I love how a well-written romance is so often structured as a mystery. A person starts with a certain idea about another person, and over the course of the story, they uncover more evidence that gives them a fuller picture of who the other person truly is. They learn about layers to the personality and backstory that give the other person more depth. They learn how the other person's personality meshes with theirs. Even the third-act misunderstanding fits the mystery structure--it looks like they've uncovered the final secret to the other person's identity, which is that they're not the worthy person they seemed to be, but then discover that they misinterpreted that evidence, or the other person takes steps to apologize and repair the level of trust. When the mystery is resolved, they've reached a full understanding of each other and know they've found a partner they can trust their whole future to.

#also comedy works along a mystery structure #so a romantic comedy is like a double mystery #two different types of mystery clashing with each other and causing hilarity before the truth is finally revealed #if nothing else this batb diversion will spark some interesting romance thoughts #this came to me because i've been slowly rereading beth brower's 'the q'#and i just hit the scene where quincey gets to observe arch outside of work for the first time #just a lovely moment of revelation #and i think that's the one thing that story does really well #and the author in general is very good at applying this mystery dynamic to all her character dynamics whether romantic or platonic #i rarely find myself able to believe in the strength of her characters' bonds that are supposed to exist before the story started #but the developing relationships are so good because of this endless uncovering of mysteries deepening the bonds in a very compelling way #adventures in writing

Something I've noticed about being in a small, 'dead' fandom... when you're a content creator, it's like the whole remaining fandom *reacts* when you do anything. I'm in a small but dedicated group of authors for a small fandom. If one of us posts after a dry spell, the rest of us perk up. The fans react. Other creators (like myself) are inspired to make their own stuff.

For a small while, we aren't just small-time creators. It's like we're the franchise itself! Everyone knows when we post stuff. Our content is THE content.

Wow. What a feeling.

One year ago I made this lil comic about being aromantic, based on the lyrics of Eaten By The Monster Of Love! I meant to post it on the anniversary of me making it but I missed the day, oops... so today felt like a fitting alternative :3

#i am very attached to this drawing because it was the first digital thing i drew in a long time #(and whatever i made before this was just aimless doodles at best anyway) so when i finished this and was actually happy with it #it was such a momentous occasion. like looking at it and thinking wow i actually like this a lot #so without it i don't think i really would have picked up digital drawing. definitely made me feel much more secure in my artsing abilities #and i made it with the intent of submitting it to this one publication / zine that i just miraculously learned about #so that's why it's important that i liked it enough to want to show it to anyone #the theme was to do something that combines the themes of queerness and horror / monsters etc #and another limitation was to use only these two exact colors that you see here. also i drew all of this with mouse only #because i didn't have my drawing tablet on that day (not that i even used it much before this) and was running out of time to submit it lol #so yeah thinking about monsters and how i could mix that with being aspec is how the idea was born #i still remember the thrill of coming up with this and thinking YES i could make this... theoretically... screw it i will really try.!!!#so yep my submission was accepted. even without that i still liked it but when i learned about this it was such a WHAT!!!!??? moment #someone out there saw my drawing and liked it enough to have it printed next to the works of all these other artists...#and now more people are going to see it too. and that is so wonderful. huge moment all in all one of the best defining moments of last year #my art #sparks #sparks band #ray the cat #(her look has changed a bit since heh)

My brain now wants a story where Optimus and Megatron, during the war, basically get abducted by other aliens (let’s say the Quintessons or something), and basically the rest of the story is them trying to escape, survive, and make their way back to Cybertron, encountering a severe number of inconveniences along the way. They’re also forming a temporary alliance because they realize pretty quickly that they’re both out of their depth here individually and have to team up to survive

But like it gets to the point where by the time they finally get back to Cybertron, they’re basically just like “oh right, the war. Yeah how about we just call it off” because they’ve gone through so much shit together they just don’t really have it in them to fight each other anymore

Honestly it’d probably have to be relegated to fanfic format due to the only Transformers in this story, outside of maybe a few brief appearances, being Optimus and Megatron. Not unless you give everyone else back on Cybertron something else to do, or have this story between them be the side plot

#it started off as Transformers One them bc I’m fairly certain they’ll team up to fight the Quintessons #though granted it doesn’t have to be #also in my brain they probably go through some design changes #Optimus might have had Megatron’s arm stitched on to him and vice versa #also I’m imagining Megatron sacrificing himself to save Optimus and potentially the rest of Cybertron #but Optimus being like “not on my watch” and managing to at least get his spark chamber out of there #so he’s still alive but he’s literally only his spark now #so later on they need to find some workaround and Megatron probably gets a whole new body by the end of it #they finally get back to Cybertron and they are completely different #both in character and definitely body #I don’t know #Unicron probably also ends up as a threat they deal with along the way #they experience all the horrors #transformers #megatron #optimus prime #story ideas #fanfiction

Almost done replying to comments on AO3 and then I'll start working through all the asks and messages here!

In other news, I responded like a dog with a whistle when someone said, 'Where are you, pasta?' at the store. Presumably they were looking for lowercase pasta, and not uppercase Pasta, but I still got a weird look before I mumbled and wandered off.

I'm also currently watching one of my old fandoms (the one that got me back into writing fanfic which eventually led to TRT, ironically) eat itself alive after a trailer dropped for the new game and the response was... divisive. So Imma just bunker down here in the Daredevil fandom and on my peaceful feed and hide from that for a while. But that led to this hilarious exchange with a friend:

'So are you going to dust off your old AO3 account and write for *old game fandom* again?' 'are you kidding? I have Daredevil moss on me. I'm a part of the Marvel fic ecosystem now. At best I'll pop a root over to wiggle around in the Pedro Pascal section of forest, but that's it.'

#daredevil is a part of me #not even god can stop that now #also idk. the thought of writing for my old fandom just does not spark joy anymore #esp since the voice actor of one of my fave characters there turned out to be an absolute shitstain of a human so i got the ick for him #like i appreciate the occasional kudos that pops up on the old fics but i have no desire to go back even if the new game turns out amazing #and also i have no desire to wade back into all the current fighting #i realize dd is not exactly a peaceful fandom either but i've worked hard to curate my feed so it's pretty happy and non-toxic #and the thought of having to dust off my old tumblr and do that *again* for this old fandom is just... nah #if the game is good i'll happily play and enjoy and read fic but i just feel like my time *writing* for it has come and gone
