So a big plot point over a few chapters is prom (which meant I spent a lot of time frantically googling WHEN THE HELL IS PROM IN AMERICA). Basically, Alex can't go to prom without causing huge waves at home (because one of the people selling tickets threatens to out him to his entire church if he brings a boy), so they decide to hold their own prom, because fuck that lady.

And basically everyone rallies to give Alex the Best Gayest Sparkliest Prom Ever because he admitted he was really looking forward to it now that he's with Willie.

And Victoria was like: excuse me is nobody going to take this young man shopping???

“Okay,” she said, clapping her hands together. “I want you to try something. I want you to think about your perfect prom experience.” He looked kind of suspicious, but didn’t argue. “There’s lights everywhere. You’re there with Willie, your favourite song is playing, there’s a perfect spot on the dance floor open for the two of you.” Alex’ face looked a little dreamy, and for a moment, she hoped that this prom would be everything he wanted it to be. His friends were clearly all invested in making it so, and she was more than willing to help with that. “What are you wearing?” she asked. “Something lightweight,” he said, immediately. “Not heavy and stuffy like the one I had to wear to Faith’s wedding. Something that breathes, and I can dance in, and that’s colourful and- and gay.” He looked a little startled at saying that last part out loud, but Victoria just smiled. That’s what she wanted to hear.

I believe Tia is also Benjamin's cousin (I think, could be wrong, but vaguely remember that).

I think the answer is a lot, and a lot certainly try, and probably most of them fail and end up eating said relative because they didn't have the control.

From what it sounds like/the few number of vampires we see with siblings and relatives turned, the few number of vampires period, while I'm sure there are many attempts they usually don't work out.

(If you think about it, it makes sense to want to go back and turn someone you know very well and love versus turning some rando who you think looks hot. The latter happens all the time too, I'm sure, but people trying to turn their relatives doesn't shock me.)

Whenever Julie needed to find her mother for anything, she knew there were three places she should look: the kitchen, the studio, and the garden. Today, the garden was the winner.

"Hey mija," Rose greeted her, swiping at her brow, uncaring that it left a streak of dirt behind. "What's up?"

"I was wondering if you could bring me and Flynn to the movies tonight?"

"It's Sunday, so you have school tomorrow. I don't think so baby girl."

"We'd be out by ten!" Julie argued.

Rose sighed-she never liked being the mean parent, much preferring to be the cool, nice one. But Ray was at Carlos' game, and she didn't have it in her to summon Victoria for back up. "Julie, I said no. You two can go Friday night if you want, have a sleepover afterwards and everything. Just not on a school night, okay?"

"Fine," Julie grumbled, rolling her eyes.

Rose fully expected her to stalk back into the house-typical teenaged behaviour-it is what Rose herself would have done at Julie's age. But instead Julie knelt beside her, pulling a weed out from amongst the cilantro.

"You missed one."

"Thanks. You want to help? Would go a lot faster with four hands."

"What are you doing besides weeding?"

Rose nodded to a few pots off to the side. "I want to put those sunflowers under the kitchen window, so I need to move the rhododendron first."

Julie nodded, gathering her hair back and grabbing gloves, helping her pull the rest of the weeds before they moved on.

It was quiet work at first, which Rose got, figuring Julie was still a little peeved about the whole movies thig. She'd talk when she was ready.

"Why sunflowers?"

Rose shrugged. "I like them? They're bright and cheery, easy to look after. Plus their your papi's favourite."

"I always figured he loved roses best," Julie snarked, which made her mother snort.

"He used that line on me when we were courting, but in the end-turns out he likes sunflowers more. But they pair better with dahlias anyways," Rose replied.

"Why are dahlias your favourites?" Julie asked, carefully uprooting the bush she was working on.

"They're pretty for one," Rose stated, sitting back to take a break as the space they needed was cleared. "They also mean inner strength-something a girl like me needed growing up in San Juan with a mother like mine. They remind you to be kind even when others are not, and represent devotion-something I had plenty of, even if it was towards music and men my family disapproved of."

"They like papi," Julie remarked.

"They like him now, yes," Rose replied. "When we were both struggling art students living in sin here in LA, not so much."

"Did his parents like you?" Julie asked. She didn't know much about her paternal grandparents, never having met them. She assumed they had passed, but it was still odd that they were never mentioned or had any pictures around the house.

"They never met me," Rose replied. "They disowned your father before we even met. But... I think that's his story to tell you, when he's ready."

"So... he has no family?"

"Of course not! You, and me, and Carlos, heck even your tia, we're his family!" Rose insisted. "Plus the Petal Pushers, and Trevor, and all his friends. Blood doesn't make family mija, love does."

"I like that," Julie stated.

"I thought you might," Rose replied. "Now let's get these sunflowers planted, and then we can have a nice glass of lemonade before we start on supper. How do you feel about enchiladas?"

"Very much in favour of."

Rose grinned, stretching as she stood to grab the pots, Julie smiling as she popped up much faster, but Rose could only shake her head at her daughter's cheek-she got it from her after all.

Julie was hers-something she nurtured and helped bloom-just like her garden. And even though she could see that she was starting to grow beyond her, Rose couldn't wait to see how she blossomed as she did.

For the mood board game thing. This probably is hyper specific but college dorm blanket fort juke please. Hahaha. You seem like you would know about such things 😜

holy wow...let's not look at the date you sent this to me..and also the date that I put this moodboard into my drafts I don't have a summary for this per say..it's mostly just cozy Autumn vibes, but here is what I'm thinking - Maybe Luke and Julie meet in their college dorm...both of them there to study something that isn't necessarily their passion - Luke's parents won't pay for a music degree, and Julie can't bring herself to play music since her mom passed. They get paired up in a class, and become something close to friends. It's approaching a holiday break...but neither of them are going home. Julie can't afford to fly back, Luke is avoiding his parents. They end up being some of the only students in their building for a few days. The dorm cafeteria is closed so she runs into him in the shared kitchen burning scrambled eggs (and trying to salvage them with peanut butter), he finds her in the lounge binging some terrible reality show and gets sucked right in (he says it's because she has snacks and she graciously shared). One of them invites the other to walk across campus to the undergrad pub for a "real meal", which turns into an invitation to a movie night in Julie's dorm, which then turns into some light-hearted teasing from Luke about the amount of throw pillows she owns (courtesy of Tia Victoria, she says) and that turns into Luke putting the throw pillows to use in a blanket fort while Julie picks the movie and raids her care-package stash for the best snacks. I'm not sure how it ends...but because it's me there's probably going to be a first kiss, maybe the blanket fort coziness gets to them and they end up dozing off together and she cooks him eggs the next morning (sans peanut butter and crispy burnt bits of course) and they live happily ever after as college sweethearts. The end.

Harjit Kaur had so much to look forward to. Thanks to her hard work, she had just gotten a new job and she and her husband Sukhjinder Singh were about to buy a new home where they would raise their children. The future looked bright.

Harjit already had a four-year-old daughter and a two-year-old son. When she found out she was pregnant with her third child, she didn’t feel ready. Harjit underwent a “consultation” where she was told surgical abortion was “very safe” and that “she would be able to go home in a couple of hours.”

First-trimester surgical abortion is not as safe as she was led to believe. The uterus, cervix, the intestines, bladder, and nearby blood vessels are at risk of being torn. Risks include hemorrhage, infection, organ perforation, embolism and death. A few of the other women and girls killed by “safe and routine” first-trimester legal abortion include Kenniah Epps, Ruth Montero, Maria Gomez, Sandra Williams, Luz Maria Rodriguez, Elise Kalat, 17-year-old Chivon Williams, Erika Charlotte Wullschleger, Tia Archeiva Parks, 19-year-old Lisa Marie Hoefener, Pamela Colson, Maria Leho, Jennifer Hallner, Louchrisser Jackson, Regina Johnson, “Audrey Roe,” “Betty Roe,” “Dawn Roe,” “Evie Roe,” “Dorothy Roe,” “Vanessa Roe,” “Saanvi Roe,” and “Roxanne Roe.”

On January 12, 2024, Harjit went to the Hampton Park Women's Health abortion facility in Melbourne. She had told this was “safe” and a “routine procedure,” and she believed it. She was headed to the operating room at 12:57, when she messaged her husband and said she would call him after the abortion. That was the last time her family ever heard from her.

Abortionist Rudolph “Rudy” Lopes called Sukhjinder later that day to tell him what happened. Moments after the abortion was over, Harjit was being moved to another room when it was discovered that her heart had stopped. An ambulance was called and CPR administered for 45 minutes. Despite all this, Lopes described the abortion as “successful.”

Sukhjinder immediately drove to the facility, but when he arrived the staff refused to let him see Harjit. He was kept out of the ward entirely. He described the horrible day to news sources later:

“Five minutes later the doctor came to me and said, "Sorry your wife is dead".

“I was dead then. My life destroyed in a second.”

Staff finally let Sukhjinder into the room where Harjit’s body lay. “I begged her to come back for our little kids,” he said.

An investigation is now underway, with police and the coroner involved in the case.

Sukhjinder is devastated and doesn’t understand how Harjit, who was perfectly healthy, was killed by something they were repeatedly told was “safe and routine.” He struggles to comprehend what his future will look like without her and has described her needless death as unacceptable.

Harjit did not have to die. It is unacceptable that she was not warned of the potential dangers of the operation that killed her. More support should also be made available for families who are unsure if they are ready to care for a new baby. Resources to help her and Sukhjinder care for the new baby or for adoption could have helped. She and her baby should both be alive. Harjit deserved better than to be collateral damage of an industry that has already killed so many.

So, after seeing this post by @the-most-pathetic-edge-marquis, I ended up going through the Illustrated Guide a bit more thoroughly to look at the ages of all the Twilight Vamps when they were turned. It's a bit creepy honestly, and the woman the woman is for sure not trying to hide her knks with these mostly teenagers.

Baseball and 1950s?

Carlos wants nothing more than to be a big baseball star, follow in the steps of Luis Miguel Castro and Jackie Robinson. However his school doesn’t have a team, at least not one that is capable of practicing regularly. 

He tries his best but there’s only so much he can get done practicing at his own at the local park. Luckily, Willie who also likes to hang out at the park with his skateboard(a sure sign the beach was either too crowded, no good waves, or some other less optimal for Surfing criteria). Willie does his best to help Carlos but, while he’s great with the surfing and skating he lacks the hand eye coordination for any decent pitching or batting. Plus, there’s only so much they can do as a duo. So Willie decides to recruit some of his friends. 

Carlos is barely surprised to learn these friends include the Patterson and Peters boy, who he frequently hears people whisper about, but never loud enough for him to hear what exactly they’ve done wrong. According to them they built a reputation by sneaking around, specifically sneaking into clubs with the better rock and blues music. 

More surprising is that the Mercer boy is also there. Because the Mercer’s definitely have their own reputation and based off that it makes no sense for Alex to be hanging out with the likes of Reggie and Luke, let alone Willie.

At first Reggie, Luke, and Alex are barely better players than Willie. Reggie is quickest to pick up on the various skills and techniques. Luke is actually a surprisingly good coach. 

Ray and Rose are a little apprehensive when they learn about  these boys who have been helping Carlos. That is until they hear who exactly is helping him and are like oh, well that makes sense, you should bring them home for dinner, tell them they can stay with us whenever they like. Even Tia extends the same offer. (There are things about the boys reputations that Carlos doesn’t have full knowledge of but suspects, especially in regards to their parents and living situations.)

Willie, Reggie, and Luke accept the offer but not on a full time basis. They don’t want to risk getting the Molinas and Victoria into any trouble. Alex extremely reluctantly takes up their off after he runs away from home because his parents keep insisting on setting him up with ‘nice girls’ who are neither nice nor his type. 

Ray eventually reaches out to a couple of old friends, Trevor and Caleb, to see if they can help, and both men step up to help house the boys (as well as get them out of some legal trouble they got themselves in after getting into some physical altercations with some other boys/men who had been harassing Carlos, Flynn, and Julie). After additional catching up and learning more about the story, Caleb and Trevor offer to help get Carlos a proper coach. Which in turn turns into establishing a neighborhood baseball team.

Hi all! I think I posted some moodboards here about this fusion fic idea I had a while back for Jatp x One Chicago so he's some fan art I started to make for it (even though there's no actual fic or fics for it yet) But for context in case you want it meet the characters I have for Chicago Med.

First we have Julie who never recovered from Rose's death and never found her way back to music. Instead, she found her way into medicine  following in her Tia Victoria's footsteps and is doing her ED rotation a Chicago Med. (Did we mention Victoria is head of hospital and convinced Julie to leave Los Feliz and come to Chicago?)

Then we have Reggie who is a former paramedic at Firehouse 51, but realized his true calling was pediatrics medicine. But he like Julie has one more year to complete medical school and has to complete his ED rotation at Chicago Med. Good thing he has his best  friend Luke to help him out.

Which brings us to Luke. After a nasty blowout with his parents his junior year of high school, where it was said that music wasn't a career and implied that Luke needed a nice safe job. But neither of his parents thought he could apply himself enough for college. So Luke left to go live with Bobby and his family. In that time, there were few tense phone calls between him and his parents. One more than awkward dinner.  Where Luke announced he was going to college and was to major in Music. In that time, he took a class. Music Therapy. It was led by a Dr. Charles. Who was a psychiatrist. But while psychiatry wasn't for him. It led him to his true calling, medicine where he could not only connect with people. But also help them when they were in most need.

Long story short he changed his major to pre-med and minored in music. Now he's a trauma fellow at Chicago Med. He's still not talking to his parents, but they hate his job (and really that's just a bonus)

"Would you let me take care of this for you?" for the rarepair of your choice

Ray crept into the house, silently easing the door behind him, sliding off his shoes and working the crick in his neck out as he tiptoed to the fridge in the dark.

Thankfully there was still one of those cupcakes Julie made there, as well as a pitcher of lemonade that Carlos put too much sugar in, but Ray could care less-he was thirsty after a long night.

"Papi?"

Ray turned, seeing Julie rubbing at her eyes, standing in the doorway in her pyjamas. "You're home super late."

"Yeah, tough shoot," he said, shutting the fridge, leaving them with only the small nightlight he kept plugged in by the sink. "DId I wake you?"

"Couldn't sleep," she replied.

"You wanna talk?" Ray asked. She had suffered a lot of insomnia after Rose passed, and it reared up occasionally, and she found talking helped. Ray didn't need as much sleep himself, and it was never a hardship to lose some to help his children.

Julie sat down, snagging a swipe of icing with her finger, but Ray didn't mind-the lemonade made up for the lost sugar. "I'm worried about Reggie."

That-that came out of left field. Of course Julie cared about all her friends, but Reggie always seemed so easy going, so Ray wondered what on earth had happened that she was worried about him.

"Why?"

Julie sat there, twisting the end of her braid in her hands. "He came to practise today with bruises on him. Bruises he didn't have yesterday before he went home. He says he fell but..."

Ray could figure the rest out, and it made his blood boil. Someone had hurt Reggie-and unfortunately, it was probably someone close to him, a teacher or parent. Ray suspected the latter.

"You think someone hurt him." It was a statement, not a question.

Julie nodded. "I think it was his dad. Luke told me his parents fight a lot, and I think maybe he got in the middle of it. The-the bruises look too big to be made by a woman."

Ray pulled her into a hug then, hoping the shaking rage working through him wouldn't worry Julie. He knew people could be violent, but he had no time for people who hurt kids.

"Okay mija, I think we can do something-in the morning, okay?"

"But what can we do?" Julie asked. "I already tried to get him to talk to tia, and he brushed me off."

Victoria probably should be involved-she was a social worker after all, and a damn good one. But Ray also knew how slow the wheels of the system worked. And if Reggie was getting bruises where his friends could see them, he might not have time to wait for the right way to get processed.

"Would you let me take care of this for you?" he asked. "I think I have a solution that might help."

"Okay," Julie nodded. "Thanks for listening papi."

"Of course. Head back to bed, you have class in the morning. I'll be up in a bit, I just have to put my pictures on my laptop."

Julie waved before heading on up, leaving Ray to clean up, but he didn't mind. It gave him time to assure himself that Julie was back to sleep. Then he sat at his computer, booting up his search engine.

He researched, finding out what information that he could about Reggie's father, growling as he saw multiple police reports involving the house on Silver Lake, but no real consequences.

Well Ray would be that consequence.

Look, he loved his job as a photographer, but it didn't exactly keep food on the table or a roof over their head. And after Rose's hospital bills wiped their savings, he had to do something to take care of expenses.

Before he had met Rose he had taken jobs to investigate cheaters and the like, and sometimes, if the right client had enough, he took care of their problem. He gave it up after Julie was born, but after Rose died...well it was a handy way to deal with his grief as well as keep his kids fed.

Now he would use it to keep another one of his kids safe-and this time, Reggie getting out of that house was payment enough.

He made it look like an accident of course, and since Reggie's mom had split a few days earlier, Ray didn't worry about her. Only that Linus Peters would never again raise his hand against his son.

Reggie fit right into their home, and Ray took another job to help pay for his therapy, because, well, he was responsible for any trauma-even if Reggie confessed he wasn't as sad as he should be.

But Ray knew he had done the right thing-he had kept his kids safe, he had made Julie happy, and he had rid the world of a monster.

Plus, a decade or so down the road, long after Julie and Reggie figured themselves out, he got himself a grandchild, and he was totally okay not sharing her with anyone.

BIOGRAPHY

Born and raised in France, Victorias family was reasonably wealthy and she was well-taken care of until she reached puberty. She had three older brothers, and two younger sisters and was 'fortunate' enough to catch the eye of a very wealthy traveller who insisted upon her father to allow the two to wed.

Not so keen on the idea, Victoria ran off and found herself suddenly struck by the harsh realities of the 'real world' and what women had to go through in order to survive. She adapted, but she was also too gentle and too fragile making her the perfect target for many men and women who had wished her harm.

Needless to say, as the years passed by and she reached full adulthood, Victoria had given up most of her dreams and hopes in favour of survival alone. And she became very equipped at getting by on wits alone.

Destiny, however, had different plans for her. And the same traveller who had requested her hand over a decade prior, walked into a brothel she had worked in and got on his knee once more. He had not aged a day, and under the lighting of the poorly-lit room, Victoria could tell that he was not a human at all. -- They spoke extensively that night, and she agreed on marrying him in exchange for eternal life. She wanted to be like him.

Transition was neither painful, nor did she come to regret it over the years passed. After becoming a vampire and a third wife to the coven leader, she moved with the coven for centuries. Working and living and thriving in the darkness of the night. She loved the hunt, she loved the power, the protection, the wealth.
