okay i finally read pt. 4, and it was obviously deliciously amazing!! i think what i enjoyed the most is sometime that you do often in your stelena fics where you force elena to feel the full weight of her decision to choose damon. like i know that canonically, elena has always been jealous of the idea of stefan with other women, but i loved how in the fic it’s clear that the promises that they made to each other are still binding in her mind. and i LOVE how even stefan’s initial reaction to elena’s reaction is to feel guilt and there’s almost this delay between that still recognizing their soulmate connection that’s never going anywhere and realizing the facts of their situation. it’s such a tough place to be in, and it’s angsty in the best way. also, i always find damon’s willingness to keep up with this farce of a relationship almost impressively pathetic. i know that some folks say that you make them feel sympathetic towards damon but that’s not true for me lmaooo. it just makes him out to be the sad little man he truly is instead of covering him in plot armor. my thoughts are all over the place, but i found the blood sharing scene so mesmerizing??? like i could not stop visualizing the pure carnality of it and that recurring theme of possession between them—especially with him later explaining his fixation with her as an addiction to elena. like katherine and blood are two things that he enjoys so primally and wholly in the moment and feels a deep since of shame and loathing immediately after indulging in. both of these things are symbols of his vampirism (katherine as his creator, blood as his sustenance) and how he hated a fundamental part of himself for song. but like, elena is also the catalyst who gave him the strength and faith to reclaim these symbols. and i feel like it’s so apt that you ended the chapter off with elena having a sex dream about blood sharing with stefan that’s imbued with so much love, devotion, and adoration that explicitly contests the power hungry, violent, and resentful overtones of the steferine blood sharing scene in the beginning. beautifully done as always!! i’m currently in the process of moving so i apologize for how scatterbrained i am right lmao

yes! exactly, i've always been like, the show never made due on this sentiment

and in fics i'm like, i want to tease that concept out. i want to stay in the moments that the show gives us and actually explore the emotions of it. if elena is like this

whenever she thinks she's lost stefan

and there are still moments and feelings after the breakup like this:

with nowhere to go because she made a choice to be with a man who isn't even the kind of a man who can figure out that she isn't herself

who has to direct her to lean on her connection with her ex-boyfriend who she has a cosmic bond with

and such a rich history

and is cut off from the natural progression of that relationship for whatever reason

“The bottom line is that Elena as a human made a very, very, very clear choice that she would love Stefan always and forever,” she says. “But then her entire life turned upside down, and any feelings she originally had for Damon were still there, and of course magnified. There was always going to be a little bit of a confusion there for her — but not enough confusion for her to be over Stefan. It would take a lot to rip Elena away from loving Stefan. It would take years and seasons. We’d be eighty, if we followed the natural progression of that relationship.”

what is that actually going to look like? it's going to be fucking difficult.

and in previous fics, i've either had stefan single and his main conflict is how not to hurt damon,

or i've had him with caroline and her with damon in unfulfilling relationships and they both can't help but feed into their bond,

so this time i was like it would be interesting if stefan is actively engaged with someone else and elena has to watch it and sit with the feelings stefan felt watching her with damon

and then making it katherine, like I said in another response when I did the first part of the fic, it really has nothing to do with the damage she's caused to the friend group, that's kind of just a bonus, it's more to do with seeing the effect Katherine has on him.

Like, I got an ask a while ago about whether or not I thought Elena was insecure about her sexual prowess considering that Stefan was over a hundred years old and slept with women like Katherine and Rebekah and I was like I never thought that she'd be insecure sexually but with this fic, the jealousy and the heartbreak stems from how far gone he is because of this sex, the power that him and Katherine together have, which is very different from what the power of their sex so she just can't handle it especially considering that when they were together he constantly blew katherine off as nonimportant

i'm so glad you found it mesmerizing! i definitely wanted to portray a scene that was so loaded and so hot and so charged that they had to do something right then, right there and i wanted stefan to initiate it where instead of it being jealousy that erupts when she mentions continuing on with matt, it's more like laying a claim not because he's threatened by matt and he absolutely knows what she's doing but this idea of 'mine' without being in love is really interesting and then of course, katherine being katherine, is going to push him further by not simply doing a blood share but doing a blood share like that with no real privacy and getting off on the idea of him losing control over her, which stefan relishes and hates.

but like, elena is also the catalyst who gave him the strength and faith to reclaim these symbols. and i feel like it’s so apt that you ended the chapter off with elena having a sex dream about blood sharing with stefan that’s imbued with so much love, devotion, and adoration that explicitly contests the power hungry, violent, and resentful overtones of the steferine blood sharing scene in the beginning. beautifully done as always!!

and yeah, like i definitely didn't want to fall into the trappings of like gentle sex = love and rough or more carnal sex/blood-sharing = purely lust, i think i've given stelena some pretty carnal scenes, but it was definitely the idea of symbiosis and both of them just wanting to give pleasure to each other and just wanting so badly to be connected through something so fundamental to their lives vs as you say, resentment and being power hungry and the idea of conquering and possessing and making the other succumb like with steferine.

I’m not really in the mood to start watching something new even though I technically have a lot I want to lol, so on a whim because I feel like it I’ve started a TVD rewatch attempt let’s see if I follow through! (I’ve only seen the whole show (like 7.5 seasons I didn’t see all of s8) once but I’ve seen majority of s2-3 eps multiple times and a select handful of s1 4 and 5 eps a couple times each and most s6 eps twice since I did a rewatch of just that season in December (technically I did not finish it but that wasn’t about my follow through I just didn’t have hbomax access for a while and by the time I had it back was focused on other things again)

so anyway. notes I took rewatching the first couple episodes (my plan rn is to Not lb in the format I sometimes do because I think I’ll exhaust myself/my commitment, instead will try to either write some notes during or takeaways directly after watching the eps when I feel like it and share intermittently)

Pilot

-Elena Bonnie and Caroline are all so pretty here such pretty faces and pretty shiny hair all around

-really enjoy how cynical Elena is even as she’s trying to put on a brave “today I will smile and it will be believeable” face. especially her talking about people’s reactions to hers and Jeremy’s grief and the “the rest of the world has moved on” quote near the end I can (unfortunately) relate to a lot of this so much more than the first time I watched the show :(

-Caroline’s immediate interest in Stefan + “it’s not going to happen” I do lol knowing how this all plays out :)

-Bonnie’s ‘psychic’ ness so cute but also her predicting happiness… ironic not in a happy way. This being one of the episodes if not the episode where she’s happiest I think…

-Bonlena moments are very cute in the pilot

-running up the hill wasted on a boring moment in the pilot is so funny, but I do really like it ending with (in a sense) the first steferine moment

-so much bad and poorly aged dialogue. obviously. but then glimmers of really good dialogue out of nowhere

-I do sort of wish Damon’s crow powers had been a consistent thread. I don’t remember it being a thing after early s1? Would have been so funny

-Vicki was a standout to me rewatching this. Knowing what happens to her is so sad… Matt should have died instead of her and She should have been around for the whole show fr

-Jenna is an angel

-the dialogue is worse than I remembered overall but I’m going to say the visuals/effects are better than I remembered?

-also I actually rewatched the Pll pilot a couple days ago so was struck a bit by the similar structure of some things, they both open with the blonde girl who is killed/missing (only for TVD it’s a random girl we have no attachment to, for Pll it’s obviously Alison who is a Presence. and then it’s much later in the TVD pilot that we see Katherine who is the char with Alison haunting status for chars in s1), the focus on the liars but especially Aria/Elena’s attempts to move on from grief general quotes about moving on from the past, similar structuring to some of the Aria&Mike/Elena&Jeremy scenes. the funeral at the end of the Pll ep v Vicki being taken to the hospital at the end of TVD. There are others

-it also was very funny to me that they stress the “passion” of SE vs Matt and Elena in the pilot considering that is going to become a tag line for DE

The Night of the Comet

-Elena and Stefan waking up and both thinking ‘wow it’s so weird how I see color/am not as depressed as usual. and it’s all because I remembered what it’s like to be horny’ is hilarious sorry

-I am mad at that teacher I was mad on Elena’s behalf last episode now I’m mad on Jenna’s! Leave Jenna alone

-the way Damon put his hand on Elena’s back/shoulders in their first meeting to guide her + general manner towards her like makes me uncomfortable. Which I guess is the intention at this point

-Jenna looks so good I need her

-when Elena is telling Jenna about Stefan being on the rebound and her responding that “at least it’s another woman wait until you date a guy with mommy issues or cheating issues or amphetamine issues” find this hilarious because Stefan DOES in fact have mommy issues as we will learn, and the show treats his blood issues as metaphorical addiction issues. cheating issues no but his whole transference deal with Katherine-Elena is maybe not so different you could make the argument? like it’s not that but there’s emotional dishonesty in a way.

-also I just enjoy Elena and Jenna so much as a duo.

-I really like Bonnie’s outfit passing out Night of the Comet fliers with Elena

-Bonnie touching Stefan and getting bad vibes if such a mood

-there’s quite a bit of language iin these two episodes that’s aged badly but Caroline’s “druggies are the biggest attention whores” (paraphrased) line about Vicki particularly egregious

-Gravity playing in the SE kiss is so funny because I first watched this pre Community so now I have the Paradigms association. lol

-but also Stefan’s “it was epic” line my brain made an association to Leronica “I thought our story was epic” and SE could Never be what Logan x Veronica is smh so I was a little offended

*Also watched Friday Night Bites but actually watched most of that while working out and didn’t take notes. And I have reflections but, not that there isn’t plenty to be said about this episode but I’ll take a pass rn*

Ok so I love love the "I was just captured by the bad guys and very harshly uh demanded to sell you out, but I didnt, bc even though I might posture like you’re the scourge of the earth and would gladly see you dead, I in fact, do not want you dead and will therefore not be selling you out and will handle mild -emphasis on mild please do not hurt either of my babies too much- torture instead and oops! look at that, you just overheard this exact exchange where I stand my ground and refuse to betray you, and now you’ve gone feral over your loyalty kink and are spouting promises of never letting go of me, which honestly I cannot bring myself to be mad at."

And also if I had to give you a clear cut trope to follow, I absolutely LOVE the enemies-to tentative allies-to lovers trope, in which one party is just working really really hard to get to the lovers part, and the other is working really really hard not to get to the lovers part, but caves later on, bc really the fucker grows on you. [Featuring Klaus as the "high key besotted already pursuing Caroline"-person, and Caroline is the "I am very very annoyed w this wooing, but I am more annoyed this wooing is working"-person. And also, I like my Klaus E V I L, But really really really *soft* for Caroline.]

Also if by tropes you meant settings, Like AU's, literally anything works, I have a personal bias for Crime AU's when it comes to enemies to lovers, and Canon is the ultimate enemies to lovers AU, but honestly you can use which ever one you want, I am not entirely sure myself if I have a specific preference here, AH, Fantasy, Supernatural, Scifi, it's all good.

[I however am not extremely fond of Historical Settings]

Again you are not required to follow any of these tropes at all if you don't wish to, I just require you to have a lot of fun writing and love the beauty you write yourself first!

Ok I LOVE me some Kennett [kol + bonnie] but I also LOVEEE kolenzo [Kol and Enzo], I also am extremely just *heart eyes* at Bonenzo [Bonnie + enzo], but I absolutely DIE for Kennettzo [which is OT3 of Kol Bonnie and Enzo]

Kalijah is also a-ok w me, and I feel like I dont have any other side pairings I'd like die to see I guess. If you choose not to go with these side pairings its perfectly alright.

Caroline Friendships:

Ok this I can answer without rambling like an idiot, I love love love love :

Bonnie + Caroline [like i love this so much it physically hurts me, they both deserve so so so much better]

Kol + Caroline [I will literally touch a frog, and I have a phobia of frogs, to have one full conversation w these two idiots]

Enzo + Caroline [Honestly enzoline brotp makes me wanna sob happy tears bc they are so perfect together]

Katherine + Caroline + Rebekah [bad bitch meets head bitch meets super bitch, what could possibly go wrong]

NOTPS:

Kolvina, stebekah, delena, stelena, datherine, steferine, Haylijah, Marcel+Rebekah, Matt+Rebekah, Bamon, Kai+bonnie, beremy.

And I think that's about it? mostly I just hate elena stefan damon and hayley and I am not fond of them w anyone, I hate all canon Rebekah relationships, and I dont like seeing Bonnie with anyone other than enzo or kol.

Tropes:

I am totally not fond of the Kill Liz for plot reasons trope, like seriously killing Caroline's mom is not ok w me, but I am totes fine if she's like already dead as part of Caroline's backstory, just don't show me Liz dying in the story as a part of the plot.

Any form of sire-bond-y or like sire-bond adjacent or like any form of deal/bargain/agreement that gives Klaus even a tiniest bit of power over Caroline's free will and choices, is just not for me, like at all, no matter how well it's done, I can't stand it.

not fond of any form of prisoner/hostage tropes, like klaus kidnapping caroline or caroline kidnapping klaus and holding each other hostage and stuff like that.

Death as a plot point doesnt work for me? and really I'd prefer if there were no major character deaths at all.

Friends to lovers trope is not for me, childhood friends to lovers trope is definitely not for me.

I don't like any sort of redemption arc really, anything that starts with Klaus as a “bad” dude and ends with him being a relatively “good” dude is not for me.

Any form of infidelity, like ofc especially in between Klaus and Caroline is just [shudder] hard pass, but like I also hate it when Caroline or Klaus cheat on anybody at all.

Also all the tropes and like themes I'm not comfy w that I mentioned in my original Gift Request still stand.

KC Pairing Pet peeves

ok This I can answer easily bc I have like a FEW,

I hate a woobified Klaus so much, like so much, I hate all TO!Klaus characterizations but this one is the worst, absolutely not here for it, I am not here to feel sorry for this mf I want to feel really deliriously GIDDY at how evil he is and how whipped he is for Caroline, but like concentrating on Klaus's manpain is not something I really wanna read.

Caroline excusing Klaus's bullshit, or like being a push over-y “it's ok, I understand why you did it” person is not for me, bc she never was one to begin w, she never did rationalize or justify Klaus's behaviour, she always held him accountable and told him what a difficult son of a bitch he is every chance she got.

I don't like arcs where Caroline is Klaus's redemption? like Caroline bringing Klaus into the "light" or whatever I am not here for it, like at all, I like Klaus staying evil while being endlessly in love with Caroline, and Caroline being able to be w a man she knows is a selfish evil ruthless grade A asshole, but will literally also choke himself to death for Caroline, cuz the man is whipped as fuck.

I also absolutely am not a fan of arcs where like Caroline remains "pure" or whatever, like that's just not for me, I am totally fine, actually MORE than fine for ruthless Caroline who is willing to do deplorable shit to get to her goal and protect her people, like Caroline being extremely almost evilly pragmatic just gives me a boner, and pretty sure gives Klaus one too. Klaus "protecting" Caroline's so called innocence is uh off putting for me personally. And her remaining this pure white light princess of good and Klaus being attracted to the *good* in her is um, nope.

Smutty Preferences

Honestly I’m very easy when it comes to smut [and u totally dont have to write me any if you dont want to]

I do not like:

I swear you’re looking over my shoulder every time I open my Scrivener and stare at this prompt of a voyeur giving directions while two other people have sex because I’ve pencilled it in for Stefan/Katherine/Klaus, anon. (I’m hoping to write it this week!)

Short answer: yes to everything.

I tried to convey Klaus’ possessiveness of Katherine and Stefan and his possessive need to own control in you can't make homes out of human beings because I don’t think Klaus can help himself.

Klaus has always struck me as someone who can’t not have his hand on the steering wheel and his foot on the gas. He has to be in control. You want to drive him? Awesome, he’s going to tell you how and do it for you because he doesn’t trust anyone to get the job done. Klaus can’t fathom not being in control. Trust isn’t something that comes easily to him, and Klaus has learned that if you let people do what they want (like Kol), things happen that often threaten his livelihood (Mikael), so he’s learned from this equation not to trust a single soul.

So when it comes to his ripper and his first doppelgänger (I’m disregarding everything about that doppelgänger lore and Katherine is the doppelgänger who got away, who bested him, who destroyed him), to put it super eloquently: he’s possessive af.

He’d enjoy watching them while needing to actually step in and give directions—Stefan’s not pleasuring Katerina right because he, Klaus, knows better and Katerina’s not pleasuring Stefan right because he knows better. With the way that I see him (and approach writing him), he can’t sit there and watch. He needs to remind them that he’s here. Klaus is still a part of this, and your pleasure is coming from him, not your partner. He’s the one in power here. He is the one who’s giving you this; don’t forget him.

I also like to think that despite Klaus’ ego, insecurity of being abandoned that often shapes his need to be controlling and possessive, he’s threatened by the Stefan/Katherine connection as well. Because Katherine will always choose Stefan, and Stefan will never choose Klaus (in a world where I got to develop these relationships, he’d come to pick Katherine).

This is actually something I want to explore—a deeper, bigger picture at what I explored in you can’t make homes out of human beings (I was very unsure when I wrote that fic because it was different content to what I usually share, but it’s something I’m super proud of and I’m glad has maybe brought you into asking me this!) and explore what I wish season 3 was: Katherine, Klaus, and Stefan, and Klaus/Katherine/Stefan.

TVD 2x01 Review

1. How fitting to review 2x01 today with all of the Bonnie/Katherine discussion happening on my blog.

2. Also, this is totally unrelated but AMC has been marathoning Jurassic Park for like the past how many hours and I have it on mute right now while I do this review and can someone tell me why in the first Jurassic Park, the little blonde girl gets the flashlight and turns it on and attracts that dinosaur to the car? Like I never got it and it FRUSTRATES me. So am I missing something? OK back on point.

4. I like how when Stefan comes to the Gilbert house and runs up the stairs to examine Jeremy, he and Elena cling to each other briefly. Details, man.

She’s dead.” Likkle boy, your logic is ridiculous.I don’t know if it’s Steve’s acting or the writing is just being lazy with it but if the whole allure of vampirism for Jeremy is that he can shut off his emotions then I need to see him overwhelmed with emotions all the time, like he essentially needs to be an empath and not the supernatural kind but the kind of people who are highly sensitive to their own emotions and to the emotions of people around them and he just wants it to stop. OR the show has to emphasize that Jeremy is a, what, fifteen year old kid and his logic is of a fifteen year old kid.

6. Also I really love how agitated Stefan is but also very precise with Jeremy lile LISTEN TO ME, YOU WILL DIE IF YOU KEEP THIS UP, DO YOU HEAR ME? And he gives him a little smack like YO ARE YOU LISTENING THO? which isn’t the same thing as Damon threatening to make him unconscious and grabbing his arm since this was like PAY ATTENTION BECAUSE THIS IS IMPORTANT AND I DO NOT HAVE TIME FOR YOUR ANGSTY SHIT BECAUSE YOUR ANGSTY SHIT WILL KILL YOU. I find it very paternal. Especially since Stefan softens when Jeremy looks him in the eye and says he understands.

7. Damon figuring out that Katherine is back is SOOOO funny though because he is SO trash, like no honey, you weren’t kissing Elena, sorry.

8. I would’ve preferred if he slammed Katherine against the wall so hard that it cracked, they ARE vampires and Stefan is handy he couldve fixed it later. Details, man.

9. I like how Damon spent this time being all Katherine is omniscient, if she wants you dead there’s nothing you can do about it, we won’t figure out her plan oh but I can TOTALLY stake her.

10. Yes, Carol and Liz casually walk around the house talking about vampires and murder like there aren’t other people around. This is a mansion, there should be like 30 rooms you can go to to talk.

11. It’s cute how Stefan anticipates Elena’s needs, he threatens John because he knows she doesn’t want him in her life and she knows he threatened John to leave because she knows he can anticipate what she needs. Also their hug outside of the hospital is one of my favourites because she just needs to be comfortaed and hugging Stefan does that for her.

12. Ian needs to chill with the eyebrows for real.

13. Damon underestimated Grams and she was like boy please. Damon underestimates Bonnie and she’s like lol you tried. Why exactly is Damon so overly confident when he’s always proven wrong? DErs: It’s a defense mechanism to hide from his insecurity. Me: He needs a new one. Or get his shit together.

14. LOL the music surrounding Katherine makes me laugh because it’s so dramatic. Damon made his entrance killing like 5 people. Isobel had randoms walking in front of cars and forced a gay rodeo cowboy to have heterosexual sex. Katherine is just being trifling right now.

15. I always liked this Steferine scene in the Lockwood Mansion because Stefan is SO done, like he is just so over Katherine and her bullshit and he treats it like her bullshit instead of making it this OMG SHE’S DIABOLICAL and Nina and Paul play off each other really well so there’s also this tension but she is SO trifling and Stefan is just like omg I fucking HATE you

16. I also like that Katherine is the only one actually thirsty for Matt?

17. I also like the piano rendition of Breakeven.

18. “Why would you be surprised that I kissed you?” “That’s not a surprise, I’ surprised you thought I’d kiss you back” classic.

19. WHEN DOES JEREMY CUT HIS HAIR.

20. The alarm on his face as he drinks from the flask and Mason comes in is priceless though, one of the few actual teenage moments of TVD

21. Stefan legit has some pretty crazy exes though. Katherine stabs him because he said he hated her, Rebekah is Rebekah and Valerie made Caroline burn at his touch, like lmao, women fall DEEP for him man, Elena stormed into the cabin of a powerful old-ass witch? Lol.

22.Also find it super cute that Elena tends to his wound.

23. I like how Damon is like OOH LET’S FIGHT and Stefan is like I just got stabbed, I’m tired. Grow up, Damon.

24. Stefan’s speech to Damon about how he’s not going to let Katherine destroy the part of him finally willing to feel is mature and all but I need the show to stop acting like Damon didn’t feel before Elena because the problem has always been that Damon can’t control his fucking emotions and that leads to him killing people or hurting people. He spent 145 years loving one woman, clearly he felt. He slaughtered a house full of women in the 90s because Stefan said he kept failing and he was upset. He turned Vicki because he was sad. It’s Stefan who was willing to feel when he met Elena. Like they mixed up their own narrative. And it’s not like anyone can say that Damon developed a healthy love for Elena and that’s why it’s different than his obsession with Katherine because he didn’t! Same shit.

25. No idea why Katherine and Damon’s bickering suddenly reminds me of siblings, I think because I find them so petty with each other.

26. I really like Katherine’s bra though, I always like her lingerie, I’ll give her that.

26. I love the way Katherine is looking at Damon now like, yo I just came for some D and now you wanna talk about feelings?

27. “There is something going on between us and you know it” can we appreciate the fact that Elena actually looks alarmed, like not even like he’s hitting a nerve, she’s looking at him like WHAT are you talking about?

I remember the first time I watched this I was like oh Damon that sucks, both women have been like “It’s always Stefan” in the same night basically one after the other, that’s rough, you’re an ass though and then he killed Jeremy and I said SEE YOU’RE AN ASS THOUGH. Then I watched it again and like, Original Katherine said it was always Stefan so you go to the woman you’ve transplanted your obsession onto and try to force yourself on her and she says it’s always Stefan so you enact violence on her by killing her brother.Stay classy.

29. The whole exchange between Stefan and Elena about Damon’s motivations still piss me off, it doesn’t matter, he killed her brother because he was upset, like that dialogue should’ve been used to ask questions about Jeremy and Elena being like so how does it work again, what did Isobel say? Do you think he’s going to be OK? Why hasn’t he woke up already?

30. Still super cute that Stefan kisses Elena’s shoulder.

31. The first actual stake-raising thing Katherine has done. (Killing Caroline).
