“I’ll kiss Tina,” Zeke said as he looked directly into Tina’s eyes to see if she had any objection. “If that’s alright with ‘er, of course.”
Tina shrugged. “Sure. We’ve kissed each other before. Remember when we played Spin The Bottle at Jocelyn’s party when her parents’ weren’t home, or when I thought we were all going to get killed by aliens ‘cause of Henry Haber’s dumb prank and I kissed you by your locker? To be honest, you’re a better kisser than Jimmy Junior is. Don’t tell him I said that.”
Zeke laughed and crawled closer to where Tina was sitting on her bedroom floor. Gene didn’t look happy that Zeke had chosen to kiss Tina over him, and Louise was painfully bored and she waited for this awkward interaction to be over so they could continue their investigation into Zeke’s strange behavior. “Did you know that was my first actual kiss? When you kissed me in the hallway that day. I’d kissed people before during party games, an’ when I was younger during recess on the playground, but you were the first person that ever kissed me just ‘cause you wanted to. I never told anybody about what happened ‘cause I didn’t know if you wanted to keep it a secret, and I didn’t want J-Ju to think I was tryin’ to steal his girl or nothing.”
“Oh,” Tina blinked. “I didn’t know that, Zeke. If I knew that it was your first kiss, I probably would have asked before I kissed you, and I would’ve done a better job of trying to be romantic. I was kind of working within a time limit ‘cause I thought that aliens were going to come and destroy the Earth.”
“Nah. Don't worry about that, Tina. It was perfect.”
Six Sentence Sunday
Jimmy Jr. watched as his boyfriend made him a plate as well as a cup of coffee. “You’re being awfully sweet this morning.”
“I can be.” Will set the mug and plate in front of him and then sat inside him, his focus shifting to the bruise on the redhead’s cheek. “It darkened overnight. How does it feel?”
“Kinda sore, but I’ll live.”

Personal Assistant Pt. 7 (Finale)
Part 1: here Part 2: here Part 3: here Part 4: here Part 5: here Part 6: here Crossposted to Ao3: here
Wow, I’m surprised y’all are here. Really, I’m humbled and honored for all the followers and all the support you’ve given me in this whirlwind of a writing marathon. Please enjoy the last course of this smut fest and lemme know how y’all are feelin’ Taglist at the end.
Pairing: Lucifer x Reader Wordcount: 8,500 ish Genre: Delicious smut Tags: Multiple Orgasms, cunnilingus, aphrodisiacs, demon sex Summary: You get to experience some intimate times with Lucifer as a year with him winds to a close.
Bonus
After your business trip, you were mandated to work from home for at least a week. Lucifer knew the extent of what you went through and bed rest was absolutely necessary to ensure you would be able to come back to work in top form. Even after a weekend of basically being bedridden right after the session, the soreness between your legs persisted as a constant reminder of just how thoroughly you had been used. So, when you received the text from him late Sunday night to work from home, you couldn’t be any more relieved. Your legs had gotten some strength back into them; but you still couldn’t freely move around without experiencing discomfort and limping.
With the holidays looming so closely, Lucifer was rather ashamed that he couldn’t give you proper vacation time off to recover. At the very least, he knew you were safe from prying eyes while you stayed at home and remoted in on your computer. It was strange though, not seeing you sitting at your desk, your back turned to him while you were entering data. He oddly missed turning around and seeing you filing away the monthly reports or retrieving files for a meeting. The office felt empty for the first time in a long time.
Caring for humans was something foreign and unfamiliar to him. But, with you, it felt like the proper thing to do.
He reasoned that he was simply doing his due diligence to visit your abode with physical paperwork that needed to be reviewed. It also seemed to be a natural thing for him to buy you some food; surely you were tired of cooking for yourself and your food supplies were dwindling from being unable to get to the grocery store. It didn’t cross his mind that food delivery was an option until he was mere meters away from your front door, one hand holding a heavy bag full of takeout and a thick pile of reports in his arm. Regardless of his oversight, it was too late to turn back now.
You had expected Lucifer to come over, drop off some papers to go over and leave you to your own devices. You had already shown to him that you could still complete the most of your usual workload in a timely manner, even if you weren't at the office with him. So, when he invited himself into your abode, stepping past you as soon as you opened the door to set down the food and papers he brought, you were taken aback to say the least. After all, Lucifer was a busy man and he had much better things to do than to get comfortable in the recliner that sat in your living room once his shoes and coat were off of him.
“It’s gotten a bit nippy out this week. Are you sure you’re running the heat here? It’s absolutely frigid.” He commented, loosening his tie and settling into the seat he had claimed as his own. You stared dumbly at your boss who had just so casually stepped into your home as if he lived there with you and was meant to unwind right in your living room. It had to be a dream, you had to be hallucinating. Yet, no matter how many times you blinked or rubbed your eyes, Lucifer was right there, in your living room, his tie and the first few buttons of his dress shirt undone.
He looked over at your stunned face, smiling a bit. “What? Am I not allowed to make a visit to my assistant who’s been ‘out sick’ all week?” He wasn’t sure what lines he had crossed, but it felt as if his presence made you uncomfortable. Perhaps he should have given you a little more of an advanced notice before coming over. The silence between the two of you grew palpable. When at the office, he was the epitome of control and composed. Humans were easy to predict in a controlled environment where there was a clear hierarchy. In such a casual setting though, he found himself rather out of place and lost. He had only vaguely ever gotten the idea of how to behave; with how you were reacting though, he was unsure how to proceed.
“Did you eat?” He asked, changing the subject and gesturing over to the food he brought on the counter. If he had been too forward with getting comfortable in your space, he could at least assuage the tension by changing the subject and moving the focus over to food and not to him. It would be the perfect time to reassess his plan of action while you were distracted by eating. “You should have something before it gets cold.”
“I was just about to order some delivery.” You admitted, letting out a nervous laugh. Having Lucifer in such an intimate setting was strange. You could tell he didn’t feel quite as at home as he was fronting and wondered just how you could get him out so he could go back to being his usual self without you around him.
“I hope you don’t mind Greek.” Lucifer visibly relaxed, walking over to the bag of food and started to take out the boxes. “A new place just opened up and the marketing head suggested I try it out.” He opened the containers, revealing some of the typical dishes you expected to see, naming each one and describing them. Some dishes you were familiar with; others you had never seen before and with each description he gave, your mouth watered a little more and your stomach grumbled in hunger.
At the loud gurgle your stomach gave once he opened the last box, Lucifer chuckled, pulling a chair out for you at the small table, now crowded with more takeout than two people could ever eat. “Eat. I know you’re hungry.”
You nodded, at least having the decorum to grab some dishes and silverware before digging into the feast in front of you. The explosion of flavors and textures was a welcome change from the pizza and Chinese takeout you had been living off of for the past week. It was hard to keep your manners in mind when the table was so crammed full of boxes and you were forced to eat with the plate in your lap, hunched over the food like the gremlin that you felt like you were.
Out of the corner of your eye, you could see Lucifer pick at his own food, ever composed and nonplussed that he wasn’t actually eating in the most ideal circumstances. The quiet that fell between you this time felt much better, the food serving as the perfect buffer between you and him and you could at least feel a little more yourself with proper sustenance in you.
“The year end reports are starting to roll in.” he said once you had adequate time to try everything. Now, you were just going in for seconds of what you liked best, picking at your favorites until your hunger was properly sated. “And marketing has been sending in the proposals of the ads we’ll be running this season. I’d like to go over those with you once you’re done with dinner.”
With the conversation focused on work, it was much easier to forget how awkward it had all been in the beginning when he walked through your door. You nodded, already grabbing the first folder on the stack to start skimming through reports. Ad proposals were much more fun to go over than pages upon pages of analysis. The sooner you could finish the boring stuff, you could look at the more interesting things.
“My work computer is in the room. I can move it out here once we’re done.” you said, flipping a page and sighing when there were even more numbers you needed to double check.
“No need, we’ll just move there.” He said, not realizing the connotations his words had. “You’re on sick leave and you must rest when you can. We’ll just carry on as you have for the past week.”
You felt your body heat up at his words, trying to see if he had any intentions outside of making sure you were as well rested as possible before you returned to work in a few days. You could never read him, unable to tell what his motives were, and all you could do was follow his instructions. Once all the food had been cleaned up and leftovers were stowed in the fridge, you showed him down the short hallway to your room where you had your home office set up in bed.
As you shuffled to your computer, he could tell there was still a bit of a limp in your gait and there was a mixture of pride and shame. On the one hand, he was glad that your body still remembered the amazing experience you shared with him, Diavolo and Barbatos. On the other, he was ashamed that you were pushed to that limit at all. And then, he remembered the reason he broke you at all in the first place.
So he could put you back together just how he wanted.
He let you climb into bed and settle the lap desk in place before handing you the first of the reports you needed to go over. Lucifer himself took a seat in the chair he had dragged over from your vanity to sit next to your bed and look over the projections for the next few months. Normally, he would have kept strict office hours; but with holidays, even he had to put in a few longer nights to keep up with how hectic things got.
The two of you worked in silence. Even if the location was different, the professional atmosphere was the same as it always had been at the office. The only differences were that you sat in a much more comfortable position and you were much closer to Lucifer than you normal. From where you sat, you got a much closer look at your boss while he worked. His brows furrowed slightly in concentration as he parsed out the plans for the upcoming month. His mouth was set in a straight, tight line whenever he crossed anything out and wrote corrections in the margins. He was beautifully efficient in his work, blitzing through several files in the time it took you to go through one.
You heard stray cats mewling from the cold outside at some point, breaking your concentration and you looked at the clock on your dresser. It was much later than you thought it would be, and you still had ad proposals to look through. Sighing and setting the reports to the side to look over during the weekend, you picked up the folders filled with ad storyboards. “Are you going home soon?” You asked, looking up at Lucifer who just finished the last of his work.
“Oh, I was waiting for you to finish so we can go over the ad proposals together. I’d like to hear your opinions on them in real time.” He said. Lucifer shifted from his place in the chair next to your bed to sitting beside you on your bed. You blushed, moving aside so he had ample room and got comfortable.
In this new position, you could feel the warmth of his body right next to yours. It was a distraction on its own, right alongside the familiar smell of his cologne. He handed you the first of the proposals, giving you a few minutes to look through it before asking for your thoughts on it.
What focus you had earlier was completely lost from being so close to Lucifer. It felt like an eternity since the last time you were in the office and having him right beside you, talking business had your mind and body in conflicting positions. While you struggled to pay attention to his words and stared at the papers in front of you, Lucifer smirked, knowing just what kind of effect he was having on you.
“So, do you think we should run it?” He asked nonchalantly leaning closer so that he could have a clear view of the storyboard.
You swallowed, trying to ignore how his voice sounded and how you could feel his breath ghosting across your neck. It was time for work, not time for your body to crave his touch, his kisses, his… everything. Stop. You blinked, turning the pages back and forth before voicing your thoughts. “I think the message of this ad is alright, but the target audience is off. If I saw this, I wouldn’t know what it’s trying to sell until it’s too late and I’m bored with it.”
He nodded, agreeing mostly with your opinion and closed the file after writing down your comments. “Alright, what about this one.” He said, pulling up the next one and letting you go through it.
Your eyes scanned the script and you immediately grimaced at how cheesy the writing was. You instinctively wanted to reject it and move onto the next one. However, your morbid sense of curiosity had you reading further and analyzing everything else in the file. In the end, your gut feeling was correct and you wholeheartedly turned it down from being produced. “Unless you want to lose half of your clients, I’d say bin that one.”
He chuckled, not bothering to write any notes on it, knowing that it wouldn’t go any further. “And what about this one?” he asked, putting another file on top of your lap desk.
You flipped through, engrossed in the storytelling and the script, rather shocked at the proposed budget to shoot an ad like this. You nodded, thinking through the allocated funds for the rest of the year and calculated if it would be feasible to go forward with the project. You crunched a few numbers, actually invested in the proposal and didn’t notice just how close Lucifer had gotten until his hand snuck its way under the sheets covering your legs and stopped at your thigh.
“What do you think?” He asked softly, his voice barely above a whisper, his thumb rubbing gentle circles on your thigh and your brain ceased to function for a moment. It felt like an eternity had passed since the last time he did anything like this to you. You looked over to him and smiled, trying to go back to the subject at hand, though your brain refused to process what he was asking you.
“It’s nice…” You finally managed to say.
“Is that all?” He asked, moving his hand further up and brushing his fingers against the apex of your thighs. “You seemed to be so interested in it, but it’s just ‘fine’?”
You cleared your throat, hoping it would reset your thoughts; but your brain was stuck in a constant feedback loop that refused to get over what Lucifer was doing to you. “It… it’s got good parts.”
Lucifer smirked, nodding at your answer and continuing his questions as if his hands weren’t teasing you. “Tell me more.” He encouraged, slipping his hand past the waistband of your shorts to rub your labia. “I’m interested in your thoughts.”
“I uh.. W-well.” You stuttered, swallowing hard and looking at him pleadingly. You were still sore but the way he was so soft with his touches did things to your libido and your heart. “Well, it fits the mood for the season…” You started, touching on the most basic things to get your mind in the right state.
“Yes, I did tell you these were proposals for the holiday season. It’s obvious it would fit the mood.” His lips brushed against the shell of your ear and his teeth nipped at your earlobe. “Come on now, your analysis for all the others was so thorough, what happened?” he drawled, smiling wickedly, knowing exactly what was making your brain stutter. His fingers parted your lips in turn making you unconsciously spread your legs for him to get easier access.
You bit your lip, using the pain to ground your focus to the task at hand. “Well, the year has been rather rough financially for a lot of people.” You said through gritted teeth. “Showing how they’re able to… ah--” Whatever you were about to say flew right out of your mind when his finger brushed against your clit. You gasped, your whole nether region was still so sore from the last time, but your body was quickly craving more; and the only way to get that was to work. “We’re able to show people that they can… they can afford to celebrate on a budget… Ah… Lucifer…” you whined, rolling your hips up and gasping at how stiff all your muscles were. The sudden jolt of pain keeping you from reacting the way you wanted to.
He hushed you, kissing your jaw and teased your nether lips further with his fingers, running them up and down your slit which was quickly becoming wet from his ministrations. You whimpered, hating how you were being forced to sit still due to your own body’s limits.
“Yes, I’m listening still.” He replied nonchalantly, trailing his kisses down your neck and nipping the skin there with his teeth. “I’m concerned about the budget they’ve set for this ad… your thoughts on that?”
You gulped, amazed that he was still asking questions about the damn ad as if his fingers weren’t coated with your essence at that very moment. You took deep breaths, trying to calm yourself but not doing a very good job at it. “We-well… initial calculations say that it’s not something that can be done right no--- ahh…” You gasped in pleasure when you felt firm pressure on your clit, his finger rubbed circles around it and made you see stars. “Right now… b-but if we reallocate funds from the IT department that submitted their final budget for the year and th...they have a surplus, we can manage….”
“Oh? That’s very good news then…” Lucifer smiled, loving the way you struggled to keep yourself composed while he unraveled you bit by bit with his fingers. Tentatively, he probed your entrance, wondering how well you had healed over the week. When you yelped in pain, instinctively closing your legs against that touch, he stopped immediately. “This was my favorite out of all the ones submitted, I’m glad that you approve of it as well.”
Lucifer went back to teasing your folds, making you forget about the pain and put your body back into the relaxed, aroused state it had been in before. Now that he knew your limits, he was free to skirt them right at the edge, teasing you until you squirmed with pleasure. “I’ll let Marketing know the good news over the weekend so they can start the project as soon as possible.”
“I’m sure they’ll be very happy about that.”
“Indeed they will be. Final thing, I just need you to sign off on these reports and I’ll be on my way home.” He said before dropping a sizable stack of papers in front of you. “I need them right away so I can submit them over the weekend and get underwriting to process them first thing next week.” He explained. His touches slowed to a halt and you felt the fog of pleasure lift a little. Now though, you ached for his continued caresses and you whined loudly when he pulled his hand out from under the sheets.
“Do as you’re told and you’ll be rewarded accordingly.” He stated firmly, all the while making the most lewd show of licking his fingers coated in your slick.
Never in your life had you started reading boring documents so quickly. You were skimming words, processing them, but just barely, all to get to what you were promised. Even if your body ached and screamed in protest, what Lucifer had teased you with was too tantalizing to pass up.
He smiled, planting a soft kiss at your temple before leaving your side. You startled, looking up at him with pleading eyes, wondering if he was leaving for the night. “I’ll be right back…” He reassured you with a self satisfied smirk.
You wondered what he meant by those words for a brief moment before his actions did all the explaining as he ducked his head under the sheets and nestled himself between your legs. You swallowed, parting your legs for him after he slid your shorts and panties off. You could feel his warm breath on your inner thighs, traveling higher and higher until the tip of his nose brushed against your pussy and you whined softly at the contact.
There was still an important task to be done and you had to see it through. All the while Lucifer happily lapped at your core. His hands firmly at your thighs to keep your legs parted for him. His tongue traced your slit slowly and you caught your breath with each pass he took. The words on the pages in front of you had no meaning, but you kept reading them anyway.
The lewd sounds of him licking and sucking your folds were muffled under the sheets, yet they were still loud enough to be the only sounds your ears picked up on. Your breathing came out in stuttered breaths as you turned the last page in a report and mindlessly signed your name. Closing the file and moving on to the next one, you felt Lucifer press the flat of his tongue all along your pussy, spreading your labia and just brushing past your abused hole. At that, you moaned loudly, your hips jerking at the contact and sending pain shooting across your sore muscles. However, when you felt the tip of his tongue circle your clit, the pain dissipated and all that was left was a delicious soreness which mingled with the pleasure.
It was so hard to focus on your work, his tongue worked you into a frenzy, leaving you shuddering and moaning his name. You came as soon as you finished signing off on the second report. There were three more to go in the stack and you wondered if you could cum once for every one that was left. It would be perfect motivation to keep working.
No matter how many times your body was being pushed to the point of overstimulation, you could never get used to it. The way every nerve in your body seemed to vibrate with every touch and made you twitch in pleasure always felt new; and you couldn’t get enough of that euphoria. You had never been made to work through that state, but it was a test of your willpower now, going through reports while Lucifer’s tongue worked you into orgasm over and over again.
You felt like it took hours to complete reading everything. However, when you glanced up at the clock, barely an hour had passed and you were a quivering mess in your own bed, your boss between your legs, lazily licking your essence off your thighs as you came one last time, signing the last report off. “I… All the reports are done…”
You hated how cold you felt when he unburrowed himself from under your sheets. You could see your essence glistening on his lips and his chin, his eyes glowing that deep red color that made your heart skip a beat. “Very good job.” He praised, picking everything up and gathering it into his arms. He kissed the top of your head, making you feel dizzy from his praise and the number of times you came from just having his mouth attached to your pussy for an hour. “I’ll see you on Monday.” He said, preparing to leave.
A small part of you was heartbroken he didn’t want to stay. “Yeah… I’ll see you Monday…” You said weakly, smiling wistfully at his retreating form.
~~
A year to a human was no insignificant amount of time. As an immortal, this was the hardest concept for Lucifer to grasp. Yet, after having you around for a year, it felt natural for him to celebrate the time he had spent with you.
You expected work to be piled up when you got back to the office. However, with your absence and also the general hectic nature of the holidays approaching, you were swamped with work. Staying late to catch up and working yourself into an exhausted heap, there were nights where you simply fell asleep on one of the couches in the lounge area so you didn’t have to worry about losing time with your commute.
Even if Lucifer wanted you to slow down, the corporate world and human greed made it impossible. You weren’t the only one who worked to the bone. Even he had to pick up a fair amount of extra work to ensure the year ended smoothly. The last three months that year were a blur, you barely remembered who you talked to or what you did. All that mattered was making sure the company ran as smooth as possible.
So when the worst of it was all over and the department parties began, it felt as if the whole building got to sigh in relief now that the storm had passed. You were invited to a fair number of new year celebrations, both you and Lucifer’s schedules were filled with more parties than meetings. Seeing all the employees under his wing celebrate another successful year with him warmed your heart. It was a rare opportunity to see him interact with others and seeing him in such a joyous setting made your heart swell with pride.
With the last of the company parties out of the way, you were finally able to release the sigh of relief you had been holding for months. As soon as you returned to the office, it was as if a weight had been lifted and you were free to at least pretend the workload would lessen as the year rolled over. You were about to start packing your things up when you noticed a parcel on your desk. Curious, you opened it and it revealed a beautiful sparking black and red gown. You looked back at Lucifer who was leaning against his desk, watching you for your reaction. “You didn’t think I’d plan a celebration for the two of us now, did you?” He sauntered over to you, placing a hand on your shoulder. “We count as our own department, right?”
“Of course… How could I forget.” You laughed, running your hand across the delicate fabric, marveling at how it shifted in the light.
“Go on, get dressed, I’ll get the rest of the preparations ready.”
You couldn’t have run into the bathroom any faster. Your legs quivered a little in excitement and you nearly tripped out of your work clothes before shimmying into the black and red number you had been gifted. You were surprised at how well it fit you. Like a glove, it hugged your every curve in the right way to accentuate it. The fabric shimmered with every movement, making it look like you were walking through smoke. It felt odd to be in such a lavish dress and have nothing else to match it.
You ran your fingers through your hair, rearranging it in a way you thought framed your face a little better to accentuate the dress. You wanted to touch up your makeup, but had neglected to bring any with you in your rush to get changed. You would have to make do with what you had. Turning this way and that, you took one last look in the mirror and accepted the fact that it was as good as it was going to get with what you had.
Stepping back out into the office space, you gasped at how quickly Lucifer had managed to transform it. There was a clear hint of magic in the air, there was no other way to explain the softly glowing orbs that illuminated the room in a warm light. They floated through the air, suspended by nothing and fueled by whatever magic Lucifer had put into them. A table for two had been set up in the time it took you to get dressed and what looked like a delightful meal awaited you. Even Lucifer had changed his usual black and grey work suit to something with a little more red in it to match you.
Once again, he was waiting for you while leaning on his desk. As soon as he saw you, he picked up a pair of champagne flutes which sat next to him on his desk. He walked over and offered you the drink, a soft smile on his face. “Courtesy of Barbatos.” He explained, gesturing at the plates of food on the table. “He felt bad about his first impressions with you and wanted to make up for it. So, lucky me, I get catering from the best chef I know for this party.”
You giggled slightly, taking a sip of the champagne. “I hope that doesn’t mean that you expect me to cook for you in the future as your assistant. I’ll have you know the extent of my cookery knowledge will be phoning Barbatos up and asking him to deliver something for you.” You joked.
Lucifer let out a genuine laugh, leading you over to the table and helping you get seated. “Oh no, I don’t expect that from you at all. But, I’ll take note of that in case I change my mind later.”
Truth be told, though the food presented was some of the best you had ever eaten, being in close company with Lucifer was even better. For once, conversation didn’t revolve around work, instead, he regaled you with tales of where he came from and all the troubles he had to get Diavolo out of. The chatter and the good food filled your heart and your soul; you didn’t think you would ever get to see this side of Lucifer, but you were eternally grateful for the chance to witness it.
“Ah, the last thing. You can’t end a good meal without dessert.” Lucifer got up and reached for a box on his desk. Coming back, he presented you with an array of chocolate coated strawberries. “Please, help yourself.” he encouraged, turning the box to you. “I have a bit of an allergy to them, so they’re all yours.”
You tentatively took one, feeling rather guilty that Lucifer wouldn’t be able to join you; however, with a little bit of coaxing, your worries were laid to rest and you happily bit into the fruit. Lucifer watched your expression of joy as you indulged in one of your favorite treats. The way you made such happy sounds when enjoying something had him entirely amused. All the while, a small, knowing smile played at his lips. “They’re not going anywhere. You can take your time.” He said when he noticed just how quickly you were devouring them.
In an attempt to pace you, he pulled the box away from your grasp, plucking one of the strawberries from it and offered it to you. He looked at you expectantly, an eyebrow cocked up as he enticed you to lean in and take a bite.
You blushed, flustered that he would be feeding you dessert in this way. There was a distinct intimacy in how he delicately held the fruit out to you with one hand. His other hand cupped below it to catch anything that might fall. You obeyed after a moment of hesitation, leaning forward and taking it into your mouth. Somehow, just from having Lucifer present you dessert in such a way had dessert tasting so much sweeter to you.
You were halfway through the strawberries when you realized something felt off.The room felt warmer, the floating lights pulsed in a way that cast a halo around Lucifer, somehow making him look angelic to you. You thought it was because you were too tired after a whole week of festivities. It must have been past your normal bedtime and your body wanted to rest. At least, that’s what you thought was the case. But when he spoke again and his voice seemed to penetrate your whole body, sending shivers down your spine and pooling right to your core; you knew it had to be something else.
“Shall we dance?” he asked, getting up after he had finished feeding you what was left of the box of sweets. He held his hand out expectantly; with a little bit of magic, soft music filtered through the room and set the mood. While you struggled to comprehend what was happening to your body, you mindlessly followed his directions. All your nerves tingled, from the tips of your fingers to your scalp, everything seemed to vibrate with a heat and a need that built itself out of seemingly nowhere
The moment he placed his hand in your own and wrapped his arm around your waist, things started to click and your whole body heated up further at the realization. Your eyes blow wide open and your lips parted in a perpetual pant as he nonchalantly lead you in a slow dance, circling the empty area of the office to the beat of the soft music. You followed him in a haze, barely noticing your body move, a practical rag doll in his arms as he spun you around and watched your pupils get ever wider and the flush on your cheeks get ever deeper.
You were so hot and bothered in such a short period of time, it was absolutely overwhelming. Your hands shook in his, your mind barely able to comprehend the music as it was singularly focused on his warmth, his smell, his voice, his everything that was so close to you. You couldn’t look up at him, ashamed that with every dance step you shared, your essence flowing so freely from you was being smeared along your thighs and the back of your legs.
He knew what he had done, you could tell with the way the corner of his lip turned up. He was trying so hard to hide that self-satisfied smirk he always had on whenever you were right where he wanted you. You were so wet and ready for something other than the innocent game he was playing; but you knew better than to rush him. So you held onto your slipping control, pretending everything was alright when your body screamed to be used and not teased. That control disintegrated as you could smell your arousal while you dance; you knew there was no way he missed that smell either.
“Is something the matter?” he asked, his voice full of faux concern after the second time you circled the room. “You seem so out of it.”
“It’s just… It’s hot, Lucifer.” You said, clinging onto his lapels and leaning into him. With his arm no longer around your waist, you couldn’t seem to keep yourself upright. You could hear his heart beating as you pressed your face against his chest, steadying yourself. “It’s… I don’t know what happened, I’m just, so hot…” It was a lie, you knew exactly what happened, what those strawberries were laced with, but you couldn’t say it out loud, not when you were so affected by his sneaky little plan.
“Oh dear… Are you coming down with something?” He asked, gently guiding you to sit down where you stood. “Are you feeling ill? Are you hurt?”
Yes, you were hurt, your whole body ached in need and he was playing around like he didn’t have any idea what he had done to you. You whine, pulling the skirt of your dress up, a wave of cool air offering you a bit of relief on your heated body. “I hurt… right here.” You said, spreading your legs apart and giving him a clear view of the wet mess you had become in such a short time. “It’s hot… and I hurt…”
Your lips and throat felt dry, your whole body flushed and heated to a point where you wanted to tear off the fancy dress and just dunk yourself into a vat of ice water. You needed relief that only he could give you. Lucifer’s face of concern changed drastically the moment you revealed yourself to him and that sadistic smile you knew so well spread across his face.
“Oh now, that is a problem…” He murmured, pressing a finger against your soiled panties and rubbing his finger up and down to mold the fabric to your slit. “But… I would hate for you to leave the party so soon.” He drawled, putting on a dramatic pout. “I was so sure you would enjoy your time, is it not to your liking?” He pulled the skirt back down, earning a desperate whine from you; but you didn’t protest. There was a promise of satisfaction in the lilt of his voice and you were willing to go through the ends of the world at that point to get to it.
You crawled into his lap, rubbing your face against his crotch in a futile attempt to get him to the same playing field as you were. But, he was firm, preventing you from getting what you craved and helped you back up on your quivering feet. The music had stopped and the lights dimmed, giving you a sense of security. You leaned against him, tears starting to form as your desire became the only thing you could think about. You wanted him so badly. “What else do you have in mind for tonight?” You asked, your voice shaking and you looked up at him.
“Just some games....” He replied casually, leaning in and placing a chaste kiss on your lips. Just the brief contact along sent a massive wave of arousal through you and you saw stars for a moment. “Mainly, I want to see how long before the special ingredients in those strawberries really kick in.”
Your eyes went wide. If this wasn’t the brunt of the effects coursing through your body, you weren’t sure how much more you could take. There was no way it could get any more intense than this, yet the way he spoke hinted only at a high that you hadn’t felt before. He chuckled, burrowing his head at the crook of your neck, kissing your sensitive, heated skin and you were helpless to stop him. Your whole body spasmed in need as your nerves were caressed and teased. It lost feeling at the tip of your fingers and your arms fell limp to your sids as you were completely swept away from him.
He didn’t need to do anything more than grab one of your breasts, kneading it experimentally before your tender nipples sent enough pleasure signals through your body to have you cumming. Your knees gave out and you sank to the ground, gasping as you rode out the sudden climax. The edge of your vision blurred and your ears rang as you caught your breath. Looking up, you saw Lucifer with that stupid smirk on his face, his eyes glittering and a noticeable bulge growing in his pants. You reached up to nuzzle it, burrow your head against the thing you crave and took in his musk. “Please… I need you…” You begged. “I need you right now…”
Those were the words he had been waiting to hear from you. Just the sound of your pleas were music to his ears and did more for his libido than you could ever imagine. He brought you back up on your feet, kissing you deeply and swallowing all the delightfully lewd moans that came from your throat. His hand laced into your hair at the back of your head kept you right where he wanted as he took the prize he had waited all day for. “Then you shall have me.” He said, licking his lips menacingly once he broke the kiss.
You were ready to sink to your hands and knees and let him use you as he saw fit. However, he brought you out of the office and into the elevator instead. You blinked in confusion until you saw him wave a black card over the scanner at the elevator, requesting for a floor that you never accessed before. It wasn’t until you stepped out that you realized he had brought you to the top most floor to his own abode.
There was no time to admire the great view that the floor to ceiling windows had of the city. You weren’t in the right mind to notice the collection of fine art or the practical furnishings that decorated his abode. All that mattered was the beeline the two of you made to his bedroom. Even if you wanted to take a second to soak in your surroundings, Lucifer gave you no time to do so, nearly throwing you into the massive bed in the room. You let out a little yelp of surprise when you hit the silky sheets; but that was quickly replaced with your need to feel his hands on your skin.
Now that he had you in his own space, in the privacy of his own home; Lucifer had the freedom to act as he wished. The first order of business was to help you out of that slinky number of yours. It had served its purpose and now he was ready to move onto looking at the most beautiful thing he possessed. He chuckled darkly, sliding the straps of the dress of your shoulders, turning you over just long enough to pull the zipper down to reveal your lacy underthings. As soon as the dress fell to the floor, it took no time at all for him to expose the rest of you by quickly removing your panties and bra.
Even if it took mere seconds to divest you of all your clothes, it felt like an eternity to you. The drag of the fabric across your skin made you shiver. His featherlight touches made you moan and when he finally pulled away to witness your nude form, the way he licked his lips made you shiver in anticipation.
Without clothes, the heat of your body was more bearable; however, it did nothing to quell your pussy’s need to be stuffed full with his cock. Spreading yourself wide once again, you beckoned him to take what you knew he wanted. This time, he was more than happy to oblige to your request. His clothes seemed to evaporate off of him; likely a result of some magic, but you didn’t care to discuss the details on how he removed his clothes. What you cared about the feeling of his weight above your own and the fullness you felt whenever he entered you.
Your hips levitated off the bed as soon as the tip of his cock started to tease at your folds. “Please, don’t play with me like this, Sir.” you cried, clutching onto the sheets below you as he made slow passes up and down your slit. He chuckled darkly, pushing you just a little further before he finally, gratefully put the tip of his cock into you.
Just at that, you could feel your inner walls clenching around him at your entrance, wanting to draw him in further into you. With how busy you had been with work and how much time he had given you to recover since being impaled by Diavolo and himself, it had been an eternity and a half since you last felt him fill your needy hole with his dick. A mixture of curses and his name fell from your lips as you hungrily took every inch of him. He was so terrible, taking his time to make the first pass in you; but it was the most fulfilling experience when he was fully seated inside of you. Your body molded itself around him, clinging to him for dear life as you rutted against his hips, begging for stimulation.
He didn’t want to torture you any further, after seeing your sweet face scrunch of up pure pleasure once he fully sank himself into you. Now, what he wanted was for your body to memorize just how good he could make it feel; and that meant fucking you right into his bed. The pace he set was just enough to bring you to the precipice of an orgasm with a few thrusts. “I know you want to cum…” He growled into your ear. “Feel free to do as many times as you want tonight.”
As soon as the permission was given, you spasmed around his cock still thrusting into you. You screamed his name, the sounds of sex and your moans filling the room as he picked up the pace and slammed his hips into you harder as you climaxed. Fucking you while your inner walls fluttered in orgasm never failed to bring him close to the edge and he was losing himself as well to the throes of pleasure.
You counted maybe two or three more orgasms before his own hips stuttered and his pace became erratic, his own release coming soon. You wrapped your legs around him, drawing him closer to you until his own hips stilled and he spilled his seed into you.
The brunt of what was in the strawberries finally hit you and the need that roiled in your blood intensified, making you keen and milk him hungrily. He pulled out of you, watching his cum drip out of your hole before taking a finger and slowly working it back into you. The sex was already mindblowing and your body was telling you that it was getting tired of being so overstimulated; but, it wasn’t enough. You wanted more and you pulled him in for a searing hot kiss full of tongue and teeth. “I want all of you. Give me that demon cock of yours. Fill me.” You demanded in between kisses. “Please, I need it…”
You heard him chuckle darkly before he agreed to your request. There was a fluttering sound and you saw black feathers in your peripheral vision as he shifted into his demon form. You smiled lazily, admiring how beautiful he was illuminated by the moonlight streaming through the window. You hadn’t seen this side of him since the first time. Even if you knew what to expect the second time around, it was just as awe inspiring as the first. You knew what was to come now and you eagerly awaited his next move.
“Hands and knees.” He growled and you scrambled to follow his orders. Your knees quaked a bit as you got into position. You could feel the bed dip from his weight as he joined you in it, lining the tip of his cock with your dripping cunt. With one smooth motion, he was buried in you right up to the top of his knot. “Yes... “ He hissed, fisting his hand in your hair and pulling you up to be flush up against his chest while he set a brutal pace. “Yes..”
You were in heaven, your body feeling nothing but euphoria as it conformed to every ridge and vein of his cock that worked in and out of you. You came only after a few thrusts, but you knew it was far from over. Lucifer’s thick girth and massive length working in and out of your dripping pussy would push you right to the edge of pure bliss and you couldn’t wait to chase that feeling with him.
His free hand snaked around your waist to rub your clit, sending you keening and again into another orgasm. His sharp fangs raked the soft skin of your neck, leaving welts and marks that would last for days. The pain only added to the experience and you rode out yet another high around his cock.
“All of me.” He growled, slowing his thrusts to start pushing his knot into you. You let out a strangled gasp, feeling the familiar stretch at your entrance. It was blindingly blissful, being penetrated so deeply by his cock and then to be stretched to your limits with his knot. There was no other feeling like it and even without the aphrodisiacs coursing through you, you knew it was the best sex you would ever have. You breathed slowly, feeling every inch of his knot enter you, your eyelids fluttering as you could only imagine what it looked like right now as your pussy engulfed him.
He groaned when the tie was complete, your core accepting every last bit of him and now, his true pleasure began. He pushed you back onto the bed, letting you brace yourself on your elbows while his hands went to your waist to keep you steady. He rutted into you, rocking back and forth and groaning every time he felt your walls clench around him. You could tell he was close and with one last possessive growl, he pushed himself as deeply as he could into you, releasing his load. The warmth of his seed filling you doing its job as it brought you to one last climax before you felt your arms give way and you collapsed from exhaustion.
Lucifer gently maneuvered you to lay on your side so he could join you in the bed with his knot still fully embedded in you. He could still feel his balls twitching, releasing his cum in spurts inside of you as he nestled you into the crook of his arms and protectively wrapped his wings around your form.
“Congratulations on making it through a year here.” He praised, stroking your hair and lulling you into sleep.
“Of course, I expect to be with you for many years to come.”
“That’s exactly what I want to hear.” He chuckled, kissing the top of your head as you dozed off into slumber. “Stay for the night… It’s too late to get you home by now.”
“It’s not like I’m going anywhere.” You said, clenching yourself around his cock and he chuckled at your response.
“This is very true.” He said, still petting you methodically and watching you fall asleep.
He waited patiently for you to start softly snoring before he allowed himself the privilege of resting as well. His knot was still hard and firmly entrenched in you and it would likely stay that way for a few more hours. He watched your body slowly rise and fall in slumber and listened to you mumble in your sleep while he let himself soak in the soft moment.
“I love you, Lucifer…” You mumbled in your sleep, shifting a little and clinging onto the arm he had thrown across you.
“I know.” He whispered, kissing the top of your head, fully satisfied with the result of a long years’ worth of training. “I love you, too.”
Caring for humans was still a foreign concept to Lucifer; but, he could make an exception for you.

Hello, everyone! So with COA being such a long-running series and new readers finding it constantly, I have come to realise that a lot of questions I get often repeat. So to keep everything easy and clear and friendly for everyone regardless of whether you started COA at the very beginning of the story or just recently found it, I have spent the day relaxing, eating junk food, and compiling this FAQ. Please read through it because chances are the answers are here somewhere. I have sectioned the guide into following: general, story, ships, original squad (OCs), AUS, OC!V and tips/advice. If the answer to your question is not here, please feel free to send me a message and have a wonderful day! <33 - kat.
GENERAL:
when does this story update?
I try to keep a bi-weekly schedule (now usually Sunday updates). But I always let you know when the chapter is done by making a final word count post (pre edits).
do you have a masterlist?
yes, you can find it here.
do you have a tag list?
not for COA. they’re very time consuming and I’m already really busy sorry :(
are your requests open?
I rarely open my inbox for requests. the only exception being the monthly blurb nights. then I reblog a prompt list and let people send some requests in for any fandom/ship. however, usually due to how many I get, it only happens every few months. that being said, you can still send me ideas/suggestions and if it inspires me, I will write it. that’s how the majority of the AUs have come about. but i’m also a very busy person so sorry if I can’t.
can I make X or Y for COA and tag you?
yes. yes. yes. please, please, feel free to create whatever for COA (no matter how small or silly) because I consider it a great honour that I’ve been able to inspire someone else. whatever it is, please tag me. I wanna see.
okay, I made a thing and tagged you but you didn’t respond :(
Tumblr is notorious for eating my notifs. whatever it is (art/post/etc) if I don’t respond to it in a day or two, please give me a nudge. you’re not being annoying, I promise. chances are I missed it/tumblr ate it.
I wanna scream/discuss/theorise about COA with others, is there any way for me to do that?
my amazing readers have set up this reddit page that is full of lovely people, theories, and memes etc. I check it often and interact on there, too, so feel free to drop by.
STORY:
how many chapters will COA be?
25. the last one being a very long epilogue.
have you decided on the ending yet?
yes. from as early as part 2. it's barely changed since.
will we ever see more of Prague/Naples? hoe, please say yes.
yes. I plan to write both as COA bonus stories after the main story-line concludes.
will there be a sequel?
depends. on two things: 1) if anyone will even care by that point 2) time. this story has consumed 5 months of my life entirely. i’ve been incredibly strict with myself when it comes to writing it (in a good way) but at best it won’t be finished till the end of august/beginning of september. so likely even if I do, there will be a break for a few months at least. I do have ideas though.
you promised us smut. where is it?
patience is a virtue. ;)
happy ending or tragedy? (please don’t say tragedy, you monster)
I would describe it more as “bittersweet” but whether it leans more towards bitter or sweet you’ll have to see.
SHIPS:
any endgame hints?
you know more about the ending than you probably realise
can v/s finally go to Paris? for the love of GOD? pLEASE?
no
hector + v? powerful. will there be more of them in the future?
agreed & yes. hector and v have their own arc to go on. it’s actually one of my favourites in this story. I don’t want to say more than that right now because I have plans for their dynamic so no spoilers. :)
please stop bullying john. give us some j/v content please?
i, for one, adore john. it’s team S that’s bullying him lol. but wait till parabellum. i’ve always referred to that portion of the story as the second coming of j/v.
does lucien actually have a thing for v or is it a creepy obsession?
it’s both.
I ship v with everyone :/ is that bad?
the sky is the limit. ship all the things proudly (but seriously, no, it isn’t. I ship all the ships, too, and that’s the fun of it)
v/elder tho? 👀
🔫🤡
j/v or s/v? be honest.
you fool,,,, you buffoon. ot3 j/v/s is where it’s really at. imagine their POWER.
ORIGINAL SQUAD:
what do the Elites/Lovers look like/how old are they?
please refer to this
will there be more step??
of course. he’s my baby. :)
will we see more of camorra/learn more about the elite’s and their backstories?
while I would love to take the time and flesh them all out with full backstories, only hector will be getting his backstory explored in the main canon because plot.
does lucien care for mika anymore or has he replaced her with v?
lucien is a messy hoe. mika is his subject of “affection” but v is his foil and equal. he recognises the same hurt in her that he has gone through himself so it’s more of a fixation. with time, lucien would likely destroy v so no bueno.
I ship our OCs.
I do, too.
can we write about your OCs/V?
so you would have to come to me and discuss this more in private but I’m fine with this sort of thing usually. in fact, a prequel hector story already exists so you’re likely good but please contact me first.
AUs:
when/how often do you update the vampire!au?
whenever I have time/inspo. mainly time. so this means you can get it daily or not get it for several weeks because COA is priority. I keep you all updated on when I have something cooking tho.
what is the actual pairing for vamp!au?
undecided as of yet. i’m leaning more towards ot3 right now but we shall see.
how often do you update flowing in me?
same as the above. whenever I have the time but I will keep you updated.
how many parts will flowing in me be?
I have 5 parts(ish) planned.
do you have a tag list for flowing in me?
I will. please leave a comment on the story if you want to be tagged in future parts!
will flowing in me feature other characters (john, winston etc.)?
this story is mainly camorra-centric but I do plan for John to appear at some point.
how did you come up with your lore in vamp!au?
to be completely honest....I just wrote a bunch of stuff down and used what stuck. mostly the ideas were pulled out of thin air while still trying to keep within the spirit of the canon material (the high priest, the holy church, the twelve priests, john being the boogeyman etc). camorra as the natural enemy seemed fitting and santino as a vampire prince even more so.
can we send you new au ideas/expand on old ones (manager!V etc)?
yes, always. I always try my hardest to reply but ofc I can’t promise I’ll be able to use them all but thank you in advance.
OC!V:
who is the face claim for OC!V?
weronika spyrka
what is her real name?
clara
how old is she at the beginning of the story and now?
23 beginning of chapter 1, 30 beginning of chapter 4 (current timeline)
will/would you ever write an original story about her?
I have considered creating something original out of COA itself or one of its sister series/concepts (like FIM). since I really started working on COA during last year’s NaNo, that might be the time I create something original this year.
TIPS & ADVICE:
how do you write so much, so quickly?
I don’t think that word count is really reflective of the quality work itself. I don’t think you should worry how much you write, either. 100 words can be just as valuable as 1k. most of them time I have a deadline breathing down my neck and I do work well under pressure so that inspires me to force the chapters out. I also do very long days because despite what it might look like I’m not a fast writer.
how can I improve my writing?
read and practice. I know it’s dumb and overused advice but it’s how I learned english and found my style (still a mess and WIP) but still this advice does help.
how do you keep motivated?
spite, your support, genuine adoration for these characters/word, a lot of spite.
do you plan? outline?
I have a vague story outline with specific scenes in mind as I go along (helps to set up foreshadowing, twists, and those ‘full circle’ moments). I also plan each chapter scene by scene and know what each chapter is meant to accomplish. So yeah in a sense.
#i will add more in the future if it comes to mind#with this future parts coming up i imagine more questions will repeat lol#faq post#fic: children of ares

Ask time! A, G, J, V, S (I'm reaaaally imaginative, oops)
Thanks for the questions! :D
A. What was the first fandom you wrote for?
So technically that would be Ever After High five-ish or so years ago. There was this character Bunny Blanc who I adored, and I decided it would be fun to write about her adventures in Wonderland in a diary format. I had a blast, but I was also twelve so there was nothing particularly good or original there. It is a very good thing I was unaware of spaces like AO3 or FF.Net, otherwise it would have be immortalized in the internet, and we really don't need that. I think I still have the notebook laying around though, might be fun to flip through XD
As for the first fandom I actually participated in and posted stories, that was Thunderbirds. I saw TAG on Amazon and fell in LOVE. I've been writing for them for... almost three years now I think? Though I only joined tumblr a few months ago. It was actually your stories that lead me here, Tsari. After your influx of IR Relief fic popped up on FF.Net I found my way to tumblr, and it has been a blast :D
G. Do you prefer writing one-shots or chaptered fics?
I think of one-shots like paper planes, I make one and then I let it fly and that's really the end of my involvement. But posting a multi-chapter fic is more like launching a kite, it's out there, but I still have to make sure it doesn't like crash into a tree or something. (Weird analogy but that's how I best describe it XD)
Most of my work are one-shots, which I have a lot of fun with and I stick with because I really only need an Idea or concept. Usually with those I just work on capturing a feeling or a moment. I don't necessarily need to have a plot (which are the bane of my existence). At the same though, writing Floodswept (which, as of now, is my sole multi-chapter fic) was a great experience. That story went completely off the rails, and while I personally blame Gordon, I had a lot of fun. Plus it was nice to have one story to keep coming back to, instead of having to think up a new concept every time I sat down to write.
So... that was a really long answer that didn't actually answer the question, so... I don't know? XD
J. What is your favorite fic that you’ve written?
Oh another hard question! I've got to decide more stuff now! (Conveniently ignoring the fact that I didn't really decide anything last question) I think I would have to go with Gravel, which is what I've decided to name my Sensory Sunday story that went up without a title.I feel kind of funny singling it out as my favorite cause it's so sad, but the writing process for that one was very natural and effortless. I'm not sure if those are the write words, but I was very much in The Zone, if that makes sense. The story itself reminds me of poetry almost, and I was very proud of the result.
V. Do you prefer writing established relationships or first times?
I haven't really written anything romantic because I find family dynamics more fun to work with and easier for me to relate to, but if I did write a love story I'm pretty positive it would be an established relationship. Though for me an established relationship doesn't have to mean romantic. I love the friends to lovers trope because the characters already know each other and are comfortable with each other. It's sweet and cozy and fluffy and I adore that, probably because it feels close to my family dynamics niche.
There is a story idea floating around in my brain that has the potential to turn into a love story, I'm just trying to decide if I'm brave enough to write it XD
S. What is your favorite pairing to write?
So like I said before I don't really write romantic parings, so I'm gonna cheat and use my favorite family and friend dynamics. I adore writing Virgil with pretty much anyone, because he's big teddy bear, but he usually ends up with Gordon because I love them together. They're like yin and yang but they *work* and they also understand each other really well, so they can work in seamless silence or know just what to say to get on each other's nerves. It's brilliant!
Also Gordon pops up in my work a lot in general, he's needy and demands attention and likes to hijack my fics. But I let him cause I love him. Plus, if I have a weird idea and go "would anyone actually ever do this though?" chances are Gordon would- and with style too :D
I also also adore John and Lady P, I haven't written much about them but if Gordon is my "would anyone ever do this?" than these two are my "would anyone ever say this?". Writing dialogue for them is so much fun, I love their dry wit, plus it's fun to write in British English for Lady P.
(Edit: this is me realizing I didn’t decide anything for this last one either...)

A Very Merry Christmas
A/N: Hellloooo, so I know it’s not the weekend, but in my defense, I lost a day. I thought today was Sunday but I have been informed I was wrong. Anywho, this will be a two-parter as I wrote soooo much it felt like I needed to snip it a bit. So without further ado, here is the next part (not in story timeline) of “Domestic(ish) Life”!!!!!
Series Masterlist
Word Count: 3100
The second Thanksgiving ended, you were all in on Christmas. This was not new information to Steve and Bucky. Though Bucky only had a year under his belt where Steve had five. But they knew how much you loved the holiday so even when they weren’t really in the mood, they put on the Santa hats and smiled because it made you happy. And there was nothing they loved more than seeing you happy. ---------
“Come on, come on, come ooonnn,” You whined as you tried to drag the two super soldiers into the tent.
“We’re coming,” Steve laughed.
“Not fast enough.” you groaned and ditched them to head into the tent in front of them.
“I don’t understand why we don’t do this-”
“If you say the old fashion way I swear Bucky, I will murder you.” You glared as he came up behind you.
He put his hands up and laughed, “All right, message received.”
“Good, now put these muscles to use and pull that tree out for me.” You asked as you patted his chest and pointed to a tree towards the back.
You knew that you could actually go to a tree farm in New York, but your family had always gotten them from the tents at Home Depot, Lowes, or just a stand off the main road. It was one of the traditions you couldn’t let go of. That and needing to get a real tree, even when you were alone and had to drag it up to your apartment by yourself.
Steve came up behind you and wrapped his arms around your waist, resting his head on your shoulder. The two of you shared a quiet laugh as you watched Bucky fight to get the tree you wanted from the pile.
“Thank you for doing this with me. I know it’s kind of silly, but-”
“Hey, it’s not silly. It’s something you love and something that means a lot to you. You know we’re there if it means making you happy.” He said. Bucky then let out a string of curses under his breath as he finally got the tree out. “And I can’t say I don’t enjoy myself.”
You giggled and moved forward to evaluate the tree.
Two hours and three Tree Tents later, you had found your perfect tree. The boys helped bring it up and set it in its base. You smiled, clapped, and did a little dance once it was in place.
“I’m glad you’re happy, but I am never doing that again,” Bucky grumbled.
“Aw come on, don’t be like that.” Steve teased.
“There is sap all in the groves of my hand. That shit is never coming out.”
“Le gasp! We do not use that kind of language sir!” You exclaimed in fake shock.
“God I hate you guys.”
“But seriously,” You giggled as you pecked Steve on the cheek in apology, “I told you to wear gloves. It is not my fault you didn’t listen.”
“I didn’t think they were necessary!”
“Well, you should know that I’m always right and you should really listen to me more.” You smiled.
“Whatever, let’s just decorate it.”
“Sorry hunny, but we can’t decorate quite yet. We need to give it a day or two to make sure it’s all puffed out.”
“I have no idea what you just said or why that’s a thing,” Bucky stated as he plopped next to you on the couch.
“It meeaanns, the trees from tents are usually all wrapped up, so it takes them some time to flatten out. So if we put lights and ornaments on it now, they are liable to just fall off once the branches have adjusted.” You explained.
“I see. I still think it’s stupid and next year we’re taking you to a tree farm.”
“Oh, so you’re already planning for next year huh?” You teased.
“You can’t get rid of me princess.” He said as he grabbed you and pulled you into his lap as he hugged you tight and layed kisses all over you while you giggled.
-----------------------
The boys were extremely unhappy when a mission popped up two weeks before Christmas. They were so excited to do all the fun Christmas things with you for your first official Christmas as a couple. You assured them it was fine, as it was just a day after all. You firmly held the belief that the day you celebrated didn’t matter, as long as you were celebrating with the ones you love. So off they went.
You were almost kind of glad they were gone. It gave you plenty of time to get their gifts done. You firstly picked up some of the gifts you and Bucky had discussed for Steve and the same with Bucky’s. You had all made the decision to include each other in the gift-giving process to make sure no one got the same things. It was working out pretty good. You did decide to do something extra for both the boys. You wanted to spoil them and it was something you’d been planning for a while anyway. So you got to work. Though you loved buying gifts, you also loved making them. It made you feel like it was just a touch more personal. Luckily you had some time off and were able to put it to use. You actually made it a girls’ night. Nat and Wanda weren’t needed for the mission, so you invited them and Pepper over. You all had a ball, mixing wine and crafts. Though they were all crafty in their own right, they always said your assistance and expertise made it way easier and the product much prettier. Some of the creations were just for fun, or in Pepper’s case, a fun gift to give the man who had pretty much everything.
“So what’s the deal with that?” Nat asked as she was laser-focused on her wine glass, not the one that was full, the one she was painting.
“Well, I’ve been working on this for months, bullying Tony and even enlisting Maria’s help to gather some relics from their past and- I don’t know. I thought it would be cute.” You said with a shrug.
“Oh it’s adorable, I just wasn’t sure what it was from or where you got the idea.” She assured you.
“Oh, it’s from one of my favorite movies.” You explained.
“I see,”
“Hey (Y/N/N), how do you use this thing again?” Wanda asked, staring at the Cricut with hatred in her eyes. You laughed as you put down what you were working on and went over to show her.
---------------------------
When the boys returned only five days later, they were thrilled. There was a minor concern that their mission would mess up the holidays, but luck was on your side for this one. But they were faced with a new problem. Christmas was coming fast, and they were stumped at what to get their girl. They knew very well she wasn’t super materialistic and cared more for small gestures then grand ones. But they were just so unsure of what to do. This was the first official Christmas as a triad, and they were panicking.
“I feel like you gotta go jewelry, my man, it’s a classic,” Sam suggested when the boys brought their fears and worries to him.
“But that’s just it, it’s classic. She deserves more than that.” Bucky said with a groan.
“I don’t know, jewelry is pretty romantic. And it can be kind of personalized for her.”
“Still not what we’re looking for though,” Bucky argued.
“Hey, you asked for my help!”
“No Steve asked you. For some reason,”
“Stop it, both you.” Steve sighed, pinching his nose between his fingers and shaking his head.
“I’m just saying, I mean, how many successful relationships has he had?” Bucky asked,
“I’ve had relationships!”
“Name two that have lasted longer than 2 months.”
“Listen here-”
“Enough.”
The three men sat in silence for a while after that.
“What about a companion?” Asked a female voice. Steve and Sam jumped a bit at the sudden appearance of Natasha.
“What?”
“Like a pet or something. I mean she’s always sad when she’s left alone when you guys go on missions.”
“No no, that part I got.” Bucky said, “But how the hell did you know what we were talking about?”
“You guys have been struggling for a week. It’s getting really close to Christmas, I gave an educated guess.”
“You scare me,” Sam said, completely straight-faced.
“Oh, I know that.” She said, smiling innocently at him.
“I don’t know Nat, an animal is so much work.” Steve said, “And they usually end up destroying a lot.”
“Yeah, but (Y/N) is great with animals.” She argued.
“I don’t know,”
“I kinda like the idea.” Bucky chimed in.
“Of course you would. You want a pet just as much as she does.”
“All the more reason. It’s a two-for-one gift.” Bucky said a bright smile on his face.
“I hate you.”
--------------------
An hour later the two men were at a local animal shelter asking the kind workers for help. The receptionist freaked out for a minute but was able to get over her shock and help them. They took a picture with her but made her promise not to post it anywhere until after Christmas as to not ruin the surprise. She willingly agreed.
“So, are you looking for a dog or a cat? Or something else?” She asked as she led them to a back office to talk so they wouldn’t be seen by others out in the main area.
“Uh, we’re not really sure actually,” Steve admitted.
The woman laughed and had them sit down to chat.
“Okay, so this is for your mystery girlfriend I assume?”
“Yeah, we want to get her a companion for when we’re gone, but we’re not sure what would be best,” Bucky explained.
“Alright, does she have a preference for one type of animal?”
The two boys snorted.
“Anything that has fur and four legs.” Bucky laughed,
“Well, that’s not true, she also loves birds and bats.”
“Oh true, can’t forget the bats.”
The woman looked at the two icons in front of her, fond smiles on their faces as they spoke of their lover. She hoped she could one day find someone who would look like that when they talked about her. “I feel that I'm the same way.” She laughed, “Unfortunately, we don’t rescue bats here but we have lots of furry friends.”
“Do have any animals that have been here for a while? Or any animals that you guys don’t think anyone is going to take?”
“Well, we have quite a few that have been here for a year or more, a few senior animals which are less popular, and then animals who have some form of illness or disability.”
“Not one with an illness or disability. Though I’m sure she would love it unconditionally, I think a healthy animal would be better.” Steve said.
“So judgmental Steve,”
“Shut it punk,” Steve said as he glared. He turned back to the woman who was smiling as she watched the two men.
“Come on, I’ll show you a few different critters and you can see what you think will complete your family.”
She led them out the door and down a hallway. Immediately they could hear the barking.
“So, these are some of the dogs who need special attention or are small enough we can fit them in the kennel. We have bigger dogs and healthy ones outside in big pens so they have room to roam.” The woman explained.
She led them to a cage with a small shaggy terrier. It started yapping as soon as the boys walked up.
“So this is Nancy, she’s 3 years old and she’s been here for 8 months. She had some heartworms but she is finally done with treatment and is ready to find her forever home.”
The two boys shared a look.
“She’s cute but I don’t think we want a tiny dog,” Steve said.
“Specifically no yappers,” Bucky added.
The woman laughed and nodded, “I don’t blame you. But that will help our search a little bit.”
She then led them outside where they could see a number of fenced-in areas with dogs of all kinds running, sleeping, or playing with their toys.
“So, first we have Pluto, he’s a 6-year-old Lab/Pit mix. He’s a sweetheart but people get scared with him being part pitbull. He’s active but not so much that he’s too much to handle. He does enjoy going for walks and playing with his ball. He also loves tug-of-war, but I usually warn people about hurting their shoulders due to his strength, but I get the feeling you two won’t need to worry about that.” She smiled as she crouched down to call over the dog.
“Yeah, I think we’ve got that covered.” Steve laughed.
Bucky got down right next to the worker and started petting him through the fence.
“Oh, aren’t you a cutie. Oooh, you’re so sweet.” Bucky cooed.
“I’m gonna live to regret having you here aren’t I?”
“Listen, these cuties need someone to love them. Let me live my life.” Bucky snapped playfully defensive.
Steve laughed and they all moved on to the next dog, then onto cats, and finally the birds and small critters like hamsters and ferrets.
---------------------
Their next stop was the pet store. They talked to the woman at the shelter about what supplies they would need and she gave them a detailed list with some things that weren’t necessary, but might be good to have.
They never realized how many toys you could get for animals. Needless to say, they were extra glad for the instructions as they would have been lost without them. They had put their new family member on hold to be picked up on Christmas Eve and somehow figure out how they were going to smuggle it into the apartment. But they would worry about that later. Right now they were arguing over colors.
“We should get the pink or purple, they’re girl colors,” Steve argued.
“Did you really just say that? Do you know what (Y/N) would say if she heard that?” Bucky asked with a raised eyebrow.
“Yeah, you’re right.” Steve nodded, realizing his mistake.
“Obviously,”
“Don’t get smart with me punk.”
“Whatever, we still need to pick a color.”
“What about (F/C)?”
“No, that’s a weird shade. She would hate that.”
“What about this one?” Steve asked, holding up a sparkly red/orange one with little brown flecks in it.
Bucky tilted his head. “It’s very fall, but I think she’ll love it.”
“My thoughts exactly.”
“One thing down, a hundred to go.” Bucky sighed looking at the list.
“I don’t want to hear it, this is all on you pal. You wanted to do this.” Steve said.
“Oh I know, I have no regrets.”
---------------------
Once they had all of the stuff, they made a quick stop to get bags, boxes, and wrapping paper. They knew they would have to wait until tomorrow to wrap their gifts as by now you were bound to be home from work and they had too much stuff to hide effectively.
They were so glad they had figured this out because they were down to the wire. It was only five days till Christmas.
With it being so close to Christmas you were practically glowing and floating on air. There was constantly a Christmas candle burning and music playing. After all the stress of the year between missions and dealing with telling people about your relationship, the boys were glad to see you let loose and be happy. You were only minorly stressed out because you had offered to host a small Christmas Eve get together with a few of the team who didn’t already have plans. Though you would all be gathering at the Tower for Christmas dinner. But on Christmas Eve it was just going to be Sam, Wanda, Vision, Natasha, and Bruce.
You had grand plans of making all sorts of delicious baked goods for both meals, but on top of it, you had to make an actual dinner for Christmas Eve. But you were thrilled. You loved hosting events and you were ready to hold a holiday in your own space. The boys helped you clean everything and make sure all the presents for the team were wrapped, as well as the presents for each other. You managed to wrangle Steve into assisting you with some of the cooking and decorating of the desserts. Bucky had long been banned from the kitchen because he infamously ate everything and you would end up having to make more. So he was stuck on cleaning duty and doing other minor jobs for you.
-----------------
After a whirlwind of activity leading up to the big night, it was here. You all had discussed it and decided to get a bit dressed up, especially since Tony had decided that it was going to be a pajama dinner. So while the food was finished cooking, you got all dressed up in a dark red, sparkly, knee-length dress. You did your make-up and put on some jewelry before topping the look off with heels you knew you would take off within half an hour. Each of the boys stuck with a nice pair of jeans and a button-up. Both looked absolutely delicious. Not long after you all finished getting ready, you heard the first knock at the door.
As everyone arrived, wine and mixed drinks were served and you all gathered at the table for the meal. As they all sat, you stayed standing.
"Before we all enjoy this meal, I just wanted to say, thank you. This has been a rough year between missions gone wrong and huge fallouts. I want to say thank you for being my family when my family was being dicks. I firmly believe that family isn’t defined by blood but by love. I feel so incredibly lucky to have wonderful people like you surrounding me and trying to keep my dumbasses safe." Everyone laughed a bit, but your eyes had started tearing. "I love you guys. Thank you for accepting me into your family and for understanding that love comes in many forms. Merry Christmas." You finished, raising your glass, tears trickling down your cheeks.
Everyone chorused a 'Merry Christmas' and you sat between your boys, who both squeezed your hands and kissed your cheeks.

Night Moves
My parents sold their house. The house they bought before my sister and I were born, in that weird slip of time I’m told was the late 1970s. They’re moving to Providence, city of my father’s birth, and a place where a modest condo can be bought, for two people facing next and (yes, we all must admit) maybe final chapters. Over the 4th of July holiday, I spent a teary two nights in the house, going wandering in Boston with a friend and then, just as it was time to leave for the train, taking last passes through the small expanse of the place. I cried. I made myself cry? I don’t know if the tears were real or forced or if forced tears aren’t actually real. But I did. Almost wept. My mom pulled the car out of the driveway and there was my dad, good old Dad, walking the dog up the hill, the last time I’d ever see that. I blubbed, discretely, until my mom asked me a question and then it was hard to hide. “It’s just a building,” she said, which is what I’d told myself, what my therapist had told me. It’s just a building. Just a thing that teemed with all the stuff of our lives for 40 years. And now it’s not.
The day before this goodbye, my family and I went to a wedding. My cousin’s kid got married, an assemblage of people I’d not seen in at least 20 years. It was held at a country club south of the city, and was full of that kind of straight wedding swagger I hate so much—is there no worse sight in the world than groomsmen in suits clutching bottles of beer? That effortful commitment to male casualness amidst the formalness? It speaks to such an ease, the way these men move through the world, that my sister and I were repulsed by it. During the wedding, a long and violent thunderstorm rolled in. But just before that, my family and I wandered the grounds of the country club, walked along the ridge of a hill that offered a view of the city, the whole of Boston laid out there in the hazy, humid distance. The four of us there, lined up and regarding it. It felt like a maudlin farewell. To this city we’ve all been so tethered to, just then rendered so small, so faraway.
I traveled a lot this summer, more than I had planned. I went to Provincetown for a few nights, my new favorite place, and felt the mid-June thrill of all that. I went to Los Angeles, mostly for work—a grinding reporting assignment that has yet to bear fruit but still could be something good, I hope—but also to see my sister. She’s so good at day trips, feeling so blessed with a car, and we drove up to Ojai, spent a late morning and early afternoon in its clenching, clean heat. We hiked a short distance to a waterfall, where barefoot kids were laughing and dogs were shuffling around. We went into town, roaming an outdoor used bookstore where I searched for my own book and, as ever, came up short. I’d heard so much about Ojai and, while finding it beautiful, was surprised by how little it offered. “You have to be rich to enjoy it,” I said to my sister as we got back in her car and, sealed up in the air conditioning, drove back to the city.
In Los Angeles, I spent a lot of time holed up in my hotel, a once-trendy place on the Sunset Strip that has a thumping pool club and is just the right amount of uncomfortable to feel cool. It’s a full-service place, so I could take my meals there, do drinks on the patio, barely leave the confines of it. I went a little crazy, swaddled up in the gray blanket of that place—its easy, healthy-ish, sour food, its lukewarm sauvignon blanc mood. I felt like I was there for a whole long Shining winter, growing a beard and going insane and locating some truer kernel of myself than I’d ever known existed. I let myself skitter out into the night on occasion, to see friends and revel, just a bit, in the riot of a city I hate. (I’m sorry, L.A. friends. I have tried so hard to like Los Angeles, but it makes me so stressed and unhappy and full of constant Sunday Scaries that I have to hate it. That said, I can’t wait to visit again.) But mostly I was alone, conducting halting interviews on the phone, pacing around in my cold room while tall trees fluttered in the balcony window. One uneasy afternoon, I watched a bug crawl around the enormous beanbag chair the hotel provided and figured it knew what to do with this lump of furniture more than I did.
I just got back from Fire Island, another place I have tried to love and—unlike L.A.—might finally be done with. What a dream of an idea that place is, and yet in execution, or at least in my admittedly narrow experience of it, what a drab and horny and exhausting thing it actually is. I don’t fit in there at all, which is a strange sensation for someone who has prided himself on being able to adapt, to quickly recover, to renegotiate physical and social spaces as needed. Fire Island, the Pines in particular, is a bridge past a bridge too far, I’m afraid. Not because I don’t admire its moxie, its Speedo tan-ness, its louche, buggy reverie. I love that people love it. I just feel sad that Fire Island is something like Paris—a beautiful dream I’ll never be able to actually step into, that I’ll never feel filling me like air, like smoke. (I Juul now—another life update.) But it’s good to have that conclusion—to know, because of increasing adulthood and experience, that it, hey, just isn’t for me. I wish it the best. I wanted to blow a kiss to the island as the ferry puttered away back toward Sayville. Goodbye, place! Goodbye, dream! Goodbye all you wonderful people who partied and yearned and grieved and fucked and fell in love there. See you in Ptown, maybe. All you lively ghosts, living and dead.
Fall trips loom. Film festivals, which are so much fun. I’m going to Venice for the first time, next week, and I am so stressed and excited and curious. I booked an Airbnb that’s not near the movies, that’s on the main island with all the canals and handsome gondoliers and luring, leering pasta. (My Fire Island diet nearly killed me, readers.) I chose holistic life experience over festival ease in booking that place and I hope I don’t regret it. And then it’s straight on to Toronto, a festival I love, a town I am growing to like, with people I know and with whom I’m so ready to pretend it’s summer camp again. Fall camp. Autumn camp. What a good time that will be.
But it will keep me away. I’ve been away so much this year, which has been exhilarating—I gave an award out on stage at a loud gay discotheque in Guadalajara, Mexico!—but also lonely, and denying. The thing I’ve sort of stylistically held for the end here is that I fell in love this year, and while it’s a new-ish, only nine-month relationship (“We have a baby,” I said to Andrew tonight), it’s still a totalizing thing. It’s impossible to look at all of this—parents moving, cities roiling, islands churning—not through the lens of that. How terrifically grounded I have felt this year, to something good and happy and intimate and huge in its smallness. This is the first time I’ve really written about him—a scientist, a smiler, a kind and gentle person who calms me and encourages me—and it feels a little scary to type it out. But there he is, suddenly a center.
When I was home over the 4th, my mom told my sister and me a story about our cousin, the one whose kid got married at the country club. I guess when this cousin was little, a toddler maybe, she would often say, “I need something.” Just that. That quiet little unspecific thing. “I need something,” she’d say in a small voice, tugging at pant legs and looking up at the adults hoping they’d understand and satisfy whatever it was she was asking for. I’ve thought about that a lot since my mom told us about it, there in the backyard I’ll never see again. I need something. I need something! I NEED SOMETHING!
Of course we all do. Need something. Need so many things. I get corny, thinking about it. I want to say what a mad and blissful and terrible adventure it is, to go chasing after that need. It is. But, again, that’s hokey. So I guess I’ll just end this ramble with a little moment, from Fire Island. I went to bed early one night, and was half asleep when some of the boys of tea came home. I heard them rumbling around upstairs in the living room, muffled laughter and bottles opening. It reminded me of being a kid in the house I grew up in, that will now be lived in by a nice family from Framingham who wrote a heartening letter to my parents about how much they loved the house. That feeling of life happening just beyond the light under the door. And maybe it is. But in that room on Fire Island that night, there was also the beautiful dark, also the hum of the air conditioner, the whine of the mosquito, and there was me, breathing and blinking and alive. That was so much, too.

Weekly Life Update 23
It’s been two weeks. It’s Monday night. I’ve been busy.
Okay, so I’m moved back home. Sort of. There’s a corner of my room (most of my room) with a bunch of boxes of things I don’t plan on unpacking before they have to be moved to the apartment. There’s about a foot in a half-two feet ish space between my bed and the boxes for me to stand and a little path to the closet, dresser, and door. It’s a little annoying but I’m either gonna bring the boxes up to the Bay or my dad will keep his promise to clean out the basement.
On the bright side, pretty much done school now. After a good long week of procrastination, I wrote a 5000+ word paper in less than 12 hours, tweeting as I went, which you can catch here. I have one exam left, on Wednesday morning, and I’m heading back to North Bay tomorrow (Grandma’s taking me so it might be a little fun mixed in with my studying).
I still have not been employed for the summer, but that’s alright. I’ll find something. That’ll be my primary goal after Wednesday.
Big fandom things happening. Game of Thrones is back on, maybe you hadn’t heard? I did my first live tweet (delayed by life, but whatever) of the show and honestly this is the first time I’ve really felt part of that GOT fandom. Grey’s had a really Amelia-centric episode, that I personally needed. I like Amelia, but sometimes I forget how much and this reminded me. Heartland’s season 12 finale was last Sunday, and I wasn’t stressed because for once we already knew it had been renewed for the next season. Ummm... also The Bold Type is back on! It snuck up on me a bit, I kinda forgot it was coming back, but luckily mom knew, and it is such a feel good show about women’s experiences.
Upcoming fandom stuff...Taylor Swift is releasing new music on April 26th. The same day Avengers: Endgame is hitting theaters. I’ve been LIVING for Marvel memes this week. Here’s one I can’t help but laugh at EVERY SINGLE TIME I SEE IT.
Anyways, that’s about what’s going on right now. I’m hoping once I’m back from this exam and after Easter and stuff I’ll a) get a job and b) have an opportunity to go visit some more people and c) have some time to do the actual recording and releasing of my podcast. Cause that’s still on my projects list!

My studio was out of power for almost a week
I’m re-vamping my Patreon again in an attempt to make up the lost $ from this past week. I lost a lot of work time, mostly time that would have been spent making and releasing new products. Luckily I got it back just in time to fill in orders that were due.
Details of the studio power troubles below the cut.
The first week that I had the studio, we spent a ton of time just making it clean and slightly warmer. The second week, I was able to move in all of my furniture and start using it to take orders!
Halfway through that second week, however, the power stopped working. The wiring had just given up and was honestly probably dangerous at that point. I called the building manager at 4:30PM and was told that I’d have to wait until Monday because the maintenance man only worked 8 to noon. I was furious, but didn’t get mad. I did have my first panic attack in months, though, and ended up hanging up on the guy.
Monday came and went, and I texted the building manager. The maintenance man would be there Tuesday. He was, but he didn’t fix anything. He just took apart the outlets and called it a day. On Wednesday, two of the power outlets we working and there seemed to be no intention of fixing the rest. I decided I could live with that, since they were luckily within reach of my computer and my machine.
That was all in October.
Now, in January, the power went out a second time. This time it wasn’t just the outlets in my studio, it was also the ones in the hallway. I called the manager, doing my best to stay calm, and was reamed for not saying “good morning” straight away (sidenote: it was 2pm). He seemed way over the top angry for such a little thing so I offered to call back at another time. He stated that he was at his daughter’s birthday, but that he had time and wanted to know if I was a tenant. I told him yes, but insisted on calling back later since I didn’t want him to miss his daughter’s birthday. I hung up as I could feel the anger rising in my throat - both at his shitty attitude and at his gall to answer his work cellphone at his daughter’s birthday. I had only planned on leaving a polite message anyway.
The moment I hung up, I started crying, but got myself under control quickly. I sent a long and very strongly-worded (yet still polite) e-mail to the management company about how frustrated I was that this happened yet again, and included what the manager had said during out short one-sided conversation. E-mail means a record of contact, which I definitely prefer now since the first time this happened was only over the phone.
Sunday- nothing Monday- nothing. I know Monday was a holiday, but these are rich white realtors who could be bothered to answer an email. Tuesday- I sent two more emails in the morning.
When I didn’t hear back by about 2pm, I wrote another email (mentioning legal action this time) before calling the leasing office. They’re desperate for new tenants right now, so naturally it didn’t even ring once before I was answered. I was greeted by an over-the-top-polite woman who called me “sweetie” every other sentence. She at least allowed me to share the whole story, starting from when I moved in. I complained to her about the hired management’s lack of professionalism, constant sub-par “maintenance” experienced by myself and the other tenants, and that I was not afraid to break my lease if this happened again. She promised to have maintenance call a professionally licensed electrician this time, and stated that that’s what should have been done in the first place.
Right when I got off the phone, I received an email back from the management office. No apology, just one sentence saying that an electrician would be out by the end of the week. It was something, but I didn’t have “until the end of the week.” I had orders to fill and new products that needed to be stitched out ASAP. One of the other management office folk called me, the man who showed me the unit in November, and asked me for the whole story. My fiance was there for the whole conversation so that I didn’t forget anything. He also promised that this would never happen again, and he was going to be talking with maintenance.
Quick note, every time that I e-mailed, talked to, or texted anyone at all, I made sure to say that I did not want maintenance to go into my unit without me present. Fully knowing that they wouldn’t listen, because this request had been ignored before, my fiance and I set up a security camera in the corner and had it alert us of any movement. Sure as hell, the maintenance man was in and out of my studio dozens of times between 9:30AM and 11:30AM on Wednesday morning. What was he doing? Going around with one of my plug-in devices to check each power outlet several times and then scratching his head while looking at the ceiling. I also got him calling the leasing office to tell them that I wasn’t there. The woman on the other end of the line sounded frustrated, as if the problem was going to have magically fixed itself and they weren’t going to have to spend any money.
Around 11:30, I got an email from management saying that an electrician would be there in an hour. No hello, no goodbye, no apologies for the trouble. Just, “an electrician will be out within the hour,” and the nested email that she was replying to. I checked the camera, and the electrician was already there. The maintenance man was letting him in, despite my repeated requests to not do that. I had a friend go with me to my studio so that I would hopefully not embarrass myself. On the way, I call from the leasing office saying that an electrician would be out around 4pm. I didn’t question it at first, since I’d already seen that an electrician was there and maybe they meant they’d be there by 4pm.
The moment we got there, I composed myself and was polite but firm to the maintenance - an old bald white man missing most of his teeth and any actual know-how about how to fix this problem. Which would be fine except that he did try to fix it previously. He left naked wires just sitting in the wall with no caps on. He installed outlets wrong. Worse things that the wiring getting fuzzed out could have happened. I was lucky that his idiocy and the management’s cheapness didn’t cost me my equipment.
The electrician was in the middle of disassembling one of the breaker panels in the hallway. The maintenance man literally told me he had no idea where the breakers for my unit were. WHAT THE FUCK. I knew where some of them were. I didn’t know about this one, because it’s still labelled with the room numbers from the goddamned 1940s. I was about to lose my cool when the electrician - someone I had not right to be mad at yet - asked me to tell him what all wasn’t working. So, I led him into the studio to point out what stopped working back in November, what still wasn’t working, what maintenance had “fixed”, what maintenance said he fixed but hadn’t, what still wasn’t working since November, and the “fixes” that had re-broken. He was confused at how all of this happened when there was nothing I was running that should have made this happen. He opened one of the outlet panels that maintenance had “fixed” and discovered that it was installed incredibly wrong. Another sidenote - I know how to install an outlet safely. But maintenance dude didn’t, but tried anyway. You don’t do that. I also asked the electrician if he could please re-install some of the outlets that maintenance removed completely for whatever-the-hell reason.
Once the electrician had a good idea of what was going on, my friend and I left because there wasn’t really anything we could do. Needless to say I continued watching on my camera until they left. I got a text from management reminding me that the electrician would be there around 4. Upon calling them back, I found that maintenance and management called two separate electricians without communicating with each other. I was too stressed out to go back to my studio. I also fell asleep around 10-ish when all the stress of keeping a cool and collected demeanor all day hit me.
On Thursday I could still feel the stress of dealing with this shit again in every single muscle and joint. Also it was like, -13*F here and that never helps. Upon checking my studio, I found all the outlets to be in working order and gingerly started working on an order, certain that the power would bust again.
Luckily it’s all still fine, and I got a whole week of backlogged orders done today.
However, I still missed out on 5 and a half days of productivity. I did stress this to management, and it looks like I’ll be comped for a month of rent. We’ll see if they follow through. Now I know that threatening legal action and threatening to leave and spread their shit through the artist-seeking-studio community (definitely still gonna do that last part) does work.
The other artists in the buildings are planning a straight up coup against management. This realty company treats its tenants terribly compared to every other similar set-up in the area. My documented issues will definitely come into play very strongly when we rise up. We will not be treated this way. We will not allow these people to profit off of our tenancy while they do jackshit to improve or fix the building., or respond to complaints.
Last week there was a guy violently yelling in the halls and the tenants were told not to call police by the management because they “didn’t want trouble”, and instead simply escorted him out. Glad I have both a security cam now and 12inch shears.
#art studio problems#honestly this realty company is basically tumblr staff#they bought the buildings hoping to make a quick buck without doing any work to make the spaces safe#there's literally asbestos tile in most of the rooms#and the pipes have been exposed to TCE-laden water

It was raining when we get back. prayed maghrib and isya in some random mosque. went back and arrived at like 8 past sumn. showered, slept like a babyy
2 - lazed, slept and woke up at like 11, went to nila’s house, practiced doing eyeliner by borrowing nila's (focallure brand), iftar at green sedayu foodcourt (originally intended to go to the yumz but it enforces actual distancing) with angkot ppl minus tik will. Arrived home at about 9-ish.
3 - magang as usual. Went to rm. Took mrt to lebak bulus. My inaco salary finally came. My head kinda hurts after tarawih. Ended up skimming over bj alex lmaooo. Did not shower today lol,,,,
4 - added dr dafsah's revision to the excel database otw to rsf. Pak nardi took a while to arrive. Left rsf early to go to the bank. I (((finally))) activated m-banking lmaooo wow the features are neat wow im not jahiliah anymore. Found this method of just let it sweat anyway during tarawih lmaoo. Preferably with long sleeves bcs somehow you feel less of the sweaty feel compared to tshirt.
5 - sampling - data entry - RM as usual. Theres no new RM. Read a goood dramione fic by bex chan even if its not complete, its okay. Im okay :"))). Iftar was soup, salad, chicken katsu and french fries. Its been 2 days that i practiced sleeping-to-rain-sound. The first night was spent as a dreamless quick sleep (its over before you knew it), but tonight i dreamed abt almira's wedding lmaoo.
6 - no sampling today!! Still went to rsf tooo go to the mall w regen lmao. Did some data entry. Went to PP by mrt. Went back by going to halte gbk and thankfully the kalideres one arrived after only waiting for 5 mins. Its surprisingly quick, compared to lebak bulus - pesakih trip. Took abt 20 mins to jelambar.

Had homelab's green tea mixed with vsoy. It honestly made me feel better. Matcha, or caffeine, sure is amazing. At least i had a sense of normalcy before losing all the will to self-care
11 - consumed internet entertainment u til i was sick and tired of it. Watched a lot of cut videos. Granny came and stayed over. So i slept upstairs
12 - same as 11 but upstairs. More relatives came near iftar time so i excused myself to shower. Slept in mom n dads room at like 12-ish. Watched hp goblet of fire since keisha and karins newest obsession was draco. We squealed together over liking enemies to lovers trope haha,,,,
13 - Somehow all of dad's jakarta relatives came for lebaran. the last time i checked, there were some bridges being burned. prayed eid at home. watched perempuan tanah jahanam (which was surprisingly not scary). ate. napped. talked about personal things w keisha and karin. i cant believe the time has finally come where we talk about this kinda stuff. watched you’re next (it barely has any plot, just gore). they went back at about 8 pm and i just sleptttt yall lmao i didnt shower today. disgusting, i know

15 - run bts. Originally planned to go to flavola but it was still closed, so i went to dm's dunkin. Ordered orange juice and oeanut choco donut but somehow the price wasnt package price hhh. Turns out my clires account was somehow banned. So i contacted the admin. Instead of doing dr dafsah's excel i ended up taking off the makara sticker from my laptop. Bought some stuff for almira's bridal shower. Bought arirang at hari2 (its funny bcs yesterday i was seeing online marketplace, planning to buy it, but turns out hari2 the magical place had buy 2 get +1 deal for arirang.

(bought outer and white culotte). tidied up the writings on my stickies (plenty of words has accumulated). ordered onejai for emir juan (expensive!!! 79k no promo lolll but free delivery. i was baited by gojek’s 1k 2 week subscription and felt like hmmm i should get something since we live in the middle of nowhere and free deliveries felt significant at that particular time when im holding my phone lmao). fell asleep after drinking vsoy + matcha lol its soft caffeine no longer works i guess
27 - woke up late as usual, went to sbux at 1 pm. tried white peach matcha frapp. the peach overpowers and u can barely taste the matcha. tried to read something useful (in medicine) but skimmed 2 ppt and then i saw solid’s bitly for isip. finished reading banana fish. couldnt bawl my eyes out because im outside.
28 - checked out rsf. Still no new ones. Immediately went back. Lazed and wasted my time
29 - iluni webinar. Here comes the impending life crisis. Ate nasi uduk and mie goreng telor today. Tried vsoy golden grain with matcha. It has almond aftertaste. Line call with kris for almost 4 hrs until 11 past sumn pm.
30 - more iluni webinar. Dr Eric, SpPD, PhD was rly cool. Tried daily box (butter soy chicken). Quite tasty. Mkg w regen. Videocalled in the mall w silvi racil bcs its ale and nadaa's wedding today. Bought gooma 500ml matcha w gofood pickup discount. Ate sushi go (the shoyu has mirin btw). 50k+ you get 6 piece of sushi (2 salmon) and matcha cake and ocha. Quite a nice deal. Talked abt cryptocurrency lmao. Went back and forth w TJ. All hail tj
31 - planned to do at least some productive stuff at home. turns out nila is outside and had some time to spare. so we went out. i met her in citra 6. we went to pik’s white beach. its scorching hot since its 2 pm. spent like 15 mins there. we had wanted to stop by monsieur spoon but THERES A QUEUEEE even if its a hot afternoon. so we ate tom sushi at green sedayu. talked a bit afterwards in nila’s place and then i was picked up by emir. tried gooma’s matcha. its not sweet like sbux. approved by mom (who doesnt like sweets). but its more expensive than sbux’s 2L 100k promo lol. (45k after gopay pickup promo for 500 ml). reread bj alex lmaooooo found new tidbits

it’s not friendship, it’s fellowship [part 1]
Note: I wrote this with a specific image in mind because I was reminiscing about the old days when I was in youth group. I’m cautiously tagging @1honeypot because honestly… I kind of wrote this with her in mind. Happy belated to another leo I love! Happy birthday to jungkook too (it’s still 9/1 in some parts of the world). Also I’m still on hiatus, but I really wanted to get this out!
Pairing: Jungkook x Reader Genre: romance (kind of?) Warnings: Christianity Stuff of the Protestant Tradition, Self-Aware Slut Shaming, Slow Burn Word Count: 3123 Rating: N, for No Sex Yet But Soon (T)
*
Jungkook looks... vaguely desirable to you at this current moment in his white shirt and tie and clean, brushed hair - a realization that has you blinking from incredulous amusement because this was just the boy you grew up with on a part-time basis, only seeing him on Sundays and the periodic, non-Sunday Morning Worship church event.
*
Your parents remind you on no uncertain terms that your presence at church this Sunday is required. It’s the first Sunday you’re home after five weeks spent on a mission trip with the Christian Students Fellowship from your university, and you’re recovering from sunburn and jet lag. Even though you beg to skip out on morning worship just this once because you’ve already sacrificed the dermal layer of your skin in service to the Lord, there’s really no point in arguing when your father is a deacon and your mother is the treasurer. Hashtag #fucked.
“You can give testimony,” your mother jokes with a smile, and you crush the grimace that threatens to form. You’d rather eat a shoe, and you hope pastor won’t make you get up in front of the older adults and talk about your adventures in proselytizing.
So it’s on a disgusting and humid July morning that you force yourself out of bed to stand underneath a stream of cold water, trying your best to freeze away the redness from your body. You look like a molting Frankenstein – a motley mess of uneven, fried tan lines. And even with the help of the world’s most expensive primer, foundation, and concealer, there’s no hiding flaking skin. Gross. You wouldn’t hear the end of it from your little group of ex-youth-group brats.
“Do I have to go?” you ask, giving it one last college try with your mother. It’s t-minus five minutes before hauling ass in the church van where your father will make his rounds, picking up the elderly and those in need of a ride to church. “I look ugly. Everyone’s going to be too busy looking at how it’s snowing dead skin to pay attention to my testimony.”
You’ve resigned yourself to the inevitability of speaking into a microphone that countless other have spit on. Your mother gives you a sympathetic look and reaches over to blend out a stray bit of concealer you missed on your face. “It’s not that bad.”
“Not that bad. So it is bad…” Your mother was incapable of mincing words to make you feel better, a double-edged sword in most cases.
“Jungkook won’t notice,” she says with a knowing look, cutting right to the heart of the matter.
You wince because she’s too perceptive for her own good sometimes… She pats your shoulder and climbs into the front passenger side of the van.
Is it dissociation? Is it just zoning out? You don’t move for a good thirty seconds because simply hearing his name makes you feel out of sorts. Jungkook is the unfortunate recipient of a crush that just won’t die no matter how many times you’ve tried to kill it. At this point, you’re too weary to try to stop the butterflies anymore.

[Easter Sunday, Last Year]
It is blessedly dry on Easter Sunday. College decisions have been pretty much finalized and stamped with no take-backs at this point, and you’re more relieved than happy to have made it into a second-tier Ivy League school. Finally, you are done playing the most painful waiting game known to anxious high schoolers. Ivy was still Ivy no matter the level.
Taehyung is the first person you see when you walk across the church driveway towards the chapel. He’s wearing a smart, grey suit that looks like it was almost tailored to fit his body, and it seems like he’s on greeting duty this week.
“Looking good, Waitlist,” he chuckles, referring to the pastel monstrosity of a dress that you’re wearing. At least it wasn’t floral.
“Can you not,” you grumble with an awkward tug at the fabric that’s a shade too light for your taste. “I wouldn’t hear the end of it if I wore black again.”
(“It’s Resurrection Day! Not a funeral!” your mother had lectured last year when you wore the classy, black Chanel one piece your grandmother had gotten you for Christmas.)
“Also,” you continue, “I got into college, so you can’t call me that anymore.”
“I knew you could do it,” Taehyung tells you warmly. “You were always the nerd of the group.” His congratulatory remarks are genuine and in good humor. He hands you the program for the service, and you head inside through the white double doors.
You inhale deeply, inaudibly, and remind yourself not to fidget too much in the chiffon.
“Happy Resurrection,” says one of the older, married women in the church when she sees you. It’s not quite time for service to begin just yet, so some of the congregation is milling about. “You look lovely.”
You paste on as smile that you hope looks genuine. “Thank you. And happy Resurrection to you as well.” The words are rushed out, and you pass her by with a slight incline of your head.
There is a loud sound coming from one of the back rows of the chapel. You can see Jungkook and Jimin laughing, the backs of their heads shaking atop their shoulders as they take turns slapping each other’s arms and guffawing. Ever since graduating from kid’s church years ago, they had always sat next to each other in one of the back rows alongside Taehyung and Hoseok. A part of you never stopped envying them for their camaraderie and how their parents let them do whatever they wanted.
With calculated, rapid steps, you breeze past the oblivious boys to sit in your spot next to your parents in the front. It felt uncomfortable enough to have Taehyung comment on your dress, and you really didn’t need Jimin or, heaven forbid, Jungkook to make a light-hearted joke about your uncharacteristically bright-colored ensemble for the day.
The laughter pauses when you’re three steps in front of them, and you know they’ve seen you. You don’t turn your head to check.
The Easter service is pretty good. Surprisingly, pastor has some new material for a subject that’s been done to death. You wonder how many permutations existed for preaching about the resurrection in a fresh, new way; sometimes it felt like watching a movie with the ending spoiled. Your mind doesn’t wander as much as it did in previous years, but maybe it’s because you’re desperately trying to repress the discomfort of the Dress.
After the pastor gives the benediction, you’re fully prepared to cut out of “bible study” tea time and small talk with the excuse of studying for finals. It’s the dumbest thing ever, but you already have your follow-up lie handy (“I can’t slack off even if I did get into college, just in case.”). And the best part is that everyone would believe your overachieving ass would actually go home and open up a textbook.
But before you get to slip out, you are intercepted by Jimin who looks like he’s about to give you his obligatory words of congratulation. Taehyung and Jungkook follow close behind.
“I just heard,” he says softly, proving you right. “Congrats.”
“Thanks.”
It’s awkward - so, so awkward. And maybe it’s because he’s still not over your botched confession from last year where you told him how much you liked him during the annual retreat. Honestly, it was a poor life choice on your part because right after you confessed, your feelings for Jimin practically evaporated into thin air within a week. So when Jimin let you down gently a couple weeks later, it felt like nothing. You didn’t care one bit, but he thought you cared. You never had the heart to tell him about your fickle emotions when he put so much effort into crafting a rejection that wouldn’t hurt you.
“Can’t believe our babies are leaving the nest,” Taehyung sighs wistfully in a purposeful, dramatic way. He’s going for the contrived joke route to dispel the tension in the air.
“I’m not a baby,” Jungkook groans in a long-suffering way, as if he’d repeated the same statement at least one hundred times. “Congrats by the way,” he tells you as an afterthought.
“Only babies say they’re not babies,” Taehyung laughs.
Your eyes settle on Jungkook as he rolls his eyes in that signature, bratty way of his and mimics Taehyung in mocking tribute. Somewhere in between the word “babies” and Taehyung pushing Jungkook into the armrest of a nearby pew, you get the feeling that something is very much different about Jungkook today.
Easter Service meant formal-ish wear, so Jungkook is wearing a full suit minus dress shoes, much to his mother’s chagrin. His sneakers are a sharp contrast to the ironed pants, and the blazer is laying on a seat somewhere in the chapel. But the most important thing you grasp is that the suit that had always been a few sizes too big fits him just right today, and suddenly things click in your mind.
Jungkook went to the local public school with Hoseok, Taehyung, and Jimin, the other youth group brats of the church; you attended a Christian private school. The two of you were never close enough to cross over the boundary of Church Friend designation, but you were still the type of friends to spend hours swimming and biking together during retreats.
Growing up, Jungkook wasn’t even a blip in your radar of Potential Boyfriends. Your eyes and heart naturally gravitated towards the older boys in church who were cooler, smarter, and nicer than Mr. Jeon’s weirdo son who used to sit in a corner and speak to no one. First impressions were everything, and at age eleven, you had decided to tolerate Jungkook since your precious Hoseok took a liking to him.
But right now, at this very moment as you observed the three boys in front of you joke about college and life, Jungkook’s laughter gets your heart racing.
And wow - you are really that fickle...
*
[T-Minus 1 Minute Before Leaving, Present Day]
“Wanna drive?” your father asks, dangling the key to the vans as he walks up next to you. You shake your head.
“I can’t park that thing,” you reply, rejecting his offer not unkindly. You could have taken your own car to church, but your father had wanted to go as a family for your first Sunday back.
You sit in the first seat behind your father with your Dutiful-Daughter face pasted on as he drives through three different towns to pick up the Old Folks. Their children have long since put them in homes, but they refuse to change churches even though they live too far away. You understand that this is their only way of socializing with friends; you just hate to be involved in the transportation aspect.
The elderly members of the congregation have always been nice to you since you were never a problem child, so it’s not unpleasant to greet them as they pile into the car with their canes and hats and shawls. They ask about school (“it’s going well, thank you”), boys (“oh, I couldn’t possibly date right now when there’s no time”), and how pretty you’ve gotten minus the sunburn.
“I remember when you were this big,” one elderly woman chuckles, holding out her hands to mimic the nineteen-and-a-half inches of your birth size. “You were so tiny growing up. You and Jungkook. Now look at the two of you.”
You catch the reflection of your mother’s eyes in the rear view mirror before looking away. This would be a long ride.
The Easter Realization had made you grateful for the fact that Jungkook would be going away to college on the opposite side of the country from you; it had been your experience that distance was the perfect method to erode away at any emotional hold over your heart. The last thing you wanted to do was act on some tiny inkling of lust over a boy from church. You grew out of your crushes over Hoseok, Taehyung, and Jimin (in that order), and you were not at all interested in fixating over another boy from youth group who went away to college and came back changed.
Except of course, the story never goes like that, and fixations have their own, stubborn, unique life cycles.
It was almost like an out-of-body experience to see yourself obsessing over his facebook during your first semester of college. Realistically, there were Plenty Of Other Fish In The Sea, but seeing him tagged in mildly compromising pictures with older, tall girls unburdened by the label of church brat made you feel a little bit worthless on the inside if you were being completely honest in all your dramatic repulsiveness. It was an uncharitable, ugly thought but you secretly referred to them as “sluts” in the comforts of your mind, while liking his pictures out of reciprocal duty. He had always left likes on your pictures, so you couldn’t not do the same.
Spring semester went exactly the same with respect to your dumb emotions concerning Jungkook (who looked so fucking good when he came back home for winter break with a tan and muscles). In your desperation, you had even asked your mother to pray for you to snap out of this crush.
After being fed up with feeling so hung up on Jungkook for no reason other than Raging Lust, you managed to get in touch with Skinny Joshua Hong from the Christian Students Fellowship and volunteered to be a part of the summer mission trip. The less you saw of Jungkook the better, and your parents were through the fucking roof their daughter would be the first one amongst the youth group brats to embrace the ChristianCollegeLyfe.
But if you thought five weeks in a remote location without any access to social media could have cured you of your stupid crush… well you were dumb to even hope. The minute you got wifi after the plane touched down back home, your ass was on facebook and scrolling for updates. Pathetic.
This is your mental state as it relates to Jungkook when your father finally parks the van in the church parking lot. The elderly climb out of the vehicle gingerly, and before you can even get out of the car to assist them, you catch a glimpse of hazel hair as Jungkook rushes over to help.
“Grab onto my arm,” he offers the same elderly woman who had called him “tiny” when he was younger. She actually giggles when she grips his bicep. “Watch your step.”
With a gulp, you open the car door on your side, and assist the rest of the passengers in getting out. Your parents walk into the building first along with the elderly folks. You take your time in shutting to door once you’re done, hoping that he would have already gone in without you.
“Hey.”
No such luck.
After not seeing him for many, many months, Jungkook looks taller if that were even possible. Maybe it’s his posture; maybe it’s the fact that his scrawny arms were now mildly peapod-shaped from regular exercise. Whatever it was, he looks taller and much more like a man than you anticipated. He’s wearing a light blue collared shirt that looks hastily ironed. The collars are pressed in an uneven shape around his neck. On him, it looks charming.
“Hi,” you reply with the eloquence of a cow because you honestly cannot think properly with him so close to you.
“Have a good summer so far?” he asks while the two of you make your way to the building as well.
“Yeah,” you shrug in an attempt at nonchalant coolness. “You?”
“Can’t complain,” Jungkook shrugs right back, looking much cooler than you could ever be on your best day. “Did you like the mission trip?”
“My soul did,” you answer, “But my skin did not.” And right after those words leave your mouth, you want to hide because why on earth did you bring attention to the flakes when he wasn’t even there yet?
There is a pause where you have to wait for him to evaluate the status of your skin. You can see the movement of his eyes trace the contours of your face before making eye contact once more.
“It’s not that bad,” he finally says, complete Déjà vu from earlier.
You give him a disbelieving look. “If I shook my head right now, it would snow.”
Jungkook purses his lips to reign in a laugh that might have potentially hurt your feelings just the smallest bit. “You should have seen me after spring break,” he tells you. “My back looked like one of those world maps… with all those continents and countries and stuff. Except it was my skin.”
The two of you enter the church building, and before you go up to the front to sit with your parents as usual, Jungkook stops you with an “oh by the way.”
“What?”
“Taehyung-hyung was thinking about having dinner with all of us since Hoseok-hyung is back for summer break too and since we’re all in college now,” Jungkook explains. “Do you wanna go?”
Your heart is more overjoyed than it should be. No matter how many times you tell yourself in the span of one and a half seconds that this is an obligation invite, not some date request, you can’t help but to melt.
“Yes,” you answer, voice moderately firm enough for your liking.
“Cool,” Jungkook smiles. “We haven’t figured out a place just yet, so if there’s somewhere you wanna go…”
“I’m fine with ev-anything,” you say, catching yourself from saying “everything” before you became too obvious.
He groans. “I knew you were going to say that.” Jungkook looks glum. “We’re going to eat fast food at this rate…”
You would be fine with grass and weeds if that meant hanging out with Jungkook outside of church-related events.
“I’m sure you’ll figure something out,” you tell him.
“If you have any recommendations…”
“I’ll let you know.”
Jungkook looks satisfied at that answer. “Okay. Text me if you have anything then.” He glances over to your parents who are busy talking with pastor up at the front. “Can’t wait to hear your speech.”
“Kill me,” you sigh. You didn’t enjoy the feeling of having everyone’s eyes and ears and attention span trained on you.
“Hang in there,” Jungkook tells you with a pat on your shoulder. The pat feels like hell fire, and you imagine six different ways to Sin with him.

Cold Breeze—Sunday Chats (11-19-17)
Another week, another Sunday
It’s been a long week for me. Not in actuality, because I’ve slept an average of 10 hours a day every day this week, which is both a good and a bad thing. It’s good because I’ve been sleeping crazy well. It’s bad because it reminds me of my Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, of my sometimes inability to drag myself out of bed to do anything. It’s also a common habit I fall into when I know I’m depressed, and while I push back as much as I can against that overwhelming feeling, it’s still there. Ever-present. And it sucks.
It helps to know that the ExtraLife team, now disbanded, is definitely full of the melancholy. We all miss each other. Some more than others, assuredly, but there is just so much love an affection there. I think taking that step back in the aftermath of ExtraLife, the distance, the pride fills me more because of the tight bonds that were just driven home over that week.
It’s full on Persona-style bonds. Maxed social link meters and unbreakable relationships that serve as tentpole and standing memories and gifts that we all cherish, equally. It’s a comforting feeling, in the sad/loneliness.
But I digress.
It’s been very good for games! And I’ve sunk my teeth into some big ones this week.
What’s On Tap
Assassin’s Creed Origins
This is the really big one. I’ve spent about 25-ish hours with this title this week.
I love this game, which is super surprising. I wrote a big long thing about all the wild changes they made on this blog, so I’ll refrain from repeating myself here.
One thing I really love in this game is Bayek, the main character. The relationship with him and his wife Aya is just so good. They just fucking love each other so much and its disgusting but sweet and kind of nice. it’s this central bond that the plot swirls around and it’s really strong, unlike other AC games.
I also think the side quest quality in this game is remarkable. It reminds me a ton of The Witcher 3. While I don’t think the voice acting is quite up to that same par, it’s astoundingly excellent.
I dont’ have many complaints about this game. I really just adore it. And I’m thankful to my friends Barrett and Youssef for recommending it.
Destiny 2
I’ve only been playing a bit here and there, with another playdate with Tony and Greg tonight. It’s been fun playing the game again though, and I’ve excited for the new content coming early next month.
Overwatch
I just wrapped up playing some Overwatch just now, trying out Moira.
Moira is excellent. She is exactly what the healing team in Overwatch needed, a new on-the-ground healer. I feel like Ana is just not an effective healer at all, at least on console where aim and precision is not as strong.
What I love about Moira is that healing is a resource for her, she needs to tap into it, and if you run out, you can’t heal anymore. It means you need to use her primary energy drain weapon, get out there, and be aggressive in order to be able to support your team.
It’s a lot like Doomfist’s shield, which he generates for using his abilities on enemies, and it requires him to use his skillset to then be a better and greater asset to his team.
Moira also heals herself with her attack, so she benefits herself and her own play style by being aggressive.
I really like her. She may take top spot as my primary healer, but I am also incredibly fond of Mercy’s new ultimate, so it’s a toss up. Much like all the many characters I play in Overwatch, it’ll depend on the situation.
Questions
Remember to look for my tweet on Sunday afternoons with the hashtag #SundayChats in it. Reply with your question, and you’re in here.
Let’s do this.
On a personal leve, because I don’t think 2018 will hit the same highs for me, I want there to be more surprises. Again, this is for me, because I think there were huge hit surprises this year for folks like PUBG, but I just didn’t have quite so many hits.
On that note, I hope those surprises come from smaller, indie games. Like I think that was a collection of titles that got lost for me this year because of the stellar AAA games that took the spotlight, but those weird and nuanced and special indie games are some of the best experiences I live for, and I hope with more room in 2018 I’ll be able to get lost in them.
Personally I just use the Twitter app on my phone, and I’m happy with it. Most folks I know swear by Tweetbot, but I’ve never really gotten to use it myself.
As for Desktop, it’s all about Tweetdeck. You can tweet from multiple accounts, and have just multiple timelines open it it. On mine I have a news story feed for games, my timeline, my mentions, my notifications, and then the IP notifications too. It’s the way to go, in my experience.
It was the greatest thing I’ve ever been a part of for about a dozen different reasons.
I’m excited to be able to relive it in the archived videos.
I’d love to visit Hyrule castle town either from Breath of the Wild or Twilight Princess. This is all pre-apocolypse, of course, but especially in BotW it seems like such an incredible and bustling place. I’d love to see the different peoples and cultures of that world melted together in that supreme beauty.
Another one is Hengsha from Deus Ex, because it’s the two-layer city, kind of like Midgar from FF7. I’d just love to see that in person. That’d be more of an architectural look, just to see that crazy design in person and up close.
Another would be Inaba from Persona 4. Just because that place is like a second home for me. I’d love to finally see it in person.
Hrm, that’s tough. I have a lot that I just need to boot up and get through at this point, so it’s likely the ones that I just know I’m not going to get. A big one is Night in the Woods. I’m determined to make Edith Finch happen, but Night in the Woods seems like a really special game that I’m just not going to get to.
That list of indie games is depressingly long for me too. Pyre? Probably won't get to it and I want to play that so bad. Steamworld Dig 2? I may not get to that this year. I’ll definitely play it but probably just not this year, and that’s such a massive bummer for me since I loved the first one so much. The Housemarque games this year too, since I loved all the times I played them in preview settings.
I do still have some time, and I plan on getting through a few good things between now and the end of December. We’ll see what doesn’t make it.
For me its a handful of titles that maybe Nabeshin has thrown out to me. I’d like to try Red Dead Redemption at some point. And 999. Those two are huge standouts, but outside of that, it’s hard for me to think of some franchise that I haven’t dipped my toes into at least a little bit with the given time.
I should probably play Tokyo Mirage Sessions someday but we’ll see. Still have it sealed in the plastic wrap.
Man, this is so hard. Ideal is tough too, because maybe that implies I’ve been there?
The place I’ve always wanted to go my whole life is Ireland. Its the motherland right? It calls me back. That, and Japan. I’ve wanted to take the journey to the land of the rising sun since I was old enough to barely mutter JRPG. Those are the two places.
Let’s go.
So, for context, I saw Justice League last night and... I really loved it? Like, I loved everything about it?? I feel crazy, like I’m Greg Miller defending Batman V. Superman??
But I think if I saw it again or I took the step back, I could totally see why people dislike it so vehemently. I was honestly shocked because it... well, it felt like Justice League to me. It felt like it was out of an entirely different DC Cinematic Universe. And maybe my expectations were so low? I don’t know.
But anywhere, there are going to be spoilers in my response here, because Liza deserves the best response I can muster for this, since we’re JL believers.
YOU’VE BEEN WARNED.
Boy when Superman shows up and is just straight up like, good, smiling, wise cracking Superman (again, a totally different character than he has been up until then, but I didn’t care because fuck I miss good Superman) I was just grinning ear to ear. They managed to tap into Henry Cavill’s charisma and make him shine as someone I could actually believe is Superman. And just seeing him work with a team and work with other heroes, like, that’s Man of Steel I know and fucking love, and they just nailed it in this movie. It made me so happy. You have no Idea. It’s like I’ve waited my whole life for that.
So yeah, he was my favorite, but I liked everyone! Any second Wonder Woman was on screen was perfect. They made Batman feel so much more like Batman here it was ridiculous. I liked Cyborg a lot, and I feel like they gave him a great arc from self hatred in the beginning to “wanting to live” in the end. Aquaman and Flash were just a ton of fun.
For me it’s just under Wonder Woman since I thought they just nailed Wonder Woman so well, but I really really loved it, as I’m sure you could tell. I was just a happy kid grinning that my heroes were finally on screen together, and it was rad.
Haha oh my god okay I don’t think I can pick ten different fingers, but I was thinking about this when I grabbed the question. Probably like, someone who’s fingers have powers, like Emperor Palatine or something? I guess Cole McGraff would be the real world video game equivalent, but someone who would let me shoot lightening out of my fingertips. If I could just choose one then one of theres and then the others from all the characters in Until Dawn.
Because why not
#AgentOfChaos
Eh.
It’s fine.
Honestly, the lesson you shared with me Tyler has been a really great one. For folks curious, it’s about Mountain Tops. It’s a great analogy to the higher moments we find ourselves in in life.
https://twitter.com/acegiak/status/924762544383782912
That and one I’ve taken to heart over the last two or so years, which is just to listen, and to care, and to pay attention. You don’t need to interject your opinion in every controversial topic, and far too many people do. But that doesn’t exempt you from paying attention.
We don’t have anything concrete in the works, but we have a lot of ideas. I think PAX East is something to expect us at, and I think more written work in the future is something to anticipate soon too. Not more from who is there, but more and new voices. Exciting voices too, if we can muster it.
I’d totally be down to play Overwatch for 24 hours. I just love the loop of that game. I’d probably hate myself and it at around the 18 hour mark, but I think I could still muster it.
Least willing to do would probably be something best experienced in short bursts, like a Spelunky, or a Flint Hook, or a Cuphead, Some games require breaks and I think those fit into that fine. Doesn’t make them worse or bad by any means, but when you can walk away and come back better rested, those are good picks.
The Checklist
I have been essentially off reading stuff, but it’s worth shouting out a thing my best friend Jazz wrote today, about ExtraLife 2017.
http://brazenbebop.blogspot.com/2017/11/extra-life-2017.html
She is getting into the writing of the content, and I’m excited to support her and see what she comes up with.
I am tired again, but excited to finish some things I’m working on.
Thanks for sticking with me, and for the unending support.
And for taking care of me.
Much love.
Keep it real.

one-year anniversary countdowns: our favorite scenarios/headcanons we’ve written
our first blogaversary is coming up on sunday, and we decided to celebrate by counting down our top 10 favorite pieces we’ve written, both of our own and of each other’s.
today’s post is our own favorite works that we’ve done for this blog!
may
10. Demon King!Oikawa falling in love with a human - i really barely know anything about demon king!oikawa so this was really tough and worrying for me to write (because i’m a stickler for details and i hate mis-characterizing anyone) but i am so glad it turned out okay. and i really like how it reads too lol 9. #15 - snuggling on the couch (with bokuto) - this is my first real drabble that i didn’t fuck up lol. as you guys know, i like my works drawn-out, lengthy and detailed. so being able to actually write something as cute as that thing and only in so many words made me immensely proud of myself lol. it put me out of my comfort zone and made allowed me to try something new 8. Close Call (with Kuroo) - this was fun to write! i generally have a bad time writing NSFW (what even is anatomy lol) but writing in that interrupted bit made my day lol 7. the Superhero AU (with Kuroo and Tsukishima) - ah yes. the first fic that i had mistaken for another request. i was surprised how easy it was to write this ngl. i had so much fun thinking up the superpowers and the dorky and corny names. i tend to steer away from superhero fics because of how hard it is to get everything straight lol, but this was so much fun to do 6. Pregnancy Scare (with Iwaizumi, Tsukishima, and Kuroo) - okay so i legit had a lot of fun with this one, but for the sake of there being 3 characters to write for, i cut kuroo’s waaaaay short. i liked thinking up different situations for this one, though, and i really hope all the emotions came through well enough 5. Decorating the Baby’s Room (with Oikawa) - so as i said on the post, i legit could not get the ideas of volleyballs as planets out of my head. writing it also made me remember my cousin’s old bedroom, which was filled with murals of disney princesses and spongebob and dora that my aunt hand-painted herself. it was a nice trip down memory lane while writing. 4. Fighting for the Best Seat (with Bokuto) - so. much. fun. writing this thing!!!! it’s a legit dream of mine to go to an animal cafe without getting attacked by allergies lol, so this is the closest i can get to that dream for now 3. Hitman!Kuroo falling in love - it’s dark, it’s angsty, and it’s just the type of fic i love to write, despite having such a hard time during the writing process itself lol. the terminology had me searching for “parts of a gun” and “pistol” on my office’s computer so i’m wondering what they must think of me now hahahaha 2. New Girl (with Ushijima) - this was so easy to write you cannot believe. seriously i think i finished it in two hours???? the idea came to me so suddenly and i just started typing it out and before i knew it, i was writing tendou being a supportive troll friend at the end! i seriously love this one omg 1. #42 - netflix marathon (with Kuroo) - so this is the drabble that i accidentally made into a fic. but for the life of me, this is by far my favorite one. i love sense8 and i love kuroo and i love binge watching shows so it seemed like i basically wrote myself in there. but seriously, this one is my ultimate fave of the ones i’ve written for this blog
rachel lauren (i had a few in multi-character ones that stood out, so those characters are bolded for emphasis)
10. S/O Sending Memes at 3 AM (Shiratorizawa starters + Semi) - my first “viral” post. aside from that, i had a blast writing this. my friends call me the resident memeologist, so getting to dig into my embarrassingly vast knowledge of memes and how the boys would react to them for this one was a lot of fun. 9. Friend Dumped (Tsukishima, Oikawa, Nishinoya) - if we talk outside of this blog, you probably know that it took me a very, very long time to warm up to oikawa. i only started liking him a little bit after i made this blog, but this is the request that made me enjoy him completely 8. Getting Back Together (Kuroo) - the request that launched a thousand kuroo/manager!reader ideas for me. i’m a sucker for broken-up couples still very much in love getting back together (i can’t help it! i’m a romantic!) 7. Fight (College!AU-ish) (Kuroo, Iwaizumi, Yamaguchi, Suga) - i love writing angst, especially where characters don’t die because death isn’t the only root of sadness, surprisingly. salt aside, yamaguchi’s was definitely my favorite of this group because i really examined his character for it. suga’s is up there too. all of them are, but these two were my favorite of the group 6. Interrupted Proposals (Valentine’s Day 2k17) (Ukai) - i mean, it’s a proposal request with my husband? if you don’t think i savored every minute writing this self-indulgent scenario, then i don’t know what to tell you. 5. Buying Condoms from Sakanoshita (Karasuno boys) - other than this being our most viral post, i had so much fun writing these. i still crack myself up reading some of them (noya’s, kags’, and tsukki’s especially) 4. Proposing (Kuroo, Asahi, Tanaka) - when my cousin proposed to his girlfriend-now-fiancee, i knew i had to use their story for something because it was so darn cute. it ended up fitting tanaka really well, and i’m so glad because i love that boy. and asahi’s was just....really cute 3. Ukulele | Morning Cuddles and Kisses (Ushijima) - it’s a tie for these two because they’re both fluffy and softboy toshi is a weakness of mine. actually, can i put all of my ushijima requests here??? because i feel so warm rereading them sometimes 2. A Happy Accident (Birthday 2k17) - i have to thank the anon who requested this, because this was essentially a plot point in that ukai/reader WIP i have so it forced me to write it. granted, there are some differences that i’m going to modify for the fic, but of course my husband was going to be up high on this list and this was so cute. i was more than happy to write it 1. Model Girlfriend (Asahi) - when i think about the work i’ve done on this blog, this is always the first one that comes to mind. i really do think this is the strongest writing i’ve filled a request with and i’ve got some decent ideas for asahi and the reader character for other potential pieces i’d write about these two, request or otherwise
and that’s a wrap on this top 10~
tomorrow we’re going to count down our favorite of each other’s works and then on sunday, we’re going to post a special announcement so stayed tuned for that!

BEFORE YOU START READING
If you haven’t read my previous post, I would like to encourage you to consider donating blood this summer! It will benefit many patients in the various hospitals within Toronto and can save lives. Here is an article about the current shortage of blood:
http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/critical-blood-shortage-1.4164669
Truthfully I’ve been putting off writing this because its been so long and updates have accumulated since I last wrote. It’s my fault for being lazy haha but I’m back now with a fresh update right off the press. A fair warning: I’m not sure how long this update is going to be but something is telling me that it’s going to be a mini essay. Grab some tea or something as you’ll probably need to sit and read (I mean, if you want to).
Shorter Days
My days at the hospital are shorter now that I’m in consolidation. It also helps that our appointments are always in the wee hours of the morning (okay not THAT early but it’s early for me…) Getting in early usually means getting out early. Blood work and ECGs (something used to monitor my heart) are only done on Mondays and Thursdays. Those days are a little longer but we still get out before rush hour. I now usually have the second half of the day to myself to do what I want to do (which is usually not much because I’m usually rather tired when I get back from the hospital).
Medical Updates
That being said, this past Tuesday (my birthday) was the last day of my first consolidation phase. I now have 3 ish weeks off before I start my second cycle. I am eating my oral chemo pills during this time off but I do not have to go to the hospital to get chemo through my IV. I go to a clinic three times a week to get my line flushed (just so nothing bad gets into my picc line and infects it). My dressing also gets changed once a week. I’m doing pretty well consider it’s only my first phase. I am experiencing no major side effects which is great. I will talk about this in a subcategory but for now I can proudly say that although I’m more tired than usual, I have not experienced any side effects from the chemo. The only thing that has been a little tricky is my picc line. My skin developed a sudden reaction to the adhesive from the dressing that protects the site (where the pipe uhh, goes into my body LOL) from germs. I got rashes under the dressing as well as around it. I put some prescribed ointment whenever my dressing is changed underneath the dressing. The rashes around the dressing have subsided and the type of dressing has been changed. It’s still kind itchy underneath the dressing as there are still some remaining rashes but it’s nothing that I can’t handle. Fair warning: the picture is kinda gross.
My birthday
As some of you know, my birthday was this past Tuesday aka July 25th aka my last day of chemo for phase 1. Thank you to everyone who wished me a happy birthday! This birthday was a little weird for me. It’s something that I have to repeat to the nurses on the daily (actually literally everywhere in the hospital. It’s for safety reasons ofc) and when the day actually came I was like YUP WOW I’m 22 now. Anyways, I’m incredibly blessed with amazing family and friends. My parents bought me this BOMB NEW LAMP. I’m so stoked about this lamp, it might be the best thing that happened to my room.
this picture doesn’t do it any justice. It has 12 different dimming settings AND there are 5 different types of light. Natural light, cool light, warm light, idk what other light but there are 5 settings. It’s amazing ok?
A group of my close friends surprised me the Sunday before my birthday. They blew up 22 helium balloons as well as many regular ones and hid in my basement, scaring the living daylights out of me. I love them. (they bought me the kpop albums that I’ve been wanting from my favourite group). Did I say I love them? Well I’ll say it again. I love them.
I also received a package from the States from a friend that used to live in Canada. (If you’re reading this I hope it’s okay to post this picture!)
I may have shed a womanly tear or two.
I received a touching card that also made me cry more than one womanly tear. Why are my friends so amazing?
Lastly, two of my friends actually dropped by my house on my birthday to give me some cheese tarts from Uncle Tetsu. (Don’t be mad at me Uncle Tetsu cheesecake lovers but I think I like the tarts more.) (Also, Carmen and Tiff, if you’re reading this I hope it’s okay that I post this picture too HAHA)
I’m not sure what my hand is doing and I really need to stand straighter but THANKS GUYS! I love you so much! *sends heart eyes your way*
my “cake” cutting process (although I already too two huge bites as you can see LOL)
Imminent hair loss
It’s not really imminent, it’s already happening. I used to watch movies and stuff where someone had cancer. The sad parts are always when they run their hand through their hair and chunks of hair are tangled in their fingers. WELL THAT’S HAPPENING TO ME RIGHT NOW and even though I said I was ready in my previous blog post I am Not Ready (capital N and R for emphasis). I fortunately don’t have any bald spots yet, it’s a even hair loss I guess but once it gets really patchy this hair will be gone from my head. Come on Renee, you can do it.
My carpet after every shower. This amount has now doubled.
My future plans
Some of you have heard already but I am officially enrolled in an online course for September! I’m excited to get my schooling on again, even though it’s only one course this semester. My hope is that by January, I can take 4 courses or so and be a full time student again.
My days off
Now that I have three weeks off, I’m going to be pre-studying for the course that I’m taking. I’m worried that my brain has not been worked as much as it should’ve been during the past few months. I’ve also picked up bullet journalling/photo journalling again. The process is soothing and it allows me to be creative in my own way.
this is my title page for the month of August. It’s the first time I’ve drawn something with pencil crayon (I find the medium really hard to work with LOL).
Someone suggested to me that I write a book/memoir about my experience with leukemia and the more I think about it, the more I’m considering doing it. Sometimes I narrate words in my head and it sounds kinda good LOL. Renee the author…I feel like my parents would be the only ones that would buy this book LOL
My wishes came true
I’m going to say it. I ate gon chow ngau ho for the first time since I got diagnosed.
LOOK AT THIS BEAUTY.
I also was able to go out for the first time in a really long time. I went to Unionville with my parents and we ate ice cream. Even though I’m mostly still house-ridden I’m glad for opportunities like this.
My mom said I need to change my smile immediately.
Annoying insurance companies
My chemo pills are were covered by my mom’s insurance company. They’re really pricy and I was glad that they covered it UNTIL they told us that they will no longer cover it. Long story short, I just turned 22. That means I will not be covered anymore unless I am a full time student even though the reason why I need to be covered is the reason why I cannot be a full time student. It’s…frustrating. We’re still sorting it out.
Prayer Requests
Please pray for my parents as they have SO much on their plates right now. Pray that God will give them the wisdom and strength to make it through all of it.
Please pray that something will happen with the annoying insurance company. I feel so hopeless about the situation
Please pray that I will not cry if I lose all my hair HAHA
Please pray for me as I prepare to start studying again. I’ve never been the greatest student but I want to do well despite the fact that I’ll be studying/going through chemo at the same time. School kinda scares me.
Thanks for reading friends!

REQUEST: Guy and a Fry (J.Jones)
REQUEST: Can I get a request with Jughead and the reader. She’s his bestfriend and considered the “gorgeous friend” and Reggie has a thing for her but shes only got eyes for Jughead and everyone knows it but him. Reggie gets fed up one day when the reader tells him off for something he said to Jughead and he tells jughead he doesnt deserve her. Angst and fluff maybe? I tried to follow the prompt 😕😐 if this doesnt follow, I apologize
A/N I hope this was what you were hoping for Anon, sorry it's late, I decided to re-watch Death Note for some reason and I got a little distracted. Also very sorry, if this isn't fluent my best friends girlfriend broke up with her so I was trying to do two things at once while writing this.
WARNINGS: NONE
WORDS: 1521 ish
Guy and a Fry
"Hey Juggie." You ask interrupting the settled silence between the two of you. It was late, and you were both situated in Jughead's booth at pop's, sitting across from each other. A few other high school student sat in other booths trying to finish their homework which was due in the next morning, but the restaurant was seemingly quiet. It was Sunday evening, and every Sunday night, you found yourself sat across from the boy, him typing away on his laptop about the events that occurred earlier on that day while drinking his straight black coffee. To any outsider he seemed completely oblivious to your presence, but to you, you knew that he found great comfort with you sat across from him. And without your residence in the chair opposite from him, he was never able to comfortably write anything without being continuously distracted.
"Yeah, Y/N?" He responded and continued to type. You had known Jughead for almost two years now, you were relatively new to Riverdale. But without a doubt you knew, he would never glance up from his computer when he had a spike of inspiration. You hardly ever tried to interrupt him when he was writing even though he told you it was fine, you still felt horrible when he lost the inspiration to the idea he was conspiring about.
"Did you want anything to eat? I was about to order some fries and I know you haven't eaten since four?" It was currently a quarter past eleven at night, both Jughead and yourself had been sat in the booth since the end of your strenuous activities from today. This wasn't unusual considering Pop's was practically your second home due to how much time the both of you spend here.
"Nah, I'm cool Y/N." He said sending you a quick smile before putting his head down and began writing again. You knew that was going to be his answer and yet every time your fries arrives he always sneaks his hand across the table and ends up eating over half the plate. This is why you order a large regardless of how hungry you are because you knew he was always going to be there to finish them. You didn't respond knowing there wasn't a need, but glanced up at the waitress to signal her in your direction. After, placing your order you leant back in the red vinyl booth seat and watched Jughead write.
This was your favourite activity on nights like this. Where it was the booth of you, sat in comfortable silence without having the constant nagging voices of your friends. You liked watching the young boy write, his facial expressions always conveyed what he were feeling, almost so much that you could guess what topic he was writing about. Whenever he wrote about Jason Blossom his eyebrows would form a furrow and his lips would go tight, when ever he was confused or stuck on an idea he would bit his lip and sometimes a little too much because he had continuously made his lip bleed, sometimes he would laugh a under his breathe and you could only deduct that he was writing about something Archie had done that day, considering the boy is an idiot. Sometimes when he was writing about Betty or Veronica his lips would quickly twitch into a smile before going back placid, because he would never let himself show such emotion out it public. It made you laugh sometimes, but whenever he crooked an eyebrow in your direction you shook him off.
To say the least, the boy was beautiful. You were glad that upon your first day in town you attempted to show an interest in him of all people. It was blatantly obvious to everyone that you had feelings for him, everyone but Jughead Jones. Right at the moment, Jughead had leant forward and leaned further into his laptop revealing to you his milky soft skin that lurked underneath his many layers of clothing. Your eyes lowered down his jaw line tracing the small moles around the base of his neck with your eyes. Watching as his collarbone made its way into light, you began to think about how skinny this boy truly was considering how much you saw him eat. But you had never known anything about his home life and you weren't about to ask either. Even though it thoroughly intrigued you, and Jughead was believed to be your best friend, there were lines that you weren't sure in which you were able to cross just yet.
Knocking you from your thoughts was a plate of fries placed in front of you, you smiled up at the waitress and thanked her as she walked away turning your attention back to Jughead, you smiled as he slide his hand across the table to a took a single fry from the plate. The small chuckle you let out was interrupted by a loud voice.
"Don't think I haven't been watching you Jones." You look up to see Reggie standing over the booth. He looks down at you before sliding into the booth beside you and flinging his arm behind your back. Jughead looks up from his laptop, his full attention now focused on Reggie. Jughead watched as Y/N rolled her eyes and slide closer to the wall out from under Reggie's arm.
"What do you want Reggie?" Jughead asked shutting the lid of his laptop and sliding it toward the wall. Reggie ignores Jughead's question and remains focused on you.
"Now Y/N, what's a pretty girl like you sitting with a loser like this?" You heard Jughead scoff, as you take in a deep breathe. "I've been here for hours now, just watching you guys and never had he made an attempt to speak to you." You watched him as he raised his eyebrows. "Why don't you come and sit with me Y/N? Someone who will actually pay attention to you?" He pauses throwing a glare at Jughead. "Someone who is actually worthy of your time."
With a sigh you glance at Jughead from the corner of your eye and catch him, look down into his lap quickly before reverting his gaze back to Reggie. "Reggie, just go away." You say, there's only so long a sane person is able to handle Reggie mantle's company within a week and this right here is pushing the limits.
"Reggie, can't you see Y/N doesn't want you here?"
"This doesn't included you, Jones. At least I don't use her for food and ignore her when she speaks. I actually want to spend time with her, unlike you."
"Reggie, what language are you speaking? Because it sounds like bullshit."
"All you want her for is just to add another pretty face to that stupid book of yours. And while I'm here I'm not going to let that happen."
"Oh, yeah? And what is a string bean like you, going to do to me?" Reggie paused and looked up at you. "What do you see in him Y/N?"
"More than I'll ever see in yo-" You start talking only to be interrupt by the devil incarnate himself.
"Why do you even like him, Y/N? You deserve so much better than this emo fag."
"I'd agree with you Reggie, but then we'd both be wrong. I think you should leave before you make me say something your going to regret hearing. Now if you don't mind," With a grunt, Reggie left the booth and stalked back to where he was sitting prior. You look up at Jughead, he was biting his lip which you knew wasn't a good sign.
"Hey Jug?" The boy glanced up at you. "Don't listen to him."
"Do you really like me Y/N?" He swallowed before shyly watching your from the corner of his eye. You let out a small laugh.
"Of course, I like you silly. You are you and I wouldn't change one single thing."
"Y/N, but you are so-" You stood up and walked around his side of the booth before he was able to finish, sliding beside him you take his hand into your own.
"Jughead, you are one of the best people I have ever met, don't selling yourself short for the likes of someone like Reggie. He isn't worth it. Everything he said was a lie Jug." You pause and watch his face contort into confusion, you quickly realise your mistake, mumbling a 'Oh' under your breathe you correct yourself "Except for the part where he said I like, that is most honest thing I've ever heard him say." You turn to face the boy, his hand still in yours. His cheeks flushed with a rose coating, as you reached over and kissed his cheek.
You watched him smile into his lap and reach across for his laptop. Opening the lid and reluctantly returning to his writing. You leant your head against his shoulder and watched as he reached across and grabbed a cold fry from the basket. You smiled and thought to yourself, that there isn't any other place you would rather be.
A/N I can honestly say I was going to write that Y/N punched Reggie but I felt like that was not necessary lmao, I'm sorry that this is bad lmao

BIrthday, Booze and Bumbling
Sure, it’s Friday – or is it? Who the hell knows. I can’t tell the difference, and worst of all I’m writing this (at last) on day one of our four day bank holiday weekend. Thank goodness my workmates told me, otherwise I’d have been working all day. So, with five days separating me from last week, what can I actually recall… I’m in luck, because I’ve started to keep a list. Genius plan, which I undermine as I fail to write stuff down. That feels a lot like our present state of lockdown – it all constantly slips away… I’m still feeling the massive contrast between the hysteria of 24 hour news and this just feeling like normal life. I’m also utterly thrilled to be spending so much time with my beautiful cats.
Still, we had my other half’s birthday, and I feel we made the most of it. Our usual birthday activities are something along the line’s of 1) get up very late, 2) take ages to eat breakfast and get dressed, 3) open presents while watching cartoons (this year we enjoyed Disney+’s Chip ’n’ Dale: Rescue Rangers, which feels like it’s suffered the passage of time better than Duck Tales), 4) go to the cinema, 5) eat out somewhere, and 6) crash out on the sofa. On that scale we at least managed all but 4 and 5. So that’s not bad. The whole pandemic and not being able to choose to go out only really hit home when we wanted to complete our usual rituals. Nemmind. I snagged a piece of rather nice original Peter Firmin Bagpuss art, so part 3 of the day was pretty good. We celebrated with a few more folks in a large and very chaotic Zoom party. Weird, for sure, but nice to see peeps.
Obviously all independent businesses are struggling right now, and worse, some people are finding it hard to acquire enough booze to get through the melding days. No fear of that here in Beeston! I was over the moon to see our local independent brewer Totally Brewed (who have homes at the lovely micropub Totally Tapped in Beeston and The Overdraught at the top of Canning Circus) arranged for Friday home deliveries!

Doing: podcasting (live-ish) with We Are What We Overcome
On Sunday we the We Are What We Overcome podcast gang got together to attempt a Zoom to Facebook Live thingamajig. It worked so well in practice, but totally failed to work as expected. Not to worry. We recorded it anyway, and popped the video up on Monday afternoon. We decided to have a little check-in, like we usually do at the start of our episodes, but for longer as this is a strange time, and we all have different feelings about it. I think it’s quite a nice chat – you can watch/listen to it below. Rather nicely, it’s all four us, including Neil who’s usually behind the sound recording desk (or whatever it is that he does to magically trap our speech). At some point we’ll pop the audio out on the podcast feed, but there are a few in the bank already to be rolled out on schedule first. Even better news, we’re gonna try the Facebook Live thang again this Sunday, and every fortnight for the near future, or at least as long as we’re in lockdown. Future ones will show up on our Facebook page here, and I’ll stick a link on the WAWWO page of this website too.
Watching: Altered Carbon season two
I really enjoyed Richard Morgan’s Altered Carbon and its sequels – splendid fast-paced noirpunk with loads of action and murder/spy stuff. The central premise that your identity is contained in a stack at the top of your spine and can be swapped between bodies (the so charming “sleeves”) is fantastic, and the results of your body no longer being a part of who you are is ingenious and spun out well in the books. It translated pretty well into season one of the Netflix show, albeit with a lot of gratuitous nudity as we found ourselves in a pretty traditional cyberpunk setting of rain and holograms of hookers everywhere. I enjoyed it, but until I saw the ‘last time on Altered Carbon‘ I could not have told you what happened.
I fucking love Anthony Mackie, he’s immensely charming, fun, and credible in action, drama and comedy (having re-watched Captain America: the Winter Soldier just this afternoon, he is confirmed in my mind as a splendid human). But there’s something wrong with season two – it’s just drifted into the quest for Takeshi Kovacs to find his long-lost love, and while that’s in the books, it doesn’t feel like the driving force of the story. The noir detective element is here, but it feels lost and forced. Added to that are the continued tribulations of his AI hotelier pal, Poe (yep, Edgar Allan), who is very appealing as he finds another AI who he clearly kind of fancies as his grasp on the world deteriorates, but it doesn’t matter. The AI subplot is completely irrelevant and its lack of importance kept punching me in the face. Alas, this season has lost me and I kept drifting away while watching. Maybe I’ll have a rewatch after this nonsense time is over, and perhaps I’ll focus better.

Reading: Cage of Souls by Adrian Tchaikovsky
I cannot help reading Adrian’s books – it’s a kind of addiction. This one had languished for a while on my Kindle TBR because I’d incorrectly associated the cover with fantasy, and I’ve been in a science fiction mood for a while. Reading definitely feels tougher than usual, and it takes something extra (or just really fast) to captivate my attention. Here we have far-future post-every-apocalypse with Shadrapur, the last human city on (presumably) Earth. Humanity stumbles on, pretending that the end is not very close, echoing the civilisations that have fallen along the way. I’m a sucker for post-apocalyptic stuff (not so much the usual zombies). This has much more of JG Ballard’s The Crystal World and a bit of Brian Aldiss Hothouse vibe, with the natural world running riot, overwhelming our vain attempts at order and showing every chance of becoming something else. Cage of Souls takes us through the life of one of these last men, Stefan Advani, and how it is that he ended up in a ghastly prison cast out in the middle of nature. This is a big fat book, and for a while it was slow going, though that’s rarely an issue with Tchaikovsky’s glowing prose and this most alluring world of the end-times, but as the depth of the world and its strange inhabitants unfolded I was happily engaged. The Count of Monte Cristo feel is strong, with our unjustly imprisoned academic turned accidental rebel, dealing with an appallingly dangerous prison that the guys in Oz could only hope for, with monsters seizing inmates through the bars of the lowest levels and an absolute monster in charge of the prison. The novel really opens up when we explore the misadventures that preceded Stefani’s arrival, and (spoiler), what happens afterwards. It’s a delight of a book, full of surprises, possible callbacks to novels I adore, an unreliable narrator and a weird, weird world to engulf them.
Reading: The Girl Beneath the Sea by Andrew Mayne
After a big book I needed a short book, and this was waiting for me on my Kindle. A short, quick detective thriller with a slightly different setup (though with hefty shades of Clive Cussler’s Dirk Pitt stories), of Sloan McPherson – 50% diver with a family dedicated to shady treasure hunting, and 50% auxiliary cop in the Florida quays. There’s nothing exceptional about the plotting – Sloan gets a body dumped into the canal while she’s diving, and quickly finds herself implicated in a conspiracy linked to her dodgy criminal uncle and the aforementioned shady family. It had everything I needed, from snappy dialogue and snarky characters to gunfights and underwater shenanigans. Very satisfying, and I may well dig up the next in the Underwater Investigations series.
Watching: Virtual Improv Comedy Workshops with MissImp
Time blurs, and I discover that the workshop I wrote about last week was actually from the week before! Who’d’a’ thunk it. But that’s cool, it means there are two workshops for you to catch up on. First up the splendid Ki Shah and Russ Payne on Physicality, Objects & Movement. This is a genuinely charming two-hander and I think you’ll be smiling all the way through. Second up is LA improviser Jay Sukow on Solo Improv. I confess I’ve not yet watched this one, which puts me at least two behind as well… Both vids are below – enjoy!

Next Week
Sabrina the Teenage Witch season 3, The Hanging Tree by Ben Aaronovitch, LEGO Ideas Dinosaurs and probably The Collapsing Empire by John Scalzi (if I finish it this weekend). I should do an MCU quick review thing at some point too.

Acting in Trump’s Gilead (An Actors Blog)
Advertisers and marketing professionals spend their days (and probably a lot of sleepless nights) wondering about and/creating buzz around the next big thing… but being able to identify a trend is not just their job, it’s also the job of the actor. Knowing that wider ties, and longer hems, often coincide with automakers manufacturing cars in shades of pink and turquoise is an example of identifying a trend. How do I know that? When you live long enough you start to see everything come back around. Now, to me a trend - is different than a fad. A trend will stick around for a while and then reappear in an updated form at least every twenty years or so. But a fad is something that is with us for a year or six months and then disappears just as quickly as it came - probably never to be heard from again. For example, it’s been a while since my kids mentioned Fidget Spinners. I’m sure those useless pieces of Chinese rubberized plastic will sit idle at the bottom of my kids desk drawer until i secretly toss them out. That obsession has given way to their current addiction; slime. I’m hoping slime is just a fad too - or a phase they grow out of at least, kind of like my mom’s approach to me being in to dudes. Sorry Mom, guess that was more of a trend that was here to stay.
As an actor what do you do when you’re not part of a trend? By that, I mean your “type”…your race, your age, your sexual orientation, even your religion. It might sound callous to break us all down into categories, but that’s what our brains do every single day as we file away and classify every new piece of information we encounter.
It’s no surprise that 2018 was definitely the year of the Asian actor, and it’s about time. An Asian actor hasn’t gotten an Oscar since Haing S. Ngor won in 1984 for “The Killing Fields.” You might say this all started with the popularity of Crazy Rich Asians and I would agree, but what led to that? With my 20/20 hindsight I would say that George Takei and his autobiographical play about his childhood experience being held in a post World War II Japanese internment camp shined a light on the Asian immigrant experience. It also doesn’t hurt that he has a hugely popular #Twitter feed dominated by daily anti-Trump tweets.
Another 70-ish celebrity with daily anti-Trump tweets is Cher who happens to be having the best year ever. She’s doing movies again, has an amazing new album of ABBA covers, a broadway show about her life, and is about to embark on a huge European tour. Is Trump the recipe to new found relevance - or is ageism finally dead in Hollywood?
On Sunday I kept seeing Carol Burnett in my news feed. She was definitely trending. I thought OMG did she die or something?! I was Immediately relieved to figure out that she was just being honored at The Golden Globes and not actually dead. So if Carol Burnett is in the news again what does this mean? If I were her manager what would be my game plan?? …what’s next? Maybe nothing. She’s got like a gazillion Emmys - she doesn’t have to do a single thing, but that’s not usually how successful people think. What this tells me is that there’s about to be a lot more roles for older actresses in #Hollywood. Perhaps at first for the A-listers but hopefully that trend can trickle down to the commoners like us too.
A few years ago my kids went in for a sitcom pilot audition that was starring Ms. Burnett playing a famous retired actress who was renting out part of her home to make some extra income. Then they went in for another one with a similar premise with a cast lead by Candice Bergen. Not sure if either pilot was ever made… but then the reboot of Murphy Brown happened and I assume the Bergen pilot died a quick death in the script pile at ABC Television Network. Anyway these projects are out there, which is a good sign that ageism is a dying fad. How ironic is it too that Jessica Lange has had a career resurgence doing campy horror just like her character in "Feud" (Joan Crawford) had in real life.
I asked my kids’ agent why my son always got more auditions and more bookings than my daughter. She said writers just don’t write for little girls the way they write for little boys. This is the same argument that’s been made at the very top of the food chain by Oscar winners like Jennifer Lawrence. Often we roll our eyes when someone as successful as she makes this claim but the amount of opportunities for women is just not the same as for men - and it has been even worse if you’re past a certain age.
So for the non-famous, for the everyday working actor, what can we do when a trend is not working in our favor? Make lemonade? No - Make Movies! My friend, Sarah Megan Thomas, has done just that. Instead of complaining that only 32% of all speaking roles in films belong to female characters, she wrote, produced, and acted in three of her own female driven films; "Backwards," “Equity,” and her third film “Liberté”. In each project she has immersed herself into three very different worlds focusing on the roles women play in: Sports, on Wall Street, and in WWII. Not really since “A League of Their Own” have we seen a film explore the feminine experience during war. This subject is very close to my heart since both my grandmothers worked for the war effort - one making bullets and shells in a gunpowder factory, and the other on an air force base. Both my kids had roles in her film Equity, so we saw firsthand that not only is she creating jobs for actresses but her crews are also heavily comprised of women, with all three films having female directors.
As Heidi Klum says “You’re either in or you’re out,” and as the former titans of film and TV are being dethroned by sex scandals, women are rising up to take their rightful place. We saw the peak of the #MeToomovement at last years Golden Globes. This year we saw The Hollywood Foreign Press reaffirm the strength of journalists, and vow to not let governments make them the enemy of the people. We also saw an Asian actress not only host the show, but win the award for best dramatic TV actress. So… is an awards show the barometer for what’s trending - or just the moment when enough people come together on a network TV platform to oppose Trump’s Republic of Gilead?
Speaking of critically acclaimed television series, sometimes I have a hard time telling the difference between a plot point from “The Handmaid’s Tale” and an actual Tweeted proclamation from the baby king himself. Here’s a list. Can you tell the difference?
Women should be punished for abortion. Total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States Transgender people banned from military service The Press is declared “The true enemy of the people” Separating immigrant children from their parents at the border Calling for the firing of NFL players who kneel during the National Anthem
Sounds like we’re all gonna be hanging on that wall of his!
Like it or not, Trump is an equal opportunity offender and every group that he attempts to marginalize seems to rise up and have their place in the sun. He discriminates… then whoever the oppressed group is…African Americans, Muslims, Women, Gays, Native Americans…that group is suddenly trending. We are lucky enough to live in a time when we are celebrated for our differences and the entertainment industry is finally responding. As soon as Trump offends, then I start to notice that minority group in more roles in commercials, TV, and film. Writers are now creating more diversity in their characters and in the stories they tell. So if you are an actor in one of these minority groups - you’re probably trending. This trickles all the way down to child actors too. Now I notice a lot more diversity in the acting pool at castings than I did 5 years ago when we had a president that rarely used Twitter - and if he did it was never used to offend anyone.
So now what? You’re part of a growing trend. How do you take advantage of a trend in your type? Well, first leaving your apartment is a good step. In the brief window where #GayDads were everywhere we did just that. It was about 2011 and the fight for marriage equality was in the news every day. As courts ruled and legislative branches voted in our favor state by state and eventually sea to shining sea, we made it our mission to attend every equality march, rally, and #Pride Parade in NYC and DC. We wrote letters to state senators, appeared on the local news and in the “failing” New York Times! We did print campaigns for Marriott and MetLife. Marriott even gave us our own float in the New York City Heritage of Pride Parade! I can’t begin to count the number of reality shows we were interviewed for. We actually filmed segments on two shows, one for Oprah and another for a Jerry Seinfeld comedy show on marriage, neither of which actually aired, but the point is we got “out” there (pun intended) and milked that trend for all it was worth. All you can do is create opportunities for yourself when you’re lucky enough to be part of the zeitgeist. Now if you’re gay and married, the only way to get exposure on social media is to take your shirt off and take a #BedSelfie with your husband. Aside from the occasional GymSelfie for my own motivational purposes - that is really not us, so hopefully sexy couple pics will die out soon. I can’t compete!
So if you’re not part of the “in” crowd my biggest piece of advice is to not start taking naked selfies with Ricky Martin’s baby, just BE YOURSELF!!! In college I spent a lot of time playing roles that I would never play in the real world, and I would compete with actors for those roles that I would never be sitting across from in a real casting office waiting room. When I first moved to New York, I wasted so much energy trying to be something I wasn’t. I look back at my old black and white headshots and I remember the photographer trying to make me pose like a soap opera hunk - which I wasn’t. Soaps and teen dramas were big business then. I was young but my hair was thinning, so I couldn’t be the hot teen and I was still too young to play the dad. I definitely wasn’t trending! I should’ve just shaved my head already and embraced roles like the comic book villain born out of a botched laboratory experiment. That would have been so much more fun! So as they taught us at @University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music - CCM… get out of your head and just beeeeeeeeeee……..(deep breath)
Sooner or later everything comes back around…. even you.
