Little Sister Curtis Headcanons

these were inspired by this request and co-created with my pal @a-libra-writes!!

Libra and I came up with the name “Sunshine” because 1) it’s adorable and 2) you can’t tell me that’s not a name that Mom and Papa Curtis wouldn’t have had written down on the baby name list. Her brothers usually call her by her first name, but Sunny also works just fine.

Only about a year gap between Sunny and Ponyboy which places her at around 13 if we’re going based off the book’s events (while ignoring certain plot elements that make me sad, thank you)

Sunny is a bit more like Darry after their parents die; she tries to keep the house clean and take over her mom’s responsibilities. Because if Darry is gonna earn the money, maybe she can help this way. Her brothers worry that she’s growing up too fast and try to get her to take it easy (pots meet kettle!!!). 

Darry tries to take her out to the movies when she gets stressed out even if he falls asleep 10 minutes in. She doesn’t really mind that he dozes off, she’s used to it. It's the thought that counts. 

Soda has her come to work with him sometimes and help out on the cars. “Learn something!” as if she doesn’t learn enough at school. Comes home dirtied and tired of Soda and Steve, complains a bit but she's smiling.

Tags along with Ponyboy to anywhere he wants. They usually go for walks and talk about school and the gang. 

If Johnny is the “pet brother” for the Gang, Sunny is the pet sister and has an interesting relationship with the rest of the boys.

Two Bit is viewed as a “decent” brother figure and he at least knows how to act around a younger sister. Probably the most likely out of the group (next to her actual brothers) to look after Sunny like his own kid sister. There’s no antics you can get up to that surprise him anymore than he’s already used to. 

Steve is a pest to her and gets in the way of spending time with Soda. They have a small rivalry but it’s less tense then Steve and Pony’s relationship for sure. Sunny doesn’t tag along nearly as much so it kinda evens things out. 

Dally and Sunny…..are what I’d describe as a Tom and Jerry dynamic but who's Tom and who's Jerry is always changing. Mutual chaos and the source of that chaos switches depending on the day. Dally is on Sunny’s shit list because he made a comment about her cooking once. Which, to be fair to Dallas, the potatoes in the soup WERE NOT cooked through so he was right, but she still holds a little grudge. It doesn’t matter if he was the only person to actually eat all of it. She scolds Dally for putting his feet on the coffee table, he calls her a brat, she aims the football for the back of his head, he pulls on her hair and purposefully calls her by the wrong name. Laughs like a fiend when she yells “Dallas Winston im gonna knock your head right off!". But she also knows that Dallas would be the first person to knock someone’s teeth out if she needed him to. 

Johnny is her pal and she enjoys his company the most of the Gang. He’s a good escape from the rowdy bunch and he doesn’t cause nearly as much damage in the house as the rest, he helps with the dishes and he laughs at her jokes. She likes him and he likes her and they’ve got each other’s backs.

The Brothers are worried about raising a sister. I mean they know fundamentally that she needs what they do and that for the last 13 years they’ve been doing a good job of looking out for her, but all 3 of them are concerned that they’re not enough for Sunshine. Not only did she lose her parents, she lost her Mom and she doesn’t have anyone who can fill that spot. Mrs. Matthews helps when she can and she’s a lifesaver to Darry when he has questions, but he can’t shake the feeling that Sunshine was robbed of better and stuck with them. 

Darry goes a bit easier on Sunshine than he does with Ponyboy. Part of that is because Sunshine and him are more alike than the other two siblings, so they understand each other better. The other part is that Darry thinks Sunshine is already taking on too much responsibility by trying to replace their mom. 

Darry taught her how to fight when she was like 9 and she’s gotten into good scraps with the Gang, but Darry and the rest are adamant that she stay out of fights because she’s too little. Sunshine is all too ready to toss out that she’s only a year younger than Ponyboy! To which the rest of the boys say, “He’s a kid, you’re a baby”. This in fact does not stop her from fighting when she needs to but she does try her best to stay out of trouble for Darry, especially after their parent’s deaths. 

She loved so much. Darry doesn’t say it nearly as much as he knows he should (and that applies to all his siblings) but he goes out of his way to make sure Sunshine has something special just for herself once in a while. Soda routinely suggests getting her a haircut when he notices her messing with it or hears her one off comment about not feeling pretty or looking nice. Ponyboy tries his best to help her out around the house or with her homework. She knows they love her and she loves them.

Darry was definitely shocked to find out that an old friend of yours has come by to pay a visit. He was cool with it....at first.

Your friend has always been a very flirtatious human being. It was just how they were; you always got a good chuckle out of it. You always assumed they were just joking around, just messing with you.

It has never pasted your mind that they might possibly have feelings for you. You have been friends for the longest time. Pals' buddies, roomies, Friend zone, not friends with benefits, not weekend lovers, not a hookup every now and then, and especially not a couple.

Darry how ever saw right through your friends' flirty ways; it was just a way to get a little action with you.

You refused to believe at first that your childhood friend has the feels for you. You thought to yourself: 'Thats impossible, me and them...never.... never in a million years.'

Once Darry found this out...he got very protective, you were his. Only his.

You bumped into to your good friend at a party, what a shocker. Your friend always enjoyed a good party. They began to dance with you and you both were laughing. It wasn't until they made a move that it clicked in your brain, but Darry was a step ahead of you.

The man snatched you up and began kiss the heck out of you.

This shocked you but you didn't care. He was yours as much as you were his.

Your friend got the memo and just treated as you as a friend.

SODAPOP CURTIS

The boy was a bit oblivious at first. He saw you and your old friend dancing and partying together. No sweat, just friends. At least that's what you and Soda thought. Sweet little things.

Sodapop starting to notice your friend making moves on you, you were oblivious to it as this was something your friend always did in the past but back then you didnt have a boyfriend. Sodapop noticed.

At first Soda thought that you were just letting your friend hit on you but then he remembers that you have talked about this certain friend in the past. You always joked about how flirty they were, but you always said it was nothing, and you never lie. So, then it clicked that you had no idea that this friend of yours had feelings for you.

He came in and pulled you away and said that he thinks your friend has feelings for you, at first you just thought that Sodapop was being jealous, but Sodapop doesn't really get jealous over such little things, he will just pull you away and tell you how he feels. As he was now.

You confronted your friend and they said how they felt. You replied saying that you had a boyfriend and we're happy with how things were. Your friend understood and backed off thankful that you confronted them before their feelings got any deeper than they already were.

Sodapop honestly doesn't strike me as a jealous type, I feel like he would just say how he feels but if its significant and wrong he will get jealous and step in and say something.

I could see Sodapop also getting really pouty and whiny. And just ignoring you the rest of the night.

PONYBOY CURTIS

Ponyboy has always struck me as someone who isn’t afraid of a little confrontation, so if he thinks that old friend of yours is being a little to flirty with his girl, he is gonna say something.

He might not go all out like Darry or Dallas but he will make sure that it’s clear that you are taken…by him.

He probably won’t get into a fight over it but if the message isn’t received he will do something.

You were oblivious to the fact that your old friend has feelings for you, you were just so shocked to see them.

When Ponyboy first said something, you stood up for your friend and said it was just there personality. Ponyboy took that as ‘it’s fine if someone else is flirting with me, deal with it’ so that annoyed him a bit. You began to realize that your friend really was flirting with and you said something. But your friend didn’t seem to take it in so that’s when Ponyboy stepped in. Like I said the dude isn’t afraid of a bit of confrontation.

I feel like Ponyboy’s reaction would be a happy-medium of Darry and Sodapop. Sweet but not to sweet.

If I had to chose any of the reactions out of here that are the most calm and mature it’s probably Ponyboy’s.

He knows how to keep his cool in these situations because your you…absolutely stunning so it happens more than you and him would like.

DALLAS WINSTON

• My favorite. Dally. I think we all know that this man if he sees you even remotely close to someone that isn’t him, one of the boys, or people y'all know he will flip out. (So basically anyone that you don’t know, poor strangers lmao) • Your his doll and he can’t handle the lose of another person that he loves.

• Johnny Johnny Johnny, tsk tsk tsk. Sweet innocent Johnny. • When y’all ran into your friend you were so happy to see an old friend. Johnny didn’t think much of it and went to talk to Dally (let’s pretend Dallas is here but not here)

•Johnny doesn’t notice your old friend hitting on you until your friend actually makes a move. Johnny first emotion is sadness. But he knows that you would never do this to him so he waits to let it play out and see if he actually needs to do anything. As said before this dude…he don’t like confrontation. •You don’t realize what your friend is doing until they hit on you again. Before you say anything Johnny walks over and asks if he can talk to you while giving your old friend a glare. I know very UnJohnny but I mean, do we hate it? No. •You guys get into a sorta heated conversation about it but then the air gets cleared. You and Johnny walk over and tell your friend that y’all are dating and Johnny (watch out) says that he would not like to see them with there s/o again. BOOM. Mic dropped.

•You get very very flustered. As Johnny hasn’t really done this before. Johnny was probably nervous your friend was gonna beat him up after he said that but your friend took the memo and backed off. •I made Johnny jealous to this because I know that’s what you guys want to see. You’re welcome :)

TWO-BIT

•The guy is probably dancing with y’all…Two-Bit is definitely drunk…

•I am torn between either him getting jealous and then getting into a heated argument with your old friend or him not noticing because he is so dang drunk….

•First off Two-Bit, so your friend wanted to dance with JUST you but nah Two-Bit had to join in on the “fun”. • So Steve…we love Steve. •Steve can get very jelly, yes we are using the term jelly and why…because it’s Steve Randle…that’s why :)

• You we’re next to Steve one second and the next your dancing with some random person. •This doesn’t really give Steve the best impression of your old friend like your his not your old friends, ugh whatever…im just kidding.

•Steve walks over and takes you away from your old friend and has you dance with him instead but I swear the poor boy cannot dance he has two left feet and you cannot change my mind

•Your laughing at Steve’s attempts to dance and he is smiling because he loves the way your face looks when your laughing or smiling. The light shines on your most prominent facial features and you smile is as bright as a million suns. •Later your old friend takes you away from Steve AGAIN to dance. And Steve is like “man what the hell are you doing”

•Before Steve can take back what is rightfully his (sounds so wrong but so funny) your friend decides to make a move, Steve walks up to him and punches him right in the face and then wraps his arm around your waist and steers y’all out the door.

TIM SHEPARD

You and Tim attend party’s TOGETHER quite a bit, sometimes Curly will tag along but he rarely does because he doesn’t wanna be a third wheel to you and Tim’s “lovey-dovey shit” as he calls it.

When you run into an old friend Tim is already jealous, like why are you making such a big deal of running into them, we’re they that important in your life or were y’all once something more than friends, Tim has many suspicions and he isn’t letting go of ANY of them.

When your old friend asks you to dance oh boy was Tim annoyed but didn’t show it because you were so happy to see them, he doesn’t wanna upset you.

But when they start hitting on you….Tim DRAWS the line. Not literally but that would be hilarious.

He instantly gets up in your friends face and throws insults at them that make you flinch. Tim isn’t letting this slide by.

After mentally abusing your old friend….we don’t talk about it. You scolded him for being so aggressive. But then you let your friend know that you have no interest in turning your platonic relationship into a romantic one. That you were very happy with your romance life.

CURLY SHEPHERD

• As we know…Curly is very clingy and can get jealous quite quickly. The boy would get jealous if you had a crush on a character in a movie….it’s Curly. • Curly is extremely big on PDA, so it’s crystal clear that you guys are in a romantic relationship with one another. When you run into an old friend you rush and give them a hug which means leaving Curly. Curly gets offended right off the bat, he probably mentally gasped. • Curly is very sad that he doesn’t have you right next to him at every waking moment. So when you start dancing with your old friend that makes him even pouter. • When your friend makes it a move may it be whispering in your ear flirtatiously or touching your arm slowly and softly. Curly jumps into hyper jealous mode within milliseconds. He walks over there and beginning to kiss you passionately and puts his hands in your back pockets. Your boy is all over you and your friend is standing there frozen, completely confused. • Your friend mostly leaves the scene and I mean the scene. Curly probably kissed you for as long as humanly possible. After you ask why he did that he would probably say because it burns calories :) (which is actually true)

SO... some years back a pal and i were cooking up a concept for a paradise campaign (for those who don't know, cat roleplay group run more like a DnD session, where cats have unique soul colors and powers to discover!) that had multiple NPCs in the form of different gods! elemental gods, planetary gods, but Then.

at one point during a bus trip in college i was listening to pork soda and i Actually Listened to the lyrics and iwas like oh fuck. you could make OCs out of this. and i held onto that thought until this production so then BOOM free place to puttem in.

they are the gods of past and future! i never named them or the group they were being developed for, but essentially this animation was supposed to reveal their backstory; two childhood friends who were chased off of a cliff by one of the gods. both survived the fall with major injury, but one ran away and one was left behind with complete amnesia. guy who hides from his past (future god) and guy who can only live for the future (past god).

years later, they would reunite, and after the past guy pretends not to know the other guy for a Long Time out of guilt, future guy finally figures it out. just in time for them to be chased off of the cliff again by the same angry god yayy!! they do die this time, but the god of the stars revives them as gods for plot reasons :]

1. What is the character’s go-to drink order? (this one gets into how do they like to be publicly perceived, because there is always some level of theatricality to ordering drinks at a bar/resturant)

R: context, baybe! Am i at a merc bar? Timbiqui Dark. I hate the stuff to be honest, but one has to keep up appearances.

Drinking on someone else's dime? Call me old fashioned, but i do enjoy an Old Fashioned. I like'em fixed with maraschino, and give the glass a spritz of absinthe before you pour. Fun fact: a surprising number of bartenders dont know that maraschino is a liqueur, and put a bouquet of fuckin cherries in your drink. Tha dinguses.

At home? I'll keep it simple, usually some combo of soda + spirits. Im particuarly fond of sasparilla and Yukon Jack.

A. I enjoy my drinks hot, not cold. Coffee with tequilla, hot coco with tequilla, tea with tequilla... you get the picture.

5. What was the last time they cried, and under what circumstances? (Good way to get some *emotional* backstory in.) 

R: my pride wants me to say it was at my mamma's teat, but... nah, lets drop the kayfabe for a sec and be real here. I cry, a whole fuckin' lot more than i admit, and nowhere near as much as i should. We joke and pal around and measure our dicks at each other, but in the end? We kill people. We visit incredible violence on our fellow human beings, and that should take a toll. And if it ever stops taking a toll? Its time to retire.

That doesn't exactly answer the question, so... last time i cried was a few nights ago. @is-the-battlemech-cool-or-not was gettin' me up to speed on the hundred years of history i missed out on, and i managed to hold it all together till i got back to my bunk. And then i broke down sobbing. Part of that was just, pent up stress from the goddamn meatgrinder of the Clan invasion. I lost almost everything- the war, half our company, nearly everyone we knew outside of that shitty ass Invader that misjumped us here.

But hell, y'know what? Ive still got that other half of my company. I still have Agata and Joana, i still got most of Fursona's Fusiliers around. Hell, i'm even reignitin' something with Remus... look, all those good things, that ive still got? Cried for that, too. It aint all gotta be tears of sorrow, you can cry for the good things too.

A: August 20th, 3028. Got pepper sprayed at Melissa and Hanse's wedding.

R: whoo boy. Just cleared out ol' Ronnie's quarters on the Pony. Its not got much decoration yet, just the barebones cot and whatnot. Lots of stab marks in the walls and furniture from when i get bored...Kept his desk though- solid oak, from Samantha. And uhh... maybe a couple of pinups of Kamea Arano... and Candace Liao... and Hanse Davion... and-

A: Like Rowan, I've just moved quarters- her old room in fact, since I'm the XO now. I have my rock collection up on some shelves I put in- I like to get one rock from each celestial body I visit, unique if possible. Theres also stab marks all over the place that I'm filling in, thanks for that by the way Rowan.

10. What objects do they always carry around with them? (What do they need for their normal, day-to-day routine? What does ‘normal’ even look like for them.) 

R: Pistol, hormones, sunglasses. In that order.

A: I no longer have my katana from my time in the DCMS, but I do still have the wakizashi that paired with it. I still wear it, for luck.

Bonus: What’s the thing they’re into that they’re most embarrassed/conflicted about? (Hobbies, interests, kinks, etc. Gets into self-image vs how they want to be perceived vs what compels them anyway, plus backstory.)

R: Conflicted, specifically. The tough-as-nails merc persona is... its hard to keep up sometimes. I want to be vulnerable around those I love, but i have trouble turning the macho down. Its paid in dividends, over the years, in bonus c-bills made and fights avoided, but it's also taken its toll on me. And... i didnt let myself feel what i wanted to feel around someone who i now realized i loved- and still love- very much.

A: Sometimes, on my worst nights, I- I still think about my time in the DCMS. And its like I'm still there, never left, and couldnt leave if I wanted. And I dont feel scared or trapped by my superiors or my culture, or horrified by the things I'd done for the Combine. I dont feel anything but mild pride and nostalgia. I don't like those being the things I feel about that time.

1: fic with the most hits: Little Drops of Anguish. Never underestimate the power of joining a fandom that's about 1000 times bigger than almost any fandom you were in before lol. Tbh, is it the best thing I've written? No. I have some problems with it in hindsight. But I'm glad this resonated with so many people!!

2: fic with the second most kudos: Don't Leave Me, Even For an Hour. I think this only swapped places with my most popular Pinto fic within the last couple days, which is bittersweet to me. But I am really proud of this one!!

favorite place you’ve traveled? i fondly remember bits of pieces from some trips growing up, but i remember the most from when i went to the bahamas w my dad when i was in high school. it was the first big trip just the two of us and it was beautifullll. the water was so clear and we snorkled and saw cool creatures (even if the waves nearly took me out sdfhksd). we rode a scooter around the island and got pancakes at the diner and played so many games of chess. i got some braids in my hair by the locals bc i could not manage my hair in the humidity and i thought it made me so pretty. went to a bonfire and show thing and got a conch shell that we had displayed in our living room for awhile. it was special.

Chapter Text

Peso and Shellington awoke from their nice, long slumber. Shellington stretched his legs out and Peso was still snoozing, Shellington gently nudged him, Peso let out a grunt. 

They got dressed and went down to the kitchen “last night was crazy. Wasn’t it?” Tweak said, trying to start a conversation “oh yeah definitely-“ Peso responded, putting some strawberry jam on its kelp cake. 

“Yeah. I’m just glad Kwazii is okay-“Shellington agreed with a sigh of relief.  “Same here. That whole situation was somethin’” Tweak remarked, nibbling on her carrot. 

“Where is Kwazii anyway?” Shellington mumbled, sipping his hot cocoa that had a little to much whipped cream in it “it said it was gonna be goin’ somewhere with Paani I think?” Tweak recalled, her memory slightly fuzzy. 

Meanwhile Kwazii had woken up at eight thirty am. It  went for a swim around the marina, it was going to go get a bite to eat with Paani. 

Kwazii lurked below the surface underneath the dock, he felt an emotion he almost never felt fear. 

He could hear someone someone walking above him, “oh shit” Kwazii whispered to themself.

“Hello H2O!”, Kwazii let out a sigh of relief, it was just Paani. 

“Boo!” Kwazii mrrped as launched out of the water in typical mako shark fashion, Paani flinched 

“Kwazii! You scared me!” Paani frowned  “sorry matey!” Kwazii apologized, Paani handed Kwazii a towel “thanks… but I don’t need that… at least not now…” Kwazii said.

Please No Tail. 

Kwazii’s shark tail disappeared, they used their powers to dry themself off “alrighty, let’s go!” Kwazii guided, Paani taking his paw as they walked to the cafe together.

“So what are you gonna order?” Paani asked out of curiosity “pancakes.” Kwazii giggled, looking forward to some chocolate chip pancakes drenched in syrup and strawberries.

Pearl made herself some tea, Periwinkle was asleep in his room. She picked up her phone and dialed Bianca’s number. 

“So you know how I told you about my brother told me he was a fish?” Pearl recalled, sipping her tea dramatically afterwards.

“Yeah” Bianca replied “Well… he wasn’t kidding when he said he was fish… when I saw him he had a fish tail and everything. Oh and apparently his boyfriend Peso and his friend Kwazii are fish now to?” Pearl added.

“Shellington confessed to Peso?” Bianca gasped, not even questioning the fish thing. “Yeah. They’ve been together for bit. Sorry I didn’t tell you sooner- it’s just we don’t talk much” Pearl frowned “it’s fine I get it” Bianca assured. “Hopefully we can see each other more when I become a Octoagent” Bianca smiled “same” Pearl smiled back. 

“Oh and apparently Kwazii brunt some of Mako Island?” Pearl questioned “Mako Island?! You mean that place in Australia where paranormal things happen? I’ve seen so many documentaries about that place!” Bianca recalled “yeah well he says that Peso and Kwazii became mermaids there..” Pearl was cut off by Periwinkle running out of his room.

“Hey mom!” Periwinkle said, dragging his blanket on the floor “good morning!” Pearl smiled.

Pearl and Periwinkle went the beach. Periwinkle carried his shovel and pal, Shellington was laying on a beach towel with Peso, who was sleeping while basking in the sun “Uncle Shellington! Uncle Peso!” Periwinkle cheered, running up to Shellington and Peso, Shellington hugged the otter pup in his paws.

“Hi Peri!” Shellington smiled, scratching Periwinkle’s little tuft of hair, Periwinkle let out a giggle. Periwinkle reminded Shellington of when he was a wee little lad. 

“What are you doing?” Periwinkle asked “oh me and Peso are just chillin” Shellington answered, as he glanced over to the distance where Dashi was surfing and Tweak was admiring from afar.

Periwinkle and Pearl sat beside Shellington and Peso. Periwinkle looked up at Shellington starry eyed as Shellington infodumped on sea creatures. 

“Ahoy Mateys!” Kwazii greeted, Paani behind him “hi Kwazii!” Pearl and Shellington greeted back, Periwinkle waved shyly. 

“Where did you guys go?” Peso questioned “to a restaurant!” Paani smiled “oh yeah and I spent all the rest of the money in me bank account but we ball!” Kwazii giggled “WHAT-“ Paani gasped “you seriously did that?!” They added “mhm” Kwazii hummed, nodding his head, Paani proceeded to face palm “you didn’t have to do that!” He insisted. 

“No, I had to” Kwazii said “damn Kwaz…” Paani sighed “Anyway how about we go for a swim eh?” Kwazii suggested “yeah!” Pearl agreed, Shellington, Peso and Kwazii rushed to the waves, disappearing into them. 

Paani, Pearl and Periwinkle followed them. 

Peso and Shellington were dancing together, Peri watched “mom what are they doing?” Peri asked “oh they’re just dancing” Pearl answered with a smile on her face, Kwazii and Paani were surfing.

Surprisingly Dashi was able to teach Kwazii how to surf. Paani had taken off their jacket, it was getting a bit too hot for him.

It was about thirty minutes later, they got hungry and stopped for a picnic. Shellington placed the blanket on the sand, wrapped up in his towel. He looked like a pathetic ass cat that had been thrown in a bath tub.

Shellington ate his clam sandwich, Peso ate his kelp cakes, Kwazii shared grape soda with Paani and Pearl and Peri shared a cheese sandwich.
