's to see you makes the whole thing easier, honestly."
This does not satisfy him. You can tell. It's a problem he can't solve -- his least favorite kind. There is no simulation to run for this, no meeting he can talk through, no track he can circle a thousand times.
The van door opens and you're all beckoned out onto the tarmac. You follow George and Carmen with your bag and Max is at your heels, his duffle slung over one shoulder and his other hand on the small of your back. Normally, he's not this touchy, but he seems reluctant to let your conversation in the van go.
"Max--"
"I'm thinking, liefje."
You roll your eyes. "About how to invent teleportation?"
"Something like that," he grumbles.
The jet is narrow, an aisle on one side and four rows of seats on the other. Four sets of two, a table between them. Carmen and George settle into one nook and you toss your bags into another. You slide into the window seat and Max sits heavily in the one next to you, still frowning. You let him, instead looking around to absorb the new experience.
It's much nicer than a regular plane, that's for sure. There is a cooler stocked with drinks and a cabinet full of what seems to be snacks. You can stretch your legs to rest your feet on the seat across from you. It's so early you figure all of you will just sleep, though Max's mood seems at odds with that plan.
The pilot introduces herself and gives a quick rundown of the route and airtime. You all nod and smile and then the doors close and the lights dim.
Max's hand finds yours immediately. You sit up a little and look over at him. He looks even more frazzled than he did at the hotel, when you both rolled out of bed and into comfy clothes. Soft pants and a hoodie that make him look boyish, younger than he is. But here, his cheeks are a little flushed and his jaw is set like he's about to get in his race car.
"What do you do normally?" he asks, softly. You can hear George's soft snores already. "When I'm not there."
"Max," you sigh.
"Tell me, please?"
The seat shifts under you as it heads for the runway. You close your eyes and take a deep breath.
"Well, I don't hold some random guy's hand," you tease. He squeezes your palm and huffs. 
"He could be so lucky."
The plane comes to a stop and you know what happens next. Your mind remains preoccupied with Max -- a good thing, right now -- but your body tenses and you squeeze your eyes shut tighter as the engines kick up and you pick up speed.
Max says your name but you don't budge. "Liefje," he whispers, much closer than before. You can feel his breath on your cheek as he gently holds your chin with two fingers and turns your face towards him.
And then he's kissing you. A closed mouth press of his lips to yours, firm but still. At least until you sigh into it, releasing your death grip on the arm rest to reach for him blindly, your tangled fingers between you. The kiss deepens, his nose sliding against yours as you part your lips and the chaste press becomes more. Max's tongue licks into your mouth leisurely, like he has all the time in the world to explore you. 
You kiss and kiss and kiss, so long that a voice in your head wonders if maybe you can do this for the whole flight, please? Max tugs your legs across his until you're practically in his lap, spread across the two seats like they're one.
"We're reached cruising altitude," the speakers crackle. "Feel free to move about, but please be mindful."
Max pulls away, a strand of spit glistening between you until he wipes it away with a smirk. His hair is even messier than before and his cheeks are pink. Lips swollen, eyes glassy -- you must look the same. Your heart is racing and you laugh, breathless.
"Well," Max says, then swallows. His voice is raspy, hoarse with desire. "Guess you have to fly with me from now on."
"Max." You pitch forward and settle where his neck and shoulder meet and inhale. His arms wrap around you and he holds you close. You can hear his heart racing just as fast as yours.
"Yeah, yeah," he grumbles. "I know."
"I can do it," you remind him. "I do it all the time. I just don't like it, that's all."
You feel the press of his lips on your hair.
"I just don't like that I can't fix it," he says. "I can't get inside your head and make you know it's alright."
"No, you can't," you sigh. The plane jerks just a little -- a swoop of your stomach that has you gasping. Max's hold on you tightens and he says your name.
"How do you do this alone?" he rasps, mouth next to your ear as he rubs your back.
"I close my eyes," you say, taking deep breaths. "And I imagine you with me."
He curses softly. "We should get a jet by ourselves next time," he mutters. "Then I can really distract you."
That gets you to laugh, though you can't say you hate the idea. It makes you feel warm, makes you press your thighs together.
"Next time," you echo. "But for now..."
Max cups your jaw and ghosts his nose over yours. "For now..."
He brings your lips together.

I saw some Kathryn gifs and an idea came to me: Agatha, after a long and exhausted working week, asks female reader to have a date, but the date is on their house because Agatha is too tired to go out. Reader is happy, tho, because her love language is quality time and physical contact. Something like a dinner, maybe, idk... so they end up having a very lovely time together, cuddling on the sofa until they fall asleep. Smut or not in the end, it's up to you... but I'd love to read something cute from you:( I don't know if that's okay...

A change of plans in your date night with Agatha leads to a confession.

Still on for dinner and a movie tonight? 
It’s the text you sent your girlfriend, Agatha, an hour ago and she still hasn’t responded. This usually isn’t like her, but you know how busy work can get. And you know how tough the last week had been on her, but you were really looking forward to spending this Friday night with her. 
The two of you had been dating for three months now and it always seemed like the older woman wanted to do something, whether it be going to a nice restaurant or mini-golfing or painting pottery. Like tonight, Agatha is supposed to take you to the newest spot in town that just opened up and then you were going to see Corpse Bride as it was playing again in theaters. 
You would never complain about any of this, but you’re a little worried that Agatha thinks that you need all of this to hang out with her. 
A text from Agatha buzzes finally. Doll, I’m so sorry. You frown and pick your phone up, afraid she’s going to cancel. I’m so exhausted from work, how would you feel just coming over tonight for something chill? I can order pizza. 
You breathe a sigh of relief and type back. I would love that! See you later. You almost finish the text with a ‘Love you’ but neither of you had said it yet and you were sure as hell not going to say it over the phone for the first time. 
You also weren’t sure how Agatha felt. She was older and you weren’t exactly sure what she saw in you. She was beautiful and confident and wealthy and could have anyone she wanted, and yet she chose you. 
A part of you deep down is perturbed that this is just a fling for her. It would crush you if that’s what it was. 
But you bury that insecurity somewhere dark inside you and you get ready for date night. 
Since you’re not doing anything special, you opt for a comfy purple sweater and black leggings. You do put on lacy underwear just in case Agatha’s in the mood, but you are totally content if not. 
You just want to spend time with your girlfriend. 
You get to her house right at six, which was when you were supposed to meet anyway, and you only have to wait a second after ringing the doorbell for Agatha to appear. 
“Hey, baby,” she says, stepping to the side so you can enter. She’s wearing sweatpants and a tank top, hair loose, but she’s never looked more beautiful. You press a cheek to her kiss and she hums happily and follows you into the kitchen. “Sorry to cancel our plans at the last minute, I’m just so tired.” 
“No worries at all,” you reassure her, opening the pizza box that’s already on the counter. It’s your favorite kind and you put two pieces on a plate and grab a beer. She does the same and leads you over to the couch where you sit on opposite sides facing each other. “Everything okay?” You ask once you’re both settled. 
She sighs dramatically and her head flops back against the couch. You laugh and nudge her with your foot. 
Agatha looks back at you, mirth sparkling in her eyes. “It was just a rough week, hon. Lots of people bothering me, asking stupid questions they should know the answers to, following up on emails that they haven’t responded to. And I had to work late those couple nights.”
You frown. “I’m sorry. You work so hard and no one seems to give you the credit you deserve.” You take a bite of your pizza and chew it thoughtfully, wondering what else you can say. You know she’s been really busy and you’ve hardly seen her at all this week. 
But she leans forward and pats your thigh. “But this has certainly helped.” 
You raise an eyebrow. “The pizza and beer?” You ask innocently, fishing for more. She rolls her eyes fondly, knowing how much validation you like. 
“And the company, hon. You’re pretty great, you know?” 
You smile and squirm with contentment. “You are too, Aggie. I’m always happy to just sit on your couch and talk. I just want to spend time with you, no matter what we’re doing.” 
She smiles gratefully. “Me too, baby. Now, how has your week been?” You launch into an animated retelling of something that happened at work and she hangs onto every word. It takes you a bit longer to tell the story in-between bites of your pizza, but her attention never wavers. 
It makes you feel so warm inside how Agatha always pays attention to what you’re saying. She makes you feel so seen and you couldn’t be more lucky to have her. 
Once you’re done talking and with the pizza, she puts on an episode of Modern Family, your comfort show. You lay between her legs, your back to her front, while she gently strokes your hair. You trace lazy circles on her thighs through her sweatpants and it’s absolutely perfect. 
She tilts your head to the side and angles hers so she’s able to kiss you softly. It’s just a press of her lips against yours at first, but it slowly becomes more and your mouth parts for her tongue. 
It’s not a needy kiss though, not a kiss meant to lead to something more, it’s a kiss full of adoration and longing and intimacy. 
“You’re so perfect, baby,” Agatha murmurs against your lips.
“Not as perfect as you,” you say back and you can feel her smile against your skin. 
She lets you go back to the show and wraps her arms around you. You can feel her deep breathing and you feel so safe and warm that you start to doze off. 
Right before sleep takes you though, you feel her nuzzle your temple and whisper into your ear: “I love you, baby.” 
Your heart leaps and you suddenly feel more awake than ever. You whirl around so fast that you almost fall off the couch. Agatha’s eyes are wide and you think you see fear in them. 
“Did you just–” You start. 
At the same time, Agatha says, “I’m so sorry–”
You both cut off at the same time. You smile wider than you ever have before and you move so you’re straddling her lap. You put your arms around her neck and rest your forehead against hers. 
“Agatha Harkness,” you say. Her eyebrows raise. “I love you, too.” 
She closes the distance between you and kisses you again, this time with more passion. You whine and try to pull her as close as you can, needing to feel her body against yours as much as you can. 
“Say it again,” she says and you smirk. 
“I-” You kiss her. “Love.” Another kiss. “You.” She grins and gives you a long kiss and it eventually sizzles out and the two of you are just holding each other, your chin on top of her shoulder. 
“I’m so glad I cancelled our other date,” Agatha muses and you chuckle, squeezing her tighter. “Stay here with me forever, love?” 
You promise that you will. 
And when you both wake up in the morning in that same position, she tells you that she loves you again.
You hope she never stops saying it, because you know that you never will.

Why ya'll hate on Cait and call her a dictator?
Well-written characters often have a story deeper than what you explicitly see them do or hear them say. Just because everything is set in a fantasy world, doesn't mean that characters are not affected by tragic events and the human condition.
First of all, Cait wasn't the one who made a police state. Ambessa and the council did that. Ambessa orchestrated the whole thing. Cait went along with it because she was turned around by grief. That shit messes with your judgment, but she was still trying to do what she and Vi agreed on. To focus on the real problem and prevent hurting innocent people.
Cait tried to control an unraveling situation AND literal warlord WHILE being inexperienced in how to deal with it, having a big ol' lesbian break up, AND dying inside.
You could see that when Cait argued to Ambessa that there are innocent people and there MUST be justifiable cause to arrest anyone. In Cait and Ambessa's interactions it's implied that Cait was getting in the way of Ambessa's agenda off-screen. She tried to keep something worse from happening because she does acknowledge the historical and current oppression of Zaunites.
This mirrors the way she offered Vi the badge to give her a voice in what happens to her sister if the enforcers caught her. The enforcers coming after Jinx was going to happen regardless of Cait. She took control by volunteering and taking precautions. See- While they did use gas, Vi would never agree to something that would permanently hurt the people of Zaun. The tactic gave them fewer chances of having to physically fight Zaunites who were just trying to defend themselves. Believe it or not, it was a controlled operation until grief got the better of Cait and things looked worse than it actually was.
The way that Cait deeply believes in equality in spite of a personal vendetta is why Ambessa sent Maddie to try and control her by 'filling' her hole (no pun intended). When Maddie attempted to have Cait stop the police state situation and withdraw, she did focus on Jinx at first but the second part of not wanting to make things worse was something she had a lot more to say about before Maddie interrupted. And Cait was right. What would have happened if she hadn't taken the role and played along? A puppet councillor or Ambessa herself would have been the figure head and do so much worse. Those people don't have the same perspective and understanding as Cait.
When Cait and Vi argue about listening to a war pig oink poison in her ear, she yells "I know!" as she throws a piece of war ship used in strategizing. You can tell her role was a strategic choice to have some control over the events that unfolded. That's why Vi didn't villinize her. Vi understood that Cait never really accepted anything Ambessa said. That's why she helped Vi at the commune. Cait was a double agent taking shit from all sides to stop worse things from happening.
She had grief and really crap options, but she always chose the lesser of the evils to try and stay true to who she really was. She even resigns in her argument with Vi, that she didn't put Jinx, her own mother's killer, in jail or punish her in any way. It's another example of her faltering in decision-making when overwhelming or unexpected things happen and it also tells us what she is. She's human. She doesn't make excuses for taking on an objectively bad role and making mistakes. When she said "We can't erase our mistakes.", she's also talking about herself. She takes responsibility and tries to do good. In the end, all she wanted was closure for her grief by having Jinx accept responsibility NOT by killing or abusing her or innocent Zaunites for that matter.
Imo there's a lot in Arcane that shows Cait as a flawed but inherently good person, and Vi absolutely knows it. They see each other warts and all. Hey OP everything I'm about to say I'm saying out both kindness and frustration.
I'm guessing that you are not Jewish because what you wrote really does not reflect the reality of life for Jews in the USA at that time.
Jews would not be socialites or rubbing elbows with wealthy and elite. And no matter how much any Jews would have stripped away any their Jewish identity they still would have been viewed as classless and lesser by the upper echelon.
Jews were immigrants who primarily did not speak English and mostly were on the east coast.
Fun fact about Jews during this time: Jews who kept Shabbat would have to look for a new job ever week because they would be fired for refusing to work on Shabbat.
As for San Fransisco Jews only came there due the California Gold Rush which happened the mid point of the 1800's.
Jews were heavily involved in Unions and were a major backbone of the Labor movement.
The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire of 1911 is something that is major keystone is labor rights and movement history. You can not learn about unions and labor laws or anything to do with that without hearing about this. But you know what always gets glossed over, ignored, and often outright erased? The fact that the majority of the workers were Jewish girls and women.
In fact if you look at pictures of many labor marches you will notice that the signs are in Yiddish.
The Jewish identity of the Jewish contributors the unions, labors laws, child labor laws, and labor rights get erased and they become immigrants of X country when their Jewishness played a important role in why they fought for what they did, but also why they faced the discrimination and unfair labor practices they faced.
Also Oscar Wilde would not have had anything to do with anything related to Jews because he was a massive antisemite.
There is this thing that people often do, such as what you have, where they write Jews as having wealth, privilege, and access thinking that they are being inclusive when really what is happening is the furthering of antisemitic tropes and stereotypes as well as a revision of history when this happens in historical settings.
You want to make the Jewish character the prince of the story no problem. Have them be an organizer for a Union and the ball can some kind event or even march or something related to unions.
That can be a connection point between the two of them. The prince title can be a nickname or another connection point where her name, either first or last, is mispronounced by non-Yiddish speakers.
You could even have it be that she is going out and doing out reach to different jobs to get them to unionize/help unionize.
as for views towards their child being gay honestly it would vary with how religious the family was, but also the fact that she was a girl and not a boy it would not as much as a deal due to religious understandings.
While a lot of parts of Yiddish culture has been lost due to the loss of many Yiddish speakers their has existed within this culture a whole queer culture/world though they had their own words to describe it.
This idea has merit and could work it just need to fix the historical inaccuracies and cultural insensitivities in regards to the Jewish parts.
I'm not Chinese so I can't speak to those parts and I don't OP if you are Chinese so again I don't feel it is my place to speak on any of those parts.
Because I do not want Sephardim to left out or forgotten I want to point out that Ashkenazi Jews are not and have not been the only Jews in the USA.
1934 saw San Francisco's first Sephardi Synagogue.
So while yes there was in the 1800's a large influx of Jewish immigration of Ashkenazi Jews to the USA that doesn't mean that there were no Sephardim in the USA already or Sephardim who at the time who were moving around the USA or immigrating to the USA.
I don't want Sephardi history to be ignored or erased.
There is nothing wrong with having the Jewish character be Ashkenazi, I just want to make sure that if I'm accounting for proper historical record in regards to Jews then I'm doing that and leaving out Sephardim.

agatha just had the unimaginably traumatic experience of her mother's evil ghost possessing her body, so of course she cracks jokes. she's shaking like a leaf, but hey, coping mechanism gotta cope!

when evanora tried to execute agatha, stealing secrets or whatever was only an excuse, she was punishing her daughter for the sin of being born. whatever she says, her so called worry for these other witches is also an excuse. she's simply furious that someone has begun to think of agatha as a person rather than a monster. it's once again a selfless VS selfish paradox, evanora is always framing her actions as selfless and for the greater good, but her hatred for agatha is undeniably raw and personal. I would love to learn what evanora's life was like, who were her parents? what turned her into such a hateful mother?
(look at how angry rio already is. and alice always protecting the person closest to her by default.)

this is the ultimate humiliation for agatha, someone who has always kept her past and struggles so close to the chest. now one of her deepest traumas is laid bare for everyone to see and judge. she's always trying to come off as strong and unfeeling and formidable, but here she is, a sad little girl abused by her own mother.

btw I see you all have strong feelings about ghosts and billy's powers! lol I got so many comments. I see you, I see you! Granted I'm not actually super invested in my ghost theories, this being a made up marvel show and all, but here's what I think:
agatha says to wanda, "you have no idea how dangerous you are, you're supposed to be a myth, a being capable of spontaneous creation, and here you are, using it to make breakfast for dinner!" agatha, one of the most powerful witches ever existed, could not create food for nicky. like, the scope of wanda's powers (and billy's by extension) is the kind of scary that can reshape reality itself and truly and properly fuck up the Sacred Balance or whatever rio calls it.
when I say billy created a ghost evanora, yes it's a copy but in the same way a Star Trek transporter makes a copy, you know what I mean? whether the orignal stays behind or not, billy's evanora is the real evanora. and if you believe in souls, that gets even more complicated! did billy take evanora's soul from the afterlife and plopped her in here, or did it copy it too? and was wanda actually able to create billy's and tommy's or did she catch the wandering soul of stillborn twins?
see I don't think evanora was a ghost prior to this (again, I might be proven wrong in the future, but this is where I'm at right now). if that were the case, you know she'd been haunting agatha's ass, wouldn't have given her a moment of peace. maybe rio took extra care to send her to the afterlife, idk. now rio looks shocked and angry to see evanora, like this is a new development.

evanora zeroes in on rio, approaches. rio takes a whole step back and makes herself smaller. she's nervous. she says that ghosts are cheaters, but it goes beyond that, doesn't it? rio understands life and death, but a ghost is neither, or both. it goes beyond all her control and expertise, and for the first time since we've known her, she's at a disadvantage. ironic, isn't it, considering what happens to agatha in the finale?

agatha, who's been cowering in a corner, chooses this moment to approach. does she want to protect rio and billy and the others? or is she so desperate for an ounce of love and affection from her mother that she, coward as she is, actually wants to put herself in arm's way?

while everyone is focused on agatha, alice looks at rio. she is putting together evanora's words, agatha's terror and rio's hatred. jen is being selfish. alice, generous alice, could never be selfish

the last time agatha saw her mother she was still a kid. now she is a mother herself and the mere thought of not loving, not wanting to protect your child, of actually going out of your way to harm them? it's simply inconceivable to her.

there is a moment in a child's life when they see a parent clearly for the first time, their weakness and their flaws. this is especially true for an abused child, it comes a day when you realize that despite being called bad and evil and blamed for the pain happening, it was never really your fault. agatha knows what a parent's love should look like now. and this is not it.

rio visibly deflates. she is the only person in the room agatha opened up with about her mother. there is nothing she can do to spare her pain now. she has no power against evanora

alice has a blinding moment of shock, realization, pity. she knows only too well what generational pain and trauma can do to a person. but she still had a mother who loved her. agatha didn't.

jen, who used to be a healer, can no longer feel compassion. jen has had to learn to protect herself above all others. because evanora hurt agatha, and agatha hurt jen in return.

alice, who's always been the first to jump to everyone's defense, who always puts others before herself. she has seen agatha bare and helpless, she has seen that raw core that agatha has always hidden and, in her final moments, she's accepted agatha in her coven. it's more instinct than rationality, but alice has always been a heart over head kinda girl. if she can see the harpy, if she can see the pain, by GOD she'll do something about it.

a name was all it took for agatha to pass her trial, and look how much was needed to get it out of her. only billy's chaos could do the impossible: drag agatha's ravaged and wrecked heart to the surface. billy only wanted to help her heal, but he's a just a boy with the power to shape the universe. it took evoking ghosts and dredging up horrible trauma to make all of agatha's defenses crumble and raw-beat her into admitting her pain, into maybe, if we're lucky, starting on the road to recovery. oh, billy. you don't know how to handle things gently yet, with your big man's hands and your young, too young soul.

Someone on one of my posts about them mentioned it was fitting for the "god of passion to marry the god of invention." And it made me remember that quote that's like "I loved her to the point of invention" and yeah, good stuff.
It's not like you don't have things to do. You are a god, after all, you have duties to attend to, people to bless and all that. You have battlefields to walk through, soldiers that swear on their love's life, that beg to see them one more time, that take the rage of loss and channel it into power. You have weddings and births, deaths and funerals, first steps, reunions, first and last loves to look over. You have artists to watch, to stare entranced as they paint their muse, their passion seeping into every brushstroke, every strike of their hammed.
You pluck iron shavings off the floor and hum to yourself as you go. You pull arrowheads from broken ribcages. First teeth fall into your hands. Hair from a pet gone too soon. Lace from a wedding dress, notes off pages of music, stone chunks, paint chips, love letters half finished. You collect it all and shuffle through it as you sit outside your husband's forge. You don't have your stool out here, so you content yourself with standing. You shift your weight onto your other foot when one starts to ache.
You think he would like the nails, the arrowhead, the iron shavings, things he can melt down. He has better metal you're sure, but you don't know what to give your husband when you hardly know him. Does he even like his work? Is the forge something he's relegated to and not something he's passionate about. You love Love, you're the god of it, you find passion exhilarating, inspiring, transmogrifying. Nikto must feel the same about his work.
It's well into the night by the time the forge door swings open, your husband running a scarred hand through matted hair, tugging his mask off to reveal a crisp line of soot across his nose and cheeks. The black mark is matched only by the cacophony of white lines that strike like lightning over his skin, pulling his lips into a snarl and puckering his cheek. He freezes when he sees you. His eye twitches.
There's a large part of you that feels silly offering up your treasures. There's a small part of you that stares wide eyed at your husband, at the spectacular carnage that cuts his handsome features, and wishes he didn't slip his mask back on. So you offer him your metals, your scraps of love with nowhere to go.
"This is trash," He tells you, his voice muffled and distorted by the cylinders on either side of his mask, as he hands you a jewel, "we don't want it."
He turns, with your offering, and shuts the door to the forge behind him again. You can hear the heavy *thunk* of the lock sliding back into place.
Your bed is cold.

Do you have any tips for how to write Arthur Morgan’s personality in general? I’m trying to write a fic but I feel like no matter what I do it somehow just makes him feel out of character haha. It’s probably since I’m writing one with a reader/oc character x Arthur. Like I don’t want to remove Mary from the story because she shaped so much of his character’s pain (since in my opinion I assume that Arthur probably got Eliza with child from a one night stand trying to bounce back after Mary had told him that she was engaged to some other man). But I also don’t know how to really write Arthur as he’s completely over Mary and how he is instead with someone he considers the love of his life, cheesy I know but I had too haha. I’m also trying to somewhat do a slow burn and trying to instead have Arthur seemingly brood over his love for the reader rather than how he did with Mary in the game.
I don’t know if this makes sense and feel free to ignore it LOL
Ahah here goes nothing- my consensus on a general understanding of Arthur Morgan-
I think the biggest thing that people should focus on when writing Arthur is his personality differences between men and women. There is a pretty clear divide between how behaves with men compared to how he behaves with women. It can change slightly between how close he is with the people, but it's pretty much the same.
With women, Arthur is very respectful and chivalrous. He even gets mad at other men if they don't behave accordingly. He is more interested in them as well in the sense that he'll listen to their dreams and hobbies and either add to the conversation or encourage them in some way that seems more meaningful, even if it can be at times superficial, just a way to be polite. However, he is no push over. You know that meme that's like "Me and my girl don't argue, she tells me to shut the fuck up and I do"? Yeah, that is NOT Arthur. He can raise his voice, call them out, etc etc. when he feels disrespected in some way or if the person is doing something stupid. We see this with Mary, Sadie, and Abigail. He is also more likely to talk about his emotions with women, but not really BE emotional. Idk if that makes sense, but I don't know how else to say it.
However, Arthur is more inclined to be disrespectful to women who don't fit into his view of life and the status quo of the time (ie. Prostitutes, masculine women, etc.)
Honestly, just think of that when writing him with your oc (I'm going to assume they're a woman 😭). Is Mary a big part of Arthur's character? Yes and no. He can obviously make time for her, but she isn't controlling his every action and thought process. His main focus is the collective of the gang and once the gang is safe, that's when he'll actively start looking for love because that's when he'll have the time and energy for it.
Now with men, Arthur is much more rough. He is very much a suck it up kinda guy with other dudes. There is clearly a hierarchy in the game and he enforces it, especially with the men underneath him. He forces them to work, doesn't take their excuses really, will call them out, will be mean, and will even make threats (ie. Sean). He likes men who are hard workers and are always on the go (Lenny) and is more likely to be jovial, open, and willing to talk. He also will take NO shit from other men and that will either leave the other man read to filth or a black eye. Arthur also does not disclose feelings of fear or inadequacy to other men, but he will show more active emotions like joy or anger.
Honestly, whenever I feel like writing Arthur, I just think of the average older American outdoorsman and it helps me out pretty well. Chivalrous and respectful with expectations and a no bullshit attitude.

I also didn't interpret this scene as rape. There is fallic symbolism in the object and their interactions are and have been very sexually charged. However this isn't sexual assault. By stabbing Galadriel with Morgoth's crown Sauron forces the blood binding upon Galadriel, whereas in 1x08 he had suggested they perform a blood binding ritual. However the blood binding was separate to the effective marriage proposal, also in 1x08. When he suggested the blood binding he enveloped her hands that were holding Finrod's dagger saying "this is it, you bind me to the light and I bind you to power". So I believe that while Sauron's methods are much more violent in 2x08, his goal is the same: bind himself to the light, soul merging with Galadriel. He believes he knows what is best and he also knows that Galadriel is in conflict with herself since part of her really wants to join him. Stabbing her with Morgoth's crown also punishes her for saying they were "never alike" and denying their connection, forcing her to "touch the darkness" , feel him, experience what he experienced, make her understand. But I don't think he means to possess her either as a beautiful object, or sexually. Yes, he does desire her in every way imaginable, including sexually, but he would want her to have the choice to submit herself to him. This is what him asking her to give him Nenya symbolises, after she has been stabbed. Her doesn't "take her". And he had tears of happiness in his eyes not because he finally possessed her but because he thought she finally understood him and was about to join him.
Binding, Forced Marriage and Free Will in Tolkien Legendarium
According to Tolkien lore, what is truly happening in Sauron and Galadriel scene in 2x08?

The fandom is underestimating what truly happened here, and if blood binding theory is correct (and everything seems to point to that), we also have the (obvious) parallel with Morgoth and Arien in “Morgoth’s Ring” (that I already discussed in another post). Now, let’s analyze what this means.

To me, this moment when the sun shines on Galadriel, and Sauron seems dumbstruck seals the deal of the Morgoth and Arien parallel that’s happening here.
Sauron isn’t only raping her body in this scene; he’s raping her soul, too. He is forcing them to bind together. And this binding is marriage. Sauron is taking Galadriel as his wife, by force.

And this is aligned with the very symbolism of Morgoth’s crown in the lore; Morgoth wanted everyone to know the Silmarils belonged to him, like Sauron wants everyone to know Galadriel belongs to him, now.
Forced marriage via rape is something that happens a few times in Tolkien legendarium (with both Men and Elven characters), and is what Morgoth did to Arien, the Maia of the Sun, when she refused to be his wife and queen, and share her light with him.
Both Morgoth and Arien are spiritual beings so this rape isn’t alike human sexual assault (the physical act). Galadriel is also a immortal spirit, and Sauron is a spiritual being; so the process is similar to Morgoth and Arien.

And in 2x08, Sauron is not only compared to Morgoth but also acts like him with his chaotic and destructive killing of Celebrimbor.
This would be a good time to say that Elves are not “higher beings” nor of “divine nature” on Tolkien legendarium, they represent the intelectual and artistic-driven humans, and they want to be the perfect Catholics (and we have a lot of examples of Elven characters being the opposite). Elves are immortal because immortality was Eru Ilúvatar gift to them (as “mortality” was His gift to Men). Both Elves and Men are Children of Ilúvatar, and only Him can give or take immortality (not the Valar, like I’ve read some Tolkien fans saying).

Galadriel is absolutely shocked; she’s aware of what he is doing.
Now, Galadriel is already married to Celeborn, at the eyes of the Valar and the Eldar. But Sauron is a fallen Maia, a servant of Melkor, a member of the “Satanic rebellion” against Eru Ilúvatar (like Tolkien tells us in his letters). Whatever oath Galadriel has made to the Valar doesn’t mean anything to Sauron, not only because he doesn’t recognize their authority but he’s also in open rebellion against them. To him, Galadriel is as good as single. And Sauron isn’t only binding her to him, but to Morgoth (the darkness), too.
And Celebrían has not been born, yet in “Rings of Power”. Creating children is when Elves, in fact, join souls to create new life, blessed by Eru Ilúvatar (because only He has the power of creation). There’s this weird headcanon in the Tolkien fandom that Elves join souls whenever they have sex, but no. This only happens when they intent to produce a child; Tolkien tells us this in “The Nature of Middle-earth” when he describes Elven sex. To the Elves “sex = marriage” because of Tolkien Catholic message in his legendarium (but more on that later).

The consequences of such a thing are dubious. Galadriel survives (paralleling Frodo/Morgul knife from the Witch King of Angmar), but like Arien, she’s now “tainted” by Morgoth/Sauron. In her case, by both (because Sauron used Morgoth’s crown). Frodo was tainted for the rest of his life, too, with a wound that would never wholly heal, and it would cause pain and torment for the rest of his life, to the point he decided to go to Valinor at the end of “Return of the King”.
On his notes, Christopher Tolkien recalls the reader that the Valar “beget not” (don’t reproduce), and that Morgoth’s intention was to humiliate Arien and harvest her light for himself (not produce “fiery offspring”). We do know, however, that Maiar can reproduce (Melian example, and Tolkien implied some fallen Maiar might have reproduced with the first Orcs, in his “Orcs” essay on “Morgoth’s Ring”). So, what does this mean for Sauron and Galadriel? Adding to the fact that Sauron might have bound himself to his physical form in the legendarium (like his master before him), this can open Pandora box, depending on Sauron’s intentions here.

But we also have another detail in this scene that further complicate things, lore-wise. Galadriel was about to join Sauron:

And Tolkien legendarium tell us this was out of her own free-will, because characters can chose, and there is no “hypnosis” nor enslavement of wills in this world. That’s Sauron’s goal but he can never achieve it. That’s the whole point of his tyranny never being fully accepted by every character, and alliances being made to fight him, every time.
This is the moment that marks the “Fall of Galadriel”. She succumbs to temptation. Like Eve she ate the apple of the tree of knowledge, after being tempted by the serpent.

All of this seems very contrived. And this is why I think this scene was poorly-executed. All these references are present, we are dealing with deep Tolkien legendarium here, but it’s very confusing because the events appear to contradict themselves.
We have Sauron raping Galadriel, body and soul to harvest her light for himself and share some of his power with her (parallel with Morgoth and Arien in “Morgoth’s Ring”);
A wound that will never heal and Galadriel almost joining Sauron until Nenya advises her otherwise and she doesn’t want to anymore (Frodo and Witch King of Angmar in “Fellowship of the Ring” and “The Two Towers”);
Galadriel jumps to her death to escape Sauron; is this a reference to Elves not being able to cope with sexual assault or something else?
This weirdness I’m talking about isn’t new to Tolkien legendarium, by the way. We see this in another tale, although I’m not sure “Rings of Power” was using this as a reference here, mind you. And it’s the story of Aredhel and Eöl the Dark Elf (“The Silmarillion”, “The Nature of Middle-earth” and “Morgoth’s Ring”).
Aredhel, the “White Lady of Gondolin”, was Fingolfin's daughter, and she lived in Gondolin with her brother Turgon. Gondolin was a isolated kingdom, and Aredhel was an adventurous spirit who felt trapped. One day, she’s granted permission to leave, and she intents to meet with the Sons of Fëanor. Anyway, she eventually gets separated from her escort and finds herself in the dark forest of Nan Elmoth.
In “History of Middle-Earth”, Tolkien writes: “Eöl found Irith, the sister of King Turgon, astray in the wild near his dwelling, and he took her to wife by force: a very wicked deed in the eyes of the Eldar.”
The account in “The Silmarillion” paints a somewhat different picture, even though it recognizes that Eöl used spells to trap Aredhel and force her deeper into the forest, until she arrived at his doorstep: “And when Aredhel, weary with wandering, came at last to his doors, he revealed himself; and he welcomed her, and led her into his house. And there she remained; for Eol took her to wife, and it was long ere any of her kin heard of her again. It is not said that Aredhel was wholly unwilling, nor that her life in Nan Elmoth was hateful to her for many years.”
Some say Tolkien changed his version but this comes from a misunderstanding of what “The Silmarillion” is and how it’s pretty much a case of unreliable narrators. This work is from the Eldar POV, after all. When Tolkien writes that Eöl took Aredhel “to wife by force” is a very clear indication that he raped her, precisely because sex = marriage to the Eldar.
In both cases, Aredhel stays with Eöl (alive), bears him a child (Maeglin), but she escapes back to Gondolin when she gets the chance. The tale ends in tragedy, because Aredhel is impaled by Eöl poisoned javelin (oh, that Freudian symbolism). 
Now, what’s weird in this tale is not only because it contradicts the whole “Elves can’t cope with sexual assault and die” headcanon (I’ll spare you the on-going debate if this applies only to single vs. married Elves), but Aredhel, in spite of the rape, gets pregnant. And this is supposed to be something consensual on both parts (union of souls). Is it a case of Stockholm's Syndrome? Either way, this tale contradicts much of what’s written in the “Laws and Customs among the Eldar” chapter, because Eöl isolates Aredhel from the world and this entire marriage screams abuse and physiological and physical violence, when the mentioned chapter paints a very illldic and romanticized view of Elven marriages. Tolkien never one shies away of condemning Eöl vile and wicked actions, mind you. He’s clearly a villain and a rapist.
Speaking of the "Laws and Customs among the Eldar” chapter, Christopher Tolkien does tell us, the readers, he’s not sure [It is not easy to say] from what fictional perspective Laws and Customs among the Eldar was composed”, but he believes it’s not a part of “The Silmarillion”. But Tolkien himself was no longer alive to either confirm or deny this.
However, Christopher does write: “in this account the lives and customs of the Eldar have been considered mainly in their natural courses in days untroubled, and in accordance with their true nature unmarred. But, as has been said, the Eldar did not escape the Shadow upon Arda, that caused both misfortunes and misdeeds to afflict them.” We already know there are countless examples of Elves behaving in ways that contradict what’s written in this chapter, Christopher only confirms it. 
What this means is this chapter is meant to be interpreted as how the Elves **would** conduct themselves if they had remained in Valinor, and if Morgoth has not corrupted Arda. Meaning: this chapter might not be the best source when trying to interpret and understand the behavior of the Elves on Middle-earth (which is symbolically our of fallen sinful earth). And this is why folks have to read the introductions, Christopher's notes and Tolkien letters.
In the tale of Aredhel and Eöl, we have even more evidence against the “Eldar customs” chapter. After she escapes, Eöl chases after her, and runs into Curufin, her cousin. Eöl invokes Aredhel’s status as his wife, as means to “get her back”. And Curufins answers this: "Those who steal the daughters of the Noldor and wed them without gift or leave do not gain kinship with their kin.”
This is a very tribal and pagan way of thinking: the group (tribe) didn’t consent to the marriage, hence Eöl doesn't have any claim to Aredhel. For Curufin, Eöl has wronged the Noldor as a whole (by taking Aredhel as wife without the Noldor consent), not only Aredhel herself. This contradict the Catholic view expressed on the “Eldar customs” chapter, where marriage is a unique and eternal bond, created by two Elves having sex. Apparently, many Elven characters in the tale don’t see it that way. Because Celegorm also wanted to take Lúthien as his wife by force and coerce her father, Thingol, into an alliance, in “Beren and Lúthien”. She escaped thanks to Huan, the Hound of Valinor. These are two examples in two different stories.
And this means that everything that "Rings of Power" is doing with Galadriel and Sauron situationship is completely valid lore-wise. Tolkien didn't write it (canon), but it fits the legendarium.
Anyway, all of this is to say that it's possible, lore-wise, to have Sauron taking Galadriel to wife by force (rape) and her still wanting to join him because we see this happening with Aredhel and Eöl the Dark Elf, in "The Silmarillion" (and if we ignore all the other accounts of this tale). Not sure if this was the justification for this contrived scene, thought. 
I’m not a fan of any of this, by the way. Yes, Galadriel would never willingly bind herself to Sauron in 2x08. And and the fight was necessary story-wise because having her going from wanting to kill him to join him the next minute wouldn’t work story-wise either. Still, to me, this is an unnecessary victimization of Galadriel’s character, and once again using rape as a plot device to advance the narrative. This is goes without further comment, it's not only overdone but terrible in itself.
As for Sauron, he’s a villain on his way to become a super-villain, however, his Second Age persona is the “seducer” and “the deceiver”, so I don’t really interpret him as the “rape type”, but perhaps the writers took his creep rant from “Beren and Lúthien” as reference, when he straight-out sexualizes Lúthien, calling her a “pretty fay” and describing her body as “very white and fair”, and taunting his prisoners on how “Morgoth would possess her in his lair”, and is puzzled by “why laughs he not to think of his lord [Morgoth] crushing a maiden in his hoard.” But that was First age, full-on servant of Morgoth Sauron, not "Sauron the reformer" from the Second age, who wants to rebuild Middle-earth with "fair motives" at first, like Tolkien tells us in his letters.
Now, I have no idea how they'll handle all of this in Season 3. The marriage subtext will not be addressed by the show. I have no doubts about that, because I don’t think they have the guts to own to that.  Sauron will probably use the bound to have Galadriel deliver the Elven Three rings of power to him; that's the obvious and safest way to deal with this and upset the least amount of Tolkien fans.

Guys.... I don't feel so good..
Ugh, Clown's like slight betrayal has me on a chokehold because like, it's not even shocking but like at the same time it's why we're doubting it. Mane could be lying but at the same time what could he gain from that? A fight from Clown cuz maybe he thinks Clown cares about Kab or something?? No idea
But like I don't know half of the story because I wasn't there when like Clown and Kab first interacted and had their alliance in her first few days. Maybe Clown changed his ways. But idk, it kinda just broke my heart. Kaboodle would burn the world down for him and he wouldn't even do the same, so are we like getting Kab genuine villain arc?? Kab needs to talk to him so bad lmaoo
but here are my genuine thoughts: Killerbunnies is such a tight bond, it's unbreakable and is beyond friendship and family. But the problem is that it also has a huge power dynamic, right? Clown is great at PvP, he betrays, he leaves people behind but in turn he also gets betrayed and people don't trust him. Meanwhile Kaboodle is bad at PvP but she's good at manipulating, turning the tides but just like Clown, she sometimes betrays, leaves people behind and in return she also gets betrayed and people don't trust her and I think the craziest part about that is that's the only thing they might have in common. The WANT for companionship. But the question is, how do they show it?
Because yeah, while they have similarities in terms of that and that, Clown and Kab are very different and you can't deny that Clown has more power over Kab and that's why I think they don't see each other as equals, with Kab planning to sacrifice herself when the time comes and Clown making time for her. But you also can't deny that it's different in a good way.
I honestly think Manepear made some good points, I like to think of it as this way. Everyone has humanity in them and even those who have a lot can only express a little and people who have less can show more. You can have a lot (Good Intent) but it's like, it will have a lot of negative impact on the people if you can't show it. Kinda like Kab's analogy.
Like that's the thing with Kab too, remember that major crashout with like Zam where she's like "Yeah he cares but it's like he doesn't care enough to try. " and yes it's different for Clown cause maybe he just sucks at showing feelings but like you gotta see how it also applies to that because maybe Clown cares, but like does he care enough to try for YOU? Yes maybe he helped Kab but like Kab has done more, and yes it's not fair for Kab to expect Clown to do stuff for him and to do the same but that's the thing, Kab doesn't expect Clown to do that so I feel like Clown doesn't try to, but Clown probably doesn't expect Kab to sacrifice herself for him yet she will. It's like that thing where two characters would die for each other and it's unspoken, except this time it's one sided. I honestly don't think it counts as a betrayal and maybe it's fake but it's a huge eye opener for maybe Kab and some of the viewers cause yeah I haven't been here long enough to know all of the lore so my bad lmaoo. Like y'all gotta understand, power dynamics are a huge part in relationships.
Idk, maybe the huge problem with them is expectations, miscommunication, Kab's trust issues and Clown's inability to reassure her sometimes, like it's such a good plot for unscripted stuff cuz it feels like it's been foreshadowed by complete accident LOL

Her words left you exasperated, literally at a loss for words, and you struggled to comprehend the reason for it. There was nothing you could think of, no instance that struck you as prominent. Yet, somehow, as one of the Tsaritsa's children, you had become what any parent might refer to simply as a disappointment, their failure—the problem child who never quite ironed out their issues. You had always been faithful to her, hopelessly devoted to the archon and her will. News such as this came out of nowhere and struck you like a hammer to the chest.
Effective immediately, you are to be stripped of your title.
Two of her most mighty children were near and dear to her, and now the other had turned against you as he remains loyal to her. The Jester, who you once held in high regard, has turned against you. It is a bitter pill to swallow, for you must now sever ties with the one man you believed was truly deserving of serving the Tsaritsa. Your mother—your world—turns against you with him, before him, leading the way for him. 
In vain, you draw your bow to strike an arrow between his eyes. You have to prove your strength and power as above your position, above him, even with this weapon that disagrees with your armour, but it means nothing. Your strike is blocked, and the Tsarita's Damselette Columbina moves to detain you. You believe she would not be strong enough, but you don't itch to fight eight other Harbingers or their Director. You understand that even you have a limit, and fighting what are supposed to be the strongest people in the country is not a part of that.
Your honour is on the line, an honour which would tarnish not only Brighella's name but also have a ripple effect on your soldiers, men and women who fight for you and do not deserve the punishment that would result from their actions.
"Think carefully, Brighella." Columbina's warning is not lost on you. "You could remain as a hero or fight, and I will lure the creature you brought from the Abyss and gut him before your eyes."
You do not want that. That creature is not yet loyal to the Tsaritsa but to you, and she will convince him he can save you. He will fall into her trap and die because, for all that you have taught him, he is naïve.
You bite your lip, trying to think of a way to escape and capture him so that you can run off somewhere. He does not deserve to die, but you can't think of anything. Not when you know how thorough these people are. There is not a will, really; there is only a has. He has fallen into her trap and is at the mercy of the Damselette.
It suddenly makes an abundance of sense why your greatsword was missing this morning from where you discarded it on the floor of your chambers. Someone took it. They took it so you would appear before the Tsaritsa without your armour to carry your bow with you, taking advantage of your subordinate's absence to wander around so exposed.
You revealed your every weak point just as you were meant to because you are an arrogant creature of habit.
"What if I am to obey?" You finally ask the question you did not want to, surrendering in a way, though the bite has not left your words.
"I'll leave him be." Her answer is swift. She expected that you would eventually give in and only needed to wait for it to happen.
You shake your head, dissatisfied with only that as your compensation. "Not enough."
The smile on her face does not waver, thin and deceitful as ever, eyes hidden and closed, unseen behind the band of lace. "Mm. I can't bargain anything else." 
"Have him take my place." You lay your condition out firmly. There is only one to meet, and it is not a hard one at that. It would be easy to sway him into it, using whatever they plan to do to you as motivation. His loyalty and affection for you would make him accept it.
She ponders the situation and proposal momentarily, powerless to make the executive decision but undoubtedly keen on the thought of it all. "He believes that you are about to fall in battle to a foe and that he is going to save you."
You grit your teeth, knowing that this is her trap. Lure that creature to a place where he is vulnerable. It was not what you had expected, but it is no less the Damselette's style of acting. There is always a damsel, but perhaps she recognised that she would not suffice this time. She needed a better damsel for him to save; for that to work, it needed to be you. 
She needs your name, reputation, and your relationship with your subordinate. They meld with her lies to write a tale of tragedy, with him as the grief-stricken hero vowing to take his mentor's place.
The thought of him rushing to his death under the guise of saving you spikes your blood cold, chilling you. You're aware of her cruelty and always have been, but to experience it is different than hearing about it from her perspective. You are experiencing it from the perspective of the victim. 
His death was another factor to hold over your head—your penance—the anchor to force your compliance. Your blood boils with rage, but you cannot fight. Despite your anger and frustration, you know that lashing out will only cause further harm and pain.
There is only one thing you can do. You know you must. It's simply that you don't want to. 
But…you must. 
You must for him, that poor creature you tried to give a home to and who would never be in such a position if not for you and your ambition. 
"Then I will fall, and you will use the honour I built into him to persuade him." 
It was an honour meant to humanise him in a way, a being only able to imitate humanity. He had a mentor and something to fight for. Now you're imploring that it be used against him to burden him, but he will do well in your position.
Columbina smiles, that mocking smile like she knows the secrets of this world and more. "Would he really believe that?"
The helmet. You should use the helmet to your advantage. Your subordinate's first exposure to humanity being you, a woman in a metal helmet, seemed to last. He used to think that was what humans looked like, and he admitted as much to you as he had asked you to remove it once he could speak. Your impression left an indelible mark on him that he still treasures. Even if he were to see you in the aftermath, he would not uncover the lie.
"He has never seen my face. He would not recognise me."
Columbina accepts that readily, and her eyes open, pools of black and white visible through the cracks in the lace over her eyes. You've seen them before, inky black sclera and inhuman patterns decorating the borders of her irises, but you can't help the unsettled feeling that makes a home for itself in the pit of your stomach.

By the evening, you are stripped of your honours, titles and coat and dumped to the curb like a bag of rubbish somebody left out. There is no more fight, no more bargaining, no more arguing. Everyone has the things they want, for the most part, so you are all satisfied enough to remain amicable with each other. Without a fight, you allow the Jester to remove the fur-lined overcoat despite the cold that rushes over you once it is gone and discarded in a heap of fur and fabric on the floor with none of its previous value. 
After that comes the slow, deliberate removal of every trinket that denoted you as you. From your delusion, several gifts to your very insignia, the only thing left of you is a lone pyro vision and the clothes on your back. You've never been more thankful to not wear a standard-issue uniform lest you be made to undress and hand that over, too.
That was it. Your everything.
With each piece of regalia taken, a part of yourself disappeared until you were left an empty husk of a person, your entire reason for being for hundreds of years snatched out from under you and spat on. Pierro allowed you the pity of dressing you in your weathered armour one last time to see you off, though he admits he cannot return the sword that goes with it.
The Harbingers were supposed to be the children of the Tsaritsa, and this was your grand disowning. A show of power and influence over her closest children and, by extension, the ability to bring pain to her lesser— to her followers. It was foolish of you to ever think you were special in her eyes for having been by her side since during the Archon War. 
What did it matter when she left you amongst the rest of them?
The years you spent since you had hobbled into her life so tiny and cute were now reduced to a few personal belongings and a set of words that shattered your world to sharp and dangerous pieces that would only hurt you in your haste to reassemble them and string your life back together.
Whatever should remain of yourself is torn away as if those things never belonged to you. Your memories are tossed down the drain by time, and the crown you thought sat firmly atop your head as Snezhnaya's spoiled princess is broken by the hurry to dismantle your power in its entirety.
When you were young, your cuteness may have been your best asset: a small body with endearing quirks and the inability to walk long distances without tumbling. You required your mother for everything because you would only find danger in the harsh Snezhnayan winters. To even acquire your own food was unthinkable, so you were sheltered and provided with ample treats that you could nibble from the palm of her hand if that were what you wished. Anything to keep you happy and content.
Like a little trinket, she cradled you for as many years as it took you to grow, and once you were at an age where you no longer needed to be cradled, she made you her loyal companion, or so you had believed. You thought her affection for you was unwavering. She was the only mother you had ever known; she is the only mother you will remember for all eternity.
Although it may have been an exaggeration, watching the sun's gradual descent below the horizon, you could almost believe eternity would quickly prove to be a very real concept. You watch the sky darken in silence for a time. You roam aimlessly around the city, your presence still striking unease in the people from the threatening demeanour you learned to conduct yourself with as a Harbinger, even without your official attire. The only remnant of your former self is a helmet you consistently wore during every public appearance strapped to your hip. 
You can't help your wandering mind. Did your imitation of the Tsaritsa's actions make you weak? Attempting to nurture someone in the same manner she nurtured you? You are not a god, only the former child of one. Maybe you cannot care for him and maintain your objectivity. He may have become your Achilles' heel, as you were forewarned when the Tsaritsa less than subtly suggested you eliminate him.
You cannot live like this.
No matter how many suns you watch set, you will never come to terms with living like this. The world you once knew, which revolved around a singular governing entity and individual, has disappeared without a trace. Without a central axis to anchor it in place, your world spirals chaotically out of control, with each passing second feeling more frenzied than the last.
This purposeless existence where you have no one to create meaning for you feels just as endless as your high on the rush of power once did.
Your head is too muddled, your brain too overwhelmed by your emotions to think objectively of the faults in your time as a Harbinger. Years of your life have been spent that way, burying your thoughts beneath a heavy weight of despair. Your life is over. Even as the woodlands are forced to welcome you, they mark the end of everything, embracing you in what could be your death, as you imagine it is meant to.
The conclusion of those years greets you with nothing but a cold, detached farewell you never expected. The years you spent dutifully carrying out your mother's will should've been concluded by a grand celebration or momentous occasion to mark the end. This is not how these things are supposed to go, but you can't say it's never happened before. Usually, you'd just kill Harbingers your mother no longer approved of. You might have the better side of things, even if your career is at the worst possible end.
You almost want to call those years wasted, but that would be wrong. Without the Tsaritsa, you might've— no, would've died during the Archon War. Perhaps another god would take you in, but it is unlikely that they would have exhibited the same level of compassion and generosity as the Tsaritsa. They would not have coddled you into comfort the way she did. Then again, what if that had been your downfall? Did she ever genuinely want you to stay? Based on this…perhaps you took her kindness for granted and overstayed your welcome.
You had no right to make demands of her in your final moments as her child, acting like a spoiled brat throwing a temper tantrum. But can you be justified? Can the threat to your subordinate's life negate that? Surely a bit, but not entirely, not if her actions were in response to yours. 
Oh, even if you begged on your knees, she would not take you back now.
Why had you not done that before?
She must be disappointed that your attitude was born from her compassion, the epitome of her failures. You do not deserve to call her your mother. You took her generosity as a guarantee, thought yourself above her other children solely because you were her first, and believed you were her favourite for no reason besides arrogance.
You have failed the only being in Teyvat willing to show pity toward you.

The deepest heart of Snezhnayan forest welcomes you readily with open arms and the gnashing jaws of monsters starving for food. The forest seems to come alive with a vicious hunger for flesh. You have only your vision and bow left to aid your defence as you shrug off part of your armour to delegate it to the ties on your hip that secure your helmet.
Your delusion is gone, and your subordinates are nowhere to be found to assist you. The danger is to be braved alone for the first time in what must be forever. Despite this, marking your way with a trail of bodies is easy. It is just an inconvenience to always be on guard, but you are strangely used to it. Your life has been spent that way. Being on guard is what keeps you alive on long expeditions, at night when your lessers slept under your watch, in the depths of the Abyss where it is the only thing stopping the resilient from dropping like flies.
The cold is numbing as the air hits your face, your fingers almost wholly without a sensation of touch and even a tingle in your toes. Your vision emits warmth like a stone of fire seeping into your bones to chase the chill away. It nearly suffocates your fingers each time you press your hand to it, hoping to glean some heat from it.
You spent many missions that way, tensed and expecting violence at any moment, hardly allowing yourself to sleep, let alone relax. Despite so many things changing, you are just as high-strung as you used to be. It feels like nothing has changed in that respect, but you know everything has. You cannot hear the large crackling bonfire or the pattering of footsteps in the snow as your subordinates come to join you, their laughter and chatter and their whispers to each other.
While everything falls apart around you, you freeze as if that is the only thing keeping you together, even knowing that nothing will remain once you finally let go. Breathing is difficult, and so is thinking, but you'd rather not think at all. You want to pretend you'll look across the clearing you wander through and see that creature eagerly waiting, so safe and out of every hand that might harm him.
There is a fragile little balance of land around you that slowly crumbles away piece by piece as it encroaches upon the section that keeps you afloat without regard for where you're supposed to stand when the last of it falls from under your feet. Eventually, you'll have nothing left beneath you.
If there is a time when the only part of what was is yourself, you must protect that no matter what it does to you. You have to maintain the same rigid ways you've always stuck to. Those are the last parts of you made by your mother; those are the last parts of yourself you can trust for as long as you can't trust yourself.
The stark silence is deafening to your ears.

On the seventh night, you pass through a village on the outskirts of Snezhnaya, where you first catch wind of the news you had agreed on.
The locals informed you that they had recently halted their work for half a day in honour of your passing, believing that you had been slain in battle, though they are just as unaware as everyone else you've passed that they're talking to the person they believe to be dead. Hearing the story that the Jester spoon-fed the public to explain your disappearance makes it feel a touch more real, the consequences of your obedience stinging in a way you didn't expect. You cannot claim it to be a sick joke when it has had time to reach the smaller villages.
Even when that information would naturally spread like wildfire, the thought that it has come to be known by the nation solidifies the death of Brighella.
In a way, she really is dead.
You're the only one still standing here.
You find what can only be a wayward adventurer not far from the town, engaging a wild boar in combat, brandishing a blade at the beast as it snarls back at him and prepares to rush toward him. He faces it with the heavy hand of experience steadying his grip, ending the boar in a swift movement of his blade that matches the work of his feet to jostle him out of its path.
"Good morning," you greet him after a moment, arms folding over your chest as you watch him poke at the boar with the tip of his sword. "Strike it through the back of its neck. It'll die quickly."
"And painfully," he scoffs back, yet his foot steadies the boar nonetheless, and it is out of its misery by the final stab.
You break away from the spot that had glued you to the ground, approaching the man and his kill to assess the job as if on instinct. "Good work," you tell him without really thinking.
"You think so?" he questions. His eyes focus on you instantly, watching you inspect the boar with a curious gleam. You offer a curt nod. He stares as if waiting to be appraised in precisely the same manner you do a dead animal, weary enough not to sheath his blade. "You really think it's smart to walk around like that?" he asks after a few seconds.
"Why?" you ask, absently poking at the boar. You half expect it will spring back to life and knock the both of you flat on your asses, yet it never does.
He hesitates for the first time since you first saw him, opening his mouth to speak before reconsidering and pressing his lips into a thin line. He catches his breath. "The armour," he begins. "It..."
"It...?" You don't recall ever meeting him before, though it is not uncommon that adventurers know what you look like. You travel so much that it's hardly unusual that people catch glimpses of you, and never forget the Harbinger dressed in the old armour of the guards of Zapolyarny.
It is not unthinkable for a man used to being at odds with Fatui soldiers would recall what might be the most royal pain in his ass.
"A Harbinger was slain," he continues, gaze wandering away. "A Harbinger dressed in armour. I mean, people wear armour all the time, but that set..."
You quirk an eyebrow at such an awkward explanation. It's an accusation he doesn't dare make for its boldness, but he cannot deny it when he considers it for himself. "You recognise it?" you question.
"Something similar. From when Brighella was in Sumeru," he confirms. "I may have been a child, but I recognise it anywhere. Most people have armour custom made to fit them, but yours..."
"Someone else's," you finish for him.
That is technically true regardless. Even as Brighella, the armour was stolen. You vaguely recall the story, but you took it from the stores, assuming it belonged to a guard who no longer had use for it. It should've been the property of a grown man, but you have always accounted for the pinching and awkward proportions. You had to grow into it and didn't grow quite enough.
"You're asking if I killed her," you conclude, though that is an equally bold assumption.
He pauses, weariness in his eyes at the thought, but shakes his head. "That would be a bit presumptuous," he responds. "I just wondered if you really thought it was smart to wander around in armour that looks so much like hers."
"Perhaps not," you admit, swallow your pride to allow that much. "It might be smarter to get some clothes from a market."
"New armour wouldn't hurt," he adds. "You're travelling to...?" he trails off, briefly glancing up as if to seek your appearance for the answer. "Not the heart of Snezhnaya, I hope."
"Fontaine," you answer. "It's the first trail south."
"I'm sure you'll find both of those things there," he says. He offers a slight smile despite the circumstances, an unspoken reliving of the tension you realise lingered on past the point you expected it to.
A part of you knows that he makes that presumptuous assumption. He suspects that you have killed the reigning tyrant but says nothing, perhaps out of relief at the possibility you did. Snezhnaya finds liberation in your slaying. A weight has lifted in your absence that they are not yet allowing themselves to get used to out of fear that you might return. It's as if everyone holds their breath for the news that you resurfaced from the Abyss and were merely lost to a chasm in the world.
You know that news will never come.
Now, the armour that once protected you as a Harbinger will stand as a triumphant emblem of your hard-won victory over Brighella and the end of the Harbinger's tyrannical hold over the land. Even knowing that he is right and it is unwise to wander clad in your old armour, you can't let it go. You are glad it is still yours. Pierro granted it to you, and you didn't care to ask why when it felt as though you were watching your comrades through the eyes of your younger self five hundred years ago. Through danger, you will keep it close, treasuring it always as a tangible reminder of the sacrifices you made to reach this pivotal moment. 
You slayed Brighella. You ended the Harbinger's tyranny.
Brighella is dead.
Though there is no truth to it, you take responsibility for the Harbinger's slaying at the first gasp of a wayward adventurer recognising it. You grasp it as your singular piece of this life—your trophy. It is the first fragment of your new self.
If you didn't know better, you would think you were getting a little too far into it and starting to believe it yourself.

By the eleventh night, you find yourself situated in an inn, and the nights only carry on from there all the way up to the twenty-second night since your abrupt dismissal and, to the rest of the world, your supposed demise. The sigh of relief finally sounds, if a tad reserved. Snezhnaya collectively agrees that Brighella is dead enough to think they might have escaped her thumb, even if they aren't wholly convinced that she could really be dead.
The whispers that once revolved around Brighella's defeat now shifted to speculations regarding her successor. The question was not necessarily who, but who could possibly? Her brutal reign as a Harbinger had instilled fear in the hearts of all who crossed her path; in the minds of the people, no one else could measure up to her sheer terror-inducing presence.
Nobody knows what happened once they dared to fight Brighella until now. She was the first of the Tsaritsa's children, and she was the most combat-heavy. No one wished to cross her except for the rumoured contender for her throne, who was spoken of in hushed tones, as nobody was eager to have their reverence for whoever was bold enough to reach the wrong ears.
Your achievements find their place amongst the rumours as people say that Brighella's killer stole her armour and wears it as her trophy.
Despite the slew of gossip that its patrons indulge in, you enjoy the quaintness of this bar made and run by travellers who use it like a pitstop to rest and recuperate. It is a home to them, along with adventurers and merchants who benefit from the atmosphere. The people are strangers, often reserved and eager to keep to themselves, but have an immeasurable wealth of information that spills with a few drinks and a group of acquaintances who are, for only one night of pleasure and indulgence, their lifelong friends.
Among those friends buried in your own tankard of cheap ale, you laugh along with their jokes and entertain their questions like a test of your ability to lie and improvise in this tale you're making for yourself. If they have names, you don't know them. Brighella's death was a glorious battle but isolated to the hills where you were alone.
"Brighella was alone, and they were weakened by prior injury. I don't know what caused it." You mix a dash of the speculations in, downplaying your strength as you're unwilling to expose too much of it. "I'm not one to miss an opportunity. When would it arise again?"
One of your new acquaintances scoffs, amused but no less aware of the dangers of doing such a thing. "And make an enemy of the Fatui?" He is a new graduate of the Sumeru Akademiya who's come to make his way through Snezhnaya for a job offer. Reminds you of someone else, minus the graduating.
"They will not miss her." You are quick to answer—too quick, arguably—as it draws a sliver of attention before dipping back under the radar as a product of your confidence. "Her 'head' makes too cute a decoration on my side to pass up stealing it."
"I wouldn't dare say such a thing. Fatuus comes here sometimes." They are the words of a Snezhnayan native raised to worship the Fatui, though he is somewhat disillusioned by their crimes and cruelty, as you've learned many are.
"Let them hear it!" Your laughter is boisterous and unabashed. "They'll see the armour anyway. They probably despise her like everyone else."
Another one of your new friends, a travelling merchant from Fontaine, interjects your ravings to add only a passing comment. It was as she had done all evening, her secrets locked up tight. "She did not make herself likeable."
"She was not meant to be likeable but a fearsome warrior." Again, the Snezhnayan man rebuts the criticism against her as he had been doing all evening.
"You don't have to get so far up her ass, Brighella's not gonna crawl out of her grave and thank you for it."
"You're so vulgar."
You plant your tankard firmly on the table between the four of you, leaning over it to close the distance between you and the man. "I'm not meant to be likeable either."
Forget being only a little too into the role. You're revelling in the freedom of this new identity of yours.
Quick to disperse the tension, your graduate friend changes the topic without a hint of hesitance in his voice. "They left an underling people believe will take their place. It's a surprise to think Brighella had someone who followed them with such…devotion."
It seems they finally figured out who might take Brighella's place in the grand scheme of things, and the rumours say there is only one candidate.
The creature wearing the face of a man she brought home from the Abyss.
"It's strange but not impossible." The merchant from Fontaine again, contributing nothing you weren't all already thinking.
"Could she have had a sentimental side?"
"Who cares if she had a sentimental side?"
"Upset the attention isn't on you anymore?"
Anger crosses your face, but you stifle it as quickly as it appears. You wish their attention was off of you, really. The former you, maybe, but you nonetheless. You want to know about your subordinate. What happened to your second in command? You don't care to hear their speculation as to whether you were or were not particularly emotional with your underlings. You know the answers to all of those questions and more without their guessing games.
"Regardless of the reason, they say the underlying is much easier to swallow than she is, so maybe the position of First Harbinger will change drastically if he takes it." 
"Would he really change its purpose if he was so loyal?"
"Unintentionally, perhaps."
Gods, these people are so dull. Just by listening to them, you can tell they know nothing about the ways of the Fatui. Harbingers are not individual job positions with specific parameters. Each role is its own, and they are moulded by the person who assumes them like a character in a play, enchanting and unsettling in a horrific mix of theatrics and violence. It is what they stand for. One does not assume the role and become an actor with a script. They must improvise and act on a whim to the beat of the Tsaritsaʼs drum, their life no longer their own.
They are not whatever these ramblings and poor excuses for speculations make them out to be.
"Terribly misinformed, aren't they?" In your ear is the low voice of the Snezhnayan man holding in his laughter at the two as the scholar and the merchant go back and forth. You watch them with a sharp gaze that almost borders a glare, bored of their squabbles and misconceptions.
You glance to your left, where he has leaned closer to you. You eye the way he tilts in his seat, his hand resting on the table. "Repulsively," you respond curtly.
He has a faint glint of satisfaction in his eye as you seem to have confirmed something. "I thought you might've been from Snezhnaya." 
Your eyes narrow at his conclusion, though it is the truth. You don't trust the gleam in his eyes or the way his gaze fixes between you and the helmet secured to your hip. "So what if I am?" you question lowly.
"It was only an observation."
In the background, the main conversation continues, just as clumsy as before you had tuned it out in favour of drinking some more. "Does this mean he will also be named Brighella?"
Straightening back in his seat, the man swiftly interjected their back-and-forth responses to explain to them. "They receive a unique title upon their promotion, and nobody knows what it is until then." A simple enough concept to understand.
"In other words, anything but Brighella."
"It hasn't been long enough to know yet."
"It's strange. Nobody knows his name even now."
That would probably be because you never gave him one.
You considered it in the years you spent with him but couldn't find one you liked. His name was inhuman, not for your ears and not for your tongue, rendering it useless to you and everyone else who would hear it. The night you found him was spent crowded around a bonfire listing off every suggestion you and your subordinates could think of to no avail, as he only sat quietly by your side and said little about any of these choices, finding no familiarity in any of them. That's only natural, you suppose. 
You still haven't chosen a name for yourself that isn't Brighella, either. Your old one is well and truly forgotten, with the years eroding your memories. It had been centuries since you had been called anything else. Evidently, picking names is not your forte. 
"As far as I've heard, nobody knows what it is."
You find the mention of your subordinate has completely ruined your mood. You are grateful the creature is alive but worried the knowledge you're snooping around to find out when he will be promoted could land you in trouble. It's troubling enough to wonder if he has heard your tales through the grapevine about how you had supposedly 'killed' Brighella—his mistress and mentor—which he would not be happy about.
Though you did not fear the creature before, now that you've personally trained him to understand human combat, you're not so sure you'd want to fight him. It would be a hassle. Unlike many, you do not fear the inhumanity of the Doctor or the stone wall called the Jester. Even the cunning Damselette struggles to do more than unsettle you, but you respect that creature's raw strength and understand that no matter what you do, it doesn't matter. You are confined to a human form, and he is not.
You lied when he said he wouldn't recognise you, however. You don't actually know if he would.
You don't know the extent to which his eyes can pick out the details in your appearance that aren't physical. Had he memorised your relative build? Your height? The way you carry yourself and your mannerisms? The thought unnerves you, but so does everything else about him.
"I'm turning in for the night," you declare to the table with a knock of your cup as you slam it down.
Without regard for the ongoing conversation, you announce your intentions and abruptly shut down whatever is being said at the time without much care for it. Whatever it is, it isn't important. Your unfinished drink is left behind as you make your way to your quarters.
In retrospect, you understand their eagerness to merely cover up the circumstances of your dismissal. For a Harbinger as feared as Brighella, it is easier to halt work for a mere half-day rather than attempt to contain the resulting fallout of admitting one of their own was inadequate while simultaneously preserving their tenuous hold on power.
You drop to your bed with far too much faith in it and already regret the potent scent of alcohol on your breath that addles your mind and forces you to wander back to your betrayal. There's not much else you can call it.
Even as you try to squeeze your eyes shut and vanish the image from your tired mind, the confusion lingers against your will. You thought you were your mother's lucky charm. You had been so since the Archon War, to your knowledge, but you lost many of your fragile memories to the sands of time. Something changed while you weren't looking, and her gaze shifted from you to her goals.
Nobody won.
Nobody won...
You have always wondered what she met. You thought it was because the people were at a point of unrest you feared they wouldn't return from, but no one is left to remember the old gods now. You are instead struck by the ghost of your own blindness. You had ventured to the Abyss so many times and lived for so many years that you fell out of touch with her in a way. Even as you did everything to preserve her love for you, it disappeared.
It couldn't have happened in an instant.
You just don't know when it started or at what point it ended, both of which gnaw at your mind incessantly like a parasite that threatens to consume you whole. You dwell on what may never be answered in an attempt to understand something that cannot be understood. You have never been good at avoiding the bad habits of chasing ghosts, even if you fooled yourself into believing otherwise.
Each passing day forces you to wonder if it has anything to do with the many people who died under your command or were distorted by the Abyss during your expeditions. You struggle to imagine it has anything to do with anyone but yourself. You thought you were exactly who she wanted you to be, but perhaps you weren't. Whatever the reason, it escapes you.
You pile your armour off and leave it beside the bed with a touch more respect than you've ever had for it; your helmet carefully stands on the nightstand where you hope it does not fall and collapse back into the bed, eager to escape such vision of before.
You have no desire to remember the days when your hands were smaller, and you could barely reach the handles on the palace doors or fit your suit of armour. Those were the days you never once doubted her affection, though you feared she was pulling away. You looked into the eyes of a weathered old man and saw competition where he mourned his fallen nation as he was forced to linger in a world ruled by the very gods that had caused it to crumble.
You never understood his weakness. By then, though small, you had forgotten what it felt like to be an ant on the mountain where gods battled.

⸻ Elizabeth looked at her mother when she commented they would talk to her if they ever needed anything. ❛ I suppose so. ❜ Agreeing with her. Liz was an attentive mother, but she knew both twins would say things if there was something bothering them. They don't fit too much tantrum, in general, she feels blessed with it. ⎯ She watched her mother closely as she spoke about her uncles. The one that seemed to be her favorite at least, she could tell she loved him by how her eyes sparkled at the mention of her brother. The revelation took the younger blonde by surprise. ❛ I'm sorry for your loss. ❜ At the least, Stella was being… Transparent, admitted never mentioning her to her family members, and she was grateful for it. No pretenses. There was on question that always stayed in the back of her mind.
❛ Mother… ❜ She starts softly. ❛ Why were you ashamed of me? Was my looks? I could've said grades but I only did straight A or A+ all my life. ❜ Hence how she got her scholarship to nice universities, not only that but also because of her athleticism. The majority of her scholarship for university she got was the combo of her efforts in studying and practicing gymnastics. Liz always tried to do extra-curricular activities only to not be at home and hear her parents arguing or her father drunk with his junkie friends.
Part of her always wanted to understand what is it about her that wasn't enough for Stella back then. ⎯ The younger Aussie remained extremely irritated and heartbroken by her own father. She does miss him, but she still doesn't even want to see his face. ❛ For future reference, when you drop the twins at my place, I'm currently at Alex's. So I won't see tête-à-tête with my papa. ❜ She explained.
The other question… ❛ Apart from that, I'm not sure. I mean, I hardly left my bed ever since. Only to hang out with grandpa. ❜ So he could meet the twins, and she gets to know John better.

──the older blonde could not help but laugh a little at the comment about the twins; she may just getting to know them, but she could already tell they were quite lively, joyful, and possessed a very vivid imagination, so their thinking of the glasses as a toy wouldn’t be surprising. “well, good thing they are smart then,” she smiled, gaze drifting to the babies for a moment and then back to her daughter again. “I suppose they will let me know if they are struggling with something…” or, more like, she hoped they wouldn’t and wouldn’t just go into a crying fit and a temper tantrum that she would have no idea how to deal with —it was no lie she did not possess the tools to be a very attentive mother, even though all evidence suggested that she would do a better job at being a grandma than she did with being a mom to Liz. and aside of spending time with them and Liz, she also liked getting to know things about them, even little things, and now being given the opportunity to spend more time with them a bond, she enjoyed this conversation. when the topic shifted to her own family, however, she felt a little emotional speaking of her older brother, even if she did not show it.
“he was…kind,” a smile formed on her lips. “he was always looking out for me,” she added after a short pause. losing him had been more painful to her than her own injuries and trauma after the incident. “he protected me, gave me advice, but never tried to control me…we were actually very close. I adore him,” this time her smile was a little sad as she spoke the last words. thinking of him, there were things she would have done differently if she could turn back time, especially when it came to telling him about how her life had been back in the States. “I regret never telling him about you…” she admitted, “because we had no secrets between us, I could always tell him everything.” a barely audible sigh fell from her lips and she cleared her throat, sifted her gaze from her cup of coffee back to her daughter with a small, melancholic smile. “I think you would have loved him if you were given the chance to meet him,” a beat, “and he would have loved you, too.” and the thought bothered her a little, she had never given him the chance to be an uncle to her daughter, knowing he would have liked that and this was never going to happen now.
hearing Liz speak about Claude, Stella simply nodded in understanding; she didn’t want to make her uncomfortable by discussing him and what had happened on that evening, she would respect her wish and would drop the matter. However, she also wondered if she had spoken to Luke, if he had mentioned anything to her and she wouldn’t want to say anything at present to her daughter, but she also didn’t want her to think she intentionally withheld that from her either. “so how have you been? aside from what happened…” she opted to ask instead.
