Hello!! Hi!!! Just gonna uh. Pop in and ask if you’ve got any dgs thoughts. Maybe susato in particular because my brain is incapable of not thinking about how capcom did her a wee bit dirty etc etc but that’s most likely me being snippy 💀

Now you asked for my thoughts on Susato:

Susato is probably one of my favorite characters in the whole game. She’s so unique to most assistants (most games try to have the quirky upbeat assistant which often gets the “Maya clone” label, and even if I think that’s dumb and not the characters fault but the writing team and Capcoms fault for its mysoginistic writing choices, and also ‘Maya clone” is a dumb thing cause they are different), but she’s far more mature (we will get into that one..) but still has her various quirks, her very fun moments and she’s really fucking cool.

She’s great! She has so many cool little hobbies, such as martial arts and how she loves the Sherlock Holmes stories and is a little fan girl, how she genuinely has a big interest in law, and is really smart and just such a pleasant character with all her fun details. How she dresses up as a boy to save a friend and how loyal she is. How she has done stuff like tamper with a crime scene and evidence despite being so well versed in law. Augh. Her interactions with others are so fun; she should throw more ppl it’s funny.

Okay now that I’ve gushed about her. I feel like she is done dirty in the game. In terms of things that she goes through vs how much time she gets to spend on it vs other characters? Like her father left for england when she was born and had to shuffle back into her life 6 years later, her brother died and her literal idol FAKED HIS DEATH?? And she grieved him and he wasn’t dead her blorbo from the books just lost his still alive injured body in Hong Kong. Her father fakes an illness making her spend a month an a half on a boat for him not to be sick. That same brother was gonna take her to England on his assassination mission. What was she gonna do when he killed a man?? Idk!! She goes through it!!

And yet. And yet it’s like. Ah yes Susato our forgiving queen who doesn’t have any harsh angry feeling to anyone. Wow! So kind! Like I feel like she deserves to be angrier and meaner cause she gets a lot of things done to her that the male characters get to have moments about? Fucking absent parents is an ace attorney staple and it’s just kinda like. Well let’s brush it off now and let her kinda hang out while we talk to someone else! And I think there’s just some issues with the writing in general I did see a post that I will never find again. That made a good point how some of the later reveals would have been better if it were not Ryunouske who was the one to be confronting ppl or finding/revealing certain bits of info but do to Main Characterisms. And it might have hit harder if it were Susato or even Asogi due to familial ties in the story. I wish I could find the post they lay it out better

And I’m not gonna pretend this is Just a Susato problem cause alot of female characters tend to get the short end of the stick in ace attorney games. Think of the trilogy! Maya and Edgeworth go through very similar traumas and yet the writing let’s Edgeworth go through it while Maya doesn’t get the same treatment. She’s the assistant she doesn’t have time to grieve her absent now dead mom. She’s making quips and eating burgerramen!! Same happens with Susato.

But overall I Love Susato. I have a few post canon AUs where she finally gets to have her issues be front and center. They aren’t fleshed out they are just a few drawings ideas I have that work and my dumb wrist issues have been preventing. I complain a lot but I do love her DEARLY… best assistant. Best Dgs character. Underrated by everyone

Chapter 15: What are you doing New Year’s Eve?

“DOLL HURRY THE FUCK UP IM HUNGry!”

Opening the door, she stares at Osamu as he finishes screeching. Hearing the door click, he turns suddenly, his face going from annoyed to immediately brightened.

“Y/N!” He says, his voice going high pitched as she giggles, giving him a quick hug, then hugging both Suna and Atsumu. Bending over slightly, Atsumu allows Y/N in his back, the 4 now traveling to a cafe with Y/N holding Suna and Osamu’s pinkies, Atsumu keeping his arms tight around her legs.

As the 4 eat, Y/N is quick to stare at Atsumu who has checked his phone about 6 times in the past 5 minutes of eating.

“Is there something you’d like to share with the class, Atsumu?” The boy drops his phone, his eyes immediately widening as he hears a small collision from where his phone was dropped. He picks it up, dusting it off and placing it down before looking at the girl across from him.

“One of my friends is around the area-“

“You have friends besides us?”

“SHUT UP Y/N!” He sighs, stabbing another piece of his meal with his fork as he looks at her again.

“I met her when we were partners for a project and we just clicked and stayed as friends.”

Suna and Y/N being oO-ing as Osamu pokes his side repeatedly, with Atsumu swatting his twin’ hand away quickly.

“Wait- a lady friend? What kind of sane female would deal with your piss ass willingly?”

“YOU DO!”

“No, I was forced by Mother Miya.”

After the endless bickering, Suna takes the check in hard, heading to the counter as the twins and Y/N wait outside.

“Would you guys mind if said lady friend joined us?”

Samu shook his head no, while Y/N also said no, speaking for herself and Suna who had just exited the doors of cafe.

After 2 minutes of waving, a new face comes towards the group with a smile and a wave. Atsumu waves back, going towards and and smiling.

“Guys this is Keiko, Keiko this is my twin Osamu, that’s Y/N, and then that one over there is Suna.”

Hearing his name, Suna’s eyes lifted, falling on the girl in front of him. His eyes widened, afterwards a quick smile following. Turning his eyes to his feet, he scratched the back of his head.

“Oh my god!” Y/N’s eyes widen as the girl, a smile immediately coming on her face.

“I love you’re earrings so much, Keiko!” Both girls smiled at eachother, Keiko getting on one knee.

“I have determined that you are sweet as fuck as that I want you to marry me.”

“I have determined that I accept.”

With Keiko getting up with help from Y/N, the two link arms, beginning to walk to their next destination. The boys blink repeatedly, staring at eachother then staring at the two girls giggling.

“Samu what the fuck just happened?”

“I don’t know Suna, I don’t fuckin know.”

The twins argue over the frog hat with Suna holding out his phone, getting content for his Instagram followers is what he says is “his only passion in life”. Covering her mouth, Y/N laughs, pulling out her phone with her other hand to see a text message.

“Who’s Keiji?” Keiko asks, Y/N’s eyes now facing hers.

“Well-“

“LET GO OF THE HAT YOU OLD MAN!”

“AT LEAST MY HAIR DOESN’T LOOK LIKE I GOT PISSED ON!”

“OH YEAH MR.MY BONES HURT AT PRACTICE CUZ I GOT ARTHRITIS! WHAT KINDA EXCUSE IS THAT?”

“BETTER THAN THAT SAD EXCUSE OF YOUR DYE JOB!”

Y/N’s eyes widen, gently grabbing Keiko’s wrist as the two back away from the boys. After being enough away, Y/N sighs, placing a strand of hair behind her ear.

“Long story short, best friend of 3 years, I liked him for 3 years, confessed and got denied, and now we just talked a few days ago after like a month of not speaking and it being awkward.”

“Well I mean, do you still like him?”

“Uh-“

“Alright lads, let’s bounce.” Atsumu says, walking up with Suna and Osamu behind him, the girls looking at eachother before nodding.

The 5 enter a small pizzeria, with Atsumu and Keiko’s stomachs growling as soon as they entered. The 5 laughed, with Y/N handing her jacket to Suna while she went to order with Osamu.

“Hi! Can I get a large cheese pizza with a side of-“

“Suna?”

Hearing his name, he lifted his head, looking at the other two at his table to see them also looking around. Turning to look at the door, he sees Kaori with her fellow manager, along with their very own setter and ace.

“Oh, hi guys.” Suna says with a wave. Atsumu and Keiko look up to see who Suna was talking too, with Atsumu smiling and Keiko giving a shy wave.

“Hey! You guys are just eating?”

“Yeah, Samu and Y/N are ordering now.” Atsumu says, pointing over it to the counter with Y/N poking Osamu’s cheeks.

“Cool, well enjoy your meal! We should totally hang out sometime!” Bokuto says, following Yukie to go to a table, with Kaori dragging a tired Akaashi along.

Plopping down, Kaori and Bokuto look at eachother before nodding, sitting straight back up.

“I can feel 3 pairs of eyes on me, what.”

“Akaaaashiiii, don’t you think it would be nice to, oh I don’t know, please can we invite them ice skating?” Yukie says, staring at him with large eyes from across the table.

“Are you asking my permission or are you asking me to do it, because I’m very comfy.” He murmurs, his head laying in his arms.

“I’ll go ask!” Bokuto says, getting up while the other girls nod. Akaashi sighs, rubbing his eyes carefully as to not irritate his contacts as Bokuto walks to their table.

With the twins messily eating, and the rest starring st them as if they were pigs, Y/N sees another figure approaching, smiling at Bokuto.

“Hi Bo! They told me you were here, what’s up? How ya been?” Y/N asks, wiping her hands on a napkin before looking back at him.

“I’m well, thank you! So the rest of us were wondering if you 5 wanted to come with us to go ice skating? Obviously we haven’t met you yet,” he says as he gestured to Keiko, “however any friend of Y/N’s somehow becomes a friend of ours! And I’m not complainin’!” Bokuto says, his hands landing on his hips with a bright smile.

Looking at Suna and the girls, Osamu nodded, turning his eyes back to Bokuto as he smiled.

“We’ll be there.”

Lacing up her skates, Y/N got on the ice and began to skate around, seeing some of her friends on the ice while Atsumu and Bokuto were still on the bench trying to figure out how to tie them.

“Sometimes I’m shocked he’s a third year.”

Turning around, Y/N faces Akaashi with a small smile on both of their faces.

“It surprises me as well.” She said, both of them beginning to skate next to eachother. With Akaashi looking around at the lights, Y/N turns her eyes to face him.

To her, it was strange. To not feel the butterflies, the rollercoaster in her stomach each time he said hello.

“You excited to see the fireworks?”

“Yeah, it’ll be fun to ring in the New Year with you guys.” Akaashi says, a smile coming to his face as he looks back at Y/N.

The two turn straight, Bokuto waving over Y/N as she nods, getting ready to skate towards him.

“Hey, Kaashi?”

“Hm?” He says, turning back towards her.

“Save me a seat.” She says, giving him a small wave and proceeded to skate towards Bokuto, said male waving and beginning to skate as she caught up.

The pair speak amongst themselves, speaking of their holiday and upcoming plans for New Years. For a few minutes, Bokuto surprisingly goes quiet, prompting Y/N to nudge his side.

His eyes turn towards hers, curiosity on his face.

“Hey, I just had a question.”

“Yeah, shoot.”

Bokuto’s eyes face forward as she still looks at him, his eyes turning again as he nudges his head. Y/N’s eyes follow in the direction to see Osamu skating with Kaori and smiling.

“Does Osamu like you?”

Feeling a pair of eyes on him, Osamu turns, seeing Y/N staring at him. He smiles, giving her a wave then returns back to his conversation with Kaori.

“I’m sorry, what?”

“And there’s one minute on the clock folks!”

The group of friends all sit huddled together in the cold, while other bystanders around them buzz with excitement, confetti and snow flying around already.

Kaori shows Y/N tiktoks, with Akaashi occasionally looking over her shoulder, the uproar of the already booming noise blasting.

i believe this was the first abo fic i added to my bookmarks. story time: many, many moons ago, i kept track of my reading list. i was doing that “50 books a year” thing so it was mostly for tracking that, but i had another tab for fics, because i read few enough that i could track them. i rated things and sometimes left notes, and by all the abo ones i was like “don’t tell anyone i read this.” yes, i shamed myself for liking abo. it was a dark time in my life.

anyway, then i read this, and was like, all right i can see what’s going on here.

this is a great fic for multiple reasons, and the format is one. it’s written as dialogue-only transcripts from their experiment. it’s hard to make that kind of format work, but pm_lo ain’t fucking around.

the non-binary tag, just like the trans tags in general, are a house half-built and left to rot in the rain. even if that wasn’t true, this series is goddamn amazing. also there’s rimming. also there’s a line in there that said something like “they don’t dislike their body, it just never felt like theirs” and i had a lightbulb moment irt my own experience. did dean ever wear carharrt in the actual series? if not, mistakes have been made.

there are a lot of great fake dating stories out there, but this one takes the cake (or, at least, a slice of it). also, i cried a lot rereading this, both “ohhh god i love their love” tears and also “ohhhh god this hurts so bad” tears.

PS - annie d is writing marvel fic lately and i’m sure it’s fantastic if you’re into that kind of thing.

Everything I love about Assassin’s Creed

1. Ezio da la la la

2. If you idle for long enough in Odyssey Ikaros comes and lands on Alexios’s/Kassandra’s arm and then alexios/Kassandra will greet him.

3. Edward’s outfit is by far my favourite Assassin robe. It looks so fooking cool.

4. Alkibiades

5. The first mission in Assassin’s Creed III. Finding the temple and it coming alive with all the lights and the humming was so fucking cool and the theatre with Haytham was such a good way to start the game, I loved the environment that went with the theatre and the parkour was really good too, everything was good even though I had no idea why we were there in the first place lol.

6. SHAUN HASTINGS

7. Edward’s tattoos being the only reason why I go whaling in AC:Black flag

8. The dynamic between Jacob and Evie, I’ve always wanted a twin duo in a game and Jacob and Evie Frye were awesome and y’all keep sleeping on them.

9. The different colour schemes in Assassin’s Creed 2 for the different cities gave the locations their own feel and vibe and it differentiated them from each other while also ensuring that the landscapes were utterly gorgeous. For example, Venice had cooler colours, very blue and silver while Florence was warmer, with more orange and brown thrown into the mix. It really gave those maps their own identity and it was great.

10. All of Lineage. all of it, it was flipping fantastic and I know it’s not a game but it was brilliant and the other Assassin’s Creed movie will never top it despite Michael Fasbender being in it.

11. That cutscene in Black Flag where Blackbeard lights his beard on fire, I love that historical accuracy because it was very likely true and it’s so SO bad-fucking-ass

20. The hookblade was actually amazing in Revelations and I’m in full support that it shouldbe brought back. The noise it made was also oddly satisfying too?

21. The Glyphs in AC2 were spooky and ominous and I refused to do the last mission until I had found all of them and uncovered the Truth. Because that entire side quest was full of anticipation and the creepy vibe the Glyphs gave off and how the footage of Adam and Eve was cut up and glitchy was just really interesting and it peaked with a climax.

24. And Alexios just being an overall gorgeous human being who’s face was chiselled by the gods.

25. The flying machine mission in AC2 while really aggravating if you didn’t do it the first time was also really fun and getting to see Leonardo all giddy and happy made it worth it.

I don’t know if it’s just me? but Connor’s hair? like I know for a fact that I like men with long hair but something about his hair and the feather intertwined into it was just really appealing? and while I know why Connor shaved his hair I couldn’t help but screech when he did lmao but that’s because it’s obviously not my tradition and it’s abnormal to me. pfft

27. Revelations is one of the best AC games and I’ll fight anyone on this. It was phenomenal given how it finally concluded Ezio’s story (and remember Ezio was the face of the franchise for years and he was fan favourite and still is so there were some pressure and expectations) and how it also concluded Altair’s story.

28. Altair wasn’t that interesting in the original game but Revelations added depth and layers to his characters and made him way more intriguing. The game also gave this character important significance to the lore and I think that’s the perfect way to honour the guy who started it all. As much as we love Ezio, Altair came before and without him, Assassin’s Creed wouldn’t quite be the way it was today. (although it’s up to you if that’s a bad thing or not lmao)

29. And seeing Ezio old and matured, becoming this wise legend of a man was really cool and getting to play as him in his final journey was both heartbreaking but satisfactory.

30. I have to give a massive applause to Ubisoft for making Leonardo gay as well in Brotherhood prominently. I don’t think it was ever proven historically if he was? but it was rumoured? and yet Ubisoft went and made it canon giving that representation while also having Ezio outright say he’s okay with Leonardo dating men?! Like, in that time period if you were gay you could go to prison and the general view of homosexuality was that of disgust and yet Ezio is just here supporting his best friend? hell yes.

47. Bayek being a breath of fresh air in wonderfully written complex characters whose story was powerful and tragic. He needs a sequel.

48. Assassins Creed Brotherhood’s trailer being iconic.

49. When returning to Florence to retrieve the apple and you bring Ezio back to his old home only to see the ghosts of his entire family waiting for him. I was gobsmacked when that happened and it’s such a beautiful detail.

50. Mary Read/James Kidd being one of the best characters in Black Flag and leader in the ‘did not deserve it’ club. Every minute of her was flipping terrific and her significance in Edward’s story as one of the driving points that turned him into a better man was great.

52. The little text about Shaun sobbing when you look at the database on Desmond the dog in Syndicate.

What's wrong with the Arc V manga? I've never read it and I want the deets.

what’s wrong with the arc v manga? everything, tbh.

everything sprinkled with a big dose of gross. (spoilers) the entire plot of the manga runs on the mystery of yuya’s lost memory and the main villain’s (literal) lust to get her boyfriend back (her name’s eve, btw. take a guess at what her boyfriend’s name is). eve, for some reason that I DONT REMEMBER WAS EVER EXPLAINED (or if it was, it was very vague), claims that yuya has something called ‘the adam factor’ (she also claims reiji has this. why? i don’t know why.) so naturally she pursues yuya, sending her ‘assassins’ after him to defeat him in a duel and “claim” the adam factor back so she can revive her dead boyfriend (who, we later find out, wanted to be dead. with a girlfriend like eve, gee i wonder why). a lot of nothing happens throughout the story (note: yuya and reiji are from the future because reasons— basically the main thing you should know is travelling through time caused yuya’s amnesia, but not for reiji. reiji’s fine, he remembers things just fine.), the other three yuu boys are inexplicably stuck inside yuya’s body FROM THE START (and, surprise, they never separate at all lol, in fact it’s heavily implied they’re dead and just spirits possessing their, waaaaaaait for it, youngest brother: yuya). yuya meets yuzu at the beginning of the story, the yuu boys RECOGNIZE HER, but DECIDE NOT TO TELL HIM ANYTHING ABOUT WHO SHE IS (this is important for later). throughout the manga, there are numerous amounts of ship tease MAINLY between yuya and yuzu (including a grope scene. yup. yuya groped yuzu.), to the point that by the end of the manga, yuzu has a very noticeable crush on yuya. but by then, yuya’s regained his memories via deus ex machina bullshit: he remembers that what he’s been calling his “other personalities” were in fact actually his brothers: yuto, yugo, and yuri (and yes, that is their birth order). blah blah blah, final battle ensues that was a total let down and is just reduced to the usual tropes of “oh the big bad wasn’t really bad after all, just corrupted by some ‘human’ selfish desire, and then they are TOTALLY redeemed”. yuya vs reiji happens, it’s over the top but not in the good arc v way. and then we get to the ending.

so... remember that yuya’s from the future, right? welp, he now remembers that yuzu is his mom. might i point out now that the yuuboys KNEW who she was (their mom) and allowed yuzu (their mom) and yuya (yuzu’s son) to FLIRT with one another. constantly. tease each other. even yuri half flirts with her too.

yuzu’s about to confess to yuya but yuya stops her, tells her they’re fated to meet again (OH BOY WHAT FATE), and gives yuzu his ace card: Not Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon. you know, the card that symbolizes yuya himself. 

bonus: we find out that SOMEHOW, SOMEWAY, even though he’s DEAD, yugo has a DECENDANT (it’s not clear if it’s his son, grandson, great-grandson, whatever. but he looks like an older yugo so...). reiji blames yuya for his dad’s death even tho he knows yuya had nothing to do with it, like the logical man reiji is known to be. sora sucks. sora just fucking sucks in this manga. and he has a sister for his obligatory man pain. shun. shun is there. has one duel. and fucks off for the rest of the manga. he’s at first there being the token duelist masochist and then he completely fucks off. shingo’s there and to it’s shitty credit, the manga didn’t ruin him. he’s just there being shingo, which is fine.

oh yeah, ABOUT THEM YUU BOYS: you liked their personality in the anime?! they cool, right?! cuz they have meaningful relationships, ambitions, and motivations besides each other right! well. guess. what. they all have one personality and that is “Love Yuya” 24/7. they don’t have any other relationships or motivations or ambitions besides Protect Yuya. and that’s it. they suck.

Leo Akaba is a brown man. That is anime canon. what, you thought the manga couldn’t possible make him white?! lmao u thought.

yuya is just plain fucking insuffferable in this manga. if he wasn’t so cute and good looking (bless you miyoshi-san for your beautiful art, the manga is not worthy) then i definitely would hunt down every single copy of this manga on the earth’s surface and burn it personally. he looks good but that’s about it. actually, i would love it if he would have died in this manga. why didn’t he die. god, why do you forsake us so. yuya in the manga is -130% what the original from the anime is and i do not recognize him as yuya sakaki, rather he is an imposter. just some other character wearing yuya’s face. nothing alike. yuya’s real evil twin.

uhhh kenny isn’t GREAT, i know that that varies from person to person but i personally don’t think he’s a good dude. back when he first won the iwgp heavyweight championship off of kazu, he had an interview where he said that the “local” (japanese) talent were complacent and lazy and the gaijin wrestlers (the only ones he mentioned being white, ofc) were just hungrier and wanted it more and people like naito and evil were very rightfully pissed off. 2018 best (and some worst)

2018 was the shittiest year of my life personally and I was a trainwreck almost instantly. I was real hopeful going in, but I got my heart broken as badly as I could get (and it somehow just kept getting worse). Ugh. Dan Carlin is the one you can enjoy if you’re on ANY political spectrum—and the Dollop is not too far behind; that’s truly the most special when it hits.

Vince Mancini (Filmdrunk/Uproxx) has an annual best list on the best investigative/true crime podcasts each year that are the best lists I’ve seen. Best Dollop Episodes of the Year (must-listens on serious subjects): Donald Trump; the Resnicks: Water Monsters; George HW Bush; John McCain; Wells Fargo; Erik Prince & Blackwater 

The above subjects deal with subjects to be genuinely outraged about versus faux things to be outraged about everyday (Russia; Louis CK or what a comic said) and the way the media talks or ignores subjects completely. The way it’s done is so great (Dave reading a topic coldly while his friend interjects with commentary—and then in the end coming together with a South Park-esque take on what the fuck is happening)

Other: Feinstein and the Flag; Levittown: the White Suburb Funniest episode of the Dollop:  1908 New York to Paris Car Race (live w/ James Adomian). Hands down the funniest. Dave purposely saved a great one for the fucking great and underrated James Adomian.

I can tune in and out of some Dollop episodes, but when it goes in on a subject or has a particular guest, you know it’s going to hit.

Biggest regret and disappointment: Moving my ‘ex’ into my friend’s house in January (with the hope that I’d be living there half the time too)—only for her to end up wanting NOTHING at all to do with me that same day after I helped her unpack out of nowhere, threaten suicide in a non-joking manner in front of her new roommates and my friend after a political argument at the end of the first night she moved in, get with someone we work with behind my back almost instantly (a bland and lame cokehead who got busted for cocaine 18 months prior and faced 7 years in jail), try to fuck my friend when I was mid-conversation with them both first time seeing her 3 months after it all ended—and for her to eventually date my friend’s roommate who my friend warned me would try and fuck her but I didn’t take seriously because I thought he wasn’t good looking, tiny, just vaped all day long, and kind of a douche. Cool. Awesome.

I mean, that’s a simplistic breakdown of it all and how I feel about it when I’m angry. It’s more complex and fucked up than that and I could write a book on it to elaborate my thoughts, good and bad. It’s genuinely heartbreaking to articulate it and I withheld that from her:  part of the reason why I moved her into my friend’s place (she didn’t know him or anybody) was because I wanted her in my life and didn’t want to lose her. Instead, it felt like I locked myself out of a party, I’m banging on the door and it’s cold outside, but nobody hears me. It’s just that feeling constantly. At the same time, it’s also very simple: she just wasn’t that into me, valued me, gave a damn, respected me, or cared. It’s NOT as angry or mean as it sounds. It just is what it is. Do NOT move the person you’re seeing into a friend’s place. If it doesn’t work out, make sure you can get a clean break. Oh, and probably do NOT date at work if you can until you know one of you is leaving (or, in my case, she leaves 10+ months after it’. I fucked both up and it’s been impossible to move on. Thankfully, she just left work 2 weeks ago and there’s less anxiety, mental work (thinking about her all the time which I still do but it’s not on maximum overdrive) and tiny heartbreaks each day. I mean, I was devastated when she told me she was leaving and there was finality. I miss her and have missed her all this time, but it’s a good thing: there was nothing I was getting out of it. But still: why did she say yes to moving into MY friend’ s place if she was just going to do a 360 heel turn, be an asshole and resentful towards me out of nowhere, never bother seeing the place I moved into/what I did with it?. Just a disaster of my own creation. I like to think in time I’ll get over it all and move on. I highly doubt I’ll ever see or talk to her again. I refuse to ever go back to my friend’s house for a variety of reasons and I had those thoughts even before the Cinco de Mayo party, but definitely after. I just don’t belong there and it hurts. And I know she’s uncomfortable too if I’m there even if she says otherwise.

Best thing personally: my brother got married, his wedding, friends, and my family. It’s cool to see my brother have his life together, be married into an awesome family, and meet a nice girl. I’ve seen my brother have his heartbreaks, but it’s nice to see him finally have peace and consistency. He’s got a really great house near where the Pats play (closer than where we’d park to games), works 4 days a week and makes bank too. 

BIGGEST CHANGES I MADE moved out to a place of my own in late January-it’s my uncle’s 3-decker, which he intends to pass on to me. So I’m saving $ by being here and it’s decent. The drawback is that it’s 3rd floor and inhospitable during the summer when it’s an oven with no windows where they should be to put an AC unit in (I just stayed at my parents: I would have toughed it out but I desperately need sleep for school). But yeah, I’m over 30 and needed a place of my own. I’d love to live in Boston, but it’s completely fucking unaffordable unless you work 2-3 jobs.

One annoying thing: my driveway gets egged EVERY day since May. We have fake cameras, but pretty sure it’s the next-door neighbor and not some punk kids on their way to school. It is enraging. Who eggs a house everyday? And it’s literally only my car or the lady next to me, not even close to the street. I keep on looking at the trajectory of the eggs and it’s fucking ridiculous. Luckily, because of school (and because I was away during the summer), the egging doesn’t happen until after 8-10 AM.

I’m 10 minutes from my parent’s place (halfway to my workplace and gym as a cut-off place), 5 minutes from the school I attend, and centrally located to things I want to be (Boston, my brother, Cape Cod, possible job changes or to where I intend to move if I can)… went to school to be an electrician-In school 715 to 1245 Monday-Friday. Pain in the ass schedule and tiring, but a big change. I suck at being handy. Most people are sons of people in the trade or went to trade school. Then there’s me: never picked up a drill or a hammer. But I’m working on it. 

I mean, the job IS risky (it’s not an office job) and any job outside of going back to school for a master’s or doctorate to get ahead (I fucking tried!) requires backbreaking manual work that breaks you down in most cases (construction, plumbing and smelling bad to even fixing cars where I hear that breaks your body down). Being an electrician seemed like the least of them all unless you want to be a linesman stuck outside no matter the weather for National Grid or down in manholes—because they pay REALLY well (most people in class actually want those jobs without reservations). I’m fine with being paid pretty well while enjoying myself. I’ll stay away from something monotonous like solar panels or being on a roof all day though.

Jiu-Jitsu-did this for 3 months and loved it. Had to take a break because I can only do weekends and it’s expensive. And I’m too exhausted for 9 AM class come Saturday. After a 6 AM to 12AM schedule M-F, I just completely fucking crash come Saturday. I fully intend on going back and doing yoga too when I finish school in July. 

Most people start doing jiu-jitsu because of Joe Rogan. My answer got a laugh. ‘Yeah, I wanted to try something new. Also, I watched John Wick about a 100 times.’

Therapy-post ‘break-up’ I realized I needed help. I spent a month in February not being able to fall asleep (maybe 24 hours sleep in 3 weeks) before I finally got meds. About a million waking nightmares (holy shit that’s a thing). Constantly crying, particularly on the weekends without her, separation anxiety and just anxiety that did not go away at all: a constant weight. We had a Jim-and-Pam relationship at work, even when it was over—but once she started dating my friend’s roommate, she distanced herself more than ever and it was just fake as fuck. I was frustrated with not finding a job to not passing a test that I studied my ass for 3+ months for that would allow me to leave my job AND the girl. They threw in shit that was not on the study guide at all in the test. Blah. I punched a hole through my bedroom wall (like they do in the movies) and fucked up my hand a bit. 

But yeah, I’m working on my confidence, following through with my goals, challenging myself, making adjustments, facing fears, getting over my anxiety, relationships. I’m proud of how, even without therapy, I handled the girl who was cold and distant: I was ALWAYS warm and welcoming, had a good attitude about it with her. It wasn’t a point of pride to be that way; I just was. If I was around her, the hurt just kind of all faded, however briefly. In the back of my head I wanted to light her the fuck up for how she was acting or NOT acting, but I just didn’t. But it’s hard. I am depressed all the time, but not nearly as overwhelming as I was. I’m really lonesome—and I want to reach out, but I don’t know to who a lot of the time. I feel left out and it’s hard to maintain relationships, but I am trying. It’s hard at 32 but people fade away. You think you’re wiser and more mature that it won’t happen, but it does. It’s just harder to make friends, I guess. I ruminate all the time and think too much. I’m trying to be mindful and in the moment. But I keep on thinking about all the things I’m NOT doing or the things I’m waiting for to happen. But there’s always going to be that. I am doing a LOT and the changes aren’t coming all at once. I like my therapist (I had one when I was in 5th grade and again when I was 19: I didn’t like them: finding a therapist that fits you is the biggest thing)

I realized a lot of the problems I had were patterns even going back to the heartbreak I felt at 18-20 when I was the worst mess I ever was. It wasn’t the girl who broke my heart, but it was me. I should have been better and stronger far before I met her. I wasn’t really living I don’t think. In some ways, I gave up and was sleepwalking through things. But everything I thought I was past just bubbled to the surface. And I had to get it right, something needed to change, and I needed help.

I withheld my problems from everybody because I didn’t want to be a burden. I especially did NOT want to be depressing but I think I became a burden for the girl who broke my heart. She had nothing to give and she was upset at me for talking to her at work and being cheerful, telling stories, or anything. Secretly, I was a mess and it was painful. In a way, I was denying myself and that made it worse.

Here’s the thing: I don’t think I’m that big of a mess. I might be lonely, but I got a good head, attitude, and people generally like me. I make people laugh easily and without trying. I got a lot going for me and I got support.

Tattoos -got the lighthouse tattoo I always wanted since I was 18. I didn’t believe a tattoo artist could carry out my idea. Liked the tattoo artist so much that I stretched it out into a full sleeve. I want to do more and have some ideas. We’ll see.

Other-new car; collecting board games; got tour posters and Pats memorabilia framed WORST POLITICAL: the chaos that comes with Trump-Well, that hasn’t changed. I’ll hate the GOP/Republicans and that goes without saying. I have some small hope with people like Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez, but I don’t have any faith in the Democratic party at fucking all: they will rather work with Republicans than work with people who actually want to make an actual change. You kind of just realize how shitty a party they and Obama were and how they are bought/paid for and resistant to any meaningful change. We are fucked.

LOOK AHEAD TO 2019: -finishing school in July and starting new career as electrician -cousin’s wedding and going to Las Vegas for a bachelor party (I’m more psyched for the awesome house we are staying in than Vegas itself) -Pats playoff run and possible end of Brady-Gronk: I’m not hopeful, but I’m going to enjoy my favorite Boston athletes of my lifetime. Couldn’t ask for anything more from them. I just wish Bill Belichick did a better job as a GM and not fucking up nearly every draft since 2006 besides 2010 and 2012. They’ve won 5, but feels like Belichick cost the Pats 3-5 more minimum. Every year you have Tom Brady, you’re in the AFC Championship or Super Bowl. Belichick and Patricia mailed in the Eagles Super Bowl on defense. WTF was that? -doing jiu-jitsu, yoga, taking up swimming, continue following through on my gym program: my goal is to delay having a bad back as long as possible. I’m in the best shape of my life by far, so that’s good. I want to cut some of my gut weight out though: when I bend down to put on my work boots, I feel it. -more tattoos? -dating again (I am struggling so BADLY with online dating and need to work on having better pics: I can’t get a single match/date) -looking at buying a condo or home. I’ve got about $100K saved up and just slowly collecting things in my apartment for the big transition. Still would like to see where I end up working. Ideally, I’d love to have a lake house somewhere decent and centralized.

5. Is there any significance behind their hair color?

Not really, I’ve just always liked white hair. Like. When I was 10, before I ever saw any anime or anything with a white haired character, I was like “wow, white hair is cool. I wish I had white hair.”

1. What was the first element of your OC that you remember considering (name, appearance, backstory, etc.)?

This is so funny for me to look back on, but Jasper’s very earliest iteration was me doing my own take on a ghost/dragon type pokemon in 2006, before one ever existed. Hardly anything about him has remained the same since then, aside from him being pale and ghostly with white hair, and him having some sort of a mentor/student relationship with Murdoc. He’s now a shapeshifter, but his shifted form still deviates considerably from his origins. It took me three years to give him a name, and longer to figure out his backstory. His backstory ended up becoming his Story Story, and it erased the person that he was supposed to become. He used to have a sort of Fall From Grace And Become Evil deal, but now he’s just. really angry and hurt at worst. He doesn’t want to hurt anyone, even if he wishes ill upon people who hurt him. Otherwise though, he’s very shy, very sweet, and just wants people to like him. Its fun too because he’s also basically possesses the most raw power of any OC I have who isn’t some sort of demi-god/deity figure.

11. Did you know what the OC’s sexuality would be at the time of their creation?

This wasn’t something I thought about when I was making him, since I was 12 and sex-repulsed. I still have issues with sexuality, and his issues have ended up reflecting mine in some ways. He’s extremely aro/ace and has huge issues with his own body and being touched. He was violated and had his youth stolen from him, tried to reclaim it, felt hollow, and gave up on it. He’s quite content now with where he is. I’m not exactly where he is, but his trauma and the fallout of it does reflect mine.

15. What is something about your OC can make you laugh?

Not really—as with most of my OCs, I’ll make fun of him with somebody I feel comfortable doing that with. In his case, I started something with Fish where I’m like “Imagine Murdoc doing XYZ” where XYZ is this serious, stoic, awkward man doing something extremely mundane or uncomfortable…or cute. I don’t know. Imagine Murdoc doing his taxes. Imagine Murdoc getting hit on by a single mom. Imagine Murdoc trying to get a tiny Jasper to tell the ice cream person what ice cream he wants. Imagine Murdoc in various parenting predicaments with this disaster of a child. Imagine him dealing with various issues with students as a college professor.

1. What was the first element of your OC that you remember considering (name, appearance, backstory, etc.)?

She also started out as just A Thing that I drew and began trying to figure out a role for. I don’t quite remember how I established her role, but just…based on the first thing I drew her as, I decided that she was exceptionally powerful. It was after that that I plugged her into the backstory of the universe as the source of the shapeshifters, and she basically became a demigod of sorts.

Her creature design came first, followed by her humanoid design, which I then heavily revised, and then heavily revised her creature design in turn. She used to be a blue swirly thing. Now she’s this thing very deliberately meant to be evocative of a snake and based specifically on a black mamba. She used to be all swirly and blue, and now she’s all flowy and black and grey.

3. How did you choose their name?

This feels sort of silly, but…her name started with me at 17 mashing up Lilith and Eve, which I’d turned into Eva, and then just adding an extra L for The Aesthetic. It’s a reference to her backstory, which is more or less just me taking potshots at Genesis. She basically plays the roles of Adam, Eve, Lillith, and the serpent all in one. Or two, since she’s literally split in two and rejoined at the end of the backstory. Nobody knows this, and she herself doesn’t remember it, so it’s not information that would ever be revealed in canon.

Beyond that, I wanted her to have a name that felt…very smooth and silvery, if that makes sense. Like liquid mercury. Like the name of somebody whose speech is like the breath of a breeze. Lleva seemed to be p fitting.

“He’s a house. He’s a home. He’s a yard and a family and picking kids up from school…he’s a future.”

“They say this man…this man has nothing left to give. And a man with nothing to give is a nothing man….This world has wasted me.”

Ominously directed by Gwyneth Horder-Payton and featuring absolutely stunning dialogue from series writer Tom Rob Smith, “Descent,” the sixth episode of The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story, is the first and only episode so far to steer entirely clear of murder and its aftermath. Yet somewhere between those two statements above — the first is a description of his beloved David Madsen to his friend Lizzie, the second a description of himself to a meth-induced nightmare vision of Gianni Versace — Andrew Cunanan dies. The old Andrew, anyway, the Andrew capable of warmth and charm and moments of honesty amid the lies. It’s not hard to identify the specific spark of vitality that gets snuffed out to make his dark rebirth into the new, lethal Andrew happen, either. When his hope dies, the old Andrew dies with it.

“Descent” depicts some of the final normal, happy moments of Andrew’s life, or at least as normal and happy as Andrew’s life ever really gets. In splendid fashion, it introduces us first to the high-rolling luxury lifestyle afforded him by his status as the live-in designer/decorator/boyfriend of his wealthy benefactor Norman Blachford (Michael Nouri, dignified and excellent), then to Norman himself, on the eve of a lavish birthday party being thrown in Andrew’s honor. There’s even a return to the slightly fisheyed lens that captured the Versace palace in Miami during the cold open of the premiere, a visual indicator of splendor that’s almost too big to be contained by the camera. At this point Cunanan is living like an idle member of a wealthy Game of Thrones house, lounging naked on the balcony before swimming naked in the pool while Laura Branigan’s shit-hot single “Self Control” gives him an air of anachronistic ’80s cool.

But even if this cold open doesn’t end with a murder the way the first episode’s did, it does end with this stark reminder of the horror soon to come.

How do we get there from here? A combination of factors. Like the dark clouds that loom in the background of the otherwise perfect party in the hills (a weather detail Horder-Payton makes subtle but stunning use of), trouble is brewing in paradise. Andrew is beginning to drive away his friend Jeff Trail with his constant embellishments and lies; in this case, they involve dummying up a fancy fake gift for Jeff to present him as a present in lieu of a real one, just so he looks better in front of David Madson, the would-be love of his life and the unwitting guest of honor at the party.

Andrew also forces Jeff into the painful position of pretending to still be an officer in the Navy, a wound you can see is still very raw with him. (“It just sounds so impressive.” “I know it does.” Oof.) “I just need him to see that I’m loved,” Andrew tells Jeff as he presents him the ringer gift. “I do love you, buddy!” Jeff says, attempting both to reassure Andrew that this is true and, it seems, reassure himself that Andrew deserves it.

This is a fixation for Cunanan, and not one he simply cites while forcing friends to be complicit in his lies. He’s more open and direct about it with Lizzie, when she asks him point blank “Who are you trying to be?” “Someone he can love,” he replies. The sadness here is deep enough to fill an in-ground pool. In his own weird way, he’s reaching out desperately for genuine affection. You can’t help but wonder if, had he been more genuine himself, he would have gotten it.

Meanwhile, Andrew’s relationship with Norman is beginning to sour, even relative to its already transactional nature. Smitten as he is with David, Andrew can’t help but become more obvious about his lack of interest in Norman and his attempt to woo his other man. Norman’s friend David Gallo (SNL vet Terry Sweeney, thoroughly delightful here) is a true queen of thorns, and he’s got Andrew’s number from the jump. The two men exchange catty, cutting insults like an antagonistic pair of characters in a sitcom, but it takes a turn for the serious when Gallo corners Andrew outside the bathroom where he’s just gotten high. Norman, Gallo says, built a company from scratch, then reeled with grief after watching his previous, more serious partner waste away and die from AIDS, a horror he feels Andrew couldn’t possibly comprehend. Gallo himself sounds like he’d rather die than see his friend hurt again, an innate core of decency that shines through all the Wildean put-downs and bon mots. “That room,” Andrew says as he withdraws from the confrontation, “is full of people who love me.” “Then that room is full of people who don’t know you,” Gallo calls after him.

And what does Andrew do after fleeing his enemy’s brutal read? He runs interference between David and Jeff, two people he ostensibly cares about, because he sees they’re hitting it off. There’s a great bit where Andrew cockblocks by mentioning Jeff’s boyfriend, who may or may not actually exists. “Is he still working at that mall?” he says with false good cheer. Without missing a beat, Jeff replies “…he works for a living, yes.” It’s not clear if Andrew, whom Gallo says is “too lazy to work, too proud to be kept,” realizes he’s just been insulted again. He then blows off none other than Lee Miglin, whose presence at the party makes it more difficult for Andrew to make his move on David. Finally he stages a photo op with Norman, Lee, David, and Jeff — “All the people I love!” Gallo was right, man. Gallo was right about all of it.

Anyway, at some point after the party Andrew presents Norman with a preposterous list of demands if he is to continue gracing the older man with his presence. Norman, firmly but not unkindly, replies by revealing that he knows everything Andrew has told him about his life, including his last name, is a lie. “You investigated me?” Andrew says indigantly. “Youinvestigated me,” Norman replies. He understands that Cunanan researched and targeted him to gain access to his wealth. The thing is, he doesn’t even really care! He cares more about the lies (“I already have a PhD.” “You do not have a PhD!”), the laziness (“What is it about having an education and the idea of work that you find so insulting?”), and the squandered potential (“Being smart is useless unless it’s in the service of something.”). So, despite his affection and admiration for Andrew, which is sincere despite it all, he breaks things off. In response, Andrew breaks a glass table. Violence is starting to creep in around the edges.

It bleeds through more strongly when Jeff comes to see Andrew in his new, barren apartment, furious that Cunanan sent a postcard to his parents’ house that nearly outed him. “How funny,” Andrew replies with a sneer. Jeff slams him up against a wall, ordering him to stay away from his family; “I never thought that you were capable of being violent,” Cunanan replies with self-righteous shock. But when he hears Jeff is moving to Minneapolis for a job David hooked him up with, his own command that Jeff stay away from David has the unmistakable tinge of violence to it as well. Andrew’s last-ditch attempt to spark something with David by blowing all his credit on an absurdly lavish hotel weekend, where even his attempts to be honest about his upbringing sound, sadly, like utter horseshit, is not enough to convince David that Andrew’s marriage material.

Then come the drugs — serious, shooting-up drugs — the hallucinations about Versace as a man who just got lucky while Andrew didn’t, and a scene straight out of Less Than Zero (the real-life Andrew’s favorite movie) in which he stumbles, fucked-up and desperate, through the hills and onto Norman’s estate, pounding on the glass door and begging for help as his ex calls the cops on him. Things are literally going downhill. That’s the difference between Versace and Andrew, according to the dream-Gianni: “I’m loved.” Andrew is not.

The episode ends where, perhaps, it has to: at Andrew’s mother’s place. She’s the one person who will always love him, in her own revolting way, but it’s love he doesn’t want, can barely stand. It’s painful to watch as she treats him like a child, sexualizes her care for him, uses his fake success in the costume-design industry as a cudgel with which to beat frienemies she resents, expresses horror at his assertion that he’ll never have children. She bathes him like baby, the inverse of his nude solo pool swim.

He leaves for his final rendezvous with Jeff and David the next day. His voice as he says “Goodbye, Mom,” is not harsh, but it’s hopeless. And what rough beast, its hour come round at last, slouches toward Minneapolis to be born?

All Out: The No-Longer-Secret Stories of Queer Teens Throughout the Ages

Review: 

I decided to review this anthology mostly because I loved it a lot but also because I have a lot of feelings about this anthology. (20GAYTEEN IS IN FULL POWER AND I’M LOVING IT)

Edited by Saundra Mitchell, this anthology was the queer historical fiction anthology I never knew I needed and that you absolutely will love. The collection of short stories vary in lengths and subjects, some have fantasy laced within them, others magical realism, and some are just historical romances that pack punches.

In the introduction, Mitchell explained the process with which she approached the making of this book, saying that she asked authors to provide a story that they wished they’d had when they were teens with queer characters. The one parameter was that they should take place before the year 2000 (the one exception was Sara Farizan’s, but I’ll get there). There were 17 stories in total, all stories completely different, therefore I am rating the book as a whole and then the stories individually. I’m putting them under a read more because it’s a Long Post.

Rosa by Anna-Marie McLemore (5/5) - I’m getting to a certain point in my life where my preferences are solidifying when it comes to which authors I’d buy books from without hesitation, and Anna Marie is one of those authors for me. I legitimately bought this anthology because I heard her story opened the entire book. I have no shame whatsoever. I felt so happy and full of love after finishing Rosa. It’s like she cradled me in her arms and laid me down on a bed of gentle flowers as the moonlight shone over us and whispered its protection. Like, she really had to write this into her story:

“They took you because you stayed for me,” I said, still keeping my voice to a whisper. “I am poison. Don’t you see that?” .... “You are here and I am alive.” Now his accent turned sharp, not his practiced Spanish. “So tell me what makes you poison.”

[FUCKING SLAY ME] [by the way, Anna-Marie said she may or may not be contemplating writing a full-novel based on this story so AAAAA]

The Sweet Trade by Natalie C. Parker (4.5/5) - In this story, we see runaway brides, the promise of piracy brewing, as well as two women embracing each other’s company away from the patriarchal notions that their time held. I thought it was well-written, knocked it out of the park for me.

And They Don’t Kiss At The End by Nilah Magruder (4/5) - Magruder wrote a short and sweet little story about a black girl avoiding a boy she may or may not like just because she doesn’t feel adequate about her sexuality. It was a really neat exploration of the inner arguments someone who’s ace, but doesn’t have the vocabulary yet for it, might be having. It  also features rollerskating, which is a cool thing I’d never seen in a story.

Burnt Umber by Mackenzi Lee (5/5) - This story made me cringe so much but it was a testament of how well the author can write secondhand embarrassment. Lee managed to inject feeling into her witty dialogue, and it made me want to finish The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue. Revolving around a young Dutch painter having trouble with his human anatomy lessons and the fit young men in his life, the story is full of colors and fumbling artistes. 

The Dresser and the Chambermaid by Robin Talley (4/5) - I liked Talley’s piece, which isn’t surprising because she strikes me as a great writer. I haven’t read any of her books (YET) but I’ve been thinking about it for a while because she gets a lot of praise. I think with this one it solidified my desire to read her books because I really loved this period piece. It gave me some The Handmaiden vibes when they met, but it was sweet and it became more of soft British period film (it even had a cameo of King George I).

New Year by Malinda Lo (4/5) - I was already familiar with Malinda Lo’s writing from reading Ash a year ago. This piece was as lowkey and muted as Ash was, perhaps even more so which is astonishing since most of the story takes place in a hectic Chinese New Year’s celebration in San Francisco’s Chinatown. Following a girl who is still trying to figure out her sexuality and is seeing a woman in drag for the first time with a fine woman by her side, Lo managed to talk about diaspora among Chinese immigrants in San Francisco as well as their culture. It also speaks about the internalized homophobia a queer person of color has to deal with after exposure to so much externalized homophobia.

Molly’s Lips by Dahlia Adler (4/5) - Who knew a story about two grunge best friends living through Kurt Cobain’s suicide as well as mourning his death could be so sweet. Also, best friends to lovers? Yes, please!

The Coven by Kate Scelsa (3.5/5) - I hadn’t realized I’d already read one of her books (Fans of the Impossible Life) until after I finished the book. I didn’t mind this story as much as her previous book, but then again, this book was set in Paris and had a cameo from Gertrude Stein. The story was confusing, and I’m sure that if I reread it I might get it, but for now I shall be confused for a while.

Every Shade of Red by Elliot Wake (5/5) - Elliot Wake’s story was a standout for me; I’m still thinking about it and wondering what’s happening to the characters after that tumultuous ending??? I loved the imagery, the characters, the retelling, even the antagonists (I mean, I hope they die, but they were compelling)! Hey Elliot, why’d you have to do me like this? Tell us about Robin’s fate, I beg of you.

Willows by Scott Tracey (4/5) - Willows is a short story that takes place sometime around the Salem Witch Trials, but in the case of Tracey’s piece it revolves around a boy who’s been cursed and can remember the memories of other cursed people who’d been killed for witchcraft. This was another story that left me confused by the end, yet it was so well-written that I wasn’t mad.

The Girl With The Blue Lantern by Tess Sharpe (5/5) -  I liked Tess Sharpe’s story, it mixed historical fiction and fantasy, which is one of my favorite things to see. It reminded me of what I’ve read of Rae Carson’s Gold Seer trilogy (I’ve only read a few chapters of Walk On Earth a Stranger though), but it was mixed with some sort of mermaid mythology that made it stand apart. I’m glad that Orianna said the gold isn’t Ella’s to take; it made me wonder how different the story would be if it had more of a critique of how the Gold Rush decimated native communities in California.

The Secret Life of a Teenage Boy by Alex Sanchez (3.5/5) - Listen, I’m on record hating Boyfriends with Girlfriends, and I’m still not sure of how I feel about this story, but I liked the writing I guess. It wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be, having some redemptive qualities (Cuban-American family, sibling shenanigans). But I still didn’t like it that much (he really went and wrote a 16 year old kissing a college student and almost had them runaway after JUST meeting). I don’t know what else to say without being mean. 

Walking After Midnight by Kody Keplinger (4.5/5) - This story made me want to make a short film out of it, maybe in black and white, following these two girls who chanced upon meeting after Betsey misses her train.It was lovely and fitting for a story revolving a girl who may be an ace lesbian (? at least that’s how I interpreted her). 

The End of the World As We Know It by Sara Farizan (4/5) - I have many thoughts about Sara Farizan’s books but I found this story okay. It was well-written and she did a good job of building up the relationship between the two main characters. The story was set on New Years’ Eve pre-Y2K, which is what I mentioned earlier in the post. 

Three Witches by Tessa Gratton (3.5/5) - This story was... interesting. It’s set in a convent in Castile during the 16th century, and the main character was sent there by her brother. I said other stories’ endings confused me, but none more than this one. Was it implying the silent nun was the Virgin? IDK, it was strange. Also, the author’s been accused of sexual harassment so I’m not giving the story much weight.

The Inferno & the Butterfly by Shaun David Hutchinson (4.5/5) - I haven’t read any of his books but I’ve heard they’re great, so I’m glad I got a taste of his writing here. His story follows two magicians assistants who have been neglected and abused by their bosses. One of the boys has magic powers of teleportation, but believes it to be a curse. I thought that was compelling, seeing as usually queer characters believe their sexualities are curses (which is actually something that’s seen in some of the stories in this anthology), and actually their sexuality wasn’t seen as strange at all. Kinda maddening that this is still a thing even in a short story collection about queer characters. 

Healing Rosa by Tehlor Kay Mejia (5/5) - From well-known author of queer characters of color to an up-and-coming author of queer characters of color, we went full circle in this anthology. Closing out the collection, Mejia provides a tale of a girl in New Mexico grieving the loss of her curandera abuela as well as her girlfriend. A tale that weaves magical realism into themes of cultural and generational trauma and embracing your culture and those around you in order to heal, I loved it. I think it goes hand in hand with Anna-Marie MClemore’s, especially since both touch on the traumas of war on the oppressed.

FaMniversary IV Reivew (Spoilers...Obviously...Scrubs <_<)

Alright… wait what am I doing and where is my webcam.. Wait what… I can’t do a live reaction?? Then how the fu- *sighs* forget it I guess I’ll just type… *sighs*

Hello there whomever is reading this. I have a lot of names in this community but for the sake of it just call me Ryan as I will be reviewing “The Biggest Show in WWE Games yet” FaMniversary IV. First off you really have no idea how pissed I was that I couldn’t watch this live let alone live react to it I haven’t done one since Survival but hopefully by CyberFaMday that’ll change but I guess if I can’t do what I do best might as well do the 2nd best thing and that’s write a whole review of this 5 hour extravaganza… that may or not come out before the Fammy Awards. But in all seriousness keep your hands and feet in the ride at all times as a bit of a disclaimer if I come across rude or bashing or “hating” I’m giving my genuine opinion of the show as a fan of the overall show and probably couldn’t even fathom the work that goes in to make a show like this from graphics, matches promos, etc. Its insane what you guys have managed to pull off and keep going. Kicking off the show with the Tag Team Turmoil match now going into it I thought it was just the 4 teams Britmen, Skilled Foundation, The Mafia, and the Resurrgence but come to find out the were other teams which I didn’t mind at all although it was obvious the 3 teams were the main focus on but adding Bryan Vore again was hilarious and letting the Review competition winner apart of it as well was a nice touch for the guy. Once The SF came in that’s where I believe “business picked up” with the story telling aspect and tag team psychology with The SF targeting Mexi’s leg which would come in handy later on to bite him in the ass as they were able to eliminate the Skilled Foundation but then had to deal with The Britmen and that was a freaking clinic after the regular performance we’ve seen out of the tag division since the Fammy Awards I knew it was going to amazing performance out of the Resurrgence if only it was a legit tag match between them it would’ve been even better but I hope there’s a rematch between the 2 teams sometime soon Mexi’s leg came back to bite him and they were just spent so of course Arik and AC would pick up the win but damn it was a hell of a fight. I usually do ratings but I’ve never really rated FaM shows before so I’ma just leave that be and if someone wants my rating yall can just DM me or something.

The Next Match was Darren Dastardly vs Frisco and personally this was a match I felt needed to be really really good considering the Rumble match felt extremely weird and rushed to the finish I really felt this needed to be a banger… aaaand it was good, better than the first match but it still felt a bit off to me because the match itself was mix between not just these 2 trying be full fledged member of FaM and also the overall rivalry between these 2 while I do think they did a decent job on trying to balance those two stories in the match I still felt more could’ve been done and I feel there could’ve been a better finish than what that was. In a ladder match it gives you the opportunity to use the ladder as uniquely as possible and I felt the finished could’ve been more creative and this match stood out like a sore thumb compared to the rest of the matches on the card except the 7 on 7 between Cushnie and G&P & The Straight Edge Triple Threat hopefully something will change in the future I put those guys matches on a certain standard because of the matches I’ve seen from in past outside of FaM and knowing that FaM is whole other beast when it comes to matches I thought the matches in FaM would be even better but so far it’s felt either rushed or just not doing enough to make feel that excitement I get when I watch FaM. But again this is just my thoughts most probably liked it for what it was but from knowing these guys I know they’re capable of doing better. But good job nonetheless on the match.

Moving on to The Straight Edge Triple Threat match it was decent match. It had a typical psychology of a triple threat and had some really great moments especially with Sanders, Andy winning was too easy of a guess but it made sense at the same time so not much to be said on that.

We move on to the next match that I believe kinda revived the show for me a bit after the last 2 matches and that was Pandurhino vs Roberto match was just perfect to me honestly sparked back my excitement for the show is just what we needed and the match was just insanely entertaining by the way shout to who edited that fucking dive of the stage that was fucking insane. I like how after all that carnage from that match Darren found a loop hole and practically stole the Hardcore belt like a real heel. So that was a nice touch.

The Next Match on the board to follow up that awesome match is 1 of my FaM favorites Anarchymus vs Element. This match looked to be very interesting from the jump. Element being well.. Let’s be honest Diesel if he had quads and Anarchymus Russian Strong Style Cesaro I expected this match to be strong hitting and a little bit of big man little man psychology and it was exactly that with some early on targeting of the leg of Element and alot of hard hitting moves from Element in response this was really a Superman vs Superman match up that I enjoyed alot definitely a rewatchable match and I’d even say Title Match OTY for FaM in my opinion My personal favorite match of the show so shouts to them.

Alright soo the next match was… something else to say the least Darin vs Sean Nova… for a number of reasons I say this. First of the little intro for NoVa’s entrance was actually pretty cool. Now the match itself… I can’t lie I was caught off guard I was actually expecting a more drawn out match but nah I got Goldberg vs Brock at Survivor Series with the overall match being (and I timed it) 1:02.99 like holy damn I wasn’t even mad just like Goldberg and Brock I was laughing my ass off so yeah that was a cool moment glad to see NoVa confirmedly back in FaM now holding technically the equivalence to the IC title he held in the Cyber FaM Championship

Next Match on the board is GuNNz vs Rafazo now this story sparked my entrance from moment GuNNz returned and made Rafazo look like a “PUSSY” (If you read that in his voice Cool points for you) anyways I liked the rookie vs vet concept between these 2 and that finish was perfect honestly because in the sense Rafazo didn’t beat GuNNz but GuNNz beat himself.

Now this next match’s result was highly predicatable due alot of what was going on not only in FaM but outside of it from what I’ve heard and honestly as far just FaM concerned it didn’t surprise me since I’ve said from the jump Gin was going to be a big over character due to the fact of the character is unique and stands out it's obvious fans of FaM would be highly invested in Gin. Vikel has been champ since the title arrived so it was obvious in my opinion that she was going to lose it regardless of that little thing that happened with Vikel on twitter or whatever that situation was. Eve… honestly I don’t know why Eve couldn’t get the belt besides again Gin is arguably more over but even then in my opinion I wish Elle would’ve got in to this match because I felt it would’ve been a good culmination for Elle to become champ after all she’s went through but apparently there was a “bigger picture” that we would learn a little later. Now to talk about the actual match I actually enjoyed it the flowed well and there wasn’t really any dud moments to make it look bad also quick nit pick if you go to 2:51:19 on the show IN MY OPINON I think that crossbody edit could’ve been done a bit more clean I’m just saying that’s probably my one and only nit pick as far as editing for the show that I saw that bugged me. But anyways the match was great the finish was alright like how Vikel was protected and didn’t get pinned. Again only wished the result wasn’t predictable but it is what is. I have nothing against Gin always been a friend of mine so congrats on becoming Diamonds Champ.

Next Match is definitely in my opinion The Match Of The Night Black Heron vs 2 Twisted Merk now I had a good idea of how this match would go at least the ending because I had a feeling Eve would play a factor but they teased what I was thinking so well played there. Every moment felt like it had purpose

And it was definitely crazy shit implemented into this long drawn out story between these 2 and show how much they would torment each other putting the match stipulation “I Quit” on a whole other level. It was the perfect match to me from start to finish. Absolutely loved it if you could imagine my face / reaction to when BH kicked his eardrum in you would’ve been dying of laughing because I was hyped as hell shouts to my B-day twin Alex and shouts to 2TM and whoever else involved with making that match awesome.

The Next match I���m not gonna lie I didn’t really care too much for this was filler for me to settle and process the BH vs 2TM match the 7 on 7 between Team Cushnie vs G & P just didn’t get my attention. I watched it but it was just more of a “*shrugs* It’s there” type of match for me although I did get a kick out of that finish with Wrestle Talk honestly if you ask me G & P should just be apart of the tag team division I’d be a lot more entertained if they were doing their shenanigans for something that matters instead of little feud with Cushnie.

Now… The Co-Main Event for the FaM Championship The Rematch… Bury The Hatchet Part 2 Nic Virtue vs Cameron Bash. Now before I get into this I just want to say this. I’ve never considered Bash as babyface. Ever. Its nothing against Bash himself its just how I feel about the Bash character. It just seems more bluntly obvious he’s playing a character that you want to cheer but not exactly transferring that way that is considering how much you know about the CAW history and whether you’re a casual or hardcore fan / observer of the overall community. Nic on the other hand outside of twitter disputes has always looked like a babyface in his matches and the few shows he was on. The thing that made BTH so interesting was the fact that the story was so heated and from my point of view Bash was the heel in this and Virtue was the babyface. The thing with this match was that there wasn’t much story draw to the match besides just giving people a rematch that people wanted to see and that they respected each other but I feel they missed an opportunity to have a turn specifically for Bash because going back to my last few statements I’ve never looked at Bash as babyface and at this point Bash feels like a forced babyface so for him to have turned during those time periods of building up to FaMniversary but again this is just how I feel about it.

The match itself was for sure amazing without a doubt definitely was match to remember with the psychology the story the were telling but honestly I wished Virtue won only because after everything I think it was obvious Nic was brought in for this but my question would be why not give him the belt. Outside of him not wanting it or just wanted to get that match out of the way to “retire” or continue just on a new chapter for him. Who knows there’s a lot of unanswered questions with that finish which might’ve been the point for all I know for it to get answered some time later. But regardless it was a hell of a match Great work.

Now The Main Fucking Event… Rom vs Ranik. First off… Holy. Mother. Of Shit… that fucking match was brutal as fuck There was a lot of story going into this match and after seeing Ranik vs BH and then following it up with Rom winning the rumble and knowing everything that was in stake for this I really didn’t want to see Rom lose but it was really up in smoke to where this would really go and I’m glad Rom won and the match itself was just fucking insane in every way of the term being used with this match. The crazy no selling, the actual selling, the crazy reversals and edits I think me and the guys always described Ranik like a Big Boss you’d face in the Final Battle and every match he’s been in has felt that way. So when Ranik finally went down it meant alot towards the overall power grip story for Rom for the last 3 years. So with that being said Awesome Main Event. Even afterwards the moments where Rom collapse and couldn’t get back up was just perfect after a match like that.

Now to talk about what transpired after all of that… this AWOL thing I’m not against it at all as long as its now another power struggle story mainly because it’s been an ongoing story for 3 years so I would hope we’d go on a different direction basically looking to be a big tweener group and I only say tweener because they had babyfaces and heels attacking heels and babyfaces so its now 100% clear on which side their on if anything it seems like they’re on their own side hence why I say tweener. They attacked BH, GuNNz,Andy and Eve whom are safe to say are face now attacked Vikel, Rafazo, Ranik Sanders and Killswitch who have been the heels sooo it’s clear the agenda and it seem to be in affect just have to wait and see at this point where that goes Cameron being the head honcho of it doesn’t surprise as again I’ve never seen him as a babyface and if this is the closest I can get to him being heel then for now so it shall be.
