Saw, the forgotten victor of the 32nd Hunger Games, had rejected every reward the Empire offered him, preferring to live as a recluse at the edge of the forest in District 12, as opposed to the luxury in the Victors' Village. It's been decades since anyone in the district even recalled that Saw was once a victor himself, but he had made sure to teach Jyn all he knew of self-defense and combat training. It's the only thing she has of him left since his passing two years ago. Now, Jyn just wants to get through her last reaping and survive. I love how a well-written romance is so often structured as a mystery. A person starts with a certain idea about another person, and over the course of the story, they uncover more evidence that gives them a fuller picture of who the other person truly is. They learn about layers to the personality and backstory that give the other person more depth. They learn how the other person's personality meshes with theirs. Even the third-act misunderstanding fits the mystery structure--it looks like they've uncovered the final secret to the other person's identity, which is that they're not the worthy person they seemed to be, but then discover that they misinterpreted that evidence, or the other person takes steps to apologize and repair the level of trust. When the mystery is resolved, they've reached a full understanding of each other and know they've found a partner they can trust their whole future to.

Something I've noticed about being in a small, 'dead' fandom... when you're a content creator, it's like the whole remaining fandom *reacts* when you do anything. I'm in a small but dedicated group of authors for a small fandom. If one of us posts after a dry spell, the rest of us perk up. The fans react. Other creators (like myself) are inspired to make their own stuff.

For a small while, we aren't just small-time creators. It's like we're the franchise itself! Everyone knows when we post stuff. Our content is THE content.

I might call crassus my girl in the group chat, but I’ve actually spent more years wishing that spartacus got to run crassus through on his sword and then read the fate of rome out of his entrails. ALAS. on that note, isn’t it kind of interesting how spartacus’ funeral games for crixus turn roman order upside down and feel like both a foundational sacrifice and a curse? isn’t it kind of fun how crassus will not die in rome, and neither will pompey, who came in like a vulture to take credit for crassus’ work? (it’s VERY fun)

My brain now wants a story where Optimus and Megatron, during the war, basically get abducted by other aliens (let’s say the Quintessons or something), and basically the rest of the story is them trying to escape, survive, and make their way back to Cybertron, encountering a severe number of inconveniences along the way. They’re also forming a temporary alliance because they realize pretty quickly that they’re both out of their depth here individually and have to team up to survive

But like it gets to the point where by the time they finally get back to Cybertron, they’re basically just like “oh right, the war. Yeah how about we just call it off” because they’ve gone through so much shit together they just don’t really have it in them to fight each other anymore

Honestly it’d probably have to be relegated to fanfic format due to the only Transformers in this story, outside of maybe a few brief appearances, being Optimus and Megatron. Not unless you give everyone else back on Cybertron something else to do, or have this story between them be the side plot

Also can I just say, the fact that core refresh and monster fest hit shelves around the same time is a TRAVESTY of logistical planning on Mattel's part. I know CR clawdeen and drac trickled out a bit earlier than the rest, but even still that's TEN high production value dolls all hitting the shelves within a few months of each other. So few people can afford to buy all of those! And even if they can afford it, consumption has diminishing returns. It's practically begging people to get burned out and stop caring. Which is tragic, because I think these lines are fucking awesome!

It's not just monster high honestly, it's symptomatic of the entire Overconsumption Culture we have going on right now. And it makes me sad.

In other news, I responded like a dog with a whistle when someone said, 'Where are you, pasta?' at the store. Presumably they were looking for lowercase pasta, and not uppercase Pasta, but I still got a weird look before I mumbled and wandered off.

I'm also currently watching one of my old fandoms (the one that got me back into writing fanfic which eventually led to TRT, ironically) eat itself alive after a trailer dropped for the new game and the response was... divisive. So Imma just bunker down here in the Daredevil fandom and on my peaceful feed and hide from that for a while. But that led to this hilarious exchange with a friend:

'So are you going to dust off your old AO3 account and write for *old game fandom* again?' 'are you kidding? I have Daredevil moss on me. I'm a part of the Marvel fic ecosystem now. At best I'll pop a root over to wiggle around in the Pedro Pascal section of forest, but that's it.'
