Hi!! I'm a big fan of your work and I was just wondering how you plan out compositions?

for me, the story/concept/feeling u wanna convey is the basis for all composition! technical components like line weight, posing, coloring, etc. are all in service to "what is the image supposed to say?"

example: wanted to draw valentines-themed saiou, so i drew them in a chocolate box! ...but it was kind of unsatisfying, so i re-drew ouma and moved some bg elements to try to make a more balanced and interesting composition.

posing reflects a lot of a personality, so "how does the pose express the character's own personality/feelings towards the other?" prompts ideas for how to arrange the composition. like in this case... western valentine's theme -> if ouma had cupid''s arrow? -> needs more distance to nock and draw -> ouma perching on/pinning saihara down. that's the flavor -> then, rearrange the ribbons and treats to follow the flow...

i'll also check layout and values throughout: for example, after finishing fontaine's aq, i wanted to draw smth about furina & focalor's partnership, and focalor controlling her from the shadows... so the concept was "a dance where you can't relax from your partner's lead."

the lineart's a hot mess, but the spotlight helps divide the image, direct the focal point and ties into the aq story.

tl;dr: pose, sightline and visibility are the key traits i focus on in a draw, but the bottom line is always "story" first. hope this helps... even a little bit (':

EVENT SUMMARY:

“Say, haven’t you ever gotten tired of all the strenuous, brain-numbing labor that comes with being an NRC student? Then, say no more~.”

Night Raven College’s new student-ran event, hosted by Ashi Tamadai, the Ramshackle prefect, Niko Cimarron, a Scarabia second year, and Atlan Trein, a Pomefiore second year, introduce to you a courtyard makeover! Decorated with cheerful decorations that’ll put you in a mood to kick back and relax, this program is meant to bring the student body together, to make some happy school memories!

“Don’t forget, an important part is the fact that there’s like, no magic needed. So tell everyone you know! You don’t want to be the only one NOT going, right?!”

At this school-side staycation, students are welcome to tan on some chairs, buy a pawpsicle to enjoy in the hot, late summer sun, or even just sit and chat with friends! Anything is welcome here— A karaoke session is planned, and so is a water balloon fight! The point is to relax. No magic is needed to have fun, and it’s preferred if you didn’t use any at all. All classes are cancelled and even the teachers and staff are bound to swing by! Isn’t that so kind of the people who organized it?

EVENT RULES:

Anyone is welcome to join!

Pretty much everything can be an entry; artworks, fan made cards, drabbles, edits, etc etc. As long as it’s appropriate, does not have anything NSFW, and doesn’t have any sensitive content. It’s supposed to be a lighthearted party!

Utilizing parts of the event are highly appreciated, but defo not needed. For example, if you were to draw your character in the midst of a water balloon fight, eating a pawpsicle, etc etc. Just ideas, but no pressure!

All characters can be used for this event. Canon characters (staff, side characters like RSA, etc), and of coursies any OCs/yuus! I don’t mind any multiple entries for a canon character either. Have funsies!

If you want to interact with my characters, here’s what they’ll most likely be up to:

🌺: Since she’s the actual host, Ashi will most likely be walking around and chatting up with everyone. Open to taking pictures, hyping up the crowd, announcing when the water balloon fight and karaoke will be starting— You’ll most likely find her basically doing everything she can. She’ll be there the entire time!

🦊: As the co-host of the event, Niko will also be walking around and be there all day, additionally with the fact that he’ll be selling his pawpsicles. And advertising them. To everyone. No matter what, he’ll probably walk up to your character and every character in attempts to sell something. He’s not as hyped up as Ashi, but he’s 100% enjoying his time.

🛍️: Atlan, despite only being recruited to spread word of the day off, can be pretty easily found within the crowd at the celebration. He’s trying his best to talk, despite the fact that he’s hiding behind a wall and his oresama aura. If you were to walk up to him and start a conversation, he’d be flustered but reply excitedly.

Gold Tutorial

hiiiii i got asked for how i color gold. tbh most of the time i just blob shapes in but i can try to explain my process too <:v

(i was trying to write more b4 giving up bc my handwriting is a mess)

here is an elf ear to start with! i just paint on top of my sketch for gold but feel free to line art or do whatever is your normal process

we need to keep in mind gold is reflective! so while picking a light source keep in mind there will be light bouncing back. typically i do this by not coloring the shadows all the way to the edge, but if there are multiple sources be ready for some bounce light action too

heres some colors! the second lightest shade is the base color we'll be working with. feel free to make the gold cool or warm toned, i just usually make my gold warm toned. in theory this also works with rose gold and silver, so feel free to play around with colors!

we're gonna keep in mind the light source, which i will be using the same as the example photo roughly. again i'm really messy with gold i just slap it on on top and it usually works okay but refine the shapes if you wanna!

first shadows! i keep these towards the middle to build shape. playing with different shapes of shadows will give different form to the metal but tbh.... i build most of my form in the highlights

second shadows: i focus these usually closer to the light source, but you can also do darker near the rebound light. again, try not to color directly to the edge to keep it looking very shiny

darkest shadows! like before, but smaller. here you can also add in different colors blobbed in the shadows if you want. i find its easiest to see reflections in the 'shadowed' parts of metal. add in your character's hair color, clothing color, or even the bg color if you want!

example with my nerevar picture of the reflections: you can see the blueish-grey of his collar in the gold to give it more dimension! even if you're working with abstract shapes it can help sell the illusion with more detail.

next up is highlights which i use a blending mode for (actually every highlight in anything i draw uses it but i feel for metal it REALLY helps): Add (glow)

or at least, it's called that in CSP. in other programs it might have a different name.

first highlights i like to draw rays of light from the light source and blend the parts furthest from the light. you can curve these according to shape but tbh most of the time i just do this. or you can softly add it in very blended like the nerevar picture above for a brighter look

second highlights: i add them in around the top and bottom. keep it organic really if im being honest.

ANDDDDD UR DONE! it should hopefully look like metal. tbh i have no idea what im doing <:v

Idk if anyone's ever asked you this but how do you go about animating? i.e. what program do you use and what's your process?

I really wanna start animating but it seems like such a daunting task lol

toon boom harmony is industry standard 2d animation software so thats what i use for freelance work and more finished things like that antibodies animation (though i did the bg painting in procreate) – but totally not the ideal software for just starting out with animation lmao not to mention the fact that its a subscription :/// small sketches like that gif of bones i posted i'll sometimes tackle in procreate or procreate dreams, which are wayy more affordable and user friendly, even if theye a bit less robust.

if youre looking for a combination of robust software with the best price, blender is free and has 2d capabilities that ive messed around with a few times – its super cool, but the interface can be confusing if you've never worked in blender before and it has a bit of a steep learning curve BUT theres also always always always good ol paper and pencil, and nowadays most people own a camera and can access video editing software to stitch things together the best things to start out with are the basics, like a ball bounce animation, different weight objects falling, walk cycles – once you get an understanding of how timing works with animation, then tackling how characters move is the next step. just going into complex characters right off the bat is an easy way to get frustrated FAST lmao starting simple is always the way to go also a lot of cartoons and stuff move A Lot Less than you would think, a 10 second animation at 12 frames per second is almost never going to be 120 different individual drawings – sometimes you can just get away with a few blinks and a bit of lip sync to really sell an animation, so while animation does take a lot of time and effort try not to be too intimidated!!

MV Project 1 "Darling Dance"

*Cough* Holy freakin' moly does making an MV take so long. Before you roll off your bed, I'll say that part of the reason making the art took so long was because I have trouble drawing Marx consistently.

Here's some unused assets! Look at them, they're all salty over not making the cut.

In all seriousness though, a lot of times I don't really see a lot of editors/ MV makers getting appreciation for their efforts. And now that I've personally experienced making an MV for the first time, it's also increased my admiration to the people who dedicate their time to this! All the kudos to them.

Now, I'll go scene by scene then comment along the way! Spoilers ahead!

Verse 1

Pretty good for what it is. In the first image, you see that heart behind Magolor? I discovered the motion of it on complete accident lol. Capcut is hard to figure out..

I also really like the color palette of 2nd image. That art of Marx was the last one I did during production (aka I drew it this morning), and just look at him. He's such a bastard he's the best.

Pre Chorus 1

Mmmm yeah it sure is the pre chorus! I put a bar behind the text in the middle because I didn't want people to stare into their soulless eyes for too long. That probably worked!

1st Chorus

When I first added in the expression change, I fangirled over it a little on the first rewatch. Like, come on! They suddenly look mischievous, and the color change on the background! I know I drew it but still!

For the rest, I experimented a little with all the "Nah"s! I think it ended up well. Most of the lyric editing in this MV is completely original, so I had a couple of things to try out!

Verse 2

This song is horrifically outdated because it says Twitter instead of X!! (/sarcasm)

This scene is my second favourite. I'm really proud of the details on the tabs and the editing at the beginning! Wish I could put more images but the app only allows ten. Bummer.

Pre Chorus 2

I think it's cute, and I used it as my pfp on YouTube! That's about it though.. image limit is killing me I can't put anything here :(

...Not gonna spoil it! I like how I drew them, but there ain't anything notable. Unless you look at the last image I put right before the bridge. :)

Bridge

This is where my editing comes in freakin' clutch. Ooooooh it's so satisfying to look at. Chef's kiss. Also those Marxs (Marxes?) are really cute.

The second part of the bridge is nice as well! I tried to make the lyrics snap to the rhythm. Glad I added that tv effect in the bg too!

Chorus 3

This scene is my favourite! Wanna know why?

This sequence right here. I think I will etch it into my brain forever... I love me some snappy editing. Like a lot. Like a lot a lot!

The second part of the chorus is like the original song's MV! I loved the hearts popping in and out whoever thought of that is a genius. Putting it into the MV was a good decision!

Yes, a commission! In this modern day, can you believe it? I've yet to finish 2 more comms, I hope to finish them this year, honest to god. It's so hard to get a grip on some responsibilities, as I gotta figure stuff out appointment-wise with my driver's exams, psychologist-stuff abt my diagnosis still, and ofc, deal with the fact, that I gotta babysit my coworkers (not exaggerating, I keep being bugged on my weekends about my coworkers over some random annoying stuff they didn't wanna do under the normal work-week), and continue to study for tests and finish a presentation until next week.

^As you can tell, it's a bit stressful lately, which is why I had difficulty drawing at home, getting out of bed, to add with cramps post-work, hip- and knee pain in my bones, migraines. it all stacks up, and it doesn't help, that I lately had a spike in my ADHD seemingly acting up again. Been unable to concentrate, been getting overwhelmed, been having some EXTREME time-blindness. It's a bit hard with life lately. :")

It probably makes sense, why I was absent for a good bit. I ache a lot physically, and mentally lately and just. A. LIFE. I DO NOT LIKE IT. BUT MUST SURVIVE IT.

I again, tried something different with the lighting here, being a more direct-light source! I tried to make the lights look harsher, and I think this isn't too bad! Again, in hindsight of 2024, months later, shoulda proooobs made the shading sharper in appearance, still looks too soft, for direct-light hitting this floppy fellow. And also, added a drop-shadow for Heath near the lighting. Dear god, I wish I wouldn't make so many mistakes aaaa.

But oh well, that's what passage of time is, growing up, sucking up mistakes, trying to rid of your perfectionism.

ohhhhhh...

hmmm it is indeed coming up on a year since i did the contest. if people were interested i'd consider running another one this year!

though i would probably change things up a little bit based on last year. i simply cannot do a drawing for everyone that submits again. it was incredibly exhausting and a number of people never even acknowledged or barely acknowledged the headshot that i drew for them, which left me feeling really sad and demotivated. probably instead of doing that i would instead increase the number of final prizes at the end, perhaps by making different categories and offering a prize for each category (maybe char and/or ship-based categories, etc.)

i also ended up feeling a bit guilty last year because there was no difference in raffle entries between people who put in hours and hours of work (like literally creating a whole fangame, etc.) and people who spent like 10 minutes on something and everyone just got a single raffle entry 💦 so probably i'd try to think up some simple raffle entry system. like an extra ticket for something fully colored, an extra ticket for a BG, extra tickets for more chars, etc. unsure yet. but i feel that would be a bit more fair for people

i'd probably also just make it a fanart event rather than fanwork since almost no one did writing last year anyway LOL

anyway, those are just a few of my thoughts based on how everything went last year. if people would indeed be interested in having another contest this year, feel free to let me know and i'll think about it as we get closer to fall! (i'd probably do it around the same time period)

how long dose drawing take you?

Omg I am actually…..very embarrassingly slow LOL I get ridiculously hung up on trying to make the tiniest details perfect and I take a long time to even draw something simple 😭 I really do want to work on being more loose and quick, but as slow as I am, I do enjoy my process!

For something even simple like sketches or memey pics, I usually take an hour to a few hours. For full illustrations I usually track 15-20 hrs at LEAST, according to Procreate’s info. It’s because I sketch the basic shapes, then sketch over it again, then if it was really rough I do ANOTHER cleaner sketch on top, THEN line. But then I’ll be like “oh but this line looks off” or “should this be 2 pixels to the left or right”….and oh god once I start coloring and doing effects/bgs….that’s probably what Really gets me bc I’m so indecisive LMAO. I’m out here trying out 10 different variations of everything and testing different opacities of the overlays and constantly switching back and forth until I maybe finally decide an hour later.

I am kinda embarrassed with how slow I am compared to how long I think other artists might spend on a similar piece, but I know everyone works at their own pace and in the end, I’m usually very satisfied with my decisions and how my work comes out, so it’s worth it to me! I only wish I could be faster to be able to draw more often because I have so many ideas I wanna see come to life. It’s just that sometimes it’s hard for me to set aside the proper amount of time and/or energy bc I know it always takes a Lot. I also tend to draw in very LONG sittings because it’s a challenge to start things but once I get going, I KEEP going lmao

Nonny’s Barbershop Dilemma(A BG FANFIC)

Summary: Nonny’s hair gets too long during school activities, drawing, painting and also his favorite thing to do, read! His friend Gil wants to help him by taking him to get a haircut at the barbershop, but Nonny just couldn’t say yes. Why? Because he had Tonsurephobia, and bad experiences and memories from his childhood. How can Gil help his friend with the barbers to make him feel better?

It was a nice Saturday evening at Gil’s house. Nonny and his puppy Blossom were there as well. They were in Gil’s bedroom, with Gil playing with Bubble Puppy, and Nonny reading his book as Blossom cuddled by his side.

But as Nonny read, some loose strands of hair fell right in front of the pages. He blinked in surprise, but then had an annoyed look about it.

Nonny: Ugh! Not again. (blows the strands of hair away from his face)

Gil noticed, and wanted to help his friend out. He saw Nonny’s bag and went through to find a hairbrush.

Gil went towards Nonny, holding the hairbrush: May I?

Nonny nodded as Gil did brush his hair.

Gil the felt amazed by Nonny’s hair: Wow Nonny! Your hair is so soft! It’s softer than mine!

Nonny blushed at compliment.

Nonny: T-t-thanks Gil. It’s been getting in the way, because I’ve been neglecting it lately due to school activities and reading.

Gil: No problem buddy. (inspecting Nonny’s hair) But I hate to say it, but your hair’s in real bad condition. When did you last get it done?

Nonny didn’t know how to answer it, but said: 3 weeks or so…

Gil’s jaw dropped: 3 weeks?! But that’s way too much Nonny.

And with that, Gil picked up his cellphone and went through his contacts.

Gil:(scrolling through) Come on… where is it?!

Nonny looked with curiosity and confusion at Gil scrolling through the contacts.

Nonny: What are you looking for Gil?

Gil: You need a haircut, and I’m trying to find the number to my friends’ barbershop. BubbleTucky Barbershop.

Nonny went pale, as if he’d seen a ghost. He quickly put Gil’s hand down.

Nonny: (startled) Oh! Uhh…(sweating with stress) I appreciate the offer Gil, but I don’t think I can go. Not at all.

Gil blinked in surprise to what Nonny said.

Gil: What’s wrong buddy? Why don’t you wanna go to the barbershop?

Nonny sighed: Gil, you’re my best friend and all, and so are the others. So promise not to laugh at what I’m about to tell, which may sound silly. (tears come down from his eyes)

Gil cleaned them and held Nonny tight: Hey, you know I would never laugh at you. Please don’t cry Nonny. Tell me… what’s wrong?

Nonny sighed sadly and then explained the incident from when he was just 5, before he met Gil.

Nonny: My mom took me to this other salon, and the barber there was so rude and arrogant to me. He pulled me and dragged me to the chair, and when I cried for how hard he was, he just yelled at me to shut up. He wasn’t understanding, and it felt like I almost lost a piece of my scalp! (more tears come down as he cries) Mom took me to the doctor, and I was diagnosed with…

Gil:(worried and scared) With what?!

Nonny: (cried) Tonsurephobia! The fear of getting a haircut! (cries in breakdown) That’s why it sounded ridiculous! I’m scared of barbershops, and I don’t like getting haircuts. 

Gil gasped in horror: Nonny, I’m surprised. (gets down) I’m so sorry that happened to you buddy. You didn’t deserve that at all. But my barber friends are super nice, and understanding.

Nonny looked down, he didn’t want to go to the barbershop. 

Nonny: N-no thanks Gil. And besides, I’ve also been having bad dreams and nightmares about barbers. I can’t even sleep well. And, there’s something else I’ve been hiding…

Gil: What is it?

Nonny cried more, he couldn’t speak. He just sobbed: I’m getting bullied by Crystal, Emily, and Kane! But Emily has been the worst these days! She pulls my hair, she calls me names, mocks me, cuts my hair sometimes in bad looks, and she says that I belong with freaks, and that she calls me carrot boy because my hair is orange! (hands in eyes crying)

Gil was horrified as his heart sank hearing all this, and also noticing all the bruises and scars Nonny had in his arms, tail and face.

Gil: (hugs Nonny and holds his hand) Oh Nonny, I’m really sorry that happened to you. You never deserved it. And I know why you didn’t wanna tell me. It was because you didn’t want to cause more problems. But you told your mom right?

Nonny nodded: I did tell her. And we tried telling someone, but they don’t know what to do. (looks at his hair, sigh) Why can’t we go see Miss Jenny though? I’m used to her cutting my hair.

Gil: You know she’s sick and the salon is closed, so please, please give my friends at the barbershop a chance? 

Nonny hesitated until Gil did one thing that could make him agree.

Gil:(closed his eyes for a moment, then opens them to be puppy eyes) Please, for your bestest friend in the whole world?

Nonny couldn’t resist, and reluctantly agreed with a shy nod: Alright I’ll go. But it doesn’t mean I’ll like it.

Gil:Yes! You won’t regret this. (picks up the phone and looks for the number)

He finally found the number and called to the barbershop.

At the barbershop, is Kayden and Erica, boyfriend and girlfriend who work there.

Kayden sat down feeling tired: Phew! What a day. We’d better close now babe.

Erica: (yawn) Agreed. Thank goodness we don’t have anyone tomorrow.

Just then, the phone rang, and Erica answered it.

Erica: BubbleTucky Barbershop. We handle any kind of hair! How can we help?

Gil: Hi Erica!

Erica’s eyes widened in joy.

Kayden: Who is it? 

Erica: Gil! It’s so sweet to hear you again!

Gil: Yeah same here! Listen, I could really use your help. It’s for my friend Nonny.

Erica listened attentively, but wanted Kayden to listen.

Erica: Is it okay if I put it on speaker so Kayden can hear as well?

Gil: Sure!

Erica put her phone on speaker: Okay it’s on speaker.

Kayden: Hey Gil! Good to hear you!

Kayden ruffled Gil’s hair playfully.

Gil:(giggles) Hi Kayden.

Erica: So, you wanna tell us the situation about your friend?

Gil: Oh, right! He needs a haircut.

Kayden: Of course!

Gil: But, he kinda has a fear for barbershops due to a past experience from his childhood,bad memories,and even nightmares.

Erica gasped. And Kayden was shocked. Their eyes widened with fear as they exchanged worried glances.

Erica: Oh dear! That sounds terrible!

Kayden: That really is bad. But don’t worry, we’ll make him feel comfortable and make this a friendly and fun experience for him.

Gil smiled,his eyes widened with joy and twinkle.

Gil: Really?! Oh thanks so much! Well, when can I bring him?

Erica: You can bring him in tomorrow evening at 3:00. We’ll get ready before you get here tomorrow.

Gil: Great! Thank you so much!

Gil hung up and turned to Nonny.

Gil: Nonny, my friends said that that they can cut your hair tomorrow at 3:00pm. Isn’t it great?

Nonny just looked at him, but kinda put a fake smile.

Nonny: Yeah. I guess that’s good.

Gil was worried about his friend. He knew he was faking a smile, trying to hide how he really felt. He then saw tears come down his eyes.

Gil: Hey, look at me.

Nonny looked at him: What?

Gil: Don’t fake that smile, I know you’re upset. Nonny, don’t let fear get control of you.

Nonny sighed and agreed to go to the barbershop. Still, fears kept getting and growing in him.

That night, Nonny started having nightmares of the incident, and he started crying, and his crying caused his mom to come in.

Naomi: Baby, what’s wrong?

Nonny:(sobs hard,hugging his mom) Mom, I don’t wanna go to the barbershop! I’m too scared. Please don’t make me go there!(sobs) I don’t want a haircut! Please!(sobs on his mom’s chest)

Nonny cried almost all night. Naomi comforted him.

Naomi: Shh, shh, it’s okay sweetie. Mommy’s here. But remember, Gil will be by your side, and his friends are gonna be nice. And who knows? You might like how it’d turn out.

Nonny felt uneasy, and more tears came down: N-no please. I don’t want a haircut! I don’t want it!(hesitating and hugging his mom tightly taking her arms.

Nonny really didn’t wanna go. This makes his mom’s heart shatter.

Naomi:Sweetie, try to get some sleep. We’ll see tomorrow morning how you feel.

Nonny tried sleeping that night, but he kept moving around and tossing himself around until he could get some shut eye. But he still felt scared.

Nonny thought to himself: Will going there be that good like Gil said? What if they cut it too short, or what if they don’t like me?! What if, what if… what if it goes like last time?!

The next day: The day of the appointment.

Gil came to pick up Nonny for his haircut at the barbershop.

Nonny was in his room, he couldn’t sleep a wink. His eyes were all red and puffy from no sleep. 

When his mom entered his room, she saw his condition.

Naomi: Oh baby. I’m guessing you didn’t have goodnight’s sleep.

Nonny shook his head. He felt more depression come down and anxiety rise.

Nonny: Mom, do I really need to go? 

Just then, Gil entered: Hey guys!(looks at Nonny and his smile fades) Oh buddy, you don’t look that great. I’m guessing that he had a bad night Miss Quinn.

Naomi sadly nodded: I’m afraid so. (looks at Nonny, and sits beside him) Sweetheart, you don’t have to go. No one is forcing you to go.

But Nonny tried getting up: No, I’ll go. But it’s only because I don’t want my hair to be in my eyes.

Naomi and Gil exchanged concerned looks as they left Nonny’s room. Nonny was afraid of barbershops, haircut traumas, but he didn’t want his hair to get in the way anymore of his activities, and especially reading.

After Nonny got ready:

Gil and Nonny were on their way to the barbershop, and for some reason, Nonny was wearing a hoodie, in a hot day.

Gil couldn’t help but feel curious: Uh Nonny, why are you wearing that hoodie on a hot day? You’re gonna sweat in that.

Nonny sighed: I know I’m gonna sweat. But I don’t want to let anyone see my hair until we get there. It’s a literal mess. I couldn’t even brush it well enough this morning.

Gil: It’s okay. Erica will probably do something to make it look swimsational! I know that 100%!

Nonny was able to put a small smile, but inside, his heart raced with tremors.

Arriving at the barbershop, Gil opened the door and Nonny walked in first. Nonny felt his hands shaking and his eyes twitch. But the barbershop had a nice scent, and the environment seemed friendly.

Gil then shouted: Kayden! Erica! We’re here!

Nonny covered his ears and Gil noticed.

Gil: Oops.(embarrassed chuckle) Sorry Nonny. Didn’t mean to shout.

Nonny: Seriously? Don’t forget about my autism. Why do I feel like I’m gonna regret coming here?

Gil: Oh come on,(hitting him playfully on his shoulder)you’re gonna like them!

Just then, Kayden came in and hugged Gil. This made Nonny shrink back slowly behind Gil.

Kayden: Sup Gil! Great seeing you. (looks at Nonny) Ah, and you must be Nonny. (extends his hand out) Nice to meet you! Gil told me about you.

Nonny extended his hand and shook Kayden’s hand, but hid it back, looking down.

Kayden lifts Nonny’s head slowly: Hey, don’t be scared. I’m friendly. I don’t bite.

Nonny looks at Kayden, but still can’t smile. Just then, Erica walked in with another friend of her and Kayden’s.

Nonny looked at him. The other barber was a young man with black hair, with a turquoise fade. His tail was black with a dark turquoise zigzag pattern. He wore a black leather jacket with light turquoise music notes, blue headphones, glasses of a hippies, and he also had a dull teal beanie.

Erica: I think I have all the tools I need…(sees Gil, and squeals) Gil! (swims to him and hugs him) Great to see you!

Gil chuckled as Erica hugged him tightly into a bear hug.

Gil: Great seeing you to Erica! (looking at Nonny)Oh! Erica, this is Nonny.

Erica looked at Nonny, and her eyes turned into hearts of how cute he looked.

Erica: Hi Nonny! (kneels down) Oh you’re so cute! And I heard about this being your first time at a barbershop.

Nonny: Y-yeah. I-i-it is my first time. And… I’m really scared. I just have uncomfortable feelings when it’s a different place. And I just don’t like getting haircuts.

Erica: I see. It’s okay. (holds Nonny’s hand) Look at me sweetie.

Nonny looked at Erica, his freckles were seen when he blushed a bit.

Erica: Oh your freckles make you so sweet! You’re probably just the cutest and sweetest boy I’ll be styling.

Devon added: Yep. He’s a cute one for sure. Hi Nonny. My name’s Devon.

Nonny was able to stutter a shy hello to him with a small wave.

Erica: Do you mind taking off your hood to see what I’m working with sweet pea?

Nonny hesitated, but sadly pulled down his hood, revealing his bad bird nest and tangles.

Erica: (examining Nonny’s hair)  Your hair is a lovely color. Although, it seems in real bad condition and shape. 

Kayden: She’s right. I don’t wanna make it sound harsh, but it’s badly tangled. And it looks like a bird made it’s home there.

Devon then looked at Nonny’s ends and lifted a small strand.

Devon: And a bad case of split, fuzzy dead ends at 3 o clock here team.

Nonny felt embarrassed, and covered his eyes. The trio exchanged concerned glances at each other, realizing they may have made Nonny feel worse.

Erica: Oh pumpkin, we’re sorry. We didn’t mean to say those things.

Nonny:(softly) I-it’s okay. It’s my own fault. I’ve been neglecting my own hair and haven’t been paying much attention to it. Now I look like a walking tree with a bird nest. (tears down his eyes)

Devon gave him a tissue: Here.

Nonny:(takes the tissue and cleans his tears) Thank you Devon.

Erica: Well sweetheart, would you like to take a seat so we can get started?

Nonny looked at the barber chair Erica pointed towards, but his heart raced with fear and terrors. Bad memories kept returning.

Nonny: (shaking his head with fear) N-no thank you. I don’t think I can do it.

He clinged himself to Gil’s arm, and took his hand tightly.

Kayden then patted his shoulder softly: Hey, it’s okay. My girlfriend will take great care of you. So will me and Devon. You think you can trust us?

Nonny hesitated even more, but then nodded sadly and worriedly.

Erica: Great. Follow me please.

Nonny followed Erica to her station, and sat down in the chair.

Nonny had some tears come down his cheeks. His anxiety rose more, with some depression. He even started to sweat a bit due to the hoodie.

Erica noticed and grabbed a stool to sit beside him, comforting him.

Erica: (soothing) It’s okay, I’m not gonna hurt you honey. I just wanna help you. I want this to be a fun experience for you. Do you wanna take off your hoodie so you feel more comfortable? 

Nonny: O-okay. Go ahead.

He handed Erica his hoodie over and she placed it near them: There. It’s right there for comfort.

Erica smiled softly and grabbed a cape. She placed it around Nonny’s shoulders, buttoned it in the back, and made sure it didn’t pull or tug Nonny.

Erica: There. Now, let’s start by wetting your hair.

Just before she could, Kayden said: Hang on babe, we need some before photos of our new client. So he then can see the final result.

But right before Kayden could take some pictures, Nonny hid his face with his hands, shaking in fear of a photo. 

Devon stopped them: Hang on team, I think he doesn’t want one. We shouldn’t do it if he wants to.

Erica nodded: You’re right.

Kayden put his phone away: Sorry Nonny. I didn’t mean to upset you.

Nonny looked up, shyly.

Gil: Sorry guys. I should’ve mentioned that Nonny doesn’t like having his picture taken much.

Erica smiled: It’s alright Gil. We didn’t know. But, now we can start wetting his hair down.

Erica picked up a spray bottle sprayed some water to his hair. Nonny flinched at how cold the water was.

Nonny: C-cold!

Erica: It’s okay sweetie. I didn’t mean to startle you, but I just need to get it dampened well to make it easier for me to cut. Barbers do that sometimes.

Nonny tried staying calm as Erica kept spraying his hair with water. She went as slowly as possible to keep him comfortable.

She then declared: There. All wet, now to comb it out.

She combed out Nonny’s hair, but he winced as Erica hit some tangles.

Erica quickly noticed: Oh dear! I’m so sorry Nonny! Didn’t mean to hurt you.

Nonny blushed in embarrassment: It’s okay. My hair is a mess, so I expected that it’d be tangled.

Kayden then gave Erica a spray bottle: Here babe. Thought you’d be detangling this mane.

Erica took the detangling spray: Thanks babe!(kisses Kayden on the cheek)

Erica sprayed some detangling spray onto Nonny’s hair and passed her comb.

Erica: There you go. No more pain.

Nonny sighed in relief, and was able to smile a bit, and blushed.

Erica noticed and cooed: Oh you’re such a dear and so adorable when you smile and blush! And it shows more cuteness with your freckles.

She turned to Kayden and Devon saying: He might just be the cutest boy ever! I mean, freckles just like me! #frecklesforever!

Kayden and Devon had to agree. Nonny was darn cute and adorable.

Next, was time for the actual haircut to begin. Erica picked up her scissors, and Nonny’s anxiety grew more as the scissors came near. His smile faded.

Erica quickly noticed and said: It’s okay. Nothing to be afraid about. I’m just gonna do a simple trim and we’ll see where it’ll go from there. That sound good?

Nonny hesitated for a moment, but he shyly nodded.

Devon then came up and told Nonny: Tell you what, if you don’t like how it looks, Erica can always fix it. Sound okay?

Nonny looked at Erica for reassurance.

Erica: Yeah, I can always fix it if you don’t like how it looks.

Nonny hesitated, but then nodded.

Erica then stared trimming some of Nonny’s hair. The first snips didn’t make him flinch, but he felt tickled, Erica kept him as comfortable as possible and went slowly.

Nonny watched with hesitation as strands of hair floated onto the floor. Some hairs even drifter on his shoulders

Erica then had an idea.

Erica: Hey Nonny, is it okay for you to take some deep breaths for me? It helps when you feel that way during a haircut. And I can put some soft music to make you feel relaxed.

Nonny: (sigh) Y-yeah. Sure. I can do that.

Erica smiled. She picked up her phone, and put a soft calming playlist on Spotify.

Erica: There you go. Now let’s keep cutting your hair.

She loves to the front and trimmed his bangs. With that, more hairs drifted to the floor, even on the cape. Nonny tried staying calm and relaxed.

Erica looked at Nonny’s eyes: Wow, your eyes are a lovely shade of green. They remind me of emeralds!

Nonny smiled and blushed: Thank you.

Nonny took deep breaths for Erica as she cut his hair. And before he knew, she declared:

Erica: There! All nice and trimmed.

Nonny looked in the mirror to see his hair nicely trimmed.

Erica: This style is called the piece-y haircut. It goes perfect with your face shape.(picks up a hand mirror for him to see the back) You like it?

Nonny smiled and nodded softly: It’s actually really nice. 

Erica: I’m glad to hear it. But, we’re not down yet. Time for a little surprise.

Nonny: A surprise? Oh. I-I don’t like surprises that much. 

Erica smiled and put a hand on his shoulder:Trust me,you’re gonna like this one.

Now, close your eyes for me.

Nonny hesitated and closed his eyes. Erica looked at Kayden and Devon, signaled them to got to her.

Kayden and Devon went up to her with curiosity.

Kayden: What’s going on babe?

Devon: Yeah. Is everything okay?

Erica:Yeah! Everything is okay. I just need both of you to help me with this special surprise.

She then whispered her plan to them. Gil wanted to know, so Erica whispered her plan to Gil.

Erica: Don’t tell Nonny. (wink, and giggle)

Gil winked back: I won’t. My lips are sealed.(giggles)

Erica then picked up all the tools she needed for the “surprise”.

The tools were the following: 

-Curling Iron  

-Curlers

 -Hairdryer

-Round Hair Brush 

-Paint Brush and a paint palette

 -Hairspray

-Wavy cream 

And hair serum

First, Erica applied the wavy cream, and hair serum onto Nonny’s hair.She then picked up curlers to place in front of Nonny’s bangs.

Nonny felt them, he tried to take a peek, but Erica playfully covered his eyes saying: No peeking. You don’t wanna ruin the surprise.

Nonny closed his eyes again.He heard the hairdryer doing some work as he also felt his hair being brushed. He then suddenly felt some combing through his hair.

Kayden then approached with the curling iron.

Kayden: Okay, uh, in the back right?

Erica nodded: Yep. 

Kayden carefully curled the back of Nonny’s hair to create nice loose curls. Meanwhile, Devon used the paintbrush and added some light orange streaks to make it look neat.

Finally, Erica combed them to make the curls softer and messier, and she added some hairspray for a shiny touch. She then took off the cape for  Nonny and cleaned him quickly with a small brush.

Erica: Okay sweetheart, you can open your eyes now.

Nonny slowly opened his eyes and he gasped.

His hair was now styled nicely with soft wavy bangs and curls. He actually looked like a K-pop idol.

Nonny passed his fingers thoroughly, and smiled: I-I love it. It’s different to what I’m used to, but this is really nice!

Erica beamed with pride: I’m so glad you like it. You look handsome.

Gil swam and hugged Nonny.

Gil: See Nonny? I told you they’d help you out! You look like a merprince. Or that guy from your favorite boy band. What was it again?! I know it’s Korean!

Devon: You mean BTS? He does look like that one guys with the 3 dogs and cat? What his name again?

Erica: You mean V? Oh he is so cute! (looks at Nonny)

Erica then takes out her phone to find a picture of V from BTS, and compares them.

Kayden: Okay, that says it. You look like V from BTS.

Nonny smiled at those compliments and made a small laugh.

Nonny: Thank you so much for this. I actually felt really safe around you three.

The barber trio smiled with delight and pride.

With that, Gil and Nonny left the barbershop with smiles, and Nonny still had his fear of other hair cutting places, but his new friends made him feel better.

He showed his mom and his mom smiled.

Naomi: Oh honey, you look so handsome and wonderful! Gil told me you were brave. I’m so proud of you.

Nonny: You really like it?

Naomi brushed his hair: Honey, I love it! It’s perfect! You should be proud of yourself!

His mom hugged him and Nonny felt happy about how it came out, fears slowly disappearing.

Devon is 19, making him the youngest of the group. He is mistaken for an emo, but he’s actually really kind and mature. But he is a bit clumsy, accident prone and a goofball. His favorite color is black, and his style is an artsy “Emo” style.

Erica is the oldest, 21 years old. She’s a barber at BubbleTucky Barbershop, but Kayden sometimes teases her for being short. She’s shy, understanding, kind, caring, an animal lover, smart, gentle, and patient. Her favorite color is teal, and her style is an artsy style. Kayden is her boyfriend.

Kayden is Erica’s boyfriend, he is 20 years old, but likes to tease his girlfriend since he’s taller. He’s a music lover and ver passionate about styling hair, cause he, Erica and Devon are barbers. His favorite color is green and his style is a casual exotic style.

They are all friends with Miss Jenny.

The Barber Trio also have pets.

Erica has two bunnies, Gigi and Becky.

Kayden has 2 dogs, a German shepherd named Jet, and a Brussels Griffon named Eevie.Devon has a cat and dog. His cat’s name is Zara and his Husky’s name is Comet.

What was Nonny’s nightmare you may be asking? This is what it’s like, and better get a plushie and hug yourself, cause it’s kinda scary.😱 

Mine is a bit darker.You all better take hands, and not scream.

So Nonny wakes up in a dark room, not knowing where he was. He tried getting up, but he couldn’t. He looked down to see that his arms, and his tail were strapped and tied to a barber chair! Soon, a dark figure holding big scissors goes near him, revealing himself as an evil barber, and makes Nonny scream! Nonny scream as loud as he could, trying to call for help, but the barber covers his mouth,so he wouldn’t speak more, and cuts a giant chunk of his hair off!😰😰😰😰😰 Nonny cried as the barber kept, and his muffled cries made him pass out.😰

Me when I wrote this story: When I wrote this story, I always saw that Nonny would be a character with more sensitivity toward haircuts, because people with autism don’t like changes a lot. But if you talk about this with someone and share it, you can see that change can be good and helps you more. But I wrote this because I felt like I wanted my version of Nonny to have something that triggers haircuts, which is why I gave him Tonsurephobia. Tonsurephobia is the fear of getting a haircut, and tonsure is Greek for “to cut” which makes a lot of sense because that’s part of getting a haircut, cutting hair!

It's a very special girl's birthday!!!! April 1st is Cere's birthday!!! (Lei's best girl 😤😤😤)

So of course, I had to try to draw her as cute as possible to celebrate! It's not very good but I even tried drawing a hand... that's how you know I really tried this time LOL . Her hairstyle changes slightly every time I draw her but I think I've more or less settled on the bang style I'm going for with her.

Did you notice that there's a theme going on for the birthday art I've been drawing? 👀 Lei's friends are all wearing white turtleneck shirts and Lei's children are wearing black turtlenecks.

You will see the twin's birthday art in May as I've already drawn Ceres (M)'s birthday art in January... one of the hottest anime boy pics I've ever drawn frfr

Of Lei's friends... in 2024 I drew Vail and now Ceres so there's one more mysterious (?) friend to draw who will appear in August 👀 I already drew Lei and Elise in 2023 but I'll redraw similar outfits for 2024 heheh so wait until then >:3

There's another favourite I want to draw in June but they're not really a Lei close friend... so I wonder how I'll do the bday art for that char? 🤔 There's also bday art I wanna draw for someone in Oct... and since I missed it last year another in Dec 😭 Too many things I want to draw so little time.

So since Azul always get bullied as a kid because of his body size there was a time he happen to get lost he happens to find a mer jellyfish around and decides to hijack him and make a deal forces with him to bring him back to his school, they somehow got along swimmingly and often met until Azul started latching on to him and sometimes munching on Cyanide.

"Eh-...umm sure i guess and Zuulll- please stop trying to eat meeee"

Cyanide being a sweet little (quite idiotic) jellyfish, adored and a huge softy for little Azul as soon as they met although he's not very fond of Azul constantly trying to eat him. He being 6 years older than Azul officially somehow became Azul's older brother figure, who babies him SOO much, Azul's ride to anywhere and everywhere he wanna go to, and protector whenever someone would try to bully the baby and tease him. "Zul's just a cutie, this is why you get teased so much"

"Cya-nii!!! STOP IM NOT A CUTIE!!!"

"Eh, but you are my little Azul-chan! Nononoo!- ok ok you're not cute you're cool so please stop eating meee-"

And even when Azul is already at NRC Cyanide would visit and write to him as often as he could! He continues to support him even when Azul often gaslights him to buy tons of the stuff he's selling and all that and this, he still cares and cherishes him which is why Azul treasures him so much aswell but of course his pride stops him from admitting it lol^^

Mary drawing “log” thing because I love talking and this is my blog and I can do whatever I want forever.

The initial sketch of her with the TV + her room surroundings + what happened when I had a change of heart in the middle of coloring and decided to change the left side of the background. And then the lineart for her only, cause I just didn’t wanna do it for anything else. It's the initial one b4 I experienced mental collapse pocket edition and changed almost the entire left side of it.

Then colored her in which was an entire travesty cause I suckkkk at picking colors + drawing in the Liquids which was also hard but only cause I couldn’t get her sweat to look the way I wanted it to.

Then I just started coloring in some of the stuff in the bg which at a glance doesn’t look THAT complicated but I can literally overthink anything and turn a 30 minute task into a 5 hr travesty.

I really don't think I'm like, HORRIBLE at this and I do have a lot of fun!! But it is frustrating to change things so often because of my own indecisiveness which is 100000% my fault, and knowing that makes it even worse.

I know I should just like, plan ahead even just a bit more so I don't end up changing my mind ten billion times but I just can't seem to do it, like my brain doesn't let me if that makes sense? I go "I wanna draw something!" and take it from there because I can almost NEVER seem to be able to come up w/ anything if I try to think seriously about it. GRRRRRR

Hello! I was wondering if you could a small tutorial on how you render your pieces?? They’re all super pretty btw!! I love your art :D!!

Ahh thank you sm!! <3 0: i’m not very good at explaining my process, and it changes depending on what I’m drawing as well, but I’ll try my best to explain it!

imma use the choso panel redraw since it’s a pretty simple portrait (done in Procreate, but most of this can be applied to CSP too)

once i’ve got a decently refined sketch, i fill in a basic starting skin colour for the character. i start some shading once i have a basic idea of where i want lighting. colour-wise, i usually go a bit darker & warmer for the first pass. (i use a brush that’s a basic airbrush settings but i replace the shape source with a reuleaux triangle) besides where shadows will fall, ill also focus on making the colour more dense on the ears, fingers, around the eyes, and sometimes the blush area. (also let it be known i use Liquify a lot, and constantly flip my canvas. as you render you’ll often start noticing lil adjustments that need to be done)

ill build up passes of colour, going darker & more saturated as i do. as the colours darken, they’ll be in the more receded/hidden areas of the face (like under brows, under chin, inner ear, unless the lighting calls for otherwise) in this case though, he’s also kinda beat up, so i added more colour under the eyes/on the cheekbones to add to the bruise vibes

for the nose/brow/shoulder highlights, i made a new layer & set it to Add. it’s a handy way to get a highlight colour and brighten your hot spots for lighting. this is usually when ill mess with the sketch/linework, sometimes i switch the layer mode to Multiply if i know i want to fully paint over it. in this case i think i just Alpha Locked the layer and painted in the hair/eyeliner since i wanted them darker. once the linework is thoroughly fukt with, i make a new layer and start painting over. usually involves a lot of colour picking & making some adjustments, playing around with levels of colour. I also swap between the reuleaux and a funky dense rectangle thing for rendering, sometimes little sketch pens for smaller details too.

(technically the blue-tinge reflective lighting wasn’t very accurate for the bg/scene colour i chose, but i got carried away and didn’t wanna change it lol)

hair rendering is fun sometimesssss. i make a new layer, choose a slightly brighter colour, and messily block in where i want the highlights. idk how else to explain it besides like, think about using H-adjacent shapes when you’re erasing/refining the highlights. for the last step, i make a new layer, set it to Add, and paint inside the highlights for the sharper look.

When it’s getting to a place i kinda like, (added some blood/cuts on this one before moving on) ill usually start messing with some overlay effects. this usually involves picking a random colour, filling in a new layer, and seeing how it lays over the piece. depending on the vibe im going for it can change a lot, but i find myself usually liking Exclusion & Subtract a lot. (sometimes ill throw a Noise + Overlay layer on top as well, but didn’t for this piece)

it’s not my most thoroughly rendered portrait but it’s one i got a decent amount of wip screenshots for.. my style in general is still a wip, and i change it up a bit every time. i encourage experimentation always!!! it’s helped me a lot. i’ll see about making a more thorough tutorial for a properly rendered piece soon too!
