I’m pretty sure it’s canonically stated that Megumi went on missions before being enrolled as a student and that he witnessed the death of at least one comrade, all because he had been bought to be a jujutsu sorcerer. Imagine never having the delusion of a future because you signed your life away to ensure your sister would live happily. Your take on the fact that, maybe, at some point of his life, Megumi didn’t wish to be a jujutsu sorcerer anymore destroys me. I never really thought of it, and he probably never imagined a life for himself where he wouldn’t die as a jujutsu sorcerer either. He was downright begging to be left to die in peace because he couldn’t bear it any longer when he shouldn’t have even gone on missions yet at all😭 And even though his current injuries weren’t caused by a mission, I don’t think he’d be so stupid to try to tame the snake unsupervised a few days after Geto’s death. No update schedule, unfortunately! I don’t have the self control to not post chapters when I have them. I go on hyperfixation-fueled writing binges and writers block crashes of unending despair. You are speaking my ENTIRE LANGUAGE with Megumi. He is, hands down, the most interesting character in the show to me. His backstory and how it intertwines with his philosophy and approach to morality make him just so unendingly interesting to me.

Like, the Fushiguro siblings and specifically Megumi really were doomed by the narrative from the start. Megumi never really lived in a world where he had a future. Like, the past arc takes place during spring of 2006, and his dad had ditched long enough at that point that he straight up forgot megumi's name. Tsumiki's mom had been gone long enough that Megumi thought she and his dad ran off together, so she probably wasn't around after Toji stopped coming. Megumi was born late December of 2002, so he would have been three then. Tsumiki was, at most, five. And because Gojo didn't go to meet them until after Geto's massacre in late summer of 2007, it was just the two of them for at least a year.

Like, the sheer horror of being two very small children taking care of each other, knowing that the money's running out and that your parents probably aren't coming back. They were living in abject poverty, and Megumi was most likely seeing curses during at least part of this (considering he was right at the age for it and he wasn't all that surprised with Gojo rolling up to tell him his dad was from a magic clan) with no idea what they were, because even if Toji explained anything (which i doubt) the chances of Megumi remembering the explanation aren't great. He's seeing horrifying things every day and doesn't have any support past his sister, who can't see the same.

Tsumiki and Megumi faced parentification at a ludicrously young age. We know that Tsumiki most likely took a pretty strong caretaking/maternal role for megumi from an early age, but the fact that baby Megumi's only question when Gojo found him and made his offer was about Tsumiki's happiness suggests that the caretaking wasn't one sided. Making decisions about your future based on the needs of your family is a very adult concern, and it was Megumi's only concern. While Tsumiki was canonically far more open with her affection and care (grumpy baby Megumi refusing to hold hands, you have my whole heart), Megumi definitely loved her deeply already and was modeling his actions with her interests in mind. They must have both been shouldering the load of raising and protecting the other for as long as they can remember. Tsumiki and Megumi were likely barely surviving day to day. They were already shouldering the stresses of grown ups and likely didn't have any of those childish, starry-eyed dreams about what it would be like when they grew up.

Even when Gojo enters the scene, the parentification didn't end. While he does take on a paternal/caretaking role, his intro into their lives very much heralded a time where Megumi became the family's compulsory breadwinner. I won't break down my thoughts on how Gojo probably wasn't the one who came up with the deal of Megumi being collateral for their survival since I already did it in another post, but however it came about, it doesn't change the fact that Megumi knows that he's the one his family's survival hinges on from a stupidly young age.

We know that Megumi was training/working as a jujutsu sorcerer pre-canon. Gojo straight up tells him at age 4 that he's going to need him to work hard, he references the fact that he's been training megumi for a while in season 1, Megumi admits to nobara that he's lost a comrade on a mission before Yuuji (though Yuuji was the first that was his age), and Megumi knows a lot of the people in this world. By the time canon starts, he's been training with Kamo since before Kamo entered school, so for 3-4 years minimum, and Mai knows him as well. Kamo straight up says that Megumi's got more talent than the head of the Zenin clan by his first year, and his Grade 2 status at entrance means he's considered a prodigy. There's also a lot of little scenes that suggest that Megumi's been doing this a while. When Gojo's talking to Yuuji about the detention center fight, he makes a few comments about how Megumi likely understood the reality of the fight and just how bad their odds were better than the other two, suggesting 1) megumi has the experience already to do that and 2) Gojo has witnessed him in the field enough to get a sense of how he evaluates situations. He's been doing this a while.

But the thing is that he's also passively suicidal the entirety of season 1. And that's probably because he spent his entire life believing he was going to die young.

He probably doesn't think of it as being passively suicidal, but he absolutely is. The sacrifice bunt vs Yuuji's homerun in season 1 is SUCH A GOOD MICROCOSM OF HIS CHARACTER.

Yuuji has the blind confidence of a very young god who was never informed that there were other gods that were older and more powerful and will kick his fucking ass. Like, he will be in Sukuna's throne room after the man ripped his heart out and Literally Killed Him and still be like "I will beat your entire ass." No doubt. No hesitation. I simply love him.

Megumi, meanwhile, walks into fights knowing he will find one that he can't win. Yuuji thinks he can beat anyone, but Megumi defaults to the assumption that he can't win in a way that is really suggestive of a very, very deep underlying mental issue.

I don't know if you're anime-only or if you know what the "trump card" gojo refers to during his training scene with Megumi, so I'll confine it to what's already appeared in the anime. Throughout the anime, there's multiple times where it's alluded to the fact that Megumi has some kind of "trump card" where he can take his enemy down with him. Gojo specifically refers to it as "dying to win." Sukuna even recognized to some degree that he was pulling it during their fight and called it "burning through your own life." Whatever it is, it's a sacrifice play. It's taking someone down with him.

And we see throughout the anime multiple times where he almost pulls it. Sukuna is the biggest example, but he likely almost pulled it twice in the fight against Hanami during the Goodwill Event arc. When Hanami first confronts them, Megumi immediately says "Get Inumaki out of here" to Kamo.

And that's fucking weird. Inumaki's a semi-grade one sorcerer, higher than him. He's his very experienced senpai. He's no slouch in a fight. Kamo is older than all of them, has been training his entire life, and is a first grade sorcerer. Out of all of them, Megumi was the baby kohai who should have been leaning on the older students. Instead, he's trying to get them out of the line of fire. He probably saw an immeasurably powerful special grade and decided to pull the same trump card he almost pulled in the fight against Sukuna as soon as Inumaki and Kamo were safe.

Later, when Hanami has Maki by the throat, after he was already hit by her root attack that would kill him if he used cursed energy, he makes the same hand signals he did during the Sukuna fight while thinking about how he's the one who has to make the sacrifice play. He was absolutely killing himself to win.

And that mentality makes so much sense when you consider that Megumi already made the sacrifice play with him and his sister all those years ago.

He's spent his entire life locked into being a sorcerer. It's the collateral keeping himself and his sister alive. He doesn't have a way out. His future employment is collateral for an already-accrued debt; he just doesn't have the option to quit and do something else the way everyone else does. And the thing about being a sorcerer is that the mortality rate is not awe-inspiring, to the point where the Kyoto students canonically tried not to get close to each other because they knew that a decent number of them would be dying young and it would hurt less.

Megumi's not stupid, and he's been doing this for a long time. He's probably been reconciling with his own likely violent death for a long time by the time canon starts, and it really fucking shows with how he approaches fights until the bridge fight. There's something so tragic and sad about that to me. Like, what age was he when he realized this life would probably kill him? When he realized that he would never have a way out?

When you bring in his own morality structure and philosophical approach to life, that entire mindset becomes so fucking interesting. Because Megumi's plainly fucking furious that people did this to him.

Megumi's middle school bullying days is both hilarious and endlessly fascinating in the context of his history. His entire thing is that he hates bad people and believes that we’re born into a fundamentally unjust world. Specifically, he hates people that look at the vulnerable and lack empathy for them, to the point where he ended up going out of his way to beat up every single bully in his middle school an unilaterally enforce peace. He had an entire dramatic speech about how he was doing this because they had hurt others—the worlds based on social construct, "please don't kill me and I won't kill you." They had broken that to make themselves feel strong, and if they did it again in front of him, he'd kill them. All that jazz. And it's really interesting that he never once looks down on the people getting bullied. There's a huge emphasis on strength as tied to value in JJK--Sukuna and Gojo being some of the biggest examples--but Megumi only looks down on a lack of empathy and compassion, not people who are physically weak.

Once that's contextualized with the fact that the person who was supposed to protect him abandoned him and sold him to some very bad people, it becomes a lot more tragic. He's doomed by the narrative and he's self aware of the fact that he's doomed. He spends his entire middle school years kicking the shit out of people who take advantage of people because they can, and I personally think that's because that's exactly what happened to him when he was a kid. There's always a bigger fish, and some pretty fucking big fish have him in a corner. But he's the biggest fish in the pond of his middle school, and he does not put up with people who hurt others just because they can.

He spends his last years before becoming a full time sorcerer acting as the sort of person that never was there for him as a child, and there's something so tragic about that to me. Megumi just reads as someone who's already accepted he's doomed and is so angry he wasn't saved.

Even his name has tinges of tragedy to me. Like, it's the difference between "blessing" and "blessed."

On his face, Megumi seems like he's blessed. He won the genetic lottery. He was born with one of the most powerful techniques in the franchise, the one that the Zenin clan desperately wants. It's rare enough that no one else alive has inherited it. It's suggested that it's the Zenin equivalent to the Six Eyes, and Gojo's the one who's always saying how he alone is blessed by heaven. Even Kamo, who isn't even Zenin, commented during their fight on how much people wanted someone like Maki or Mai to get it instead. I won't comment on manga events, but as it proceeds, it becomes even more obvious just how valuable his technique is considered to be.

But Megumi doesn't seem to particularly care about his technique.

He said at one point that, in middle school, he didn't really want to be a jujutsu sorcerer because he couldn't imagine who he'd want to save (the fact that his first act in the series is to save Yuuji is another discussion entirely that I am so mentally ill about). Megumi spends the series surrounded by people who are extremely impressed by and focused on his technique, but for Megumi? His technique and its value seems to be the thing that trapped him. No one was ever going to let him live in peace, and he was young enough that he had no real way to protect his own interests.

He never got to be a kid who got to dream about what he'd be when he grew up. Other kids got to say they'd be an astronaut, or an actor, or a veterinarian or whatever, and he has known that he would be lucky to not die in wizard school his entire childhood. He is a blessing for other people, for the Zenin who want his technique, for the higher ups who effectively own him until he repays his debt, but he's not blessed. He's just valuable sea glass with collectors circling. He hates his name, and I think he hates what he is as well. He's an extraordinarily strong willed person who hates people who take advantage, but he's spent his entire life with a boot on his neck. that must piss him off.

I think his relationship with jujutsu sorcerer would have potentially been a lot better if it had been a choice for him, but he's someone who intensely values control over himself who has been controlled by the circumstances of his birth his entire life. There are all these tiny ways in the show that he tries to exert control over his own circumstances because he just doesn't have a lot of control over his life and it's just amazing character design.

He's just so tragic to me. I am so mentally unwell over him.

Tsumiki and the fact that she was fully about to fight Maki for a hot minute was a lot harder to settle on, mostly because we just don't get a lot about her. But I actually kind of like those kinds of characters? I get to play more in those sandboxes and have more freedom with the character because I'm just using what's little known about them as a bouncing off point and making shit up for the rest.

And with Tsumiki we just do not have a huge amount because she's in a magic coma when canon starts. What little we have is coming through Megumi, who is a naturally unreliable narrator when it comes to her. Like, in his mind, her primarily defines her as "a good person," and that makes a lot of sense when you consider that this is his big sister who was, effectively, the only source of stability and care he had growing up and is almost completely lost to him by the start of canon. he's the last person i would expect to be an reliable narrator about her.

Fanon (at least what I've seen) seems to have translated what we've seen to her into "kind natured good girl" which I don't entirely agree with? I just don't think those kind of people exist. Like, the one's who are all sunshine and rainbows and kind thoughts all the time. Everyone has negative emotions; it's just a matter of how they deal with them.

Also what little concrete we have on her doesn't necessarily suggest she fits that kind of eternally-caring good girl motif anyway.

There's the big example, where she says she would much rather think about the ones she loves rather than curse anyone. This very notably isn't an idealistic "everyone has good in them" rationalization, but it's more "I have better things to do with my time." Forgiving bad people is a trait that Megumi attributes to her, but he's an unreliable narrator about her, so it may be accurate or it may not be. There's a difference between forgiving someone and taking a policy of non-interference.

It's also suggested that she doesn't actually look down on the absence of forgiveness--she actually comments pretty favorably on it. She says that Megumi's refusal to forgive people is a part of his kindness. This suggests that, even though she goes after him for fighting, it's not some kind of perfectly kind "forgiveness is the right thing to do" rationalization. She recognizes the nuance in Megumi's actions and his anger. The thing she really gets on him for is the fighting itself, not the anger, and fighting 1) has wider impacts on Megumi (physically, mentally, emotionally, on his record, etc) and 2) it's suggested that she gets on him because of these wider impacts. We never actually see her discuss it at all in terms of the people he beats up, and Megumi thinks, in retrospect, that she was picking him to care about the same way that he picks who he saves. Again, he's unreliable, so this may be true and it may not be, but I find her character so interesting if it is true, especially in light of her quote about not cursing people because she'd rather think of her loved ones.

That takes Tsumiki from the kind of "prototypical good girl" character type into the realm of someone who has picked to only care about certain people and approach the rest of the world with polite indifference. She doesn't share Megumi's anger at the world, but she doesn't exactly approach it with starry-eyed idealism either.

A much better example of starry-eyed idealism within JJK is actually Yuuji (pre-Junpei) or Geto (pre-genocidal breakdown) than Tsumiki--and the narrative immediately deconstructs both cases of starry-eyed idealism, suggesting that it doesn't genuinely tie being a "good person" to those approaches to morality.

Both Yuuji and Geto kind of spout like, baby's first philosophy class styles of idealism. And I don't mean that in a derogatory way towards either of them--they're both highly empathetic teenagers who care a lot about the world and people in it who are trapped in a system that is fundamentally hostile. Yuuji has a stance of "even considering killing would affect my soul" and Geto has a stance of "I exist for the sake of protecting those weaker than me," both of which aren't wholly without merit, but both are overly simplistic and lack nuance. Which makes sense, because they're both a teenager's approach to morality. In a safer environment, they could have grown in nuance and had their world views challenged safely. but the system they're both existing in isn't safe and never has been--so Yuuji ends up having to confront his stance on killing when he has to put literal children trapped in inexplicable torment out of their misery, and Geto goes off his rocker entirely.

In contrast, Tsumiki really isn't as idealistic as either of them, from what little we see of her. She never once gets close to their levels of "I want to save everyone" syndrome--it's straight up that she's picked her people to care about and has better things to do with her time than waste it on hate and anger. Contextualizing it within her background, that reads more like a survival strategy than being a sparkly kind perfect good girl.

She was a very young girl who had to shoulder a huge amount of responsibility at a young age. She was stuck in terrible circumstances, living well below the poverty line, with her only support being a brother that was even younger than her. We don't know anything about her mom or bio dad, or how much she knows about/remembers Toji, but it's interesting that Toji's approach to life is the antithesis of Tsumiki's.

Toji was so caught up in his own bitterness towards how he was treated that a big part of why he took Riko's assassination was so he could prove he was stronger than *checks notes* a sixteen year old miracle baby and his repressed boyfriend. In the end, the fact that he was caught up in his bitterness was his downfall, and he said it himself: he normally would have fucked off the second Gojo showed up after the assassination was done. He directly ignored his instincts to prove a monkey like him could take on the pinnacle of jujutsu sorcery, and that's what killed him.

There's not enough in canon to tell us either way if tsumiki had any impressions of the adults in her life, but I honestly really like the idea of her looking at the a life where the adults are neglecting her because they've been consumed by their own anger and hate and purposefully deciding to not let it consume her as well. To discard that kind of stuff, not because she thinks there's good in everyone or that it's horribly wrong to have negative emotions, but because she has the people she loves and she's building a life with them by sheer force of will. She's fleeing the teeth of a beast, not approaching the world through rose-colored glass.

For another thing, we have legitimately two actions that she's canonically taken in the series. One was nail Megumi in the back of the head with a milk carton during a fight, the other was fling her fucking body off a bridge with a homemade bungee chord. Girl's probably not a nun.

I ended up deciding that the core of Tsumiki's character needed to be that had a, for lack of a better word, selfish way of loving people. Not to say that she acts selfishly (if anything, canon shows she's intensely selfless when it comes to the people she loves), but just that she's decided to conserve her efforts and care to center around the people she loves and not care about the whole world and everything in it. In her mind, Megumi's kindness is in part because he's angry on the behalf of other people, which is a trait she doesn't share. She cares about her brother and just straight up doesn't have the time or resources for everyone else. Megumi is her landmine.

There's not enough in canon to contradict this reading of her, which makes her fun to write. So she's a relatively nice and polite girl until her brother's in danger, in which case she's immediately stealing cars and about to throw hands with a girl holding a polearm. She's so fun.

Here's a fun nugget of trivia to start us out today: Though we still don't know who was behind this masterpiece, according to SiIvaGunner team member OnBP, the rip was accepted and uploaded onto the channel "because its fucking hilarious"

Look, I know myself that a lot of my more recent shoutouts have had a kind of sappy energy to them, to show off the "humanity" behind SiIva. That's great fun and all, but it doesn't exactly paint a good picture of what the channel as a whole is like. Though those displays of genuine care and quality exist, we shouldn't forget that the main purpose of the channel is to surprise and be entertaining. In any way possible.

Ever since Snowball Park - Super Mario 3D World was unleashed upon the world its been shrouded in mystery. Though it was one of the first rips to be released in Season 4, the entire point of it is just to sound as bad as possible - worse than the regularly-scheduled low-effort Space Jam mashups that we were used to, this was an entirely new kind of awful. Its a mashup that interrupts itself as soon as it goes on beat, pauses in the middle of playing as the background track keeps going, randomly plays slowed down or sped up samples from the source its mashed up with, which is already an absolutely bizarre source to take from. Many of the comments on the original video even expressed concern over how the SiIva team was doing, it was nuts!!!

And through this intentionally bad sound, the rip's legacy has lived on! It continues to be referenced in other bad-on-purpose rips made since, its wiki page is a meme entirely in its own right, and it kind of solidified Sprite Cranberry as a mainstay joke on the channel entirely on its own. I think specifically because this rip didn't draw any attention to itself - it was just an everyday Super Mario 3D World game rip, after all - it got this bewildered reaction from everyone, where the expectation were low and yet people were still caught completely off guard. Its these kinds of rugpulls that continue to define the channel even in its later years that I can't help but respect. And I also can't get Sprite Cranberry out of my head.

Captain said I was allowed to have 14:00-16:00 on Saturday afternoons as long as we're not in the middle of a medical procedure or battle.

It can be transferred to other times and, of course, sometimes the muse takes you when you're fleeing battle and you just have to use a mental semaphore to jot down the key points of your next masterpiece. I click my claws together as a tactile memory thingy, and it drives Uni crazy. (Clione figured it out though, and I think he's posting his own fic under the user name "nematode" using my ideas).

Captain said I could have that time too (like, no-one, no-one is allowed to interrupt me while the ink nib is in my hand on Saturday afternoons. Even Shachi and Ikkaku have to tone down the clicking and weird cetacean noises as they bounce around the sub), but I digress, Captain said I could have that time too if I promised not to put him in fictionally compromising positions, and we all know that Captain could do with compromising a little more, right? So even though there's a promise in that word, I had my fingers crossed (even my nails) behind my back when I agreed :D

Jikook After Tokyo

In 2014 Jimin said that he wanted to go on a trip alone with Jungkook. Three years later they travelled to Tokyo alone together. On 30th October 2017, Jimin and Jungkook returned from their trip.  A day later, Jimin uploaded a selca of them together in the dance practice room. The selca gives intimate vibes, with the way JK’s cheek is resting on Jimin’s fluffy hair as they lean against each other. You can feel their happiness radiating through the selca with their smiles. They’re glowing in domesticity and it was something that continued.

On November 1st, BTS performed at the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics G-100 Concert. All of the groups sang Butterfly together for the encore.  Jimin and Jungkook stayed close together as they got into position for rehearsals, nearly always touching. Jimin stayed behind Jungkook, with their bodies overlapping as they whispered to each other on stage. Jikook stayed constantly glued to each other whilst rehearsing and it didn’t go unnoticed. 

The bubble that Jimin and Jungkook created continued as they sang live.  Continuously giving each other heart eyes and whispering to each other just before the fireworks went off. They stayed within each other's orbit and these sweet interactions made some interested in their dynamics, aware that Jikook had just returned from their Tokyo trip together. Jimin and Jungkook seemed closer than ever.

The next day, the members filmed episodes 30 and 31 of Run BTS. The loser of the episode would have to wear their outfit on their way to Macau the next day on November 3rd. (Spoilers: Jimin lost.) Jimin and Jungkook stayed alongside each other at the airport as they walked past the mass crowds.

Shortly after they touched down, Jimin was spotted at a local hospital and rumours quickly spread. On the day of the concert,  BH announced that Jimin would not be fully taking part in the choreography on stage due to muscle pain. You could see how frustrated Jimin was on the chair with limited movement and the members made sure to include him as much as they could. They also tried to make him smile and comfort him.  In the Burn the Stage Episode 8, we saw more of what happened in the behinds before the concert. Jimin is clearly upset by his muscle pain and how it will affect the performance. Especially when it was the last leg of the tour before going back to Seoul. Jungkook sits next to him on the sofa as the other members discuss Jimin taking it easy during the concert. They express their concern and understanding of his situation, not wanting the pain to get worse.

The lyrics from “There For You” hit more when you realise that Jungkook would have been editing GCFT during this time. Just like how Jimin ran to Jungkook twice in London 2018 when he was also injured, they are always there for each other. We have seen so many instances over the years where they have been there for each other. It’s a very strong instinct between them and their presence alone helps the other when they are upset. Something consistent from over the years.

On 6th November 2017, Jimin posted a cute vlog in two parts of their trip to Tokyo. Jimin starts the adorable edit with the opening captions of “Finally the first trip.”, referencing his wish from 2014. The video features both Jimin and Jungkook enjoying themselves in Tokyo, sharing the various activities that they did together. He also uploaded a selca of themselves in costume, which they wore as they went around in Halloween undetected.

Unknown to Jimin at the time, Jungkook was also working on his own creation. It took approximately eight days to finish the masterpiece, amongst all the other schedules that they had. Often staying up late to finish editing, as Namjoon stated that he saw Jungkook editing at 3am. Jungkook happily uploaded GCFT on 8th November 2017 at 10pm kst, whilst filming the VCR for 4th Muster.

GCFT contained footage of their trip in Tokyo, with scenes of mostly Jimin being featured. Jimin responded to the post over an hour later, saying that “if hyung knew that you were going to make such a cool video, I would’ve cared more about how I look and I wouldn’t have done such weird things. Next time I will try to look better. Thank you for making this video. You worked hard.” The video shows their trip mostly from his pov. Jimin looks stunning as we see him happily walking around Tokyo or spinning in the tea cup. With the delicate choice of editing and clips to match the lyrics, you cannot help but feel certain emotions when you watch it.

The trip was obviously very meaningful to both Jimin and Jungkook.They both made edits of their trip which they then shared with us. They didn’t have to, but they did. They wanted to include us with their memories. They also continued to reference GCFT several times over the years. When asked “what was something you experienced for the first time this year?” Jimin responded with ``I went on a trip with Jungkook for the first time.”

After Macau and the release of GCFT, BTS travelled to America for the AMA’s and Mic Drop promotions. Whilst travelling, Jungkook asked to sit in the same car as Jimin. Jimin then posted a video of them on the plane. During the AMA’s itself, Jungkook continued to rub Jimin’s jacket. Jimin asked him to stop and Jungkook did, keeping his hand on his waist. Similar to the Olympics stage, Jikook stayed close together as they went to the main stage.

When they returned to Seoul, award season continued. They also completed their Wings Tour, with Jikook doing a charming and flirty Vlive together on December 8th before they went on stage. These soft and smitten vibes continued into 2018 when award season ended and they started to rehearse for 4th Muster. Whilst performing, Jikook flirted with each other and the fandom noticed that Jikook still had that certain glow around them. That they made each other happy and blush and weren’t afraid to show it. Something which continued throughout 2018 and later years.

The Lyrics poster for the song was released 12/27. It was a simple design, to emphasize more on the lyrics. TRANSLATION IS OVER HERE. This is when we realized that the song will be called 20.

• A possible meaning to the number : 廿 is twenty, it means 挚and 爱 which both has 10 strokes, so twenty also means 挚爱 (True Love/Beloved). 20 kadian also 爱你 (love you).

• Initially, people were screaming because he used he/him instead of her.

• The lines were first thought to be that from a heart monitor. People got that impression first because of the fake rumor before that they send each other their heartbeat recordings ( from apple watch ) to each other. However, further research into it, more bxgs agreed that it’s more of the pattern you see in sound bytes. a stretched out version of it.

• this bxg tried to match what is being said, it’s “xiao zhan” and when you put it side by side to how Bobo says his name— it’s very close. 👀

• at TWENTY, Yibo was cast as LWJ in CQL. He filmed with Xiao Zhan and got to know him. You can say that it’s an important year for him.

• Initial clues from the teaser lyrics. “shooting star” / meteor which is a recurring theme for both of them. and that line “returning with you”. With who yibo?

Part Two

The Teaser audio was released 12/29, a short clip giving us a glimpse of what it will sound like and an album art (?)

When you first look at it, the art seems to be a hand painted work. Which reminds most of us of GG’s ideal life painting.

• The caption on this post mentions a glimmer that breaks through the night. It could be interpreted as Bobo being the “lonely star” but he’s not alone anymore. There is already a light in his life.

It looks like we were not clowned this year, there is a definite “theme” to this release. With this one looking like a hand painted work again. A Light. Light spot anyone? lol. Is the consulting designer of YBO at work here? 🤣

• QQ music and Kugou Music has two different covers, in a way that QQ’s is more refined. Compared to the other’s that you can clearly see the strokes.

• Another detective moment of details we can see. It’s not a stretch to think that there are hidden things in this art. It’s just that we can’t CONFIRM it. It’s all up for interpretation. But when I first saw it, I really thought there was a figure of a person.

It’s not toxic positivity, they acknowledge that life is tough. It’s not always gonna be good but you still gotta fight cause things will be better. You have people with you. the ride to the school is short, and you find a parking spot quickly, so you’re out on the football field in no time. ryujin’s teammates are already on the grass, adjusting uniforms and stretching. she joins them quickly, changing inside and running out. you take a seat on the benches lining the field, settling in to watch them play. your heart is still pounding, but watching the others play, you don’t notice it as much.

the boy’s team is playing one field over, so you can watch them as well. familiar faces dot that field too, and because they let out before the girls, you get to talk to them while waiting. chenle and jake plop down next to you, teasing you about your obviously heaving chest.

“you all worked up watching the games?” chenle nudges you from his side, the feeling of his sweaty shoulder making you shudder. “as if. my soulmates running a marathon or something, like they like to do every day,” jake twists his face in sympathy, "well you've got practice in a bit right? give them a taste of their own medicine!"

changing quickly, your walked out to the pool, greeting your teammates with a smile. time for some payback. tugging on your fins, you dove into the water, relishing the instant comfort it gave. following your coach’s orders, you, along with the rest of the swim team, start swimming laps around the pool. half an hour in, your heart is pumping, and the fact that you were the cause for it makes it so much more sweet. friends have begun to line the sides of the pool, yelling out encouragements and teases. you can easily spot the soulmates of the people swimming with you, their chests heaving, but big smiles on their faces. ryujin, chenle and jake are sat near your lane at the leftmost side of the pool. the three of them, still sweaty and tired from their practice, watch you swim, happy grins on their faces. an hour or so later, you are doing a few mock races, and jeongin has joined them too, his usually teasing visage now smiling with pride. you streak through the water, enjoying the burn in your arms, feeling the exhaustion through your bones in a way that swimming only gives you. you reach for the edge of the pool, and it’s coming closer, closer, until you feel it, slippery on your soaked skin. your friends jump up, yelling out in excitement, filling your heart to the absolute brim.

“alright y/n, good job! you can go change, see you next time,” your coach calls out to you, signalling for you to climb out of the water. your friends swarm you, words of happiness and congratulations surrounding you.

“you did good, fucker,” ryujin ruffles your hair. “now go shower and cool down so you can do that in the actual races,” chest heaving, you flash a huge grin at them, “be right back! i’ll meet you in the parking lot!” they nod their assent, and you begin to walk to the showers, barely catching chenle say something.

“jake, are you really still tired from football? you’ve been panting for ages.”

hours later, you find yourselves in your usual post-practice spot, the local diner near the school. chatting and laughing, you lose track of time around the point when your fries arrive. jeongin regales you all with stories of the crazy customers he dealt with at work, and ryujin gives you the rundown of all the drama that happened in her football practice(seriously, how do they even have time to kick the ball around when so much is going on??). you get that heady feeling of pure happiness, when you’re not thinking or worrying about anything, just paying attention to the amazing people you get to surround yourself with.

you only snap out of that headspace when chenle looks down at his smartwatch(rich boy) and lets out a noise of surprise.

“it’s 19:42! i need to go, fuck,” he begins to clean up his stuff and lays down money for his meal. the rest of you follow suit, appalled at how long you’ve been sitting in this booth. all the money is on the table, and you rise from your seat, ready to go home.

“ryujin, can you drive me home?” you hold the girl's arm, pleading with her so that you won’t have to walk. she opens her mouth, ready to speak, but then she hesitates, a look of mischief crossing her features.

“okay-” you rejoice, pumping a fist in the air, until she goes on: “only if you can beat me to the car. okay 3,2,1 GO!” she starts sprinting, long legs bringing her halfway across the parking lot in no time. you let out a groan of exhaustion, and start pumping your legs to follow her.

by some miracle, you reach the car at virtually the same time, doubling over to hold your knees in your worn-out state. ryujin, in between her attempts at gulping down air, tells you she’ll take you, and you wait for the rest to reach you.

jeongin, chenle and jake walk leisurely up to you, starting to say their farewells. you straighten up, grabbing first chenle, then jeongin into a hug. they yell out some more goodbyes as they walk off to their cars, when you hug jake.

for having just walked here, his heart is racing. why? you focus your hearing on his heartbeat. it’s almost as if he sprinted here. pulling your head away from him, you look up at him, voicing your concerns.

“are you okay? your heart’s beating really fast.” he frowns at you, and presses a hand to his heart. you follow suit, feeling the thump, thump, thump of his chest. it feels familiar. why do you feel so used to this heartbeat? confusion ripples through your mind, until it clears, with a feeling of shock. you know this heartbeat. you know it because it’s your own.

grabbing his other hand, you place it over your heart. his face twists with surprise, and then an emotion you’re not familiar with crosses his features. he pulls you back into a hug, excitement so evident that it’s crossing over to you. jake is your soulmate! which a choked laugh, you pull him impossibly closer to you. he tucks his head next to yours and whispers in your ear.

“it was always you, wasn’t it?”

you pull back from the hug, your smile dropping into a serious face. he looks in confusion, as you rear your arm backwards. you push forward, landing a punch in his gut, and he stumbles backward with an ‘oof’

Happy Birthday Seokjin!

Truly I am so grateful that Seokjin is part of Bangtan and that we got to meet him, still get to know him more with the passage of time, and are blessed by his beautiful personality and charm. There are so many things that could be said about him, so much praise, and he would deserve all of it and so much more.

Personally he inspires me so much with the way he carries himself and the way he views the world, realistic yet without losing a sense of wonder even if it shows in different ways from some of the other members, how he moves through his days and through schedules (based on what we see and hear), and the gentle care he puts into the things he cares about and the people he loves. I love the fact that he knows what he wants, that he knows how important it is to rest sometimes and will take the time to just do...nothing, or something that others would deem as “waste of time” simply because he enjoys it, like playing video games. He’s so incredibly intelligent, both in the sense of being smart but also on an emotional level, it’s awe-inspiring.

But he’s also incredibly hard working and dedicated, and he brings those around him so much joy. He isn’t afraid to do something a little embarrassing, like attaching RJ to the back of his head for the encore or coming on stage with mini space buns because he knows we’ll love it, or to pretend that he fell so that Tae, who actually fell on the red carpet, wouldn’t be embarrassed on his own. He’s introverted and shy and yet he still takes it upon himself to put himself out there, to crack jokes to lighten the mood and participate in interviews and red carpet moments, even in English, to help the other members and especially Namjoon. And in return his members love him so endlessly, just like ARMY does.

Using this occasion, I thought it would be a good chance to share something I wrote (but never got to finish and post) about something that Seokjin spoke about in his BE-hind Interview with JK a long time ago:

One thing that particularly stuck out to me about this interview, which of course has immediately been misconstrued and twisted for the sake of a narrative by some people (don’t let me get into it because I’ll never stop yelling), is how content he is with his “clean” voice which he believes to not be “special” (which I don’t agree with but that isn’t the point). This is so valuable and such a good way of thinking. Some say he was being modest, which surely is part of it, while others that he’s being negative toward himself, which might be part of it, too, but I don’t actually believe that to be the case. I think with the way society treats creative people right now, how your talents are only worthy of being seen and showcased when you’re the best, the most talented, your voice is the most special and outstanding, your music the most genius and innovative, your art the more outstanding there ever was—basically you feel like your creativity is only valid if it can be/is accompanied by a superlative.

But in comes Seokjin, worldwide handsome silver voice Seokjin collecting praise left, right and center for his vocals, who says these things about his voice.

This is shining a light on many things, but especially on how you can be happy with having a voice that (according to you) isn’t a superlative but that suits you and works well for you, but also how truly far hard work can take you. After all, Seokjin wasn’t a singer when he became a trainee, he basically unlocked a talent that was already within him and then put in the years and countless hours of work to elevate what was already there to become who he is today vocal wise. That’s admirable and presents talent was not the magical nebulous idea that people have—basically you’re either born talented or you should just give up—but something you have to work for, put in the time and effort and you don’t need to be the next Freddie Mercury (though his imitation at Wembley was still amazing, like come on) to be a good singer, to be worthy of being heard.

Another thing that this did was taking a step away from “old” Seokjin, the one that only ever wanted to show us his happy side while keeping anything negative away from us, and the “new” Seokjin who’s willing (and trusts us enough) to tell us about feeling blue and writing Abyss in a time when he literally didn’t want to do anything at all to put his emotions into something, who shares his opinion on his voice with us, despite knowing how some might react yet being confident enough that we’ll still understand him. This shows how much he’s grown as both person and as artist, show a very human side of him, shows that at the end of the day, despite the fortune and fame, he’s a person like any of us who worked hard to become the artist he is today, who’s still working on his talents, still growing, who still has so much more space to grow into and more aspects of his voice and musical skills to explore, and I am immensely grateful for the fact that he’s done this.

the beautiful person's journal - #1: graphic design

for this very first installment of my caddicarus history series, i'm gonna go full graphic designer brain on y'all. yeah, i'm turning it up to 100 already.

for brevity's sake, i'm only going to be talking about the profile pics, channel art, and the thumbnails/title cards/logos of the caddicarus show. i'll do separate posts about the other shows another time. but for this one, i'm sticking to the OG show we all know and love.

throughout its 11-year history, the caddicarus channel has changed a lot in its branding. that's expected for a youtube channel, especially one that was started by a 17-year-old kid who would keep making videos into his late 20's and beyond.

as a graphic design major who was 100% an autistic logo kid, i was fascinated by the channel's branding. fascinated by how...interesting it was.

to put it lightly, the branding was very rough around the edges. but before i dive deep into that, let's talk about how the channel looks now.

in the year of our lord 2022, the caddicarus channel has never looked better. this is personally my favorite branding the channel's ever had! it's very consistent, the color palette is beautiful, i LOVE the thick outlines, the character design for caddy is very clean and captures his cartoonish personality well. the shift from bright blue to these deep purples/dark indigoes gives the channel a unique identity compared to a whole bunch of other gaming channels that also use blue colors, similar to vinesauce with the color green. the halftone accents replacing the playstation icons help emphasize that caddy doesn't only talk about PS stuff, yet the logo retains the asciiware controller, still showing his connection. this flatter version of jan animations' logo works well with the rest of the branding, it's like the cherry on top. it really gives the channel this glorious late 90's-early 2000s feel. it's a gorgeous branding by littlemisschii, who is a godsend to this community.

i could go on and on about how beautiful this branding is and how it's the caddicarus branding younger me always wanted to see, but we've gotta move on to the brandings before this one.

this current branding may be sleek and clean, but it wasn't always like this. in fact, one of the charms of the pre-2020 (or pre-august 2018 by extension) caddicarus channel was how mismatched and rough-looking it was. i can't put too many images on here due to the image limit, but just scroll through the caddicarus channel and you'll see for yourself how rough it was before season 11.

when i started watching caddicarus in august 2014, the channel looked like this:

this was an AWESOME banner by whaddupnico/nico vliek (yes, the nico vliek who did scott the woz's branding!) nico partnered with caddy for about 5 or so years, from 2013 to 18. in 2013 his first project for him was two t-shirts based on current quickies and jaws unleashed, and in 2014 he made this banner. nico designed a bunch of different logos for caddy's 5 shows at the time in the styles of various video game logos. and in the center was that masterpiece of a cooltext.com-generated logo that was used up until the channel (initially) reached 500k subscribers in mid-2016. i can't think of any other youtuber who got that high with a goddamn cooltext logo. it's just so wonderfully caddy.

this was the channel banner until 2016, when season 6 premiered, the caddicarus show became weekly and the three-videos-a-week schedule was officially established after some experiments. after this banner was retired, every caddicarus channel art followed the same format: logo in middle, schedule/social media somewhere on the banner, and starting in july 2016 - caddy to the right of the logo.

here's a dump of images i'm going to be explaining; i'm doing it like this to combat tumblr's 10-image limit. this shows how much i adore this channel and the lengths i'll go to preserve its history LOL. you can click on em get a closer look.

small error on the profile pics image: the sixth profile pic is supposed to say 2019-21 as it was introduced alongside season 13's thumbnails featuring caddy's actual face

okay, gathering up all those images and dates and compiling them together took a toll on me...now time to discuss them!

if you paid attention hard enough back in the day, you may remember how mismatched the branding was through 2016-18. the biggest example of this revolved around the blue playstation icons background.

on july 10th, 2016, the current logo was introduced to the channel. this logo designed by jan animations is the caddicarus logo nowadays - the first thing that comes into anyone's mind when caddicarus is brought up. but of course, back when it was introduced, it was pretty polarizing. it was quite possibly the snazziest, coolest, fanciest piece of branding the caddicarus channel ever had! but it had its detractors...and they honestly had a reason to detract, because for the first 10 months of its use, caddy decided to use this cheerful logo over the grungy, unfitting background he'd been using for years.

but what's even more slightly irritating about this is that only a week after the logo was introduced, caddy put this logo on the banner - using a blue gradient background with PS icons on it. this background was nowhere to be found in the videos, though.

but finally - starting with the shadowman episode - caddy added the new background to the intro! the logo fit!!

but...the thumbnails still had mismatched branding!!!

...until the debut of season 10, when the grunge was entirely taken away from the show and he added the PS icons to the thumbnail. it took him this long!

yeah, sure, it doesn't matter in hindsight, but man did it infuriate me at the time as an aspiring graphic designer!

but at the same time, that was the charm.

the thumbnail art...is a pretty divisive subject. but it's also another one of the worst offenders of mismatched branding. until season 6, the same image of caddy was used on every thumbnail for every show (except for drive thru reviews). and there's already a HUGE problem with this - this image was drawn around 2012-13 with 2012-13 caddy in mind. meaning...there was no beard, he had a scrawnier build, and his hair is longer. so...this image quickly became outdated as he began to grow a beard, but it became even more outdated when caddy shaved his hair in 2014. but he continued to use it. even into late 2015 after he'd gotten his mohawk. it got to the point where the thumbnail looked like some random guy rather than the guy in the video you clicked on. even the hair color was inaccurate! so beginning with season 6, we FINALLY got the thumbnail overhaul we needed.

and uh...it sure was a thumbnail overhaul.

of all the thumbnail art caddy's used, this was the most poorly received. caddy's mohawk and new hand tattoos were already polarizing among some viewers, and this new image didn't help matters. common criticisms revolved around the animesque art style combined with flawed lineart and shading. this image was used throughout the rest of 2016.

then, after he moved to his current house in 2017 and artificially created reached his 101st episode, caddy updated the image to a new one drawn by the same artist. while this art wasn't without its detractors, this was widely considered a massive improvement over the 2016 art and was welcomed with open arms. this one featured caddy wearing his beanie, so it could be a somewhat neutral, central representation of him should he change his hairstyle again.

this art was used until season 11 in august 2018, when jetpackbraggin was first brought in. you can scroll through his thumbnails and see how fast he got into the groove of drawing caddy; the first several or so thumbnails were pretty rough but it really started coming together by the spider-man episode. today, we have absolutely gorgeous unique thumbnails drawn by him for each new caddicarus episode! the thumbnails before had art and a logo that were both outsourced, but when it came to how jim placed things on the thumbnail...it was kinda messy lol. he'd make images too large and it would cover the caddicarus logo...you couldn't read the name of the show you were about to watch for some videos hahaha. these new thumbnails from JPB gave the channel a cleaner look.

and also, for seasons 11-13...the blue borders came in.

so if this post has taught you anything, it's that caddy himself isn't the greatest at graphic design LMAO. but i'll say it again...that was the charm! the caddicarus channel looks drop dead gorgeous these days, and i could gush over that forever, but man there's more and more people every day who either forget or don't remember how wonderfully awful everything used to look. it's just one more thing that made caddy stand out; a lot of other gaming channels had/have super sleek branding with a whole team of writers/producers/business people/whatever. but caddicarus - even after all the changes and branding outsourcing - has always been caddy's baby. it's his show and his show only, and that's what makes it so special! 💜

⚔️ you two were happily spending winter break in the Valley of the Thorns and needless to say, you wanted to explore his homeland at least a bit. Of course, Silver was more than excited and happy to show you some interesting places. Knowing how much you adore art and how creative you are, he came up with a perfect place for your date,

⚔️ you certainly didn’t expect Silver to take you to museum dedicated to ancient fae’s paintings, but you were so excited to explore this art so unknown to you, 

⚔️ Silver tells you stories about every painting, focusing even on the smallest details, pointing out more interesting aspects. You listen to him with wide eyes, carefully inspecting the paintings. At some point you are so engrossed and focused on listening to his soft voice, that you hadn’t even notice that Silver’s attention was solely on you,

⚔️ he was a bit afraid that you may find his facts and curiosities boring and he will definitely ask multiple times whether you are fine with him talking. You are, 

,,Are you sure you are interested?” “Yes, please keep on talking”

⚔️ Silver absolutely doesn’t let go with your hand, 

⚔️ it turns out, Silver used to visit this museum quite often when he was a child. Lilia would go with him and then tell stories about each painting, as if he was the one who had created them,

💜 first of all, Vil absolutely adores your creative side. He could spend hours looking at your paintings and he always make sure to tell you what he adores in his art and what you did good (even though he wouldn’t considered himself skilled in this subject),

💜 since you paint a lot in your free time and Vil is your self-proclaimed muse, he deduced that you had probably visited every single art museum dedicated to paintings (he was right), so he decided to choose something different,

💜 sculpture wasn’t something you were strong in. No, you were rather more interested in paintings, but when Vil offered to take you to the sculpture museum, you happily accepted his invitation

💜 Vil may have prepared before your date and read some articles concerning sculptures, just so he could impress you with little facts or curiosities regarding the exposition. He definitely won’t admit that’s what he had been doing in the evenings. You were surprised but also charmed by his knowledge,

💜 will you two be holding hands all the time not caring whether Vil is spotted by his fans? Absolutely. Speaking of Vil, he turned into absolute disguise master – his hair were pulled in low ponytail and tucked carefully underneath a hat and he also wore sunglasses (even though it was a middle of winter)

,,No one will recognise you, you’re paranoid darling. Why did you even wear those sunglasses? It’s literally snowing” “Those sunglasses are from Gucci and I guess I will be a trendsetter” “What?” “Look, I am sacrificing for you Y/N, appreciate this!”

💜 your date won’t end in museum. Afterwards, Vil will take you to cosy art-themed café filled with various paintings and books dedicated purely to art. You two will spend literally hours looking through albums and showing each other pieces you find intriguing, while sipping on hot chocolate

💜 after the date, you were tempted to actually make a sculpture of Vil,

♦️ is a tad bit disappointed he can’t bring his selfie-stick inside, since Cater just wanted to take a lot of pictures of you beaming with happiness, while you look at the paintings,

♦️ constantly says that one day your paintings will be in the museum, while you rapidly shake your head embarrassed

,,One day, I will see your painting here, babe” “W-what noo, my art certainly doesn’t deserve to be among such masterpieces”

♦️ Cater adores, adores how creative you are. He always posts your works on his magicam account, tagging literally everyone, which always makes you slightly embarrassed. He is so supportive and he’s a perfect definition of “You’re doing great, sweetie!” He may or may have not asked you to paint him,

♦️ which you politely declined. At first. And then you surprised Cater with the big portrait of him as a birthday present,

♦️ Cater may not know much about art, but when he hears you speaking about paintings so passionately, he can’t help but smile with admiration. So he knew that he absolutely had to take you to the art museum on a date,

♦️ he did try and learned few little facts to surprise you however he got everything mixed up
