i would fully 100% respect and understand if she doesn't want to fully tuck bc that shit is uncomfortable and also not good for you if you do it too often HOWEVER... i would like to see it just once. just once i would love to see a fully locked in tuck and a little pair of black undies under the dress and i would like to see her get absolutely bonkers slutty with it. imagine the possibilities if there was no chance of anything popping out. think about it. i certainly am

Hades accidentally Hurting gn! Reader with his fire while the two argue (ur decision if They are dating or not of if reader is another vk or a prince)
Hurt/Comfort but the one hurting and comforting them is the same person. Also, I finally figured out how I wanted this while listening to Chappell Roan, so please ignore (or enjoy I guess) the references to "Casual".
Play With Fire
Hades X Garden Fairy! Reader
Pronouns used: they/them/theirs
Summary: Their mother always told them not to play with fire, now they're unfortunate enough to learn the consequences.
Warnings: arguing, Hades burns the reader (by accident), swearing, mentions of burn blisters +them popping, suggestive comments with the intent of making someone mad, they're toxic in this little spill I won't lie to you, crying, Hades calls the reader Baby, Possessive Hades (I was feeling sillyyyyyy, idk)
Word Count: 1.7K
Tumblr media
    “If you play with fire, don’t get shocked when you get burned.” Their mother’s words ring clear in their head as their eyes land on their boyfriend. If they should even be calling him that, right now they weren’t entirely sure. I mean, really what did they think they were doing? Dating a villain, as if they could fit into his world - or he’d ever truly want them in it. As if the underworld was any place for a garden type, as if the God of it could actually love someone like them. The dark and stone was no place for a rose to grow, it seemed like they were realizing that now.  It was such a silly thought, to imagine that he felt the same way. By Persphone the fae was a downright fool. They could see that now, in his stoic face and relaxed posture. As if nothing mattered, as if they didn’t matter. Like they weren’t in the middle of a screaming match, one the fairy was sure that his friends could hear all the way back at the black lagoon. What a great way to help their image with the villainous group. Not that their boyfriend seemed to want his friends to like them. “So what are we? Are we casual, is that what this is? Because if we’re casual I know of a friend of yours who would love to keep me entertained,” their words are dripping venom, face contorted in a fiery anger that they hated to feel rolling off of them. He scoffs, pushing himself off the tree he was leaning on as his eyes roll, “Don’t act like that, you can’t threaten me into getting the response you want. I don’t bend to petty manipulation, I’m a god.”
   “Who said it was a threat? Obviously you don’t see me as someone you want in your world, I’ve clearly been wrongfully calling you my boyfriend. So maybe I should be taking other people’s offers. Lord knows that Hook’s been giving me a great offer since he and I met.” His eyes narrow, stepping closer to them, “I never said that, you’re twisting my words, (Y/n).” “You may as well have.” They weren’t fully sure how they ended up at this point, normally Hades was all over them, whispering things in their ear that could make a sailor blush. And they were just as needy, perched on his lap or tucked under his arm, laughing at him to avoid showing how his words really affected them.Tangled together, truly adoring and intertwined. But today seemed to spark something new, as if the black lagoon had possessed them to be their worst. Or maybe they already were their worst, and they just finally realized they brought out the other’s worst potential. (Y/n) couldn’t be quite sure themself.
   Uliana hadn’t meant to trigger this, surely she hadn’t. The question was easy enough, she just wanted to know if the fairy was considered one of them. If they could finally claim the fae as a villain, to stop saying they weren’t part of the crew when royals gossiped about it. (Y/n) had been running around with the VKs for months now, probably pulling as many pranks as Morgie, by all accounts they had made their way into the circle. They had the trust of Maleficent, the adoration of Morgie. Hook had lightened up on his flirting, now barely teasing them in a clearly playful way. Nothing but friendly adoration dotting the once sinful lines. And Uliana herself had treated them like one of hers, even inviting them to sleepovers and offering to do their hair for them. So it only felt wrong when Hades firmly told Uliana that (Y/n) was in no way one of them. That they weren’t going to be one of them. The god making it clear that he didn’t want them to be considered part of their friend group. And to the fairy, it was a sudden act of betrayal. They felt like part of the circle, his friends treated them like they were part of the group. And Hades didn’t want that? What, so they would be easier to leave? Less strings to cut when he got bored of them? Perhaps they were wrong to think of themself as someone the god couldn’t lose. Flowers were probably expendable to a god made of flames.
    “I said I didn’t want people seeing you as one of us. That doesn’t mean you get to go hop into bed with Hook,” his hair is aflame now, the fairy-or perhaps the thought of the pirate on his partner- finally getting to him. At least now they were both mad, it made it easier to fight if they were both treating it like one. “Why not, obviously you don’t want people knowing I’m yours. Why not let them think I’m up for grabs?” Their eyes narrow, shoulders squaring back as if to buck up to the god. “I never said that,” the boy’s hands fly out to either side of him, electric blue flames raining out in a bright burst from his fingertips. “You’re mine, do you fucking hear me?” He stalks closer to them, eyes a fiery fury that makes their stomach jump. If it wasn’t directed at them, (Y/n) would without a doubt find his current behavior mind-numbingly hot.  “I never said that I didn’t want people to know you’re mine. Trust me I make sure you’re marked as mine in everyone’s mind. I said I didn’t want them thinking you belonged to my friends. Don’t act like you don’t know you’re better than that.” He grabs their arm, despite his rage, the grip is gentle enough. If fire hadn’t just erupted from him like he was a human roman candle, it wouldn’t hurt. However, with his hair still aflame and that rage still flickering in his eyes, the touch burns. Flames that neither of them had noticed still dancing on his fingertips, tiny nips of electric blue. They were put out the second that they hit flesh, dying from the lack of oxygen that the close proximity put them through. But the damage was already done, the fairy ripping their arm away from him so fast that the already forming burn blisters rip themselves open.
    The sound that (Y/n) lets out is somewhere between a hiss and a whimper, throwing themself away from Hades. Eyes glassy and terrified, looking at him as if he was a threat. A hand draws up to cover the burst bubbles of flesh, squawking out in pain as they touch the raw white meat that’s left there. Hands falling limp beside them as they back away from him. Like prey that’s just been struck as a predator. Exactly how their mother had seen the two from the moment the fairy brought him into their life. Big, wet eyes stare up at him, anger completely gone, just betrayal and fear dancing through irises that normally glittered with adoration. Hades felt sick.
   “Baby,” he steps forward, pausing when his lover takes another step back. “Hey, I didn’t mean to, I,” he finds himself wordless, staring at the person he loved most, eyes flickering from their face to the raw blisters on their arm. They weren’t deep, not too big either, as long as they took care of it, the burns would heal. “Hey, I would never hurt you on purpose. Baby, you’ve got to believe me.” It wasn’t the first time that Hades had accidentally burned someone, Morgie had an interesting scar down the side of his left ankle from flames bursting from the god’s fingertips as he yelled at a pro tourney game. He knew that he had the proper stuff to treat it, if only the fae would let him get close to them. “I didn’t know. I thought I put the flames in my hands out. I am so sorry.” The fairy looks him over, looking down at the five raw spots of skin on their arm from his eyes. They knew he didn’t want to hurt them, of course they did.
   Just like he hadn’t meant to hurt them when he said they weren’t part of the group. Fluttering to conclusions with that one. “Don’t act like you don’t know you’re better than that.” He didn’t want people seeing them as a villain, still a hero in the wicked god’s mind. Would they still be after this? Or would the way they screamed at him, all insecure and fired up, make him decide they weren’t worth fighting for? The fairy finds tears pooling in their eyes, vision blurring as they stare at their lover. The fear no longer aimed at him, now turning to the idea of losing him. “I’m,” they take a breath, a soft sob dripping from their mouth, “I’m so sorry.”
    Once again, the god steps towards his fairy, hands out gently as if to prove his flames are out. His hair has dulled back down, no longer lit and cracking as he approaches. Hades has the faintest smell of smoke to him as he wraps an arm around his lover, pulling them into his chest. “Why are you apologizing? I’m not the one who got hurt.” They tilt their head up, as if to look at him but their eyes are squinted closed. “You weren’t trying to hurt me, but I was trying to hurt you. God that stuff I said about Hook, I’m not even into guys with dark hair.” The laugh that comes from his lips could probably be labeled more as a scoff, Hades ruffling his lovers hair before pressing a kiss to it, “See, this is why you can’t be a villain. A real villain wouldn’t have owned up to that. And between you and me, even if you liked guys with dark hair, Hook would never hold a candle to me.” They hum, snuggling further into him as he inspects their arm. “I need to go get this cleaned up, Baby. You popped them when you jerked away, you’ll catch an infection if we don’t go disinfect this.” They nod, not wanting to let go as he turns them, leading the fae towards the school. They could handle being burned, they were sure of that.

Our time chapter 4 (The sheer amount of times I’ve had to scream into my pillow to make it through this chapter is kind of ridiculous tbh, but it’s fine. Pure enjoyment 😭🫶🏻):
“You don’t know what it’s uh, what it’s like to live with me so we should probably not jump into that yet.”
I think the above quote confirms my suspicions 😭😭 I don’t even remember that line from my first read through but that’s probably just bc my un-observant reader-brain was like “huh okay *forgets it two seconds later*”. I believe he’s talking about his alcoholism (I’m not saying it’s confirmed bc miss Brinny doesn’t confirm it in the warnings for chapter 6, but yeah)? My guess it that this was the biggest reason why they were rocky even before Nabi or Haru’s kidnapping
Jungkook said something about them (he & Y/N) being together, which further proves that he and his and OC’s parents are hoping they’ll get back together.
Jungkook’s hesitation to get with Y/N physically despite how bad they both want to, makes a lot more sense now, as well. We can assume that he’s more against it because of the fact that they’re divorced and technically not together (plus they haven’t been talking), and not only because he’s worried she’ll get overwhelmed, though I’m sure it’s a factor. I wonder if Jungkook assumed she was overwhelmed about their marriage because he suspected she remembered something relating back to his drinking? Or something along those lines.
Pingsu. Pingsu, Pingsu, Pingsu. This cat is important, for whatever reason. I think, anyway, since he(?)’s one of the only things OC remembers from before the amnesia. Maybe something happened around this time (relating to JK and Y/N’s marriage? Since JK said they had only been married a few years at that point) after JK’s mom got Pingsu that engrained his presence into her mind? That or her brain was like “yeah you love this cat he isn’t a threat all good”, idk.
I wonder if the shadow she (the OC) remembered seeing/ saw by the window in this chapter was the person who kidnapped Haru? Like maybe they scouted out the area before kidnapping him and Y/N remembers something like that? Or, whoever this person was, he was after either JK or Y/N, because of Jungkook’s case. I’m not entirely sure.
I forgot to mention this, but in I think it’s chapter 2, Jungkook mentions how one of Y/N’s favorite animals is the koala, and I’m pretty sure that had something to do with Haru, as well. Maybe his favorite animal was a koala, or he was clingy and that reminded her of koalas.
Pretty much sums up my thoughts this chapter. I have the inkling suspicion I missed something, tbh. I’ve been doing these right after each other, so I might be mushing chapters together in my brain, or I might just miss things because I forgot about them by the end of the chapter.
Again; bad memory lol.
P.s: I really love the way you write your dialogue especially, I don’t think I’ve mentioned it, but you really know how to insert emotion into dialogue and it’s wonderful!
🤍🤍🤍
chapter 4:
1. so that line has multiple purposes :) yes it can be used solely for his fear that she will know he has a problem with drinking and his whole home life is a mess but also, him being nervous because it’s also a lie—because she does know what it’s like she just doesn’t remember
2. yn’s and jungkooks parents (we will meet them soon) all want them together because they hate seeing they’re children cope with the possible death of their own child suffer all by themselves:/ instead of at least leaning on one another
3. yes jungkook is very against doing anything physical with her because of the current circumstances. he struggled and felt weak giving in to her so easily (in his eyes) because he does love her but he also knows how wrong it would be
4. pingu was used to show she does have her memories tucked away in there and how she could remember a cat but not her son—that’ll get touched on more too later
5. the shadow, another mystery like the lake and the boat. unfortunately yn isn’t sure if the shadow was her imagination, a memory or if it happened in that moment
6. it’ll get confirmed later but a pretty good guess so yes 🥰 she will make that realization herself soon too
thank you!!!! dialogue is my favorite part to write so 🥺 <3

bnha I guess then? ep 5-7
ohey isn't that the tumbly sexlerguy of this show? with the scarf and the 5 o'clock? actually idk if he was in the poll or if drawfee just talked about him before, but he looks like one to me.
huh. he's got his shirt tucked in and all. not planning on hulking out tonight I guess. -- come to think of it tho, there hasn't been any talk so far of whether this "inheriting" of the Quirk is going to mean that All Might loses his power. -- …okay I guess this is him saying that here?
…"Itadakimasu" is translated as "I'm off!" here. I think I'm gonna have to accept that I'm never gonna know the full meaning of that one unless I put my entire ass into learning what's probably one of the harder languages to try to learn when starting from English. 'XD I should content myself with knowing about "natsukashiku."
This fucking guy again
This other fucking guy tho, Ida (Iida? Maybe the subs just misspelled it that time? idk). Cautiously starting to like him. Bit annoying, but annoying about being a decent guy.
it's the sexlerman doing his Kakuna cosplay. Forgot he did that. Maybe he's literally just Stein but less uncomfortable to watch, that'd be fun. -- Aizawa. When do we learn pink girl's name tho? The opening flashes the names by too fast.
ZUKO. IT'S ZUKO. HI ZUKO. Hope he gets some lines soon. -- literally googles just to check that he isn't voiced by dante basco bc that might be the only thing that would actually get me to watch a dub (I just like to read shows and not have to follow verbal convo I'm not here to argue about it) -- also Froppy (?) and birdman and that one guy who by reputation needs as few lines as possible and, uh, acid girl I think? and invisible girl. and, y'know, the rest
sounds like shithead's (not The Bad Shithead, the bad shithead we already know) VA is having fun, at least. sounds fucking terrifying
…eraser what. …am I not gonna wanna like this guy? I know just enough about what eraser head (the movie) is to know I don't wanna know any more about it -- pretty sure he's bullshitting about expulsion. unless it's gonna be laser navel here who gets expelled, cuz I've never seen nuffin about him before -- stg give this man a bucket hat and clogs and poof he's from a different show -- …gawd I hope nothing tempts me to continue bleach, I haven't heard anything good about the bits past that filler even tho it's aesthetically so much more my jam
Uraraka. …I read the entire Bionicle book series as a kid, I should be able to remember that just fine. … ':|
can't get the image of saitama with his head stuck in the ceiling out of his head
…ayup. no notes. next one.
"the person with the lowest total score will be expelled" meanwhile I don't think being fucking invisible makes you run any faster or throw any harder. the fuck's No-Hat-No-Clogs on about? -- absolute dickweed. also how in fuck did invisible girl beat deku? cheating? is she even able to make her clothes invisible, or is it a Violet Parr situation where it has to be a specific material?
I mean tbf you haven't tried powering up one toe at a time yet. running/skipping that way might look stupid as hell but it's better than blondie over there
"I'M DEKU!!!" 'XD -- I also love the exaggerated reaction shots in this, they're very good -- copernican…? googles nerd.
how I've never seen a gif of "I'M… COMING THROUGH THE DOOR LIKE A NORMAL PERSON!" I'll never know
these oughta be good
okay this is cute -- facepalm nobody told me deku was a furry
…well that's conve - huh. Iida being the teammate will be interesting. (also is it gonna turn out that they're lying about it being randomized now? because this is some astonishing coincidence) -- interesting that they're literally playing rainbow six siege tho
awfully metallic for paper mache
…that's… huh. powerful moment for bakugo to just throw away like he's going to
aye, next one
haha kid bakugo walks like a rugrats character
why is zuko half-covered in ice for no reason? is that sposed to be his costume?
heh. he's not Saitama or Rock Lee. He's Karate Kid. (I saw like one or two episodes of Legion of Superheroes) His superpower is knowing what it's like to not have a Quirk. -- "I need a plan." runs off ah, yes. more time for thinking. hope he stops being relatable soon and actually comes up with a plan, tho. -- you don't need to beat Bakugo if you can get him lost tho. …maybe I'm underestimating him but I would be surprised if he bothered to memorize the layout worth a damn. -- I swear his VA is channeling a lot of mob boss for a high schooler 'XD
…Iida you're being weird. for the love of fuck please don't tell me you're gonna start listening to mr bonaparte up there
"he's just standing there… cackling like an idiot"
huh. we did learn why he's got bigass grenades on his hands. -- sidenote: …when I was a kid I wrote up superpowers that my stuffed animals had. one of them was literally this. …I gotta get myself to fucking write more. (didn't write any actual stories, tho. also obv I didn't think of the gun bit) -- and that's how deku got his costume
aye. good shit. gonna stop for tonight

alpha!erasermic x pregnant!reader | ABO fluff
Request:  Hiya! i’m wondering if you can do an alpha! erasermic x pregnant! omega! reader? maybe when both alphas leave their lunch at home and she goes to bring it to them. the reader and both alphas collectively have custody of hitoshi and eri, and the reader is heavily pregnant. preferably a female reader please, and none of class 1-a have met her. this is my first time requesting stuff so i hope i did okay! 😅
You did wonderfully! I love writing cute fluffy stuff like this, and it’s my first time writing any kind of erasermic thing even though I love them so much, so hopefully I did okay! Idk where exactly this sits timeline-wise, don’t worry about it, it’s omegaverse and I can do what I want lol. I took this prompt and sort of RAN with it, too
*also Mirio has his quirk back in this because it’s fun, and the reader has kind of a dodgy past because i wanted to add a little SPICE*
Warnings: a/b/o, pregnancy, the implications of Aizawa’s scarf and all of its uses
You sighed, resting a hand on your swollen belly. “Those two...”
You had only just gotten Eri out of bed, and, upon heading into the kitchen to fix her some breakfast, you saw two lovingly-prepared bento boxes sitting on the counter. Shota and Hizashi must have forgotten them in their hurry to get to UA earlier that morning, and while you knew they could very easily grab something to eat in the cafeteria, you hated the thought of these meals going to waste.
Besides, your inner omega was a bit miffed that they hadn’t taken your home cooked food to work with them. Was Lunch Rush’s food so much better than yours that your alphas would rather eat at school? You refused to believe that, even if his quirk was cooking. There was no way that he could make your alphas a meal that could compare to the kind you always cooked for them, and maybe it was the pregnancy hormones making you extra bristly about it, but you were determined to march right on over to UA and bring them their proper lunches.
Even if you were heavily, heavily pregnant. They’d probably have something to say about you leaving the house and waddling around Musutafu with only Eri as company, but you were tough enough to fend for yourself. And besides, it was only a quick train ride to the station outside the school, and if you did get yourself into any kind of trouble, the city was chock full of pro heroes and their sidekicks, many of whom you were on a first name basis with.
“Eri!” you called, grabbing a bag to carry the boxes in. “Are you dressed yet? We’re going to visit UA!”
You could heard a thump, followed by the sound of little feet thudding as she ran to meet you. When she appeared in the doorway, her eyes were wide with excitement, her long hair falling around her shoulders messily. “Yes!”
“Go brush your hair and then we’ll go,” you laughed, ushering her towards the bathroom.
“Why are we going?” the little girl called.
“Hizashi and Shota left their lunches,” you explained. “We’re bringing them so that the food doesn’t go to waste.”
“Can we visit Deku and Togata?”
You paused to think. You hadn’t actually met any of Shota and Hizashi’s students before, your alphas always preferring that you stay home and away from the sometimes dangerous school they taught at. Well, you knew Hitoshi, of course, and since he had yet to move into the dorms on campus, he still lived at home with the rest of the family. At least he had remembered to grab his lunch. Would your adopted son be embarrassed to see you appearing at his school? Hitoshi always carried himself in a very collected manner, and the thought of being able to show up and pinch his cheeks and coo at him made you laugh.
And you knew that everyone in Class 1-A would be over the moon to see Eri. The little girl that had been rescued from Overhaul was popular amongst the young heroes-in-training, from what you’d heard, and if you were going to go all the way to UA, you’d be damned if you didn’t let her see her friends there.
“Of course we can,” you said with a smile as she came running back in, her hair significantly less tangled. “Ready?”
“Ready!” she beamed up at you.
“Do me a favor and carry this?” you offered her the tote you’d tucked the bento boxes into and she took it from you eagerly, bouncing towards the door.
You grabbed your purse, made sure your keys were inside, and followed her out, taking her free hand. Together, the two of you made your way to the nearest train station, a few neighbors waving hello as you passed. There were no villains to be seen or head of, and the pros you saw out on patrol all looked happy and relaxed. They all knew who you were, some of the betas and omegas approaching to chat about your pregnancy and ask how things were going. The alphas hung back, calling greetings or offering waves, none of them wanting to get too close to a pregnant, mated omega and risk the wrath of your alphas if their scents happened to cling to you.
The journey went smoothly, Eri sticking close to your side the entire way. You were both excited to be going to visit UA--Eri, because she would get to see Deku and Mirio, and you because you hadn’t been to the school in years--and as you stepped off the train and the gates finally came into view, you let out a happy laugh.
“Ready?” you asked Eri, leading her towards the entrance.
“Mhm!” she nodded eagerly, pulling you forward. “Let’s go! Let’s go let’s go let’s go--”
“Hang on, hang on,” you waddled after her as quickly as you could, fishing around in your purse. When you finally found what you were looking for, you pulled out an ID card, holding it up towards the sensor atop the UA Barrier gate. “You have your card?”
“Yep!” Eri said, grabbing the card hanging from the lanyard around her neck and mimicking you.
“Special ID accepted,” a robotic voice chimed. “Welcome to UA High, (y/n) and Eri.”
The gate opened and you led Eri through it, the big school looming just past it. The special ID cards you both had were a result of Shota insisting that you be able to get to UA if you ever needed to. With the upgraded security measures, and so many of the students living in the dorms, it wasn’t easy getting onto the campus without either a student or guest card. You probably technically weren’t even supposed to have one, but no one was going to argue with Aizawa and Yamada when it came to ensuring their omega would be able to get to them in case of emergency.
This wasn’t exactly an emergency, but it was still an important mission, so you had absolutely no qualms about using your special ID privileges today. You just hoped nobody else would be mad about it.
 “Hey, is that Eri I see?” a voice called.
You turned to see a blond haired, blue eyed boy jogging towards you and recognized him as Togata. He was dressed in a PE uniform, and as he stopped in front of you, you could see that he was panting.
Eri immediately set the bag down and rushed toward him, running into his open arms. “Lemillion!”
Mirio laughed as he scooped her into a hug. “What are you doing here? Aizawa didn’t mention anything about a visit!”
“Aizawa forgot his lunch today,” you said, nodding towards the bag Eri had dropped. “So we thought we’d bring it and visit.”
Mirio straightened up a bit when he realized you were there. You had to be absolutely covered in your alphas’ scents, and even if they never told any of the students about you, there was no way that Mirio hadn’t figured it out by now. Besides...your bond marks were very big and very visible, one on each side of your neck just below your scent glands. There was no way Mirio didn’t know what that all added up to.
You had never officially met him, but you’d heard plenty about all of UA’s Big Three, and after he and Deku saved Eri from the Shie Hassaikai, you’d heard even more about him. He was selfless, going so far as to sacrifice his own quirk to keep Eri safe and get her away from Overhaul, and for that, you’d always feel a little indebted to him. He’d luckily been able to get it back, but Aizawa had told you that there had been a long period in which nobody was sure it could even be returned to him.
“Oh, s-sorry!” he bowed to you. “I don’t think we’ve ever been properly introduced! I’m Togata Mirio, I was there at the Shie Hassaikai raid--”
“I’ve heard plenty about you,” you laughed as he straightened up again. “I’m (y/n). I’m the stay at home omega that keeps Shota and Hizashi from starving all the time.”
Mirio’s laugh was probably one of the most raucously happy sounds you had ever heard. “We’re all grateful for that! As for me, personally, I’m really glad Eri has such a great mom now, too. And you’ve got more on the way!”
“Sure do,” you groaned, a hand on your lower back as you tried to lean and stretch it out some. “Due date’s in just a couple weeks. Can’t wait to get ‘em outta here.”
“Well, at least you already know how to do the parenting part!” Mirio was still all smiles as Eri grabbed for his hand and he took it, picking up the tote bag as well. “Come on, it’s my free period so I’ll take you to 1-A’s classroom.”
“Thank you, Togata,” you said, hand on your belly as you followed him into the school.
“It’s no problem!” he beamed at you over his shoulder as he led the way. “It’s almost lunch, too. Perfect timing!”
“Is it really?” you glanced up at a clock on the wall, and sure enough, it was nearly noon. “Wow. Guess we took longer than I thought. But...ugh, I didn’t bring any food for myself or Eri...”
“That’s no problem! Lunch Rush always has tons of options in the Grand Mess Hall.” at your slight glare, Mirio added, “...But I’m sure even his best cooking is no substitute for a homemade meal!”
“That’s right,” you growled, waddling along down the hall.
When the three of you reached the 1-A door, Mirio used his permeation quirk to stick his head straight through it rather than knocking, and judging by the resounding scream of surprise that nearly shattered the windows, he had scared Hizashi half to death.
Mirio pulled back and opened the door, revealing a room full of groaning students, all clutching their ears. Hizashi was the only one who seemed unbothered by the sheer volume of the scream he had let out, clutching his chest instead.
“Why can’t you knock like a normal person, dumbass?” a blond boy snarled.
“Bakugou! You shouldn’t swear in front of esteemed upperclassmen!” a black-haired boy with glasses said.
“It’s not just me you’re swearing in front of!” Mirio said, still smiling, like always. With a nod of his head, he tugged Eri into the room.
Everyone lit up, and you even caught Bakugou’s harsh expression softening some at the sight of her.
“Eri!” a freckly, green haired boy exclaimed, jumping up from his seat.
“Deku!” the little girl yelled happily, letting go of Mirio’s hand to run towards him.
You watched as he knelt down to greet her, the rest of the class all getting up, or at the very least leaning over in their seats to say hello. All except Hitoshi, who looked up, made eye contact with you, started to roll his eyes, and then sighed.
Oh, you were so going to embarrass him today.
Hizashi was still trying to catch his breath, but now, with the students all distracted by Eri, he finally had a chance to notice you. You could see his nostrils flare as he recognized your scent, his head whipping around to spot you standing there in the door.
“BABE!” he rushed toward you, pulling you into a hug.
“Hi, Hizashi,” you laughed into his shoulder, clinging to his jacket as he rubbed his scent gland over your hair.
He immediately pulled back, holding you at arm’s length as he looked you over. “What’re you doing here? Everything okay?”
“I’m fine,” you chuckled. When he glanced down at your swollen belly, you added, “we’re fine.”
He let out a relieved breath. “Okay. Okay, good. Had me worried there for a sec.”
“They came to bring you lunch!” Mirio said, holding up the bag he had carried in for you. “I ran into her and Eri outside while I was out for my daily jog.”
“Togata here was very helpful,” you said. “He even carried that bag for us.”
“Gotta help everyone who needs it, whenever I can!” the teenager gave you a thumbs up.
“Thanks, Mirio.” Hizashi said, putting an arm around your shoulders and pulling you up against his side. “Means a lot to me that my family stays safe.”
“Family?”
You turned to see all of Class 1-A staring at you.
Hizashi cleared his throat, the sound practically echoing. “Everybody, this is my mate.”
The room suddenly erupted.
“Who is she?”
“Is she a pro?”
“Can’t believe anybody would put up with him...”
“Bakugou, quiet! Don’t be rude!”
“But, wait...” Deku said, still kneeling with Eri. “I thought Eri’s been living with Mr. Aizawa..?”
The students all glanced to each other before their eyes swiveled to you and Hizashi.
“Oh, Hizashi,” you teased. “You never told them?”
“I, uh...” a slight pink tinged his cheeks as he blushed.
Luckily, before he had the chance to stumble over his words any longer, he was saved by the appearance of a very tired, very disgruntled, Eraserhead.
“What the hell is going on and why the hell are you screaming in my classroom?” he growled from the doorway.
Hizashi turned the two of you to face him, and you saw the anger immediately drain from Aizawa’s face.
“...What are you doing here?” he asked, his bloodshot eyes full of concern. “Everything okay?”
“Hi, Papa!” Eri chimed from her spot next to Deku.
“...Hello, Eri. Why are you also here?”
“You both forgot your lunches,” you said, practically scolding them. “I worked hard on those!”
“So you came all the way here just to bring us lunch? You realize we have an entire cafeteria here, right?”
“Don’t even think about it,” you growled.
“You shouldn’t be walking across Musutafu without at least Hitoshi with you. It’s too dangerous.”
At the mention of his name, everyone’s heads swiveled to look at Shinso. He sighed, slumping back in his chair and dragging a hand down his face.
“You know, if you wouldn’t forget the lunches that I so lovingly put all that hard work into, I wouldn’t even have to go all the way across Musutafu to bring them to you.” you said haughtily, nose up in the air as you stared your alpha down. “And besides...you know better than anyone that I can take care of myself, and Eri, no matter how pregnant I am.”
Aizawa sighed. He knew there was no arguing with you when you got in a mood like this, and besides...you were already there.
And you were right.
Before he could even come up with something to say, the bell rang, signaling that it was time for lunch, and soon, you were walking down the hall between your two alphas, Eri riding on Deku’s shoulders as Class 1-A flooded out along with you.
You ended up sitting in the mess hall with the students, sandwiched between Hizashi and Shota. Shota didn’t seem entirely pleased with it, mentioning several times that he’d much rather be in the teachers’ lounge where it was quieter, but Eri was far too happy to be with Class 1-A for him to actually tear her away from them. She was across from you, sitting next to Deku and a brown haired girl you learned was named Ochako. Mirio had left to go find his own friends, the other two members of The Big Three, and you could see him just a few tables over, laughing loudly with a blue haired girl with a boy with pointy ears looked like he was trying to will himself out of existence next to them.
“It’s so exciting that Mr. Aizawa has a whole family!” Ochako said.
“And with Present Mic, too,” Tsu, the frog girl, said from her spot next to her.
“How long have you been together?” the pink girl, Mina, asked.
“Don’t ask so many personal questions! We should respect their privacy.” Iida said, in true class rep fashion.
When Shota only offered a grunt in reply, too focused on his lunch to actually talk with his homeroom class, and with Hizashi already stuffing his face, you took it upon yourself to chat.
“Oh, I don’t mind the questions!” you said with a good natured laugh. “I met Hizashi and Shota when we all went to school together. Then we lost touch, because I...well, I sort of...chose a different life path than they did.”
“That’s one way to put it,” Hizashi slurped up his soba.
“Here.” you looked up to see Hitoshi had brought you and Eri each a tray of food, setting them down in front of the two of you.
“You’re so good to your mother,” you cooed, reaching up to grab his cheek.
He dodged you expertly, ducking out of the way and going to sit with Bakugou and his friends on Deku’s other side. You narrowed your eyes at him, making sure he knew that he couldn’t run forever, and as Denki watched the exchange, he spoke up.
“...Wait. You didn’t become a pro hero?” he asked.
“I took the hero course here at UA.” you explained, grabbing your chopsticks. “I ended up dropping out before graduation. This is actually my first time back since then.”
“So...” Deku seemed nervous. “Were you, uh...”
“A villain?” you asked.
When he nodded quickly, you laughed and offered a nod of your own.
“Yeah, I suppose I was. My quirk used to be wild, and hard to control...I got so frustrated when I wasn’t making any progress with it that I decided to just leave school. I was mad at everyone, and I fell in with people who felt the same way. One thing leads to another, and next thing you know, I’m running from the loudest, most obnoxious pro hero in the city.”
Everyone’s eyes turned to Hizashi, who was doing his best not to choke on his lunch.
“And he never caught me,” you said adoringly, leaning against his shoulder.
“I never caught you on my own,” he corrected.
“Made my ears bleed a few times, I think.”
“Yes, and I don’t regret that.” he pressed a cute, fluttery little kiss against the tip of your nose. “You were absolutely going to kill me.”
“Not absolutely!” you protested.
“I had to rescue him.” Aizawa spoke up, his voice gruff and tired, like always. “Had to cancel your quirk and keep you tied down until the others could get to us.”
You smirked at your first memory of his scarf and what it could do, and as you did so, he realized that he had just admitted to tying you up with it in front of his idiot students.
“And that’s when I fell in looooove,” you grabbed his arm, batting your lashes at him obnoxiously.
“Not another word.” he growled.
The students were all staring at you with wide eyes. All except Hitoshi, who was rolling his.
“I guess you could say I was reformed,” you said, grabbing some noodles. “Then one thing led to another, and...here we are.” You patted your belly.
“That’s so romantic,” Mina sighed, leaning her chin on her hand.
“What’s your quirk?” Ochako asked.
“I could show you!” you said eagerly, moving to stand.
“Absolutely not.” Shota held onto your arm and forced you to sit down again. “You are due in two weeks. No nonsense until after the pups are born.”
It was your turn to roll your eyes now.
“Fine,” you mumbled with a sigh. “I never get to have fun anymore.”
“But pups are so exciting!” the invisible girl, Hagakure, said.
“Yeah!” Mina agreed.
Then, the rest of the girls bombarded you with questions.
“How many are you having?”
“What day are they coming?!”
“Can we meet them?”
“Mr. Aizawa, please can you bring them in to the dorms??”
“--But Mr. Aizawa, this is the safest place in Japan. There’s no way anything bad would happen to them--”
“--And besides, (y/n) has a super strong quirk, right? She said so!”
“Come on, just let us see the brats when they’re old enough to travel.”
The sound of Bakugou’s voice had everyone staring at the blond boy.
“...What?” he bristled. “It’s not like I care, I just want the girls to shut up.”
“Uh huh. Sure, Bakugou.” Kirishima snorted.
“...maybe.” Aizawa relented, eager to shut them all up.
That was enough for the girls, and they immediately began talking chattering about the cutest baby clothes, the best toys, and then the differences between their own upbringings. You enjoyed listening to them throughout the rest of lunch, and by the time the hour had ended, you were sad to be leaving.
“Hang on, hang on,” Hizashi said as you took Eri’s hand to leave. “Where do you think you’re going?”
“Home,” you furrowed your brow. “Why?”
“We told you,” Shota said, standing with his hands in his pockets. “We don’t want you wandering around the city.”
“And I told you, I’m fine--”
“Just stay here for the rest of the day.”
“...What?”
“We’ll all go home together later.” Hizashi smiled. “You and Eri can hang out in the lounge. I bet Midnight would love to pester you about the bump, too.”
You smiled, walking towards your alphas. “Alright. Alright, yeah. That sounds nice.”
As Class 1-A lingered at the end of the hall, watching for as long as they could get away with, Denki elbowed Hitoshi in the side.
“Dude, your mom is--”
“Don’t you dare say hot.” Shinso growled.
“Actually, I was gonna say badass, but that too--”
The purple haired boy glared at him. “Shut up, Denki.”
“What? It’s a compliment!”

Prince and Consort Dad/Family Headcanons Pt 3
here it is: the valets version of this post! i've got jasper (bleh), knight, tino, grayson, and thoma! thoma doesn't have a route atm but fingers crossed for someday 🤞🏻 anyways, please enjoy this final installment lol
jasper
no
get this man away from children
maybe he has an illegitimate kid somewhere in the world idk
ugh but anyway-
he might be surprised? but mostly i feel like he’d be somewhat smug about the news that she’s pregnant.
i feel like he’d almost gloat about it to guy, specifically. like oh she’s yours? yeah i don’t think so lmao
he’d probably be fairly confident and practical about things. i don’t think he’d  be one to be nervous or freak out really.
he may have knocked her up on purpose. like, without her being aware. i’m sorry but that just feels like a jasper thing to do, given his whole route being… how it is.
ugh god
i don’t like himmmmmmm
would he be a good dad? hm
not really
i mean he could be worse i guess
but i feel like while he’d be incredibly competent at caring for them when he did, he would also be kind of hands off a lot of the time. like. i feel like jasper is sexist and so to him, taking care of children is a job for MC.
he’d have really high expectations for his kids and would be a bit scary when they failed at things.
idk man
i don’t like the idea of jasper procreating
one jasper is enough (perhaps too many, even)
starting a get-jasper-a-vasectomy petition rn
knight
omg
similar to dia, had no real image of himself doing this and is thus ?????? the entire time
hears that mc’s pregnant and PANICS
he doesn’t even remember having a dad, let alone seeing anybody else have a decent dad. the only dad he can think of is king gilbert which uhhhhhhhh. no.
toa gives him books and tells him to take a class probably
(toa: you're upset? this seems like a time for homework)
knight is just so high strung the entire time (but he does read the books)
hovers over mc the entire time, trying to keep her comfortable and fed and rested and whatnot
faints at the birth but comes to before the kid’s out
basically holds his kid like she’s made of glass for the first several months and then he starts to kind of get it
from then he’s mr. proud dad, shows off his kid like yeah, look what we did 😎
i think they’d have like three girls, one single and a set of twins, and a while later, one boy
this puts knight even more out of his element because not only was marriage and fatherhood outside of his expectations but little girls are something he especially has no experience with
but he’s very good with them
indulges them HEAVILY because this bitch cannot say no to any of these little blue eyed babies
lots of letting his girls dress him up at tea parties and the like
coming to work with stray glitter and stickers on his outfits on occasion
falls asleep with them in their room while tucking them in, mc comes in and he’s sprawled out asleep with the kids laying on him
their boy is a surprise addition but knight is fucking THRILLED
the girls have gotten older and independent and he’s fucking pumped to have another little buddy around
he enjoys being a dad, having a family- he hasn’t always had one so he doesn’t take it for granted and tries to be the kind of parent he’d liked to have had
i luv him
tino
oh you thought you’d seen tino panic before? no. this bitch goes genuinely out of his mind.
he’s very happy but practically vibrating with anxiety. hardly sleeps after hearing the news, stays up all night trying to plan for the baby like he’s cramming for an exam
hovers over mc to an unreasonable degree
“b-but what if while you’re in town you get distracted and you trip on a loose cobblestone and you injure yourself and…”
“tino…. i love you but please.”
takes a bit of persuading before he learns to calm down (kinda)
when the mc goes into labor he somehow manages to rally that anxiety into action and is fairly helpful, though he’s obviously in a puddle of guilt and worry the entire time
tino cries when all his children are born. cries a lot. thanks mc profusely, apologizes for the pain, etc
having been mr. mom for lynt helps him with baby and kid stuff obviously
he’s probably the most actively involved, to such an extent that the mc is like, “damn let me take care of our child too tf 😒”
tino can’t breastfeed (obviously) and he apologizes for this inadequacy because he would help if he could 😩
tino, like dia, runs around with a baby strapped to him pretty often
running around to find young master with a baby in the carrier
i think tino has three sons
marriage and fatherhood helps tino grow more of a backbone- like he’s been protecting people before but the experience makes him more proactive about things
like given his experiences with daan he’s very careful to ensure that his children know how to treat others and how they should be treated
as for that whole head-valet thing with his family, when tino is in charge the expectations are very different. much less pressure, more emphasis on playing to people’s strengths rather than grooming an heir into the position. he encourages his boys to pursue their passions
tino as a dad cries at literally all of their major milestones. first steps, first haircut, first day of school, first time riding a bike, etc etc. this embarrasses them a bit but hey. that’s just tino.
all of tino’s sons somehow end up even taller than him. simply gigantic boys. they make him look short.
akedians all just have the cutest goddamn families i swear
AHHHHH
grayson
okay so similarly to hawke: if the baby’s unplanned and before getting married, he’s proposing immediately
i think he’d be even more upset with himself because like-
grayson is fairly traditional in my mind. like he’d feel like he committed some kind of grave sin against mc if she’s pregnant before they’re married
i think it’d take some convincing from mc for him to stop beating himself up about it. like no forreal i’m happy grayson pls 🥲
i think they’d have a wedding real fast at that church on the hill, yknow the one
i remember that grayson lost his dad as a kid and his uncle stepped in until he died (?), so grayson has some idea of what to do- but i think he’d be feeling that lack of role model and would probably, despite his professionalism, be visibly stressed
i can see roy and sherry organizing to help him, cheer him up, encourage him a little
sherry bakes him some horrifying scones to make him feel better and the gesture works even if the baked goods... don’t
i can see roy’s dad (forgetting his name lol) giving him some advice about raising kids. very cute 10/10
grayson, like dia, would be very protective and would probably have his hand on the bump as often as possible
i think as time went on he’d get very emotionally invested, very attached
trying to talk through her stomach to the baby at night
cute cute cute
rubs mc’s back and feet, runs her baths- basically becomes her valet as well
he’s a good one
anyways i think it’d be a girl, that first one
he is absolutely wrapped around her finger forever. he is a giant softie and at time a little bit of a pushover with all his kids tbh
i can see them maybe having three or four? i think the rest would be boys
he would be very happy as a dad, i think. i think he’d absolutely love it. he’d adore his family like nothing else
i can see that firstborn of his being tenacious and wild when little, i think he’d earn a couple gray hairs with her
i don’t have much else to say other than that i think he’s made for this shit, forreal. gold star dad-ing outta this one
thoma
i wish i knew more about him but alas
i think he’d also be one of the most actively involved of the dads
his and rio’s kids growing up like cousins just running rampant all over the place
i think maybe he’d have two or three kids biologically, but from what i remember he was an orphan so it really wouldn’t shock me if they end up taking in a lot of children from the orphanage
when he hears mc’s pregnant, no matter if they planned it or if it was a surprise, he’d be massively excited and pumped but secretly pretty terrified
very helpful the whole time and does not let that anxiety show to anyone, except maybe he would confide in teto? i feel like teto would give good advice. my assumption is that the voleri family has just a shit ton of children in it so teto would know about babies and could give well informed reassurances. rio probably couldn’t lol
i feel like he'd be a very encouraging partner and parent. like he'd cheer his kids on so much, just 110% in their corner and wanting them to thrive and succeed no matter what they do
he's a cutie for sure

imagine that gaby+illya+napoleon find a stray cat or dog and decide to adopt it. how would they name it and do you think they would fight a lot about the name??
Ok, well, this is adorable, and I can definitely see it. Idk why exactly but I see Napoleon as the soft touch who's responsible for getting them into the situation in the first place. He finds a tiny puppy while they're in the process of clearing a facility or something, and he just can't leave it behind. He knows the others won't approve so he smuggles the puppy out, tucked in his jacket, and when he pulls the puppy out later Illya is like No. Way. We can't keep a dog right now, we're in the middle of a mission, there's no time for this, you are being a ridiculous soft American. Gaby agrees with him but also is immediately taken with the puppy so she's not much help, and ultimately Illya is overruled. Or more like, Napoleon just continues to ignore him and does what he wants, lol. They bring the dog home with them, and he becomes a fixture at UNCLE.
They absolutely cannot agree on a name. Honestly I'm terrible at naming pets, I usually just let them "name themselves" and don't decide on anything for a long time, although this is more difficult if you have a pet that can actually learn it's name. All this to say I have no idea what they'd want to call him, except that they wouldn't agree and that I think the dog would go a while without an "official" name. Illya would be against naming him entirely, saying they shouldn't get attached; Napoleon would maybe want something clever and/or elegant, like the name of an artist; Gaby would argue those aren't names for a dog, he needs something punchy and fun.
Illya definitely puts up his best shot at resisting the lure of the puppy. He makes a big show of disapproving all the time at how Napoleon dotes on him and just having him around. But. BUT. We know that's all for show. Illya acts that way because he should, but of course deep down he's a soft marshmallow. He TRIES to resist, he does, but the dog loves him anyway in that way that dogs have, and slowly, secretly, he's won over. Which brings me back to the name. You see, whatever the others call the dog, Illya will only call it "dog" in Russian. With the caveat that I do not speak Russian and I am pulling the info from this article, I love the idea of him always calling it моська (moska), which can apparently be an affectionate or sarcastic word for a small dog (perhaps, based on further research, specifically a pug, but I’m rolling with it for now; пёс/пёсик pyos/pysosik is another more generic possibility). It starts out as entirely sarcastic, and definitely becomes affectionate later on. I hope you can guess what happens: the dog’s name is forever that now, he will only come to that name, much to Napoleon’s chagrin. But also, the day Napoleon discovers Illya surreptitiously spoiling the dog in the UNCLE kitchens, he is triumphant. Napoleon has won, even if the dog is now actually Illya’s. 😂

Gypsophila (H.S)
Summary: Prince Harry has been under great pressure to find a wife, and he finds his Queen in a way far more unconventional than he could’ve imagined.
Words: 5,730
Warnings: It’s a bit strange I guess? Idk lol.
A/N: Someone requested a Prince!Harry au forever ago, and then I didn’t really have an opportunity to write for a while, and then this idea sprung up on me and I’ve been lost in this little au for the past few days. It’s like a little twisted fairytale, taking inspiration from Snow White and Sleeping Beauty mostly. Part two is already a work in progress. If people are interested I’ll even put out a little sort of world building lore post with a map of the kingdom etc (I’ve been in DEEP). This part is a bit choppy and barely edited because I was just so eager to write it and get something out, but I would really appreciate any constructive criticism and editing notes! TYSM!! Long story short, enjoy!!!
 ♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡
Harry Edward Styles did not believe in true love, in fact, he thought it was the most ridiculous idea ever. Harry’s certain he’s laid eyes upon every eligible young lady, from his kingdom and the ones surrounding, and he hadn’t felt a single thing when looking at any of them. He prayed every night that he would find his love the next day, and finally be able to put his parents out of their misery and ascend to the throne. At the age of 27, Harry’s the oldest person in his family to not be married, no one every waited this long in the royal family. He would’ve had an arranged marriage at 21, though when his parents suggested that he ran away on a sailing ship for two months. One thing was clear to him: though he may not have experienced love yet, he wasn’t going to ruin his chances at true by being forced into a loveless marriage. It wasn’t only Harry’s parents, but the entire kingdom that woke each day hoping to hear that their Prince had found his Queen. They referred to Harry as the Good Prince, his subjects adored him, and lived for his acts of charity and selflessness, and they only hoped he would find a Queen that would treat them the same.
Harry’s outlook on love changed however, after his most recent hunting trip. Sundays are for family and hunting, that’s what Harry was always told. No day was for Harry, he’d come to learn that. Living under a microscope meant for very little alone time, and almost no guilt-free alone time. He and his hunting party rode across the fields and out to the dense forest surrounding the kingdom, and over the two hour journey Harry found himself agitated with the topics of conversation going on around him. He wanted a break, tired of everyone only ever speaking about royal duties or politics. Harry had discovered a fresh water lake if he went off the trail, and when he realised they were edging closer to his favourite place he decided to excuse himself with the excuse of needing to fill his canteen.
The natural spring was a hidden treasure indeed. Harry’s entire kingdom was cut off from the rest of the world due to the thick forestland surrounding it. There was only one trail in, and one trail out, and even then only experienced riders were able to make the journey. The end of the trail, in the deep of the forest, was also often lined with thieves and outcasts making it not the safest journey. This spring wasn’t necessarily hard to find, however thick trees that lined the main trail hid the spring, the gorgeous wild flowers, and clearing of soft grass either side. Harry tied his horse to his usual tree, softly parting the bushes careful to not cause any permanent damage, and stepped his way through. His kingdom was full of hidden treasures like this, tucked away in places only to be found by those adventurous enough.
The sound of the running water was most prominent, however the closer he walked to the spring, the more he could hear a faint, delicate singing voice. Harry couldn’t recognise the song, but it was one he’d never forget now. It felt as though his heart dropped in his stomach, and he had to lightly scratch his arm on a branch to double check he hasn’t died and was hearing an angel of heaven sing to him. He walked closer, with quiet footsteps so not to disturb the singing. He knelt down to the edge of the spring and began to fill his canteen, looking around his eyes eventually focused on the source of his siren, standing in the clearing over the other side of the spring as she picked a bouquet of dainty flowers. Lavender, daisies, bellflowers, poppies. Her body was dressed in sage green, the simple dress showed she definitely was not from a wealthy family, but it was simple and beautiful in its own way. Perhaps she sewed it herself, it did look as if it were made for her. He could see her hair shine from here, and the features of her side profile were striking him even from a distance. She didn’t look real. The strange girl across the spring looked ethereal, like her beauty was too surreal for this planet. Had he hit his head? Was he seeing a forest fairy? He hadn’t even realised the staggering increase in his heart rate as he watched the girl, and listened.
He lost track of how long he had been watching her for, snapped out of his daydream when he heard a “Your Royal Highness! We must be getting on!” Harry heard shouting at him from a distance, most likely back where he had tied his horse. The girl had heard the faint noise and her eyes shot in Harry’s direction. His cheeks flushed with heat as their eyes met only for a brief second, before she ran away. The eye contact brought a slight curve to his lips, although she was leaving, at least he got another good look at her.
“Wait!” He called as he stood up, his hand and canteen dripping wet. His eyes softened as she simply left, looking back briefly in her stride, but he’d blown it. “God fucking damn it.” He cursed under his breath as he began to trudge back to his horse, his feet weighing heavy on the ground.
That was the most he’d ever felt, looking at the stranger across the lake singing as if it were for him, and he couldn’t help but feel like he’d just lost his future Queen. Half of him wanted to wade through the water and run after her, but Harry wasn’t a often disobedient Prince, when one of his parents or advisors told him to jump, his usual response would be “how high?” It’s ironic how for someone who’s whole life depends on finding his future Queen is given so little time to actually explore a social life, or love life himself. He was always set up with suitors who his parents found best. In the rare times he’s able to sneak away he’d gotten around, and most definitely wasn’t a virgin, but he’d never found a girl who had made him feel the way he wanted to feel about his future queen. He only wanted to please his family, and his realm, but this was the one thing where he refused to compromise.
Y/N was as far away from a future queen as it could come, or at least that’s what her step-mother wanted everyone to think. The entire town hoped to marry their daughters off to the elusive Good Prince Harry, however her step-mother only wanted her biological daughters to have that chance. When Y/N’s father passed away her step-mother sent her out to live as a recluse in a tiny cottage in the woods, she had always feared that her beauty would distract future husbands away from her actual daughters, and didn’t want to ruin their chance of being married. Each Sunday she drops Y/N off the supplies she needs, but that was the only human contact she was given. It wasn’t too bad, she managed to keep herself busy with sewing, baking, or whatever other art or craft she could think of and had the materials for. It was lonely though, and she was ultimately alone.
Well, if you don’t count forest fairies. Y/N hated being outcast into the forest, and spent most of her early months in the cottage crying to whatever wild animal she could find that day that would stick around long enough. Eventually, these wild animals started bringing their fairy friends along with them. They would spend their days with Y/N tending to fruit and vegetable gardens, watering plants, having picnics, and making daisy chains. Her life was simple, and although not one she asked, it was one she was growing fond of. Male company was something she could only imagine and long for, or read about in story books. There were dozens of fairies living in the forest, but she’d become particularly close to a group of some of the female fairies.
Each Sunday before her step mother visits, Y/N will pick her step mother a bouquet of flowers in attempt to win her over, in hopes maybe one day her sweetness will earn her way back into town. Y/N had total obliviousness towards her step mother’s plan, and towards what was going on in the city. This year, any woman over the age of 21 was to present herself to the Prince. Y/N’s 21st birthday fell on the day she was scheduled to be presented to the Prince. The letter had been delivered shortly before she was sent away to the forest, Y/N never laid her eyes upon it though. The letter outlined the royal guard would be coming to collect anyone who failed to present themselves on the day, and to Y/N’s step mother that meant the only option was to make it so Y/N never turned 21, or made it to her birthday for that matter.
Seeing the Prince most definitely did spook Y/N during that day in the field, if her step mother ever found out she’d had contact with a male there was no chance she’d ever be allowed to move back home. She did all she could think to do. She ran. She ran so fast that the petals of the flowers she had picked were ruined in her haste, quickly shutting herself inside the cottage to gather herself before her routine afternoon visit from her step mother. Sure she knew of men to be dangerous and terrible, but she feared her step-mother’s wrath more than anything any man could put her through.
Like any other Sunday, she scrubbed the house and dressed herself in whatever new garment she had stitched herself this week. The fairies had been busy this week and she’d had a great deal of time to herself, embroidering colourful flowers into the soft white linen of the new dress she had made. Her step-mother would bring her fabric and thread to sew dresses for her step sisters. It was something to be proud of, but most likely would be over looked. Little was said upon her step-mother’s arrival, but her character seemed off. Her step-mother’s eyes darted around, checking windows as she insisted on making the two of them tea. Y/N sat down at the small dining table, recounting tales of her week, ensuring to leave out anything about fairies or a boy. She watched a small bunny outside the window, forgetting to speak as awe overwhelmed her whilst she watched its tiny nose twitch. Her daydream came to an end when the sound of the ceramic mug hit the hard wood of the coffee table. “Drink while it’s warm, my love.” Her step-mother told her, sitting down in the seat at the head of the table beside Y/N. It wasn’t long after that that Y/N hit the floor, and her step-mother was shrouding herself in a hooded coat and sneaking out of the tiny cabin.
Elsie, a fairy most close to Y/N, who specialises in healing, came to the conclusion that she was only out for about six hours before the fairies found her. They did all they could over the following weeks to bring her back to life, trying as many possible rituals, potions, and spells to give life to her body once more. Nothing was of use though, and instead they decided to preserve her in a glass case in the clearing amongst the wildflowers. She had professed to them that the clearing by the spring had been her favourite place, so they saw this fit. Preserving her in the glass case was simply because the idea of her beauty decaying away made any of the fairies shriek. Fairies never communicated with humans, however Y/N was different. Elsie had always theorised that Y/N had magic in her blood. Amongst the many spells and rituals they tried to bring Y/N back, they threw in a spell that would hopefully bring her back with true love’s kiss. It was like a safety net, or a ‘what if?’ But they eventually tired and wore out, preserving her was well enough for now. They kept her dressed in the new dress she had crafted for herself, it was so beautiful after all. They had placed tiny baby’s breath flowers throughout her hair, and made sure everything was perfect. They even went as far to adorn her in delicate gold jewellery, with beautiful crystals of all colours. Her body rested upon a large rectangular slab of rose quartz.

Harry was dreading sitting in the throne room, while all the eligible females from the town were presented to him like livestock. It made him sick, and left a terrible taste in his mouth. All he could think of was the girl from the clearing. Is she a sign? Is he his ticket out of here? Was seeing her fate? Questions like that simmered over his mind and kept him awake at night, he had been sleeping little and finding it hard to focus on his duties. His best friend Niall was he closest confidant, the only one he had told about the beautiful girl in the clearing that day. Niall cared more for Harry than anyone, really. He didn’t just care about his fame or power or wealth, Harry was his best friend and he hated seeing his best mate so down about his love life and the pressure to marry a woman he doesn’t love. He made it his mission to find the woman, and his detective work lead him down a path he didn’t expect at all. First he went to the clearing where Harry filled his water in the spring, that was where he first noticed something over the other side of the spring that he couldn’t quite make out. He followed the spring and found an area narrow enough to cross, making his way to the structure he’d seen earlier. He didn’t know what to make of this discover, a dead girl in a glass coffin. ‘Forever at rest, only to be woken by true love’s kiss’ read an inscription on a gold plaque. He really didn’t know what to make of this. He didn’t know what to tell Harry.
Sweat lingered Niall’s brow as he made his way back to the castle to find Harry, to tell him of his discovery. “Look… I just need you to come with me and tell me what you think when we’re there.” Niall tells him, his voice somewhat breathless. Niall himself was still in disbelief, shock, his eyes wide as he shook his head. “I just- I don’t know what to tell you. You need to see it for yourself.” He adds.
Harry nods. “I’ll come immediately.” Harry tells him, his trust for Niall outweighing anything else going on in his head. Together they rode to the forest, crossed the narrow part of the spring, and towards where Niall had discovered Y/N.
“Is this the girl you were talking about?” Niall asks, however when he looks from the girl to Harry, he knows the answer. Harry couldn’t help but fall to his knees, pressing his palms against the glass as he looked inside. He noticed how long her eyelashes looked, and the freckles on her nose. His nose was almost touching the glass as he leant here on his knees at the side of her, taking her in up close.
“What happened to you?” He whispers, his eyebrows knitting together. Niall gives him a moment before he decides to mention the plaque at the foot of the structure.
“It uh, says something weird about being awoken by true love’s kiss. I don’t know if it’s true, and it’s revolting to think you would kiss a dead body for nothing, but someone has put her here. Someone made this. My grandmother in her old age would mutter stories about forest fairies and their magic… It just makes you wonder, you know?” He ponders, his eyes wandering away. It felt silly to bring up magic, it was something very commonly dismissed.
“Help me get this off.” Harry said as he brought himself from the ground, the soft grass had left green stains on his tan riding pants. He pushed the sleeves of his white linen button down up past his elbows, and the two men carefully lift the heavy glass case up off of the rose quartz Y/N had been resting on. It wasn’t easy, and the glass at the bottom dug into Harry’s fingers before they set the glass piece of the structure down on to the grass. “Alright. Here we go.” Harry said, in attempt to psych himself up for kissing a dead girl. She didn’t look dead though, just sleeping, you could only tell she was dead due to the missing rising and fall in her chest with her breath. “I might start walking back to the horses, give you some privacy.” Niall said, giving him a slight smile. He also didn’t really want to witness someone kiss a dead person, if she didn’t end up waking up.
“Good luck. Take your time.” He adds, part of him had no doubt it was going to work though. The stories his grandmother would tell him of the forest fairies were something he’d always held on to, those stories were amongst his most treasured memories. He’d always had some hope.
Harry waited until he could no longer hear Niall’s footsteps before he leant down close to Y/N, brushing a strand of hair back behind her ear. He took a moment, if this never worked it was going to be the last time he’d ever see her. He couldn’t fathom coming back to this spot if this didn’t work. His heart began to ache at the thought, it made his chest feel tight, and gave him the urge to rub at the spot.
“I really hope you’re who I think you are.” He whispers as he looks down at her. “This might seem like absolute madness. I don’t even know your name, but if you wake up for me, I swear to you I will be yours forever.” He began, to Harry this almost did feel like a ritual, it felt special, and the words he was speaking were amongst the most genuine he’d ever given life to. “I promise, I will protect you. I will provide for you. I will love you. I will never, ever harm you. I will love you until my very last breath, I just need you to do this one thing for me.” His voice was barely a whisper now, and breaking as hot tears welled in his eyes. He very carefully leant down, pressing his warm, puffy lips against her cold, smooth ones. He didn’t know how long to wait, but it didn’t feel wrong. It was a sweet, tender kiss. His eyes closed, and he felt at peace. It felt more than at peace. The long grass, wildflowers, and tree branches that surrounded them began to stir with wind, petals floating up into the gusts that took them. This girl had a tendency to make him feel like he’s dead and in heaven. Her lips slowly began to warm, and skin began to glow with heat. It felt like they were floating, as if the universe was made up of just the two of them. The flowers beneath him began to grow taller and more dense, and it began to feel like his heart was pulling towards hers. It felt like a tether had been formed, connecting their energy, he could feel as her heart began to pump blood again, and her energy radiate from her skin. It felt too surreal.
Slowly, Harry removed his lips to allow Y/N to breathe. He let a hand lay gently resting on her cheek as he watched her gasp for her first new breath, eyes shooting open as she looked up at him. It wasn’t shock she was met with when her eyes met Harry’s, but peace. The luminous green eyes that were gazing down upon her were like lighthouses, guiding her towards safety. So many questions began to race her mind as she came to reality, unable to decide which one to ask first. As if based on intuition, Harry decided to speak. “I uh- I’m not too sure what happened to you but my friend found you here today and brought me to you. I believe I saw you a few weeks ago, in the same spot. I’m not sure how long you’ve been out here, but there was this little plaque at the end of this thing here, that said something about a kiss to wake you up… I’m sorry for kissing you without your consent, but I couldn’t risk not taking this chance.” He didn’t mean to ramble or to overwhelm her with his spiel, but he was overwhelmed himself with everything that had just gone on. True love’s kiss. His queen. His true love. The other half of his soul, in human form. Y/N’s lips parted as if to speak, but nothing came out. She closed them once more as she sat up and looked around, swinging her legs off the side of the marble before looking back up to Harry. Her movement had disconnected his hand from her face, and they both longed for each other’s touch once more already. Her eyes began to well with tears as she began to think about how she got here, her last memories.
“I can only assume how overwhelming this must all be for you… We can stay here as long as you need, it’s just us. When you feel ready for it, I can take you back to my home and we can get you showered and fed. I don’t mean you any harm.” Harry doesn’t even need to add that last sentence though, because she can feel it. She can feel his love for her, she could almost hear it if she listened closely enough, as if his heart was now beating a song for her.
Harry stood back, as if to give the doe eyed girl some space. She looked at him as if he was the most precious treasure on Earth, he’d never felt so overwhelmed with love. This was followed by her delicate hands reaching out, taking ahold of his as she brought herself to stand in front of him. “Is it alright if you hold me for a second?” She asked softly, needing time to process things.
It had been so long since she had been touched affectionately, she couldn’t really remember it. Her father was never affectionate, nor her step mother or step sisters or anyone else she’d met. She felt comfortable with the stranger in front of her though, and didn’t have the energy to resist the magnet like force pulling her towards him.
“Of course.” He responds, his voice soft as he wraps his arms gently around her frame, pulling her into his warm figure. Harry was like the perfect, giant teddy bear… but he wasn’t really that soft. Pressed against him she could feel how chiseled his features are. Her arms wrapped around his waist as she relaxed into him, cheek against the skin of his chest kindly revealed by the first few buttons of his shirt being undone. “What’s your name?” He asks, tangling his fingers in her hair to lightly rub his fingertips against the tender skin at the back of her neck.
“Y/N Y/L/N. Yours?” She asks, looking up to the tall, broad man.
“Harry.” He decides on leaving out his royal title or last name.
“Just Harry?” She asks, her eyebrows raising.
“For now. We have plenty of time to talk about me later.” He notes, removing the same rogue strand of hair as before from her cheek, tucking it behind her ear. It was almost as if her hair had a life of its own, breathing, like the other flora growing in the forest. He had noticed the baby’s breath in her hair, though her hair moved, they remained in the same places, as if growing out of their place on the strand of hair. “What do you last remember?” He asks, needing to know if whatever put her in eternal sleep had been by accident, or as an act of malice. She looks back away from his face, resting her cheek once more against his chest.
“My step-mother, Styephania came over, she made me tea. That’s all I can really remember.” She said, unable to stop the disappointed sigh from escaping her lips. Maybe she’d had a freak health accident, like a stroke. Just because she’d been mistreated by her step mother her whole life, didn’t mean she was capable of murder. She knew her step mother didn’t put her out here though, this was the work of fairies. They were looking on, hiding in the bushes as they stood witness to young love blossom in front of them, not wanting to disturb the two of them. “I look crazy, and it sounds crazier saying this, but I’m certain the forest fairies are responsible for looking after me and putting me here. The day she came over was the day I think you saw me here, and I’m not sure how I’m meant to feel but I don’t feel like I’ve been a dead body since then. I feel like no time has passed at all.” Harry avidly listened to her speak, her voice like caramel, seeping in his ears and warming his whole body. Harry wasn’t phased by her mentioning fairies, Niall had suspecting this being their work earlier. It was the only explanation Harry could think of. He couldn’t understand why her step mother would leave her here, why she wouldn’t find her help.
He didn’t want to worry his sweet girl now, he wanted to make sure she felt alright, safe, and cared for. His grip on her wasn’t too tight, but firm in a comforting way. “The plaque… It mentioned how you’d only be woken by true love’s kiss.” He figured the longer he waited to tell her the stranger it would be. His cheeks were red, as if embarrassed or ashamed to tell her about the plaque, how strange it all was. Her eyes met his, and the connection gave him whiplash. He couldn’t peel his eyes away, getting lost in the little pools. He wanted to know everything about her, what she liked, disliked, what she ate for breakfast, her favourite songs, flowers, secrets. Everything.
“I don’t know if I know what love feels like. The only men I’ve spoken to are all twice my age. I wasn’t really allowed to see boys. You’re definitely much, much more beautiful than I would’ve imagined a man to be, and I’m certain that my heart is literally beating for you now, since you woke me.” She tells him, the descriptions of heroes in stories she would read, or how she would imagine the older men to look when they were younger, were incomparable to Harry. The compliment made his cheeks flush. With each beat of her heart, it was as if it was pulling her closer to Harry, calling out for him, begging for him to love on her and soothe the ache in her chest.
“How has God made something so sweet?” He mumbles, he hadn’t even realised he’d said it out loud at first. “You’re breath taking. The most beautiful woman I’ve ever laid my eyes upon, and trust me when I say I’ve seen a lot of them. Even from far away, the first time I saw you… You make me nervous. You make my heart race, and my palms sweat, and I get butterflies in my stomach and nervous when I think about saying the wrong thing or not having you like me. It’s as if you’ve been carved by God himself, like he was showing off when he made you so beautiful. I wish I’d met you sooner.” Those last words burn his throat, how easier the last few years would have been if he had just been able to find her sooner.
*****
Harry sent Niall back to the castle first, having him instruct everyone to clear out the path that the Prince and his soon to be queen would take to his suite, he didn’t want to spook her with people around. The guards had to stay though, non-negotiable. He also had Niall ensure the doctor was on standby, just to check on Y/N and stay in the castle over the upcoming weeks in case anything else happened. Security was going to be increased, and tightened, and a warrant put out for her step mother.
The two hour horseback ride to the castle would give them well enough time to get to know each other, Harry and Niall had also switched horses, Niall’s being the slower of the two. “I don’t want to startle you when we get there. I also don’t know how to really tell you this. I’m in the royal family, so the guards and whatnot are something to just be ignored. They’re for your protection. I don’t know if you heard much of what I was telling Niall earlier, but you’re going to be very safe here, and we’ll find out what happened. I’ll look after you, I promise.” His eyes are ahead as he speaks, looking over the vast green fields ahead of them once they eventually emerged from the forest.
“Still just Harry, to me.” She reassured, sensing his nerves about revealing this information to her. His shoulders relaxed at her reaction, and a smile formed on his lips when his mind began to wander into what their future may be like. His queen.
“Hey, one day that’ll be King Harry to you.” He joked, thankful that it was received with a laugh. Her laughter was almost as sweet as her songs, and for the rest of the journey he made it his mission to mine as many possible laughs out of her as he could, like little nuggets of treasure. After making their way through the fields that lined the forest, they went down a long road that served as a divide between two of the castle’s towns, and at the end of that road just past a small valley of mountains was a sight far more glorious than Y/N had imagined. Her village was a small village that contained mostly candlemakers and dressmakers, and it sat further to the east, people only ever going out there to purchase fine candles and clothing. It was niche though, and not many could afford the fineries the master crafters in her village would create. Y/N hadn’t even really seen a home larger than a cottage, Harry’s castle looked large enough as if it could contain its own little world, a complete wilderness of towers surrounded by fine gardens, protected by a large moat with a standalone drawbridge. Harry didn’t even need to announce himself, the drawbridge was already in the process of being lowered for him.
“I had Niall clear our path, I don’t want to overwhelm you. I’ll introduce you to everyone when you’re ready.” Harry reassures her, she hadn’t even thought of anyone else though, too in awe of the sights around her. Flowers she’d never seen before laced these gardens, with fine marble sculptures and fountains protruding from them.
“I can’t believe this is your home.” Y/N whispers, unable to think of anything else to say.
“Your home too, if you’d like.” Harry replies, though his words immediately shrouded him with nerves about rushing Y/N into anything. It was stupid, they were each other’s true love’s, but it felt wrong being strangers, so Harry tried his best to conceal things. He’d never been in a conventional relationship before, never mind whatever this arrangement is or was going to be. He just knew he wasn’t meant to rush things, so he tried to refrain from expressing his feelings as best as he could. Her arms around his waist tightened, Y/N needing to feel as close to Harry as possible. He held the reins in one hand, the other arm resting over hers around his stomach, holding on to her arm to make sure she couldn’t let go.
“I’d like that.” Y/N reassures, gently rubbing his side to soothe him. Harry was too caught up in his own feelings to pay attention to how calm Y/N was. She could feel his anxiety though, and continued to try to soothe him as best she could. Y/N knew very little about Harry so far, but what she did know was that he was kind, caring, and had a lot of worries. She’d never been a worrisome person, and if anything would even refer to herself as naive, it was something she’d always been almost ashamed of but in this moment felt like maybe she’d been made to be by Harry’s side. Y/N liked the idea of spending her days being Harry’s rock, a voice of reason. She’d rather a man like this than one who had no emotions, that was for sure. It could’ve been whatever was now eternally bonding them, but she swears she was feeling his emotions, able to see his aura if she really studied hard enough. She sunk into him some more, her arms around his waist, cheek resting against his back. Harry made sure to take it extra slow, giving his love enough time to appreciate the flowers. She seemed to like flowers, and his mother took pride in this being the most beautiful garden amongst all of the kingdoms. He couldn’t wait to show her all the fineries that came with his life.

Hi!!! I was wondering if you could write a oneshot for Teru Minamoto where the fem!reader had to get braces, and she's nervous about talking to, smiling around, or just going near her best friend(and highkey crush), Teru, because she's nervous he'll think it's weird, and he's confused as to why she's not hanging out with him anymore until he finds out through Kou or Akane, so he tries to get her to hang out with him again and it ends in a soft confession?
Then they pick out bands together
If that's too much, if you don't want to do it, or you want to do headcanons instead, that's totally alright!! Not everything has to be exact! Thank you so much in advance!!! ❤😁😊
teru minamoto x f!reader
a/n: hello!! Sure thing, it’s not too much at all <3!! Also, assuming this is about a personal experience, just know braces are sooo adorable- i’m sure they’re a pain to have, but idk they’re genuinely just c u t e - anyway, i hope you like this!! I feel like it’s a bit jumbled at the end, and i’m really sorry for that,,
warnings: none <3
word count: 1,665
If there’s one thing you could describe Teru as, the word count most likely be “perceptive.” Yes, that wasn’t all there was to him- everyone was well aware, no matter how they looked at Teru, that he had character. One thing most also would use to describe him, be it because they knew him personally or only saw him at school, was kind. And the kind, perceptive Teru was quick to notice something off about the way you were treating him. He saw you in the halls, a nervous closed-mouth smile on your face as you talked to a friend. He watched as your eyes met his, watched as you saw him wave, and watched as you dismissively waved back, looking away from him quickly.
It continued on throughout the day, gaining much of his concern.
“(Y/N). Are you feeling alright?” He had asked at one point, spotting you as you were carrying your lunch to wherever you planned to eat it. The same nervous look crossed your face as you nodded. You tried to bring a hand to cover your mouth, trying to play off the action as you told Teru you were feeling fine.
Then, like that, you nodded your head and sped off.
Those interactions were enough to leave Teru absolutely perplexed. Had he done something? Said something? Did someone else say something about him? He racked his brain, trying to remember anything that could have upset you. Nothing immediately came to mind, and the school’s prince finally heaved a long sigh.
To that, the only other person in the room, the student council’s Vice President Akane, gave Teru a sideways glance. Teru glanced at Akane, raising his eyebrows. “What?”
“What do you mean what?” Akane questioned, narrowing his eyebrows at Teru.
“What are you looking at? The paperwork is right there. Could you be slacking off?”
“I’m looking at some boy who just uncharacteristically sighed. If anything, you’re the one slacking off-”
“Actually, I’m ahead.”
Akane rolled his eyes, stopping himself from mocking Teru as he continued his work.
Teru looked back at his work as well, tapping his pencil a bit as he found his spot back on the paper.
“Alright. What’s wrong?” Akane asked, sitting back and sending a slight glare to the pencil Teru had just been tapping. Normally, the student council room was entirely silent, and Akane was beginning to take Teru’s sighs and taps as him basically shouting “I’ve found something that upsets me! Care to know why?” Though it may not exactly be intentional, it was still somewhat of a disruption compared to the normal.
Teru sat still for a moment, before shrugging a bit. “Aren’t you friends with (Y/N), Aoi?”
“Yes. Why? If it’s anything weird, you know I-”
“Only have eyes for Ao-chan, yes, yes-”
“You don’t have permission to call her-” “So, as (Y/N)’s friend, do you…” Teru paused a bit, questioning whether or not he was really about to ask him something that he felt was so important, “know why she’s been acting so strange lately?”
“Oh. She got braces recently, and I think is feeling self-conscious about them.”
At that, Teru let out a soft, nearly silent, ‘oh.’ Nodding, Teru began to work on his paperwork once more, though his mind was anything but settled.
Why would she feel the need to be self-conscious around me…? It’s not as if she can help it. I’m sure she looks as cute as ever- I’d hope she thinks so as well… Teru nodded again, only to himself this time, as he silently agreed that he was going to try and make (Y/N) feel better.
-
The next day came soon enough, and Teru found himself already beginning to try and spot you in the halls.
“Good morning, (Y/N),” He said, waving to you as you passed each other in the hall. You glanced over, opening your mouth to respond, but shutting it quickly. You settled for waving, as you gave him a tight-lipped smile. After you were out of sight, Teru frowned a bit, truly accepting that you were bound to be stubborn about it. Luckily for him, Teru knew a thing or two about being stubborn.
The day passed quickly enough, and full of Teru trying and failing to make conversation with you. Attempts to walk with you in the halls failed thanks to both his fans and the excuse of “class is about to start.” Conversations were quickly dismissed with a nod and a wave. Even his offer to sit with you at lunch was rejected, as you muttered that you already promised to sit with someone. However, Teru wasn’t giving in, the final offer finally able to be set in motion.
As you stood by your locked, placing things in your bookbag, Teru made his way over. Once you stood up, slinging your bag over your shoulder, you were met by the tall boy’s presence.
“Teru,” You muttered, glancing to the side as you attempted to hide your mouth as best you could. “Hey, (Y/N). I don’t have anything to stay for today- want to walk home together?”
Teru knew that was a rather normal thing to ask, and you did too. Often on days like those, he’d walk you home- in fact, he barely had to ask any more, simply requesting it for the sake of you know that he’d be walking home with you.
“Oh, uh… well-”
“Well?” Teru repeating, already reaching for your bag so you could carry it. You felt your face warm up as you searched your mind for an excuse, but- it was already too late, your bookbag taken from you and now settled on Teru’s shoulder. To that, you simply looked at the ground, beginning to walk alongside Teru.
As you exited the school, Teru glanced down at you, pondering what he should do.
“How was your day? I didn’t really get to talk to you much today,” He asked, glancing at the path, then back at you as you responded.
With your head still tucked down so he couldn’t see your mouth, you responded with, “it was fine, not much happened… what about yours?”
“It was alright. I wish you’d look at me though… I’d like to see your smile.”
“Ah, it’s- it’s not much to look at, I don’t think-”
“No matter what, your smile is beautiful, (Y/N). It’s enough to brighten anyone’s day, including mine. An actual smile though- not one of those forced, no-teeth smiles you’ve been giving me.”
You glanced up at him, meeting his half-expectant, yet still kind, eyes. However, you glanced back down, shrugging. Teru stopped himself from sighing, not wanting to seem irritated (since he genuinely wasn’t, he simply wasn’t sure how else to bring up the topic) and looked back at the path ahead. Silence ensued for a few more moments, before Teru interrupted it once again.
“I really mean it, (Y/N). You have a beautiful smile… really. Braces or no braces, all they’re gonna do is help you out a bit- it’s nothing you can help. Plus, to be honest, braces are pretty cute- as if you weren’t already. I haven’t been able to see them properly, so… I’d really enjoy a proper smile, if that’s okay?”
You paused completely, your footsteps stopping as you looked up at Teru. The compliments had made your face go slightly red, but you were more focused on how the boy managed to see right through you. “How did you…?”
“Aoi told me- don’t be upset with him though, it was all for my sake.”
This time it was your turn to sigh, as you continued to walk. You spoke up, not bowing your head as low as you had before as you did so, “I’m just… feeling a little… bad about them, I guess.”
“You don’t need to. (Y/N), I promise you, you’re cute both with and without braces. You mean too much to me for me to see you any less, you know? Both… inside and out, you’re a gorgeous person.”
You looked back up at Teru and noticed the slight blush on his face as he continued to look at you. Your face continued to warm up, as the compliments clicked, making a smile threaten to show. However, you covered your face before you could grin, letting out a half-hearted “stop” as you did so.
“I could go on forever, (Y/N). And I don’t plan to stop until you show me a smile,” He teased, placing his hands on his hips as he spoke.
“It’s not that important anyway, Teru-”
“It’s important to me… (Y/N), as your friend, and as someone who… cares about you deeply, I want you to feel confident in yourself. And I especially don’t want you to feel self-conscious when I’m around.”
“It’s not your fault or anything… though I don’t understand why you care so much. Really, I-”
“You say it like I haven’t been telling you all day,” Teru spoke, this time being the one to stop walking.
“What do you mean?”
“I mean… I like you, (Y/N). So, I want you to love your smile as much as I do.”
A blush spread rapidly across your face as you opened your mouth, your brain practically short-circuiting at the sudden confession. You shut your mouth, before opening it once more.
“Oh…” You muttered, before realizing how that could sound too similar to a rejection- “I- I like you too, Teru. If… if that’s what you meant.”
Teru nodded, a sweet smile on his face that practically made your heart melt. The warm feeling in your heart made you feel a bit more nervous, yet you found yourself smiling without even realizing it. Teru’s smile only broadened as he placed a hand on the side of your face.
“There we go! And I was right, your smile is as beautiful as ever. I told you so.”

You gingerly make your way over to Hayleys bedroom, walking slowly and almost hoping that you never make it to her door, and that if you do she isn’t in there. Unfortunately for you, you make it to her door and once you knock you hear her voice come from inside. You slowly push the door open, standing in the doorway and looking to where she was sat on the edge of her bed beside Elijah.
“Sorry to interrupt.” You play with the hem of your shirt as you look over at them, “Hayley can I talk to you for a minute?” You chew on your lower lip as you wait for a reply, avoiding making eye contact.
“Of course.” She nods with a concerned look on her face, shooting a look to Elijah to signal he should leave them alone.
Elijah quickly stands up, making his way to the door, you step to the side to allow him to pass, “Is everything okay?” He asks as he stops beside you, you quickly nod your head in reply and although he looks apprehensive he decides not to question you more and walks off.
You close the door behind you and pace the room in front of Hayley, your hand against your mouth as you chew at your nails nervously. Hayley is frowning up at you but waits until you’re ready to talk about whatever you had come to her for. Your arm wraps around your waist as you take a deep breath, stopping your pacing and finally turning to face your friend.
“I don’t know what to do, Hayley.” You finally speak, tears brimming in your eyes and threatening to fall down your cheeks at any moment.
“What’s the matter?” She quickly stands up and pulls you into a hug, “Has Kol done something?”
You shake your head, quickly rubbing at your eyes in hopes of stopping the tears before they even begin, “Not exactly.” You sigh, you move to sit on her bed and she follows suit, perching beside you with concern plastered across her face.
“You’re worrying me now Y/N. What’s wrong?” Hayley questions again, hands resting against her thighs.
“I’m pregnant.” You whisper out, the whole situation suddenly feeling real now that you had spoken the words out loud, you ignore the tears sliding down your cheeks now, the shock of what you just admitted weighing you down heavily.
Hayley’s mouth opens to speak but no words come out, she looks around the room searching for the right words before giving up and instead simply asking, “Are you sure?”
You nod your head, “Unfortunately.” You laugh bitterly, “I took four tests.”
“But…How is that possible?” Hayley places her hand on your shoulder, trying to catch your eyes but you refuse to look at her, “Is it Kol’s?”
“Of course it’s Kols! What do you take me for?” You snap before a sob racks through your body, you cover your face with your hands, mumbling a feeble apology to your friend for snapping.
“It’s okay.” Hayley wraps her arms around you and pulls you against her, “We’ll figure this out together, all of us. How did this even happen?”
“I have no idea.” You sniff, “I didn’t think this was possible.”
“I think I’m living proof that anything can happen.” Hayley sighs, rubbing circles just below the back of your neck as she held you close, “You really should tell Kol.”
You nod your head in agreement, “He’s going to be so mad.” You wipe at your face and pull away from Hayley’s grip, “I don’t think I’m ready to tell him just yet. We should tell Freya, maybe she can help us figure out how this even happened. I don’t want to go to Kol full of questions he wont know the answers to.”
Hayley nods her head in agreement and offers to go find her which you accept, not trusting your legs to carry your weight right now. You sit back against your friends headboard, pulling your knees to your chest, the tears had stopped falling but your face was still red and wet.
Before long Hayley returned with Freya in tow, concern filling her features as you guessed Hayley had not told her what was wrong just that she was needed urgently. So Freya sat in front of you and you explained yourself again, her reaction more collected than you expected it to be.
“Okay.” Freya nods her head, the hair she had tucked behind her ear falling into her face, “We can figure this out. I just need to think of how.” She stands up from the bed rubbing her hands against her thighs as she thinks for a moment, “Give me an hour, I think I know how we can get some answers.” And with that she hurries from the room and Hayley took her spot on the bed in front of you, reaching her hand out and rubbing your knee comfortingly.
“We’re going to figure this out. Everything’s going to be okay.” She promises, a soft smile on her face in hopes of making you feel a little less afraid, “If all else fails, I’ll always be here for you.”
The room stays silent while you wait for Freya’s return, Elijah pokes his head back around the door to ask if anything is needed but Hayley quickly shoo’s him away, you feel bad because he only wants to help but you know you can’t tell anyone else before speaking to Kol. He would be mortified and hurt to learn his whole family knew about this before he did.
It felt like a century had passed since Freya left the room, you couldn’t help but sit and watch the second hand tick around the clock at an agonisingly slow pace, every part of the room felt so far away but too close at the same time, you were freaking out on the inside but on the outside you sat calm and still, not an ounce of your inner franticness showing.
“Do you want something to drink?” Hayley finally breaks the silence with her question, you were certain her eyes hadn’t left you this entire time.
You shake your head, but she insists you need to drink and goes off to fetch you some water. Finally gathering yourself a little more you sit up and rub the tear stains from your face, you didn’t want to look like a mess when you eventually speak to Kol. You float over to Hayley’s dresser, locating her hairbrush and running it through your knotted strands, you don’t remember if you even brushed your hair this morning, probably not.
Hayley returns with the water, passing the glass over to you, “Drink it. All of it.” She commands with a warning look, you do as she instructs and down the glass in one, placing it on her dresser and offering her the slightest hint of a smile.
You let out a sigh of relief when Freya strolls back through the bedroom door, a smile on her face, “I’ve spoken with a friend, I think I know a spell that should give us an idea of how this happened.” She informs you.
“I don’t even want to know how this works, just do it.” You instruct. Freya guides you to the bed, laying you down in the middle of it.
“I need a little of your blood.” She smiles apologetically as she holds a knife out to you, you grimace but slice lightly at the palm of your hand, allowing Freya to take whatever she needed before wrapping your hand in a cloth. “Now, just close your eyes and relax, I don’t need you to do anything.”
You nod your head, relaxing against the sheets and letting out a shaky breath, you had never been apart of a spell before and weren’t sure if you liked the thought, but if it got you the answers you needed then it was a small sacrifice you were willing to make.
Freya begins chanting above you, the same words over and over, you could feel her and Hayley hovering around the side of the bed even without being able to see them. This continues for at least a minute before Freya finally stops chanting, you slowly peak your eyes up at her, waiting for her to clarify if she got an answer or not.
“It’s not much, but I felt something.” Freya nods, “There’s magic surrounding you, Y/N. I’m not sure who, but someone made this possible, they used a spell to allow Kol to get you pregnant. Do you know anyone who would do that?”
You sit up, eyebrows furrowing as you let the new information sink in, you shake your head, “I don’t really know anyone, Freya.” You mumble, being human you only really knew your boyfriends family and those he wanted you to meet, he was very protective and wouldn't allow anyone he didn’t trust near you.
“I’m sure this has more to do with Kol than it does Y/N, I’m afraid you’ve really just been caught up in the storm that is the Mikaelson family.” Hayley sighs, her hand rubbing your shoulder lightly.
You smile lightly, a small shrug lifting your shoulders, “I guess I couldn’t avoid it,” You laugh softly, “It could be worse I suppose, I’m not dead yet.”
You let out a huff of breath, throwing your legs off the side of the bed and standing up, “I think I need to talk to Kol.” You decide, rubbing your sweaty palms against your hips nervously, “Do you know where he is?”
Both girls shake their head causing you to sigh, “We’ll ask Elijah, and if he doesn’t know where he is we can send him to go find him.” Hayley pushes you towards the door softly.
You head downstairs, Hayley and Freya in tow, Elijah is sat at the table with Klaus, both caught in a mundane conversation about god knows what.
“Have either of you seen Kol?” Hayley announces your arrival with her question, the brothers looking up from their conversation.
“What do we look like, Kol’s babysitters?” Klaus asks, raising the glass in his hand in question.
“Klaus.” Freya warns, “We really need to talk to him. Do you have any idea where he is?”
Klaus sits up, placing his glass on the table, “Why? What has my brother done now?”
“We will find him.” Elijah shoots Klaus a pointed look as he stands up, “He can’t be too far.” He begins to head to the door, a sigh falling from Klaus’ lips as he begrudgingly follows his older brother.
“We need a leash for that boy.” You hear him grumbling on his way out.
You pull a chair out from the table and flop down into it, “Is it just me that’s really nervous?” You ask looking up to your friends as you run a shaky hand through your hair, “I have no idea how he’s going to react.”
“No one ever knows how Kol’s going to react.” Hayley sighs and pulls the chair out in front of you, “But we can be there when you tell him, if you want?”
You shake your head, “I appreciate it but I think it will be better just coming from me, there might be less of a chance he will go mad?” You pose it as a question because you know Hayley’s right, no one truly ever knows how Kol will react to something.
It didn’t take long from the boys to locate their brother, Kol hurries into the room, kneeling in front of where you’re sat and grabbing for your hands, “Is everything alright, Love?” He asks, a worried expression set on his features, “Elijah said it was an emergency.”
You frown over at Elijah, you hadn’t wanted them to completely freak him out, you look back down to your boyfriend trying to muster up a smile, “Everything’s fine, Kol.” You reassure him giving his hands a soft squeeze, “I just needed to talk to you.”
“Right, okay.” Kol nods his head, “What about?” his features soften a little as he lets the initial worry leave his body.
“Can we go somewhere a little more private?” You quirk your brow, looking up at the four extra people stood around the room watching.
“Of course.” Kol stands up, pulling you up by your hand and leading you from the dining room and up the stairs towards your shared bedroom, “You’re really worrying me Y/N, what’s the matter?”
You remain quiet until you’re both inside the bedroom, shutting the door behind you you turn to face him, letting out the breath you hadn’t realised you had been holding.
“First I need you to make me a promise, Kol.” You place your hands against his biceps and look up into his concerned eyes, “Promise me you wont get mad.”
“Get mad? Y/N, what’s happened?” Kol pushes, he reaches up and places his hands on top of yours.
You sigh, looking away from his face, you couldn’t think of a way to ease the conversation in so you decided to just say it, get it over and done with like ripping off a bandaid.
“I’m pregnant.” you say, eyes glued to the floor, you wait for him to reply but after a few seconds of quiet you peak up at him. Kol is stood, mouth slightly open as he stares at you intensely, you could see the cogs turning in his brain as he took the information in and processed it.
Finally Kol reacted, he drops your hands and takes a step back, his head moving from side to side, “That’s not possible.” He states.
“That’s what I thought, but Freya said-“ Kol cuts you off with a glare.
“You’ve been with someone else?” He accuses you, anger spreading across his face like a wave during a storm, “That’s the only explanation!”
You shake your head quickly, reaching for Kol but he pulls away, “I can’t believe you!”
“Kol, please!” You beg reaching for him again, “It’s not like that! Freya said it’s magic!” You grasp onto his arm but every time you make purchase on it he pulls away, stepping further and further back into the room away from you.
“No.” Kol states, refusing to listen to your explanations, “No, it can’t be.”
“Kol, please.” You grab his arm, this time he didn’t escape, “I’m telling the truth. Freya said it has something to do with magic, like a curse or something, I don’t even know I don’t fully understand.”
Kol falls down onto the edge of the bed, you follow suit and sit beside him, reaching for the hand on his knee and holding it tight, “Kol, do you believe me?”
Kol doesn’t answer, he’s staring intently at the floor in front of him, his lips moving slightly but no noise was coming from them, you squeeze his hand again and finally he looks up at you.
“Do you believe me?” You asks, your eyes watering up for what felt like the hundredth time today, you didn’t think you had any tears left in you but it seems you were wrong.
“You’re sure?” Kol asks, eyes boring into yours as if he were daring you to be lying to him.
You nod you head, “Four tests kind of sure.” you sigh. Kol turns away again, you want to say something but know you need to give him time to process, he would speak again when he’s ready.
It didn’t take Kol half as long to take in the information as it had yourself, he turns to you, eyes searching your face for a moment before he speaks, “I’m going to be a father?”
You give him a soft smile and nod, “So it seems. Your family is just full of miracle babies.”
Kol nods his head, the confusion furrowing his brows slowly lifting, instead a smile begins to form on his face, “A father…I don’t know how good I will be at that.” He laughs almost bitterly.
“You will be amazing.” You reach your hand up and rub it up and down his tense back.
“I really don’t think I will.” Kol looks over to you slowly, “I’m not ready for this. I’ve only just come to terms with letting you in, now there’s something else I could possibly loose?” he shakes his head, “I can’t do it, what would I do if anything ever happens to you or the baby? How could I live with myself?”
You shift positions, moving to straddle Kols lap and cup his face in your hands, “Listen to me,” You lean your forehead down against his, “You will be amazing.” You repeat yourself, “You will be kind, and caring and the most amazing father to our child. Nothing will ever happen to either of us.” You promise him.
“What if I can’t look after you?” Kol asks, closing his eyes as he rests his head softly against yours.
“You always look after me.” You whisper, “And if for some reason you aren’t there, Elijah will, or Klaus, or Hayley. I have a whole lot of people able to protect me.” You laugh softly.
Kol smiles up at you, nodding his head softly, “Promise me you wont get into any trouble?”
“When do I ever get into trouble?” You reply, to which Kol simply raises his eyebrow at you, “Alright, fine, I promise I wont get into any trouble, ever again.” You lean down and kiss his lips softly.
“We should celebrate, but first I want to find the bastard that cursed you.” He stands up with your legs still wrapped around him, carrying you out of the room and only putting you down once you reach the stairs.
Once downstairs Freya paces in front of you and Kol as you sit at the table, “What do you mean you can’t find who did this?” Kol asks in angry disbelief.
“I mean it’s not that simple.” Freya sighs, “I can sense the magic, but I don’t know who it came from. Are there any witches currently pissed off at you?”
Kols eyes widen and he nods his head slowly, “Yes. Yes there are many many witches currently pissed off at me.” He admits, “When aren’t there?”
“Yes, that was a stupid question.” Freya groans, rubbing her fingers through the short hair.
“Well, that’s that then.” Klaus stands up matter of factly, “We’ll just have to get rid of them all.”
Hayley rolls her eyes and Elijah shoots him a disdainful look, “Yes, good idea Niklaus, we’ll just kill all the witches Kol has ever wronged and infuriate the rest of them while we’re at it.”
“You say the rest of them like Kol hasn’t pissed off every witch in New Orleans.” Hayley groans.
“I am sat here you know.” Kol complains, “And I haven’t pissed off every witch in New Orleans, just a very large amount of them.”
“Look, this isn’t getting us anywhere.” Freya cuts in, “We need to narrow it down, has anything happened this week, Kol?” She turns to her brother.
Kol shrugs his shoulders, “I don’t know.” He groans letting his head drop back, “I don’t think I’ve fallen out with any witches this week, it’s only Wednesday.”
“How about,” Elijah stands up, smoothing his suit jacket down as he did, “Me and Niklaus take a trip to the cemetery and ask some questions?”
Klaus joins his brother standing up, “That seems to be our only option.” He agrees.
“Wait, I’m coming with you.” Kol makes to stand up but Klaus pushes him back down with his shoulder.
“I think you should stay here.” Klaus shoots him a warning look, nodding in your direction in a hinting manner.
Kol sighs but settles back into his chair, “We’ll take Rebekah with us.” Klaus announces as he and Elijah leave the room. You watch as they leave, sitting in the silent room for a moment before rising from your chair. Kol is instantly on his feet beside you, reaching out to take a hold of your arm.
“I’m just going to lay down.” You inform him, placing your hand gently over his, “Today is wearing me out.”
“I’ll come with you.” Kol states, not leaving room for you to argue even if you had wanted to.
Once back upstairs you lay down on the bed, leaving room next to you for Kol to occupy, he slides his arms around your waist and pulls you into his side, resting his face against the top of your head as you relax into him, feeling safe for the first time today wrapped in his strong arms.
“Do you think I’ll be a good mum?” You ask softly against his chest, closing your eyes when you feel his hand reach up to play with your hair.
“I think you’ll be the best mum to our child.” Kol presses a kiss to the top of your head, “You have nothing to worry about there, love.”
You slowly drift off to sleep in his arms, your dreams full of shouting and curses and anxiety, you toss and turn as you sleep and Kol keeps his arms pressed tight around you, doing his best to calm you while you slept. His mind still racing at the thought of being a father. He was impulsive and rash and he knew with a child in the picture he needed to change the way he was, he was scared he wouldn’t be able to change and would only cause more problems for you.
When you finally wake it is dark and Kol is nowhere to be seen, you stretch and push your hair out of your face, slowly crawling out of the bed and making your way across the room. Once you reach the hallway you hear raised voices, you tiptoe down the stairs, Elijah and Hayley come into view first, then Kol stood in the middle of everyone shouting and throwing his arms around in typical Kol fashion.
“Just let me fucking go there!” Kol shouts, squaring up to Klaus but his brother simply pushes him back.
“We can’t just barge in there and kill her in front of the whole coven, that will simply make a mess of things.” Elijah walks around the group of people slowly, deep in thought trying to come up with a plan, “We need some way to draw her out, make it look like an accident.”
“I don't care if it looks like an accident.” Kol scoffs, getting irritated with his families lack of proactiveness in getting the situation sorted, “I just want her dead.”
“We all do Kol.” Elijah turns to glare at him, “But do you not think we’re the first people they will suspect? What do you think they would do to Y/N and the baby if they find out we killed her?”
Kol glares back at Elijah but stays quiet, knowing he didn’t have an argument for that.
“Y/N.” Rebekah is the first to notice your arrival, the previous conversation coming to an abrupt end, “Are you feeling better?” She asks.
You nod your head, “Much.” You reply making your way through the group to Kol and taking his hand in yours, “You found some answers then?”
Klaus nods his head, “We did.” He shoots a deathly look to Kol, “It would seem Kol murdered the daughter of one of the coven leaders. My guess is she made you get pregnant so she could then do the same to him. We can’t let that happen.”
You hand instinctively moves to your stomach, wanting to protect the child that hadn’t even been born yet from harm, you had only found out this morning but now you couldn’t imagine your life without it, you couldn’t live with yourself if anything happened to it.
“That’s why you should let me go kill her!” Kol demands, hand squeezing yours protectively.
“No, Elijah’s right.” Rebekah steps forward, “We need to lure her out. We need someone she thinks she can trust, another witch.”
“Don’t look at me.” Freya holds her hands up and shakes her head, “I burned my bridges with that coven a long time ago.”
“No, Davina.” Rebekah announces.
You hear Klaus groan beside you, dropping his head back as he looks up at the ceiling, “Davina isn’t going to help this family.” He drawls out, “In case you forgot she kind of hates us.”
“No, she hates you.” Rebekah states, “And if she doesn’t want to help us we will just have to find a way to force her.”
“Me and Rebekah will go talk to her.” Hayley states.
“We’ll keep an eye on the witches.” Elijah decides, pulling Klaus along with him, “Make sure they’re not up to something else.”
Kol quickly makes to follow them, “I’m coming.” He leans down, pressing a soft kiss to your forehead and promising to be back soon before he follows his brothers from the room.
“Well can’t I come and do something to help?” You ask with a sigh, “I feel useless just sat here.”
“Absolutely not.” Rebekah states with finality in her voice, “Kol would murder us if we took you with us and something happened and I’m not in the mood to get murdered today.”
You sigh but don’t bother arguing as you know she has a point, Kol would loose it if anything happened to you and even if nothing did happen to you he’d still loose it at you for putting yourself in a situation where something could of happened.
“I guess I’ll just sit around here then.” you watch Rebekah and Hayley leave the compound, leaving just yourself and Freya behind.
The night was long and unbearable. You weren’t tired thanks to your nap earlier so you couldn’t get to sleep and you were constantly checking your phone for the time, worrying more and more the later it got. You couldn’t find anything to occupy your mind, too busying thinking the worst, what if something happened to any of them? And it would all be because of you, you couldn’t live with that.
It wasn’t until the early hours of the morning that the group returned, most of them with specs of blood littering their clothes and faces, you run quickly towards them, throwing yourself into Kols arms hugging him tightly and never wanting to let go.
“What happened?” You asks hurriedly, “You’ve been gone for so long, I thought something had happened.”
You pull back from the hug, looking up into Kol’s eyes and swiping a piece of hair off of his face, “It doesn’t matter what happened, we’ve dealt with it.” He reaches up to stroke your cheek softly, “No one else is going to try to hurt you love, or the baby.”
You place your hand on top of Kols, running your finger over his knuckles lightly. He was always the same, he would never tell you the grisly details of things that he or his family had done, wanting to save you the trauma, but you trusted him and his family, if they say something has been sorted then you knew it had been.
“I was so worried.” You sigh, burying your head back into Kols chest and wrapping your arms around his waist. Kol’s arms wrap around your shoulders, pulling you as close to him as he possibly could, resting his cheek against the top of your head he promises nothing will ever happen to him or you.
You make your way upstairs, climbing into the bed and waiting for Kol to be done in the shower and come to join you, your hand strokes at your stomach lightly, images of a baby and then a toddler running through your head. You knew life was going to change tremendously from now, but you were excited for it. If anyone had of asked if you and Kol wanted a baby both of you would have said no, not a chance, but now you couldn’t help but feel ecstatic about the thought of the little life growing inside of you, and you were equally excited to see Kol be a father, even with his doubts you knew he would be amazing, you could just tell.
“Lost in thought?” Kol asks as he appears at the side of the bed, he pulls the covers back and climbs in beside you.
“Just thinking about us.” You smile and roll onto your side, laying your head on the pillow beside his, “About our life.”
Kol reaches over, his hand running softly through your hair, “We’re in this together, I promise. And I have no doubts you will be amazing.”
You smile and lean over, pressing a soft kiss to his lips as your hand rests against his chest, “We both are.” You reassure him.
Kol just smiles in reply and pulls your head down onto his chest, fingers continuing to stroke through your strands, talking to you about nothing in particular so you could drift off to the sound of his voice. You feel his hand move from your hair and rest against your stomach, rubbing slow circles against it, you smile against his chest, finally falling asleep feeling safe and protected in his arms.

pairing: Ten x Female Reader (Fluff)
words: 1.9k
warnings: might be disgustingly cute idk.
A/N: Gigil is a word used to describe the overwhelming feeling that comes over us when we see something cute.
Tumblr media
At 1 am, with bare minimum noises in the background, save for a stray car zooming away in the distance and a blanket of stars overhead, Ten walked back to his apartment; feet dragging on the pavement, as they traced his displeasure along the way.
For the third night in a row he’d had to stay overtime at office, simply because someone else had been too lazy to finish their portion of work assigned to them.
Had it been any other day, he would have pulled through without feeling this level of annoyance. Any other week, he would not have complained; he liked working alone, when no one was around to disturb him and ask him stupid questions. But the fact that this was happening during the few days your schedule wasn’t as tight knit as usual, was really testing his patience.
He’d thought long and hard on whether he was being too dramatic about it, because it wasn’t like he never got to see you—your off days always had his name written on them—it was just that off-late he’d been wanting to see a lot more of you.
For him, dating you had started as a breezy ‘hmm I’ll see where this takes me, I’m not looking for anything serious’, but had quickly and quite irreversibly morphed into an intense whirlwind of ‘fuck, I might love her’ and at the end of six months it had rendered him dizzy.
He didn’t know when exactly he’d started to crave more of your attention, but on days it overpowered his entire existence. He wasn't yet used to the out of the blue pangs of wanting to hug you until you fell asleep in his arms, but he loved the warm and fuzzy feeling thoughts like these left him with.
On most days he could prioritise his work over his neediness for you. Today though? Today had been one of those days, where it had served as a roadblock between what he had to do and what he really wanted to do. Instead of being in bed, cuddled with you, watching a cute coming of age movie, he had to stay back and redraw the anatomy for a new character because some of his peers were incompetent.
Half an hour of brooding and a long silent walk later, he finally reached his building. On his last call you had already been yawning, so he assumed you were fast asleep and entered the apartment as quietly as he possibly could… only to find you lying on the floor.
His heart dropped down to his stomach as the worst, most horrible thoughts of you being injured and unconscious and him being too late in taking you to the hospital clouded his mind.
His panic lasted only about 30 seconds though, until he switched on the lights and it unravelled a completely different story.
You were passed out on the floor alright, but because you’d fallen asleep cuddling with his cat. He didn’t see the cat because your back was facing the entrance. Louis had fit himself comfortably in the crevice of your concave form, lying curled up, snug next to your stomach and was using your arm as a pillow.
Ten’s heartbeat slowed down with the realisation that you were indeed alive and okay and he breathed in a sigh of relief, giggling fondly at the sight of you two sleeping so peacefully; completely unaware of his presence.
He was kinda jealous of Louis, which was an insane thought, but he wanted in on what looked like a super cozy cuddle session.
Of course, he had to grab his phone and take some pictures first—how could he pass off this opportunity to stock up on some free serotonin. But as soon as he was done taking photos from every angle, he sat on the floor next to you, your back towards him, and rested his chin on your waist. It was a challenge to not kiss the sliver of skin peeking through, from between your shirt and boxers and an even bigger challenge to not wake you up.
He extended an arm to pet Louis, but the cat wasn’t having any of it.
Within minutes Louis was out of sight and reach and it was just the two of you, on the cold floor. With no cat to disturb, his attention naturally wandered over to you. It was too tempting to not kiss your bare skin. Your hands were tucked under your head, like a makeshift pillow; sooner than later you were bound to get uncomfortable—it only made sense to wake you up. It was definitely not because you looked too cute and he couldn’t stand not being able to squish you.
“Baby” he whispered softly, “Wake up.”
You stirred at the sound of his voice, pushing your body towards him, but not really moving.
He had the widest grin plastered on his face, just looking at you. “Let’s go to bed, you’re sleeping on the floor.”
You hummed in response, too lethargic to actually move and also just a scat annoyed.
When he stroked your cheek, you shivered under his touch, goosebumps forming all over your body. His touch was electric.
Feeling a bit smug about the reaction he just elicited out of you, he pulled your shirt up, just enough to expose your waist, and planted soft kisses alongside your ribs.
You squirmed with every kiss, until you were wide awake and sitting upright, fighting him off.
“Why why why” he giggled, as you pushed him away.
“Why!! Look at the tiiime.” You whined, not letting him have his way for the 800th time.
His face fell, “I know baby, I’m sorry. If it makes you feel better, I was really sulky the whole time I was there and not here.”
“No, that does not make me feel better.” You replied, “I don’t want you to sulk when you’re working.”
“Ayee you can’t have both.”
“Both what?”
“Be mad at me and not let me be mad at my work.”
“I’m not mad at you.” You pouted, crawling into his lap, “I just really missed you.”
There was something so soothing about your presence, something he couldn’t really explain. He held you tight and buried his head in the crook of your neck, taking in the faint vanilla-esque scent you naturally emanated.
“I missed you too, baby.”
You ran your fingers through his brownish-blonde hair, your heart skipping beats every time you felt his hot breath on your skin. You weren’t one to feel ticklish easily at all, except for under his touch. It was a phenomenon that perplexed you too. So when he slipped his hand under your shirt, to feel your skin, you shivered again.
He raised his head and gave you a knowing, smug smile.
God he was so infuriating with how attractive he looked when he smiled like that.
“You’re lucky you’re this cute.”
He grinned even wider. “Oh? What’s that? You think I’m cute?”
“Yeah, I think you’re very cute. What of it?”
The cutest laugh escaped his lips and he cupped your face, “I think you’re cuter, now please kiss me.”
He puckered his lips and in anticipation, closed his eyes, deliberately acting like a cringey young adult rom-com hero, but two could play that game, right?
You pecked him on his cheek instead.
His dramatic reaction sent you into a fit of laughter and the whole time you were trying to contain yourself, he was gazing at you as if nothing else existed in his world, with the goofiest, most endearing smile on his face.
He’d never told you he loved you—even though it’s all he’d thought about the past couple of days—partly because he was scared and partly because he didn’t want to scare you away.
But the way you made his whole being melt into a mush of happiness, made him not want to hold it in anymore.
“Hey,” he interrupted your hysterics in a serious tone, causing you to stop and look at him. You couldn’t match the intensity in his eyes, but it sparked a wildfire at the pit of your stomach.
“I love you”
Did you hear that right? Did he say he loved you?
“You what?”
“I love you.”
You beamed ecstatically. “Good, ‘cuz I love you too.”
“Oh thank god” he exhaled in relief, but before he could finish that sentence you had him caught up in a long, sweet kiss that knocked the wind out of his lungs.
In the dead of the night, you could only hear his soft moans as you bit and sucked on his lower lip. His hands wandered all over your body, grabbing and teasing you, while you focused on how he tasted like liquor and chocolate, without having any.
Everything about him was intoxicating.
“Let’s go in”, he signalled towards his room, when you finally parted away from him.
You looked delectable with your messy hair and slightly swollen lips. Ten wanted to devour you.
“Ohhhhh Mr. Lee why do you want to take me into your bedroom at 2:30 AM.. What are your intentions?”
“To show you how much I love you.” he seduced, “Will you let me?”
“I’ll let you do whatever you want, baby” you replied, getting up and holding your hand out to help him.
“I wonder what good deeds I did to have found you in my life.”
You rolled your eyes as you walked towards his room. “And I wonder the exact opposite.”
He gasped. “Is that how it is huh? I guess you’ll never find out how much I love you then.”
“Aww.” You chuckled, closing the distance between you, “It’s okay, I can show you right here how much I love you instead?”
“No, I can feel Louis looking at us and I’m not about to traumatise my son. So, I’m gonna give him some treats and be right in.”
“Fifteen minutes or I’m going to sleep.”
“I’ll take five.”
“You and I both know you need at least fifteen minutes with Louis.”
How does this woman know me so well, he thought to himself walking over to where his cat was perched.
“What do you think, Louis? Did I do the right thing” Ten whispered, nuzzling his nose in the fluffy fur.
Louis meowed.
“Yeah, I think so too. She’s really great isn’t she.”
Louis meowed again, making him chuckle.
While pouring some dry food in the bowl for his cat he realised he actually hadn’t eaten anything since afternoon, yet he felt full… full of this happiness and a kind of contentment that he’d never experienced before. He cringed at this disgustingly sappy thought and made his way back to you, into the bedroom.
You were sprawled on the bed, already asleep, not even having managed to get under the blanket.
“So cute”, he fondly murmured, as he got in bed too and encompassed you completely in a hug—his arms now wrapped around your waist and one leg overlapping both of yours.
You stirred, but he pulled you in closer,
“It’s okay, go back to sleep baby.”
He heard a little affirmative hum and you turned around to face him—eyes half closed—to give him a tiny peck on his lips and then hid your face in his chest.
You started falling back into your world of dreams and he fell right in with you, following you through a field of daisies, admiring your beauty as the sun glowed on your face; just like he would if you were awake. And tell you a thousand times over how beautiful he thought you were and love you and kiss you until you fell right back into his arms at the end of every night.
There was something so sweet about that feeling, it made you smile and you thought yeah… it seemed like a good way to spend the rest of your life.

Gossip Girl, EP. 4 Reaction & Review
Finally, I've gathered all of my thoughts for ep. 4! I had this really cool extra post to the intro and had more thoughts but then I lost the entire thing so I had to re-write the entire post SO, yeah, this is all I have for this part. Also, if anyone has those bts photos please let me know, i’m looking for the ones that have the audience reacting to max’s dick pick from the fashion show, aki biting his lip. please send.
ADULTS:
Kate & CO: JAIL JAIL JAIL. We had that one teacher being turned on by incest and ruining kids lives. DO BETTER IN JAIL. I'll say tho, the male teacher makes a better gossip girl, he doesn't feel bad and is enjoying it. Kate could never.
Rafa: JAIL. JAIL. JAIL. JAIL. JAIL. I WAS ROOTING FOR YOU, WE WERE ALL ROOTING FOR YOU. I hate that they showed us this man having common sense. This man, pushing Max away sexually but understanding that he needs serious help. I hate that they just didn't have them flirting and show us him saying no, I'm so upset. I'm even more upset that I fell for him being the character to subvert the trope. I can only blame myself but blame HBO as well. I also hate the comments saying it's okay or well, the show needs scandal and spice. They could've been photographed together in normal clothes, just standing next to each other. Max could lie to GG. There are a bunch of ways these could become an IC scandal without having them cross the line. If you support this, you need help.
OUR KIDS:
Max: My boy needs therapy, lots of it. Maybe rehab. On one hand, he's being taken advantage of because he's clearly going through something and more than just his dads and he has been for a while. His escapism is dangerous and anyone would be able to prey on that. On the other hand, I need someone to beat his ass. His lines to Rafa about money and career were punch worthy and out-right willing to lie about Rafa doing something to him, even just to press Rafa's buttons. He needs help, he needs to be taught boundaries, he needs a lot. And why were the only two people concerned for his week-long disappearance Aki and Audrey, the whole squad should've had the guns out, friends since childhood, sure.
Obie: My boy, I get that you didn't like where you saw Zoya headed. I get that in some aspects you were right about her being a little too involved and suspecting Julien. That being said, she was having real problems and troubles and needed support. Do better. Obie still isn't the worst character on the show and many of them are SOOOO much worse. He doesn't deserve the all of the smoke he's been getting when their are better people for it.
Monet & Luna: I hate them as people and love them as characters that move the plot. I guess I could see how they thought the fuck school thing was horrible (and Julien too since she planned on showing Obie). The directors cut, I don't think they thought it'd ruin Zoya, they're just fucking cruel and found it funny. Let's box. Also, why are ya'll so pressed over this CHILD. Like get over it, find a real up-coming social media star.
Aki & Audrey: My good sis, you brought a gay man to make Aki jealous. I'm sick, it was fucking funny. Her comments at first were off the wall, I wish the writers would've done something else but a lot of woman don't see it as normal so I sort of get it. I'm glad she came around by the end. And Aki...he was a little spicy this episode, my boy was ready to pop off a bit AND I AM HERE FOR IT. My dude said, 'I don't regret kissing him' I was THROWN. Aki being with Audrey helps me like her more because she's a bitch that's still ready to gun for a now 15 year old girl but her and Aki's relationship is cute. They could break up and be fine which is great, I love that their relationship is really more than just dating and the friendship is strong. I'm here for it.
Zoya: It's just bad writing but my head canon is trauma. Trauma from her moms death death, trauma from the past and current bullying that caused her lash out. I felt like this was her breaking point (so far) and anything gossip girl related as always came around to Julien. If she trusted Julien more, she wouldn't have thought of her as the person causing her issue's but she doesn't trust her. They were civil but even at the end of ep 2. Her 'hell yeah' to Julien about bonding was too dry, too dry. I think a big part of her just doesn't trust Julien and she'll always think the worse because she's seen mostly the worse. And that video, horrible, I'd hate everything about my birthday too after that and even before. Her emotions during the scene and the talk with Julien, ouch. And while I'm happy that Zoya found herself in the end, YES GIRL POP OFF. THIS IS WHAT I WANTED. THIS IS THE FLAVOR. I WAS WAITING FOR THIS AND I WANT MORE. I DEMAND MORE. I SEE A SPARK OF A BITCH, LET HER OUT GO, GO ALISON DELAOTRUINES ON THESE BITCHES.
Julien: Once again, I love Julien as a character, I know she's supposed to be struggling and for that, It's fun to watch her BUT. Julien could never be on my team, she's too wishy-washy. That is my issue, she's too, just...flip-floppy with no substance. Like, when she does things wrong, they're expected  to be forgiven / are forgiven without true reflection or anything on her part. She fucks up, she see's its wrong and then she says sorry and goes on it does it again. This episode was just the worst example, like, the moment she heard buffalo, she was ready to send in a tip. Instead of just doing the party normally and being best because she's hear, she sends the video to Monet. She believes Luna and Monet (Monet talking about her throne being taken when Zoya isn't even an influencer) and she eats it up. They were the ones who did the dick pick thing, like girl, THINK. And why does she never get the full plan, why would she not watch the video or why is she so shocked that Luna and Monet would play something like that? She knows them. Friends since childhood? Sure. Using your moms name to make the party about charity? SIS, THE FEUD IS NOT WORTH IT. She says she wants to be sisters but then she switches up so fast and the witches up again, it's whip-last and I'm sick. I hate that she's doing this to her and I hate even more that's is the writers fault. I don't mind a character having personal conflict but make it a conflict. Like after four episodes, why is she still friends with her sisters bullies? At the end of the episode, she says she's gonna tell them to lay down their weapons, NO, shut it down. correct them. make it clear and make it known. I love my girl because she's flawed but I wish they'd linger on things and have her really think about it. I was fine with the i'm sorry speech up until the camera part.
Other random thoughts
fuck the rafa max thing again, i'm not over, i will never be over it
evan mock isn't the best but he does give me face at times, his 'wtf stare', little sly looks, the 'wtf' moment when audrey first asked him if he was gay like 'this bitch' also, give him more annoyed, irritated scenes, he gives in those
have julien go full nice or full evil for a while, pick a side and stick with it for more than one episode
i wish zoya was a bitch at her old school but i'm fine with this too, it explains why she was so reactionary when it came to the bullying at constance, not again!
i wish we could've seen julien talk with davis after that stunt
nick and davis, KISS, the ride scene was 100%
don't talk about obie so soon
i like that she chose to be with julien for the night, it was cute
emily makes these faces that i can't get with
eli brown is a good actor, that shot of him during the traumatic reveal
i will say, zobie might be boring but when they talk, they talk, their communication is p good, i don't hate it
i’d be here for obie x aki bc they’re friends, they got chemistry, aki was giving look lil up and downs this episode, aki was giving a lot of looks this ep, honestly, idk i just don’t want him heart broken
aki menzies is still my comfort character
i couldn't take rafa serious with his ass out,
whitney's acting in that talk scene, perfect, my girl had me in tears because DAMN
jordan is pretty good but in that scene, go girl, give me nothing
fuck max and rafa
max lied about his dads or at least one, AT LEAST one, i don't think they'd do that, he saw his in and took it
aki and aud, just have that open relationship, ya'll will make it, the way he tucked into her, it was so sweet
davi and nick secret relationship plot
jail for all of the teachers, once again
the hallway scene was great, the cinematography is been clutch overall
music wasn't as jarring
that's about it! i have more thoughts on the show overall that might be another post, they have a lot of amazing ideas but they need to stick with one and flush it out is the overall gist, i'm still into it!
can't wait for five bc i love the angst that's about to hit.

So I read 86 LN vol 1
S1 anime covers the entire Vol 1 except for the latter's epilogue, so full anime spoiler here.
And as of this writing, I'm still on Vol 2 so the things I mention here are solely those that happen in Vol 1. Idk if a thing happens in the latter volume, gotta dodge spoiler so I don't browse about it.
There was an interview with a person inside the anime industry that basically said "The point of an anime adaptation is not to be an exact replica of the original material, but to shine as its own medium for a story." I forgot who it was and I can't find the interview anywhere for the life of me, but that statement opened my eyes. I agree with it, that's why I can appreciate the differences between LN/manga and anime, especially if they turn out good and/or interesting.
And that's exactly what happens in 86. I'll start with this: I watched the anime first, and after I read the Vol1 novel, I actually like the anime more. Because there are a lot of meaningful original scenes in it
And because the Vol1 novel turns out exactly what I fear when I first watched the anime: that I won't care much about the squadron aside from the main 5. (Look, the anime promotional materials mostly only have Lena and those 5 only. As shocked as I was in the anime, I did have an idea where the story would go from those alone). The rest are barely mentioned. Not even the girls are named in the novel, even though they do talk and Lecca is even prominent in anime.
For example, the second half of the first episode, the one that shows Spearhead squadron's daily life right before Lena contacts them, is anime original scenes. Kujo already dies the moment the novel starts focusing on the squadron. Simply put, a lot of the squadron members that aren't the main 5 or Kaie get a *lot* more focus in the anime, like Daiya, Haruto (For characters who appear on the introduction page, their novel screen time is less than I'd expect), Kujo and Lecca. While the other members often appear in the background and actually behave like equal members instead of glue-them-on figurines.
(Idk if those other members are named and/or designed in the light novel before the anime is a thing or when the anime becomes a thing.)
The anime also adds relevant information in the Raiden's talk with Lena in EP7, like Kaie receiving racial abuse from 86 (in fact in both versions, she is the first one to get highlighted about this) and Haruto also having prominent Giadian Empire blood like Anju and Shin. These weren't in the novel.
I might be just nitpicking here because I love Kaie and Haruto, but see, this scene is amazing on its own. This is where Raiden and the squad reveal the weight of their motivation all along, that they *each* have different backgrounds and different kinds of sufferings, yet they are all sentenced to die, and they all choose to fight because they know no side is saintly but some things are still worth fighting for.
The prominent characters' deaths (besides Kaie's) are often mentioned with only one or two dry lines. I expected at least Daiya's to be detailed more, but it's just that so matter-of-fact-ly. Well I came from the anime, so I guess it's normal if I expected something as heartbreaking.
I broke down HARD at the last half of EP10 and that is nowhere in the Vol 1 novel. (Having Hands Up to the Sky playing in the background is also an advantage for being an anime. Fuck that song, I now play it 24/7 in despair)
Having a lot of original anime scenes really complement the story's nature. That there are two different sides of life here, it's not just Lena's or 86's only. And those couldn't have intertwined if not for their willingness to listen and communicate.
I know I mentioned this some days ago but really, I can't get over how many of the merch are Lena (and Annette) being cute doing cute stuff while the story itself is actually depressing. Merch staffs know the market lol.
- Novel side -
That said, the novel does have an advantage that the anime/visual media doesn't: Internal explorations and explanations.
It's obvious from the get-go, but Asato confirms that the inspiration of Republic of San Magnolia and its racial discrimination and genocide is taken from Nazi Germany in WW2. The Republic who favors the white/silver haired-eyed Alba drives Colorata out of the 85 sectors, overtakes their properties, and forcibly sends the now-called-86 to either fight their war and die, or work on the wall and die.
The life inside the Republic is also elaborated on. Class always exists, even inside one race only. The center of the republic is for the elites, Lena and Annette's families included. The farther a sector is from the center, the lower the education and economy there is. Most of the military come from these areas, which explains why Lena herself is in difficult situation. Since no one in the military is either capable or willing to bring change.
It's *insane* how easily the Republic could create such vile lies, and how easily the majority of the citizens go along with it.
Gotta admit, Asato does a good job at foreshadowing the fate of the 86, the truth that we can only see after Ep7 of anime. It is mentioned that supposedly, 86 soldiers will be welcomed back once their 5-years term is up. Lena once wonders about it, but ultimately she buys it thinking that surely they must have come back to another sector. She only realizes it's utter bullshit after Annette points out how, 9 years later, they have never seen even one Colorata inside the Republic when they should have seen at least some. This also shows that Lena has never ventured to the other sectors to find out more, probably due to work or maybe she's still a sheltered noblewoman in the end.
And the mentality of the majority of Alba is shown differently. Whereas the anime uses the academy classroom to show how deeply rooted the racism against 86 is, the novel uses Lena's mother who a) more or less does the same as the classroom, and b) presses Lena to get married and preserve their pure noble bloodline. This, when the nobility doesn't actually mean anything anymore. This version shows not only Alba's racism but also Lena's strained family life.
There is a scene of an Alba high school valedictorian who, during his graduating speech, says “My friends died fighting the Legion.” I’m not sure this will make it to the anime, and it’s just a minor scene in the novel, but the weight of that scene is heavy.
The science of Para-Raid is explained, which has something to do with tapping the collective consciousness of humanity and connecting it to one another. A bit far-etched but I guess that works, science fiction and all. But I like the part where despite (or maybe because?) of connecting via hearing only, the other senses are faintly receptive as well. For example, one can sense that the other side is biting their lips in frustration, something like that. Of course, actual real life things like sensing the hidden bitterness or elation in a talking partner's words are present, this being a story where listening matters.
The novel elaborates on Raiden's stay with the Alba old woman. He calls her Old Hag, but it's clear he greatly respects her. The part where she screams and curses in the middle of the road at the Republic soldiers who take Raiden and the other children away stays in Raiden's mind forever, and so it does to me. Ngl it is quite a chilling scene.
Same with the story of the previous Laughing Fox, Theo's Alba commander. It turns out, the entirety of Theo's first squadron didn't like him at all and bet on how fast he'd tuck tail and run back to the Republic. When he faced his death the way Theo explained, he sent a message to Theo revealing he knew about it and knew his place to not ask for acknowledgment or forgiveness. This made Theo regret why he didn't try to talk more with his commander and he keeps thinking about it forever. Now it makes even more sense why Theo, blunt as he is, is willing to listen to Lena and when he snaps, he wonders if his late commander would do the same.
What actually happens in Kurena's backstory is also touched upon. While in the anime some viewers could think "Man, I get where you're coming from but chill out." The novel graphically shows her parents being toyed on by the Alba soldiers while her sister protected her, the two could only watch, and then the same sister got sent to the battlefield to die. Now at that, anyone would think "Man, no wonder she can't chill out. Not with all that trauma."
I also like the addition that Lena can sense Kurena is the one who dislikes her the most.
The novel describes greatly that it isn't just Alba and Non-Alba. Essentially speaking, Non-Alba is called Colorata, and they consist of different race groups as well. Just as Alba is associated with the color silver/white, the other race have their associated colors as well. Asato assigns races to the named members in Vol1 and what their distinguished color features are. This also explains why Anju is exiled despite looking like an Alba.
It's a question that I pondered on when I first saw Shin's armor plates, and that I pondered harder on when Chise died: What happens if there is no armor plate to carve its processor's name's on? So it turns out Shin would substitute it with anything; piece of wood or some random piece of metal. For Chise's case, Raiden, Chise's leader, suggested using the wing of Chise's in-progress airplane model. Which did my heart so bad because I'm strangely fond of Chise and finding out that in his spare time in his limited lifespan, he was working on an airplane model made me sob.
I'm not particularly into mecha, and could care less about how it moves. But Asato did a good job describing the fight between a glorified suicide car and a line of brand-new solid A-grade tanks. Special mention to I-IV because wow the concept arts for all the mechas are so cool, even though I don't really understand. (Asato even said to I-IV "Go draw a tank so horrible it's stupid for the Juggernaut" and I-IV came up with the current Juggernaut)
You know how the Republic greeting is "Glory to San Magnolia and the five-colored flag"? I won't disclose who says this in what situation, but there is someone of Colorata saying "If you hate colors so much, you should have just colored your flag white" AND OOOH THE BURN SO HOT HOT HOT
Tl;dr: Bottom line is, I personally enjoy Vol 1 because I already watched the anime and got attached to it. If I were to read the vol 1 first, most likely I wouldn't fall this hard for the series. Hell, maybe I wouldn't even pick it up in the first place because I knew it'd be depressing. But this is not to say that the LN is bad. It’s very good, it just does not really touch the lives of other soldiers whereas that’s the very thing that I love from the anime.

Maybe it does all add up to a single hush (Kanan Jarrus/Cal Kestis)
Summary: 15 years after the Fall, 10 years after the death of Caleb Dume, Kanan Jarrus and Cal Kestis find each other again.
Warnings: Jedi: Fallen Order Spoilers, Implied/Referenced Character Death, cursing, brief suicidal ideation/thoughts Word Count: 5,143
Author’s Note: the effort I had to put in not to make this another series...I had to stage an intervention for myself. Anyway, I love Cal and Kanan’s dynamic, whether as partners or as friends, and an Idea struck me that wouldn’t leave. Also, idk how old most people think Cal was when the war ended based on JFO clips, but I always just kind of went with him being the same age as Kanan at the end of the war bc I love them and I need them to know each other. The title is from the poem “So They Say— They Finally Nailed— The Proton’s Size— & Hope— Dies—” by Rosebud Ben-Oni.
Read On AO3
*
When the hard part is over, Cal returns to Bracca, his new lightsaber tucked under Cere’s old robe that still smells like the Temple, with the intention of burning Prauf’s body.
Caleb still had his own robe. He kept it in the deepest part of their shared closet, bringing it out only on the worst days. If Prauf saw it, he never mentioned it, and both boys were grateful for it. There was a lot he didn’t mention.
Cal thinks, sometimes, that Prauf knew who they were before. After all, it’s hard to look at two abandoned kids in the wake of the Clone Wars that can survive being riggers and not think of the thousands of Jedi younglings that died on Empire Day. It’s even harder to ignore two lightsabers and one ratty, brown robe.
Maybe Prauf wasn’t sure.
But he had to be, on that last day, when they found that fighter. When Cal caught him with the Force. He knew then, maybe before. But he still took care of them.
Maybe he knew when the Empire showed up, when Caleb heard the roar of a TIE Fighter and looked instantly to the redheaded boy beside him like he was about to die before his eyes. Maybe that was the moment he put it all together. Or was it his last moment? When the world began to go dark and both Cal and Caleb lashed out in fury at his killers with matching, bright blue blades—did he know? Did he know that he died for the children of an already dying Order?
Standing over the bonfire, Cal holds the Holocron in shaky hands.
Did Prauf know his sacrifice would save the life of every child just like them?
Cal moves away from the flames to the gap in the ground that they’d held Caleb over, his calloused hands clawing at the Ninth Sister, who clutched his throat.
Deep in Cal’s heart, he knows half the reason he beat her was for his best friend. He’d almost given in to rage but stopped himself at the memory of him. Revenge is not the way of the Jedi. But justice is. And so is survival, these days.
Caleb’s lightsaber fell long before he did. When he did fall, he went screaming bloody murder, the noise echoing in the silence that rang in Cal’s ears.
Standing at the edge now, Cal almost considers simply...stepping off.
He can survive it. He has before. And what’s to say that Caleb isn’t waiting at the bottom?
Caleb...used to like animals, he remembers. He preferred them to plants, which are unreadable if you don’t have practise with them. Animals, like people, are complex but tell you in simple terms what they want and what they don’t want. Cal has always been better with plants. They’re simple, grounding, natural. Caleb used to tease him for it.
The only plant he ever managed to grow on this place was a seedling in a boot filled with dirt he kept in their room. It had been making good progress in their last weeks, enough that he’d actually felt some semblance of hope.
And then...and then he’d lost everything. Again.
The Holocron burns in his hand, reminding him that there is more in store for him than an endless chasm. Hundreds of thousands of Force-sensitive children are depending on him now, him and the Mantis crew.
Cal lets out a shaky breath. “I couldn’t save you,” he whispers to the wind. “But maybe I can save them.”
On the way back to the Mantis, he turns around to go find the robe and the plant in its boot. The robe smells like blaster fire and the plant is wilting but both are comforting: one because it’s familiar and the other because it’s not quite gone yet.
*
Kanan changes his name.
It doesn’t feel right, hearing his given name from anyone that isn’t Cal or Prauf. The first and only time it happens, nausea sinks in and he quickly makes the change.
Some days, he wants to go back to Bracca. Some part of him still hopes Cal survived the Inquisitors, that he’s waiting for him back at what used to be home, but the logical part of him knows that he’s not. Kanan surviving was a miracle, a fluke, and those don’t happen twice. Sometimes he wishes it had never happened at all.
He managed to save his lightsaber, as broken to bits as it was. It and the necklace Cal gave him are all he has now.
Kanan doesn’t let himself grieve, as much as he knows he needs to. He hardly did it before, on Bracca, but now he won’t allow even a tear. Surviving is the only thing on his mind, though for what he doesn’t know.
When he almost loses that little piece of metal on a string, though, he breaks down sobbing.
It’s the stupidest thing, really. All those lessons on attachment are lost on him now, as he cries over the rusted symbol of the Jedi Order on a piece of scrap metal that Cal had put on a cord for him. He keeps it close to his heart, hanging off his neck every hour of every day if he can help it, and getting that close to losing it is the last straw.
He knows now, why he’s surviving. Because Cal would want him to.
Meeting Hera is a relief. She’s kind but curious, which is more of a bane than it should be.
(Painfully, he’s reminded of himself as a youngling. His Master always said his frequent questions were what drew her to him.)
She’s the first to know about his past, both as a Jedi and a rigger on Bracca. He doesn’t think to mention Caleb, doesn’t think it would matter to anyone, not until after a mission gone bad.
Hera is putting bacta on his wounds and graciously ignoring his constant wincing when she sees it.
She points to the cord after examining what hangs on it for a minute. “For someone who’s trying to be discreet, you wear a lot of Jedi stuff.”
Kanan snorts. “Yeah, well, I won’t get rid of this one.”
“It’s important to you,” she points out. “Can I ask why?”
He hesitates, swallowing roughly. “My best friend gave it to me...on Bracca, befo-before the Inquisitors caught up to us,” he admits. “He didn’t make it.”
Her eyes are full of empathy, something she never lacks. “What was his name?”
“Cal,” he says, voice quiet. “Cal Kestis.”
“If you remember his name,” she promises, “he’ll always be with you.”
It’s not so much a Twi’lek belief as it is her own but it reminds Kanan of Grey more than anyone else. His buir. The clones subscribed to many Mandalorian beliefs, including the echoing of remembrances for the dead. Before the abrupt end of the war, little Caleb used to say his every morning with his Master and buir.
So, he decides to start again. It’s difficult, at first, to even get through the first names, his oldest names.
“Depa Billaba,” he says through tears in the quiet of pre-dawn, “Grey, Styles, Prauf...”
He stops.
It’s hard to think, even harder to say, but he knows he needs to. He needs to tell himself the truth, needs to accept the truth.
“Cal—”
He sobs, shaky and painful. His throat burns just like it did when he fell down the chasm on Bracca, screaming his head off, part out of fear for himself but mostly for fear of what was happening to Cal above him. It hurts to speak it into the world, into the Force and those marching on. Cal is among them now, he knows. He just...has to admit it.
“Cal Kestis,” he finally says, the admission wobbly and half-hearted.
He never loses the necklace again.

They’ve finally settled on Bogano, after wiping every trace of it from Imperial data servers. The Holocron is safely locked away in the Vault, guarded by their crew and the Binog, fondly called ‘the big guy,’ mostly by fault of Greez.
Though mostly self-sufficient, occasionally some of them will leave the planet for supplies they can’t make themselves. While off on supply runs, well, they can’t help it if some Imperials just look like easy pickings. Apparently, slavers get the same treatment because Merrin ends up a figure in some sort of oral tradition of a Tatooine family, which Cal finds hilarious. Cere is not so amused and grounds them—literally, in that they can’t leave Bogano—for over a month.
Cal spends most of it repairing old platforms and ziplines, not to mention entertaining the Boglings.
They’re fond of him, for some reason, and BD-1, who loves to run around with them while Cal works. One in particular, named Rabid by Merrin after she stole her entire plate of food, is especially loveable.
Cal snickers as he pulls Rabid off his shoulder. “I have to finish this, then I can play.”
Rabid is not pleased with his answer, nibbling at his trousers.
“Rabid,” he chides, ignoring her in favour of his work. He laughs again. “I used to know somebody who would’ve loved you, annoying as you are.”
BD, who has taken Rabid’s place, beeps curiously.
Cal’s face falls a little. He pauses in his work. “Oh. I guess I’ve never told you about Caleb, huh?”
The little droid shakes his head.
Cal never intended to talk about Caleb to anyone, really, but it all comes pouring out. He tells BD and Rabid all about his old best friend, his confidant. The story is a long one, reaching from the creche all the way to Bracca and its bitter end. By the time he’s finished, his voice is quiet and hesitant, his grief echoing through.
Rabid curls up in his lap, nudging his hand, while BD sits in front of them, tilting his head.
A little light on the side of his scope says that he’s recording. He does that a lot, Cal knows, for prosperity, just like he was programmed to. Cal doesn’t mind, really.
When he finishes, BD gets his attention by chirping.
“Huh? You have something to show me?”
BD’s projector whirrs to life and a blue image appears. It’s Cordova, again, but not a video this time. It’s only a holo, of him and another Jedi—Master Jocasta Nu, Cal realises. Master Cordova is dead asleep on her shoulder and she’s leaned over to kiss his brow.
“Oh,” Cal breathes out, something jarring in his chest.
BD-1 thinks that he and Caleb were—well, were like that.
“I—” he pauses. “I dunno, buddy. I never asked him if...but I think…”
Well. It’d be a stretch to say Cal loved him, but he certainly cared for him more than he ever did anyone else. When they were thirteen and stupid, he might’ve said he had a crush on him. After the Fall, on Bracca, he just...didn't think of it. Caleb was all he had and he clung but he never...thought about what it was, thought about what they were.
It hurts to think of now, all that he missed.
“I don’t know if I did,” Cal tells BD quietly. “But I think I- I think I could have.”
BD asks about Caleb a lot, after that. Maybe he can tell that talking about him makes Cal happy. The others know about the one he lost but they don’t ask. They all have their demons and Cal’s are just...just too great to pile on another person. BD, though, is a little easier. All he wants is to see Cal smile again.

“What’s this?”
Kanan doesn’t think to look up at whatever Ezra—the newest addition to the Ghost crew—has swiped from him, until he notices a weight missing from his neck. His head snaps up to where a cord hangs from Ezra’s hand.
“Give that back,” Kanan growls, not meaning to be so aggressive.
Ezra’s eyes widen. He holds it out immediately, dropping it into Kanan’s open hand. “Sorry,” he mutters, watching curiously as Kanan puts it back on.
Almost by instinct, Kanan tucks the piece of scrap metal back under his shirt and breathes out a sigh of relief. He goes back to his datapad. Then, a moment later, when he notices the entire room is still silent, he looks up. Sabine and Zeb have joined Ezra in staring incredulously.
“What?” Kanan asks, his voice back to normal.
“I’ve never seen you that mad before,” Sabine admits with a half-shrug, though her eyes betray her concern.
Zeb nods, arms crossed. “And I’ve never seen you without that thing on your neck.”
“Yeah, you even sleep with it!” Ezra adds. “What’s up with that?”
“I—” He goes to make an excuse but stops, his hand fidgeting with the necklace.
“You don’t have to…” Sabine starts to say, but he shakes his head.
He sighs. To be honest, he’s surprised Zeb and Sabine haven’t asked before. “My best friend gave it to me.”
Ezra immediately sits down across from him, eyes wide. “Another Jedi?”
Admittedly, the kid is a lot like he used to be: always asking questions, always pushing. It’s going to get him in trouble someday but for now, it just gets him more stories out of Kanan, stories about the Jedi.
“Yeah. Yeah, another Padawan. We grew up in the Temple together.” He smiles, a fickle and fleeting thing. “He was picked by a Master before me, so we were separated...at the end. But I found him again, on the planet he was last assigned. He gave me this.”
Ezra’s face is bright, curious. Sabine, on the other hand, looks prepared for a gut-punch.
“What happened to him?” she asks quietly.
Kanan exhales sharply, ruefully. “Inquisitors. After 5 years of nothing, they came out of nowhere. I never saw what happened to him. For all I know, they still have him.”
“Oh,” Ezra says, his face falling.
“You know, Zeb,” Kanan begins, not wanting to make things any sadder, “his Master was a Lasat.”
He scoffs. “No way.”
“He was, swear it on my life!” he claims, raising a hand. “First time I saw you, I thought Master Tapal came back to haunt me for being a bad influence.”
Zeb snickers. “Bad influence? You?”
“Eh, a nudge here and there. We were not good kids.”
He tells them a few stories before Sabine and Zeb are called away by Hera and Chopper, leaving Ezra and Kanan alone. Ezra makes to follow them but stops, his expression cautiously blank.
“What is it, Ezra?” Kanan asks, already knowing that he’s brimming with curiosity.
“You said he was...your best friend?”
He frowns. “Yeah, ever since we were kids. Why?”
“I dunno. The way you talked about him just reminded me of my parents,” Ezra admits hesitantly. “Sappy. Did you—?”
Kanan sighs, touching his necklace again.
He had always been more reckless than Cal, back then. He threw himself into everything, into every situation. No matter the problem or the person, he was all-in. No matter what. And that included Cal. Once he took that step, he was karked. Before he knew it, he was hanging onto the redhead’s every word.
Cal was...different. Kanan had known that for a long time but the war only brought it out.
Kanan had a stupid crush, that was all. But on Bracca, it was everything and more.
He’d known then, known for a long time. Cal had never seen it but he didn’t have to. Kanan was fine the way things were. It didn’t feel right, bringing things up after...well, after. So Cal never knew.
(Sure, he could see the past of things with a single touch of his hands but he’d always been pretty oblivious.)
“Love him?” Kanan asks, raising an eyebrow.
Ezra nods.
It’s without hesitation that he answers. “I did.”
When they go in search of Master Luminara, Kanan’s kids buy him a precious few minutes to search for a Cal Kestis in the prisoner logs. He’s not there, of course, but Kanan thinks he prefers that to a death certificate.
*
“Ho-oly shit,” Greez says over comms one day. “You guys better get up here.”
Cal shares a look with Cere, following her out of the workshop with BD on his shoulder. Merrin has already teleported to Greez’s side when they arrive, lightsabers in hand. Greez passes the young man—not so young anymore, Cere has commented teasingly as he desperately shaves away any trace of his age—a pair of electrobinoculars.
Squinting through the scope, he spies a trail of smoke on the horizon attached to a ship.
“Kriffing hells,” Cere says after she gets a look.
In all their 10 years here, no one has ever landed—or crashed, for that matter—on the planet. The few ships that have come into orbit were Imperial and always quickly dealt with before word could get out. This one, however, isn’t exactly your standard Imperial cruiser. And it’s wrecked.
“Looks like a modified VCX-100 light freighter to me,” Greez says. “It’s a nice ship.”
Merrin rolls her eyes. “Are we waiting for them to come to us?”
“Looks like we don’t have to,” Cere declares, still looking through the binocs. “They’re headed this way, six hostiles. Three humans, a Lasat, a Twi’lek, and a droid.”
Greez laughs. “A Lasat? We’re kriffed.”
“Says you,” Merrin snorts.
“I’m with her,” Cal agrees, a cocky smile on his face. “Merrin and I will take the Vault. Cere, Greez, take home. BD will lure the big ones our way.”
“You got it, kid.”
Cere puts a hand on his shoulder before he can follow Merrin—more or less, seeing as she just teleports everywhere. “Be careful.”
The worst part of intruders is that even the hypothetical good ones can’t know Bogano is here. They’ll have to knock them out hard enough for their memories to be spotty and dump them in a nearby system if they’re smart—and they are.
Cal slips on his robe, a gift from Cere, and flips the hood up, making for the Vault.
If these visitors think they can take the Holocron, they have another thing coming.
*
“Are you sure we can find help here?” Ezra asks for the third time as they approach the massive building in the distance. “It looks...deserted.”
Hera sighs for the third time. “Scanners said there were signs of life here in a higher concentration than the rest of the planet. It’s worth checking out.”
Sabine gestures through the mild fog. “There’s buildings up ahead.”
“Good, let’s head there,” Kanan says, a cautious hand on his lightsaber.
Hopping across platforms is a pain, but they all manage to make their way to what looks like a residential area. A small path digs into the ground, leading deeper inside the planet’s crust. With a look at her second in command, Hera starts toward it. However, she stops when Kanan freezes.
“Do you feel that?” he asks suddenly, squinting as he looks into the distance.
Something is...tugging at him. Something in the Force is insistent that he go...that way. The feeling of incompleteness settles inside his chest.
“No…” Ezra replies uneasily. “What is it?”
He shakes his head. “I don’t know.” After a moment, he decides. “I think I should go this way. You guys go on ahead.”
Zeb scoffs. “I’ll go with you. We don’t know who lived here. Could be Inquisitors for all we know.”
“They generally prefer places with lava,” Ezra counters.
The group splits, with Hera leading Sabine, Chopper, and Ezra into the abode. She and Sabine have their blasters raised, while Ezra keeps a hand on his lightsaber. Chopper is always ready to give someone a nasty shock.
“Anyone home?” Sabine calls.
There’s no answer.
They come across a small kitchen and dining room, where two chairs are pulled out. Over one hangs a small, ratty brown robe with multiple blaster burns.
Ezra plucks it off the back of the seat. “Woah, cool,” he breathes. “Very Jedi-like, huh?”
“Leave it, Ezra,” Hera chides fondly.
“You’d best,” says another voice.
All three of them jump as a lightsaber hums to life. Double-bladed, the weapon burns bright white throughout the room, illuminating its bearer, a woman with dark skin and hair, and her companion.
“Inquisitor!” Ezra cries, lighting his own.
The lightsaber wielder’s friend fires off a blaster right at Hera, who’s shoved out of the way by Sabine. Chopper shrieks, his head spinning.
“Look out!”
On the surface, Zeb follows Kanan to the edge of the platform. There, they find a zip line, which they intend to brave before a series of chirps stops them.
Zeb yelps and lifts his rifle when a droid appears, only stopped by Kanan’s raised hand.
It’s...a buddy droid.
“Hey, little guy,” Kanan greets cautiously. “What are you doing all the way out here?”
He beeps excitedly and backs away, indicating that they should follow. With a single leap, he attaches himself to the zipline and whirrs as he zooms all the way down.
“Don’t tell me we’re following the droid,” Zeb groans.
Kanan just smiles. “We’re following the droid.”
Using the Force to balance himself, he leaps atop the zipline and begins to tiptoe his way down. Behind him, Zeb sighs but reaches up to grab the line, following right after him. They land on a platform a good distance away, where a small slope is guarded by two statues; the beings depicted are of an unknown species, one lost to time.
“I don’t like this,” Zeb says as soon as he hops onto the grass. “It’s like the start of a bad horror holo.”
Kanan snorts. “If that were true, it would be raining tookas and massiffs.”
The buddy droid whirrs loudly to get their attention and bounces his way up the sloping path, on top of which sits a fluffy native creature. Kanan doesn’t know what they’re called, but this one is adorable. She chirps at them, much like the droid did.
“Oh, you’re a sweet little thing, aren’t you?” Kanan coos, moving to meet the creature and let her sniff his hand.
She makes a happy noise and nudges him.
“Ugh,” Zeb mutters, “more things.”
The droid and the creature lead them to the entrance of the massive, ancient building that had caught Kanan’s eye from the crash site. He steps in front of Zeb, placing his hand on the runes in the rock as the Force sings. This isn’t what’s calling him, but…
“Something is here,” Kanan whispers.
“I hope it’s not something that wants to eat us,” Zeb says long-sufferingly.
The slab of rock retreats into the space above, leaving an open tunnel of sorts.
“Karabast,” the Lasat curses, “I hate Jedi stuff.”
Kanan rolls his eyes. “C’mon.”
It’s a tight fit, but the two squeeze their way through, Kanan leading the way. They exit into a large cavern filled with a few inches of water, just enough to be annoying. Standing in the midst of the cave is a figure in a brown robe. The moment Kanan spots him, he draws his lightsaber and stands in front of Zeb until he can ready his rifle, too.
“You are not meant to be here.”
Kanan frowns. “The Force says otherwise. Who are you?”
“The guardian of this vault. You need to leave,” the figure says.
From underneath their robe, they draw a very familiar weapon. With a snap and a hiss, two blades of yellow light appear. Kanan lights his own lightsaber in response but it’s too little too late.
A green smoke encompasses Zeb, who yelps as he’s flung across the room by a pissed off Nightsister—which makes zero sense because they’re all supposed to be dead.
Kanan makes for his friend, interrupted only by the mysterious guardian rushing at him.
“Where did you get that lightsaber?” the faceless figure hisses.
And, well, Kanan doesn’t know how to answer that question except with another question. “Where did you get yours? ”
Back in the residential platform, Hera leaps in between Ezra and the lightsaber-wielder. “Wait!” she cries.
Both stop, staring at her like she’s crazy.
“That’s a healed kyber crystal, isn’t it?” Hera asks, pointing to her white blade. “You’re not an Inquisitor. You’re a Jedi.”
The woman lowers her lightsaber just slightly. “I was.”
“I’m one, too!” Ezra chirps, popping out from behind Hera. “Er. I’m training to be one!”
Her eyes widen. “A Padawan? Who’s your Master?”
Before he can answer, Hera speaks for him. “Kanan Jarrus. But his name used to be Caleb Dume.”
“Caleb?” she asks, her voice hushed in awe. “Depa Billaba’s Padawan?”
She nods.
Abruptly, the woman turns sharply on her heel, raising her comm unit to her lips and rushing out the door. “Cal, they’re non-hostiles, non-hostiles! Don’t hurt your boyfriend!”
“What!?” Ezra and Sabine cry at the same time, the former’s voice cracking.
Without another word, they follow her and her friend outside.
*
Merrin has the Lasat out of the Vault long before Cal gets his opponent to the entrance, admittedly. Lightsaber to lightsaber combat is significantly more balanced than Nightsister magick against a bo-rifle, poor guy.
Still, Cal pushes the intruder to the top of the Vault’s slope, the man just on the edge of slipping.
That’s when Cere’s voice crackles through the comms.
“Cal, they’re non-hostiles, non-hostiles! Don’t hurt your boyfriend!”
Hand grasping the intruder’s shirt, holding him above the edge, Cal freezes. He meets brown eyes and suddenly can’t breathe, gaze drifting to the cord around the taller man’s neck. His gloveless fingers just barely skim the material, Force signatures exploding in front of his eyes.
And suddenly, he can see it. He can see himself, painstakingly painting that symbol onto the metal and bartering for a cord. He sees an older Caleb sobbing in the quiet of an unfamiliar room, clutching that necklaces like a lifeline.
“Did you—?”
“Love him? I did.”
A shaky breath passes his lips.
“Caleb?” he asks, voice breaking on the name that’s so unfamiliar on his tongue.
The grip on his wrist loosens.
Kanan hears the woman’s voice, clear as day, but he almost doesn’t believe it at first. He almost doesn’t believe when he hears that whispered question. Caleb. It’s the name of a stranger and yet—yet when that robe’s hood slips off to reveal red hair and bright green eyes, he feels like he’s never known any other name.
“Cal?”
The Force wasn’t calling him to the Vault. It was calling him to its guardian.
Silence falls, the rest of the world fading away. All they’ve been through, all they’ve seen, and it all stops in this moment. It all adds up to this.
Cal lets go of his shirt, letting him balance precariously at the top of the muddy slope down from the Vault. Neither of them speaks—neither of them knows what to feel, except bright, unparalleled joy.
Cal doesn’t let himself flinch when Caleb reaches, his fingers just barely skimming his cheek.
He doesn’t get much further. Green smoke encompasses his body and before Cal knows it, his best friend is being flung from the Vault entrance to the platform beyond, screaming as he goes. The platform beyond, where the Oggdo used to reside, is covered in flowers. It was there that Cal planted his little sapling in a boot and there that the plant spread, covering almost every inch of land with budding blue and yellow flowers.
Cal whirls around to see Merrin, her eyes glowing green.
“Merrin, no!” he protests, eyes wide with desperation. “That’s Caleb!”
Merrin’s glowing fades as she glances at the nearby Lasat and her friend’s horrified face. “My mistake,” she says in that tone that says she knows exactly who he is.
(They were taking too long to speak, in her opinion.)
Cal huffs at her before getting a running start toward the entrance, using the Force to balance himself as he slides down that muddied slope, sailing right toward Caleb. Near the end, he leaps into the air, propelling himself a mere few feet from his collapsed companion.
“Caleb!” he cries, stumbling the last few steps and falling to his knees, where Caleb is face-down in the damp grass, his hair-tie mysteriously missing.
Caleb is—well, he’s okay. He’s just...wheezing with laughter.
He pushes himself up on his elbows and flips over just as Cal makes it to him, his chest heaving with the effort. And still, he laughs, a half-mad sound.
“Are you o—?” Cal is cut off by his own yelp when Caleb flings himself up from the ground and pulls Cal with him.
He embraces the redhead, dragging them both to their feet so he can swing Cal around. Cal shrieks and hitches his legs up on his hips, as difficult as that is with the man’s height—the bastard, he grew. He reaches desperately for Caleb’s shoulders to hold onto when they spin, completely unaware of Cere and the rest of Caleb’s group appearing on the platform.
Finally, Caleb stops, looking up at Cal with shining eyes and a smile that could kill a man. Cal leans forward, letting his forehead fall against his and breathing out a sigh of relief.
“I thought the Inquisitors had you,” Caleb whispers, a thousand more words in the back of his mind, too many to count.
Cal’s eyes well with tears. “I thought you were dead.”
Caleb has always been more reckless than Cal but the latter was the one to hear his words echo through that necklace, an admission years too late. It’s because of that little echo that Cal buries a hand in the hair that falls to his shoulders and pushes his head upward, meeting him in a searing kiss.
Out of shock, Caleb both squeaks—adorable, Cal thinks—and clutches the back of Cal’s shirt for a moment before dropping him. Luckily, his instinct has him landing on his feet.
The drop pulls him away and, looking up, he sees Caleb looking shell-shocked.
He just grins, grabs the taller man’s shirt, and pulls him in for another kiss, this one saying much more than the first. Caleb plants his feet and buries a hand in Cal’s hair for good measure.
They both ignore Greez cackling in the distance and Sabine’s whispered: “What the fuck, what the fuck, what the fuck —”
Because in that moment, all is right with the galaxy. Cal’s flowers are fully grown and blossoming beneath their feet, Caleb’s robe is waiting for him in the other room, and they have each other again.
And that’s all they’ve ever really wanted, isn’t it?

. you know who i am? .
k, so i didn’t mean for this to get so out of hand. also, my first time writing in present tense? idk how to feel about it, but i guess it’s different. it felt so different writing for like actual humans lol. my first ‘normal’ fic, this is!
please for the sake of this making sense can we all pretend jennie, joy and irene are around the same age? also look who had fun with brand names. moi.
anyways this is [badgirl/bully!joohyun ‘persuading’ clumsy freshman!seungwan to be her assignment buddy]
...
University culture is grating.
It’s overwhelming and it suffocates her. She has no time to prepare herself for the apparent runway the halls have become, what with the stupid-rich kids treating every day like it’s a fashion show; Seungwan can barely blink from one person to the next without being smacked across the face with fur coats from Chanel, Louis Vuitton sunglasses hidden under Prada nylon bucket hats and Off-White tracksuits tucked into Balenciaga socks. She hadn’t considered a future in law enforcement, but had she done so, anyone who tucked their trousers into their socks mid-calf would find themselves behind bars with the rest of the criminal scum. End of.
Just as she dusts her hands of that smug little sentiment, Seungwan finds herself with a face full of hair, and an even bigger nose full of what smells like laundry detergent. She lets out an embarrassing squeal, and the girl turns round to face her. A ghost of a scowl brushes across her face before she fixes her with an indiscernible gaze.
That scowl is an awful colour on a face as pretty as yours, she impulsively thinks.
Seungwan knows no more about the history of art and the intricacies of sculpture than the average Joe, but she’s sure Michelangelo missed the mark with David. She inwardly laughs at the thought of the man dedicating his entire being to crafting his flimsy idea of ‘perfection’ when she’d just bumped into it; the real thing. Of course, if that was defined by forming new constellations from faded freckles on flawless skin, or vantablack tresses framing sharp features like a painting, then yes; she was, by very definition, ‘the perfect (wo)man’. Easily outdoing anyone within a 50-metre radius.
Heck, make that 500.
The girl glares intimidation and Seungwan manages to save herself the humiliation of drooling in front of the white-hot beauty and her friends with a quick gulp, already feeling crimson seeping into her cheeks.
Perfect; now that she’s watched whatever new potential friendship this was blow up in her face, all she has to do is avoid her at all costs from here on out.
She mouths a haphazard apology and zooms past before anything can come of it, keeping her head down even after she’s well out of sight. Seulgi, Seulgi, Seulgi, save me, she brisk walks and begs all the way to class.
~~~~~~~~~~
A small commotion rings through the lecture hall of keyboard clicks and lethargic shuffles, calling to attention the girl who’s just spilt her drink down her front, now frantically digging around in her backpack for anything she can use to soak it up. A few jeering giggles are stifled, meanwhile students close by donate tissues and sympathetic looks. They are gratefully accepted with rapid-fire bows and machine-gun stuttered apologies.
“That freshman’s just ruined her rep, huh?” Jennie chuckles, “blindly walking into people… can’t even keep liquid in the cup. Give her a dog collar and a sign and she’s good to go.”
“Eh, I thought it was cute.”
Jennie’s retort comes quick.
“Sooyoung, you think anything in a skirt is cute.”
“What,” the girl says, ignoring the implication, “Haetnimie doesn’t wear skirts. And she’s not even wearing one right now. Plus, I didn’t say ‘she’s cute’, I said ‘it’s cute’. Learn the difference, idiot… it’s not like I wanna have at her or anything…”
Jennie shoots her an incredulous look and Sooyoung relents the banter. They both turn their attention to the girl sitting next to them, completely un-present in the moment. Sooyoung notices who she’s looking at and leans in to nudge her.
“Joohyun,” she whispers, poking her in the ribs when it’s obvious their friend is well on her way to signing a contract with NASA with how apparently well accustomed to space she is, “what do you think of her? Or are you still mad she walked into you?”
“Nah, forget it,” Jennie waves her off before she’s even had a chance to respond, “she’s not interested. I had to literally pay her money to go on a stupid double date with me in high school. I washed five cars for her to not even hold his hand once during the movie.”
Instead of participating, Joohyun sighs, casting the girl in question a seemingly uninterested stare. Unbothered eyes take in the sight she’s presented with: frustrated brows knitted together under a wispy caramel fringe and a blot of taro milk tea the size of Canada staining her baby blue jumper.
“I want her.”
The words are so simple her friends almost miss them entirely.
Sooyoung and Jennie battle for first place in an impromptu competition of ‘who’s-the-most-shocked’.
“You’re joking! Yah, you’re so annoying seriously, now?! You couldn’t have ‘wanted’ Min-seok in year nine?! I paid good, hard cash for that stupid boy!”
Joohyun looks at her, smug as a cat.
“I did it for you, Jennie. I didn’t even remember his name was Min-ho.”
“Min-seok.”
“Yeah, right.”
Sooyoung, wide-eyed and on the verge of passing out, grabs Joohyun by the shoulders, ignoring the glare she receives for it. “Joohyun, seriously? You’re serious. You want her like want her? Or want her like you wanted that cookbook after that trial week of Food Tech during summer break?”
Joohyun regards her, absolutely blasé. “I don’t follow recipes.”
“Exactly. Are you play-”
Sooyoung’s statement dies down with the rest of the class as the lecturer walks in. Furious clicking, hurricane scribbles and flipping pages are all that remain as the lesson kicks off, Jennie and Sooyoung casually scrolling through Instagram while the professor speaks. Joohyun leans forward, elbows on desk and chin resting on interlocked fingers. Her full attention is on the poor girl on the other side of the hall, intermittently peeling the cold, damp fabric away from her body, face flushed and avoiding all eye contact. Joohyun snickers at how uncomfortable it must be to have to sit through class in a wet jumper, how awkward and squeamish she looks.
Strawberry-tinted lips curl into the faintest smirk.
Hello cutie.
~~~~~~~~~~
“Yah! Kang Seul-Gi!” Seungwan calls out to chocolate-swirly space buns and baggy gym clothes hurtling towards her from across campus grounds, “where the heck were you?!”
“Sorry sorry! Overslept!”
“What!? Your class starts at noon! … and this is like… day 1!”
The girl looks like she’s barely had the chance to screw her head on the right way as she joins Seungwan on the steps of the university entrance.
Seungwan’s sweating buckets; physically and metaphorically, both from the waves of humidity and her all-exclusive one-idiot circus show this morning in class. That little muck up makes it to the tippy top of the endless list of embarrassing things Seungwan has stored in her long-term memory.
“You okay?”
Seungwan palms rosy cheeks as she takes another mouthful of her rainbow sherbet cone.
“You wouldn’t believe what happened to me.”
Seulgi chortles as her best friend recounts her ordeal, trying to subdue the sea of smart alec remarks bubbling under her skin.
“So that was great, too. And now I’m a laughing stock. A meme. They’re probably editing my stupid face as I speak…”
Seulgi reverts back to the first incident. Of course she would.
“Sooo… not like in the dramas then?”
Seungwan hangs her head, “not at all… she looked like she wanted to kill me.”
Seulgi lets out a snort before prodding her with more curious questions. The cogs in Seungwan’s brain churn and stutter as she tries to filter as many redundant adjectives as possible, only using ones she deems absolutely necessary to describe the most beautifully terrifying girl she’s ever seen.
Just then, as if Seungwan had meant to conjure hell itself, the three girls make an appearance from round the corner, chatting amongst themselves and taking Seungwan and Seulgi by surprise. The latter glances down where steely fingers are squeezing her wrist, as if that’d activate some magical cloak of invisibility. Seungwan’s as good as swallowed her tongue, shakily motioning to the girl in the middle of the black velvet storm with her eyes and a few nose twitches.
“H-her…” she stutters, finally getting her brain into gear after they leave, “… her.”
Innocent eyes double in size at the realisation.
“Wha-wait no, her?! You bumped into… her?! Her, Bae Joohyun leader of killer senior pack Bae Joohyun?”
Seungwan’s heart only thumps faster at the panic in Seulgi’s voice, but her words still mean nothing. The other girl swipes the dangling question marks off the top of her friend’s clueless head.
“Yo Wan-ah, you have to lay low. I mean why would you even – oh geez wow you really messed up. Can’t you look where you’re – I can’t even begin to – why would you – oh my gosh!”
Seulgi’s disjointed sentences allow enlightenment to trickle in and Seungwan slaps a hand over her forehead, mortified.
Oh god no. That’s the Bae Joohyun?
She’d heard the rumours. Many, rumours. Bae Joohyun who makes her juniors cry. Bae Joohyun; precious daughter of the most elusive mafia gang leader in all of Korea. Bae Joohyun; ice queen senior, sole roost-ruler of Hanyang University and the biggest bully you’ll ever meet.
Positively preposterous, empty claims with no evidence whatsoever to back them up… she hopes.
“Pft yeah okay she’s… mean, but she’s not like… jesus or anything she can’t… like… part the Red Sea or, turn water into vodka I don’t know,” Seungwan tries and fails at consoling herself, receiving nothing but an apologetic pat on the back from the girl beside her.
“Yeah well… she’s not the messiah but everyone treats her like it. And for the sake of your own neck, you’d better start too. Watch out, Wan-ah.”
Seungwan hadn’t paid any mind to those wet-eared freshmen whom she’d overheard during orientation gossiping about Joohyun and her charming little posse; but perhaps she should have.
She gulps, too afraid to think of anything else.
~~~~~~~~~~
Seungwan often fantasizes at work. There has to be some way to pass the time, after all.
Deep down she’s a sucker for romance, she knows it far too well; she envisions herself ten years down the line, letting whoever she has on the other end of the phone know that she’ll be home soon, that work has just been extra grueling today, and that she cannot wait to give them a cuddle. She’ll stir the dinner pot while she tells them stories, pausing in between to remind her lover how beautiful they are. Perhaps one day, the honour will be hers, to see her soulmate walking down the aisle.
But as the tinkling of the doorbell rings through her café, Seungwan files those cloudy fantasies for later and greets her first customers with a smile.
She hasn’t been sleeping very well, worrying her mind with ridiculous thoughts and impossible scenarios. All involving Joohyun as a tick-tocky alligator and herself as none other than Captain ‘I’m-actually-innocent-why-are-you-still-trying-to-eat-me’ Hook.
~~~~~~~~~~
It’s five minutes to closing time. Seungwan suppresses the yawn in her chest and blinks away the moisture in her eyes. Just zero to sixty, five times in your head. You got this, Seungwan. Gosh, there’s no one in the café and hardly anyone outside. She briefly contemplates closing early.
“Small iced Americano.”
“Coming r – aii!! Ai…!”
Seungwan’s adrenaline spikes so high she could serve it ice cold in a coffee cup right now. Caught completely off guard, she begins stammering nonsense behind the till, crinkling the leather of her dark brown work apron and then using the hem of her polo shirt to wring clammy palms none the drier. All the while her customer stands there, brow quirked and card held out between slender fingers. Her expression, although slightly amused, threatens her to take her money, or else.
Before she can open her mouth, a buttery voice snaps her out of her trance.
“Hello, Seung – wan… hey, don’t we have Korean Literature together?”
Seungwan tries not to spontaneously combust on the job as she instinctively slaps a hand over her name tag. It’s useless though, it is now known. Known to her, of all people. The notorious Bae Joohyun; dressed in Acne jeans and an over-sized midnight Balenciaga cardigan, she looks like any other young, caffeine-dependent university student. But Seungwan knows a lot better.
Oh god save me… what the hell is she doing here!? This has to be a set up. She’s here for me. I’m going to die tonight. Mummy, daddy I love you.
“J-J-Juh…”
She can’t say it. All the years of schooling; learning the alphabet and how to enunciate your words drain out through the holes in her ears. She gawks dumbly, moving her head in what could be considered to be a nod.
“Ah, I thought I recognised you,” she doesn’t even bother trying to sound surprised, “I’m Joohyun.”
Don’t I know.
All Seungwan can do is nod again, hating herself for even breathing right now.
Joohyun clicks her tongue and fiddles with the card in her hand, impatient, “soooo… is this Americano free, or…?”
Yes, yes it’s free, please just take it and go! I’ll upgrade it to an extra-large if you want, on me! If it means I’m spared for the rest of my student life, take it all! Jesus, how did you even find me?!
“Ah, yes. Sorry! Uh, yes that’ll be um two fif – two… two thirty.”
There’s a shaky exchange of a debit card and a forgotten peace treaty iced Americano before Seungwan takes an unconscious shuffle back from the register, eyes glued to the smudge on the toe of her right sneaker, unable to meet Joohyun’s piercing gaze for too long.
“Thank you, Seungwan.”
The way she lingers on the ‘S’ whispers shivers down the girl’s spine. She glances up at the worst possible time, too, nearly jumping out of her mismatched Muji socks when she sees Joohyun’s hibiscus-tinted lips bloom into a coy smirk.
“I’ll see you around.”
And with what a shivering Seungwan could’ve sworn was a terrible attempt at a wink, Joohyun is gone. Clutching at her chest, she tries to slow her accelerated heartrate, praying she doesn’t need heart surgery after what she’s just been through.
Seulgi’s so hearing about this.
~~~~~~~~~~
“Daebak,” Sooyoung scoffs, side-eyeing Joohyun as she twiddles her pen.
“What else did you say?” Jennie presses, taking a sip of her chai latte.
Joohyun merely hums, disclosing no further details of her little cafe incident. She misses Jennie’s disbelieving grin when the walking, talking definition of awkward bumbles into the lecture hall, just on time, armful of texts and messy cinnamon locks matted to her face.
Sooyoung can’t resist a jest. “Joohyun, look. It’s idiocy on legs.”
Joohyun bites back a snort as her eyes follow the girl stumbling and murmuring apologies all the way to her seat. She slumps into the chair with burning cheeks, brushing her hair back with her fingers and fiddling with her gingerbread fringe. Too cute, Joohyun thinks, gritting her teeth.
It happens about mid-way in the class. The mention of pair work triggers the uniform eye-roll, groan and grumble combo, more so from the seniors, who sure as hell don’t want to be paired with icky, snot-nosed first-years who can barely lift their spoons to their mouths. The grumbling evaporates when it is stated that, although compulsory, it is not a fixed-paired assignment.
Seungwan breathes a sigh of relief along with a few others, content to set up camp in the aisles of the library, perfectly undisturbed. But she suddenly feels paler than chalk; flashbacks of heeled boots, midnight cardigans and heart surgery flooding into her veins once more when she catches a pair of stealthy pupils regarding her from across the room. A deceptively sweet smile sparkling on those dreaded lips, breath-taking and utterly petrifying all at once. Even from the other side of a bloody lecture theatre, Bae Joohyun has Seungwan sweating bullets and unconsciously fidgeting at her collar to release steam no one else can see.
About a minute away from hurling herself out the nearest window, Seungwan diverts her attention to her notebook at the last second.
~~~~~~~~~~
Seungwan stabs her chopstick into the egg yolk, watching it dribble all over her rice. She’s jealous of her own best friend who doesn’t have to live every waking hour with a red sniper laser dot on her back.
Should’ve majored in art too, goddamnit, she curses, poking her lunch in a dazed stupor.
“Wan-ah!”
She scoffs at the familiarity, but Seulgi’s crescent moon grin makes Seungwan momentarily forget.
~~~~~~~~~~
The black cursive of Han Kang’s literature stares up at her as she tries to digest what she’s reading, but she swears her brain allocates the worst times for that sneaky Bae Joohyun to pop up like an unwanted advertisement. Seems like now, she’s going to have to sit through an entire trilogy.
Despite the crippling dread, Seungwan can’t help but wonder. They’re so silly, but she wonders them anyway. She feels free to let her mind wander in the safety of the university library.
Bae Joohyun; Seungwan’s mind is unchanged; she’s the most beautiful girl she’s laid eyes on. It’s a unique kind of beauty; mysteriously edgy, knife-like and femme fatale. The grin Joohyun gave her in class this morning, she knows she should be running from it, but it doesn’t stop the fact that it’s been playing in her head on repeat ever since.
Seungwan unintentionally imagines what it would be like to kiss that sunset-infused smirk right off her face.
Too bad she’s a mean one, she sighs.
She doesn’t get much further with the actual task at hand when her blood-pressure plummets; she watches leader of the killer senior pack, Bae Joohyun, artlessly sit down in the chair next to her. It’s like the world stops spinning for the second it takes their eyes to meet, and Seungwan quivers in her seat, thoughts of literature fleeing out the back of her brain.
Trying to be polite, she gives her a courteous nod and returns to her reading. But Joohyun just sits there, staring, peppering her body with smoking bullet holes – it frightens her in the weirdest way. She can’t help the tiny bubble of… excitement? At the fact that Hanyang’s notorious Bae Joohyun is sitting next to her. Probably to get close enough to kill her, of course, but she’d count her blessings, no matter how terrifying. The thread finally snaps, and Seungwan is able to channel her inner stone statue no more, wordlessly excusing herself and stumbling to the bathroom.
It’s empty and silent; exactly what she needs. She flicks some cool water over the burning in her cheeks and dabs at the heat welled in the corners of her eyes.
But just as she’s about to leave, Joohyun’s standing in the doorway; cloaked in all her intimidating aura and eclipsing her only exit.
“Bathroom break so soon?” Joohyun’s voice drips into her ears like melted honey as she observes a wry smile crawl onto her face, “we’ve barely gotten started. Let’s get back to work… partner.”
It’s kicking in only now what Joohyun is saying. And it takes everything Seungwan has to formulate a pathetic response.
“Oh right, a-about that,” she nervously chuckles, averting her gaze and scratching the back of her neck, “uh, I-I was just um… I don’t wanna drag anyone down with – you know because you’re a senior and all – was m-maybe thinking –”
She doesn’t get very far when Joohyun begins advancing, walking towards her with such sure, dominating strides Seungwan has no choice but to back away, the piercing squeaks of Adidas sneakers easily drowning out the clicking of Louboutin heeled boots. Joohyun sports that coy smirk the whole time she’s cornering poor Seungwan, further and further back, until…
A tiny yelp is torn from her as her back hits the wall. Seungwan strains up to meet her eyes, 5 inch boots are a very useful intimidation tool. Her heart feels about as fragile as sugar glass, and she thinks it would do her good to invest in those styrofoam packing peanuts and a roll of caution tape.
Joohyun observes the little caramel-haired mouse girl she’s caught; pressed against the cool, beige tile, both hands out in front of her, quivering like a jello pile. She quickly notes the way the top of Seungwan’s head just about grazes the bottom of the wall-mounted paper towel dispenser, and it stretches her grin even further. She looks irresistible, those doe eyes the colour of warm cocoa. Who knew she had a thing for sweet faces, well-intentions and weak-hearts?
Realising her hands aren’t doing anything to keep the other girl at bay, Seungwan drops them like a tonne of bricks - she’s never felt so small and helpless in her life. The rich scent of vanilla and mint tickles her nose; Joohyun’s too close, and she really needs those fragile stickers to go over the thumping in her chest. But she also wants to nuzzle in closer to that intoxicating shampoo smell.
“P-please… I-I didn’t mean to…”
Her voice sounds so tiny and fragile, it tugs on Joohyun’s heartstrings.
“You know who I am?” she demands in somewhat of a growl, caging the smaller girl in with both arms pressed on either side of her head, causing her to gasp out, “you’ve heard?”
Seungwan shrinks a little more, petunias searing onto her milky cheeks at the proximity, but terror-stricken nonetheless. It’s burning, and it’s too much.
A small ‘mm’ and a teary nod is all she can offer.
Joohyun shoots her a challenging smirk, a kaleidoscope of obsidian pebbles flicker in her darkened eyes as she brings a single finger under the girl’s chin, tilting her so she’s forced to look up.
“And you still think you have a choice?”
Seungwan wishes she could rear up at the challenge, hammer some humility into that smug attitude in front of her; put Bae Joohyun in her place. But who is she to change the way the world works? Girls like Joohyun toy with what they want, and get what they toy with; the natural order of things Seungwan has no hope of re-routing. Her resolve, her dignity and everything she’s built up in her 20 years on earth crumbles at her feet; she doesn’t bother picking up the pieces.
With that, she looks up at the girl who still has her locked in with her eyes alone, and meekly shakes her head.
Seungwan can finally breathe when Joohyun detaches herself from the wall and runs both hands down the front of her blouse. She hears a chuckle and before she knows it, there’s an arm around her waist, moving them in tandem.
She doesn’t see the triumphant smile etched into Joohyun’s rosebud lips, like she’s swallowed a coat hanger. All she knows is that they’re now bound by this assignment, and that Joohyun is leaving with exactly what she came for.
Seungwan hides a shy grin of her own.
Can You Feel the Love Tonight? || S.H.
steve harrington x henderson!reader
Tumblr media
Summary: Dustin, Steve and Robin have a good dynamic. It’s been that way for a while now. But now that you’re involved, well, let’s just say Dustin doesn’t quite know how to deal with that.
A/N: Okay so I know that the Lion King didn’t come out until ‘94, meaning the song Elton John released didn’t come out until then, however I was heavily inspired by rewatching the original Lion King and just recently watching the new Lion King (which I absolutely loved and cried majorly, by the way). This fic is based off of the version in the (1994 + 2019) movie and that whole dynamic because I’m Stranger Things and Disney trash. I highly recommend listening to either version of the song while reading this or prior cause idk it kind of put me in the romantic, wistful mood. Be prepared (hehe) cause this is some fluffy shit. Also I busted this out in a day, so here you are, babes x
Warnings: flustered Steve?? Jealous Dustin?? That’s pretty much it though
Song Inspo: Can You Feel the Love Tonight (The Lion King Soundtrack and Elton John)
•••••
“Unbelievable.” Dustin scoffs. “Un-fucking-believable!”
“Hey language, shitbird!” Robin scorns him from the driver’s seat.
“Sorry—I’m sorry, just...” The boy adjusts himself as best as possible to peer even more over the dash of Robin’s car. “Can you believe this?”
Dustin’s voice goes up a few octaves as he turns a crazed eye to his friend. Robin simply stares back at him with a rather disinterested expression.
It isn’t until Dustin let’s out another scoff and overly dramatic roll of his eyes that they stop staring at each other. But then again, Robin knew he wouldn’t be able to resist staring at their two friends in the restaurant for long.
Robin takes note of Dustin’s face, and she can’t help but shake her head in amusement. It was a nice evening, families and couples were walking around or into the diner that they were parked only a stones throw away from. Outside of her car, the atmosphere was gentle and calm, but inside the car, it was intense, humourous (on her side) and frustrating.
The stark difference in environments only added to Dustin’s annoyance and tension that she was sure would boil over soon like heated milk.
Dustin yanks the binoculars off of his neck and raises them in front of his eyes as he fiddles around with the eye pieces. “I mean...she literally just got back!” She literally just got back and now her and Steve are having fun. Without him.
She doesn’t even know him that well.
“Yeah, like a week ago.” Robin intervenes.
“Still!”
Robin looks over at her friend and rolls her eyes, beginning to play with the stereo in an attempt to relieve herself of boredom. “Why can’t we just go home, kid? I mean, they’re not hurting anyone.”
“Yes, they are!” Dustin had enunciated every syllable in pursuit of communicating to his friend that this whole situation, ultimately, was a mistake. “Robin, she’s literally ruining our entire dynamic!”
Robin leans back into the squeaky old seat even more, turning her gaze to the tacky carpeted roof of her tacky car. “She’s your sister, dude. Take a chill pill... I mean, aren’t you happy she’s back?” Robin finally turns to her comrade, still lying back however to broadcast to the kid that she was tired and didn’t care about the date occurring before them.
Dustin sighs and places his two fingers on the bridge of his nose. “Of course I am, Robin but like—seriously?!”
Robin notes that the almost-teenagers attention span runs shorter than that of a goldfish. But she humours him anyway and turns to what Dustin continues to be spastic about.
Dustin makes the scene before them out to be like a traumatic, vomit-inducing nightmare. If anything, however, the scene before the pair is actually kind of nice. Romantic, even.
And even with Robin pointing that out to him, Dustin continues to determine the display of affections as traumatic and vomit-inducing.
When Y/N came home from New York last week, the first thing Dustin did was take her to the video store where he wanted to join up his three favourite people in friendship. Because that’s as far as it was supposed to go.
He wanted Y/N to be friends with Robin and Steve, but not to be super close. Afterall, they were his friends. The three of them were a trio long before Y/N even mentioned coming home. The state of elite hierarchy among their group of friends was supposed to always be there with them. Not her.
It was Steve, Robin and himself that hung out on Friday nights and watched cheesy horror films. It was the three of them that went out for milkshakes. It was the three of them that went to the arcade.
But ever since he excitedly introduced his sister to Steve it was all of a sudden Y/N this and Steve that. Steve would always ask about Y/N, and Y/N would always ask about Steve. And, to top it all off, they even used the same tactic of hiding their rampant questions with the idea of it being meaningless curiosity.
They’re both idiots. But they’re idiots that should’ve always stayed fifty feet apart.
At first, the consistent inquiries were found to be harmless by Dustin. Yes, they were a little annoying. But harmless.
Everything was perfectly fine.
Until yesterday, when Steve Harrington (Dustin’s supposedly loyal mentor, advisor and comrade) asked his sister—Y/N Henderson out to dinner right in front of Dustin’s face.
To say Dustin was furious would be an understatement.
So, Dustin Henderson felt he had to do what he does best. Investigate. (With the intent of destroying.)
Thus, the situation Robin and Dustin are currently in.
Robin ultimately tried to decide against being there. Afterall, the dingus had actually gotten a point on the “you rule” side; and even though Steve’s flirting hasn’t improved, Y/N and him do seem to really like each other. For once, Steve “the Hair” Harrington wasn’t being an idiot. And (even though she’d never admit it) she was actually excited for both of them.
But Dustin wasn’t.
Dustin wasn’t at all.
Although Robin had desperately tried to convince her child friend not to do anything to compromise Steve and Y/N’s situation and to let the two have their space, Dustin still showed up on her doorstep with binoculars and a backpack muttering something along the lines of spycraft.
After mauling through her thoughts for a few moments Robin perked up. “Dustin,” she began.
The boy let the binoculars he had been gripping so tightly fall aimlessly against his chest. And although Dustin’s head was turned to Robin’s in complete annoyance, he was still listening.
For the first time that evening Dustin was actually paying attention to her, so Robin knew she had to make this quick. Thankfully though, Robin decided to actually refer to the boy by his name and not some random thing she came up with on the spot that may or may not have been mildly insulting. Rarely did she use his actual name, so when she did he knew he had to listen because she was being serious.
“I want to know, and you have to be completely honest with me...” He doesn’t nod, but he raises his eyebrows, which is enough of a response for her. Robin readjusts herself in the seat (although there isn’t much room to do that). “Why are you so against...that?” Robin waves her hand in front of her, signaling to the two smiling people tucked away in a corner booth.
Dustin pauses, and, for a moment feels as though he’s about to break. As he takes a glimpse at the setting sun and the soft glow exuding from the diners large windows—the windows that delicately outline the countless people who are smiling and genuinely having fun—Dustin does feel the slightest inkling of guilt about his position. But more importantly, he feels out of place. He feels a bit embarrassed and he knows that—
No!
That’s not why he’s here.
He’s here because they shouldn’t be here.
With a quick moment of rememberance for his previous intentions and the point of this operation Dustin ignores Robin’s statement and picks up the binoculars, zooming in on his target.
However his mind can’t help but register what Robin had said, and oddly he feels offended. Disasters in the air and Dustin wonders as to how Robin can’t possibly comprehend that.
She’s supposed to be on his side. Not theirs.
The binoculars he had picked up only a moment ago were once again let go of so he could start making wild gestures at Robin. “How can you not be against it?!”
“It’s sweet—“
“It’s bullshit.” Dustin’s body is now slightly leaning over the centre console as he stares Robin dead in her eyes. “Can’t you see what’s happening, Robin?”
Robin (being the literal smartass she is) responds. “Yeah, it’s two people who are attracted to each other enjoying a nice dinner.”
Dustin groans and roughly drags his hand down his face. He then slaps his hand on the dashboard. “Yeah, but guess what?! One date leads to two dates. Two dates leads to three. And eventually the more dates they have the more official they will become. Then they’ll start calling each honey and sweetie, and then they’ll move in together and then they’re gonna’ get married and have a shit ton of babies and I’ll be alone.”
Robin’s eyes widen at the knowledge of the boys confession. However, she isn’t sure he fully realizes what he confessed to because Dustin continues with his animated rant.
He feels the tone of his voice go down respectively, but not so much so that it disregards his conclusion. “The bottom line, Robin, is that they’ll fall in love, and our trio is down to two. Dos, Robin. Dos people. You. And me.” He jabs at the air between them. “And all of this bullshit will happen while Steven over there swaps spit with my sister.”
Robin laughs heartily at the words that leave Dustin’s mouth.
He turns to her in shock, mouth slightly open, and eyes squinted. He feels his baseball cap ever so slightly shifting lower on his head but quite frankly he doesn’t care about that at the moment.
“You think this is funny.” It’s more of a statement than a question, but it is just as aggressive with the same amount of frustration laced within the inflection of his voice.
Robin cackles and leans backward in her seat. Her seat squeaks again, therefore making Robin laugh even harder. The whole situation—she finds—is just too trippy and she knows it probably looks absolutely ridiculous.
Dustin shakes his head and crosses his arms in exasperation. He doesn’t understand why Robin is dying of laughter when there is a very prevalent and extreme issue at hand.
He snaps his head forward, his jaw and arms tightening in unison. His gaze travels up to the rear view mirror and he pauses...
Only for a moment though because he’s take a proper look at himself and he even admits he looks kind of funny. What with the huge pout gracing his mouth, his curly hair falling in his face and his arms crossed over his body so tight he just might cut off circulation.
But he won’t let anything distract him now. Not when—
“Shit!” He hurls up out of his seat and bangs his head on the roof of the car. His hand goes to the top of his head quickly, but it immediately retreats because oh my god, that cannot he happening!
“Hey, hey, watch the car!” Robin yells jokingly. She’s stopped giggling but she can feel the tight pressure in her cheeks and stomach from laughing. Robin lolls her head back, attempting to alleviate her giggly nature and get back on track.
Except she’s so focused on calming herself down that she doesn’t even notice that Dustin has opened the car door and has started walking towards the restaurant.
But when she does see him stomping in front of her car, his fists clenched, with the image of Y/N and Steve laughing, splitting a milkshake like the two cliche idiots they are, she lunges out of her seat, slams the door shut and runs after the fourteen year old.
He certainly walks fast, but she’s faster and thank god she is, because Dustin’s fingers are already wrapped around the silver handle.
Robin yanks Dustin by the collar of his vest and pulls him to the side, away from Steve and Y/N’s line of sight.
“What the hell do you think you’re doing?” Dustin whispers angrily.
“Saving your ass!” She whispers back. She inhales deeply and smiles awkwardly at an older man that walked by them, eyeing the two strangely. She turned her attention back to Dustin, a softer look on her face. “Leave them be, Henderson.”
“No! I can’t let them—they can’t...” He runs out of breath and stops short when he sees himself in the glass window.
His reflection obstructs his perception of himself for a moment. And soon he’s actually studying himself. But...more importantly, he can see Steve and Y/N more clearly now. The two of them are in the furthest corner—the quietest and most reclusive part of the diner. He watches them sadly.
And then Steve’s arms are flailing everywhere. He’s telling Y/N a story; a funny one at that because she’s laughing hysterically. Dustin recognizes the way his sister tries to hide her loud cackles. She looks...happy. Genuinely happy. And so does Steve. And Dustin can’t help but see how good they look together.
His smile is faint until he looks at his reflection once again.
He looks like shit. There’s bags under his eyes; and as light as they were, they’re still there. He notices how tense and restrictive his body looks, provoking him to try and loosen up.
It’s hard.
But it isn’t even his fault.
It’s Steve Harrington and Y/N Henderson’s fault.
“It’s their fault!” He yells out loud suddenly. He feels defensive. He’s upset. Not even mad, just simply...upset. And he’s taking it out on Robin. Wow. What kind of friend is he? “It’s their fault because they just had to...you know...they just had to!”
“Had to what, Henderson?” Robin asks calmly.
She frowns slightly because her friend is clearly troubled by the notion of being left alone by not only his best friend and mentor, but by his sister too. She’s moved a little closer to him by now; her hand only gracing his forearm. She’s not used to showing sympathy (she’s never really been in a situation where she had to) so she hopes that this is enough.
“They had to go and—and...give in to that—that dumb sexual electricity bullshit.”
Robin sighs and tucks a few strands of hair behind her ears. The two of them are standing there completely still. The initial anger and frustration has died down and Robin can no longer feel the tension radiate off of her child friend. With a shaky huff he shies away from her hand and slumps against the side of the brick building, jaggedly sliding down to the ground.
“It’s just...everything’s...changing. Everything’s changing and this is just the universe trying to prove it to me.” Dustin wipes at the sudden wet streaks that line his cheeks. He didn’t even notice that he began crying, but it’s too late to hide it from Robin because she’s already sitting beside him, giving him her most sympathetic look manageable.
“Hey...” She nudges his foot with hers. “It sucks...I know. I felt the same way when I was your age, you know? Everything just changes around you, and it sucks ‘cause you can’t control it at all. You can’t slow it down or speed it up. It just...happens.”
She places her hand on Dustin’s and gives it a reassuring squeeze. “But it gets better in the end.” He nods slowly and softly. “Look dingus, Steve, Y/N, you and I are still gonna’ be the best of friends. We just...won’t be the three musketeers.” She looks at Dustin and the stains on his cheeks.
“Hey, you know what? We’ll be something even cooler! You can decide what our group name is, yeah?” She punches him softly in the arm.
Dustin sniffles but attempts a smile. “We’re still a team, Dustin... There just happens to be a new person. The groups larger now and that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Even if you don’t like it now, train yourself to, because Harrington, he’s—he’s a good guy you know, and he really likes your sister. A lot. And I hate to be the one to break it to you kid, and I know it’s hard for you to understand, but...whatever’s goin’ on in there...” Robin tilts her head towards the door. “That’s not our decision. That’s theirs.”
Dustin smiles weakly. The two sit in silence for a few seconds. Then Dustin wipes at his nose, and sniffs. He takes a deep breath. “At least...it’s not...the worst decision.” Robin smiles with a slight shake of her head.
“See? Just look on the bright side of things.”
“She likes him a lot, too, you know. I read it in her diary. She thinks he has a cute butt and nice hair.” Robin laughs and wraps an arm around his shoulders.
The pair stand up and Robin guides them back to her car. “What do you say we go for ice cream, yeah? Kinda’ cool down. Relax a little.”
“Yeah, that—that sounds like a good idea.”
•••••
It was a beautiful night. The breeze that carried itself through Hawkins wasn’t too warm but wasn’t too cold either. The sun was in the midst of setting; the sky in transition between indigo and pale pink.
The sounds of crickets were melodic and delicate, and for once in your life they didn’t seem annoying. The lightning bugs that usually stay pretty dormant along in the bushes on the backroads were out in full force tonight; shining in all of their tiny glory.
The music from Steve’s stereo was soft. Loud enough to hear, but quiet enough to set a mood.
You felt like a child; giddy and weightless.
For some odd, inexplicable reason, the world tonight just seemed to work. You couldn’t tell if it was just sheer dumb luck, or if it was because what was happening between you and the boy next to you was meant to happen. Regardless of whatever higher power was working tonight, something out there seemed to understand. The universe around you seemed to understand.
The evening was peaceful, the atmosphere in Steve’s car was romantic and you’re positive that with all of this serenity, the world, and all of its living things couldn’t help but be in perfect harmony.
Bryan Adams voice gently moved in the space of Steve’s car. You could hear Steve begin to sing along and you felt your heart gently convulse with the butterflies in your stomach.
You look at him through the corner of your eye and you swear he isn’t real.
Honestly, how could someone who looks like that and is like that exist?
His soft brown eyes are focused on the road and you’re reminded of the fact that those eyes were staring at you all night. Steve is just so...beautiful. It’s simply unreal.
Your smiling like an idiot as you study him. You can feel it. You feel just as light and soft as the way his hair looks as it sways in the wind.
“Someone’s smiley.” Steve commented. You’re eyes widen as you snap back to reality. Your face grows hot. Your heartrate increases. Steve just caught you staring at him like a creep and you realize you couldn’t be anymore pathetic. But the second you see the curl of his lips and his eyes begin to smile at you, every negative thought you’ve had about whether or not you looked good enough tonight dissipated.
He’s an ethereal creature. And he’s looking at you the same way. He’s looking at you like you hung the stars and moon in the sky and you can’t think of anything else other than just kissing him. The only thing your body seems to know what to do though is smile.
But thats fine because Steve opens his mouth to speak, and you can feel yourself get lost in the tender tone of his words. “It’s okay, you know. I—I don’t mind.”
You laugh softly and make a measly attempt to cover your deepening blush with the sleeve of your sweater.
You somehow force yourself to look away and try to compose what little resolve you have left. But you’re still smiling.
And Steve from across the car is still smiling as well.
As you watch the brush fly past you, an unfamiliar warmth graces your fingertips that rest on the console.
Your head turns rather quickly to see what has just touched you and you come face-to-face with Steve’s red cheeks as his hand rests millimeters away from yours. “Can I—um...am—am I...allowed to, uh, h—hold your hand? Maybe?” Steve’s looking at you softly. You can’t function, so you don’t automatically respond. He turns to look at the dark road before him. The only place his eyes can be truly safe without giving all of his secrets away. “If you don’t want to that’s fine. That’s—that’s completely...fine. I—I don’t want to pressu—”
“Steve...” you whisper. You’re shocked that you can even speak because it honestly feels like you’re permanently breathless. You look directly in his eyes and relax your hand as your fingertips glide gently over his knuckles.
You feel his hand begin to shake slightly which calms down your nerves because he’s just as scared as you are.
There’s a reassuring feeling that sets itself within the cavity in your chest as your fingers intertwine with his. It’s a slow act; one that you both don’t want to jump into directly in fear of screwing it up. But in the end it works and it just feels so right and so magical.
You swear you have never felt this way in your entire life.
Steve’s hand feels exactly how you had imagined it countless times in the past couple of days.
Soft; pure; and breathtaking.
He feels the same way.
•••••
Steve pulls up in your driveway slowly. He doesn’t have to, but the closer to your house he gets, the closer you are to leaving and he’s not sure he’s prepared for that all.
The porch light is on and so is the living room light; confirming that Dustin has not yet went to bed.
Shit.
You frown as you suddenly try to figure out how you’re going to talk to him and what you’ll say. You knew he wasn’t too happy with the prospect of the date between you and Steve—he made that evidently clear. And you’d never admit it to him but it really hurt you a lot to know that you were hurting him. You thought he’d be overjoyed with the news but instead he became distant and moody.
But Steve had assured you that he’d talk to Dustin and the three of you would work it out. And from what you’ve seen of the close friendship between Dustin and Steve you knew if anyone could get through to your little brother, it was your date.
Steve opened the door for you and closed it once you got out.
You smoothed out your sweater (although there was nothing wrong with it) and you let your arms hang awkwardly at your sides. Whereas Steve shoved his one hand into the pocket of his jacket, and with the other one he hesitantly reached towards your hand that dangled outside of the sleeve of the thin white fabric.
He was nervous... Really fucking nervous.
But the way you easily accepted the embrace of his fingers made Steve feel as though he might pass out.
His heart felt like it was going to explode, and the fact that he damned himself by looking over to you smiling in the faint light emanating from the window...
God. He was an idiot. But...the thought that you might want him just as bad as he wants you; and that maybe one day, he gets to be your idiot made him weak in the knees.
Something he never thought could happen.
You looked even softer and prettier than you did earlier in the evening; which pained Steve because first of all, how could someone become increasingly more beautiful the more he looked at them; and how could he restrain himself from just holding your face and kissing you until the both of you could no longer breath?
“Well, this is me.” You say out loud, and curse yourself afterward because god, you sound so stupid.
“This is you.” Steve replies, sounding equally as stupid.
But, regardless of whether or not the both of you can talk doesn’t matter. What does matter is that you’re smiling at him with a sense of warmth and what he hopes is adoration. The realization that yes, for once he isn’t a screw up and he is finally going to get the girl causes him to shuffle closer to you.
The tips of your shoes are touching his and the butterflies begin erupting again because the act itself is small, yet whole-heartedly adorable.
Steve then takes his other hand and links it with yours. You try to hide the way your body is reacting to Steve holding both of your hands so intimately; but it’s proving itself to become increasingly more difficult when suddenly the two of you are inches away from each other. His warm breath fans over your face and you notice that all you have to do is just move your head forward a little more before you’re actually kissing him.
“I had a really good time tonight, Stevie.” He chuckles lightly at the use of his new nickname.
Coming from anyone else it would’ve sounded stupid, but since it’s coming from you, Steve feels as though he’s floating.
It isn’t a special nickname, but it feels similar to one because now it rests within him as a placeholder. You said it, and only you can say it from this moment on.
The feeling that he gets when you say, “Stevie” ignites a livid presence of emotion deep in his psyche.
“Me too.”
He’s falling. Hard.
And it’s becoming really fucking challenging because you are looking very beautiful. And you’re smiling at him. All wistful and delicate.
The lip gloss you had on refracts the light beside you lightly, enough to make your lips (the part of you that he’d been staring at for pretty much the entire night now) shine and stand out to him.
Oh, yeah.
He’s definitely falling.
“Are you two just going to stand there, or are you gonna’ get in the house already?” Dustin is standing in the open doorway, one hand on the door handle and the other on his hip.
He seems annoyed, which brings down your spirits a little.
Steve is attentive and picks up on your sadness. He frowns slightly, but tries to disguise it because he doesn’t want to make you anymore upset. Although the boy really, really wants to kiss you goodnight, he respects you and Dustin. He decides against it. For now, at least.
You let go of Steve’s hands, still smiling softly at him as you slowly step through the threshold of your house. “Goodnight, Steve.”
“‘Night, Y/N.” He replies with a soft grin.
You walk out of his line of sight, but you don’t leave. Instead, you quickly bound over to your couch, claw your way to the window and peel the edge of the white lace curtain away from the glass that you’re choosing to peek through. You stare at the boy who looks so gorgeous in the soft early moonlight that you swoon three times over.
The door closes, and you see Dustin (surprisingly) walking Steve to his car.
You watch the situation closely. It is as unintentionally comedic to you as it is nerve-wracking.
“Did you have fun?” Dustin asks Steve. Dustin is admittedly shocked when Steve looks him directly in the eye. Before the date, when Steve picked Y/N up, the poor boy wasn’t even able to meet Dustin’s gaze.
The date however went better than expected, and now that Steve knows he wants you (and he’s positive you want him back), he’s got all the confidence in the world prompting him to be willing to do anything. Steve smiles at his younger friend gently.
“Yeah. Yeah, I really did, Henderson.” Steve nods.
Dustin leans against the hood of the familiar BMW beside his best friend. He looks up at the older boy, the boy he had been looking up to for a good year now and he can see that Steve’s smiling more than he’s smiled in awhile.
A fragile breeze rolls by the two of them. The sun has officially gone down, making the ambient light around the two friends a pale gray and blue. Dustin can hear the recognizable cicadas humming all around. The empty night makes their sound even louder and more prominent, slightly knocking off the awkward edge between him and Steve.
Steve stirs making Dustin turn to him. He runs a hand quickly through his hair (a habit Dustin has noticed occurs a lot). Somehow, Steve’s dark hair bounces back in its original place without any effort at all.
“My sisters one hell of a girl, Harrington.” Dustin speaks up. Steve slightly moves his head to the side; enough so that he can see the knowing stare that his younger friend has painted on his face.
Steve nods shyly. “She definitely is.” Just mentioning you forces a smile on Steve’s features. He truly cannot control himself when around you.
And Dustin picks up on this. Steve’s really trying. You’re really trying. And maybe (Dustin figures) he can be a bit more lenient with the two of you.
The nights really doing something to him.
There are a few quiet moments that stretch by between the two boys. It isn’t awkward anymore, but it is filled with Dustin’s excessive pondering thoughts. His heads so full of them he feels like screaming in defeat into the quiet, dark night.
“Do you like her?”
Steve looks down at him. He’s not sure if Dustin stopped eyeing him up and down at one point; but this time around his friends face is softer. There’s something there, something hopeful. Something Steve hopes is forgiveness and acceptance.
“I really do.” Steve admits shyly.
He already knew that. Of course he knew Steve liked you. He made it blatantly obvious since day one.
Dustin sits comfortably in his own silence for a moment. Steve sits uncomfortably on the edge of anticipation and worry. There’s nothing silent about Steve’s thoughts at all.
“Well then...” Dustin begins. “The next time you see each other you better kiss her, alright?”
Dustin watches Steve cough and his eyes widen comically. He knows Steve is in complete shock, but Dustin soon grins, evoking a smile from his older friend.
“Just not in front of me though, alright? Or else I’ll kick your ass, Harrington.”
For once Steve’s mind is silent...
Until he mutters one word that carries itself with the wind. “Okay.”
Dustin nods once and reaches his hand out.
Steve smiles widely. He knows exactly what that means; it’s a sign of peace and a sign of approval.
Steve wraps his hand around Dustin’s and he quickly lets go signaling for the young boy to follow through with their infamous handshake. The two boys finish with partially silent lightsaber sounds that quickly escalate into booming, hearty laughter. Laughter so loud, even the night before them wasn’t ready for it.
“I still want you to pick me up tomorrow so we can go to the arcade.” Dustin jabs a finger at Steve teasingly. He pokes Steve in the centre of his chest causing the fluffy haired boy to swat away his finger. “Ten o’clock. Sharp. Better be on time, loverboy.”
“Yeah, yeah; I will... Thank you.” Steve finishes sincerely.
Dustin nods stoically, then turns to the window and sees your silhouette. You’re smiling at the two of them through the glass; the orange light behind forging a halo around your head. He suddenly grins and laughs gently.
Out of nowhere, Dustin’s arms wrap around Steve’s middle, and the older teen can’t help but hug him back with as much force.
He’s so goddamn happy.
As you watched the headlights of the familiar BMW drift off into the road, slowly bleeding and disappearing into the blue and gray hues of the forest and streets around your house, Dustin enters the house with a smile.
You turn to him expectantly. Your eyebrows are quirked up and your soft pink lip is tucked slightly beneath your teeth.
Dustin shakes his head with a soft sigh. “You two are gonna’ be the death of me, you know that right?”
Watching your face turn up into the biggest grin makes him smile equally as wide. He walks over to you quickly as you stand up and you tuck his head beneath yours.
You embrace your little brother tightly and earnestly. You place a delicate kiss to the top of the mess of curls on his head and he hugs you with even more strength.
Even with all of the nights uncertainties, somehow the world and all its living things, for once, truly did come together in perfect harmony.
