Venti’s a Celebrity (GN)

1) You’re a fellow celebrity and do a lot of collabs with him

You both produce music professionally and work for the same album company. Your styles work well together so they have you do a lot of duets. Or sometimes you’ll play the music and he’ll sing, or vice versa.

Eventually the two of you collab with each other more than you make individual content. Individually content is still made, but your joint performances do incredibly well. So it’s only natural that the two of you would form a group together

In all reality, it’s not very different from what you were doing before. You just get to come up with a group name and generally spend more time together.

The two of you get closer and bond (you have all the inside jokes). It’s honestly a dream come true for you. You’ve always thought he was cute, but the more you get to know him, the more you grow to like him

Starting a romantic relationship with him is just a natural extension of your already existing relationship. When they catch you making out, your staff were more delighted than surprised to see that you’d finally acted on your mutual pining

You gaze in the mirror, admiring the work of your makeup artist as you wait for a stagehand to let you know when it’s time. Tonight’s performance is live, on-stage and you’re a little nervous. Would a kiss cheer you up?” You smile a little wider. “It would,” you admit. “But I think Lisa might just kill me if I mess up my makeup.”

2) You were his very first fan

He started out small on YouTube. You were always the same to like the video and leave a comment. And you would always share it with twenty of your closest friends (or really just anyone you could- internet strangers included)

He appreciated your support so much, always responding to your comments and sometimes giving you shoutouts in his videos. Everyone knows that the role of #1 fan is already taken

It took years for him to get big, and you were there for him the whole time. So when he finally did it, he sends you tickets to his first performance with an invitation to meet with him

You’re ecstatic to know that he’s finally getting the attention he deserves, and are thrilled to receive the ticket and invitation. Of course you accept! And if it took begging for a few days off and splurging on an airplane ticket there… well, he didn’t need to know that

When the two of you meet, you really hit it off and become friends. It helps that there’s so much history between the two of you, but you also find that you have some things in common

After a while of staying in contact as friends, he invites you to another event… as his date. While it was a bit of a shock at first, you were happy to attend and had a lovely time with him

You squeeze his hand lightly as the two of you walk back out to the limousine. He’s chatting about how great it was to see so many of his friends and introduce you to them. You are honestly only half listening, as you hum and agree in all the right places. Tonight has been a lot and you’re still processing what happened. He notices that you seem sort of distant once you’re both seated in the limousine and holds one of your hands with both of his.

“Did you enjoy tonight?” He asks. “Oh, yes,” you say kind of distantly as you snap back to focusing on him. “It was wonderful. My brain is just struggling to comprehend that I just met fifty of your closest celebrity friends.” He laughs. “Well, do you think you’d be up to doing it again? There’s another event in a couple weeks that I’d like to bring you too.” You smile warmly. “Sounds like a date!”

3) You randomly meet them in a regular situation and don’t recognize them

You’re sitting at a bar with your friends, sipping your drink and jamming out to the music playing. It’s by your favorite artist, The Bard, and is one of your favorite songs

Said music artist happens to be at that bar that night and notices you jamming out. So, just for fun, he decides to go sit by you

He asks if you really love the music so much, fully expecting you to recognize him on sight. You don’t recognize him and proceed to go on a rant about how awesome he is and how much you love his music.

He’s surprised, but pleasantly so, and the conversation eventually drifts to other topics. You have a great conversation and he really enjoyed spending time with you, so he gives you his number

You think it’s kind of odd, but he asks you to not give other people his number. Of course you agree, but it’s kind of a weird thing to ask. Why would you just randomly give out the number of some guy you met at a bar?

When he leaves your friends all pounce on you and ask about him. You’re really confused about why they’re interested until one of them mentions him actually being your favorite music artist. It takes a while for them to convince you that they’re not joking around

“Just call him!” Amber proposed. “Who better to convince you who he is than him!” You frown, Venti was just a nice, cute guy you met. There’s no way he could be a famous singer and songwriter. But you know they won’t leave you alone until you ask. “Alright,” you sigh, ignoring their cheers and high fives.

Pulling out your phone, you open a new text chain, type a new message and send it. ‘Are you The Bard? Sorry about the weird questions, my friends are making me ask.’ You wait a couple minutes with your friends on the edge of their seats. Ping! Your phone let you know you received a message. ‘Yep!’ The text reads. ‘I didn’t think it would take you this long to figure it out ;)’. Your friends swear, to this day, that your jaw dropped to the ground and your eyes were the size of dinner plates.

4) You somehow show up in many pictures of them, despite being a random bystander

He likes taking a bunch of pictures, including selfies, and putting them up on social media. It’s his way of connecting with his fans, and it works pretty well. A ton of people follow him and like his pictures

That day you happen to be at his performance and every. single. picture. somehow has you in it. You’re even in the backstage ones because you got a backstages tour. He doesn’t even notice until one of his fans points it out in a comment

His fans love you so much already and insist that he get a proper picture with you. They come up with wild theories and have the craziest ideas of why this is happening, when in reality it really is just coincidence (or is it fate?)

One moment you’re just hanging out in the food court waiting for your friends to get back with your food, the other you’re being tugged along by the star of the show himself? You’re really surprised when he asks for a picture with you. Why in the world would he want a picture of you?

But you agree and the picture is taken. The fans love it so much. So he and the crew invite you to a joint interview stream later. You’re pretty sure the sky is falling, pigs are flying, and that hell has frozen over, but you agree

The fans ship you already and can tell from your matching blushes in the picture that you think each other are cute. So they play wingman and get you together with their full support

“This question is from istananon in chat,” the person reading the questions says. “Venti, if you were to take them on a date, where would you go?” Venti blushes harder and laughs nervously. “Wow, you guys are really asking a lot of questions about us dating,” he notes. “Um, I guess I would take them to Angel’s Share and we could just talk and get to know each other more.”

“There’s a follow up question,” they remark, turning to look at you. “If Venti were to ask you on a date, would you accept?” You hide your face in your hands and whatever you say is muffled. “What was that?” Ven asks nervously. “We didn’t quite catch that.” You pull your face out for a second to respond and then hide

The End.

Wow, I still can’t quite believe it. I can’t wrap my head around the fact that “An Art of Balance”/ “AoB” / “that goddamn story that costs me my last nerve” or however I have called it over the last 6 months is really and truly over.

How far we’ve come together.

Who would have thought what this little idea I had in my head back in December and that wouldn’t let me sleep until I had written half of the first chapter down would turn into. When I started drafting the plot, it was intended to be a little, about 18 chapters worth of story to get my dormant writing skills back into swing before starting on a more complex work I wanted to do. I hadn’t written a single word of prose in almost 15 years at that point.

Now, half a year, about 110k words and a lot of incredibly great friends later, look what this story has turned into.

Thank you to every single one of you who took the time out of their day to read about Lizzie, Orion, Skye, Charlie and all the others. You have no idea how much I appreciated every single like, kudos, reblog and comment. I love you all with all of my heart.

So, is that the end of Lizzie’s and Orion’s story? Well… it was supposed to. But I realised that we’re not quite there yet, I still have one or two (or many) things I need to tell you about.

I have several bonus chapters I still need to write, which is why the story isn’t marked as closed yet. My next immediate project featuring them will be a Band/Rockstar AU in collaboration with my dearest @the-al-chemist. Simultaneously, I’m working on the second instalment of “An Art of Balance” called “A Search for Balance” (or SfB as you may have seen in some tags) and a Warcraft AU.

And who knows, maybe one day I will actually be able to write that Charlie x MC fic as well. xD

How do you like Mad Men so far? I never know how to feel about it, I really had high hopes for Betty, but was disappointed at the overall lack of character development/focus on her in season 2 and onwards! But I was generally happy about Peggy and Joan. And Don is quite the intricate & complex character (at least in the first couple seasons), but the level of detail and accurate depiction of the time is really well done and so fun to watch! Hey there, anon! I just finished watching Season 4 Episode 7, which was an amazing episode, so it’s quite fitting that I’d get an ask like this.

Mad Men had been on my ‘To Watch’ list for years because it seemed to be considered a timeless classic along with shows like The Sopranos, The Wire and Breaking Bad. I finally got around to it because one of my mutuals (shoutout to @sulietsexual​) recently finished watching it and when I started seeing posts about it on my dash it gave me that push to finally commit to watching it.

So far I really like Mad Men. It’s very specific in its style, which means that it might not be everybody’s cup of tea. I didn’t know that much about it before I started watching and it is quite a lot different than I expected. It’s unlike a lot of other shows because it’s very character driven. There are character arcs and sub-plots related to the characters careers and personal lives, however, there’s no overarching plot across the seasons and no central story. It’s completely devoted to the evolution of the characters, but since I’m such a character orientated person, that works out fantastically for me. I believe the best thing any show can have is a cast of diverse, complex and well-written characters, and Mad Men certainly has that.

In addition to the character focus, the other main element of the show is definitley the decade that it’s set in, which is of course the 1960s. For me, the decade is a character within itself, because it’s such a rich period in American history. It’s not just about the aesthetics with the fashion, hairstyles, cars and media, it’s the fact that Mad Men manages to capture the spirit of the 1960s so well. And I think if the show was set in any other time-frame it wouldn’t work half as well. That specific period presents challenges for the characters (the female characters, in particular) and shapes everything that is happening in the world of advertising, and consequently what happens to and around the characters.

Surprisingly, I didn’t know the show was set in the 60s until I started watching, but it was a very pleasant surprise for me. As a history student, American history was one of my favourite areas of history, I even specialised in 1960s America. When I got to my final year and had to start planning my dissertation I knew almost immediately that I wanted to write it on 1960s America, I just didn’t know which part. As I said, it’s such a rich decade of history where so much happened: the Civil Rights Movement, MLK’s assassination, JFK’s assassination, Malcom X’s assassination, the Vietnam War, and the Cold War. There was such huge political, social and cultural change; there was a growth in social movements not just for African Americans but other racial minority groups such as Latin Americans and Chinese Americans, women and LGBTQ groups. The rise of rock ‘n roll came about (Elvis, The Beatles etc.) and with it a new kind of rebellion expressed through the art of music. The introduction of and access to the contraceptive pill gave women more sexual freedom, later followed by the “Summer of Love”. This was a decade where anything felt possible; where man landed on the moon and a president was assassinated in broad day light; where groups of people across America stood together, challenged the status quo, fought for what they believed in, dreamed big and strived for positive change for the millions of Americans that had been suppressed and voiceless for decades. It proved just how powerful unity can be and how citizens can truly have an impact and drive political and social change if they have the courage to stand up. The 1960s changed America in significant ways and was such a decisive period in its history. I could continue talking about this all day, because I bloody love it, but the point is that this period of history is a personal favourite of mine and so seeing the characters live through this time makes it particularly enjoyable for me.

As much as I love the character-centred approach of the show, at times I do think it suffers from the lack of plot and can feel very slow. Sometimes I don’t really have motivation to watch an episode for this reason. This becomes more noticeable when the characters I’m most invested in don’t get as much screen-time. Betty is a classic example of this. Just like you, I adore Betty’s character but I’ve been so diappointed with how she’s been cast aside. So far, she hasn’t featured in season 4 at all and based on what you’ve said, I’m guessing she probably won’t get much focus or development in seasons 5-7. There’s also the issue that character focus and development doesn’t always feel consistent. As the lead, Don obviously gets the most focus, but other characters like Pete, Roger, Joan, Peggy, Betty, Sally etc. sometimes get a few episodes where they get a lot of attention and development, then they disappear or are barely present for the following 5 episodes. Despite this, Mad Men, still does character development better than almost any other show and episodes like 4x07 completely blow it out of the water.

I’m only on season 4 and there’s still 3 more seasons to go, but Don is already one of the most of the complex and well-written characters from any show I’ve ever watched. There’s always something new to learn about him and he’s so multi-layered that I don’t even think I could begin to unpick his character. Peggy’s arc is inspiring and empowering. But all of the characters are well-written regardless of whether I like them on a personal level or not. However, my personal favourites at the moment are: Pete, Joan, Betty, Don and Roger. I’m intruiged to finish the series and see where these characters end up. I’ve seen a couple of spoilers and already know that I’m going to be upset with how Betty’s story ends, but hopefully the other characters I love they will have a satisfying and deserving ending to their arcs. 

I do think that there could be more diversity within the cast and dare I say it, better representation. Given the period it’s set in, it would be interesting for a POC to be a series regular. I understand that the world of the “Mad Men” is one of white men and white priveledge. So it makes sense that the only times we  see people of colour is when they’re in the background working as maids, housekeepers, janitors etc. And in those moments, they’re purposefully portrayed as being invisible to show how overlooked, excluded and inferior they are in the eyes of the characters. But in my heart of hearts, I’d still love to see even one person of colour have a genuine arc and place on the show. Sal counts as LGBTQ representation, but sadly, his time on the show was so short-lived. As I say, I know that these omissions are deliberate because the characters are all wealthy, priveleged white people who embody the very idea of the “American Dream”, but I definitley think there’s more room to have explored these themes. Race, in particular, was such a huge factor in the 1960s that it’s strange to me that it’s practically non-existent and that there are only brief mentions or scenes that give a nod to the racial context of the period (e.g. when Carla is listening to MLK’s ‘I Have a Dream’ speech on the radio).

Mad Men also knows how to write relationships well, which I suppose is an extension of the characters. It’s strange, because I don’t ship anybody on the show because every single relationship is toxic, unequal or volatile in some way, but every single relationship is completely authentic. There’s no epic romances that are pushed in our faces or over-dramatised and cliche; every relationship is human in nature. The characters cheat and they enter into casual sexual relationships and both parties know exactly what the relationship is - it’s not a “real” relationship, it’s not marriage and it’s not love - yet the couple build a companionship and understanding which adds layers to it. We see this with Roger and Joan, Pete and Peggy, and Duck and Peggy, to name a few. Even the “proper” couples like Don and Betty, Pete and Trudy, Roger and Jane, Joan and Greg, aren’t relationships that are exactly happy or built on love. I think what the show does so well is show that the big, epic, fairytale romances we see in film and television, that most of us aspire to have, don’t exist. All of these characters don’t have sex, get married or enter into relationships because they’re head over heels in love and give each other butterflies and steal each other’s breath away - it’s because they happen to be in each others’ lives and over time develop some sort of connection that evolves from being in the same space on a daily basis. It’s really that simple. 

Overall, I think the show does a fantastic job at showing the way in which humans connect and the various levels that those connections can develop and grow. Most shows show three levels of relationships: family, friendship and romance. Mad Man exceeds this massively and is one of the few shows that I feel actually realistically portrays the nature of human relationships. Not every person in our lives slots neatly into one of those boxes - family, friendship, romance. In fact, most people don’t. Human emotions, bonds and relationships are much more complex than that. And when I see relationships like Peggy and Pete or Don and Anna, those are the sort of relationships that are so complex and real, but that don’t fit into any of those boxes. 

Mad Men is certainly a good show; it’s well written and I’m enjoying it, but for me personally, it doesn’t stand out as being a show that’s going to go onto my favourites list. I still have 3 seasons to go, so that might change, but stylistically it’s not my ideal kind of show. I love the character-orientated approach, but I do think that the lack of plot lets it down. I like to have a real story to get invested in but Mad Men just doesn’t really have one. 

So, those are my thoughts on the show so far. With any luck, I’ll finish the show over the Christmas holidays (however, I’ve become slightly preoccupied by The Witcher, oops) and will have more to share with you.

Bang Chan:

Chan knew you had musical talent but to what extent he didn’t know. Classes usually weren’t that challenging, only once a ‘15% of your grade’ performance came up did you truly let go. You decided to partner up with Chan, your crush for years, it was hard not to fall for his cute dimple and perfect curls, not to mention his dedication to music. When you asked him to join you he was taken back. He didn’t expect such confidence, if anyone ever made a first move he always expected it to be him. You exchanged numbers and stopped by his dorms since you walked with him that evening. His room was spotless, a few stuffed toys (as expected) and lots of musical equipment. There became an awkward silence when his roommate Changbin walked in but he soon left. You picked up Chan’s guitar and randomly strummed some chords. He turned around, a huge smile on his face. Tonight was the best night ever! He could get used to this. You kept playing the same rhythm while he fiddled with his computer and soon you created a song. It was undeniably the best thing you’d ever heard, you knew this was the best you, when you were with Chan.

“I can’t wait to perform this live, if you get nervous you can hold my hand I guess. Oh wait you’ll be holding a guitar silly me.”

Woojin:

You were called up to the front of the class, a nervous wreck. You had an excellent voice, but what if others didn’t think so? When the teacher saw your shaking hands holding the lyric sheet even though you learnt the words off by heart, she invited up the person who’d coincidentally chosen to sing the same song as you. Although it wasn’t strictly allowed to do it together, your teacher was understanding of the anxieties you currently faced and decided to make things a tiny bit better. Woojin stood next to you, looking directly forward trying not initiate eye contact as you prepared yourselves which would have been the biggest distraction for him, the class all expecting something fantastic. Together, you did not disappoint. You hit all the high notes perfectly and yours and Woojin’s voices matched together well. As you sung, you often heard Woojin lower the volume of his voice, making yours shine brightly as the main one. Your voice was one that deserved to be shown off and Woojin made sure you knew that for the rest of the school year.

“Hey y/n, do you remember our little duet? The one where you sounded like an angel? Yeah that one”

Lee Know:

You were sick on the day that the teacher picked your partners for the annual poetry competition. It was against all the other schools in your area and you usually came within the top 5. This year your partner was Minho, the guy that just texted you “hey boo we’re writing words together be at my house by 6 else I’ll burn your gym clothes next week.” You knew he couldn’t burn your gym clothes but erm you were still scared because it’s Minho ofc. 5:50 you arrived at his door, poetry pre written since you knew Minho wouldn’t do much tonight. He opened the door wearing a clean white shirt and jeans. You looked down at your outfit, a white top with slightly too skinny for Minho to handle jeans, what a funny coincidence. He showed you inside and took you to Chan’s room. His idea was to write it like a rap, with flow and a rhythm so he could take part too since he found poetry boring. When you finished creating it, you decided that Minho was to rap it all and you would repeat words for emphasis, Minho claiming it was too strenuous or a pretty little mouth of yours to rap at such high speed.

“We all have are separate talents y/n, but we share the extremely good looking talent”

Changbin:

He never really took notice of you in music class before, not that you weren’t an amazing person or anything, just that music is what Changbin is most passionate in, it takes a lot to distract him. Partner work was something he dreaded since the class was compulsory meaning talent was really lacking until you came to his house one day. The teacher partnered you two up that day and you pair exchanged numbers. You had previous lyrics that you had worked on to show Changbin but you didn’t think they’d be good enough for him, what with him being the literal genius in the field. You showed up at his door with your phone and a few snacks for you two, wearing the same clothes as for school yet somehow you looked different to Changbin, a lot cuter, maybe it was because he had time to study your beautiful features.

You presented Changbin with your lyrics yet he didn’t notice, too busy fawning over your beauty. You moved the paper forward with more emphasis and he invited you in shaking his head to snap out of the trance. The lyrics were amazing, he was super impressed and didn’t you just know it.

“This is better than what I had planned! Y/n you’re a lyrical genius! You’re so perfect is there anything you can’t do?!”

Hyunjin:

You and Hyunjin had every single class together. When he wasn’t staring at you, you were staring at him. All the teachers noticed. The final straw as in music class, you were getting the bongo drums from the corner of the music room, eyes still fixed on Hyunjin when you tripped, landing in the instrument trolly. Hyunjin giggled but the teacher didn’t find it as funny. “Y/n today you aren’t working with your friends, please work with someone else as punishment, how about Hyunjin?” You were secretly so happy to be working with him and the feeling was mutual. Your vibes clicked instantly and the beat you created was so unique but also amazing! You were so in sync with each other and began to work together more. Shoutout to the music teacher for creating this magnificent duo.

“We work well together, maybe it’s a sign”

Han:

Casted as the two main roles (a couple who met at school and who grew up together) of your schools production, you and Jisung went over your lines every night for 2 months. November came round quickly and you were all gathered in the hall for an announcement. None really concerned you except the last “y/n, Jisung, we are introducing a duet at the end please learn the words to “stand by me” by the end of this week.” You met with Jisung after the meeting and discussed the new plans. Jisung couldn’t hide his excitement yet you weren’t so sure. Singing wasn’t what you wanted to do, you weren’t confident in your voice. You practiced the song with Jisung every night, forgetting the script even existed until you felt confident enough. Jisung became like your best friend and your singing tutor all in one. You were never apart and neither of you minded. Jisung was sad when the production was finally over so he knew what he had to do.

“I wish I could say everything about you was perfect y/n, but your relationship status isn’t... can I change that for you?”

Felix:

Everyone has a crush on felix, everyone, but he only had eyes for you. Your first class this year was music, it wasn’t something you took last year so you had to do it this year. You were the first to arrive, other students slowly filling up the room but the chair next to you remained empty. As the final few stragglers came in you spotted him, THE Felix Lee. He rushed to the seat next to you, still looking kinda cool and smooth, even while tripping on the table leg. The teacher announced that for the next year this will be your seating plan and you will work with you seat partners to which everyone was clearly envious of you. Felix has millions of ideas and they all sounded promising, you couldn’t wait for this year to begin.

“We should do it all at my house! My friends have all the recording stuff! Gosh this is so perfect”

Seungmin:

You’d fallen for his kindness. Admittedly he could be a snake at times but he’s a teenager and that’s fun, it spices him up a bit right? You took music class seriously, mainly because you knew no one in there to have fun with but also because you wanted to impress Seungmin. Your science class was pretty much the same, none of your friends were in that class either so when presentations came up there was no one to turn to. Seungmin walked over to your desk with a note. He handed it to you and ran off shortly after. Strange behaviour from someone as cute as Seungmin you thought. Your eyes drifted from his hair bouncing while he ran to the note. It read “we’ll be partners, I have an idea for us that will guarantee an A*.” Intrigued, you met Seungmin outside school at 4pm and he took you to the dorms. You were the perfect person to put this plan into action with. You and seungmin had great voices and both enjoyed science why not combine the two. After all it would be easier to remember stuff if it was in song form. That evening you finished the song and even watched a movie. You and seungmin shared some hobbies and gelled well, maybe it was because he studied your hobbies before asking you but you didn’t need to know that right?

Jyp was one intimidating man, that was for sure, but this time you felt comforted. Recently you had gotten closer to Jeongin, a fellow aspiring kid who was shit scared of jyp. You both worked together to produce a song with the help of his group members for some duet thing he wanted to see for a jype concert. The first time you practiced you were a little rusty but Jeongin took you out bowling and to a diner after so you’d forget about it. You gradually got better, your voices slotted together perfectly and soon the duet became untouchable. The concept of doing a duet with his crush at first was daunting but you were both so naturally comfortable around each other that his feelings didn’t get in the way. When you passed jyp’s scrutinisation, Jeongin took you out to the bowling alley and diner once again.
